Nestled in the vibrant heart of Santa Marta, Cacao Hostel is a delightful haven for travelers exploring Colombia's stunning Caribbean Coast. This down-to-earth hostel boasts a welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff eager to assist you during your stay. Guests can unwind in the lush garden or take a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool when the tropical heat sets in. The communal kitchen and lounge areas foster a sense of community, making it an ideal spot for solo adventurers looking to forge new friendships.
Stayed in the private room with shared bathroom one night and then the private room with ensuite another night. The rooms were nice and clean and the service was good. The included breakfast was pretty minimal, it wasn't bad just very simple. Two eggs, slice of toast, a small bowl of fruit and a slice of cake. The food for purchase was good and so were the drinks. A little pricey for the area to be honest but I guess you pay for the convenience. The happy hour drinks are great and they make an awesome Gin and Tonic! The hostel is pretty central to the main bus route and there's some local restaurants near by. Overall great experience and I enjoyed my time there!

Good budget hostel in Santa Marta. Included breakfast was a nice addition. Location is a little bit out of town in a quieter area so wouldn’t feel super comfortable walking in that area by myself at night - although it’s only about 15 minute walk. Nice friendly relaxing atmosphere there and very clean. Only thing to note is while it states air con, it is only on from 8pm - 8am - just something to note as outside of those times it’s sweltering in the rooms. Overall a good option to stay at and good value.
Hannah E — Google review
Clean hostel with all needed amenities. Comfortable bed in the private room. Shower is powerful and everything remains well stocked. The outside space with hammocks and a swimming pool is very relaxing. Staff are very friendly and professional with good English. The area is residential and felt completely safe. Walking distance to the local market and the centre of Santa Marta. Would stay here again without hesitation! Thank you ☺️
Kara H — Google review
Great hostel, a bit outside of the main city center but a really nice stay. The only downside was there was a massive group of students (20+) who crowded all public areas and made it hard for us to enjoy the pool and the kitchen. We had to wait nearly two hours just to cook because the group was using the entire kitchen.
Zach B — Google review
Stayed here for a total of 5 days and had a very pleasant time. The area around the hostel isn't that nice and seems a little sketchy, but we never encountered any problems. Should be fine to just take a taxi after it gets dark. It's also not too far from the city center (10 minutes) and especially the mercado publico (5 minutes) by foot. The staff are very attentive and nice, and the layout of the rooms is superb! You have your own power outlets and a curtain to create at least a little bit of privacy in a room packed with people. The price is ridigulously cheap for the service provided - 7 € for a bed in a dorm, AC available from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., breakfast included!
Rena — Google review
This hostel is very good in general the big problem is the rooms. -The beds are old and are made of metal with a kind of wooden board on each side which when someone gets on or off the bed or just turns while sleeping makes a terrible noise. It woke me up several times during the night. -But the kitchen is clean and well equipped. -Same for the bathrooms which are clean and where there are soap dishes and hooks to hang your things. -The place is not good if you want to go out at night because it's dangerous but if it is to take the buses to go to Minca or Palomino it's ideal.
Cl H — Google review
Clean, well maintained hostel. Different areas inside and outside to spend time. Pool is small but good. Dorm was spacious, has curtains. In general many bathrooms, all clean always. Just the matress was kinda run down. Alicia at the reception was helping a lot with all our questions and changes in planning. The location is a bit off the city centre, but close to a big interesting market area with buses to Minca and Tyrona.
Anna S — Google review
Brilliant hostel this is with really friendly staff. The area is NOT 'sketchy' as per some other reviews. Just a humble local neighbourhood brimming with life, next to the superb central market.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Santa Marta, Masaya Santa Marta is a unique hostel that beautifully marries sustainability with community spirit. This inviting space offers travelers more than just a place to sleep; it serves as a hub for conscious exploration and cultural immersion. Housed in a stunningly restored colonial building, the hostel features colorful rooms and dorms equipped with free Wi-Fi, ensuring comfort while you connect with fellow adventurers.
Great place to stay in Santa Marta, rooftop pool with bar and restaurant. Has perfect view and a lot of events.Staff is really nice and helpful! Also, really good for work, they have a coworking office. There was a big storm and half of the city was without electricity but I managed to work 11hrs because these guys have generator!
Pstu_ — Google review
05/09/25 I really liked this hostel, the staff is amazing. However I found bed bugs crawling around my bed at night. I told the front desk and they said there are no other dorm beds available, and they could not give me one of the private rooms, so I sleep on a hammock on the roof. The next day the manager told me it’s not possible for refund either. Not cool.
Antonio D — Google review
Great place to stay, very beautiful rooftop with the swimming pool area and amazing views! Good place to meet people & lots of fun social events that go on there, my favourite was a performer called Pargo Superwow, great vibes from him!
Nathalie — Google review
Masaya has been my home in Colombia 💛🇨🇴 From the very first day, I was welcomed with incredible warmth, as if we had known each other forever, the place has a special, relaxed, and joyful energy that makes you always want to come back. At reception, Christian, Vanessa, and Isaac were amazing: always attentive, with the best recommendations to enjoy Santa Marta and its surroundings. The activities organized by Valentina ✨are planned with such care that they become unique experiences, like the picadito tasting, dance classes with Darwin, or events that bring everyone together with that beautiful vibe that defines the place. In housekeeping, Blanca, Katy, and Diannis 🫶🏼keep everything spotless and always cheerful, attentive to every detail. At the bar, Juli, Jaider, Karina, and Santi create a magical atmosphere: it’s the perfect place to make friends, relax, enjoy a beautiful sunset, or end the day with a good laugh at the bar. The kitchen is also spectacular, whether for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, everything is delicious, and the service is super fast, you can really feel the care that goes into every dish. Few hostels have such a beautiful energy, and here you truly experience it. Masaya isn’t just a place to stay; it’s a home where you connect with amazing people and every day is filled with positive energy. Thank you for making my stay so special❣️

Loved this hostel! It’s social, the space is huge, the beds are confortamble and I loved the vibes! Also, the staff is great, really recommend if you come to Santa Marta!! Ps: loved the pool and the bar ❤️

Masaya Hostel in Santa Marta is an amazing spot! The facilities are seriously top-notch, very stylish and perfect for meeting people or just relaxing. But the best part has to be the staff; they are so genuinely friendly and consistently go above and beyond to help with anything you need.
Nayellys G — Google review
I visited the Masaya rooftop bar during my stay at La Brisa Loca and the experience was a disappointment. I ordered the happy hour cocktails and was asked if I wanted to give a tip, while I was ordering at the bar. That was still funny, but quickly became ridiculous when we had to wait 10+ minutes for our drinks while the bartender cleaned tables and moved chairs in the meantime. Que servicio???
Joyce K — Google review
Beautiful boutique hotel, clean and ample rooms, delicious breakfast, great location, nice small swimming pool in the first floor. The other pool in the roof was very small and was out of service.

This place is great! Laid back vibes, rooftop pool, nice rooms. The lady at reception Sherlyn, was super nice and helpful! We will definitely be back! Santa Marta is gorgeous.

I have had some funny times at this hostel. The rooftop and pool are great!! Staff are also fantastic up there, they serve good drinks. Food in the restaurant wasn’t great but who goes to a hostel to eat anyway?? Definitely do their karaoke / bar crawl lol
Laura X — Google review
The hostel is nice and the rooms are spacious. We did receive an upgrade which is appreciated. The activities and the staff is not the most entertaining I’ve seen. I would still recommend. The view is amazing from the rooftop.
Daniel S — Google review
If you visit Santa Marta you will not find a better place to stay than the Viajero Hostel. I have stayed at many hostels in Europe, North America, & South America, but this is honestly the BEST hostel I have EVER stayed at!!! The private rooms & rooftop pool are very nice and there are activities every day to connect with other travelers. Julian organizes all of the activity at night and he is truly INCREDIBLE! We had a blast on the rooftop during all of the events with Julian and he made every night so much fun that you don't have to leave the hostel to enjoy some great nightlife!!
Myles — Google review
A/C in my dorm barely worked and the pillow was paper thin. They started BLASTING music at 8am in the lobby which I don’t understand at all. The pub crawl was nice and Valentina and Jessi were really fun and kind. Nothing but positive things to say about the staff. Only way I’d stay here again was if I got a private room and I knew they had fixed the air conditioning issue. But the room was so bad it just doesn’t seem worth it
Miles P — Google review
We had a nice two day stay at the hostel, can recommend the karaoke night and Rodrigo’s barman services. Also enjoyed the little bed cabins and the rooftop pool, even though it could have been contracted a bit more efficiently with the glass facing the mountains.
Natasha M — Google review
Paula and Nerd from the restaurant were EXTREMELY RUDE to me and both are the reason why I would never return to this accommodation. They offer free tea at the accommodation, my throat was really sore so this was my go to drink. I was staying here 5 days maybe and always getting honey with my tea. On the last day Paula and Nerd gave me a major attitude stating that they did not have honey. I got extremely offended because this was something that was given with no hesitation and Paula has even brought it for me before. It’s like offering someone coffee with no sugar or no cream. They both had the audacity to call me rude as if they are not at work for a hostel that I payed for. I would never return or recommend anyone to stay here based on their service alone because there is clearly a bigger customer service issue at hand. They stated I got pushback because they were low on honey but it’s not like they cannot just order more, they acted as if this was coming from both of their direct paychecks to get more honey. If the restaurant is out of honey, simply order more, clearly they will need to order more since it’s low but it’s not okay to start rationing and being rude over free things like honey. THANK YOU NERD AND PAOLA FOR YOUR NASTY ATTITUDES, YOU BOTH ARE THE REASON FOR THIS BAD REVIEW. I TRULY HOPE YOU ARE BOTH TRAIND BETTER SO PATRONS ARE NOT LEFT FEELING THIS WAY.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Santa Marta, República Hostel Santa Marta is a fantastic choice for travelers seeking both comfort and convenience. This lively hostel boasts simple yet cozy rooms and dorms, all equipped with air conditioning to ensure a pleasant stay. Guests can take advantage of an inviting outdoor pool, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The location is unbeatable—right across from Parque Bolivar and just steps away from historical sites like the Santa Marta Cathedral and Gold Museum.
My favorite hostel ever! I’ve been 4 months around and every time i visit Santa Marta i stay here, no question! It’s beautiful, big, spacious, very comfortable (good mattresses, spacious bunks, dorms with a/c, various chilling spots including hammocks), very clean (stuff cleaning multiple times during the day and the pool every morning making it the only hostel pool i go in), and very affordable with good breakfast included! The location is great, very close to the beach, restaurants, bars, and everywhere you would want or need to go. The staff is amazing, has helped me a lot of times with different things (including receiving packages already 3 times for me while i was not here), 24h reception, very good laundry service, and baggage storage even for long time. Very good maintenance, whenever something stops functioning they fix it within a day. In general, every staff member is there to take care of any problem that arises, even before we notice it, but communication is always the key ;) Free yoga class every Monday and other activities during the week, also parties sometimes that dont disturb anyone who wants to sleep by simply closing a soundproof door. There is music playing throughout the day but chill and low. Option for homemade and very affordable lunch! Also options for dinner, cocktails, etc., but there is a communal kitchen as well. + 2 adorable cats and dog wandering around! :))
Despina K — Google review
This place was ok... Rooms They do have AC however I don't feel like they worked THAT well. In saying that rooms were cooler than outside Service The reception staff got the job done and were baseline kind. However, when we asked them for restaurant (Colombian) recommendations in the area, they were not able to help us. Additionally, they were not able to guide us with some good beach options to attend. They were kind, I just didn't feel they were overly knowledgeable about the area. We ended up getting some tips from other travellers. The person in charge of breakfast was super kind, always had a smile on his face and was a nice bright person to see in the morning. Communal space The pool area is beautiful, with a few lounge chairs around. I did notice a lot of people working from the hostel which of course is allowed. However I feel this limited the social interactions and community amongst travellers. Free breakfast Yep great! Two choices of cooked breakfast (eggs, pancakes, fruit etc) or Granola Bathrooms Yeh fine did the job, not great, not the worst Location Excellent and close to the beach/main restaurant strip

Review for República Hostel Santa Marta República Hostel in Santa Marta is a great option if you're looking for a vibrant, social atmosphere. It’s definitely a party hostel—most nights, roommates returned around 5am—but surprisingly, the rooms stay quiet enough for a decent rest, especially if you're a heavy sleeper or have sleeping tablets. The bunks are well-designed with curtains for privacy, which really helps create a more comfortable and personal space. The hostel itself is beautiful, with lots of areas to relax during the day. I especially enjoyed reading in the peaceful common spaces. It’s not a place for children, which was actually a plus for me after seeing some chaotic experiences in more family-oriented hostels. Overall, República Hostel is a fun, well-kept spot that balances party vibes at night with calm and comfort during the day. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a lively stay with a touch of privacy and peace.
Karl M — Google review
The perfect hostel! Super clean and a nice vibe! Great to have a pool to cool off. Includes breakfast which is amazing for the price! They upgraded me and my friends room on the house! The beds were very comfy and we could make the most of them with the 12pm checkout. Thank you cristina, cristian and Oreto for making our stay the best! :)))))
Amy C — Google review
This place was ROUGH to sleep in. I've never been to a hostel that had music blasting until 3AM! Where’s the consideration for guests trying to rest? It feels like the bar business takes priority over everything else. If you're looking for a party spot where sleep is optional, this is definitely the place.
Monia — Google review
República Hostel still has a prime location, but unfortunately, it feels much more run down compared to my last visit. When we checked in, the locks had recently been changed but the front desk had not yet received the new electronic card—so we weren’t able to lock our private room whenever we left. The private room itself also left a lot to be desired. It wasn’t the cleanest, as it looked like part of the roof had crumbled, leaving dirt both on the bed and the floor. On top of that, there was a window separating the neighboring room that was literally held together with tape, which did not feel very secure. Overall, while the location is excellent, the property clearly needs some upgrades and better maintenance to match its potential.
Karem R — Google review
A beautiful and colorful hostel in an amazing location; there isn’t a dedicated coworking space, but it’s not needed it’s quiet during the day and there are loads of sturdy tables and chairs; the wifi was decent although would dropout a few times during the day; it looked like that had a separate network with starlink, maybe that could be used for remote workers, I didn’t ask!
Fraser S — Google review
Great great hostel! Good rooms and very comfortable beds, the air conditioning is amazing, very helpful staff and good kitchen, the only thing that’s missing is full body mirror in the hostel :)

Hostel
La Guaca Hostel - Casa La Guaca is a relaxed and colorful hostel located in Santa Marta, offering casual dorms and private rooms. The former residence features enormous windows that provide natural illumination, creating a vibrant and Colombian-inspired atmosphere. Guests can enjoy the outdoor plunge pool and indulge in tapas, pizzas, and burgers at the small café. The communal areas are adorned with plants, hammocks, and sociable benches, perfect for mingling with fellow travelers over evening beers.
Really felt at home in Guaca hostel. Met a bunch of cool travelers and Isa from reception was very kind. I stayed in a 6 person dormitory and I really liked a full closet I could use for all my stuff. Going to Tayrona I could store my backpack and valuables in a locker without charge. I even forgot the time for my checkout, but no worries for the staff. Thank you Guaca! Would definately stay again!
Rob V — Google review
I think it’s the best hostel we stayed in South America. Very nice staff, perfect breakfast, little pool but perfect to cool down when it is so hot and airco on the dorms. They have a lot of small places where you can sit, hammocks and yeah just everything you need. We could leave our big backpacks there when we went to Minca for 2 days. It’s a little walk to the beach but we felt never unsafe. Also after sunset or something like that. Definitely would stay there again.

Stayed for almost a week whilst completing my open water diving certification and felt like a member of the family by the end. Teffy and the other ladies on reception were fantastic and (I presume the owner) was friendly, too. Thank you for helping me get a couple of football matches on the tele! Filtered water is helpful, the pool is nice and the breakfast each day was the best I’ve had in 5 months of travelling. Very generous portion size and the fruit couldn’t be more fresh! Muchas gracias y nos vemos

Great hostel with clean rooms and good value for money. The breakfast was also very delicious. Lots of access to different activities around the area too. The staff were always very kind and helpful, especially Estefania! We enjoyed our stay very much!

I had a great stay at the Guaca hostel! The rooms and areas were clean, the service was amazing (special thanks to Sofi, Tefy and Isa), and the breakfast was good as well. It definitely isn’t the most social hostel and has more of a relaxed feeling. The hostel also offers many options to book activies through them.

The Perfect Hub for a Solo Traveler! I couldn't have asked for a better place to land in Santa Marta as a solo traveler. The vibe at La Guaca is incredibly welcoming and social. Within an hour of arriving, I'd already met a great group of people by the pool. The staff are absolute legends – super friendly, always ready with a recommendation, and they make booking tours to Tayrona or Minca a breeze. The dorms are clean, the AC is a lifesaver, and the free breakfast is delicious and a great way to fuel up before a day of exploring. If you're traveling alone and looking to meet people, this is the spot!

My stay in La Guaca was amazing. I felt really welcomed by the girls from the reception (sofie, isa and tiffany). I had a great time in santa marta. Never stayed that long in a hostel before. The hostel has a big kitchen with alot Equipment, a nice pool to relax and enjoy and great breakfast. The staff is always super lovely and makes u feel at home. Its really close to the center (about 15 min walk) and there is a gym only 2 minutes walk away. The price is more than fair for the hostel. The hostel also has a laundry service and AC. Thank u for everything to everyone! If i ever come back to santa marta, i know where im going to stay!

La Brisa Loca is a vibrant hostel and bar in Santa Marta, offering bright dorms and private rooms for a comfortable stay. The hostel features a rooftop terrace with stunning views, where guests can relax during the day and enjoy lively parties at night. With two party environments and two DJs playing different music simultaneously, it's a popular spot for locals and foreigners alike.
I wanted to give a huge shout-out for the exceptional service I received. From start to finish, the experience was flawless. Not only was the representative perfectly punctual—they showed up exactly when promised—but the overall customer service attitude was awesome: friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. The quality of attention paid to my request ensured a quick and complete resolution. Five stars! Maira, Johanna, Yeritza, Jennifer, Luis y Anthony

Terrible experience! They require a minimum of 500,000 pesos to get a table. We had already spent 250,000 and asked for a room, but they told us the amount we had already spent didn’t count toward the minimum. We were a group of 10, and they refused to accommodate us because they said the VIP limit was 8 people—even though the place wasn’t even full. The service was awful, and the waiters were extremely rude. Honestly, if you’re looking for good service and a welcoming atmosphere, this is not the place. Definitely not recommended.
JuanMa V — Google review
Unfortunately we missed the famous rooftop parties. On Monday and Tuesday only the 2nd-floor bar is open — almost no people around, but the music is blasted so loud you can’t even have a conversation. If your goal is to go deaf, highly recommended. Otherwise, only bother staying here if there’s a rooftop party you actually want to attend.
Joyce K — Google review
Fantastic place for Latinos and foreigners. Good music, reasonably priced drinks, and excellent service. Depending on the season for the festivities, we were there in September, but it was fantastic. From the moment we entered to the end.
Alexander ( — Google review
Be warned, they tell you on arrival that it is a party hostel...And basically use that as an excuse to dismiss any of your issues because of the loud music. There's a difference between a party hostel, where you can party if you want, versus this which is obligatory and you will get zero sleep because of the volume. Note...on their booking websites it does not mention the night music aspect at all. So it's a complete bait and switch, taking your booking then not wanting to refund you if you can't sleep. Loud music shakes the entire building all night long until 2:30am...even on week days. And if you think you are going to recover from that partying by taking a nap during the day...hah, you wish. It's literally impossible to sleep here, day or night. They moved me to their building next door, telling me it would be more quiet. It was quiet for the first night over there, and immediately the next night the music was so loud I could not sleep. If you genuinely plan on staying awake until 4:00 a.m. every night, and like partying and clubbing every night...great. But if you expect to actually sleep in this hostel, or even want to take one day off of the partying, too bad.
Graham A — Google review
Definitely one of the worst hostels I have visited in my life. - I get that it is a party hostal, but a bit (basic) of sound isolation for the rooms, which is where people want to rest (in case it's not clear enough) would be appreciated. - After not being able to sleep until the Karaoke night was done, I accidentally left my charger connected to the bed's socket (upper bunk bed in a 4 bed room). I asked them to save it for me since I had another reservation two days later, but they replied with a negative + 'that's what happens when you sleep next to strangers' message.

Nestled in the vibrant city of Santa Marta, Dreamer Hostel offers a delightful blend of comfort and community. While it may not be right in the bustling center, its proximity to the Buenavista Shopping Center and Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino makes it an ideal choice for travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure. The hostel boasts spacious dorms and private rooms, all designed with a casual yet stylish flair.
I had an amazing stay at The Dreamer Hostel in Santa Marta! From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. The staff were super friendly and always ready to help with recommendations or anything I needed. The hostel itself is a little oasis – a beautiful pool, plenty of hammocks, and a great bar/restaurant serving delicious food at reasonable prices. The social vibe is perfect, whether you want to meet fellow travelers or just chill by the pool with a drink. They also organize fun activities, making it easy to connect with others. The dorms and private rooms are clean and comfortable, with good AC (a must in Santa Marta’s heat!). Plus, the location is convenient – close to transportation options for Tayrona National Park, Minca, and Palomino. If you’re looking for a place to relax, have fun, and meet great people, The Dreamer is definitely the best hostel in Santa Marta. Highly recommend!

The staff were lovely, and the atmosphere at the hostel is a great space to unwind. I quite enjoyed my time here, and met lots of people. This is also a great spot to access Tayrona park, as the bus stop is around 7 minutes away. Also, the beds are super comfy!!
Scott K — Google review
Do not stay here. Me and my friends booked two separate private rooms. Both of us in separate rooms found loads of dead/alive bugs all over our pillows and duvet. Both of us had to ask to move rooms and were deeply concerned about the bugs and worried about bed bugs. The next day we were not permitted any discounts or anything for the trouble caused. We had to get the receptionist to call her manager inBogota and even then they only offered us 10% off. It seemed like Dreamer did not care about us having a good sleep or a good experience at all. I would not go back or recommend you to either. Additionally, the pool looked slimy and dirty. Save yours lives and go elsewhere.
Lizzie C — Google review
We had a lovely time staying at the Dreamer for 3 nights. Our room was comfortable and the air-conditioning worked so well! The hammocks for relaxing in common areas were great too. The location is super close to bus stops to get to Tayrona and Minca, both worth a day trip for sure. If you want to go to the centre you can easily get a taxi and they have a fixed price of $15,000 to get into town. My only suggestion would be to have slightly more utensils and equipment in the kitchen area, but having a kitchen is a real plus!

I've been to over 40 countries and this is the second worst place I've stayed at. I paid for two nights and left after one night because of the rude staff waking me up at 6:30. They wouldn't give me a refund for the night I didn't stay. The bed was rock hard. I actually slept on the couch in my room. No A/C a ceiling fan with only one speed. Turbo speed. Fan was very loud. This is way overpriced for what you get. Don't stay here It's a 20 minute drive to the main part of the city.
Troy C — Google review
Stayed here after staying in the Bogota hostel with a special offer. Great hostel with great breakfast options. Advice on tours. It's far from the centre of Santa Marta but it's less than $15,000 in a taxi to the historic centre and you can book via uber
Michael L — Google review
The staff deserves a million stars. After backpacking for months the staff here is definitely the best I’ve come across! Always polite, friendly and extremely helpful! I extended my stay twice. Walking distance from supermarkets, drugstores and a huge shopping mall. Rooms were clean and AC worked great. Would 100% recommend!

I got sick during my trip, and Miss Rosemary (a lady that works here) helped me to the clinic and stayed there with me. Connie and Andres never made me feel alone. In fact, they were readily available and they always cared for my needs, genuinely. I traveled alone, but the personnel never made it feel that way. I will never forget my Santa Marta Dreamer little family.

Calle 11 Hostel Santa Marta is a charming haven nestled in the vibrant El Rodadero area, just a stone's throw from the stunning Playa Rodadero. This stylish hostel, housed in a former mansion with an intriguing history, boasts comfortable dorms and private rooms that cater to all types of travelers. Guests can unwind by the outdoor pool or enjoy refreshing drinks at the bar while soaking up the laid-back atmosphere.
Really love this place. We booked 3 nights and then extended to stay a week. The building itself is beautiful, and common areas are clean. The AC in the room works very well, and the staff are friendly. Highly recommend. It’s also close to the town, but very quiet. Overall great location and would come back for sure!

Excellent place for relax after long trip. Very friendly staff and owners. The facilities for cooking well organised, rooms and bathrooms clean and tidy. The swimming pool area very nice and good size too. The hostel in general is a fantastic place to charge your batteries, to get rest and chill. Pool table and hammocks are helping as well to enjoy the stay. Truly recommend this place.

Nice hostel in Rodadero. Just stood for one night but it was quite and comfy. Rooms are very clean and tight. The living room and kitchen are very spacious but the bar and the pool are the stars. Also the owner is very handsome and kind. The personal was very nice and familiar.

This was our last hostel of our 4 month S.A trip and the best was saved for last. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. They organised games for us and the emphasis is on the social vibes. The rooms were super clean, beds were comfortable and the wifi was pretty good. We stayed in the deluxe private room and it was HUGE! It included wardrobe space and a balcony. The showers were cold and with little pressure, but you don’t need it when it’s so hot in Santa Marta. I’d definitely recommend Calle 11.

Such a comfortable hostel. They are extremely accommodating (I lost my debit card and they are letting me ship it there and pick it up in the midst of my travels), the whole hostel has such a laid back and positive vibe, and in general it really just feels like a home amidst all of the other adventures you can do in the area. Happy this is my home base.
Kirby C — Google review
Alexandra is amazing - helpful, friendly, and speaks great English. The rest of the staff were also great including the gentleman who helped us book a tour to Tayrona which we very much enjoyed (tour bus picks you up 100 yards from the hostel door). The hostel is located in Rodadero, just south of Santa Marta, but it is very close to the bus route to get to downtown Santa Marta. It is also just a few blocks from beautiful Rodadero Beach, 1 block from a supermarket, and near a couple dozen restaurants and bars. The pool is fabulous. There is a large brick BBQ available for use. The kitchen is good with plenty of storage space (two refrigerators, more than enough). Wifi can be spotty in the 6 bed dorm but worked 90% of the time in the common areas. Beer, wine, and water are available for sale at a fair price from the front desk. There is not a bar or restaurant on site. Please note: There are two shared dormitories, one with 8 beds and one with 6. The one with 8 beds has air conditioning. The one with 6 does not so you must sleep with the windows open and you need to use mosquito repellent to keep from being bitten at night (I got several bites the first night). The 6 bed rooms have personal fans but it can still get very hot depending on your personal heat tolerance. Also please note that you must walk through the 8 bed dormitory to get to the 6 bed dormitory. Overall I enjoyed my time here and would stay at this hostel again.

Calle 11 is an amazing hostel! The hostel rooms are equipped with either A.C. or one fan per bed, and besides that are very clean. The location is also great – near the Rodadero beach and not so far from the Tayrona park and all the other great stuff you'll find in Santa Marta. Not to mention that the owners are fun people who are always looking for new ways to innovate and make this hostel a super enjoyable place! The only problem is that you will never want to leave the awesome pool area. =)

Housed in an Eighteenth century colonial building, this boutique hostel offers a range of amenities including an outdoor swimming pool, a bar, and a shared kitchen with free WiFi throughout the property. The central location provides easy access to the lively market and city center for dining and entertainment options.
Highly recommend staying at Mr Baboons. The hostel is in an ideal location and the facilities are clean. Friendly staff, especially Angie on the reception. The beds are huge and the pool is perfect for cooling off. The egg breakfast included was great and we appreciated the personal touch with our own named basket of eggs to collect.

It’s a really nice hostel. Comfy beds, AC in the rooms, curtains, decent breakfast, pool. You can’t get any better than that for the price you are paying. The staff is very friendly and attentive, especially Yessica. Highly recommend it

Friendliest and most helpful staff!! Angie remembered me by name when I came back 2 days later after staying in Tayrona. Jessica also gave me great coffee spot recommendations. The rooms and bathrooms are clean, rooms have AC. Location is central, walkable and right next to the beach. Plus free breakfast! Highly recommend!

I really enjoyed my stay at this cute little hostel. The dorms were very very comfortable with big beds and you get two pillows - and there’s AC during the night. Jessica was very attentive and helpful and Gigi was such a good salsa teacher and made everybody feel confident and guid about dancing

The beds are very comfortable and spacious. I wish they had darker blinds for the bunk beds though. The bathrooms were small but clean. The breakfast was good, but I wish they had whole-wheat bread instead of white, they cost the same.

Location perfect close to everything... Good breakfast for start day... Room clean, air condition work all time, big beds, you have light and charger in every bed...You have big terrace on the roof if you want to relax with friends... Toilets and shower are clean... People who work on reception are always kind and helpful... Very safe... Pool inside who like to refresh... All recommendations for visit and take the room if you are in Santa Marta

This hostel is super homely and all the staff are so lovely (shout out to Yessica for helping us with our transport and always having a conversation with us at the start of our day - and speaking slowly for me and my limited Spanish!) the kitchen facilities are a major bonus (two hobs!) and the pool is perfect in the heat. Also really appreciated the number of showers and toilets for women - no queuing required! The location is perfect - we returned as we came back through Santa marta.

Highly recommend this hostel! We only stayed for one night in between Tayrona and Cartagena but it was perfect. It’s in the old town of Santa Marta, super central location. We had a private room with AC (I think the dorms also have AC.) Didn’t actually take the breakfast that was included so can’t comment on that but the overall environment of the hostel is super clean and organised. Yessica at the front desk was very helpful, especially on giving us advice on how to get to Cartagena. Oh, and the hostel is resident to a quite cheeky black cat haha

Hostel
Gagaka Rua Hostel in Santa Marta offers a laid-back stay with various room options, some featuring shared bathrooms. The property boasts two outdoor pools and a kitchen for guests' convenience. Situated in the heart of Santa Marta, this air-conditioned hostel provides comfortable rooms, free WiFi, and a welcoming shared lounge. Its central location allows easy access to popular attractions such as the Santa Marta Gold Museum and Simon Bolivar Park.
Great service by the team taking care of Gagaka Ria's guests (special thanks to Caro, Dani and Sergio). They were very helpful when it comes to help making the best of my time in and around Santa Marta. The room was comfortable and clean - the rooftop pool is a big plus as well considering the temperatures!
Regina L — Google review
The main staff member at reception was nice and helpful. The place itself has so much potential but it feels abandoned. The 2 pools are nice and seem well maintained however the rooftop pool bar area is super quiet as the bar is closed and there are only 2 sunbeds there and a few chairs - no hot shower (only cold water tap) - double room has now windows, leaving the room very stuffy and humid - the towels we received were smelling really bad. We asked to change them and got another pair with the exact same smell. Could be for the lack of air, but honestly, we couldn't dry ourselves with them - the mattress must be old and / or not having been aired for a while as it was humid - the area does not feel safe to walk at night, even though it's 5 minutes or so to the centre
Pauline M — Google review
Not a good experience. Location: the area is very sketchy. Many Homeless people around and at night felt very unsafe. Rooms: dark, no windows, no hot water, towels smelled really bad and the bed was very uncomfortable and the mattress was moist, and left you wet at night. Service: they didn't give us the room up to 3pm (although it was ready earlier) because they said that otherwise we would have used extra air-conditioning. Wow. Breakfast: very basic, eggs on toast and some fruit. Would not recommend it.
Rudy K — Google review
It's a nice, quiet hostel. There are two pools which are good for cooling down of Santa Marta's heat. The room was spacious enough. I quite enjoyed my stay here and the staff was nice. BUT what really ruined the experience was that they checked my (white) towel for stains at the end. After having used it for 4 days (it wasn't changed) it was not completely shiny white anymore, which I guess is normal. And I had to pay it! Seriously? Just don't hand out towels at all then.

The location is pretty good, a little bit off the main street, so far enough to not be bothered by road noise or parties. The staff is very friendly and helpful in all matters. The facilities and rooms are clean and comfortable. The rooftop terrace and pool are a great addition.
Jonas N — Google review
My recent stay at Gagaka Rua in Santa Marta was a complete disappointment. The service was horrendous, and to make matters worse, the condition of the hotel was unacceptable and we encountered a shocking incident where they wanted unexpectedly to charge us for leaving our luggage at the hotel for 24 hours. The room floor was dirty, which was both unsightly and unhygienic. Overall, I strongly advise against staying at this hotel due to the combination of poor service, lack of professionalism, and unsanitary conditions.

The hosts were very, very kind. They helped us every time we needed. The rooms are clear enough for the staying. They offered a very nice breakfast at a very fair price. In general, I am very satisfied with all the services and kindness this hostel offered me. Recommended 100%

Rooms are quite loud. Kitchen is well equipped however they do not let you use anything except the stove. They have an air fryer and a toaster but the staff is only allowed to use it. Frustrating to be a guest and feel like you are intruding rather than feeling accommodated.

Review of Distrito Hostel, Santa Marta, Colombia Distrito Hostel in Santa Marta is a gem that offers a safe and secure place to stay, making it a top choice for travelers. Its prime location means you’re within walking distance of the beach, a variety of restaurants, markets, and shops. This convenience makes it easy to explore the vibrant local scene without needing transportation. One of the standout features is the optional breakfast available for just a few pesos. You can enjoy a delicious meal that includes eggs, waffles, and fresh fruit—perfect to start your day on a high note. The rooms at Distrito Hostel are air-conditioned and boast very comfortable beds, ensuring a restful night’s sleep. The staff here are wonderful and incredibly friendly, always ready to help with a smile. The hostel also has a social area where you can grab a beer, soda, or a few snack foods. This space fosters a great social atmosphere, and you’ll often find guests mingling and sharing stories. The presence of a couple of friendly cats adds to the homey and relaxed vibe. Overall, I highly recommend Distrito Hostel to anyone visiting Santa Marta. Whether you’re a solo traveler or with friends, this hostel provides a welcoming and enjoyable stay.

Be careful and check the bed.. we did not and had a nap and woke up to being swarmed by bed bugs unfortunately it doesn’t allow me to upload the video!! When informing reception they just said shit and gave us another room… which didn’t fill us with confidence that this wasn’t normal, the new bed looked okay, then in the morning we found a live bed bug crawling on the floor and the exoskeleton of one next to my pillow and I had been bitten all down one side, as compensation we got a free lemonade each… there was a sorry in the morning but no sorry when we initially had to move room. They advised they were getting someone in to get rid of them. It was also very loud with cars blasting music at night. Kitchen was spacious and it is actually a nice hostel but our experience was just completely ruined by this
Rachel H — Google review
Probably one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in, super spacious, very very clean, it had a kitchen, big bathroom, spacious table where you could eat dinner with everyone. Also, the rooms were great - privacy curtains, soft sheets and pillow, towel. I was really happy with my stay here. Aircon gets turned on in the room during the evenings. Great location, walking distance to Santa Marta Marina, restaurants, shops etc.. Finally, the staff were really lovely, they organised a taxi to come pick us up early in the morning so they were always happy to help! Only thing is that it gets really hot in the common areas and the bathroom. But that’s it.
Chloe H — Google review
After 200+ hostels, I can say this one offers the best money-value ratio I've ever had to experience. Super clean, good vibes, comfy beds with curtains, aircon aaaand a fully equipped kitchen. And all of this for 18k. Also, some confused cats are running around, but they give the 'special vibe' to the place
Valeri M — Google review
Excelent hostel! It is very clean and the amenities are extremely well done. The bunkbeds have curtains and are made out of concrete, the kitchen is well equipped, you get a towel free of charge, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. In my opinion the best value hostel in Santa Marta. It is pleasant that it is not directly in the center, as the center is very noisy and full. Still there is a supermarket just a block away and the center in walking distance. The only thing I would change is to put something like a chair, a shelf etc. in front of the showers so you can put your towel and clothes somewhere.
Klaus P — Google review
The whole experience is great if your looking for a hostel with relaxed and good vibes. All of the staff members are amazing. The front desk helps with every question. Best of all worlds when it comes to location. It is in the center but not loud. Even the 10p dorms feel private enough and the staff is super friendly. The hostel is just a great place to rest while visiting Santa Marta and the surroundings

I can't say enough good things about Hostel Tunido. It's 2 blocks off the "main area" for hostels and hotels, but as a result you get better service and very fair prices. The hostel interior was beautiful and very clean. The coffee was great and I had a decent pizza after arriving late and exhausted, accompanied by beer the owner brewed himself! I asked if they had a laundry service and they did it in house and had it clean, dried and folded by the next morning. The room was great, new and clean and comfortable, with AC. They also have dorms and a spot to work or hang out in hammocks. I'll definitely stay again.

Excellent host and staff - warm and knowledgeable. Ran by a young Belgian man who moved here years ago and decided to build this place up with care. I felt welcome as soon as I entered and til the moment I left. Though we have a multitude of comfortable options to stay here in Santa Marta, their hospitality (and the quiet seating areas with hammocks) quickly won me over.

Decided to stay here due to good reviews but every bit of my check in experience was TERRIBLE. Horrible service. Arrived and the room wasn’t ready. I came back after check in and it was still not ready. They couldn’t find the keys to the room. The guy sent me into a horrible street to find food which I couldn’t even find food in. Why would you send anyone visiting down that street. Took forever to open the main door as well which you need to buzz to go in. Horrible experience through and through. Didn’t even help with my bag. The cleaning lady apparently took the keys, so I don’t have a key currently. Towel is discolored and has rips. Disappointed overall

The management team is very welcoming and friendly. My partner and I stayed in a private double room which is located right next to the shared outdoor space/kitchen. The room was clean and was great for the price. There is virtually no sound buffer between this room and the shared space so we could hear the 24/7 music played in this space and anyone who came in or out. Unfortunately, there were multiple occasions where groups of people (I’m unsure whether they were guests or not) spent time talking, laughing, yelling, and playing music in this space late into the night. This would happen anywhere between 11pm-3am. This largely disrupted my stay here. Normally, in my experience, hostels implement “quiet hours” for both the staff and guests and I believe this hostel would benefit greatly from something like this.

We loved our stay at Musa Paradisiaca! The hostel is quiet but very well looked after, with friendly and attentive staff who do everything they can to make you feel welcome and taken care of. The pool area is great for relaxing in the sun. We had an amazing dinner thanks to Rafa, who cooked for us a great combination of Colombian specialities - one of the best dinners we had in Colombia!

Booked 2 nights here and checked out the next day. Our room was smelly, the bar was closed at 6pm, the wifi barley works, our curtains for the bed kept falling off, we asked for towels and were provided only 1... Other people staying in the room were walking in and out and talking loudly throughout the night and morning like there wasn't others in the room. Voiced our concerns to reception and we were brushed off. Overall so disapointing and quite boring if im honest. Also the location isnt ideal. Wouldn't reccomend staying here if you want a more social vibe.

Playa El Rodadero Santa Marta is a must-visit destination with its rich history and stunning natural landscapes. You can explore the city's historical sites on a guided driving tour, including the resort area of Rodadero, museums, and iconic landmarks like the Cathedral Basilica Menor de Santa Marta and the Tayrona Gold Museum. The tour concludes at Tangaga lookout for breathtaking views of the city.
Update - we have been back - still an incredible beach, we love the local welcome, many good people are patient with our Spanish and they practice their English with us. So relaxing, feels like our second home. We had the best day here, incredible experience and can't wait to come back!
Michele D — Google review
Long and fairly wide beach. Warm water. Lots of tents and chairs available, for a small cost. Lots of vendors selling just about everything. In the early morning hours down by walking bridge you can buy fresh fish.
Andy B — Google review
Really only went for a walk along the beach as I'm staying a couple of towns over. The beach was really busy for a Monday morning, but it wasn't out of control. A lot of people trying to sell you stuff, but they weren't being very aggressive about it. It was really clean considering the amount of people there.
Logan G — Google review
A very nice beach and in high season a lot of people go there but it is recommended to go and enjoy it.
Julian G — Google review
El Rodadero Beach – A Maltreated Paradise El Rodadero Beach has the potential to be a true paradise. In the early morning, especially around 6am, it's absolutely breathtaking — clear waters, a stunning natural landscape, and the peaceful backdrop of surrounding mountains. At that hour, it feels untouched and serene, the kind of place that makes you pause in awe. But sadly, that beauty is short-lived. As the day progresses, the beach becomes crowded — not just with locals and tourists, but also a high number of street vendors offering everything from food and souvenirs to water activities and tours. While a vibrant atmosphere can be part of the charm in some destinations, here the issue goes deeper. The real disappointment is how the environment is treated. Trash is often thrown directly into the sea and onto the sand, much of it coming from vendors, visitors and locals alike. Within just a few hours, the beach can go from pristine to polluted, losing much of the magic it offered at sunrise. It’s heartbreaking to see such a naturally beautiful place degraded by neglect and lack of care. El Rodadero could be a gem — and still is, if you catch it at the right time — but it desperately needs better environmental stewardship and respect from both locals and visitors. The sunrise could be stunning as well if you can find a decent and clean spot.
Eric O — Google review
Definitely the better beach than the one at Santa Marta. Longer stretch of sand with more beach facilities. Only issue is trying to lay on the beach in peace and quiet without having vendors poking at you.
Michael H — Google review
Unfortunately a very, very dirty beach with loads of plastic everywhere and a strong smell of rotting fish and urine. The atmosphere of people laughing and partying is very nice, but it is ruined by the sheer amount of people trying to sell you everything under the sun, more than I’ve ever seen.
Joe B — Google review
Unfortunately this time around, I have found the Rodadero very dirty: the beach and sea was, generally, with a lot of trash, in particular plastic. I do understand that with Santa Marta festival they had extra tourist, still, this is not acceptable. Please, clean the beaches and add extra trash cans so the people don't have to walk miles to dispose rubbish.

Hostel
Drop Bear Hostel is a unique gem nestled in the heart of Santa Marta, offering an unforgettable experience for backpackers. Housed in a charming historic Colombian mansion, this vibrant hostel combines rustic charm with modern amenities. Just a short taxi ride from the bustling city center, it provides a perfect escape from the urban hustle while still keeping you close to all the action.
Great hostel. Big spacious rooms and comfy beds. The pool is where everyone hangs out in throughout the day cause it is soooooo hot in Santa Marta. Stoked the kitchen made proper bacon as well. Needed those big hearty breakfasts when the bar has 8 happy hours throughout the day.
Sam T — Google review
This place has great facilities. Location wise it’s outside the center and you need a taxi. The pool, the lounge area, bar and possibilities to buy food/snacks there are great. Finally, the staff is friendly. Yet, the Music with DJ at the pool is nice, maybe there was a specific party, yet the music did not stop before at least 1.30 and therefore was very loud and our room was next to it, so noisy doesn’t even cover it. If this is in general they definitely could and should improve this part.
Ilja B — Google review
I was in Columbia for 19 days and this was definitely one of my favorite hostels. The staff were very helpful and friendly. As far as Santa Marta goes this one is definitely out of the way but you don't come to Santa Marta to hang out there. I can't say enough about how awesome the staff was, who would politely kick me out of the bar every night because I was always the last one to leave. Place is in an old drug cartel mansion with a swimming pool and is very big and spacious with a huge game/tv room and a big deck with about 15 hammocks to relax and read. Highly recommend this place!!!
Andrew H — Google review
Great hostel with amazing facilities! However the check in is incredibly long and a bit over the top, also I wish the hostel staff knew more about the cartel history of this place. Careful, if you book a dorm with AC you are likely to end up in a different climat zone (like 17/18 degrees)!
Barbara — Google review
We were really disappointed of this hostel. Beds are uncomfortable, music is being played all day and night full volume (earliest it stopped once was at 4:30am so no chance of getting a good night sleep). Also there is a construction site right next door and they start at 7am. Kitchen is ridiculously equipped (tiniest fridge, pots and frying pans without handles and dirty, barely any cutlery or plates and the microwave and toaster are just for kitchen staff use) and the weirdest and rudest thing we experienced was when we caught the kitchen staff taking food for their use out the free food basket for backpackers. Only good thing about this hostel was the pool.
T. P — Google review
We had a great stay at Drop Bear during a two-day, one night visit to Santa Marta. It's not right downtown but it's easy to get to and is in a nice neighborhood. Wifi was good. Bed was comfortable. The community and other people staying here really made it a great time. It's easy to plan trips throughout the Sierra Nevada region from here.
Robbie F — Google review
Amazing facilities, although they are showing their age. Party hostel. No quiet hours or enforcement of. The people in my room were in and out of the bathroom 50 times throughout the evening doing coke. If you want rest, this is not the place.

Imagine Hostel in Santa Marta is a delightful haven just a short stroll from the stunning Bahia de Santa Marta Beach. This modern hostel, housed in beautifully restored art deco architecture, offers an inviting atmosphere perfect for both relaxation and socializing. With its vibrant Caribbean-inspired design, Imagine Hostel captures the essence of this lively city while being conveniently located near key attractions like the Santa Marta Gold Museum and Simon Bolivar Park. Guests can enjoy air-conditioned rooms equipped with essential amenities such as bed linen and towels.
Solid option. Personally I like when hostels have the big communal bathroom (3 showers, 3 toilets) like this one does. They turn on air conditioning in the dorm rooms from 7am-7pm which I think is pretty typical for Santa Marta hostels. No included breakfast which was fine (we recommend going to Fritos Bryan around the block). They had a nice open area to sit in, but it was pretty hot and definitely not very social. They provided a towel for each guest which was nice! Overall, nice clean quiet place to stay.

Great hostel, close to center but in a calmer spot. I went there without reservation and I found the staff very welcoming and kind, fair price as well and the room was comfortable. Also they were super kind in keeping my backpack while I was at Tayrona. Totally recommend!

I echo what all the other excellent reviews say. The staff are extremely hard working, attentive and kind and helped my immensely when i injured my foot and broke my cellphone. The room and bed are are cozy, clean and has great AC. Nice breakfast and water refilling service too. Definitely recommend!

The hostel made my stay in Santa Marta. Well-located, comfortable, super clean, with nice facilities, solid wi-fi, and a small pool that was heaven after long days packed with activities. The absolute highlight of the place, however, were the people. Nohora and her lovely team are not only helpful, informative and welcoming but just amazing individuals you want to meet. Easily recommended.

A hidden gem! Really reasonably priced room in a lovely, chilled hostel. The staff - especially Nora - were amazing! My partner was sick and she helped us so much and was very kind. Our room was amazing - huge, A/C and private bathroom. Perfect to unwind after staying in dorms. Free breakfast too with a fresh fruit bowl and help yourself filter coffee! The main square was only a 5 minute walk away also. Would not hesitate to recommend this place ❤️

a lovely hostel with helpful staff, fun rooms (we enjoyed our two level double room!) and lovely relaxed vibe - also, the staff went above and beyond to help us, looking after bags on multiple occasions and giving useful advice on travel. Located short walk to the very enjoyable town centre and conveniently very close to the minibus stop for transport to Tayrona and Minca. Top class 👍

I stayed there and never regretted my choice. If you are into exploring Tayrona Park or having a diving snorkeling experience - the location is the best, it's so close to the Marina de Santa Marta Ana well to the bus stops. Excellent service, all staff members were very attentive to my needs and questions. Our room was super cozy and clean, no noise. I will definitely stay here again 👍

We only stayed briefly before and after Tayrona national park but they were super accommodating and kind! The room was nice and the AC is always very welcome. They also have a super cute cat and outdoor area at the back for breakfast. Only a short walk from the centre of town, supermarkets and the bus to Tayrona. Would recommend!

Ancient Ruins
Ciudad Perdida Teyuna, also known as the Lost City Trek, is a challenging yet rewarding adventure in Santa Marta. This ancient Inca ruin, older than Machu Picchu and nestled high in the Sierra Nevada mountains, requires at least four days of hiking through the jungle. The trek offers well-organized infrastructure with comfortable camps and quality food supplies.
The four day Ciudad Perdida trek with Teyuna ranks among my best travel experiences ever. The trek is at times difficult, but doable for any reasonable fit person. You sleep in basic but very comfortable camps, all set in stunning scenery and within walking distance of a river or natural pool to get rid of the day's sweat & mud. Most of all a big shout-out to to the very attentive Teyuna Team: guide Beto, whose knowledge of the local culture and customs really made all the difference, the translator Sara and the cook Sandra who kept us very well fed throughout the trek. In short: highly recommended!
Kurt V — Google review
An unforgettable adventure with Teyuna Tours! Pipe and Oscar are truly passionate about what they do, and it shows in every step of the journey. Their storytelling and enthusiasm completely immerse you in the experience, making you eager to take on each new day. Their positive energy is contagious, turning even the toughest moments into an absolute joy. It was a pleasure to push our limits with them by our side. If you're lucky, Pipe and Oscar will be your tour guide and translator! A special thanks to Devis, whose delicious meals gave us the energy we needed to take on each day's hike. His cooking made sure we were always ready for the next challenge. Highly recommended!

Together with my girlfriend I went on the four days hike with Teyuna. The experience was incredible, we have been able to enjoy the nature of the jungle, indigenous culture and amazing food. Usually there is only a guide but now we also had a translator. Thank you Pipe and Sebastian. The hiking is tough but the guides let you do it at your own pace. The views were amazing.
Gaabje — Google review
Before we get in touch with Teyuna we did little bit of research about Lost City and companies which provide service to this place. The most important for us was to have a tour-guide who is friendly and passionate. After couple minutes of our hike we found out that our guides Nico and Yon are really well knowledgeable not just about topics of history Lost City but also about other parts of Colombia and Colombian history. Because of them this hike was absolutely fantastic, cannot imagine someone could provide more knowledge. Organization of Teyuna company is also really good. They provide you with all necessary information from beginning and we can say they thought of every single detail of each day. You really don’t need much for those days apart from strong repellent, clothes to wear, water bottle, bit of money and good mood. ☺️

One of the most exciting and impressive experience of my life.. my girlfriend and myself enjoyed the journey so much even if we were not used to this kind of 4-days trek. The guides Jaison, Hugo and Brayan were wonderful cultivated and open-minded persons that I can only recommend ! The cook did an amazing job and the organization was perfect.. thank so much for this moment of life !

The Lost City trek with Teyuna was amazing. Our trusty guides David and Jose made sure that we were very well looked after from pick up to drop off. David in particular was amazing in sharing his knowledge about the Lost City and Indigenous tribes during the 4 day hike. A huge shout out goes out to Sandra our cook who made all of the delicious meals along the trek. Overall, the organisation from Teyuna was excellent. The hike itself is demanding due to heat and humidity but the experience of hiking in the jungle and cultural learning is incredible. Highly recommended!

Excellent place to stay. Best views of Santa Marta. Very kind hosts. There are two big functional kitchens for you to cook if you like. Very helpful staff. Booked this place on air bnb… on the day I arrived there was a parade… the room gave the perfect view of event. I don’t mind noise… but I found this neighborhood or area of the city to be needlessly loud… with the party buses that pass by and the shops that blast their music for no reason. If it was a club or bar I wouldn’t mind. The noise lasted till like 1am. The rooms are very basic…

Hotel Portobahía is a straightforward accommodation option that offers breakfast and Wi-Fi, along with a restaurant, bar, and terrace. Its country house style makes it the ideal choice for those arriving in or departing from Santa Marta by bus as it's conveniently close to the city's bus terminal. The rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs and air conditioning, providing a comfortable space to unwind after a day of exploring.
I've tried the mojarra here and easily I can say was one of the best dishes I've tasted on this trip. I highly recommend to visit this place, also, the beer is really cold which make it perfect for lunch 🫶🏻 if you come from other country, don't miss the opportunity to visit the restaurant.

This is a great hotel. The rooms are very clean (the cleaning ladies do an amazing work), the staff is friendly and attentive, and the AC works wonders. Two things I do have to say, however, is that double beds are not very comfortable. The matresses are quite hard and not in a good way. You might get used to it but they're still not very nice. Single beds are okay, though. Another things I didn't like is the fact that rooms do not have a small fridge to keep water cold. Bottled water goes up to room temperature in a matter of minutes, and even though it's still refreshing, nothing beats cold water if you wake up in the middle of the night. All in all this is a great hotel and I still recommend it!

The hotel is nothing like the pictures. The location is good but that’s about the only thing. We booked one double room, got a room with a rather small “Double” bed and two bunkbeds! The WiFi connection is really bad. The furniture is dirty. The room has two towels and no other towels in the bathroom (like a hand towel). There is a small fridge in the room which needs to be plugged in but it’s not entirely clean. One of the lights in our room doesn’t work. Also the phone doesn’t work. The walls are super thin! My husband was not feeling well when we arrived and I couldn’t phone the reception to get a glass so he could take a pill! Ofc there is no mini bar for the water so we were looking for tap water from the bathroom anyway. I asked maintenance lady for a glass and she told me maybe in the restaurant they could help me. We will definitely not gonna be coming back! Not recommended!

Mrs manager refused to allow our babysitter to stay in the room during the day and watch our newborn daughter without additional charges, which varied by the hour, while my wife and I had booked a hiking tour of Tayrona. The manager also felt the need to argue this fact with my wife after 9pm once we had settled in for the night. It appears to me that the fact I used an online booking service which offered a good rate is the reason we had been treated so poorly as Mrs manager kept repeating the fact that we got a low rate online. In our opinion a hotel catering to tourists should be more accommodating of their guests needs, especially families with small children. Santa Marta is a very nice destination it's too bad this incident left us with such a negative impression.

Fatima Hostel Santa Marta is a casual accommodation offering modest dorms and private rooms, along with a bar and two hot tubs. Situated in the historical center of Santa Marta, it provides easy access to Fatima beach and serves as a gateway for various excursions such as trips to Tayrona National Natural Park and treks to the Lost City archaeological site. The hostel features three private rooms and ten mixed dorms with 4, 6, or 8 beds.
I spent 3 nights in a private room. Very good service for money value. It has aircon, a fan and water pressure is great! You can tell the hostel is a bit older but the two ladies Shirly and Kelly are doing a great job at maintaining the cleanliness and even offered a little cleanup of my room after two nights. The location is very convenient and the hostel has a nice terrace :) would recommend for a short stay

Great hostel with a perfect location. Rooms are also nice and cheap. Juanito made the best cocktails at the rooftop bar and was always good company. He recommended me a lot to do and also took us to a nice local club. I will definitely stay here again if i come back Santa Marta.

Staff are so lovely. Juanito in the bar was so helpful and kind. I got into an accident outside (nothing to do with the hostel) and he took extra care to look after me- he really went out of his way to help! Location is great, very central. Breakfast is delicious and cheap. Good value for money.

Nice hotel with very helpfull recetion team, but poor room. The room was small, only window to narrow coridor, only 1 socket and the A/C in room did not work. Bag storage for free. Laundry - 10 000 COP per kg, but no problem to wash just 1kg.
Aivars A — Google review
Fatima Hostel violated clearly stated policy on Hostel World by charging me in FULL 2 weeks before my stay. I was charged by a 3rd party, in an entirely different city. It appeared to be credit card fraud. I had no way of knowing, it caused a great deal of stress and loss of time. Fatima Hostel and Hostel World were like -too bad, so sad but hey your reservation is confirmed and non-refundable. Fatima Hostel itself is looking run down and dated. The owners appear to be absent, a corporation in a distant city. The pool is a glorified pigeon bath complete with pigeon poo and feathers. The human sewers overflows outside and the smell is very disgusting. To be fair - during the holidays & Peak seasons, the human sewers overflow all across central Santa Marta and drain into the Marina next to the beach. Furthermore coke tourism is alive and well in Santa Marta you will proposition everyday. The homeless situation here is truly deprived and depressing. the saying goes -”Buyer beware, you get what you pay for“

Nestled in a vibrant building, Casa Avelina Hostal offers a relaxed atmosphere perfect for travelers seeking comfort and community. This unique hostel features two levels of creatively repurposed shipping containers, complete with large windows and balconies that invite natural light. Guests can enjoy the charming village square-style courtyard, which houses a delightful Colombian restaurant and cocktail bar, ideal for socializing or unwinding after a day of exploration.
A beautiful place to stay. I visited for a birthday party so can't comment on the rooms, although the hosts of the event commented on how much they were enjoying their stay.

Pretty good hostel. Pool was great for cooling off and rooms were clean and safe. Location is a bit out of the way but not too far. Prices for drinks and food are a bit high so if you are on a budget eat elsewhere.
Brehn P — Google review
The pool was great, room was spacious and staff was nice! We got offered to enjoy the happy hour, we got 2 for 1 cocktail each. When it was time to check-out we have been told we had our drinks out of the happy hour (from 5 to 7, we had it around 5:30). The waiter said it was before that, and they went to check the cameras to make sure we were telling the truth. Not the best experience. Also, it’s not the best location, there’s not much around. At night, music was very very loud and it was not easy to fall asleep.
Juliette D — Google review
Pros - very friendly and kind staff who were happy to help when possible. Cons - you have to pay for water which with nowhere to fill which soon adds up. Also the electricity in the rooms is turned off in the day so no working air con or using the plugs which can also be a bit annoying.

Calum T — Google review
A very good looking hostel a little outside the city centre, Casa Avelina provides you a mix of a party hostel and a family resort. This place is for you if you like to hang out at the pool side listening to loud music from early in the morning until late evening. Beds are comfortable, lockers quite spacious, but the ceiling fan is super loud. All in all, loud is the word that firs comes to mind, since the loud music really is unescapable in the premises. The reception is was super helpful, and when I checked out two nights early because I couldn't do any work there (really, even talking in the table was hard because of the blasting music), I got my nights refunded without even asking. The breakfast is super small, but the restaurant does provide other delicious meals. Restaurant staff weren't really enjoying their time and seemed quite reluctant to serve, like some othere reviews had pointed out, but they were friendly enough for me. All in all, if you enjoy super loud music all day while dipping in the pool, the place is a perfect spot to stay a couple of days.

Nice surprise downtown. It's a cozy, decent budget hostel. The pool social area is pretty with a great vibe. The staff is extremely friendly, flexible and available. There are some details on the organization and structure that they can improve, but overall the stay was chilled and fun.

If there were 0 stars I’d gave that to this place, I usually don’t make reviews about anything but this place is worth the hassle. We booked a private room for 240k pesos/night (that’s quite expensive for a hostel), there was no water, just one towel for 2 people (the offered another one but was humid), no soap, the tv didn’t worked (not that I wanted it but …) we had to use the shared shower, but the toiletries were very nasty, when I wanted to get answers the people asked me to call the owner, like if they weren’t responsible, I called the owner and he didn’t pickup, I and Up calling tue police and making a complaint. Cleaning is very bad as well. Definitely don’t go here.
Juan B — Google review
Loud music until late at night for a empty bar, I asked if the music could be a bit softer but instead they put it louder and got engry. The kitchen is under equipment and almost impossible to cook something for your self.
Bram V — Google review
I liked the location. It's near the beaches. The AC is only on from 10pm. One of the two toilets did not have a toilet seat, the other one looked old and dirty. There were constructions inside the hostel during the stay. The pool water did not look clean.
Mapper — Google review
- We got a room that was half the size of what we originally booked. They didn't make any comment about that with the check in and we found out after entering the room after two hours of waiting. - The bathroom was full of cockroaches... We complained about that and the response was: "it's normal here, they are everywhere in Santa Marta" (we spend in total about 7 nights here in other places in Santa Marta and never saw one) because of this we had to use the public showers and toilets. - It's not possible to close the window so the room was full of mosquitoes. - we were next to the poolbar and had to ask around 23:30 to put the volume down (we had to work at 6:00) - we asked for something to kill the mosquitos and the guy said he would have a look to find something. But unfortunately we never saw or hear from him again. In the morning the manager/owner supposed to be in the reception, but he never showed up. The receptionist, which is super uninterested, was just texting with the owner and didn't speak to us at all. To hear after 15 minutes of waiting: no, were not gonna do anything for you. But that was already expected if you see the standards of service and hygiene in this place. This was definitely the worst place of our two month stay in Colombia. They charge premium but don't have much to offer..

There are some great things about this hostel— clean, stairs to the top bunk, a yummy breakfast with homemade bread, and a good location. The one big complaint I have is the blasting of terrible music until midnight. The dorms surround the common area, and the bar plays music with a strong base, make my to hard to sleep. There were a total of 3 people quietly chatting at the bar on a Sunday night, and for some reason the music still needed to be loud. I asked the reception if they sold ear plugs and they said no. He then offered to ask the barman to turn the music down, and they turned it down slightly. Do not expect to sleep well until after midnight.
Leah R — Google review
Lively, clean hostel in a great location. Stayed here two nights and found the rooms clean and huge. There is also a pool and bar in the communal area. It is quite noisey and the bar plays music until midnight so it's not the place to stay if you want peace and quiet.
Hamish H — Google review
Staffs were decently friendly but pushed quite hard on selling us the package for Tayrona Park. The room (2 storied private) we stayed in had a lingering smoke smell to it, which was not pleasant for the first night. The shower was somewhat broken. Breakfast was good (scrambled eggs with 2 roasts, fruits, and juice). The room was somewhat noisy with a high-pitch machine voice being audible at random times during the night.

Casa La Bella Samaria Hostel Boutique is a budget-friendly accommodation located in Santa Marta, just 800 meters from the historical center. The staff is known for being extremely helpful and willing to assist guests with organizing transportation. However, it's advised to book moto taxis well in advance due to their tendency to be late. Guests have also appreciated the option of leaving belongings at the hostel while exploring nearby areas like Minca.
Everything was really nice. We got cheaper room it was small but nice with window. From what I saw the bigger rooms are very, very pretty. Some problems with the sheets but we were very nicely explained about the water situation in Santa Marta so I won't complain, thanks!

The service is very friendly. However, the room I slept in (private with balcony) was extremely bright, noisy and hot even with 2 fans running all night and windows open. I would recommend other hotels / hostels a few streets closer to the old town of Santa Marta, which seems more safe at night.

Rooftop has potential but is completely uncovered so has minimal use during the day due to sun. I did not enjoy interacting with staff. they lock the freezer in the kitchen so guests can't use. Pool/tub looks very unclean. Location is in bad area, cops told me it was dangerous. Lots of better options available for similar price
A U — Google review
The Hostel is beautiful inside and the staff friendly. I love all the plants inside the hostel and on the rooftop. I booked a private room, with shared bathroom. The room only had a window to the inside of the hostel. Because of that it was crazy hot in the night. I couldn't sleep. The ventilator is helping a little bit, but is not exactly quite model. In my opinion this room shouldn't be used as a guest room. Also I had to pay a 'city tax' I never payed something like this in the other 3 places I stayed in Santa Marta, neither did it show me in Booking. The rooftop is beautiful, but there is no shadow at all. The water in the pool was green, which is unfortunate, because this was the main reason I chosed this hostel over a different one. I didn't go to the pool. I had to wait 15 minutes for the check in, even though there were no other guests. The location is not good, this area of Santa Marta is dangerous in the night. When alone you should take a taxi to go there. When I arrived in the evening there was nobody at the reception and I had to wait 5 minutes outside the hostel in this dangerous area. This is a no go.

Maybe it used to be a nice place 5 years ago, but now not anymore. Every furniture was worn out and nobody restores them anymore. Shared toilet and bathroom is super dirty and most of the time has no toilet paper. It is very dirty in general. Not recommend at all.

It's a beautiful house with a nice view over the city, has super friendly and helpful staff and the value is great. 22k for the dorm with rooftop breakfast. However, the fans in the dorm were rattling and there is no locker or blanket. I still had a good sleep, so I'm okay with it.
Daniel B — Google review
Great affordable hostel the staff are very helpful & went out of their way to organise buses & moto taxi for me. On that note be warned the moto taxis are always late so if its your arrival time somewhere isn't flexible. Book 45 min earlier than you need, to avoid stress. Also they don't bring a helmet & its not for the faint hearted but if you like moter bikes its fun. I visited Minca for a night & left my stuff at the hostel while i was away & all was fine. There are lockers in one dorm but all rooms can use them you need your own lock. Roof terrace is fab i practiced my yoga up there but you need to be early as breakfast starts 7.30. Im a veggy & avoid bread & coffee so it wasn't a high light for me but they are very accomdating. Its friendly but somehow not super social i did make one friend & we went out. Downside rooms are hot every bed has a fan & in one room curtains but you don't get a top sheet so i felt cold with fan & hot without. But im a light sleeper & was accidently there during carnival so a combination of above meant i didn't sleep well. Really lovely building & close to coast plaza center im a solo female traveller & was great walking on my own in dark but perfectly fine in the day & early evening.
Bally — Google review
The hostel is good in general, but everything is old & needs to be renewed at some point. They offer a decent breakfast and have a nice terrace. I have been to other hostels in Santa Marta & they offer much more for the same price. Wifi works occasionally good, but bad in general. There is almost no space in the room (3 level beds) for your luggage. My backpack was thrown around twice… There is one free bed, where you are supposed to put your backpack. Obviously everyone needs to get to his/her back at some point and it can be really annoying when you have to put away other bags before. At one evening there seemed to be some tension between the employees/volunteers. Hence there was no-one at the bar in the beginning & later one two of them were arguing a lot. I didn’t feel really comfortable there at this moment.

(Translated by Google) The person who greets guests is very friendly. However, the kitchen staff are very rude when people ask for something (another drink, sugar, etc.). However, she rudely replied, "Pass them over there," without even asking us for the favor. (Original) La persona que recibe a los huéspedes es muy amable. When traveling from Santa Marta to other Colombian destinations, the Terminal de Transportes de Santa Marta is the central hub for local and onward bus connections. Situated in the southeastern part of the city, it has undergone significant improvements in recent years, including the introduction of a functional website for pre-booking tickets.
The central bus terminal for Santa Marta. Much improved over the experience from 4 or 5 years ago. There is now (finally), a working website for pre booking tickets, and the overall on site experience is far better than it used to be.
Howard S — Google review
It is a fair terminal but the restaurants are overpriced. Menu del dia for like 25.000 pesos and the bathroom cost 2.000 pesos. Buses are frequently late as well. If you’re reading this, it means you’re probably going to use this terminal anyway, so I wouldn’t sweat it too much. The closest good fair restaurant is a roasted chicken one, 18 minutes walking or 4 minutes by taxi.
Rafael R — Google review
Got stuck at this bus stop twice, buses often won't show up, no refunds given and you will be waiting hours. Honestly do yourself a favor and fly, it'll end up being the same price I promise.
Ellie F — Google review
Warning: do NOT take torcoroma/flechabus. They lied us in the face several times and in the end did not even take us where they promised to, just a city an hour away! And took twice the normal price and I speak very good spanish so it was no misunderstanding!

I seldom give negative reports to a Terminal in Colombia. I hope they can be open 24hours since buses arrive anytime of the day.
Tito W — Google review
1. Review of the Bus Terminal: don't get tricked by all the sellers approaching you at the entrance. They will "kindly" walk you to the most expensive buses. Instead, go by yourself to different official desks and ask for routes and prices. Or read in advance and go directly to your preferred company. 2. Review of Brasilia Express: Decent buses. The positive part stops here. They sell you "direct" buses from Santa Marta to Cartagena, for 60.000 pesos. Explicitly asked twice to the official desk if it was really direct, before buying. It stopped 4 times just in Barranquilla, among which an unannounced 1h stop at the bus terminal. Other random but luckily short stops were made on the way. Toilet didn't work.
Lorenzo G — Google review
pay maximum attention to the company "super star Gold". as you get out of the taxi or arrive at the terminal very pushy people will try to convince you to get on their bus. DON'T DO IT. The person at the taxi stop will show you a different bus but you will end up on a medium to small bus that will break down all the time, pick up vendors along the way and make a long stop in Barranquilla even though they will sell you the ticket promising it won't be Like this. the journey should last 4 hours, with them it will last at least 6 hours. Furthermore, the bus is old, dirty and full of insects. a real nightmare. stay away!
Matteo P — Google review
they should put the police at the entrance to prevent the employees of the company called "super star gold" from continuing to attack tourists arriving at the terminal. You don't have time to get out of the taxi before they've already taken your luggage to force you onto their old and smelly bus. They should be stopped and punished and other bus companies should complain to the police authorities.

Basic but good to pass a night. The rooms are quiet and more or less dark. The breakfast is average for that its included. What I did not like was that they called the most unprofessional and creepy taxi that I've ever ridden. And they knew the driver so it was no coincidence.

Very tranquil place with welcoming and helpful staff. The hotel is quite basic, but is well located and offers a reasonably priced and convenient laundry service. Breakfasts are not included but can be bought from the hotel café which cost COP 6.000-9.000 and are delicious (I would recommend the Aluna completo given the portion sizes are not huge). The only problem we had was the kitchen was not especially well equipped (it didn't really have any cooking knives) and could have done with a bit more of a clean.
Alex B — Google review
The place itself had very nice architecture, very simple yet really nice, the room was big and had high ceiling, so even-though we were very coldly attended by the receptionist we decided to stay. We found out after... The room was not cleaned in long time, it had dust everywhere. The bathroom was also not clean. The was a loud generator that didn't let us sleep well. The service from the staff only got worst, even for Colombian standards... We came up at night, the receptionist didn't even raise his eyes to look at me...i needed the key from the room. I was really surprised that the guy doesn't even look at me, went on the side of the counter... The guy was chatting with somebody on Facebook.

Disappointing Stay: Nice Facilities but Poor Management and Comfort Positive: The facilities are nice and in good condition, close to good restaurants, and the staff on the premises are very friendly as far as the hotel management allows them. Negative: They do not have hot water, it is located in a very attentive area at night, making it difficult to get a good rest. Despite having breakfast included, they did not want to offer it because supposedly it was no longer available. Lastly, the hotel management is lacking in empathy and flexibility with the guests, causing unnecessary discomfort and inconveniences for the guests.

This accommodation did not match the expectations set by the description and photographs on Booking.com. The furniture and equipment were in very poor condition – some items were literally falling apart in our hands. We were informed that there was no hot water available in the property. Spending 8 nights without hot water was highly inconvenient, even though the weather was warm. According to the booking details, the reserved room was supposed to be 45 m². However, the assigned room (No. 101) appeared to be significantly smaller. The minibar in our room also did not seem to function properly, as it did not cool items as expected. Overall, the accommodation provided was not consistent with the description, photographs, or our expectations when making the reservation. However, we would like to highlight the professional approach of the hotel manager. After we expressed our dissatisfaction to the staff in the restaurant/bar, she personally came to meet us and, within an hour, arranged for us to be transferred to another Alma Hotels property. There, we were provided with accommodation that much better met our expectations. This hotel gave the impression of having seen better days, and we would strongly encourage the owner to invest in renovations. While the photos online looked appealing, they clearly reflect a much earlier state of the property.

Love everything about this hotel except the breakfast. They only have continental and if you want anything else it has additional costs but minimal prices and most come with small kitchenette to prepare anything you like. The people who work here are amazing though and incredibly helpful. Feel completely safe and the location is awesome! Quite at night but close to the restaurant row. Love the bathrooms and the hot shower. Value 4/5 Atmosphere 5/5 Service 5/5 Quality 5/5 19/20

Great hotel for a good price. Clean, spacious rooms, with mini kitchen. Breakfast was good - not too small, not too big, with options to order additional from the menu for a reasonable price. Served on the terrace, by the pool. Pool is small, but clean and great addition to the offer. Recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Bugambilia! Alberto was very responsive to all of my inquiries. Google translate and WhatsApp is a life saver for the non- Spanish speaking. I felt I needed to leave this review after reading some of the misleading reviews about false expectations. First of all, it is not a full-service hotel. They are not going to tidy up your mess daily. They are not carrying your packed too much luggage up the stairs. It is however a very nice studio apartment style room with a small kitchenette. It does have good security with a keypad to enter the property, then multiple key locks on your door to enter your room. When we arrived at check in time, the room was warm and humid. It did take a few hours for the air conditioner to balance, but the next 5 days were perfect. The location is perfect for my liking as it is just far enough away from the loud night life music to get some rest, but close enough to walk to when you want to party! The exito market is one block away, (it has everything you may need, groceries, clothing, new motorbike, ect) There are so many restaurants, and cafes between Bugambilia and the beach to satisfy any craving. Overall for the price and its location, Casa Bugambilia is a very good value! I will definitely visit again when in Santa Marta! Thank You Alberto and staff for a wonderful stay!

Exceptional Great location - close enough to town to walk everywhere but not in the middle of the all night party so you could get some sleep! The room was massive and had a seating area and a kitchen. The showers were hot which was welcome in a world of cold showers! And the staff were super helpful and friendly.
James F — Google review
It seemed very fancy and nice hotel. But the true is totally opposite. I really am disappointed with you, casa bugambilia First of all, kitchen stuff is so dirty and old that I can not cook. It looked like cleaned for a year. The smell was disgusting. Second, laundry service was horrible. It does not clean at all. It does not dried at all. It was still wet and stinky. Even it doesn’t arrive on time so we need to wait for 1 hour. The last one is employee’s attitude. Because laundry was late, we were in hurry. We did not have enough time to check our laundry. It was in Black plastic bag, even unfolded. So after I found the status of them, I made a phone call to complain it. According to the employee, he won’t do anything because we already checked out. I know It is not his fault. But when I asked laundry service, he was sure to say that it would arrive in my room, folded, before we checked out. But He didn’t even show any sorry for it. If you choose to stay here, just make sure not to expect anything when you have some problem with the hotel. Moreover, if you have something to complain, then make sure to do it before you check out. What a convenience work. After guests check out, they are not guests anymore.

Hostal Kaia is a charming rustic hostel that provides simple quarters for backpackers. It boasts a communal kitchen and an outdoor pool. While not centrally located, it is conveniently situated near the main street where buses to Minca, Tayrona, and Taganga can be easily caught. This hostel offers a true oasis within the city with its refreshing swimming pool and two kitchens available for guests to use. It is an ideal place to take a break from indulging in empanadas.
Very nice stay. The owner is excellent and very friendly and accommodating. They bought it from others who ran it down almost into the ground and are improving it every day, decorating, building, repairing, adding on, improving in ways that aren't so common in the coast, so in just a few weeks it will be even better. You can tell they put their heart and soul into this place. Highly recommended.

I loved this hostel. It’s in barrio jardein which is a relatively safe and quiet area. It’s a very quick taxi to el centro. It’s good for somebody who wants to be out of the caos of el cento but still close enough to all the action. It’s right on the main avenue to catch buses anywhere. The owners Jason and Gloria are very helpful and kind. They are fluent in English and Spanish so they can help everyone. The rooms were clean and comfortable. They have two community kitchens which we used. They had all the basic equipment for cooking and a good refrigerator. The AC worked great and the pool was clean and clear. Fantastic hostel!

Quite a bad experience. I would highly recommend to check in twice with this hostel before arriving since it could happen that they do not have your space available even though you booked. Yesterday we arrived there after booking the accommodation via Hostelworld just to find out that they do not have the available space that we booked available. They told us that they cannot login to their hostel world account because the person needed to verify the login is often traveling and hard to reach. As such, they cannot update their booking calendar in Hostelworld and you might end up standing there without a place as it was the case for us: We took a taxi to get there, had to search last minute a new place to stay (which you can imagine is usually a bit harder and can be more expensive). So, it took us 2hours and we had to pay another taxi to the new hostel. They also showed us our private room with a shared toilet and just for your information: this is a little 4/5 square meter chamber - which by itself is fine - but it is inside the dormitory. So, you have to cross the dormitory and take the stairs up to your room every time you go in and out (e.g. to the toilet) since the “private” room is just on the 2. Floor of the dorms building. It didn’t really feel like a private room. On a personal note, and I am aware that others might see this differently: I was quite disappointed that they made no efforts to compensate anything- not even by e.g. paying the taxi to the next hostel. We also ate some chip there because we arrived quite hungry but had to stay there for another 2 hours for the new accommodation and they even made us pay for that.

I stayed here after the lost city trek and it was a perfect paradise! Quiet, had a pool, there were hammocks and beds to lie around in, and beautiful flowers! I was recovering from an illness and very tired and this was perfect. I was surprised there was no one there when i was there - maybe not so many people know about this place! I didn’t mind because i really needed to recover. My private dorm was very clean and tranquil. I had such a great stay and it was exactly what I needed. I want to thank Diana because she was very kind and professional and gave me a lift on her moto to the ATM! I wish more people knew about this place!!

The single best experience I’ve ever had travelling! Jason and Gloria went way out of their way to show us around. During our stay, all guests ended up extending their stay, us included, as the atmosphere is absolutely incredible! Jason has an incredible way of bringing all guests together and creating a family. He clearly does it for the love of the game rather than for reviews or money. They would drive us to the different spots and spend the day with us just to make sure we don’t get “gringo:ed”. And Gloria a.k.a La Patrona is the most adorable and helpful person I’ve met in ages. The hostel itself is an absolute gem, but Jason and Gloria made our stay unforgettable.

We stayed there twice. Great place to chill. All of the staff is very helpful, nice and cool. The place is very clean and designed for relaxing. The owner even took us out fishing one morning on his friend's boat, and his wife and staff cooked up an awesome free lunch for everyone staying there with the catch. Definitely recommend to anyone going to Santa Marta

A very nice and chil place with the most friendly Canadian owner. He even brought us himself to Minca with his Jeep for free. Moreover, he offered us free beers and sangria on multiple occasions. The only downside was the shower of the private room with bath/toilet. There was no edge or something to stop the water of the shower, so the whole bathroom got wet when showering.

Hostal Casa Horizonte offers a range of amenities including a terrace, shared kitchen, tour desk, luggage storage, and laundry service. Guests can enjoy activities such as darts and table tennis on the property. The hostel's hilltop location rewards visitors with breathtaking views and stunning sunsets over the bay. The friendly staff, led by owner Javier and his family, go above and beyond to ensure guests feel at home. They are praised for their support in organizing activities and catering to special needs.
I loved the place and the atmosphere! Yes, you walk up a steep hill to get there but you get rewarded with an amazing view and sunsets over the bay. Angelina, Milena and the team were angels and supported us with everything we needed, from special dietary requirements to organising a masseuse, doing laundry. The owner Javier made us feel home with his relaxed and welcoming personality. For us, it was the perfect place to recover from our hike at the Lost City. Thank you for everything!

The hostels location is up on a hill but the steep climb is totally worth it. The views are stunning and the atmosphere is homely. The owner family, miss Lopez and her daughter do everything to make their guests feel well. the food is delicious and they were a very good support in organising the trip to Tayrona.

Awesome view from all of the hostal! The rooms were clean and nice. The employees are really friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner are good. And the pool was cleaned every day. Just keep in mind that this view means you have to “climb” to the hostel. The way up is a bit difficult.

All the terrible reviews about the owner are true. I’ve been in Colombia for 5 months and never experienced anything like it. There are also so many bugs everywhere, more than is normal. The pool is unclean. The WiFi doest work, I think the sociopathic owner unplugged it. I think the owner hates women as she was awful to the pretty women and nice to the men. You’re warned! Also difficult to escape considering the ferocious Rottweiler and the VERY STEEP hill, with unstable pathways. Stay in Cactus, much better.

Prepare to do some exercise because this hostel is located in a hill, however is the perfect combination of s country side house and close to the beach. You just have to walk 10 minutes to get.to the beach. You can cook here or they have a restaurant service, the pool and the view are amazing so it is totally worth it to go up the hill. Also some of the rooms have AC and there ara hamacs to lay down and enjoy the peace of the place. Also the host are very helpful and friendly. You need to go tho that hostel.

Lovely viewpoints with a pool. This is a Hostal but you can come and have a drink and enjoy the views. The gardens here are beautifully kept. Look at those flower arrangements they are stunning. It's a steap climb to get here but worth it once your sipping on that papaya smoothie. Owned by lovely ladies who will take care of you.

One star for the amazing view... we were made to feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable from the beginning when I sat down to work from the desk upstairs and one of the owners asked me why I had to work and then told me I would be bothered by the kids up there and that I should move... I moved to the outside area but the WiFi wouldn’t reach so I moved back inside and she looked really unhappy that I was sitting there like I shouldn’t be there at all. Then I moved down into my bedroom for the second half of the day where the WiFi wasn’t as good just because I felt so uncomfortable having her watching me making me feel like I shouldn’t be there. Then another day we asked about breakfast, which we were too late for. Which would have been completely fine but we were told off for even asking and told that we were already told the times for breakfast and again made to feel uncomfortable for even being there. Then we ordered food from elsewhere as we had just been told we were too late for the hotel breakfast. We were then told we had to take all our own rubbish with us because it wasn’t bought there at the hostel. Very weird. I felt like we were treated like children who had come to stay with their bitter aunt rather than paying customers in a hotel.

Super positive energy from the staff, goocollunicaruon to book the morning for the afternoon through WhatsApp, no complication, towel included (which became a luxury now in our world!), room cleaned up every day, air con, 5 min away from beach and restaurant, 7 min from dive centers, but so what you get an amazing view over Taganga with sunset facing the pool!

Rooms are bad, beds are extremely uncomfortable- like sleeping on a piece of wood. The place hasn’t been taken care of and they charged us 350.000 COP per night with no breakfast. The service wasn’t welcoming at all. Only good comments is that they were decent enough to give us back one night because I refused to stay a single minute there - they were aware they ripped us off. Honestly, is the only bad comment I have ever texted but it was such a bad experience that I had to share it. Worst hotel in Colombia

Incorrectly located on Google map. Give yourself 2 hours to bus terminal if using public transportation. Sweet ocean view and pool with adequate 5 bed dorm con aircon and private bathroom. The BEST hostel in Santa Marta by far. For me, best is rated by the ambiance created by the hostel itself and their effort to unite their guests and not only pocket money from them. This hostel succeeded for my in ways that hostels 3x their cost have failed during my travels in Colombia such as Sierra Minca, Selina & Media Luna. To sum it up, it's a trickle down effect in my experience, most of the big chains or more well-known hostels I went to had owners or managers that are more about making money yet not care about fostering unforgettable connections amongst their guests. Fortunately, Tayrona Colors truly loves giving their guests great experiences and fostering connections amongst their guests. You really feel like family when you stay their and they truly take care of you. I came with a big group and we kept extending our stay because we fell in love with the hostel and the marvelous staff and the owner herself, who is the sweetest most sincere woman you will ever meet. Besides procuring the most incredible ambiance, this hostel has an incredible view, optimal for watching breathtaking sunsets while drinking a beer or eating dinner. If you stay anywhere else in Santa Marta, you are absolutely MAD!!! This hostel is where eloquence, beauty, comfort, fun and tranquility merge to create the ultimate hostel experience. They also have private rooms or a private apartment as well.

The pieces are small, but functional, the same as the bathroom. Unfortunately, the room was quite dirty and the shower base was leaking water to the point that it flooded the bathroom. The last morning there was an argument on the ground floor, and when we left there was a man at reception (not a guest) who made fun of our accent. (Original) Buena ubicación. But what I thought was worst were the mattress and pillows, they were plastic!!! It's like you were sleeping on the seats of an old bus, uncomfortable, it lasted and at night the sheets slide and you wake up stuck to the plastic... the experience is very unpleasant. It's a shame because the facilities are good and the hotel concept could be better if they redesigned the administration.

Clean hostel, spacious private rooms, strong hot shower. Rooftop is an added bonus, jacuzzi wasn't working but was not necessary in Santa Marta heat. Chill receptionist, especially the lady working days who went above and beyond - smiley, friendly and v helpful! Would return.

Good place to stay in Santa Marta. Good location, quiet rooms (if you choose one not facing the street), good aircon, good shower, nice rooftop. Not a very social hostal though. Staff was mostly friendly, the guy at check-in could have at least offered me to assist with the baggage.

Perfect choice! Super friendly and helpful staff, central location, close to the bus stop for Tayrona, spacious rooms, beds with curtains! They also storaged my luggage for free for 4 days while I was hiking around. Kevin went above and beyond for helping me get a bus for Bogota during the high season of Semana Santa. Highly recommended!

Well located nearby the bus stop from the airport and also the ones to Minca and Tayrona. Friendly and helpful staff, and the dorms are immaculate with very comfortable and huge beds! They also have a great rooftop with a jacuzzi. WiFi worked perfectly. Great value for a super affordable price :) gracias!
