The chicken restaurant Southern in ATX is a convenient, down-home southern fare place with an industrial vibe. The Hot Fried Chicken Biscuit here is as delicious and comforting as its meaty alternative, and the chicken is solid even daydream worthy.
This is probably the best chicken place I've ever been too. It's owned by the Pappy's people next door and shares a building with them. We came on a Friday night, about 6pm, and there was no wait at all. However, there is limited seating inside, so it is possible to not have a spot to eat upon arrival if they were to be busy. There is some seating outside near Pappy's, but that only works if the weather is nice. The Fried Chicken Sandwich was good. A big piece of chicken breast, and the bun was toasted and buttery. But the real star was the Chicken Tenders. My girl and I both enjoyed them more than any other we've ever tried. There have been several spots in the past that we used to frequent weekly, and this is better than any of them. The chicken is perfectly cooked, still juicy, and the Hot Honey sauce was delicious. Too bad were not from around here or we would be coming here every week.

If you meant to go to Pappys and they were out of everything when you got there, and now you're wondering if you should give Southern a shot, YES. Yes you should. Same owners, same passion for what they do and crazy big portions over here too. I would highly suggest going with a few people and sampling/sharing. Their most basic chicken is highly flavored- even with just their regular batter and herbs. Not spicy, picky kids will still like it. I opted for HOT and could've standed to bump up a heat or two, but gave my lips a mild sting. I'm still full 3 hours later- and I got the salad and only finished HALF! we also tried a classic hot sandwich with the mac & cheese (mac n cheese connoisseur husband said 🔥) and the surf n turf. The spice blend on the fish is still spicy without sauce and they're nice, curly, thin pieces of fish, which I prefer over a big ol wet bite of fried fish. The crew is extremely hard working and sweet. Look at the menu and narrow it down beforehand- it's hard to order in line under pressure unless you're a regular. Next time- dessert! Banana pudding 🍌?! 😋

Awesome place to eat!! Clean restaurant and friendly staff, and food was super delicious! My husband had the tenders in mild with slaw and fries, and he loved it!!! I had the tenders in hot honey with mashed potatoes and gravy and mac and cheese, and it was all delicious! Would love to come back and eat here again…I would love to try the cluckin hot on my chicken next time!! Definitely recommend this place if you’re in St. Louis!!
Heather H — Google review
Quite a shame they closed this one down. Some of the best chicken in STL.
Jason W — Google review
Great places to eat, the chicken and the BLT sandwich were delicious. 8/13/22 update: we returned for more. We got the catfish po’boy and the chicken sandwich, fries, and Mac N cheese. The catfish was really really good. The chicken sandwich is better than Popeyes’s chicken sandwich for sure. The Mac N Cheese was cheesy and tasty. The fries of course were crispy, hot, and well seasoned.

Here’s what you need to know: absolutely loved my southern chicken sandwich. I ordered mild (to avoid heartburn now that I’m in my mid 40s) and it was just the right amount of heat but SO MUCH FLAVOR. The sandwich was well sized and the chicken was insanely tender for a chicken breast (I’m assuming some sort of a buttermilk marination), and the seasoned batter is to die for. Coleslaw was pretty mediocre and just not good. Had hoped for more there. Ambiance is just OK - casual but tables weren’t clean. It’s right next to Pappy’s smokehouse and owned by the same owners so your view is of the smokers as you are seated in the sandwich shop. Service was slow, even though at 3:30PM on a Sunday, it was nearly empty and winded down. Excellent pricing at $10.75 for a great sandwich with a side.
Ajit K — Google review
Awesome food, great atmosphere, and very friendly staff. The chicken was incredibly. It’s a different style of hot chicken compared to Nashville and you’ll be glad you tried it. We are new to Saint Louis and this is the first restaurant we visited. They definitely set the bar high. Thanks!
Jason F — Google review
My ole man picked this place out the blue and we struck gold. Food was absolutely amazing. We both ordered the 4 chicken tenders with 2 sides. Food was hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The greens were delicious as well as the macaroni and cheese. The potatoes and gravy will make you dance. The chicken comes in mild or hot. The mild was pretty damn hot and I was glad I didn't get the hot or it would have been too hot. I was disappointed that it seemed as tho the air wasn't on. I was hot eating spicy chicken in a hot restaurant. Other then that I was totally impressed and a satisfied customer. Keep up the good work guys!!

Hodak's Restaurant & Bar is a beloved spot in St. Louis, known for its classic American menu with a focus on delicious fried chicken. This Benton Park establishment has been serving up their famous deep-fried yardbird for nearly 50 years and continues to be a favorite among locals. The menu offers budget-friendly options, including generously portioned sandwiches and sides, but the half golden fried chicken plate at just $9.50 is a standout.
Perfect experience. Greeted at the door by Richard where he discovered i was a world famous Fine Artist and we were treated like i was The KinG of STLmo. I even received a letter the next day in my mail asking how our Hodak's experience was. but are you Experienced?, well Jimi i am now...lol
Steve G — Google review
Very good fried chicken. It may sound weird, but I liked their fried chicken livers more than the chicken. The breading on the chicken has no seasoning. Quality chicken, nice crunch, zero spice. Again, very good. I just like at least some seasoning. Service is outstanding. Place has tons of character as you would expect from an establishment that's been around since 1962. A must stop for anyone on a fried chicken journey.
Tony U — Google review
I went to Hodak’s for lunch. Someone suggested for me to try it bc of the chicken. I did and I didn’t like it. The breading was too thick for my liking and the chicken was bland. It was very juicy! Amy was my server and she was a doll! Customer service is very good!
Tiara R — Google review
So I have mixed feelings about this place. The last time coming here I was disappointed about the chicken having no seasoning. This time around I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and that was delicious. The coleslaw on top adds a unique crunch to the tender chicken. As for the sides, meh. They were definitely giving the instant mashed potatoes you get from the grocery store (just add water and mix). Yeahhh, I’ve had better.
Samantha M — Google review
I've come to Hodaks three times now and each time I have tried something different. Unfortunately, I have not been impressed with the food aside from the salmon there isn't a lot of flavor. The service and atmosphere are good everyone is usually friendly.
Candi L — Google review
We had a very late lunch today. My husband had the chicken dinner and I had the salmon. The chicken portion was so big that he took home two pieces and some fries. He really liked the chicken. The salmon was charbroiled with a bit of dill; it was quite delicious. The sides were mashed potatoes, canned corn, and slaw. The potatoes and corn were ok. The vinegar slaw was yummy. Since I eat gluten free, I was glad I had some options. Overall, we had a great experience. The waitress was friendly, and the atmosphere was laid back.
Julie E — Google review
This time, I stopped in for lunch. Had the Chicken parmesan meal with 3 sides. Had the mashed potatoes, the baked beans, and the onion rings. Everything was properly warm except for the onion rings. They tasted and felt like they had been sitting around for a while. It was served pretty quickly, and overall, I was satisfied. I was disappointed that even though the bartender came back by my spot more than once that he never bothered to ask me how my meal was during my time there.
Curt B — Google review
Fried chicken was good. Fries were especially good. Favorite part was Amy, the bartender, interacting with the regulars.

Restaurant
Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken is a long-standing chain known for its spicy fried chicken and classic sides, all served in a casual setting. The Maplewood location offers a Memphis-style take on their renowned Henny Penny dish, featuring a flavorful marinade and just the right amount of spice under a caramel-colored crust. While the standard sides like beans and slaw are tasty, the fried okra stands out with its fresh and well-battered goodness.
Man I could have sworn I left a review here years ago. Guess I never actually posted it 🤷‍♂️ Gus’s is the absolute bees knees. This chicken is perfectly cooked and mouth-wateringly juicy. Crispy as the dickens. I believe they use a spicy marinade because it permeates into the meat, itself. Top 3 southern style fried chicken in STL hands down. My only qualm is that they use cheap, low quality ranch. I counteract this shortcoming by bringing my own ranch from Wingstop which always pairs beautifully. 9.1/10 Clucks
Rusty S — Google review
The star of the menu here at Gus’ I will give a 5/5! The fried chicken was well seasoned, crunchy, juicy and served hot! The spice level on the chicken (breast, wing, thigh, leg) is a 6/10. I love spicy food and this was a good spice level for chicken. For those who are spice sensitive, you should try the chicken tenders because that spice level is 4/10. The sides were nothing special. We had baked beans, fries and mac and cheese. I think the beans are just pork ‘n beans with some green bell peppers and extra seasoning. The fries were just regular fries with seasoning salt and the mac and cheese was flavorless. We had fried pickles as an appetizer and they were AMAZING! Our server Peter was amazing! He was super attentive and delightful.
Sharice C — Google review
No photos .. Finished my 1/2 bird before the thought hit me to snap a pic. Why? The moist, tender, delicious chicken better than expected. I can’t wait to eat here again. Did get photos on the way to my car!
Stephen G — Google review
Excellent dining experience every time I go. Seat yourself and get ready for some amazing chicken and sides.
Daniel B — Google review
I'd give 3.5. $65 for 12 pieces of chicken legs and thighs and 3 smallish sides too much for me. Chicken was fresh and had a nice fry, little too spicy for me Fries my son liked, ok for me Okra good with dip, without it under seasoned Coleslaw best I've had. Food quality good.Overall too pricey in my opinion
Corinne L — Google review
The chicken was juicy and cole slaw was amazing! Very creamy and sweet. The hot on the chicken was subtle and not overpowering.
Yvonne C — Google review
The special was 2 chicken breasts which I ordered. Some of the edges were dry which were hard to bite and chew. Probably sat under the warmer too long. Coleslaw was wonderful and the baked beans were outstanding. Can’t recommend the warmed pecan pie enough. As good as homemade. Service was very good. Atmosphere was usual for a local diner, however the patrons were all enjoying themselves
Jack S — Google review
Started off decent but went south at the end. Please properly educate your new staff. Asked if there was pork in the greens and the waitress said no. Thankfully, did a double take of the menu and it said contains pork. Also, the wait staff this particular evening was not really being customer aware and had to wait over 15 minutes to get the bill after finally deciding to walk up to the register. Then was told the restaurant was busy (with 3 tables including ours) and watched them prioritize carry out prior. Just a word of advice to give a bit more awareness to the customers who come inside to patronize the establishment and not be argumentative and condescending. I understand training staff takes time. However, if it truly busy allow the more experienced workers to check out customers.

Fried chicken takeaway
Grace Meat + Three offers a modern twist on the classic meat and three concept, featuring a menu of choice proteins and sides with nightly specials. Despite its unassuming appearance, chef/owner Rick Lewis showcases his culinary talent through "blue-collar" dishes that exude refinement and skill. The restaurant is renowned for its inventive Southern cuisine, particularly the acclaimed fried chicken which has been voted the best in Missouri by Food Network.
Kind of similar to a fast food restaurant where you order at the desk upon arrival and then find an empty table. They will bring your food out to your table based on your given number. This place offers your basic fried foods including chicken and catfish. I had the catfish meal deal and loved it. Plenty of food for a relatively low price. We also had the fried pickle appetizer. The food is very filling here so don’t overestimate what you can eat. There is no dedicated parking lot so you’ll have to find street parking. Overall a good quick and easy restaurant if you’re eating on a timeline but don’t want fast food.
Aliza B — Google review
I got the surf and turf platter and it was outstanding! Fresh and full of flavor! Wings were amazing and the fish and shrimp were very flavorful! Felt like I was back home in the south!
J M — Google review
OMG. So good! Well except the Mac and cheese and corn bread. I think the corn bread was burnt which is why it wasn't good this day, so I will try it again. I was not a fan of the Mac and cheese though. It tasted a lot like beer. We had the collard greens, coleslaw, fried green tomatoes, fried shrimp and the fried chicken and that was all exceptional. They also have really good iced tea.
Karen D — Google review
Food came out quick. Nice and piping hot. Mac and cheese was delicious. The greens were well seasoned and delicious.😋. The shrimp po boy however shrimp was overcooked. The sandwich had way to many pickles. It was messy. The fried green tomatoes with the sauce were 💣. The fish was good. Cooked well nice and moist. I would go back again and try something different.

In STL for the day and my husband wanted fried chicken. Looked up the best in STL and this is what was most recommended. He got 1/2 Chicken spicy and I got the OG (added bacon). Both were phenomenal. I have already recommended to people back home. Will definitely be back. Also had cornbread, greens and cole slaw. All very good.

This place was amazing! The chicken was tender and flavorful. We got the hot and extra hot and it was just perfect. Two of their chicken sandwiches. Atmosphere is family friendly. They do have flavorful sauces.

I really enjoyed myself at Grace Meat +Three. The first thing I liked was the CUSTOMER SERVICE that my friend and i received. By no means am I trying to offend, but I didn't get the gentleman's name that gave great assistance. He was a handsome, bald, Caucasian man with a beard. This guy was so nice and helpful. He came around to make sure our meals were good, cleared our tables while we ran our mouths, and even told us to make ourselves comfortable while we talked. The food was good too. Everything was hot, fresh, and good. I ordered the quarter spicy chicken and garlic mashed potatoes and gravy. The chicken was nice and spicy! My mashed potatoes were truly garlicky, which I rather enjoyed. My friend got a chicken sandwich that she loved along with some good ol mac and cheese. Honestly, it was all good. We'll definitely be back. ×÷÷Update!××× We've been back several times. We've met the owner (who now is more like our buddy). Still impressed with the food and service. I even order extra hot sauce on the side now cause I'm more familiar with the menu. The hand pie is a "must try" also!

Chicken restaurant
Porter's Fried Chicken is a beloved counter-service eatery nestled in Maplewood, known for its no-frills approach and mouthwatering offerings. With a cozy dining area that often buzzes with eager customers, this family-owned gem has been serving up delicious fried chicken, fish, and shrimp for over 30 years. The aroma of frying oil wafts through the air as patrons eagerly await their orders—typically ready in about 20 minutes if you call ahead.
This place has remained one of the best southern style fried chicken places for years. Nothing crazy or different. Just some of the best textbook fried chicken you can get in STL. I prefer the spicy breading over the normal one but both are spectacular. 9.1-8.8 clucks respectively.
Rusty S — Google review
Delicious, hot and fresh chicken. I haven't had a bad experience yet.The chicken is always hot, and fresh, Never too greasy as you would expect fried chicken to be. The batter that they use for their chicken is good, not overly crunchy. Their Cole slaw is phenomenal. They offer two sauces of your choice (ranch, honey mustard, blue cheese and hot sauce ). The hot sauce they use is one of the best I've had.Your dinner meal comes with a dinner roll. They also sell deserts. There is limited seating inside and a decent sized parking lot that they share with the two neighboring businesses. Friendly staff. The pricing is reasonable, comparable to other chicken places.
Erika P — Google review
It’s 2025 and they don’t allow ordering ahead online. You have to call and wait in line to pay when you arrive. They get busy and are really slow. The chicken is good but not worth the long wait. They have a website that only shows the menu and location…no ordering. The inside is plain and dark. Nothing special about it. I mean even Crown Candy updated their business…is this place so cheap that they can’t put some money into updating it.!?
Rebel 4 — Google review
Absolutely THE best fried chicken I've had in years! It's a little expensive but the portions are worth it, we did the family meal and it was all worth it! We will definitely be back. *We only had to wait bc we ordered the catfish*
Sara K — Google review
So sad! Hadn't been to Porter's for years! I consider myself a fried chicken connoisseur! I ordered the fried livers and a box of chicken... My livers were 1 cm away from being burnt. Couldn't eat! My fried Chicken. Tasted like fried fish which I did not order! I was so incredibly disappointed, especially throwing away $30 worth of food!! Which really pains me to do but had no choice... I'd like to remind people to check their food before leaving. Not that you would know how it tastes, but I could have visually seen that the chicken livers were not edible. Again, So sad!!!
Toni W — Google review
I came here on Sunday at 12:20 pm I ordered a two piece chicken dinner that comes with two sides. I told the 14 year old lookin girl at the counter that I wanted a double order mashed potatoes instead of the coleslaw. I got my food and drove to a shady area to eat in the car. I opened the box and there sits a mashed potato order and a coleslaw! I called the restaurant and they said they will put my name in the “ book” to replace next time. I started to eat the chicken breast : 1) ice cold 2 ) EXTREMELY dry and texture was not soft! GROSS 🤢 3) the chicken leg was the same way In conclusion, this place is garbage! Apparently the old lady that cooks cannot read an order ticket and could not serve hot food if her life depended on it !!! I feel like I just threw $12 out the window! THERE ARE MUCH BETTER CHOICES OUT THERE TO EAT AT THAN THIS PLACE! God I miss King Edward’s on Watson. It was a 1000times better than this dump!
Brent M — Google review
There's a reason they have been in business Forever! I bet it's been almost 50yrs...? If you want an overpriced, fancy, bland chicken place, don't come here. Always great chicken and always great fast service! Thank you for always making sure we all have a good if not great visit, everytime. Keep up the good work! I'll see you tomorrow.

Byrd & Barrel is a small, friendly place with good food and a convenient drive-thru option. The Nashville sandwich and poboy are delicious, with the Nashville sandwich being described as a blast of flavor. The Byrd sauce, similar to buffalo sauce, adds great taste to the dishes. The South Side Poutine with Mushroom Gravy and white meat Nugs with Byrd Sauce and BBQ Sauce are also recommended choices.
Great addition to Dogtown! Atmosphere is fire!! They really did an amazing job with the layout and decorating. The chicken sandwich is HUGE and so delicious! We’ll definitely be back for more!

Byrd & Barrel is a good stop if you’re looking for some creative food. Our meal consisted of a Mother Clucker, Tots, a Chicken Parm, Mac & Cheese, and Fries. I have to say the restaurant is in a great location with a cool bar behind it. If you’re looking for some late night food, this might be the spot for you. The Chicken Parm was really good, I would have to say it’s a recommendation and I would also recommend the Mother Clucker. I was excited about the Mac & Cheese, but that was a bit of a disappointment. For you gluten free eaters out there, I feel like it’s important to note that this fried chicken restaurant actually has a dedicated fryer separate from their floured foods, which could allow you the opportunity to eat.

✨ The Kool-Aid pickles? Totally delicious, so sweet, tangy, and sour! 🍟 The fries were crispy, golden, crunchy, and absolutely amazing. 🍗 The chicken bites weren’t really my cup of tea, but my friend’s sandwich was a hit. She was raving about it. 👯‍♀️ For big groups, seating can be a bit of a squeeze, there’s basically just one table for a larger group. We had to shove two together and ended up a little snug. 🐔 Still, if you’re a chicken fan, this place is definitely a must try!

As always their food is amazing! We had a hospital stay in St Louis and had our lunch delivered. Everything was delicious and the order was on time.

Rude staff and inconsistent quality. Sometimes fair quality (overly breaded in my opinion but if that’s your thing you’ll enjoy it) while other times the chicken (Sunday sandwhich in particular) looks no better than a McChicken or as my friend worded it “the chicken sandwich you get from an elementary school cafeteria”. Only good thing is the tots are fantastic, I’ll give you credit for that, but besides that not worth it and hoping it gets better with consistency and service or sadly I’ll be sure to eat before I enjoy the patio at Tamm!

Food was excellent. The bartenders had poor attitudes especially the brunette. Seemed really put out. Sorry we’re paying for a family of 6 and expect service? Not cheap but with that attitude I’ll go elsewhere.

My husband and I came here because one of our friends in Texas recommended it because he went to college with the owner. We thought it was just going to be a decent meal, we were wrong. It was awesome! Best chicken we have had, our waiter was awesome and the beer selection was good. Can’t wait to come back.

Love the bar, dislike the service. They were quite rude to the other staff at the bar….. good tacos tho. Not worth the rudeness Also 29 minutes for two tacos???

The Fountain on Locust is a former Stutz auto showroom turned into a restaurant that offers classic American dishes and specialty ice cream drinks. The place features art deco murals and has a nostalgic feel, reminiscent of formal dances in high school. The menu includes unique international offerings from various cultures, as well as their own specialties like pickle soup, fabulous ice cream, and original cocktails. The restaurant's beautiful original decor and radio show provide something for everyone's preferences.
Fountain on Locust - A Sweet Savior! Our initial plan was a fancy ice cream treat at the Soda Fountain in Union, but after being completely ignored, we decided to try the Fountain on Locust instead – and boy, are we glad we did! This place was amazing from the moment we walked in. The restaurant was clean and had a genuinely friendly atmosphere. Our waitress was so kind and attentive, making us feel right at home. But let's talk about the ice cream! It was exactly the "not your normal scoop in a cone" experience we were hoping for. From a classic Sunday to an over-the-top banana split and a perfect root beer float, everything was fantastic. My daughter's milkshake was particularly impressive – they even brought over the extra that wouldn't fit in her cup! Was it a lot? Absolutely. Did we devour every last bit? You bet! It was simply too delicious to leave behind. To top it off, it was only a quick 7-minute drive from the other place. If you're looking for a truly special ice cream experience with wonderful service, skip the rest and head straight to the Fountain on Locust. You won't be disappointed!

Fun atmosphere, really good food - and the ice cream, of course, was amazing. Waitress was very kind, attentive and helpful. They have a lot of fun adult beverages but also plenty of regular ice cream options for the kids too. 🍦 🍨 It is pricey if you eat and do ice cream, but for an occasional treat I think it is worth it.

My friend took me here finally and it felt like a hidden gem. They have so many drink and food options. The interior is fun and has a great vibe. Any occasion: girls night, date, or family outing. Our waiter was so friendly and made it feel like he was just hanging out with a friend. I got the pesto chicken sandwich and it was a perfect 10/10. The ice cream flight was also really good. Overall it was a great experience and I cannot believe it took me this long to come here. I will definitely be coming back.

Saw a review by the post dispatch on TikTok so decided to try it out before going to the Fox Theater. They did not disappoint! Cool art deco vibe, really nice helpful staff. The website allowed us to make a reservation online, but it turns out they don’t do reservations on Saturday afternoon no worries, we got sat at the bar This turned out to be the best place to sit because we got to watch them make all of the Sundays and other ice cream creations, so much for the eye to see! We shared the hummus with pita bread, My husband had the corn chowder soup. It was amazing. I snuck a taste. I had the Gouda grilled cheese and a cup of their fall harvest soup also delicious! We couldn’t stay long enough for dessert, but I did start my meal with an orange sherbet mocktail, highly recommend. This is a must try restaurant in St. Louis and it turns out it’s walkable from the Fox Theater, which was great, allowed us to park, walk down have our lunch and walk back in time for the Saturday matinee.

We came in for dessert about an hour before closing. We were greeted and seated immediately. Cute place inside. The food looked good. So my husband and I shared the Late Night Delight. It was fantastic and a boozy. This place has adult ice cream as well as being family friendly. I definitely would recommend this for family or couples. If it's your birthday they will shower you with bubbles 🫧.

They have a gluten-free menu. The dill pickle soup was amazing. It had a potato base but tasted just like a dill pickle. I also had a delicious chicken pesto open-faced sandwich on gluten free bread. It is so rare to find a restaurant with gluten free bread. I always try to get a sandwich.

This place is magical. My husband is a vegetarian and I am not, and we were both in heaven with the menu. Came in on a Saturday around 9:30pm and got seated and served immediately. The service was incredible and the vibes immaculate. I would return to St. Louis just to eat here again, that’s how much we loved it!

Farmhaus Restaurant, located in Clifton Heights, is a cozy spot that embodies the essence of Midwestern fine dining. Chef Kevin Willmann, a James Beard nominee, showcases his Gulf Coast roots through seafood dishes while emphasizing local and seasonal ingredients from Missouri. The restaurant's journey from its humble beginnings to becoming a top dining destination has been remarkable. With a focus on community and fresh ingredients, Farmhaus offers an intriguing dining experience with its chef-driven menu.
My impromptu dinner at Farmhaus was a stellar experience! All of the staff was so attentive- Ben, Skylar, and Jill- and they made me feel welcomed. I had the Chicken Liver Mousse with Raisin Chutney which was like a pate. Then I had the Fennel Sausage Tagliatelle for my main meal and it was savory and robust with flavor. Then for dessert I had the strawberry angel food cake, which was heavenly! Recommend it to anyone- locals and tourists alike!

Disappointing, I made a reservation for shortly after they opened. They called to confirm and yet, still were not ready for me. I was a party of 1, they first tried to tick me away in the corner of the bar area. But then moves me to the middle of the dining room to a table where one side is a bench seat and the other side is a chair. I was the only patron in the entire restaurant and thought it would be weird to sit and face the wall so I chose tawat side where the 2 benches did not meet and there is a 3” gap in the middle of my seat. Very uncomfortable. I figured they had many parties coming so all the other tables were spoken for. I ordered a glass of wine and started with the beef tartar was supposed to have arugula but had frise. With my eyes nor my taste buds did I detect the cured egg yolk that was supposed to be in the dressing?? The mushroom salad sounded so good but again disappointed, pecans not toasted, warm bacon vinaigrette was not warm, apparently rehydrated mushrooms that were tough and without flavor except salt. The red drum was nice, (again lay off the salt chef!). warm and flavorful, the whipped white sweet potatoes and spoon bread. I ordered dessert of boiled and baked bread pudding with berry coulee (absent) in a vanilla bourbon sauce and this puck of a muffin tIn shaped “bread pudding”. Must have been mass produced weeks ago, pulled out of the refrigerator, not adequately warmed, a miniature little mint leaf stuck on the top and doused in the vanilla bourbon sauce. The top level of “bagels” nearly broke a tooth. I literally could not cut through it so I picked out from the bottom. Bagels are not the right bread for bread pudding. I hope others have shared that with you too. The vanilla bourbon sauce was not like any I had ever tasted and I have tasted some great ones! If you have those type of prices and toute farm to table, you need to be making each dish fresh and properly as stated on the menu. Lay off the salt and let the food speak. I can only assume it was the wrong month to experience this place at its best. Maybe in the summer it would be experienced differently. You decide, I won’t be returning.

Everything is so fresh and homemade! Each course was amazing starting with the beef carpaccio with some whipped cheese that I could have drank. The pasta and fish were some of the best I’ve had in St. Louis. Looking forward to doing the chef tasting menu next time!!

Farmhaus in St. Louis is over here redefining dinner theater. Quite literally! The Salad of the Year goes to them! They come table side with a shaken up mason jar full of bright veggies and then dramatically dump it onto a plate. I’ve seen Broadway shows with less flair. Naturally, I got the tuna steak because, as the self-appointed Meat Police of St. Louis, I have a duty to keep it pescatarian. #StLouisPescatarianApproved and proud. This place is another underrated spot in STL. I’ve been before, but it’s been way too long. Here’s your official reminder to put this spot on your list. The location is also adorable, surrounded by every possible type of restaurant and bar so you can make a whole night of it.

Delicious! Had the pre fix menu but with a twist; chef easily accommodated our non meat request and subbed out the beef for the fish. Also enjoyed a mushroom salad and a glass of Prosecco before the pre fix. The various flavors of each dish coalesced into an explosion of sophisticated and elevated flavors that satisfied and satiated the senses. Service was excellent too. Worthy of a repeat!

For a pricey farm, a table restaurant the “farm” aspect was lacking the star of the bruschetta – tomatoes – were hard and/or not flavorful. When I gave my feedback to the manager after she asked how was so far the response was “wow no one else has complained. In fact they said they were really good.“ That is my least Favorite Response to feedback But they did do the right thing and took the dish off my bill The green beans that came with my $60 steak were overdone. The mashed potatoes however were excellent. Now for the $60 steak, which was a nice size, I asked for a rare medium rare And there was little browning on the outside and the fat was not browned off. I assume that this is Because they cook it on a grill, Which is not a great way to cook a steak on the rare side. The Demi glass was not thick. It was runny and tasted almost like soy sauce. I found the grouper dish that my husband got very bland and all it was was the fish and some zucchini with a little muffin of spoon bread. All in all, I didn’t find the food worth the prices

As the Halloween season draws near, there's no better destination to embrace the eerie spirit than Lemp Mansion in St. Louis. This historic site, once home to the affluent Lemp family—renowned brewers of the 19th century—is steeped in a rich yet tragic history marked by mysterious deaths that have led to its reputation as a haunted house. Nestled in Benton Park, Lemp Mansion is not just a ghostly attraction; it also serves as an enchanting venue for small weddings.
I haven't been to the Lemp Mansion for a while and went with a friend from out of town. It's a beautiful place, very historic. You can go for ghost tours or regular tours, or you can spend the night. We were just having dinner. Or waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive, and the food was delicious. They have changed their menu so that there are more items available to order, which is nice. The wine was very good as well. Looks like they have some really nice cocktails, maybe next time. I would definitely recommend, not only for the food but just to look around. I've spent the night there several times as well, and really enjoyed it. The staff leaves at night, and you can roam the entire house.

This review has been a long time in the making. We visited the Lemp Mansion in November of 2017 for the ghost hunt/tour. The experience was truly exceptional, and we regret the delay in our review. During the tour, the hosts were extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Lemp family and the building. They were very patient with everyone on the tour and allowed us time to roam and do some investigating. The one thing that sticks out is that as part of the event that we participated in (not sure if they still do this), they provide a night vision video camera to all of the guests. We have been on hundreds of ghost tours/hunts all over the country, and this is the only tour where they have done that, and at the end, they give you the SD card from your camera. We recently found our footage from that night, which is what is now sparking off this review. What a great keepsake and memento that we now have documenting our awesome adventure at the Lemp Mansion. We wanted to go back the next day to have dinner in the dining room; however, our schedule at the time did not permit that to happen. The next time we find ourselves in St. Louis, we will make sure to have dinner at the mansion. Thank you for a wonderful memory.

We went on the ghost tour and then stayed overnight in the lavender room. The ghost tour was so fun! We all got infrared cameras to record our experiences and they had a tarot card reader there afterwards. Then when we stayed the night we were able to walk around and explore the mansion at night. It’s a spooky place for sure! We will definitely be coming back.

Juniper is a restaurant in St. Louis, MO that offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere with an interior reminiscent of a barn rehabbed by Brooklyn hipsters.
I’ve been coming to Juniper for years solely for the fried chicken so when the restaurant transitioned to the poultry-centric “Sunday Best” I was ecstatic. Sure, the old menu was filled with gourmet delights that a copious amount of people enjoyed. I was not one of those people. I ONLY ever got the fried chicken. People with whom I dined ventured off the beaten path into the depths of gastronomic pleasantries but I remained stalwart. Sunday Best held true to the fried chicken I’ve grown to love at Juniper. One could even say there are slight improvements upon the old recipe. The chicken itself was cooked wonderfully. Juicy on the inside, crispity-crunchity on the outside. I particularly enjoyed the spicy version after trying both side-by-side. Seemingly a Nashville inspired hot oil. The strips were thick and delectable but the main attraction for me was the bone-in variety. I had the breast and wing. Both were fall-off-the-bone tender. Well seasoned and mouthwatering. 9.15/10 clucks. The sides were hit or miss. The bread plate was AMAZING. The cornbread was my favorite followed by the fluffy Cheez-Its. My friend got the mac and cheese and could only take a single bite of it. Just not their cup of tea. The cucumber tomato salad was good but the collard greens were too sweet. The fries were crispy and texturally magnificent but very slightly too salty. My biggest let down was the ranch. For years I had smuggled Wingstop ranch into Juniper to accompany my chicken. For whatever reason they just didn’t offer it back then. Now they have a buttermilk-dill ranch and let me tell you it should be called “dill sauce in the style of ranch”. Very overpowering dill notes and the texture is odd and lumpy. I reckon I’ll be going back to bringing the ol’ trusty Wingstop ranch with me on future visits. Overall I LOVED the chicken and the atmosphere. The Cheerwine was a tremendous surprise as well. I enjoyed the Cheerwine cocktail AND a bottle of the plain, unadulterated, soft drink with my meal. Both really hit the spot. First rate service and friendly staff. Very strongly recommend.

We ordered half bird spicy, bread basket, mac n cheese, collard greens, and some smokey catfish dip. First, chicken was absolutely amazing. 10/10. And mac n cheese, creamy and well cooked but maybe need little bit more of seasoning. Collard greens, good texture but it was bit sweet to me. Smokey catfish dip had very clean flavor. Overall, I will come back to try other things! Also our server, Seth was very attentive and kind!

Was a great Date night pick. The atmosphere was new and vibrant. Well lit and upbeat feel. The food was excellent, large portions at a reasonable price. The service was great for a busy night. Not a long wait once our order was taken. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Everything about this place was charming, especially our waiter Sam K. I just loved him. Although the menu isn’t as extensive as the ones in some of the other google reviews (the restaurant went through a rebrand recently), the items they did have were amazing, and we left feeling full and happy. Highly recommend!

My Partner took me on a date night to Juniper. I had never heard of the place before and was excited as I didn't know what to expect. Driving to the place it was beautiful from the outside looking in. Very sleek. I noticed there were several tables with chairs set up for outside dining. Going inside I was amazed at the ambiance and decorations of the establishment. It was sleek yet modern it was very nice. There was this interesting chandelier I noticed upon entry and I took a picture of it for you. He did make reservations and we were seated immediately. The staff that greeted us was nice and polite. Getting to out table and looking at the menus I couldn't decide what to order for my meal. I kept seeing this St. Louis chicken and hot sauce. It sounds so good as there were several choices to choose from. I was torn between the chicken and fish. I ended up getting the chicken strip meal with a side salad. My partner ordered the short ribs meal. He also go a bread sampler plate and y'all that bread was so dang good. We had several types of breads, a container of butter and jam. It was so good. Y'all gotta get this plate. I tried my partners short ribs and they were good. He tried my chicken strips. Everything we had was good at Juniper. Next time I will try the chicken with the St. Louis hot sauce. This was a great establishment for a date night or a night out with the family. The staff was awesome and put out high chairs for the families who did come into the restaurant. This place is wheelchair accessible as well. I had no complaints about this place at all and recommend that you try it out for your next date or family night. #Tonetta #speakyourtruth

Creative dishes and great vibes. The flavor combination was asian meets southern comfort food, unlike other places I have been before. The fried chicken had the flavor infused completely to the inside, so you won't get bland pieces of meat, plus the crunch was perfect. They had smeared a small amount of smoked mayo on the buns of fried chicken sandwich, and that was absolute highlight of my meal! The shrimp and grits had spicy salsa on it, so it was refreshing with the chili that was present on creamy multigrain grits. Definitely can smell the smoke on the shrimp, which was superb! Will come back for a different season.

WOW!!!! Food was incredible. We ordered the whole fried chicken with 3 large sides. It was the best, the chicken was crispy, juicy, goodness, mashed potatoes with pot lickka gravy was awesome, vegan collards greens was perfect. We truly enjoyed the food and atmosphere here. I would give Juniper 10 🌟 I recommend that you try this place, And don't let me forget about the staff, everyone was very polite and courteous, our waiter Kevin did an excellent job.

The Pat Connolly Tavern is a classic Irish bar and restaurant located on the second floor of The 1942 Room, offering a space for the community to gather over food and drinks. With its old-school charm, it recently celebrated its 75th anniversary as one of the oldest bars in the area. Known for serving great pub eats and unique menu items, such as their renowned fried chicken and shrimp dishes, this tavern provides a friendly atmosphere with sports on screens.
A grateful oasis on a hot day! Wife and I visited early in the day after a hot morning at the Zoo. Jen was so very welcoming and friendly, especially when we mentioned we were from out of town - a true ambassador for St. Louis! We had a refreshing beer, delicious Toasted Ravioli, and a really first-rate fried chicken sandwich, while Jen drew up a list of Italian restaurants on the hill for us to pick from, for dinner (see my review of Cunetto HOP). A great experience at a really fun old-style Irish bar.

My wife and I visited for the first time since shortly after the new owner took over last year. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. The previous owners had developed a creative food and drink menu, and the place just had a unique charm and a neat atmosphere that really distinguished it from their peers. It wasn’t pretentious, but it was a place you could feel comfortable ordering an off-menu cocktail. No more! Food items are being crossed out in sharpie on beat-up menus, the liquor selection appears to be shriveling down to the dive bar basics, and the new cocktail offerings are a far cry from what was being offered under the previous owners. When I inquired about the old bar manager who we liked, the bartender said he didn’t work there anymore and she made a remark about how they used to have a bunch of “fancy cocktails” and that they had bitters she didn’t even know existed. As for the food, my burger was fine I guess, but my wife ordered a chicken salad and it came out missing the chicken, and she said the Mac & Cheese was barely edible. I guess we should have known what we were in for when we saw the iconic Grieisedieck Bros. painting on the side of the building getting covered up with a Michelob Ultra advertisement.

Cool looking old bar right across from the zoo . We sat at the bar , and the bar itself was very nice . I ordered the cod plate. The cod is beer battered, which isn't my favorite. The batter was too thick, so the inside is still gummy . Not my favorite . My wife ordered the fish tacos , they were good .

Waitress recommended the House BLT. For my side I went with the fries. Food came out hot. The smoked aioli was a great option for the sandwich because of its taste. The bacon was not as thick as I thought it would be and the bacon needed to cook another minute so all pieces would be crunchy. Showed up around 7:15pm on Thursday and the place was packed. No parking lot but there’s plenty of street parking. Our server was swamped so service was a little slow at times.

Nice atmosphere if you are looking for friendly conversation, some sports on a few screens, and good food in the local tavern kind of way. They do have an upstairs space with bar and kitchen available for events. The downstairs tender was much more amiable than upstairs was though lol To each their own. Personally, I tried the popcorn shrimp which was a nice portion of not tiny shrimp (yum) with a romoulade that was a bit flat, but I like a little umph in it. I did notice the portions of other's choices were all generous and nicely presented as well. The general vibe was relaxed and positive so I will try the Philly next time 😉

Amigo Joe's Mexican Restaurant is a welcoming mexican restaurant with great food and service. The cantina has a wide menu selection with delicious Mexi-food, and the outdoor seating is perfect for enjoying a warm day in town.
Man, I dream about their habanero fried chicken. I would eat here weekly if I didn't live so far away! Otherwise they are a pretty average Mexican restaurant. Cadillac Margaritas are pretty good but the regular lime ones are meh. Chips are a little stale, salsa is meh. But that fried chicken is my favorite in STL.

I have only eaten here once and I very much enjoyed it. Fried Chicken- I had the spicy version of this and it was great. The perfect amount of spice for the dish. I was surprised at how often the fried chicken was recommended since this is a Mexican restaurant, but now I can see why. Very good.

Came for the chicken. Tried buffalo non breaded and plain breaded. Both were good, however; the plain blew the buffalo out the water 10 times over. It made you want to stand up and say WHO COOKED THIS!! 👌🏽amazing. The burrito and tacos were good as well. The shots, I tried almost all of them. I recommend the Washington Apple!

Saw this place was rated as having the "best fried chicken" in St. Louis so we had to see what's going on! Ordered the $14.99 regular fried chicken dinner that came with 4 sizeable pieces: a wing, a drumstick, a thigh, and a breast along with choice of 2 sides so I got mashed potatoes w/gravy and the corn. The fried chicken was really good with an ultra crispy skin and served freshly hot... though a smiiiiidge on the bit-too-salty side. Best in STL though??!🤔 The corn was good enough for the can it came from and the mashed potatoes were about the same. I ate them with the chicken a la KFC Famous Bowl style. IYKYK! They had margs on special for $2.75, just know they taste like $2.75 and not one penny more! Lol I would come here again to give the chicken another shot and I'd elevate my marg order to try one of their specialities.

First time here at Amigi Joe's Mexican restaurant. Overall pretty good, the chips they brought out were good quality, the salsa while a little more liquid than I like was very good. Dinner itself was tasty I had the fajita steak taco salad and my dinner partner had enchiladas Verde with chicken. Which she said was very well seasoned. Good little spot enjoyed myself and price wasn't to bad.

Very busy for a Saturday night. That didn't stop our server Frances from providing excellent service. The guacamole dip is a great way to start our meal. Taquitos Mexicana received exactly as our special order was placed. The espinacas quesadillas with steak was more than we could finish. Friendly staff made this an enjoyable experience. Definitely looking forward to returning.

We had been visiting the zoo and we knew that we needed really good food after the day we had. The atmosphere is pretty typical of a Mexican restaurant, and it was really nice. The service was incredibly friendly and our waitress was personable and kind. She made light conversation, and was really quick with refills and checking in with us to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was incredible. The salsa they bring out has these amazingly fresh flavors, and then there's a kick to it after about two seconds that leaves you craving more. I had a type of burrito that had shrimp, steak and chicken in it with onions and bell peppers. It was a dream and was covered in the most delicious white cheese sauce. My husband got a more basic dish, but he said it was incredibly flavorful and he was very satisfied. I also tried a banana margarita and it was delicious. The waitress said that they are increasing in popularity because more people are enjoying the banana margaritas. I am so glad we picked this restaurant which was both close to our hotel and the zoo that we had visited. If parallel parking is difficult or full, there is additional parking further on of the road

We want to extend a big thank you to Amigo Joe's for generously offering Creative Community a discount, allowing us to celebrate the end of the year with our friends in such a welcoming space. A special shoutout to our waitress, who was incredibly pleasant and patient as we took our time ordering—your kindness truly made the lunch even more enjoyable!

Sando Shack is a food truck that offers Japanese-style sandwiches, including sweet-and-spicy chicken and beef and chicken katsu sandwiches. The place is known for its small space and the wait time for orders, but customers appreciate the freshly made food. Recently, Sando Shack found a permanent location next to a popular bar in town. The menu also includes options like pork tonkatsu sando with regular fries, making it a unique and delicious dining experience.
Really delicious all around! The katsu chicken was fantastic and I loved their fries. Plus the taiyaki was a great sweet treat! Excited to come back and try more!
Amber C — Google review
Just WOW! I was looking for a place to eat after walking Tower Grove and this spot looked good. I was not let down. Both the pork and chicken were sweet and spicy sandos were delicious. It was all made fresh and it was hot and crispy. The fries were delicious with different seasonings. The bread for the sandos was delicious. The taiyaki was great too. This is worth a visit and the money. I'll be back.

Sando Shack in St. Louis is hands-down one of the best spots for unique and flavorful eats. Both the mushroom sando and mushroom bowl are insane, packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and incredibly satisfying. The mushroom sando has that ideal crispy-to-juicy ratio, with deep, savory umami flavors that hit every note. The mushroom bowl offers a hearty, comforting option that's just as delicious. If you're a fan of mushrooms or plant-based dishes, this place will blow your mind. Quick service, friendly staff, and food that leaves you wanting more. Put this spot on the list.

Overall, a great place for sandwiches to go. A small space, so be aware if you are coming to dine in. WAIT TIME: Came in at 2:30 on a Saturday. Ordered at the counter, took about 20 mins for food to be ready. Not too bad, but longer than we expected considering there was no one else in front of us. But again, we didn’t mind too much, considering we knew it was being made right there. FOOD: I got the sweet and spicy chicken sando with the spicy fries, my partner got the pork tonkatsu sando with regular fries. We also shared the red bean taiyaki dessert. The taiyaki mostly tasted like a waffle, but the red bean paste was a new flavor for me. It was just alright. The sandos were so tasty though! Very well spiced and the coleslaw complements them well. Both were very delicious. The fries are also excellently crispy and thick! Very yummy and filling meals. SERVICE: Ordered at counter, cashier was nice and explained what the togarashi fries were (the spicy ones). Pretty easy and helpful. AMBIANCE: Small place, only a few window stool spots, seems like more of a takeaway place. But I liked the decor! PRICE: Came out to around $20 a person. The sandos were $13-14, which wasn’t bad. The dessert was $4 which is a little pricey for what it is, but not terrible either.
Cristy M — Google review
I was recommended to try the sweet and spicy chicken sandwich. The chicken was nice and crispy but not the most flavorful. The curry seasoned fries were a nice touch. The meal does not come with a beverage and there's not many beverage options other than Japanese sodas. I'm on the fence about the return.

Sando Shack has been a favorite since they started as a pop up and now their brick-and-mortar location has all the deliciousness! they recently added rice bowls that combat the top spot with their sandos! Online Ordering and Street Parking available. MY FAVS: Sweet & Spicy Chicken Sando, Mushroom Rice Bowl

Tried these Japanese inspired chicken sandwiches and to my surprise they are soo delicious!!! I didn’t know if I would enjoy this or not but whew we! So delicious! You have to try it!
Precious W — Google review
Unique menu items at this small counter service restaurant. Japanese sandwiches or shandos are served either of grilled bread or ciabatta buns. The chicken was marinated prior to being breaded and fried. There was a pleasant heat from the dishes we sampled. Even the cucumber salad had a bit of delightful warmth to put mouthes. The counter staff was very helpful. He share that this is their first month open. I would really enjoy a bed of lettuce with their meat and cucumbers for a salad. Being a diabetic, my choices were very limited.

Soul food restaurant
If you're on the hunt for authentic Southern comfort food in St. Louis, look no further than Sweetie Pie's Upper Crust. This charming cafeteria-style eatery is a family-run gem founded by Mississippi natives Miss Robbie Montgomery and her son, Tim Norman. Known for its made-from-scratch soul food, Sweetie Pie's offers a delightful menu featuring favorites like crispy fried chicken, savory meatloaf, and delectable mac 'n' cheese.
We tried the baked chicken, fried catfish, Mac n Cheese, cabbage, fried chicken wing and peach cobbler. THE MAC & CHEESE OMG SOOO FREAKING GOOD The Catfish was 🔥🔥🔥 it surprisingly was my favorite, then the Mac. They cook their cabbage with green pepper and I didn't realize it so it wasn't a favorite. That peach cobbler with the layers of crust was so flaky and delicious and I think I tasted maybe bourbon-y type of sauce in there IDK but it was delicious. The gravy on the baked chicken was everything We were a little shocked to find out one chicken wing was $4.10 but we decided it was definitely worth it The cornbread is just that it's baked in a big pan kind of cake style and in case you're wondering if there are no whole kernels of corn in it.
Amy D — Google review
We were pleasantly surprised at how clean the establishment was. The food was kind of bland but nothing a little salt and hot sauce couldn't cure. The most important thing to me was the food wasn't heavy and greasy and the portions were just right. The staff was great and the owner actually fixed our plates and was nice enough to take photos with our party, that was cool of her. If I had a negative thing to say it would be; provide veterans with a discount on there meal. All in all awesome experience and I would recommend this soul food restaurant to others. Lastly, I see why Sweetie Pies have had the success and longevity it has (excellent service and food)!
Demitreis B — Google review
Great food, poor service. Fried chicken to make your mouth water. It was not ready when I went through the line, so I let my server know I had an order coming up. Not too much later, I noted several customers after I had chicken. I asked my server to check on my order, and I thought I had asked him to go catch the chicken, clean it and cook it in the way he looked at me. It was served hot out the grease when I finally got it after about 20 minutes of wait time. Well-seasoned baked chicken for the healthy was the second order. Sweet tea to wash it down. It became harder to wash it down as the server seemed to disappear for long periods of time. I guess one refill must be standard per visit because that is all I got and only got it when I broke the rule and got it myself. The sweet potato pie was mediocre in taste; it was better than most frozen pies but nothing special. The yams served with my meal were more impressive.
Lonnell D — Google review
I was excited to be in St. Louis and to have an opportunity to try Sweetie Pies. We tried fried chicken, baked turkey wing, dressing, macaroni and cheese , blacked eyed peas and corn bread. The prices were higher than expected but I guess it was to be expected for an infamous restaurant. I was disappointed with the long lines, lack of staff and bickering amongst staff. The staff were very nice and patiently waited on the customers. Although the lines were long the dining area was barely used. A lot of people stood in line for take out. The setup is a buffet line and the staff serves. Not enough staff meant one person at more than one station. Back to the food I tasted. The black eyed peas were sweet, the dressing lacked sage and the macaroni barely had cheese. The turkey wing was cold , over cooked and dry. I think it's a great family atmosphere/ attraction with all of the memorabilia. I also think if they had some tastings with customers to get the flavors right and have a dedicated area for to go options they will really thrive.
M D — Google review
The ladies fixing your plate are courteous and very friendly My server forgot to go get our food. He did not come back to the table for refills. The meat was good. The fried chicken tasted like it was cooked in fish grease. The mac and cheese was bland. The baked chicken was great as well as the cabbage. I came and happy I did but will not return
Jessica E — Google review
The quality of food was sub par at best. The smothered pork chop was extremely tough and we did not enjoy the mac and cheese nor dressing. The okra was really good.
Sherria K — Google review
Portion was smaller than expected, per my husband. Food temperature could have been warmer. I didn’t care for the sweet potatoes. The rest of my meal was very good, we had pork chops, smothered pork steak, both had Mac & Cheese, and he had mashed potatoes. Too full to eat my custard pie, waiting until I get back home!

Restaurant
Goody Goody Diner is a bustling, old-school spot located at 5900 Natural Bridge Ave in Wells-Goodfellow. This breakfast and brunch place has become a local favorite, known for its friendly staff and unique atmosphere. The diner offers classic favorites and has a history that adds to its charm. While some have raved about the warm welcome from the staff, others have found the food to be lacking in quality.
This was my first visit to Goody Goody Diner and I loved it! The staff was super friendly! We were greeted by a rhyming host who just oozed personality! He was truly one-of-a-kind! The bathroom was clean and the experience was one you can only get from place with a history of a kind like Goody Goody Diner. I ordered the corned beef hash and it was not good. The hash seemed to come from a can and was saturated with a lot of grease and very little flavor. However, they replaced the hash with a ham steak that was amazing! I also ordered two over-medium eggs and some grits. I have never tasted egg yolks that were creamy like these ever in my life! They must whisper sweet nothings to their chickens every night and pet them every day to get eggs like this! The back wall was covered in an ever evolving and growing scrapbook that documents the history of the diner. The whole experience was fun and I'll definitely be back!
Sharla K — Google review
This place was amazing beginning to end. Our host had some awesome lyrics, I couldn't stop smiling! So gracious!! We came to try out the Chicken and Waffles - we were looking for the best in St. Louis and heard of this place. They do NOT disappoint! It was the best chicken and waffles I've ever had. There is no place like this, and a definite must-go!!!
Sophie O — Google review
Wow! This place has every bit of a cultural staple and diner feel to it. They serve the best chicken and waffles I've ever had. The honey glaze on the fried chicken gives the perfect mix of sweet and spice. Do yourself a favor and give it a try; you won't want anything else. This place is quite busy, but it's well worth the wait!

This is the most amazing place I’ve ever eaten breakfast at from the time you walk in you are greeted by sly who is the most pleasant funny well spoken man I’ve ever met. He greats you with poetry and a warm smile every time. Then you sit down and start looking around st all the photos from a time people were simpler and just wanted a roof over there head and a great place to eat. My server was Basel who was also amazingly friendly. The food was even better if you can imagine I got the Wilbur omelette and it was to die for I highly recommend it. I will definitely come here again

Hobo Bowl and Rueben platter were very tasty! Sat at the counter to avoid the wait! An old fashioned diner experience! Fast drink service! I love the glass full of ice to keep your drink cold! Coffee was good. This is a classic American diner experience! It goes on our repeat list!

Restaurant
Chicken Scratch is a contemporary restaurant known for its delicious rotisserie chicken and sandwiches. The executive chef, Nate Hereford, was inspired by the simplicity of rotisserie-chicken restaurants in California and decided to bring that concept to St. Louis with his wife, Christine. Customers rave about the mouthwatering rotisserie chicken and killer salad with a light lemon dressing.
I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich last night for dinner, along with a side of blue cheese dressing. The spice blend on the sandwich was excellent—bold and genuinely spicy, unlike the underwhelming heat from some national chains. The house-made blue cheese dressing was also delicious and paired perfectly with the sandwich. A little expensive, but par for the course at the Foundry.
Benjamin H — Google review
Tried the crispy chicken sandwich with the signature sauce and we were not impressed. For the price it was not something that I would go out of my way to purchase again. Pretty unique sauces I’ll give them that, but all sauces are another $1 up charge. I have a feeling their speciality is the rotisserie chicken meals and not the crispy chicken sandwich so don’t count them out!
Michael M — Google review
The cashier was very nice. The cook was very nice.Everyone who worked there was very kind, but on the other hand, the food was actually raw.
Giselle H — Google review
Got the spicy chicken sandwich. I LOVED the spices and flavor of it, but the texture of the chicken was awful. It was very rubbery and ruined the sandwich. It was also pricey. The kale salad was delicious and light but you got very little for the price. Edit:I went back a second time to give it another try and this time the chicken was WAY better! Must have been an off day my first time. I bumped them up to 4 stars. If it's consistently good I'll bump them up to 5 stars. The staff were friendly.
Luigi D — Google review
the chicken sandwich i got was raw. the cooked parts of it were ok but it had a weird texture to it that i didn't like (probably just cause it was raw though). the fries were pretty good, they were very crispy and seasoned well. the buns on the sandwich didn't really taste right. it kinda tasted like day old bread. my meal was 24$ for just myself which kinda crazy for the food that was served to me. maybe i'll change my review in the future if i come back but yeah cook y'all chicken

I couldn't find a protein breakfast anywhere at the foundry, anywhere.. Not a good place for diabetics or for breakfast. So I opted for a really good coffee around the corner from chicken scratch. I order a half of Rotisserie chicken And a killer salad. Both to die 4 0 m g. So freaking good. Kill salad was crispy and fresh and has crunchy things on it with a light lemon dressing delicious. And I don't know what they use for spices on this chicken, but it is so good. Great customer service. I also ordered these scratch sauce, which is a buttermilk dill. . Yeah that's how made for sure.
Gina B — Google review
The workers are friendly and the fries were good but I couldn’t believe the sandwich I was served. It looked and tasted like the cheap frozen school lunch chicken sandwiches on a crusty dry bun. The sandwich doesn’t come with any sauce but you can buy it. The worst part of it all is the price. I spent $25 on this meal. Should have just gone to chick fil a…

I'm not sure about some of the reviews here. Look at some of my past reviews; I'm honest and I'm critical when it's needed. I had the crispy chicken sandwich this evening and it was phenomenal. Please excuse the photo as I'd already eaten some when I realized I hadn't taken a photo. The chicken was very moist, breaded lightly (but adequately) and crispy. The pickles and lettuce were a perfect complement but what brought it all together was the scratch sauce. Overall, the sandwich was delicious and I'd definitely get it again.
