Mountains
Le Pouce, aptly named for its thumb-like summit, is a popular hiking destination in Mauritius. Located in the Moka range, this alpine landform offers scenic trails and panoramic views of Port Louis, Beau-Bassin Rose-Hill, Moka village, and the small islands off the northern coast. The not-too-strenuous hike takes about half a day to complete and provides 360-degree views from the summit.
Very beautiful hike must go with proper shoes or else it can become slippery… there are 3 trails first one takes 45 min second one around 1hr 30 min …first one will have view of farms second one will have view of Port Louis which is too good
Chetan G — Google review
Hiking Le Pouce Mountain was an incredible experience! The trail offered a perfect mix of adventure and serenity, with breathtaking panoramic views from the summit. Though some parts were challenging, the journey was truly rewarding. The hike felt like a reflection of life—facing obstacles but pushing forward to reach something beautiful. A must-do for anyone seeking adventure, scenic beauty, and a touch of the extraordinary! ⛰️✨
Reshav N — Google review
An absolutely stunning trail with breathtaking scenery throughout! The hike was about 2.5km up to the peak and 2.5km down, making it a manageable yet rewarding adventure. We experienced a mix of terrains — from forest paths to rocky sections near the top — which kept it interesting and engaging. Reaching the peak was the highlight, offering panoramic views of Port Louis, the Moka range, and the northern coast. A must-do for anyone who enjoys nature, light adventure, and incredible vistas. Highly recommended!

Amazing trail with a quite technical part between shoulder and top. You'll need to climb some steep rock path but that's easily done for most people. Count 1h30 for round trip, 2h if you're more relaxed The view on the mountain peak is stunning !! A 360 view over Mauritius culminating at 812m. For people without car, I came from beau bassin using metro-metro-bus to st pierre-bus to port louis VIA bois chéri road / le pouce We waited 1h for the bus, guess we were unlucky though
FraiSaY — Google review
Really cool hike. At the end a little bit of climbing but all doable. One of the best hikes we did in mauritius
Awawa G — Google review
The climb up the mountain is not as easy as they say here. From the very beginning to the end, the road slopes upward; you cannot walk in a straight line and give up a little, you will always have to climb up. 90% of the road is large, slippery and dangerous rocks. Old people and people with small children will not be able to climb here; it will be difficult for them. I don’t recommend walking after rain, it’s life-threatening. We arrived here at 11 pm, and the night before it had rained, the stones did not have time to dry, it was very slippery and dirty, we walked very slowly, because it was very dangerous. I recommend that you sensibly assess your strengths before going there.
Ксения Л — Google review
Great hike with a quite steep section in the end. Not a problem for experienced hikers. Might be slippery at times but not a major problem. Takes about 2 hours from the parking lot to go up, take some pictures and go down again. The view is amazing!
Tap 9 — Google review
Fantastic trekking activity and magnificent view from the top. Good shoes is must have ! Regular sport ones are enough - or hiking ones. Don’t even try to go there with sandals ! Like people say here, the wet rocks are really slippery so be cautious with stepping. Dry rocks are ok. Trail is really steep so you gonna burn some calories 😀With half an hour sitting on the top it takes around 2.5-3h for not a sport guy to get there from parking lot and back.Apes seen😀Place is not crowded at all, I met only local sport guys running there. Go there- will not be disappointed!

Le Morne Brabant is a historic 1,824-ft. mountain located in Mauritius, offering a challenging yet scenic climb to its sweeping views at the top. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it holds significant cultural and historical importance as it served as a refuge for slaves in the 18th century.
Well marked out but very steep hike. Bring a lot of water, suncream, some snacks, a hat/cap. You'll turn off the main road to a dirt road, drive 1 km and find a parking area. Nothing formal. Then there is a gate. When you walk through you'll find a book on the right side where you need to sign in and out (this is the only way for them to track people hiking safely). Our total hike was close to 8kms. We went to see the look out point that veers off to the right before you reach the steep climbing point which is why it maybe took us longer. The climbing is intense, and as you get to the top it plays on your mind a bit because you go down and then back up before reaching the top. Wear shoes with good grip and take things slowly and carefully! There used to be ropes but these no longer exist. You'll be rewarded with magnificent views as you go up and at the summit, along with lots of cute little birds! The summit is a relatively small area with a cross on the top.
Michelle K — Google review
Don’t have enough words to describe the view we saw at multiple spots during our trek. Just phenomenal. We reached there at around 6 AM but couldn’t get in because it was locked and dark. The person came after 7 AM after which we started our trek. It’s a difficult trek but the beginning trail is still walkable. After the first point a guide is needed to help you climb the mountain. It involves literal wall climbing so you should be in a great health to do it. If you’re a patient or recovering then this trek is not for you. Carry some water and some bars as it takes around 2 hours to just do the easy trail and back. Start early because the sun gets harsh with time and it becomes difficult to climb. Also carry mosquito repellent. We were also able to see the underwater waterfall from the top. All the beaches and islands are clearly visible. Highly recommended.
Urvashi R — Google review
An unforgettable lifetime experience. A great, breathtaking view from the top, it was worth a hike. My suggestion for the hike: 1. start as early as possible. We started at 6 o’clock in the morning and at 7 o’clock it was almost unbearable hot. It’s a lot of climbing and the stone would get also hotter in the sun. 2. Bring a lot of water with you, at least 1 L/person. 3. I would suggest to hire a guide if you don’t have an experience in climbing. We did often a hike in the alps but I was so afraid that I wouldn’t survive this hike. We were lucky that we accidentally mixed up with the guided group and we could follow them, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to get to the top.

Nice but not very easy trip for everyone who are not affraid of climbing without equipment. You can do it. If not, there are lots of view poinst when you need not to climb. Open from 7-16. Last enterance 14:30
Tomáš B — Google review
Easy part 1 and more challenging part 2. The day we went wad way too crowded. Many climbed to the summit and you could just tell from their face how scared they were to go down w.out the right shoes or equipment. 3 days after we climbed up, we didnt go to the peak as the last climbed was jammed with ppl of all sorts of levels, we heared of the tragic accident of a young man. Just a reminder that climbing this mountain comes with high risk. Please avoid when too crowded on the last bit.
Ntht N — Google review
Hike was absolutely worth it! View is stunning! It is a little difficult though but not as difficult as it might seem. Actually it is very doable if you are in a pretty much good shape. You for sure don't need to be an expert hiker or athlete to do it. And you do not need a guide! At the beginning we thought we will hike till just the climbing sign, but then we continued a bit by a bit and reached the top! Mind you, we (me and my husband) are not expert hikers nor in extreme good shape. You just need a good hiking shoes or shoes with a good grip as it could be a bit slippery. It is not dangerous at all if you watch your steps carefully. Also the way down looks way more difficult than it actually is. Just go slowly and catch to anything near you to keep your balance (tree, rock...). There was no "obvious trail", especially at the top, you climb wherever it is possible, or follow the other people. Don't be scared of the word "climbing" as we were also scared to do it especially that it was our first time "climbing a mountain". No tools or anything needed. If you hesitate to continue the hike, the view from the point just before the climbing is also spectacular!! Walk a little bit toward the trees and you will see pretty much similar view as the top. Even if you continue the hike, you will see many spots on your way up, with the exact same view as the summit. You don't need to continue to the top if your goal is just the view and good photos. Weather is no joke when warm, take plenty of water with you. Hike was in total around 3,5hours (reaching the top, with many stops for photos). Enjoy the hike 😊
Sally K — Google review
Le Morne Brabant is an unforgettable hiking experience. The trail up to the top is quite challenging but absolutely rewarding. The scenery is just stunning, with lush greenery and that gorgeous blue ocean stretching out below. As you get closer to the summit, the trail becomes steeper and more rugged, requiring a bit of climbing and focus. Reaching the cross  at the top feels like a true achievement, offering a stunning 360-degree view of Mauritius coastline and surrounding landscape. If you're up for an adventure in Mauritius, this hike is a must.
Shonali S — Google review
Loved this hike! The first half of the hike is easy but the second half involves steep rock climbing using hands and feet, not for the weak. Takes around 2 hours to get to the very top where the cross is. Getting down is faster but still a must to take your time. The views are stunning and well worth the climb.

Waterfalls
Tamarind Falls, also known as Tamarin Falls or Seven Falls, is a stunning eco-destination in Mauritius. The series of seven waterfalls on Riviere Tamarin offers breathtaking views of Le Morne Mountain and the surrounding lush landscape. Hiking to the falls provides an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the area and the Black River Gorges National Park.
Hiked falls 4-1 (reverse order) with our wonderful guide: ‘Hiking with Ashwin’ - I recommend you look him up on Facebook and prearrange! Amazing experience with beautiful scenery. Plenty of photo opportunities and spots to swim. Have to be reasonably fit and prepared for some ‘bush bashing’ through the jungle as we say in Australia.
B P — Google review
Some amazing scenery of the waterfalls and options for a dip in the pools if you're brave enough. The walk down and backup is not for the faint hearted especially in the wet when we went. A level of fitness, sensible footwear and coordination is needed
Wayne G — Google review
Beautiful hike. We did the whole loop of 7 waterfalls and it was quite a challenge. Especially the last climb up was a killer. Make sure to take at least 3 liters of water if you are a couple. Otherwise you might have a heartaches like I had 😅
Tomáš H — Google review
Amazing waterfalls but very challenging trails, not for beginners and proper footwear is a must. Don't wear average trainers. You will also get wet feet as you have to cross the river/waterfall. Parking is weird, just find a lay by and park there, no official parking and you need to walk through a sugar cane plantation to find the trail. We used Komoot to follow the route and I would not try it without a route app.
Suzy G — Google review
*Tamarind falls hiking trail start - is a correct Google map point to start You will see a Hindu temple as you arrive. Parking on the left side next to the sugar cane fields on the right. Do not walk straight past the Hindu temple - its a tamarind restaurant. You need to walk right opposite of the temple, to the right side on a little field road in to the sugar cane fields. You will be greeted or harassed by the "guides", from our experiences, they were tad awful, unhelpful and told us wrong information. As you walk into the sugarcane fields, you will soon meet the first fall. Walk a bit further then the second fall (from the drone shot) We didnt trek further from this point.
Bonnie — Google review
This is a must do in Mauritius. The seven waterfalls are great. Book a guided hike as it is important.
Life S — Google review
Hike is easy to moderate, great landscape, amazing views! Totally worth a visit
Sina K — Google review
The hike is a real recommendation if you are in Mauritius. We did the full tour without a guide. We used Komoot for orientation. Towards the end it became more difficult to find your way around. But the path is marked with blue or red dots and scarves. You should definitely wear sturdy shoes. Otherwise it will be really difficult. The slopes are very steep and the rock is also very slippery. We saw people wearing Birkenstocks. We don't know how they made it back alive. Otherwise it was the most impressive and beautiful hike we did in Mauritius. Many only get to the 5/6 waterfall and then turn around. If you do the full tour you will definitely have your time and can also swim in peace at one of the waterfalls.

Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire, the highest mountain in Mauritius, offers a medium-difficulty 7km hike with stunning views of the southwestern peninsula. The well-maintained trail can become muddy after rain but rewards hikers with lush vegetation and scenic vistas of Le Morne Brabant and its surrounding waters. The summit provides a beautiful view of the west coast and nearby landmarks like Tourelle de Tamarin.
Went to the summit 2 months ago from Plaine Champagne. It was in winter, but fortunately had a sunny weather. I found the track technical since I am a beginner trailer and going uphill was not that easy. I did wear trail shoes that day, and it was slippery and humid in some places. My shoes helped me a lot. The whole trail from Plaine Champagne and back took me nearly 2 hours.

Nice hiking area. The trail start at B103 plain champagne road. At some area, it is slippery. On the summit you will get a nice view of le morne brabant, tourelle de tamarin and the west coast
Desire Q — Google review
I can't leave an awesome hike like this a bad review. It was amazing! HOWEVER ... This is NOT an easy trail. A big Mauritian hiking website claims this is an easy trail. That is absurd. We took our son on this trail today. We adopted him last year and we're trying to share our love of hiking. We've hiked all over the world; my wife and I love difficult trails. But today we were constantly going up and down steep inclines. It was raining nonstop, so we were walking in ankle-deep mud the whole time. The route MIGHT be 4 miles, but it's a hard four miles and will take you a few hours. The last 20 minutes before you reach the summit you'll be going up sheer vertical inclines, using a rope to pull yourself to the top. Our son fell and injured himself several times. He's a tough futball player (not a weakling), but because of this experience I doubt we'll be able to bring him on a hike again anytime soon. He says he hates hiking now, and all we wanted to do was share this with him. Come prepared. Bring rain gear (it rained all day even though the weather forecast said it wouldn't). Bring good shoes. We saw pieces of shoes ALL OVER the trail—a testament to how rocky the path is the whole way!
Marshall J — Google review
Beautiful hike through the forest cover & a cold misty winter morning. During my hike through the trail it had rained the night before & everything was really muddy & slippery, still with steady steps & thankfully shoes with a good grip, me & my friend were able to get though the trail comfortably. The last part to reach the top of the peak is a bit difficult, although lined with ropes. Due to the poor weather conditions, the last part of the climb wasn't that easy for me, had to be careful to find my footing. The descend was even harder, as there was no grip on the ropes & most people had to sit & go through it. Surprisingly rest of the descend was quite comfortable but long. Talking about the view, its like a panaromic view of the entire southern region, but can only be enjoyed if its less cloudy. All in all it's a must visit, definitely worth the weekend.
Nishant G — Google review
Easy to climb, more or less walking through the pathway along side forest, the last part is a bit difficulty overcome by ropes provided.

Corps de Garde is a 720-meter-high volcanic peak located between Black River and Plaine Williams. It offers sweeping vistas from its summit and has a marked trail for hikers to explore. The mountain has a historical backdrop, as it is believed that escaped slaves sought refuge in its dense forests and rocky terrain. The hike is not overly technical but can be tiring, especially on hot days.
Go up once every week or every two weeks in the afternoon since the end of confinement. It is always a pleasure to climb it. When going down, it is recommended to always bring a torch or headlight for those who go up after 5pm.
Danie N — Google review
really cool hike. the last part doesn't seem to be explored as the first half of the journey but worth the view if you finish the hike.
Alex C — Google review
Such a nice mountain to hike but people are just messing around,so much plastic pollution and waste up there. Please stop polluting such beautiful places, keep your rubbish up to your way back home. There's its also abundant in species richness, respect nature.
Dominique B — Google review
If you love feeling like you're in nature, cut off from the city and life, while actually being in the city, then Corps de Garde can be the place for you to be...
Steph H — Google review
It's one of the best view on the island 😀
Adam P — Google review
This majestical mountain has its own characteristics. it has a story sad, tragic and poignant depicting the daily struggle of maroons who ran away from their cruel masters and sought refuge in the Rocky Mountains and the forests nearby. These maroons sometimes massacred and looted the farmers and farms with incredible savagery and burnt the fields and hamlets to ashes. They even killed the colonisers they happened to come across. The Government took action by erecting a military post in that part. A man hunt was organised from there and hence the name Corps de Garde was given to the mountain. #Damien Allet Photo

Lovely view of the town from the top.
RASH R — Google review
Not an easy hike at all. Though not that difficult. It is more on the tiring side than technical. And be careful not to try to climb this mountain on a hot day or you'll be in for a treat. But for real, the views there are amazing, being so close to society and the city of Rose Hill.

Black River Gorges National Park is the largest and most impressive national park in Mauritius, covering 67.54 square kilometers of lush native forest and rolling hills. The park offers two information centers, picnic areas, and an extensive network of 60 kilometers of hiking trails. It is home to nine endemic bird species and abundant flora and fauna, making it a paradise for nature enthusiasts.
Peaceful and beautiful walk in nature. We found goyave de chine, red pepper and prune that were delicious to eat. I didn’t see too much litter on the floor which is a good sign that people respect the environment. The view from the top is beautiful. You’ll have a very nice hike

What an incredible place. The scale of the gorge takes your breath away, especially for a small island. The vista is incredible, which also includes waterfalls. There is a path to the large viewing point, and so you don't need to wear boots. There is also a trail to go on. Facilities include carpark, stalls selling drinks and souvenirs, and toilets.

A lovely natural spot. We walked from the Petrin entrance following the Machabees forest loop which took around 2.5hrs. Worth a visit if you have time, but personally we preferred the Tamarind Falls hike where you can swim and enjoy a waterfall massage.

This place is amazing! It's one of the best spots to visit in Mauritius. The view is incredible. When you look out over the gorge, you see so much green forest and the tall, beautiful Chamarel Waterfall dropping down. Further on, an amazing mountain view! It really takes your breath away, You would be amazed about how beautiful it can be. It's a very peaceful and beautiful place. I highly recommend it to everyone! You'd love this place.

We love taking walks here. I suggest comfortable shoes with thick soles as often the rocks along the trail are uncovered. Be sure to bring your bug spray and then, enjoy your walk. There's a detailed sign giving directions for your preferred level of difficulty. There are places to have a meal near the visitors center. All-in-all, a great place to spend an afternoon.

You have to do the Black River Peak Trail. Maybe not in Summer or Flip Flops. Last part might kill you. But the 360 degree view is something.

Underwhelming. Not many views. Muddy slippery trails. Lake surrounded by biting flies. Some trails closed. Minimal view points. Quite a bit of litter along the trails. Free parking though and plenty of wardens.

La Vallée de Ferney is a 200-hectare nature reserve and wildlife sanctuary in Ferney, Mauritius. It was recently saved from developers and is home to rare and endangered endemic species. The reserve offers well-marked trails for hiking and biking, with the option of guided walks that provide valuable insights into the area's nature, history, and wildlife. Visitors can explore the 400-year-old forest which serves as an important habitat for the endangered Mauritius kestrel.
Beautiful landscape, clear and well marked tracks of different length and difficulty. The staff at the information Center (here you buy the ticket) was friendly and very helpful. Best hike of my Mauritius vacation!

I did the 5km circuit and it’s so beautiful and peaceful. Easy walk. But very hot. Have your hat, sunscreen and water. For the price you might want to do the longer hikes but they are more difficult
Liliya R — Google review
Very nice hiking area (although with an entrance fee) that is kept really clean (regarding trash) and authentic (regarding wilderness). We did the medium yellow hiking tour and the 3-4 hours estimation was correct. Because of the rain the night ago, the path was quite muddy and slippery so hiking boots are highly recommended. The path was mainly a path that could also be driven by pickups, we would have preferred some single tracks though the forest itself as well. Also the view in the valley was really nice, I cannot understand people that only do the easy path with no elevation and are surprised that you have no mountain viewpoint...
Helge S — Google review
It was a nice experience and we enjoyed the 13km hike with my husband. The views, despite the cloudy weather, were breathtaking. Noteworthy, some drain rails were very rusty and old, and you could easily have foot stucked inside if you're not careful. Furthermore, it was sad to see that some visitors left their used beer cans and whatnot in the nature. Finally, on the last part of the hike, there was a no entry board, despite arrows pointing that it was the correct direction, which was confusing.
Sophie H — Google review
Really beautiful hike surrounded by lush forest, with a constant soundtrack of birds chirping. Just don’t expect stunning views of the lagoon; it’s more about feeling immersed in the valley, where you can pass the giant tortoises and spot deer if you’re lucky. We did the yellow route and then switched over to the red to finish earlier—something their official map doesn’t indicate is possible but is clearly marked (and shown on AllTrails), which made the whole thing 3 hours, a perfect length for us to do between breakfast and lunch.
Charlie M — Google review
We are a family of nature nerds who recently enjoyed a fun and informative guided tour at La Vallee de Ferney. Our guide Olivier was friendly, happy to answer any questions we had and taught us a lot about the endemic vegetation in the area. The bumpy transfer in the Landcruiser was a highlight for the kids and the short loop (2-3km) on a nature trail through endemic forest was pleasant and an easy gradient. We were lucky enough to see a Mauritian Kestrel which was on my bucket list - so thank you! We will definitely be back to do the 13km trail next time. The scenery is beautiful and we loved the conservation efforts being made at this nature reserve.
Melanie P — Google review
tourist trap. this place is not worth visiting and spending money. entry costs 200 rupees. About 60% of the way you walk through reed fields. The question is, why pay to walk through a cane field? There are only two beautiful places. the rest of the time you just walk through some thickets. The first part of the road consists of huge stones, if you trip over them you can fall and break your legs. the second part of the road is dirt. at some point the trail even goes through a river!!! and you need to cross this river on your own with your feet, or go back after going halfway. As a result, all the way you think about how not to trip over stones or step knee-deep in mud. impossible to relax. In general, I don't recommend going here

Lion Mountain, located in the southeast of the island, offers a moderate hike with a few rocky sections to climb. The trailhead is near Vieux Grand Port Police Station and provides two tracks up the summit, allowing hikers to create a loop. The highest point reaches 490m (1,607ft) and rewards hikers with tremendous views of the southeast coast. The mountain's unmistakable sphinx-like profile dominates the area.
A seated shaped lion is what gives the name to this mountain. The trail is difficult only in the first part (starting from the pomice station of Grand Port Vieux), becouse you need to use not only legs but arms as well. The effort is compensated by a wonderful view of the see with its barrier reef. The rest of the trail becomes very easy while getting off the mountain.

It was a good experience. Challenging hike. A little slippery because of the dry leaves, advice to put some good shoes, protective clothes because of mosquitoes..but the view and satisfaction you did it is totally worth it!

Great place for hiking. The east path has the best views. Best view is the the flag viewpoint. View at the summit it blocked by trees. It’s not a difficult hike. Some parts you will have to use your hands to climb.

Pieter Both is the most iconic mountain in Mauritius, known for its jagged peak and surrounded by picturesque countryside. It is a popular destination for nature lovers, offering hiking trails and climbing routes to the summit. The mountain's unique structure makes it a sought-after challenge for hikers and climbers alike. However, venturing alone is not recommended due to the risk of getting lost, so it's advisable to have a certified guide from reputable companies like Motrek Adventure or Keep The Pace crew.
Great hike. Not for the fainted hearts though. I used La ventures as a guide and Lavish was an excellent guide. The first part is straight up which is a bit hard as it's steep. Then we go around a bit and then next, securing yourself with ropes is needed. The last part is pure climbing. The guide helps you if you want to make it easier but you will need to pull yourself up along the way and for the top part (the head). Definitely aims for a sunny day after a few dry days as coming down on wet rocks (they are not small and you sometimes don't have much to hold yourself on) can be quite slippery and dangerous. My 13 year old son may be able to do it but he's super sporty. We tool 1h04 mins to ascend, stayed a bit alone up there and cam back down. Total time was about 3h30.

We were lucky arriving at the La Laura football parking lot and meeting an Alpinist who hiked up with his 2 daughters, else we would have struggled to find the path as everything is atm overgrown and lush after weeks of rainfalls. The hike is steep and challenging. You def need some stamina to go up but also we tried to keep up with our guide. Towards the end of the forest, existing ropes are there to help the climb but quite a lot of water came down, as we didnt wear the right shoes, we called it for a day. Our encounter got all the way up to the peak but had their equipment for the boulder. The video they shared, def was the right call to not go beyond when it didnt feel safe.

Best hike in Mauritius! If you’re a beginner or intermediate, get a guide! The way up is challenging and requires climbing gear like ropes but it’s worth it! We were guided by the amazing Jah (@Jah_is_a_loot) who got us safe and pumped all the way up and down! Also, make sure to check weather conditions before. We found fog and rain which made the experience adventurous but more complicated.

Unbelievable! I hiked a lot, but Pieter Both can't compere to anything else, it's just an other level! I don't recommend to do it without guide, it's very dangerous. We done the shoulder, maybe next time we finish it :) It's not easy from the begging but from the canyon it's hard, and I mean really hard. But the view are worthy it!

Trail to this monumental mountain starts at the end of Creve Coeur, or near the Viewpoint of Malenga. MUST have serious grip on shoes!! Getting to top needs a guide with mountaineering experience. Unless you are in top shape and free of vertigo. Do not try final ascent alone!

Unique mountain structure. It was one of my life goal too climb to the summit. Awesome views and great hike overall. If you don't know the path, please don't venture alone as you can easily get lost better have a guide. I would suggest Motrek Adventure and Keep The Pace crew who have certified guides. Also note that the mountain has eroded a lot and better have all necessary precaution to climb like helmet, harness, rope etc. Overall the hike really test your mental and physical strength. Up till the shoulder its quite demanding but shoulder to the head its better you have climbing equipment unless you are a free solo professional climber. Some pictures below.... And credit to the participants and Keep The Pace Team for the pictures and especially the drones pictures. Thanks to Freddy, Nicolas, Julio, Anooj, Tima, Laura and not the least Roobah for the awesome. Moments.

The most intense and difficult mountain in Mauritius. There are 2 parts: the shoulder and head. There is no need for rope for the shoulder, however to climb to the summit , it is compulsory. Better to hike when it is sunny and bring a lot of water

Trois Mamelles, located near Vacoas-Phoenix, Plaines Wilhems in Mauritius, is a stunning mountain with three distinct peaks. The hike features some steep sections where hikers will need to climb rocks using their hands. Navigating through sugarcane fields to find the trailhead can be a bit challenging.
Nice hike on the middle one of the three peaks. First ascend is about 200 m to the ridge. From there another 100 over the ridge to the top. At one point it is a bit tricky along a rocky wall. Amazing view from up there.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ La Nicollière Reservoir is a hidden gem in Mauritius! We visited in February during summer, and despite the heat, there was a refreshing cool breeze that made the experience so pleasant. The greenery and fresh air create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere—perfect for unwinding and enjoying nature. There are plenty of spots to sit, breathe in the fresh air, and just take in the beauty of the surroundings. If you’re looking for a quiet and scenic place to escape the hustle and bustle, this is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended for nature lovers!

The Black River Peak Hiking Trail Head is located in the Black River Gorges National Park, offering a chance to see wildlife such as macaque monkeys and the rare Paille-en-queue bird. It is the highest peak in Mauritius and relatively easy to climb, with parking available near the Gorges Viewpoint. The trail can be muddy after rain but offers a decent hike with inclines and declines at appropriate intervals.
It's a wet trail with hardly any sunlight. The hike up took around 1 hour and 10 minutes at an medium pace. Amazing views from bench 828
Nolan N — Google review
On a dry day, it’s a moderate hike which is mostly shady with loads of beautiful tree coverage. A lovely trail with loads of uphills and downhills and holding on to trees for balance. This really should be better maintained and moderated. It could get more dangerous as the years pass without maintenance. Would not recommend to hike even a few days after the rains, very muddy and slippery - not enough time to dry. People have pulled trees apart to create an easier trail, to the detriment of nature. There needs to be better maintenance. Especially for the highest mountain in Mauritius. Mauritius, Take note of the trails in Yakusugiland in Yakushima, Japan.
ZA M — Google review
Seemed like a long hike. Rather easy and well worn path but it can get really muddy and slippery after rainfall, making it harder to hike. Trail goes up and down continuously at first (a reason why you walk a lot but don't gain as much in altitude). Be sure to bring additional clothes and footwear just in case. Parking's available at the Gorges Viewpoint along with toilets. Last part with the ropes available to reach the summit can be challenging to some (especially after rainfall as you might just slip off if you're not properly stabilized). But the feeling of being at the highest point within Mauritius makes it all worth it.
Azhar — Google review
The highest peak in Mauritius and at the same time probably the easiest to climb. If you can't find a parking right at the entrance (which bears not a lot of space for parking) just go on about 300m inlands along the road to the Gorges Viewpoint. Here is enough parking available. As said the trail is quite easy, only when it rained or has rained a lot it can be very deep and muddy. Be prepared to dive your feet ankle deep or bit more in the mud. In about 1.5 hrs you can be on the peak. Only the end of the trail up to the peak is to be done on all fours and can be, owing to the loose soil, a bit slippery. But the view is amazing. Between April and July you might find some guavas along the way, a nice vitamin reward. Also bringing along an ice cold Blue Marlin is an amazing reward after the hike. If you like to have it more difficult and want to go the whole nine yards (828m), then start from the bottom of the valley in the Gorges (drive to the Visitor Center parking down in the valley). Check on wikilogs for a route because there are no signs put up for this route. I saw a route which went further than the peak along the Black River Ridge Trail down to Cascavelle. Maybe you can tell your driver to wait there if you want to conquer it. But be prepared for a hard trail.
Mario W — Google review
Medium difficult walk through the shaded fauna. On your way you can't see nothing around but the view from the top is amazing. Be careful at the last 50 meters which are steep and partly slippery. Some ropes help to handle it. You should not go up there if it's wet or raining. From Gorges Viewpoint we measured 4 km one way, 1h 45m up and 1h 30m down. Don't start to late, it might become cloudy in the afternoon (end of May).
Jö M — Google review
Great hike. Undulating with a very steep walk/climb to the summit. There are ropes to help you get up at the end but the view makes it all worth while.
Christian D — Google review
Well maintained hiking trail with path markings. Beautiful nature's view at the top for all the hard work you've done to reach the peak as a reward.
Manojkumar G — Google review
Decent trail breaks up incline decline at the right moments. I didn’t intend to complete the full trail as the objective was to get some good cardio and previous reviews indicated muddy trails. We took the risk decided to go as far as we wanted and if it were muddy we would turn around. Trail was NOT muddy. We went in 40 minutes much more hard core then when we turned around. All in all great trail, it was a good work out. I believe to complete the trail is about 1 hour 30 minutes.

Ebony Forest Reserve Chamarel is a remarkable conservation initiative in Mauritius, aiming to recreate the island's indigenous native forest that existed 250 years ago. Covering 45 hectares, this reserve offers 7km of hiking trails, raised walkways into the mid-canopy, and safari jeep tours. The estate has planted 110,000 indigenous trees and is home to nine endemic bird species including the pink pigeon and echo parakeet.
This place is quiet, peaceful, and well-maintained. Everything is natural and preserved beautifully. The environment is fresh and calming — a perfect escape into nature. The tourist guides were very friendly and knowledgeable, explaining everything with passion. I really enjoyed the walk through the forest and spotting some rare and uncommon birds. The 3D show was a highlight — it gave a fascinating insight into Mauritian culture, nature, and history. The viewpoints also offer stunning views of the island. Highly recommended for nature lovers and anyone looking to experience the real beauty of Mauritius.

The Ebony Forest Reserve was a great experience during our stay on Mauritius. You get to hike on your own in beautiful forest and get a guide that walks you through a section of the track and explains the efforts to restore both endemic and native species. We also saw free ranging tortoises and quite a few birds. It also has a small museum that explains the history of Mauritius and that of birds like the Dodo and the namesake ebony trees. Well worth a visit (we stayed for over 3 hours)!

I had the chance to visit the Ebony Forest in Chamarel, Mauritius, and it was a wonderful experience. The reserve is beautifully maintained, offering a mix of scenic walking trails, viewpoints, and a chance to learn about the island’s unique biodiversity. The highlight for me was the walk through the restored native forest, where you can see giant tortoises and rare bird species. The viewpoints overlooking Le Morne and the coastline are breathtaking, and the skywalk gives a unique perspective of the forest canopy. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, always ready to share interesting facts about conservation and local history. It’s not a very long visit, but it’s definitely worth it if you enjoy nature, quiet surroundings, and eco-friendly activities. Overall, a satisfying experience that combines relaxation, education, and beautiful views. 🌿🐢🌍✨ #EbonyForest #MauritiusTravel #Chamarel #NatureLovers #EcoTourism #MauritiusNature #TravelMauritius #Conservation #HiddenGem #IslandParadise

Did the Love Tree Tour and it was Fantastic! Jean was a great guide, was really knowledgeable and friendly. We saw Geckos, birds and Tortoises up close! So a tour so animals can be pointed out for you. Highly recommend to experience the forest without a strenuous hike, easy for kids and older people. The open jeep up the mountain was really comfy and fun, and the views at sublime point were amazing! Facilities were new with nice clean toilets, gift shop for souvenirs and snacks, not a place for lunch so go to Chamarel Cafe for that. Great to support the conservation effort for Mauritius

Nestled within the Black River Gorges National Park, Cascade 500 Pieds is a hidden gem standing at an impressive height of 500 feet. While not as popular as other waterfalls in the area, this means visitors can relish the tranquility and unspoiled beauty without crowds. The 1.8-mile hike to reach this natural wonder offers stunning vistas and lush surroundings.
Beautiful trail but very, very challenging terrain especially after rain - the trail is very steep, rocky and or muddy at certain areas. For one of the descends (leading to a crossing across the river) I'd even reccomend bringing a rope just in case. It drops down about 5 meters almost vertically with only minimal steps carved into the mud. Nonetheless - the view is spectacular

Very cool to get to the top of this waterfall. We went with our 3yo daughter and the way down was very tough and slippery. In normal condition it is probably a 45m hike in both directions with 150m elevation drop on a moderate difficulty trail. It can be very muddy and slippery.

Nice trail trought the forest. You must be aware before raining - there are lot of rocks and mud, so it can be really dangerous and slippery. Wear proper hike shoes! (no flip-flops, as I saw on most people) 🫢😁 But, the view is worth it!

The trail is short (oneway takes 35 mins from Alexandra waterfall centre) but really difficult specially the second half of trail. Sure not for kids and short people. The stones and roots are very slippery. Put on track shoes! You have to go accross the river many times and path is muddy. But ..in the end you will see wonderful view.

Incredible place. First part to the top of the waterfall is quite easy with some very nice view point. There are some water crossing which add to the experience. The second part to the botton is where its gets tricky and more dangerous. It goes down very steep descent very to will have to use your hands to get down in some place.Very slippery during when wet. if you are an experience hiker you can go down to the waterfall without a guide, but i would recommend taking a guide. There is a part where you have to walk on the edge of a cliff using only roots as footholds. Don`t attempt this hike during rainy season as the river will rise you may be stuck there for a while

Breathtaking spot. One of the highlights of my Mauritius trip. Landscape views are sensational, and seeing the cascading waterfalls from above is exhilarating. Amazing spot to visit, bring a picnic. Pro tip: you can make it down to the waterfalls below if you take the trail down, across the flowing water at the cliff up the rocks you will find the path with a t shirt hanging from the tree. I’ve read it is a dangerous path down, so perhaps watch a YouTube walkthrough first. Even without going down to the bottom for a swim it is a great spot to visit.

Lion Mountain in Mauritius is a challenging climb, reaching 590 meters above sea level. The trail is not well-marked and involves scrambling, making it suitable for experienced hikers. The route is indicated with red marks, but good shoes are essential due to slippery paths. Hikers should bring water and mosquito spray. While the view from the top is stunning, some suggest that the peak needs clearing for a better panoramic view.
Nice hike but difficult (with technical parts close to rock climbing). Bring enough water and mosquito repellent. Tough hike (harder than top on Le Morne in my opinion) but with nice views. I did the hike only to the eastern viewpoint and my girlfriend to the previous one with already some nice view (same way back). Use Maps.me if you want to follow the path (see picture) or the path is very well indicated with red marks (you can't go wrong if you stick to them).

We trek this mountain on 21 june'24. So just make sure u get dropped or park ur vehicles around grandport police station. We wasted half an hour coz of getting dropped at the wrong spot and to walk till the police station. Start from left of police station. Once u've crossed a bunch of houses make sure u cross that small bridge like structure right there and start from the right most pathway. And by writing this I emphasize MAKE SURE coz we went straight inside the sugarcane fields and wasted another 45min to 1hr there due to lack of any signboard and improper guidance. Once u cross a certain amount of area u'll see some steep stairs and that my fellow this suggests the start of it. The whole path has red paint or flags so again make sure u follow them and as soon as u realise there is no red paint u need to go back and follow it again. The trek wasn't very hard just that we wasted a lot of energy and time on the wrong routes. As u start reaching heights u'll see marvellous views devouring ur mind. Do remain hydrated, keep something to eat especially glucose and can keep some first aid handy. Choose sunny days and don't slip from dampen areas. Got some nice pictures and this trek will remain in my memory forever. Thanks.

A nice but challenging hike with some climbing elements. The route is indicated and you will find red marks everywhere you need to pass and even where to put your feet or hands. Thanks to Robert though, it really help us to lead us through! Good shoes are absolutely necessary. You should also bring enough water and mosquito spray. I would not recommend this hike for people who are not in a good health condition or not that good at fitness.

Because I couldn't find any information in advance in maps, I would like to share my impressions: >The View is absolutely worth it (best Viewpoint is not on top but some meters below) > You dont need a guide, the trail is marked with red points on rocks and trees > All kinds of stuff flying around, mostly small flies, but use mosquito repellent > 1,5-2h walking up > There are slippery paths after rain, please take care of yourself! > You can make a whole tour (See picture), but I would recommend to start on the east side and use the West only for climbing down (it's rough mointain cliffs there and a lot of mosquitos, so it's more fun when you are on your way back, also wouldn't recommend this side during rain, the east ist far safer when wet) If you are not really feeling the need of an additional challenge, just go up and down in the east, it has the better view anyway

Lion Mountain, also known as Le Morne Brabant, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on the southwestern tip of Mauritius. It is a stunning geological formation that rises 556 meters above sea level and is one of the island's most recognizable landmarks. The mountain's unique shape and geological features have made it a popular destination for hikers, climbers, and nature enthusiasts. The hiking trail to the summit is challenging, but the breathtaking views from the top are well worth the effort. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding ocean and mountains, as well as the lush forests and rolling hills that make up the landscape of Mauritius. But Lion Mountain is more than just a scenic destination. It is also a site of historical significance, particularly in regards to the island's history of slavery. The mountain was once used as a refuge for runaway slaves, who would seek shelter in the mountain's caves and crevices. Today, visitors can explore the many historical sites and landmarks in the area, including the Slave Route Monument, which pays tribute to the island's history of slavery. Lion Mountain is also home to a rich and diverse array of flora and fauna, including rare and endangered species. Visitors can take a guided tour of the mountain to learn more about its ecological importance and the efforts being made to protect and preserve its unique ecosystem. Overall, Lion Mountain is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Mauritius, particularly for those interested in nature, history, and culture. Its stunning natural beauty, historical significance, and ecological importance make it an unforgettable experience for anyone who visits.

Le Pouce Mountain Peak is located in the central region of Mauritius and is the third tallest mountain on the island, standing at 812 meters. Its name, which means "The Thumb" in French, comes from its thumb-like shape. The hike to the summit offers a relatively easy trek with a rewarding 360-degree view of the entire island. While it starts off as an easy hike from Moka carpark, it becomes slightly more challenging towards the summit, requiring some scrambling.
This is one of the most picturesque treks on the island with an almost 360 view near and at the top. This trek is somewhere between moderate and easy at the beginning (the lift is not small). However, there is a lot of climbing needed at the end of it if you wish to get to the Le Pouce Mountain Peak itself. The trek becomes very slippery and muddy after the rain, so one should be careful. Mind that the upper you go, the windier it gets. And it can be quite cold at the top because of the wind - I recommend having something you can put on. There are places where the trek is very narrow and there are also parts where you'll be getting through the bushes. But the view makes it up for all the challenges. The last part of the trek is basically climbing. We've seen some people dealing with it easily, when others not even starting. It is challenging indeed and there will definitely be a rush of adrenaline because of the height. But no matter whether you decide to climb to the peak or not - you'll be enjoying the views anyways. This hike takes around 4 hours both ways (in a muddy condition) - from the car park to the peak and back. So probably it won't take that long when it's not slippery.

A nice hike! It took us about 50 minutes from the parking lot to the top of the mountain though I have to admit that we walked a little fast. I can´t recommend hiking here on rainy days since the path upwards is covered with stones and rocks which get very slippery once covered with moisture. The way up the mountain can mostly be walked though you have to scramble a bit during the last part of the ascent. Make sure to bring solid footware and enjoy!!

Great trek, tough after rains. Be ready to dirty your shoes, back and pants. Don't carry too heavy a load. Really fun time with a partner or family, don't go alone! The trek took about 4 hours (Le Pouce Classic - Green color) Give me a like if this helped.
Anish M — Google review
Fairly moderate trekking with clearly marked trails. The last stretch leading to the peak was a bit challenging due to strong winds and rains. I would recommend wearing trekking shoes with a good grip if you are trekking in the rains. Lives upto the adage - Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations
Surajit M — Google review
The trek is relatively easy, the end is a bit steep but doable. We started in St. Pierre and it took about 1.5hrs to climb up (there's lots to see, nice views in all directions). Some people are just selfish and leave their garbage behind :( cans, plastic bottles and the like ). Shame on them!!!

Black River Gorge is the only national park in Mauritius, offering captivating views of the forested mountain landscape from various viewpoints. The Macchabee viewpoint, located along the 10km long Macchabee trail, provides far-reaching views and opportunities to spot white-tailed tropicbirds and rare Mauritian pink pigeons. The park's dense forest is home to native flora and fauna, including endangered bird species like the Mauritius kestrel and pink pigeon.
We were taken to this stunning beauty stop as part of our guided tour day ( just us and guide in an air conditioned modern taxi, well worth the investment ). The views are magnificent with waterfall, stunning vistas, graceful birds soaring on the heatwaves. Its free to visit, you can feed the Macaque Monkeys that come out from the forest and also pick up some great little craft items and gifts from the street sellers there. Much cheaper than hotel and shops!! A must see/stop if you want to discover more of the beauty this wonderful island has to offer. Remember, there is so much more to see in this National Park.

Tourelle du Tamarin offers a challenging 2.5-hour hike with steep terrain and ropes for assistance. The path provides stunning views of the west/southwest coast, Black River Gorges, Le Morne Brabant, rivers, beaches, residential areas, and other peaks. It is recommended to wear sturdy hiking shoes due to slippery sandy areas along the way. The top features multiple viewpoints making it an ideal spot for a sunrise or sunset hike.
A challenging, beautiful hike up to a magnificent viewpoint. The path has dry sandy areas here and there that very easily cause a slip, so good shoes are a must. There are also ropes to assist with the climb and descent, but you must have a strong upper body to hold your weight. The top has multiple viewpoints, so a sunrise or a sunset hike will provide a beautiful view.
Daneal R — Google review
Perfect peak to hike if you want combined views of the west/south west coast along with the Black River Gorges. There is so much to gaze at when you reach the top. You can spot rivers, beaches, malls, residential areas, vegetation, and other peaks. The view of Le Morne Brabant from afar is the standout one. The path up La Tourelle is very steep from start to finish, which makes it quite challenging. There are only a few spots where the terrain is flat along the way. The path is full of trees, which is good since it protects you from the sunlight. Depending on which path you follow, you may even spot a mini waterfall where you can freshen up and take a break on your way up. Before going for a climb, you have to make sure that you are not trespassing in any private residential area without permission.

It was my first hike in 2020, and after 6 years. I had hiked only Le Pouce Mountain and Lion Mountain before...in 2014. This year a did quite some peaks since the end of confinement. Waterfalls
Chamarel Waterfall is a must-see attraction in Mauritius, known for its picturesque 272-ft. cascading waters. It is the highest waterfall on the island and draws visitors with its spectacular beauty, making it a popular spot for Instagrammers. The falls originate from three streams of the River Saint-Denis and are estimated to be millions of years old, flowing over ancient lava rocks that date back around 810 million years.
Breathtaking View Surrounded by Lush Greenery Chamarel Waterfall is an absolute gem and a must-see when visiting the area. The view from the main viewpoint is stunning — the waterfall plunges dramatically into a forested gorge, surrounded by rich, tropical greenery that makes the whole scene look like something out of a postcard. The sound of the water and the fresh air make it a refreshing and peaceful stop. It’s a great spot for nature lovers and photographers alike. Whether you're visiting as part of the Seven Coloured Earths experience or just passing through Chamarel, this waterfall is definitely worth the stop!
Anujay S — Google review
Visiting Chamarel Waterfall was truly one of the highlights of my trip to Mauritius. Tucked away in the lush southwestern part of the island, this stunning waterfall is a breathtaking sight that perfectly captures the natural beauty of Mauritius. At around 100 meters tall, it's the tallest single-drop waterfall in the country, and the view from the main observation deck is simply unforgettable. Surrounded by tropical greenery and dramatic cliffs, the waterfall cascades with such elegance and power that you can't help but feel a sense of awe. The sound of the rushing water combined with the fresh, earthy scent of the forest makes the whole experience incredibly peaceful and rejuvenating. One of the best parts of the visit was how well-maintained the area is. The viewing platforms offer fantastic photo opportunities, and the path is easy to navigate, making it accessible for visitors of all ages. There is free parking available right near the viewpoint, making access hassle-free. After taking in the stunning scenery, you can also relax at nearby coffee shops and eateries just a short drive away, perfect for resting and enjoying some local flavors. In addition, near the waterfall, you can visit the tortoise nest and enclosure, where you’ll get a chance to see these gentle giants up close a unique and charming addition to your visit. If you're already exploring the nearby Seven Colored Earths, this is just a short walk or drive away and absolutely worth it. Whether you're a nature lover, a photographer, or simply looking for a serene escape, Chamarel Waterfall is a place that will leave a lasting impression. I highly recommend adding it to your Mauritius itinerary it's a natural gem not to be missed!
Samo — Google review
Chamarel Waterfalls in Mauritius is often cited as the island's highest single-drop waterfall, plunging approximately 100 meters (around 300 feet). Its sheer drop is comparable to the height of the Statue of Liberty, making it a truly awe-inspiring sight. The waterfall is set amidst lush, green tropical forests and dramatic rocky canyons, creating a picturesque backdrop. It originates from the River Saint-Denis, fed by three distinct streams. There are easily accessible viewing platforms offering fantastic perspectives of the cascading water and the surrounding landscape. Some prefer the higher viewpoint for a full panorama. The falls are often most impressive during the wetter months (May to December) when the flow is at its peak. In drier periods, the water might split into multiple streams. The waterfall is located within the Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark, so a visit often combines seeing both natural wonders. An entry fee covers access to both. Crowds:As a popular attraction, it can get crowded, especially during peak tourist season. Mosquitoes: It's advisable to bring mosquito repellent due to the lush surroundings. In short, Chamarel Waterfalls is a must-see in Mauritius, offering breathtaking views of a powerful and tall waterfall in a beautiful natural setting, often combined with a visit to the unique Seven Coloured Earth. There is an Entry fee of 800 MUR per Person. There is ample car parking available

Domaine De L'Etoile is a 15,200-hectare private nature reserve located in the southeast of Mauritius. It offers a range of activities such as zip lines, horseback riding, quad biking trips, and buggy excursions. The reserve features stunning trails that lead to the Bamboo mountain range with breathtaking views of Mauritius' volcanic landscape. Visitors can also enjoy adventure games and sports within the reserve.
Gorgeous and well maintained big area ranging from low flats to higher hills. Recommended to go though with a guide on a quad which can be rented (with some luck you might be able to go without bigger group of people and therefore enjoy some adrenaline sped as well, the trip itself is for approx. 3-4 hours). You can see animals running through the forests and fields, there are also many vantage points with very nice scenery where you can just take a break and enjoy the sight. The guide we had was a very pleasant and kind young man who spoke English well. I assume the photos below say it all. Recommended.

My partner and I got a glass bottomed boat over to the island. We were expecting amazing things (unsure why) but were a little disappointment when we arrived. The island is very basic, has a small bar and BBQ area. Be warned.... Once you are on the island there is no escaping until your return boat arrives on the dock. The bar has a limited selection of drinks, the food was already finished when we arrived and you have to pay extra if you want the luxury of lounging on a sunbed. The toilet and shower facilities are good should you require them. Would we rush to go back again.... Errrmmmm probably not, unless we booked the living accommodation which is available to rent on the island.

Gris Gris Beach, situated in the southernmost part of Mauritius near the historic village of Souillac, offers a unique and dramatic coastal experience. Unlike other beaches on the island, Gris Gris is characterized by its high sea cliffs and powerful waves that crash against them. While swimming and water sports are not advisable due to strong currents, visitors can still appreciate the tropical beauty and stunning sunsets from viewpoints like Roche qui Pleure.
Parking 🅿️ Lot small. Must wait to get parking. Else view is spectacular. Tourists should be warned not to adventure in Gris Gris sea water as the sea is very rough and more rough on severely windy rainy days. Be warn to venture on shore with cautiousness and walking on top against wind with cautiousness. Precautions are to be taken at all times.

We stopped at this spot on our south coast tour. It's an impressive area with cliffs and a sandy beach. However, the parking lot is rather small. Due to the strong surf, I wouldn't go swimming there. There's a sign warning of the danger. The view, however, is breathtaking.

Rochester Falls is a stunning 10-meter waterfall located in the lush jungle setting of Souillac, Mauritius. The waterfall is surrounded by unique rectangular rock formations, creating a picturesque and tranquil atmosphere. Visitors can easily access the falls by following well-marked signage through sugarcane plantations, leading to a slightly rugged but manageable hiking trail. Once at the falls, visitors are encouraged to take a dip in the refreshing waters.
Dear reader, This is an amazing place to visit. As the weather in the mountains has seen some heavy rainfall, this made the falls spectacular! Now, as the weather was intermittent rain, the drive to the falls was a test on one’s rally driving. Just take your time, and you’ll be fine. There is a parking area, and it’s a 5 minute downhill walk. There is actually a police person there now, as cars have been broken into later in the afternoons. You can see traces of glass on the floor. So, go before 3-4pm and all should be fine. There is a guy selling pineapple’s for 150rupees. He’s cool, and a little extra like 200 goes a long way for him. Overall, great box to tick off, on your journey around the island.
Simon C — Google review
Rochester Falls is a beautiful and refreshing spot tucked away just a short 10-minute walk from the parking lot. You need to off-road for around 2km. The waterfall itself is stunning, with unique and eye-catching rock formations that make it stand out from others on the island. It’s a great place to relax, take photos, or simply enjoy nature. As a perfect way to wrap up the visit, I grabbed a fresh pineapple snack from the fruit stand near the parking area — he sells tender coconut and pineapple around MRU 100 and 150 respectively. If you’re in the area, Rochester Falls is definitely worth a quick stop.

Cascade Eau Bleu is a secluded waterfall that offers a serene and off-beat experience. It can be easily found with the help of Google maps, and there is a small parking area near the entrance. The trail to the waterfall is noticeable from the road, and when it has rained, the pool below will have water flowing. The hike to the top of the falls and dried-up riverbed is short but rewarding.
Eau Bleu Cascade is truly a mesmerizing sight, an oasis of tranquility that captures the essence of nature's beauty. As you approach this breathtaking waterfall, you're immediately struck by the incredible blue hue of the water, which flows effortlessly over the rocks, creating a stunning contrast with the surrounding greenery. The vibrant turquoise shade of the water is unlike anything you've seen before, almost as if the falls are painting a picture of serenity in motion. What makes Eau Bleu Cascade even more special is the silence that surrounds it. The only sound you hear is the gentle rush of the water, accompanied by the soft whispers of the wind through the trees. It’s a peaceful, almost meditative atmosphere, perfect for those looking to escape the noise of the world and reconnect with nature. The beauty of Eau Bleu Cascade isn’t just in the waterfall itself, but also in the serene surroundings. Lush forests and towering trees envelop the area, making it a perfect spot for reflection, photography, or simply enjoying the moment. Whether you're hiking, resting, or just admiring the view, this tranquil destination will leave you feeling refreshed and at peace. Eau Bleu Cascade is truly a haven for nature lovers seeking both beauty and stillness.

⚠️ Please bring your rubbish back with you! 🌍 One of my favourite places in Mauritius, the spot is incredible but i find more and more plastic there. Please be civilised with this beautiful natural heaven. Find parking in the fields and walk along the river to find different paths bringing you to different waterfalls. Some paths are harder than others. 🦟 Bring mosquito spray as the place is full of them or stay in the water to be protected! 🌈 Mother nature will thank you if you take an empty bin bag to collect other people’s trash left on site.

One of the best and beautiful waterfall i ever see. 😍☀️The special is, it's beautiful and you can easily swim without doubt. Just take good shoes with you because It's a steep descent, but there are plenty of solid and secure roots to hold on to. It's not as difficult or dangerous as some here describe, only if it's rained, then maybe. But i let the pictures speak

Amazing place to enjoy turquoise water and the waterfall! There is a small parking 🅿️, protected by police car, it might be a bit difficult to find, look for the mini turn in the bushes. Path to the waterfall may be a bit tricky if traveling in summer after rain as it gets mud and slippery. However, we managed to get there together with a baby.
Karolina M — Google review
Quite a technical access. You’ll need to park in the designated parking lot or in empty spots along the road, then follow a dirt path. From there, the trail goes downhill and you’ll have to walk along a dried riverbed to reach the waterfall. Be careful, as the rocks in the river can be slippery. Once you arrive, the waterfall is stunning !!Clear water, refreshing but not too cold. You can even jump from side rocks (if you're experenced) Totally worth the effort!

Unbelievable, I was the only one there. It's a hell of a climb down and back up, so not easy for some. There might be another way but I didn't see. Water temperature was perfect still. I had to park about 200m away as there is no parking closer. It's just beautiful, I will definitely go back.

Worth the visit but difficult to find and the track down is not easy. Added a photo for people to look out for for the Start of the track. It's near a pumping station but unless you have GPS and a healthy sense of adventure give this one a miss

As of 3rd of October 2025 the waterfall was almost dry. Even no small lake to swim in. The way to the waterfall was full of mosquitoes and very slippery.

Kestrel Valley is a vast private area spanning hundreds of hectares, providing numerous trekking opportunities through well-maintained trails. Visitors can explore the diverse Mauritian wildlife and plant life in its pristine natural setting. The guided tours offer insightful knowledge about indigenous and exotic flora, including their uses and origins. Additionally, the valley is home to cozy lodges that allow guests to immerse themselves in the serene beauty of nature away from urban constraints.
Our guide took his time to explain and make our small excursion wonderful. For sure thing i learned a lot in plants. Endemic, exotic, types of trees and its use and origin. Kestrel Feeding. That's someone who show love and dedication in his work. Unfortunately not that much photos. Mostly it's a video trip.

Lavilleon Adventure Park, located in Mauritius, offers a nature lover's paradise with various activities such as archery and ziplining. Visitors can enjoy splendid views of the surrounding mountains and coastline while trying out thrilling adventures like the bridge walk and ziplines. The park is surrounded by wonderful nature, providing a peaceful atmosphere for visitors to relax and take in the breathtaking scenery. Additionally, there is a restaurant at the top offering a simple but tasty menu with stunning views.
We discovered Lavilleon Adventure Park thanks to a recommendation from our taxi driver MEVIN , and it turned out to be an amazing experience. One of the highlights was the Nepanese Bride, which had two levels of difficulty, making it exciting for both beginners and thrill-seekers. We also had the pleasure of meeting Dylan, the photographer, who was incredibly friendly. He even filmed a video of us with our phone, which was a nice personal touch. The quad tour with our guide, Luic, was fantastic. He was very friendly, and we had a great conversation during the ride. He also helped us take some photos and videos with our phones, which made the experience even more memorable. We opted for the Adventure Tour, which lasted about an hour. Everything went smoothly, and we felt well taken care of throughout the activities. The cost for the two activities was around €100 per person, which we found reasonable considering the quality and fun we had. Overall, we highly recommend Lavilleon Adventure Park for a fun and adventurous day!

Amazing Adventure Experience! We had an unforgettable time at the adventure park! The hiking trails were scenic and well-marked, offering a perfect mix of challenge and natural beauty with scenic views. The zipline experience was absolutely thrilling — flying over the treetops with incredible views all around. The Nepalese bridge was a unique highlight, adding just the right amount of excitement and adrenaline as we crossed. The staff were professional, friendly, and ensured safety throughout every activity. Whether you're an adventure junkie or just looking for a fun day out in nature, this park is a must-visit! Thank you so much🙏🏻

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to try the zip line as there was a two-hour wait for the previous group to complete the route. However, we still enjoyed the stunning views and appreciated the variety of activities the park offers. There is even a helipad from which scenic helicopter tours over the island depart. Everything was clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. A great place to explore nature and adventure in one location!

I had the best time at Adventure Club Mauritius! If you’re into fun outdoor activities, this place is a must. They offer amazing experiences like quad biking, ziplining, and hiking through stunning nature. Everything felt safe and well-organized, and the guides were super friendly and made sure everyone was having a good time. The views during the hikes and zipline were just breathtaking — totally worth it! It’s such a fun way to explore the wild side of Mauritius. I left feeling happy, a little muddy, and full of great memories.

A very beautiful place however i don't recommend going there on a rainy day. The hiking was slippery and muddy but it was a lot of fun with friends. I felt like i was living outerbanks' life. But our shirts and shoes became muddy due to rain. And when we got to the viewpoint after 30 mins , i felt like it was not worth it.There are more fun activities but i did only hiking of 30 mins.

We participated in a via ferrata experience, but unfortunately, it was very disappointing. We had booked a few days in advance for a specific time slot, but when we arrived, we still had to wait over 30 minutes for the guide. The lady at reception was kind and told us to wait, which we did patiently. Eventually, a man showed up, helped us put on the via ferrata gear, and asked us to wait again. After another 10 minutes, we asked when we would actually start. Then, another man appeared, said he was going to get his own gear, and without much explanation, started leading us to the trail. He briefly showed us how to attach the carabiners, but after that, he didn’t speak a word during the entire trip. He walked several meters ahead, only glancing back occasionally to check if we were still there. There was no engagement, no guidance, and no sense of safety or shared experience. To be honest, it didn’t even feel like a real via ferrata — it was more of a basic trekking path with minimal climbing elements. (It took us 1 hour, not 2-3 like they are saying on the website). We actually had more fun hiking up Le Morne on our own. Overall, the service was poor, the experience underwhelming, and definitely not worth the money. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The Tamarind Falls Hiking Trail Start offers a challenging yet rewarding hike through lush forests and past numerous stunning waterfalls. The trail involves steep climbs where hikers must navigate rocky terrain and tree roots. It's recommended to use a walking app for navigation, but even then, getting lost is possible due to poorly marked paths. Despite this, the sensational waterfalls and adventurous atmosphere make the trek worthwhile.
We did the 4 waterfall hike without a guide in about 4 hours with breaks at each waterfall. We went without a guide and followed the paths and a GPX route. There was some rain the past couple of days and it was slippery, but it's definitely doable. If you do want a guide, research a good one, not a hawker. We passed a couple of groups with guides and you can tell that some are much more useful than others.

Absolutely stunning hike with opportunities to bathe near the falls. The basic loop is easy enough but if you want to see all 7 falls I would suggest paying for a guide. Highly recommend this hike for outdoor lovers.

I can only share what others did already besides no nees for a guide at all. I was alone and just used alltrail app super easy. Pathes can be seen and if you did a bit of reaearch for example go behind the waterfall super easy as well. Do it counter clockwise no physical strenght needed. The desecent quite steep but trees everywhere to hold on. Ascent always a little bit. I did not see any guides, there were few people at the bus station trying to wave but only there. Besides that the trail can also be quite busy.
Sabrina N — Google review
This was our most WOW moment in Mauritius, and that's saying something! Guides are available, but we decided not to use one based on the amount of information available online. Follow Google maps to the Hiking Trailhead point, and you can park there near the temple - ignore the guys a kilometer before that at the bus station who will tell you you're at the falls. As you walk down the side of the sugar cane field, you can pop into the left to see the first waterfall, but the second one is where the real wow factor begins. Follow the dirt road from the main road, and where it begins to turn to the right you go straight onto the trail there, and then follow it down to the left to reach the top of the waterfall, and be blown away by it! To continue, you cross the river and into the forest again, the trail will bring you down behind that waterfall, and from there it's easy enough to follow the trail down past waterfalls 3, 4, 5 and 6. From there you can climb back uphill and you'll emerge onto the dirt road again, and follow that back to the car. We did this with a 7, 9 and 11 year old, and while challenging, is not terribly difficult. It is absolutely worth doing and will be a highlight of any trip to Mauritius

We thought reading the reviews that without a guide was good. We are above normal hikers and thought we do it. Fortunately we ran in a local guide (Maxwell) who took us for 1000 rps down the (trail). Slippery and sliding and a trail??? He did a great job and we had to say. With a guide it made t way easier and felt more save. So find Maxwell👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Go! Don’t miss out. Park opposite Toorea Poullay Mauree Kovil and use an app like Komoot to find the trail. You’ll have locals trying to sell you a guide, there were a few groups that had done this but it’s also completely manageable without. You’ll see trees marked with red dots showing you the way and it’s such a well trodden path you won’t get lost. You do need a good baseline level of fitness, sensible trail shoes, water and don’t forget bug spray! It’s only 140m ascent but tricky ground.

Guide asked for 20€ per head for a group 8 so decided to go without a guide as that was absurd Super nice trail but slippery at some points and would require you to use all limbs at once. Was a bit annoyed that a blue ribbon was put on a wrong spot ( a trick as a guide who happened to run across us mentioned). I would say watch out and only stick to 100% sure paths (stay close to the water ) Caught a rainbow on one of the falls

Sept Cascades is a stunning trek featuring seven cascading waterfalls, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and adventure seekers. The trail offers opportunities to take refreshing breaks and even dip into the crystal-clear waters of the falls. A local guide can enhance the experience by leading you through the sometimes tricky paths and showing you hidden gems like a natural fish spa. While not essential, having a guide can provide valuable insights on safe swimming spots and ensure an unforgettable journey.
A beautifull hike that we did with a guide : thomsonadventure that I highly recomand. Not physically hard, but the trail and path are hard to find. That's why it can be better to have a guide Even though I understand People that do it on their own ( it is doable ), we crossed some of them that were lost and asked our guides where to go We only did the firsts 4 waterfalls, that lasted around 1h45 with some swim break Nearly all the walking is done under the shade of the trees
Nicolas G — Google review
The 7 falls are well worth the effort of the climb down and back up but it's not for the faint hearted or those with impaired mobility as the terrain is difficult. We went the day after it had rained in the night which made it very muddy and extra slippery so if you can plan your trip to avoid this, it's worth doing. WARNING beware of the unlicensed guides. They bring shame on an otherwise lovely nation. They stand in the road and direct you off to what they say is parking so you follow the moped and then the hassle begins! They have directed you to a very difficult access point if you don't accept their guided tour they know you will get lost and come back up for help at which point they try to get you to let them in your car so they can take you to an easier access point, which turns out to be where you would have ended up had they not directed you off the road. He tried to export 5000 rupees for this but I stood up to him and didn't let him in the car. We found the right place ourselves but this experience did leave me rattled to the point I nearly turned for home, I'm so glad we didn't as it was an amazing experience from that point onwards.

Best experience in Mauritius, dont go to Casela, go here instead for a hike. We hired Thomson Adventure and the guide was great! The hike would have been difficult for us with a kid. You can swim in 2 of the 4 waterfalls, but the water is cold now as its winter here. Many people did it though.

Caution: We were almost lured toward a bus station — no idea what that was about. There were no other cars, just parked buses. Luckily, we didn’t even roll down the window, just turned around and went back to the main road. We then parked by the cemetery, as recommended, where all the other visitors were. So: stay alert, don’t let anyone talk you into anything, and don’t get led off the main path. We parked at the cemetery and walked past the temple along the sugarcane field. The trail down starts pretty inconspicuously – after power pole 420, turn left down into the slope. If there hadn’t been other hikers around, we probably would’ve missed it, because there are several paths leading down. The markings are there but subtle. You can tell where most people have gone before – the branches are smooth and slippery from all the hands. The trail is rocky and sometimes steep, but totally doable. If you’re reasonably sure-footed, it’s no problem. There are usually several ways to go down, so if one section looks too steep, there’s often an easier option nearby. We did the hike without a guide and went down to the fifth waterfall – that was the perfect point to turn back. Beyond that, you’d definitely want a guide, helmet, and ropes. Stunning views and a fun, adventurous trail. Not exactly a walk in the park, but far from extreme – just right if you want to see something amazing without overdoing it.

Beautiful trek with nice waterfalls! I did this trek with a trekking guide. The guide took us along a beautiful trek through the 7 cascading waterfalls. Great opportunity to take breaks between the treks and dip in water! Also, our guide showed us to a natural fish spa. We dipped our feets in it and let the fishes do it magic. This was heavenly! I would highly recommend you to take a guide with you as the trekking routes are not obvious and are tricky. Walking boots, insect repellents, sun screen lotions and plenty of water are must!

The Corps de Garde Hike Entrance in Mauritius is known to be one of the most challenging hikes in the area, recommended only for experienced hikers. It's advised to start early due to limited shade from the sun and bring plenty of water. The trail offers stunning views of the sea and urban cities, making it a worthwhile experience for those prepared for its difficulty level.
Great hike, nothing very dangerous but there are not many places to hide from the sun. We started at 7am and came back down by 11.30am. We were lucky on the way up that it was cloudy but coming down, the last hour was difficult because of the sun, even with water and a hat. Maybe more advisable going earlier or closer to sun down as the sun sets behind the mountain. It was worth it though.

It's pretty nice but it's not recommended to go during summer. It's just scorching hot there. No places to hide from the sun. Pro tip, just don't follow the marked trail on the left during your descent. It's just a long long detour. You'll run out of water during summer quickly. Mare aux Vacoas is a large, secluded reservoir that was constructed in 1885 and offers a serene atmosphere, guided forest walks, and opportunities to observe wildlife. It supplies the Central Plateau and some coastal villages with exceptionally pure water. The area features sugar cane fields, coffee plantations, and the Chamarel waterfall. Visitors can capture stunning photos of the milky turquoise water when it's somewhat dried out, revealing yellow sand and rocks.
A very big reservoir of fresh water supplying the Central Plateau and some coastal villages with a high purity of water unparalleled in the Whole of the African Continent. One of the oldest reservoir still in use by the Central Water Authority, CWA, coupled with the La Marie filter Station is highly regarded in the Republic of Mauritius.

Really nice for taking photos of the milky turqoise water. Best when being a bit dried out, so you have lots of yellow sand and rocks peeking out. BUT: people...do not litter! This place is trashed! It really reaches a point where you basically wade through garbage(I had to stamp out tons of trash in my photos...). NOT COOL.

Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire, also known as Bench 828, offers a thrilling hiking experience in Mauritius. The trail begins from the Black River Gorges viewpoint and leads to a challenging yet rewarding ascent. After about an hour or more of trekking, hikers encounter a tricky section with ropes and rocks to reach the summit. The panoramic view from the top is truly magnificent.
Top hike… just expect super muddy trek 3km there and 3 back… don’t take white shoes :) the views were spectacular
Oldřich H — Google review
It was a great hike, but I don't recommend going if there was even a little rain the day before. From what I heard it is already a muddy hike(with no prior rain) and with rain days before it makes it a tricky hike, there was a section we had to slide down on our bums and not much to grip on to hence us sliding down. We took another route back as we didn't want to climb back up that same spot with nothing to hold on to, to get back up. Otherwise we enjoyed ourselves and just take in that there will be muddy ground, wear hiking shoes as you want to make sure you have the best possible grip and make sure you double tie your laces or you can loose them in the mud (fun times😂) . Will definitely do this hike again but I will be waiting for clear skies and no rain for a week before I go. We started our hike from black river gorges in Tamarin, there are two other routes to the top from other locations that I heard are easier.
Robyn B — Google review
Fairly easy hike, even for those who aren't experienced hikers. Last part includes some ropes to help with the final ascend. Ideally wear hiking waterproof shoes as it gets really muddy, especially if it rains in the days prior. Pack some water too. Hike takes around 4 hours roundtrip (2 hours per way), depending on pace. Views from the top and along the route are totally worth it.
Robert C — Google review
Agree with the comments that this one viewpoint is not worth it. Extremely slippery all the way, ankle-deep mud, no views except the very summit, and just before summit - very steep slippery rocks covered in mud which you have to climb using ropes of questionable quality and tree branches (and just hope for the best), all this being quite exposed. The view from the top is nice but the last part before summit I find not safe and overall hike not so nice (as a hiker with a lot of experience in different mountains).
Sophia K — Google review
Don’t you dare come to Mauritius and not take this hike! From the Black River Gorges viewpoint go left and you’ll see the entrance. Just follow the trail up and down and up and up - Never stops 😉 Depending on your fitness I’ll take you a bit over one hour or like me, over 2 hours and you’ll reach the tricky part, the last 30 meters. Straight up with the help of a rope, tree branches and rocks to the summit. Magnificent view!! Getting down was trickier still. Loose rubble, a straight drop down the mountain on your right…. Not for the squeamish (Like me… I was terrified!). Strange but I had the impression that the way down had more UP stretches… Beware: DO NOT GO just after it rained. Wait for some dry days before going as the ground will be extremely muddy and slippery

Hi guys, this is my second time on bench 828 , and we can say that 1st is 1st you can't compare with second because our second experience is like we just come to walk here and talk and go home nothing like any adventure, but you can't say that it is not best for hiking. If you love to walk in wood and want to hear some natural sounds like a bird, fresh air, leaf and all who will connect to you with nature the bench 828 is the best option in Mauritius 🦤. we went two time in a group but I never went alone so if someone went alone here please shere your experience because I thought alone experience is better than group. This is my own experience, it is better to go in shiny weather and this trail is for all ages who can Walk 😀.

Nestled within the stunning Black River Gorges of Mauritius, Mare aux Joncs Waterfalls is a hidden gem that beckons nature enthusiasts and adventurers alike. This secluded waterfall offers an escape from the bustling tourist spots, allowing visitors to forge a deeper connection with the island's pristine wilderness. The trek to reach Mare aux Joncs is an adventure in itself, winding through dense forests and rugged landscapes that reward your efforts with spectacular views at every turn.
Being an outdoor enthusiast, my friend took me to the Black River Gorges, where we hiked to the breathtaking Mare Aux Joncs waterfall for an unforgettable experience! The trail itself was moderately challenging, with a mix of rugged terrain and scenic vistas that kept me engaged throughout. But the true highlight was the stunning waterfall that awaited us at the end of the hike. The trail was well-marked and well-maintained, making it accessible to hikers of all skill levels. Be prepared for some rocky and slippery sections, especially near the falls. What made this hike truly special was the sense of solitude and connection with nature. We encountered only a handful of fellow hikers along the way, and the peaceful atmosphere allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in nature.

Very nice hike. You will spend most of the time behind the trees, away from bright sunlight, but you'll still get sweaty, even in the winter. It's a bit challenging, as the trail surface varies widely, has rocks, boulders, slippery soil, multiple water crossings. So you will have to be in a decent shape. Sometimes you may wonder which way to go, but if you pay attention to the signs on the trees (colored markings, yellow ribbons, etc.) - you'll quickly find the right direction. The track is about 3.9 km one way, with elevation gain of around 320m, and despite what is shown on official poster at the park entrance, it takes around 1h25m to get there, and 1h20m to get back, if you don't make any stops on the way. Plan around 3h20m, to allow time for some short stops on the way, and rest at the waterfall. A proper hiking shoes that you are not afraid of make wet and dirty are a must. Ok for children with some hiking experience 9+. Enjoy.

Beautiful waterfall. You cross the river seven times along the trail. The vegetation changes completely from area to area. About 6 km (one way) worth the walk. Not too strenuous. It meanders up and down except for section near the end which is steep for a short while. You are not walking in the sun as you are under cover of the trees but lots of mosquitoes.
Carol C — Google review
We went in July and it was the worst hike I ever did. Starting at Riviere Noire entrance there is no trail, only a path full of stones in different sizes so you always have your eyes on ground not to fall. After a while it gets very muddy, then you have to cross the river several times over some slippery stones. You can of course wade through the water but the stones under water are also unpredictable and slippery and you shouldn't wear long trousers as it is advised because of the mosquitos. After crossing the river three times which took us already 2 hours we decided to return. On our way back we were attacked by dozens of biting flies. Not an experience I want to make again.

Awesome place with beautiful views. You can chill in the cave, or get under the waterfall to refresh from the walk there

Well maintained well marked , free access ,no guide really needed, start from black river gorge centre with parking facilities and toilet. Quite muddy and and some river crossing. Waterfall can be climbed...
K3sh37 — Google review
Don't go unless you just want to hike. Nothing to see and this was a difficult path. Avoid if you have weak knees.
Lynette R — Google review
There is about 2h walking distance. Hiking shoes are a must due to the muddy and rocky road. Recommend to wear long sleeves and long pants to avoid mosquito bites. Anyway, the waterfall at the end is spectacular and can go into for a water play.

Hiking area
Deux Mamelles in Mauritius is a must-visit for hiking enthusiasts. The island offers unparalleled beauty with its sapphire-blue lagoons and stunning landscapes. Hiking here provides unforgettable views of volcanic peaks, waterfalls, and rare flora and fauna. Many visitors recommend starting the hike early to catch the breathtaking sunrise from the top. While relatively easy, it's important to have a guide and proper footwear due to steep areas.
Amazing panoramic views from.above especially during sunrise. We started going up at 5am and reached to top at 5:30am for sunrise. Very easy and beautiful hike for great views. Definitely worth it :) check the weather before as it might be very slippery if it rains.

Really amazing hike. Nice view from the top (scary actually). Be careful, the signs from the parking lot are confusing: some take you around the sugar cane fields and sort of confuse you, some take you directly into the forest which leads to the top... The best path would be to to up straight as you leave your car (in my opinion).

The peak, standing at 323 meters above sea level, provides a pristine and breathtaking view of the city and its harbor. The paved route encourages walking, jogging, and running while providing stunning views that make the climb worthwhile.
It is has a very beautiful scenery, cool and fresh air to breathe no smoke up there. The photos and videos I posted is after the health track and the highest point of the mountain 🏔️

A straightforward walk with a large paved route for walkers, joggers and runners alike that enables all to reach the summit. Reaching the top, you are met with a beautiful view of Port Louis cradled by the surrounding mountains and the waters and you get a beautiful view Belle Village/Pailles on the other side. Would like to revisit at around sunset time and at night. A really helpful way to encourage people to walk with the paved route - the view makes it well worth it.

Very beautiful scenery at night! You can see how all of Port Louis is lit up! 🌃 Really beneficial climbing for your health! Those who reside there are very lucky ☺️ Very nice place to go hiking, 👌 specially for beginners, it's well paved, I'd advise to go at 5:30am or 4:00pm because of the heat. It's well paved. Took me 3hrs to climb the Mountain up to 3000 km and come back down the 2nd time..😌 Very fun & healthy activity to do with loved ones ❤️ And yes.. there's a book nest if ever you wish to drop some books for someone else. Please go hiking regularly if you live nearby. Mauritius has a rate of 10.8 % of obesity and a rate of 22% of diabetes, ranked 5th worldwide in 2021.

Reservoir
Eau Bleue Reservoir in Mauritius offers a unique blend of sapphire beaches and serene forested waterfalls, making it a must-visit destination. The area is dotted with numerous falls, providing multiple attractions in one location. While not exactly a hiking spot, the journey to the waterfalls involves navigating through slippery rocks, but the stunning views and invigorating swimming experience make it all worthwhile. Due to its secluded location, visitors can enjoy the breathtaking scenery with minimal crowds.

Went on 12th of oct and mark my words don't visit around this time. It's the worst time to visit. The waterfall was totally dried up and full of mosquitoes. Better choose April to July.
Aakanksha R — Google review
One of my favourite attractions on Mauritius. It took some time to park the car and find the right path. Once near the waterfalls, there was a tricky descend over some slippery rocks. This is totally worth it as the views and the swimming was breathtaking. Due to its hidden locations there were hardly any other people.

Hiking area
The Macchabée Forest Hike is a gentle and immersive trail located within the Black River Gorges National Park in Mauritius. It offers hikers a chance to delve deep into lush greenery, following a ridge that provides scenic views of the park and nearby rivers. The hike includes stunning viewpoints overlooking gorges and waterfalls, with the Macchabée Loop leading to a waterfall with a drop of hundreds of feet.
We really enjoyed this hike! We went on rainy day in Oct, following main trail to Macchabee loop signpost and proceed to narrow forrest trail. If you are somewhat experienced hiker, you should clear it just fine - just a few slippery places where you need to pay extra attention. In the middle, you will find clearing with nice waterfall spot where you can get some sunlight and stop for a break. From this point, its most "difficult" part of trail with one crossing, where we needed to get our shoes wet to cross small mountain stream.
Šimon M — Google review
Best thing we've done here so far. Beautiful scenery with some stunning views over the gorges and waterfalls. The Macchabee Loop takes you right over the top of another waterfall with a drop of hundreds of feet with freedom to go as close to the edge as your stomach and nerve will allow. The route is very well pisted and largely easy going but the actual gorge section is steep both up and down and you need to be reasonably fit and sure footed. Loads of parking, no charge and well signed (although be alert to the alternative Macchabee routes). The final bonus is that at 600m odd, it's noticeably cooler than at sea level. You're also in good shade a lot of the time.
Nestor P — Google review
Easy walk, not very long from 1.5 to 4.5 h diferent paths , nice view points. Recomended!
Vaidotas Z — Google review
Nice hike in the forest, we did the Macchabée loop, which took us 2,5 hours. The first 2kms are easy are that interesting but the view points and the waterfall are worth it. The way up after the waterfall is a bit muddy, make sure to wear good shoes.
