Park
Dorothea Dix Park, located in the heart of downtown Raleigh, spans a massive 308 acres and offers a variety of outdoor activities for visitors. The park features rolling hills, shade trees, and stunning views of the city skyline. Visitors can enjoy picnics, bike riding, soccer matches, yoga sessions, and more. Additionally, the park hosts regular events and festivals. A visitor center housed within a restored 100-year-old cottage provides information to guests.
As a family and senior photographer in Raleigh, I love this gem of a park! The wide open spaces, tall grasses, and skyline views create the dreamiest backdrop—especially during golden hour. I love how versatile it is for both senior and family photo sessions. There's always something blooming or a new angle to capture, which keeps it feeling fresh and inspiring every time I’m there.

A beautiful place to be at with family! A sea of beautiful sunflowers in full bloom facing the sun, it was a sight to be behold. And then on the other side of field of other mixed variety of flowers. Beautiful Park, along with the hammocks between the trees and plenty of shade under the trees I loved it. It gets really hot and the best time to go would be the earliest you can. Plenty of parking and other amenities, such as bathrooms.
Pawan A — Google review
Dix Park is a huge area where everyone can find something to enjoy — from nature lovers to art fans, or families with kids. The park itself is beautiful, but I especially want to highlight the playground area. It’s one of the best we’ve ever seen! It’s very large and divided into sections for different age groups. The design feels like a real piece of art made for play, exercise, and discovery. My son spent an hour just in the water mill area! We were really impressed by how many different things kids can do and learn there.
Oksana — Google review
I absolutely love every part of this park! They're is something for everyone!! I have been 3 times in the last 3 months. This place is perfectly crafted. The splash pad, the play area, the mirror maze, the sand pit, the water works area, the kiddie obstacle course. I love how they have kept several of the wild flower areas. The store is cute and quaint. I liked the selection of snacks they have. The Trolls are a cherry on top!! Don't walk, but run to this place and bring the whole family, young to old.
Renee C — Google review
Gorgeous but caution to those who have mobility restrictions or trouble with walking up steep dirt/rocky terrain. Maybe 25-30 feet but it is the only entrance/exit to get to the tall vast area of sunflowers. Small area with short sunflowers and wildflowers in front of parking lot. Still beautiful though. Cannot use wheelchairs/walkers or any kind of vehicles up and down the steep hill.
Jennifer D — Google review
Awesome park there is so much here. They have big fields trails hammocks flower forests. It is all amazing they have giant trolls made of wood that you go around and look at. It has great views of downtown raleigh. I definitely recommend coming to Dix Park its beautiful with plenty to do. They have a dog park playgrounds and many more. My favorite it so to have a picnic and then relax in the hammocks while enjoying the nature around you.
Brian G — Google review
Dix park is very huge and has many things to do for everyone from kids to adults.recently, trolls came to dix park and found their home. They are very huge and troll-ifc 🧌 must visit with kids to know better about nature and trails are very good and kid friendly.we found 5 trolls with our kids.they had fun finding trolls and play along the way 🤩there is a map for finding the trolls easily if you are with kids and elderly.
Mounica M — Google review
The playgrounds and water play areas are a great escape for a summer day. The concessions in the house of many porches are priced like a theme park so bring your wallet or pack your own drinks and snacks.

Boylan Bridge in Raleigh is a popular spot for capturing stunning skyline views of the city. It offers panoramic vistas that include iconic landmarks such as the shimmer wall on the convention center, the PNC building, and the historic warehouse district with its train tracks. Whether it's a sunny day, a colorful sunset, or an illuminated night scene, Boylan Bridge provides an aesthetic backdrop for photography enthusiasts and visitors alike.
Nice and simple view of downtown Raleigh I enjoyed it with my girlfriend. And if you Lucky you can see the train coming.
Raul — Google review
Cool place to see the trains and skyline. We went during the day. I bet it’s pretty at sunset!
Heather B — Google review
My son loved our trip to this bridge! If you are looking for trains to spot, this is a great spot. Park for free around the corner and enjoy to your hearts content.
Brittany C — Google review
A spot to see the Raleigh skyline if desired. It's a very brief experience (the skyline can be viewed from the walkway over the bridge which is very short) and a short walk after you find parking on a nearby street.
Tom L — Google review
Pretty neat area. There is a little park where you can find some parking. There is a pretty good view of the city, but I think the night view is probably much better than the day. They are also doing some construction, which takes away from the Skyline. While there, an artist was working on a mural. They are definitely adding some color to it. Next to is on one side is a restaurant/Brewery and the other is a hippyish looking coffee shop. It's definitely worth checking out.
Anthony C — Google review
X marks the spot for another tourist attraction I found on Google that didn't disappoint me at Boylan Bridge in Raleigh. The view of the city is unbelievable. If you're looking for the perfect shot of the capital, this is the spot! I’m talking about both ground and aerial views. It offers a perfect urban backdrop with plenty of walking space on this bridge. Make a note of this location if you want to capture that amazing shot of the city!

Perched high above the bustling streets of Raleigh, The Dillon offers a unique dining experience that transports you straight to the heart of Manhattan. With its stunning skyline views from both the restaurant and sky bar, this venue is a true gem in the Warehouse District. Conceptualized by Samad Hachby and led by executive chef Jean Paul Fontaine, The Dillon serves an enticing selection of dishes inspired by global travels, ensuring there's something for every taste.
The absolutely best leasing/management team! Couldn’t be happier living at The Dillon. The monthly events they have are a lot of fun (especially the annual pool party). And everyone within the building are so helpful and friendly. Special shoutout to Chloe for moving me in and making the process super simple.

Went to the 9th floor for a free view of the city. Beautiful outdoor patio where you can see a birds eye view of Raleigh.
Aaron R — Google review
Nice spot to get a nice view of the city. The patio is free to the public reachable at the 9th floor (while higher floors are offices and not accessible). The public patio closes at 7 PM.
Davide V — Google review
I most certainly will park in the garage area again because it’s right next the train station, but the lady who works in the building. I don’t know what her name is. I seen her on my way back down to the pay-station. She seemed disinterested with helping anyone. I told her my car wouldn’t start and she looked at me as if I was a criminal trying to snatch her purse. Luckily I had a portable jumper in the back of my car. Had to google how to get into my own trunk without fob key. I couldn’t access the back because obviously my battery was dead, but a little customer service wouldve helped. Terrible.
TaRon T — Google review
I've lived here two months now and love it! Besides the amazing proximity to everything I need in a block radius, the facilities are brand new, the gym is so nice it makes me want to go exercise, and the staff do everything they can to resolve any issues that arise promptly. Like everything there are a few potential downsides. For me, the hardest thing is the street noise, but I came from a rural mountain house where you only heard coyotes at night. The noise is also a reminder of the vibrant community live in, so it's well worth it!

As someone born in Raleigh this was my first time going and from suggestion of my out of town gf. 9th floor view of the city. Open patio like area to hang or eat. Plenty of parking. In the warehouse district

I love the renovation to The Dillon in downtown Raleigh. The designers did well to work with the new design of Raleigh Union Station such that this old warehouse district now has been given a brand new life. Glad to see Raleigh showing a little architectural courage in it's urban areas!

The North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh is a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists. It boasts a diverse permanent collection spanning 5,000 years, along with captivating traveling exhibits. The museum's outdoor monument park and amphitheater offer a unique experience, featuring fan-favorite installations like the sci-fi rings, mirror labyrinth, Hobbit house, musical swings, and statues.
We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the museum and the artworks it exhibit. It was one of the best art museums in world, I’d reckon. It is well lit with a good combination of natural light and artificial light. There is enough space for visitors to see the artwork properly without disturbing each other or coming in each other‘s way. The artwork itself is good blend modern and traditional art. The exhibits are done with different mediums, which I really loved. There is tonnes of greenery and nature to enjoy art. There cafeteria was also great. There were things for kids to do. I would easily come to this museum with a picnic basket and spend my day here. Can’t believe this museum is free.
Nitka M — Google review
The North Carolina Museum of Art is an outstanding cultural destination that blends art, nature, and community. The permanent collection is beautifully curated, offering a wide range of works from European classics and African art to modern and contemporary pieces. Each gallery is spacious, thoughtfully arranged, and enhanced with natural light, creating an inviting atmosphere for visitors. The museum park is equally impressive, with miles of walking and biking trails accented by large-scale outdoor sculptures. It provides a unique opportunity to enjoy art in a natural setting, making the museum experience extend beyond the building itself. Staff and volunteers are consistently friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming, which adds to the overall positive experience. Another highlight is that admission to the permanent collection is free, making the museum highly accessible to the public while still offering high-quality exhibitions and events. Overall, the North Carolina Museum of Art sets a high standard for museums in the region. It is a place where art and community intersect in a meaningful way, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting or living in North Carolina.
Tasha L — Google review
This is a beautiful art museum! And it’s free. Except for some special exhibits. But the large portion of it is free. And stunning. The building itself is beautiful and they have some wonderful pieces. I was not expecting for this place to be so big. I will be back.
Andrea M — Google review
This is an amazing museum and we didn’t get to explore all of it because of how huge it is. We love art so we spent about 3 hours walking around learning & looking at African American art, European art, WWII art, Christian art, and many more other powerful artistic pieces with a historical background. The museum is absolutely free to explore which is great but no food and drinks inside the place. There’s about 2-3 different buildings to go into.
Carlos B — Google review
The free night event was wonderful. Plenty of exhibits . A variety of mediums. A quiet ,clean friendly atmosphere and plenty of on-site parking. The special exhibit...The book of Esther was informative and well put together. The African American exhibit was full of color and very eye-catching. The various mediums (wood, wire, paper, metal)will keep a person intrigued. There are benches throughout for time to reflect or just rest. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. There is a gift shop with a variety of items for sell such as books, jewelry, artwork and trinkets. There is also a dress up photo opportunity near the book of Esther exhibit.
Darlene W — Google review
On Sunday I went to experience the walking trails at the NC Museum of Art, and loved it! There are so many interesting art pieces in view while walking! The paths are measured and posted in the Welcome Center area and also on the Blue Path (sponsored by BCBS). I posted an image of that map. It felt safe with families, couples, and singles all around. I ended up walking on most of the paths, and it tired me out. Luckily, I was parked in the edge by the entrance with the Reedy Creek stoplight on Blue Ridge Road. A plethora of parking there!!! So great!
Nancy A — Google review
I love the museum park and all the installations and sculptures. Love the landscaping too. I love the design of the west building. Not so much about the collections though. Highly recommend the museum park. There is similar museum park which is the Glenstone Museum in Maryland.

Marbles Kids Museum, located in the Moore Square Historic District, is a nonprofit organization that aims to inspire imagination and learning through interactive displays and larger-than-life IMAX experiences. The museum was formed from the merger of two existing children's museums: Exploris and Playspace. Geared towards children under 12 years old, Marbles offers hands-on exhibits such as jungle safaris, pet stores, gardening activities, pirate ships, and ice hockey rinks.
This place is absolutely amazing to take your young kids to! My four year old had tons of fun every corner she went to explore. A lot of kids there so be prepared for yours to either interact or feel socially uncomfortable. Location is great too and parking isn't too bad. The gift shop, like every gift ever, is a bit pricey but has a lot to offer. Overall I'd go again with the little ones!
Jeff — Google review
This museum blew us away! It's definitely the best museum we've ever been to, and definitely worth the money and the trip to Raleigh. The entrance fee is incredibly reasonable compared to other museums, making it even more attractive. The place is truly fun and educational. The innovative hands-on exhibits are fantastic, engaging kids of all ages. We loved the award-winning programs and the larger-than-life movies. It's a perfect blend of entertainment and learning, perfect for kids and those young at heart. Highly recommended!
Jacqueline M — Google review
Went here on a field trip and it was the best thing ever! I really enjoy how many activities the establishment had, and how they welcome everyone no matter what. Even as a child, or even as an adult, you can come here and enjoy yourself and just have a good time in general. 5/5 stars! My favorite part was definitely the origami portion!
Mars O — Google review
Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh is a wonderful place for children to explore, learn, and have fun through hands-on play. The exhibits are creative, educational, and designed to engage kids of all ages — from toddlers to school-age children. Every section encourages imagination and curiosity, whether it’s the water play area, the pretend town, or the science and building exhibits. The museum is clean, well-organized, and staff members are friendly and helpful. The IMAX theater is an added bonus, making it a complete family experience. It’s a perfect destination for families, school trips, or weekend fun. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Raleigh.

This is definitely a wonderful place for kids to explore their their motor skills, creativity and imagination. I absolutely love all the areas and outdoor activities. My 2-year-old and 4-year-old had a ball. However, it was frustrating that the staff has little to no input or comments when rules aren't being followed and most of the parents are on their phone instead of attending to their child. Seemed like a drop off daycare where the kids went wild and the parents tuned out. We love the sensory room because my 4-year-old is on the spectrum and needed to calm down a little. However was unable to do so because even with posted signs it was treated as if any other room. Staff came in as part of a tour yet failed to tell the two phone parents in the room the purpose of the room. But we find this anywhere. There is so much for the children to do. Just make sure you're a parent that participates with your child instead of holding up the wall while your child pushes Littles
Lady R — Google review
My husband and I were on the fence about going here. I wish we would have came earlier! Our 2 year old had so much fun and would have loved to stay longer. Endless opportunities for pretend play, sensory activities, creative works, and physicality! This place has so much opportunity to create impactful and bonding moments with your child. Wish we had this in Detroit!
Holly G — Google review
I took my daughter here even though I wasn't sure how much she would be able to do. She just turned 2 but because of a genetic disorder, her mobility is very limited for her age. I was so incredibly impressed with how inclusive this museum was. We LOVED the quiet sensory rooms where she could play at her own pace without big kids making it unsafe. We were having so much fun that we didn't even realize there was a 2nd floor until we were about to leave, so then we stayed longer to play with the big legos! Thank you for putting so much thought into this museum. This is a dream come true for a mama of a special needs kid! I wish I had something this amazing where I live. Bonus points for having a "tasted toys" bin to keep everything sanitary. Part of my daughter's disorder makes her want to put everything in her mouth, so we returned A LOT of toys lol
Ashley D — Google review
This is one of the best children’s museums that I have ever been to. The people are nice and fantastic. It’s ultra clean and there are exhibits and different spaces to keep the kids entertained for hours and hours and hours. You could honestly spend all day here and still not cover everything. Also, it’s very reasonably priced.

William B. Umstead State Park is a popular destination in North Carolina, offering over 5,000 acres of woodlands with hiking and bridle trails, campgrounds, and three man-made fishing lakes. The park's vast size provides a peaceful getaway on the outskirts of Raleigh, Cary, and Morrisville. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore 13 miles of multi-use trails suitable for horseback riding, jogging, and cycling along rolling hills.
Love the hiking trails. Very well maintained, wide, and well marked without detracting from the natural beauty. And let's talk about the beauty: full canopy mixed forests. The sights, sounds, smells... what an excellent break from urbania. Enjoy it Raleigh, this is a true treasure.

Great park for hiking 🥾 with a multitude of sights to see 👀. There is a waterfall of sorts near where sycamore trail enters its big loop that is a bit out of the way but a worth while trek. It has a good range of beginner and advanced trails but there could be more. Overall good and a must-visit if you are in NC

Amazing! Well marked trails, interesting history. Yes it's close to RDU and some spots you can hear the plans more then others but it's not bad. Frankly at one of the water fronts you can practically watch the plans take off. Was pretty neat. Beautiful scenery! No complaints.

This is one of the most beautiful park I have ever been to. I been there after my first time more then 50 times never get enough of this beautiful park, you need to be in shape to go there , it is a long walk and if you go biking 🚴 it take a good hours if you have a fast bike you can do it in 30 minutes if you not that fast it will be one hour to get out. It worth tt

Umstead park is a fun place to explore in Raleigh. We went with three littles. We parked and did the oak rock trail which is a .6 mile loop. Then we went to the next parking lot and took the trail that said 150 yards to Big Lake. We found a picnic table under a pavilion and ate lunch. Potts Branch trail looked fun as well. It’s a 1.3 mile loop. However, we decided to go and look for the chainsaw log art. To do this, park at the sycamore road parking lot. The trail is on your left. There are signs that lead you to the log art which is located on the Grayln multi use road. It’s about a mile trek round trip on big gravel roads. It is not a loop so once you see the log turn around and come back 😉. It’s the purple trail on the map in the picture. The chainsaw log is really cool. It’s starting to get eaten by bugs but is still cool to see.
Christina S — Google review
Went to Raleigh because my wife had a work type workshop, and I had like six hours to kill. I chose to spend my whole day here and absolutely loved it. Peaceful, beautiful, and fun trails. I got lucky enough to visit when I did because I was told the carved log was being taken due to it degrading. It was still beautiful. I would love to visit the park again and do other trails I missed out on.
Mike T — Google review
Free entry, the 2.8ish mile loop that starts/ends at the welcome center/ranger station has a good mix of relatively light-to-moderate terrain, and a lake to see (no area to walk around the perimeter of the lake per se). Short drive from the city center, a decent amount of parking spots, but I can see it be packed during peak hours.
Alex K — Google review
A beautiful park. Undisturbed by progress or development. Many miles of trails to enjoy on your own or with your dogs. The only criticism is that due to its close proximity to RDU, there is a lot of noise from aircraft overheard, but the dogs don’t seem to mind.

Mill
Historic Yates Mill County Park is a captivating wildlife refuge and agricultural-history site that revolves around an 18th-century water-powered gristmill. It was once a vital economic and social hub for Wake County residents, serving as more than just a milling facility but also as a communal gathering place. The fully restored mill now serves as the focal point of the park, offering educational programs, events, and exhibits that provide insight into rural life in the 18th century.
Lots of picturesque areas. Unpaved but relatively flat and manicured paths. Main path is covered in mulch for a low impact walk. Recommend doing the creek side trail. It’s got lots of raised wooden walkways over both dry and slightly boggy areas for a really unique hike. Be aware… no pets allowed.

First time went inside the mill. Fascinating to see how the mill work. The workers had great knowledge and answered all our questions. The trails have quite of few places that overlook the water views. And places where you could sit for for a picnic

Great day hike with an easy and moderate (green) trail to take. The green trail is through the woods. Out and back if you loop the trail is just shy of two miles for the green trail. There is a small museum are at the entrance with public bathrooms. The watermill is missing the wheel but it is a nice nature hike by the large pond with fish, birds, turtles and some other wildlife.

My friends and I love going to this park in the early morning, especially in the fall. It has such beautiful scenery, and it is in a great location right across Howling Cow Creamery! We have only taken the circle path to the left when you cross over the bridge, but hopefully next time we go, we get to explore more of the trails. The waterfall is beautiful and great for photos! I have seen many different people take graduation and family pictures during the times I have gone.

A beautiful park with many trails to walk in a natural environment. Park is maintained very well with picnic shelters, rest rooms and exhibits with many educational programs for students. One can go fishing here too. It's a natural retreat to relax with family and friends. Guided tours for.mills is organized over weekend and holidays also.

very picturesque place. They have a small indoor museum talking about the history of the park. The walk going up and down is a little steep (see 3rd picture) but do-able. Overall, would recommend visiting this place. Quite beautiful out there

Visited with my in-laws. The walk around the lake is family friendly. Unfortunately, pets aren’t allowed here but, it’s a great spot for picnics with kids and has several vista points along the trail. Having benches every few yards is a great convenience especially with the elderly. We missed exploring the education center as it closed at 5pm and we were there later in the day.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh is a popular attraction offering free admission and a delightful cafe. Visitors of all ages can explore exhibits on the state's geology, flora, and fauna, as well as fossil collections. The museum features 3D films, live-animal programs, and interactive experiences like the 'Investigate Labs' where visitors can embrace their inner scientist.
This museum is a fantastic experience for everyone, especially kids! It offers an engaging and educational environment where children can explore and learn about natural science in a fun and interactive way. From dinosaurs to space, wildlife to gems and minerals, there’s something here to spark curiosity in visitors of all ages. To fully enjoy everything the museum has to offer, plan to spend at least 4 hours. The exhibits are extensive and well-designed, encouraging hands-on learning and exploration. Make sure to check the schedule for the 3D cinema, as showings are held at specific times throughout the day and are definitely worth attending. One of our favorite parts was the live butterfly habitat. it's a magical experience to walk among so many beautiful, free-flying butterflies. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the facility was clean and well-maintained. No ticket is needed. Overall, it's a must-visit destination for families and anyone interested in science and the natural world!

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh is an absolute gem and a must-visit! When we went, they were hosting a special blue whale exhibition, and it was jaw-dropping. Seeing the enormous skeleton up close for the first time was unforgettable—it really gave us perspective on how massive and magnificent these ocean giants are. The museum has plenty more to explore, too. We loved roaming through the dinosaur exhibit, where life-sized displays and fascinating details bring prehistoric times to life. Standing next to those towering models was both humbling and exciting. One of the best parts is that general admission is donation-based, so you can explore the museum at no set cost, making it accessible for everyone. If you’d like to add something extra, they also offer 3D movies at a very reasonable price: $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, students, and military with ID, $4 for children, and $3 for members. It’s a fun way to dive deeper into science and nature. Overall, our visit was fascinating, family-friendly, and inspiring. We’ll definitely return to see future exhibits and enjoy more of what this incredible museum has to offer. Cheers! 🥂

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is the best science museum we’ve ever visited! The first thing that impressed me was that the entire main area is free — no tickets are needed to explore all four floors. You only need to buy tickets for special exhibitions or movies. I’ve never seen such a wonderful free science museum before! Out of appreciation, I bought tickets for all three movies and the Blue Whales exhibit for three people — and even with that, it wasn’t expensive at all, just a little over $90. The museum is so diverse and interesting that we spent the whole day there and still didn’t see everything. You definitely need at least two days to explore it fully. There’s a café on the 4th floor that was full of visitors. The menu doesn’t really offer much for healthy eaters, so we skipped it, but it’s a great spot for a quick snack, especially for kids. On the 4th floor there’s also a bridge that connects to another building of the museum — it opens up to a huge laboratory area that was amazing to see. We’re still impressed! The museum has two gift shop areas, but honestly, the museum itself is much more exciting and full of variety than the shops. There are restrooms on every floor, plus escalators and elevators, so it’s accessible for everyone, including people with disabilities.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is an amazing place to visit. There are so many interesting exhibits for both kids and adults, and the best part is that admission is completely free! The museum is clean, well organized, and full of fascinating displays about nature and science. Parking is also free on weekends, which makes it even better. Highly recommend for a family visit or a weekend trip!

The Raleigh Science Center is an amazing place for all ages! It’s packed with interactive exhibits that make learning fun and hands on. Right now, they have an incredible Blue Whale exhibit that’s definitely worth seeing. Whether you’re into space, biology, or technology, there’s something exciting to explore. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to help or answer questions. I especially loved the planetarium shows truly out of this world! Highly recommend visitors to Raleigh to stop by and boost their experience while you’re in town. Perfect for family trips or a fun day out with friends!
Justin K — Google review
Such an amazing place! It’s still a great time as an adult visiting with no kids so don’t shy away! Make sure you grab a map though, because this is a whole experience. There is loads to see and do here, so set aside 3-4 hours to fully go through the museum. It’s four stories, and two sides as well so work your way up one side and come down the other so as to not dart back and forth. Overall, I think you end up walking close to two miles so comfortable shoes are a must. There is so much care put into the exhibits and the science and working labs are just amazing to see. The gem and mineral section can’t be missed, the stones are GORGEOUS. This is a must if you’re interested at all in natural science. Loads of fossils, great explanations, and best of all it’s free!
Dallas M — Google review
Can't recommend this museum enough! Adults and kids found it engaging and could have spent many more hours there! Free entrance, family friendly, capitulating exhibits felt like a tour across NC. There's so much to explore! The discovery room was a great hit with the kids. The dinosaur lab was also special, paleontologist entertained all sorts of questions♥️
Talar K — Google review
The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is seriously one of my favorite spots in Raleigh. It’s an awesome mix of fun, learning, and just pure wonder—and the best part? General admission is free! The exhibits are super well done and cover a ton of different topics. You can check out towering dinosaur skeletons, see the gigantic skeleton of a blue whale, wander through realistic habitat displays, and even watch live scientists do their thing in the research labs upstairs. The butterfly conservatory feels like stepping into another world—it's warm and tropical, and there are so many colorful butterflies that sometimes one will land right on you! You can tell the staff and volunteers really love what they do. Everyone I talked to was friendly, super knowledgeable, and excited to share cool info. There’s a lot for kids to do, but it’s just as fun for adults. You can take your time exploring without feeling rushed, and there are plenty of quiet spots to just chill and soak it all in. If you’re in Raleigh or nearby, this museum is a must-visit. Whether you’re into science, looking for a fun family day, or just curious about nature, you’ll leave amazed—and probably already thinking about your next trip back!

The Raleigh Times is a popular establishment located in a historic building that once housed the headquarters of the influential newspaper of the same name. The bar offers a wide selection of Belgian beers, microbrews, and American pub food. The building has expanded over the years to include second-floor seating and a rooftop terrace with views of downtown Raleigh. The staff consists exclusively of Cicerone Certified Beer Servers, ensuring top-notch service.
I work a few blocks away from Raleigh Times, so when deciding who should host our private event, it was a no-brainer. Raleigh Times is consistently good regardless of the hour. Their staff is super attentive, the quality and variety of food is great, and who doesn't like a rooftop view? We'll definitely be back for work lunches and for future private events.

Stopped here for dinner while in town for the weekend. We were able to seat ourselves right away on a Saturday night. My husband got the southwest chicken wrap, my daughter had the Raleigh times burger, and I had the holy guacamole turkey burger. We had the fried pickle appetizer also. The food was good. The waiter was also the bartender so he was super busy and could not be very attentive. The atmosphere has an old town pub feel. It was very dark inside even though it was a bright summer day outside.

Downtown has so many great spots for food, and this one ended up being a surprising gem for us. There was an older man already inside who wouldn’t leave us alone, and it took our server stepping in to finally usher him out—it seemed like something they’ve had to do more than once. Kerry, our server, was kind and patient with our son, which we appreciated. The food was delicious across the board, and we liked the unique spin they put on some of their dishes. We’ll definitely give this place another visit and think it’s worth stopping in if you’re nearby.

Awesome atmosphere here. They had indoor and outdoor seating with Floor to ceiling glass windows. Inside was well maintained with neat ceilings. On the wall they had newspapers from back in the day. The food was great, and the service was even better! If you are in Raleigh, you need to stop here and grab a bite!

Loved this place! We were in town due to the comic con at the convention center. My kids and hubby enjoyed our meal here! We had the burger which was big and satisfying both my son and hubby finished everything my sister had the southwest wrap which was also very delicious! I had the flying Hawaiian chicken sandwich a great balance between sweet and savory 🤤. I tried two cocktails while there the peach sour whiskey and mango margarita the peach cocktail was my favorite ended up getting 2. Thanks so much for the great friendly service and amazing food!

The place is in a great location in downtown Raleigh. I have been there a few times and the food ok, I am sure you can find items on the menu that are better than others. I particularly didn’t like the Shrimp Po’boy too much, it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t delicious. The other plate was the Chicken Sand. With pineapple that my friend enjoyed. The service was excellent, very friendly and efficient, despite being so busy, which is a quality that helps customers return to a spot.

We had our Rehearsal Dinner here in August 2025 in the Main Floor Dining Room, and we were very pleased with the experience! The entire planning process with Kaitlyn was incredibly smooth, and Maddie was great for the day of service! The food was good, the staff was professional, and the planning was a breeze. Thanks!

Every time I go here, they tell me most food is pre-prepared, and cannot make any guarantees about my allergies. It makes my options limited to basically only the burger or the Cuban, which are good. The one time they made me baked Salmon off menu I felt it was a bit undercooked. I don’t really blame anyone but it sucks that so much is pre-prepared I can’t eat it.

It's a popular spot for locals to catch a game on TV while enjoying craft beer and lunch specials. Known for its signature burgers, subs, salads, and wings with unique flavors like habanero mango dry rub and kickin garlic grilled, it promises a memorable dining experience in a lively atmosphere.

We went and looked at a office space they had available for renting with the manager Mr Andrew and he show me 3 office space and I agree on taking one of those space to rent. He gave me the run around for the last 30 days with a bunch of excuses and lies I really believe it was racist profiling and didn't want to rent to a black company that's worth over 60 million dollars in annual revenue a year. This is the worst place for anyone of color to do any business with. Lie after lie. I will be taking it steps farther to expose this company.

Small historic market area. Some shops were closed, but the ones open had unique items. Cozy place to walk through.

First time going here and what got us choosing this place is that their ice cream is by Maple View Farms which apparently is known for their Antibiotic free, hormone free, from grass-fed cows ice creams. I love their Coffee and Cookies and Cream flavors. They were so good and are very flavorful. You can actually taste the Coffee! The shop is small but it makes up for the great tasting products they offer. If we're ever back in town, we're sure to come back there!
Cristina G — Google review
Has potential to be nice I guess, but a lot of the spaces were vacant. When we went (on a Saturday at noon) it was pretty dead which was surprising. The space itself is attractive but it didn’t have any vibes. Just a couple of stores, a couple restaurants, but not really any atmosphere of its own. We left after 5 minutes and went to Moore Park which was full of cops and homeless people. Unpleasant all around. Not sure why this place is advertised as a tourist location.

Nature & Parks
Pullen Park, established in 1887, is a historic and charming amusement park located in Raleigh. As the first public park in North Carolina, it offers a range of recreational activities for families and kids. The 66-acre park features a vintage carousel from 1911, a miniature train for rides around the area, and pedal boats on Lake Howell. Additionally, visitors can enjoy playgrounds, picnic areas, sports fields, tennis courts, an arts center and Theatre In The Park.
Pullen Park is a lovely, clean, and family-friendly place in Raleigh. It's truly a hidden gem! The park's gorgeous gardens and calm atmosphere make it a great spot for relaxing and enjoying nature walks. The variety of flowers and plants is amazing, and the peaceful vibe is perfect for getting away from the busy city life. The park has a fantastic mix of fun activities like the cute train ride, paddle boating, and the classic carousel — all at very reasonable ticket prices. It's free to enter the park! There are nice walking trails, and you can take a leisurely stroll around the pond. There are lots of shelters and play areas for kids with equipment and clean restrooms. The beautiful flowerbeds and landscaping create a very tranquil environment so close to town. We've visited this place countless times, and it's about time I wrote a review. The park has always been kept clean. I highly recommend visiting Pullen Park for a breath of fresh air!

I saved this location in maps to explore one day with my children and all I can say is WOW!! This park is absolutely beautiful! From the ground being well kept and fun to walk around to the different types of parks to play in based on age. We didn't get to experience the paddle boats because we arrived a little later than expected but the train and carousel were a lot of fun and only $2 a person, ya'll!! We're already looking forward to going back again soon... Thank you to all of the staff as well for being helpful and friendly when needed!

This park is so cute. You have a very cheap train ride for the kids. A nice quick loop around the water with a gorgeous fountain at the center and a couple of bridges crossing the water. There is some food and drinks too and a small playground as well. I believe they have paddle boats but only during the weekends and in good weather. Definitely a great place to go alone or with family and pets!

Pullen Park is such a charming and family-friendly spot in Raleigh! The park is beautifully maintained with scenic walking paths shaded by tall trees, plus a peaceful pond that makes for a relaxing stroll. It’s well organized and offers plenty of activities that children and adults alike will enjoy. We had planned to try the pedal boats, but since they’re only available on weekends, we opted for the train ride instead. The train was a delightful experience and a fun way to see more of the park while enjoying the breeze. Although the day was a bit too hot for us to stay long, we still had a wonderful time. On a cooler day, this would be the perfect place to spend hours enjoying the outdoors, picnicking, or simply exploring. Overall, Pullen Park is a gem in the area and a must-visit for families. We can’t wait to return! Cheers 🥂

Took my kiddos here who are 8 and 9. They did have a lot of fun. I’d say it’s geared more for younger. But they still had a blast! Road the train multiple times, played at the parks and did the carousel. We got lunch at the cafe, which everyone loved. Was very clean and well kept all over. We had fun just wondering and looking.
Rachel B — Google review
One of the oldest parks in Raleigh. Carousel, train, little boats to ride, Caboose, and paddle boats. Paddle boats are seasonal. Cafe with outdoor seating. Great place to spend morning or late afternoon. Nostalgia
Alisa B — Google review
We visit Raleigh frequently and had never been here. It was pretty crowded, but a well maintained park. We spent a couple hours here letting our kids play at the “big kid” playground and then we rode the train (only $2 a person, bought tickets online). Not sure if we would return though as my kids were a little “bored” from not having as many options to play on at the playground versus other ones but it was fun for that day!
Amanda B — Google review
Pullen Park is a beloved treasure in Raleigh, founded in 1887 by philanthropist Richard Stanhope Pullen, who drew inspiration from New York’s Central Park. As North Carolina’s first public park, his generous land donation created a free, welcoming space for everyone, a legacy that still thrives today. Over 150 years later, Pullen Park remains a vibrant heart of the community, where families create lasting memories. The miniature train ride, chugging through scenic paths, sparks joy in kids and adults alike, while the beautifully restored carousel spins out nostalgia with its hand-carved animals. Towering oak trees provide cool shade for picnics, playtime, or quiet moments, making it a perfect escape from summer heat. Playgrounds buzz with laughter, and winding trails invite leisurely strolls. As a Raleigh local, I feel immense pride visiting Pullen Park. It’s more than a park—it’s a living piece of our city’s history, blending nostalgia and joy. Whether you’re a family seeking fun or a visitor craving Raleigh’s charm, Pullen Park delivers warmth and wonder every time.

Beautiful place! We attended a wedding here and it was beautiful! The wedding was at 5 pm and it was super hot but the trees and foliage did provide some shade. The visitors center was nice The reception was held there. It was cool a safe haven from the heat. This is a lovely place, and I will definitely return just to visit. It's a great place to take professional pictures. There are so many different areas and flowers. Water features and all kinds of good things. This small arboretum is such a charmer. It’s a delightful place to take a walk and explore plants. Because it seeks to determine the viability of new introductions in our area it’s also great for professionals seeking to expand their plant palette. Besides, it has my favorite Japanese maple in the world. I was surprised to see the lathe house has been largely rebuilt, and the White Garden has a new fountain.

The North Carolina State Capitol, a Greek revival landmark completed in 1840, is the hub of state government activity. It features a grand rotunda and houses historical artifacts along with the Governor's offices. The building's architecture and historical significance make it an intriguing destination for visitors. Located in downtown Raleigh, it offers guided tours that provide fascinating insights into both the building itself and North Carolina's past.
A piece of living history which honors those who fought for American independence and defended freedom. Free to enter with a security checkpoint and free tours on Saturday at 11am and 2pm as of now. Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. There are precious memorials on the Capital grounds, a house chamber, and a fantastic colonial style library you can observe upstairs. Also a purified water fountain on the ground level, which I appreciated.

We achieved our 40th State Capitol here in Raleigh, North Carolina. Visited on a Saturday afternoon an was still open for visitors till 5 pm. It’s a functional Capitol with the Executive Branch having offices in the Building. The Senate and House of Representatives work out of a new Legislative Building down the street. Walking on all 3 floors gave perspective of the State Library, Geology room, House of Commons (House of Representatives) and Senate. Lots of important plaques to read.

We visited on the weekend so we only walked around outside. The statues and architecture are impressive. The detail of the Vietnam war memorial was very moving. The grounds are well kept with lots of shade trees. The grounds cover an entire city block. There were steps facing the street we entered from, I did not pay attention to whether there was wheelchair access but I’m thinking surely there must be on one of the streets.

I recently walked the trails of Hemlock Bluffs and was very impressed with several things. The new trail signs, new tree & site identification info posts, replaced lumber on the boardwalk, handrails and lookouts, excellent, easy to read map of the park in 2 strategic places, additional trash cans, clear instructions for visitors and their dog cleanup responsibilities, wide, mulched paths and clean restrooms. Uncle Walter and Aunt Emily Stevens would be VERY pleased to see their park so well taken care of and the steady stream of adults, kids, and dogs who fill the park from its daily opening until closing. Thank you very mulch. It's a jewel of a Cary park!!

Nature & Parks
Nestled near downtown Raleigh, the WRAL Azalea Gardens is a serene oasis that has been enchanting visitors since the 1950s. Originally established with a thousand vibrant azalea bushes, this picturesque garden has evolved into a beloved springtime retreat for locals and tourists alike. With its winding paths, shaded benches, and meticulously manicured lawns, it’s an ideal spot for leisurely strolls or delightful picnics.
Absolutely gorgeous! This is a beautifully landscaped garden with statues, fountains, and seating/picnic areas. Most of the azaleas were still in full bloom during my visit, though some were starting to wilt, so I think earlier in April is probably the sweet spot. There were several people having photos taken, and I think it would be the perfect place for special photos. There is plenty of parking, and the paths seemed manageable for people of all ages. The garden is much larger than I thought it would be, and really exceeded my expectations.

🌸 5-Star Review – A Hidden Gem in Raleigh! 🌸 The WRAL Azalea Garden is truly one of Raleigh’s most beautiful and peaceful spots. From the moment you step in, you’re surrounded by vibrant blooms, well-kept pathways, and a sense of calm that makes you forget you’re right in the city. The variety of azaleas, seasonal flowers, and shaded trees make it perfect for strolls, photos, or just a quiet moment of reflection. It’s also incredibly clean and well-maintained — a clear sign that the caretakers put a lot of love and effort into preserving its beauty. Whether you’re a nature lover, photographer, or simply looking for a relaxing escape, this garden is a must-visit. The WRAL Azalea Garden is not just a place to see flowers — it’s a place to breathe, recharge, and appreciate nature’s art. 🌺💐

I had a wonderful experience visiting WRAL Azalea Park last weekend with my family. It’s a beautiful, peaceful spot that’s open to everyone with no entry fee, which is a big plus! There’s ample parking available, making it very convenient. The park is best known for its gorgeous landscaped gardens filled with vibrant azalea plants and a variety of other colorful flowers. It’s a great place for a relaxing stroll, family outing, or even just some quiet time in nature. Everything was well-maintained and clean. Highly recommend visiting during bloom season—it's truly a hidden gem in Raleigh!

July 2025 I went about 2 weeks and I enjoyed myself there. Very pretty and both sides. I almost missed on the other half of the garden! The day I went I witnessed 2 photoshoots. One appeared to be maybe an anniversary/ wedding announcement and a graduation.

I went to the WRAL Azalea Garden in early October with a few of my classmates and it was really beautiful. Many of the flowers were still in bloom and stood out brightly against all the green. The garden is well maintained, and the paths make it easy to explore and take everything in. It’s a peaceful spot that feels tucked away from the noise of the city, even though it’s right in town. It’s a great place to relax, take photos, or just enjoy a quiet walk. I’d definitely recommend visiting, especially in the spring or early fall when everything is in bloom.
Lance F — Google review
I happened to come when nearly all the azaleas were past blooming. However, the gardens were still delightful with many other flowers in bloom and sculptural shrubs and trees of many kinds. Plus, the pathways are shaded by towering trees in many areas. This is very important in the heat of a southern state in late spring. I will certainly return in different seasons.

This was the second week of April 2025. Lots of free parking. Very beautiful. It was busy but the size of the place made it not feel crowded. There are restrooms. They are constructing another portion which is going to make this place even better.

Level7 is a sophisticated rooftop bar and cocktail lounge located at the AC Hotel Raleigh North Hills. Serving up small plates and cocktails, the spot has wonderful views of Raleigh's North Hills district. Named one of 2020's best bars by Best Bars, Level 7 is a must-go for anyone visiting the area.
Amazing experience! My fiancé did my surprise proposal here on Christmas Eve and it was absolutely magical. Management and staff went above and beyond to accommodate setting everything up and being able to do the proposal on their beautiful rooftop. Finishing with a glass of champagne at their gorgeous bar. I cannot recommend them enough. Date night, photo shoot, proposal whatever you need. This is the place to do it!

I forgot how terrible the customer service is here. 6 employees behind the bar. One guy nudges the girl to get off her cell phone to take care of us with only 2 other couples at bar. We asked for a drink menu and the girl rolls her eyes at us. Last time we were here, they were out of half the beers and wines, on a Thursday night. Come here for the view, not good customer service

Level7 Rooftop - Stunning Views, Misleading Vibes" My experience at Level7 Rooftop left me with mixed feelings. Situated atop a hotel, the stunning views initially promised an exciting night out to celebrate my birthday. However, the reality didn't quite live up to the expectations set by their website. The ambiance was more suited for an older crowd, resembling a 55+ club rather than the lively atmosphere I anticipated based on their online presence. The music felt bland, further emphasizing the mature vibe. As a bar, the food was average, leaning towards typical bar fare. The drinks, however, were well-made and enjoyable. Despite the mediocre offerings, the service was attentive, and our orders arrived promptly. The main redeeming factor was the breathtaking scenery. If you're looking for a place to appreciate the view while sipping on a well-crafted drink, Level7 Rooftop might be worth a visit. However, if you're seeking a lively atmosphere, this might not be the ideal destination. In conclusion, my experience at Level7 Rooftop was salvaged by the gorgeous views, but the overall ambiance and energy didn't align with my expectations or what their website portrayed. Their marketing team deserves credit for their presentation, but the reality left me somewhat disappointed.

My husband and I were guest at the hotel for a night to celebrate his birthday weekend. The bar is very nice, and drinks were good but, a few days later when I compared our receipt to my credit card statement there was an additional $70 charged. there weren't any gratuities added when I received my receipt, so I gave our waitress a $50 cash tip. I called the bar to speak with a manager and got the voice mail. I left a message and I'm waiting for a call back. I will update my review once I hear back from someone to resolve this issue.
Angel G — Google review
My wife and I were staying at the hotel and went up to the restaurant for a quick breakfast. When we got off the elevator there wasn’t a host/hostess so we stood around waiting. Eventually a hostess appeared and in a bothered tone pointed us to breakfast buffet and said to choose a table to sit at. We walked around three tables that had chewed food crumbs on plates and tabletop and finally got to a table that wasn’t soiled with partially eaten food. The hostess was very rude when mentioning we could order a la carte off a menu. Due to the rude service and unsanitary environment we decided to leave and get breakfast down the street. We will never return to Level7.

The park's one-square-block size makes it an ideal spot for casual photoshoots and family gatherings. Surrounded by great restaurants and a wine bar in the warehouse district, it provides a perfect blend of urban amenities and natural beauty.
Such a beautiful Park, It was nice and cool on that hot day, Clean and full of friendly squirrels, and a really tall sculpture of a of a squirrel holding an acorn you should really go see that and get a picture beside it, it was really cool. The statue of the fallen soldiers was really formative as well. Such a great family park!

Well placed park in central Raleigh with plenty of seating and trees to provide shade. Be sure to spend some time reading the memorial to fallen heroes. The park is large enough to stroll even if the city has an event drawing large crowds. Remember that city parking lots are free during the weekend as parking on the street can be difficult to find.

I only have one complaint clean up after your self and your pets. A good day turn sad when you're walking through the grass and steps in somebody's dog poop. Just imagine spread out a blanket and dog poop is in the grass unto your understanding. A good moment turn sad 😔..so please clean up after yourself and after your animals your pets and whatever else you might walk on a leash. LoL 😜

We love to explore cities, even if we're just passing through. We happen to drive around Raleigh every year we return to pine knoll shores. I love this mural in downtown Raleigh. I wish we had more time to spend here, it just has a great feel & I love all the green, inviting parks in the downtown area. We specifically stopped at the All Are Welcome mural at the same time the Raleigh Trolley parked in this location. Nestled near the vibrant North Carolina State University campus, Lake Johnson Park is a stunning outdoor haven that spans over 300 acres and encircles a beautiful 150-acre lake. This beloved recreational area boasts an impressive 5.4 miles of trails perfect for hiking, jogging, or cycling amidst the lush greenery and towering trees that provide a picturesque backdrop, especially during the fall season.
Beautiful park in the middle of town, it was only about 2 miles from the hotel I was staying at. The lake trail goes all the way around and it has several hills on one side. The bridge looked like a great place to fish.
Amanda S — Google review
Highly recommended. Has picnic areas and rentable room for events. Also has easy to moderate paved route suitable for walking, running, dog walking, cycling, or whatever else. The lake is beautiful and colors are amazing in the fall season. There is also possibility for fishing and kayaking. Parking is hard but there is another parking lot past the bridge. Pictures don’t do it justice!

Such a beautiful place! The lake is gorgeous and I saw three Great Blue Herons in one day. The walking trails around the lake are great, most of the path is paved and pretty wide. There is more parking on the other side of the bridge. The main lot gets fill really fast.
Aleks B — Google review
This park has both natural and paved trails. My favorite is the side with natural trails that include multiple trails through the more densely wooded area west of the Lake. If you take the main natural trail (Shoreline Trail) that connects to the unpaved Greenway Trail that wraps around around the north end of the Lake (boardwalk) then back to Avent Ferry Road, across the footbridge to the south parking lot, I record a distance around 2 miles. However, if you become familiar with the many secondary (unnamed) trails in the wooded area around the Shoreline Trail, one can easily garner over 2 miles in that section alone. That is what I like to do when I walk our dog on this section of trail. I like the woods, hills, nice views of the lake, and water birds. The shade on the trail is especially nice in the summer. The dog likes the paw-cooling water of the streams we walk through. The paved trail sections around the east and south part of the Lake are nice and I do enjoy them as well. All in all, Lake Johnson has nice trails that can be enjoyed by cyclists, runners, walkers, and strollers of all ages.
Robert H — Google review
My favorite park in the area to walk around. There is a very nice paved trail that goes all the way around the lake. You can see the lake fro. The majority of the trail. They also have kayak rentals through a third party. I always see wildlife here including two great blue herons.
Kara P — Google review
This was part of our morning walk on the Walnut Creek Trail starting from the Farmer's Market. The trail is beautiful, well maintained, and fairly flat. Our two-way 8-mile walk ended at Lake Johnson. The lake, beach, restroom, and grounds are well kept. We took a 15 minute break here to enjoy the site and view before trekking our return trip. If you haven't walked on this trail, give it try, you will enjoy it.
Michael A — Google review
Recently went to Lake Johnson Park for the first time, and it was a lot nicer than I expected. The trail I went on was about 3 miles long, and the scenery was so pretty. The trail is all paved and smooth, very nice to run on. We started at the parking lot and went clockwise around the lake. Towards the end, there were many steep hills, but at the end was the beautiful bridge over the lake! I highly recommend going to Lake Johnson in the fall, where there is a slight breeze in the air and all the trees are changing colors. It was so relaxing! (PRT 220)

Shelley Lake Park, situated in the northern part of Raleigh, offers a picturesque setting with approximately two miles of wooded trails alongside a scenic lake. The park features open fields, workout stations, and a playground, making it an ideal spot for couples who enjoy outdoor activities. The paved two-mile trail around the lake is popular among locals and provides stunning views of the water. With shaded areas along the loop, it's perfect for sunset watching and leisurely walks or runs.
Beautiful place to visit, get a good run in, get some peace of mind or just some fresh air. We went and filmed a music video and had no issues. The scenery was amazing and no one bothered us. I’m visiting from Florida and I will definitely make a trip back over here when I come back.

It was amazing. I'm in a powered wheelchair and there were a couple of places to go down the path because of the leaves making it hard to steer going down. The place is beautifulfrom views to wildlife. Very peaceful even with so much traffic near by.

Dear Neighbor, My sister invited me to walk with her at this lake and I wasn't disappointed. Mother Nature at her best and absolutely gorgeous! The scenery makes the time go by and of course, chatting with a friend or friends. I saw plenty of dog walkers, co workers, families with children and even elderly couples getting their steps in. Everyone was friendly, some did the acknowledgement thing and most kept to themselves. There was one guy playing music on his speaker for the world to hear (I guess there's always one of those). Some of the paths looked like I was walking through a jungle but with a paved path. Nothing like hearing rustling through the trees to get your blood circulating quicker to your feet (it may even be a good place to practice your horror film running)!! Basically what I'm saying is, goo already! It'll motivate you to walk and run and exercise and enjoy nature and scenery, all at the same time! Then, then, come back and tell us about it (us. The people on the internet. Duh). Have fun! - Ruthie

Really beautiful place to take a nice walk. Love that it's paved which makes it accessable for our daughter's wheelchair. There were other greenways connecting to the main loop around the park, and the main loop is a really easy walk with pretty scenery. We saw tons of deer and squirrels, and even took pictures of a bald eagle. We went in November. It was 66 degrees out, but the shade made it feel cooler than it actually was. Gorgeous fall leaves even after the peak, and I'm certain this will become one of our go-to places for getting our steps in.

Great place to walk; it's nice, peaceful, and spacious, you're not always walking right behind someone or someone is right behind you, but if so people are good about speedwalking by you real quick or you can speedwalk by someone real quick and have some space again. Gorgeous park for walking the dog or attending festivals (the monthly Geek & Grub events are great). The amphitheater is nice. My only complaint is that there aren't great restroom options. The portapotties are often gross. If the building is open, the bathrooms there are fine. The playground area is basically just a few swings, so not the best park for kids.

This rooftop restaurant is an absolute standout. The atmosphere is stylish and relaxing, with stunning views that make the perfect backdrop for any meal. The food was excellent, beautifully presented, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and the ambiance made the entire experience feel special. Whether you're celebrating or just enjoying a night out, this spot offers a perfect mix of great food, exceptional service, and unbeatable scenery. Highly recommend!

I recently visited this restaurant and was impressed by the overall atmosphere. It was very clean, welcoming, and had a great vibe. Our waitress was friendly and provided great service. The view was beautiful, and I loved that you have the option to dine inside or enjoy the rooftop seating. As for the food, it was a bit of a mixed experience. The cedar chicken salad was a little chewy, and the seasoning was quite overpowering. The chocolate torte dessert also had a strong flavor—more like thick chocolate pudding than a traditional dessert. However, the fries were tasty (though a bit salty), and the hamburger was absolutely delicious! One downside was the wait time for drink refills. It could take up to 30 minutes, depending on how many servers were available that day. Despite that, I’m definitely open to giving it a second chance. The atmosphere and some of the food were worth coming back for.

Atmosphere was superb and the food was delicious. I had the bbq bacon burger and the ginger island drink. The drink was a little watered down though. I wish there was more food option but besides that everything about this place is amazing. It's more of a lounge vs a restaurant. It was a little difficult to find at first bc it's located inside a hotel on the 7th floor. I would definitely be back. However, parking can be a hassle.

I recently hosted a party of six at the Willard Rooftop Lounge, and I can honestly say it was one of the most memorable evenings we’ve had in a long time. From the moment we arrived, the ambiance was nothing short of stunning, elevated views of the city, warm lighting, and a vibe that made you want to settle in and stay awhile. But what truly made the night exceptional was our server, Eric, easily recognizable by his signature mustache and unforgettable energy. Eric was phenomenal from start to finish. He guided us through the menu with enthusiasm, kept the drinks flowing smoothly, and somehow managed to make every one of us feel like VIPs. His recommendations on the adult beverages were spot-on, and the flatbreads and burgers were absolutely next-level, flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. On top of all that, Eric graciously took group photos for us when we asked. He didn’t just snap a shot; he picked fantastic backgrounds and angles that made the memories even more special. It was a night of fellowship, food, and fun, and Eric played a huge part in that. The Willard Rooftop Lounge is a true must visit in the city, and if you're lucky enough to have Eric as your server, you're in for a 10/10 experience. We’ll definitely be back whenever we're in town!

Amazing drinks and food . We had a group of 4 and each had a cocktail off the menu and some sharable appetizers and that was plenty of food for a light lunch . Her knowledge of cocktails and drink recommendations is impressive. I was unsure of what to order, but Daniela took the time to ask about my preferences and suggested a cocktail that turned out to be fantastic. She clearly has a deep understanding of mixology and takes pride in crafting each drink with care. What stood out the most was her efficiency and attentiveness, even during a busy night. Despite the crowd, Daniela managed to serve drinks promptly without compromising quality. She maintained a great balance between being quick and engaging with customers, ensuring everyone felt attended to. Moreover, Daniela's professionalism shone through in how she handled a slightly difficult customer with patience and grace. She diffused the situation calmly, ensuring the rest of the patrons could continue enjoying their evening without disruption. Overall, Daniela's exceptional service, friendly attitude, and expertise make her a standout bartender. I highly recommend experiencing her top-notch service firsthand. Cheers to Daniela for making the night memorable!

I have never had a bad experience with Daniela as a bartender. She is great with customer service, and seems very attentive. I came in on a slow night and she made the night with her welcoming personality! Definitely recommend coming and seeing her!

Nice, open, well decorated spot for drinks and snacks. Get the corndogs. All of the food was good, but eating corn dogs with your friends as an adult pairs nicely with a bottle of wine, or 3.

Poole's is a circa-1945 diner known for its seasonal comfort food, cocktails, and house desserts in a retro-chic setting. The daily specials are chalked on a board, adding to the vintage charm of the place. Created by Ashley Christensen, this diner offers Southern staples made with rotating seasonal farm-fresh ingredients. The cult-classic mac and cheese and reimagined comfort foods like pimento cheese with crostinis are some of the highlights.
What an excellent experience from the time we walked in. The server was great and explained the menu, took our order all at one and everything came out perfectly. They have a seasonal rotating menu, with a stable of southern side dishes. Definitely get the Mac and Cheese!! The flank steak was excellent, and this fish was on point. Reservations are a must.. Highly recommend Poole's.

Food is good, service poor. We waited 20 minutes for our reserved time, 15 minutes after they said they were just cleaning it up. Then the server took ten minutes to come by, said she would give us a “few minutes” to look at the menu. Nearly twenty minutes later (we tried to get her attention many times) she came to take our order. The attitude presented was as if I was bothering someone. We are simple sit down, order, eat, and pay people. We ended up being some of the last people in the restaurant because it took so long and we didn’t even order dessert. We used to come here for amazing nights out and really enjoyed the wine list. But I felt so bad this time I will just try the recipes from the cookbook. We come from the other side of the triangle. The service used to be amazing. The current hostess used to be our server and it was incredible. Maybe it was a fluke.

One of the best spots in Raleigh. The food is always absolutely perfectly balanced and cooked. The appetizers and sides are amazing. Can’t recommend the Bibb lettuce enough. Mac and cheese is great. You seriously cannot go wrong. Come with a few people and try lots of things. Great cocktails as well.

My husband brought me here for my birthday last month after I read a lovely blog post about it. The service was great and I enjoyed each of our dishes and they brought out a birthday candle. Fast forward to the night of the Teddy Swims's concert and there was an hour wait at another restaurant. We were able to get into Poole's last minute without a reservation and it made the night even better! I was also able to get a potato side substitution on my entree because squash hurts my stomach.

stumbled into Pooles thinking it was just a little “diner” tucked away in Raleigh. Turns out, I walked straight into a high-end spot that knows exactly what it’s doing. The vibe feels like a mix of old-school comfort and modern flair, with a service team that treats you like they’ve been waiting all week just for you to show up. The menu isn’t your average lineup—it’s built around creativity and ingredients you’re not going to find on every corner. But let’s be real, the showstopper here is the legendary macaroni. Imagine the cheesiest, creamiest dish you’ve ever had, then turn the dial up about three notches. It’s so rich and delicious it almost demands applause after the first bite. That said, it’s definitely heavy, so unless you’ve got bottomless stamina, you’ll probably be boxing some up for later (and trust me, you’ll be glad you did). Pooles surprised me in the best way—unique food, polished service, and that signature mac that basically owns the spotlight. I walked in expecting “diner,” but walked out knowing I’d just eaten at one of Raleigh’s best kept open secrets.

Usually I choose who I review based on the food at the restaurant , but this review is for the amazing service we received. We went on a Tuesday evening around 6:30 and the restaurant was busy. When we ordered, the waitress/server told us our meals would t take about 30-35 minutes. I'm sure you know where this is going. It took over an hour for our food to come out. Since you can see into the kitchen, we could tell something had gone wrong. Throughout our wait the server and the manager were communicative and apologetic. They really did care about our experience. Every restaurant will have an off night, but the way they recovered, means that I will be back another night. Food was pretty good, but even after all of the waiting we still had to send one plate back. So I will reserve my review for food for the next time i visit.

Fred G. Bond Metro Park, nestled in Cary, NC just outside of Raleigh, is a sprawling 310-acre recreational haven. The park boasts a picturesque 55-acre lake where visitors can enjoy fishing and boating activities. Additionally, the park offers an array of amenities such as playgrounds, picnic shelters, athletic fields, and hiking trails that wind through wooded areas and open fields. For those seeking more adventurous activities, there's a challenge course available for group reservations.
A mid-large sized park with plenty of running/biking trails and a lake with easy access for rafting (which can also be rented at the boathouse). The lake trail is nice (a 2 mile loop that goes through around the lake and through some hilly, knobbly terrain). Parking for easy access to trails is available at the community center and the boathouse (which also has a nice boardwalk + picnicking area)

Really fun park! There’s two separate playground areas (little kids and big kids), it’s shaded nicely during most of the day, and within walking distance of the playground you can get to the lake! There’s also a sand pit by the playgrounds that gets good shade and lots of trails to walk.

Cemetery
Sights & Landmarks
Oakwood Cemetery, established in 1869, is a historic 72-acre burial ground that serves as the final resting place for over 22,000 notable individuals. The cemetery is adorned with ornate tombstones and intricately-designed mausoleums, creating a park-like setting filled with memorials and statues.
Robin gave me a tour on a perfect fall day. I truly did not expect to feel so energized after seeing a cemetery, but she brought the entire place alive for me and connected so many of her "residents" to real life history. It felt like I was touring a fascinating museum instead of a cemetery. Robin gives the residents of her "town" (population 25,0000) a voice through understanding their history. She helped to connect their individual lives to stories I could understand and identify with. I'm excited to now possess a copy of the book she and Bruce Miller wrote detailing a history I feel very much a part of, having grown up in the Triangle area myself. I'm also impressed to know that the cemetery is far from full and offers green burials in a beautiful section in the back, along with traditional burials, cremation plots, and 2 mausoleums. Having lived in Cambridge, MA for several years enjoying long walks at Mt. Auburn cemetery, I'm sure I'll be back to enjoy the trails and monuments here and explore the history of the individuals who quietly reside at Oakwood.

My parents are interred at the mausoleum. With permission, my family and I have utilized our own funds to enhance the mausoleum garden area in the front by planting flowers and decorating the space. Unfortunately, someone has removed all of our additions. As we are not local residents and must drive several hours to visit the mausoleum, this incident is particularly distressing, because we have worked hard to decorate it. The stolen items include all kinds of decorations, solar lights, planters, shepherd's hooks, flag, and flag stand. We are uncertain as to who is responsible, but we sincerely hope that they get caught. Apparently, theft has been an issue, and it is disheartening to know that individuals would remove items from a cemetery. As a result, and the main purpose of this review, is for families to be aware that decorations may be stolen from anywhere in the cemetery. Our intention for the mausoleum was to create a more welcoming atmosphere, as the area was in need of improvement, and we believed that others would also appreciate the enhancements. I have assigned a rating of 4 stars due to the kindness of the ladies in the office; otherwise, the rating would be lower. Although the cemetery is historic and could be quite lovely, we have not been entirely certain it’s right for us. We aspire to experience happiness and serenity during our visits and have considered exploring the possibility of relocating my parents.

I lived on North Bloodworth st for ~7 years and would walk to the necropolis several times/year. It felt otherworldly and detached from downtown Raleigh (only half mile away, St. Augustine’s borders on the east and busy routes everywhere surrounding) and all of the gentrified chaos close by. Unexpected treasure…

This place is stunning!!! We are new to the area and wanted to see this cemetery around fall/Halloween time. We read about Etta so she was our main reason for going but we found so many other beautiful graves. I love the mausoleums. The grounds are beautiful all while being a bit ‘spooky’ we took a bunch of pictures and Bri even stopped us to see if we needed any help finding anything. She told us about Etta and Prikyl. So neat to hear from someone who works there! Will be back next year to see the grounds again!

My mom passed away 10/6 and I was absolutely lost and had no idea on how to proceed. Robin and Bre, went above and beyond to make this transition as smoothly as possible. Robin’s knowledge of the history of this beautiful cemetery brought me so much peace and comfort. We opted for a green burial, and I am overjoyed that Historic Oakwood was able to make my mom’s final wishes become a reality. I will never be able to thank Robin, Bre and the grounds men enough for their comforting hugs, compassion, and genuine kindness. I know my sweet momma will be well taken care of! ❤️

While I personally would have stood with the North, (I hope), I did find my 3rd great-grandpa was buried in the cemetery. My mom and aunts and uncle, (7 girls & 1 boy), had no idea he was there. For mom's birthday my daughter and I took her to find him. The cemetery is well maintained and divided into different battles where NC soldiers were lost.

Restaurant
Lynnwood Grill & Brewing Company is a popular spot known for its pub grub, house-brewed drafts, and live music. The slick sports bar features TVs, a roof deck, and patio where visitors can enjoy great food and craft beer while soaking in the relaxing atmosphere. Established in 2004 in West Raleigh, it has become a local favorite with its delicious pizzas and sandwiches. The brewery's dedication to quality is evident in every flavorful beer they brew.
The buffalo dip appetizer is delicious and the sampler have great portions for a whole table! We couldn't even finish it. As always the food was great, especially with people who have a craving for bar food like we did. They have a great selection of beer and the restaurant is always clean with great service. I've been here a hundred times and will definitely keep coming!

Stopped in on a Monday evening, with family, for some dinner. Our meal consisted of the pretzel bites and fried pickle chips for the appetizer. We had an order of sweet and sour wings, extra hot wings, a buffalo chicken wrap, and an orange and blue salad with raspberry dressing. I tried two of their on-tap hazy IPA's, and family had some home-made root beer. The beers were fantastic, and the root beer was delicious if you are a root beer fan. The appetizers, salad and wrap all received excellent comments from family that ordered them. The wings were cooked perfectly, nice and crispy, but here is my feedback on them: Sweet and sour was oddly very oily and didn't have much flavor. (See picture for reference) I honestly thought they brought me naked wings until I saw the oil in the bottom of the plate. The extra hot were decent, but also lightly coated. If these wings had the amount of extra hot sauce at the bottom of the plate as the sweet and sour, it would have made them much better (I prefer my wings lightly swimming in sauce). The extra hot seemed to be a low heat. Not hot enough to make you need to drink or feel like your lips or tongue was on fire, for those of us that regularly eat hot wings and love the burn... Overall, we enjoyed the atmosphere and service was excellent! We will be recommending to other family to give it a try as well, and I'll likely stop back in for some more delicious beers and try something else on their pretty robust menu.

First visit was awesome! Waitress was very nice and burger was not overcooked, pink and flavorful. Five star visit! Second visit, opposite experience. I asked the waitress a question and she said “I just work here” and when I ordered a burger medium, I was told medium-well or well-done only. I replied “that’s odd” being last time the burger was medium. Manager confirmed they only cook burgers MW or W and “that yours was just randomly undercooked last time.” So..for an almost $20 burger, that would be a no-go. Barely a one star visit.

Ordered takeout. Very disappointed for many reasons. $31 for a burnt pizza??? Also ordered pretzel bites and the cheese “dip” was so thin and watery, it spilled on the way home (see photo). Have never had such a mess. Also, guy at take out counter made a big deal about opening up every single one of the boxes to show that the correct food was prepared but when I had to use one of their grimy 2 pens to sign my receipt, I asked for hand sanitizer and they couldn’t find any. So, if your employees have none to keep their hands clean, don’t go opening up all my food boxes! That is so unsanitary!!!!!!

I got the firehouse burger-it said extra hot sauce but it's not really hot at all (I'm Indian so maybe it's just my taste pallette) it tasted very fresh! My husband got the angus burger and he liked it. Loaded fries were awesome!!! House made chips were a nice addition to the burger. Also, my husband recommends putting the loaded fries in the burger Lol Nice little spot to sit outside and enjoy the weather and relax.

What a great Monday afternoon stop. Had the wings and ask for extra crispy and they were perfect and I love wings naked. Their amber beer is a breath of freshness. Our waitress was on point with her recommendation. Light refreshing with a great finish.

I hate to say it. I came in for a burger and a beer....good beer, bad burger. You guys have to do the burger right. It was a dry and hard thing. Thankful for lots of ketchup. I was on a deadline to get to a movie across the street so I ate and left. ADDED...Upon reflection overnight, Lynnwood spends a lot on brewing good beer. Hamburgers are just as important a flavor experience. "Hamburger and Beer". It's Americana. You can find people stopping for a hamburger in John Steinbeck's novel "The Grapes Of Wrath", set in the depression.

Nature & Parks
Lake Crabtree County Park, located between Cary, Morrisville, and Raleigh, is the first county park in the Raleigh area. It offers 16 miles of hiking and biking trails that wind through the woods and around a 520-acre lake. The Lake Trail is a six-mile loop that takes hikers close to the water's edge at times and farther into the woods at others.
We loved our visit to Lake Crabtree. We visited to see the sunset. You can view from many spots across the water. There is pier for fishing. There is a spot from which you can rent boats. There is a volleyball court and a large grassy area. There are two parking areas. The first has a small pebbly surface. We were on a motorcycle so not great. The second parking lot is for the pier and is paved. Public restrooms are available. There is a small building that you can climb to second story for another view of the lake. Highly recommend this park. It is truly beautiful and well cared for.

Did not feel welcomed. I enjoyed a long walk around the lake. I had lunch at a picnic table overlooking the lake. It was lovely. I went back to my van to relax and read a book. Since the lot was empty I moved to a corner, yes I was taking up 2 spots so my side door could look out at the woods. If people started to arrive I would have moved back to normal parking. I'm only 19 feet long and fit in a parking space. A woman came to my door and rudely said "excuse me, you need to move, this is event parking and there's going to be an event later." I said ok I'll be leaving in a little while. She said "you need to move to the RV parking lot you can't stay here" I ignored her. I never saw signs for "RV parking" and I'm really just a van. She definitely ruined my peace and tranquility I was having at your park.

There is a net for volleyball. I have been there several times, including on weekends, but there are always not many people, it is very comfortable to relax. Only one drawback is the snakes, you have to be careful. Thanks to the staff for keeping order in this park. I definitely recommend it!

Moore Square in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, it’s a place of the historic history dating back to 1792, it was a public gathering so it’s an iconic place. The significant place has and now been refurbished to what it is now, a pleasant square open SQUARE space, it encompasses lots of green space, lots of well maintained shrubbery, it has lots of interesting touches like the hopscotch mat , a ping pong table a little seating auditorium, it also encompasses a eatery called Square Burger which I didn’t sample however it comes highly recommended, not forgetting the enclosed dog park for the four feet little doggies to do their exercise. So Moore Square is a place to relax and watch the world go by in the comfort of lovely green iconic place.

When Moore Square was first opened up, it was filled with people playing frisbee and a giant chess set. Now it's filled with nothing but homeless people throwing uppercuts at bike racks.
Corey B — Google review
It's one of Raleigh's newest public parks. They hold special events, craft fairs, and weeknight movies in the park, and they have fun games available for everybody to enjoy. And it has a slide and a splash pad, so it's great for families and kids. What's not so great is around 5 o'clock in the evening, that's when the homeless start to arrive. It's not that we don't feel safe. It's just clear that it's not a family place anymore.

I was just in the park and I was listening to my reggae music at a low tone.. A racist security officer told me that I have to shut off my MONKEY MUSIC or leave the park! I asked him why he was attacking my culture when I come here alot when I'm working in Raleigh NC. I live in Fayetteville NC and not once in 23 years has anyone ever said anything to me that was so evil and mean. Then I asked him why he's harassing me because he's not police or even law enforcement and why not bother the people using drugs and yelling. His older partner said because people like me are confusing people and we're forgetting our place!! I picked up my phone and I started to record them both and they both got silent!!! Then when I got up to throw away my lunch that had been ruined the younger one started walking towards me with a pepper spray can. He said that if I didn't stop recording and leave that he would give me a real reason to be upset! I left an I definitely plan to take legal action against them both! It's 2025 and love runs Raleigh not hate! They shouldn't be there with that kind of attitude, that's why men and women if color are getting killed everyday!!! This is not ok, I don't disturb the peace and I never cause trouble! If they can't leave that racist stuff in the past. They don't need to be security! They're putting people in harms way! They're not police and freedom and speech and fellowship is a right! I wish I could post my video here but I'm definitely not letting this go!!!

Moore Square is truly one of the best spots in Raleigh and has something special for everyone. The park itself is beautifully designed with plenty of open space, shaded areas, and well-kept grounds that make it perfect for a walk, picnic, or simply relaxing. There are fun games and activities set up around the park that families and kids love, which adds to the lively and welcoming atmosphere. The surroundings are vibrant, and on many days you’ll find a variety of food trucks offering delicious options that really enhance the experience. Beyond visiting as a guest, I’ve also had the privilege of being a vendor during events at Moore Square. The energy here is always so positive, and the community support makes it one of the most rewarding places I’ve ever participated in as a vendor. Nice public square..especially after the remodel. Lots of grass, a water feature and close to downtown, Marbles and restaurants. Lots of homeless people so I can’t really give it 5 stars. Always see a lot of people doing yoga on the weekends and it seems like they events out there too.

Well maintained by City of Raleigh Parks department. Playgrounds for kids, and at least two different C's are parks. Nice lake where you can fish.

I found the trails really nice to walk with your family, friends or just with your dogs. It’s a 45 minutes trail. Maybe more or less, depending the way you take. It’s safe(I didn’t see wild animals, snakes etc) and you have a nice lake where you can see some ducks, birds and turtles. There are some streams too. Parking close to the lake and you can rent a hut/cabin or just bring your hammock and have a relaxing nap close to the lake. You can also find a park with games for kids and fishing area. It’s a

I love the trail around the lake. Beautiful park, awesome ACTUAL hiking trails (no asphalt sidewalks), plenty of shade, just an all around good walk.

My young daughter, small dog and I went for a good walk on the trails that were scenic and clearly marked. Also stopped at the play ground which was small but fun! The park has a public bathroom which is a HUGE bonus. And even though it was January we got to see some cool plants and a few forms of wild life.

Now this is a way to be with nature. To just walk around and see the lake, etc. was peaceful. My kids really enjoyed that so much that they didn't even care about going to the park that was there. As you walk the trails, the trees will be marked with a colored diamond (each trail has a different color). But the walk was gorgeous with the fall leaves. Will definitely come back especially to see how it looks during the warmer months.

The Contemporary Art Museum of Raleigh is a modern art gallery that showcases changing exhibitions of contemporary artwork from around the world. CAM Raleigh is located in downtown Raleigh and has 20,000 square feet of space to house its collections. The gallery does not have a permanent collection, but instead relies on donations and grants to bring in new and exciting exhibitions of contemporary art every year.
Although the museum was small, at least admission was free. I noticed that all of the paintings on display were created by artists who are from North Carolina which adds a local touch to the typical art museum.

Great museum with local, contemporary art, and admission is free, but they do accept donations. Parking in the area can be a challenge. Close to Raleigh Union Station.
Alisa O — Google review
I was excited to visit this museum but sadly they were closed for a private event. I'm rating with 1 star, not because they were closed but because no where on the website or Google did it say they would be closed. When I went in person, outside the door there was a sign that read "private event" but did not indicate if they were closed for the private event or if that was just the location of the event along with the museum since I know museums tend to rent out some parts of thier spaces due to free admission. We entered and were asked what we were there for... They said they were closed... No big deal but would have appreciated the heads up since I was traveling and would not be able to visit at another time. Next time just be a little more clear of being closed and utilize your platforms.

Wonderful local contemporary art space. It is a bit small but, the space is very intimate and allows for a lot of contemplation and conversation. I definitely enjoyed the experience. Located downtown so parking can be a bit tight at times. Definitely worth a visit if you want to engage with some interesting works in a wonderful local space.

My children took me to this art museum as part of my Mother’s Day celebration yesterday. It is free admission and they accept donations. It is a walk-in, no reservations required. There are two levels to this museum. The artwork in there is deep and thought-provoking. I believe they rotate different artists at different times. There are a few areas where you can sit if needed. What I enjoyed about this art museum besides, the art of course, is that they give not only biographical information about each artist, but they also provide an overview of that artist’s style and a summary of the collection of art that is being presented for that artist. The atmosphere is serene and conducive for an art museum. Everything is spaced out nicely to give room to multiple people viewing at the same time. The building is also maintained at a good temperature.
Arvian D — Google review
My daughter & I were in the area doing a bit of vintage shopping when we saw the neon signs and decide to step inside to see what it was all about. We were pleasantly surprised to find out it was free admission (thanks to generous donations) and there were several exhibits to check out. It's a very well laid out museum with plenty of room to roam around and step back to admire the art without bumping into others. The two or three exhibits on display were very provocative and it was nice that the artist actually provided some pieces that were interactive so we could literally get a feel for her works of art. We will definitely be stopping by again. Friendly reception as soon as we entered and ascended the stairs, she thoroughly explained what was available to see. Definitely a nice place to bring locals and visitors alike!

CAM was very fun, lively, loved the art. There were a few areas getting ready for a new exhibit so I will definitely be back to check it out. I had a great time, and anyone living in the Raleigh Area should check this place out! There is some places around to stop to eat for lunch afterwards if you want so it’s also I nice date idea.

Additionally, the park offers fishing spots with beautiful views of Falls Lake. It is also home to educational exhibits showcasing its commitment to conservation and environmental education.
This is one of my favorite parks in the Raleigh Area. It’s large and has times when there might be a lot of visitors but at the same time everyone has room. There are trails, beach-like shores,a large lake, and small islands. It’s a nice daycation spot if you want to get away for a few.

SWEET PLAYGROUND! I believe it’s a very similar copy of the one at Crowder County Park, which is also a sweet playground as well. We originally visited maybe 4-6 months ago, and the playground area was under construction…Good to see this playground finished snd completed! I love how the entire area was layed out, all the creative ways to climb up to the second level, or even the third level to go down one of their super slides. Great playground for ANY age kids. 😁👍 UPDATE: WALK ON THEIR HIKING TRAILS IN THE WOODS!!! There is a SUPER COOL rock area right next to the water! Ya gotta walk five min back into the woods to get to it, but it is so beautiful!

I really like Blue Jay Point County Park. It would be a five star if there was a swimming beach. Otherwise it has a lot to offer: hiking trails, visitor center, educational gardens, open field for play, picnic shelters, and a private business called Go Ape, a tree top zip line that to my knowledge is the only one in Wake County.

Fantastic place to go for a walk! And to take photos and see birds! As an avid birder I was like oh well that's a cute name and figure I wouldn't see many birds but I did and was very happy. I also saw alot of squirrels and two deer. Deer in North Carolina are oddly unafraid of people or she just didnt mind my taking a selfie with her either way it was awesome I had a nice walk and enjoyed myself. Once you get away from the parking area and the people of course lol

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Gardens in Raleigh, North Carolina is a peaceful and serene place where visitors can come to reflect on the civil rights leader's life and work. The gardens are also home to a bronze statue of King, as well as a 12-ton granite monument that commemorates the lives and achievements of notable local civil rights pioneers.
The monument was quite beautiful and along the walls the famous and inspiring words of MLK were carved into stone. Reading them really gave me a sense of who he was. The location and the actual monument itself are quite pretty. The statue is quite impressive too.

Nestled within 89.6 acres of natural beauty, Anderson Point Park is a delightful escape for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. This park boasts a variety of unique features, including diverse wildlife habitats, the historic Anderson Family Homestead, and scenic canoe areas. A paved loop trail meanders through the park, making it ideal for leisurely strolls or invigorating bike rides while soaking in the serene surroundings.
A beautiful park to walk, bike, or run through, with access to the Neuse River, wide open fields, picnic areas, wildflower meadows, a historic landmark house, a playground and sculptural benches. The trail includes a repair station for bikes. The playground is best suited for younger kids; my 10 year old complained that it was too small for him. But it's such a beautiful park that I still rate it 5 stars.

I've been wanting to visit this park for ages and I'm so happy I did. It is beautiful, expansive, and easy access to the Neuse River Trail, and I love the bench swings. I didn't rate it 5 stars because, unfortunately, it is right by the freeway, and the car noise is quite loud. It's worth a trip, though, and as you go deeper into the trail, the noise does subside.

It’s a nice area for a date or picnic 😊. I think you’d be very pleased to visit this outdoor space .

I appreciate how well maintained the park is. The bathrooms are pretty clean. I also appreciate that the parking lot also has free electric vehicle charging. Very convenient and thoughtful. The fact that this park connects to the Neuse river trail which intersects with many others allows riders to go for many miles uninterrupted.

Beautiful park with lots of walking trails that connect to the greenway. The playground is decent, with a massive sandpit. There's also a nice shaded area with porch swings by the playground. Saw lots of wildlife as well (including three black snakes). I took off one star because there are a ton of fire ant hills all over the park, so you really have to watch where you step. The bathrooms were clean and stocked also.

The staff there were quite helpful and responsive when we asked questions or requested more air flow in little room. The homemade refreshments at intermission were an unexpected delight. They gave me a bit of insight into the upkeep of the exterior landscaping.

This place is fantastic! I will start by saying I was fortunate enough to dine here because this restaurant has an excellent reputation and is MEMBERS ONLY. I only say that because you won’t want to just show up and expect to be served, do some homework and find a way in because it is totally worth it. From the Cotton Candy Bacon to the Beer Chicken Breast to the Pimento Cheese burgers this restaurant has the most creative and delicious food. Full bar and the manager and waitstaff are some of the most knowledgeable people I have met when it comes to wine and liquors. This is a must dine place if you can make it happen! no dogs allowed. Enough said. Weird to not allow dogs in nature where actual animal live daily....but that is their rules. So be it. But wanted to warn people that not only are they NOT dog friendly, they are almost anti-dog, and that also says a lot about the people in charge of this park as well. There are way too many much more beautiful and safe places that welcome your furkids to go to, so just be aware. Also, I did choose to stop by on my own and attempted to check the place out beforehand anyways, as I usually do. There were obvious drug users tweaking on the trails... I left fairly quickly. Please be safe if you go here in the middle of the week as a female or with kids, Carry protection if you do choose to go.

Bailey and Sarah Williamson Preserve, a 405-acre nature sanctuary in southeast Wake County, opened to the public in late 2020. The preserve features nearly a dozen miles of walking and mountain biking trails that meander through forests, fields, and working farmland. Once owned by the Williamson family for over two centuries, the land was used for tobacco farming and later cattle ranching.
This is a lovely spot to hike or even bicycle. Lots of trails to choose from. We like the two-pond loop to walk (about 3/4 mile one way). Well-kept trails with a couple spots near the ponds to take a moment to enjoy the scenery. They have some old farm buildings to see (no entry into buildings). If you have dogs, be sure to bring bags to pick up after them.

The trails are fantastic for mountain biking. It's fast and gets progressively more difficult (although not bad). Magnolia adds a bit more climb and Lily keeps you honest with the most up/down work. It's a directional trail that switches mid-week (just read the signs). Hikers go opposite bikers so it's easy to see each other. The only problem is the trail steward that opens/closes the trail seems to be absent on occasion and the trail will be closed when it's completely dry and has been for days.

Overall very good mountain bike trails. Simple and easy single tracks to a little bit more intermediate challenges. I do wish there were more difficult features or trails for advance and expert level riders.
William B — Google review
Another terrific Preserve by TLC. Seven miles of one way shared mountain bike/hiking trails. One foot traffic only 0.9 mile loop around two small ponds. Trails are a great mix of meadows, pine forest, creek crossings and hardwoods. Trail connects to the Clayton River Walk Greenway (about 3.5 miles from the parking area). Closed when wet. Parking area is tiger tight, no privy and no parking along the roadway.

Nestled in the heart of Raleigh, The Grove is a delightful 16-acre retreat that offers visitors a chance to unwind amidst nature. With its shaded hillsides providing stunning views of the city skyline and expansive grassy areas perfect for play, it’s an ideal spot for family picnics or leisurely strolls along the Rocky Branch Greenway. In winter, thrill-seekers flock here for some of the best sledding around!
I visited The Grove this past weekend and was really impressed—especially with the pool area. The vibe was super relaxing and welcoming. Even Preston, the pool maintenance guy, stood out for being incredibly nice, accommodating, and professional. It’s clear he and the current team take pride in the property. The grounds are now well manicured and maintained something that was definitely lacking under previous management. The improvements are noticeable and meaningful. Because of the positive changes, I feel confident and comfortable having my mom move in. In fact, we’ve already decided—she’ll be moving in within the next two months! I truly believe The Grove is a great place for her to call home. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re looking for a well-managed, peaceful community with a great team.
Athena D — Google review
I moved here four months ago from out of state, and I’ll admit—I was nervous after reading some of the negative reviews. But I’ve been pleasantly surprised by my experience so far. The rent is affordable, and the location is very convenient for me (I’m not a student). The leasing office staff, especially Vicky and Lupe, have been incredibly kind and professional throughout the entire process. Moving in was smooth and hassle-free. Like many others, I was concerned about the comments on infestations, so I took precautions before settling in. I’m happy to say I’ve had no issues—no bugs at all. Maintenance has also been great—quick, professional, and helpful whenever needed. The only downside is the quality of the paint job; it’s definitely on the cheaper side and marks easily. That said, my carpet is new and looks great. Coming from where I used to live, I’ve seen much worse. For me, this place isn’t just an apartment—it’s the first step on a new path. A stepping stone toward something better, and so far, it’s been a good one.
Lena H — Google review
This apartment complex has been one nightmare after another. Our apartment flooded several times when we first moved in and not only was the damage to my property not covered by renters insurance because of the nature of the flooding, but also we were verbally promised a rent concession by the apartment manager that was never fulfilled because we got a new property manager. Further, our front door isn't mounted straight so there's a huge crack at the bottom for bugs to get in, and our washing machine has been broken since the beginning of August and they still haven't fixed it. The whole property only has 1 maintenance person right now, which is down from the usual 2, which still isn't enough and the management company won't let them hire more than 2. The policy is apparently 1 maintenance person per 100 Apts which is absolutely BONKERS for an aging apartment complex. Save yourself the headache and look for a different place to live.
Alexus P — Google review
I've had a great experience living here! Vicki and Lupe in the office are incredibly welcoming—every time I stop by, they greet me with a smile and are always willing to help. They truly make the community feel like home. The maintenance staff is just as impressive: responsive, professional, and quick to resolve any issues. On top of that, the location is unbeatable—close to everything I need and in a great neighborhood. Highly recommend!
Alice H — Google review
I’ve been living here for the past year and I love it. Lupe and Vicki who work in the leasing office are AMAZING, they’ve been so helpful and so nice I truly love living here. The bad reviews seem to be from the previous management who were here before Lupe and Vicki, but since my time here I have zero complaints. It is an older community however they always maintain the property clean and up to date with landscaping. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for an apartment to live in Raleigh NC.
Lucy E — Google review
Shout out to Vicki Watson, Property Manager. I am a Realtor and I stopped by this apartment community on behalf of my client. I met with Vicki and her customer service, professionalism and knowledge of the property and area was impeccable. I would rate the showing of the apartment as Excellent. The apartment price was very comparable to the surrounding area. My client is looking for short term rental which was not available but other than that, this community is definitely a contender.
Tomi T — Google review
I recently toured the property with my niece who will be attending NCSU nearby. We decided to lease due to the proximity of the airport and most of all the price. Vicki was very informative and gave us all the information we needed to know about the property as well as amenities. Vicki‘s customer service was excellent she made my niece feel so comfortable knowing she’d be living alone for the very first time. 5 star customer service I would refer anyone to this property.

This experience was horrible! I was told last minute that my unit won’t be ready less than 24 hours of me picking up my keys. Was given the same unit for $55 more a month. Because i would be homeless otherwise. They claim it’s and upgraded apartment but the fridge self is broke. The stove got stains on it, the pantry door is hanging off. The paint is horrible and the floor is uneven and squeaks when i walk thru the house. Was giving this unit on a last minute notice and had to pay more for it.

The Free Expression Tunnel at NC State's campus is a unique space where students are allowed to freely express themselves through graffiti. This underpass, which connects the university's north and central campuses, has been designated as a graffiti-friendly zone since the late 1960s. It has become a canvas for student voices and an emblem of free speech, sparking debates about the boundaries of expression.
This is an awesome thing to see on a university campus. My organization give our prospective members the opportunity to bond with each other while painting the tunnel one night each semester. As an alum just watching, I enjoyed the creativity.
Marissa D — Google review
Cool concept, but GPS bringing us through the entire campus was difficult. Thankfully a student at the security gate allowed us through with the promise we would be there less than a half hour. There was no parking though so my husband stayed in the car and I ran over.
Rachael G — Google review
You are free to express yourself with spray paint within the confined of the tunnel. This tunnel has 40 or more years of paint on the walls, ground and ceiling. Every square inch has been covered multiple times in paint. We had a great time! Lots of artistic endeavors. Be aware though that the paint fumes do linger.
April W — Google review
Very cool place! You can play music and do whatever you want. Definitely check it out if you live in the area 💕
Cheyenne — Google review
A very cool art installation, but the security cameras everywhere really draw from the experience. It doesn't feel like freedom of expression of someone's standing there filming you to make sure you don't say something wrong.
Sam L — Google review
A very unique part of campus only steps away from the Student Union. Always changing with some amazing art work at times.

Visitors can enjoy the quiet and peaceful environment, with police actively patrolling to ensure safety. The park features art structures, a big dog park, sunflower fields, and stunning views of the city. It's an ideal spot for sightseeing and leisurely walks in good weather. Additionally, it hosts events like the Margarita Madness 5K, offering opportunities for fun activities and community engagement.
Today was the perfect weather for site seeing and a good walk in the park. Not a lot of people roaming the park when we went. Loved each art structure and the environment!

Attended a wedding here and I was very impressed with the beauty of this park. It was very quiet and I was pleased to see police actively patrolling the park. This made me feel safe and at rest since I am from out of town and unfamiliar with the area.

Dix Park hosted the Margarita Madness 5K. It was a great event to come out and watch some people run, walk, and have fun.

Beautiful park with a beautiful view of downtown Raleigh. I went out there to play the pop up disc golf course, and it was totally awesome. Big trees and green grass! Watch out for seedpods because they are ankle breakers.

Netposer G — Google review
Played the pop-up disc golf course and it was fun! Fairly straightforward course with some elevation and a few large trees that like to make sudden movements toward flying discs.

A great place to run and connected to the greenway. A bit hilly but nicely shaded throughout parts, the roads themselves can be a bit difficult to navigate.

If you're exploring downtown Raleigh, the Moore Square Parking Deck is a hidden gem that offers more than just a place to park your car. While it may not provide a traditional skyline view, the top level treats visitors to stunning sights of notable buildings like PNC Plaza and Wells Fargo. It's an incredibly convenient spot for those visiting nearby attractions such as the Marble Museum or grabbing dinner at local eateries like The Pizza Times. On weekends, you can enjoy free parking, which is a delightful bonus!
Very convenient parking lot.. We visited the Marble museum and parked my car here. I did not realize that weekends the parking is free hurray.. that’s awesome.. I tried to find a spot around Moores Square and it was virtually impossible.. I was looking for a free car charger and found this parking deck. I was able to charge my car for three hours and did not pay for parking .. but the ChargePoint free charger is on the fifth floor and actually it’s really slow. It only gives 3 kW per hour. But something is better than nothing.. for weekday parking to its relatively cheap and compared to other lots..
Vinay K — Google review
The place stinks because a lot of homeless people walking around. I doubt you fit well to its ceiling height if you drive a big SUV or truck especially with a cargo box on the roof
Serge L — Google review
Got free parking for going on a Saturday which was great. Lots of spaces available. Only downsides were the elevator (dirty and sketchy) and the ground level being where the bus station is so there are some sketchy people sitting and staring or walking up asking random questions
Tyra D — Google review
Had to park here when we stopped for dinner at The Pizza Times. It was easy to get in and out of, which is a really big deal to me because I hate parking garages.

Nestled on the historic campus of Saint Augustine's University, St. Agnes Hospital has a rich legacy that dates back to 1896. This remarkable institution was not only the sole hospital serving African Americans between Atlanta and Washington, D.C., but it also played a pivotal role in training Black nurses, earning accreditation from the American Medical Association in 1937. The three-story structure, though now partially covered by vines and missing its roof, still stands as a testament to resilience and hope.
Absolutely amazing. Just to stand on this ground was awesome. At one time it was the only hospital to serve/care for, African or Native Americans on the state of North Carolina. Mr. Jack Johnson (world champion boxer) died here.

Spooky looking. All locked up when we were by - so very cool from outside- but couldn't get in and couldn't see where hours of opening was. Worth the drive by- but disappointed to not get in OR figure out where and when we could get int.
