Nestled on a stunning peninsula along Long Island's North Shore, Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve offers a diverse outdoor experience. Once the estate of Marshall Field III, this 1,520-acre park features picturesque trails for hiking, running, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. Visitors can explore woodlands, meadows, rocky shorelines, and salt marshes while enjoying activities like fishing and scuba diving with permits.
Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve is such a gorgeous and lush place with so much to do and see. I had so much fun e-scootering along the main trail, passing by pieces of history and scenic views. There were plenty people biking, running, walking, etc. If you are a bird lover like me, this park is the perfect place to do some bird watching. There are apparently 200+ species of birds that call the park home throughout the year - I saw my first Tree Swallow when I visited and was completely tranced by it's iridescent blue feathers. The park also features a relaxing walled garden perfect for a leisurely stroll, and a cafe as well. Overall, I highly recommend visiting. It is well worth the fee, and can easily become an entire day activity if you decide to stroll the entire park area. I plan on visiting again soon!

Great coverage of horse roads, beach, and forest. The rose garden was a bit sparse, but well maintained. Some of the trails were harder to find as they aren't marked and green grass grew on top of them. We spent 4 hours exploring the outer perimeter, so it's worth spending a day here

Really amazing place on LI for a hike! I chose a ~5 mi loop via alltrails and loved it. A little something for everyone here, history, wildlife, woods, beach. Really neat how the trail winds through the woods beside Long Island sound. It looks like there is a road that takes you down to Fisherman's beach if you acquire a permit for those who can't walk that far but still want to enjoy the beach area.
Mark N — Google review
One of my favorite parks on Long Island. It's beautiful, peaceful and so many trails, whether hiking or biking. I enjoy going to the beach area because it's not a lot of people who want to bring all the beach stuff 2 miles from the parking lot to the beach, but me 😂. So it's often a nice quiet day on the beach. Good bike ride back to the parking lot at the end of the day.
Ulrika W — Google review
GORGEOUS park. An idyllic balance between natural and pristine. The paved paths and great stretches of lawn make this park accessible and welcoming—but there are also more untamed paths where, heading to the beach my friends and I saw deer, bunnies and groundhogs!
Indigo J — Google review
I normally stay local on the North Shore, Glen Cove to be exact because I grew up there and I know all the hidden cul de sac beachs and trails where there is almost nobody ever there. However today I said let's go big, and it was so worth it. The expansive trails, Deer running everywhere like rabbits and then the winding road down to the Water..Breath taking as you will see in my pictures..Go, go tomorrow
Jeffrey B — Google review
This was such a wonderful discovery for us. We walked all around the park in the search of ocean access. Absolutely stunning views and an enjoyable walk (about 15K steps).
Satenik M — Google review
Met a friend for a nature walk and had a great time! We did the 3 mile loop which was perfect for me! The person who worked the gate was super friendly, and the park was really clean! We even saw a deer that didn’t run from us and came up super close which was a unique experience we enjoyed! I would highly recommend this place!

Sunken Meadow State Park is a family-friendly destination with 3 miles of beach, a golf course, hiking trails, and a boardwalk. Callahans Beach within the park is popular among town residents and their visitors, offering amenities like lifeguards, first-aid station, restrooms, outdoor showers, playground, picnic area, and campground. The park's golf courses designed by Alfred Tull provide a unique experience for golfers of all levels.
This was a beautiful place to walk by the water and feel the sense of calm that water provides. I remember seeing benches by the parking lot, a staircase down to get to the sand, and people with their pets and/friends. It was lovely to visit and I would return again. I didn't need a restroom so I cannot comment on it. Enjoy your time there if you have the opportunity.
Jaime M — Google review
We love this park and have been going for years. There is a nice boardwalk and plenty of parking. We were happy to see signs posted for no loud music on the beach because sometimes on weekends it can be loud. We prefer weekday trips there. They are also starting to post their summer beach yoga program. Additionally there are some areas closed for endangered species of birds for those bird lovers. No pets are allowed and bikes on the Boardwalk are only allowed before 9 am.
Lauren C — Google review
Beautiful park with great trails & an outstanding beach. The trails are well maintained and the beach is very clean. It is a rocky/shell beach do keep that in mind but it’s less crowded than the south shore beaches.
M K — Google review
Excellent clean beach with lots of parking and restrooms. Nice boardwalk along the beach. Clean calm water of Northern Long Island. The only one drawback the beach has lots of small beach pebbles which may be annoying to step on. But it’s a minor flaw. Overall, a great beach and park for the entire family.
Kosta R — Google review
Sunken Meadow is a beautiful state park located on the north shore of Long Island. It has a boardwalk with stunning views of the sound, hiking trails through the wetlands, and a number of athletic fields. We visited for a cross country event this morning. It was eight dollars to enter the park and the price was worth every penny. This place is beautiful!
A R — Google review
The weather was perfect for a walk and the trails were peaceful and scenic. Great place to enjoy nature and get some fresh air. Just be mindful of ticks this time of year; worth taking a few precautions.
Lisa A — Google review
There is a lot going on at this park. For 1 it has a beach on the other side which is gorgeous. They managed to keep it overall clean especially the benches, patios, and the restaurant quarters. They have binoculars you can use for 25 cents at a time for about 5 minutes or so to look far into the abyss. Be careful though about the sand because it does get pretty hot during the day. I would also recommend not walking on the pier with bare feet because you may get tetanus which is hard to treat. There are several parking lots located all around the park which have several hundreds of spots for you to park. You also have access to grills in the forest and nature areas which are perfect to bbq and picnic. The hills are oddly shaped to be honest but pretty fun regardless. The roads are also creased with several flaps so make sure if you’re riding with a bike or scooter you may encounter several obstacles. There is an area in the middle of the park where you can host several events like an annual gathering or a family reunion but it’s on a first come first serve basis. The nature walks are awesome because you have lakes and ponds to explore, wildlife to marvel at and the skyline looks beautiful during sunset. The park does close roughly around 8 PM or so on the weekends but may stay longer during the weekdays. I also do recommend being plenty of bug spray, mesh nets or a zapper because you will encounter plenty of mosquitoes and flies. There are also areas to be weary of ticks as they are super small and difficult to spot. The park is perfect for nature outdoor activities and communing with nature. I went on several bbqs and picnics with my mosque from sunnyside and my family and we had the best time of our lives. Playground sets around for the kids and posts set up for volleyball if need be. There are park rangers patrolling around to make sure everyone is safe and secure and to ensure nobody is messing around with anything. Lifeguards on standby at the beach with even flags to guide and limit the exposure to the beach tides and waves. Despite knowing how to swim you can’t match up against the earth natural forces thus the barriers and faculty to ensure everything is compliant.
Yvngumar — Google review
Seems nice BUT $8 bucks to get in, no swimming, no pets barely any people except for students and families getting dingged for dropping off and picking up their kids. I'm better off going to all the other free parks in LI with more flexible amenities.

Cold Spring Harbor State Park is a 40-acre hilly park offering stunning harbor views, hardwood forests, and seasonal songbirds. It features challenging trails that provide a good workout without being too strenuous, taking about an hour and a half to complete. The park is popular among people of all ages and is dog-friendly as long as pets are leashed. Additionally, the nearby downtown area offers food and shopping options for visitors.
I discovered that the trail at Cold Spring Harbor State Park is part of the Long Island Greenbelt Trail and seems to go on forever. I hiked about 5 miles and eventually reached the beautiful green circle field known as Stillwell Woods Preserve. The park is absolutely gorgeous, featuring hilly terrain with impressive oak tree roots and the relaxing sounds of various songbirds. I spotted a few squirrels along the way. The trail is shaded, so I didn't need sunscreen or bug spray, even in late August. However, I highly recommend wearing real hiking shoes due to the rough roots and stones on the trail. And, of course, don't forget your water bottle!
H W — Google review
Nice short yet challenging trail. Roundtrip is about 2 miles with sections of steep inclines and declines. At the end of the trail, you can continue the trail across the road or turn back. Highly recommend good footwear, lots of loose rocks and tree roots on the trail. Parking lot was pretty big, we didn’t need to wait for a spot. After the hike, we went across the street by the water which was nice and relaxing.

Cold Spring Harbor Park is a beautiful hidden gem on Long Island! 🌿✨ Peaceful trails through lush woods with scenic harbor views ⛅—perfect for a 30 min to 1½ hr hike. Wear good shoes and bring bug spray in warmer months! 🥾🦟 Great for birdwatching 🦉🐦, dog-friendly 🐶, and open year-round with free parking 🚗. Every season has its charm—from vibrant spring greens to stunning fall foliage 🍂🍃. After your hike, enjoy harbor views, visit the Whaling Museum or Fish Hatchery, and grab a bite at nearby local eateries 🍴🚤. Free, fresh, and unforgettable—a must-visit Long Island escape! 🌊🌳

A word of warning, the elevation here is pretty steep. So be prepared to climb. This hiking trail is well maintained with manmade wooden stairs all over. It’s quiet, well maintained, and has great signage.
Isaac S — Google review
Love this park. Very challenging in the beginning. They are redoing the starting stairs. They have added benches. A lot has been washed away.
Kelly V — Google review
Very nice hike. It’s 5 miles. It doesn’t loop. Just be aware. Great views of the harbor, a few surprises along the hike. Different elevations. 🦋 moderate challenging hike 🦋 dog friendly trail 🦋 parking available 🦋 restrooms available 🦋right next to the library, which is amazing! 🦋great view of sunset here
Zarina — Google review
Really good state park and the trails are easy to follow, but pick up your damn garbage 🙏🏼 please
Dorothy D — Google review
Great Park if you want a moderate to challenging hike. What's best the entire hike was under shade. So it was relatively cool and surprisingly I didn't encounter any mosquitoes. There were some convenient stairs and a very clear clean path

Park
Heckscher State Park, located on a 19th-century estate, spans 1,600 acres and offers a variety of activities for visitors. The park features multi-use trails that are perfect for hiking and cycling, with wide paths to ensure safety for all users. It boasts sports fields, boat launches, playgrounds by the water, and paths through the woods. Additionally, the park offers cottages for rent and camping options.
We stayed a week at the cottages with 4 different families the week before July 4th. We had 9 kids ages 5-19. It was one of the best vacations I have ever been on. The cottages were modern, spacious and clean. There was ample space to congregate for family fun and meals. We had local family and friends stop by for the day. We were 20 minutes from Robert Moses Beach and the outlets. The kids biked and played disc golf. It was an amazing experience and we easily would visit again! 🌈
Kerry M — Google review
Not a bad place to camp. Price was okay for what ya go. The sites are a little squished together. I personally think renting out fire pits at a campsite should be a sin. We’re camping, there should just be a fire pit. The bathrooms are decently clean and the grounds are well cared for.
Dexter L — Google review
This state park is absolutely beautiful and has so much to offer. It’s huge, so no matter how many times I’ve been here, I always find something new to explore. There are multiple playgrounds spread throughout the park, which makes it a great spot for families with kids. The grounds are well-kept, and everything feels safe and open. One of the best parts is that it’s free after 4pm on weekdays and after 6pm on weekends, which makes it really easy to stop by even for a short evening visit. It’s such a nice way to spend some time outdoors without worrying about rushing. There’s a ton to do, whether you want to take a walk, ride bikes, enjoy a picnic, or just relax and soak in nature. I always see deer when I go, which makes the experience feel extra special. The wildlife here really adds to the peaceful atmosphere. Overall, this park is one of the nicest places around. Between the size, the variety of activities, and the natural beauty, it’s definitely worth visiting again and again.

He is her STATE Park- in Islip - Note: not to be confused with Heckscher park in Huntington NY. As I had made the error. GPS again is tricky with a few side streets and looping me back on to the highway. Finally found field 1 past field 2 with help of the girl at the podium enterance. The few young men staff that were there we’re helpful and gave me a map, once I got to the paring area. The park and beach do seem to have much to offer. The picnic I went had many people and a tent and DJ Set up. I do want to go back and explore the many things there.
Mindy M — Google review
Great spot for sunsets most the year (can't see the sun from most the South Shore in the summer months). Multiple fields for different vibes. The sand is minimal - more of a rocky beach. There's also great walking trails in the fields and around the beaches and the make shift lake. Great spot also to drive your car in the winter and be close enough to the water to see the sunset without having to freeze.
Mandeep K — Google review
I love Hecksher! Specifically for camping. The grounds are grassy and flat and very well maintained. Kind and helpful staff. I love the bike trail. So many different birds!! So many turkeys! Btw the showers are in the same facility as the bathrooms! Score.
Sophia F — Google review
Have been coming to this park for over 40 years. Good place to watch the sunset. Wonderful place to bike ride with or without children. Plenty of playgrounds for children to play on. So many places to walk and explore or camp. Love walking along the beach feet in the water. An ok place to swim.

Went out on 8/10/2025 on a lovely Sunday day out at my girlfriend annual picnic day. It was nice ! Food, music and relaxation. One thing, bad phone reception. That was very annoying. 😞

Nature & Parks
Hither Hills State Park is a coastal haven featuring a vast campground, sandy dunes, and various recreational facilities. The park's diverse landscape includes rolling dunes, woodlands, and scenic trails perfect for activities like hiking and birdwatching. Nearby Camp Hero State Park offers rugged bluffs, tidal pools, and historical intrigue. Montauk's reputation as the 'Fishing Capital of the World' draws fishing enthusiasts seeking striped bass, fluke, and bluefish.
Hither Hills is a favorite of ours. It is quiet and peaceful when we go in April. The beach is beautiful but eroded from last year. The bathrooms and showers are a plus. The town has an IGA where you can pick up groceries. White's drug store has whatever else you may need plus a gift shop. There are numerous restaurants to choose from. At times, the sound of the waves at night is so soothing it lulls me to sleep. There is a nice picnic area with tables and barbecues and a great playground.
Donna C — Google review
Love the place, not the over burdensome rules for families camping with different members back and forth with different cars
Andreas S — Google review
Easily our favorite beach in the Hamptons. $10/day parking, super clean bathrooms, snack bar, lifeguards after Labor Day.
Taylor N — Google review
Beautiful beach with a campground and all the facilities necessary.
Jana S — Google review
Hither hills campground. I have to say one of the best bathrooms I've ever seen at a campground. They also have family bathrooms and super large showers 😜.No pull string water control is the best. There's a nice size playground for the kids or big adults. All the sites are back in. There is no privacy between sites and every site is completely open.Everyone is very friendly. They actually have a general store that sells beer. They sell wood at the main office $7 a bundle. It was worth it . On the back side of the main office building they have air fill up the station. If you're coming back from wheeling this is nice. From where we camped we were literally on the other side of the dune to the beach. There are no hookups so you have to be self-contained. There are water spickets around the campgrounds. So if you do pick a site that is close to one of these water stations you might get some extra foot traffic near your site. Something to think about when choosing a spot. We really had a great time and you're only 10 minutes away from town which was also very nice. We will definitely be returning.
Joey — Google review
Nice quiet camping with the sound of the ocean as a constant background. The wind off the ocean was pretty consistent but not enough to drive off the mosquitos. This place is more popular with RV camping but you can set up two tents (but no more! Despite the presence of house-sized RVs, you're not allowed more than two tents and they'll absolutely make you take them down if you try). There aren't tall trees so no hammocks or overhead tarping are likely to happen. Bathrooms are clean. Showers are free and warm. There's a general store. During the day, the beach is full of people.
Joe P — Google review
This campground is amazing. I love falling asleep to the sound of the waves. Every once in a while with the nake eye you can see whales and dolphins. The campers are courtesy, respectful and helpful.
Daniel F — Google review
If you love boondock camping and the beach, Hither Hills State Park campground is the perfect combination of both. Nestled off Old Montauk Highway, the campsites are spacious with easy access to the beach just over the sand dunes. Clean toilets and showers are within short walking distance from each site. A general store is onsite with basic necessities and a grill for quick breakfast/lunch items. Beware and reserve 6-9 months in advance of your trip during peak summer season which requires a minimum stay of 7 days. Also plan for limited cellphone service. But once you’re here, relax by your tent or camper, sleep on the beach, or explore the surrounding villages east or west of the park. We’re hoping to make this an annual place to visit! The camp office staff was very helpful throughout our stay specially Jeanny who gave us a lot of guidance and recommendations since it was our first time in the area!

Jones Beach State Park is a popular destination that attracts over six million visitors annually. The park features a 6.5-mile stretch of white-sand beach along the Atlantic Ocean, offering various activities such as swimming, sunbathing, surfing, paddle boarding, and kayaking. Visitors can also enjoy amenities like waterfront boardwalks, nature trails through pine forests, bathhouses, lifeguard towers, swimming pools, concession stands with ocean views and picnic areas.
Overall a nice beach.. depending on which lot you park, there is a bit of a walk from the parking lot to the water, so be ready for that. The sand is mostly soft and the water is clean andnit wasn't as cold as I thought it would be being that is mid June. They charge 10$ to get inside but sometimes if you go later in the day they might not change anymore..
Ruth P — Google review
What a difference from when I was growing up. Jones Beach has gone through a reformation. There’s still construction taking place. However, the boardwalk is smooth and wide. There are restaurants and wild play activities. This is a great place for families, couples, friends or just to visit for self reflection.

Just recently visited Jones Beach State Park, and we were pleasantly surprised by how good the surf was! We weren’t expecting much, but the waves really delivered. Clean sets, decent size, and just the right amount of challenge for intermediate surfers. The beach itself is beautiful and well-maintained, with plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the sun. The atmosphere was relaxed, and even though it was a popular spot, it never felt overcrowded. Parking was convenient, and the facilities were clean and accessible. Overall, Jones Beach gave us a perfect day of sun, surf, and good vibes. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into surfing or just want a great beach day on Long Island. We’ll absolutely be back!

We visited the beach early for the baseball field, but found many cars had parked inside. We realized that for Memorial Day Weekend their annual air show took priority and much of the parking spots were already filled. There were a few airplanes roaming around - most were a bit far away. There was a helicopter and jeep with military people available explaining their equipment. Parking spot 2 was best to keep quiet from the constant announcements, but still have access to the airplanes

We just visited **Robert Moses Beach** at Jones Beach to celebrate the 20th anniversary of when we first met (our actual wedding anniversary comes later). The day was unforgettable. There was thunder, lightning, and heavy rain at times, but it didn’t matter — we went to the beach anyway, and it turned out to be magical. There was even a wedding and an engagement happening in the middle of the storm, and somehow it all added to the beauty of the day. By the end, the weather calmed down, and it was simply stunning. The beach itself is clean and peaceful, so different from the New York City beaches, which can be pretty unpleasant. Overall, it was an amazing experience at a beach that truly feels special. Highly recommend!
Mrs. R — Google review
Every summer, this is my favorite place to go and watch the airshow — it's become a tradition I truly look forward to. The view is absolutely perfect for watching the planes soar by, and there’s an incredible energy in the air that makes the whole experience unforgettable. Whether you’re a longtime fan of airshows or just looking for a fun and unique summer outing, this spot never disappoints. There’s plenty of space to relax, enjoy a picnic, and take in the sights with friends or family. The sound of the jets, the stunts, and the overall atmosphere are just amazing.

Beach was clean and seemed well taken care of. Perfect place to take the family. It's even great if you're looking for somewhere to simply relax and enjoy the scenery. It has a play ground which also includes a tennis court. You can also find restaurants and various little stores along the boardwalk.
Natasha P — Google review
I visited Field 6 last year with a friend and had a great time, so I decided to return this summer with someone new. Things were different this time. I arrived early (around 9 a.m.) and found a good spot near the water, but the beachfront area was already completely taken. I relied on the umbrella rentals, but they didn’t open until almost 11 a.m., so I had to buy umbrellas from the shop instead. Unfortunately, both had defects and needed to be exchanged, which was frustrating. By mid-afternoon (after 3 p.m.), the beach became extremely crowded, and the atmosphere felt very different compared to last year. On the positive side, the bathrooms are impressively clean considering the heavy traffic of visitors — they have many stalls and are well maintained. Parking is also spacious and convenient. Overall, I’d recommend arriving early and bringing absolutely everything you might need with you, because relying on rentals or the nearby shop can complicate the experience. Personally, I don’t think I’d return, but I still tried to make the best of it with my friend.

Athletic park
Eisenhower Park, located in East Meadow, is a 930-acre county park known for its diverse recreational offerings. It features three acclaimed 18-hole golf courses - the Red, White, and Blue. The Red Course, designed by Devereux Emmet in 1914, has a rich history of hosting PGA Championships since 1926. The park also offers tennis courts, swimming facilities, and hosts summer concerts and movies.
Always enjoy the park for a walk, etc. The free summer concerts at Harry Chapin Lakeside Theater are great. They have a variety of artists, with some well known. The view of the stage is great. I enjoy the concerts and have been to many of them throughout the years.

Visited this park few years ago, very big park with lots of parking, restrooms and stage that host many types of events. Beautiful memorial status and artifacts. Plenty of place to relax with family and friends. Definitely worth visiting. Dog friendly you can also go bike riding here. Pak is near major park so accessibility won't be an issue.

Spacious park with lots of sports fields. The ground is in pretty good condition making it a safe place to run/walk and many weekends there are 5ks on the property. Ample parking around the park. Deducted one star because the bathrooms are not always stocked and/or clean, there doesn’t seem to be water fountains anywhere and are limited vending machines, and it’s not easy to get between multiple fields.

Park is very huge! They have several fields/parking lots. The memorial area is beautiful & love how clean it is Parking lots can get full pretty quickly but there’s so many of them Definitely a good place to bring family/kids

Long Island has another hidden gem! It’s packed with history and has plenty of parking. I highly recommend walking through Memorial Park. It’s a great place to pay respects to our heroes from the past. You’ll also find a small town called Safety Town, where we used to go as kids to practice driving. Haha! There’s always something to do at this park. They have an indoor swimming pool, an ice hockey rink, a dog park, BBQ areas, mini-golf, batting cages, a lakeside theater, a restaurant, and baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and miles of walking and hiking trails. Get outside and enjoy the day! Long Island is so beautiful.

This park is huge. This playground was at Gate 1 near the ice skating rink. There was a path to walk or ride bikes and so much grass to sit, lay or picnic. I took my granddaughter to play. She loved the park and she made a friend. Ample parking.

I came to Eisenhower Park to come eat the loot my homie and I got from Stew Leonard's. What a legendary grocery store that is. As we sat in the midst of this park digging into our pizza, smashburgers, and chicken, there was a group of 11 65+ year old ladies sitting in their sun blocking chairs just living life enjoying each others company. I've lived enough life to know that no amount of money or individual success could replace a strong, core group of friends like that. I was gonna take a picture from a distance but thought that would be a selfish endeavor, so I'm writing this review instead. Also, I must shout out Dwight D. Eisenhower. I'm balls deep in a WWII obsession right now, and he went from a 5-star general leading the Allied victory over the Germans to being the leader of the free world 7 years later. Iconic career path. This park was nice though. A lot of seating, open space, and great people watching while surrounded by nature that allows you to breathe and connect with the universe. Eisenhower Park is a very nice well kept park, some of the areas are under construction, went to see the Military helicopter landings and Old school world war two Tank, Half-tracks and WWII soldiers in their uniforms, it was a very nice experience and the park look like a place to take a walk or just lounge around.

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Muttontown Preserve, located in East Norwich, NY, spans 550 acres and is the largest nature preserve in Nassau County. It features a diverse landscape of fields, woodlands, ponds, and estate grounds from former mansions. Visitors can explore marked nature trails to observe local flora and fauna such as wildflowers, trees, birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. The preserve also offers guided public nature walks and educational programs by appointment.
Some of the trails are well maintained, but the trails' have a lot of fork roads; you need a map. You may get the map behind the house. After you finish, you can drive the car to the Chelsea Mason to walk around, or you can use the trails to walk to the Mason.

Beautiful preserve with variety of landscapes from forests to meadows to old estates. My preference to park is at Bill Paterson nature center that provides access to trails, restrooms and printed maps. Good way to navigate preserve is AllTrails app that has major trails captured. Otherwise, it might be confusing since only few major trails have trail markings. Chelsey mansion is technically part of preserve and its grounds are open for public access, however no trails start from this location. Alternative parking for preserve is equestrian center entrance on Jericho Oyster Bay Rd. This entrance is also shortest distance to former Knollwood Estate remnants aka King Zog’s ruins.

Very nice preserve. Great trails, wildlife, nature, etc. I came here on a nice Monday afternoon in January. 🦋Went to the Mansion & Garden as well. Highly recommend this if your in the area. 🦋There's sufficient parking and a little cabin, you'll find bathrooms in there and an info area. But when I went... it was closed... it wasn't even 3 pm... The trails start where the cabin is.. there's many trails, so choose which path you want to go in. You'll know you're on the trail if you see posts such as 6a, 2b, etc. There's a little swampy area, a hilly, grassy area, and so on. 🦋there's a horse ranch as well. Overall, I definitely recommend it for a nice hike and an adventure in the woods.

Came here for a hike over the weekend. Place is nice for a not so steep elevated hike. There are tons of trails of different lengths and times. The worker at the preserve was very friendly, knowledgeable and gave us a map and showed us the start of the first trail. I would definitely come back here on a beautiful day

Very beautiful old nature preserve in a nice area. It's well maintained and mowed in many areas along the trails. The ruins are limited and full of graffiti from what I've found. There are several different areas of the preserve and they have different traits. You can easily get lost here if you're not careful or experienced bring a drink with you.

Its ok, a little confusing if your not from around the area, had to ask for directions. Went to the Mansion &Garden first but by accident...then was directed to the right place. There's sufficient parking, and a little cabin, you'll find bathrooms in there and an info area. The trails start there...the trails, have trails so you might get confused. You'll know your on the trail if you see posts (like 6a, 2b stuff like that). Very muddy paths, lil swampy area, a hilly, grassy area, large area. Eventually if you venture off the path you'll end up on the horse ranch.. Saw some beavers too. Which was cool. Adventure took about an hour, overall its ok.

One of the Best nature preserves on Long Island. The beautiful Chelsea Mansion is right next door. Stop in at Paterson Center that’s at the trail head kids will love it. Make sure kids are protected from ticks. If you have a bike there is a bike rack in the parking lot. There are actually three entrances to Muttontown Preserve, there is what is called the equestrian entrance on route 106 the other two are a bit difficult if your a first timer but as long as search for the Chelsea Mansion in East Norwich the Preserve is right next door or down the road. Be aware if you are not frequent hiker give yourself plenty of daylight to get out of this corn maze like trail system. Most of the time during the Summer big mud puddles and if your looking for the ruins a good way to learn their history is to ask an expert inside the Paterson Center at the trail head it is very interesting.

The park also features the Heckscher Museum of Art showcasing American and European artwork from different centuries. Visitors can enjoy various events at the Chapin Rainbow Theater and indulge in fresh brews at Six Harbors Brewing Company or waterfront dining at Harbor Club at Prime.
1st time visiting this town and park, all can visit here with no fees, dog friendly and easy free street parking. For the best parking, i reccomend Madison st.There's a baseball field and playground available. There's a small pond/lake in the middle of the park. There's a walking path that loops around the lake. Plenty of benches available to sit and relax. Overall the this town is very pleasant and worth visiting.

lowkey such a chill park!! like I've passed by before but I had no idea it was this nice?? we walked around and the pond was nice with lots of ducks and geese hanging around. a lot of ppl have their dogs here so don't be coming here if you're not into dogs. literally this pitbull went ham on this old lady while my friend and I were there, which was weird bc he was chill when we passed him, idk. 10/10 would recommend

We brought our dog Charlie to Heckscher Park and he is now convinced he’s the unofficial mayor of Huntington. He sniffed every leaf, made about six new squirrel frenemies, and gave the pond a very serious inspection. The fall foliage here is *chef’s kiss* like walking through a living postcard. The park has plenty of beautiful paths, calm water views, and space for a dog to strut around like he owns the place (Charlie certainly did). We also loved the peaceful vibe and the sense of history. If you’re looking for a relaxing adventure with your pup — or you just want to soak in nature without having to climb a mountain — this park is an easy 10/10. We’ll definitely be back… Charlie already has his next patrol route planned!

A gem of a park! Great playground for the kids. It’s huge ! Great outdoor free concerts in the park during the summer. Fun festivals. Echo house is very cool. Excellent museum. Ice cream truck is always there. Bathrooms are accessible - although the ladies room could be a little cleaner - but it is a public restroom so …. I can always get my puppy fix as dogs are allowed. The pond is home to ducks and geese and turtles and the landscaping is beautiful and picturesque. There are benches all around the park and tables for picnics. I used to take my kids when they were little and also walk with my elderly parents- since it’s paved and had plenty of benches for a rest as needed. I’ve seen groups of moms exercising with strollers - tennis 🎾 courts, ball fields and of course the huge fall festival is so fun!

Childhood memories from here and the park is even nicer and more beautiful well kept and clean than it ever has been in the 50 years I'm going here. Great for picnic family or just enjoying the beautiful wildlife flowers fountains. As a bonus they had a free concert of an amazing Led Zeppelin cover band at 8pm. The nicest park in this whole area.

Ah, the beach ⛱️ 😎 😍 Not only is it the beach, it's a South Shore Ocean Beach 😀 The beach, Robert Moses, is an awesome place to relax, unwind, collect some sun 🌞 see the sights, and get into that Ocean Beach water. The sand is great. It isn't rocky or seaweed infested like a couple of other South Shore beaches. R.M.S.P. is truly a little getaway for a few hours when time permits. I don't often get the opportunity to take a few hours out, but when I am able, I want as much value for my time as I can get. After all time is the most precious commodity. I'm looking forward to the next time that I go.

A hidden gem on Long Island — peaceful, clean, and beautiful! We visited Robert Moses State Park on a Monday, and it was absolutely perfect. The beach was incredibly clean, the ocean was calm and relaxing, and best of all — there were very few people, which made the whole experience feel peaceful and almost private. It’s a wonderful place if you’re looking to escape the city and enjoy nature without the crowds. Right nearby, there’s a beautiful lighthouse you can walk to — and along the way, we found wild blackberries and other delicious berries growing in the sand dunes and bushes. It felt like a little adventure in the middle of summer. Highly recommend this spot for a quiet weekday getaway. Bring a towel, a book, and maybe a container for berries!

Wildwood State Park, located on Long Island Sound, offers a 2-mile beach, hiking trails, and a hardwood forest. The sprawling 600-acre park includes a campground and various amenities for families to enjoy weekend getaways. The Wildwood State Park Loop Trail is perfect for hiking enthusiasts. Campers can expect accessible drinking water spigots and well-maintained bathrooms with free showers. Each campsite comes with its own picnic table and is just a short walk from the Long Island Sound.
Fun and inexpensive camping site. Bathroom is pretty dirty by the end of the day but gets cleaned every morning so not too bad. We went on a summer weekend so it was very packed but it was still really fun. Saw deer and groundhog. The beach was pretty nice. There are also basketball courts and a little store that rents fire pits and wood on site. Plus nearby there’s a farm where you can pick your own fruits and veggies! We loved it overall.

We enjoyed our weekend here. The campground is clean and well maintained. There is lots to do although we had a short stay and didn’t get to take full advantage of all there was. The only downside is this is NOT a dog friendly campground/park which was disappointing.

1,5h from Manhattan. Car fee $10. Gift shop, barbeque areas, restrooms. No pets allowed on the beech. The park has 2 miles of beach on the Long Island sound for fishing and swimming. Each campsite has a picnic table, and dumping stations are nearby. There are 10 cottages, each with a fire ring, screened-in patio, and are available for rent through mid-November. Other amenities include food concessions, a nature trail, twelve miles of marked hiking trails, a picnic area, basketball courts, ball fields, a playground, and showers. Firewood is for sale at the park; bring your own barbecue or metal fire container.

I liked it a lot, I have been there several times, especially my children had a lot of fun playing at the playground. In addition, there is a sea there, there are many beautiful picnic areas, good parking facilities and adequate rest rooms. The peaceful atmosphere touched my heart ♥️
Ayesha B — Google review
Don’t be like us and make sure you read the fine print. I glossed over the fact that these campsites do not have a fire pit and that you need to either bring one or rent one. $12 a night, $20 cash only deposit so we had to go across the street view o Niks deli to get cash. Very happy with the campsite that we picked because it was towards the end of a loop so we only really had the neighbor to the back of us which we were able to kind of block off with our tent/gazebo pop-up. There’s not much blockage from trees in any of the other areas so everybody is basically just next to each other which isn’t an ideal but just choose your site wisely! The bathrooms were very well maintained and very stocked with toilet paper, very clean. The walk to the beach is a little bit of a hike if you’re going with a bunch of stuff because you literally can only walk up and down and it’s steep going back up. Just good to know before hand. The water is kind of gross obviously it’s Long Island but the scenery was breathtaking and the sunset was amazing I don’t know that I would go again just because of how on top of each other all of the campsites are with no real blockage from each other but nonetheless it was a great trip and a very beautiful area
Cristina P — Google review
I like the place! Quiet and not crowded without music (hope , everyone is coming here to relax with nature sounds). There is a play ground, restrooms near the barbecue area. The picnic area is well maintained with the garbage can, barbecue, tables. A lot. Beach area has bathrooms with the sink to wash the shoes. The beach is not big, but lovely place.

Was in section E, cute - private. The park itself is really beautiful, my main issue was the bathrooms…. The park was EMPTY… Give or take maybe 20 occupants. There was no reason for the bathroom nearby to be that disgusting 🤢 otherwise everything else was good! Employees were nice :)

Belmont Lake State Park, established in 1926 on the former site of August Belmont's farm, offers a picturesque setting for lakeside picnics and outdoor activities. The 463-acre park features multi-use trails, fishing opportunities, and paddle boating on the 26-acre Belmont Lake. Families can enjoy gatherings, picnics, playgrounds, and pedal boat rides. The park is well-maintained with ample parking and reserved picnic areas.
What a beautiful day to take a walk in the park. Mixed terrain and scenery. From wooded areas to wide open lake views. Ok there were cannons from a British warship which justifies extra points. Plenty of parking, clearly marked trails, and scenic views. No fee until April 1st. Located right off the southern state parkway.

Spent the afternoon at Belmont Lake State Park with my family and had a really lovely time. It’s such a beautiful spot with well-maintained walking trails that are perfect for all ages. We especially appreciated the many shaded areas, it made a big difference on a hot day. The lake itself is gorgeous, and they offer small pedal boats you can rent, which was a fun and peaceful way to enjoy the water. There’s a surprising amount of wildlife (ducks, etc). We saw plenty of families there, some hosting gatherings at the many picnic spots and open spaces, and the playground is great for kids. The area I visited was big, clean, and well-equipped. There were also many large fields that are perfect for playing sports. Additionally, if ice cream trucks are something you are interested in, there was one stationed by the playground when I arrived. The only downside was the bathroom, which was honestly in rough shape. The floor was slippery and it didn’t seem like it had been cleaned in a while, which was a bit disappointing for such a beautiful park. That said, Belmont Lake is still a gem. Whether you’re walking, boating, or just relaxing under the trees, it’s a great place to spend time outdoors with family. I definitely recommend visiting!

Belmont Lake State Park put on such a fun and family friendly Halloween celebration. The park looked beautiful with the fall colors and all the festive decorations. The pumpkin float was the highlight of the night, watching the glowing jack-o’-lanterns drift across the lake was absolutely magical. It felt peaceful and festive all at once. My first time here and I came to do the red trail which is 3.4 miles of stunning nature. There are restrooms at the beginning and next to the hatchery which was perfect with refil water stations. Definitely must come back as there are 4 other trails.

If you take the trail all the way to the hatchery, the hatchery area has bathrooms and a water fountain.

Visited this park on my own, looking for some quiet time away from the city. The moment you walk in, it feels like you’ve stepped into another world — tall trees, open meadows, and the sound of water that makes you forget about traffic and phones. I wandered along the trails without rushing anywhere, just breathing and listening. There were moments when the sunlight came through the branches in such a way that it looked like a scene from an old painting. I actually caught myself thinking: “If only I had the skill, I’d set up an easel right here and paint for hours.” Sitting on a bench near the water, I realized I hadn’t felt that calm in a long time. This isn’t a park to rush through; it’s a place to slow down, reflect, and let your thoughts breathe. If you want noise, crowds, or attractions, this isn’t it. But if you want to clear your head and just exist for a while in nature — this place is perfect.

There are a plethora of landscapes ranging from wetlands, small ponds, and museum, but there is also a long barren path. For walking, the lands are very flat, but filled with lots of sand and occasional horse manure. There isn't much to look out, which isn't surprising that it was basically devoid of people on the blue trail

Blydenburgh County Park is a forested park that offers various activities such as hiking, picnicking, and fishing. The Stump Pond Loop trail provides a scenic route along the Nissequogue River and around the picturesque Stump Pond. Hikers of all levels can enjoy this trail, which features elevation changes and captivating twists and turns. It's recommended to use a map or digital resources to navigate the paths effectively.
We used to enjoy fishing here, but sadly, the water has been drained after the dam broke in August. Despite this, we visited for the nostalgia and were pleased to find that the trails remain wonderful. The area still offers a serene and scenic environment for hiking and exploring. We even spotted some deer along the trails, which was a delightful surprise. You can bring your dog on a leash, making it a great spot for pet owners. Plus, there’s no fee on weekdays, which is a nice bonus. Overall, it’s still a lovely place to visit for a peaceful walk in nature.

The park is still beautiful, although very muddy because the pond has now dried up. I think in hot weather there will be a lot of mosquitoes and it won't be a good place to go but if it isn't hot and not humid, it is worth the trip, You can still hike completely around the pond, or what used to be the pond.

This park on Long Island, New York, is one of the best I’ve ever visited. It’s got a huge open space and one of the biggest dog parks I’ve seen. I went for a 10-mile hike around the lake and saw so much nature, deer, chipmunks, and horses. It’s easy to download the map of the park, and there are so many different trails for dogs to enjoy. I hope the water can return to the lake someday. There are also camper areas, BBQ, and bathrooms. If you’re ever in Hauppauge, you definitely need to check this park out!

The park this time around wasn’t up to the expectations. The water had completely dried up. Somehow was quite disappointed with the park this time around. And somehow felt that it needed an upkeep and maintenance. The only good thing is was able to spot a cute deer on my way back.

We recently visited Blydenburgh County Park, planning just to take a drive through, and right at the entrance we discovered there’s a small park fee. That was fine with us, since we figured we might as well explore while we were there. The park itself is beautiful and well-kept, with large open spaces, picnic areas, and plenty of scenic spots that look perfect for spending a peaceful day outdoors. We noticed the lake seemed to have some kind of issue going on, but even so, the surroundings were very pretty and serene. The highlight for us was definitely the dog park, which we ended up spending most of our time in. It’s spacious, thoughtfully designed, and a wonderful place for dogs to run, play, and explore. Our dog loved it, and so did we. Afterward, we drove around a bit more to take in the rest of the park, and it really gave the impression of a calm, inviting space. Blydenburgh County Park feels like a little escape into nature. It’s peaceful, scenic, and full of spots where families — and especially dogs — can enjoy themselves. We’ll definitely be visiting again.

Hempstead Lake State Park, located on the largest lake in Nassau County, offers a serene environment with various amenities. The park features flat hiking trails that lead to three ponds and provides opportunities for activities such as equestrian rides, biking, and picnicking. Visitors can enjoy a classic wooden carousel and a spacious playground area while taking in the natural beauty of the surroundings. Additionally, there are clean restroom facilities with heating available.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Hempstead Lake State Park is a hidden gem on Long Island! This park offers a perfect escape into nature with its beautiful landscapes and serene lake views. The walking and biking trails are well-maintained, making them ideal for all ages. I especially loved the peaceful atmosphere and the variety of wildlife that you can spot along the way. The picnic areas are perfect for a family day out, and I appreciated the ample parking and facilities available. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll, a challenging hike, or a fun day with the family, this park has it all. It's a wonderful place to relax, unwind, and connect with nature. Highly recommend for anyone visiting or residing in the area!

This is a multi-use path is for walkers, joggers, cyclists, possibly horses. Leashed dogs are permitted. The path is wide for easy passing or walking side by side. The footing is good but can get muddy if it rains a lot. The walk around the lake is 3 miles. Parking in Field 5 is easy.

I've been told about this gem for a couple years now. It took me too long to explore its beauty. Truly a wonderful escape in the Hempstead area. So peaceful and majestic. All the usual state park amenities for BBQ, sports etc. The lake makes it a bit more special though. I was there close to Sunset on a Wednesday. Such a great way to close out the day.

A variety of activities available to visitors of all abilities. hiking trails, boating, equestrian trails, a visitor center, picnic areas, tennis courts, playground, and pretty much everything you could expect to find out of park. The visitor center has a very modern feel, although small square footage.

Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, NY is a sprawling park known for its five top-notch golf courses, including the renowned Bethpage Black Course. The park also offers hiking and biking trails, picnic facilities, playing fields, tennis courts, and bridle paths. Visitors can enjoy matches at the polo field from June to October. Additionally, there are restaurant and catering facilities available on-site. The Red Course provides similar challenges to the Black Course with changing elevations and thick roughs.
Home of the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, this State Park boasts some of the most reasonable golf on Long Island. In order of difficulty Blue, Yellow, Green, Red and Black each track offers enjoyable golf for all skill levels. Clubhouse oversees the iconic Black Course and is a great place to discuss & dissect the round.

We had the best time at Bethpage! My boyfriend played the Black Course and I walked with him, it was intense, beautiful, and so well designed Watching him take on that challenge was unforgettable I played the Red Course myself and had so much fun It was still challenging but really enjoyable and well laid out The whole experience, from the staff to the scenery was amazing Can’t wait to come back!

Living right next to Bethpage State Park is truly a blessing. This park is absolutely beautiful, and it’s become part of our daily life — we take our dog Piper here almost every day for walks. No matter how many times I’ve been, it never loses its charm. The park is filled with multiple trails, each offering a different experience. Some are peaceful and wooded, others more open with sweeping views, but all are gorgeous. Walking here often feels like being transported upstate — you’d never believe you’re still on Long Island. The views, especially during different seasons, are breathtaking. There’s also so much more than just walking trails. The playground is great for families, and of course, the world-class golf courses are a huge draw. Bethpage Black is legendary, and the fact that the Ryder Cup is coming here in September speaks volumes about the quality of the course. Even if you don’t golf, just being around those perfectly maintained fairways is something special. Another highlight is that the park connects to the 12-mile Bethpage Bikeway, which runs all the way from Massapequa to the shoreline. Whether you’re biking or walking parts of it, it’s one of the most beautiful trails in the region. Bethpage State Park is more than just a park — it’s a piece of nature, history, and recreation all wrapped together. It’s gorgeous, peaceful, and endlessly enjoyable. Truly one of Long Island’s gems.

Well worth the travel to play the most difficult public course in America. The people's country club did not disappoint. It is long but very manageable if you check your ego at the door. The pace of play was surprisingly decent.

Sands Point Preserve is a stunning 216-acre estate located along Long Island Sound, featuring three castle-like mansions from the Guggenheim era. The grandeur of the preserve reflects an era of opulent summer retreats for wealthy families. Visitors can explore the stately Hempstead House, Castle Gould, and Falaise, which houses Renaissance paintings and 16th-century antiques. The park also offers dog-friendly hiking trails through wooded areas and landscaped gardens.
Beautiful park, well worth the price of admission. I love birdwatching here. A fantastic place to bring kids for an afternoon hike. They have a playground, a small beach (no swimming! It’s a nature preserve) and a 19th century mansion with an imitation castle-gatehouse. Really lovely gardens and a view of New Rochelle and the Connecticut coastline. Dog friendly, but make sure to follow leash laws.
Madeline J — Google review
Great to visit preserve even in cloudy weather. Modest admission fee per car is well worth it to maintain Gilded Age mansions and preserve trails. I’m not a fan of preserve’s parking lot. It is large, but cobblestone / grass cover leads to bumpy and uncomfortable parking experience. Highlights of the visit were beach / cliff walks and pond area. Mansions look impressive but gardens around them are just ok. Overall, variety of landscapes (beach, meadows, woods) and hiking opportunities made the visit memorable.
Mike Z — Google review
Its not awful, but its not great. It needs alot of improvement. Much better information on the property and where things are with things to do. Much better Information on trails go and what you will see, length, with activity level. This is not really for kids they will be bored very quick. The house tours are not handicap friendly and you should not have any limitations with walking and climbing stairs. Also area in front of the houses are uneven, sunken and high cobble stones. Also note theres no AC in house tours, very hot. This property is a one time visit. I hope the property improves areas of: what there is to do, better markers where things are, have hand out maps, and much better information.

When I first rescued my dog this was one of the 1st places I thought him. He immediately fell into the swampy area along the trails lol that was April 2024. It's been over a year and a half since then and we still love coming here. This place is magical. I love the castle and the flowers blooming and the trails!
Yugvf M — Google review
TThe landscape is truly stunning, featuring scenic trails and lush gardens that create a peaceful retreat for relaxation and reconnecting with nature. Book in advance for a guided tour of the castle. The property features two castles—Gould and Hempstead House—overlooking the bay with spectacular views. The grounds are beautifully maintained. We initially came to a casual visit to relax and explore turned into one of the most enjoyable mini getaways we’ve had in a while. The kids had a fantastic time at the play area and train ride. If you're visiting Long Island, don't miss the chance to explore Hempstead House at the Sands Point Preserve. If you're unfamiliar with the area, ensure your GPS is functioning properly. We experienced poor internet service and had to rely on security for directions to the highway.
Arvi K — Google review
Joseph, the docent, was amazing and knowledgeable about the history of the land & the buildings. He made it fun & we didn't want the tour to end!
Lynn — Google review
Beautiful scenic preserve . We visited and there was a dog costuming event taking place, and we didn't feel welcomed by the other visitors, but still managed to enjoy the views and scenery. We had hoped to go on one of the tours they offer, but it had been canceled that day. We paid $15 to get in, there's plenty of parking, but not much to do other than walk around and observe nature. They have a self guided bird watching tour as well, but we didn't stay to do it. If ever I go back, I'd be equipped with a blanket and a picnic spread. There's a lovely view of the long island sound.

Nice place for an easy hike or ride. Just a heads up. There is a wide open field for an RC model club. It's best to keep clear of the area or proceed with caution. The aircraft can be dangerous. Avoid the field when there are flyers there. They pay for the permit and field maintenance and are not being disrespectful if they ask you to clear the area. They're just being careful.

West Hill County Park consists of three (two, really) sections: WHCP-West and WHCP-East separated by Sweet Hollow road. Both West and East sections have their parking lots. West parking is located off Highhold Dr. (40.813286, -73.437325), and this is a parking lot and official entrance as believed by google map. The East Parking is located at (40.801256, -73.421759) off Sweet Hollow road. Google map shows this as a turn to gravel road (Ridge dr). There is a large parking lot there, restrooms, several picnic areas, and a dog park. There are trails connecting East and west sections. To the South of West Hill County Park, separated by the Northern Parkway, there is West Hills Nature preserve. The only access to this area I am aware of is a small roadside parking (3-4 cars) at 40.795993, -73.421430 near the West Hill Preserve trailhead. We hiked both section. This East section is where Jaynes hill is – the highest point on Long Island. There are multiple trail some for people, some shared with horses, so watch where you are stepping :) Trails are well marked and maintained. We did not follow a specific trail but walked along a long loop along the edges of the park . The entire trip was just under 4 miles, given our wandering here and there. You can shorten it as there are many parallel trails that allow to cut this loop. If you add the Western section you can easily create a 7-9 mile "loop". The Western Section was disappointing. large section of WHCP-West is occupied by the youth camping ground that is apparently used by the scouts. It is fairly beaten down, with a bunch of wooden shelters and countless signs of intense human activity. This part is neither beautiful nor interesting. The return trail goes along Northern State parkway, which is noisy and messy. The only interesting part of the trail is the northern section from the end of the Mt.Misery Road to an abandoned parking lot at Gwynnne Road with crossing to the WHCP-East
Yurii C — Google review
I had a good time here! Nice and easy hiking trails. If your a local or about an hour away I would suggest checking this place out. Lots of horses and a nice open picnic area and dog park. Friendly people too.

Decent walking trails. Gradual inclines. No views whatsoever, even when the leaves are off the trees. Jaynes Hill is not a destination - just a sign at the top of a hilly road.
Philip I — Google review
Nice clean walking trails. Easy to follow. Great location. Some areas were muddy, waterproof hiking shoes recommended.
Kundan S — Google review
Interesting place. I parked where the dog park is and there was a horse barn next to it. I had no idea where to find the trail heads. I used my Google maps to help get around everywhere. The trails were mostly good. There were some wet and muddy spots but overall decent footing. Some spots had bad footing. I would say it's a good walking trail and I was running it. I wish they did different colored loops around the trails. There were a lot of ways to go and I had to keep stopping to make sure I wasn't going to get lost. If I could just follow a loop that would have been easier.

One of the best places to visit. Beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean along with amazing view if the coast line. Light house and its surrounding area is very clean and well maintained. Very pretty lighthouse at the end of the island. Unfortunately it closes quite early so I didn’t get a chance to go up to the top. Enjoyed the views though, and the beach. Parking lot can be a bit confusing, had to google what the vehicle use fees meant. Still confused, but looks like they are only charged during certain hours.

Gorgeous. Nestled along the picturesque Connetquot River, the Bayard Cutting Arboretum spans an impressive 691 acres and serves as a tranquil retreat for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike. Originally envisioned in 1936 by Olivia James, this stunning estate was designed to be both a serene escape and an educational hub showcasing the beauty of informal planting. Visitors can explore its diverse landscapes featuring 13 unique plant collections, all while soaking in the charm of its historic mansion—though currently closed to tours.
The first time I visited was fall. Then I visited again in Spring. Different seasons have different impression but all beautiful. .. Attached a few pictures for your enjoyment 😊 It's a state park so you pay$8 admission. However, it's free today... Probably it's off season? You also no need to pay if you are senior and visit on a weekday. There are plenty parkings, a restaurant, and clean restrooms. Plenty of flowers in spring time and foliage was so pretty in fall. I love walking along the lake and get on the Breezy Island. The park is big so it's not crowded. You can spot some birds there easily...I even saw a few wild turkeys today!!
V N — Google review
The Arboretum is clean and beautiful. The trails are mostly either paved, pebbled, or solid dirt. The lake is stunning, and there are many pathways to get different angles of it. There are a couple of bridges, benches, and a gazebo in the middle. There is a section with a chicken coop and a beautiful floral display. An open field features some historical informative signs about the area. It's a great place for a hike, leisurely walking, enjoying a simple meal at the on-site café, and exploring the historical plants and house decor. There's also a gift shop and charging stations for electric vehicles. One thing I would like to mention is that it does cost a small fee to park.

It offers various hiking trails, including the Butterfly Garden, where you can spend an entire day exploring the 305-acre refuge. The park features forests, ponds, and a pine grove with rare dwarf pines. Additionally, it houses native New York animals that have been injured and cannot be released into the wild.

This is saved under one of my favorite escapes from the city. They have beautiful, easy trails that immerse you in nature. They also have animal rescues and rehabilitated animals as well - from owls, to falcons, to eagles, to possums and tortoises! In the visitor’s center, they have reptiles and insects! It’s a great place to clear your mind, do some light aerobic activity, or to educate your young kids. The place is maintained well and is clean. The staff are friendly and engaging. They offer so many free activities and programs. It’s never full any time I’ve gone either so I’m a bit weary to promote it because I want to keep it an IYKYK kind of gem, but a place like this that offers so much beauty and help for free should be shared. We are blessed with this refuge. It is unfortunate that the Asian pine beetle killed a lot of the pine trees. They are showing progress on cleaning it up and I am sure the refuge will recover.

Caleb Smith State Park Preserve, a 543-acre bucolic retreat, was once a private estate in the 18th century and has since become a national park. The park boasts two branches of the Nissequogue River, enriching its wildlife and scenic beauty. Visitors can explore color-coded trails that wind through forests and along streams. It's a nature lover's paradise with stunning hiking trails offering serene views and peaceful surroundings away from city life.
Good trails but difficult without an app tracking where you are. There's signs on the trails with color coding but there's a lot of overlapping which may be what is confusing. Alot of deer!

Great for a non-aggressive Nature walk, groomed marked paths, nice for little kids, easy walking and easy paved paths for enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Recently visited, it was a great experience! The trails are well-marked and maintained, easy to navigate. The park staff were friendly and helpful. A hidden gem that provides a wonderful escape into nature. Highly recommended!

Nice park for a hike and spending time with kids. Nestled in the heart of Smithtown, it allows visitors to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy the peaceful serenity of nature. Children, 15 and under, can fish on Willow Pond from April 1st to October 31st. Also, Fly fishing on the Nissequogue River is available from April 1st to October 15th (NYS freshwater fishing license and reservations required). You can take fishing lessons too. Bikes are not allowed in the park. The Nature Museum showcases natural history exhibits including a Great Blue Heron, Red Fox, Flying Squirrel and a River Otter. You can get a park map from there. The color-coded hiking trails in the park are challenging for first-time visitors as they converge in some areas, displaying multiple colors and directions. To improve navigation, each hiking section in each part of the park should have a designated color and separate colors for connecting paths.

This place is so beautiful with great Long Island history. It’s nice to walk around the trails. There is a bunch of history written about the wyandanch club that used to be there. A lot of people bring their families here and take photos, especially around peak fall season. Nice!

Nissequogue River State Park is a public park located on protected wetlands, offering various activities such as bird watching, canoeing, and kayaking. The park features the Nissequogue River Paddle Route, which meanders alongside the river through trails and old roads. Visitors can also explore the abandoned Kings Park Asylum within the park's boundaries.

In previous visits of this park I spent time hiking northern section of the park along Nissequogue River up to LI Sound. River views are beautiful any time of the year. This time I have explored southern section of the park checking out ruins of psychiatric hospital along Kings Park Blvd. Most buildings are in such dilapidated and vandalized state beyond restoration, that it is not clear why they weren’t demolished (at least below St Johnland Rd). This state park has huge unrealized recreational potential, it could fit several new trails in southern section.
Mike Z — Google review
A very strange feeling from the park. It was a very warm and absolutely windless day, the water in the river was like a mirror, absolutely motionless. But such a huge number of abandoned buildings that seemed to have been abandoned in one day! Of course, on Wikipedia it is written that the psychiatric center was closed by decision of the state authorities, there is a detailed description of the activities of this center... But there remains a depressing and strange feeling that there was a lot of something strange here... Probably, if you believe in the transmigration of souls and so on, this the place is filled with oddities and attracts people who would like to do their own investigation. But it's not for me. To be honest, this is probably the only park that I would not like to visit again. I don’t know... It’s a very strange feeling…

Beautiful waterfront scenery with trails for walking and mountain biking all surrounded by mostly abandoned psychiatric buildings. When walking along the bluff you will see a trail heading down to the water which is fun and challenging. However, we discovered a set of stairs up and down the bluff after the hike down 😂.

Had an excellent experience with the guided cub scout hike. The scouts learned how to identify different types of trees by leaves and the different types of plants that are found in the park. Our guide also went into the history of the park. There are many old abandoned buildings on the site that nature is gradually reclaiming.

Very peaceful and beautiful place. There is a very good bike path but might be a little spooky to be biking or jogging alone as some buildings are overgrown with trees and may feel very deserted, even in the broad daylight . You can also go down to the beach from stairs.

one of my favorite places to birdwatch given the diverse habitats over a relatively small area. the KPPC ruins give it a dystopian feel that can be hauntingly beautiful, and add to the fun of exploring here!

Nice place to see. It has old medical "diagnostics" facilities that has been abandoned a long time, and so they leave an uneasy feelings. Otherwise, the grounds and hiking trails are beautiful along the north shore of the island

Central Park is a breathtaking green sanctuary nestled in the bustling heart of New York City, offering an escape from the urban hustle. Established in 1857, this iconic park spans over 800 acres, making it larger than London's Hyde Park. Visitors can meander along scenic walking paths and expansive lawns while discovering a plethora of attractions. From the enchanting Alice in Wonderland statue to Belvedere Castle perched on Vista Rock, every corner reveals something new.
If there was a perfect city park, this would be it. It just is an amazing park. You can go for a stroll in the woods, sun bath in a grass meadow, see great entertainment, much of it free, rent a row boad on the lake, people watch and so much more. When you are in the park, in some areas it might not even seem like you are still in the city. Anyone visiting NYC should take the time to walk through and explore the park. There is an amazing zoo, a carousel, ice skating rink, and even a castle in the park. The pictures are of the reservoir at the north end of the park.

Central Park is more than just the heart of New York City — it’s the city’s soul. Spanning over 840 acres, this green oasis feels like a peaceful escape wrapped inside the chaos of Manhattan. The moment you step in, the city noise fades, replaced by the rustle of leaves, the laughter of joggers, and the sound of musicians under the bridges. Every corner of the park tells a story. From the romantic Bow Bridge arching gracefully over the lake to the grand Bethesda Terrace overlooking the fountain, it’s a photographer’s dream and a wanderer’s paradise. The pathways curve through gardens, open meadows, and quiet wooded areas — perfect for a morning run, a lazy picnic, or simply sitting on a bench and watching life pass by. What makes Central Park truly special is how it reflects the rhythm of New York itself. On one side, artists sketch and performers play violins; on the other, kids race their bikes while couples row across the lake. In winter, the Wollman Rink sparkles with skaters, and in spring, the cherry blossoms paint the park in pastel shades. Whether you’re a tourist seeing it for the first time or a local escaping your busy schedule, Central Park never feels the same twice. It’s timeless yet ever-changing — a living masterpiece right in the middle of skyscrapers. In a city that never sleeps, Central Park reminds you to breathe, slow down, and simply be. ⭐ Rating: 5/5 A must-visit — not just for its beauty, but for the peace and inspiration it offers.

Central Park is an urban park between the Upper West Side and Upper East Side neighborhoods of Manhattan in New York City, and the first landscaped park in the United States. It is the sixth-largest park in the city, containing 843 acres (341 ha), and the most visited urban park in the United States, with an estimated 42 million visitors annually as of 2016. Central Park is owned by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation but has been managed by the Central Park Conservancy since 1998 under a contract with the government of New York City in a public–private partnership. I was absolutely fascinated by Central Park. I was expecting chaos but instead found an incredible sense of calm and a true spectacle of nature. What impressed me most was how clean and well-kept everything was. The autumn colors were beautiful, the atmosphere was peaceful (loved seeing the squirrels and horse-drawn carriages!), and the contrast of the green trees against the city skyscrapers is something you have to see to believe. It’s a stunning oasis in the middle of Manhattan. Highly recommended for a peaceful escape!

After the watching the 'Stranger Things: The First Shadow' Broadway show at the Marquis Theatre on W46th St & 7th Ave, we walked the 0.7 miles up 7th Ave to the Central Park entrance at W59th St where I had my first NYC Hotdog from the Nathan's Hotdog stand. It was very tasty if a tad small for $6. We only walked in a very small section of the vast 843 acres, 2.5 miles long and 0.5 miles wide park, from the W59th St & 7Ave entrance to the Model Sailing Boat Lake and could have spent several days explore the different sections of this vast beautiful space, which is enjoyed daily by some many local New Yorkers and tourists. There were lots of people relaxing on the grass, walking, jogging, running, cycling & rollerblading through the park, together with rickshaws and horse drawn carriages carrying their passengers on the one directional circular road running around inside the park. We stopped off at the Le Pain Quotidien kiosk next to the Model Boating Lake for hot drinks & pastries at one of the tables, enjoying the late evening sunshine whilst watching people going by and children sailing their rented remote controlled model boats in the lake. There are public male & female toilets either side of the kiosk and a table service section for a selection of food & drinks. It wasn't too busy when we were there around 6pm on a Saturday evening and it was the perfect place to sit down, take a break, relax and watch the world go by in Central Park whilst enjoying a drink. We were fortunate to be there to listen to the famous Central Park guitar man, David Ippolito, playing some beautiful guitar music from across the boating lake opposite our table, in his regular Saturday slot. On our walk to the Model Boating Lake we passed the 1,800 seat open air Delacorte amphitheater inside the park, where free public shows of Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night' were being performed. My wife is a big fan of Shakespeare's plays and would have loved to have gone to see the play. However, as the vast majority of tickets were allocated via lottery to NYC residents we would have had to queue up in person in a standby line outside the theatre on the day, in the hope of getting one of these few ticket allocations and I didn't like Shakespeare enough to do that. As it was such beautiful warm late summer we decided to walk the 2.2 miles down Lexington Ave, from the park at 74th St down to our hotel at 36th St. Although it took a lot longer than taking the subway we really enjoyed seeing more of the city on foot.

The High Line is a renowned elevated park built on an old railway line, offering stunning views of the city and the river. This 1.45-mile-long linear park in Manhattan was transformed from an abandoned railway viaduct into a popular public space in 2009. Designed by Dutch landscape architect Piet Oudolf, the park features a continuous walkway surrounded by gardens with diverse plant species that thrived on the disused rail line.
This is a beautiful walk with nice photo ops and places to rest asking the way. There are sculptures, paintings, and snack stands. Signs along the way give a little bit about what you're looking at. The walk is easy and well maintained. We really enjoyed it.

This is the best part of NYC for me. A previously abandoned above ground railway has been transformed into a park above the streets of downtown Manhattan. They are also growing lots of plants, wild herbs and flowers to bring life and greenery into this corner of the city. It's good to see they're continually expanding it. I especially love being able to sit and read or watch the world go by at the giant window midway through the park. An innovative way to repurpose an historic part of the city.

This is such a cool walking path/pedestrian route for anyone wanting to walk near the Hudson Yard area to Pier 57/Chelsea Market. Lots of green spaces and natural plantings with the old railroad lines, and places with stairs and elevators to go down to street level. Nice way to see some cool buildings and avoid traffic and stoplights. You can enter near the Vessel in Hudson Yard area, or end there if you start above the Chelsea Market.

Bryant Park, located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, is a popular 4-acre green space behind the NY Public Library's main branch. It offers a relaxing break from the city with lush gardens, benches, and shady spots. The park hosts various events throughout the year including summer movie nights, fitness classes, live concerts, and art installations. In winter, visitors can enjoy ice skating and browse through Christmas markets while sipping on mulled wine.
I absolutely love Bryant Park – it has such a unique atmosphere. Nestled right in the middle of the skyscrapers, it’s a super eventful and vibrant place. During my visit to New York, I went there multiple times and had the chance to attend both movie nights and yoga sessions. It’s amazing how there are so many activities happening in the park every single day!

My favorite place in NYC. I love to get a coffee & pastry at a local Cafe and just sit. I could easily stay for hours. Holiday time is a different story- too much chaos. But any other time is perfection.
Simone P — Google review
Prior to a visit to NYC 10 years ago for my wife's 50th birthday celebrations in Sep 2015 we had never heard of Bryant Park, which we discovered to our great delight whilst we were staying in a hotel opposite the Port Authority Bus Terminal, which is nearby. It's a 9.6 acre privately managed public park that provides provides a very welcomed green oasis of calm & tranquility away from the frenzied chaos of Time Square just 1 block away in mid-town Manhattan. There's always lots of free activities for the public to enjoy all year round inside the park - my wife really enjoyed an open air performance of Shakespeare's play 'Much Ado About Nothing' in 2015, which was a highlight of her visit. So when we returned to NYC to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday in Sep 2025 we made sure we booked a hotel (The Shelburne Sonesta on Lexington Ave) that was within easy walking distance of Bryant Park so we could enjoy the park and daily activities within it. During our latest visit we enjoyed 2x free morning yoga sessions, a piano concert and numerous trips to the cafes within and around the park. There was a very full schedule of activities and musical concerts for every one of the 12 days of our trip that could have kept us at the park all day, everyday. We also visited the Main Branch of the New York Public Library at the Eastern end of the park and what are, in my wife's opinion, the best free public toilets she's ever used on our travels, that are kept spotlessly clean by a no nonsense Asian lady who managed the constant queues of customers to the toilets in one corner of the park very firmly. They had beautiful fresh flower arrangements on display, soothing classic music playing and Japanese style toilets that automatically roll out a paper cover over the toilet seat after each flush. If we ever visit NYC in the winter we would love to attend the activites within the Winter Village at the park, with its centrepiece 17,000 sq ft ice rink with free-admission ice skating, high quality rental skates, free skating shows and events.

I recently visited this lovely park that truly offered a scenic experience. The atmosphere was peaceful, and I felt completely safe throughout my time there. One of the highlights was the abundance of seating options, with plenty of tables available for visitors to relax and enjoy their surroundings. Plus there were packs of well behaved teenagers there. I feel old seeing that but it was nice to see. While we were there, we discovered a great area with 20+ tables where we set up our Ring camera and tripod. We took some time to film a quick video, which took about 20 minutes and then left. Next time we visit, we're planning to explore the library at the top of the stairs. Nice experience.

This is my SECOND time visiting the Bryant Park Winter Market 2025 in one week! I absolutely love it! For as long as i can remember my family and I have been coming here! I only took a pic of the Biang Biang noodles and OMG they were so good! A little bit spicy but not unbearable. I also had a Cheesesteak by the Truffliest that was 10/10. The spud potato could be a skip. Strawberro Dubai Chocolate never disappoints. Hot chocolate wise… No Chewing Aloud for rich authentic chocolate, Smores nMore for AMAZING marshmallow dipped hot chocolate (not too chocolatey or thick). I could go on and on but JUST GO!

I loved this park. It is small but packed with activities and people from different backgrounds; families, office workers, tourists, everyone. In warm months you get lawn movies, free classes, and plenty of chairs to just sit and relax; in winter it turns into a festive market. Easy to pop in for a walk, a short jog around the perimeter, or a quiet moment with a coffee. For such a small park, it has everything.

Washington Square Park, located in the heart of Greenwich Village, is a historic and vibrant public space that offers prime people-watching opportunities. The park features a stately arch and is a popular spot for locals, NYU students, families, and tourists. It's known for its diverse array of activities including musicians, jugglers, chess players, street artists, and skateboarders.
Pretty interesting spot that deserves at least a visit. I have been here at least 4 times during my trips to NYC in the last decade and had a great experience every one of them. People come here to connect with art, have fun and chill. As any place in Manhattan, there is always a nearby subway station. The best times to visit are early in the morning when there are less people or during sunset which delivers the best colors and pictures.

This square has a European feel to it. It is a nice place to visit though a section of the park seems to attract drug users. Be vigilant especially if you visit with kids. I love the live music vibe here. As for the psychics that offer their services here, I am yet to be in their company.

Washington Square Park has such a relaxed vibe. It's a lovely place to sit by the fountain, enjoy the sunshine, and watch the mix of people passing by. Washington Square Park is one of the most iconic and lively places in New York City. Located in the heart of Greenwich Village, it’s full of energy, music, and life all day long. The famous Washington Arch creates a beautiful entrance and makes the park instantly recognizable. The fountain area is always buzzing with activity — people chatting, musicians performing, and students relaxing between classes. It’s the perfect spot to sit, listen to live music, or just enjoy watching the crowd. The atmosphere feels welcoming and creative, showing the real spirit of New York. You’ll often see chess players, artists sketching, and street performers adding charm to the park. It’s clean, fairly safe, and surrounded by great cafés where you can grab coffee or snacks. During evenings, lights around the fountain and arch make it even more beautiful. Whether you’re a tourist, a student, or a local, Washington Square Park never feels boring. Every visit brings a new vibe and something different to enjoy. It’s a must-visit destination that perfectly captures the culture, diversity, and energy of downtown Manhattan.

I visited Washington Park and honestly, it wasn’t great for a family visit. The park is always packed with college students, and there’s a noticeable smell of urine and marijuana. I wouldn’t recommend going there with kids. It’s better suited for adults looking for a lively, college-town vibe rather than a family-friendly outing.

Whenever we visit NYC we try to spend some time in the funky, vibrant and colourful Washington Square Park, which is a 9.75-acre public park in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan. It's a meeting place and center for cultural activity, dominated by the Washington Square Arch at the northern gateway to the park and the large fountain in front of it. The park has a tradition of celebrating nonconformity attracting many students from the surrounding NYU (New York University) and you could get high from just inhaling the smoke from all the cannabis joint being smoked without having to smoke one yourself 🤣 There was a diversity of people of all ages & nationalities enjoying the hot late summer sun in the park, playing chess, cooling off in the sunken seats next to the big fountain, together with vendors, artists and musicians - there was a slightly edgey feel within the park, but not in a bad nervous feeling way🤔

I always enjoy coming here but feels its changing and not for the better. Certain people ruin the experience behaving like idiots and unruly. Besides that its a chill park and you'll see all types of people from all different backgrounds. Which match the neighborhood. Since there are a couple of schools in the area you'll see plenty of college age people. Park has a fountain at its center which is also great for pictures park offers picnic areas, restrooms and playground. You'll find people panting like playing board games and much more. I've been coming here for years to chill and do some people watching. Today I was lucky to catch a free show of two bands performing.

Brooklyn Bridge Park is a must-visit urban oasis in New York City. It offers shaded picnic tables, hibachi-style BBQ grills, and stunning views of the river. The park is part of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge walk, which provides some of the best views and photo spots in the city. Watching the 4th of July fireworks from the park was truly an unforgettable experience! 🇺🇸✨ The atmosphere was filled with excitement and joy as families, friends, and strangers all gathered to celebrate together. I arrived early to find a good spot, and it was totally worth it — the view was perfect, with a clear line of sight to the stunning fireworks display. The park itself added so much to the experience — it was spacious, clean, and full of positive energy. People were picnicking, playing music, and enjoying the warm summer evening while waiting for the show to begin. Once the fireworks started, the entire sky lit up with vibrant colors and synchronized bursts that were absolutely breathtaking. There’s something magical about watching fireworks under the open sky, surrounded by a crowd that’s just as amazed as you are. It felt like the perfect way to celebrate Independence Day. I’m already looking forward to doing it again next year!

Brooklyn Bridge Park is one of those places that makes you stop and appreciate the city from a whole new angle. The views are incredible—looking out at the skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and of course the Brooklyn Bridge itself feels almost surreal. The park is beautifully designed, with plenty of spots to relax, walk, or just take it all in. It’s also easy to get around, with clear paths and different sections that each have their own charm. Whether you’re there for a stroll, photos, or just to sit and watch the world go by, it never disappoints. More than just a park, it feels like a front-row seat to New York’s magic. Definitely a must-visit.

Perfect view of the Manhattan skyline. Perfect for photographers, lovers and tourists. On a clear day, anyone can take great photos of the river, the skyline and the bridge itself. There is seating and a few food vendors. And you get an up-close view of the ferry as it launches and lands right next door.

Beautiful park with chill city views of Lower Manhattan! The breezy and calming nature paths make it perfect for a relaxing walk. Enjoy street vendors and local stores for a quick bite, and take a break in one of the many quiet seating areas throughout the rehabilitated piers. Pro tip: get yourself a hot coffee or cold brew at the nearby 0% Arabica

Brooklyn Bridge Park, an 85-acre “sustainable waterfront park”, is great for all ages. There are a lot of bathrooms, benches, walking trails, playgrounds, water/sprinkler areas, swings, slides, jungle gyms, and a ferry stop. They have soccer fields, sand volleyball courts, hand ball courts, basketball courts, picnic areas, public grilles and barbecue areas. At the end of some piers, you’ll find two sinks and a table to easily clean and pack whatever fish you catch. There’s even a sandy beach that allows you to walk to the water. There’s an area to roller skate or play roller hockey near the basketball, ping pong, pickleball courts. Each pier at the Brooklyn Bridge Park takes you into a different uniquely curated experience. It has winding trails, surrounded by trees. You can forget you’re in New York City. Then, you’ll make it out to the other side and be met with a beautiful view of Lower Manhattan. If you look just south of the city, you’ll see Governor’s Island and beyond that, the Statue of Liberty. In the other direction, you’ll see the Brooklyn Bridge and up to Midtown Manhattan, identified by the Chrysler and Empire State Buildings. If you’re purpose is to picnic and you want to bring take away, start at Pier 1. The Dumbo area, on the way to the entrance of the park, has pizza by the pie places and a Luke’s Lobster (and a ton of other options). Grab some food and head into the park. You can kayak here. They also hold public movie screenings and live music. The website for Brooklyn Bridge Park has everything you’ll need to plan your trip. Pier 6 is filled with trees, trails, playgrounds, and sitting areas. Between Pier 5 and 6 is the sand volley ball courts. Pier 5 is the soccer fields with a fishing area at the end of it. Between Pier and 5 and 3, you’ll find the barbecue peninsula and beach area. Pier 3 is another beautiful green space with trails, lawns, and benches. Pier 2 holds most of the courts and the roller rink. Pier 1 holds the largest lawn areas with gorgeous views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the city with a lot of green space and more walking trails.

Prospect Park, Brooklyn's answer to Central Park, was designed by the same architects and boasts similar attractions. The park features lakes, boathouses, zoos, and a picturesque trail called the Ravine with its own waterfalls. Inspired by the Adirondack Mountain range in Upstate New York, this area of the park offers a serene escape within the city. Visitors can explore a 3.
Prospect Park is a true escape from the hustle and bustle of New York City, nestled right in the center of Brooklyn. Often overshadowed by its more famous counterpart, Central Park, Prospect Park offers a similarly stunning natural retreat—but with a fraction of the crowds. That’s what makes it so special. The park is immaculately clean, filled with expansive green spaces, shaded areas that offer a break from the summer heat, and beautifully maintained walking paths. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful solo walk, a family picnic, or a fun day with children, this park has something for everyone. There are several playgrounds scattered throughout the park, making it an ideal destination for families with young kids. One of the highlights is the Prospect Park Zoo, a charming, small zoo with a surprisingly wide variety of animals. Tickets are reasonably priced—around $11 for adults—and the experience is well worth it. Another favorite among children is the carousel, which brings old-school joy and nostalgia. A ride costs only $3, and the smiles on the children’s faces are priceless. What truly sets Prospect Park apart is its peaceful atmosphere. You won’t find the overwhelming crowds or endless streams of tourists here. Instead, you’ll find space to breathe, relax, and enjoy nature at your own pace. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, I highly recommend setting aside a few hours to explore this Brooklyn treasure. You’ll leave feeling refreshed, inspired, and maybe even a little more in love with New York City.

Came to see the movies in the Park, Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Weather was amazing! They give you these like lawn chairs but it’s on the ground, you can keep them, easy to carry. Free popcorn, seltzer water and T-Shirts. Very nice for the kids to run around while getting some fresh air. Sound was good to the speaker tower placement and no bad seats. Movie stared around 7:40, waiting for the sun to go down. Everyone was peaceful and cleaned up behind themselves after the movie was over. Did I mention, it was free? Can’t go wrong. Movie ended about 9:45 and walking back through the park, good lighting. No worries but again, I wasn’t alone. Good evening.

This park is very spacious, clean and perfect for walks or other family and friends activities or just looking to detach yourself from the busyness of city life. Its proximity to the train station and nearby cafes and restaurants make it attractive too. So if you’re visiting Brooklyn or looking for another alternative park other than Central Park, this is the place to be.

Very nice escape located centrally in Brooklyn. Walking through it you can experience peaceful rural areas, or see Brooklyn’s diversity in the more crooked areas. It’s a bit dirty in spots, and difficult to keep up with cleaning due to the amount of people that visit the park. Great for a run, bike ride, or simply to relax at. The restrooms are very limited, and only the one on the large building is somewhat passable. The other one on the west side near the playground is less cared for, as is the other two in the center and East side.

I visited a couple of weeks ago, right as fall color peaked. I grabbed a coffee and wandered the winding paths in Brooklyn: leaves crunching under my shoes, trees shifting from gold to deep red, and that crisp, clean air. There’s room for everyone—you can stroll by the water, sit on a bench, and watch the foliage reflect on the surface. What I liked most is how the city noise fades into the background, leaving just the wind and a few quiet conversations. There are big open lawns for relaxing and tucked-away corners if you want solitude. I spent a few hours there and left clear-headed—a perfect spot to soak up autumn.

I remember during covid this park as many parks in each Boro became such important places. From people who have roommates and needed a little space to excicise professionals and the once in while walkers and bikers in the park. It's really a great park . At some points in the park you can barely see the rest of Brooklyn and there are bird watchers of the variety of birds in the park. My wife and I would walk and talk or listen to music on our headphones. There are barbecues and birthday parties or sunbathing in the warmer months. From food bizarre yoga classes .the park peace officers and NYPD is a constant patrol.

A fantastic urban oasis, easily accessible by public transport and walking - we come from Astoria, Queens by taking the N train to Queensboro plaza then walking the rest of the way through lovely Long Island City that has undergone amazing improvements for the better in the last 3 decades. There’s so much to do here in the park. You can sit down to look at the river and the stunning views across the water, go for a walk along the winding paths, watch people play beach volleyball or kids running around, laugh at the many dogs having a field day, take a ferry or have a picnic… the choice of having a beautifully peaceful time is yours!

This park is incredibly peaceful and offers plenty of things to do. There’s a playground for kids, a dog park, and sand volleyball courts—perfect for playing year-round, though especially fun in the summer. It’s also a very popular route for runners, and I can see why—it’s spacious, clean, and relaxing. From my point of view, it has some of the best views of the Manhattan skyline. The sunsets here are absolutely stunning and worth staying for. A perfect place to unwind, exercise, or just enjoy the scenery.

Much of the crowd is by northern end. The bottom half of the park is largely empty, but still fairly nice. The pathways and park is very well maintained with many exploring the riverside scenery. The view from the Hunter point library is quite spectacular.

The park is on the river bank, and you have the skyline of New York City in front of you. You can appreciate some history of the city when seeing the heavy unloading machinery on the edge of the bank. Food festival is another attraction. Very nice casual place inside a busy, crowded urban city.

Old Westbury Gardens is a 200-acre property featuring a historic mansion surrounded by formal botanical gardens. The estate, once owned by John Shaffer Phipps, offers daily guided tours and has been featured in numerous films and TV shows. Visitors can explore the formal European gardens with statues, fountains, and boxwood hedges, as well as the woodlands, ponds, and lakes on the property. The mansion itself is an architectural marvel with its unique Collyweston slate roof.
Old Westbury Gardens is such a beautiful spot! The mansion and the grounds are absolutely stunning, and it feels like stepping into another time. The gardens are really well kept, and there are so many different areas to explore. The Mansion history is really neat too. You can easily spend a few hours or all day just wandering. It’s peaceful, relaxing, and also great for photos. The staff are friendly, and the whole place has a really welcoming feel. Our curator was amazing too. It’s a perfect for a walk, a picnic, or just a quiet day out.

Beautiful mansion, so much history inside. It Was built for the Phipps family. So much land, so much trees, plants and birds. The yard has 2 pools, one of them is huge, huge. There's a lake and pond with gold fishes, statues and plenty benches to sit on as you take in the wonderful site. I would say though that the outside needs a little tlc like the pool/fountain closest to the house the water is very murky, with huge amounts of leaves in it. The inside of the mansion has wonderful furnishings and has been well cared for. The guided tour was very informative, really enjoyed it. So much to say about this place, its wonderful part of history.

Today we visited the old Westbury gardens, we bought our tickets in advance (recommended) We arrived and immediately were welcomed by friendly staff. The first person I approached (we had a bag which were weren't aware is not allow) was Kenny Cleare. He offered to store our bag, free of charge. Secondly we met Joan who gave us a house tour. She has so much knowledge, and speaks with so much passion. You don't want her to stop talking. Everything in this house is an antique, beautiful and expensive. The history is so interesting. Kenny, I want to say Thank You for being so humble and so extremely friendly and helpful. We will never forget you. I pray that one day you will experience Cape Town, South Africa as your sister did. You will have an amazing experience. We were honored to meet you and Joan today. The amount of joy and passion you have for your work incredible. God Bless and we hope to see you soon , when we're back on Long Island, NY

As a Long Island Photographer, I highly recommend Old Westbury Gardens! We recently had the honor of documenting a surprise marriage proposal here, and the experience was truly exceptional, solidifying its status as one of the best locations for wedding portraits and proposals on Long Island. The grounds are simply stunning, offering endless backdrops—from the gorgeous architecture to the manicured gardens—making it an ideal wedding venue location for romantic, high-end photography. Crucially, the staff and coordination team were an absolute joy to work with. They are professional, responsive, and incredibly friendly, which ensures the day runs smoothly for the couple and for all vendors. This makes the job of a proposal photographer or wedding photographer much easier and more enjoyable. If you are a couple planning a Long Island wedding, a special photo session, or the perfect proposal, you must put Old Westbury Gardens at the top of your list. We can't wait to be back here soon!

10/19/25 This historic home was, at one time, over 200 acres belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Phipps and their four children. Allow me to reiterate: this mansion, built during the waning years of the Gilded Age, and which had a full live-in staff, tennis courts, polo fields, and a working farm, was for a single family. (He made his fortune alongside Andrew Carnegie.) The grounds were absolutely beautiful and impeccably maintained, and the preservation and interpretation of history front and center in their recently added tour, Secrets of the Service Wing, which highlighted the individuals who ran the home. (Always far more interesting, don’t you think?) This included a look at the butler’s pantry, the silverware safe and linen cupboards (including original fabric imported from Ireland) even the wine cellar! Our guide, Cathy, was well-versed, knowledgeable, and personable. I highly recommend this special tour, but take note it's not offered everyday and needs advance ticket purchase. If you look at the included dining room photo, there are two paintings that really hammer home the wealth of this family: a Gainsborough and a Sargent!! That alone was worth the trip for me.

I was surprised to learn that this location was featured in the film What Happens in Vegas, but after visiting, I completely understand why. The island feels like a beautiful escape, so close to the busy energy of the Big Apple, yet peaceful and untouched. Even though swimming isn’t allowed, there’s so much to enjoy: walking along the shoreline, exploring the dunes, birdwatching, or simply relaxing while taking in the views. It’s the perfect spot to step away from the city and reconnect with nature. 🌊🌅

The Fire Island National Seashore is a truly magical place. Less than 60 miles from Times Square, it can seem worlds away. If you have the chance to go to the Otis Pike Wilderness, accessible from the East End of the park near Smith point, you will find beaches and dunes which are completely unspoiled - no structures, no signs, few people, nesting wildlife and just the sound of the surf and the birds - it’s truly liberating! Bring sunscreen, bug spray, a sun hat and drinking water as concessions are often miles away, mainly in the remaining beach communities from Davis Park to Fire Island Pines, Cherry Grove, Ocean Park and NPS concessions at Sailors Haven, and Watch Hill. The mainland locations for ferry access to the bulk of the barrier islands not connected by roads or bridges are Patchogue for Watch Hill and Sayville for Sailors Haven, Cherry Grove and Fire Island Pines.

When I think of New York, I generally think of a bustling city with lots of activity and excitement. I would never think that just outside of Long Island I could find a beautiful, natural retreat. But that’s exactly what Fireside Island National Seashore offers, a retreat back to nature to regroup and reflect. In addition to the seashore and boardwalk, we enjoyed the Light Station, Lighthouse Tower, museum and the gift shop. There are two buildings to explore, the Light Station and the Lighthouse Tower. The building that houses the Lighthouse Tower is also where you’ll find the the museum, restrooms and gift shop. (There is a cost to access the Tower, so please check the “Notable Mention” section of this post to see which discounts might apply to you and/or your group.) The beachfront is gorgeous and so pristine. It was a welcomed surprise to see all the different shells and birds. We also enjoyed the boardwalk which allowed us to take in the scenery without disturbing the natural habitat. All in all, this area was a great unexpected find, and we certainly hope to return! Notable Mentions: The Lighthouse Tower offers the following discounts: Active military are free! Veterans and Seniors receive a reduced rate Please Note: The tower is closed right now and will likely reopen in August 2023.

Avalon Nature Preserve is a nice place to go hiking. I’ve always enjoyed being outdoors, taking in the scenery, listening to the birds, and meeting others who share my love for mini adventures. Upon arriving, my husband and I parked in the Forest parking lot, which had ample parking spaces and a map, laying out available trail options. We began with the Hilltop Meadow, which we completed fairly quickly. After, we thought we’d challenge ourselves a bit more by taking on the Forest Sanctuary. We enjoyed this trail, although we sometimes had to look over our shoulders to investigate the noises around us. Everything kept us on our toes, from squirrels to deer, chipmunks, and other wildlife. The terrain may be difficult for some, due to the tree roots and the uphill climbs, but other than that, it was manageable. We appreciated that there were several signs posted throughout the park, helping us to keep track of our location. Additionally, there were warning signs reminding us of the possibility of tick exposure. One thing is for sure: we kept it moving and thoroughly checked our clothing afterwards. My favorite trail of the day was The Mill Pond. I loved the well-paved paths and the overall layout. I could’ve spent hours here. This is a very nice park that I highly recommend for those who enjoy the outdoors.

This is a beautiful place for a casual day trip in Stony Brook. The natural scenery is so breathtaking that photos look like your computer desktop pictures lol. It’s quite kid-friendly. We also ran into a few deer. They aren’t afraid of humans, so you can get really close for nice wildlife photos and videos. I took some that I share here. Great park! Parking is free and plenty. No ticket needed.

Beautiful park. When my "baby dog" was alive he LOVED this place, you never saw a dog more excited to take a stroll through the woods as this little guy was. The sights and sounds area tranquil. It's a quiet park even on the weekends. Most people stay by the duck pond feeding the ducks so the trails are very quiet. The park is large enough to find a quiet space to picnic or to just stroll on your own. Keep in mind there are NO public bathrooms here.

This place is beautiful beyond compare - such beautiful tall flowers while in bloom. Staff is very strict though.

It’s a great place to stop and enjoy! The walk through the area is really serene and impressive. Good enough for beginners, and long enough for a short day hike through the local area. You can tell they really keep up on the maintenance, the path is well maintained and some good steps and walk ways throughout. At the beginning is the pond, lots of ducks and swans good for bringing the kids, or taking in some nature. Occasionally the place does get a little crowded, and sometimes parking gets a little bottle necked from people trying to get a good spot. And right down the road from a good coffee/cafe too.

Camp Hero State Park, situated on Montauk Point, spans 415 acres and offers a diverse natural landscape with wooded areas, ocean vistas, beaches, and wetlands. Once a military base during WWII, the park now invites visitors to explore its rugged bluffs, tidal pools, and hiking trails while learning about its intriguing history and rumored connections to paranormal activity. The former Montauk Air Force Station's ruins can be seen along the trails.
Beautiful large State Park in Montauk, NY. Amazing views of the bluffs and the Atlantic Ocean. There are many trails to walk around through the woods and near the beach. There are also multiple picnic areas available. You can see great views of the Montauk Point Lighthouse. It was $8.00 to enter the state park with a vehicle. I would recommend checking out Camp Hero State Park.

This is one of Montauk’s most precious gems! Everyone comes to visit the historic Montauk lighthouse and drive right by the entrance to one of the most incredible pieces of WWII history! Walk the amazing trails, that take you through the various WWII batteries. Discover breathtaking ocean cliff private views! And of course the Safe Radar tower is a must! From the spooky rumors of top secret government programs like the Montauk Project to Operation MK ultra. Make sure to protect yourself with Deet the ticks are terrible! Plenty of beautiful spots for cookouts, complete with picnic tables and large charcoal grills! A must visit location!

Camp Hero State Park is one of our favorite place to hike. Weather has been warm so we went to hike here three times last week. As you walk the trail by the beach, you will see “hoodoo” formations. It has been eroded and losing more land every year we come by. As you walk alongside the beach, you can see surfers catching waves and fish popping up in the water. You can walk to lighthouse. Truly magical place to hike and spend the day when you are in Montauk.

One of my favorite places on long island, with a deep history as well as some mystery behind it. Some of the darkest skies are found here from my Milky Way Photography

One of the best places to hike on long island winter, spring, summer or fall! From the radar dish to the lighthouse, to seal haul out and back to radar you get so many great views and trail types. The cliffs along the south shore are not to be missed

I had a great hike with my dad all throughout camp hero, camp hero sanctuary and to the lighthouse. We found bunkers hidden in the woods of course sealed off. It would be amazing to open 1 up just to see what it looked like back then. We walked all over camp hero and the sanctuary. It was a great day and can't wait to come out here again. The bowling alley must have only been 2 lanes at best if you can find it.

I try to get here once a year. It's a beautiful park. Great dog walking park. It can be stroller friendly, if you have a large wheeled jogging stroller. Though, I don't recommend you bring strollers, unless you stay on the roads and flat trails. If you're planning on walking through the sand trails or small wooded trails you'll have a tough time. The area is beautiful and you'll learn a lot about the history of Camp Hero if you stop and read the plaques in the barracks.
Drea A — Google review
Great place to visit, and if you want to picnic. There are certain places that you can drive and certain areas that you can't, you will need to hike. There are bathrooms located on the park property and are clean and well maintained. Plenty of parking around the area. Please don't trespass where signs are posted. Wear comfortable sneakers if you plan to hike a little. Please see posted signs, especially at the Bluff Overlook. At the map of the area, there are maps and information about the park that are available below the large map. Please stay at the posted speed limit, there are people who are walking, hiking, and jogging on the road way.

Nature & Parks
Governors Island, a 172-acre former US Army base, is now a year-round public park accessible by ferry from Manhattan and Brooklyn. The island features forts, historic buildings, and green open spaces reminiscent of a small New England town. Visitors can enjoy biking along the waterfront, art shows, concerts, festivals, and family programs.
A peaceful escape just a short ferry ride away, perfect for a relaxed date or weekend hangout. Renting bikes is a fun way to explore the open spaces and scenic views, and there are plenty of cute spots to grab food or drinks. It feels calm but still full of things to do — from lounging in hammocks to walking by the water. A great mix of nature, good eats, and a little adventure without leaving the city.

It was awesome. I felt like I had traveled back in time. The organizers paid major attention to detail and made the experience smooth and enjoyable, from check-in to the time I left. My only suggestion is regarding the baskets for 2. There should have been 2 cookies and 2 pastries (one for each person). I'm already planning for next year.

What an experience ! I highly recommend to do it. It is a little adventure to go and spend the day over there. First you have to take the boat (the public one at $2,90 the trip) After you can spend the day in an empty "city". It looks a bit like a "ghost town". You can rent a city bike over there and just enjoy the day without any cars around you with some amazing photo spots of NYC/status of liberty in the background. Follow this account if you want to discover more fun activities to do in NYC, the Big 🍎. Victor

I visited Governors Island after some friends recommended it and booked us the QC NY Spa experience. Honestly, I’d never even heard of Governors Island before they mentioned it! We arrived at the Battery Maritime Building at Slip 7 just before 10 a.m., and the ferry line was already long. Pro tip: if you have a QC Spa reservation, the ferry is free. Boats run every 30 minutes, and the ride is only about 7 minutes, perfect for anyone like me who gets seasick, since it’s literally just across the water. With about 15 minutes to spare before our spa check-in, we wandered over to Castle Williams (aka the Haunted Fort). Built in 1811 as part of New York’s harbor defenses, it later served as a military prison and picked up a reputation for ghostly sightings and eerie stories. Rangers told us to come back at 4 p.m. for the historical artillery demonstration, where they show how cannons were loaded and fired back in the 1800s. Unfortunately, a heavy rainstorm cut our plans short, so we just lined up early for the ferry back. I was bummed we didn’t get to explore more of the island. I spotted food trucks and bike rentals that I’d love to check out next time. That’s okay though, it just gives me the perfect reason to come back and explore this historic and unique island a little deeper.

take the short ride with the ferry, enjoy the view of the manhattan skyline and find yourself in a surprising place with lots of visible and explorable history, hidden gems like bird watching stations, gardening projects, hammocks and restaurants ... somehow mixed with a distinctive diy vibe. take one of the citibikes for a tour around the island 🚲

Governors Island is simply breathtaking — a true hidden gem of New York that combines history, nature, and pure beauty in the most wonderful way. The moment you step off the ferry, you feel like you’ve entered a completely different world, far removed from the noise and rush of Manhattan. What makes the island so special is its unique blend of wide open green spaces, quiet shaded corners, and stunning views of the Statue of Liberty and the skyline. The natural beauty here is remarkable: rolling meadows, tree-lined paths, colorful flowers, and art installations that blend perfectly with the landscape. It’s the kind of place where you just want to slow down, breathe deeply, and take it all in. Walking or biking around the island is pure joy. Everywhere you look, there’s something beautiful — from the old historic buildings to the peaceful waterfront. The atmosphere is calm and inviting, and you can always find a spot to sit by yourself and simply admire the view. In the middle of a bustling metropolis, Governors Island feels like a green sanctuary. It’s where nature, history, and relaxation meet, and it leaves you with the feeling that you’ve discovered something truly special.

Great spot to have a get-away for a day then go to Red Hook and have a great evening. Went for the Jazz Festival with a bunch of people dressed as 1930s flappers and it was great! A bunch of vendors and a good time. Also, Citibikes or you can bring your own.

The opening of Eco Art on Island – II, organized by the Taiwanese American Arts Council, turned House 17 and its lawns into a meeting ground of ecology, art, and community. Twenty artists explored resilience through recycled and natural materials, cityscapes, and reflections on technology. Outdoors, Wang Guo Ren’s Deer God: Migration Trajectory – New York Chapter, built from driftwood and paint, stood as a spectral guardian recalling Taiwan’s sika deer and colonial history. Nearby, John Chia-Hsuan Kuo’s Gaia Formosa – The Elegant Lady honored Taiwan’s women and plants, weaving symbolism of grassroots resistance and democratic awakening into ceramic form. Indoors, paintings of urban greenery, stark black-and-white photographs, and clay sound vessels by Eugenie Chao carried viewers from memory to ecology, touch to listening. At noon, cellist Shu-Wei Tseng and violinist Laura Thompson filled the gallery with a lyrical duet, their music mingling with sculptural presences. Later, Julia Hsiao-Chu Hsia’s dance performance extended the theme into embodied movement. On the porch, visitors shared fruit and pastries, reinforcing the event’s atmosphere of conviviality. Eco Art on Island – II offered more than an exhibition: it was a moment of gathering, reminding us that ecological reflection thrives in community, art, and shared rituals of care.

Pelham Bay Park is the largest public park in New York City, covering a vast 2,772 acres and offering a wide range of activities. It features riding trails, golf courses, and the popular Orchard Beach on Long Island Sound. The park is home to Pelham Bay and Split Rock Golf Courses, which make up the city's only 36-hole golf facility.
If you thought Central Park was big, you need to come to this park immediately. With a large track and field area that puts Soundview Park's to shame, easy accessibility from the 6 train, free parking, a bunch of pathways to walk along and enjoy the sights (especially now that it's Autumn), a few nice statues to look at, a big playground, a number of different sports courts, and a bunch of areas to sit down and have a barbecue with your family and friends. Great views of the water and city skyline as well, especially a bit closer to nighttime. You can't even see all of the park in one day unless you wanna challenge yourself. Not only that, I felt very safe during my walk through the park, and others that I've encountered have been quite friendly. 10/10 park and highly recommend it.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Perfect Family Day at Pelham Bay Park! We had such a beautiful day at Pelham Bay Park with the whole family! It’s truly a hidden gem in New York City — peaceful, spacious, and full of natural beauty. From wide open green spaces to scenic walking trails and picnic spots, the park offered something for everyone. The kids had a blast running around, and we enjoyed a relaxing stroll while soaking in the fresh air and calm atmosphere. It was the perfect place to unwind and spend quality time together. Whether you’re planning a quiet afternoon, a family picnic, or just want to escape the city noise for a while, Pelham Bay Park is a fantastic choice. Can’t wait to come back!

I love this park. I have one closer to me but it’s so congested with the influx of illegal immigrants in the area I can’t enjoy it anymore. But coming to this park is refreshing to walk around without crowds of people and volleyball nets everywhere. There are baseball fields, playgrounds, a newly renovated track and field with a outdoor workout area and plenty of walking paths. There is a good-sized parking lot at the rear of the park and it even has an ev charging area for electric or hybrid cars. My dogs love the openness of being able to freely walk, run and play and I genuinely enjoy coming here and walking along seeing other families enjoying the space too.

Orchard Beach parking lot is a good starting point for Hunter Island and Two Trees Island trails (they were actual islands before Robert Moses’ transformation have created Orchard Beach). These are most picturesque and well-maintained ones, especially good to stroll in fall season. Another good trailhead is at Bartow-Pell mansion with nice views of the lagoon. I’ve also hiked marked trail from Orchard beach to City Island bridge and then crossing the Meadow back to the beach, this one is somewhat overgrown. Good place to spend few hours of weekend hiking.

The best destination for seafood and fun in the sun without boardwalks and vendors and rides and noise. Lots of parking, police everywhere. No swim zones are constantly patrolled by the authorities. Perfect for summer fun!!!
Carla F — Google review
A huge park, probably the biggest in the city. Everything from two golf courses, driving range, beach, hiking trails, horseback riding, and across a small bridge to the seafood restaurants of City Island.

Pelham Bay Park is NYC's largest park (three times the size of Central Park!), and offers extensive outdoor activities including hiking, golf, tennis, kayaking, and horseback riding. It's home to the famous Orchard Beach, known as the "Bronx Riviera." History buffs can explore the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum and Split Rock, the Revolutionary War landmark. You can also explore the trails and salt marshes of Hunter and Twin Islands. Overall, one of the best spots in NYC for getting outdoors.

Pelham Bay Park is a beautiful and peaceful place to relax, walk, or spend time with family. 🌳✨ It’s spacious, clean, and has plenty of trails and areas to explore. The playgrounds are nice for kids, and it’s very dog-friendly, so it’s perfect if you want to bring your pup along. 🐕 It’s a great spot to enjoy nature right in the city — whether you’re going for a picnic, exercise, or just some fresh air. Highly recommend visiting!

Norman J. Levy Park & Preserve in Merrick, NY is a hidden gem for nature lovers. The park features a working windmill and offers activities like kayaking, fishing, and hiking on its well-maintained 3-mile trails. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque views of Long Island and Manhattan from the park's highest point, which also serves as a perfect spot for bird watching.
This is conveniently located and a wonderful use of space. It has something for everyone. Most trails are fairly easy to navigate with some change in slope and the addition of stairs. The scenic views at the top are a nice way to appreciate our region. At the end of the trail are goats and sheep. Along the trail, there is a bee station, birds, turtles, and ducks.
JOSEPH P — Google review
This preserve is like 3 independent areas merged together. The goats were roaming around the bar. Some of the bunnies look like they had ticks. A few birds were flying around with worms. The view from on top was quite nice with young duck roaming around the windmill and ponds. While we crossed the sanitation yard, the smell was not present in the preserve. Overall, the preserve was moderately sized and can accommodate more people
Andrew L — Google review
Awesome trail park, small enough to be comfortable and large enough to be challenging. The main trail splits into other paths that make your workout a little more challenging. It has a beautiful pier at about the midpoint spot that gives you a very nice view of the bay. Thru out the walk, there are beautiful views of both the sound and the park. Also, did I mention that there's a golf course adjacent to the preserve? The park is clean with bathroom stops throughout the park, I don't know if the bathrooms were clean or not, I didn't have to use them this trip. There's also what could be called a petting zoo on location, although all I saw were goats, it was a nice touch .
Tony A — Google review
Nice walk, no fees, small dirt parking lot but there's also street parking a walks away, saw lots of little lizards and heard some bats. A nice little escape
Tanjum L — Google review
I came with the expectation of experiencing goats and ended up experiencing far more: skinks, egrets, exercise stations instructing me to walk/jog/run, and even a stingray. I spent an infinity in Area 1 and Area 4, never discovering any area named 2 or 3. The map was disorienting, in an exciting way. There was even a structure built by a cub scout with a shockingly fancy name, and I was warned not to swim in the very shallow pond that I would never have even considered submerging myself in. All in all, I was confused, surprised, and dehydrated.
Zoe C — Google review
Excellent hiking trail. You'll see some unassuming wildlife out there. Caught a video with some foxen some years back past the GOLF course near the pond side. If I find it I'll repost. In addition to the charged ocean air, there's plenty of space where you literally don't have to cross paths with people and soak in all the nature. Plus there's workout stations along the entire loop.
Mars — Google review
Good short trail. I love coming here on the weekend to get moving. The people are friendly and the views are nice. The goats are adorable. I wish the trail was longer and more challenging. Bathrooms are clean and give port a potty vibes. Be mindful of ticks!
Kay L — Google review
I use to love this place! The goats are a definite plus, it’s always super clean and lots of parking. The entrance can be a lil wonky especially on certain weekends when sanitation is active. However, this park is definitely NOT dog friendly! I entered today with my dog and was immediately told I was not welcomed. Fair enough. However when i tried to ask the presumably park ranger/ city employee he was insistent on me leaving…I was just asking for a place to fill up my water bottle. I used to enjoy this place but this experience and the nasty mosquitos makes me rethink visiting. Such a shame.

An excellent park located on the north fork of long island. this park offers multiple scenic, bird trails along beautifully maintained paths. Park itself is well maintained with multiple picnic areas and sports facilities for people to utilize. There are multiple restrooms for people to use and kayak and canoe rentals. There are multiple signs listed at pets are not welcome. However, during the off-season there was nobody enforcing this just saying. Over a wonderful experience the park closes at 4 PM.

This beach is exactly what we were looking for. It’s one of the few beaches you can park at in the North Fork if you don’t have the village permit. You pay $10 to enter the park and then have a beautiful short drive along the water. The beach is quite rocky but beautiful and quiet - there were only 3 families there when we were there. There are easily accessible bathrooms, a couple swings and slides for the kids and lots of picnic tables in the shade of you wanted to bring lunch from the Orient General Store.

Such a beautiful wide open space with water and wind. It was so peaceful. It is perfect for families. Parking was $10. I think the pool space is only for residents but the park itself was open for use. We brought some sliders and had a small family picnic right near a small gazebo area. Absolutely relaxing and not too far from home. Benches, restrooms and low hanging trees.

Can be nice but no one patrols. Reeks of weed even if you park away from everyone still stinks and hard to escape. So bad today had to leave early and car stunk too from jusy having door open briefly. This is also right where kids were playing baseball. 10 no dogs allowed signs except for dog run but no one cares and they are seen walking along the water front and other paths. Fishermen brazenly casting in front of the Fishing prohibited signs not caring for others in those picnic and other areas. (Mind you there are designated fishing spots where its allowed). Been here a few times and the story remains the same sadly. Will cross off the list of parks respectful folks frequent.

Beautiful space . Bring a blanket and find a spot. There are also lots of benches. It's close to the water so the views are stunning. There are porter potties. There is also a really nice playground - best for little kids up to about 10 I would say. There is a baseball field - but a large section of the park is undergoing renovations - hopefully they should be done by the time school lets out for the summer. On the other side there are tennis courts and another playground. They have events as well

Argyle lake park is a great place to visit with family friends or even by yourself, it’s natural beauty and spectacular location creates for happy memories and moments to be still to take in the wonders of life. This is one of my favorite places on Long Island

This is a nice little local park with a lake. You can walk around the lake in just a few minutes, so it’s perfect for a short stroll. I imagine it’s especially nice to hang out here during the summer. We stopped by on one of the warmest days of the season, and the place was buzzing with people—families, joggers, folks just lounging around and enjoying the weather. There’s a really small parking lot, so finding a spot can be a bit of a pain. We ended up parking a few blocks away and walking over, which wasn’t too bad. If you’re into fishing, you can cast here for trout. It’s a pretty chill spot overall—great for a quick walk, fishing, or just relaxing by the water. There is a small playground as well for the kids.

Beautiful place. Swans were casually swimming while I was there and multiple people were doing photo shoots for ie wedding, quinceañera, etc. There is a parking lot for the park just make sure you go on the correct side of the park to find the parking lot. I did not and parked by residential/stores

This park is very nice but has so much upgrading to be done..the pavement where people walk on is deteriorating and the kids park looks run down. It is still a beautiful place to walk, or just sit ans enjoy the wildlife in the water

It's a very nice spot, but some spots by the bridge looked unsafe, like the cement was going to crumble if I stood by it. I do love visiting, but maybe it needs some better upkeep.

Quite amazing. Little park in the middle of the city, with so many animals swimming calmly...great place to stop and relax.

Steppingstone Park is a hidden gem nestled in the Great Neck Park District, sprawling over 12.8 acres with breathtaking views of Long Island Sound. This picturesque park features a marina complete with moorings and launch services, making it perfect for boating enthusiasts. Residents can enjoy exclusive access to amenities like fishing docks, boat lockers, and trailer storage. Families will appreciate the picnic and barbecue areas as well as a spray park and playground designed for young children.
I proposed at this park because of how beautiful it is at sunset. The park has a spacious open grass area that has a direct view of NYC across the water. It also has a dock if you would like to walk out into the water a bit to take a closer look at the view. There is also a small garden that looks a lot nicer in the summertime. I chose to propose inside that garden because you can see the fountain, all of the flowers in the garden, and the beach view in the background. It is a popular spot to take pictures of couples and to propose. They also host many events at the park as well. All that being said, there are also a lot of hoops to jump through in order to get permission to use the park. For example, for my proposal, I needed to submit my application to gather 10 people in the park. It required a two week wait and a fee payment. However, the staff was nice enough to help me speed this process up. Without the permit, we were not allowed to gather in the park or take any pictures. In summary, it's an amazing park with an amazing view, but make sure to talk to the staff asap if you want to do something there. They also require you to have a park pass to enter the park, but being a local resident, I had no issues with renewing my park pass. It took me around 30 minutes.

Scenic LIS view and very well maintained. Has picnic and barbecue area, great for a small family gathering. Spray park and playground are also available for young children. It’s a private park only open for residents. Needs valid park car. Ample parking space.
Lucy J — Google review
Resident only park, they check for passes at the entrance during during mid spring and later, no passes for parking. I've only gone here outside beach season where no one is at the gate. There is a small parking lot with a short walk to picnic area and water front. There is a pier with beautiful view of the skies and waters. There's a lot of garbage that washes ashore and is often left on the side for pickup. Good amount of sea glass too. Overall a small and quiet beach in the cold months but my favorite by far for its intimacy. Great Neck Parks host events here and there is a party room. The property is kept clean and presentable with exception of the garbage that comes from the sea. Highly recommend this place for a nice walk.

Stepping stone Park was a great experience, the fireworks from the seer was gorgeous. I would recommend. The oceans view is amazing and there are seats for people to be able to sit and enjoy their time there.

Definitely went on the wrong day as the weather was extremely cold. But even so the park was very nice and had lots of opportunities for photos. You get pretty up close with some of the wildlife and the view of the Long Island Sound is just stunning. While I went on a bad day the experience was still great for me so if you go on a sunny day I can imagine it being even better. If you are in the area I definitely recommend going for a walk here and just taking in the fresh air and enjoy the view. I’ve included some of the photos I was able to take while at the park.

Me and my fiancé drove here from queens for a peaceful afternoon. Unfortunately, we were stopped at the gate because we were not members, even though there was a public event occurring at that time. They could have easily let us in. I don’t understand why we cannot share beautiful spaces with one another. The privatization of land in this country is egregious.
Matt H — Google review
Beautiful scenic. View of the city way in the distance. Beautiful flowers the day I was there I was able to take beautiful pictures of a butterfly and a cardinal . There were sailboats too but my favorite favorite part was the old fashioned telephone booth at the end of the dock! There is a Broadway producer's estate. I couldn't find/see the lighthouse. Restrooms available. My friend had a membership, entrance is restricted.

Such a beautiful quaint park- would recommend staying here albeit please be informed on the below before you make the trek out here: 1. Some of the staff is very kind but it seems that they have newly enforced rules that not all members are up to date on and there was one woman at the front desk that took this all very seriously and was quite intense - we received conflicting information depending on who we asked but on the way out a nice man at the front helped clarify all these check in guidelines to us. 2. Checking in with a car requires documents that are very strictly enforced…green key, car registration, license and proof of annual inspection. The reservation holder absolutely needs to have all hard copies of these items up to date and present for their car/any other car on the reservation or else you will be asked to leave the premises immediately (which unfortunately happened to the second party in our group). 3. If you have 2 cars staying on your site (which we did) be sure to have photos of all the above documents for the second vehicle with the reservation holder when you check in (photo proof we confirmed was fine for the second car at the original check in as long as they were not the reservation holder) - they will not allow the second car to check in at a later time if you do not show all their documents at original check in. This is very strictly enforced. Again, this park is beautiful!! We plan to stay here more often and over-all the staff was wonderful. While the ‘rules’ are strictly enforced and rigid- there was confusion amongst the various staff members and a little hostility from one in particular due to the confusion. I would just make sure you read all the rules and regulations/come prepared.

Nice wooded county Park. Sites only have water no electric or sewer. They do have new dump stations for 3 campers at a time on the main road. Sites are not very level and there isn't much cell service but still a decent place to camp
Chris H — Google review
“Repulsive and Horrifying”, “Hell on earth”, “Human rights violation.” These are terms I would NOT use to describe the men’s public restrooms at Cedar Point campgrounds. There’s no shortage of wonderful things I could say about Cedar Point, but THIS REVIEW WILL FOCUS ON THE MEN’S BATHROOMS, as they were unequivocally the highlight of our trip! -An impressive legacy: There’s an info plaque explaining that the Cedar Point men’s bathrooms were actually designed by the same guy who designed the award winning Marriott Bonvoy bathrooms. And it shows! Don’t let the humble exterior fool you-once inside, you find yourself in a sparkling palace of grandeur - the PINNACLE of luxury! - Smart Showers: To shower, simply fashion a complex system of levers, pulleys and wheels to activate the water sensor. The showers are conveniently bluetooth enabled and accept Bitcoin! - Welcome to the ELECTRO-DOME: There are charging outlets on all the walls. None of them work at all but it adds sort of a fun “cyberpunk” decorative element! - Customer service: They have a 24/7 concierge at the sink who will give you a complimentary spritz of cologne, a mint, and a steaming hot-oil wrist and ankle massage. He doesn’t take no for an answer! He lives in a hollowed out space behind the sinks i think. -A flourishing ecosystem: If you’re like me and totally geek out learning about the local wildlife, you’ll appreciate the abundance of new and freakish insect species that will crawl up your legs while you piss. There are LEGIONS more insects INSIDE the men’s bathrooms than there are OUTSIDE in the woods, which for many, is a perk! According to the gals in our group, their restrooms are nothing like the men’s!? they said it was “very gross” and “pretty much what you’d expect for a campsite public restroom”. I really felt bad for them, so I am docking (1) star. We will be returning!
Sam G — Google review
I’ve been staying out here all summer and I love it!!! Showers are clean, there is a pizza spot. And apparently they do a brunch also at the park store. Might be a separate entity but still nice to have! The beach isn’t too bad, but be careful of the currents.
Bri M — Google review
We saw so many bad reviews that we were hesitant to book here, but it’s such a great deal for the Hamptons that we took a chance and I’m so glad we did. The glamping tent was lovely - comfortable bed and they provided towels and shampoo & conditioner which was a nice bonus. The tent was right on the water and we got a beautiful sunset. There is beach access in several locations very close to the tents (ours was just feet away) and you can walk along the water and swim. It was very peaceful. A perfect way to end the weekend for us. We also enjoyed pizza at their restaurant. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I would definitely come back.

Come time for check out, I had to give myself an extra day. I've travelled and camped in around 26 states and this location is one of my favorites. Friendly staff, quiet & peaceful environment, incredible views, swimming, hiking, a well stocked bar and delicious pizza menu... there's a lot to look forward to if you're planning to visit. Doug B. was a top notch host and went out of his way to make sure that we were comfortable and enjoying our stay the entire time. I stayed in the "glamp" tents over looking the bluff and it was perfect! The amenities are basic, but its all you need to enjoy the stay at Cedar Point County Park. I knew immediately that I will be returning here for the rest of my life.

This is one of the best campgrounds on the island that I never knew about. Me and my wife both agreed. We would have given it five stars if it wasn't for the bathroom. They weren't horrible. They were very dated. At least I didn't have to pull a cord to start the water in the shower. It was set up with a motion sensor. See you had to keep moving to have the shower going. But the water was definitely hot. The park has a lot of great features. Very close to the beach and you can go four wheeling here as long as you have a county pass. You can get a day pass for $30. It's $100 for the year. We started looking into the glamping but at$250 a night I'll pass. There weren't a lot of ticks but some. You have to bring your own fire ring and there was water on the sites but no sewer or electric. There's also a convenience store that is up and running so definitely check it out. They have wood there .We will definitely be coming back here again.

Captree State Park is a fantastic destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering bayside picnic spots with stunning views of Fire Island. Visitors can enjoy shoreline angling and saltwater fishing charters. The park features kayaking, boating, and a beautiful beach, making it an ideal spot for families who love the outdoors. With its scenic outlook providing breathtaking views of the Fire Island Inlet and the option to watch the sunset, this park offers plenty of opportunities for relaxation and recreation.
The main pier is a decent fishing spot if you’re looking for somewhere easy to go if you have kids or someone new to fishing or just want an easily accessible spot with fast action messing around with pufferfish, sea robins, little blackfish, kingfish, etc. It can get a bit crowded and picked clean at times though. The outer wall of the marina can be a good spot though.

Honestly a great area for families, fishing, crabbing, and just to spend a day getting away from the city. It’s clean and relatively quiet. You can also see bikers biking back and forth on the road. Parking is $8 per car after 9am so I would recommend having cash ready on hand.
Katie L — Google review
Got to experience a magical sunset there! You can get drinks or some good lobster at the nearby restaurant which has good music, enjoy seeing the goose walking around, the magical vibes of the sunset combined with the small marina and tons of boats and birds. You can also go on fishing trips there but we haven't tried ourselves, I'd say it's worth a detour.
Olivia H — Google review
I usually come to the parking lot to study. Not many parked cars if you go all the way in the back to park near the ocean. I just park there and study. Restrooms are a minute away from the parking spot that I just mentioned. You can also find a bench to sit facing the boats and do some light work or relax. I always prefer this site over anywhere in fire island. Enjoy simple places and keep making good memories.

Captree State Park is a true gem on Long Island, offering stunning waterfront views, fresh ocean air, and a peaceful escape from the everyday hustle. Whether you're into fishing, boating, or simply enjoying a serene walk along the docks, this park delivers. The marina is well-maintained and bustling with charter boats, and the fishing opportunities both on and off shore are some of the best in the area.

Sunsets are always the best there. We go crabbing and fishing there all the time, and always come back with a pretty decent haul. DONT recommend going clamming though, never find anything 🤣

Took the fishing charter The Captree Princess out of the park. I haven't been here since I was a kid; my dad used to bring me and my brother to fish from here. I'm 63yrs old now. Last time I was here I was probably 16yrs young. The crew on this boat was tremendous! Very welcoming, friendly, helpful, professional and courteous but most of all, patient with the new to fishing folks. You can tell it's a family run business. The crew helped a lot of people actually catch fish. The boat was very, very clean as were the bathrooms. For those who smoke, they encourage you to do so away from those who don't. I really appreciated that. The clientele ranged from experienced to new but also very young to a little younger. The variety of fish was a welcomed boon. I caught sea bass, dinner plate porgie, and 2 trigger fish. A new species for me and delicious, too! I highly recommend them and will definitely be a regular client from here on out. I will be bringing my older children and I hope to carry on the tradition by someday bringing my grandkids

Valley Stream State Park, located in North Valley Stream, is a perfect retreat for families and nature enthusiasts. The park features two nature trails that offer children the opportunity to explore diverse habitats. Visitors can enjoy BBQ facilities, picturesque scenery, and handcrafted ice cream flavors while surrounded by nature's tranquility. The park also offers a shaded picnic area with wooden tables and seats available for rental.
Valley Stream State Park is a fantastic spot for a family or group outing. I recently visited with family and friends for a BBQ, and we had a great time. The park offers plenty of open space, making it easy to find a spot to set up and relax. There's also ample parking, though it comes with an $8.00 fee. The facilities are well-maintained, with clean public restrooms and numerous playgrounds that kept the kids entertained for hours. For those who enjoy sports, the basketball courts are an added bonus. The park is impressively clean, making it a pleasant environment for everyone. Overall, it's a great place for a day out with loved ones.

I love visiting this park for grill outs. No matter how busy it seems to get, there's always a grill available. I also love the path for walking around the park. I haven't personally ridden a bike on the path, but I have seen others do so as well as roller skate. There are also a couple of benches along the path to rest. There is a bench located at one of the streams where the ducks swim around. It's a really relaxing spot. In the warm months the park is gorgeous with more ducks, bird calls, and blooming flowers. In the warm months there's also an ice cream struck stationed in the park. There's plenty of parking and restrooms available for most of the day. A playground for kids and several grills and picnic tables. There's also plenty of room to set up a hammock and picnic tent wherever you decide to station yourself.

Fort Greene Park is a picturesque urban oasis in Brooklyn, known for its lush greenery, historical significance, and stunning views of the city skyline. The park features playgrounds, tennis courts, ball fields, and a dog run. It also hosts a weekly market with an eclectic mix of vendors offering delicious food from local artisans.
Hands down the best park in New York. The vibe is always amazing with friendly people, sweet dogs, and plenty of spots to relax and connect with nature. Whether you’re laying on the grass, walking around, or just people watching, it’s the perfect place to unwind. My favorite part is the tennis courts. I could chill there for hours just watching people play. It’s also a great spot for kids to hang out. Just an all around lovely place

Amazing area for BK Mag & Paramount to do Movies in the Park here all summer! Came to watch 3 movies here and they were all great. You get a free chair, popcorn and water or seltzer. Screen is massive so it’s easy to get comfortable and watch from all over the open area! It can get pretty crowded if you come around 7pm.

1st time visiting this park, it was worth the visit. Park has plenty of space to relax playground basketball court and tennis courts. Park is located in a busy area downtown so you'll have access to public transportation, eateries and many other establishments. You'll have access to plenty of benches and yes your 4 legged best friend is welcome. I drove here however I'm the day I visited which was a Saturday in early October parking wasn't difficult. Overall its a nice park to visit, people are minding their own business enjoying the day.

What a peaceful place! I discovered this park right after the NYC Marathon, and it was such a great surprise. During fall, it’s absolutely stunning — the colors, the atmosphere, everything! You can enjoy plenty of activities or simply relax outdoors. I definitely recommend visiting to unwind and recharge, whether on a weekend or during the week.

I’ve always loved Fort Greene Park for its peaceful green spaces, community vibe, and rich history—but this summer it’s been next-level thanks to the Paramount+ and Brooklyn Magazine Movie Nights! The event is completely free (yes, really!) and they treat you like VIP. After registering online, you get free popcorn, complimentary drinks, and—wait for it—a free branded lawn chair courtesy of Paramount+ that you can take home after the movie ends! 🍿🪑🥤 It’s such a thoughtful touch and makes the whole evening feel really special. The setup is smooth, the crowd is friendly, and there’s a real sense of local pride. I’ve been to a few of these nights now, and each time I walk away feeling grateful to live in a city that offers experiences like this. It’s perfect for a date night, a hang with friends, or a chill solo evening under the stars. 🎥 Pro tip: Arrive a little early to grab the best lawn spot and snacks before the film begins!

Fun in the park!! Be ready to climb. This park has a lot of hills. I saw a movie in the park and it was so much fun. I’m not sure if it was just this movie but we got there early and we got free beach style chairs curtesy of Paramount pictures. The staff that were there were super friendly. Made a huge difference in enjoyment. It’s small but spacious hard to get lost.
