The Locke Bar is a well-established gastropub located in the heart of Limerick City's Medieval Quarter, where the Abbey River meets the Shannon. The pub boasts a charming interior with wood paneling and open fires, creating a cozy atmosphere for visitors. Additionally, it offers riverside outdoor seating, allowing guests to enjoy their drinks and meals while taking in scenic views. Guests can expect high-quality food and good prices at The Locke Bar.
Best fish and chips in ages! Light and crispy batter, not great greasy all. My friend really enjoyed her steak and ale pie as well. Very filling. Our server Taylor was great, very friendly and helped us get a taxi.

The Locke is a great spot to relax with a few drinks lovely atmosphere and a nice place to sit by the river. The food, however, was just okay. For the prices they charge, I expected something a bit more refined. I wouldn’t recommend the beef nachos—they tasted off, and the cheese had a sour flavor that was quite unpleasant. The staff are nice, the girl that served us was so nice and happy to help with what ever we wanted. The bar was very busy so it was quite difficult to try get served, no real structure to the queue.
Geoff H — Google review
This is a great spot to go for a local taste of Limerick. You can tell it's been around for a while and it's not too far from King John's Castle. We stopped in to get a small bite and found a cozy table inside. It's very pub-like but family friendly. The service was friendly and helped us to order since we were a little undecided. We ended up getting the Burata di Bufala, seafood chowder, and some chicken wings. Everything was about what you'd expect from a Sunday lunch menu at a pub. It didn't blow us away but it hit the spot and we got to soak in the Limerick atmosphere while we ate. I wish we could have come back in the evening to experience the more night-life version of this place because it seems very cool! Maybe we'll plan to do that next time we're in town. Sláinte!
Geoffrey H — Google review
This is great pub if you're looking for a taste of Ireland and Limerick! The food here is great. We had it recommended by a local in the street that we asked about great places to eat. Fish and chips and the Lamb roast was to die for. The potatoes were crunchy perfect! Great whiskey which is a product of the bar. Very easy drinking. Good atmosphere and really friendly attentive staff. Highly recommended.
W Q — Google review
The Locke Bar has plenty of seating both inside and outside. If you want to sit indoors with a view of the Irish dancing, I highly recommend making a reservation several days in advance, as they don’t accept bookings within 24 hours. They offer plenty of Irish beer on tap, which pairs perfectly with their dishes. I ordered the fish and chips, which came out hot, crunchy, and fresh. It was served with something green — I thought it was mashed avocado, but it turned out to be mashed green peas, which was surprisingly good. The people were pleasant and welcoming, though the service was a bit slow. Prices are on the higher side.
Yuki — Google review
Had a great meal at the Locke Bar last night. Servings are plentiful, I had the steak and ale pie. It was delicious. My partner had the special fish. It was cod with a spicy sauce, a salad and roast potatoes. Really flavoursome. Great selection of drinks, all the beers you could want. The atmosphere was excellent. Irish music and dancing. Good tip if you want to eat on a Saturday evening, go fairly early or make a booking. By 8 o’clock, the place is bulging.
Michael M — Google review
We really enjoyed the hour we spent today on a wet, gray mid-September afternoon having a cuppa and a ham sandwich at the outside tables of Locke Bar. The tea was just as tea should be — strong enough to trot a mouse across it, as the Irish used to day. And the sandwiches were well-made and generous. In addition, the young woman who greeted us inside at the bar and took our order couldn't have been nicer, and the woman who brought our tea and sandwiches to us was equally cordial and smiling. The interior of Locke Bar is classic pub, dark, lots of beautiful woodwork, gleaming spigots for dispensing Guiness and other beers. Altogether a first-rate pub in the heart of Limerick's old city.
William L — Google review
Wonderful pub with live Irish music and dancing. We went there for lunch (which was great) and then went back in the evening for the music. I had the Beef & Ale Stew and my wife had the Chicken Pithivier (this pot pie). Both were very good! The service was friendly, but uneven. Definitely recommend.

A perfect first pub experience in Ireland. They had all the classics on the menu and all of the food was amazing. Tried the seafood chowder, wings, lamb stew, and brown bread. Everything was delicious. Highly recommend!

Fantastic lively atmospheric pub in Limerick city. With great small intimate venues for bands and musicians. Well worth being on their newsletter as many interesting and famous artists appear here.

Beautiful venue, easy to get to, great atmosphere at the recent "wrong jovi" gig & will be back for the next "wrong " band
Jackiekim K — Google review
Dolan's is a must stop every time I'm in Limerick. The food is outstanding, especially the fish and chips. Hands down the best fish and chips I've ever had. The seafood chowder is also incredibly good. Definitely in the top 5 I've had. The staff are very friendly and attentive, which for Ireland is saying something. I know it's the European norm to let patrons be, but I've found it incredibly hard to get a server's attention to order something more or get the check. This is not a problem at Dolan's.
Dylan K — Google review
Was here for a Wolf Alice concert and thought it was incredible (if a bit hot). Bar itself is nice too and they're always organising events
Rorok — Google review
We did not have food, so I can rate it. The bartender was friendly. Met a very nice couple there from Toronto! Great conversation with them! The only reason I did not rate it higher, was that they were out of Baileys! (My wife's favorite liquor) The bartender said that he could not remember the bar ever being out of Baileys.
Jack O — Google review
We had the most amazing two nights at Dolan's. We'd especially like to thank Brandon and Lisa for taking such good care of us, accommodating our off-the-menu requests, serving delicious Irish coffees and succulent rib-eye steaks, and reserving the best seats in the house for us so that we could warm ourselves in the glow of the fire and enjoy the performance of the musicians. This is a really special place, and we're already planning how we can get back to Limerick to pop in once again.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
King John's Castle is a beautifully restored medieval fortress located in Limerick, Ireland. Situated on Kings Island and overlooking the River Shannon, this 13th-century castle offers visitors a glimpse into its rich history through interactive exhibits and period costumes at the visitor center. The castle, originally ordered by King John in 1200, stands as one of the best-preserved Norman castles in Europe.
This was a very unique and informative tour. You start by going through a museum that explains the history of the area and how the castle came to be. It was extremely informative. After the museum portion you actually go under the castle walls to see more about the history. The castle is well preserved and has a lot of areas to explore. Very beautiful area and well worth the entry fee. There is a free parking area for those visiting the castle.
Jesse K — Google review
Very interesting castle; it is a well-designed museum with interactive experiences for children and curious adults. The first part is a historic path with many details, followed by a visit to the castle itself with beautiful views and some games. It’s worth setting aside 1–2 hours to enjoy the visit calmly
Brenda M — Google review
You are able to climb up all the towers they do have a few rooms with artifacts to see and very nice walkthrough museum. You can also get underneath and look at all the original structures. Obviously the castle has seen its fair share of seiges over the years So not necessarily everything has survived or is in great shape but they continue to do excavations and renovations.
Ever1881 — Google review
Very interesting & informative place to visit, a large multimedia exhibition followed by a wander around the castle. Tickets were 15 euro which I felt for reasonable for how much there was there, and also had some medieval style games to try (needless to say we were terrible at the horseshoe throw). Lovely views from the tower over the river Shannon.
Lewis G — Google review
King John’s Castle is one of the main attractions in Limerick. I enjoyed all the fun facts throughout the castle, and the self tour didn’t take too long, making it easy to fit into a day’s itinerary. If you’re visiting during the busy season, I’d recommend purchasing tickets online. There are interactive activities to keep kids entertained, plus beautiful views from the castle. The gift shop offers a wide variety of souvenirs, and conveniently, there’s a cozy coffee shop connected to it.
Yuki — Google review
I really enjoyed this castle. The layout and the stories relayed in the first bit are done really well and are very interesting. The castle is in decent shape with some activities for kids. There is a parking lot for the castle just a few minutes walk away. Worth the stop
Brettroberts987 — Google review
King John’s Castle in Limerick Ireland is most fascinating piece of Irish history. Before you enter the Castle walls you are immersed in a very well thought out history lesson comprised of videos, replicated models of not only the castle but of the surrounding town of Limerick back in the day and narratives. It brings to life in full view what it was like during peaceful times and the many many conflicts that occurred over the centuries at King John’s Castle. Entering the Castle you start underground. You’ll have to visit to see why! The self guided tour is well received by the visitors by engaging them with every way! How on a self guided tour do they achieve this. Again you will need to see for yourself. You will not be disappointed.
Bill P — Google review
There’s lots to see in the museum part of the castle where history is told with photos and videos. This castle has a very large courtyard with sections showing a blacksmith shop and others. And you can pose with your head in a photograph with an executioner. There are spiral staircases leading to several rooms in the castle and you can climb to the top of two towers for fantastic views of the whole area. There is a large gift shop in the large glass building with a café. The entrance to the castle and displays is in the brick building, beside the glass building.

The Curragower Bar and Restaurant is a popular spot in Limerick, known for its high-quality food and award-winning menu. Situated in the medieval quarter of the city, it offers both indoor dining with an atmospheric ambiance and outdoor seating with stunning views of King John's Castle and the Curragower Falls.
Must go! We had the chicken waffles, seafood chowder, and seafood pie. All were chock-full of flavor. The seafood chowder came with brown bread and was stuffed with various fish. The seafood pie was topped with delicious savory mashed potatoes and was piping hot. Chicken and waffles with salsa had just a little heat and was sweet, perfect! Servers were friendly and worked quickly. The covered patio with glass windows is beautiful on a clear or rainy day and offers gorgeous views of the water. They carry lots of zero-zero options. Can't wait to go again!
Adelina M — Google review
We booked a team dinner here based on strong recommendations and had colleagues visiting from the U.S., so expectations were high. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite live up to the hype. The room we were seated in was extremely warm—so much so that we ended up using our dessert menus as fans just to stay comfortable. At this price point (we spent nearly €400), I would have expected a better dining environment. On the food side, it was a bit of a mixed bag. Most dishes were good—the fish, in particular, was excellent and I’d recommend it. However, the burger was disappointing. When I went to take a bite, something (possibly the bacon) didn’t sit right. Thankfully, our server was very professional and helpful—she provided great service and kindly removed the burger from the bill without hesitation. Overall, the experience was just okay. Given the price, I’d be hesitant to return, but credit where it’s due: the service was warm and attentive, and the fish was a standout.
Geoff H — Google review
The plus side of Curragower: it has a wonderful view of the Shannon and King John's Castle across the river, especially if you choose outside seating. The place was so buy when we ate there that we didn't have that option. The down side: it's a bit touristy and the quality of its food is uneven. My seafood chowder was okay, but just yesterday in Limerick, I had a bowl of seafood chowder that was superior to what Curragower offers. Its bowl is generous with seafood, but the sauce is thick as if flour has been added to it. My dining companion was disappointed that his seafood pie was far more potato than seafood. The food is well-plated and attractive, however. Service is quick and efficient, and the surroundings are very pleasant. So take your pick, plus or minus: nice surroundings, good service, great view, but food that can vary in quality.
William L — Google review
It's a fabulous place to sure outside and enjoy and great view. Make sure you make reservations as they do book up very quickly. We had great seats outdoors and ordered wine and beer. We ordered their fish and chips, seabreem and mackerel. We got a side order of salad as well. The food was very good. The chips with the fried fish were especially good! We ended with their sticky toffee pudding which was good but I think the pecans took away from the traditional flavor but I did enjoy the crunch. Overall it was a very good experience.
Monica B — Google review
Lovely atmosphere. Reservations required and we got the glass house. Hostess wasn’t there when we arrived but seated us once she got there. Food was alright. Fish was bug portion but soggy in middle (frozen / not cooked long enough?) — pity as the parts not soggy were lovely. Prawns were a little rubbery yet shell not crispy (grill not hot enough?) & the 3 sauces lacked flavour. Chips were delicious (both thin & double cooked).
Saba L — Google review
Just had dinner at The Curragower and would highly recommend. The food was absolutely amazing, the cozy fall decorations were wonderful, and the views from the glass room overlooked the River Shannon and King John's Castle. What more could you ask for.
Ev — Google review
We stumbled upon this place after walking from King John’s castle. We wanted seafood and they delivered. We ordered the mussels, calamari, seabream and a side of Caesar. The seabream was nicely seasoned with a crispy edge and it came with risotto, a giant prawn and caviar. My son ate most of the mussels and calamari so I think that means it was great. We finished with Eton Mess — a meringue dessert.
Nichelle S — Google review
Had an amazing meal at The Curragower Bar and Kitchen — this place seriously hits the spot. It's right by the river with views of King John's Castle (major bonus), and the vibe is just chill and welcoming. The food? Unreal. Tried a few vegetarian options and was genuinely impressed. The Eden Burger is packed with flavour, the risotto is creamy and comforting, and the summer salad is super fresh and zingy — perfect on a warm day. And don’t even get me started on the sticky toffee pudding... rich, gooey, and absolutely lip-smacking. You need to save room for it. Parking can be a little hit or miss since it’s close to the city centre — give yourself a few extra minutes to find a spot, especially during busy times. All in all, great food, lovely staff, and one of the nicest spots in Limerick to kick back with a pint or a proper meal. Highly recommend!

Very cool museum. They had plenty to see and the ancient Egyptian pieces were very interesting.

We loved the small, eclectic collection of the Hunt Museum, from the rather surprising silver death mask of James Joyce to the Egyptian statue of the god Thoth as a baboon and the late medieval Italian majolica devotional panel. The brightly painted horse sculptures outside the museum entrance, painted by local youth artists, are an especially wonderful feature of this cozy little museum.

An absolute must visit. What a gem in the city. You are taken on an extraordinary journey through history. The scan codes on the exhibits are a great idea, and the pieces in the drawers are a huge hit with my eleven year who has adhd. It kept us engaged from start to finish.

The Milk Market, established in 1852, is a vibrant covered market in Limerick. Similar to the English Market in Cork, it offers an array of fresh produce, meats, dairy products, crafts, and baked goods. The market is housed under the largest fixed tent in Ireland and features a balcony with free seating for visitors to soak in the lively atmosphere. With a focus on organic and artisanal offerings, it showcases top-quality foods such as air-dried meats and fresh seafood.
Just out walking in downtown... turned a corner and walked into this lovely market. Nice stalls with local food and produce. Rosti and sausage rolls were great.
Nick S — Google review
The musician was really talented, super nice atmosphere. We came for a nice breakfast and to hear some live music, which was recommended on the website of the city. But the offer of food was not what we expected, for sure some little stores but nothing to get fed up.
Vincent V — Google review
Lovely market for fruit, veg, bread and baked goods. Very heavy on the bread, coffee & pastries though. Was hoping for maybe more hot food options but was still very enjoyable in beautiful courtyard which is mostly covered. Also good for gifts like soaps, jams and honey. Worth a visit for sure!
Trish D — Google review
Not much was doing at the Milk Market when we walked there on a rainy Friday noontime — though its website says that it opens at 11 A.M. on Friday. But we enjoyed strolling around, and had a very good cup of coffee and cinnamon roll at the Bread Shop, which is part of the market. The cinnamon roll was replete with cinnamon, as a good cinnamon roll should be, and the size was gargantuan. And as we sipped our coffee, a young woman with a group of friends sat down at the piano, and magic happened.

Mother Macs, formerly known as The Roundhouse, is a unique-looking pub located on a corner of High Street in Limerick. With its bright turquoise exterior and a nice beer garden out front, it's hard to miss. This pub takes craft beer seriously and offers a wide variety of styles. Established in 2015, Mother Macs is known for its extensive craft beer selection with rotating taps and promotions. It also boasts an impressive whiskey variety and monthly deals.
Great atmosphere and good beer selection. The Guinness was decent.
Richard D — Google review
Dean from Treaty City Brewery suggested we head down to Mother Mac's, whiskey bar for our next round and to check out the rest of the area. On our way, we walked through what is probably not the nicest/safest part of town and passed the Milk Market (which was already closed for the day). It seemed like this area had some drug/criminal stuff going on, so while we did grab a drink at Mother Mac's, we didn't stay long. The bar was nice enough inside, the staff was friendly and attentive, and it felt like a local spot for a Guinness.

Super little pub in the heart of Limerick just off the beaten track. I've been outside loads of times throughout the lockdown, it's fantastic if you have a bit of sunshine. But it's even a nicer pub inside full of little snugs. They have a extensive range of whiskey and all the usual stuff you would expect for a local pub. The Guinness was some of the best I've ever had, not just of what I've had in Limerick. I'll definitely be back to try out the rest of what the have to offer. The staff are really friendly and very accommodating, I don't think anything would be too much trouble for them.

As a foodie and a pub connoisseurs I would rate Bobby Byrnes as the finest Irish Style Gastropub in Ireland. The ambience, cleanliness, the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The portion sizes were generous I mean very generous, no half measures!!!. The food was delicious. The interior decorating fine details to the pub , the lighting, vibes , lads tis a show stellar. Thank you for the hospitality and nice service. Highly recommend!!!!

Popped in here for a quick mid-morning coffee and to check out the new café. It is a fine space and the staff are attentive BUT it is very expensive at €15.20 for 2 Americanos and 1 piece of cake. Prices are not shown at the counter. The decor is nice but there are TVs everywhere which spoil the café ambiance. Disappointed so very unlikely that we'll be back.

It's a good option if you're in Limerick and likes Rugby. The food was delish - had the beef roast (bottom) and the cod (top). Price is OK for the amount of food you get.

I have been to Bobby Byrnes couple of times and they have the best Irish food and cocktails ever. I especially like the After eight Cocktail and Pornstar Martini and Best ever fish and chips. They are pocket friendly and you will be satisfied after having the food. It's so yummy and delicious. Highly recommended place for people out there in Limerick. Do check out and try some cocktails.

Specialty Museums
The Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum is a must-see attraction in Limerick, Ireland. It showcases the village's significant role in early passenger flights between Ireland and New York, particularly during the 1930s to 1940s. The museum features a replica B314 flying boat and a radio room within the original terminal building. Visitors can explore the luxurious amenities of the B314 flying boat, which offered comfort on its transatlantic flights.
This is somewhere I have wanted to visit for quite some time now and I am so glad we went today. I have passed through Foynes a number of times over the years. It’s a lovely small town, set on the banks of the Shannon Estuary but until today I never knew its historical significance in the foundation of transatlantic aviation in Ireland. Home of the world renowned Irish coffee, a base of innovation for the incredible contributions of Brendan O’Regan to Irish aviation and business. We were met by a wonderfully knowledgeable lady who takes huge pride and interest in her work. We had a lovely bit of over and back banter for a few minutes which set the tone for a nice, easy and very relaxed walk through the museum. I hope my pictures do a little justice to this gem of a place. I see a review here giving out about the portion of the museum that is dedicated to the late actress Maureen O’Hara. I find that very unfair as she was a patron of the museum, an avid supporter and her husband was the last pilot to fly out of there. Upon her passing her family made sure the museum received a huge amount of her belongings to display and to help celebrate her life and ties to the airport and museum. Because of that I also got to see a fabled Oscar statue on display. Anyway, I digress. The tour is full of fascinating aeronautical artefacts, navigational instruments, radio equipment, uniforms and a rich collection of memorabilia from a bygone era. The partial plane on display is so far removed from what we know now but so era correct that it’s fascinating. On the upper floors there are fine testaments to the maritime industry that thrived along the estuary. The Foynes Flying boat and Maritime museum is well worth the visit, has taught me things I never knew about the area and is a place I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone.

We had a wonderful family visit to the Flying Boat & Maritime Museum. It was the perfect stop, as we spent about an hour here, which felt just right for keeping the kids engaged. They really had a good time, especially getting to see the full-size replica of the flying boat up close. For the adults, it was a genuinely interesting learning experience about a unique chapter of Irish aviation history. Highly recommended for a family outing that's both fun and educational.
Sethuraman M — Google review
I'll start with the cons: 1. Expensive 2. I was going to a museum about aviation, but ended up at the Maureen O'Hara Museum 3. The museum only has a piece of a seaplane, a fuselage with a glider and a piece of a wing. I understand that there probably wasn't room for the entire plane. Despite this, I saw a lot of new things, for example, the cockpit and interior of the 30s, old radio transmitters and communication equipment. I like it all very much. I also recommend visiting the aviation museum in Shannon. I know about the Irish actress Maureen O'Hara, I was even in the village of Cong where the movie "The Quiet Man" was filmed. Please forgive me, but I still haven't seen that movie. However, I was glad to see a real Oscar. Special thanks for the hologram and the coffee history. Don't pass by this room.
Alexander S — Google review
An outstanding museum telling the story of a brief chapter in aviation history. There are factually informative displays and artefacts combined with engaging personal stories and newsreel footage. The added bonus is the connection with actor Maureen O’Hara and her aviator husband Charles Blair. Personal memorabilia from her career is thoughtfully curated capturing old Hollywood glamour. If that wasn’t enough, a maritime museum also helps visitors understand the importance of the Shannon Estuary past and present and the chance to view the river from a platform at the top of the building. A welcoming cafe serves satisfying meals and snacks and of course an Irish coffee. An ideal excursion by TFI bus 314 taking 1 hour from Limerick City. Friendly team working in the museum, cafe and gift shop. Really enjoyed my visit.
Rachel M — Google review
Overall, the museum is quite good and has a lot of information and is quite interesting. That being said, there is a huge section about an actress that does not really fit the theme (I understand she donated, etc, but still a big portion of the museum). Also, there are 3 simulators 1 was marked as under rapids, but all 3 were broken, which was a shame. Also quite pricey all things considered when parts are broken reductions should be made.
Anthony O — Google review
It was interesting to find out about trans-Atlantic travel before and during the war. It's the only place in the world to get an idea of what the Boeing 314 flying boat was like inside. A lot of Maureen O'Hara memorabilia in the museum and also the home of Irish Coffee.
Noel E — Google review
This museum is an absolute treasure and should be promoted more. Lunch (including original Irish Coffees!) was great. The exhibitions offered good insight and on a fascinating era of travel. The maritime and Maureen O'Hara sections were equally well done. Allow at least three hours if you have a meal while you are here to really enjoy all aspects of the museum.
Michael O — Google review
This is a excellent museum about the history and people involved with the beginnigs of transatlantic flight. The full size flying boat is amazing. Great stop for an Irish coffee of course.

The Glen Tavern, located in the heart of Limerick city, is a spacious and popular pub that attracts both locals and tourists. The friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere make it a great spot to enjoy a meal or grab a drink. Run by the Callanan family for generations, this tavern offers a diverse menu with options like The Glen Ploughmans Lunch and Traditional Irish Stew.
If you’re looking for a traditional old Irish pub this is probably the best place to be and go to :) We ordered a burger, seafood chowder and the Korean bbq wings and I loved the food so much! 5/5 and def coming back next time when here in limerick :) For my boyfriend the burger could have been a bit more spicier and the chips were a bit dry but it think they were very nice.

Great spot. Had lovely food and the Guinness was excellent. Service very good. Bar staff don't leave you standing long. Very switched on. Lamb stew highly recommended and the slow cooked beef was delicious. Chicken wings are frozen breaded type. Not great.

The staff here are incredible, really made me feel welcome. Thank you again :) I visited to watch the Ireland v Portugal match and was quickly seated to have a good view. The place erupted when Kelleher saved Ronaldo's PK with his foot!! Josie's Stew and the recommended spicy whiskey was great, but the highlight was the Sticky Toffee Pudding. My thanks to the staff for the brilliant recommendation! No live music that night due to some car troubles but not the fault of the tavern.

St Mary's Cathedral, located in Limerick, is an iconic 12th-century church with a rich history. It is the oldest building in the city and has been in continuous use since its founding in 1168. The cathedral features large stained-glass windows and a small burial ground. With its fascinating architecture and historical significance, it offers visitors a journey through time from the early Middle Ages to the present day.
St. Mary's Cathedral is a beautiful and peaceful spot to visit. It dates back to 1100's, and you can really feel the history as you walk around. The stained glass windows and stonework are amazing, and the surrounding graveyard is a nice bonus. Definitely worth a visit if you're into history or appreciate an old cathedral.
Henry G — Google review
This church is conveniently close to the city centre and it’s actually the best preserved Irish church built on a Continental scale before the Norman invasion of 1169. It’s a complex building, incorporating developments from the mid-twelfth century to the present. It is a really interesting sightseeing spot and definitely impressive and worth a visit!
Flynn T — Google review
Decent cathedral with a lot of history. You have to pay to tour the place which in itself is maybe acceptable although not entirely justifiable, however, despite paying some parts as indicated on the booklet they give were closed and as such it would be reasonable to lower the fee. Also, we wanted to light some candles, but the lighter was not working and no matches were provided.
Anthony O — Google review
A nice and well maintained cathedral. Entrance a bit steep as all they done here is put information exhibits on the sides of the cathedral as you walk around it to tell you about it's history. Overall still enjoyed it allow 20 minutes.
Vin C — Google review
We were not able to tour the cathedral when we went, but the outside property was delightful, filled with old headstones. The architecture was breathtaking. Hard to imagine 1168 AD - so cool. It's in the city of Limerick and we were there for the day. I'd love to go back and see the inside, it has to be gorgeous.
Theresa J — Google review
The Graveyard: The churchyard surrounding St. Mary's Cathedral is an ancient burial ground, with the oldest parts dating back to the 12th century, though earliest burial records are from 1726. It remains an active graveyard to this day. As you explore, you'll find a variety of graves and tombs, some of which belong to notable historical figures. These include the Barrington and Sexton vaults, the Protestant Orphan Grave, and the grave of Prince Milo Petrović-Njegoš of Montenegro. The graveyard offers a tangible connection to centuries of Limerick's past and its inhabitants.

Beautiful building, the highlights were the wonderful stained glass, both new and old! 5 euro for entry which was a good price.

Had visited the Hunt museum and seen St Marys from one of the rooms. Delighted to have seen this wonderful Cathedral. Staff were very helpful. The stained glass windows by Harry Clarke were a pure joy. Stepped in history. do not miss this gem. Also had a ramble around the grave yard . Watch out for a lovely tablet to Katie a lady who looked after the gardens for over fifty years .

House Limerick is a unique and historic structure located on the riverside, originally built as a toll collection point in the 1840s. It stands out due to its faux defensive structure attached to the small building, adding grandeur to its appearance. Although not open to the public, its peculiar placement and contrast with the surrounding neighborhood make it an interesting sight for a leisurely stroll along the Shannon.

What a great discovery in Limerick. If you're keen on a higher then usual standard in Ireland, this is a must. Kindly, friendly and efficient staff. We came in just for some drinks but we couldn't resist to try the salmon sandwich and the ice cream sundae. Amazing food and the Birra Moretti pint simply perfect. Great atmosphere (evening).

I visited this place and spoke with Damie, the manager. Even though there were many open tables, I was told they were all reserved. It’s very frustrating to see so much space available but not be able to sit down. When I asked about the waiting time, I was only told that it “depends,” without a clear answer. We were a group of nine, just looking to enjoy some drinks together, but it wasn’t possible. It would be great if the place could better accommodate groups who want to come, relax, and have a good time.

Treaty Stone is a significant monument in Limerick, known for its association with the 1691 Treaty of Limerick. This treaty marked the surrender of the city to William of Orange, ending the famous Siege of Limerick. It offered religious freedom to Catholics loyal to King James II and allowed the defeated army to leave Ireland for France, an event known as the Flight of the Wild Geese.
The treaty agreement that never was. After the accord, and signing of the Treaty, the victorious Williamites did not honour its Treaty. This should teach us a lesson that the spoils go to the victor. And don't expect the victor to abide by the Treaty they sign.

King John's Castle also known as Limerick Castle is a 13th-century castle located on King's Island in Limerick, Ireland, next to the River Shannon. Although the site dates back to 922 when the Vikings lived on the Island, the castle itself was built on the orders of King John in 1200. Wikipedia
Felipe A — Google review
Nice view to take pictures. In the same shot you can get Treaty Stone and Limerick Castle. Also few benches around just to sit and relax. Very cool place
Shimas — Google review
The Treaty of Limerick was reputedly signed on this stone in 1691. The treaty ended the Williamite War in Ireland between King William III of England (William of Orange) and his predecessor James II. The monument is situated on the west bank of the Shannon just south of the Thomond Bridge. There is a fine view of King John's Castle on the opposite bank.

Remarkable landmark commemorating important Irish history from the late 17th century. A lot of lives have been lost before this treaty was drawn up and literally set in stone. John's Castle is just across the bridge, good eateries and pubs are nearby as well.

Desmond Castle, located in County Clare, Ireland, was originally built in 1467 as a medieval tower house serving as a watchtower during times of conflict. In the 19th century, it underwent restoration to Gothic and Medieval styles by Theobald Fitzwalter Butler. Adare Desmond Castle in Limerick showcases medieval architecture with a strong fortified history and strategic location on the River Maigue.
To get there you have to book tickets through heritage centre and you will be driven by shuttle from heritage centre. It was fantastic opportunity to get to the castle with guide who opened the main big castle gate door. It was a small group and it was great to hear all the stories from knowledgeable guide. My favourite story about man who was jailed 17 years there and nobody knew about it. He survived by eating rats all his 17 years. We had a chance to walk around and going to the underground too.
Oksana O — Google review
Must book the tour at the heritage centre. A bus brings you and drops you back after tour. Our guide John was very experienced and described every part and it usage of the castle. An added surprise was been given a key to unlock and push the huge entrance door open. I highly recommend the tour you will not be disappointed.
P T — Google review
It's ONLY visitable by paid booking minibus about 4 times a day via the Heritage centre or online. Free if English Heritage members and small discount for senior's. But..... absolutely cracking tour with Mark. ... Spoke about 1000 years of history off the cuff for 45 mins... PS not suitable if any mobility issues.

Great guided tour (go to the heritage center to book tour—can’t go into the castle otherwise). We stopped in Adare and saw that there were castle tours available so decided to book a tour. My family of four and one other couple were the only ones on the tour. Our tour guide was knowledgeable. Very enjoyable unplanned visit. We visited in June of 2022.
Jennifer R — Google review
Beautiful castle. The guided tour (see Heritage Center) is the only way to enter the castle, and it makes the experience very private: we were there with only 15 people. Furthermore, our guide Maria was knowledgeable and willing to answer all questions. Tour is paced nicely and takes about 80 minutes to get to and back from the castle. Highly recommended.
Len K — Google review
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and did a great job of taking us through the castle. I was very surprised the number of rooms we were able to go to

The tour begins at the Adare Heritage Center, where you take a short bus ride to the castle. Our tour guide Maria was a delight. It was clear she loves the history and has a gift with storytelling. Very disappointed with our experience at Red Hen in Limerick. We popped in hoping for a quick drink only to be told that it was “booking only” – fair enough, but when we asked if we could just get takeaway pints and leave, we were flatly refused. No explanation, no flexibility, just an unwelcoming attitude. For a place that should value its customers, it felt unnecessarily unaccommodating. Won’t be returning anytime soon !

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Limerick City, Jerry Flannery's Bar is a quintessential Irish pub that embodies the spirit of local culture and sport. With its roots tracing back to the 1960s, this family-run establishment pays homage to rugby—Limerick’s beloved pastime—making it a must-visit for fans eager to catch live matches, especially those featuring Munster Rugby.
Amazing vibes. They got three sections, an indoor bar, an open bar with big screen and smoking zone and a cozy posh pub section. They serve fresh and creamy Guinness pints with wonderful pizzas. Highly recommend! The only drawback is that the toilet is upstairs. If you're drunk, climbing the stairs feels like an exercise 😅

Flannery's Bar is a popular and lively venue located in Limerick City Centre, offering three bars on two floors and an outdoor deck. The bar serves breakfast and lunch, making it a versatile spot for visitors. As a family-owned business with a rich history dating back to 1898, the pub exudes a personal touch with photos of the owner and customers adorning its walls.
I couldn't recommend this place enough. Great selection of beer and whiskey! Was in there at a quiet time and was lucky enough to meet Michael and Liam! Had a lovely history chat with them about the bar and it was a pleasure to meet them both and learn about the bar & the family. If I had more time in limerick I could have stayed all day to listen to them and taste everything in the bar !

When you first walk in, it doesn’t seem very large. But take a stroll, and you’ll find several spacious areas within. There’s a HUGE upstairs area that is partly covered and partly outside, so smoking is allowed up there. I was there on a Sunday evening, so it was VERY dead. There literally was only one other customer in there, and he arrived after I did, so we all got the full attention of the bartender. That’s a plus I guess. They have the usual Irish beers and a full bar. It was just surprisingly dead - even for a Sunday evening.

Great location. This is a very rustic irish pub. The owners were rather restrained when entering the pub. This changed after a few Guinness and there was a very good and sometimes very funny entertainment.

There’s a dress code only for women! That’s sexism. I was denied entry just because I was wearing black leggings! Men were even allowed in wearing sweatpants. Pure sexism!!!

Unfortunately we had one of the worst experience on a day we were expecting to and receive a great service, Hurling Finals! we were given a table in front of a broken TV (there was a huge black line going through it, please see picture attached) and once I asked the manager to please change the table to one that we had already spotted and was inside the premises, he refused as he said that it was the place where people would go to smoke (even though you can't smoke inside) very disappointing experience would not recommend it.

Smyths Bar & Club Icon is a trendy and casual spot in Limerick, offering modern decor, delicious cocktails, and live music. It's a favorite among those looking for a harmless boogie and a place to unwind. The club features contemporary design with neon lights and pop music filling the air. It's popular among students and late-night revelers seeking an escape from the stresses of modern life.
Great venue. Live music is awesome. Drinks are cheap and cocktails are delicious. Our favourite night in Ireland was here.

The nightclub has great music and a lively atmosphere, but unfortunately, the experience is completely ruined by the bouncers. They are some of the rudest people I’ve ever encountered and genuinely seem to be on a power trip. I understand they have to be firm, especially dealing with intoxicated crowds, but there’s a huge difference between being strict and being outright hostile. They made offensive comments about my friends' and my appearance, making us feel like we didn’t belong there. Their attitude was absolutely appalling and ruined what could’ve been a fun night. It’s a shame because the club has potential, but with staff this unwelcoming, I can’t see anyone wanting to go back.

My iPhone 15 was stolen from the lost and found. I was informed my phone was there but when we went to collect it all that was left was my phone case. Find my phone location pinged here the following morning. Gardaí contacted and hopefully will be resolved. No help from anybody working at this place.

Was refused entry for no reason. Bouncers clearly lack customer service and professionalism. I seen from a lot of the comments below that this is the main reason people are put off by it. Power trip bullies.

......I won’t recommend this place to anyone, sorry to say that but you can be sure, that you are not welcomed there! Bouncers are very rude! You feel unwanted there for the very first..The rudest staff you will ever meet. The bouncers especially are very unaccommodating. They are very clearly on a power trip & treat everyone like they are less than them. I've never met staff so rude. It's a shame because the venue has great potential but the staff would turn anyone off going.......s

Aileen E — Google review
Last Saturday, during my visit to Pharmacia, I unfortunately had a very bad experience that I felt I needed to write about here. It was a busy night at Pharmacia, the bar in front was very crowded, and since several of us went to get drinks at the same time, I ended up giving two separate orders to two different bartenders. To avoid any confusion, while I was making the payment to one bartender, I also told the other that I had already placed my order. As a result, instead of receiving two beers as I should have, I ended up paying for four. I admit that this confusion was caused by me, and I take responsibility for it. The problem was not paying for the extra beers, but rather the way the two bartenders treated me—as if I was rebelling against them, as if I wasn’t taking responsibility—while I was trying to calmly explain the situation. They spoke to me in a scolding, lecturing manner, and even treated me like a thief, saying I would pay for those drinks. At one point, when I handed one beer to my friend, they even asked me, “Where are you going?” That was completely inappropriate.

I stopped in for a couple pints because I have a hard time saying no to a brewery I haven't been to before. The beers were excellent, especially the grisette. The building itself was very cool looking with the tanks behind the bar and there was nice outdoor seating. Bunratty Castle & Folk Park is a must-visit family museum located in the picturesque village of Bunratty in County Clare, Ireland. The castle, originally built in the 15th century and later restored in 1956, offers a glimpse into its rich history through various architectural additions and interiors. Situated beside the River Raite, it is renowned as one of the most complete and authentic castles in Ireland.
The castle and village/park is pretty awesome. The restoration did and amazing job of sticking to what it would have been. Including the furniture being hundreds of years old (not original to the castle but just as old and from that area and time period. Most def recommend and set aside maybe 2-3 hours if you are going self guided. You can then take your time. Plus there is a Pub to catch a drink!
Vanessa G — Google review
This is so worth the visit and it is for all ages. Having not only the castle but the village houses with the thatched roofs and fires burning in the fireplaces burning peat gave you the authentic feeling. Staff were so friendly and happy to chat to you about the history. Plenty of space to park and for kids to run around.
Joanne P — Google review
Great experience, we weren't entirely sure what this was when we decided to go, we were just looking for something to do on our last full day in Ireland that was on our way back to Dublin and we stopped here. It was amazing! Whole little old time village with houses and stores and a blacksmith that was actually blacksmithing and teaching about what a blacksmith does and then there was the castle which was also very cool. As you enter there was a man playing Irish folk tunes on his fiddle, it was all very charming. We didn't have any kids with us, but there were child specific activities and a few animals to see as well as a train that can drive you around the town. Overall great experience, would definitely recommend stopping by!
Heather V — Google review
We spent a truly memorable afternoon at Bunratty Castle & Folk Park — a place where history, fun and a touch of magic come together. The grand medieval castle rises impressively above the grounds: restored to its former glory, it offers access to four towers and richly furnished living spaces that bring the 15th and 16th centuries to life. In front of the castle lies the folk park—a living, breathing slice of 19th-century Ireland with charming thatched cottages, old trades, a village street with shops, and costumed interpreters walking around. We wandered through the various buildings, peeked into traditional homes, learned about old-time crafts and daily life, and really felt immersed in the past. Since we visited during the Halloween week, the place became even more special: the entire grounds were transformed into a “haunted village” with spooky touches, ghostly characters, an enchanted train ride and plenty of fun for all ages. Kids and grown-ups alike enjoyed the mix of history and seasonal excitement. The fauna on site added another layer of appeal: from proud Irish wolfhounds strolling the grounds to farm-animals like pigs, hens, and ponies, you’ll find plenty of life around you. The large playground and outdoor spaces meant our little one had plenty of room to roam, which was a huge plus. There is a lovely café too, offering warm snacks, cakes and scones — which makes a perfect stop as you pause from exploring. All in all, we spent about 2-3 hours here and could easily have stayed longer (especially if you combine the castle towers, folk park walk and café break). If you’re travelling in Ireland and want a destination that appeals to history buffs, families, and those looking for something fun with a bit of character — Bunratty is a wonderful choice.
Yasmin G — Google review
The castle itself was a bit of a downer, as well most are, as they illustrate how people lived fought and died there. the place was cool though. The park it's located in is absolutely fabulous! Gardens, old houses, shops, animals, photo opportunities? endless. I would set aside about 4 hours to let it all sink in.
Nobox G — Google review
Amazing Castle and views. I would say the gardens and the village are better than the castle itself. It looks like you are in a fairy tale. I’ve been to a lot of castles in Ireland and in my opinion this goes to the list of one of the best’s ones. Friendly staff, I definitely recommend the visit.
Karen S — Google review
Such a fun day. Lots to see and do for the family and a lot of farm animals to pet and see. Actors are informative and friendly and you can go most places in the castle if you are brave enough to walk all the stairs in the towers.
Ever1881 — Google review
This was one of my favorite castles that we visited while in Ireland. Having the rooms filled with furniture really gives you a good idea of what things could have been like. Then in addition to have a whole village set up in the 1800’s was really cool too. Would have loved to stay for the banquet at night but it didn’t work out. Highly recommend this one. The tea and desserts were good. The property is large and there is quite a bit of walking but not strenuous. The map they provide makes it easy

The food was lovely. I have no complaints about that. But one thing did leave a bad taste, the steak sandwich was small on the lunch menu and vastly overpriced at €18 for the size. For €18 it needs to include the chips and a small side salad. I thought the honey glazed carrots were fine at €4. But the dauphinoise were expensive at €12 for the side. Knocking a few € off cocktail prices and desserts wouldn't be a bad thing either. I can totally understand why the restaurant was pretty empty at lunchtime. The staff were good. But I can't see us ever going here again on trips to Limerick until the business gets back in the real world with pricing.

Came here with a large group. Food was decent but pricey. Staff were unusual - requested we gather plates which were in reach and one raised their voice at a guest, which quietened our table and surrounding tables. I understand the challenges of service, but this felt off. Sadly, I won’t be returning.

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner and it was very lovely. The staff were friendly and nice although we had a couple of different waiters which caused confusion at times regarding orders. Since I had gone here before I wanted to try small bites like the mini lobster rolls, the burrata and a side of truffle mac and cheese. All of the food was tasty, even though I did not get a main, i found everything to be filling. I had to ask for bread with the burrata, when I read "pan tomato" I assumed it came with it. It was creamy so it went perfectly with bread. The lobster rolls would be an appetiser for most people but given the rich flavours, I thought the portion was good. Mac and cheese was great but some people might find the aroma of truffle a bit different. The taste was light and really good. Good portion for a side. The night was very enjoyable but I noticed my boyfriend looking around as if he was waiting for something throughout the meal. It turned out, he had sent in a request to the restaurant for my birthday to do something and he would pay for anything they did extra. There were a good few birthday cakes the staff brought out for other diners whilst singing but I never got one. I didn't know until we had left that he included that request but I suppose it was a little disappointing they didn't read what he had sent in the booking.

What an excellent dining experience right in the heart of Limerick’s city center. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance of lively and welcoming. The Confit Duck Leg was cooked to perfection—rich, flavorful, and absolutely to die for. I also loved the Honeysuckle cocktail, a great choice for vodka lovers who enjoy something sweet yet refreshing. The staff were friendly, attentive, and happy to answer all my questions, making an American feel right at home. Highly recommend Cornstore for anyone looking for a memorable meal in Limerick!

Was in the Cornstore in Limerick recently and honest to God, it was top class from start to finish. The place has a lovely buzz about it, proper nice décor, and the staff are absolute legends—so sound and on the ball without being in your face. Now the food… different gravy. The prawn pil pil was savage—sizzling in garlic and chilli oil, full of flavour, and the bread for dipping was the job. Then we got the mussels in garlic sauce and they were melt-in-the-mouth good—fresh as anything, swimming in this rich, garlicky broth you'd nearly drink with a spoon! Steak was cooked to perfection, and the cocktails were spot on too—real tasty without being all sugar and no kick. For the quality of the grub and the whole experience, the prices are a bit dear but you know you’re in a proper place that takes pride in what they’re doing. If you’re knocking about Limerick and fancy a decent feed in a lovely spot, Cornstore’s where it’s at. And don’t leave without trying that pil pil or the mussels—they’re magic.

Our first trip to Limerick and we booked this early for a Friday evening. The service was great, the food excellent and the atmosphere relaxed. We had salmon and bream beautifully cooked, fresh ingredients and wonderful flavours. It was so good that we booked again for later the next evening. Restaurant much busier and yet there was still great service and good food served promptly. A good selection of wines and cocktails. Overall the place has a warm, friendly atmosphere with a mix of families, friends and couples. Most importantly we could see how hard the kitchen and serving staff worked to deliver great food efficiently and with genuine hospitality. Worth every cent.

The Buttery, Bedford Row is a charming and stylish spot located in the heart of Limerick. It offers a unique blend of a street cafe and formal restaurant, making it an ideal choice for any occasion. The interior exudes sleekness, providing a cozy atmosphere perfect for any weather. The outdoor area is also available for those sunny days.
We had a fantastic breakfast at The Buttery in Limerick! I ordered the full Irish breakfast, my husband had the buttermilk pancakes, and our friend went for the four-egg omelette, everything was absolutely delicious. The ingredients were fresh, the portions were generous, and everything was cooked perfectly. The service was warm and friendly, and we felt really well taken care of. The decor is also super cute, cozy, welcoming, and full of charm. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great spot to start your day!

The best full Irish I have had in years! The quality of ingredients is clear. Staff are lovely too. But the best part, it is super dog friendly! Dogs are allowed inside. They even brought a bowl of water and treats as soon as we came in! Ireland needs more dog friendly places like this!

Hands down the best french toast I have ever had, I would honestly give them 6 stars for the food. The atmosphere is adorable and fun. The coffee is delicious as well! My only critique is that it took a super long time for our server to cash us out… we sat there with our dishes stacked at the end of the table for quite a while. Other than that, the staff is friendly and welcoming. Overall, the experience was great and I would 100% come back for another meal!!❤️

We were recommended here by a local for our Limerick visit and it didn't disappoint. Service was quick, friendly and knowledgeable. We were told the specials and asked about dietary requirements which applied to one of our group which was great as she was looked after. Food was great and came out quickly and it was clean plates all round. Place was warm and welcoming and perfect refuge from the driving wind and rain outside. The booths looked lovely so when I'm booking next I'll specify sitting there. Will definitely revisit when back in Limerick.

Fantastic spot for breakfast, especially if you’re gluten-free! The menu had so many gluten-free options, and everything felt 100% safe for those with dietary restrictions. The portions were generous, and the food was absolutely delicious. The cafe was super busy, so I’d definitely recommend making a booking to secure a table. Great atmosphere and a must-visit for breakfast lovers!

Restaurant
The French Table Restaurant in Limerick City offers a swanky dining experience with a mix of classic and seasonal French dishes. The restaurant prides itself on using the freshest ingredients from artisan suppliers, ensuring high-quality meals for its guests. Despite its upscale aesthetic, the restaurant also caters to vegan diners with a variety of delicious plant-based options. The ambiance is enhanced by attentive service and carefully curated details like candlelit tables and polished cutlery.
Had a wonderful ladies lunch recently at The French Table. The food was authentic French, with very fresh ingredients and perfectly prepared. The portions were also very generous. Highly recommend Le Civet de biche (venison stew), which was particularly tasty with very tender meat. Thomas runs a wonderful restaurant, highly recommend for any special occasion or even any ordinary occasion. A repeat visit is definitely on the cards.

Brought partner for birthday dinner. From the moment we walked in the two waiters made us feel welcome relaxed and were so professional - they explained things on the menu so well and are a credit to the restaurant. The bread and salted crisps were divine. I had a non alcoholic cocktail and was the nicest na cocktail I have ever had. The food was amazing. So many subtle delicate flavours, unique dishes and care for presentation. The oxtail special started was a highlight - rich in flavour and just right in portion size. The venison stew - mmm tender , flavourful and rich. It was a lovely experience and again the waiters were so professional friendly and made our meal very special. Cannot recommend enough and will return.

I went here for a date night, requested a romantic table and got a perfect corner table with views of the city lights along the river. My partner and I shared two starters, a main and two desserts. The food was beautiful, the service was friendly and prompt and the atmosphere was relaxed, private and very romantic. The prices are high, yet appropriate for the quality of food and service. I would highly recommend going here for a special treat.

Easily the best restaurant in Limerick. Very nuanced and imaginative menu that was executed magnificently. Impeccable service too. It’s in a nicely subdued location right along the river that belies the complicated culinary landscape within. Every course I had was delightful in a new way. This is a spot that deserves savor and repetition. Do yourself a favor and try it once, after that you’ll be back of your own accord.

What a shame and disappointment. Had not been for a year but previously has eaten at least 5 times the delicious Chicken Thai green curry. But today it was sloppy. Like an Irish version of Thai “carbonara”. Terrible. Even chips were undercooked. Such a shame. Original curry was so authentic. Today was a cream mush. Left June 25. Right pic May 24.

Italian restaurant
Nestled in a basement, La Piccola Italia is a hidden gem in Limerick's dining scene. Run by the Italian couple Anna and Alfredo, it offers delectable dishes like tagliata and penne arrabiata con salsiccia. The cozy ambiance and accommodating staff make it perfect for a quiet dinner, although finding the restaurant may be a bit of a challenge. Once inside, patrons are treated to excellent service and generous portions of authentic Italian cuisine.
We came here on our one night stay in Limerick and had such an amazing experience. The place very charming, but is a bit hidden. We walked down some stairs and rang the doorbell. Were greated by two very nice and polite servers. It felt a bit like being greeted for dinner at a friends. We ordered the carbonara and lasagna with salad for dinner. The carbonara was good but the lasagna was one of the best I have ever had at a restaurant! We decided to get some desert. My husband had the tiramisu and I had the coppa amarena (vanilla ice cream with black cheeries). We could not stop eating the coppa amarena. So simple, yet so good. I have to say, as soon as I sat down I had the feeling of being hugged by my grandmother. It would actually have been her birthday the day we went to La Poccola Italia, and I definitely thought of her when we had our dinner. This would have been a restaurant she would have frequented if it had been available in our country.
Rakel B — Google review
Food was generally OK. Mussels for starter were very good. Main - the Filetto al Pepe - tasty, but presentation very poor. This medallions in pepper sauce looks like a blob on the plate. It was served with some sliced and roasted potatoes, which were fine, but a piece of cauliflower and brocoli served with this dish in my opinion does not work at all. Tiramisu for the dessert was ok. Restaurant does not have any sweetener for coffee and waitress offered honey instead. Well, that is also sugar... Place is a bit run down - hanging bare wires from the ceiling, not build in properly aircon unit, so it is not adding at all to the atmosphere.

La Piccola is a warm place with great staff and good food. We visited the Italian restaurant a couple of weeks ago. The ambience of the place is great and warm. Perfect for q quiet dinner. We unexpectedly had a colleague join us with their young child (not mentioned during our reservation). The staff were generous to accommodate us and were very patient with the child. The only complaint would be about the quantity of food portions (especially the seafood ravioli). It is not very filling. On the other hand the pizza looked good. Desserts were delightfully delicious. Will definitely visit again.

This is one of the most special restaurants you will ever come across. My friends and I were traveling through Ireland this March and stumbled upon this place. It got great reviews, and we had time to kill before our bus out of town. The food was exceptional, and the owner/staff were exceptionally kind. The hit of the night was the owner’s wife’s homemade pistachio cheesecake. One of the best desserts I have ever tasted. One of the members of our party ordered it, we all tried it, and ended up ordering 3 additional slices so the rest of the group could enjoy it was THAT GOOD. The restaurant staff are some of the kindest people we have come across in all of Ireland. When our bus out of town never showed up at night, they were so kind to help us figure it out as it was getting late, our phones were low battery, and most of the businesses in town had closed including the bus company’s customer service office. The cook even had his daughter on the phone looking up additional ways for us to get back to Killarney where we were staying. If you are looking for a lovely meal, a cozy atmosphere, and exceptional service from kind-hearted staff this is the place to come!

This Italian restaurant is very cozy and is a hidden gem in limerick. We went there for a date night and it was amazing. The food is freshly cooked. But please save room of dessert, they are delicious. They also have a nice selection of wines. The restaurant is underneath so can be tricky to find. We went in on a Monday and it was busy enough so I will recommend to book in. Over all our experience was great and can not wait to go there again

This place is a hidden gem in limerick city, beautiful Italian restaurant with cozy vibes. The selection of food is authentic and rich in flavor. We’ve had Caprese salad as a starter, the quality of tomato and mozarella were really nice, and you can feel the originality of that olive oil and herbs. Fettuccine Alfredo is a great option for vegetarians or people with some food restrictions. Pasta is well cooked and the cream used in the dish is really tasty. That fish (sole) I believe it’s called was the best I’ve ever tasted tbh. It’s a big portion and well seasoned. The staff were very nice and welcoming, I highly recommend this place and will definitely go back for more options!

Disappointing Experience on a Special Occasion We visited this restaurant to celebrate our niece’s 17th birthday and were looking forward to a lovely evening. While the food was decent—albeit a bit overpriced—and the wine and dessert were enjoyable, our experience was unfortunately overshadowed by the behavior of another guest seated nearby. We encountered deeply inappropriate and offensive conduct, which we attempted to report to the staff. Regrettably, our concerns were not acknowledged, and we felt unsupported throughout the incident. It’s disheartening that what should have been a joyful celebration was marred by such an unpleasant situation. We hope the management considers implementing measures to better support guests and address disruptive behavior in the future.

Knappogue Castle, located in County Clare, Ireland, dates back to 1467 and was originally a medieval tower house serving as a watchtower during times of conflict. In the 19th century, it underwent extensive restoration to reflect Gothic and Medieval styles after being acquired by Theobald Fitzwalter Butler. The castle now offers elaborate medieval-themed banquets and features a walled garden for visitors to explore.
We're glad we booked this on our bus tour. We had a great night. The small castle was kept in good condition. You'll be greeted with the staff that is dressed in medieval time and a Mead. Wish they have the Mead in the table coz that would have been really nice. They do have red and white wine in jugs. The food was nice. It's a 4 course meal. We love the whole act with singing and dance performance. It's worth the night.

The bell tower is so tall that you can see it from just about every building in Limerick..... It defines their skyline..... Built the 1850-60's, the cathedral is a Victorian high Gothic design and the stone work is beautifu....l. The bell tower has real bells from Dublin and is one of the tallest in all of Ireland...... Lovely stained glass windows......A place of beauty and peace......👍👍👍🙂🙂This is a piece of Limerick city and it is beautiful. First time to visit this location, what a wonderful place to find, it is a good 20 minute drive from Limerick City, the roads are quite dangerous on the way, so make sure to keep to the left and proceed with caution, apart from that there is some parking spaces but not sure what time they close the gates as times may vary for winter hours, there is a information centre and reception there we had a peep inside, very nice indeed, the church seems quite new, it looks like a modern version of an ancient structure, there is a nice walk down the abbey, lots of tree specimens to view, and along the road we passed the what seems like a running river, maybe into a lake, and the views are stunning, I snapped some really nice pictures of the castle, gate and cannons. The letters PAX is above the gate, it means Peace in Latin, very interesting stories about this place, monks living here and anyone can come stay if they want to experience what it's like living a simple life, not sure what is a charge for the retreat, but would be interesting to say the least.

A beautiful place to commune with nature and, if you're inclined, to have a quiet reflective moment in their cheerful church. My son spent a number of his secondary years here and I used to visit him every other weekend so it was nice to go back there for the first time in 4 years. Gardens are so impressive and well maintained with an array of flowers and trees that are not commonly seen. The weather was unusually kind so we saw Glenstal at its very best.

Calm and quiet place. Best for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Hospitality of the Benedictine priests are great.

Limerick Greenway, a historic site where the Treaty of Limerick was signed in 1691, marked a turning point in Irish history. The greenway offers a magnificent 40 km tarmacadam path for cycling and walking, with plans to expand it further. It features gentle climbs and stops with picnic tables and seats along the way.
A lovely walk with nice views. The maintenance and development is ongoing and very welcome for users. Excellent signage for access and location in case of accident or emergency. A great place to escape with the family or alone for a walk, run or cycle.
John C — Google review
My husband and I cycled the greenway over 2 days Barnagh to Rathkeale and back then the next day Listowel to Barnagh and back really nice experience. It was very quiet only a few other cyclists hoping it will be used more in the future. As gates close at 5pm on the Limerick section, I wonder if it was open longer like Dungarvan more people would cycle especially after work on the long summer evenings ? Just a thought 😁
Breda G — Google review
The limerick green way is some 40 kms each way currently, it is being expanded a further 10 kms shortly, tarmacadam path throughout, there are a few stops along the way with picnic tables and seats, there are some climbs but it's pretty gentle. We'll laid out.
Pat K — Google review
Really nice greenway for all type of cyclists, me more like an expert still enjoy a lot of this greenway, not just the amazing surface but aswell as the coffee stops and the amazing view along the spin.
Luis M — Google review
We did the whole greenway and also returned to the car was 72 km trip the road service was all tarmac and we was able to stop and get a bite to eat and a cup of tea (get to go through a tunnel on the way to the cafe)

Brilliant trip from Rathkeale to Newcastle. RATHKEALE to be a hub great parking facility takeaway available at weekends walk or cycle
David N — Google review
Perfect for family cicling or a trip with friends. Best cycling track I have seen. Many places to stop and take a rest.

We cycled from NCW to Abbeyfeale and back... Lovely cycle, really well maintained track (we saw a sweeper van out). A pull up to Barna, then gradual downhill to Abbeyfeale. Stopped for lunch there, town 1km from greenway. The coffee pot on main street, doesn't look much but lovely fresh sambos, really nice lady there filled our waterbottles with ice... Lovely day out. We'll done tourist board. Can't wait for Listowel part to be done..

A piece of Italy in the center of Limerick!! The atmosphere, the food - Il Padrino pizza, spaghetti bolognese or cannelloni -, furniture and arts on the wall - remind me about the evenings on the Amalfi Coast. Pizza Napoli and spaghetti carbonara are so delicious as well. Add to your must go list!!
Virgil C — Google review
Really nice place, really nice food and really nice service. The waiter was checking if everything was ok and brought me parmesean cheese to add to my caneloni al forno. Delicius garlic bread as well. Super fast service and kind people. The only downside is that they are close for dinner time, cause i would have loved to go back for dinner.

Great food, kind & friendly employees; just an overall great experience! 10/10 highly recommended

Decent pizza but was cold when it arrived. Pizzas are expensive and service isn't great. Told us it's pay as you go and you have to pay for the food when you order but the waiter didn't arrive down to take our money until after the meal??
Andrew M — Google review
Lovely place which is veggie friendly! They even serve a vegan pizza which you can see in my picture. It's with olives, tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, almonds and pesto. Only thing... They ask if you want to have cheese on your vegan pizza... Which would then make the pizza not longer vegan... It was tasty either way
Pia S — Google review
A good spot for a brew and pizza! We stopped by to see the town. While walking around, we found this place and decided to give it a try. It was mid-afternoon, the place was empty and quiet, nice for us... Beer was cold, pizza was hot, wc clean! The guy making pizza is good, he's got some skill.
Dave I — Google review
The street style venue with a stage and indoor, yet open canopy place for pub and pizza. The is a good variety of pizza and other food on offer. And there is good space and character in the place. Subtle touches to the place make it unique. The pizza was also good, however I had to wait over an hour to wait for it. I'm not sure if that is normal, if it was because they just opened up the kitchen at 5pm, were understaffed, or is the norm. When the pizza had finally arrived, the beer had gone flat, so it wasn't a good combination in the end. More effort is needed to make this place an outstanding one.
Kwok N — Google review
Great pint, good selection of beer and whiskeys, cozy place full of charm.

Nice pizza/pub/live mysic place. Afyer the last food is served and eaten, the tables go out and the whole place is a standing/dancing bar. 4* coz ate a better pizza in many places and this should be the No.1 puzza place in Limerick.

Irish pub
The White House Bar is located in the heart of Limerick city, and locals come here to have conversations about the typical topics found in Irish pubs. The bar always has a friendly and helpful staff, and it is also known for its great ambience. Like many pubs in Ireland, The White House Bar often fills up during busy times. When it's quiet, though, the atmosphere can be quite relaxing.
Had a great night here, reasonable prices and helpful staff
Niall Q — Google review
Nice pub to relax and inhale the irish flair. Best thing is that you get chicken and chips for free if you are there in the afternoon, really delicious 😋 If you are a tourist be open to the locals, its fun to step into a conversation.

Whilst on a trip to Limerick from England, with sister in law (from Bonnie Scotland) we popped in for a drinkie at this charming pub. Gorgeous pint of Guinness, amazing Halloween dressed staff and beautiful autumnal decorations. Hope you don't mind the photo Mr bar man who graciously allowed his photo to be taken. After take 5 we managed to stop laughing at him trying to look scarey. Made my day 🤣🤣. See you next time we visit Ireland 💚☘️

Nestled in a cozy corner, The Scholars Club and Bar is the perfect spot for those seeking a relaxed dining experience. With an inviting atmosphere and friendly staff, it offers a delightful menu featuring daily carvery options that cater to gatherings of up to 80 people. Patrons rave about the good value food and drinks, including their well-crafted coffee and warm Guinness.
My favourite spot for coffee and meal.

Incredibly rude to students. I've seen the bartender there mocking people for things as simple as asking the price of an item. He'll refuse to give you tap water, even if your group are all drinking. Once you've finished your pint, he'll wait 3 minutes or so before asking you to buy another or leave(even though it's nearly empty most times).
Ruadhan D — Google review
Ordered an açai and it was horrible do not recommend. 7.50 for dried bananas and peanut butter with loads of hard rock chunks, and the açai was thin and tastes awful. Could not finish it.

Since this place has been under new managment it keeps getting better and better. It has an amazing friendly staff team and the atmosphere is so welcoming. They went above and beyond we couldn't have asked for better service, food and drink. we would recommend anyone to come here!
Kyle J — Google review
Decent food for lunch and great coffee at a reasonable price. Definitely have the tastiest vegetarian friendly in the entireity of campus. Only downside is that they close extremely early at 5pm during the summer. Slight expensive compared to other campus restaurants.
Pranav K — Google review
Very cosy place with a nice ambience. The coffee here is nice and the food is good value for money. The only problem is that it's not open late on a Friday night as a quiet alternative to other louder bars such as the Stables Club. However, I strongly recommend this place for its food and drink and occasional live bands and open mic night.

Historical landmark
Carrigogunnell Castle, with origins dating back to 1209, was granted to the OBriens by King John and later rebuilt in 1449. The castle met its demise during the Siege of Limerick in 1691. Accessible through a slightly rugged road, the ruins offer insight into medieval village layouts and provide stunning views of the Shannon estuary.
As advised by another reviewer, park at the local church but be careful of the road when walking to the castle. Beautiful spot with amazing views
Limerick L — Google review
This is on the map but it’s at the end of a small road and probably on private property but no signs to say you can’t walk up the path which could be a bit muddy with evident of horses. You gotta check it out as it’s an amazing find. Cows down below this massive castle complex. Stone walls and steps in good shape for climbing where they haven’t lost a wall 🤣
Mark B — Google review
Amazing place, we went early in the morning around 10 and had the entire castle to ourselves. Google maps will take you to a gate that is not the entrance. You can park at the end of a road on the south side of the castle, hop the gate and walk up the hill for some awesome views and great pictures.
Austin — Google review
Hidden gem near Limerick! Carrigogunnell Castle is a hauntingly beautiful ruin with incredible atmosphere. The ivy-covered stone walls and towering remains make it feel like stepping back in time. From the windows and arches you get stunning views of the surrounding countryside. There’s no visitor centre or facilities, but that’s part of the charm—it feels wild and untouched. Wear good shoes, as the ground can be uneven, and bring a sense of adventure. Perfect spot for history lovers, photographers, or anyone who enjoys exploring Ireland’s forgotten castles.
Anton — Google review
The Carrigogunnell Castle was nice to see. Its not guarded or any areas sectioned off. Its not preserved. So you have to be careful walking around the site. There is no actually road leading to the castle, the road is a dead end and very narrow. At the dead end of the road there is a trail you have to follow to the castle.
Momo A — Google review
Amazing castle ruins that are completely off the beaten path. Hard to find!! Go one turn past where Google tells you to go; this takes you on a very narrow road that ends at a gate. Hike up a thorny overgrown path near the gate that winds around up to the ruins on the hill. If you follow Google map, you'll go to the other side of the castle to a private residence. Definitely worth the adventurous effort!
Dee D — Google review
Carrigogunnell Castle is a beautiful spot! Nestled on a country hill with some lovely views of the surrounding landscape! Easily accessible from a rather bumpy road! Highly recommend a visit to this historic site!
