Sports bar
Brickhaus is a vibrant spot in Viejo San Juan that offers custom mixed drinks tailored to your preferences. The bar serves delicious, not overly sweet cocktails at a reasonable price. The menu features a diverse yet simple selection of bar food, including excellent wings and authentic pina coladas. The outdoor seating area is perfect for enjoying the lively atmosphere with your furry friend.
This is a fun, outdoor bar/restaurant, close to the square and the pier. Great outdoor ambiance with excellent people watching. You see tourists and locals. Very friendly server that chatted with us. Beers were super cold, cheap and service was excellent. We could see our ship, which is very comforting. Big umbrellas to shield from light rain. However, the rain went torrential so we had to go inside. The server told us a story about once winds got really high that umbrellas lifted out of their holder !

We (fiance and me) came for lunch and had the bbq ribs and mozzarela sticks.. good food and good drinks. Cecilia kept checking on us and provided very good service. Definitely a place to come back.
Manuela B — Google review
Food was delicious and waiter was really nice. Cool little spot where you can sit inside or out. My boyfriend got the wings and said they were delicious!
Crystal D — Google review
Carlitos greeted us and made the entire experience so enjoyable! The chicken wings were absolutely delicious and the local IPA was tasty! If you’re looking for a casual spot with good vibes, check it out!

Stopped by this place in Old San Juan and got a bite to eat. The Asian wings were some of the best wings I've ever had. My husband had the Cholo burger and he loved it. Our waiter, Danny, was super nice and personable. Would recommend this place if you're looking for food in Old San Juan. The prices were good and they had outdoor seating available.
Debbie K — Google review
Popular cruise spot by the Plaza Colon offering wings, burgers, and other bar food options. Variety of mixed drinks or beers. TVs for watching sports, bar and table service. Carlos provided excellent service and was very friendly! They offer regular, medium, or "Vacation" size drinks!
Allison — Google review
I’ve been a few times and each time has been amazing. The wings are the best. I like the hot flavor. Not too spicy but the taste is really good. I’ve had great service there as well. The staff is always friendly and engaging with customers. I’ll likely come here for those wings every time I’m in San Juan.

I’m from Chicago and I landed in San Juan an hour before my Bears played the Cowboys. I found a couple "sports bars" on Google Maps but walking up to this place I felt like home. Sure they brought me in with the Bears flag in the window but they also have packers paraphernalia (shudder). Rivalries aside: get the Cholo burger with the yuca fries. It's a bit spicy but oh boy it's good. Ymir is so attentive that he knew when my bottle beer was empty. Great staff all around. Great food too.

Puerto Rican restaurant
Restaurant
El Jibarito is a long-standing restaurant in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, known for serving classic regional and Caribbean-style dishes. The restaurant offers a family-friendly ambiance with salsa music playing in the courtyard and simple decor. Despite its casual atmosphere, El Jibarito has earned a reputation for having some of the best mofongo in the area, attracting both locals and tourists.
During our recent visit to this restaurant, we were greeted by a waiting list. The duration of the wait can vary. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with authentic decor. However, parking is limited. The service was exceptional, and the cuisine was extraordinary. Our meal consisted of fried chops, arroz con gandules, garlic shrimp, fried plantains, white rice with beans, and cube steak with onions.
Kendry R — Google review
The staff were amazing and the inside of the restaurant is super fun. The food though was lacking for most of our group (mofongo was the winning meal). Everything was lacking flavor and the salads were just some clumps of lettuce with a tomato chunk with no dressing. No one in our group was happy with the food and we just ate because we were hungry but we didn't bring anything back with us. Steaks were thin, chicken had no flavor, the shrimp were sad, and the rice was so-so. The drinks were good and the restaurant is located in a popular location and was packed on our visit. Maybe their food will work for you but we'd recommend looking around because there are lots of restaurants nearby. Good luck 👍

Hands down some of the best Puerto Rican food on the island. Every bite tasted authentic — perfectly seasoned, cooked with love, and full of flavor that reminded me of true homemade comida criolla. Located right in the heart of Old San Juan, this spot captures the essence of Puerto Rico both in taste and atmosphere. If you’re looking for real Puerto Rican cuisine, this is the place
Daniel R — Google review
This was my first experience with Puerto Rican food and this was really good. I had the red snapper with mofongo and it was so good! Everything was awesome! Great service. No wait time. Loved it! Will be back!!
Sharon N — Google review
We had dinner here, and had to wait a bit for the table but we were fine with that. We saw that people who came after us were seated before us though. Once we finally got seated, no one brought us any menus, so that was inconvenient. We had to grab them ourselves from the front. We had the baked filet and baked salmon, the filet was better than the salmon. The green plantain and trifongo were pretty good.
Maryum B — Google review
This is one of the most recommended places in Old San Juan. Of course you have to wait because the place is not huge and the service is not that fast, but once the food arrives, you understand why it took so long. I had the Plato Navideño (Christmas dish), which has a bit of everything. The food has a homey taste that you’ll love. Definitely would come back!
Patricia C — Google review
When I was a kid my mom made cube steaks regularly. Haven’t had one since visiting this restaurant over 50 years later. It was so tasty. The yellow rice was good and even better with garlic sauce on it. My husband had the garlic chicken that he said was great. Sorry no food pics. We were so hungry we forgot. But definitely authentic PR food. Don’t miss this place.
Kathleen A — Google review
This place was very good. We had a large party so had to wait a bit. It’s a little cramped inside overall but worth it for the good food and drinks. Our waitress made recommendations to our party. Some had salmon, shrimp dishes, steak and onions and I had a fabulous roasted pork - so tender, expertly cooked and seasoned. I had mofongo as my side, also the white rice with beans was very good. We had margaritas, rum punch and mojitos. The rum punch was lit! I should have gotten one to go. But the glasses are pretty small - but it’s only 8 bucks which isn’t bad. The food came quickly despite how busy they were. The salad that comes with the meal is small and no dressing - will need to use oil and vinegar. It can feel noisy but it’s because it’s so small. Feel very family style. Loved it. I don’t think they accept cash payments at all. Also the menu is QR code to a Google Drive which can be a pain to pull up. Attaching it here hopefully helps! I would definitely eat here again. And it is on a tiny street that is hard to navigate for drivers - but we took an uber and it was fine. We did walk to the walking area after which was mostly downhill.

Vegetarian restaurant
Volando Bajito is a top vegetarian and vegan restaurant in Puerto Rico, offering innovative vegan comfort food like cauliflower wings and sliders. The trendy decor makes it a great spot to spend an entire afternoon. They also serve authentic Korean wings, fried twice for extra crispiness, and take pride in making most of their menu items in-house. Customers rave about the delicious veggie wings and the welcoming atmosphere.
Just delicious! We had the Veggie Wings, they were so so so GOOD!! Awesome service! You feel welcomed from the moment you enter. Ordering the coffee is an experience by itself! Awesome place for vegan and non vegan friends to hang out together!
Mileyka C — Google review
The vegetarian food is amazing here. The vegan wings with boriqua sauce is to die for!! I can't express how much you should travel to eat here.
John H — Google review
A nicely decorated place with little ambiance. I really liked the idea of the food, but unfortunately it didn't deliver. For a fast food style place (picnic table, order at the counter and take a buzzer) the food was very overpriced - it cost $29 for cauliflower wings and fries. Part of that was due to the 'tipping' that is requested when paying at the counter. Given that there's no service provided, I'd suggest that at the most the pre-set tip selections start at 5%, 7% etc - not 15%, 18% (possibly this is a way to help cover the cost of the 7 staff that were working in the empty restaurant). Maybe if they had some great value deals of offer I'd go back, but at this price it was really disappointing.
Jane B — Google review
Love the look of the place and delicious food. The server was super sweet and amazing at explaining thinks ( Thank you Lucky ♧) You know who you are 😁

Best dinner I had while in San Juan. Chicken wings for the meat eaters and lots of amazing options for vegetarians, plus great beer selection. Casual place where you order at the counter.
Mark S — Google review
Great food, amazing and unique place. Pet friendly! Chicken wings are heaven.
Danixa R — Google review
Great wings, large selection of craft beer, fresh juice, and guava ketchup!! Area for kids also which is great help.
Arcelia G — Google review
After reading several reviews we decided to stop by, unfortunately we had overestimated the results of the food we would have received later that night. The staff was super friendly and the ambiance is quite enjoyable. However, the veggie wings were super soft and there was a hair in them. The American sauce was good, it was just the overall soft texture of the wings that was hard to overcome. The fries were good and the pineapple juice was amazing. Wish I would’ve taken the idea to order without ice though! It was more pricey that what I was expecting but it seemed fine because of the positive reviews and quality of ingredients, just a little disappointed this first round for not really enjoying what I had ordered. Although we didn’t have a great first time I could be inclined to try another dish at a later point.

If you're on the hunt for mouthwatering buffalo wings in Puerto Rico, look no further than Buffalo Wings & BBQ Señorial. This unpretentious eatery is a local favorite, known for its incredibly tasty chicken wings that keep patrons coming back for more. With six different sauces to choose from—ranging from a rich buttery mantequilla to zesty hot sauce and savory garlic parmesan—there's something to satisfy every palate.
Delicious "alitas" and lots of salsas to combine with! Quick service and nice staff.
Pascal L — Google review
Good food, good prices. Horrible customer service. My family ordered food to at the Salon and while we were in the process of finishing put food we ordered another coke 2l extra, to the one we already order with the combo and and was hot. And it came out of the cooler fridge then asked for ice, they don't have any asked for a substitute of cold cans but they said Manager won't allow it and to finish the whole bad experience they shut the lights off just in the area that my family was eating we didn't finish our food picked up the rest and left. Terrible customer service.
Jose R — Google review
Wings were perfect. I put 3 stars because they dont have Buffalo sauce!?!? Seriously! It's called Buffalo for Christ sake lol. Everything else was good. If they make a more interesting sauce menu I will come for the wings.
Saul M — Google review
Good wings and good prices. Definitely going back.
Samuel S — Google review
I order a combo of 10 pieces of chicken wings with BBQ sauce and when I get home with the combo i noted that they have put marinara sauce instead of BBQ sauce. I call back and they didn't gave me an other order free of charge for there mistake. They just hang off the phone.
Fredelí R — Google review
Great fried chicken wings, but I think they can do better with the seasoning. If you buy your wings naked, more often than not the seasoning is bland. Their delivery system is efficient and the service attentive.
Ramon R — Google review
Tried to order and a guy had a terrible customer service via phone. Asked for the sauces and only gave me 3 options, i know they had more so I asked again and said that if I knew they had other sauces why did I ask. Bad service. Otherwise, everythings good.

Barrachina is a historic indoor-outdoor venue located in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is renowned as the birthplace of the world-famous Pina Colada, which was created by Don Ramon Portas Mingot in its magnificent courtyard back in 1963. The restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring Spanish, Puerto Rican, and international dishes that cater to every palate. Whether you're craving traditional local specialties or familiar international cuisine, Barrachina has something wonderful for everyone.
The food was absolutely amazing!!! First time in Puerto Rico and I would highly recommend. The staff was very welcoming and helped us with food selections. It was my First time eating Mofongo and I would tell everyone to try it! It’s a very hardy dish that reminds you of Homemade mash potatoes but better!
Freddie J — Google review
There's construction going on but still made the best of it. We are on a cruise and stopped in San Juan and was suggested this restaurant. The garlic shrimp was delicious. Pina Coladas were good very pineapple tasting. We also tried the Puerto Rican Delight. The empamadas looking things were good and the corn sticks were yummy. We were not a fan of the croquettes but that could be just us.
Ashley L — Google review
Barra China in Old San Juan is a good place to drink a cold and delicious piña colada at a reasonable price. The food was just ok and nothing to brag about, but tasty! I’ve always liked the tropical 🌴 atmosphere at Barra China, but after years and years of visiting this bar/restaurant I think that some remodeling and updates to the venue will bring in more business. The piña colada recipe continues to be the star ⭐️ of the show and the service friendly as always. See you soon BC! 🇵🇷
Alicia M — Google review
We tried their famous piña coladas—they were good, though I was hoping for a thicker, creamier texture. The appetizers were solid overall, but the standout was definitely the stuffed plantains. They were packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. A tasty start to the meal in a lively atmosphere.
Margarita S — Google review
Fun to try the first Pina Colada. We ordered food too and I would NOT order the skirt steak. I'm not sure what it was marinated with but we couldn't even take a bite and ended up paying for a full uneaten plate. We also had the seafood Mofungo. It wasn't my favorite but the seafood was decent. We did like the appetizer plate (2 person portion was easily split by 5). The staff were sweet and friendly! Nice little gift shop next door too.
Bree K — Google review
They were under construction, so I imagine the atmosphere will be amazing soon but was just ok for us. Food was good but not exceptional. Pina coladas are as good as expected for the reputation.
Crystal T — Google review
We went for the piña colada and it was good. They were closing so we were only allowed to get it to go. I felt like I was drinking my mom’s fermented pineapple juice extract. I think it was because it was the original, the bar tender couldn’t explain to us the meaning of the taste of it because to us it was different from other ones we had.
Ingrid H — Google review
If you come here stick to the Pina colada drinks!!! Read more and you’ll find out why. Let’s start with the outside, gorgeous exterior, great photo opportunities. We walked inside and waited for the hostess. We debated whether on grabbing drinks to go vs enjoying drinks at the bar but it was crowded. After waiting a couple of minutes at the to go bar we decided to dine in. Service was still slow at the dining area and the waitress made a comment that she would not be able to greet our table anytime soon since she had other tables. We were there for almost 20minutes or so before we were able to place our order. Eventually she greeted our table and she was fairly pleasant. Of course we ordered Pina coladas which were absolutely delicious. My homegirl is a slow drinker and surprisingly she finished her drink before me! The tostones with pollo and plantanos with mariscos were decent. It lacked flavor but for the price and how hungry we were at that moment we still ate it.

The puerto rican restaurant Ropa Vieja Grill is a highly recommendable and amazing place with renowned chefs. The food here is flavorful Caribbean food served in an elegant and colorful way. The outdoor seating is great if you like to people watch.
Where to start- you may have to wait slightly but it's so very worth it. Dine in or outside. Relaxed. Upbeat atmosphere. Food=delicious. Chicken mofonga with garlic sauce blew my mind! It was chef's kiss 💋! Bartender: Christopher was fun, lively and attentive. Angel, I think he works behind the scenes, but he remembered me from eating here the other day and we had a pleasant conversation. His personality was also lively and fun. Then there's Edgardo, my server, who didn't let my water glass get empty. He checked on me several times during my meal and had such a kind and professional way about himself. First time in Puerto Rico and this was something I'll always remember. Food was bon' apetit!

Located right next to our hotel, Ropa Vieja Grill was an easy and convenient lunch choice. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, giving you flexibility depending on the weather and your vibe. The setup is clean, casual, and welcoming — great for a quick midday bite or a relaxed evening meal. 🍽️ Food & Drinks I ordered the red snapper, and it was excellent — cooked to a perfect crisp on the outside while remaining tender and moist inside. The seasoning was spot on, not too heavy, with just the right amount of salt to enhance the flavor without overpowering the fish. 👨‍🍳 Service & Hospitality Our server was quick, attentive, and made sure we were well taken care of. Service was smooth, and our food came out in good time, which made the experience all the more pleasant. 💡 Unique Selling Point Ropa Vieja Grill doesn’t try to do too much — and that’s what makes it great. If you’re looking for reliable, flavorful Puerto Rican food in a convenient location with friendly service, this is a solid choice.

Visiting the area and this place was across from our hotel and was highly rated so we tried it out. We ordered the Empanadas for an appetizer and the Ropa Vieja for dinner. I had rice and beans and sweet plantains as a side and my husband had rice and beans and Yuca as his side. Everything was delicious! The best part of our dinner was the service we received from our waiter Edgardo! My husband needed bug spray as we were sitting outside and he offered us to move inside but instead was able to find bug spray so we could continue our outside dining experience, true customer service! I highly recommend this restaurant and if you can ask for Edgardo you definitely should!

We had an excellent dining experience at Ropa Vieja. From the moment we arrived, the staff was friendly and welcoming. Our server, Kiddany, provided outstanding service—he offered thoughtful recommendations, ensured our meals were exactly to our liking, and was attentive throughout our visit. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, impeccably clean, and conveniently located near the beach, making it a perfect choice for both visitors and locals. The food was flavorful and well-prepared, and the overall atmosphere created a memorable dining experience. We highly recommend Ropa Vieja and look forward to returning on our next visit.

Ropa Vieja Grill is one of those places you stumble on and instantly want to come back to. The flavors are Caribbean at their finest; tender meat, perfectly seasoned rice and beans, and every dish full of rich, Cuban-Puerto Rican flavor. The atmosphere is warm and inviting with outdoor seating, an extensive wine list, and beautiful cocktails that complement the food perfectly.

Yo soy cubana y yo apruebo este restaurante! The food is exceptional, it’s fast and it’s delicious. The entire menu is great. The only thing that should be revisited is adding more items for the kids. My toddler is a vegetarian and a picky eater. That food selection for kids was very small. Also please spray for mosquitos. At 3:20 pm this place has mosquitos 🦟 and tons of bugs. It needs to be sprayed. But other than that, I am Cuban and this is legit. Our waitress is amazing too. Don’t leave without trying the Coquito Cosmolitan

Delicious!!! Beat empanada's on the island! Best red beans I've ever had. The ropa vieja was amazing. Great place with wonderful service and delicious food. What more could you want? 5 stars Kidanny was our server and he was the best!! Highly recommend you give this place a shot!!

Café Manolín Old San Juan is a beloved local spot that serves up traditional Creole-style cuisine in a cozy and welcoming setting. This 1950s diner is a popular choice for breakfast and lunch, attracting both locals and tourists with its simple yet delicious dishes. After enjoying a meal at Café Manolín, visitors can explore the charming streets of Old San Juan, stopping by nearby shops like Pure Soul Boutique for unique clothing and housewares.
Absolutely in love with this quaint, cozy spot. The staff was incredible. The food was absolutely delicious and hit all the right notes. The mofongo was moist, the meat was juicy and so flavorful. Great portions and great prices. The drinks were also delicious and so well balanced. I will say it's suuuuper busy. I got lucky with seats at the bar but it was still elbow to elbow. Didn't take away from the experience but worth noting. Go here! 5🌟

Café Manolín is a gem in Old San Juan! Super chill spot with classic Puerto Rican food that hits the spot. They serve up authentic island comfort food with fast service and generous portions. Don’t leave without drinks & dessert too; coffee with brown sugar, “china”(fresh orange juice), flan & a shot of local Rum made this a great way to kick off our adventure in PR.

Our food was out of this world and the wine pairing elevated our experience to the next level. The service was exceptional, thank you Anna! This was a special treat but way worth the cost.

We were on the hunt for affordable Puerto Rican food in Old San Juan—and we found a hidden gem! This place is absolutely amazing. There’s no big sign out front, and while GPS said it was on the right, it’s actually on the left. Just look for a purple building with a small sign—that’s your spot. The vibe inside is warm and cozy, like a mix between a café and a diner. The prices are super reasonable, and the menu has a great variety of Puerto Rican favorites. We ordered the 10 oz churrasco and wow—it was cooked to perfection. I’d read that this spot has the best churrasco on the island, and I have to agree. If you’re in Old San Juan and craving authentic, affordable Puerto Rican food, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommend!

We sat at the counter which was tight. The waitress didn’t tell me switching rice and beans for mofongo was up priced. The mofongo dry and hard. The waitress forgot to upgrade my husband’s rice and beans which was a good thing because the rice and beans were better. His king fish and plantains were good.

Manolín Café was the perfect taste of San Juan during our cruise stop. The place was buzzing with locals, the line moved quickly, and the energy felt authentic. I had the mofongo with fried pork—crispy, garlicky, and packed with flavor. It was exactly the kind of local experience you hope to find between ports.

Food might be good if it were served hot. Looks good. Atmosphere is perfect for what you would expect for local counter restaurant has a few tables in the back.

Wifey and I had a late lunch at this location. It was highly recommended and we absolutely loved it. We were on a cruise celebrating 10 years of marriage, and we very much wanted something local and authentic. From the warm welcome, the great service from our server Jerry, to the drinks and the excellent food. It was worth every penny and every minute. We will definitely plan to return on our next visit to Puerto Rico

Cafetería Mallorca is a charming throwback to the 1950s, offering a cozy diner-style experience in San Juan. This spot is renowned for its signature dish, the Mallorca - a sweet and fluffy buttery egg bread sprinkled with powdered sugar. The café opens at 7:00 a.m., welcoming locals and visitors alike to savor this traditional Puerto Rican delight.
The place has a very casual and laid-back vibe. There’s nothing particularly unique about the atmosphere, and most of the staff are middle-aged, which gives it a homey feel. If you're looking to try a local breakfast in San Juan, this was definitely the best spot for us. I'll share photos of the menu below to give you an idea. We tried the mollarco, and it was very tasty. I had the plain one, and it was perfect with coffee — highly recommended! My husband had the cheese-filled version, which was also good, but we both preferred the plain one. Overall, it’s a nice spot for a simple and authentic local breakfast. Definitely worth a visit!

WOW! All I have to say. This place was all over my page online so I decided to give it a try. Everything was so fresh I was blown away. The bread was to die for highly recommend. One last thing to add our server was great.

Don’t even have the words to describe this place. I have been thinking about my Mallorca with eggs and swiss ever since I walked out the door after paying. I immediately searched where I can get mallorcas in the city I live in once I’m back. Our waiter was the best part of this restaurant he was so edgy and hilarious but still kind and tended to our needs before we even asked. The pastries were incredible, the drinks were great, and the vibe was 10/10. It’s such a shame there are no local PR restaurants like this in my city, I’m craving my order again 😭
Nina H — Google review
Loved it, service is a little slower but it seems like an very older gentleman takes orders & serves the food by himself. Seating is limited and my advice is if you see an open table go ahead and seat yourself, even if the table is not cleaned, the older gentleman will clean it. It seems like he knows who has recently sat down. The food was delicious, my wife & I each got a ham, egg, & cheese mallorca and we both loved them. I also had French fries which were very fresh & hot (so hot I had to wait a little bit for them to cool down). My wife got a papaya shake which she couldn't stop telling me about how good it was and kept offering me some. I recommend this place but get there early because again Seating is limited. The price was very generous, for 2 ham, egg, & cheese mallorca, French fries, a papaya shake, a 12 oz sprite, 2 16 oz dasani bottle water and tax came to a little over $20 . The decor needs some work but the food is so delicious you barely notice, this is a very mom & pop establishment. If you're in Old San Juan or San Juan or heck in Puerto Rico I definitely suggest you go here.
Matbleek — Google review
Mallorca ham, egg, cheese was very tasty. The pork with rice and beans was a good value at 13.95. The service was slow but it is island time, take your time and enjoy. Practice your Spanish before coming, our waiter and person checking us out only spoke Spanish.
Sarah L — Google review
If you're looking to visit Cafeteria Mallorca, the key is to get their early. Seating is limited, and it can be tough to find a place. That said, it is worth planning and making it work. We arrived at around 8:30 AM and got one of few tables left for our family of four. A cruise ship had arrived that day and we watched a pretty steady stream of cruisers wander in from that point forward. Because of the busyness, service was a bit slow. Not really the fault of any of the servers, just the nature of place. But when the food arrived, there was little "happy dances" around our table as everyone tasted what we ordered. We kept it pretty basic by ordering two different sandwiches: Mallorca w/ ham and cheese & Mallorca w/bacon and cheese. They weren't much to look at, but they were some of the tastiest little things. So tasty, in fact, we attempted to remake them in our AirBnB for the next two mornings. An important thing to note - if you're looking for a place to hide from the heat, this won't be the place. Food was great, but it was a bit stuffy sitting there. You acclimate and it doesn't detract from the food, but it isn't the cold blast that you find in other places.
Adam F — Google review
Great food, quick service, fair price! Loved the Mallorca and fresh squeezed orange juice. Coffee was delicious and strong (made in a very cool old machine). Would love to go back for pastries! Get there early if you don’t want to wait

This place was not worth the wait at all!! Definitely over hyped from tik tok. Staff was nice but this place was so cringe it looked almost abandoned inside. I’m scared to know what the kitchen looked like if the front was that falling apart. Food was ok and cheap and hope they remodel from all the extra customers.

Nestled in the heart of San Juan, Cafe del Angel is a beloved gem that captures the essence of Puerto Rican cuisine. This charming eatery offers a delightful array of traditional dishes, including their famous mofongo and mouthwatering crab. The atmosphere is refreshingly unpretentious, reminiscent of classic dining experiences from yesteryears. Eating here this morning was my true Arrival in Puerto Rico. The covfefe was startling - robust and smooth and DELICIOUS. After the first cup my eyes were dilated and I was sweating slightly. I had two cups and I don't think that I would be considered street legal in the continental United States. I followed those with some roast pork which, again, was truly excellent. I'll be back!

Came here for lunch while in San Juan and had a really good experience. The food took me back to great meals my friend's mom used to make when I was growing up. The only downer was the portion of maduros as seen in the picture. The drinks and food tasted great though. The portion given to me of my arroz con pollo was crazy! I was full and still took home half the plate. Great job.

Bakery

Brunch restaurant
Panadería España is a Spanish bakery located in Isla Verde, Puerto Rico. The bakery offers a variety of delicious treats and dishes, including strong coffee, Cubano sandwiches, caldo gallego soup, seafood paella, and braised chorizo. They also serve fresh orange juice and baked goods such as pan de aqua, oversized cookies, and cheese pastries called quesitos. The restaurant has a simple dining area where guests can enjoy their meals.
Very wide selection for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It was very busy—and I can see why! They also have a huge variety of baked goods and sweets. The roast beef and chicken sandwiches were simple yet delicious, and the bakery items were equally tasty. As a visitor to Puerto Rico, this was a wonderful experience that truly made me feel immersed in the local culture and cuisine. The staff were very friendly! I only wish I had discovered this place earlier so I could’ve visited more than once during my trip!

Everything is made fresh to order, which makes a big difference. It’s definitely a must-visit spot for tourists! It’s always busy, but the staff are friendly and attentive. The food was good, just as expected, and they offer a little bit of everything on the menu—something for everyone. The only downside is that parking really sucks, so be prepared for that. Otherwise, great experience!
Carmen — Google review
This place has the potential to be a 5 out of 5, but I would rate it a 3.9. Unfortunately, its popularity has led to a decline in the quality of service. The staff seem stressed and are not in the best mood, with the exception of the car security guard, who is incredibly friendly and attentive—his demeanor nearly elevates this review to a 3.5. There is a wide variety of food options and generous portion sizes, but the soup is disappointingly small. The fried foods are often sad, cold, and not fresh, whereas the cooked dishes and salads are fresh. It's a matter of quality versus quantity—you decide. Overall, this place could certainly improve to achieve a rating of 4 or higher. However, the pastries are nice and offer a good variety as well.
Xavier R — Google review
This place was absolutely delicious. We ended up trying a bunch of baked goods and a few sandwiches. Everything we sampled was fantastic, but their sandwiches were by far the best. Their service was great and fast. Their parking was pretty bad as people parked everywhere. Overall if you have the ability to drive here it’s definitely worth it for your tastebuds.
Coach T — Google review
Why this place has so many good reviews? Cheese flan? It tasted artificial vanilla. Croqueta? It tasted fried dough! I couldn’t eat the whole sandwich, they added a lot of bad quality ham, and cheese that did not tasted cheese, bread was not crispy. The only thing I had that was good, was the coffee, that it! Other thing, staff do not want to be there, they treat you like: “what are you doing here?”. Horrible.
Mariana B — Google review
I was visiting from out of town and HAD to stop at a panadería before catching my flight and this one was on the way. Lucky me. The service was outstanding, the attendant working with me even picked out the best avocado to take home an eat in 1-2 days. I had a lot of fun picking from the assortment of pasteries. I also got a meal from their hot buffet to eat on the plane, which was comforting and flavorful. Next time, I'll have to sit down to eat here, and do a little shopping.
Molly W — Google review
I first spotted Panadería España on my way to Luquillo during my first trip to Puerto Rico, but that trip went so wrong I never got the chance to try it. The second time I visited PR, I landed and immediately told my family, “We have to go!” And we did and wow. We ended up having breakfast there every single day of the trip. The food was absolutely amazing it brought me right back to my childhood. The flavors were just like the ones I grew up with in Spain. And the bakery? No words can do it justice. If I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would. One of the best places I’ve ever been.

Puerto Rican restaurant
Nestled in Old San Juan, La Casita Blanca is a charming restaurant that has been serving both locals and tourists for over 40 years. The name "Little White House" perfectly captures the simplicity of this place, with its potted plants, plastic tablecloths, and old rum bottles used as vases. The menu is exclusively in Spanish and is handwritten on a weathered chalkboard. Upon arrival, guests are greeted with complimentary codfish fritters and plantain soup.
My family and I went to La Casita Blanca on a Saturday night expecting things to be slow or would take long. We were mistaken, after entering they accommodated our group of 8 plus a baby we were immediately seated with warm smiles from all of the employees. Our Waitress, Yoselin was cheerful and a delight. We asked for her recommendations and her recommendations were just what we were looking for, typical Puerto Rican dishes. We were welcomed with sopa de plátano and bacalaito. After ordering our food, it came out quickly and the food was spectacular. The busboys and other servers were very quick to clean up any empty plates and with a joyful attitude. This was truly an experience to remember and a highlight of the Puerto Rican hospitality. 10/10 would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Puerto Rico.

My husband and I went to La Casita Blanca on a Saturday afternoon thinking it might be busy or take a while, but we were pleasantly surprised. As soon as we arrived was seated right away, greeted with warm smiles from the staff. Our waitress, was so friendly and full of positive energy. She gave us great recommendations — exactly what we were hoping for: authentic Puerto Rican dishes. We were welcomed with sopa de plátano and bacalaito, which were both delicious. Our meals came out quickly, and everything was absolutely amazing. The busboys and other servers were also very attentive, keeping the table tidy with cheerful attitudes. Overall, it was a wonderful experience that truly showed the warmth of Puerto Rican hospitality. 10/10 — highly recommend to anyone visiting Puerto Rico!

La Casita Blanca is an excellent local restaurant, away from the typical tourist spots. The decor and ambiance are truly amazing. Fortunately, our wait time was only about 10 minutes, which is quite rare; usually, you're looking at a wait of 1 to 2 hours. However, finding parking took us around 20 minutes, so opting for valet service would likely have been a smarter choice. We ordered carne guisada and bistec encebollado, both beautifully presented. While the flavors were delightful, a touch more salt would have enhanced the dishes further. The service was decent, though we did have to wait a bit to get our server's attention on a few occasions. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience!

We knew the food will be fabulous so it was no shock! We came on Thursday around 2 pm and they close at 4pm on Thursday, thus, no wait for us. We’re seated immediately. Food was 5 stars. I got a Piña colada which was the best I have had! Sprinkle of cinnamon on it was the golden touch. We got the stuffed avocado and skirt steak and fried cheese. All very good. 5 stars all around.

i now know why this is bad bunny’s favorite restaurant. it was absolutely incredible. best meal i’ve had on my trip! we came on a thursday around 2:30, they close at 4 and the wait was about 10 min long to be seated. they give complementary balacao fritters and plantain soup which was amazing to start. we got the beef stew and the skirt steak, both came with rice and it came with a plate of bean soup. also got their espresso martini which was so good. i highly recommend this restaurant and if i return to san juan i will be back!
Jess C — Google review
I came here because of an influencer on IG. The place always had a line wrapped around, with a wait of about 30 mins long. The decor is very homey with plantains and plants hanging all around as the main decor of the place. They have seating on two levels. We sat on the top level. Their menu is limited and to the point. I ordered their coconut arepas stuffed with crabs as an appetizer, fried pork chops and my friend ordered their garlic shrimp both came with yellow rice. I did not like the taste of the crab, it was stewed and frankly didn't taste like crab meat at all to me. The arepa itself was tasty. I enjoyed my pork chops though they were on the small side. My friend did not enjoy his garlic shrimp, it was lacking flavor. Overall, the experience was much to be desired and the food was overpriced. I forgot to mention they gave us a soup before our meals, I believe it was green plantain, that was very tasty.
Tiffy L — Google review
Our visit to La Casita Blanca was excellent! They provide plátano soup and bacalao for the table. They had a variety of aguas frescas to try. We had the tamarindo and guava aguas fresca which were good. They bring out a large menu for you to select your plate. Each plate offers sides such as rice and beans, rice with pigeon peas, or tostones. We had the aguacate relleno de camarones al ajillo with rice and beans and bistec empanado (not pictured). The food came out fast and was delicious. If you like spicy they have a house made hot sauce that was a good pairing with the food and is available to buy. We got there around 1 pm and waited a little bit but they do their best to keep the line moving. The service was excellent with the server checking in with us regularly. The atmosphere was great you really felt like you were at someone’s home eating authentic Puerto Rican food. There is street parking but there are a lot of car mechanic businesses around the restaurant and we had to park a few blocks down. Another option would be getting dropped off by uber/lyft, which we saw a lot of peoplw do. We will definitely be back!

Ceviche House Orlando is a popular Peruvian restaurant known for its authentic cuisine and top-notch customer service. If you're in the mood for Latin fusion, this well-regarded spot will surely satisfy your seafood cravings. Located in a vibrant area, it offers a unique dining experience that combines delicious food with a lively atmosphere. Whether you're looking to enjoy traditional Peruvian dishes or simply craving some fresh ceviche, Ceviche House Orlando is the place to be.
This restaurant is a bit too cold for me, but we were very satisfied with their food. I had the grilled salmon with avocado and a salad. The salmon was perfectly cooked. The put two sauces on the table. The green sauce was our favorite. My daughter has the whole fried fish. She enjoyed every piece of it. We definitely recommend this restaurant. The restaurant has good service.

I would say they are offering good Ceviche than most places in San Juan. For me if you want to call yourself a Ceviche House you have to be better than this. I had better. Service was good food was quick but terrible mojito. Free parking on front but pretty tricky to park at front of the restaurant.

It was my final hour on the island... I’d enjoyed fresh ceviche all over Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 and because all that I ate tasted delicious, I almost went straight to the airport. I’m so glad that I didn’t because doing so would have been a huge mistake. Who knew that this little hole in the wall would serve me the best ceviche I’ve ever had. I wasn’t even really hungry, yet I ended up with an empty plate before getting on my flight! The yucca was sweeter than I’ve ever experienced and the dish was one of the highlights of my entire trip. Thank you!
Pazi D — Google review
Food was good but staff was a bit disorganized. Overall it felt like a local restaurant and looked like it was a little outdated. Was initially hesitant about getting ceviche but was glad we did. Portions are a good size and it was one of the better ceviche I had outside of Peru. As for the paella, it was good but would give it a 4 out of 5. The size for $40 (meant to be shared by two people) was smaller than I was expecting. Overall def a good place to go if you want ceviche or to find a non touristy restaurant in a somewhat touristy location. Oh and parking is very limited and hard to find street parking. Not sure if you can park across the street at the supermarket but was our back up plan.

Great Peruvian food! My husband family is from Peru, and we love supporting Peruvian restaurants wherever we travel. An Uber driver we had said this was her favorite ceviche on the island. It great quality fish, with a huge portion (we got the small order) and we also ordered the chaufa which could easily feed 3/4 people, not the 2 they recommend. Deaverdura is a laid-back restaurant located in Old San Juan, offering traditional Caribbean cuisine in a vibrant setting. The popular eatery is known for its flavorful dishes such as roasted pork with rice and beans, accompanied by cilantro-lime chimichurri sauce. Additionally, patrons can enjoy white-rum-based cocktails mixed with various fruit juices. The casual spot boasts a short menu featuring local favorites like empanadas, tostones, and homemade sausage.
Food was incredible! Best food we had on the island. and we could see the food being made fresh! Service was quick for us because we went between 1-2 PM but I can tell that it is a busy place to try to eat. Limited menu which is good because it means the food is made authentic and better service.

Deaverdura is such a gem in Old San Juan! The food is full of authentic Puerto Rican flavor and feels homemade with love. We tried a mix of everything—fried plantains, sausages, and mofongo—and it was all delicious. Portions are generous and perfect for sharing with family or friends. The restaurant itself has a cozy, colorful vibe that makes you feel right at home. Service was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. The food was amazing. Everything was spot on full of flavor. It’s a small space so wait times can be brutal especially if you’re having to wait outside in the heat BUT it is totally worth the wait. The sampler platter alone was enough for three people to eat and be full.

We got the sample platter! Fed theee of us easily! Loved the plantains rice pork lil sausages, and corn sticks. Ate blood sausage for the first time was OK but not my fav. Love the atmosphere and the food was delicious. The bathrooms were a little wonky one had a sink one didn’t and you had to get paper towels outside.

This place has great food. We tried the same dishes in other places, and this is the best tasting. We got the Puerto Rican sampler and LOVED IT. It gets busy here so be patient or come back and try another day. Night times are difficult to get in so don’t set yourself up for disappointments if you’re impatient. Not sure why some reviews say it’s not authentic, can’t get more authentic than this, my grandma would make all this. 🤷🏻‍♂️ And it’s like a home cooked meal.
Richard S — Google review
Worth the wait! We went twice, and both times there was a line out the door—and for good reason. The place isn’t fancy, but the atmosphere is lively and full of local charm. The first time, we ordered the sampler and got a taste of everything: pork, rice, morcillas, tostones—it was all delicious. A true local gem we were happy to return to.
Margarita S — Google review
A quick Google search for Puerto Rican food within walking distance from Castillo del Morro lead us to Deaverdura. We also ended up with the sampler as other reviewers suggested. Thought it was good value and most of the items were good. The blood sausage …. It tasted exactly like the Korean version called sundae. The shredded pork, fried plantains/rice, and mini empanadas were good. The rest seemed a bit bland. Pineapple and tamarind juice hit the spot after walking in the humid but quaint cobblestone streets of old San Juan. Servers were nice but didn’t get much attention after the food arrived.

When you arrive there is a sign outside the restaurant telling you to wait for service. This can be anywhere from 10-30 minutes. Servers spend time with customers and provide good service and to do that they manage the amount of people coming in. Be respectful and wait for them to invite you in. The food was incredible. I got a coconut with rum as my drink and my wife got passion fruit juice. We got the chicken with garlic, white rice, and beans as well as the arroz con gandules and pernil. As is customary in Puerto Rico, each of our plates came with salad dressed with olive oil and vinegar. I wish we had more people with us so we could have ordered the appetizer sampler. This was easily one of the best meals we had in Viejo San Juan. This is a local spot where most of the customers were Boricua.

Prime Time is a casual and budget-friendly spot that offers daily specials, including the popular Taco Tuesday deal of 2 tacos for $5. The drinks are described as both inexpensive and potent, making it an ideal stop before hitting the club or party scene. It's also recommended for a laid-back evening out with friends or a significant other. Despite its unassuming appearance, the food receives high praise, particularly the shrimp tacos and lemon pepper wings.
It’s a hole in the wall, but the food was really good, my friend and I both ordered wings and their lemon pepper style was probably the best I’ve ever had. Wasn’t really busy however around 11:30 it started to pick up. Beer was cheap and cold and waitress was nice. Would definitely come here again.

Food is very affordable. Happy hour all day with $4 margaritas and $4 long island ice tea. Very fun place to visit. We enjoyed ourselves at lunch we returned for dinner. The Condado cheese steak is excellent.

Great for a cheap good time. It is dive-ish, but you can't ball out every night😝. Daily specials, taco Tuesday, (2 tacos for 5$) is awesome for a low price experience and the drinks are cheap and strong. This is a great place to go before heading to the club, party, etc. Or just a great place to get drunk with your husband! Our opinion, the shrimp tacos were the best!

This place made us feel like home and the staff ended up becoming a friend. My entire group agreed that we could eat here at least once in our 7 day trip. We ended up going almost everyday for lunch or a late night treat.Mary the hostess was amazing and made our entire trip enjoyable by keeping us in the know and providing helpful directions about the island.

Cool place to have a great time with friends. They have karaoke night as well. This place is also wheelchair accessible, but the ramp is a little hard to get in. Once you're inside the place has enough space to move around. The restroom are also accessible for wheelchairs. I had a great time the last I was here.

Great service, friendly and helpful. Had the shrimp tacos and they were great. Crisp flour shell rolled in parmesan cheese and shrimp in every bite. Wings were also good. Cooked nice and crisp but not dry.

Had a horrible experience here. Just came in to eat, drink and watch college basketball as it is March Madness. Would have stayed for three or fours to drink and watch games, but ended up staying an hour and a half. The waitress was truly terrible and inattentive and it wasn't even busy. She came by 3 times in that time period-once to take our order, once to bring the food, once to bring our bill. She walked by several times seeing us finished with our food and seeing our drinks empty. We had to call her over to get anything. The food was also less than average. Wasn't expecting a lot since it's a touristy sports bar but our dry and overcooked. Honestly, I never complain but I wanted to here because I actually would have liked to stay a long while but the service was so terrible I had to go. I asked the waitress for the manager when she brought the bill and all she said was "there's not one." Ok. Honestly, go anywhere else.

Genesis is a delightful culinary gem that offers an authentic taste of the Caribbean. After a two-hour drive, stepping into this vibrant spot felt like a breath of fresh air. The atmosphere buzzes with friendly staff who are both hilarious and welcoming, making you feel right at home. While the drinks were expertly crafted—especially the passion fruit mojito that stands out as one of the best around—the food truly steals the show.
This is an outstanding authentic restaurant in Viejo San Juan. It is family owned and the staff are all excellent. They will make great menu recommendations. We all absolutely loved the food and service here. You can order in English or Spanish no problem. Their food is delicious and it is a great place to step into and have a drink to cool off. It is easy to find using Google Maps.

The food was good, the prices decent, and clean bathrooms. We would come back again. I'd order the mofongo churrasco again (steam mofongo). Just note that the mofongo is made of sweet plantains -- instead of the regular green plantains so it's very sweet. I found it delicious but it's not for everyone. Kids lived their Fettuccine Alfredo and Mozzarella Sticks. The piña colada was DELICIOUS! Skip out on the stuffed tostones de jueyes (crab tostones) because they were too salty. Also skip the Tembleque, try the 3s Leches instead. The chillo was not fresh but still tasted good.

We decided to try some of their seafood, a shrimp mofongo dish and a lobster dish with garlic. The shrimp had a mound of plantains and other stuff, which was really good. The shrimp was plump and juicy. There could have been a couple more shrimp on the dish, though. Their beans and rice is an excellent mix, you've got to try it. The garlic lobster was amazing; lots of lobster, and it was cooked well with a great sauce. Well decorated interior with about 10 tables or so, kind of a small place. Service was decent. We had a nice visit.

Family owned spot that makes you feel at home. Small and simple but amazing at the same time. Tried the alcapurria for the first time. So authentic and good. Happy hour margaritas at two for $12…and in old San Juan is a steal!

Wow!!! Fantastic food! Friendly attentive service. This is a must!! My hubby got the Mufongo con pollo and I did the Arroz con pollo. We also added a couple pina coladas (with rum of course) what an amazing meal. We could not finish all the food!

Service was good. Food was ok. My sweet plantains were dry. Chicken and rice soup in a normal size bowl for $19 was a lot. We were automatically charged a 22% gratuity. We've been to PR a few times and never had that show up automatically at any restaurant.
Portia H — Google review
The laminated menus need to be wiped clean a few times a day… both our menus were sticky and dirty. So that set the stage. The service is so so. The food presentation is decent. Our crab tostones were nicely spiced. The bed of limp lettuce was not appealing. The rice and beans were OK. I could detect anything special. Over all a decent spot to have a bite. Oh BTW, no paper tissue in the bathrooms…could use a deep clean as well.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot to relax after exploring the area.
Great place to get your wing craving satisfied! It was all very good and fresh. The Infernal wing sauce is just a spicier buffalo but has excellent flavor. Also ordered a coconut margarita that was delicious, and actually had a good pour of tequila. Highly recommend!

I was the first to enter the bar and order and the last to receive my drink. Waitress said she forgot and it was her mistake. Either way, she didn't apologize or anything. I ended up just leaving and never got a drink.

Our family love going here everytime we are in San Juan. Servers are really attentive and ask us if we need anything from time to time. For the wings we always order the garlic parmesan but I wish I can taste MORE of the flavor the garlic parmesan but I think the seasoning or the marinate they use for the wings can be taste more than the flavor of garlic parmesan.

Service was on point, atmosphere was great and most importantly FOOD was wonderful. This place was awesome. I got the Guava Chipotle boneless wings. They were MASSIVE lol not like what I'm use to back home with the rinky dinky tiny wings. Brought back on board to chow down on later. Husband got the sliders. And we split mushroom fries. Great job yall on making everyone that came in your restaurant feel welcomed. If i come back to the PR will def be visitng again ❤️

The Place is a great spot to escape the heat and enjoy a wide selection of cold beers, frozen drinks, and a misting system. Their specialties include comfort food like hamburgers, pizza, and tacos that are highly recommended. The place offers amazing service and validates parking across the street. With a huge beer selection and options to build your own burger at affordable prices, it's an enjoyable experience for all.

Sarah L — Google review
I ordered a burger to go — just the burger, no fries or drink — for $19. It was supposed to come with various toppings. The place was completely empty, yet there were 7 waitresses standing around gossiping and doing absolutely nothing. I waited 20 minutes, came back to pick up the order, then walked about 12 minutes to the beach — only to discover they gave me a plain, dry burger with none of the toppings I paid for. I called them to ask what happened, and the girl on the phone couldn’t care less. No apology, just a casual, “Weeelll, you can come back.” So I did, which was incredibly frustrating because I was hungry. When I got there, she didn’t even say sorry. She just threw the corrected order at me — cold, obviously, because it had been sitting out the entire time I walked back and forth. I told her it was cold, and instead of owning the mistake, she started arguing with me. Unbelievable. I walked out. I have no idea why people like this work in customer service if they clearly hate the job. The arrogance is unreal. If you don’t want to ruin your day, avoid this place — and fast. The burger tasted okay, but it was absolutely not worth $19, especially with service this bad.

The Place always delivers the goods! Its a burger palace in Condado, low key and casual enough where you can walk in off the beach without feeling under-dressed, but at the same time so delicious that you feel that you’re having a much more upscale dining experience. I’m a bit confused by the “Local Food @“ business on Google Maps, and I’m often perplexed by their outages of certain (IPA) bottled beers, but those small inconveniences aside its always a pleasure to enjoy a meal here. Matt Rodgers knows this.

I had a very good veggie burger here. I will say it's amazing, but for $16 I wish it included some sort of fried potato side. Nonetheless the veggie burger was amazing and the medallas were cold

If you find yourself at San Juan's Luis Munoz Marin International Airport and craving a delicious meal, look no further than El Meson Sandwiches. Located on the second floor of the terminal near the check-in counters, this local gem offers a delightful array of sandwiches that capture the essence of Puerto Rican flavors. While the ambiance may feel slightly dated and parking can be tricky, especially with limited options nearby, the mouthwatering food more than compensates for these minor inconveniences.

El Mesón is a great spot for a quick and tasty meal! I had the tuna sandwich, and it was delicious—fresh and flavorful. The fries were also really good, crispy, and well-seasoned. The interior isn’t the nicest, as it feels a bit outdated, and parking is pretty limited, which can be a hassle. However, the quality of the food makes up for it. Overall, I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a solid, affordable meal in San Juan!

I had to send back like always my bocadillo. I asked for it to be on the grill and toasted and no! They served it cold. Its a disaster. You have to always check order because they never do sandwiches like you ask. And now more expensive and less meat...the coffee was warm and not hot. Now have to ask for extra hot! Really🙄

This is another El Meson Sandwich ubicated at Ave de Diego in Santurce. After a medical appointment with a doctor which offices are near El Meson, I was hungry and decided to eat there. As a matter of facts, whenever I assisted to Bellas Artes, at the end of the events my friends and I tried some sandwiches and fries there. Our experience with this Meson are very good. Nice employees, the sandwiches are well-prepared and hot, as are the fries. I always order the White House, and they make it very good. The place is clean, as are the bathrooms.

I’m honestly not sure why this location has such mixed reviews. This Puerto Rican fast food chain boasts a great menu for those looking for a quick bite and a near authentic take on some Puerto Rican classics. We arrived to a line snaking out the door, a hungry crowd thick with locals and sunburnt wanderers. It was a wait, sure—but a wait that whispered worth it. This place doesn’t fake the funk; it feeds you fast, feeds you well, and feeds you like you matter. El Meson is no white-linen establishment. It’s the McDonald’s of Puerto Rican flavor—but in the best possible way. Affordable, consistent, and honest. Sandwiches come stacked and proud, pressed to golden perfection. You get bread with backbone and fillings with soul. The staff? Smiling like they just saw an old friend. That sort of cheer isn’t trained—it’s real. And in a district teeming with overpriced ceviche and boutique cocktails with rosemary sprigs, El Meson stands as a refreshing rebellion. Come for a sandwich. Stay because you feel like you belong.

Nestled along Ponce de Leon Avenue, La Cueva del Chicken Inn is a cherished gem in San Juan that has been delighting locals and visitors alike since 1950. This iconic eatery, owned by the family of the late Raul Julia, boasts a unique cave-like ambiance that adds to its charm. Known for serving some of the best pizza on the island, each bite is bursting with flavor.

The food tasted pretty good--roasted chicken, tostadas--and the place was ok. Service was slow which may have been due to the time of day. The main issue was that my husband left his fairly expensive cane from Germany. He has mild dementia, and forgetfulness can be an issue. Less than 24 hours later, we returned and were informed no cane was found. Really? This reflects either poor management or greedy clientele. We won't be back.

Dusty lamps, dark and muggy. They have been there for 50 years and they probably run more on nostalgia than on actual results. We had a chorizo pizza, it was ok but the sauce was bland, no taste at all. Crust ok and crunchy on the outside, size a bit small for the price, and they sliced it uneven. Then the bistec rebosado had no seasoning at all, bland and the little taste ir had was of dirty oil. The mofongo was bland too, well done, but no salt on it, the caldo saved it and gave it some flavor. The chicken my son ordered was so overcooked and dry, he could not swallow it. He had to go to the bathroom and spit it. Service was super slow, at least they did not charge us for the chicken. If I had to go again, I would have pizza and mofongo with caldo. Nothing else.

Awesome food and fantastic service. Its made to look like your in a cave, theres a darker room inside the larger area. The place is very popular and has ample parking in the back. Will be going back to try more from the menu. Our waiter told me, the family of Raul Julia are the owners.

Terrible food, poor service, bad acoustics. This place may have been good at some point years ago but I cannot believe the good reviews! I ordered a filet cost $31.00 and was given an overcooked dry tough piece of met which was not a filet. My dinner companion did not finish her filet because it was dry. Sides were unedible, appetizers tasteless. The best thing was the bottled Medalla beer.

A San Juan Icon, La Cueva del Chicken Inn is more than just a restaurant; it's a beloved San Juan institution steeped in history and warmth. It's the perfect spot for families after a thrilling Sunday soccer game, offering a welcoming vibe for all. Beyond the delicious food, their impressive cocktail bar crafts superb drinks, complemented by excellent service. Adding to its rich tapestry, our beloved Raul Juliá, the famous actor known for his exceptional talent and deep philanthropic work and advocacy for social causes, used to frequent this very spot as a child, permeating the place with cherished memories and profound meaning. Spanish restaurant
Nestled in the charming streets of Old San Juan, Rosa de Triana is a culinary gem that offers an unforgettable dining experience. Just steps away from the stunning Hotel El Convento and across from the historic San Juan Cathedral, this restaurant boasts a picturesque setting with views of a lovely park adorned with unique sculptures. While it may be on the pricier side, patrons rave about its exquisite seafood platter featuring fresh octopus, mahi-mahi, salmon, and shrimp—each bite bursting with flavor.
I did not venture into this restaurant location as of yet. I write that because I look forward to giving them a visit on my next visit to Old San Juan area in PR. This is marked as a must stop restaurant for sure. So stay tune for that follow up. As from the photos posted, I can see the old fashion decor that plays a major historical part of Old San Juan. It's one reason why I want to visit. Reading more into this restaurant, I found information that it was built back in 1523, and one of the early structures built in Old San Juan. It was the Governor's Center, it then became the first City Hall and the cellar was a jail holding facility. My second reason for a visit is because from the comments posted, they seem to make a very good Seafood Paelle and I'm a fan of that dish. They also mentioned the sangria are good drinks to. My last reason why I want to visit is because they seem to do some dances/performances with live music. Some comments mentioned about high end prices but when you get a tasty meal, good drinks and entertainment all in one location. I write, you get what you're paying for. Who wouldn't want to enjoy a good food, drinks and experience a live music and dance performance as well? I was able to make a quick stop here for some really good Mojito's drink, I do recommend those. The location is very nice, you have a few major historical landmark around them and close by. One being Hotel El Convento is across the street and another being Catedral Basilica Menor de San Juan Bautista that just had a major makeover. There's a small park called Plaza de la Catedral to make a stop right across the street to just sit and enjoy your drink, the scenic views and watch people walking by just like I did. If you enjoyed my review, then please hit like to it.

Incredible everything! One of the pricier places to eat in Old San Juan, but worth every penny. Very easy to get to in the Northwest part of OSJ. Located on a beautiful, small park which features a sculpture commissioned by Puerto Rico's only female governor and across from San Juan Cathedral. The stunning, large Convent Hotel is across the street. Tried the seafood platter with octopus, mahi mahi, salmon and shrimp and was very satisfied. Fresh sangria was delicious. Best virgin pina colada I've had in my life and I try one everywhere! Had so much coconut in it, happy I didn't get the standard mix hotels serve. Waiter was prompt, the food was fresh and authentic. Waiter gave us 3 fun places he goes to for great music, dancing and drinks. Decor is tastefully done and restaurant is clean. You can sit outside within the restaurant thanks to an overhang above. Menu said the building was constructed in 1593 or so, and once served as city hall. Highly recommended for quality staff, food and drink.
John F — Google review
I googled best restaurants while my boyfriend and I were walking around OSJ, and this place popped up. It’s a little hidden, but is so romantic!! We sat outside in the courtyard for dinner, then went inside to enjoy the live music & Flamenco dancing (Saturday). The building is the first jail, which was built in the 1500s & it is filled with authentic Spanish decor. Great place to experience the original influences of San Juan. We had the shrimp tostones & the steak chickpea appetizers - which were enough to make us full! But we just had to have the Seafood Paella, and it was amazing!! The paella is big enough to share amongst 4 & is filled with an assortment of seafood - a must get. The service was good and the sangria kept us occupied while we waited on the paella to be freshly prepared.

My husband and I stopped by here in the afternoon on our way out of Old San Juan and we are so glad that we did! We enjoyed tapas and cocktails, both were amazing! Gallo Negro is a popular neighbourhood bar in Puerto Rico that serves up delicious brunch classics as well as innovative cuisine and great drinks. This trendy spot is perfect for visitors looking for something fun and unique to do on their island vacation.
Where do I even start? This place was incredible. I wish that they would open one back home so I could come here all the time. It is so incredibly cute inside, feels very vintage but cozy. Our waitress, Carrie, was so so amazing. She asked about our "flavor profiles" to help us decide on what cocktails to try, and even had the bartenders make something specifically for us. Not a single drink disappointed. We got 4 items off of the menu and every single one was incredible. I don't think you can go wrong with anything here. The chef clearly knows what she's doing. I really can't review this place high enough, it was everything I want in a restaurant/bar and then some! If you are in San Juan absolutely make this a priority.

When you are in a restaurant, you eventually understand that waiters are not happy with your arrival, because they already have a lot of work, and then you and the children. And this unwelcoming attitude towards you is read in each of their actions. Service can not be called good, it's disgusting. Already after we made the order, our friends joined us. The waiters did not pay attention. We had to go and on our own to take the menu on the counter. For 15 minutes, nobody came to order. We approached the bar to make an order - the waiter in a unwelcoming tone explained that she is busy - "Sit down, I'll come to you." she commanded. But she did not found the opportunity to do this, although I counted only 4-5 tables with guests for 2 waiters. In the restaurant's menu there is Margarita pizza for 6.90 or 9.90 because of different sizes. I chose a big Margarita and asked to add ham. The result in the account is 25 euros and some absolutely different pizza, not Margarita. The waiter insistently, arrogantly and even rudely explained to me that this is my problem, that I did not understood menu and could not explain to her what pizza I want. I thought then how much work of managers, cooks, investors, crossed out two absolutely incompetent, lazy and rude waitresses, Tamara and Veronica - who, of course, should not work at any restaurant at all.
