Island
San Juan Island, accessible by ferry, is home to alpacas and harbor seals. Visitors can enjoy dining, museums, and antique shops on the island. The north end of San Juan Island was occupied by the British military during the Pig War and is part of the San Juan Island National Historical Park. Hiking trails around Bell Point and Young Hill offer scenic views of wildflower meadows and oak trees contrasting with the typical Pacific Northwest forests. The island also offers camping opportunities for nature enthusiasts.
With it’s stunning views, charming towns, and outdoor adventures like kayaking and whale watching its a perfect Pacific Northwest getaway!
Jolene B — Google review
I would probably have had a better experience if I had slept within the last 32 hours. Quite a bit of uphill walking. Getting off/waiting for the ferry wasn’t too enjoyable, but the food made it worth it.
Henri M — Google review
Worst experience of my life! Got stuck in the island for hours, ferries got delayed , the authorities had no answers when we can leave. They said rescue ferry would come at midnight. Still waiting, it’s past 12 AM. Just frustrated, disappointed and tired!!! Please don’t visit this place if you are not staying overnight.
Nishat J — Google review
San Juan has its hidden gems outside of the popular sites that it is known for at Friday Harbour. It's landscape is breathtaking and the ocean views all around the island is beautiful. The open land, the homes, the culture here is amazing. The ferry ride itself was a treat. Definitely a must see if you're visiting Washington state.
Michael ( — Google review
I would visit San Juan island once a week for 4.5 years. See the seasons changing, the early morning ferry ride , the small local businesses, all are such a" fresh breathe of air " compared to the traffic infested, Seattle and it's terrible decisions by the city council members to ruin our streets, by taken out lanes , everywhere ! Turning a perfectly well Designed 4 lane road into a 2 lane road, is by far, the dumbest , most wasteful use of taxpayer resources , I've ever seen. I lived in Seattle my entire life ! To expand a sidewalk wider , so it absorbs a lane and or losing street parking or adding a bike lane , where it's not needed. Is taking away everything my tax dollars have been paying into for decades. Bicyclist can ride in lane, on any road except the interste freeways . Bike lanes are not needed. Sidewalks that are as wide or wider than vehicle lanes are not helping the steady flow of traffic, especially in a city that has a continues population growth year after year. I am expecting a huge refund for all my years of tax paying funds, that went to WDOT. Seattle citizens , now have ½ the amount of streets they used to have. That's is the best thing about the San yaun islands.....no Seattle city counsel board ruining people's commuting life. Thank you San yaun islands...please don't change for the worst

A must visit if you are in Washington. These islands have everything for your weekend getaway . Starting from lighthouses, farmers market, trails and great seafood restaurants. To top it , they have a cute alpaca farm which is a must visit for all . Highly recommend this and make use of the amazing ferry options you have from Anacortes.
Gaurav H — Google review
So much to explore here! The round trip ferry from Anacortes to Friday harbor takes about 3 hours today ! So i suggest if you plan to visit this Island and see the scenic wonders here . Make sure you have two days or you leave Seattle city super duper early in the morning . Also the ferry to Friday here is kinda pricey if driving a car . For a suv it is like 55 dollars or so. For per grown up passenger, it is 16 dollars . Make sure you get the most of your trip !
Justin S — Google review
Take a full day to enjoy this place. Ferry over on foot or by vehicle. Enjoy all the food and events on the island. Don't miss the last ferry out unless you planned to stay the night on one of their very nice hotels.

Island
Orcas Island, part of the San Juan archipelago, is a larger and more secluded island than its neighbor, San Juan Island. The lack of an incorporated town adds to its remote and relaxing feel. The village of Eastsound offers charming shops, galleries, cafes, and restaurants for visitors to enjoy. A must-see attraction is the breathtaking panoramic view from the 2,409-foot peak of Mt. Constitution in Moran State Park.
Definitely make ferry reservations. The boat ride is half the fun! Go up Mt Constitution on a clear day with a picnic, see some old growth forest and breathe clean air.
Gustav R — Google review
Something you definitely want to experience. Book ferry tickets ahead of time, smooth process and spend the day on the island. Eastsound shops and cafes are great for tourist shopping, visit and kayak at Moran State park and make your way up to Mount Constitution for some of the best views of the region

Absolutely beautiful Island picture perfect scenes all around the island. The water and spots are clear and blue and green colors of the water. Makes for an excellent relaxation spot. People on the island are very friendly

Loved our visit to Orcas Island. There is an abundance of outdoor activities available to access. We found a park that had a beautiful lake at which it was easy to launch kayaks. A lot of people bike and hike. The downtown offers a number of local stores. We particularly liked the bookstore that welcomed our dog. One of the clerks, maybe the owner, even gave her a homemade treat. It is truly a gorgeous place.
Mary S — Google review
Pretty seascapes but a triumph of privilege: it is white, old, a bit dull. We came mid September and everything is already closed for the season. We drove around to explore the island but everything seems to be on private land at the end of a private road.

Absolutely amazing and quite breathtaking. We visited the farmers market for some great food and enjoyed walking through all the shops. There are lots of beautiful things to see, get ready to take lots of pictures. There is a church with a beautiful garden, I can remember the name of the church. You can see the garden from the road. Be sure to stop in for a visit.

Island
Stuart Island is a small island that can be reached by boat and is known for activities like canoeing, kayaking, and inland hiking trails. The island offers limited dock space but provides mooring balls and dinghy access to the dock. Visitors can explore the one-room schoolhouse and shop at the Treasure Chest for souvenirs like Stuart Island t-shirts. Diving enthusiasts praise the spectacular underwater experience with excellent visibility and occasional Orca sightings near the North end of the island.
Spectacular. We were fortunate to enjoy wonderful summer weather while anchoring in Reid Harbor. Taking a dingy ride around the island we were greeted by wildlife. Our brief hike allowed us to get a peek-a-boo view of Prevost Harbor. There were tent campers returning for an afternoon kayak. Wonderful visit. Stuart island is a beautiful place to visit.

Always a relaxing visit, very special place. Really enjoyed the wild Mouflon sheep we saw when hiking to the lighthouse this time!
Mike S — Google review
My family had a cabin there for years. Ours was very rustic. Some places do have fancy things like running water and electricity and I have been told someone has a tennis court. There is a lot of hiking and I always loved the tide pools.
Leslie H — Google review
I've never been ashore on Stuart Island, but being a cold water SCUBA Diver from California to Alaska and points in between. I'd have to say diving the wall on the North end of the Island is one of the most spectacular dives I've ever done. Visibility is awesome, and the pod of Orcas surrounding our boat just added to the experience.

Reid Hrb is my favorite spot to stay in San Juans. Quite, but lots to do if you like hiking around.

Nestled along the stunning coastline of San Juan Island, Lime Kiln Point State Park, affectionately known as Whale Watch Park, is a treasure trove for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. This picturesque day-use park features a historic lighthouse that serves as an ideal vantage point for land-based whale watching from May to September. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views while keeping an eye out for majestic orcas, humpback whales, and other marine life like harbor seals and sea lions.
A bit disappointed I didn’t see any orcas, but oh well—let it be! The scenery here is absolutely unbeatable, truly stunning. The trail to the beach is easy and enjoyable, making it a great spot for a relaxing walk. Still worth the visit!
Shellie S — Google review
Beautiful area with good hiking and a great interpretive center with lovely information and kind staff. There isn’t much parking here, but it rotates out pretty easily. This is a great starting point to bike down to cattle point or take a break from a ride originating at cattle point.
Heather A — Google review
Great place to watch a sunset! Need to buy a discovery pass for $10 so bring cash. There is a self pay station. Locals say this is the best place on the island for whale watching: we only saw a sea lion. Beautiful view is the expanse of the Sound!
Ron E — Google review
Beautiful and tranquil setting if visiting Friday Harbor. Take the time to head out and see the countryside and when you’ll enjoy the views on the way to this picturesque park. There are nice waterfront trails, adequate parking and the views of the wildlife and water is stunning.
John W — Google review
The only downside for me was the bathrooms, I really wish there had been plumbing for the toilets. We didn’t see any orcas, but the season just started so maybe they’re just being shy. Also the lighthouse was closed because someone broke their ankle and the staff was helping out, but what can you do. I like that there were multiple trail loops to walk while my husband sat on the rocks with binoculars, he did end up spotting a minke whale, so that’s something! Seemed like a great place for families, lots of parking, plenty of picnic tables, cute gift shop, snack stand, and lots of informational stands to read wildlife facts.
Anastasia A — Google review
Cute little park with a short hike to the lighthouse. There is a fee for a tour of the building. The views are spectacular, and the little wilderness you walk through is so pretty with old trees and magical glades buzzing with dragonflies. Gift shops, restrooms all the things are there. They are composting toilets so if you're not for that thing, go pee before you leave your accommodations.
Stephanie J — Google review
Very cool light house you can go up. There’s lots of rocks to climb on the waterfront. Bring your discover pass.
Richie G — Google review
Pretty site, informative gift shop, good parking lot, composting restrooms, nice trails to the water to watch for whales. Picnic tables & informational signage at the waters edge.

Sucia Island, located in the San Juan Islands, is a picturesque destination known for its unique shape and an array of hiking trails. It is considered one of the greatest boating destinations in the world, offering miles of shoreline and sea caves to explore. As the largest of the three outer San Juan Islands, Sucia Island provides various options for visitors, including remote beaches and incredible sea life.
Fossil Bay, Echo Bay, Shallow Bay, Snoring Bay, Ewing Cove, Fox Cove — something for every experienced boater, whether you want a social dock atmosphere, a secluded anchorage or something in between. It gets busy in boating season, but distance from any services keeps it from being overrun. Many well-maintained hiking trails, spectacular views at every turn, interpretive and directional signage tell the human and geological story (and you might even spot a fossil yourself), clean/stocked pit toilets. Fantastic kayaking along water-carved sandstone bluffs. Watch for herons, seals, otters and even occasional cavorting orcas in the strait between Sucia and Matia Islands.
Saggio R — Google review
Wonderful hiking area with many trails and beautiful beaches. Good anchorage and easy access to the beach. Amazing site for whale watching and bird viewing.

Park
San Juan County Park is a popular island park known for its camping and boating opportunities, as well as its picturesque beaches, picnic areas, and stunning views of the straits. The park features a beautiful campground with 20 tent pitches, flush toilets, and picnic tables, all situated along the scenic western shoreline.
Loved our experience at this campground! The check in process is simple and the rangers were helpful in making sure we knew where the beach access and walking trails are. We camped in August and there was a burn ban so only propane stoves were allowed. We didn't know that until we arrived with our firewood...so next time, I would call the campground to see if fires are allowed. We reserved campsite 6 and 9 for our group and they were close to each other and they both had great views. Campsite 7 would be great if you want shade. Sunsets are perfect because it’s facing West. My sunset photo is from the overlook area at the campground. The campground had so many blackberry bushes so we would eat them all the time. There is a beach area, loading dock to launch kayaks, and fun walking trails along the cliffs. BUT our favorite part was that we saw orcas from the campground! Right when we arrived and were checking in, we looked out and saw orcas. So we kept watching them until we couldn't see them anymore and that was incredibly special. Reservation Process - When the campground reservations go on sale in the spring, the reservations fill up quickly. It was a bit tricky for me to reserve 2 sites for 2 nights each because I had to reserve each campsite separately which didn't guarantee that another site would be available the same nights. Ferry - the process to get your car reserved on the ferry is pretty simple so that made it great to get over to San Juan. We'd go camping here again!
Kamry W — Google review
This is a great, clean campsite. Incredible sunset views and if you're lucky you'll spot some whales too! Staff is helpful and friendly.
Brianna H — Google review
Beautiful campground with breathtaking views. It's not too big/crowded, perfect for peaceful getaway. There are plenty of birds in the area, and we spotted orcas twice. There is no shower at the campground, but bathrooms are very clean and well maintained. Would definitely come back.
Darya S — Google review

Piyusha G — Google review
Best campsite I've ever been to. And I've been to many parks in WA. Friendliest rangers. Clean restroom (there is no shower). Nice view. Plenty of parking spot. This park has everything. I'd definitely come back every year if I can
Minsu P — Google review
Absolutely incredible place to camp, especially if you hike/bike/kayak in! Staff was incredibly helpful and did regular drive throughs to make sure things were all good. The hiker/biker campsites, which are not reservable, get you the closest to the water. There is drinking water by the office, two different bathroom locations, and fire pits at every site. Head down the set of stairs right off the hiker/biker sites and you’ll find yourself at the most gorgeous little cove. The water is cold and crystal clear, great place to cool off so long as you can take the initial breathlessness. It was $11 for a biker site and you can pay with card
Waylon U — Google review
This is a beautiful small cove. There is watercraft rental here and lots of camping spaces. There is also parking for boats, etc. when we came in on a Sunday holiday weekend it was full understandably.
Heather A — Google review
A beautiful park to visit or camp at! Small Pox Bay is perfect for launching kayaks. We saw so much sea life. Jellyfish, harbor seals, orcas, river otter. I even heard a humpback whale song! There are flushing toilets & potable water. No showers. They sell firewood and ice.

Shaw Island is a serene and secluded destination in the San Juan Islands, offering a rural settlement, county park, and historical school. It's an ideal spot for swimming and kayaking with the warmest waters in the area. Surrounded by Lopez Island, Orcas Island, and San Juan Island, Shaw Island provides breathtaking views and a tranquil atmosphere. While there are limited amenities such as only one grocery store on the island, it offers a peaceful retreat for nature lovers.
Absolutely beautiful place, but be ready to pay very high prices, sky rocketed prices, for anything. There is nothing really on the island in terms of stores; one grocery store. It's mostly homes and views. I stayed with my sister who lives on the island. It's gorgeous! Must take a ferry to get there and there is a cost and long wait lines to get on. The ferries cancel at the last minute if it's not full, so beware if you need to get off the island because you could get stuck on it.

This is the definition of paradise. Breathtaking views anywhere you look. Quiet and peaceful, you can't ask for a better getaway.

Great little island. Awesome views and a very laid back feel. Make sure you bring everything you need. Only one small general store and no gas on island.
Matt T — Google review
Beautiful little island to visit, but unless you know someone there, you will have little to do, as there is not much there. We went to hunt, and the deer are plentiful, with little hunting pressure. They have a good diet, and seem very healthy.
Michael M — Google review
Shaw island is a great place to visit if you like nature. There is not much to do here there's only two parks and I couldn't find one of them. Looks like a great Island to retire to nice and quiet. There is only one store and it's kind of expensive so bring what you need if you're Road Trippin

The island boasts stunning tent pads with ocean vistas, picturesque pebble beaches, and ample drinking water for campers.
Lovely camping spot! The deer on the island are quite tame and come very close to camp. The raccoons police the compost bins. And the seals are visible off the shore with their pups! Sunsets are spectacular and the tide pools are an adventure unto themselves.

A small and charming island perfect for a weekend getaway. Plus, the locals are friendly! I love the way drivers greet each other here. Iceberg Point Trail is my favorite on the island. I highly recommend taking the route by the sea, the views are absolutely spectacular. We had our morning coffee at Isabel’s and lunch at Blue Heron. The food was decent, and the staff were incredibly friendly. If you’re planning to go camping, Site 21 at Odin Park is a great spot. There’s a tucked-away area for the tent, and the view is amazing.
Jia G — Google review
Ok, this was an amazing e-bike location! They call it the most “bike-able” island in the San Juan’s. Cars here really go slow and yield to bikers. Everyone waves as they go by! If your bikes can do 30 miles, bike from the ferry stop to Sharks reef and stop for coffee at Isabel’s in the village. Such an amazing day!
Ron E — Google review
Gorgeous island and very quiet. No fast food, no interstates, none of it. It's somewhat rustic, just big fields and farms, plenty of grass, trees, and nature. Many animals to see and tons of beautiful water views. Everyone on the island seems very friendly and 99% of the time, people will wave. Anyone that doesn't wave is probably not a local or maybe just having one of those days. I will definitely return someday to explore some more!

Reuben Tarte County Park is a hidden gem located on the northern side of an island, offering two small pebbly beaches separated by a rock bluff. The park provides stunning ocean and island views and receives fewer visitors compared to other parks in the area, making it an off-the-beaten-path destination. Visitors can enjoy a 360-degree view after a short walk to the top of the park.
Great little spot to get away and enjoy the quiet and nature, I enjoyed walking around on the little “island” between the two rock shores and looking out at the water. There was only one other person there when I was there so it almost felt like I have the whole place to myself. I wouldn’t say this is a must go to spot but if you have the free time it’s worth the stop (:

Great views from this Park. Steep hill leads down to the beach. Small parking lot at the bottom, so if you can get there early you can park below.

Tiny park in the middle of nowhere. Blustery day, hard rain, strong wind, cold... totally and completely worth it. Perfect pnw day. I bet in the summer this park is glorious! Love the san juans

Nice little detour. It was a steep drive to the place and parking was should be okay if there are only 2- 3 cars ..a short walk to the top gives 360 view which was pleasent. One side of the beach has pebbles and other side has sand so you can pick a side. The water seemed quite transparent and could see the bottom for a few feet from the shore.

Patos Island is a must-visit for experienced kayakers exploring the San Juan Islands. It's known as one of the most remote islands in the archipelago and offers stunning views of Canadian mountains on one side and the Cascades and Olympics on the other. The island is also home to a magnificent 19th-century lighthouse, adding to its allure.

What you will have when you get there is two islands, Patos and Little Patos, together they create a pretty cool little anchorage. Run your boat all the way to the north end and enter alongside the lighthouse, have your camera ready, its a picturesque place for sure. There are no docks so puttster up to the dinghy beach and drop anchor in front of the picnic area. Back in the woods 75 yards or so is a nice campground along the trail to the lighthouse.

Three day trip was the best. Loved packing up our touring kayaks and paddling through the islands. No whales but plenty of other wildlife. Had a great camp and the middle day was filled with paddling, hiking and beach time. Our guide Hannah was super impressive leading us on the water and keeping us well fed. The food was great with fresh fruit, snacks, appetizers and hearty meals to keep the group fueled. We loved every part of the trip and Outdoor Odysseys does a fantastic job. We’ll choose them again next time, for sure!

This was a fantastic day trip! From the moment we were picked up we were welcomed with our knowledgeable guide, Meg! She made us feel comfortable and safe. The scenery was breathtaking,. It’s such a beautiful area and the whole experience was enjoyable. It was the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable day on the water. Our lunch was beautifully presented and tasted great too. Our guide is passionate about her work and you can tell in the way she educates you and cheers you on. Thanks Meg and Outdoor Odysseys for a fun family day! We can’t wait to book a trip next summer.

An unforgettable San Juan Islands adventure with Eli! We just returned from the 3-day kayak tour with Outdoor Adventures in Washington State, and I can’t say enough great things—especially about our guide, Eli. From start to finish, he was the total package: knowledgeable, professional, and endlessly kind. We never once felt unsafe; Eli’s calm demeanor and confidence made it clear we were in great hands. Our 13-year-old son had the time of his life, and we were so grateful for Eli’s patience, humor, and encouragement. He struck the perfect balance of being a top-tier guide while also giving our family space to connect and enjoy each other. And can we talk about the food?! The website isn’t exaggerating—Eli is a phenomenal chef. Every meal was gourmet, the wine pairings were excellent, and we honestly felt like we were dining at a backcountry bistro. This trip gave us more than just a vacation—it gave our son a chance to see what hard work and leadership can look like up close. Eli’s great attitude never wavered, and he set an incredible example. It was a perfect summer escape and a truly unique family experience. We’re already planning our return. Don’t hesitate—book the trip, and ask for Eli!

Had an amazing 3 day trip with Sammy as our guide! She was knowledgeable, fun and an excellent cook! We had gluten, dairy and egg allergies in our group and she accommodated everyone with delicious options. She even made an amazing seaweed salad with freshly harvested kelp! I had been looking at this trip with Outdoor Odysseys for several years and am so glad we finally made it happen! I would highly recommend this trip to others and may even end up on another trip ourselves!

Just got back from a 3-day women’s sea kayaking & camp trip and had the best time! Our guides, Tiffany and Caroline, were incredible and truly made the trip extra special. Although challenging, we all always felt safe and encouraged on the water, and have a huge sense of accomplishment now as it was the first time for many of us in the group. Jones Island and everywhere else we stopped was gorgeous and so peaceful. Camping there was a breeze, and the fresh cooked meals were all delicious. Definitely felt pampered even being out in nature all weekend! They offered a range of excursions like the bioluminescence night paddle and a sunset paddle. It was great getting to know everyone, including our guides, around the picnic table and out on the water as well. Outdoor Odysseys made the process stress free and I’m already looking forward to another trip with them in the future!

I did a 3 day tour with my brother and childhood bestie and husband. This trip was incredible, beyond my imagination! Sammi was our guide and she did a phenomenal job keeping us all safe and informed as well as feeling pampered after our hours or paddling every day. The food was SO good. We even had two people with celiac and one with a dairy allergy and she navigated those challenges with grace. Any time she had questions she run her prep plan over with our food allergy peeps to make sure they felt safe. And no one got sick which was a huge win!!

Look no further than this outfitter for all your kayaking needs. This five star outfit leaves nothing to be desired. They have a vast array of standard trip options from day trips to longer camping excursions. We took a three day trip. The camping accommodations were great. We saw Orcas, seals, a mink, tons of birds, harbor porpoise and salmon jumping everywhere. This place is amazing! We had an amazing guide Eli. Incredibly knowledgeable about many aspects of the place. We had complete confidence in his guide abilities. He took great care with everything. So that's what you hope for but then the icing on the cake. Eli is a killer chef. He grew up in his families many restaurants and with ease whipped up amazing multi course meals with wine pairing at every beach we stopped at. So what are you waiting for? Get out there!

The four day trip was amazing. I was part of a group taking 13 teens across the islands. Our guides Benning and Shannon were experienced and knowledgeable about kayaking, camping, the Islands as well as the tide and currents. They kept us well fed, pointed out the wildlife in and out of the water. They made life for the adults so much easier by the way they enriched the teens experience. Shannan made a long paddle to an island seem shorter by challenging the kid with some thought puzzles and her stick dance is fantastic.

We went out on a multi day trip with Maddy and Noah and it was a great time! I learned so much about the history and wildlife of these special islands from both guides. The meals were nutritious, delicious and prepared with care. It was clear that a lot of thought went into providing us with an enjoyable and safe experience. Great vibes, very cool islands, and quite possibly the most beautiful sunrise I’ve ever experienced!

Just got back from an incredible 5 day trip with Noah. We were so impressed with the excellent planning with Cole and Noah and we appreciated their willingness to tailor the itinerary and menu to our group's desires and capabilities. Noah's chef skills and orienteering were top notch and we had a perfect vacation with them. And the boats and gear were in excellent shape. The sea kayak was easily the most elegant boat I've gotten to paddle and I've rented a lot of kayaks in my life. I couldn't recommend this crew more highly.

We did a half day tour to the Lime Kiln Lighthouse with Cooper as our guide. This tour was INCREDIBLE! Cooper was so knowledgeable and made sure we all knew how to comfortably and safely use the kayaks. We immediately saw harbor seals as we left the bay, which was amazing! Cooper had a perfect pace for us and we took a few breaks which made the whole trip so fun. We even saw orcas within the first 30 minutes; so breathtaking!! Overall, the views were immaculate, but Cooper’s knowledge of San Juan Islands history, marine life, and culture made the tour so amazing for us. We would come back to tour with Cooper any day!! We had a blast out there !!

This is the way. Did a two day trip and it was so excellent. Noah knew everything, cooked us up some incredible meals, found us the animals, and really read the room... going fast when necessary.. but also letting the masters of putzing totally putz when there were jellies to ponder and kingfishers to cheer on. We saw orcas before the boats even launched, porpoises, stellar sea lions, harbor seals, bald eagles, GBHs, harlequin ducks, marbled murrelets, Sitka deer, kingfishers, lions mane jellyfish, ochre sea stars, and perfect sunrises and sunsets. Bring nocs and just keep looking around

There is nothing that our guides Cooper and Shannon could have done differently that would have improved this trip; I had a fantastic time. Each row was meticulously planned and our guides made sure we were taking the safest, quickest routes, while also allowing the group to see the gorgeous scenery the San Juan’s have to offer. Cooper and Shannon were extremely personable and so excited to take us on our journey. Imagine trying to corral 20+ people and not having any problem doing so, Cooper and Shannon did without a wink of stress, even when conditions forced us to pack up camp at 4AM. GO WITH SAN JUAN KAYAK EXPEDITIONS!

Jones Island Marine State Park is a sprawling park that can be accessed by boat and offers primitive campsites, trails, and beaches. Visitors can join guided tours from Friday Harbor on San Juan Island to the launch site on the south side of San Juan Island. The park features beautiful beaches and a peaceful atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for camping and outdoor activities. It's recommended to visit during midweek to avoid crowds.
Spent a couple nights camping here as part of a larger kayaking trip and it was wonderful. Nice campsites (with tables), a meadow perfect for reading/napping, adequate toilet. Loved both kayaking around the island and hiking the island trail. Saw lots of wildlife including deer and harbor seals. Just beware of the raccoons!
Leilani O — Google review
The best time to come is during midweek before it starts getting busy. We came with a group of four for our first San Juan /shrimping expedition. Our campsite was right along the edge next to the beach, it overlooked the whole bay. You’ll need to get there early in order to dock your boat. We beached it on nights two and three because it got so crowded. Fire pits for your campfires and plenty of firewood from the forest and drift wood from the beach. Lots of seashells, but not many starfish or marine life. An occasional seal or sea otter swimming around. Lots of birds, eagles, a goldfinch, and a pileated woodpecker. The bathrooms were great, compostable toilets, nice tile floors, and windows to look out from. Nice and clean. A ranger even stopped by to clean them while we were there for four days. It’s a short hike from the bay to raccoon island campground. Loved the campground, would highly recommend to come during the week !

Absolutely stunning place to camp! If you can make it out there it is well worth it. Water taxis are available from Anacortes for about $70 per person. Or, you can paddle from Deer Harbor on Orcas island if you have a canoe or kayak. My friends did it in an inflatable canoe and it took them about 1.5 hours. And there's clean running water and bathrooms which is awesome because it's less stuff that you have to bring. There are trails all around the island and covered picnic areas as well. Really just a beautiful place to visit or stay. It is dog friendly, but they must be on leash at all times. The rangers are there almost every day and they will remind you. Also, you need to clean up after your pets. This is obvious to most people, but you'd be surprised. Be aware of the raccoons on the north side of the island. They will get into your stuff if it's not properly secured. And the deer on the south side are very bold. They'll hang out within like 10 feet of you and your camp. You are not supposed to feed them, but they are surprisingly comfortable with people. I'm guessing people don't follow that rule too well.
B F — Google review
Beautiful, peaceful, cute island. I only found one deer. So It's a scam when They say You will find deers. I was sad about it. The beach is amazing, nice rocks, crab and shells. Birds are cute. Sunset are the most beautiful thing in the San Juan Islands

Jones Island Marine Park a hidden gem of the San Juan Islands. Just a few moorings, a seasonal dock and limited anchorage help preserve the serenity of this magical place. Highly recommend for sea kayakers as the most premium campsites are reserved for those arriving in human powered craft. Five Stars.
David K — Google review
We've visited while sailing the San Juans the last three years in a row. Northern cove is the best spot to bring your boat. There is a dock where we tied our 40' catamaran last year, and there are a few mooring balls. Also room to anchor which we did this year. Mooring balls appear to be gone from the southern cove, which is open to wakes from passing boats. Short, beautiful walk across the island on a well maintained path with quiet, shady woodlands on the north side and sunny exposure on the south. We've seen the black-tailed deer in the grassy orchard area on the north side on two of three visits.

Located on Stuart Island, Turn Point Lighthouse is a must-visit historic site in a stunning setting. The lighthouse can be reached via a roughly 5-6 mile round trip walk from either Reid Harbor or Prevost Harbor at Stuart Island State Park. The walk is moderately easy and offers beautiful views, with the chance to spot orcas off the point. Along the way, hikers can explore three historic school houses, two of which are open for exploration.
Great day hike, but it is definitely a hike. Lots of climbing, though the path is wide and well groomed. The museum is worth visiting and there are lots of small souvenirs to buy. Don't miss stopping at the honor system. cart to buy Stuart Island caps and tshirts, on the road back to the county dock.
Jennifer R — Google review
This is a very worthwhile half day outing when boating the San Juans. You can save yourself a few miles and hours of walking by taking the dinghy and starting your walk at the county dock. Four miles due north of Roche Harbor is Stuart Island and home to Turn Point lighthouse, the farthest northwest point in the continental United States. You can anchor or tie up at the park dock in Prevost or Reid Harbors. For a much shorter walk, you can tie up (short term) at the county dock at the far north end of Prevost Harbor. The walk or bike ride up the gravel county road is about 1.5 miles. If you hike from either Marine Park dock, add another 1.5 miles (one way).

Cypress Island, the largest and least developed of the San Juan Islands, is a forested haven managed by the Department of Natural Resources. With limited ferry service and minimal crowds, it offers tranquility and natural beauty. The island features trails for hiking and old logging roads to explore. Camping opportunities abound, with beaches perfect for walking and kayaking. However, biking is not permitted on the island. Visitors can also enjoy activities such as deer hunting in the fall or fishing for Kelp Greenling.
It is a beautiful island but bikes are NOT allowed. Nice but hilly walking. Very quiet. A place to renew your spirit.

Dagster B — Google review
It's not serviced by ferries, and you definitely don't need to worry about crowds here. I've mainly come here in the Fall for deer hunting, and there's also a lake at the top of the main road coming from the dock on the Southeast corner of the Island. There are blinds for waterfowl hunting on that lake. We've always camped on the beach near the dock, and it pays to bring along some crab pots. Fishing for Kelp Greenling has been productive. Please respect the private properties.

Blind Island, located in Blind Bay near Orcas and Shaw Island Ferry terminals, is a small but magical destination that offers a true backcountry experience. Accessible by boat or kayak, this island is part of the Cascadia Marine Trail and features four campsites with picnic tables, fire rings, and a pit toilet. While there's no fresh water available on the island and persistent raccoons require campers to keep their food contained, the stunning views make it all worth it.
If you have access to a boat or kayak to get here, this place was magical! It is a SMALL island in Blind Bay and close to both Orcas and Shaw Island Ferry terminals. There are 4 campsites and it is part of the Cascadia Marine Trail. You can pay on the island at a self pay booth (First come, first served, No reservations.) All I can say is super worth it and hard to believe things like this still exist. We caught some excellent views! AM Sunrise over the Shaw Island Ferry Was Amazing from Camp Site 3 (East Side) and The South View to Blind Bay and Shaw Island is pretty awesome too. For Kayak Access on the East Side, it is a bit precarious, but if you are careful, you can avoid any rocks and damage. Sites 1,2 &4 have better access, but a longer haul for your gear to site 3, The last shot is the view of your perched site 3 spot. Very private and very breath taking. It may be busy in the summer, but in late September - Not at all!

The Whale Museum, located in Friday Harbor, is a must-visit destination for those interested in learning about whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem. The museum features a variety of exhibits showcasing artwork, artifacts, and educational programs focused on different kinds of whales that inhabit the area. One of its highlights is the skeleton of a young orca named Sooke (L-112), offering insight into the process of preparing whale skeletons for display.
Really well done exhibits with lots of information about the orcas and other whales, and very moving stories of some of the individual Southern Resident Killer Whales. Employees were kind and knowledgeable, and I attended a fantastic free talk at the museum by Brad Hanson about the status and health of the Southern Resident Killer Whale pods. If you’re planning a trip to San Juan Island the Whale Museum is whale worth a visit.

We went in on a Saturday. It wasn't crowded. Good collection in the display and an audio tour we can listen along as we move through the exhibits.

An interactive museum, well-equipped and educational. Excellent for taking small children, as it has a children's area. I liked that, despite having two floors, it has a wheelchair for guests to climb if needed. It's a quick tour; I highly recommend visiting.

Amazing! This is a must see whenever you are in Friday Harbor! Kids & adults, so much to learn, experience and explore. The gift shop has something for everyone 💙💚💙

My partner and I came here for our third anniversary. We both thought this was one of the best museums we’ve ever been to. The staff are clearly enthusiastic and well-informed about marine life. The exhibits upstairs are curated with extraordinary care for the animals that they depict. In particular, the interactive phone booth in the corner was clever. It was a wonderful way to hear the animals through a “filter” — the phone’s antiquated crackle and sense of distance — as a simulation, perhaps, of the underwater transmittance of that information. We had a lovely time. Thank you for having us!
Michelle C — Google review
The museum was very informative and have really cool exhibits. The woman working there was very nice and friendly as well. I also really liked the unique finds in the giftshop that had many items from local artists

GOOD AT EDUCATION BUT MUSEUM NEEDS AN UPGRADE The people here are passionate about educating humans on these wonderful creatures and what can be done to protect them. However, the museum itself looks like it's from 1992 with very little interactivity and, in this day and age, that's expected. I hope they receive funding to update, as this is the perfect spot to learn about whales and then go out and see them in their natural habitat. On the plus side, the gift shop was good with a nice range of products.
Linda B — Google review
Informative museum focused on conservation and respectful, careful study of and interaction with marine wildlife (especially whales). The exhibits are interesting, and there's lots to read about whales on the self-guided tour. Experience standing inside the ribcage of an orca, seeing a whale brain vs. a human brain, listening to whale calls, and other interesting and interactive displays. There's also a nice little gift shop and videos about whales. Well worth a visit.

Nature & Parks
Moran State Park is a vast natural area offering various activities for visitors. The park features campgrounds, five picturesque lakes, and numerous hiking trails suitable for all skill levels. One of the easier family-friendly hikes is the three-mile loop around Cascade Lake, which also offers opportunities for swimming and paddleboarding. For more adventurous hikers, there are thrilling cliff jumps at different points along the trail. Additionally, gentle hikes around Mountain Lake and Obstruction Pass provide scenic views and access to tide pools.
Moran is a beautiful, secluded park on the edge of the world. There is a variety of hiking options for all skill levels as well as boating activities. Worth the trip out for the day. The falls are beautiful and the hike (or drive) up to Mt. Constitution should not be skipped on a clear day.

Beautiful! Easy access to trails, amenities and a park. Just did the Cascade Lake trail, which is a lovely relatively easy less than 3 mile hike. The views are incredible and terrain varied from forest right down to the lake. There’s a snack shack there, bathrooms and picnic area. Definitely worth the $10 Parking/registration fee.
Judy S — Google review
We recently drove through Moran State Park to check it out for future visits, and it’s absolutely beautiful! The park sits right along the water and is incredibly lush and scenic. While there are no electrical hookups (which means we wouldn’t bring our RV), it’s perfect for tent camping or bringing our truck. We like to scope out parks ahead of time, and this one offers plenty of great sites to choose from, with four different camping areas. The park also has an awesome spot where you can rent kayaks and canoes, plus a designated swimming area with a beach. There are lots of amenities, and the restrooms were clean and well-kept throughout the park. A couple of tips: definitely book your campsite well in advance since this is a popular state park, and don’t forget to reserve your ferry tickets to Orcas Island both ways—especially on weekends, as the waits can be long. We’ll definitely be coming back here for camping and exploring more of what this amazing park has to offer!

A beautiful park with camping amenities. Also has a nice kayak rental place on Cascade lake. Check out Mount Constitution for a beautiful view spanning from Stanwood to Blaine and beyond on clearer days.

I’m an Orcas resident, since 2014 — Moran embodies my sense of Orcas. We humans are the visitors in this natural setting where deer, birds, and critters of many types THRIVE. PLEASE be EASY and QUIET without leaving garbage so that we humans do not harm or disrupt. If you’ve read this far I will share a locally known very special place. Just before entering the park from the north, Rosario Rd goes Right, West. If you take it, in ~1/2 mile Palisades Dr. goes off downhill to the left. to a parking lot on the edge of the park. Park there and follow the trail at the edge of the parking lot ~1/4 mile to the right to a magnificent lagoon. Many people hang there by a prominent rock dabbling their toes in the shallow water and swimming. Another 1/4 mile along the path takes one to the wonderful bridge that is visible from the main Cascade Lake picnic area across the lake. My pics taken from the lagoon in May 2025.

An absolute favorite for good ole woods on the lake camping! Campgrounds have so much variety in shade, waterfront options, RV hookups, walk-in, and group sites. Their bathrooms and showers are well maintained, and the public use areas are always kept up as well. They staff a little snack shack where you can find limited swim gear and accessories, plus impressive snacks, coffee, ice cream, candy, etc. The lake is a non-motorized boat lake, but they rent out water toys or bring your own float islands and paddleboards. Mt. Constitution is also found within the park and is a must visit! Views into Canada and over the WA coast are to die for on a clear day. Whether you're visiting just for the day or longer, Moran State Park is an oasis worth experiencing!
Dazzle R — Google review
Beautiful park with lots to do! You have the lake below Mount Constitution with rentals and food and a beach like atmosphere. You can go out Mount Constitution for trails or a big bike slog uphill. The views from the top of Mount Constitution are lovely. The whole area is great and it’s easy enough to ride an e-bike on the hills that go up and down.

Nestled along the picturesque Samish Bay, Larrabee State Park is a gem for outdoor enthusiasts seeking adventure and relaxation. This expansive park features a stunning beach, two serene freshwater lakes, and an extensive network of hiking and biking trails that wind through its scenic landscape. Just south of Bellingham, it offers an ideal escape to experience the beauty reminiscent of the San Juan Islands without venturing far from the mainland. Larrabee State Park is perfect for family outings or gatherings with friends.
Great experience! There's lot of parking area, discover pass is required. On either side of the road there's beach and trail. There's playground on the way to Beach for children and good picnic area with family.

Breathtaking views, peaceful trails, and the perfect mix of forest and beach. Every step feels like a reset for the mind. Larrabee State Park is one of those places you’ll want to come back to again and again. It’s Washington’s first state park, and it really has something for everyone—whether you’re looking to relax, explore, or camp. The park is very well maintained. Restrooms are clean, and there are showers available for campers, which is a huge plus if you’re staying multiple nights. Campsites are shaded by tall evergreens, and many offer privacy. Conveniently located just outside of Bellingham, the park is close enough to town that you can easily grab forgotten supplies, yet once you’re in the park you don’t hear the highway at all. It’s quiet, peaceful, and feels completely tucked away in nature. Larrabee is known for its beach access—great skipping rocks, or simply relaxing by the water. The hiking trails range from easy family-friendly walks to more challenging routes, with views that are well worth the effort. Kids will especially enjoy the shaded areas and open spaces to play. The park is surrounded by trees, which provide plenty of shade and a sense of seclusion. It’s an excellent place for families, groups, or even solo travelers looking for a peaceful getaway in nature. Between the clean facilities, great hiking, beach access, and proximity to Bellingham, this park offers the perfect balance of convenience and outdoor adventure. We will definitely be returning, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

My kids, large dog and I were on our way home from a hike and saw the entrance for the park and thought it would be fun to stop and take a quick peek at the views. We were very pleasantly surprised by a wonderful park! Playground, grassy hillside area with a stage and covered area, and then you can walk down the hillside on a gravel/dirt and root path through the forest to a beach with incredible views! It was a small pebble type beach with a creek flowing down the hill and into the ocean. The water was calm and the skies were clear and the views at nearly sunset were breathtaking. My kids found rocks to climb on and little tide pools full of hermit crabs and barnacles and dubbed today the best day ever.
Chelsea F — Google review
I normally love this state park and I have camped here a few years in a row, this time our experience was not the best. When we pulled in and got out of the car, we smelt this awful stench. I immediately thought something was rotting in our campsite. We searched the campsite high and low. I truly thought there was rotten crab somewhere. I then realized that the garbage bin was letting out the most repulsive smell ever, and the whole back half of the campground could smell it. In addition, the trail down to the beach is not kept up and lastly, the water has been overtaken by sea grass so my children couldn’t swim. The playground area was well kept up.

UPDATE: we have now come back 4 years later and it is still great! The bathrooms were really clean and the campsites were awesome. We had a great time! This time we used the trailer/ RV area and everything worked great and we had an awesome weekend! Highly recommended, but again get ready for the train noises. Camping at Larabee state park was amazing!!! We had an issue with a rude person, but the park ranger got that settled quickly and professionally. The atmosphere is beautiful, watching sunset with my love at the beach was breathtaking. The trains did come a few times, but we are locals and are pretty used to the train schedule. Our site had some drainage issues, but that is noted on the website. Our site had good privacy and the bathrooms were clean. We definitely will be coming back!! I will say, the trails are awesome and I was able to manage walking from the camp sites to the beach, even with a broken ankle.
Rowdy K — Google review
My favorite place for hiking and beach exploration! Trails and parking are along both sides of the road. Beachfront is rugged and fascinating. A beautiful beach with gorgeous scenery! The walk down was really easy and there were lots of little tide pools during low tide. There is a picnic area too. Don't forget your discover pass or $10 for day use! You can buy your state park day pass at the machine in the parking lot. The Beach is less than 0.2 miles down a mostly paved path with some stone steps.

Nestled at the entrance to Roche Harbor, the San Juan Islands Sculpture Park & Nature Reserve is a captivating 20-acre outdoor haven that showcases over 150 unique sculptures crafted by talented Northwest artists. This enchanting park features meandering trails that wind through lush meadows, serene woods, and alongside a picturesque pond with views of Westcott Bay. It's an ideal spot for families to explore and appreciate art in nature's embrace.
Know before coming that this is pretty much just a huge area with several paths to stroll around and look at various sculptures in nature. Young children will probably get bored. If you’re looking for a great place to unwind and relax, this will be your jam! I was actually surprised just how many art pieces there were and just how long the walk was. By no means do you need to see the whole place, but if you do, you’ll get a fantastic little workout in. I’m not a poetry guy, but loved all the little poems displayed from local residents. Especially all the ones from school-aged children. Some really good work here and I couldn’t stop reading! Parking and entry are free, however a $5 donation is recommended and I would say the time you will spend here will be worth far more than just $5.

Beautiful green space to walk and observe sculptures by local artists. There are many different paths to follow inside. There are also benches along the paths to take rest.
Hafsah K — Google review
I like that this place is free and open to the public. There are a lot of neat sculptures, mostly toward the front. I really enjoyed the fairy garden and miniature buildings. The whimsical woods was... More like a cheap Halloween trail in the day time? The art looked creepy as if it was from a cleaned out antique shop of trash and horrors. The pond trail was cute though, I liked the fish net sheep for example. It is still worth the visit even if not all the art is to your taste. I can say there is something for everyone here.

Beautiful, tranquil outdoor space with unique sculptures and poems. We only had about 30 min, so didn't see the whole park. I would estimate that one could easily spend several hours enjoying the art and grounds.

Spencer Spit State Park, located on the northeast side of Lopez Island in the San Juan archipelago, is a 200-acre beachfront park offering a variety of outdoor activities. The park features two sand spits that have formed a marshy lagoon, providing excellent opportunities for birdwatching and waterfowl observation. Visitors can enjoy camping, boating, crabbing, picnicking, kayaking, fishing and beachcombing at this picturesque destination.
Great Park. Clean and well hosted campground, space between the sites, all sorts of trails, and short hikes. ample wildlife for a homan occupied area. Don't miss out on the shoreline. come by car, by boat, by bicycle. this is a solid choice.
Brock G — Google review
I give it five stars, but from a boater's perspective, it deserves less. I must say this place is very popular, but I simply cannot see why. #1 It is a spit, so it is out in the wind. We have been cruising the San Juans for decades, and it is always blowing here. The one good thing about the spit is that there is always a lee shore with a buoy where you can get away from the wind driven waves but not the wind itself. #2 It's a long walk to the park bathrooms, nuff said. #3 There is a swampy area on the spit, making transporting and pushing bikes a pain. The park is nice and fairly big for those coming by car, but for boaters, it is just a windy place to grab a buoy. I'll post a pic of my wife and son on a day when there was no wind.

Nice campground with really friendly and helpful camp hosts. The beach isn’t super great for swimming but it’s still fun. The bathrooms are clean. We had a great time and loved exploring the island. Cell service is super spotty to non-existent on the whole island but on the left of the spit you can get the best service. This was important for me as I was camping with kids and extended family but my husband was at home.

An absolutely wonderful campground! The sites have good privacy and quite a bit of shade. The beach is beautiful and not crowded. If you are looking for a couples camping experience, I recommend a stay during the week as there are less young ones. Biking, hiking, exploring and beaches are an amazing experience here. Walking around the Spit is a wonderful experience! All the different species of wildlife is pretty amazing!

Not only does it boast stunning sandy beaches and serene woodlands, but it also offers a glimpse into the past with historical sites from the 1859 Pig War between British and American forces.
This was a great park. We saw several foxes, bald eagles, seals, and sea lions. There are plenty of different trails to hike and a nice visitor center. The park is well maintained and in a stunning location. The old camp was nicer than any infantry duty station I ever had.

There is a great interpretive center here with lots of information. Parking is limited but a lot of trails out to cattle point and South Beach originate from here. There are bathrooms but the center does close early around three. Even if the center closes, they leave the parking lot open. You can’t camper overnight park, but can park here for most of the day. This is a good starting point for a bike ride or hike out to cattle point.

Great visitor center explaining US and British conflict over the international border during the Pig War in mid 1800s. Contains American Camp with white fences and some buildings and signage. Beautiful prairie grass, Cattle Pass, Gulf of Juan da Fuca views. Lots of native flora and fauna including a red fox that was hunting voles.

Lovely grounds, don't blame the British Marines for hating to leave. Didn't make it here with the visitor center open, but walking around is still awesome. Pear trees and Garry oaks all over! The cemetery and Young Hill overlook were also worth the hike. Recommended stop for sure along with the American camp. Great compliments to each other.
Heidi V — Google review
This park is not just a "one stop" location. It covers a large area of the island, mostly on the southern point. There are trails, beaches, cliffs, water views, a light house and the old forts. All located within an easy drive of each other. So plan on spending a day exploring them all as I did. If you want to camp, options are limited. San Juan county park is the main option with limited spaces that fill up quickly so plan accordingly. Another note, the ferries are currently experiencing boat and personnel shortages so ferries are not necessarily on time and are also frequently cancelled. Patience and flexibility are a must! You can (must) reserve your spot for the ferry but know that even that is not a guarantee.

Visiting Lummi Island was a truly special experience — made even more meaningful because one of my best friends owns a place there. This quiet, scenic island feels like a world away from the noise of daily life. Surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, it offers breathtaking coastal views, peaceful forests, and a calm, unhurried pace that instantly puts you at ease. Whether walking along the rocky shores, enjoying the ferry ride over, or simply sitting outside and taking in the sunsets, every moment on the island felt genuine and grounding. The sense of community is warm and welcoming, and the landscape has a timeless charm that’s hard to find elsewhere. Lummi Island is one of those places that captures your heart quietly — it’s not about flashy attractions but about connection, nature, and simplicity. Visiting because of my friend gave it an even deeper personal meaning, and it’s a place I’ll always remember fondly.

Lummi island and its 900 human inhabitants is remote and beautiful. We saw otters, seals, and bald eagles in early June. I would love to return here. There is a restaurant near the ferry and it was very good! Definitely recommend eating there for the delicious food, kind and personable staff, beautiful views and it's important to contribute to the local economy when traveling (i.e. spend money). There isn't a whole lot to do, which was great for me because I had to slow down and just take it in. Most of the island is private beaches so just consider that when booking a room (we were lucky to find a place with beach access).

Odlin County Park is a charming waterfront park located on the Salish Sea, offering camping and picnicking opportunities. Situated conveniently close to the ferry landing and Lopez Village, this pleasant campground features clean restrooms and ocean viewing spots. While it lacks direct beach access, it provides a safe beach for kids to play in the water and sand. The park also boasts a constructed wetlands area, making it an ideal spot for nature exploration and appreciation.
Great camping spot run by San Juan County. Spots available right on the beach (and tend to be less soggy in the rainy season). Vault toilets are kept very clean by the staff. Plenty of water spigots, trash and recycling facilities available. Fire pits and picnic tables at each campground site. Trails for hiking and even a little baseball field for a pickup game. Obviously the scenery is beautiful and the ferries passing by at twilight are definitely a highlight!

I stayed this campsite for 4 nights 5 days. The campsite I was able to book has limited view of ocean and it's high location compared to sea level. So I didn't have direct access to ocean. But regardless, my booked site was end of campsite. So relatively less traffic of cars and people. Only hope in future of this campsite is to have shower facility. I brought portable shower, portable standing tent to get a shower at the campsite this time. I went out ocean at 3 places at Lopez. Just outside from this Odlin State Park was one of them. I enjoyed a lot at "slowpez island" stay at Labor Day weekend.

The parking lot in San Juan was a hindrance due to ferry cancellations, resulting in a delay. During the wait for the next ferry, one could take a pleasant stroll to the beach. It offered an enjoyable walk and provided a serene spot to observe sailboats and an exceptionally friendly seal that kept watch for several hours, frequently passing by. The beach is ideal for early morning or afternoon walks, with ample driftwood providing an exciting play area for children.
Jackson Beach is a family favorite of ours. Very easy to get to, no hiking involved so if you are towing a bunch of kids gear it is pretty simple. Jackson is a great place for plenty of beach activities. There is a beach volleyball court set up, picnic spots with grills, a covered gazebo, boat launch etc. We like to go paddle boarding and kayaking from Jackson and we just stay in the little bay. We have also dropped crab pots off of our kayaks and caught quite a few after leaving them for a few hours. I definitely recommend Jackson at low tide when there is plenty of beach to explore and mini tide pools to see lots of anemones.

Gorgeous little beach and park with excellent parking and even some restrooms. There's an amazing native American sculpture, a pavilion with a fire pit and several picnic spots with fire pits. Driftwood can be a bit challenging to navigate to get to the beach. Some sand and lots of pebbles.

I'm sure this place is fabulous for some people but there are so many more picturesque parks on the island that make me bump this place down. Long beach with tons of driftwood, picnic area and a boat launch.

Discovery Sea Kayak Tours is a tour service located in downtown Friday Harbor, offering a 3-hour sea kayak tour of the San Juan Islands Monument departing from Anacortes. Visitors have praised the company for its personalized and friendly approach, making them feel like they were on an adventure with close friends rather than a big company. The tours are led by knowledgeable guides who provide interesting insights into the area's history and wildlife, ensuring an enjoyable experience for both first-timers and experienced kayakers.
Ended up with a private tour for myself and my husband. Our guide Brendan was super energetic and very knowledgeable about all things sea life. We stepped out of our comfort box to try sea grass and bull kelp with the urging of Brendan. Lunch was simple but fresh and tasty which was perfect. A fantastic day! The weather was flat calm at the start to 3 foot seas coming home! Just absolutely perfect. Thank you Brendan! You were so fantastic.
Patrice F — Google review
Great tour guide, Brandon was very energetic and knowledgeable! The views were spectacular. I’m hoping to go again another time for their bioluminescent kayaking tour. Overall an amazing experience!
Madison H — Google review
Jethro was a fantastic guide. He was very accommodating to me as someone who had never sea kayaked. He was very quick to answer questions and provide information about the marine life surrounding us. I would absolutely recommend Discovery Sea Kayak Tours to anyone - whether they had kayaked previously or were new to this. I can’t wait to come back next year.

I would absolutely recommend Discovery Sea Kayaks for your next Sea Kayaking adventure. It is abundantly clear how much care they put into their services while still providing a laid back, relaxing outdoor experience. Safety and comfort are a top priority and guides are thoroughly trained on how to create the best experience with each unique trip they take their guests on. Thank you to Brandon for hosting us and showing us such a great time! Will definitely be using their services for future opportunities.

Our three day trip was epic. Brandon was an excellent guide and person. He was so attentive and made everything enjoyable. The kayaking was fabulous. We enjoyed the wildlife, the views, the amazing sunset hike, and the delicious food! The group size was perfect. In addition to Brandon as our guide, we loved working with Naomi and Kelly. We highly recommend this adventure.

What an incredible experience on the last day of the season with Discovery Sea Kayak. We live on SJI and this was our first time and we’re so happy we chose this company. It was seamless from inquiring to booking to the actual experience. Our guides, Caleb and Jethro, were awesome! Super laid back, informative and just all around friendly (and patient). So excited to do it again!
Janice A — Google review
Amazing day on the water! Caleb was a great guide and we learned a ton along the way. Super friendly and laid back staff. Would got back to them 10/10 times!
Dylan A — Google review
As a professional sea kayak guide for seven years, one might argue I have some authority to speak on the subject of kayak tours. Our guide, Jethro, was engaging, informative, and professional. He thoroughly explained how to appropriately don spray skirts, PFDs, and introduced the basics of paddling/safety in such a way that made it easy for those who might not have as much experience. Our group consisted of my partner and myself, and two other couples who were older than us. We reached Lime Kiln State Park quicker than expected due to the combined paddling strength of the group and the currents. Although we didn't see any whales (we weren't too hopeful anyway), we did see a plethora of other critters including a bald eagle, rock sausages (seals), and jellyfish (Jethro even picked up a moon jelly and gave it to my partner to hold for their first time ever). I was pleasantly satisfied with the amount of information Jethro provided about the area during our tour. This is usually one of my sticking points when I take kayak tours and he did great. We never felt ignored, we learned something, and we saw/felt/smelt some sights/sounds. The only issue/concern my partner brought up that I agreed with is it might be a bit much to ask some clients to help carry the kayaks from storage to the water and back. They are heavy boats and it isn't necessarily advertised online that clients are expected to carry their own weight in that respect. I helped pick up the slack, but my partner has a small stature and hurt their hand carrying the kayak across from someone who wasn't pulling their weight. Kayak carts might be a thoughtful investment. Other than that, we had a great time and would recommend this company to others visiting the area.

Lime Kiln Lighthouse, located at Lime Kiln Point on the other side of San Juan Island, is a charming 106-year-old lighthouse that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. The park features igneous rock formations and trails with scenic outlooks. Visitors can also listen to underwater sounds, including calls from whales and orcas, through a hydrophone. It's a great spot for wildlife spotting, especially whale watching.
One of our favorite places on Earth! The park can get pretty busy during the summer months, which impacts parking, but definitely worth the wait if you find yourself waiting for a parking space to open up. One of the most unique features is out in the water. We have been here many times and have seen orcas here so many times now that we've lost track!

Mount Constitution is the highest point in the San Juan Islands and the second highest island mountain in the contiguous United States. It offers a challenging 8-mile loop trail with steep elevation gain, leading to a stone watchtower at the summit that provides breathtaking panoramic views. The hike begins along Mountain Lake, passes Twin Lakes, and ascends steeply to reach the top. While it's a popular spot for sunset viewing, access to the road closes at dusk, making sunrise accessible only by a 3.
Beautiful even on a cloudy/foggy day. We were able to drive up and walk the rest of the way with our dogs.

Best view on Orcas Island! A discover pass is required, otherwise you need to pay for parking. It’s a short walk to the top, and there is a nice informational facility in the parking lot with restrooms and a place to fill your water bottle. The drive up the mountain is so pretty, but watch for bikes and oncoming traffic since the road is somewhat narrow.

Otis Perkins Day Park is a charming coastal gem that offers visitors a delightful escape into nature. After settling into your accommodations, such as the Edenwild Boutique Hotel or Lopez Farm Cottages, you can savor a delicious dinner at Blue Heron Bistro before heading to this picturesque park for an evening stroll. The park features a scenic 1.36-mile round trip along its gravel beach, where you'll encounter stunning views of Fisherman Bay and the surrounding islands.
Sweet little bit of sand with a great view and the best place to throw rocks at driftwood.

This is a very nice short round trip from the park entrance to the point where houses are built and back that measures approximately 1.36 miles of gravel based beach. Lots of shorebirds, sand, driftwood and great views of Fisherman Bay and San Juan and Shaw Island. On any given day of exploring, one can find Bald Eagles and many waterbirds. It is both a grand place to visit as well as relax after a long day. I am sad that I had to move away. My roommate decided after cutting hair all day long he can't stand having anyone live with him and he requested I move out. I will miss the many great places, great residents and life on Lopez Island. I am currently staying in Swede Haven as I look for long term housing.

Matia Island, the third of the outer San Juan Islands, offers a secluded and primitive camping experience. Open fires are not allowed at any time, but gas stoves for cooking are permitted. Rolfe Cove on the northwest side provides protection from weather, with mooring buoy and dock space available. Matia Cove on the southeast side is shallow and lacks protection from southern weather. The island features a beautiful hiking trail that loops around it and boasts stunning views.
A very special place I have been coming since I was a littlie kid! Rolfe Cove on the northwest side is the most protected, unless you're expecting weather from the Straits of Georgia. There is one mooring buoy in Rolfe Cove and enough dock space for 4-5 boats of 20-30ft. Matia Cove on the South east side is beautiful but it is shallow and not protected from the usual weather out of the south. A beautiful hike is found on the trail that loops around the island. There are micro climates on this island so one of the valleys has a bunch of ferns and the other valley has it's own groundcover and different types of trees. There is a frog pond where every evening thousands of frogs can be heard. If you haven't been do yourself a favor and come see this special place.
