Abbey Wharf is a popular bi-level eatery located in Whitby, offering a versatile dining and entertainment experience for all occasions. The restaurant boasts a relaxed and welcoming ambiance with a diverse crowd, including families, friends, couples, and even pets. Established in 2015, Abbey Wharf has become one of the most favored harbourside restaurants in Whitby. The menu features an array of dishes such as fresh salads, steak, vegetarian options, seafood, and fish dishes.
We read some mixed reviews about this place before I booked, but we had a good meal and experience. I had the mussels and my husband had the calamari. They had a good amount of meat, fish and vegetarian options. Both our meals were decent. Nice music playing, chilled vibes, the cocktail menu was HUGE and went down a treat. If you’re looking for 5 star Michelin dining, this isn’t the place for you. If you want a nice, chilled eatery by the bay, you’ll enjoy this place. It was one of our favourite meals of our visit.

Great location with a terrace overlooking the harbour. Large and spacious with tables spread out - very comfy. Food was good especially the whitebait which was amazing. My husbands white fish was a little overdone but otherwise would definitely return here.

Abbey Wharf is a wonderfully welcoming spot with incredibly friendly staff who make the visit feel special from the moment you arrive. The views are absolutely stunning—worth the trip alone—and it’s great to see access for all, including wheelchair users. We tried the new Craven cod, and it was awesome—plentiful, satisfying, and beautifully cooked. We also had the salmon, which was epic, and the burgers, which the boys loved. I wouldn’t go so far as to claim it’s the very best fish and chip shop in Whitby, but it’s definitely up there. Highly recommended, especially for that amazing view and thoughtful accessibility.

A great place for seafood in Whitby. Lots of seats and dog friendly too. Really enjoyed the white bait, haddock fishcake and mussels. Highly recommended!

Dog friendly place for really good food and drinks inn heart of Whitby. We had mussels, huge portions well cooked and with lovely chips and bread for sauce dipping 👌 cod and chips very good, calamari and chips again very good, friendly service great location lots of space, live Music on a Saturday night. If you are in Whitby I would definitely recommend a visit

A great place to dine by the harbour with a lively atmosphere. The food is delicious – the fish pie is especially good and highly recommended. It’s dog-friendly too, which makes it an even better spot to relax and enjoy a meal while taking in the views of Whitby.

* Beautiful Balcony: The venue features an extensive balcony that wraps around the building, offering stunning panoramic views of the Whitby harbour, including the East and West Piers. This seems to be a major highlight for many visitors, who enjoy watching the boats and the general hustle and bustle of the town from this vantage point. Some reviews specifically mention being able to sit on the balcony with a drink or meal and soak in the atmosphere. * Very Spacious: Abbey Wharf is frequently described as a very spacious venue. It has a large restaurant area that can seat over 250 guests, a mezzanine level for larger parties and reservations, and a separate takeaway area. The generous space creates a relaxed atmosphere, accommodating different elements of food, drink, and live music without feeling cramped. The building itself is a Grade II listed building, formerly a covered market and then a factory, which likely contributes to its large, open layout. In addition to the balcony and spaciousness, other positive points from reviews include: * Food: A menu with a strong focus on seafood, as well as meat dishes and vegetarian/gluten-free options. The fish is sourced from local suppliers and the steaks are from a local butcher. * Drinks: A well-stocked bar with over 20 gins, its own beer brewed by Whitby Brewery, and a variety of other drinks. * Atmosphere: A relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere during the day, which becomes livelier in the evenings with live music events. It's also dog-friendly in certain areas. * Views: Beyond the balcony, the restaurant and mezzanine levels also offer great views of the harbour through panoramic windows.

Lively atmosphere, great views. Does the basics on food well. Dog friendly. Staff seem a little over it. Expensive on the drinks and extras. Felt a touch exploited by the cost of drinks really. bar staff had lost the will to live a little… you decide on value, receipt in photo. It’s a reliable and friendly place overall - always busy.

Harry's Lounge Bar & Brasserie is an upscale restaurant and bar located in the picturesque town of Whitby. Established in 2008, it offers a fabulous mixture of cafe, restaurant, and cocktail bar. The venue boasts beautiful views of Whitby's harbor and provides a warm and stylish accommodation with free WiFi. The menu features locally-caught seafood, meat dishes sourced from local butchers, and vegetarian options.
I'm from Hull. Been out for the day stopped off at Harry's for something to eat. Straight from the off the staff was brilliant. We was greeted really well and shown to our table (it was table service too) once sat down the one of the other female staff came over asked if we would like drinks we ordered the drinks then presented the menu. Once the three of us dicided what we wanted the female staff came over ASAP. She was fantastic took our order she was really polite and had a lovely smile as did all the other staff. The food didn't take long to come out served with a smile and lovely to us all. The food we had fish and chips it was well presented and was really delicious. As we was eating we were asked if everything was okay and it was it was really great. I advise anyone especially visitors to go to Harry's great experience friendly and house warming staff. We are going back when we next visit Whitby

We came earlier this year and loved it that much we've been back 3 times on our current trip. Cocktails are really lovely 😍 Dinner was amazing try the seafood linguine you won't be disappointed. Breakfast of champions. Lots of choices. The service here is impeccable 👌

Just spent 2 nights here for our 30th wedding anniversary. The room was perfect, we stayed in the Martini suite. Lovely decor, spacious and a comfy bed. The view was an added bonus as well! The staff were all lovely and couldn't do enough for you. We opted to have breakfast in our room, which was spot on. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a posh restaurant in Whitby and we ordered lobster, steak, stone bass, and seafood pasta. It doesn’t have a view as the shops cross the street blocked it. Overall we enjoyed it for the special occasion.
Ying Y — Google review
Looked a nice place 2 cocktails for 15 pound sounded nice, however you could not get different cocktails they had to be the same, I asked for a porn star martini which cost 12 pound so went back and asked if I could do the 15 pound deal to be told that cocktails was not included. I realise there was a list of cocktails but felt the staff could have been a bit more helpful. We would have stayed and come back but not now

Didn't stay in the hotel just popped in for a drink and lunch. Everything was really good excellent service. So good I even decided to go back in the morning for breakfast will definitely be back next time I'm in whitby and it's even dog friendly

We were here on holiday last week, and visited this restaraunt pretty late in the evening, but they could not have been more helpful in seating us, and getting us menu's. The staff were very good, explaining everything, service was quick, and the food was delicious, especially those hanging kebabs! Definitley will be back next time we visit.
Gary B — Google review
Lovely setting inside this evening. We both had Chef's specials, Hake with Sag aloo & Bhaji was excellent but the chef's fish pie was disappointing, description was white fish, salmon, prawns & mussels. This had absolutely no mussels in it and was mainly salmon & prawns with one chunk of white fish. The server gave us a glass of wine to compensate which was a nice touch but it was ashame there was hardly any white fish or mussels which are a local catch.

The Moon & Sixpence is a modern restaurant and bar located on Marine Parade, offering stunning views of the Whitby harborside. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, it serves a variety of delicious dishes, with a strong emphasis on seafood sourced locally. The menu includes options like beer-battered prawns and oyster platters as well as hearty burgers and barbecue ribs.
Both the cocktail mocktail and the food are of very high quality. It is a bar and restaurant with no seating. As long as there is a table, you can sit down freely. In terms of food, a special recommendation is the octopus seafood with slow-cooked pork. The pork is full of fragrance and has a very good texture. The octopus is cooked to perfection and very spicy. All the alcoholic drinks are very good in terms of taste and taste. It is suitable for everyone to come here to chat with friends and enjoy a wonderful afternoon.

We managed to book a table for our group of 8 and really enjoyed it. There are plenty of seats in the front with a direct view of the sea and harbour and also a lovely big dining area upstairs. The restaurant is located perfectly on the busy promenade where it's very central but not too loud. The service was great and the food well made and tasty. Everybody had a good time!
T F — Google review
Staff were lovely, it was a nice spot. The cocktails were okay - not much to the mojitos. For a cocktail bar expected a bit more. The food was good - but for the price it was a bit on the high side. However everywhere around the area the prices were high, but I understand that’s just the current economy. Would come again, but would not drink.

Great little pub. Loads of cocktail options with classic cocktails and ones with a twist. A great selection of mocktails too. The staff are always friendly and happy to see you. Great view of the Abby whilst sat outside and in one of the quieter places of Whitby so there's not loads of foot traffic going past.
Jack F — Google review
Sat outside and enjoyed a lovely mocktail. Spotted this place on our trip last year but it was always so busy which was a good sign. We managed to get a table outside one evening to enjoy a drink. I had the French martini mocktail which was lovely. My partner had the spicy watermelon margarita which well…wow! Look at the photo of it. Friendly staff.

Modern bar directly opposite the harbour so great views, especially sat outside on a lovely night. Didn't eat there so cannot comment on the food but the expressio Martini and Aspall cider were great. Friendly staff.

Rusty Shears is a charming eatery located just off Silver Street in Whitby, offering a delightful patio setting and a diverse menu. Known for serving up breakfast staples, homemade cakes, local fare, and an extensive gin list, it's a must-visit spot. The establishment also hosts bistro evenings on weekends with exciting menus created by their chefs. With its quaint Victoriana setting and sheltered courtyard, Rusty Shears provides a unique atmosphere to enjoy their delectable offerings.
We’ve visited Rusty Shears a few times now. Do not go here if you want fast food! Tea is served properly in China tea pots with loose leaf tea. The menu is varied but the breakfasts ( and bacon butties) are really good. They are dog friendly and when I asked for an extra sausage they asked if it was for our dog and fetched out two cool sausages cut up ready for our dog. On our last morning in Whitby we walked past Rusty Shears and our dog turned a sharp left straight into their courtyard! She is a fan as well !
Gary K — Google review
Although the place has a nice atmosphere, I was disappointed. From the moment we sat down at the table We waited 20 minutes for someone to take our order, and when we wanted to do it, we found out that almost everything was already sold out and only sandwiches were left. And not even all the sandwiches, just some of them After placing our order, we waited 40 minutes for two sandwiches and fries. Yes 40 minutes. Unfortunately, the staff seemed unsure what to do. Everyone was doing a little bit of everything.Lack of organization and someone to manage who should do what.

A hidden gem of a cafe on Silver Street in Whitby. Located on a lovely little street and away from the crowds this beautiful cafe in a small courtyard is brimming with atmosphere and charm. A very good menu and the food was excellent. Very quick service and lovely staff. We sat in the courtyard under the biggest fig tree I had ever seen. It was a hot day and this tree provided the most wonderful shade. There is seating inside. If parked on the car parks by the harbour you about 10 minutes away but up hill as is everything in Whitby! However the walk is worth it. This is a dog friendly cafe.
Angela W — Google review
Hidden gem alert !!! A brilliant café for people to take rest after enjoying a whole morning at the Whitby harbour area. The interior design is very soothing. It is the kind of café that you want to stay a little longer to relax and enjoy your afternoon tea. The location is also great. It is even near the Botham's so you can also grab some pastries and cake before you leave. I feel like I am probably the only one who had and will order an avocado salmon salad in this cafe but Jesus this salad is just peak. It's been four months since I visited that place, but I still can't forget the charming texture of the salmon with the yummy cheese and sauce!
Hol L — Google review
A regular place my wife and I frequent when we are in Whitby. The food is hot, freshly cooked and very, very tasty. The coffee is full bodied and large and the tea is made by using tea leaves, something of a rarity nowadays. It is a very comfortable place to sit and watch other customers eat, drink and chat about their day. The service is not too obstrusive and allow time from entry to order at an acceptable time period. We will be back, next time we are in Whitby. Thank you.
Martin — Google review
Oh my god, I loved their bacon eggs Benedict! HIGHLY recommend. Came for breakfast, everything came out quick, atmosphere was lovely and left in a timely fashion. Everything was lovely and smooth. Americano was great too.

We went here for breakfast. Delicious eggs royale! One of the best I have ever had. My husband had a huge sausage and bacon sarnie! Accompanied by a pot of Yorkshire loose leaf tea! Lovely and friendly staff. Thanks will be sure to visit again next time we’re in Whitby.

Sanders Yard Bistro, located on Church Street in Whitby, is a charming and friendly eatery offering informal international fare from breakfast to early evening. The bistro features a cosy lounge area, formal dining room, and a beautiful vertical garden space. They are passionate about using locally sourced ingredients and offer numerous gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options on their menu.
I was treated to afternoon tea here, it was absolutely delicious! Tucked away up a little alley in Whitby a lovely Bistro. Seating inside & out, a great menu & wonderful staff. We each had a choice of 2 sandwiches, that were made with very fresh bread & generous fillings, an extra soup, tart or humous with pitta bread, a scone with cream & jam, plus a choice of 2 slices of cake (not small portions may I add!) We ended up taking our cake home! Not forgetting tea or coffee. It was certainly worth the 100+ mile round trip. I throughly enjoyed my treat! The other food served to other customers also looked wonderful & a decent sized portion. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Highly recommend Sanders Yard Bistro! Our group (5 ladies) had hired a house in Whitby for the weekend and wanted to order food in for 1 of the evenings. I contacted Sanders Yard to enquire about outside catering and Sophie was super helpful from the beginning and sent me loads of suggestions. Sophie delivered the food to the house for us, it all came boxed and labelled up. The food was delicious and great value for money! We couldn't eat it all on the first evening, so we had it again on the second day. Thanks again Sophie for a super service.

Great little place serving cakes and lunchtime type food up until 3pm, after that its coffee and cakes only. They serge beer but its bottles only. I had the the Moroccan hummus with pitta bread and it was really tasty, especially the sweet potato fries from the specials board. My partner had smoked haddock and cheddar cheese fishcakes also off the specials board and said it was very tasty.
Jan A — Google review
What a delightful place to find. Popped in for a coffee. Walked down the alleyway to the door. There you wait for someone to seat you. After only a few seconds were were taken to a table. We wanted inside. The place is like the tardis from doctor who. It's big inside as well having a nice courtyard. Ended up ordering a breakfast as well as the coffee. Glad I did . It was fab. Even the tomato was cooked through. So many places can't cook a tomato. The bacon and everything else was nice and a big plus it's served on a hot plate so it all stays hot.

A good place to retreat for lunch in Whitby. One could ask why all my ratings are on the higher side of the scale. It’s because I only rate those places I would go back to or would recommend to others. I also think all good food, friendly service and comfortable surroundings is enough to earn a 4 or 5… May be I should rate lesser experiences but just feel bad leaving 3 stars or below reviews. Sandler Yard is five stars and highly recommended. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Whitby’s retail shops this bistro offers an extensive menu of well prepared and tasty meals. I have to rate my burger a 5/5. The patty was light and airy and the right ratio of fat and minced beef. I really like that the extras provided on the side so that the burger wasn’t overfilled and prone to falling apart from plate to mouth. I know it’s hard to tell from my picture but it really was a great burger. I was assured by my wife that the warm goat and pear salad was equally as good. Nice and spacious dining room. We didn’t try the cakes as we were full, but there were plenty of choices there. Coffee was nice and strong if you are like me and prefer a COFFEE!
Warren M — Google review
Stumbled upon this place while looking for a bite to eat. It’s up an alleyway but opens up into a pretty little court yard. The inside decor was nice too. We order two platters which was plenty for 4 of us. Staff friendly and welcoming. Would happily pop in here again.

I was a guest at my friends wedding reception. The food and service was second to none. Highly recommended 👌
Sharon H — Google review
A great find down a narrow alley in the centre of Whitby, across the river on the Abbey side. The town was packed as there was a folk weekend on and around lunchtime all the restaurants etc. were full, however, we found this jem which still had vacancies. We'll definitely be calling there again as the food was fantastic. I had the Moroccan inspired hummus with halloumi, pitta bread and sweet potato fries off the specials board and my partner had Thai inspired fish cakes and all of it was delicious. There was a pretty little courtyard for outside eating or tastefully decorated inside. The waitresses were quick, friendly and efficient. Definitely a place to re visit next time.

Cranberry Swamp is a popular breakfast spot in Whitby, known for its exceptional service and delicious food. Despite being short-staffed during the visit, the staff managed it well by altering the menu and informing customers about wait times. The restaurant offers a variety of breakfast options, including gluten-free and vegan choices. Customers can enjoy alternative breakfasts such as avocado and bacon on toast, porridge, house kedgeree, and their famous Mex eggs.
Despite the cafe being busy everything was exceptional, I had the swamp breakfast and the quality of ingredients was superb, nice tasty sausages, thick bacon and deep tasting yolks on the eggs! Despite being low staffed in the kitchen (which they warned us on the wait and the wait wasn’t bad at all!) everything was cooked to perfection so the chefs got it figured out! Impressive food, impressive service and an overall tremendous breakfast experience… Thanks team!

An amazing place. We arrived early on a Sunday morning, not realising it was one of the few places actually open in that season on a Sunday, so within about 20 mins there was barely a seat left in the place! Perfect for gluten free options, so many in fact it was a little overwhelming at times :-D Super tasty food, great service and a nice atmosphere in this small cafe. Definitely recommended!

We really enjoyed our breakfast at the Cranberry Swamp. We had poached eggs & tomatoes and pancakes with fruit and honey. Great portions & tasted delicious. Seemed to be a great cafe if you have a dog too as almost every customer had one! Will visit again when we're next in Whitby!

I have been to Cranberry Swamp for both dine in and take away and the food and service both match the same quality and love every single time. They have wide range of options based on your dietary preferences/ restrictions. Very warm and pleasant staff. And the place is very Child friendly, Pet Friendly and equally welcoming to both tourists and locals.

Awesome breakfast and came highly recommended from a friend that holidays in Whitby all the time. The selection of breakfasts and lunches is numerous and very different but with something to suit most. We only went for breakfast, but the burger selection alone looked worth investigating. Very quirky decor and plenty of seating!

One of our party has a gluten, soya and milk allergy, Cranberry Swamp was able to cater for all of those. All the food was very good quality and tasty. The cafe was closing as we went past on another occasion but they were kind enough to stop and check ingredients in a couple of desserts for the person with allergies as we had not been able to find any throughout the day, and were able to buy a couple. Thank you so much for your patience and kindness, the desserts were delicious I'm told

Royal Fisheries is a well-established fish 'n' chips shop and licensed cafe in Whitby, run by the Fusco family since the 1960s. The place is known for its traditional cooking methods and expertise in frying haddock, cod, plaice, and sole in their own-recipe batter using beef dripping. Despite being less famous than some competitors, it has garnered positive reviews for its flaky white fish and value for money.
In my opinion I don't think a trip to Whitby is complete without a visit to the Royal, the staff are very friendly and pleasant. Never before have I seen a fish and chips shop have crinkle chips which I thinks adds a nice touch for presentation and overall chip enjoyment. In a increasingly expensive fish and chip market, the Yorkshire deal is definitely worth the price. The batter had a healthy colour good crispness and did not get soggy and drop off which is top marks from me.

We have been eating in here for years with our young family. Food is consistently good and we love the crinkle cut chips. Fish is always fresh. One gripe this time was the menu changes around kids meals. There is no kids fish and chips. No cod bites. And it really annoyed us. Why? Well, instead, the choice is a frozen fish finger, chicken bites or a sausage. My kids want fish and chips in a chippy. Pay for an adult portion I hear the owners say! No - I want to pay a fair price to feed my kids with a piece of your fresh fish. Instead we paid £14.50 ish for my 7 year old’s meal so she could have fish. Surely there’s a way around it!

Absolutely blown away by this place—some of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had! The batter was golden, crisp, and full of flavour, but what really sent it over the edge were the battered bits—call them what you want: scraps, scrapings, or crispy heaven—they were next-level, honestly god-like! The portions were generous, the fish was fresh and flaky, and everything was piping hot. Big shoutout to Chris for the brilliant tips on how to dodge the cheeky seagulls—lifesaver! The restaurant is easy to access whether you’re eating in or grabbing takeaway, and the whole experience felt like a proper Whitby highlight. If you’re in Whitby and you’re not stopping here, you’re missing out. No joke—this is THE chip shop to visit. I’ll 100% be back, and I’ll be dreaming of those battered bits until then. Highly recommended!

Absolutely wow. Just the best fish and chips we've had. The Irish curry is a showstopper and the chips are addictive!! Would 100% return.

was recommended by a Whitby local, thanks JJ, the taste was absolutely incredible, the batter melted in my mouth and the fish was delicious, the chips were awesome too, A+++++++++

The home of the crinkle cut chips and they were delicious ! Had a piece of haddock cooked while I waited and it was perfect. No grease, tasty batter and lovely thick white fish. Their mushy peas are the best in Whitby.

Came here on a recommendation from the owner of the place we stayed at on holiday. We were not disappointed! Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Whitby and serving delicious food. We dined in, very friendly staff - quick service & some of the best fish and chips we’ve eaten. The children enjoyed their meals, as did we.

Emma's Diner is a vibrant American-style eatery in Whitby, offering a 1950s vibe with booth seating. The menu features generous portions of breakfast items, burgers, and indulgent milkshakes. Despite some slow service, the staff are described as helpful and polite. The diner's atmosphere is upbeat and welcoming, making it a great spot for families.
What an amazing place in the heart of Whitby. Portions are so generous, enough to share. Chicken was juicy and so tasty. Dips are very flavourful. Burger was crispy, tasty and huge! (5 pieces of chicken in 1 burger!). Staff are so friendly and helpful. They are all dressed in 50’s attire. Such good value for money. £40 for 2 big meals and drinks (1 pot of tea was enough for 2!) We will definitely be back the next time we are in Whitby.

Have walked past this diner many times, as it is en-route to where we have to collect our holiday-let keys from. This time we made sure to come and have a meal and so glad we did. It was busy (around 7.30 Sat eve), but we were seated quickly. All the staff we encountered were lovely, the decor is fabulous and there is a genuine jukebox playing (just at the right level that you can still have a conversation). My partner had porky parmo and is still raving about it a week later. I had classic hotdog and sweet potato fries, both were just LUSH. We also had cocktails which were amazing, so much so, my partner had two! Portions were very large and we felt very good value. You do have to wait a little while for your food and drinks but we didn't think this was overly long and it's clearly because everything is freshly made to order. As we didn't have room for desserts we returned the next afternoon and had a mega milkshake and a sundae. These were also fantastic and the staff once again were very welcoming. All in all, highly recommended, we will most definitely return on our next visit to the area. 5*

This was the highlight of our trip to Whitby. The setting was amazing really stylish. The burger fries were lovely and the cocktail was spot on. Couldn’t resist getting a dessert and the cookie was just as good.

We went and got a table straight away. We had a 40 minute wait till our food arrived. We were fairly happy with the food. We did feel the uniforms could have been washed on a regular Basis. Overall it is worth a visit

Food was amazing, milkshake was like a dessert on its own! Atmosphere and decor was great, there was also a jukebox! Toilets weren’t the cleanest (men’s mess) And we had to wait a while for food. But the place was packed, so can kinda forgive it. Would definitely recommend.

Craving a burger while in Whitby we decided to eat at Emma's Diner and I am oh so glad we did. The drinks were great. The burgers and fries were amazing. Everything about the burgers tasted good, seasoned well, juicy and cooked to perfection. We were planning on having a desert but the portion sizes and great taste changed our plan. The staff were very friendly and seated us immediately. The aesthetic of the diner was great, classic American decor and music.

Nestled in the charming streets of Whitby, Al Taco is a delightful family-run Tex Mex restaurant that brings the vibrant flavors of Mexico to life. This cozy eatery features just a handful of tables, creating an intimate atmosphere where friendly staff make you feel right at home. While it’s advisable to book ahead, many guests have found success simply walking in and snagging a table.
Wonderful food! The smells coming from the open kitchen was amazing. The host was happy to chat away about her life and how she just loves to feed people. What a sweetheart! Both hot and mild tastes catered for. 10/10

Lovely dining experience, home cooked and colourful and vibrant. We had the trio of tacos, chicken quesadilla and home cooked chips. Lovely food. I definitely recommend if you are in Whitby and fed up of the usual fish and chips and fancy something different.

Al Taco is a hidden gem of an eatery, we tried the chicken quesadilla, burrito and nachos, they were loaded and all the ingredients were fresh. The staff are friendly, warm and welcoming and nothing is too much. It is well worth a visit when you are in Whitby.

This is a real hidden gem amongst whitby many other restaurants. Two friends and I came here looking for an option that my celiac friend could eat and the lovely ladies were more than happy to accommodate her. We had the chicken and pulled beef burritos which were stunning. Fresh and seasoned just right. The celiac friend had a naked burrito bowl which was also top notch. 10/10 for a place to nip into and eat

Absolutely incredible food. Fresh and really tasty served by lovely friendly staff. Big recommend. They made anything we wanted vegan too!
Jack M — Google review
Despite the name this is most definitely not an authentic Mexican. Never had a burrito with lettuce and the option of bbq or garlic sauce! The food was pretty bland and cold. We were really disappointed as we had read such great reviews about this place! Not sure what happened. Based of our experience we would not eat here again, nor recommend this place.

We were looking for somewhere to eat and found this place about 45mins before closing and thought we would give it a try. What a surprise, run by 2 lovely ladies, the food was excellent, if your going for a proper meal its a BYO place, corkage is very reasonable, but worth a visit.

The Windmill Inn, located in the charming village of Stainsace near Whitby, is a family-run inn offering an intimate and relaxing stay at the edge of North Yorkshire Moors National Park. With just three letting rooms and four shepherd huts, it provides a quaint accommodation experience. The inn features a beer garden with a children's play area, making it suitable for families.
Nice clean, cosy room with everything we needed. Lovely bathroom. Despite staying on a Friday night, we didn't encounter any noise to disturb us. The staff were friendly & helpful. Breakfast was lovely - generous portions of good quality produce, & happy to cook to our preference. Lovely little stopover on our trip, at a reasonable price.
Albion 2 — Google review
We stayed in one of their "Shepherds huts" for a couple of nights. The toilets and showers are close by, and shared. That was the only down side. I did notice drains and water were in place for a future upgrade, and this would significantly improve the already comfortable accommodation. The food was really good. The breakfast was top notch, made with locally sourced food. The pub itself had a nice vibe, with a mixture very friendly local people, and overnight guests. There was a good selection of beers, ciders, and lagers. The staff were busily going about their duties, but available when needed. There is a cinder path close by that leads in to Whitby, and if you're fit enough, it's about a 40 minute walk. I liked the place and would stay again. Thanks for a pleasant weekend.

Went for Sunday lunch and a few drinks. Veg was more than enough for 3. Best carrots I've had, fresh and lovely. Lots of meat(I got one of each) Beef,Pork and Chicken) all cooked to perfection. Yorkie was massive. Mash and roast potatoes on point with plenty of gravy.
Micky W — Google review
The windmill pub is actually a nice country pub but their shepherds cot accommodation is very poor and not at all worth the price. It is very misleading in the description given. There are 4 cots in a secluded area behind the pub, each with a picnic table. However the bed and sofa bed are poor quality, extremely low and VERY uncomfortable. There is no privacy for changing etc and one toilet and one shower between all 4 cots..... absolutely intolerable. Neither were very clean and the only sink is in the toilet cistern. Imagine cleaning your teeth in that. Especially as you are sharing with complete strangers. The breakfast was nice, with a reasonable choice. However, although staff are polite, they are not particularly welcoming. There is no way I could recommend staying here unless the owners have plans to substantially improve what they offer.

Lovely pub, dog friendly. Serves great Sunday lunches. Good beer. Midweek meals are also excellent. Good walks along the cinder track across the old railway viaduct to Whitby. Bungy jumping from the viaduct on some weekends. You can walk or cycle in the opposite direction to Scarborough which is about 25 miles away.

Great stay, wonderful team working efficiently to create an inclusive pub atmosphere. Great banter with the locals, food looked amazing especially the Sunday lunches. We stayed Sunday evening, room was clean and cosy and we had a great night sleep. Breakfast was lovely, great choice, charming little restaurant area and beautifully cooked. Would certainly stay agsin. ☺️

We booked and paid for this in Australia. Had our confirmation numbers and receipt. Got there to be told they did not receive payment or our name. Had to pay again, but only space left was a small gypsy wagon cabin out back. Had to use toilet behind the Inn overnight. Can only sort out payment truth back in Australia. Staff were great. Food was great.

We didn't stay over. We went for a meal celebrating my partners birthday. Babs had one of the chicken dishes and I had sea bass (which was the best I've ever eaten). The service was great, the food amazing and the beer was tasty, I also had a sweet which was delicious too. Although I didn't have the one I wanted as it was sold out. Nevertheless I would recommend this place to anyone, and I'm sure we'll be back the next time we holiday in Whitby.

4 of us had an evening meal. We had an excellent table. Our well behaved German shepherd was with us. Our staff were very accommodating. Our food was excellent. A successful evening. Thank you. Well return when next in Whitby 🥂
Helen H — Google review
We came on our first Saturday evening in Whitby. This pub was to be our local for a week. The pub is in a stunning location with amazing views, but that's the only positive thing to say about this place. The food was very mediocre and forgettable. The service was terrible. The staff really were not interested and appeared to not want to be there. We asked for some glasses for the wine. Three times. After 15 minutes we gave up and had to get them ourselves from the bar. And heaven forbid if you want some serviettes. After asking several times, we eventually had to go into the pub to get some - the waitress rolled her eyes and reluctantly got some out from a cupboard. If you visit, stay for just one drink and admire the views. But I wouldn't recommend ordering anything that may need some customer service.

Sunday dinner wasn't very good roast beef was Boiled beef and watery the veg was a small turine for 4 adults portions altogether were poor. However, the public bar and gardens are lovely and we've had bar meals before and been really happy with them . They're well presented and tasty but I wouldn't recommend Sunday lunch

Nestled just a short stroll from the harbor, Alexanders Fish Restaurant is the perfect spot for those craving classic fish and chips while soaking in the beach atmosphere. This charming eatery offers a variety of made-to-order dishes, including burgers, nachos, and fajitas with options like steak, chicken, or prawn. On cooler days or drizzly afternoons, guests can enjoy their meals indoors in a cozy setting.
My favourite place to eat when I visit Whitby, the staff are friendly and offer an excellent table service where you do not have long to wait for your meal. A top rated fish restaurant at a very reasonable price for your meal not to be missed.
Rebecca ( — Google review
I visited this fish n chip shop on a cold December day, well out of season. Needless to say it wasn't busy. I had a large cod 'n chips, curry sauce with scraps and two slices of bread. (Of course I made a chip butty, and delicious it was too.) One curry sauce pot could be shared by two easily, the fish was excellent and there was a good portion of nice chips. All in all, very happy with the place. The only negatives are most of the seating is well inside and down some steps, so getting a table with a view would be unlikely, particularly I imagine when its busy. There are lots of tables that seat 4 people. The loos are down in the basement, didn't notice any disabled facilities on the ground floor.

This basic fish and chip restaurant gives good value for money. We were served quickly by young, friendly staff and the food arrived quickly. Meal prices include a drink and bread and butter. The haddock and chips were delicious. The restaurant looked clean and fresh. Be aware space can be tight for four adults sitting at a table for four as tables are close together.

Fantastic fish and chips just a few metres away from the harbour.. Only downside is the tables are on the small side if there's more than 2 of you. Also only take cash payments. But like I said the food is amazing.

Russells Traditional Fish & Chips is a great place to get some tasty fish and chips. It's located right by the harbour and has friendly staff who are happy to help. The portions are big, and the prices are reasonable.
Spot on ! ... over the years we have tried many of the chippys in Whitby.. however.. we now only use Russell's as default.. they are very proud of their shop and constantly cleaning as customers leave... there are no others to touch them in our opinion.. See you next year Russell's... Dave and Jill 😊

The dining area and toilet is very clean and welcoming. It's just a shame that the food provided was of such a low standard. The chip portion was abysmal for £2.40, and their condiments are not easily distinguishable. The chips themselves were average tasting, and weren't anything special. The staff was nothing but miserable and customer service was non existing. No cutlery and if you want to use a knife and fork you've got to pay. Will not be coming back.

BEST CURRY SAUCE EVER!!! We honestly really enjoyed the experience of eating from Russell's. Glad we chose this place for our fish and chips at Whitby. Really friendly staff, all-round enjoyable experience. My boyfriend said the fish is really good. They even let you put your own salt and vinegar on.

This is by far the best fish and chips shop in Whitby and doesn't cost a fortune either. We came to. Whitby for a week and ate here every day. A Guinness and chippy holiday which was amazing. Would definitely recommend to eat here. Staff were great to, extremely friendly
Nancie G — Google review
I’ve been to a lot of bad fish and chip shops in my time - I’m sad to say that this is one of them. The fish is mushy and the batter tastes like oil, not to mention it is served still soaking in oil. The chips are passable at best, and even then my friend ordered a portion of just chips only to receive an amount that wouldn’t fill a packet of wotsits. The mushy peas are extremely bland and watery, not to mention having barely any colour. I came to this fish and chip shop hungry and I left hungry. On top of all this, if you’re opting for a dine-in experience, you’re offered no plate for your food, and the same wooden forks offered to those who opt to takeaway, there is also no cutlery present on the tables. Extremely disappointed.
Joseph D — Google review
My experience at this establishment was atrocious. Whenever I go to whitby I try to go to a different chippy each time to find my new favorite and I call tell you this chippy is easily my least favourite, mostly due to the service but that doesn't mean that the food was it's saving grace at all. Upon entering the chippy (which is not called Russell's, it is now Angels) I was met with the most unwelcoming and miserable woman ive has the mispleasure of being served by. I asked for my group of 5 if we were OK to sit in as it was in the evening and didn't know if they were due to shut soon. Although she confirmed it was ok the chew was not appropriate or called for, upon me and my friends ordering our food we were spoken to with attitude and I was ignored when asked for tarte sauce. Upon collection my food was under someone else's name? And I wasn't offered scraps like you usually would expect? Thankfully this was my last experience with any of the staff. The food portions were fair, I got a cod and chips with gravy which tasted ok, not much flavour in either area, the fish was supposed to be the star of the show but despite efforts with cooking to order the fish was still super soggy and mushy, pretty flavourless unless you add salt and vinegar. The chips were cooked nicely but still lacked a lot- I don't even want to comment on the gravy. Overall, I will not be returning and there is room for major improvement with this restaurant.
