Cary Arms & Spa is a charming beachfront inn with a rich history, having been visited by Queen Victoria. The stone inn is adorned with vintage nautical decor and offers stunning views of Babbacombe beach and the English Riviera. Accommodation options include rooms in the main inn, beach suites, beach huts, and self-catering cottages.
What kind and beautiful staff! Stopped in for a hot chocolate on a lovely sunny day. The Terrace has beautiful views across Babbacombe and it was just a lovely experience. The staff were wonderful - there was nothing they wouldn't do - and they were smiley and kind. Lovely food, lovely place, lovely people. Thank you! (Super shout out to Kane, who was our main member of cheerful staff - thank you!)

We booked a mini-honeymoon at the Cary Arms in one of their beach huts. The beach hut was amazing, with fabulous sea views. All the staff were helpful and friendly, especially Olivia. Breakfasts were brilliant with amazing quality food. The only (minor) criticism is that the coffee could be slightly better. We ate in the restaurant twice, and both times the food and the service were excellent. We used the spa twice, once for a general relax, and once for a massage - Rachel was great in the spa. The valet parking worked really well. There is a fairly steep hill to walk up to get into town, but that’s the price of the brilliant views (plus, it helped walk off some of our calories from the excellent food) My partner even saw Sammy the seal when she went for a swim in the sea. Overall, we had a brilliant time and would certainly come back. Recommended!

Beautiful views, dreadful road in and out. No free parking. Food fresh and made on the premises. I had a vegetarian pasta dish which was nice but seemed overpriced at over £20. Service was excellent, attentive without being obtrusive and the staff were delightful.
Julie S — Google review
We stopped for lunch, it was ok, nothing special. Soup is very unspectacular with one minimal piece of of thin bread, it was just all about underwhelming. Great views and lovely area, nice to stop here for a drink. Service was very strange, served by three different people, could’ve been better.

Disappointed. We booked a table for a family special lunch but were so disappointed at the menu choice. I’m vegetarian and don’t enjoy pasta ( the single vegetarian choice) so had to have a cheese sandwich. Not what I’d expect for a hotel with this reputation. The table was sticky, the service slow, and the bill was expensive- not worth it frankly. I understand this place is currently for sale- I can see why. Disappointing.

We were lucky enough to receive a gift voucher for a meal, which I have to say was truly delicious. The fish was so fresh you could taste the ocean! The service was friendly yet professional and added to a fantastic afternoon.

2 Night stay Excellent staff very friendly and helpful. Stayed in a Beach hut with excellent views and comfy bed very warm and clean. Breakfast has excellent choice, eggs cooked perfectly. Receptionist was very helpful throughout our stay. Had excellent massage in Spa .Many thanks to the team

From beginning to end of our break for our Ruby Wedding Anniversary we were made to feel so welcome and special by everyone at The Cary Arms We found our beach hut to be so comfortable and the views were memorable The housekeeping team were so friendly and accommodating as were the rest of the hotel team especially Linda who made a lovely start to our days A special mention must also go to techy Harry for going above and beyond to sort out issues with our car We thoroughly enjoyed all of the meals eaten in the restaurant and we loved the treats and drinks in the beach hut We will be back again soon and we are treating our niece to a mini honeymoon with you next year

Lympstone Manor is a luxurious high-end hotel located in a restored Grade II listed Georgian manor house, offering chic rooms and suites with estuary views. Owned by renowned chef Michael Caines, the hotel boasts an elegant restaurant and bar that has been awarded one Michelin star. The property is set within 28 acres of gardens overlooking the Exe Estuary, providing guests with opportunities to explore the vineyard or indulge in afternoon tea.
Me and my Husband ( and the dog ) came here for lunch to celebrate our anniversary. We ate at the pool house restaurant so we could bring our dog and it was great service from the moment we arrived. The grounds and hotel are stunning. We walked through the main building and it’s beautiful. The walk down to the pool house has amazing views of the vineyard. The restaurant was lovely and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent as were the drinks. We will definitely be back. Couldn’t recommend it enough. We walked through the vineyard which was lovely and got to see all the grapes ! Thank you for making our visit one to remember !

Stunning grounds, can not fault that. Service by the pool - atrocious!!! Waited 30 mins for a towel and a waiter for a drink… never appeared, so we went up to main bar and had great service and great drinks there. The room was tiny considering it was a superior… I think we were unlucky and got the smallest room out of the category as we asked to change and couldn’t. The food was average considering we are in the fine dining restaurant and had the 4 course meal for £200pp. Wouldn’t eat there again, was just disappointing and a bit tasteless. The best bit about the food was the bread 🫣 Breakfast finished at 10am (on a Sunday…!) we got there at 9:45 and waited 30 minutes to be sat…. Just not good enough for the money you pay to stay there… Wouldn’t stay there again. Has so much potential but just not sharp enough.

The best afternoon tea we have ever had. Food was delicious and superb quality, even changed the sandwiches to suit our taste. Staff were polite, efficient and attentive but not too much. Were served in the lounge which was comfortable and cosy. Wonderful views over the Exe estuary. Will definitely visit again.

We loved every minute of the experience. Sitting outside on the lawn drinking the delicious aperitifs and canapés, looking out over the fantastic view of the grounds and the river couldn't be better. The attention to detail by all of the staff was superb and the various courses were a constant treat to our taste buds. Sadly, the price means we would only be able to return for extra special occasions.

This just and only just got a 2 star more on the location although that's ok there are plenty that can equal or better it. Upon arrival for our £160 champagne afternoon tea we were greeted by very pleasant staff who checked our names and booking and we were then shown to our table. One of six in the room , nobody else was there so we did get to face the garden / view , pity anybody who gets to face the back wall ! After seating we were given a drinks menu and any allergies were double checked.. Our drinks arrived ( no champagne) and after a short while the sandwiches and cakes etc were bought to the table, each sandwich and cake was given a name and explanation of its content and flavour. After a short time a member of staff came to see if we were ok. It was at this point over 30 minutes after seating I had to ask for the champagne ? Shouldn't have to ask ! Following the arrival of said champagne ( £30 a glass by the way ) we never saw another member of staff. For £160 I expected to be asked if I would like another sandwich or a least a second cup of coffee!! Very disappointed at the fact we had to ask for the champagne and wasn't asked if we wanted a second drink ( one cup of coffee & one small pot of tea !!!!!!) No staff came near but plenty milling around when we left. Will not return and I strongly advise others to check out alternatives for price and service. Very poor.

An amazing hotel. Everything about it is right. The location overlooking the estuary is splendid. The building is lovely, but updated to the highest standards. The gardens are lovely and the rooms are super comfortable. We ate at the pool house complex for dinner. The pool house is a modern complex that is very well designed and very well positioned. Sitting by the huge windows, basking in the late evening sun, looking out over the estuary was a sublime experience. I particularly enjoyed the sushi and sashimi which was very good. The burger was a very good take on the ubiquitous classic. The pool house restaurant is an alternative to the well rated tasting menu in the main house. We decided we wanted something slightly less grand. The pool house food was well thought out and very well executed. It is very special drinking wines from the vineyard whilst looking out over it in the UK. The sparkling was particularly nice. I also enjoyed the rose but that was more unusual. The hotel is very well staffed and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. A particular thanks to Josh who looked after us in the restaurant. I feel the service balance was about right, avoiding the problem of over attentive staff that is often an issue. The bed room was very comfortable. The reception phoned us before we came asking for our preferences, which was a lovely touch. They managed to find some super slim pillows for us. That added the finishing touches to the super comfortable bed. We had a large balcony looking over the sea and could enjoy an early evening drink with the complimentary gin and tonic. The breakfast was very well executed and avoided the over sized buffet. I particularly enjoyed the Loch Fyne kipper. A real treat these days. I could go on. The tennis court looked great. The pool was lovely and quite warm. There were bicycles. We will be back. This is the best hotel we have found in the UK. A big thank you to the team who made our stay so special.

Thank you to everyone we met at LM for our special lunch! Too many names to mention in thanks! What a totally fabulous experience and a thank you to Jordan for the little tour of the kitchen at the end of service! Thank you from us both!

I stayed at the Lympstone Manor on Monday evening (14th July 2025) on business. I was blown away with the quality of the rooms and more importantly, the level of service. My needs were catered for and my requests were fulfilled in the most professional way. The breakfast was superb, the best tasting coffee, croissants and fruits I have ever had. Mix these with stunning views of the compound and the sea. The quality in all aspects does justify the high price, great value for money. Excellent service, coupled with excellent quality food and accommodation will attract great quality guests! If you are visiting Exmouth, staying at this hotel is a must or at least to try its Michelin star restaurants. You will not regret it. Bring your family as well. Hasan

Burgh Island Hotel is a luxurious art deco hotel located on a private island with a rich history, attracting famous patrons like Agatha Christie and Noel Coward. The vintage landmark building exudes the glamour of 1930s ocean liners and features original pieces from that era. Despite its secluded feel, there are plenty of activities to enjoy both on land and water, including formal dining experiences.
Cream tea afternoon. The staff were so professional and friendly. The art deco hotel and grounds are absolutely beautiful and very well kept. The decor is devine. We were quite disappointed that upon booking, we weren't made aware that we could use the hotel facilities, as we would have taken swimwear to enjoy the hot weather and a dip in the Mermaid Pool. We only found out as we were leaving and asked if we could play croquet. We were then told that we could use all the facilities for the afternoon as guests. :-( A tad underwhelmed with the cream tea also, as we had expected light cakes such as mini Victoria sandwich and éclairs etc. rather than heavier sponges with Nut spread. Saying that the sandwiches and scones were nice, the waiter was superb and the ambience was perfect.

Have just come back from a delightful weekend on the island. The hotel is idyllic, every single member of staff from the tractor guys to the receptionists, the waiters and especially Vlad make you feel so incredibly welcome and special. The hotel is very unique and there are lots of cruise ship style services like luggage taken to rooms and rooms turned down at night that make it even better. The food was incredible as were the cocktails and wines. We really really enjoyed it and definitely want to return. Chris & Amy

Sue and I have just returned from Burgh Island after celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, after 9 nine years together Sue decided to propose to me with a dead rose! (long story). Anyway we have had the most wonderful escape on the island. We were lucky enough to have three nights of luxury, and to be honest we could not fault anything, the staff were all so polite, helpful and fun they could not do enough for us. The food was really good, certainly quality over quantity, I’m not saying the portion sizes were small they were not. As for the decor everything was in the style of the 20’s and thirties, think art-deco everything and you will get the idea. Was this a cheap break no, was it worth every penny, yes. Will we be going back…..you bet If you love the style of the 1920’s and 30’s you will love this hotel and it’s setting. We highly recommend Burgh Island.

A simply superb place to take your other half to celebrate anything. Food and drink was great, really historic hotel full of character. Faultless service. We had the evening meal in the ballroom, with a different wine with each course. Simply superb. The trio - a singer, piano player and guitarist, were perfect, great ambiance. Expensive stay, but worth every penny.

An amazing hotel providing a unique experience. We had a most fantastic time. They made our arrival special. Dinner in the Ballroom was fabulous. The hotel is a great place to relax. Nice weather enhanced our stay.

We’ve stayed at this hotel on a few occasions now, all on special occasions. My review can’t begin to explain how unbelievable this hotel is. If bucket lists were compulsory I would insist this hotel was on everyone’s list. From the minute we arrived and were greeted by the driver taking us across the beach, we instantly left behind the stresses of daily life. The rooms are all individually designed, with each room having a different view of the sea. We pushed the boat out and stay in the beach house (but I do know that all of the rooms are amazing) Honestly, who needs a tv when you have views like these. The food is served with such passion and in itself an experience. Then there is the bar, serving the most delicious cocktails, I can just imagine all the amazing people that have stayed here previously sitting where I am now. They’re thinking just the same thing as me. This place is something else. It’s weird, you want to tell people how unbelievable this place is yet you don’t want to at the same time. We want to keep it just for ourselves. Stay there! you’ll see what i mean. Thank you Burgh island for creating our special place.

Wonderfully restored art deco building with impressively trained staff. Food excellent. Arrangements for access according to tides somewhat shambolic be prepared for long waits (although the courtesy car for those with limited mobility when available is great)
Lindsey B — Google review
Food was great , but waiting 45 mins to get a drink to the table I found unacceptable, and then not having the table cleared, and having to go and find someone to get the bill ? For £110 for an afternoon tea, I would expect a better service , and when we asked to speak to the manager, we were told they were busy serving someone else, and then no-one showed up before we left. So yes, food was great, but the service was shocking, sorry , but it was .

Nestled by a picturesque cove, the Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa is a stylish seaside retreat just outside Salcombe. This charming resort sits on South Sands Beach, renowned for its thrilling water sports. Guests can dive into activities like kayaking, sailing, and even stand-up paddleboarding yoga while local staff share their favorite coastal walks. The hotel boasts a seafood-centric restaurant with an inviting wraparound terrace perfect for alfresco dining against stunning sea views.
Wow, wow, wow! We have just come back from a one night stay and we wish we booked for longer. Such a stunning hotel in the most breathtaking location. It felt like we were abroad. The staff were so lovely and welcoming, the room was modern and overlooked the sea (which was beautiful). We stayed for my Husbands birthday and they left a birthday card & chocolates for him which was so kind. Food was delicious! Such a great choice of food & drinks which we enjoyed whilst looking over the sea in the evening and for breakfast. Spa facilities are lovely, they even allow you to use them before check in if you wanted to. Everything was so clean, tidy and modern with a beach/abroad vibe. We had the best time and will 100% be coming back soon. Thank you so much Harbour Beach Club!

✅ - Room was very nice, always clean with the cleaners coming everyday. - Shower with good pressure. - Shuttle bus was helpful ❌ - Service was quite slow. You would ask for one thing, someone else would ask if you wanted something, and then it never came until you chased it. - Breakfast was disappointing. Buffet was tasty but limited. Had to pay £10 for a hot breakfast. The photo provided was £10? Personally, I would expect them to produce a bit more? Like some avocado or tomatoes. Seems like I wasn’t getting bang for my buck there. Gym was 18+ which I did not really understand as 16+ is most common.

I have experienced the restaurant on Saturday night after my arrival to the hotel. Very nice and very vibrant atmosphere with a beautiful interior design which reflect the rest of the hotel and the area. The food was great and tasty, typical food but with a little twist made by the chefs. The entire staff was very professional and attentive during the entire service lead by a Romanian manager which was very helpful during the entire experience. Highly recommended. On another note I would like to mention that the rest of the team was very helpful and professional starting from the front desk, spa and house keeping team. Best, Edo

We really enjoyed our stay at Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa. Our family room was very comfortable and beautifully decorated, with a stunning view of the beach. The restaurant was good, and the facilities were great. The biggest plus is the location — right opposite the beach and with the ferry to Salcombe town center, so we never needed to use the car. Truly fantastic!

Disappointing stay at the harbour hotel. Having stayed next door in an apartment for the past few days, we were looking forward to staying in a ‘luxury’ spa hotel. Moving from the spacious apartment to the small double rooms felt like a big downgrade, but the price we were paying was almost double. Service from staff felt slap dash and we felt like an afterthought, from the moment we checked in. One of our rooms had a serious drain issue, so bad that you couldn’t use it to even brush your teeth. We were told that it was too late at night to do anything, and so we would have to sleep in the room as it is. In the morning, we had to chase the issue as no one had communicated that anything was being done. We were moved rooms in the morning, but there was no offer of compensation or even an apology. This issue led to us complaining to the manager. This is where we realised the issue. His whole attitude felt wrong, and his empathy was lacking at best. We negotiated a discount on our stay, but I don’t feel like we should have had to be that demanding in order to feel like we were being fairly compensated. As a side note, we were asked before check in if we were celebrating anything. I told the hotel we were, which was clearly forgotten. When I brought this issue to the manager, he insisted there should have been a note in our room, which there wasn’t, and nothing further was done to rectify the issue. Breakfast is average for the price, and as many others have stated, the service in the restaurant generally feels chaotic and there is no personal touch from any of the staff. You also have to pay extra for any hot food. Overall I feel the value for money is seriously lacking. If I was paying half the price that is asked, I wouldn’t complain. But from a luxury hotel, the service is not up to standard. My advice would be to save your money and go somewhere else. On a positive note, the location of the hotel is fantastic, and the spa is lovely. Unfortunately that’s where my praises run out.
Olivia H — Google review
Fantastic location. Big bed and room looking out to sea. Food was excellent and varied. Pool 15m Gym was better equipped than most hotels. Safe sea swimming and coastal walks. Salcombe is just over 2k up and down. Hotel supplies a free shuttle and a ferry operates from the beach.
Martyn S — Google review
Beautiful surroundings, but the experience didn’t live up to expectations. The spa area was the highlight of our stay — peaceful, tranquil, and a perfect place to relax. The bar area was lovely too, and the view from the restaurant was truly picturesque. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. Attention to detail was poor — no steak knives were provided despite ordering steaks, and the quality of the steak made it difficult to eat with a regular knife. I ordered a vegetarian breakfast (meant to be vegan) and was asked how I would like my eggs cooked, even though eggs weren't part of the meal. Worse still, the breakfast never arrived, although the waiter apologised when it was flagged. While the staff were polite and tried their best, the service overall felt chaotic, with multiple servers attending our table and overlapping on drink orders. Some guests in our group were also forgotten when it came to dessert orders, leading to long delays and added frustration. The vegan food options were disappointing — the katsu curry, in particular, was bland and lacked flavour, and overall the variety of options was quite limited. Another frustration was that while a complimentary gin was offered, guests were charged for the tonic water to go with it — something that was previously included for free. Small things like this leave a negative impression. Having previously stayed at their sister hotel in the centre of Salcombe, which felt much more professional and polished, this experience fell short by comparison. Despite the beautiful surroundings, the overall experience didn’t meet expectations, especially given the premium setting. I would not book to stay here again unless significant improvements are made to the service, and to the quality and variety of the food.

Hotel is great with pool and gym, the menu is fine if you like chips. The downside is the nearest station to salcombe isTotnes couldn't get a cab. Return cab to Totnes is 60/70 pounds as the courtesy bus wouldn't take us to the bus station in salcombe slightly put dampers on holiday

Gidleigh Park is a luxurious estate nestled in the picturesque Dartmoor National Park. The grand Tudor house is set amidst 107 acres of stunning gardens, offering an elegant and cozy retreat for guests. The rooms and suites are beautifully decorated with antique furnishings and offer a plush country-chic ambiance. Guests can enjoy activities such as lawn tennis, croquet, and exploring the mature grounds with bluebell-filled woods in spring.
First class 'old school' service in the most beautiful Devon setting. I haven't been to Gidleigh since 2010 and whilst it has not changed at all, it doesn't need to. The service is class winning throughout your stay and makes you feel as if you own the country estate and are being pampered to by your own trusted team. Food remains very good and the setting is Dartmoor at its best. Even my 6 year old rated it as 'epic'.

Amazing place to stay, location is beyond expectations. We really enjoyed out stay and will be back soon hopefully. As soon as you step out the door you can go on some amazing walks through the woods which we really enjoyed. Next time we will make sure to get a picnic.

We booked afternoon tea last Sunday and really enjoyed it. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by two lovely ladies who seated us and took our order. The waiter was also very knowledgeable and explained everything that was being served. The hotel is clean and tidy with a pleasant ambience. The only comment I would make is to ensure a clean cloth is used when polishing the glass on the table, as it had some smears. Apart from that, everything else was great.
Davidobi82 — Google review
My husband and I stayed at Gidleigh park for our anniversary, the attention to detail was second to none, they took our luggage upstairs as we arrived and the room was very inviting with chocolates, fruit and water already in there, they also brought up complementary room service for our anniversary. The room was spotless and the grounds were amazing, we played tennis and I sat and read my book outside with an amazing view! Very relaxing and peaceful!
Maddy C — Google review
My partner and I visited Gidleigh Park to celebrate my 50th birthday. I wanted to experience an exceptional evening with outstanding food …… a bucket list evening. I chose the regular three-course menu, while my partner, who is vegetarian, had the vegetarian option. Both were exceptional. The service was impeccable, with the staff providing a detailed explanation of each course. Even the bread and small appetisers which make it feel more like a five-course experience were delicious. The wine list is extensive but pricey, ranging from around £40 up to £1,500 a bottle! Unfortunately, it was a bit beyond our budget this time, however, I would have loved to enjoy a bottle or two with the meal. If you are reading this and fancy buying me a bottle please do! After dinner, we relaxed in the drawing room with a lovely coffee, and the team surprised me with a small birthday treat, as we’d mentioned it when we arrived (see photo). A quick heads-up: the drive to Gidleigh Park is quite winding, and there’s a very narrow bridge you’ll need to cross carefully — it’s only about 7ft wide, so it can feel tight if you’re driving an SUV, Land Rover, or a larger car. All in all a great night out! Well worth a visit! Treat yourself!
Matt V — Google review
We happened to pass this hotel during a long hike and were received very hospitably. What a pleasure to have a coffee and lunch on the terrace. They even offered to refill our water bottles with water, ice cubes and lemon. These small tokens of kindness show a great sense of care for the guests. We loved it.

Gara Rock is a charming seaside hotel located just outside Salcombe, offering a cozy retreat on a rugged peninsula along the South West Coast Path. The accommodation includes historic Admiralty cottages and modern self-catering houses, all designed with warm colors and antiques for a relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant and terrace provide stunning coastal views and serve delicious dishes featuring local ingredients like Salcombe eggs and kitchen garden radishes.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Gara Rock Hotel last week. Our standard 'Gara Rock' Room was outstanding - beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable, it had a sea-facing private balcony, and luxurious bathroom. We loved the little extra touches such as the fresh milk in the fridge. The rest of the hotel is just as impressive - a modern-luxe lounge and restaurant with a view over the bay, and the spa facilities are equally great. The food in the restaurant was of good quality, and the service for us was attentive, polite and efficient. We loved it, and will definitely be returning, it has become one of our favourite hotels.

Our stay at Gara Rock in under 3 floors Residence, was absolutely amazing! The attention to detail in every aspect of our visit was impressive. The team looking after us provided exceptional service, making us feel incredibly welcome. We were particularly impressed by how genuinely dog-friendly the resort is, with fantastic amenities like the restaurants, bar, and even special showers for pets. A top tip for future visitors: be sure to pack some sturdy shoes to take advantage of the wonderful walking opportunities in the area! Option 3 (Focus on Key Highlights)

We recently enjoyed a 5* stay at Gara Rock. The setting is magnificent and the hotel excellent in all respects. The balcony rooms offer beautiful views over the sea and the dramatic coastline. Above all, the staff are most welcoming and unfailingly cheerful; they grace this fine hotel. We look forward to returning!

Amazing location, great facilities. The food was excellent both breakfast and dinner. What made the stay so much more pleasurable was the incredible people who work here. Just so friendly and fun and accommodating, nothing too much trouble and always done with a smile. Given what we have witnessed in Europe on this stay this was a much needed and welcome change. Thanks to all for making it a memorable stay !

We had the most incredible stay here for our babymoon / wedding anniversary! Having wanted to stay for quite some time now, the hotel blew us away & exceeding all of our expectations. The staff were completely committed to ensuring we had a relaxing stay and are all so friendly. The reception staff were always warm and welcoming, the restaurant staff so smiley and accommodating (especially the Kiwis!) and the spa therapists, Matt & Sophie, were incredibly talented - we had the dreamiest massage & facial treatments. We loved the little touches; the pillow menu (including a pregnancy one!), the private cinema and the hotel arrival tour. The beach is so gorgeous and peaceful, and even I made it down and up the hill just fine (albeit a bit slower than my husband!). There’s coastal views everywhere you look, from each room and the stunning restaurant (with incredible food options and daily local caught fish specials). It was such a treat sitting on our balcony overlooking the sea and local sheepdog rounding up the cows in the fields every morning. 10/10 trip for us, thank you for making it so special & pregnant friendly!

We've spent 5 nights in one of the junior suites at the hotel. The suite is spacious and very tastefully decorated and it's got all you need. Although you could do with a bit more light in the bathroom and bedroom. For breakfast you can help yourself to a continental from the buffet which is great and again very extensive. We didn't try the cooked breakfast. Dinner (Bouillabaisse) had more than enough fish and shellfish in it and was well seasoned. What lets the service down however, is the fact that we asked for a table on our balcony and over the entire 5 days they weren't able to find and get one. You could simply take one from another suite that's checking out but for some reason that didn't seem possible. 0 points for checkout because the lady didn't even ask how our stay at Gara Rock has been.

Amazing location, car parking was a bit tricky and confusing. We went for a special lunch and could not fault the service or location. We ate inside and the food was well cooked, well presented and good quality, BUT the website suggetions that they champion local produce and that is clearly not the case as the lunch menu is full of Cornish & Somerset ingredients, but sadly lacking the magnificent produce available from Devon, especially South Devon!

Drove over last night for a relaxed beer at the end of a lovely weekend only to be turned away. Four staff sitting around chatting at the bar and the place is empty but not interested in selling us a drink. As locals we have visited the Gara Rock many times over the years and I would estimate that on half those occasions we have left without being served drinks or food. At some point you just stop going, I really wonder how they are still in business!

Bovey Castle is a luxurious hotel located in a former manor house on Dartmoor. The upscale amenities include fine dining, a spa, pool, and golf course. The estate offers traditional country activities like archery, falconry, and clay pigeon shooting. The 1906-built manor house exudes old-world charm with its elegant drawing rooms and high ceilings. Guests can enjoy contemporary rooms with stylish decor and modern comforts.
We were bought this break as a joint 50th birthday present. We had the 55 minute massage which was the best I've ever had, so relaxing and the aromatherapy oils were perfect. The pool is a nice size for a leisurely swim with a jacuzzi one end and steam room and sauna the other, with chairs to chill out on. Dinner was amazing, as was breakfast and if you've got kids, the chicken and ferret activity is brilliant. Archery finished our visit off. The room had been relaxing and quiet, but the best part of the whole trip was just how friendly and attentive all the staff were, from the reception to the pool attendants, to the food service staff.

Had a one night stay here earlier this week, we were advised to come b4 check in to use the pool and facilities, when we arrived the pool was closed was told it should reopen later that day. When it was time to check in we asked again and was told no it would reopen that day, we were bitterly disappointed that we could not use the pool etc as this would have been a big part of our trip. Feel the hotel could have called us and advised that the pool was closed and we could have rescheduled our visit. Have tried to email the hotel directly but not had an answer from Monday when I submitted my email. Such a shame that a special stay wedding anniversary was not as hoped

Went for afternoon tea absolutely wonderful. Staff welcoming, pleasent and helpful throughout. We sat in the lounge which was quieter than the restaurant only about 4 tables set up lovely setting. The afternoon tea was a gift and consisted of a selection of sandwiches, sausage rolls, cakes along with 2 types of scones with jam and cream and of course lots of tea of your choice. There was so much to eat one lovely member of staff did us a little box to take away what we couldn't manage! Overall fantastic thank you!.

We previously stayed at Bovey castle in the main building a few years ago and absolutely loved it. We are currently here again in a lodge this time but the whole experience is very different. Overall the place is lovely, the setting is beautiful and generally the staff are friendly but there have just been lots of small things that haven’t been enjoyable. Today we were told the kids zone for our two young kids cost £25 per day. This isn’t a manned facility, it’s a room for kids to play in under parent supervision. For a hotel to cater for families and kids, I have no idea why they charge for it and it was free when we previously stayed. The lodge is very different to the luxury room we stayed in before. It is spacious but feels a bit sparse and not luxurious or homely. The oven pan was disgusting and could do with a new frying pan and didn’t have basics like salt. I understand if they want us to eat in the restaurant but booking it for the times we wanted in the evenings we were told there were no spaces. My wife and eldest son wanted a round of golf with an instructor and left two messages at reception for the golf shop to contact her to arrange the pro, but neither message was passed on and it became too late to get an instructor. And the continental breakfast for £20 per person was disappointing. Overall I’d say it’s a lovely place for a romantic couples weekend or you are out an about the entire time but for young families it wouldn’t be my choice again.

We stayed at Bovey Castle on 20/09/2025 for our anniversary. While the grounds, spa, and front desk were lovely, our dinner was ruined by two restaurant staff. They made objectifying, sleazy comments about me, gave my partner dirty looks, and left me humiliated in front of him. One even smirked and said “good job,” implying I was a prize — completely unacceptable at a 5-star hotel. I’ve tried contacting the general manager privately, but received no response. What should have been a romantic evening instead left us embarrassed, uncomfortable, and deeply disappointed.

What a place, we got married here on Monday stayed there over night. The service and welcoming was something we have never experienced before. The food and drinks were on another level. The whole experience was some we shall never forget. We shall have to save to come back for our anniversary as the experience is just amazing. Top job to those involved. Thankyou for making our special day so special

Beautiful hotel. If you want luxury, then try this. Staff were all so attentive and friendly. A little remote but the splendour both inside and out more than made up for this. One could imagine Sherlock Holmes & Dr Watson staying here while they hunted the hound if the Baskervilles!

Boringdon Hall Hotel and Spa is a luxurious 16th-century manor house located on the outskirts of Dartmoor National Park, just a short drive from Plymouth. The hotel offers elegant rooms with historic interiors, flat-screen LCD TVs, and private bathrooms stocked with luxury toiletries. Guests can indulge in fine dining at the Michelin-starred Acleaf restaurant, which serves traditional British cuisine made from locally sourced ingredients.
Wow! We had the most incredible stay at Boringdon Hall for my boyfriend’s 24th birthday. From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. We were walked up to our room by a lovely member of staff and the team had even left a little bottle of gin in the room for him — which was such a thoughtful touch. We stayed in one of the Wellness Rooms, which was absolutely beautiful — so peaceful, spacious, and immaculately clean. The spa facilities are some of the best we’ve ever experienced! Every area of the property feels luxurious and so well cared for. The staff were genuinely outstanding — friendly, professional, and attentive without being intrusive. Nothing was too much trouble, and it’s clear that everyone there takes real pride in what they do. We couldn’t have been happier with our stay and are already planning to return. Thank you all so much for making our stay so special — you’re an absolute credit to the hotel!✨🤍

My partner and I came here for a night away. A good deal for mid-week dinner, bed, breakfast. Room: we got the budget version but found it comfortable, spacious, and the perfect temperature. Waters, milk, teas, coffees in the room all appreciated. Would be nice to have a little tea and coffee station on a table rather than hidden below the TV where there’s no plug. Quiet. Bed was wonderful. Generous toiletries provided. Spa: good selection of sauna rooms and nice pools. Sadly, far too many people for the space; no seats, and even at quiet times, queues formed for different areas. Seems to be a victim of its own success! Lots of others angry at this. Didn’t impact my experience too much. Dinner at the Brasserie was excellent and staff were mindful of dietaries (although the dessert menu doesn’t show any vegan options, we were offered delicious plant based brownie and ice cream). We ordered one glass of wine, one side of potatoes, and one G&T, and were surprised to find this cost us nearly £50 on check out. This was due to a service charge and VAT. Breakfast: tasty and varied. Service quite stretched e.g. amendments to the order were forgotten; we weren’t offered any toast, margarine, sauces, more tea/coffee etc. Was busy, so tricky to catch someone’s eye, but we did and they were helpful. Particular shout out to the reception team: a warm welcome, delicious drink on arrival, helpful when I had a request in the evening, and prompt posting of an item I left behind! Overall a nice place for a night away with some truly outstanding parts and some improvements to be made.

We stayed for the night at Boringdon in their courtyard rooms, whilst we knew when booking they are more on the budget side, you can certainly tell. We had dinner & breakfast in the brasserie including in our booking, however, it wasn't the best quality, it did the job, but don't go in expecting fine dining that is very much reserved for the more expensive restaurant on site. The staff were absolutely wonderful, everyone from management to waiting/ bar staff. They made you feel like you a member of the family staying in stately home. Special shout out to Alex the waiter who was genuinely one of the nicest waiters we've ever had.

I went for afternoon tea, which unfortunately didn’t meet my expectations, despite such good reviews and pictures online. We were seated at 13:25, but didn’t receive any food until 14:15. It was reasonably quiet when we got there, so I was surprised/frustrated it took so long. In terms of food, the sandwiches were decent, but very small portions. The scones were brilliant to be fair. The Halloween-themed sweet pastries were disappointing (very bland and had some odd textures), they did look cool though. Good range of teas to choose from. The servers were very polite, attentive, and explained the food nicely. Overall not an unpleasant experience, but considering it was £35pp you’d expect good quality food and timely service.

TLDR: Good but lacking in places. We went for the afternoon tea event, which was good. Took a while for food to come out, and some of the cakes were a bit weird. The rest was amazing. Service was good, very attentive and explained things nicely. The range of teas was fantastic. However, the place itself could do with some love. Tatty in places and the soap and hand lotion dispenser in the men's wasn't working. It feels like the money goes onto the spa and not the main hall.

We loved our stay in the wellness room. Very modern room, clean and all kind of products in the afternoon waiting for you from GAIA spa free of use during your stay. Very comfy bed and the shower has a great water pressure.

We stayed with family for the weekend for our wedding, and the staff were incredible from the moment we arrived until we sadly left to check out. If you are looking for a luxurious stay, then Boringdon Hall is the place for you. The food is incredible, the spa facilities are top notch & all of the staff are courteous and attentive. The historic background and beautiful setting is certainly matched by the experience offered, and we are all planning to go back soon to make use of their great spa weekend and activity offers, the murder mystery meals being a particularly appealing option.

Nestled on a hillside at the edge of Dartmoor National Park, Weeke Barton Hotel is a charming 500-year-old whitewashed longhouse that beautifully blends rustic charm with modern flair. This chic hideaway features plush rooms adorned with quirky decor, including retro items and contemporary art. Guests can enjoy breakfast, unwind in the cozy lounge by the fireplace, or sip drinks from the self-service bar.
We had the most amazing time staying at Weeke Barton! The hosts were so thoughtful and welcoming and the breakfasts were delicious. We also had the pie and apple crumble on Friday evening, which was incredible. The room was cosy and lovely, and the bed was super comfortable. It’s such a peaceful, stylish place to stay. They gave us some fantastic recommendations too- there’s a lovely vineyard nearby, plus loads of beautiful moor and coastal walks. Wish we had a few more days!

What a wonderful find! The owners were so friendly and accommodating, and the hotel, room, grounds and breakfast were gorgeous. There were so many nice little touches such as the honesty bar and you could also help yourself to milk/water whenever you need. We stayed in the Kota room, which was a perfect hide away, we loved the bath, wood burner and projector screen..the pictures don't do it justice. I cannot recommend this hotel enough and we will 100% be returning guests. It's great to see an independent hotel doing so well!

We had a lovely stay at Weeke Barton. The owners were particularly welcoming from the get go where we were given a tour and any questions we had answered. Our room was clean and our bed was incredibly comfy. Shower was powerful. We loved the little touches like the honesty bar, DVD library and text system for ordering breakfast - which was delicious. We stayed on a weekend with a big separate wedding party which did make it quite noisy at times through the doors/ walls as it is a proper house set up, but that is no fault of the owner. Would definitely recommend this lovely and quirky guest house to others.

Lovely site - the garden was ideal for lazing on a sunny day. The house is fascinating architecturally (like many old houses it's not so easy if you aren't fairly agile). Given that this isn't a cheap place to stay, I thought breakfast could have been more generous - perhaps another slice of toast/piece of bacon? Still, a warm welcome and good experience.

Weeke Barton was all we could wish for as we gathered to celebrate a big family birthday. Luxurious bedrooms set the tone, the dining room held us all as we toasted the birthday boy, the outside table was the venue for slow breakfasts and the bar was the place of choice for the older members to set the world to rights. All relaxed outside in the beautiful surroundings while young cousins relished the space to run and play.

Jo, Sam and lovely son Rory couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was delicious..my daughter particularly enjoyed her 'carnivore' full english. Beautiful setting and great honesty bar for ending the evening...great stay.

We stopped off at Weekes Barton on the way to South Cornwall from London. We arrived late at around 10pm but got a warm welcome from Sam. The most incredible sleep in ‘Henry’ was had that night, so much so I took notes of the mattress and bed linen. Breakfast was a hearty affair with an absolutely lovely Jo feeding us. Then a long picturesque walk through flowering wild garlic and bluebells worked some of it off. Our dogs were welcomed even if they aren’t the best behaved ! My only complaint is I wish we could have stayed longer, rather than using as just a resting place on the way to our final destination. We will be back.

We have just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay . Amazing views from our room, extremely comfy bed, fantastic food & a beautiful hotel. It is pricey but you get what you pay for. But by far the best thing about this hotel is the staff. Each and every member of staff is attentive, professional but also friendly and approachable. We will return as soon as possible.

Undoubtedly a superb location. Maybe we had an "off day", but the room we booked was not the room allocated to us. Restaurant was fully booked, again fine, but other hotels would inform you ahead of time. For the price we were expected to pay, this is not good value and we didn't end up staying there. Service we experienced was not good.

We came for a celebratory afternoon tea and the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable day. The views from our location were also amazing and made it all the worthwhile as well. Would definitely consider staying a night or two based on our experience today.

We stay here 3-4 times a year and have done so for the past 8 years. We have just returned from our third stay this year alone. The hotel has undergone substantial refurbishment over the winter with new carpets, furnishings etc and is always spotlessly clean. Ania, Helen and Francesca are the friendly and efficient reception team who will do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. The impeccable Teresa and Lûdek in the bar and restaurant continue to provide 5-star service. It is expensive, some items crazily so, but if the weather is good, you won't find a better location in the UK.

Great location — but that’s about it. If you fancy spending a lot of money to feel like you’re staying in a care home prematurely, this is the place for you. The room was average at best — I’ve stayed in better budget hotels. Ours didn’t even have a window, which was very different to how it was advertised. Check-in was frustratingly late at 4pm, and none of the rooms were ready until then. The staff were odd and quite dismissive, creating an awkward atmosphere — apart from the lovely lady on reception on the morning of the 29th. She was the nicest part of the whole experience. The indoor pool is also very run down and absolutely freezing! Wouldn’t recommend.
Rebekah H — Google review
This is an incredible hotel and we had an almost perfect stay. The terrace room next to the restaurant was very special with stunning sea views, very clean and comfortable. The breakfast and evening meals were delicious and the staff were kind, friendly and accommodating and really made the experience very special and went above and beyond our expectations. When they heard from us that the meal on our first evening had been disrupted by something which was no fault of the actual team themselves whatsoever they were extremely kind and very responsive to our feedback. It was clear everyone works very very hard, seem to take pride in their work and I hope they know how lovely they are! We had a few really nice chats and it didn't feel too forced or like it was a massive chore. The waiting staff, reception staff and everyone we talked to were polite, genuine and caring. The outdoor seaview pool was one of the highlights of the experience and we were really surprised how peaceful and quiet it is despite being just round the corner from Woolacombe. There are beautiful walks right on the doorstep and even in the middle of the summer holidays we found a secluded cove to relax in. The indoor spa facility was also tranquil and we had an awesome afternoon tea on the terrace too. Massive compliments to the chef for all the food we were lucky enough to eat during our stay. Thank you also for offering me other options as a vegetarian that was much appreciated. The atmosphere in the hotel was informal and relaxed despite it being luxurious and well appointed. Also I have to say as a parent of young children having some child free time I really appreciated that the families who were guests at the same time as us as they were particularly considerate and sweet. They seemed to also be having a lovely relaxed and peaceful holiday.enjoying everything the hotel and surrounding area have to offer. Thank you very much to the whole team who work in the day to day running of the hotel for making us feel so welcome. You're doing a fantastic job and I hope you have a good rest of the season.

Thank you for reply. First of all you are missing the point, I hope your policies do not state to be rude to customers. At one stage you staff said this conversation is over, who talks to their customers that way. You also say you were busy maybe that is the case, but the restaurant was very empty. Secondly no one actually told us where to sit even after some asked. They were also not polite either if there were this situation would have never happened. As I said we were absolutely fine if we got something wrong and sat in the wrong place to move but it was the way we were spoken to that was the problem. The reason we were given was that all the tables were reserved. All we asked your staff member to do was be polite and be welcoming and I can assure you she did neither. I also completely disagree that at any point any of us raised our voices. Even after saying that we felt unwelcome your staff continued to ask us to move rather than saying sorry if she came across that way and resetting the conversation. We only decided to you leave when you staff said that this conversation is over and just leave. I am very disappointed that not only were your staff member was unwelcoming but on top of this they said we raised our voices. I can assure you we did no such thing neither were we rude in any shape or form, all we kept asking was not be felt unwelcoming. We just wanted to have something to eat and drink. Appalling attitude! We decided to go in the restaurant as the location was great. Some of our family members who are disabled went in first and manage to get in and sit at a table. They asked where they could and were directed to the restaurant. We arrived later and as soon as we say down, this women came telling us you can't sit down here these are reserved, even though the restaurant was completely empty and no signs. We would have been happy to move but the way we were approaching was not very welcoming. All we would have expected was a sorry and we would have moved to wherever. In face what we got was this conversation is over and leave! A very disappointing attitude.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Perfect Family Getaway! We had a fantastic stay at Saunton Sands Hotel and can’t recommend it highly enough. The staff were absolutely wonderful—so friendly, helpful, and always happy to go the extra mile to make sure everyone was having a great time. The hotel is extremely family-friendly—we saw everyone from babies to boomers enjoying themselves, and it was clear that all ages were really well catered for. The facilities were excellent, with everything we needed for a relaxing and fun-filled stay. One of the highlights was the summer activities timetable—a brilliant mix of things to do, all well-organised, varied, and completely free. It made such a difference having so many great options to keep everyone entertained. We’ll definitely be back. A truly special place for a family holiday!

Spectacular location but do not book an inland facing room - ducting poured out food smells so the room smelt terrible and window couldn’t be opened. For the price (£350 per night) I might have expected no drips from bathroom and mould to be removed from bathroom. Perhaps the sea view rooms are nicer?

The location must be one of the best, sit outside in the sun and there isn't a better spot, it's like being abroad. Food and Al fresco dining are excellent. The spa is spotless and modern. The service is very good, if a little something goes wrong it's rectified with a smile. As Arnie says "we'll be back"

Great hotel with friendly and efficient staff. We had a room with a fantastic view down the long and sandy beach. The dining room and main bar overlooked the bay too, and the food was delicious and varied. I didn’t take any of the spa treatments, but the thermal rooms and indoor pool were very relaxing, and even the outdoor pool was warm. The car park was a good size for visitors, and included two type C EV charging points. One slight reservation is that the hotel public rooms and car park could get pretty busy if there was a conference on. Overall, if you want a relaxing break in north Devon where you will be well looked after, the Saunton Sands will fit the bill.

We came for Afternoon Tea for a 60th birthday. Firstly, the food was lovely and the view over the beach was beautiful. Hotel reception staff were friendly upon greeting. However, this unfortunately wasn’t the case in the restaurant. When we arrived we asked if we could sit outside as the dining room was dark as the blinds were closed, obscuring the view. However we were moved from the comfier seats outside as these were already laid up for dinner (at 3:30pm). The waiter that greeted us then failed to mention to the waiter in-charge of the afternoon tea service that we had even arrived. So after one failed attempt to get service at the bar, we sat for over 30 mins without any service or offers of drinks. When we finally got served the waiter was polite and apologetic. We also asked for a jug of water four times that kept getting forgotten. After the food arrived we didn’t get approached by any other servers, to ask how things were or if we wanted anything else. We also ordered two proseccos (upgrading our afternoon tea) however until queried we were charged full price for these on-top of the afternoon tea. Overall, the service unfortunately was a shambles and made a special birthday quite underwhelming.

The Masons Arms in Branscombe is a charming 14th-century inn with a thatched roof, offering country-chic rooms, a traditional bar, and a modern British restaurant. Situated near the beach at Branscombe, it provides easy access to the surrounding countryside and the South West Coast Path. The inn has been recognized as one of the best pubs in South West England at the National Pub & Bar Awards 2023.
Enjoyed a great 3 night break in this hotel / pub. The accommodation is beautiful and combines the traditional look and feel of the building with high end and up to date modern facilities. The staff were all very friendly and could not have been more helpful. We ate on 2 nights in the restaurant and had brilliant meals on both occasions. Breakfasts were excellent with lots of different options and served until 10.30am. Great atmosphere in the pub with excellent range of draft beers and and extensive gin selection. I would thoroughly recommend The Masons Arms as a pub, a hotel and a restaurant.

We had a brilliant stay at the Mason arms. The team were friendly and very accommodating to us throughout our stay (with a baby and dog). The food was delicious, our room was lovely and we enjoyed morning strolls to the beach. Will definitely be coming back!

Perfect stay 💯 Accommodation (room 35 for 2 plus dog) perfect! Food delicious 😋 (even for a vegetarian!) Staff super lovely; shout out for Connor, who could not have been a better ‘front of house’. Ripe language at the bar from locals, the only downside, & it is what it is. We’re already booked to return in May 26’. Thank you 🙏

It's beautiful. The rooms are amazing, so cute and full of character. No air conditioning which is the only let down when it's summertime. Everything else though is top notch. The staff in the pub are amazing and the food is sooo good! Consistently amazing and I've never had to send anything back! I've been a few times to this place now so to see consistent meals that taste gorgeous is fantastic. You won't be disappointed if you just stayed there the whole weekend and didn't leave the pub!

Very impressed. Stayed one night in a fabulous room with its own patio and a super-comfy superking bed. Enjoyed a very tasty and much-needed (after hiking the long way to the beach and back!) late Sunday lunch. Efficient, friendly service all round, and altogether an experience which we would highly recommend.

We had Sunday lunch here and it was just perfect. Great food. Nice atmoshere. Friendly and efficient service in a lovely old traditional building. What more could you ask for?

The food here was the best on our holiday. The staff and locals equally welcoming, we weren't booked in a room here but were staying in the Pink house next door. Book in advance as we struggled to get a second date, but they gladly seated us in the garden area with a gas burner and throws to keep the chill off. Branscombe itself is a beautiful village with plenty to explore, gorgeous walks, amazing scenery and charming beach. Would 100% go back and do it all again

Ate here at lunch during the week. Absolutely delicious and perfect food. Great, generous starters. Steak done exactly as requested, perfect crispy batter on flaky fish with delicious chips. Caesar salad light and tasty. Salmon was amazing. 6/5 would recommend to anyone.

This exquisite hotel features high-end rooms and upscale villas, all designed to provide comfort and elegance. Guests can indulge in rejuvenating treatments at the on-site spa or catch a film in the private cinema for a unique entertainment experience.
We had four nights in June here and loved it. Our balcony room was exceptional. The restaurant was top class, and t buhe wellness services I had were heavenly. All perfect!

Lovely return to a beautifully located Hotel . Staff wonderful and everywhere immaculate. Unfortunately we found the meals expensive and the rooms unbearably hot . The 10oz steak with salad was £31 , salad being a small amount of rocket and two cherry tomatoes halved , the chips were extra at £6 , in hindsight we had a better meal in town at more reasonable prices the following night .

Very special night away at the Salcombe Harbour Hotel for my birthday. Our room was kindly upgraded by your lovely Team to a beautiful room with an estuary view and balcony. Amazing massage with Emmy from the Spa. Highly recommended! Delicious dinner with old friends in your lovely dining room with very helpful staff. Thank you for such a truly wonderful night away. Your team are so warm and friendly. It really made my stay to feel so welcomed in a place I truly love. There’s no where I love more than Salcombe. We are returning to the Salcombe Harbour Hotel in September and we will be back for many more visits in the future. Thank you 🙏

UPDATE: Following my original review, the General Manager responded to me personally via email — however, addressed us incorrectly as “Mr. & Mrs. Douglas,” despite being clearly informed of our names and that we are not married. This kind of careless handling sums up our entire experience: surface-level politeness, but no real attention to detail. His public reply here is misleading. While he suggests the matter was “discussed,” in reality it was not resolved. My concerns — including the poor room condition, the mishandling of our anniversary dinner at The Jetty, the dismissive treatment by staff, and the 4am noise — were acknowledged but largely brushed off. No meaningful resolution or gesture was offered despite us spending over £500 on food and drink. This reply feels more like damage control than genuine customer service. It reinforces my view that guests outside wedding groups or “VIPs” are treated like afterthoughts. We won’t be returning. If you value attention to detail, special occasion service, and staff who truly listen — look elsewhere. Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ (1 out of 5) Extremely Disappointing Anniversary Stay – Not Worth the Price We stayed at Harbour Hotel Salcombe from June 14–16 to celebrate our anniversary, but it turned into a frustrating and underwhelming experience. While Helen at reception was lovely and helpful in switching our room (the lift was broken and my partner couldn’t manage stairs with a heavy suitcase), that’s where the positives ended. The room had a clogged sink, a strong musty odor, and worn carpets. A supposed “complimentary Salcombe gin” turned out to require purchasing tonic from the minibar — not exactly the thoughtful gesture it appeared to be. Worst of all, under the tissue box lid was a hidden toilet roll. I’ve travelled to 250+ destinations and never seen anything quite like it. We booked The Jetty restaurant in advance and informed the hotel that it was our anniversary, requesting a table with a view. No acknowledgment, no note, no effort. When we reminded them, we were told it was “first come, first serve.” On the night of our celebration, we weren’t seated until past 8pm (despite a 7:15pm reservation), and the table eventually offered was clearly an afterthought. Cloe, the staff member in charge, was dismissive and unprofessional. Add in noisy wedding parties, having to call reception at 4am to stop the next-door noise, and over £500 spent on subpar service and drinks — and the experience becomes not just disappointing but frustrating. We will not return. If you value your time, money, and special occasions, look elsewhere.

Stayed whilst visiting family for one night only, arrived late on the Saturday night and was greeted by Helen on reception, she could not have been more helpful and professional a credit to the Harbour Hotels Group. Helen offered us an upgrade and offered to show us the room which was fabulous and fantastic views, of course we accepted. Visited the bar area and again the staff could not have been anymore helpful than they were. After a great nights sleep in our very lovely room we went for Breakfast in the dining area where again staff could not have been more polite and professional, service was good as well as the food. Cannot rate this experience any better than excellent. Can’t wait to visit again soon, but for longer.

Unfortunately we missed our booking for the restaurant and Sunday lunch. We couldn't get in any of the public car parks or the hotel car park (stuck for ages on a narrow street behind vehicles looking in at the hotel car park and then getting stuck blocking the road) couldn't find any street parking, after driving round in circles for ages we gave up, must be terrible for business! We did see a park and ride on our way out of Salcombe (which was different to the way we came in) but it was too late then. It would have helped if there was some sort of warning given (about parking) by the hotel when restaurant bookings are made, we would have known then to look out for the P&R........ we did get a lovely Sunday roast elsewhere

Just returned from a wonderful birthday stay here. The staff are all very attentive and made sure our stay was special, nothing was too much trouble. Lovely touches for children such as wellies, cinema room and designated swim times. Special mention to Adam the Restaurant Manager- both him and his team provided exceptional service!

A disappointing visit this year. Longstanding guests of Marine Quay and the Harbour Hotel, but the connection between the two feels lost. Spa facilities were partly out of order with no warning, the towel policy felt unfair, and we were turned away from the hotel shuttle while trying to celebrate a birthday. Poor value for the price.

Hotel Endsleigh is an elegant and timeless hotel located in the Dartmoor hills, set in a former fishing lodge with chic country-house interiors. The Grade I-listed grounds feature a stunning garden with rose-clad terraces and fresh-cut lawns overlooking the River Tamar. The upscale restaurant offers a menu that showcases local ingredients with an Italian twist. Dog-friendly rooms are available, furnished with hand-painted wallpaper and antique bathroom fittings, making it ideal for families.
Wow! We had our wedding celebration and night at Hotel Endsleigh and I can honestly say it was the most perfect setting ever. Adam & Richard helped with the planning and were absolutely incredible with our requests, every single member of staff on the day was attentive and helped it to go smoothly and we couldn't have asked for anything better, they are a true asset to the hotel. The grounds are simply stunning, as are the rooms and we cannot wait to come back and stay here again. We also came with our dog and everyone catered so perfectly to him during our stay. A big thank you once again, simply stunning!

The rooms and location are fabulous if you like gardens and countryside. You can’t see another building or road just amazing scenery. The service let my visit down for me slightly, the staff on reception were excellent, friendly and fun but the waiting staff could have done a much better job. I didn’t feel like a valued customer at all and I was staying there for 3 nights. I will return however because everything else including the food was incredible.

The most wonderful stay, from the warm welcome to every meal being served by very helpful and lovely staff, it was a brilliant evening and stay. The grounds are totally worth an explore and the handy maps at reception give you the best routes to explore. The food was delicious and the emphasis on locally sourced made it extra special.

Visited for a not so busy lunch and I must say this restaurant is a hit and miss affair. Starters were amazing - the Mackerel not only looked beautiful but more importantly tasted on point. One main was a major let down - Beef Ribs. The dish once again looked beautiful, unfortunately, the beef was so overcooked - it was leather shoe standard. So, I did return this dish and whilst a replacement was offered, my fellow diners had already started eating. Therefore, I asked for a simple ham sandwich to speed things along. This sandwich arrived when the others had finished their mains; the bread was dry and ham was "supermarket" standard. By now I had given up (nobody asked, so I persevered). The desserts were faultless. The bill arrived with a £18.75 discount AFTER a £21.09 service charge. Now, you were already going to lose a point for a 12.5% discretionary service charge (really no need), but to simply add it after the issues was ridiculous. Yes, let us reward the chefs failures! I felt the Maître d was very direct with service with a tone that at times felt curt and rude. This is not our first visit here and maybe some kindness and a smile should be present?

Nestled in the charming seaside town of Torquay, Lincombe Hall Hotel & Spa - Just for Adults offers a serene escape just moments from the vibrant marina and bustling center. This elegant hotel features both indoor and outdoor pools, perfect for relaxation throughout the year. Guests can unwind at the luxurious spa, which boasts an impressive array of facilities including a 15-meter lap pool, hydrotherapy options, steam room, sauna, and various treatment rooms dedicated to beauty therapies.
This is a lovely spa hotel within walking distance of Torquay harbour and marina. It’s up a steep hill though but the view from the terrace is good. There is a brasserie serving small plates and main meals. These are excellent quality although the menu is relatively small. The spa has excellent facilities and offers treatments which are discounted if you are a resident in the hotel. Our room was a good size with air con. There en suite was spacious with a bath and walk in shower. The bed was large with quality covers and was very comfortable. Staff were all more than helpful and we enjoyed our stay immensely.
Jez B — Google review
Very disappointed for the price we paid. Room was dated / old and in need of some TLC, didn’t feel “luxury” at all, especially the shower. No room service available. Staff were pleasant. Food was good, so that was a plus. Felt like the menu needed more healthy/light options. Afternoon tea was nice but needed more savoury options in my opinion, felt like sweets outweighed savoury. We had 2x treatments each which were both good, no complaints here other than we were sat waiting in an unattended spa reception for a long time with no information/welcome. Spa was clean and well appointed but quite small and pool not big enough for lots of people to effectively swim. It was ok. However considering we visited specifically for a spa break we weren’t blown away. Bed was too hard for me and I personally didn’t sleep well at all and woke up feeling groggy and tired rather than refreshed and relaxed. Overall, didn’t feel like we got value for money considering other spa breaks where we have paid the same price and had a much better experience. Also had to pay £15 per night for parking which is a complete rip off given we were guests. Wont be returning.

Lovely hotel and we had a great stay. The spa was beautiful, with a great variety of experiences - sauna, steam room, ice room, etc. Great location, 5 minute walk to the quay front. Found the room and bathroom quite small, and the bed comfort was average. Drinks were quite pricey but I guess that's to be expected at a spa hotel! Overall a great stay and would stay here again.

An exceptionally beautiful hotel with exceptionally professional staff. I can not fault a single thing about our stay here. The room is spacious, well designed and extremely comfortable. The level of service is first rate and the food is head and shoulders above anything you will find in the town. I am amazed at the price point for what you get. My partner and I will be making this place a annual retreat from now on. I know an have already said it above, but the staff are amazing.

Visited Lincombe Hall for a spa day and couldn't fault the welcome, the spa itself and the food and service through out. Thanks to Harry in the restaurant, the chef who has created some amazing dishes and also to Stephanie in the spa. Everyone is very welcoming, polite and discreet. Location good too with parking.

Two of stayed for 4 nights during the heatwave in August. Great location only 10 mins walk from the harbour and everything that Torquay has to offer (unfortunately as with most of Torquay walk home was up a very steep hill) Lovely large grassed outside space with plenty of sun loungers to soak up the sun with wonderful views over Torquay. Public area were tastefully decorated and being adults only had a restful sophisticated atmosphere. Rooms were a good size , comfortable and quiet with excellent shower. The icing on the cake was an extensive Spa!

Fabulous hidden gem hotel in South Devon. We had a very short but wonderful break here with family and friends. We stayed in room 272 with parents and a child and an elderly relative. It was a lovely family suite that was quiet but also conveniently right next to the lift. The service throughout our stay was without a doubt exceptional. Both the bar and waiter staff, who were friendly professional and also helpful, were great for advice about the local beaches. We had a lovely swim at an unspoilt local beach. The breakfast was brilliant, I recommend eggs florentine, and food is amazing at the pub which is affiliated to the hotel. The grounds are lovely with landscaped gardens, tennis courts and a nine hole golf course if that's your sport. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended for a special break👌

Amazed at all the good reviews of this hotel. It is a lovely setting with wonderful grounds and a great view, and the staff and breakfast were excellent. However the room was dowdy and old fashioned, the double bed was two singles pushed together so very uncomfortable, the carpet was stained, and you have to clamber into the bath to use the shower! All of this for a shocking £400/night (which I foolishly thought would grant me a high quality experience). At half that or less, it would be forgivable but that's 5 star money for a dowdy guesthouse experience, at least as far as the room is concerned, the actual hotel and grounds are nice. Very disappointing

Myself, my partner and our dog stayed in a Garden room no 20 for just one night. The room was spotlessly clean and very roomy. It was lovely to have a patio area to allow our dog outside and for us to hear the wonderful bird song. One criticism of the room was the shower. The floor got so flooded due to it not having enough of a screen to keep water in the shower area, it became dangerous, so I had to lay towels down to soak up the water. The staff were welcoming and helpful. It was lovely to have our dog with us at breakfast. Breakfast was good selection. The Marmalade was fabulous. Cooked breakfast was well cooked. Tea did not seem to be hot. Not sure why, could be the hot water depensor to fill tea pot is below boiling. Facilities are excellent and we enjoyed swimming in the pool. The position of the hotel with breathtaking views was outstanding. We would definitely return.

What a find! Came across this on booking.com and decided to book direct for a last minute stop over on the way home from Cornwall back to London. Warmly greeted by Becky on our arrival and shown to a gorgeous room with a stunning view! Super comfortable beds and en-suite bathrooms. The food however was on another level! We ate on both nights of our stay because the food was so good on the first night! Well designed menu and not expensive for the quality of produce. The breakfast was lovely and fresh and good free range eggs too. With an onsite swimming pool and sauna this made a really nice retreat. Within a short drive to the lovely Salcombe it was the perfect stay for a short break. Thank you Soar Mill we will return. In times where the hospitality industry has taken a battering, you deserve to be successful.

Oh my goodness, what an absolute treasure this hotel is. Tucked away down a lane it is situated in a fabulous setting overlooking craggy rocks and sea views. The Highland cows in the field below just added to the charm. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We had a car breakdown on arrival and nothing was a problem for them in helping recovery of the vehicle. Warmth exudes from this hotel and I would encourage anyone to stay there. I cannot wait to go back again for longer. Excellent all round.

The view from the hotel and the restaurant is absolutely breathtaking. Looking for a romantic stay?! It's definitely the place to be ;o) The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was very good, with freshly baked viennoiseries. The staff were very friendly and helpful...the majority... The bathroom tap was leaking, which was annoying during the night as you could hear the water dripping (room 11). Although the hotel has a very nice swimming pool, decent in size and pleasantly warm, a quick daily clean of the floor would be appreciated. The beds were not comfortable; we could feel the springs in our backs and couldn't get a restful night sleep, so we decided to shorten our stay and leave a day earlier. We had already paid for the full stay, as it was our decision to leave early. However, the following day we received a phone call asking us to pay for our stay. It seems the receptionist hadn't properly checked the system to confirm our payment. Mistakes are part of being human, but after sleepless nights, the insinuation that we left without paying felt really unpleasant. Always double-check!

A Wonderful Stay at Soar Mill Cove Hotel We’ve just returned from a 4-day stay at the lovely Soar Mill Cove Hotel near Salcombe, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, friendly, and incredibly helpful—nothing was too much trouble. The location is absolutely stunning, with breathtaking views over the sea. Just a short walk from the hotel takes you to a secluded cove and beach, which felt like a hidden gem. It’s also a perfect spot for dog owners, with plenty of beautiful walks right on the doorstep. Breakfast each morning was a treat, with plenty of choice and everything freshly prepared. The restaurant food was exceptional—delicious, well-cooked, and beautifully presented. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a relaxing, scenic break with top-notch hospitality. Thank you to everyone at Soar Mill Cove Hotel—we’ll definitely be back

Firstly, I know that this has nothing to do with the hotel itself but it is about staff responsibility and dog safety. I would like to explain that on Sunday 8th June this man, (who is a chef at this hotel) and lady (who also works at the hotel) along with their 2 dogs were on Soar Mill Cove. Their black dog aggressively attack my dog, it jumped on my dogs back and was trying to bite him. Luckily for my dog, he had a dog life jacket harness on which prevented any wounds being inflicted. Now, what makes this worse is that these two irresponsible owners just put their dog on a lead and started to walk away without checking to see if my dog was injured. We have to stop them and try to talk with them about their aggressive dog but as they weren’t from this country , all they could say was ‘we work at hotel’. ‘we live at hotel’ Now, if they actually do live on site then this hotel needs to be very careful with an aggressive dog being around possible guest dogs.

This place is a gem! We only stayed one night but I wish we had been able to stay longer. The rooms were great and the people very friendly and helpful, but the thing i liked the most was the attention to detail - the air cooler already on in our room before we arrived, the high quality toiletries, the luxurious bedding and pillows... and the breakfast was outstanding! It's a 5 min walk to the cathedral and all the restaurants and parking was easy. Thank you for a top notch stay, and it's the only place I will go to if we're back in Exeter again.

I stayed the evening before my wedding with my Maid of Honour and then my wedding night with my husband and it was absolute perfection throughout. Every single member of staff we met during the 3 days was warm and welcoming and really joined us in the celebratory spirit of it all. Breakfast was absolutely exceptional, the room superb, honestly I could be here for hours and never finish singing the praises of this hotel. What a special memory for us all, I will never forget it!

My husband and I stay for three nights and would definitely stay again. We stayed in the Silk room which was very nice, bed was comfy, sheets and linen good quality. As Jeff H commented no wardrobe which was inconvenient as we had a lot of clothes/coats. The room was lovely and warm and we loved the fact that we could open the windows. We had breakfast, which was served, which is unusual these days, it was hot, very tasty and good menu, best we have had in a hotel in a very long time. Staff, without exception, were polite, professional, friendly and very helpful. Great stay :)

2 delightful nights at the Southernhay House Hotel. Lily at reception was all around exceptional! Very helpful. Breakfast & dinner was excellent.

I decided to treat myself and stay here after my Dad passed away, I was hoping to just escape life for a while, grieve in my own way and enjoy some comfort. I paid £260 a night and I was hoping the price would be justified but unfortunately it wasn’t. The room was very compact, almost claustrophobic. The bed was comfortable and the room well decorated but some marks on the furniture and dust. For this standard of hotel and the price I would have expected it to be spotless. No milk in the rooms so you have to ask reception to bring up every time which is inconvenient as well as for the staff I’m sure. Also there is a luxury snack tray and the prices are extortionate. I had to be careful not to use something in case I was charged. Bathrobes would have been nice too. I had room service many times and the staff were always friendly and proficient. The food is excellent and I would say the price is justified in this case. I would have been tempted to eat in the restaurant but there was no atmosphere and always seemed so empty. This is something I noticed upon check in. Reminded me of a bit of a hospital waiting room. I think this hotel has the potential to be one of the best and there a lot of positives as I’ve mentioned but I just can’t see myself staying again and not at these prices.

I have recently stayed in one of the Intimate Rooms to celebrate our anniversary. This hotel has a lot of potential and is gorgeous with an excellent location. However, it’s definitely not worth the money. It was really noisy, the pillows were rock hard and the bed was very uncomfortable. I’ve fed this back to the receptionist at check-out and her reply that I should’ve booked a more expensive room was extremely disappointing and unprofessional to say the least. I expected more considering the price paid and they were aware that this was for our anniversary and first night away from our daughter.

Nestled along the stunning North Devon coast, Source Spa at Saunton Sands Hotel is a true haven for relaxation and adventure. With its breathtaking views of golden sandy beaches and proximity to the South West Coast Path, this destination offers an idyllic escape from city life. Guests can indulge in a variety of activities, from invigorating water sports like surfing and kayaking to leisurely pursuits such as cycling or bird watching.
Plenty of parking, register at reception as a day guest and parking is complimentary. Warm staff welcome with explanation of dining arrangements. Beautiful interior dining lounge, is very hot,as the building faces south and becomes a sun trap even on cool days. We ate on the terrace and enjoyed the beautiful views of Bideford Bay. Service is excellent with chatty polite staff. The gents toilets are immaculately clean, impressive even. Very pleasant dining visit highly recommended .

This review is for the spa as I did not use the other hotel facilities. My husband booked a massage for me as a Birthday treat, but it was not the treat I was hoping for. I am not sure if the therapist was properly trained in massage. I was literally bathed in oil so it was dripping off me, then the lightest of touch but digging in with a knuckle so felt very uncomfortable. I had asked for medium to firm pressure on the form and had to stop the therapist twice to explain what firm pressure should be. The room was fully lit, music too loud so not really an ambient setting for relaxation. I came out feeling more tense than when I went in! I will not be recommending or returning!

Fantastic evening My son bought me a twilight spa voucher. I booked the evening I wanted. I also had a friend come with me. We were met by friendly staff. Robes and complimentary flip flops supplied. We used the outside pool, then indoor pool. The spa facilities are fantastic and spotlessly clean. Nearly forgot a cool glass of Prosecco. Relaxation room with wonderful views. Great value for 3 and half hours of relaxation 🙂

The only reason it has a star is for the view from our room. The hotel looks like an upper class establishment but it’s ran by what I can describe as headless chickens… how this hotel runs day to day is beyond me. Staff have no clue or customer service and the management ( Kevin to be specific) how he hasn’t scared all the guests off by his rudeness the guy wouldn’t know customer service if it hit him in the face. The spa… was the most un-relaxing experience I have had. Sauna had an odd smell and the steam room didn’t work, and to top it off before we went to the Spa all my husbands clothes got stuck in a locker ( reported this and was promised it would be fixed by the time we got out ) after leaving the spa we asked if this had been fixed .. it had not… We spoke to the orignal staff member who said “ oh I didn’t think anything was in it” tried to get it open again and couldn’t so this had to be reported to maintenance who didn’t answer..

We went for a twilight spa session from 6.00-9.30. On arrival we received our flips flops, towel and robe and received a free glass of Prosecco. The staff were super friendly and showed us around before leaving us to it. The infinity spa with spectacular views over Saunton Sands was AMAZING! We were lucky to be there as the sun went down and the view was incredible. Followed up with the steam room, sauna and then a dip in the pool before heading to the roof terrace for a relax and a read. The spa was super clean, very high spec and not too crowded. The only slight down side was the size of the robes, mine was so small I could barely get it around me! I asked for a bigger one but that was all they had, not the end of the world! Highly recommend this place, especially if you are camping nearby and want to get a bit of luxury into your holiday!

Booked a spa day for 5 people, was really lovely, fantastic service from the moment we stepped into the hotel. Lady at the spa desk coul not have been more helpful, smiley and welcoming. Would highly recommend, and we will go back again. Dinner was very tasty and the server was very helpful and friendly.

Awful stay at Saunton Sands, I’ve stayed in over 40 hotels in the past 6 months and this was by far one of the worst. The place was chaotic, the staff were all over the place & I don’t understand how so many people think this place is amazing. The room was dated, minus the bathroom, the breakfast was mediocre and the spa… wouldn’t go as far as calling it a spa, the sauna was barely hot, the lockers break on you and the hot tub smelt like damp. The manager Kevin who I dealt with was awful, no manners and incredibly rude, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. A complaint had been submitted to the hotel. EDIT: Reached out to the hotel to submit a complaint and had a response from the general manager Anthony Kingdon … the response was very dismissive, avoiding taking accountability for my complaint and concerns, and quite frankly was the most difficult person to deal with, his attitude was awful, he refused to respond to my queries and in the end refused to pass my complaint on to anyone when there is blatant negligence happening, this really shows you what kind of people are running this place. Honestly, avoid like the plague, save your money cause you can get so much better in a short drive away. 2nd EDIT: I then reached out to the director Peter Brend who runs the Saunton Sands Hotel and was told that because I have chosen to vent my frustrations on multiple different review platforms like Google, TripAdvisor etc. that I have taken away any chance of my complaint being resolved to which I replied, I have the right to share my experience to others due to the awful time I’ve had dealing with Saunton Sands and that I still believe my complaint has not had a decent response to which I have never had a reply back from… you can understand how this place is ran if each of these managers isn’t capable of resolving a complaint.

Don't buy a voucher for this Spa unless you want to be told lies that the dates you requested are not available even when they are. They will use the excuse of maintenance work although oddly you can still book those dates online The staff will then promise to phone back 'within the hour' with available dates and you won't hear from them again. Undoubtedly they are hoping that you will eventually give up trying and your voucher will have expired. After a long hard winter I was really looking forward to being pampered but would rather go to a Spa where honesty and respect is valued.

This review is for an evening meal, we didn't stay. The location and views are stunning. The food was excellent. It's not the cheapest place to eat, but we felt it was fair value for the quality of the food. The service was unhurried - occasionally felt a little slow, but not enough to be a major issue. We'd definitely eat here again, especially for a special occasion.

Classy restaurant and bar high on cliff overlooking Torbay. Excellent views from the window tables and the outdoor seating area. The restaurant was busy until about 2pm (Oct) so book at busy times or summer. Good selection of high quality meals, sandwiches etc. Parking onsite is very steep! Be sure to visit the fort about a mile away to walk off the food.

12 of us went to the restaurant for a cream tea. We were so impressed as soon as we walked in and they made us a table to accommodate all. They then offered to take a photo for us so we could all be in the picture. They were patient as we all decided a d then changed our minds on what we wanted. The service was impeccable and the cream teas was delicious. We really enjoyed our visit there and would highly recommend. A wonderful hotel with beautiful views and lovely staff.

We have stayed at the Berry Head Hotel three times now and have thoroughly enjoyed each stay. The hotel is set in an unbeatable location with incredible sea views and attractive grounds. The hotel is steeped in history, which for us is part of the attraction. The rooms are clean, cosy and comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities. The staff in all areas are good humoured, helpful friendly and efficient. We have only eaten breakfast at the hotel, which is always well cooked and tasty. There are a vast array of breakfast choices to suit all tastes. Next time we stay, we will definitely sample the dinner menu. Each time we have stayed at The Berry Head Hotel we have been sorry to leave and thoroughly recommend it.

Very disappointed. We visited from London for our Wedding Anniversary and spoke to the man who booked us in. He said they were very busy and would try and get us a window table. We arrived 5 minutes early, the man/waiter didn't look like a waiter, more he had just done the gardening. We were given a table not in the window with very dirty floor area. Maximum diners were 12, there was a table that could have been offered but wasnt. We were given a starter We had not ordered and no idea what it was. The food we were given we were very disappointed with. We then went into the brasserie where it was a much better atmosphere. The young man who served us was friendly and disappointed to hear about the service we had just received the main dining room. He actually helped us to cheer up and kept apologising. We certainly would not recommend or go again.

Stayed here for two nights staff were great as well as the location with the views. Only thing that let it down were the quality of room vs the price point. We stayed in a balcony room (very small) with amazing views of the sea it was also very clean and dog friendly which was nice but for the price the room was quite basic and the walls quite thin. There was also a gap under the room door that let a lot of light and subsequent noise on from the hallway. Generally a really nice stay but I think it's quite expensive for what you get. Well worth going for lunch or a drink with the views though and as I said the staff we spoke to were all really great.

I like coming to Berry Head Hotel because it has that great atmosphere where you can relax and unwind in the library section. I've been fortunate to go with a friend into the bar and restaurant and hear lovely Piano music playing and a lovely view of Torquay when you are outside having a drink. The food is also fantastic and they update their menu for different times of the year whether it's Christmas Time or New Year's Eve etc.

Had a really nice week day lunch with friends. The views from the restaurant are fantastic. Service very good and efficient. Food was very nice. Had fish and chips. Fish was lovely, would have preferred proper homemade chips. They were a bit like oven chips, nice all the same.

The Horn of Plenty is a charming country house hotel with stunning valley views and an acclaimed restaurant. Situated in the Tamar Valley, it offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by five acres of gardens. The hotel is dog-friendly, making it perfect for exploring the nearby Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Dartmoor National Park.
I went with my husband and our two kids to The Horn of Plenty and our experience was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the spacious rooms, which offer a comfortable and elegant space for a relaxing stay. The views from the hotel are simply breathtaking, with landscapes that leave you speechless and make every moment special. Jeremy, the owner, and all the staff, Everet, Sarah and the waitress, did an incredible job making us feel welcome and cared for throughout our visit. Their attention to detail and warmth really make a difference. The cuisine at this hotel is top-notch. The dishes they serve are exquisite, with flavors that delight the palate and impeccable presentation. It’s a truly exclusive place that combines luxury, comfort, and a memorable culinary experience. I highly recommend The Horn of Plenty to anyone looking for a special getaway in a beautiful setting with exceptional service. We will definitely return! Pet friendly and kids are always welcome. Thank you Jeremy and all the staff🙏🏼☺️

We recently had our wedding here and I just want to thank Shirna and all her staff that were involved in making our day truely special. We count ourselves very lucky to have been married in such a lovely hotel, set in such beautiful surroundings. All the food was wonderful throughout our stay, and we are also very grateful to the chef for arranging the rice dishes for a more Filipino friendly breakfast. You were all fantastic and I have no doubt we'll be seeing you again on our anniversary.

Love this place. Our second visit here. Dog friendly which was great. They left a bowl, towel and treats for the dog in the room and he's allowed to pad around the gardens. Great rooms. We were in the dog friendly coach house conversion. Fantastic food. Supper never disappoints. Fantastic views from the terrace with a glass of wine and then supper overlooking the valley. Breakfast was delicious but service not so great and buffet items not replenished. Had to keep asking for things. Otherwise fantastic.

Always amazing food and great service in such a nice atmosphere and location. Food is always presented beautifully and the chefs obviously appreciate and love what they do because the food is exceptional and every course has a distinct unique experience that makes you want more. The wine selection is also great so all that’s left is to have a few cognac’s .. 5*

We recently celebrated a 90th birthday here with a family group of mixed ages. We’ve been a few times and the views from the restaurant are amazing. Unfortunately the portion sizes have been slashed and we were all hungry again within an hour or two - not great considering the price. The service was also poor - our waitress seemed to be new and managed to waste at least a glass of champagne in opening the bottle and spilling it when pouring - they offered no complementary glass as compensation. The manager also commented that the reception area was “turning into a kindergarten” as we walked our baby around to keep him occupied. All in all, a disappointing experience from a formerly excellent eatery. Try the Cornish Arms instead!

We recently had our wedding at The Horn of Plenty and it truly exceeded all of our expectations. From the breathtaking views to the flawless service, everything about the day was perfect. The venue itself is stunning, set in the heart of the countryside, and offers an elegant blend of a country house with modern touches. The views were absolutely breathtaking, and while we had our ceremony indoors due to the weather, we were able to make full use of the outside space when it cleared up. The scenery made for some amazing photos, and our guests couldn’t stop commenting on how picturesque the surroundings were. The whole atmosphere was relaxed yet incredibly refined - a beautiful mix of rustic charm and sophistication. A massive thank you to Shrina and Jess, who were absolutely fantastic throughout the entire wedding planning process. They were so helpful, attentive, and calm during the lead-up to the wedding, which was honestly a lifesaver with all the planning stress. We had a few personal touches we wanted to add, like custom signage and signature cocktails for our celebration drinks, and they were more than happy to accept our ideas and guide us on the best way to incorporate them. The staff at The Horn of Plenty were wonderful, polite, professional, and accommodating. We felt supported every step of the way, and the team’s attention to detail made our entire wedding weekend smooth and memorable. All of our guests had an amazing time, which was such a relief! Where do I even start with the food? It was incredible. The process of creating our menu with the chef was one of our favorite parts of the planning. They really listened to our preferences and ensured that everything, from the canapés to the three-course meal, paired beautifully. We loved that we had the opportunity to try everything beforehand, which allowed us to truly enjoy the flavors on the day without any wedding-day chaos taking over. Our guests are still raving about the food months later, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for anything better. The evening food went down a treat too! Being able to choose that too was a great touch and helped us craft the perfect experience for everyone. All the rooms at The Horn of Plenty were lovely, clean, spacious and perfect for our guests who stayed overnight. It was clear the venue really took pride in making sure everyone was comfortable. The breakfast the next morning was a real highlight, with plenty of options that satisfied everyone’s needs after a long night of celebration. The Horn of Plenty made our wedding day everything we could have dreamed of and more. From the stunning setting and seamless service to the unforgettable food and drink, it was a truly magical experience. The team went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect, and we can’t thank them enough for making our special day so extraordinary. If you’re looking for a venue that offers a mix of elegance, charm, and exceptional service, we wholeheartedly recommend The Horn of Plenty. It was even better than we could have imagined, absolutely perfect!

Nice hotel in a stunning location. We stayed in The Loft. Strange layout and the big bed just isn't big enough. It also isn't very comfortable and rolls to the edge of the bed. Needed a lick of paint in the room and the balcony is in need of some repair. Great facilities in the hotel itself and a great pool. The location is the big selling point to the hotel.
Rob B — Google review
Honestly I was sad to go, I’ve been here many times before and this year was the best, the beach is literally a 5 min walk away and it’s not a hassle having to walk around the hotel to get in using the ‘proper entrance’ instead we can use the gate that is directly opposite the beach so it’s super easy. The pools are amazing and the steam room, jacuzzi and sauna are good. Let’s talk about the service because it’s unbeatable. The bar staff are amazing- I don’t know their names but there was a man who was on his first couple of shifts and he was amazing especially with how busy it was he wasn’t letting anything stop him and he was always trying his hardest to do everything right. There was another two men who looked young one with brown hair and another with dirty noonish hair and they where both incredible and friendly. Two Women on the bar where amazing as well they were always helpful whenever there was something that we needed or just to ask a question. The food there is amazing they are big portions but definitely worth the money. Breakfast was amazing with three waiters who stood out: Jonathan, Helen and also I’m very sorry as I don’t know his name but again a younger lad who had curly hair they were very helpful and cheerful. I really do recon this place and I will be coming back for sure

My husband and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Woolacombe Bay Hotel for our minimoon, just a day after our wedding. It was a fantastic experience from start to finish. We honestly couldn't have picked a more perfect place to celebrate our new chapter! Every member of staff we encountered was super helpful and friendly, making us feel welcome and looked after throughout our stay. We also really admired the hotel's blend of modern amenities with classic decor. We stayed in the Birdcage room and it completely blew us away! The room was immaculate and very spacious, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer! We left feeling refreshed and content. Highly recommend the Woolacombe Bay Hotel to anyone looking for a special and memorable getaway!

We pop in now and again for a tea and a coffee and absolutely love sitting either near the bar or in any area we choose and there is lots of choice, very plush and relaxing. The terrace by the Bistro faces the lawn towards the sea and it’s really nice to sit out there on a sunny day. Staff in the Bistro all very professional and friendly.

We had dinner here, langoistines were on the specials so 2 of us had them. Never tried before, they were a bit trickier than prawns but well worth the effort! Very well cooked and presented, even the new potatoes were some of the best I have tasted. Only constructive feedback is that a finger bowel could be provided with langoistines and some additional paper towels :)

I recently stayed at Osborne Hotel in Torquay, and unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing from start to finish. First Impressions & Check-In At check-in, the receptionist, Emily, demanded a £100 fee without any clear explanation of what it was for. When I asked, she simply said that if I didn’t pay, I wouldn’t be given a room. This approach was cold, unfriendly, and completely unprofessional. It left me feeling unwelcome from the very beginning. Birthday Stay Overlooked I had emailed in advance to mention that I would be celebrating my birthday here. In other hotels around the world, staff always make at least a small gesture — a note, a kind word, or even a “happy birthday.” Osborne Hotel did nothing at all. After being out the whole day, I returned to find no acknowledgment whatsoever. What should have been a special and memorable stay instead felt ignored and forgotten. Housekeeping & Cleanliness The housekeeping was unacceptable. Most staff seemed untrained, perhaps students working temporarily, with no knowledge of proper hospitality. During almost a full week: My room was never hoovered. Towels were not replaced, just re-folded. Sheets were never changed. Cleaning was limited to dropping off toiletries. Basic cleanliness and guest care were simply ignored. Breakfast Experience Breakfast was very poor and lacked variety. It consisted of a very basic English breakfast — with no fresh options such as tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, cheese, or even a boiled egg. The menu offered a few dishes to order, but the taste was terrible (the poached egg, for example, came with a sauce so strong it was inedible). The coffee was even worse: just weak, watered-down filter coffee. If you wanted a proper coffee, such as a latte or espresso, you had to pay extra — something that should be standard in any hotel breakfast. This made the whole experience feel cheap and cost-cutting. Adding to this, the atmosphere was cold. Staff never smiled, greeted, or said good morning. The only exception was a lady named (I believe) Shandika, who was consistently warm and welcoming to all guests. Her kindness stood out in an otherwise unfriendly environment. Facilities The hotel facilities were another disappointment: The indoor swimming pool had cold water, making it unpleasant to use. The sauna was out of order. The outdoor pool was heated, but poorly positioned — surrounded by trees, meaning that in the afternoon there was hardly any sun, and guests spent most of the time in shade. It felt like poor planning with no consideration for the guest experience. Room Quality The room I was given felt like the worst in the hotel. Instead of a view, it looked out onto the back with only stairs in sight — not even a garden, not even greenery. This was especially frustrating since I had informed the hotel about my birthday in advance, hoping for at least a decent room. For a hotel that advertises itself as four-star, the amenities were shockingly poor. There were no slippers, no bathrobes, and not even a simple sewing kit provided in the room — all of which are standard expectations in a true four-star hotel. The lack of these basics reinforced the impression that the Osborne Hotel is cutting corners wherever possible. General Impression The hotel feels like it is running on a survival budget, cutting corners on every aspect of service, training, and facilities. The only redeeming feature was the view and panorama, but even that cannot justify the lack of hospitality, poor service, and basic guest care. Final Thoughts What should have been a memorable birthday stay turned into one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. From the rude reception to the lack of cleanliness, poor breakfast and coffee, broken facilities, missing amenities, and complete indifference to special requests, I cannot recommend Osborne Hotel. 👉 Do not book this hotel.

We popped in today for a drink and little bit of lunch . My daughter is coeliac so can be tricky finding places to cater for her safely . As I went in to check the food , I was greeted by Oliver who was friendly and so helpful ! He checked the menu with the kitchen and let me know what could be done for her . She chose what she wanted and nothing was any trouble for them . Bar staff outside could do with speeding up a little , 2 people behind the bar but only 1 serving when there was about 5 people waiting . Other than that , a lovely afternoon in the sun and a nice surprise of some music too , the 2 singers were great !

Excellent hotel in a scenic location. It's at the top of a hill so, unless you really enjoy climbing, there's a couple of regular bus services and taxis back up from the town are around £6 plus tip. Beautiful views from the terrace bar. The food is really good. If you're not there on holiday don't expect fast service but enjoy and relax. The staff are great. Very helpful on reception. There are lots of facilities. Even an imperfect but fun putting green. Borrow the putters from reception. The hotel was busy but there's an overflow carpark so no struggle to park.

I just wanted to share an update, as I am presently in the middle of a stay at the Hotel. This evening I had a 'Special' in the restaurant (although ate it in the bar whilst working on my laptop). It was the Pork tenderloin. It was simply the best meal I can remember eating for the last 5 years at least. Absolutely out of this world. I was savouring every bite, as I didn't want it to finish! Had a lovely relaxing week here ,very clean and well apointed rooms Fantastic location ,good tennis court and outdoor pool area ,friendly staff Only slight negative was the evening meal menu ,fairly limited choice and lack of atmosphere in restraunt not helped by staff noisily setting up for next morning breakfast , Instead we eat out in Torquay.

With family visiting from the USA it was the perfect venue for afternoon tea. The service was quick, friendly and efficient. The White Room has lovely views of the sea, and it exudes luxury. My cousin was blown away with the experience! Thank you to everyone who looked after us so well.

Had a special birthday lunch at this hotel with a small family group. It's a beautiful hotel at a lovely location. Staff were friendly and efficient as we had drinks first in the lounge and then transferred to the dining room. The meal was amazing, both in it's unique options, and delicious flavors. Almost wished we could have stayed for dinner as well. I imagine staying at the hotel would be a treat, so must add it to my list of places to stay at.

Lovely location the hotel is quiet yet near to the coast and the town. The hotel is very clean lovely outdoor pool. The food is delicious and fabulous. I would like a balcony but I am really nit picking. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. I will definitely come again. You really can't fault it. I think the best hotel I have stayed in in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Had a another lovely holiday here. Taken into town by Rolls Royce. Just fabulous 👌

I went for Sunday lunch with friends and we sat on the patio area outside, because we had a dog with us. The service was so attentive, so friendly, absolutely wonderful. The food was excellent; I eat plant-based and I had a lovely meal. my friends really enjoyed their food too. The views were outstanding of Sidmouth, the sea, the red cliffs and famous thatched houses at the front. We used the facilities in the hotel lobby, and it is so beautiful inside; flowers everywhere. I would highly recommend.

The best ticket in town for drinks on the terrace and a cream tea! Watching the sun go down over Sidmouth while sipping a cold glass of Ayala is one of the great pleasures of this classic hotel. Impeccable service from Deputy Manager Duncan and bar staff Luke. A real treat tonight with the addition of complimentary canapés a treat normally for residents. A great start to a Saturday night.

I went to Source Spa for the spa afternoon package and it was well-worth it! Fantastic service by the staff who made sure we knew what we were doing as well as where to go for the different pools and areas to relax. We were supplied with everything we needed and they were happy to supply fresh towels if needed. It wasn't too busy at the spa so it gave us time to enjoy the facilities and take our time trying out the different rooms or use the pools. Also had a brilliant spa treatment by Sadie who was very calming and friendly. I definitely felt more relaxed coming out than when I went going in! The cream tea was also fantastic, and a brilliant way to top off the experience. Really recommend a spa day (or afternoon!) if you want a chance to relax and unwind from everyday life.

Glebe House is a charming Georgian vicarage located in East Devon, surrounded by picturesque greenery and a 15-acre smallholding. The property has been transformed into an inviting five-room guesthouse with a self-contained annexe, featuring bold colors, patterns, period fireplaces, freestanding baths, and original artwork. The eclectic design is inspired by Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant's Charleston aesthetic.
We had a 60th birthday meal there on Saturday evening. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left the attention and care given to us was exceptional. Every member of staff was professional and caring. We experienced the incredible taster menu. My goodness we were all blown away. The sourcing of ingredients is all local. The presentation is exceptional and the taste is simply divine. Thank you so much for making the evening memorable. Would highly recommend.
Moira T — Google review
Everything about Glebe House is amazing. As you sit outside having a pre-dinner drink, you look over the beautiful countryside. The rooms are stunning, with lovely coffee and fresh milk provided. And the food is just amazing as well. Cannot recommend this place enough.
Georgina B — Google review
Stayed here in 2024 and again in 2025 and they have managed to maintain exceptionally high standards of hospitality - huge kudos to the owners and the wonderful staff. House and gardens are beautifully kept. The local women who run the breakfast and housekeeping services are just amazing and so lovely to chat to. Food is consistently fantastic and it must be one of the last remaining ‘generous portion’ restaurants/bnbs. I was pregnant on the second visit and they went out of their way to accommodate corresponding dietary requirements. The views are lovely and the low key no fuss pool area is great too. You do have to get into the car to go to the beach / for a coastal walk but we found ourselves rushing back to the house anyway to enjoy the R&R! Looking forward to returning next year.
Emma C — Google review
We just had the most fantastic stay at Glebe House. The weather was at times very sunny, so we could explore the gardens, and very rainy, when we could indulge in the cosiness and beautiful surroundings of the house. The staff were charming without fail. The food was incredible, truly 10/10, fresh, local, beautifully cooked. I had some eating intolerances, and the chef dealt with them without a fuss, and with delicious alternatives. The room was lovely (Tulip Room), clean and cosy. The whole place smelled amazing. The art collection and interior design are outstanding. As an activity, we went on one of the walks mapped out in their welcome pack, and it was great, we saw some fantastic views and a lovely exploration of the local area. We will be returning, and will recommend it to everyone we know!
Sophia D — Google review
Absolutely incredible! My husband and I stayed two nights and easily could have stayed longer - the food was exceptional! The views from Glebe House are unbelievably beautiful and provide a very calming tonic! The only thing I would say (and not a negative by any means) is that if you are a fussy eater (which neither my husband or I am) there is no menu selection for supper and the tasting menu which worked well for us but not if there are certain things you don’t like!
Kate W — Google review
Just the best, we came for the second time yesterday after visiting a year ago and I still cannot stop thinking about the dishes! We will be coming back to Devon next year on holiday specifically to visit. Would suggest to anyone who would like a culinary experience like no other!

It is located in a picturesque countryside setting by the Millstone footbridge on the River Exe. This peaceful spot is perfect for enjoying a lazy Sunday lunch outside on the spacious patio next to the water during summertime.
We hired the downstairs space for a recent work summer event and it was absolutely brilliant. The location was beautiful, spacious with plenty of parking. We opted for the group buffet and the food was delicious with plenty of variety. The staff were friendly welcoming and so helpful - thanks Mill On The Exe! We will be back!

went for a visit with my friends while down visiting, and it’s safe to say it is the best sunday roast i have ever eaten. the beef is so soft it falls apart, everything is seasoned beautifully (the carrots are amazing), and it is a very good portion. the sticky toffee pudding was honestly to die for; i highly recommend. the service was swift, and our food was out quick! our waiter, Lee, was so funny, chatty and helpful. he made the experience even better. he made sure we had everything we needed and informed us about things we didn’t know. he’s brilliant!

I came back to this city for the first time in 20 years since I graduated, and this place still left the same lasting impression. The riverside seating and the cozy indoor atmosphere brought back so many memories. It feels just like the old days. Saunton Sands is a picturesque beach known for its wide bay and gentle waves, making it an ideal spot for both beginner and longboard surfers. The three-mile stretch of golden sands is backed by dunes and allows dogs year-round. Located near the village of Braunton, it serves as a gateway to the renowned golden coast of North Devon, attracting families, dog owners, and surf enthusiasts alike.
Ample car park with a good cafe. Camera controlled with easy pay card tap machines. Dogs on lead in car park but as soon as on beach or dunes they can roam free for miles. There are no council public toilets and I wouldn't say it was disabled easy. In all great place for dogs, fresh sea air and walking.

What a amazing and beautiful beach. It’s such a wonderful place to visit.. I love visiting again and again. The restaurant allocated on site were good. I would recommend the cleaning service to monitor the toilets more regularly. However the sunset in the evening was breathtaking.
Kulvinder J — Google review
Huge beautiful dog friendly sandy beach! The only thing that lets it down, like most UK beaches, is the public toilets - they are absolutely revolting - filthy and smell so bad you need a gas mask to enter!
Dan C — Google review
What a great Beach! The sun was out and the surf was up….kind of, we were here for August bank holiday Monday so got here at around 10am ….and at 10.30am they were heading up the road with the car park full/closed signs, so get here early. There is a great little beach hut cafe selling pasties and rolls , coffee etc also a little shop selling beach tat. There is also a restaurant there for the more refined palate. There is a surf shop and surf school for all your surfing needs. The beach itself was clean and massive! Check the tide times…at low tide it’s quite a walk to get to the sea. I took the kids body boarding which they loved…the waves were big enough without being scary and we never ventured over waist depth. It’s dog friendly so plenty of ankle biters yapping and changing around but not too much of a nuisance. We took our own gear but you can hire everything there if you want to, including windbreaks, chairs, even beach tents…they do a complete beach camp set up for £20 there’s even huts available for £30. All in all a fab day was had by all, topped off by having fish and chips at squires in nearby Braunton.
Dave ( — Google review
Beautiful place! This is the pictures of the dunes and you can walk for hours. Highly recommended but is a 2.5 mile walk to the beach from here. There is parking further up off the main road that takes you directly to the beach. The parking for the dunes was £2.50 which is fair and the sights are worth it. Just try to memorise way back

We had such a lovely visit to Saunton Sands Beach with our dog! The beach is absolutely beautiful – wide, sandy, and stretches on for miles. It’s the perfect place for a long walk, and our dog had the best time running free and splashing in the sea. It’s great to find a dog-friendly beach that’s also so clean and peaceful. The views are stunning and there’s plenty of space, even on a busy day. We’ll definitely be coming back – it’s a little slice of coastal paradise! 🐾🌊🐶

The inn's proximity to Bayards Cove Fort, the River Dart, and the South West Coast Path makes it an ideal base for exploring the area.
This is a beautifully redone 14th century building in the heart of Dartmouth. Exceptional service and staff. The food was fantastic, the rooms were historic and quaint (a tad small, but for 500+ years old, pretty nice). Stairway are tight, so not a place to stay if you have any mobility issues. Just loved our stay here.

Fantastic service, particularly Georgia who went above and beyond to make it an enjoyable meal for everyone. She was great with my little step-son :-) food was banging! Of course! Can’t comment on the rooms as we didn’t stay so giving them a five star based on the experience we had in the restaurant alone.

I booked in very last minute to stay while attending an event in town. I didn't have high expectations - since it was the last available room, at the height of summer and in a very busy spot, but I just needed somewhere to lay my head, so wasn't too fussed. Honestly, I was so impressed with everything! The lady who checked me in was SO sweet (I think called Georgia?) - carried my bag, showed me all the ropes and bought up some milk so I could have a coffee in the peace of my room, before heading out. My room (Beaty) was adorable, and everything you'd want from a rustic, historic Devon building. Being the hottest day of the year, I expected to get little sleep, but found an air conditioning unit in the wardrobe. It didn't 'cool' exactly, but did blow air around well, like a big fan. The bed was incredibly comfortable, I had to prise myself out of it come morning but could have lounged for hours happily. Breakfast (included in the room charge) was delicious and very, very generous. I got the veggie breakfast and it was all cooked beautifully. There was also juice and continental options available to help yourself. I had asked for an early check in and late check out, both of which were not a problem, and actually (accidentally) arrived even earlier than my early check in slot and my room was all ready for me. A stroke of luck! The little touches were so thoughtful: individually portioned ground coffee in the room, special wipes to remove make up, locally sourced soaps and they packed me off with a 'goody bag' of local fudge and water, for my day ahead. All in all, I highly recommend.

We popped in for lunch on Saturday 9th Aug, lovely bar and dining areas. Ordered the kids a Luxury Hot Choc each and I had a G&T with some of the local "Jack Speak" gin, which is very nice indeed. The Kids really enjoyed their Fish & Chips and the Mezze Board. The Ham and Cheese sandwich was great too. Staff were amazing, really friendly and the service was excellent. Can't recommemd this place highly enough. Definitely returning when next in Dartmouth.

Honestly, this is the BEST lodge i have been to, the rooms are super modern, the staff are so friendly, and the location is so peaceful, the lodges are by a nice lake with ducks and fish in, trees everywhere. Especially good at night in the hot tub. The only thing i would say is about the shop location, the closest shop is co-op which is 8 minutes away from Kentisbury Grange. But overall the best i could recommend!
Widget 2 — Google review
Certainly not the quality for value we were expecting. First and foremost, general maintenance leaves a lot to be desired. The French doors literally fell apart at the top, and there was blood on the floor of the main bathroom (or what I think is blood, check the photo and judge for yourself). We saw the cleaning team do another lodge while we were here, and it was certainly a quick, not thorough, job. The interior of the windows is really gross, and there are cobwebs everywhere. Also, from the first day to the last it was a fly cemetery. In terms of actual living, the king bed is basically just a massive pit where we were falling into one another all night long, and the pillows were either super flat or super lumpy. And they say you are able to cook anything in the kitchen, but it’s just missing too many items to be able to cook a meal for a family (unless you want two bites of pasta each). However, the location and property itself is fabulous and I’ve enjoyed being here with my family and dog just on the premise of being outdoors. Yet the railings feel like they are about to fall over, with the deck not much far behind it. Not sure how it would take a dog or a child running or falling on the railings. Also, we had a lovely mouse friend show up. We’ve affectionately named him Roland.

Beautiful setting staff very helpful friendly But our garden room was filthy covered in dead bugs and cobwebs fridge empty. Only to be told oh we aren't using them anymore for guests . Still charging full price tho £ 182.00 for a dirty room No apology. No anything our night away fir our 20th wedding anniversary. So sad cos the food excellent. No way I'd recommend.

We visit North Devon on an annual basis, but wanted to try somewhere different for a Sunday roast. After a Google search we found Kentisbury Grange. It’s a lovely picturesque setting and worth the drive to get there. The food was lovely and initially the service was spot on. Our only gripe was that the service was slow between our main and dessert courses. Great value overall though.

Best place ever, went on vacation to England. Definitely worth staying if you love birds especially ducks, recommend bringing dried worms for them. Rooms are great, bath and shower, washing machine, fridge and freezer and just such a beautiful area. Services are really good, lovely people just a bit of waiting and a few mistakes but things happen.

Overall we had an amazing stay at Kentisbury Grange. The staff on site were very nice and professional. The main restaurant building is nice and the food very good. Cheap EV charging on site was a bonus and the site is very dog friendly. We had a garden room with a hot tub (which was great). The room had a lovely design but in places the room and surrounding areas could do with a refurbishment. The only main downside was the bath tap spilled directly onto the floor and the shower was blocked causing the bathroom to partially flood. We did report it but it didn’t get seen to.
TheSmithy6247 — Google review
Stayed for a week in a two bedroom lodge. Overall had a fabulous time and would possibly go again but it wasn't perfect. The lodges are spacious and very relaxing but could use a bit of maintenance. The tech is showing it's age. Radio reception was zero so all you could do was play cds if you had any, stereo had an iPhone Dock but for the original iPhone/iPod! Tv not smart so you couldn't set up your netflix account or anything. Kitchen was very nice and bedrooms and shower/bath were very good. On arrival the sound bar was not connected to the tv and the dvd player wasn't at all. Minor things but easy fixes to make it better for a rainy day. Absolutely loved the house and grounds and all the wildlife around the ponds, especially all the bats at dusk. Was always nice for a walk around with the dog. We didn't use the restaurant much. The breakfast was fab though and not too expensive. Service at the bar / checkin was slow as not that many staff. But was in no rush and the staff were very helpful. No vegan options for dinner when we visited so we didn't. I loved the location short drives to Ilfracombe or Lynton/Lynmouth and easy access to the whole of north Devon. But you do need to drive *everywhere*, there was no walks at all anywhere from the grange itself, even the local pub was 30 minute walk along an A-road with no footpaths so that might be a factor for some. Overall 8 / 10 for me

Been there a few times my wife had a flea on her while sitting in the bar area, cheese and tomato ham and cucumber sandwich but no cucumber or tomato and the bread bread was stale, french fries were anemic, soup of the day is always tomato the staff joked about this! no homemade bread role with my meal waiter said there wasn't one with it but when he checked the menu he saw there should have been no apology! Recomended by Peter Andre though who was he again?oh i remember Katy prices ex husband.Went three times been there done that glad i didn't stay.

Was given a voucher for my retirement for afternoon tea with Prosecco. My husband and I have been several times for lunch and been so impressed with the food and service, however, came away Sunday very disappointed with the food, and the service was atrocious. The staff were friendly but we had to keep having to find a member of staff everytime we wanted something ie glass of water and tea for our afternoon tea. The selection of cakes were poor, the lemon and poppy seed was very firm, the carrot cake was ginger cake and a piece of rocky road, not what I expected. The sandwiches were ok, could nit taste the chutney on the cheese sandwich, the scones were lovely. This was not value for money.

I called to reserve a table for 20 people on a Saturday in November, only to be told, “We’re already fully booked; we host weddings most weekends.” As if I’m stupid to even be calling. The woman on the phone was incredibly rude, and her tone made it clear she was eager to hang up.

Burgh Island is a small tidal island known for its Art Deco hotel, pub, and scenic footpaths that offer stunning views of the ocean. The iconic 1930s white building of Burgh Island Hotel features 25 ensuite guest bedrooms and suites, two restaurants, a sauna, and a billiards hall. It's a popular destination for those seeking fine dining experiences at seafood restaurants, bistros, brasseries, food pubs, and cafes in the nearby area of Bigbury on Sea.
Island of Mysteries (BURGH ISLAND): Exploring the Beach and Secrets of Burgh Island. A tidal island on the coast of South Devon in England near the small seaside village of Bigbury-on-Sea, with picturesque beach and scenic views. Visitors can walk across the causeway at low tide or experience a unique sea tractor crossing when the tide is high. The island is strongly associated with Agatha Christie, who used it as inspiration for her novels "And Then There Were None" and "Evil Under the Sun." The Art Deco Burgh Island Hotel's design is a standout feature, offering a glimpse into the past. A must-visit charming island!🏝️

Another favourite place for us to visit. Access to the island is via tidal causeway across the sand or by sea tractor when the tide is in. Access to the hotel is prohibited (guests only) but you can walk around the island. There's the Pilchard Inn Pub where you can get a pint or something to eat. The island is famous and has starred in many movies and TV shows. Probably best known as the setting of Agatha Christie's "Evil Under The Sun"

We did walk across to the island at low tide and was quite surprised at how wide the beach was. I do remember David Suchet, Hercule Poirot on TV back in 2001. I must say it's a beautiful place.

It is one of the best places to visit in the area. Check the tide chart and plan accordingly the time of arrival and departure from the island. There is a great fireplace in the pub. On a bright day the vistas from the top of the hill are not to be missed. The car park is a bit of a gamble, but there is overflow parking as well. Enjoy.
Orlin H — Google review
A great hotel and inn. Always accessible even at high tide, because of the coolest tractor.

Oh my goodness, we found this place by accident and it was worth it. The view to come to this place is to die for. There are a lot of places for you to park your vehicle. Many locals come here to walk their dogs. You don’t have to pay to come to the island. Having said that when the tide is in you might have to use a local transport provided to cross the sea to the island and it’s pretty nifty it is a family friendly place to visit. The island itself is pretty small, but it has a great view and it’s worth it for you to climb the top of the hill to see the surrounding area.
Shane — Google review
Pick a day with low tide about 1pm. Just walk across to this impressive island & enjoy a pint or a wak to the top of the island. Only part of the island is reserved for hotel guests. The bay has a fantastic beach. At buisy times use the £5 all day field car park & walk down rather than fighting to find an official parking space next to the beach. Beautiful place worth the winedy road drive.

Situated in the heart of Torquay, The Imperial Torquay is a clifftop hotel offering airy rooms and a range of amenities. Guests can enjoy spa services, fitness facilities, and dining with stunning sea views. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of attractions such as Living Coasts Zoo and Inner Harbour Marina. Nature lovers will appreciate its proximity to natural sights like Oddicombe Shingle Beach, Kents Cavern prehistoric caves, and Beacon Cove.
My wife and I spent 4 nights at the Imperial. The room was very spacious and the view over the Bay from the balcony stunning. We even saw a dolphin quite close by in the Bay. We had a fantastic stay and will definitely return.

Unfortunately, our stay was very disappointing. The room felt outdated, with a strong smell from dirty carpets and a balcony that was not clean. Hallways were also stained and unpleasant. While the bed was comfortable and the view beautiful, the extra bed for our daughter was too low and placed directly on the dirty carpet, which made it hard to enjoy the stay. The restaurant was another letdown — my birthday dinner was confusing, the menu unclear, and we were overcharged due to mistakes on the bill. Service was slow and the staff seemed lost, while the food quality, especially the steak, did not justify the high prices. The minimum two-course policy felt forced. Breakfast offered variety but lacked quality. The pool and changing areas were unclean, and overall the hotel felt like it had not been properly cared for in decades. Reception staff tried to appear professional but came across awkward, and when we left a day early we weren’t allowed to get a refund for the unused night. This place may have been beautiful years ago, but now it desperately needs renovation and better management. Sadly, we wouldn’t return.

We booked last minute due to a change of plans. The hotel gave is a very spacious room on the ground floor, area designated to dogs. It was great, we had a little private patio with direct access to a large garden with views of the bay, it was really nice. At breakfast, since dogs are not accepted in the restaurant, we seat in the bar area, it was great, all for us. Some areas if the hotel are a bit dated but overall is good. The bed was super king and comfortable.

Beautiful old girl of a hotel and an absolute icon. Sadly really showing it’s age and in places it’s beyond tired and close to exhausted. Must be a massive undertaking for the owners to try and keep it going. Restaurant and food is exceptional in a setting that’s hard to beat. Would be great to see this lovely grand hotel back to its former glory. Food……. exceptional Rooms…..tired Staff lovely. Room staff exceptionally helpful. Overall it still has a little bit of shine left. R

We reserved a 3 PM Agatha Christie themed tea. Lovely hotel inside, lovely view from the sunroom. Although our table was reserved, we didn’t have the appropriate settings for three. The food was mediocre, although the tea itself was delicious. The server was inattentive and not very knowledgeable, it seemed. We also noted an elderly, frail gentleman at another table, hoping to get service. But, when we checked at the bar, they said they don’t do table service. They weren’t even willing to go and talk to him, although we mentioned how frail he seemed and he was obviously resident at the hotel. Also, music was supposed to be heard during our tea. There was none, although there was a pianist slumped over the piano when we first went in. Very disappointing and I would not encourage the organizers of the Agatha Christie festival to recommend this venue again. at least, not until they make some major changes.

The location is fantastic. What amazing views from the hotel room balcony. The rooms themselves are looking a bit tired these days and the lack of useful power outlets and air con are likely to annoy people (bring a long charger!). It's worth noting that housekeeping do an absolutely amazing job and the rooms are extremely clean and tidy. We went during a heatwave and the lack of a light sheet and/or fan was a bit annoying. Luckily we could throw the balcony door wide open after dark which brought the room down to a sleepable temperature.

We went to have a meal and they offered us still water, which we thought was free but they actually charged us 4.50 for it.. and they forced us to have two courses which then cost us another 35 when we only wanted one course each. Would not go here again. They also charged us for grey goose vodka when we asked for absolut vodka… good service just not very clear at all

What a superb stay. Around 30 of us descended on the The Imperial for a big birthday party which was being held locally. Everyone seemed to really enjoy it and personally I found the rooms, decor and service exceptional. The sea view has got to be one of the best in the world on a sunny day. Worth every single penny in opting for this. The breakfast is great value and worth having for sure. The outside needs some fresh paint (it would make a big difference) and it's a real shame the outside pool was closed but at the cost of the stay it still makes for 5 stars in terms of value. A special mention to Amy on Reception, she went above and beyond to organise a late night bar for us at short notice. Impressive service and a credit to the hotel.

Just returned from another fabulous 3 night break staying in a deluxe room & again can’t fault it. The room and hotel itself was spotlessly clean. All the staff we encountered were engaging & helpful. We were lucky with the weather & although the tables on the terrace were not set for breakfast there was no hesitation in laying a table when we requested if it was possible to eat outside. The area around the pop up bar, Cloud Nine, is a sunny spot to relax & enjoy an afternoon drink. Thanks to all the staff we had a great stay & see you soon.

Stayed in room 2 for one night. The room itself was clean, well maintained and well furnished, however it was small, with a tiny bathroom. The balcony was gorgeous, and the view was absolutely beautiful - rain or shine it was the place to be! The hotel unfortunately lacks a pool or hot tub, which I believe to have been closed around Covid - this is a shame. Many smaller and cheaper hotels have at least a hot tub available. There are spa treatments available (massages/facials etc) at an additional cost, and a gym (free) which has recently re-opened. The communal areas of the hotel are very clean and well kept, and the staff seemed friendly and helpful. I did have a major issue with room service however. The hotel info states you can order sandwiches etc 24 hours, however there is no room service menu available, and I dialled 0 at least 5 times (between 7.30pm - 8pm) with no reply - the line just rang out each time. Everyone is looking for something different from a hotel stay, but for me personally, I had an average experience for a premium price - the location and view are amazing, but don't quite make up for the gaps in facilities and service.

Everything about this hotel is fantastic. The location overlooking the harbour is perfect. The hotel itself has been refurbished to an extremely high standard the decor is tasteful creating a wonderful ambience. We stayed in a King room with a view of the harbour . The bed was really comfortable the room spotlessly clean, the bathroom was spacious and high quality toiletries were provided. The breakfast was first class lots of choice and good quality ingredients. The staff couldnt be more accommodating or cheerful. We would definitely return and would highly recommend to family and friends. Jane and Tyrel Bennett

Beautiful setting so decided to see if we could book a table for dinner. The lady that greeted us was so rude as was her manager. We were shown to a table and the restaurant was empty. We then heard both of the staff members mumbling under their breathe at the inconvenience as we weren't booked in the hotel. This was very unprofessional and made us feel uncomfortable so we upped and left. The hotel and restaurant look amazing. Staff need to be more welcoming. I hate posting negativity. But feel that the management should be aware.

The family-run hotel, owned by chefs Neil and Catherine Dallen, boasts 14 uniquely designed rooms and a renowned restaurant serving locally sourced dishes. Guests can enjoy afternoon tea in the cheerful Orestone Manor Restaurant, which has been awarded 2 AA Rosettes.
Really lovely place. We found an offer they had on for dinner, breakfast and stay with a hot tub and so glad we decided to go for it. It was a gem of a place. The coach house was spotless and the hot tub with a view was lovely. The hotel was decorated so nicely and the food was incredible. Would definitely viait again!

Please be aware: I'm going to be thorough. Arriving from the north there was a very sharp hairpin bend to take you down to Orestone Manor (with slightly dated signage). No problem with ample parking spaces but the area could've done with a little TLC, especially as it's a 4Star establishment. Frontage was pleasant but slightly spoilt by clutter of signage and barriers. Reception was excellent (friendly, personable, professional and informative), as were the attitudes of other staff we met on the way to our room. Please don't get me wrong, everything was fine, but, it's just starting to edge into the "tired" zone with alot of pointless/uninspiring hanging pictures around the place. The room was at the top of the building, lovely views, peaceful and comfortable, though again a neither/neither (and a few too many signs around~ maybe just keep them in the welcome book). Again, all staff seemed friendly and good at their job, but let down by basics...like...breakfast. Each step was adequate, again, not what I'd expect from 4☆. Everything is done in miniature: half size croissants, cheap jams, twice cooked sausage and streaky bacon, half a small tomato and half a mushroom and small sliced toast (O.J and coffee both on the cheap side). Unfortunately we missed out on an evening meal, I would've liked to experience what was on offer. Overall either a great 6/10 or a disappointing 7/10 and I apologise, but please bear in mind, this is only 1 persons review. It really is a great location, especially for peace and tranquility and it could easily be elevated (without much effort).

Visited the terrace conservatory overlooking the gardens for an afternoon tea, giving excellent views across the gardens and out to sea, it was nice and quiet and were welcomed and seated by the windows... The service was excellent, friendly attentive staff who looked after us. We didn't have to wait long after our tea was brought out, the selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones were delicious. You can even choose your finger sandwich flavours ( we didn't like coronation chicken ) One thing I would have liked was a choice of teas however the tea was unlimited and we had a fresh pot halfway through our cakes! I liked the fresh strawberries touch. £25 per head ( Sept 25 ) was good value and the food quality was very good...with one exception - the scones themselves. They were dry and would have been better warmed but there was lashings of jam and clotted cream to compensate. There is a large terrace and lounge for all visitors to enjoy, there wasn't a hint of being rushed which was fantastic. I could have lounged around all afternoon. Would definitely recommend, didn't stay over but they do have 14 guest rooms, a cost bar and holiday accommodation.

Wanted a quiet boutique type hotel with excellent service and food. We were not disappointed. Our room was excellent, quiet rural location albeit close to many well known locations. Service was faultless and there is a superb lounge and outside patio balcony. Because it's a small hotel plenty of room for all. As an aside one evening ate in a well known local fish restaurant. Also had something similar at Orestone Manor a day or two after. Orestone's was far superior for both courses. Highly recommend and will be returning.

First visit but really enjoyed it, Excellent food and service. Room was very clean and comfortable and loved their idea of bottles of water available in fridge on landing. One minor comment though, room had one of the best hairdryers available but unfortunately (like quite a few other places) there was no convenient electrical socket near the mirror to sit and dry hair. However we will undoubtedly return.

I apologise that I've only scored 5 stars, it should be at least 10. One of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. Admittedly we had one of the cottages with a Jacuzzi, it was fantastic. From the moment to arriving, with a lovely friendly greeting. We were taken to our cottage, everything was explained to us and how to use the various options. The food was spectacular and catered for our tastes. A good drinks selection and reasonable prices. The waiting staff, were friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. We will definitely book to stay again in the near future and hopefully for 2 nights next time. Highly, highly, highly recommended.

The hotel is rather lovely with good views, a lovely garden and terrace, It was so peaceful and quite outside. The food in the restaurant was truely excellent, genuinely one of the best dining experiences I've had in years and good value at the price offered. The staff were helpful and friendly. Our room was apparently the smallest in the hotel and so was rather simple so as to not make it feel crowded, we found it to be clean and perfectly well equiped. The shower was a decent size for me at 6'3.

The Grand Hotel offers classic seafront accommodations with elegant dining and fitness facilities. Whether it's a casual party or an elegant wedding, the hotel provides mouth-watering finger buffet catering at local venues like Torre Abbey. The hotel is located near excellent shops, art galleries, and the marina, offering guests a variety of shopping options. However, parking can be challenging during peak times, so it's advisable to plan ahead.
I first stayed at The Grand Hotel in March 2025 and loved it so much, I returned in April! 🤣 It’s ideally located right next to Torquay train station, which makes it super convenient if you’re arriving by rail. That said, it’s a bit of a walk from the coach station – something to bear in mind if you’re coming in that way. From the outside, the building shows a bit of age, but don’t be fooled – inside is charming and well-kept. One of the real highlights is the Compass Bar, with a stunning compass on the ceiling and breathtaking views of the sea. I spent quite a bit of time there just taking it all in. The front desk staff were lovely – very friendly and welcoming. On my second visit, they even remembered me, which was such a nice touch and made me feel genuinely valued. During my first stay, I booked a sea view room with breakfast included, and I was completely blown away. The room was beautifully decorated – I especially liked the cute wallpaper – and the view of the sea was absolutely mesmerising. The bathroom was clean and functional, though it could do with a little TLC. I don’t usually spend much time in the room while travelling, but on this occasion, I found myself enjoying a drink while watching the waves roll in – bliss! On my second stay, I was given a more compact room at the back of the building, and to my surprise, I actually found it even more comfortable. It was perfectly quiet, with no neighbouring rooms, which made it a really peaceful retreat. I also treated myself to their afternoon tea as well as a quick cream tea by the outdoor pool – the scones and clotted cream were absolutely delicious, and the setting was just lovely. The hotel also has an indoor pool, which I didn’t use on this trip but will definitely try next time. All in all, The Grand Hotel has become a firm favourite of mine. It offers beautiful views, great service, and plenty of charm – I’m already looking forward to my next visit! 💕

The room was large and comfortable enough. There was dog food from previous guest that we had to ask to be removed two or three times. The staff were friendly enough on reception, but the bar staff seemed a little inattentive and could be easy to feel ignored. Breakfast was nice but felt a little repetitive after a week, but it was freshly prepared. We would stay again if we were to visit Torquay again and we would recommend.

Very pleasant staff, very helpful the over all impression when you enter is that it is well kept however this is the first impression from the reception. Staff uniforms could be good to be updated or at least look new, one lady waiting tables had ladders up her tights every morning at breakfast. The indoor pool had grime all around the edge and they had painted over the original tiles to make it feel clean but it wasn’t. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. The hotel and staff needs to get some love and attention it would be a shame not to care about this place

I find no pleasure in writing a relatively negative review. However - sometimes, I believe it is called for! Firstly - I acknowledge the positive/favourable reviews. But this is a personal judgement based on MY experience. We decided to treat ourselves to a Suite - pricey, but we thought we deserved it! What an expensive mistake! It was, to be sure, spacious, with 2 reasonably sized bedrooms - and two bathrooms - very nice! But it was, otherwise, bland and characterless. Some of the furniture appeared shabby and tired. Our suite was named after one of my favourite composers - Edward Elgar - personally, I think it insulted him!! The evening meals ranged from good to dreadful - I had a steak that would have been better off on the sole of my shoe. We felt cheated and, VERY let down. Quite frankly, I felt as though I'd been "ripped off". Some treat!!!! On the plus side - and to be fair - most of the staff were very friendly and accommodating, but, at times, there didn't seem to be enough of them. We will NEVER go back there! I only wish we could have been as satisfied as those who have been kinder, and, more positive. We left a day early, because we'd had enough. However - we had to pay for the full extent of the booking. It had to be honoured - but it hurt!

We were very excited about trip to the beach however our room was not cleaned properly and the swimming pool changing rooms were a disaster. Toilet roll everywhere and chewing gum in the sowers. I reported it to reception, saying they clean it everyday but the following morning it was still in the same state! To add to this the following morning a maintenance man tried to come in our room unannounced saying there was leak. I wouldn’t have minded a phone call but we were fast asleep which was a surprise! I have to say the dining room dinner was very good however and the only good about the place. I reported the room to the manager and had no review. I would definitely recommend doing an Airbnb instead until they improve their standards!

Located right by the beach (across a main road) in Torquay, right by the station. Great spot. But so is premier inn, which would have been cheaper than this. Our room had so many different slanty walls that sitting in the bathroom legitimately started making me feel dizzy. The room was tiny, no actual space to move. It was insanely hot, with only a tiny fan to help out. It was a very hot weekend, but the lack of air con was very problematic, for a predominantly summer destination. The shower curtain was mouldy. We had to ask for a hair drier since the attachment for one was in the room, but not an actual hair drier. We had rung down to reception. It arrived a few hours later. We were woken at 7am by the shattering sounds of all the glass recycling being dumped into a truck outside our window that was lovely. Dinner was lovely and acceptably priced and the service staff were also lovely, no issues. We did not use the swimming pools/gym/spa so no comment there. All in all, I'd have rather spent less to go to the premier Inn across the road which would be consistent rooms, not mouldy, and have air con. This was a good example of why "local" seaside hotels are struggling. There's nothing Grand about this hotel.

The Headland Hotel & Spa in Torquay is a former Russian royal residence offering luxurious rooms, an indoor pool, and beautiful gardens. Guests can enjoy a romantic weekend getaway package with access to the spa and stunning views. The hotel's location allows for lovely walks and a delightful evening meal experience. However, some guests have noted issues with the spa facilities and noise disturbances from events at the hotel.
I had the most gorgeous afternoon at the Headland Hotel in Torquay. From start to finish, it was pure bliss. We enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing swim in the hydro pools, the perfect way to unwind and soak up the calming atmosphere. Afterwards, we treated ourselves to an amazing fresh cream tea — everything was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The experience was made even more special by the beaming, friendly staff who looked after us so warmly, with kind smiles and fantastic service. Every moment felt effortless and full of genuine care. Stayed here with my friend for one night. The food was really lovely and all the staff was very helpful and friendly. Had a lovely three course meal and breakfast in the morning which was nice it was in a lovely part of Torquay with a lovely view. However our room was out dated we was in room 176. There was very noticeable stains on the carpets, lots of mould around the windows and it did smell damp in there . Unfortunately didn’t notice till we stripped the beds for the cleaner but we noticed both me and my friends pillow had mould on the bottom. And there was a hole in one of the matresees. Just think it could do with better attention to detail. The spa was nice but no robes provided which would have been better. The changing and shower room wasn’t the cleanest.

Beautiful hotel, great views, really lovely breakfast. Just the room itself let us down as it was very dated and lacked finishing touches. Also find £15 per night dog charge steep, £15 per stay would feel more justified. Worth noting if you are a young couple that the hotel clientele did resemble a retirement home however this didn’t bother us

We met friends there last week for the evening. The seating area close to the bar is very nice and extremely comfortable. The service by the bar staff was extremely good - very polite and cheerful. Made you feel welcome. It has been decorated since our last visit and it has been very well done, and to a high standard. Our friends who were staying there said that their room was very comfortable and the restaurant service was good and the menu choices were very good indeed.

Nice place with plenty of free parking for paying residents. About 20minute walk into the centre or 5 minute taxi. Be aware Uber won't pick up from this location for some reason. Rooms nice but lacked air conditioning and no fan either so lost 2 stars for that. Had a seagull giving it the big one at 03:30 so had to shut the window as wouldn't go away due to his nest below my windows. Had to go to my van to get my portable fan out as the room was so warm and not supplied just to get another hours sleep. Would stay again but will take my own fan in at the start in future.

Great location, however parking haphazard and inadequate for amount of guests, got blocked in several times in a disabled space. On arrival receptionist was quite aloof and I asked what rooms were available she said your in the only one available, was unsuitable as shower difficult to get into, spoke with reception and she told us there was one on ground floor! We got stuck in the lift on arrival and it took them 15 minutes to assist and acknowledge us. The spa was lovely so relaxing and not busy during the evening, the changing room light was out. Food was very average but service was fantastic.

Affordable hotel. Very friendly staff, several pensioners vacation here which gave a warm and pleasant feeling in the dinner service. Older style in both hotel and room. Uncomfortable beds. Small breakfast buffet. The hotel is located about 10 minutes from the harbor where most restaurants and experiences are located. Works to walk or take a car but very hilly. Recommend if you want an affordable hotel with walks to attractions!

Took my mother here for a Devon Cream Tea on the terrace. Dog friendly outside and lovely atmosphere and views. Dogs not allowed inside, so be aware of that if you are bringing your furry friend.

Premier Inn Paignton Seafront (Goodrington Sands) hotel offers modern budget rooms with seafront views and a pub-style restaurant. The hotel provides family-sized rooms and free Wi-Fi, making it convenient for travelers. While the cooked breakfast is considered excellent value, some guests found the continental breakfast to have limited options. The restaurant area offers sea views, but service for evening meals can be slow.
A great stay for a special family occasion. We had 4 rooms all with amazing sea views one with extra beds for young children and one with a baby cot. All comfortable and clean. We booked the meal package each day and reception helped us organise all the bookings. Great service from the reception staff and from the bar staff dealing with the large evening meal orders. A special mention and a big thank you to Emma on reception for all her help, advice and friendly service, she is a credit to the Premier Inn company.

I stay in premier inn a lot. This was a nicer one. I got a free up grade to a sea view which was nice. Although the view at the back of the hotel left a bad taste in my mouth. The walls where unclean and grubby. I could see the side of the restaurant so had half a sea view, half restaurant view. But it was still nice. I loved the placement of the bath. I could have a bath and see the sea from the bath which was brilliant! The food in the restaurant was nice. The signal isn't great but enough to make phone calls. The room was comfortable and quiet (despite being next to the restaurant on a Friday night) and the air con was brilliant.
Gemma G — Google review
Location was excellent and rooms were very good but I've marked the service down because of the restaurant. Service was below what I expected. Empty plates left on the tables and debris on the floor. I Had to prompt the waiting staff more than once. The food was good so no complaints there.
Kevin R — Google review
The staff are lovely, the rooms clean and comfy as you'd expect, and The location ideal but there is no getting round the fact that if you book on your mobile there is no way you could know that there is NO LIFT to half the rooms. The family rooms are up 40 steps and whilst the staff tried to convince me the website says there is no lift the mobile booking page definitely does not and instead says claims this site is "accessible" Be aware, it is not. If you want one of their fully accessible rooms you need to call and make this clear to them.

A huge thank you to the lovely lady on reception (3pm on 18/8, long brown hair). This was our very first trip away with our autistic son, and checking in was hard for him as he became quite distressed. She was so kind, sharing her own experience as a parent, which instantly put me at ease. She even went the extra mile to change our room so he’d have the perfect window view. It completely calmed him—he spent the evening happily watching the beach, which turned our stressful start into a really special holiday. That thoughtful gesture has left us smiling and will definitely bring us back, even though we’re over two hours away!
Jess R — Google review
Great location right on the beach. Paying extra for a sea view was a little cheeky as the window was tiny. No aircon so unbearably hot in the heat had to ask for a fan. Lots and lots and lots of stairs so make sure you are fit and healthy. Check in with the guy on reception was embarrassing he was completely clueless and disinterested took payment from the wrong card and couldn't be bothered to check what he had done so we had to stand at the desk and check our accounts. He didn't tell us where our room was we had to ask and we had to figure out where breakfast was for ourselves. On leaving there was a woman in front of the desk we said we were checking out she said just leave your key there, no "did you have a nice stay" no goodbye, barely looked at us.

Lovery place to visit, challenging walk into town. Good rooms, staff shortages impacted service levels but an enjoyable stay none the less.
Alan — Google review
Lo ation is fantastic overlooking the bay. The outside is tired and needs a lick of paint. No netting so if eating outside, be prepared to lose your dinner to the seagulls!! It now has a small area inside where you can sit with your dogs. This needs to be bigger as right on the dog beach

Hotel du Vin Exeter is a stylish and sophisticated hotel housed in a beautifully converted red-brick former hospital near the cathedral. The hotel offers chic, contemporary rooms, an upscale restaurant, and a trendy lounge bar. Guests can indulge in relaxation at the spa and take advantage of the heated outdoor pool set in tranquil walled gardens.
We were down in Exeter attending our daughter's graduation and she'd booked a table her in advance, not to be disappointed on-the-day with not being to find anywhere decent to have a celebratory meal. The venue and meal didn't disappoint and we had a lovely time on a very special occasion. We had various starters and desserts but all decided to have the beef mains. The cut of meat was beautiful and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

Many hotels advertise themselves as "dog friendly," but often that just means "dogs are allowed." However, we had a genuinely great experience at this hotel with our dog. She's a nervous rescue and can be reactive at times, but all the staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. Thanks to them, we were able to relax for once in a public space with her. The service in both the restaurant and bar was excellent—everyone was polite, professional, and friendly. Reception was also great, with the exception of the manager, to be honest. The room itself was a bit dusty and could’ve been cleaner, but the facilities were excellent, it wasn't missing a detail, and the bed was very comfortable. They also provided food and water bowls for the doggy, a dog bed, and even a little welcome bag with treats, a toy, and poo bags. Top notch. Overall, we were very happy with the experience and would absolutely recommend it to other dog owners.

Stayed for one night. Nice room with very comfortable bed at a very reasonable price. The pool was an added benefit and it does have a small inside bit to swim in with jacuzzi jets. Lovely breakfast. Worth booking the £20 parking before you arrive

Spent two days here for a company meeting. The conference facilities were 1st class. The food for meeting was very good with a few choices. Booking in was very quick and easy and also very helpful. The room that i was given was also very good with lots of nice extras, dressing gowns, slippers, coffee machine as well as the normal teas and coffees

A great little city break spot perfect for taking you dog along with you. Everything in Exeter is a short walk from the hotel and the hotel is dog friendly. The room was a decent size and very clean The food in the restaurant was great too and the pool was fantastic when the weather was hot

Underwhelming. My room was small, the windows wouldn't open (fixed double glazing), generally the hotel feels institutional - long corridors, high ceilings, austere but also a bit tawdry. Carpets could do with replacing/ bed linen smelt a bit damp. Location not great and while the hotel wasn't terrible, it wasn't good given what what I paid. On the up side, breakfast was quite good and the bar was ok. There's a plaque by the hotel entrance, announcing this used to be a war hospital - which isn't going to be a surprise to anyone who stays here. This is what it still feels like.

We used the spa facilities today as a treat for my daughter's 30th birthday. The service in both the spa and the restaurant was great. We really enjoyed our lunch and time flew too quickly, we will definitely be returning to enjoy being pampered again. Jade, who handled my spa treatments was wonderful, highly recommend her.

Just about a 4 star - The building and surrounding is perfect as it is within a converted eye hospital perfectly located for both the town and the quay. The rooms were amazing! We booked especially because it had a pool but it was closed for the full 36 hours we were there as they "couldn't get the chlorine levels safe" which disappointed about 90% of the guests who had booked especially for that reason! The staff were quite dismissive about this and even when we questioned it, the answer was "the pool is a bonus and we don't charge for it" which doesn't really help when you booked it on the back of the pool and you have a 9 year old with you that you've promised a swim after a longish drive there. The bar service was slow slow slow (I needed one after dealing with a 9 year year old not be able to swim;-) they serve after 3pm but my suggestion is to order drinks from the restaurant before as its quicker than the service when at the bar! Very painful!

The Mole Resort is a new addition to the tranquil countryside of north Devon, offering a variety of accommodation options including hotel rooms and luxury lodges. The resort provides an outdoorsy atmosphere with activities such as golf, tennis, croquet, archery, and axe-throwing. Guests can also learn new skills like building a bat box. Indoor and outdoor pools along with a spa offer relaxation opportunities.
We recently stayed at The Mole Resort with two families, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish! We had two beautiful lodges that felt just like home spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The hot tub was a real highlight and perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The restaurant served delicious food, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The play area kept the kids happy for hours, and the location itself is stunning peaceful countryside views all around. Everything about our stay was excellent. We’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend The Mole Resort to anyone looking for a perfect family getaway in Devon!

Nice location, although it is isolated. We had a Superior room in the courtyard. The room was nice, clean and spacious. The bathroom was definitely in need of a make over. Food; breakfast was very good, nice selection and hot food was made to order. Evening meal was okay, expensive for what was an average meal. Didn't use the gym but I saw it had plenty of equipment, used the pool which was fine the water was on the cool side getting in but was okay when you started moving around. Hot tub, steam and sauna were good. Unfortunately, the changing room was poor, the floor was dirty and I took one look at the showers (no shower gel) and decided to wait until I got back to the room. The changing rooms are supposed to be checked every hour but they are not keeping it clean. The standard of the changing room is very poor and not in keeping with the resort. The staff through out were very good. This is great for families, but as a couple it's not for us.

The resort is pretty amazing with fantastic cabin. Perfect for a family gateway. There are 2 amazing pubs nearby and wonderful paths. The only things I would improve are the changing rooms to access the pool and the spa as they aren’t very nice ( especially compared to the rest of the resort). The other thing is that they didn’t give us any explanation about how to do the recycling in our cabin and considering they are eco lodge it would have been nice to do it properly. Other than that, it is absolutely recommended!

Absolutely stunning resort, we stayed in the main house. The room and ensuite were perfect. Very friendly staff on reception desk. The surrounding areas are fabulous. The swimming pool and spas made the visit even more perfect, being able to use the facilities before check in and after. Highly recommend, can't wait to go back.

Wow. Absolutely beautiful place. We loved absolutely everything about it and would love to stay again as we only had 2 nights. The dog had such a lovely time. We had meadow view 222. It was beautiful, could have lived in it. The hot tub was boiling hot and in the evening under the stars was wonderful. The walks all around the park were great and although we didn’t use any of the activities, they all looked great. We had dinner one night in the restaurant, the service from the younger waiting staff was exceptional, they should be highly praised as we sat next to two very very rude couples who complained about everything and the waiting staff handled it with absolute class. Food was ok, it wasn’t anything special but we did enjoy it. Devlin was our bar man and was fantastic, very polite and friendly. We would 100% recommend this and would love to return.

We had a brilliant stay here in a beautiful lodge. We did have issues with the ev chargers not working but it was resolved after a few hours. The location is stunning but a little remote, with a few windy roads. There was plenty to do on site though so was perfect for a short break. We will definitely be back!
Rebecca S — Google review
Just returned from a 4 night stay in the valley view lodge. The lodge itself is lovely, very modern and the view is amazing. The place is super quiet even with the lodges being relatively close. Luckily for us, we bought our fire stick as the tv only allows for YouTube and that’s it. Would recommend bringing one if you want to settle down and watch a movie after the hot tub (if that’s your thing) We all found the beds pretty hard and uncomfortable, it didn’t give us a good nights sleep the entire time. The grounds are stunning and we loved the pumpkin patch, you can see they went the extra mile to decorate. We used the pool, and have to agree with all of the other reviews. It’s in desperate need of an upgrade. Each time we went we had to wait around to use the changing room as there is only 4 rooms with an old shower curtain that sticks to you when you get changed, it’s not very nice. The pool itself was ok, pretty basic but did the job. We did dine in the restaurant for Sunday lunch. Unfortunately not as good as the last time we ate there. Small portion of beef and the vegetables were cold on serving. We went to pay the bill (separately) with the rest of the guests staying and because the first person who paid didn’t request to remove the service charge it meant that it “had” to be paid. Entirely unfair and a service charge should be optional regardless if someone had already paid at the bar. It would be helpful if this was the case, the server tell us beforehand. Overall a good stay with some minor improvements.
Anni C — Google review
Changed the review as we eventually had a great time thanks to the attentive staff. Great views. Lots to do. Nice food. However, this is a kid’s club with a leisure centre advertised as a spa. If you are expecting a nice relaxing spa stay this is not the place to go. The receptionist was fairly useless and didn’t brief us much on information for local area etc. If we had known we had other options for staying.

Ilsington Country House Hotel & Spa is a charming family-run hotel nestled in 10 acres of private grounds on the southern slopes of Dartmoor National Park. The hotel offers traditional rooms with stunning views of Dartmoor, creating a cosy and comfortable atmosphere. Guests can enjoy fine dining at the restaurant, which emphasizes local produce, and indulge in the new spa facility featuring an indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, and fitness suite.
We have stayed here several times and it doesn't disappoint. A warm welcome from lovely staff. The beautiful surroundings, comfortable country-house decor, fabulous treatments in the spa (Sarah's massage in particular). The food in The Tigers Inn and in the restaurant is first class and always delicious, a lovely menu to choose from and all cooked perfectly, to order, with intolerances and allergies taken very seriously, and served by kind and friendly staff. I totally recommend the whole experience.

Beautiful homely hotel in an amazing location. This was made even better by the most friendly, helpful staff. They took time to get to know us (especially Tom, or was it Dick or Harry! Also treated to a massage whilst there, so a special mention to Sarah who was fab! The spa facilities, especially the swimming and hydrotherapy pools were brilliant and got well used! Altogether a lovely week, thank you!

My husband and I stayed for two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary, following a glowing recommendation from his aunt and uncle, who visit regularly. The location is truly beautiful – nestled in the Devon countryside – though the final approach involves some narrow, winding roads! From the moment we arrived, the staff were outstanding: warm, professional, and genuinely helpful. The hotel has a welcoming atmosphere, with a nicely decorated entrance and a charming long-case clock. We stayed in Room 22, a suite on the first floor near the spa. Unfortunately, it was very hot when we arrived – 30°C according to our travel clock – but there was a fan provided, and we supplemented it with our own (yes, we are *those* people!) due to health needs. The room itself was spacious enough, with a cosy comfortable lounge area, suitably-equipped bedroom, and a two-parter bathroom area which comprised a deep bath, separate shower cubicle, and toilet and sink area. The décor was a little tired in places, and the bed mattress too firm for our liking, though the bedding was good quality. We flagged a couple of maintenance issues (a broken bathroom window latch and some shower resealing needed) to reception. Wi-Fi didn’t reach our room well, and the mobile signal was poor – we had to hotspot via the windowsill. If connectivity is important to you, bear this in mind. The food was a highlight. Dinner in the main restaurant was exceptional – beautifully cooked and with great allergy awareness. My husband appreciated the gluten- and dairy-free options, and I was thrilled to finally get a properly strong cup of English breakfast tea, of a standard I make at home! Breakfast was fine, but not on the same level – I wish they’d offer hollandaise sauce so I could build my favourite breakfast of Eggs Royale from the available menu. A few areas of the hotel, such as the main restaurant and bar, are air-conditioned, though building constraints limit where else it can be installed. Sadly, we didn’t have time to try the spa or pool, but it looked lovely and our relatives speak highly of the treatments. Room 22’s proximity to the kitchen meant 7:30am noise and smells, which combined with the heat, would lead us to choose a different room next time. In all, a lovely stay with standout staff and food, but room comfort and connectivity could be improved.
Ariadne K — Google review
We booked a spa morning for 6 travelling for an hour to attend. Sadly the therapist was ill so we couldn't get our treatments. These things happen. Was surprised and disappointed that the Spa didn't even offer us a complementary drink, not even the tea and coffee to make up for the disappointment. Poor customer relations.

First time at the Islington hotel for an evening meal. A really delightful evening began with celebratory drinks on the terrace whilst making our menu choices. Amazing stay @ the Ilsington for my birthday. Staff were particularly attentive and personable, especially the evening crew. A lá carte dining was absolutely stunning, no wonder this place has its 2 rosettes, chefs kiss! Would benefit from some nice scents in the main dining room though and checking the underside of the bath mat. Apart from that and the not so welcoming guy in the suit this place and the team are absolutely majestic. Well done Islington!

A very traditional room, as you expect from a country house. The staff could not do enough for you and we're extremely polite and helpful from the moment I arrived to the time I left. I only stayed for a nearby work meeting so didn't get a chance to try out the full spa facilities but I hope to return in the future.
Anthony E — Google review
Unfortunate ending to our spa session... Just so say upfront that Ilsington is a lovely spa, the facilities are small but perfectly formed and up until today it has always been quiet with a very relaxing atmosphere. We booked a spa afternoon a few days in advance, the reception took the booking and neglected to mention that it was half-term. With 1.5 hours left of the 4 hour session a large family with 5+ kids jumped in the pool, the kids repeatedly jumped in the pool (despite the signage), and the noise and chaos basically ended the spa session, most (if not all) of the spa customers left. We informed reception on our way out and we were told "sorry, it's our hotel guests' first day and they're are a bit excited". I think had we been offered a drink or a discount off our next session as an appology and some reassurance that they would make changes to prevent this happenening again then I probably wouldn't be writing this review. At a minimum let us know when we booked that it was half-term, or advise on which times the pool is open to hotel guests. A small change in process would go a long way with this sort of thing.

This was our third visit to this hotel and we will definitely be visiting again. We booked a premium room for a couple of days as a special treat for a birthday and anniversary present to ourselves and we were not disappointed. The room was great, a super king size bed, so comfortable, very clean and tidy and a full bathroom with a shower over the bath. The food was incredible, breakfast choices were everything you could think of from cereal, yoghurt, fruit to full english or pancakes. Dinner was a five course meal, cooked to order and it was delicious, choices included catch of the day from Brixham harbour, venison or duck for example. We will be returning to this little gem of a hotel and I recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from it all for a few days.

We had 2 nights in The Aviary. The hotel is gorgeous. Staff were excellent - Bek the waiter was so attentive and professional. Dinner was excellent. Breakfast amazing. The afternoon tea could be tweaked a trifle. The massage brilliant. Despite the weather we enjoyed bracing walks. I just wish the adjoining shop - The Lightning Tree had been open. I look forward to returning next year.

Don't book The Artist Room if you want a sea view, you need to stand up against the window and look left to see the sea. There was no problem with the room but having asked for a sea view it was very disappointing to have a view of the buildings opposite. The breakfasts were very good but the evening menu was very limited unless you wanted fish every night and the service was very slow. Th staff were very pleasant but there were not enough working in the evening to provide an acceptable service.

We just got back from a 3 night stay at The Bath Hotel in the charming village of Lynmouth and enjoyed it tremendously. Lovely, well looked after hotel with real charm and olde worlde atmosphere. You can tell a lot of love has gone into this place. Room was lovely (quirky twin with a fabulous seaview), Ancient Mariner pub was fabulous; interesting decor, good food and a lovely warm fire. The 2 dining rooms are also first rate and the breakfasts were very good. Shame the Aubrey room wasn't open but that was expected midweek in January. I believe it only opens at weekends until the season starts. Staff was great too with a special mention to Bek who helped make our stay truly memorable! We'll definitely come again someday. Thank you.

Exceptional! I can't recommend this hotel enough. The concierge was fantastic, the staff in the breakfast room, restaurant and bar were all excellent and very well presented. The room had beautiful views of the harbour, a very clean and comfy bed. Tea and coffee provided was of a very high standard, and the milk was fresh rather than UHT, and the handmade shortbread was a delicious touch. The bathroom was spotless and even included the most beautiful smelling essential oil bath salts. I cannot wait to go back. Thank you so much for making our little holiday to Lynmouth so perfect.

A wonderful relaxing environment in a superb location. We stayed in the 'Princess' room which was very comfortable and a lovely link to Queen Victoria. Everywhere in the hotel was spotless and then we come to the food, oh my a strict diet on returning home is called for, it was excellent and made even more so by the absolutely fabulous Gabriella Queen of the dining room. Nothing was too much trouble for her and her attention to detail was great, in fact all the staff were fantastic. Can't wait to return, as it seems so many others do regularly and now we know why.

Nestled in the picturesque North Devon countryside, Trimstone Manor Country House Hotel and holiday cottages offer a delightful escape for travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure. This elegant 17th-century manor is surrounded by 44 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, providing a serene backdrop for your stay. Guests can enjoy airy accommodations, some equipped with kitchens, along with amenities like an indoor pool, tennis courts, and a sauna.
If you like classic English hotel in the country side, this is for you. Really classic, vintage and great experience for a whole families. Homey vibes, quiet, and also green views every morning. The reception lady really lovely and make our experience went smoothly. Got indoor pool with heating water also sauna. Emu birds and peacocks are lovely too. My kids loves to see them. Got simple breakfast and delicious for a whole families (you need to booked before).

Step back in time to a quirky countryside dreamscape. We stopped off for a cream tea with our children and could not be more pleased that we did. The owners and staff were a delight and the cream tea was scrumptious. Our children loved the wide variety of pet poultry. We will be back.

Just returned home from 4 night stay with my 90 year old mother. Staff were very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were lovely, quirky with modern en suite. Grounds beautiful with gorgeous views and unusual animals including peacocks around the place. Lovely swimming pool with a sauna. Would highly recommend as a place to stay if like North Devon.

Ahh Trimstone Manor , we had a lovely family break here in June 22 and then decided to come back this month as my little boy really enjoys his time in Woolacombe. He also loved visiting the birds and the indoor pool. For the price of staying in October it was pretty reasonable. However , we stayed in Mill Cottage and to be fair upstairs was clean. Bed was absolutely awful so I didn't sleep. Kitchen could have done with some more cooking utensils and some baking trays. The washing machine was leaking into the dish washer. Downstairs where my in laws were sleeping was pretty awful, smelt damp, their clothes were very smelly on leaving the place at the end of the week. The shower had black mould and tiles were falling off and there was no privacy on showering as.no shower curtain or screen and the door had no lock. We asked for breakfast on the first day and although we received it Hazel didn't look too impressed at having to cook four adult cooked breakfasts. I think in general she's a bit stressed. We didn't have breakfast for the rest of the week as it was too expensive for the quality. I had some cereal and it was stale. The bread for the toast was very thin and cheap, double dipping in the jam/marmalade wasn't great. Lovely coffee though. The place desperately needs some TLC but it was a reasonably priced base for another fab holiday!

We'd booked for four days, as the photos on the site seemed pretty nice. However, it was so disappointing, I can't quite believe it. As per some of the other reviews, the hotel is very dated and in dire need of an update and a refresh. The most modern part is the office. We checked in, and I saw there were LOADS of cobwebs all over the room. And not recent cobwebs, the kind of cobwebs that build up over weeks and weeks. I had to complain THREE times - they allegedly sent someone out the first two times, but the final time I insisted someone come with me and we actually had to point them out to the housekeeper (who seemed surprised) - above the curtains, above the towel rail in the (tiny) bathroom, above the bed...just all over - as well as point out that the window sills clearly hadn't been dusted in WEEKS. I had also planned to use the gym, but when we were shown it, it just stank of mould and smelled so musty, I couldn't imagine being out of breath in there. One day, the housekeeper didn't even turn up, so the bins weren't emptied, there was no refill of tea and coffee and no clean glasses and mugs, no toilet paper. Normally I wouldn't mind, but at £175 a night and given the earlier issues with cleanliness, it's the very least they could have done. We had to pay for breakfast - £12 for ONE sausage, ONE hashbrown, a tiny pot of beans , two slices of toast and some eggs. I only had it the one time. My other half isn't a morning person, so he missed out on it. This hotel will appeal to certain kind of traveller. Unfortunately, my partner and I do not fall into that category. If you're looking for somewhere easily accessible with top quality service, then look somewhere else. As a 'gesture of goodwill', they didn't charge me for the breakfast...to make up for the filthy room. Wow! Giving it two stars, purely because my partner loved the birds and enjoyed going to check up on them in the morning before we went out and in the evening when we got back.

We really liked the East Down room with views and four poster. Nice staff especially Joanne? at Desk but catering impacted by staff shortages as was everywhere nearby. Breakfast cooked to order. Only issue is the narrow approach lanes but that gives privacy and quiet when you arrive.

Fantastic location, only let down by a serious lack of investment by the owner. As a large family booking we had all the available cottages. The three smallest were in need of refurbishment with old decor and equipment, the two larger cottages were much better and very comfortable. There didn’t seem to be a cleaner around all week with full bins everywhere and dirty public areas inc games room and pool area. There was also several broken items inc a microwave, power shower and table hockey which needed attention, hence my comment ref a lack of investment. Overall we really enjoyed the week and would only like to say a little effort would have made it fantastic as a holiday experience.

I cannot remember the last time I felt so relaxed! Staff are so friendly, breakfast was delicious and the grounds/views are breathtaking! Loved hearing the peacock, cockerel and emus! Thank you so much, we were really needing this break and it was more than we imagined. Also it was so luxurious having the swimming pool available to us until late, we had it all to ourselves!!! Bliss!!!

Nestled in a tranquil hamlet on the edge of Exmoor National Park, The Old Rectory Hotel offers an idyllic escape surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and endless walking trails. This charming boutique hotel, housed in a stunning 16th-century rectory, combines upscale accommodations with warm hospitality from owners Huw and Sam. Guests can indulge in delightful touches like afternoon tea and pre-dinner drinks while enjoying locally sourced dining options.
Wonderful! Having lived most of my life in hotels, this boutique hotel is up there with the best boutique hotels. Lots of nice touches from afternoon tea to pre-dinner drinks. The room, bathroom and bed were of excellent quality, clean and comfortable, as was the rest of the hotel. The dinner menu suited us perfectly, accompanied by an excellent selection of wines. We loved the intimacy of the building and the beautiful orangery/conservatory. Surrounded by well kept beautiful gardens. The hosts, Sam and Hugh, with their dry humour, couldn't have been more welcoming. We thoroughly recommend this hotel and enjoyed our stay.

As it says at the entrance "a quintessential country hotel" if that's your bag it's a must. Beautiful rural location with great walks and that's its strength and weakness. Can't fault the homely cooking and hospitality, including the guest.

Our 2nd stay, and we’ve booked for a third. A wonderful hotel, where one can truly relax. The rooms are immaculate, the service perfect, and the food divine. The little extras, tea & cake, pre-dinner cocktails & canapés, and the homemade soups are all uniquely special.

We have just returned from another wonderful stay at the Old Rectory!! Our wonderful hosts Huw and Sam make it so special and there is no better place to stay if you want to get away from it all. It’s a haven of peace and tranquillity with fabulous service and food. We are already looking forward to our next visit despite already staying twice this year. Long may they reign in this glorious part of Devon! Superb 🥰

Beautiful setting and very comfortable hotel. Food is excellent with a varied menu each day. Feeling of staying in a country house with great hosts. Relaxed and friendly but very efficient.

Sep 20: managed to sneak in a quick visit between covid bouts. Huw and Sam had it all under control. Service, ambience and food all equally excellent. May 21. Returned for three nights. Just as excellent. Will return in September - if we can get a cancellation!
