2nd Ave Deli is a classic deli in Kips Bay, NYC, known for its traditional Jewish fare and variety of sandwiches. Despite its unassuming dining room, the deli stands out as one of the best in the city. The menu includes favorites like pastrami sandwiches, matzo ball soup, and franks in blankets. After relocating from its original East Village location, the deli has maintained its high-quality offerings and nostalgic decor.
This was my first Jewish dining experience, and it did not disappoint. I sampled food from my friends, and everything was delicious. I had 1/2 a chicken salad sandwich and fries. The coleslaw was fresh, crisp, and the best I've ever had.

Classic kosher deli and smart restaurant space. My server was very nice, but the French guy on the next table had a very brusque server who came across as quite rude. I actually had to step in to explain something on the menu for him which the server didn't seem to want to take the time for. Soup and half sandwich is a great deal and was plenty for lunch. Matzo ball soup was excellent and I enjoyed the pastrami although it was not very hot. Great value and a fun experience, at least for me maybe not for my neighbour. Manager/owner (?) also very nice, taking the time to ask if i enjoyed my meal.
Simon M — Google review
While this is a lovely place, I would try to order something different next time. I heard they were known for their matzoh ball soup but this was so watery, it’s not even close to most of what other places offer in the city like Park East Kosher, and nothing will ever compare with Carnegie Deli, so sorry to have lost that icon year ago. Come here and order something other than the soup, it was as if they dipped a chicken in for a minute and threw it out, no chicken flavor at all.
Mary N — Google review
Great service and food. Pricing is high but so is the overall experience and worth it. Complimentary slaw and pickle to start along with desert cookie at the end. Server was very attentive and friendly. Portions are generous and overall we’d certainly come back. Not every place delivers on quality, portions, and service when you pay top dollar, but 2nd Ave does. This was our first time at this location, we had been to the pther one prior to this. Thank you!
Joel B — Google review
Much preferred this place to Katz. Was an able to walk in and get seated immediately. Wait staff are super friendly and engaging, order promptly delivered. The pastrami sandwich was epic, incredible juicy Smokey flavoured meat, with the good mustard it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Got talking to the waiter and explained how the brisket at their competition was dry and unimpressive. He had the carvers slice me some to show me how good it was. Unexpected surprise and really well appreciated. These guys who service and do it with panache. Highly recommended

This place was great, Matza ball soup, pastrami sandwich, pickles. True comfort food!

If you’re within a 6 block radius of Murray hill, you’ve got to stop by 2nd Ave Deli! We stopped in for dinner hoping to avoid a rush, and it literally felt like we walked into the restaurant of a family member. The complimentary coleslaw and pickles to start got our attention immediately, and it wa only up from there. We ordered a 3 decker with pastrami, corned beef, and salami and an order of fries, all to share. All of the meats were SO flavorful, with a beautiful balance between lean and fatty to perfectly balance the sandwich. No tough chewy bits, no fatty parts that we had to discard, and perfectly seasoned! The coleslaw and Russian dressing provided the perfect crunch and brightness to the sandwich, and the rye bread was sturdy yet melded so well with the other ingredients! The sandwich is $38, but don’t let that scare you. The portion size is well worth it, and you’re definitely getting your money’s worth here. The fries were a bit bland and could have used some salt, but I added some to my sandwich (don’t judge it until you’ve tried it) and was surprised how well they fit. To cap the meal off, we ordered a cappuccino that was absolutely delicious and a slice of chocolate babka to go. The complimentary cookies are a wonderful touch, and the employees and environment are warm and welcoming. I feel like family already, and can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu!
Hyden B — Google review
Classic old school deli, I thought the pastrami was thinly sliced but not as fatty as I remember Katz to be. But the service, ambiance, bread, and free pickles and sugar cookie all made for a pretty enjoyable experience. They were pretty busy for a 2 pm but we got seated immediately.

Deli
American restaurant
Jewish restaurant
Katz's Delicatessen, a no-frills deli established in 1888, is an iconic cornerstone of Jewish culture in New York City. It gained international fame after being featured in the movie 'When Harry Met Sally.' Despite its notoriously cranky service and high sandwich prices, patrons believe that the pastrami sandwiches are worth every penny.
Katz’s Delicatessen lives up to its legendary reputation. The pastrami sandwich is easily the best I’ve ever had. The meat is sliced thick, perfectly tender, and packed with smoky, peppery flavor. It’s juicy without being greasy, and the seasoning gives it the right balance of salt and spice. Paired with fresh rye bread and a touch of mustard, the sandwich is simple but unbeatable. The portion size is HUGE. One sandwich could easily feed two people, but it’s hard to stop once you start. The pickles on the side add a crisp, tangy contrast that cuts through the richness of the pastrami. Service is quick and straightforward, even with the crowds. The place can feel chaotic and the lines are long, but that’s part of the experience. Katz’s delivers authentic New York deli food at its absolute best. If you’re in New York, this is a must-visit. The pastrami sandwich alone is worth the trip, and it shows why Katz’s has been an icon for generations. Five stars without question.
Gordon C — Google review
No surprise people are willing to wait in that long line it’s absolutely worth it. The meat is outstanding: juicy, tender, and smoky. The pastrami/corned beef on rye with just a swipe of mustard is perfection. The hot meat plate with gravy is spot-on—thick-cut and satisfying. Classic old-school deli vibes, lively crowd, and quick service even when it’s packed. A true must-visit in New York.✌🏻
Wattanachai C — Google review
I finally understand what all the hype is about — and it’s absolutely worth it! From the lively cutter line to the personalities of the cutters themselves, the energy and customer service here are top-tier. You can tell they genuinely love what they do, and it shows. Their tip jar was overflowing (and rightfully so!) — I loved that I could even tip electronically. They offered plenty of samples — though my sons devoured them before I could even turn my head. We truly enjoyed the beef brisket Reuben. Wow We ordered the Philly cheesesteak, the grilled cheese, and those thick, steak fries. My pastrami and corned beef sandwich was phenomenal — juicy, tender, and paired with the best Dijon mustard I’ve ever tasted. The Philly cheesesteak was loaded with flavor and served on bread that was just perfect. From start to finish, this place delivers an experience as satisfying as the food itself. I’m so glad I finally checked it off my list — and honestly, I can’t wait to go back! Sad it was to go.
Timothy S — Google review
The Reuben sandwich with pastrami was good although I expected a bit more. The sauerkraut was too sour to my taste. The cucumbers accompanying the sandwich were really good. The portion size is pretty large and you can share a single sandwich with two adults if you are not ultra hungry. The atmosphere inside is nice and moves you back a few decades but it’s a little bit on the dirtier side. The place is obviously iconic. The payment with a card is not very comfortable and everything is designed for cash payments. Overall it’s a good place and worth a visit if you are in New York. I expected a bit more for the money though
Alexey S — Google review
We visited on a Saturday night and stayed in the outside line for about 40 minutes and another 40 minutes inside for a table service. We were a group of 6 people visiting from Southern California. We ordered all sandwiches on the menu and the only one that was truly delicious was the Ruben pastrami sandwich. It was really good! But don't try other things like the corn beef and the brisket because they were so plain and tasteless. Not worth the price at all. Their fries were really good too! Unfortunately the staff and the servers are not nice... While we were waiting for our table, one lady who was in charge of sitting people down screamed at us when we didn’t directly answer her question! And after we sat down and we needed something, it was hard to get anyone's attention and not being ignored. In summary, it was nice trying it once, but we will not go back.
Mooj R — Google review
Went for brunch (10 am) which was perfect because there were no lines. Place totally lived up to the hype! The staff was always helpful (but efficient), and the food was really outstanding, though next time Ill skip the fries (too large of a serving unless you have more than 3 people). I was skepticle of the cellary soda but it goes so well with the pastrami. Also dont forgot to keep everyones ticket. Enjoy!

Katz’s Delicatessen – An Absolute NYC Classic! If you’re in New York and want to taste authentic deli history, this is the place. I ordered the legendary pastrami sandwich, a matzo ball soup and a side of half sour pickles and every bite felt like stepping back into New York’s golden era. The pastrami is juicy, smoky, perfectly spiced and piled sky high between slices of fresh rye bread. The soup is comforting, with a fluffy matzo ball that melts into the rich broth. Yes, it’s busy but that’s part of the magic. Watching the carvers hand slice steaming pastrami behind the counter while neon lights glow and the crowd buzzes with energy is an unforgettable NYC experience. I finished everything to the last bite worth every penny and every minute in line. Katz’s isn’t just food it’s a New York institution since 1888. Must try: Pastrami on rye with mustard, matzo ball soup and pickles. Tip: Keep your yellow ticket safe, find a seat after ordering, and just enjoy the show. Update: The team was super kind to reply! I’ll be back for another sandwich next time for sure… 🍞💛

10/10 believe the hype. It's great. The vibe, the food, all of it was classic. We went around 12 and there was barely a line, and we were served by a charismatic guy who loved his work. The only thing is the price point. You do get a ton of meat in sandwiches and there's so much to try, but they are 🤑🤑 when we went, it was $28.95 for the Pastrami Sandwich with no extras, taxes and tips not included (for my fellow tourists)

Bagel shop

Gourmet grocery store
Established in 1914, Russ & Daughters is a renowned family-owned shop located in the Lower East Side neighborhood of New York. This iconic establishment is celebrated for its extensive selection of high-quality smoked fish, including nova, gravlax, belly lox, whitefish, and sturgeon. In addition to smoked and cured fishes, they also offer pickled herrings, caviars, cream cheeses, bagels and bialys.
There's a reason this place has been around for decades. The spot takes you back to an old pharmacy with counter ordering, all items beautifully on display, and no frills. Come prepared to order because in true NY fashion they move QUICK. The everything egg bagels are tasty but I felt the cream cheese stole the show. These are highly sought out by the locals and I can see why. They offer a variety of fish options but we didn't taste test these.
Annie K — Google review
Pro tip: when you walk in, be sure to take a number—they’ll call it out when it’s your turn to order. The place has a charming old-school interior that gives off classic New York vibes, which adds to the experience. They offer a variety of sandwiches, bagels, spreads, and smoked fish options. I ordered a salmon bagel with a few extras and ended up paying around $20. While the atmosphere was cool, the bagel itself was quite small and didn’t justify the high price—especially since we've had better, more satisfying salmon bagels elsewhere in NYC for less. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it, and I wouldn’t go back—there are better bagel spots in the city that offer more value and flavor.
Paul G — Google review
Got a poppy seed bagel with lox and scallion cream cheese (also had onion, tomato, and capers). This was my favorite bagel on the trip and the reason was mainly the cream cheese. It was so light and mild tasting i felt like I could eat a tub of it ans feel fine. The lox was also amazing too though. The sandwitch was just perfectly executed. I wish the in store experience was a little better though. The store become a mess when it gets crowded so plan to go at a slightly odd time for a smoother/faster experience.
Josh — Google review
My brother was told about this place. Absolutely loved it. Felt like a slip back in time and you can tell this place is not only, take care of and respected, but also has quality staff that put love and attention to your order. We split the classic bagel and lox. Best bagel I have ever had in my life. I truly wish I could eat this everyday. 10/10
Zeo N — Google review
Stopped by Russ & Daughters and it’s easy to see why it’s such an iconic spot. The fish quality really stands out — fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. You definitely get a lot for what you order, which makes it feel worthwhile. The classic bagels and spreads complement the fish perfectly, and the whole experience has a timeless, authentic New York feel. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates top-notch smoked fish and traditional deli vibes. We were able to eat right in front of the store, where there is a couple benches available.
Tom B — Google review
The best bagel I had in NYC. Soft and chewy toasted bagels, freshly sliced gravlax lox, scallion cream cheese with capers, onions and tomatoes. Is there anything more quintessential bagel-ly than that?? Take a ticket when you enter and listen closely for them to call your number. Even when there's a lot of people in the store, the line moves fast.
Lisa C — Google review
Very good place to get a cream cheese bagel and they are generous. There is a ticket system when you enter and you have to grab a ticket to be served and service is pretty quick. It’s not the best I had as it’s maybe hyped up to be, but certainly very solid. Feels like a commercial lineup with the ticket system rather than personal old style bagel shop.
Y B — Google review
Lived in New York most of my life (currently in Vegas) and it it wasn’t until this very day at 40 years old did I try the famed Russ and daughters bagel. Is it the best bagel? No. But looking at it as a complete sandwich with all the fixings ordered as recommended. Fantastic, one of, if not the best lox bagels I’ve had. Shame I missed out for all these years. I’m glad I had time meandering around Manhattan today

Deli
Sarge’s Delicatessen & Diner, a New York establishment since 1964, is renowned for its classic Jewish deli offerings. The menu features traditional favorites like pastrami and brisket sandwiches, as well as an extensive selection of imported herring and smoked fish platters. One of the highlights is 'The Monster,' a towering sandwich stacked with various meats, coleslaw, and Russian dressing.
Walking into Sarge’s I knew the food would be genuinely delicious. The restaurant immediately gave the old school, original deli impression. The french onion soup was the best I’ve tried. I am not a fan of pastrami on rye as a dish, but I could easily tell this was probably as good as the dish can get. The pastrami was tender and perfectly seasoned. Definitely recommend dining here.
Ben P — Google review
I’ve never had a cold cut sandwich quite like this before. The amount of corned beef and pastrami was a bit overwhelming for us, even for someone like me who usually enjoys meat heavy dishes. But for a cold cut, it wasn’t really my preference. If you’re into cold cut sandwiches piled high like this, you definitely won’t be disappointed as this place does deliver in both quality and quantity. My wife and I split one sandwich easily, and it was more than enough to fill us up. The flavor made it so much easier to enjoy and was the sole reason that helped me finish that generous portion of beef. All in all, it’s a solid deal if you’re planning to share.
Jonathan — Google review
This is our first family trip to New York and we wanted to go to a classic deli. We decided to go to Sarge’s as we were in uptown. This was amazing. I got the pastrami sandwich but asked to have half a pastrami sandwich and half a corned beef sandwich to have a taste of both. The lady was very accommodating and was able to get this done for me. The pastrami beef was very generous, as was the corn beef. The pastrami beef was not too salty and was very tender. The corned beef was also very good and seasoned well so that you could taste the beef and also could differentiate between the corned beef and pastrami. The turkey sandwich that my wife got also had very generous meat slices. Also, complementary, the coleslaw and pickles came. The pickles were both the fresh pickles that were lightly Brined and the more heavily brined classic pickles. The coleslaw was a moderately sweet slaw with only a slight amount of mayonnaise. In the sandwich, was a very nice crunchy component to the sandwich. I have never been to Katz’s deli so I couldn't tell you whether this was better or the same as Katz’s, but I can tell you that I will definitely come back here as I did not have to wait for a table, and the service was excellent.
David P — Google review
This was my preferred restaurant experience during our 8-day trip to New York with my family this summer. We loved everything about this Deli, it was everything I was expecting. I had the pastrami sandwich (go for a half one with soup, that will be more than enough already) and it was incredible. The staff was very helpful and kind.
Georges K — Google review
A must visit to the legendary Sarge’s whilst in New York. The place is quite small and looks dated, probably to keep the feel. Outstanding service, unbeatable. The pastrami on rye was soft and tender, however, it was a little bland, seasoning needed. I have never tried Matzo ball soup and was so keen after seeing all the reviews. Probably just me, but it’s like soft corn bread in chicken soup. Nothing wrong with it, but I’m not going to rave about it ! Great Colombian coffee, the pickles, I have had way better tbh. I’m glad I’ve been, I will try Katz next.
Matthew O — Google review
Love this place. Saw it on YouTube, it’s very famous in New York as Sarge’s has the best pastrami sandwiches and it didn’t disappoint, best pastrami I’ve had. Service was fast, food was generous and extremely delicious and the staff is very polite and friendly, I’ll come back next time I’m in New York City, thanks
Talia R — Google review
The food here was terrific. I was visiting New York over 4th of July holiday and we had dinner here and it was fantastic. You couldn't get more authentic deli than this one! I definitely eat here again! I had the soup and sandwich The soup was vegetable and the sandwich was ham and Swiss on rye. They also gave me a dish of pickles with coleslaw fantastic I would definitely eat here again.
Joe F — Google review
Happened on this as I walked past. And I'm glad I did. I had the open brisket with gravy and fries to go. There was enough to feed 2. And the beef was fall apart tender. The fries are well done. Lemonade was nice and sweet.

Barney Greengrass, a renowned Jewish deli institution since 1908, is located in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It has been serving uptown residents and tourists with its high-quality smoked fish and traditional Jewish fare for over a century. The deli, known for not accepting credit cards, moved to its current location in 1929 and has become a staple in the neighborhood's rich Jewish heritage.
An old New York classic breakfast spot with a variety of breakfast cured fishes, prepared either as a breakfast sandwich, platter, or with eggs. I’d recommend a breakfast sandwich, which is the most economical, and the white fish salad as the fish. There’s often a line to get in, but it moves at a decent speed.
Matt B — Google review
No doubt this is an institution been around since early 1908 and they moved from original Harlem to Upper west. You walk in and it’s just a quintessential hustle bustle NYC fish focused deli. **it’s cash ONLY They feature mainly salted fish from sturgeon to salmon etc.. pair that with a bagel and you are set for a solid breakfast. The potato puffers are good even having come from Germany. They are crisp on the outside golden and softy and doughy with the balanced acidity it needs. As far as value for what it is it’s terrible and priced up there. 2 bagel combos, 1 potato puffer, 2x OJ you’re looking at 109$ without tip.
Jean D — Google review
Cash only historical fish spot with a pretty extensive menu. Really good bites and no frills setting. Got the nova with an everything bagel appetizer as my main and it was honestly the best nova I’ve ever had. Bright, flavorful, but not too fishy. Plenty of cream cheese and extras to dress my bites with. TBH it was so good that it may have ruined all other nova for me. My husband got the scrambled eggs and sturgeon and he loved it too. Perfect amount of saltiness. The everything bagels were also solid. Definitely get the potato pancakes, they’re puffy and crispy with plenty of sour cream and applesauce. It’s pricier than some other spots but for me, the quality of the fish was markedly better which made it worth it to me.

Unreal incredible food. The lox here is melt in your mouth good. The babka is perfect, soft and doughy. The latkes taste like your grandma made it in the back. Great service.

An old New York gem—Barney Greengrass is the real deal. Charming dining room, incredibly welcoming and engaging staff, and the best smoked fish in the city. Bagels, pastries, and fresh-squeezed OJ are all top-notch. A true institution and a joy every time.

Amazing smoked fish! Loved the sable. Overall very satisfying breakfast/lunch. I did feel that the bagels could’ve been better, but that could be personal preference. Still a good breakfast

Cash only on weekends; cards accepted on weekdays. Classic Jewish appetizing shop full of history and delicious bagels! The Nova Scotia salmon was top notch and the latkes were crispy and huge. Service is no frills and mildly abrasive. Prices are steep but where aren’t prices steep in Manhattan?

Pastrami Queen is a beloved New York spot known for its generous pastrami and smoked turkey sandwiches, as well as flavorful soups and sides. The tiny storefront on Manhattan's Upper East Side has been serving up these iconic sandwiches since 1998, after relocating from Queens. With a second location on the Upper West Side, Pastrami Queen continues to satisfy the city's craving for savory pastrami on rye.
I really wanted to try a typical pastrami sandwich, and I think I chose a great place. It's very small and modest, but it has a unique and authentic atmosphere. The staff was very attentive and friendly. I ordered the traditional sandwich with fries, and there were two of us. It was very tasty.
Melissa R — Google review
Pastrami Queen was great! The sandwiches were truly excellent — especially the roast beef, tongue, and brisket. The beef broth served as a dipping sauce was rich and flavorful. The coleslaw was fresh and perfectly balanced, and the local soda was just the right touch. The place was clean (even the restroom!), we found a table right away, got served quickly, and finished our meal without any delays. The check for three was a bit over $100 — definitely worth it for the quality and experience.
Kristina Z — Google review
Pastrami Queen is absolutely amazing! Everyone who works there is so friendly, you feel welcome the moment you walk in. The pastrami sandwich is truly a hit: juicy, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. If you’re in New York and craving a real deli experience, this place is a must-visit!
Oliver N — Google review
Loved this pastrami. My top pastrami place along with Katz. We had the pastrami sandwich with noodle soup. Soup was okay but sandwich was phenomenal. I like that they don't add sauce and you do it yourself to suit your taste. We had to wait a little for the table but worth it. Service is fast as well and efficient. They have a decent restroom. Prices are normal as per nyc standard. Would recommend ✨
Mae B — Google review
Lets get right to it: $30 for the sandwich wasn’t worth it. Sandwich wasn’t horrible, a bit dry and had basic flavor but still edible (for $2 a bite of course) I just feel there shouldn’t be reviews or ravings of “known for huge sandwiches”. A huge sandwich should have me full or saving half for later. Im still hungry and Im definitely not a big back. I can appreciate great food for the price but this didn’t add up for me and I work all over the city to queens and brooklyn. Try it and form your own opinion of course but don’t go in with high expectations. I didn’t even have enough dressing to finish the other half of my sandwich. Ps dont let the photo fool you, sandwich is barely 2 lbs Id say

Nice pastrami, a bit expensive for the size maybe but it’s enjoyable and the service is friendly
Valentin M — Google review
We decided to visit this famous spot known for its hot pastrami sandwich after seeing all the great reviews, and it turned out to be an excellent choice! The sandwich was absolutely scrumptious, full of flavor and perfectly seasoned. To make the experience even more special, we happened to run into Adam Sandler—he’s just as friendly and down-to-earth as you’d expect! The place itself is small and modest, very simple in decor, but don’t let that fool you. It’s all about the food here, and that pastrami sandwich is highly recommended!
María B — Google review
We went into this place on a whim since we’re big fans of pastrami sandwiches, but I think we would’ve been better off getting deli items and preparing them the way we wanted at home instead. The famous 8-9oz pastrami sandwich wasn’t bad, but for $25 (1/2lb of the same meat was $24 on its own), it was really just the meat on bread with a pickle, and left a bit to be desired for us - though we’ve had about a dozen pastrami sandwiches all over the country, so we may just have certain preferences. We also got the macaroni salad (delicious) and a spinach knish (HUGE and the flavor was good, but it wasn’t properly heated all the way through so we decided to just bring it home). The person who took our order was wonderful and very kind, though the sitting area to eat in was, as other reviewers said, quite small. He was very quick to make sure tables were clean and folks were seated though! All in all, I think I would’ve treated this like a deli instead of a lunch spot and just gotten all the items to go (and just the meat instead of the sandwich) so I could prepare them to my preferences at home. Worth a stop if you’re craving good pastrami and other deli specialities though!

Mile End Delicatessen is a popular spot known for its Montreal-style Jewish deli staples, including smoked meat sandwiches and crisp Montreal-style bagels. The deli offers a Canadian twist on New York bagels with various toppings such as smoked salmon, brisket, and Whitefish Salad.
I was recommended to this restaurant after meeting someone who lives in Canada yesterday, and I asked them "are there any authentic Canadian food places in NYC?" So first off you walk in and the place smells amazing. I forgot that that source told me that they have a ton of great smoked meats as well. I ended up getting the breakfast poutine, and it was the first time when I've actually enjoyed poutine. All the food was super fresh, authentic, and made with care. Even though the food is spectacular the wait staff is even better. Outrageously friendly, welcoming and their great attitude made the rest of my day much happier. Multiple servers checked in on me making sure I had everything I needed. It felt more like friends that are checking everything is all good if you are visiting their house compared to an actual restaurant. I recommend everyone try out this great place, and a big thank you to everyone working there today for the great experience.

My family was visiting and wanted some matzo ball soup and we stopped here since we were in the area. Food overall was good, service was good, staff was friendly. My only issue was that i ordered the smoked meat hash and there was barely any meat, almost as if they forgot to put the meat in. I pretty much paid $20 for eggs and potatoes. The latkes seemed to lack flavor. Everything else was good. I would recommend this place.

This was a great time! I met some interesting fellow elites with similar interests. (Nga! Don't forget to reach out about the cats!) I've never had poutine because I can't have cheese curds, so I was pleasantly surprised by the Poulette Poutine. It featured thick, gelatinous gravy full of shredded chicken poured over hot skin-on fries. Delicious! They also had a Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich (cured & smoked brisket, mustard, rye), Classic Poutine (fries, cheese curds, gravy), Pickle-Brined Fried Chicken (with coleslaw and pickles) a Smoked Meat Breakfast Burrito and, my absolute favorite(!) the Hoyt Dogs in Blanket (beef frank, maple mustard). Those Hoyt dogs were everything!

A nice discovery. A corned beef reuben that was as good as I've ever had and some well-made pickles. Very friendly and capable service and an interesting menu I will want to work my way through. All the Jewish deli standards, Canadian favorites, good Canadian beer and a selection of very interesting and creative sandwiches. A nice addition to the neighborhood and the City.

Been coming to this place since COVID time and can only say that this place has gone down hill. The quality and portions are nowhere close to before. I ordered a corned beef Reuben for pick up today, I ended up getting a sauerkraut sandwich with a thin layer of corned beef, as shown in the pics. I was in a hurry so finished off the sandwich anyway, and can confidently tell you that the beef was not more than one layer thick for the entire sandwich. This cost me $19 btw. Will not be ordering here again

Great poutine and sandwiches! Food is a tad expensive but they are bigger portions at least. Took our order to go and was still delicious at home. Will be sure to try the food in the restaurant at the servers recommendation. Give them a try!

Was able to stroll on in on a Thursday midday and be seated right away. I had heard from many folks that this place is bomb and I do believe it met my expectations. Basic dishes, but thoroughly delicious!

Legit Canadian-style Jewish deli in the heart of Brooklyn, and probably NYC’s best poutine! Cannot recommend this spot enough if you want a good poutine - crispy fries, perfectly seasoned gravy, and delicious smoked meat with fresh cheese curds. Had it with a Labatt Blue and I have no regrets.

Ben's Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers is a well-established kosher deli and diner chain that has been serving up classic sandwiches and Eastern European comfort foods like goulash for nearly 50 years. With seven locations across New York and one in Florida, including its trusty headquarters in Bayside, Queens, Ben's has become more than just a deli - it's an institution.
A most excellent deli. Must have opened in the 1960s, because that’s the vibe you get from the beautiful decor. Comfortable seating, and absolutely delicious pastrami sandwiches. Served with pickles and coke slaw, of course. And the matzoh ball soup was perfect. I don’t know how the servers deal so pleasantly with the old clientele, because I am older clientele, and believe me it ain’t easy. But they do; the service was delivered with professionalism and a good amount of humor. Accessible ♿️. Huge parking area. Try it.

I have always loved Ben’s! I grew up next to one by my elementary school. This evening I was there for a 90th party and they did an amazing job from pickles to pastrami and more

Ben’s totally delivers the classic deli experience. Corned beef, matzah ball soup, pickles, knishes, and more.
Adam F — Google review
This is the very best sit down table service deli in all of Queens. Their meats are excellent, their soups are fresh and flavorful and the unlimited pickles and delicious cole slaw seal the deal for me. After years of ordering corned beef and pastrami (irresistible!), I finally tried their weekly Thursday Turkey Feast (every Thursday is Thanksgiving here) and it absolutely did not disappoint! Here's a tip: the turkey stuffing is only available on Thursday so be sure to order an extra side dish of it as an accompaniment to any other menu offering on that day. They offer an extremely diverse menu so there will always be something to delight any palate. The only dish I won't be ordering again is their mock "creamed spinach." As a Kosher deli, no dairy is used in cooking or preparation. And, since you'll very likely be returning, absolutely join their Ben's frequent diner program.
Kouzoukian — Google review
I am sick and called in for delivery.. The order came on time. Chicken noodle soup was good. However Hawaiian chicken was made with poor chicken quality. It was so stringy and dry. Sweet potato was undercooked. The knish was old and brown potatoes inside. The baked apple was definitely not cooked long enough or still hard . I was very disappointed. I tried to eat it, but threw half of it away. I found that Bens has gone down in quality. And the times I ate in it was hit or miss with the corn beef or brisket many times it was so tough. I had to return it. Very disappointed
Judith Z — Google review
A great deli experience in the Bayside area. Ben's has been around for a while and is one of the best spots for some pastrami and corned beef. The staff are friendly and there's not much of a wait for lunch on a weekday. Corned beef and liver is my go-to sandwich here. The matzo ball soup and pickles are absolutely delicious. The matzo ball soup is great during the winter as it comes out piping hot! For others, the coleslaw and hot dogs here are great too.
Alexander C — Google review
Man, I wish I tried this place sooner. It’s deceptively big inside and has old school diner vibes. The service is super friendly, the prices are fair and the food is terrific. Fan of pickles and coleslaw? They make their own and they’re superb. Oh, and they’re bottomless too. Puts the gross soggy pickles and coleslaw at Neptune Diner to shame… in fact, everything I’ve tried here puts the Neptune equivalents to shame. The corned beef sandwich is big and great quality. They also offer it extra lean which is a nice option to have, same goes for the pastrami. The french fries here are made fresh and they taste it. Will definitely be making this a mainstay. It may not offer the variety of a diner, but checks so many diner boxes that I can safely say this is an amazing alternative to the lazy Neptune quality just down the street.

David's Brisket House, located in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, is a simple and unassuming deli that has been a staple for over 70 years. The family-run establishment has an interesting history, transitioning from kosher principles to halal tradition under different owners.
Great quick delicious local lunch spot. Has been an institution in this neighborhood for over 60 years and is slinging out award-winning brisket, pastrami and corned beef sandwiches along with an array of other Jewish deli specialties Absolute must try Spot for lunch if you’re in this area. Quick and easy love the old-school deli feel I’m a huge fan of that.

Halal brisket spot in brooklyn. Prices are basically the same as Katz deli, so on the PRICEY side. Pastrami was good, fries & pickles were good too. Nice old school diner vibe and service was great. Lunch prices seem really good. They do have 3 sizes of pastrami sandwiches so you don't really have to spend almost $30 for a sandwich but an authentic pastrami sandwich would be the XL.
Samir N — Google review
David’s Brisket House is a Brooklyn gem known for their old school stacked deli sandwiches that are as hearty as they are satisfying. Their must order classics, pastrami, reuben, and of course their brisket, are tender and flavorful while melting in your mouth with every bite. The pastrami delivers a perfect smoky savory punch while the Reuben balances tangy sauerkraut with melted cheese and that slow-cooked brisket is screaming juicy. Service is friendly and efficient which makes you feel right at home while keeping things moving smoothly. With their generous portions, fair prices, and a no-frills atmosphere, David’s Brisket House keeps the focus on what a true New York City deli has to offer.

Check out my I G lawyer.traveler.dreamer for more footage of our experience. David’s Brisket House in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, is a real piece of NYC food history. The shop has been around for more than 50 years and still serves some of the best sandwiches in the city. We ordered the famous “3 The Hard Way” to try all three classics: pastrami, brisket, and corned beef. Each one was stacked high on rye, and the flavors were incredible. The brisket had that perfect smoky edge, and the pastrami was full of spice and tenderness. You can feel the legacy in every bite. It’s casual, local, and full of character. If you want an authentic deli experience in Brooklyn, this is the spot to visit.
Lawyer.traveler.dreamer — Google review
David’s Brisket House in Brooklyn is one of those timeless New York gems where tradition, flavor, and community meet over a single perfect bite. From the outside, it looks like the kind of old-school spot you could easily walk past until the smell of smoked meat pulls you in. Inside, the atmosphere is simple and unpretentious, but what comes out of that kitchen is pure craftsmanship. The brisket is tender, smoky, and rich, with just the right amount of fat melting into each slice. Piled high on rye bread and served with a side of nostalgia, every sandwich feels like a piece of New York history. What sets David’s Brisket House apart is the legacy behind it a Muslim-owned Jewish deli that has been perfecting this art for decades. It’s a story of cultures blending beautifully through food, and you can taste that harmony in every bite. Whether you go for the classic pastrami, corned beef, or the signature brisket, the flavors are deep, balanced, and completely addictive. Each sandwich comes stacked to perfection, juicy and smoky, with that old-school deli charm you can’t fake. There’s something special about how the team treats you too no rush, no gimmicks, just genuine hospitality. It’s the kind of place where regulars are greeted by name and newcomers are made to feel like family. Every visit feels familiar, comforting, and real. In a city overflowing with trendy new restaurants, David’s Brisket House remains a true New York institution humble, soulful, and unforgettable. If you’re looking for the best brisket sandwich in NYC, this is it. A taste of Brooklyn’s history, served warm between two slices of rye.

The deli/restaurant is located in the Mill Basin section of Brooklyn. They prepare kosher deli cuisine. I ordered corned beef sliced to order. The corned beef was fresh, tasty and well-prepared. The hot dog with onions was good. They have a variety of soups, sandwiches, salads, burgers and appetizers. The kasha varnishkes and mushroom barley are popular appetizers that I included. The matzo ball soup with noodles is very good. I would recommend that the deli put the matzo ball in a separate container. My soup container had very little soup.

The food is outstanding. The pastrami is tender and lean. The chicken salad is so yummy, and the rye bread is delicious. We also had knishes. They are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The mustard is spicy. The gentleman at the register was welcoming and friendly. An excellent and very tasty experience.

This deli has been my favorite go to spot in Brooklyn for over 15 years. Admittedly, I have not been in about a year. Was CRAVING the pastrami. I mean CRAVING. Drove halfway across Brooklyn. Couldn’t wait to get home and make my sandwich. After the first bite…….. when I tell you that I was disappointed, I wanted to cry. 😢 SUPER, SUPER salty. 😬 I really tried to enjoy it, but something was just… off. 😳 I’m not sure if the recipe or the cooking method has changed, but I am so upset. It was not good at all. It tasted processed. Kind of like Boars Head or some other processed brand; not fresh. I bought a pound of pastrami and no one in the house enjoyed. I’m contemplating throwing the remainder out. 😔 I don’t think that I’ll be back. 😢 Damn

Frankel's Delicatessen & Appetizing is a modern Jewish deli located in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. Since its opening in 2016, it has gained a strong reputation for its contemporary twist on classic deli fare. The founders, native New Yorkers and brothers, aimed to bring a fresh approach to traditional delis, reflected in the modern interior design with white tiled walls and glass pendant lights.
I’ve heard so much about this spot and yeah, never got around to it because they only open till 3 PM each day. Today I finally made it and it was well worth the weight. Relatively small establishment however staff is huge on courtesy. I tried their famous hot pastrami on rye with mustard and boy I was simply blown away. Each bite was super tender, juicy and so flavorful. I was also impressed the rye bread did not fall apart easily. Definitely a must visit and it’s definitely a top five pastrami sandwich in NYC.

Ok, maybe I shouldn’t have picked marathon Sunday to finally hit up Frankel’s—it was packed! But what a great spot. I love their creative breakfast sandwich options, and the vibe was pure NYC energy. I got the pastrami, egg, and cheese on a challah bun, and it was exceptional. Perfectly balanced, rich, and just messy enough in the best way. 10 out of 10. I’ll definitely be back.

Updated review: I am SO glad I went back. I tried the heirloom tomato bagel and the salmon tartare bagel and both were 10/10!! Original review: I really wanted to love this place but my bagel sandwich was very disappointing. I got the pastrami egg & cheese on a sesame bagel, which was gorgeous but, unfortunately, completely lacking in flavor. I want to give them one more shot and try one of the more traditional bagel + lox sandwiches, which will hopefully live up to the hype!
Ana R — Google review
By the time I remembered to take a picture of my bagel sandwich I had already eaten almost all of it. This is how good this place is. Chill atmosphere, super friendly staff, delicious fresh food! Just had the smoked salmon on sesame bagel and would come right back for it. Perfect ratio of salmon to cream cheese to capers and onion. Nothing overpowering the salmon, just making it more delicious. Bagel was toasted just right and the sandwich was wrapped well and cut fully! Nothing bugs me more than fighting with partially cut wrapping paper and then fighting to tear it. Loved it and coming back for more! Came back a second time: same amazing experience just more people! This time took a photo! 😉

Edith’s Sandwich Counter is a small, casual spot that offers a variety of sandwiches made with bagels, pita, or housemade bread, along with pastries. Originally starting as a sandwich pop-up within Paulie Gee's pizzeria, it has now evolved into a Jewish deli sandwich concept. The menu features options like smoked salmon and heirloom tomatoes on bagels, chicken schnitzel on rye bread, and house-smoked brisket pastrami on pita.
To-go sandwich spot with a selection of delicious sandwiches and bagels. I like if you like a mix of strong flavors and textured, you can’t go wrong. We got the PEC&L and the Middle Eastern on everything bagels and they were superb! The iced coffee slush was fun to drink.

I'm conflicted on how to rate this business. Its unique in its offering, which I appreciate, but it doesn't master the uniqueness. The coffee shake with tahhini is a nice idea, but the tahhini flavor isn't there strongly, no chunks, it's just in the color mainly. The bagels are okay. I got the middle eastern, but it didn't have any strong flavors really. Overall good, but not somewhere I'd come back to I think.
Azzam A — Google review
Can speak to the Edith pastrami sandwich and the breakfast wrap (spicy egg + sausage) both of which were very tasty. Service is a bit slow during the weekend when there’s a long line. Not much seating space so you’re mostly standing outside waiting for sandwiches

Deli
Carnegie Deli, located in Midtown West, is renowned for its legendary sandwiches and the best strawberry cheesecake you'll ever taste. Despite some negative reviews, many visitors find the deli to be a fantastic destination that everyone should experience at least once. The deli's uptown Manhattan location near Central Park makes it a convenient stop for those exploring the area.
We had the corned beef sandwich while attending a show. Staff were friendly, the food was delicious, and there were tables nearby to stand and eat at. A NY tradition that shouldn't be missed.
Jackie A — Google review
I visited Carnegie Deli, a well-known establishment in the heart of the city, and I was eager to experience what all the buzz was about. I decided to try the lobster roll along with a side of fries, and while the flavors were delightful, I found the portion sizes to be quite overwhelming. The lobster roll was generously packed with tender, flavorful lobster meat, and the accompanying fries were crispy and well-seasoned. However, despite my best efforts, I couldn't finish my meal due to the sheer size of the portions. One aspect that detracted from my experience was the beverage service. I had ordered a glass of white wine to complement my meal, but the server mistakenly brought me a glass of red instead. This mix-up was disappointing, as I was looking forward to the crispness of white wine to pair with the seafood. While the red wine was decent, it didn’t quite match the culinary experience I had envisioned. In terms of ambiance, Carnegie Deli felt decidedly touristy. The bustling atmosphere and the large number of visitors made it feel less intimate and more like a place designed for quick stops rather than a leisurely dining experience. While I understand that it’s a popular spot for tourists, I prefer dining establishments that offer a more authentic local vibe. Overall, while my meal had its highlights, the combination of the oversized portions, the drink mix-up, and the tourist-heavy environment left me feeling that I wouldn’t choose to return. If you’re seeking a classic deli experience with a twist, you might find some enjoyment here, but for those looking for a more genuine atmosphere, it may be worth exploring other options.

Carnegi Deli on 7th Ave was always my favorite restaurant in New York, so sorry they've closed it years ago. The Madison Square Garden location has the same quality sandwiches and cheesecakes but lacks the magic of the original place. Hope one day they can reopen a new restaurant and place back all the celebrities pictures on the walls.

FULL DISCLOSURE: This review is for their old location. The pastrami here was absolutely top notch and stacked at least 8 inches high. The real highlight here is the cheesecake (which is available to purchase online and ship to all over the U.S.). It is absolutely BY FAR THE BEST CHEESECAKE I have ever had. Sat next to Dennis Rodman my last time there and he was super chill.

Went to the Carnegie Deli for brunch on Saturday afternoon we had about a 20 minute wait. Food was fantastic. I had the pastrami sandwich while my wife had a chicken salad sandwich. We had quick efficient service and dined at an outside table since the weather was beautiful. This is a classic deli with all the deli foods you would want. I would put the restaurant on par with Katz and it is much easier to get to if you are in midtown. Would definitely go here again

Cheesecake to remember? I hope so! Had this back 10 years ago now, and hopeful the recipe has remained the same. I've married a cheesecake fanatic, with a very discerning palette. Deli
Restaurant
PJ Bernstein is a classic Jewish deli and full-service restaurant located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Established in 1965, it offers traditional Eastern European and Jewish dishes such as pastrami sandwiches, chopped liver, pierogi, blintzes, gefilte fish, and latkes. The deli is known for its towering pastrami sandwich and mouth-watering soup made fresh daily.
Real New York, old school Jewish deli. They’ve got all the classics, including my favorite: kasha varnishkes and knishes, plus vegetable soup. The soup was hearty, the right amount of salt and a tasty broth with chunks of veggies. The knish had a great texture and flavor (though was a little overpriced when compared to Zabar’s excellent offerings). It’s worth the trip for the kasha varnishkes which tasted just like my grandma’s and brought back all the old inner happiness. The vibe is relaxed, friendly, and service is fast. I’m not a meat-eater but they offered all the classic meat deli dishes including matzah ball soup, liver, various sandwiches and all the yummy side dishes you’d expect. Great spot for brunch or for bring home a fest for visiting family!

We ordered delivery via phone today. We got a pastrami sandwich, an everything bagel with lox, and a poppyseed bagel with white fish chunks. Everything was delicious. The whitefish was clean tasting, fresh, and flaky. It wasn’t too salty, either. It came with red onion slices, sliced tomatoes, lettuce, capers and black olives. It also came with cream cheese, but it was delicious without it. Overall, it was a great deli/restaurant. The only one thing less than perfect was that it took more than an hour to deliver to an address 4 blocks away. We placed our order at 1pm, and we didn’t get our food until 2pm. Everything else was great. I would definitely go back again, but probably go pick it up myself or eat in there next time.

Came for a late breakfast and got a half of sandwich with a soup and a latkes pancake as a side. Pancake was a little bit too much on dough, but the soup and the sandwich were really great! Reuben was full of pastrami and sauerkraut was topping it just right. Coleslaw was a bit watery though. Sandwich was also supplied with pickles and Russian dressing and they were awesome!

An alternative deli in the UES, with friendly service, offers tasty breakfast and lunch of classics as salmon & bagels, cheese blintzes and good pastrami sandwiches. Recommended!

On 10/29 I placed a take out order. When home I found that one pint of Grandpa’s chicken soup was missing. I called the restaurant immediately & told them about the missing item. I stated that I would not be able to return & pick it up but asked for a refund instead. Gave the person on the phone my credit card information. She told me it could take a few days to process. So far there has been no credit posted. I understand that mistakes happen but your establishment’s response shows poor customer service.

I recently just started ordering from here, hands down the BEST potato salad ive had so far in nyc! I also don’t eat pork but love salami, their selection of soft and hard kosher salami is the only one out of many delis I tried that I actually enjoyed! 😍 a very happy customer as I order another meal from them!

First timer at this deli. Ordered the corned beef and swiss on a hardroll with the deli mustard. It was good and hot but I ended up saving it for the next day at lunch. I was a bit worried about that but I was too full from bagels that morning. The sandwhich was the BEST corned beef I've ever had. Very impressed with the taste and freshness of everything. Simply excellent.

Deli
Cherry Valley Deli & Grill is a beloved 24-hour spot in Queens, NY, known for its generous deli sandwiches and basic grocery items. This deli has become a must-visit for many travelers, especially those craving their famous smothered sweet potato fries—affectionately dubbed "couch potatoes." The welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff create an inviting experience from the moment you step inside.
Cherry Valley Deli & Grill in Whitestone is a true gem! After visiting several times, I can say their insanely large selection of heroes and sandwiches is unmatched. They’ve got all the classics plus some wild, creative combinations that somehow all work—and taste amazing. From the Con Ed hero to the FDNY, everything has been spot-on, and the best part is they’ll let you customize your order just how you like it. Always a delicious experience!

Burger and steak had NO seasoning. Both were terrible. Waffle fries were the only thing that were edible, actually the hero bread was very good. Totally dissatisfied. This place is overrated… perhaps it’s the young crowd who order after a night of drinking because I don’t understand the 4.4

I recently visited Cherry Valley Deli in Queens, NY, and had an outstanding experience! From the moment I walked in, the welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff made me feel right at home. The deli's extensive menu offers a wide variety of delicious options, ensuring there's something for everyone. I particularly enjoyed their signature sandwiches, which were fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. The service was quick and efficient, even during peak hours. Overall, Cherry Valley Deli is a gem in Queens, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic meal. I'll definitely be returning soon!

Whenever I am in NY I have to come here to get the smothered sweet potato fries and any sandwich on the menu. All of the sandwiches I have ever had from here are delicious. The latest visit was after flying in on the redeye from California and I arrived at just after 5am. Before even heading to my my hotel in Manhattan I made my way to Queens to get my usual smothered sweet potato fries ( I think they call them couch potatoes) and I went with the chopped cheese sandwich this time. Once again perfection! I will continue to make this my first stop anytime I am in NY. This place is a hidden gem that everyone needs to know about. Thanks for always being delicious!

Heard so much about the sandwiches so had to try. Was expecting more from the Beast Hero. I can appreciate the gravy trying to tie in the chicken cutlet, bacon, Swiss cheese, and onion rings. This deli has a great selection of drinks and snacks.
Christine S — Google review
Ordered a bomb hero and some waffle fries, and I could say that the waffle fries were delicious. The sandwich on the other hand was a different story. The sandwich smelled great, almost like a thanksgiving dinner but it didn't taste nearly as good as it smelled. The reason was because the sandwich had this weird taste that I couldn't quite place with every bite. I tried a piece of the beef alone and that tasted fine so I don't think the weird taste was coming from the beef in the sandwich. Immediately after eating this sandwich, I ended up on the toilet. I'm a fat dude so normally my stomach is built Ford tough for all sorts of greasy and fatty foods but my body just couldn't handle this sandwich well. I still gave this place two stars rather than one because I enjoyed the waffle fries. All things considered, I didn't think the prices were too bad compared to the delis near my house but I don't think I'd come back after my experience.

Roaches Roaches Roaches A store that generates probably $500k+ a month in sales, would be great if you reinvest a little bit back in and not be so greedy. If I'm willing to pay $20 sandwich you should be willing to spend $200 a month on an exterminator. Grody. Never again
Tamir K — Google review
The 24-hour breakfast here is delicious and reasonably priced (cost about $10). The home-fries actually taste the best compared to the home-fries I've had at diners in NYC, being slightly crispy on the edges but still soft and starchy without being burnt. Ordered the sausage and eggs platter and requested no toast because I cannot eat gluten. The staff asked if I wanted extra home-fries instead and it was amazing that was an option. The food was fresh and relatively-quick considering how busy they were (roughly a 6 minute wait). It's the basic deli-food prepared to the highest standard I've seen in a deli. I can't say much about their specialty sandwiches but I know if I'm ever in the area, this is a solid option for food. 10/10

Anthony & Son Panini Shoppe is a popular Italian takeout spot in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This family-run shop has been serving classic New York-style sandwiches for 25 years. Their menu features a variety of signature heros, paninis, wraps, salads, and breakfast specials named after local figures or landmarks. The shop is known for its mouthwatering sandwiches that have gained attention on social media and food channels.
Exactly what you want out of a classic nyc sandwich shop- huge menu, delicious warm and cold cuts, and the owner of the shop at the register most days. I have been several times but on this visit I got the butch. Great flavor but I will say I wish I stuck to the godfather. It’s what they are known for and it’s hard to beat. Quick service and limited seating outside if you cannot resist the temptation of tearing into your sandwich right away.

Had this place on my bucket list for a long time. Happy I finally got here, and what an awesome experience. I got a bunch of sandwiches for myself and my family. They were awesome!!! My wife got the FDNY, I got my mother the Anthony & Daughter and added beaded eggplant, I took home the Soza and split the Almost Perfect with my friend!!!! Everyone loved what they ate. Sampled some their's and let them try mine. The Almost Perfect was actually PERFECT!! It was such a unique sandwich that was on an amazing semolina hero. Can't wait to go back💯💯💯!!!!!

After seeing this place for months on my IG feed, I decided to pop in while I was in Brooklyn to try the Matt & Steve 2.0 and The Paisano. Both sandwiches did not disappoint. The service was quick and and they also have a lot of pre-made dessert options as well. There's a couple of picnic tables outside on the side of the building but other than that, there's not much else regarding seating.

Just stopped in this spot for some lunch, thank goodness I did. The Tuscan delight sub was amazing, literally hit the spot just with half. I'm super glad I walked into this spot. I'll definitely come back if I'm the area.

I loved this place. I was treated well. I walked in and ordered a latte and paisano hero. The cashier told me that it was the same price for a roll, hero or white bread. I just got it how it normally comes and told them spicy. It tasted great. The latte was legit, excellent tasting. The female working there made it for me. The place is out of my way plus I have to feed the meter, so I know I won't be coming that often. It is definitely worth a try, though. I like that they sell many different types of ravioli in the back in the freezer (among them crab and lobster).

Got the AJ hero. Overall good, bread was fresh and tasty. Not the best ive had in NYC but its solid, would need to try more sandwiches to better gauge

Got the FDNY, the vodka sauce chicken cutlet sandwich with mozzarella. It was good but felt a bit dry, had to pay for an extra vodka sauce which feels a bit much considering the sandwich is already $20. Either way it was good sandwich which could last 2 meals.

My favorite deli in the whole of New York! Sandwiches are always fantastic and flavorful, good portions, and good proportions of meat to veg. Great selection of drinks, chips, etc. Lots of authentic Italian groceries, snacks, etc. And a great fresh mozzarella/frozen fresh pasta/frozen homemade dinner section. Yum. I come here any time I’m in the area, since I don’t live nearby anymore. Sometimes I go out of my way just to come here. It’s great. ❤️

I always have a good experience here. Great experience all around. Delicious food and a great Saturday Brunch vibe. Took the Matzo Ball Soup and Smash-burger despite coming for brunch and didn’t disappoint. Only negative is they’re moving closer to their Sister location “Gertrud’s” in Park Slope in a month.

I paid $30 bucks for this bowl. Dry salmon and poorly cooked eggs that I could’ve hired my 5 year old cousin to do. Shockingly under my expectations. I’d say come here for cold brew but they didn’t even have that. Come here for vibes. Don’t spend a dime on food. 1/5 EDIT: We were invited back to give them another shot. Food was delicious. Service was above and beyond. Unfortunately, we found a stray hair in one of our dishes which was disappointing but the staff were apologetic. We appreciate the service but in regard to food safety and hygeine - we were hoping for higher standard.

Had a very tasty broccoli Caesar and a soup however the service and the attitude we were greeted with was very unwelcoming and it made us feel like we were an inconvenience to them throughout our whole meal. After we finished our meal they rushed to give us the check (without us asking for it). Quite upsetting especially because this was a birthday brunch.

Gerties the vibes were amazing. Unlike other restaurants, Gertie wasn't afraid to change whole music genres it was a fun experience to enjoy quality music with some quality food. The staff were very friendly and offered to answer any questions I had. My favorite spot to sit is at the bar as you can see all your chefs hard at work. Good food comes with a passion. Personally, prices are a bit much it's a good treat but wouldn't say it would be good to eat every day.

We held our boys' bar mitzvah service at Gertie in mid June. Ioana, the events manager, is fantastic. She was responsive, accommodating and helped us think through how we would use the Gertie space for our 65-person event. It was the perfect setting and atmosphere. The staff was friendly and welcoming and the food was top-notch. The team also prepared beautiful candy and pickled vegetable favors, which we had not been expecting. We would not hesitate to hold another event there again.

One of the best breakfast spots in the city. Tried to come here during weekend, forget about it. So came here on a weekday and it was almost perfect. My bagel sandwich was a bit salty but everything just went along so well. Everyone at my table loved their breakfast. So no complaints there. Coffee, I’ve had better but it’s still great. Can’t say much for atmosphere since I ordered for delivery, but sandwiches are packed and made carefully. Not the regular bodega 4 slice of whatever meat you choose. Nah this was definitely one of the better places I’ve ordered a sandwich from. I was feeling big back today so I got 2 (1 for lunch and 1 for dinner). Both exceeded expectations and I will def order from here again. Sandwich 1 (lunch): pastrami king on a hero (threw a glove on cus it can get kinda messy (in the best way)). Loaded with hot pastrami, hot cherry peppers, pepper jack cheese, and Cajun mayo. Banger Sandwich 2 (dinner): godfather on a roll. Loaded with salami, pepperoni, mortadella, sopressata, cappicola, prosciutto, ham cappicola, fresh mozz, lettuce, tomato, roasted red peppers, and oil/vinegar. OD banger

Very busy diner, there a few seat to sit on. We went in at peak breakfast time, this was our first time in a deli so it a new experience which had I had the option, I wish I had more time to place my order, but when everyone else is running at 100mph, you have to also. Ordered two #5 meals, one pancake one French toast. You move down to the other end of the shop to pay and pick up your order. I'm a regular at this place due to the fact is, I work in the area. Whenever I order a meal I always order extra french fries and have no problem paying for it. But you call this extra french fries. Rupert Jee's Hello Deli is a unique local establishment that gained fame for its mouth-watering sandwiches, salads, and more. The deli has been featured on "The Late Show with David Letterman" and is known for naming their sandwiches after celebrities and famous New York references. They offer fantastic egg and cheese sandwiches made with crispy yet soft rolls toasted on the griddle. The friendly staff ensures a pleasant experience by offering to add condiments to your order.
I'm not sure that Rupert is still involved, but we stopped in before our visit to the Colbert Show and got a couple of sandwiches. Seating was limited to one tiny table - not intended for dine-in. We had the cook pick is his two favorite sandwiches. He made us a buffalo chicken and a teriyaki chicken hero, with no veggies. He said veggies take away from the flavor of the meat. Both were excellent.

FANTASTIC egg and cheese sandwiches. It's in the details—the rolls they use are crisp yet soft—and they toast them on the griddle by default. The super friendly staff always asks if you want salt, pepper, ketchup instead of leaving you to disassemble the sandwich to put them on yourself later (as too many delis do). And, for a place in the heart of a tourist area, it's super reasonable. Has become a morning routine for me. A++++ Would buy again!

I only went once cause I was in the area but if I’m around the area again I already know what I’m going for!

Yummy and amazing comfort food! I love the home feeling and the delicious Pernil! Everything was just as described and worth every good review. Will be back. 🤍🤍

My favorite lunch spot! doesn't over complicate things, affordable, good food, and good coffee.
Josiah V — Google review
My dining experience left much to be desired, particularly in regard to the advertised "messy" sandwich. Contrary to expectations, the sandwich lacked the promised chaos, featuring only a solitary piece of ham and bacon, with an inadequate portion of cheese. Given its $12 price tag, the portion of eggs, coupled with the scarce inclusion of meat and cheese, felt disproportionately underwhelming. The yogurt parfait provided a redeeming aspect, delivering a satisfying flavor profile. However, I would recommend exercising moderation in the sweetness department. While the parfait was enjoyable, the addition of honey, especially in the presence of already naturally sweet fruits, contributed to an overly sugary composition. A more balanced approach to sweetness would enhance the overall gastronomic experience.

Is there a 6-star review option?! I am very impressed with this place. The dark-haired lady behind the counter may as well have been three people. Rarely do I see someone as good at their job as she is. Her ability to take orders, communicate with staff and organize dishes/coffee while also greeting half of the customers by their first names and personal questions blew me away. She is one of a kind. The cooks were fast, efficient and built my “Mediterranean Bowl” perfectly. The waitress was kind, sweet, warm and prompt - I wasn’t bothered and I also wasn’t ignored (the perfect balance). I just happened across Lite Bites while working in the neighborhood and practically stumbled in for lunch. Let’s just say it’s the best accidental decision I’ve made since I don’t know when! PLEASE visit these fine people and don’t forget to TIP WELL! They deserve it.

This is my breakfast spot almost every morning. Today I finally got lunch. When I tell you the FOOD tasted like it was straight from Trinidad. Omg, I had it all on my plate. I told the owner to put everything but meat. To have this Caribbean Spot in the middle of Greenpoint is amazing. It's right off of the backend of the G line. Never had a bad meal here. They have a variety of meats available, it's just that I'm not a meat love. They have jerk chicken, stew chicken, curry chicken, beef etc. They cook different things every day. They always have fried bake and saltfish or herring. Also alloo pie aka potato pie. They also serve American food. You can dine in order to go plus you can call in for delivery plus use the other foods apps available.

What Lite Bites lacks in atmosphere and presence, it makes up for in taste and efficiency. I got a croissant Hashwich, a sandwich consisting of eggs, pepper jack cheese, hashbrowns, and ham. The Eggs were well cooked, folded nicely and fit perfectly inside the vessel of the croissant. The ham was less the star of the show and more of a supporting role, and the saltiness paired nicely with the spiciness of the cheese. Ultimately, my favorite part was the unsung hero of the sandwich, the hashbrown. It was the perfect thing to soak up any grease, and was delightfully fluffy on the inside, despite having a nice crunch with every bite. I also liberally applied the hot sauce that they provided, which seemed to be a habanero based sauce. It went perfectly with the sandwich, and I used all of it that they provided. I also ordered a vegetarian egg wrap from off the menu, consisting of scrambled eggs, avocado, tomato, spinach and feta cheese. The staff were easily able to accommodate a custom order. The eggs were nice and fluffy, the vegetables were fresh, but the tortilla could've been crisper, as it started to fall apart as time went on. The habenero hot sauce was an amazing addition to the wrap as well. The only department that Lite Bites is lacking in is coffee. There was no menu for coffee, and no customization options. I asked if they had a coffee menu I was missing, but they informed me if I wanted a coffee I could get it hot, or iced, and that was it. On the plus side though, they did have a large refrigerator with a plethora of options for canned and bottled beverages, some of which I had never even seen before. They also had the rater rare Inca kola, which was delicious as always. Overall, I thought Lite Bites was a very pleasant for a quick breakfast, and their indoor dining tables and fast service made for an excellent fast breakfast for the busy day ahead of me.

Foragers Market is a charming spot that offers a variety of locally sourced meat, seafood, and produce from a Columbia County farm. Visitors can indulge in delicious and healthy cold food options available by the pound and made to order. The market also boasts a quality grocery selection, an impressive array of beers, and an excellent butcher counter. It's a great place to grab a bite with family or friends while enjoying the fresh and flavorful offerings.
Very nice little market with a good selection of high quality meats and cheeses along with other healthy foods. There's a bit of everything there, a quick bite from the deli case, soups and salads, or fresh ingredients for supper. The workers there are super friendly and helpful. Visit! You'll like it. Just be mindful where you are shopping...let's just say it's a wealthy area.

I really like this place. Tasty, healthy cold food choices sold by the pound and ready on demand. Quality grocery, good beer and butcher selection. Ate at the counter with my son. I recommend.
Nathan M — Google review
Ok so 3 stars here. Most of the staff was friendly and attentive, the place itself is beautiful and clean and the food looked healthy and properly gourmet. Unfortunately look at this bagel! They have a “Bialy” for $3 and I guess I see why. The cream cheese to toppings ratio is bad especially for New York and especially for Brooklyn!!! To be fair, I think the guy behind the counter was new. I got a choc chip cookie as well and it was delicious. Another issue was prices not being labeled + everything being generally super overpriced. This is clearly for a certain crowd so be wary if you’re not trying to spend an arm + leg on “ok” food
Ruby D — Google review
Nice layout and convenient location, but they do a poor job labeling (a) prices and (b) expiration dates. Overpriced in general and many times the sticker shock arriving at the till is surprising because prices are labeled so infequently. Also, the meat and seafood selection is very limited.
Steven R — Google review
As a grocery, it has a good selection of high quality and artisan food and the produce here is very fresh. As a lunch spot, the salad bar is one of the best in the area and the sandwiches are also really good. They also have a juice and smoothie bar. However, I rarely come here for lunch anymore because the food here is just ridiculously expensive, despite the quality. If you don't mind coughing up $10 for a small salad, go for it. Locals tip: The one thing that is a good deal here though: the roasted chicken.
Bridget B — Google review
Really good salad bar with amazing fresh options, I love the sweet potatoes and some of the tossed salad options! Also has some nice home style hot options. And all the grocery items are very local so you’ll have a wholesome meal
Meherun S — Google review
This place is really hit and miss. Grocery wise they are pretty well stocked but priced pretty high, as is standard with small bodegas. On their hot food end their turkey chili was good but some others were lukewarm. As for their drink bar, one time I ordered a smoothie and it took 10 minutes to make. It was yummy and the staff were nice but how can 2 people staffed not be able to make 1 smoothie in 5 minutes, with no other customers? Another time I ordered a chai latte and I literally saw the guy take out an almost empty carton of chai and he looked hesitant for a moment, maybe deciding to tell me that I would have to wait for them to make more and ask me to order something else but then he proceeded to make this 3oz thing of chai and added milk to it. I didn’t say anything because maybe I missed him adding more chai at some point... but I paid $5 for spiced milk. Still 3 stars because the people are nice but they still have some things to learn.
Irene F — Google review
Beware the price. I got a good avocado roll for $5.25 -- that was one of the best bang per buck options. Good vegetarian choices but the $8.99 / lb salad bar and $5 Chiapods are overpriced. Nice cashier though!

Teitel Brothers, located at 2372 Arthur Ave, is a century-old family-owned wholesaler that provides a wide range of imported Italian food products. The store is packed with items like aged Parmeggiano-Reggiano, Sicilian oregano, authentic olive oil from Tuscany and Sicily, and torrone. It's a bustling market offering goods at the intersection of Jewish and Italian cultures. Additionally, nearby Calabria Pork Store offers an array of Italian meats.
Obviously this place needs no reviews, it's buzzing with shoppers, but nevertheless I would give it a solid 5 star rating. A lot of Italian specialities, imported and domestic. Great variety of olives. I found one of my favorite pasta - Fregola Sarda here. ❤❤❤ It's not readily available in every store. Despite rather small size and being full with customers everyone will get personal attention. I loved the fact that instead of plastic bags for the cuts they use old school waxed paper. Mother Earth is grateful. My whole interaction with Michael and observation of the well oiled mechanism of the way the shop works left me with the smile on my face for the rest of the day. Thanks .

A True Bronx Gem – Teitel Brothers on Arthur Avenue is Outstanding! Teitel Brothers is hands down one of the best Italian grocery stores in New York. Located right on Arthur Avenue, this family-run gem is packed with old-school charm, top-quality products, and unbeatable service. Their selection of imported Italian goods, specialty cheeses, cured meats, and olive oils is second to none. Everything is authentic, fresh, and reasonably priced. You can tell they take pride in what they sell and care deeply about their customers. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and always happy to help—whether you’re hunting down a specific ingredient or just want a recommendation for your next Sunday dinner. If you’re anywhere near the Bronx and appreciate real Italian food and old-world service, Teitel Brothers is a must-visit. It’s not just a store—it’s a piece of New York history.

This place takes charcuterie boards to the next level! Their selection of Artigiano cheeses are outstanding. Not to mention their cold cuts (deli meats to non New Yorkers), olives, imported everything Italian, baccalao and dried beans. You will not find their selection anywhere else. Family owned since 1915. Their staff is friendly and has a vast knowledge of their products. If you wanna make a good impression at your next gathering shop here!

When you refer to a place as Old school you imply it promises great customer service, fresh products and quality. 115 years of family run business and these guys are still firing on all cylinders. They even gave me some free pesto just because. Nice ownership is the cherry on top. Everyone should stop by for the best Italian meats, cheeses, olives etc.

Lovely little store! If you love pastrami and prosciutto then that’s your store! They cold cuts always fresh. This deli is overpriced and the workers are very rude. Women behind the counter refused to give me my student discount and ran the price of the item too high as a result, but when she corrected the price she would no longer give me the student discount. Super scammey. Food is 1-3$ more expensive than the deli just down the street and it's not better.

Good halal food but wrongly advertised prices on misleading shop menu signs, and no explanation when brought that up to cashier. Considerable price difference.

solid deli / convenience store located on Avenue A. everything from snacks and candy to some grocery and household items are sold here along with the deli + grill offerings. medium-sized spot, organized and fairly clean. NY Grill also offers delivery via most delivery apps. got “Scooby Doo” sandwich, which is chicken cutlet hero with bacon, jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. the sandwich was fine/okay but it had way too much mayo for me, in general but it was solid. however the real winner was the curly fries i ordered, too. the fries were nice, crunchy, and not greasy. carby fried goodness. the “Scooby Doo” sandwich was $8ish and the curly fries were $4. staff are quick and efficient.

My favorite deli in NYC! The guys in the back are always so friendly and knowledge I have been coming here my whole time in New York they have AMAZING cold cuts as well as a variety of imported goodies from Italy. They make fresh mozzarella every morning which if you have never had fresh mozzarella you are definitely missing out.
Franchesca B — Google review
Great neighborhood Italian shop. Great place to pick up some pasta (frozen/dried), fresh mozzarella, and made-to-order sandwiches. My only complaint is that the rolls/bread for sandwiches are at the front door and anyone can reach in to grab. I saw a lady reach in, felt a couple rolls, then pulled another one out for a sandwich to be made.

I was double parked on 36st waiting for a car to leave my driveway who parked there illegally. The owner of D and T went to park his jeep and hit the back of my car. Instead of at least saying sorry he said that's what you get for double parking. He was very arrogant rude and could care less. The picture with the 3 lines is my car. Anyway at least He should have acknowledged his wrong doing. You have a very poor attitude and myself and family will never buy from your store again. Learn to respect your neighbors and costumers of over 40 years I will take my business some place else. Learn to drive and park you moron. I worked for Ferrari for 14 yrs then opened my own driving school. 33 years of great business and very professional not like you.

As always, Dave & Tony's is the best place in the area to get your fix of Italian (& some Croatian) goods. From bread & biscotti to pasta & prosciutto, they have it! Always fresh & good prices! P.S. - try their homemade fresh mozzarella, olives & artichokes, they are awsome!

Ben's Deli Grocery, a New York staple since 1972, offers a diverse menu featuring classic deli favorites like potato pancakes and hot open roast beef sandwiches. Their Fresh Turkey Wrap with cranberry sauce is a must-try, reminiscent of Thanksgiving dinner. Recently introducing a plant-based menu with options like the plant-based corned beef Reuben and meatless burger, Ben's Deli caters to various dietary preferences.
Inside this bodega is an outstanding, affordable, authentic, Mexican spot. Great burrito, Birra Taco’s, quesadillas steak, al pastor. All delicious and fresh - just opened. Worth trying. Don’t let the outside fool you. Very good take out as well!

great coffee omg, usually you got low grade coffee at most grocery, looking forward to try the food
Anter — Google review
Honestly, i’m reluctant to write this because I don’t want to wait in line, but the food here is great!! First up, my partner got pork tacos, he said they were slamming, great flavor, meat was juicy and crispy in all the right places. I got a vegetarian burrito, nice mix of sautéed veggies, with rice and beans and all the little extras you need. Best of all, the fresh fried chips with a did-not-disappoint order of guac. On top of that they were friendly too. Def will be my go to spot in the neighborhood for tasty and affordable Mexican.

From handmade tortillas to succulent tacos and delightful desserts, every bite is a testament to their dedication to quality. A culinary fiesta that won't break the bank, Ben's Deli is a must-visit for Mexican food enthusiasts in Manhattan.

The chef offered to cook me something just for me. It was great. I really like when small companies can flourish in this city. Ask the chef to make you something special and he'll ask you a few questions and make you something great.
Johnny B — Google review
Ordered chicken flautas and they were great (I think they call them tacos doradas). Had to wait for the chef to come back and cook them, but well worth the wait. They came w/sour cream, cheese, lettuce, radishes, guacamole and tomato and 4 containers of salsa verde, pico de gallo, sour cream, and spicy sour cream. Unfortunately it seems to be difficult to order over the phone so they need to improve that as I wanted to order again but nobody picked up....
Barbara L — Google review
The deli is nice. That is not the problem. The problem is the chef making the Mexican food. I went in there and saw him wearing no gloves and then put his finger in his mouth and started handling food. Like I really want covid from him... The health dept should investigate him.

Was recommended by a person that works at the health center. Authentic Mexican food inside a bodega. You would not think it's good, but it is. Quick bite to eat on lunch break
