Circolino Città Alta is a charming eatery located in the medieval heart of the Upper Town, housed in a former monastery turned prison. The restaurant offers a carefully sourced traditional menu and an extensive wine list. In winter, guests can dine amidst seventeenth-century frescoes, while in summer, they can enjoy the pleasant garden. The establishment prides itself on its meticulous search for raw materials and respect for tradition.
I visited Cirocolino twice with a cousin, and both times were absolutely wonderful! The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Along with the drinks, they serve bread, which is a lovely touch. The pasta, burger, and cheeses are all outstanding! The portions are very generous - more than enough to satisfy, and every bite is full of flavor. I especially want to praise the staff - today, the gentleman serving the cheese kindly looked for a colleague who speaks better English so they could explain the cheeses to me in more detail. That was such a thoughtful gesture and truly made my experience even better. I’ll really miss the flavors of this place! Also, the lady at the register is incredibly kind and radiates positive energy – it honestly makes you not want to leave. Highly recommended!

A lot of local people - that’s sign worth it. Very good drinks, amazing view outside (garden), pizza it’s the best in Bergamo, staff very good and doing very well service. Highly recommended. The restaurant filled up in 10 minutes into a full garden of local people. You need visit that if you wanna eat amazing good and have good service and perfect staff.

Very busy spot for dinner special at the weekend. Reservation was needed. We have ordered Rabit with polenta, beef with polenta and two pizzas + bottle of red wine and 2 Coca Cola paid around 80 euros with coperto. We didn’t have to wait long for our order. Everything was tasty. Portion was not to big. If you order only one dish (no starters) you might be a little bit hungry but then you have a space for dessert so overall is good👍
KASIA P — Google review
We have the impression that the waiters are bored and seemed to be angry with customers and foreigns. Food was fine, price is fair and we were pleased to be acomodated at the garden. Recommendations: - casoncelli (vegetarian) - mushrooms and some sort of museline Add: a half jug of wine of the house (4 servings) Also, the chicken a la milanesa was taste and fresh

Arrived in Bergamo and had to try this place despite a couple of dodgy reviews. Walked in about 6pm and were immediately sat at a nice table. My family and I had a fantastic time. Great food (the steak was awesome!), really friendly staff who were helpful on food and wine selections and great fun. We were sat upstairs and we all commented how good the acoustics were for conversation at the table in a reasonably full restaurant by the time we left at about 9:30pm. As for the slightly negative reviews on here… Hey everyone has an off day, don’t let that put you off this great establishment. Cost wise… €170 for 4 people having 2-3 courses each, soft drinks and a decent bottle of local wine to complement the steak. We felt that was very reasonable considering the quality of the experience. We could easily have dined there without deserts and the alcoholic beverages for well under €100

Great restaurant at citta alta with a lot of local products. They offer a variety of local cuisine, beer, wines, pizza and sweets. When we went it was packed and had quite a wait time, so it was a good thing we had a reservation in advance. The dishes were great and the pizza was very light.

Recommended by an Italian friend — and it certainly didn’t disappoint! Located in the medieval heart of Bergamo, in a building that once housed an ancient monastery later converted into a prison, Il Circolino di Città Alta offers cozy, atmospheric spaces that make for a truly memorable dining experience. We enjoyed an exquisite Italian lunch, with each dish beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The pizzas were light and crispy, while the Caprese salad featured ripe, juicy tomatoes and a whole mozzarella, perfectly seasoned with fresh herbs. Very reasonably priced. The waiting staff were attentive and polite throughout. A wonderful spot — I’d definitely recommend visiting when in Bergamo!

Ristorante la Tana is a charming rustic venue located in the village of San Lorenzo, Bergamo Alta. It is known for its warm welcome and tasteful surroundings. The restaurant offers a high-quality dining experience with a meticulous selection of ingredients that make a difference in their dishes. Some of their specialties include chestnut pancakes, creamy pumpkin, handmade Casoncelli pasta, and giant Orobic sheep meatballs with coconut milk reduction.
Superb gastronomical experience from start to end. I had beef heart tartare and sheep liver with crab bisque. Both were absolutely delicious and quite unique. The wine selection was also very good and, finally, I had a great chat about music with the owner, who is a gentleman.

La Tana is a great choice in Bergamo if you’re looking for an authentic experience in the cittá alta. The menu features creative combinations and unusual ingredients. We tried the rabbit tartare and the famous snails. A authentic visit for anyone wanting to step out of the ordinary and explore unique flavors
Juliana Y — Google review
This was certainly the most interesting dinner I have had in Bergamo. You will probably need to book a table as I found the restaurant occupied multiple evenings. The kitchen seems to specialize in unorthodox ingredients, do not expect any usual meals. I had raw beef heart tartare and then lamb offal with river shrimp, everything very tasty. The cheese plate for a dessert was decent. Great selection of local wines, also unusual varieties. For that experience, it was not too expensive, not more than any other usual restaurant in the old city. Great dinner, thanks!
Robert H — Google review
It is a very good restaurant, we were just unsatisfied with a couple of things, hence 4 and not 5 stars. We ordered one of the tasting menus, where we found the portions to be small. The first dishes were amazing but the last one fell short. I recommend getting separate dishes instead of that. The staff is incredibly polite and friendly, also the atmosphere inside the restaurant is perfect.

Ate here during a trip to Bergamo last week. Was recommend by our hotel as a good local restaurant option. Located very slightly off the main road, its well worth the trip down the hill. Menu was limited but we liked that. Food was delicious and staff were excellent. I picked a dish for my main course that I didn't particularly enjoy the texture of but it was still very tasty and my husband gladly polished off everything I didn't finish. Wine was excellent and we really enjoyed our evening here. Would recommend to people visiting the city

I have come here time and time again and it never disappoints. One of my favourite dining experiences worldwide, and that does not come easy. Food is absolutely amazing, and very well priced for the calibre of dishes served. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable, and the wines are interesting and delicious. I have brought so many of my friends here. Cannot recommend enough.

Wow this would be the best dining experience we have had in Italy. The food was amazing ** next level amazing. The service was outstanding Highly recommend this restaurant a jewel for bergamo. A special thanks to our waitress Caira ( i hope i got it right) your passion for the food made it more amazing. Ate here a 2nd night wow just as amazing a little gem

Cozy little restaurant in a nice traditional setting! The food was delicious. Maybe the best pasta I’ve ever had(The ravioli with sheep and anchovies)🫶🏽 If you’re looking for a good tiramisu you definitely have to try as well! A bit of the main road so very worth a visit when I’m Bergamo!

Trattoria Parietti is a charming hillside restaurant that has been serving traditional Bergamo dishes since 1974. Located in the Upper City, it offers a warm and welcoming family environment for both small groups and conventions. The menu features beloved dishes such as casoncelli, scarpinocc, risottos, baked rabbit, and Grandma Ines' meatloaf.
As a French traveler I went twice to this restaurant near Bergamo because for me it is one of my favourite restaurant in Italy. Food is really great and typical, many choices, the brasato and polenta are amazing. The restaurant visual/inside is really typical and has to be discovered, you are really living the Italian life. Waiters and restaurant's team is really nice, helpful and happy to work here.

Amazing, but really amazing restaurant. Service was on point or more, such funny and amazing people which is so great to see in italy. They even offered us a purse holder to put on the table ! Food was amazing and really really affordable to try a maximum of authentic italian dishes ! It is a nice walk above bergamo to get there and pretty necessary to digest all we ate. Full of locals, and the absolute highlight of our trip in italy !

Staying in Citta Alta and not visiting Parietti should be a crime. Great vibe and way ahead of even twice as expensive restaurants. The Ravioli alla Canesi is one of the most savory dishes I have ever tasted! Might look like it's far from the city, but the walk from Citta Alta is super easy

Antica Trattoria La Colombina is a spacious and comfortable eatery located in the Upper City, near the birthplace of Gaetano Donizetti. The restaurant offers classic dishes and has a terrace with stunning city views. Its name is derived from the gate of Porta Colombina, which was likely part of the Monastery of San Gottardo.
Delicious food with a beautiful view. Casoncelli alla Bergamesca & truffle tagliatelle were very tasty, as was the cheese & meat platter. Make sure you reserve if you want to sit outside. Highly recommended.

Really great food. Everything tasted fresh and well made. It did take a bit of time for the main dishes to come out. The casoncelli, which is the regional specialty, in particular was delicious and really hit the spot.

I’m in love with Trattoria La Colombina! The food is absolutely a 10/10 – fresh, flavorful, and made with so much care. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff make you feel right at home. Definitely one of my favorite places to eat!
Lucia M — Google review
The pleasant atmosphere, quality ingredients, authenticity of the recipes and friendliness of the staff make it an easy choice. It’s a traditional restaurant with a limited menu and reasonable prices. I especially enjoyed the casoncelli alla bergamasca, the pork cheeks and the espresso with ice cream.
Daniel F — Google review
Stumbled upon this Trattoria by pure luck while venturing outside of the Citta Altà and I arrived right on time as they were opening and got lucky to have a beautiful table with a view even if I didn’t have a reservation. The food was amazing and such good value. I tried the Casoncelli alla Bergamasca and I was wowed! Soooo good! The only downside was that the lady that made me pay at the end was not very nice, a bit cold and unable to smile but the other staff were lovely. All in all, I highly recommend this place!
Marc-André G — Google review
The BEST Casoncelli alla Bergamasca ever, an amazing view, helpful and friendly staff. Hidden from the busy streets, this gem of a restaurant is definitely a must when visiting Bergamo.

Insanely delicious food, excellent wine and stunning views as it’s located on top of the hill. We were super lucky to get in without a reservation but the restaurant was packed. Carpaccio was recommended by the staff member and was exceptional. We had a great time here and a very friendly experience. We’re so full we couldn’t eat until the next day, beautiful

The menu showcases a creative range of dishes, from traditional Bergamasque recipes to innovative gourmet offerings like the Lobster Roll and Carroburger.
What a hidden gem! This wine bar was amazing and exceeded all expectations - wine, food, and vibes. We each got 2 glasses of wine for pre dinner drinks and some cured meats. Delicious. Would love to eat dinner here next time. Staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. Must visit if you love wine.
H L — Google review
Huge disappointment as for the restaurant you can find in the Michelin Guide. The dishes were served cold and, what’s more important, prepared without any imagination (you would expect that from the restaurant on the Michelin Guise list). Simple lamb (meat not cleaned properly) served with grilled pieces of vegetables, and tuna (as a fish of a day). The only interesting one was “Xiao Long Bao”, with some kind of character. But that’s it. Moreover, wine list is on 88 (!) pages, as this is a wine shop. But… the waiter couldn’t recommend anything, simply asking us if we want red, white or sparkling. I would call it: funny and unprofessional. We ordered red, for the price of not more than 40€. We got it. Relief. On top of that: the restaurant is in the residential area, far away from Cita Bassa. We have specially selected this place, as we have never been disappointed by the Michelin recommendation. Ane we wanted to celebrate our visit to Bergamo. Anyway: stay away from this place. Don’t go there: it’s a waste of time and money.
Robert W — Google review
Outstanding service and an overall fantastic experience. I came to the restaurant a little too late to enjoy the food, however the kitchen prepared a set of snack and cheese for me to go with my wine. The staff was excellent and my waiter took the time to ask me about the kind of wine I like and what I am looking for. He opened a bottle of a very nice Cuoredivino 2018 which I really enjoyed. The music was charming as well. I highly recommend this place for a social meeting, romantic date or simply just to sit down and enjoy a beautiful glass of vino. Absolutely flawless experience.
Jack N — Google review
Great restaurant located in Bergamo! The place is well-finished with a large collection of wines and modern paintings. The waiters are professional and well prepared. Moreover, both the ingredients and the cuisine are refined. All the flavours are valorised and food plating is in line with Michelin-starred restaurants. I really appreciated the pigeon, one of the most tricky meats, as well as the fish appetiser. Special experience!!! Strongly suggest!

The restaurant has a relaxed vibe and a leafy terrace, providing an authentic dining experience. It is known for serving delicious Bergamascan food with generous portions at budget-friendly prices. The trattoria concept offers rustic local cuisine without pretense, creating a unique dining experience for visitors.
We went to this restaurant for a dinner, because it was recommended by many sources. When we entered we felt like we were part of Italian family - great service, the owner was welcoming the guests. As for the food, for dinner there is a formula: first and second dishes + salad bar (you can pick your veggies, and the selection is good) + dessert, all for 25€ It was a great experience, we were lucky to get a spot without a reservation - this place is very popular, so better reserve in advance
Yulianna — Google review
What an experience! It was super fun and delicious, we felt like it was the real deal. We were seated at a shared table, very kind waiter explained the menu to us (in spanish so we would understand), there is a salad bar, you get water, wine, bread and one or two course meal. The atmosphere is eclectic and so charming! It felt genuine and honestly it was a treat! Price is very reasonable too.
Ilka M — Google review
They are offering a fixed menu plus a buffet for 25 Euro. A carafe of wine is included. Our pasta dishes were very good. The pork chop was very dry and was not seasoned. Boring. The roast beef was boring too.. On one photo what we gave back uneaten. The dessert was too sweet. The salad buffet was nothing to talk about. The cheapest available stuff. Because we prefer beer over wine, we asked if it's possible to change the included wine to beer. One waiter said yes, another said no. Finally I ordered one beer - a Heineken was the only available one. What a shame, because there are very good Italian beers. So we tried the wines. Big mistake. The cheapest wines on the market I guess. The waiters were friendly, the waitresses acted if they hate their job. The chairs are maximal uncomfortable.

The famous and charismatic Giuliana runs a restaurant that is truly special in Bergamo. We tried the casoncelli(Bergamo special type of ravioli), the gorgonzola gnocchi, long cooked beef with green sauce, veal with polenta and for dessert we had a bergamo special polenta dessert and tiramisu. All these dishes came with a salad buffét with 20 different selections of salads, 1/4 bottle of wine, water, bread & coffee with the desserts for €25 per person. Fantastic service, unique athmosphere and really tasty food.

La Marianna is a renowned bar and pastry shop known for its delicious fiordilatte gelato enriched with large pieces of dark chocolate. The idea for this delectable treat originated from the recipe for stracciatella alla romana and has been a specialty at La Marianna since 1961. The cafe, currently managed by Niccolo Panattoni, offers seating in a charming shaded courtyard, making it an ideal spot for breakfast or a snack before or after an afternoon concert.
I'm cheating to write this review, because my wife has a special bond with this place. She first sat here writing in her journal in 1998. Even if you don't have a long-term tie to this cafe, you'll really enjoy sitting here. Such a calming vibe.

Day trip to Bergamo, I stopped by to try Stracciatella (chocolate chip gelato). It is a birthday place of stracciatella. I am not big chocolate chip ice cream person. It was creamy and it was good. I wanted wafer cone, it is only come in 3 scoops, 4.50 euro. The wafer cone was okay. The other two favors were pistachios and strawberry. Stracciatella was the best of the three. Is it better than other gelato, not really.

The original stracciatella ice cream. Yes,this is much more delicious than anything sold as stracciatella. I became a fan. 🤩 Also tried polenta e osei which is a local specialty and very tasty. Crispy sweet polenta outside and some kind of cream with almond and apricot jam inside. Don't forget to try coffee with zabaglione as well, I loved it!!

At La Marianna, the birthplace of Stracciatella, simplicity turns into perfection. A scoop of history, a taste of tradition, and the delicate balance of cream and chocolate that has enchanted the world since 1961. Pure Italian elegance in a cone.

Good Gelato, cozy place, and options of dessert. Even it is chill, the outside terrace is a good place to relax. Gelato recomended: Stratiachella Pistachio
Daniel P — Google review
A Perfect Afternoon at La Marianna – Gelato, Aperol, and Sunshine after a walk from the castello di san vigillio. During my recent visit to Bergamo’s charming Città Alta, I had the pleasure of stopping by La Marianna at Largo Colle Aperto, 4. Seated on their spacious outdoor terrace, I indulged in their specialty affogato a delightful combination of rich espresso poured over their signature La Marianna’s original 1961 creation, stracciatella creamy gelato. Complementing this was a refreshing Aperol Spritz, perfectly balanced and served with a smile. The gelato was creamy and rich, with generous chocolate shavings that melted perfectly on the tongue. It was evident that high-quality ingredients were used, making it one of the best I’ve tasted. The ambiance was serene, with the sun casting a gentle glow and the world leisurely passing by. It’s no wonder La Marianna is renowned not only for inventing the iconic stracciatella gelato in 1961 but also for providing such memorable experiences. If you find yourself in Bergamo, I highly recommend taking a moment to relax at La Marianna. Whether you’re a gelato enthusiast or simply seeking a tranquil spot to unwind, this establishment offers both history and hospitality in equal measure.

Under the stewardship of Andrea Paleni and Gigi Pesenti, this charming eatery champions small-scale producers, many of whom are recognized by Slow Food Presidia.
We tried the longest tasting menu for the early lunch. We loved the pumpkin starter, mushroom risotto, ricotta mousse and orange wine underlined with amazing energy of lady waitress. (They really chose a right person) . We started eating on our own in the whole space but shortly it was a full house. Sometimes we had a feeling that the potential of some meals wasn’t really squeezed to 100% but the beautiful decor and vibes of this non really touristy place made our day unique. Next time we would go for dinner instead of lunch 😊

I had the Tradizione tasting menu and everything was delicious. The pasta was super tasty, the fish was really fresh, and each dish looked beautiful too. You can tell they really care about what they serve. The wine was also great and matched the food perfectly. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the place has a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Big bonus: it’s dog friendly! If you're in Bergamo, definitely worth a visit.

We really enjoined our meals here. The atmosphere was amazing and the service exquisite. I've had one of the best desserts - bread butter and milk. I also loved the mutton and chicken, but all the dishes were amazing.

The food is really good! Great ambiance and service. Best meal in Bergamo.

The location in Bergamo is average, but the interior is carefully chosen. We visited the restaurant as a family of six. The Italian cuisine is local, very tasteful and beautifully presented. We enjoyed the traditional menu (5-courses with the restaurant signature dish - pasta). The service is very friendly and helpful. The pice is little above average, but justified by the quality & creativity of the dishes we had. We will visit the place in Bergamo again.

After reading some good recommendations of this place, we went for lunch a Saturday afternoon. There were plenty of space when we arrived. We received a warm welcome from the waiter, who spoke good English language. We both had the beef tatar and the famous pasta dish from the region Casoncelli. Both dishes were served quickly and were both wonderful. All in all a very good experience and we can really recommend the place.

Excellent food at reasonable pricing! The Interieur is tasteful, service quite nice and after asking, helpful. I mistook natural wine for bio- Wine and , after asking was informed about my probable mistake. Thanks for that. Proposed wine was excellent. Nice place!

Taiocchino - Taverna Bergamasca is a charming restaurant that offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it perfect for group gatherings. The attentive staff, including Cinzia, provides exceptional service and patience, ensuring a memorable dining experience. The interior is adorned with cozy lighting and an array of plants that create a homely ambiance. The menu features exclusive specialties from Bergamo, complemented by regional wines.
It worths the visit. The food seems homemade and the menu has all the Bergamo-essential dishes. We finaly tasted proper polenta. I will visit again!

Come here to taste the real dishes from Bergamo! Only, do not expect plenty of vegan or vegetarian here :) then you will not be disappointed by the buttery stuffed pasta or meat with polenta.
Andrea F — Google review
We came here with a big group of friends (including a baby) and Cinzia, our waitress, was super patient with us. The place is gorgeous, the lights are warm creating a calm atmosphere and there are a selection of plants that gave me a strong sense of home. I ate the cheek, which was cooked at low temperature so it was super tender and came with the right amount of sauce to go with the accompanying polenta taragna, which contained the perfect amount of melted cheese inside. I also tried the fried cheese balls (bombette) which were super stringy and crunchy! Of course I had to try their signature cocktail (Tino) which is made with their own house amaro and tonic water. For desert I tried the stracciatella icecream which I came to find out it originates from that area. The crunch in the big chunks of chocolate, I can’t explain. You’ll have to try it for yourself. Am I going back? You bet I am.

This place is an absolute must if you wish to try out a typical Bergamascan cuisine! Great atmosphere, super friendly personnel and can't even decide over which dish is better than the other. Definitely try the tagliere with local salami/cheese and polenta taragna! Casoncelli is a must and we also had the slow cooked rabbit! Interesting way of serving the Mokamisu as well. In other words, you will be dreaming of this place after you leave!

Incredible restaurant far from the city centre of Bérgamo, in a quiet neighborhood where you can eat the typical gastronomy from Bérgamo. We came for the "cassoncelli della nonna", a kind of handmade raviolis with porchetta and sauge sauce which were very tasty . We also tried the pork with the cheesy polenta which was extremely tender. The service was very kind and the atmosphere is very quite, the space is just huge!

Nestled in a charming and tranquil corner of the Upper Town, Trattoria Del Teatro has been delighting diners for years with its commitment to high-quality cuisine. Renowned as one of the top spots in the city for traditional Casoncelli, this rustic eatery also serves up other local favorites like oven-baked rabbit and braised beef, both accompanied by comforting polenta or cod. The inviting atmosphere is reminiscent of days gone by, making it a perfect choice for families as well.
Delightful restaurant with homemade Bergamasco dishes and super friendly owner. Alfresco dining on an pen square with views of the hills in the background. Couple of starters and a main course shared between 2 people did the trick. House red wine very good. Only comment is avoid the "cheese dish" as for €11 EUR its a bit expensive, otherwise highly recommended.

The place is elegant and beautiful, but I expected more from the food for the price. My main course wasn’t very tasty, but the wine and tiramisu were excellent! I had the best tiramisu of my life here!

Great and tasty place! We asked a local for a recommendation for a good place to eat authentic food, and this was definitely it! The service was good, they don't really speak English but we understood each other just fine, the food was tasty and interesting, yet it felt very traditional and home made, and the desert and house wine were amazing!

This is the place that you can miss if you visit Bergamo alta, the ambiance, the food and the service are excellent. All typical Bergamaschi dishes… polenta taragna, coniglio, brasato, baccalà mantecato… One word to sum up Amazing

51€ for these small meals. That’s too overpriced!! We didn’t get full at all after eating. The food didn’t taste special either. The restaurant was always full and loud. It took us fast 30 minutes in order to pay, because no one really cared. I would never come back here again.

Amazing restaurant in a special location in Bergamo’s upper town. Great for traditional food and wine (house wine recommended). Service is up to expectations too and really good value for money. Will definitely come back.

Authentic, local, charming, rustic. This is what we experienced here. We decided to go “full local” with house wines by the pitcher and the simplest of local fare. All was tasty but not exceptional. The interior is from days gone by which makes it stand out, and they catered very well to children. There are / were 3 restaurants in the square, and this seems to the the grandfather of the lot. But it was good and is a worthy choice.

La Scagna is a wonderful traditional Italian restaurant in Bergamo that serves up some of the best food you will ever taste. The delicious dishes are made with high quality ingredients and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The service is excellent and the wine selection is superb. This is definitely a place you should visit if you are in Bergamo!
Had dinner at this lovely place. Warm welcome by the staff, who all spoke well English. Started with their meat and cheese platter, which was the best platter we ever had (and we have traveled a lot in Italy!). Everything on the platter was amazing. We then had the traditional casoncelli, which was slightly disappointing, but not bad at all. We have eaten Casoncelli at other restaurants in the Bergamo area which were better than here. The casoncelli’s had a slight taste of cinnamon, which we found a bit odd. We also had pappardelle which was very good. All large portions so we had no room for dessert :-) Can really recommend this place.

Very nice restaurant with great food! I had the pork knuckle with polenta, and it was absolutely delicious. The meat was so tender you could eat it without a knife. Highly recommended!

Took the casoncelli to go. It was 14€ and it was really good. They were pretty surprised with me picking the food up?? I guess they don’t do take aways?? They didn’t have a fork and knife to give me.. lol The girl that works there is nice. 😊

What an absolute feast for the mouth! I had tried to enjoy the food at la Scagna on my first day in Bergamo but the place was sold out for that night and the following lunch. Luckily I could visit it a few days later before leaving Bergamo. The casoncelli were superb. A wholesome taste that was worth the trip I did from a near town. The polenta taragna was delicious and incredibly rich. I love strong tastes but I found the wild boar to be maybe even too strong. The beer from a local brewery was a great match for the food. I wish I could have been able to eat also dessert but unfortunately it was not the right night for me. I found the personnel to be extremely kind. They also helped me in any way when on my way out I bumped into problems finding a taxi. Definitely a place where I want to come back when in the area!

We came for dinner and it was great experience. Really tasty food with accompanied with wine. Only disadvantage is poor selection of non alkoholic beverages, they had only sparkling one. And huge shoutout to staff, they speak really good English.

Fantastic food. I had the Ossobuco which was one of the best meals I have had in quite a while. The meat came apart using only a fork and the sauce was incredibly flavorful. Presentation is homestyle which suits the environment and the richness of the flavors well. You can tell they are using high quality ingredients. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, vibe is good. Service is very friendly and competent, busy but not overwhelmed. Some tourists were present but locals come here as well, which is another good sign. Prices are more than fair. I was lucky to be seated promptly at around 7.45 on a Wednesday night without a reservation, you should probably still reserve, especially on weekends. Grazie mille!!!

Lalimentari is a charming bar and restaurant in Bergamo that offers a delightful dining experience. The establishment prides itself on bringing together traditional local products with a modern touch, ensuring high-quality dishes prepared with passion and care. Visitors can expect a menu featuring vegetarian options as well as indications for gluten and lactose content.
We enjoyed all meals we selected, really great. Polenta was delicious. I had Beef Brasata and polenta with cheeses and it was superb
Lenka H — Google review
I recently dined at Lalimentari and had a fantastic experience. The standout dish was the pasta with porcini mushrooms—rich, earthy, and perfectly cooked. The flavors were well-balanced, with the mushrooms bringing a deep, savory note that paired wonderfully with the freshness of the pasta. I also had the aged dry ham, which was delicately sliced and full of robust flavor. It had just the right amount of saltiness and a melt-in-the-mouth texture that showed its quality. To complement the meal, I ordered a glass of wine recommended by the staff. It paired beautifully with both the pasta and the ham, enhancing the overall experience. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, with a rustic yet refined charm. Overall, Lalimentari delivered an authentic and satisfying Italian dining experience. I would definitely return and recommend it to anyone looking for quality food and a cozy atmosphere.
Ion S — Google review
I had dinner at Lalimentari in Bergamo and honestly, it blew me away. Everything I tried was spot-on and full of flavor. I started with the local cold cuts and cheese platter — all from Bergamo and the surrounding region. The meats were rich and well-cured, the cheeses were perfectly aged and balanced, and the crunchy crackers added that perfect texture contrast. You could really taste the quality and the care that went into choosing every single product. Then I had the ravioli-style pasta from Bergamo, covered in a pool of melted butter and sprinkled with Parmigiano. Simple? Yes. Boring? Absolutely not. It was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor — every bite felt like classic Italian comfort food done right. The staff, very nice and super polite! Big up The setting was relaxed and local, and everything tasted authentic without trying too hard. This is one of those places you hope to stumble upon when traveling — and I’m glad I did. Five stars, no question.

I went to this restaurant with my girlfriend and two other couples. My friends quite like the food but our dishes weren't of the quaility I'd expected. The Bergamo-styled rabbit was dry and had too many bones for my taste. Pasta was good but I'd tried better ones. Having a chance to be at the main square at the centre of the old town was really pleasant as we listened to local musicians. At the end of the night we had to wait for 30 minutes until we finally got the bill and paid as waiters were quite slow.

I believe this is the best restaurant in Bergamo. I stayed in the city for three days and came back here every single day because the food was delicious, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the prices were very reasonable. Everything was fresh, full of flavor, and served with great care. It truly felt like the heart of Bergamo’s hospitality.

Its a very nice location in Piazza Vecchia where you can take breakfast, i had one Caffe Aromatizzato Alla Nocciola which was so small.. not so tasty. The gem croissant was ok. Its nice that you can stay out and enjoy sun, view.
Marius E — Google review
There was no waiting for a table even though the restaurant is always full, the service is excellent, the waiters are very helpful, the prices are high for the amount you get. If you sit outside the restaurant, the atmosphere is great because the restaurant is located on the square itself, while the inside of the restaurant exudes history and creates an additional atmosphere and ambiance while tasting the dishes of that region.

Great service and great vegan options! We were happy to find a traditional Italian ristorante that offers a variety of vegan options. Good pizza and with options to have it gluten-free and with lactose free mozzarella. Not many pizza places have both options. Service was okay, had the impression that the waitress was going to say no to my wife when she asked to have her pizza cut for her. She eventually took my wife’s pizza back to the kitchen to have it sliced up but she gave the impression that she was reluctant to do it. Not sure why but it’s a simple request. Not sure I would go back to this restaurant.

This hotel is very close to the main piazza in Bergamo alta and has a restaurant for indoor dining as well as an outside terrace. My room had a small balcony, which I put to use enjoying a pre aperitif of spritz as the sun set. I dined in the hotel restaurant on the final night, enjoying a local pasta dish I had not encountered before. It was very tasty, too. The breakfast was good with a nice variety of fruits and savouries. All in all the hotel was excellent.

This hotel is in the center of Bergamo, it’s beautiful and the people in the front desk are extremely nice! It doesn’t have elevator, because it has two floors, but Nicola was super nice and he helped us carry the suitcases into our room. And Natalia what an amazing person she is! And the breakfast amazing!!

I review the restaurant not the hotel: This place is a hidden gem! The staff is superb there: friendly, smiling and courteous. We got a table for 6 on a busy Sunday afternoon. We were a bit in a rush so ordered only pizzas. We got pastrami with cheese as a starter. The food was served quite quickly despite many guests. Didn’t stay here, this review is for the restaurant. Very nice interior, they have a garden at the back for al fresco dining. A Cozy Stay in the Heart of Bergamo Hotel IL Sole offers a delightful and convenient base for exploring the vibrant central area of Bergamo. Its prime location means you're just a short stroll away from a fantastic array of shops and restaurants, making it incredibly easy to immerse yourself in the local atmosphere. The staff truly shine, providing a warm and helpful welcome that enhances the overall experience. We particularly enjoyed the very good breakfast, a lovely start to each day. While the hotel exudes a certain cozy charm, it's worth noting that there is no lift, so be prepared for a bit of stair climbing. Additionally, our room's window didn't open and offered no view, which was a minor drawback. However, the friendly service and excellent location make Hotel IL Sole a worthwhile option for those looking for a comfortable and well-situated stay in Bergamo.

We had this restaurant recommended by our hotel reception on our arrival at the Hotel il Sole in Bergamo alta citta. The service is great and the staff are welcoming. Ah, Mimi. It’s a charming spot nestled within the Città Alta, where the warmth of the exposed brick and the inviting glow of candlelight create a truly lovely atmosphere. They’ve clearly put a lot of thought into showcasing the best of Bergamasco cuisine, with dishes that highlight the region's rich culinary heritage. The *casoncelli* were a delightful example, plump and flavorful, and beautifully presented. Each plate feels like a carefully composed tribute to local ingredients. And the wine list? A genuine highlight, a curated selection of Lombardy’s finest, each bottle telling its own story. At Antica Osteria Del Vino Buono in Bergamo, the service was great, with staff that were very welcoming and friendly. We began with a shared plate of charcuterie and cheese, which offered a nice mix of flavors. This was followed by the ‘drunk’ risotto (daily specials) and ravioli; the risotto was fine, though it didn't stand out in flavor. The ravioli, filled with meat and topped with sage, bacon, and melted butter, was exceptionally tasty. The cozy atmosphere of the restaurant further enhanced our enjoyable dining experience.

I’m still thinking about the pasta weeks later, one of the most flavourful dishes I’ve had in a while. Service was lovely, well priced and good atmosphere inside.

The food is pretty bad for the restaurant. They brought what they claim to be a “slowly cooked pork” within 10 minutes, which means it’s premade. Feels like I ate in a school canteen a very mediocre dish. The tomatoes they brought were not quite fresh either. The interior and service is good, but I’m disappointed with a food a lot, waste of money.

This unique dish is a staple of Bergamo cuisine and is often served with melted butter and sage. The trattoria offers exclusive tastings where visitors can indulge in the delicious Casoncelli as well as other typical dishes such as polenta.
Nice place with great staff. They all speak English and very helpful by nature. The fixed lunch menu is great, you get two plates and wine and coffee for 13€. The place is a bit out of city but totally worth it to taste some Bergamo food :)

Loved the place.. Cozy and well furnished.. Accessible entrance for wheelchair and kids friendly seats. Food was great I don't remember the name of what I ordered but was a very delicious meat.. The staff was friendly and was trying the best to support all the people inside. I loved the place

I adore Italian cuisine and try always to find small places to eat traditional meal. So was with this place. I odered traditional polenta with mushrooms and rabbit - taste it - it is very delicious. I also odered casoncelli - as far as the place has its name it should be super. But I was not pleased with them. They were not so cool as I expected - I used to eat at other places where they were yellow and looked like candy. Here I suppose the dough was without eggs ( they looked a little bit dark =(. But I will come again some time and try them one more time.

This restaurant is a true gem in Bergamo. Staff is very polite and friendly. Food is absolutely outstanding. Especially the Casoncelli alla Bergamasca is amazing!

5 stars for the staff. The food was pretty rich but good, parking available over the road. A little too long waiting at lunch time, but the staff were kind and apologetic.
Stacy S — Google review
The best casoncelli I have ever eaten in my life. Tomato sauce pasta dish is really huge, other dishes are normal in size.
Victoria S — Google review
Great traditional dishes! The polenta is very tasty, the casoncelli delicious and the tiramisu is wonderful. Very friendly atmosphere.

Italian restaurant
Trattoria Caironi, located in a hidden side street in Lower Bergamo, is a must-visit for food enthusiasts. This authentic Italian restaurant has been delighting both locals and tourists since 1928. Although it may not be easy to find, the search is well worth it for the delicious dishes on offer. The menu features traditional favorites such as stracotti d'asino, punte ripiene, casoncelli, and polenta taragna.
A lovely place - it was recommended by the owner of the apartment where we stayed during our 4-day stay in Bergamo. And since this visit I regularly eat polenta for dinner =)

Food was delicious. Amazing rabbit with polenta and veal with tuna mayonnaise. Nice atmosphere and good prices.

The food was excellent; we understood that Italian food is not only about pizza or pasta. The service was fast. Fantastic desserts- especially the cheesecake!

Loved this place. Food is delicious and the service is so fast and nice. It was a pleasure

Small typical Bergamo trattoria. A family-run establishment with simple Mise en place and genuine service. Plentiful and good quality dishes. We chose Casi Celli (a quality of elongated ravioli with meat filling) with melted butter as a first course. As a second course a typical meat stew with polenta ... a "must" in Bergamo. Tasty! To water the whole house red wine, simple, light. The only drawback: the place is among the noisiest I've ever visited ... but with the food it was forgiven.

Really authentic Italian restaurant on a side street we would never found without recomendation. Fantastic food and every affordable prices! Nice staff who helped me to translate menu in English. Great find! If I ever come back to Bergamo! I will come back 100%.

Casoncelli Nonna Alda is a delightful gem that showcases the traditional Bergamasca filled pasta, known for its savory blend of meat, breadcrumbs, cheese, and herbs. This charming eatery offers a cozy atmosphere reminiscent of a grandmother's kitchen where you can enjoy your meal on-site or grab it to go. With various filling options and sauces available in three different sizes, Casoncelli Nonna Alda caters to all tastes.
Wow, I'm sorry I didn’t try them earlier. They're so tasty and ready in 3 minutes. Two times per day, you can see how they are made live. I can't wait to have them again.
Kris T — Google review
Awesome! Delicious pasta, local specialty, in a small restaurant. You can take to go, or seat in, in the small Nonna kitchen that has been reproduced. We took the small portion, 5€. There are several options for the filling and the sauce, and three different sizes. It's delicious, it's fast, it's cheap and the two people, both the cook and the reception, are super nice. I understand the 5 star reviews!

Delicious casoncelli. I should have taken the biggest size, it was so good I wanted more! The restaurant is quite small so I would recommend to take away back to your place or to a nice spot in the city.

Amazing! The pasta is divine and the flavors are so perfect together, the atmosphere is unique with slow and jazz like music playing at all times. The service was quick and the staff are extremely warm. They even noticed my mom was feeling a little down and gave her a complimentary "nonnamisu" to cheer her up! Lovely!

Holiday apartment
Dimora Upper City Apartments are located in the charming Upper City of Bergamo, offering a cozy and welcoming stay close to the historic center and the cable car. The property provides all the comforts needed for a pleasant stay, with a thoughtful and tasteful interior design. Guests have praised the owner, Barbara, for her courtesy and availability, making their experience even more enjoyable. However, some guests noted that improvements could be made to enhance privacy and create a more homely atmosphere in the apartments.
I travel a lot to Italy. I know the area around Bergamo/Milan well. I can truthfully say, however, that I have never found such a charming, good value accommodation. Dimora is brand new, put together with a design flair and quality features and fittings. Yet behind the high end styling there is an ancient palazzo - as is visible from the 16th century frescoes that peep through the new plaster in points. the location is superb - round the corner from the main street in Bergamo's charmingissimo upper town. breakfast is on offer at a special deal in the cafe where Stracciatella ice cream was invented, and the owner, Barbara, is the most welcoming, understanding and charming of hosts. It's hard to find the word to rate this appartment. Something like exceptional might do?

(Translated by Google) we stayed in this property for two days, returning from a trip to the Baltic capitals. The apartment is really very welcoming, it is very close to the historic center and the cable car. The apartment is certainly equipped with every comfort but what made the stay even more pleasant was the courtesy and availability of Barbara, the owner of the apartment. Upon our arrival he greeted us with a very sweet smile and showed us a small welcome gift in the apartment. Furthermore, during our stay he provided us with a series of suggestions to better enjoy the beauty of the city. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS STRUCTURE.

(Translated by Google) Nice place. Everything is thought out and tasteful, comfortable. The owner is a very nice and responsive person! Very helpful! I didn't like that the front door was made of glass. At night, when someone walks by, the light outside comes on and disturbs the room. There could have been curtains at the window for a more homely feel. (Original) Jauka, vieta. Viss pārdomāts un gaumīgs, ērts. Saimniece ļoti jauks un atsaucīgs cilvēks! Ļoti izpalīdzīga!
