Fish & chips restaurant
Harbour Lights Fish & Chips is a popular restaurant in Falmouth, known for serving classic fish and chips along with other seafood, burgers, pies, and sausages. Their menu features fresh locally landed fish and chips made from Cornish potatoes. The restaurant offers indoor seating with views over the bustling harbour as well as takeaway options to enjoy by Custom House Quay or at nearby benches overlooking the water.
Amazing fish & chips!! The sustainability practises of this place including the MSC for sustainable fishing across their menu, drew me in above all other restaurants in the town. Would 100% recommend, loved every bite! Line caught haddock, regular chips, mushy peas and curry sauce, incredible!!

Decent, But Nothing Special Whenever I visit a seaside town, my first stop is always fish and chips. It’s usually a generous portion at a reasonable price, and this time was no different. After researching online, this spot seemed to be one of the most well-known, so I decided to give it a try. The atmosphere and location are nice, and the staff are friendly. As you can see in the photo, the lemon was almost bigger than the fish! The portion was filling, with chips and mushy peas on the side. However, the mushy peas tasted like they had just been reheated from a pre-made batch, and overall, the meal wasn’t anything extraordinary. The fish was decent, the chips were standard—nothing that made them stand out. One downside was that my coffee arrived before the food, so I had to eat quickly before it got cold, which took away from the enjoyment. I didn’t want to send it back and waste it, but it wasn’t an ideal experience. If you’re in the area, it might be worth trying something else on the menu, but for me, it was just an average fish and chips experience.

Did not Disappoint, Easily The Best Fish & Chips I've ever had. We had The Famous 5, line caught Haddock, Chips Mushy, Peas Bread and unlimited Tea £21. The batter was light and crispy almost Tempora like. Come here and you won't be disappointed

Fab freshly cooked fish and chips in a lovely setting on Custom House Quay. Perfect with a cold cider from The Front pub under the fish and chip shop where you can sit outside to eat your takeout. Would recommend.

No surprises, it’s tasty fish & chips. Nice to be able to dine in and eat them fresh from the fryer.

Classic fish and chips, can’t go wrong 🐟 A couple of Vegan options available which is nice to see as often limited. Although at the end of the day it is just fish and chips, nothing special about them.

Porthminster Beach Cafe is not your average beach-side cafe; it's a serious restaurant with a laid-back beach house vibe. The menu, curated by Australian chef Michael Smith, features Mediterranean flavors and fresh seafood, along with posh fish and chips. The restaurant offers friendly service, fresh decor, and stunning views over Porthminster Beach.
Great lunch! It ain't cheap but lunch at the Porthminater was the food highlight of our trip to St Ives. Our dog Herbie was offered a bowl of water, very important to us as dog owners, and the service continued to impress. Polite and prompt, it is not surprise that you can find the Pothminster in the Michelin guide, the service was excellent throughout our lunch. The food was excellent, my pork cheek and my wife's monk fish curry are worthy of particular mention, and was complemented by stunning views across Porthminster beach. I can highly recommend, if you have the funds!
Terence A — Google review
Food is excellent, sea bass was freshly cooked and pork rib grilled to an excellent state. The beach view from balcony was fantastic and we took quite a lot photos. The service is first class. Just the price was a little bit pricy. Better to leave some time for parking the car at station car park if you come over by car.

Beautiful restaurant with a view! Very lucky to hav a sea view seat, seafood is fresh and taste great! Love the crabmeat salad, taste refreshing, I enjoy the mussels a lot, perfectly cooked and the white wine sauce is on spot! Our waiter is very nice to make sure we have been looking after! Thank you !

Every dish at Porthminster Beach Cafe (Restaurant) was superb. Squid, pork cheek, lobster and cod, fresh and faultlessly cooked and presented with wonderful friendly professional service (thankyou Shaun, you were wonderful). Brilliant restaurant with amazing views. Highly recommended. Thankyou.

Fantastic evening meal with family for a special occasion Been before so know how good it is, the food is superb, good fresh fish Service was really attentive and relaxed, and even though we had 2 young children with us there was no rush to get us out

Fabulous food! Catch of the day is super fresh, also LOVE the squid and seafood curry. Service is also nice, view is brilliant.

We booked a table for dinner at Porthminster Beach Café and were seated by the wall. I asked if we could move to an empty window table, but was told it had been booked and the guests would be arriving shortly. However, by the time we left, the table was still empty. It felt like they could have let us sit there with the understanding that we’d need to vacate by a certain time. The food was fine, but nothing particularly special. Overall, a bit disappointing given the reputation, price and location.

Porthminster Beach Café in St Ives delivers a superb dining experience in a stunning beachfront setting. A 10/10 experience, without hesitation. We visited for my wife’s birthday and were impressed by the warm, attentive service, complete with a birthday card on the table and a candle in her dessert. The highlight was the catch of the day. Red Gurnard, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. It was, without question, the best piece of fish I’ve ever had so far. While prices are premium, the quality of the food, thoughtful service, and breathtaking views make it well worth it.

Fish and chips takeaway
Fast food restaurant
Flounders is a popular spot in Newquay, known for its quick-serve fish 'n' chips with various sauces. This pint-sized eatery offers outside seating and has been serving locals and visitors for over a decade. The crispy yet fluffy chips, light golden batter, perfectly cooked fish, and spicy curry sauce have made Flounders a go-to place for traditional fish and chips. Despite being super busy, the staff is friendly and efficient.
One of the best Fish & Chips I've ever had ! The place didn't harm it's reputation with an amazing batter and a hearty cod with chips and tasty curry sauce . Sadly it was a take away they forgot to put any cutlery. However , the lady serving afforded a smile despite being a long day for her . Overall - definitely recommended for its size and portion .
Abhi D — Google review
First time visiting Newquay fistal beach and fancied some fish and chips, had a quick look at the local area to see what is recommended and settled on Flounders. Arrived to a queue back to the door, a good sign. Didn't take too long before I got to order and looking at the options and prices it's comparable to other fish and chip shops I've been to. Placed an order for regular cod fish, jumbo sausages, large chips and curry sauce. Classic combination. Service with a smile and the wait for the food wasn't long especially for a Saturday night, looks to be a decent efficient service, as all the popular items are sitting under the warn lamp but as it's busy it doesn't sit there for long. Took the food away back to a suitable place to eat and the food was still hot. The batter on the fish is crisp with a satisfying crunch and not too greasy. The cod is a decent size and flaky. Chips were pretty standard, nothing special but nevertheless good enough and a generous portion. Jumbo sausages tasted fine and meaty, I don't think I had many grisle in mine. Curry sauce had a choice of mild or spicy, as the kids were sharing we had the mild, it was a good thickness and tasted just right for little palates. Really was a good fish and chips would recommend for those visiting the area.

Popped in yesterday for a quick meal and not for the first time was not disappointed. Everyone working there smiling happy and polite. What a change from most places! Lady who served me sorted my blue light discount, helped me find the appropriate meal size for my child and was generally just lovely. If everyone had people skills like that the world would be a better place. Don't know your name but thanks for making my day! Food was brilliant! Been here before so no surprise. Just can't recommend highly enough.
J C — Google review
Our favourite fish and chip shop we’ve ever been to. Always visit when in town. This time the fish was excellent as always and the scampi too. The Chips were very average bordering on poor, we’ve always rated these as better than average Also the online ordering was not working on the two days we tried it Hope it’s ap one off with reduced quality but if not we won’t return Shame
Travelling T — Google review
Lovely service and delicious fish and chips. Seriously good value for money for the quality of the food 🙌 Plus speedy cooking, fish freshly cooked and put up to wrap, not like some places where they have loads precooked and waiting in the hot cupboard. Got the recommendation from a friend who has been taking his daughter here since she was little, I can see why now. Will definitely be back. Thanks 🥰
Rob C — Google review
Flounders is still the best fish & chips in Newquay. We had 2 amazing cod fillets in crispy batter cooked in beef dripping. Puts Rick Stein’s Fistral to shame! Sarah even served our take away in cardboard trays as we were dining outside. Brilliant service with a well deserved 5 stars!
Graham W — Google review
Friendly and efficient. Easy to park close by (in the evening). Good sized portions - massive pieces of haddock - and tasted delicious. Would definitely recommend and go back again.
Andy P — Google review
Good sized portions, perfectly cooked chips. Fish was lovely and flaky. Batter slightly thicker than I like but still really good. Fish not cheap but it seems to be getting dearer across the country at the moment - definitely worth the cost though! 👍

Stein's Fish & Chips, located in the heart of Padstow, is a must-visit for seafood lovers. Renowned chef Rick Stein has brought his culinary expertise to this humble dish, ensuring that the fish is fried in beef dripping and accompanied by freshly-cut chips. The menu features a variety of fresh fish and shellfish, including cod, haddock, hake, bream, and lemon sole sourced from local waters.
The haddock and chips were delicious – pure white fish and not greasy at all. The chips were also very nice. I tried my friend’s cod, which was good too. The friendly staff and clean, modern decor made for a pleasant dining experience.
Dean L — Google review
We enjoyed our visit to Stein’s Fish & Chips, the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable. My husband had the Catch of the day and chips which ended up being a cod-like fish - it was very nice and fresh. I had the special - soft shell crab chilli burger and it was very tasty, but a bit scary to look at! (I expected a patty not a whole crab!). The reason for 4/5 stars was it felt more like very good pub fish and chips and not the sea-side slightly greasy fish and chips I was hoping for, but might be personal preference. The unlimited chips was great although my husband and I shared his chips and didn’t want seconds.
Elysia S — Google review
Disappointing ! So, this was a treat from my wife and son for my birthday. I fish a lot, both here and abroad, and I cook my catch regularly, so I know what I'm talking about. I'm a big fan of Rick's cookery programmes and books, and cook his recipes at home. So things were set for an enjoyable experience. I was quite underwhelmed ! We had the sampler menu for 2 people. The fish were supposedly hake, lemon sole, pouting and whiting. The only one with any sort of flavour was what they identified as whiting (I think they may have been muddled up as it tasted more like sole). The 3 other fish were very very bland, with any flavour they did have being totally masked by the huge amount of batter. To make matters worse, the batter held onto the oil / beef dripping so much that everything was incredibly greasy. There was barely any fish when compared to the amount of batter. Price - if it had been the best fish and chips of my life I could accept the high price tag . . . . . . but it wasn't. I've had better fresh fish with huge flavour and larger portions at half the price back home in Kent. For somewhere that has good local ingredients from a company that is supposedly renowned for fish cookery, it was very poor. It needs the boss (Rick) to drop in unannounced and do some quality control. And ask himself if he's happy putting his name to the product. I know I wouldn't be ! Save your money, walk round to the harbour and get fish and chips there. Twice the quality and quantity at half the price.

We enjoyed our visit to Stein's fish and chip restaurant in Padstow this evening. We were celebrating my wife's birthday. We chose the 4 fish sharing platter and it was excellent. The fish was very nicely cooked, and the dish was a good size for two people. We were both warm after quite a lot of walking throughout the day so we both chose a coke zero with ice and lemon to drink with our meal. We've eaten here a few times in the past and this was probably our favourite visit. The restaurant itself was not too busy with most tables with either 2s or 3s. Our waitress was welcoming and polite and looked after us throughout our meal. Well done all.
Les P — Google review
We started our week in Padstow with a trip to Rick Stein’s Fish & Chips. It did not disappoint! We really enjoyed the cod and chips, and had a side of scampi with halloumi. It will always be on our list when in Padstow. Excellent food every time!
Richard W — Google review
Just had wonderful Fish and Chips at Stein’s. We had small Cod and Chips and the Forgotten Fish and Chips, which was Pouting…both were excellent. The beef dripping (which is all too rare nowadays) gives the dish lovely flavour and there are great wines too!
Martin C — Google review
Battered cod and chips, fried in beef dripping, matched with tangy tartare sauce, mushy peas, salt and malt vinegar made for one of the best meals of my life. Fabulous service and wonderful ambience make Rick’s well worth a visit when in Cornwall.

Harbour Fish & Chips is a casual seaside eatery offering an array of seafood dishes, including the classic fish and chips, as well as beverages like beer and coffee. Situated just a short distance from the town's charming cobbled streets and within walking distance of several beautiful beaches, it provides an idyllic setting for enjoying a meal. The restaurant prides itself on sourcing its fish from local suppliers and using potatoes from nearby farms to ensure high-quality ingredients.
Just realised I went in a little to early before they open. I’m visiting St Ives for a few days and was contemplating if I should get fish and chips since I can pretty much get it anywhere anyway, but I was super hungry and I thought maybe I’ll give it a shot. The restaurant got quite a great selection of fish I can choose from and I decided to go for Battered Sea Bass with a portion of chips and Tartare sauce. Total came out about £16 which is not too bad, pretty much the same as what I paid for in London or maybe cheaper here. After coming across a few bad reviews, I didn’t care much as I’m super hungry, walk all the way to sit in Porthmeor beach since there are not much sea gulls and I can sit on the beach. The food is very nice portion, the chips is great but the fish. Absolutely gorgeous! It is crispy, not oily at all. It got the perfect crunch and batter on it which is not too thick and paired with the tartare sauce is phenomenon! The forgot the cutlery but it was fine I can just pick the fish up and bite it and they threw in a slice of lemon which is super great I would give this place a go if you’re visiting St Ives and looking for some good fish and chips!
Inthuon H — Google review
Had a fantastic experience at Harbour Fish & Chips in St Ives! The location right on the harbour is perfect, and the food was absolutely delicious. You can really taste the freshness of the locally sourced fish and chips—they’re easily the best in town. Loved that everything is prepared on-site, and the chips were perfectly cooked. Great service and staff who make you feel very welcome. A lovely spot to eat in or grab a takeaway. Highly recommend!
CR G — Google review
A must visit for fish and chips and oysters. The mussels were good too! The sauce was not salty and was tick and full of flavour. Very generous portions. Quick service and friendly staff We didn't have to wait long and as a group of 9 we were very lucky to sit down together and have some great food and in good time too. No long wait and everyone's order came out pretty much at the same time and all hot and tasty The oysters came with lemon and Tabasco. I would have like the red onion vinaigrette but they were good even with just the lemon. Tables could do with more napkins and or wiping cloth for the finger wash bowls but overall, we loved this restaurant Everyone left full and happy.
Julie — Google review
Tasty food with a great view and nice decor. Fresh, hot meals and a good menu. Prices were fair (half a cider cheaper than soft drinks!). Service wasn’t great and a service charge was added without clear notice, hence 3 stars.
Jeff T — Google review
On a day out in St Ives this place completed my day with one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. They were very busy on Saturday and we had to wait outside to be seated which didn’t take very long. Staff were super nice and friendly and looked after us. Highly recommend if you are around its worth the wait.

Delicious fish and chips. If I was honest, I wasn't expecting much from this fish and chip shop, which sits on the seafront of a busy resort. However, from the moment we were greeted by the friendly staff to the arrival of our delicious fish and chips, I was so glad we'd chosen to visit. The fish was cooked to a turn, the batter deliciously crunchy, and the chips and peas a perfect accompaniment. Highly recommended!
Wynn G — Google review
One of the best fish and chips I have had in a long time. The staff were friendly, quick service to say how busy they were for a Saturday night and great atmosphere
Laura N — Google review
Had the cod and chips with a pint of their lager. Fish and chips were decent but fairly average, especially compared to other spots around Cornwall and beyond. The lager was smooth and really enjoyable though. Prices were what you’d expect for St Ives so not cheap, but not surprising either. All in all, fine for a quick bite by the sea.

The Beach Restaurant is a long-standing favorite owned by a local family since 1957. It's located in the heart of the Wharf, offering stunning views across the bay. The restaurant features an extensive menu with locally sourced seafood, poultry, meat, and game. Additionally, it boasts a traditional wet fish counter with a variety of locally landed specialty fish and seafood.
Had the best experience dining in here. Seafood is amazing, staffs are nice and friendly. A big shout out to a lady who served us lunch 12-2pm on 28 Jul 2025, she let us in with our dog which is rare in most restaurants. She also gave us the best service, brilliant food choice advice. Thank you very much and we will definitely come back

Great food at a good price considering the area and placement of the restaurant. We really enjoyed our food and thought it was good bang for the buck. I thought the fish was lovely, decent size and the chips were good. Steak was also really good given a £12.99 steak and chips deal. Staff were friendly and attentive. Had a lovely sea view but had a street performer singing through the windows 😂

Tasty chowder, great creamy sauce for chip dipping. Nice seats. It was very busy when we visited, the place felt slightly understaffed as the few staff that worked there were rushed off their feet. However, saying that, the staff kept on checking up on us and always seemed friendly. Drinks and food came reasonably quickly. Wasn’t overly pricey. Nice place with good views.
R. G — Google review
I wanted quality fish and chips by the sea and unfortunately that’s not what I got. The chips seem to be fried oven chips rather than fresh potato and I was given haddock when I ordered cod. The fish itself was nice but wasn’t the cod I was expecting. Just serving proper chips would improve things massively.

Seeing some mixed reviews my expectations about the food were pretty average, but to my pleasant surprise the food, and the service far exceeded them. The staff was very friendly, welcoming and helpful in giving recommendations. Since this was lunch time, I ordered their tomato soup, monkfish and Panna Cotta for dessert. Every dish was very nicely presented, well cooked, and tasted great. Their chef definitely has talent. I can absolutely recommend this place based on my experience.

Fresh and tasty food with the option of dine in and take out. We visited during the off season and the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming. Not a very good experience. Drink came room temperature and the chips were very soggy and pale. The way our food was put in the bag wasn’t good either. Most boxes on its side and curry sauce was leaking. Shame as this used to be one of my favourite chip shops in town.
Yvette L — Google review
Popped in as walking by and not expecting the amazing food and service we received. Very good price too for the middle of St Ives. Definitely recommend the seafood sharing platter which is more than enough for 2 adults and was incredible! Thank you.

Popped in for take away, the reateraunt is up stairs. I was served by a young girl behind the counter who clearly didn't want to serve me or be at work, the guy with shades on seemed a bit more attentive Food: didn't think much of it at all, and the seven other people that were with me wouldn't visit again or rate the food. The owner needs to take a look at his team running the show.
Ben — Google review
Chips £3.35 and pea fritter £2.75 were OK. I was a bit disappointed with the very mushy peas as it was puréed like baby food. Staff seemed bored, leaning on the counter yawning away looking down the steps like she didn’t want to be there.

This establishment seems tiny, but they actually have a comfortable and stylish upstairs seating area. Our waitresses were lovely, friendly and very attentive. Our food came quickly despite the place being very busy with both takeaways and the restaurant orders! It was piping hot, and the price was reasonable for what we got.

Peckish Fish and Chips is a must-visit spot for anyone craving delicious takeaway in the area. This charming eatery offers an impressive selection of chip tapas, including everything from cod bits to scampi, chicken bites, and even pineapple fritters. The chips are perfectly fluffy and crispy, making them a delightful treat. Many visitors rave about the generous portions and friendly staff who make every visit enjoyable.
I’m not from the area (but now wish I was) .. so no bias on this review , but quite honestly the best chip takeaway shop I’ve been to 100% . We went for chip tapas :- - Cod bits - Scampi - Chicken Bites - Chips - Cheesy Chips - Jumbo Sausage - Fish Cake - Pineapple Fritter - Mushy Peas - Curry Sauce And it was all fantastic. Classic fluffy and crispy chips (not many small ends) nice big chunks The chicken bits are unreal 👌🏼 The curry sauce over the cheesy chips is something quite special. Scampi good size. Nice and juicy Fast service booked online. Nice and hot. Friendly staff. Really really fantastic 👏🏼 👏🏼👏🏼

Absolutely delicious fish & chips ! Wish we had found this the beginning of our holiday not the end. Peak times there is a bit of a wait for your order but we'll worth it. The fish is really fresh and so thick it was beautiful. My daughter had the jumbo sausage meal she said that was lovely too. Definitely highly recommend!

Somebody recommended Peckish and strongly advised we order online then collect, rather than just turn up. When we got there, there was already a large crowd of customers outside. I'll be honest, we still had to wait later than our allocated collection slot, but... the food was absolutely delicious. Best fish and chips I've had since I can't even remember. The portion sizes were decent too. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.

The best fish and chips I have ever had. Homemade curry sauce was amazing. Freshly cooked white fish, crispy chips. Well worth diverting to Camelford for! Outstanding!!

Headed to Tintagel looking for fish and chips. We discovered that there are no disabled parking spaces and decided we would rather spend our money in a town which respected the needs of disabled people. We decided to try this takeaway. Disabled parking just across the road and benches nearby to sit and enjoy the food. The fish and chips were delicious . Freshly cooked food, friendly staff and convenient location for tourists. Highly recommend 👌

Greg & Lou's, a beloved eatery in Redruth, has been delighting patrons with their delectable fish and chips since 2002. This family-owned establishment is known for its fresh and crispy fish paired with perfectly golden chips. The cozy ambiance and warm hospitality create a welcoming dining experience for visitors. Customers rave about the generous portions of well-cooked fish and deliciously crisp batter, along with the best chips they've had in Cornwall.
As this was the first time we had eaten in Greg & Lou's, we were not disappointed. We both chose Haddock & Chips, along with one homemade tartare sauce and a curry sauce. The meals arrived and my pictures don't really do them justice, they were both VERY good sized portions, with beautifully cooked fish with delicious crisp batter. Chips were the best we have had in a long time and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Service was very friendly and attentive with nothing being too much trouble. The restaurant area was very clean and bright with a lovely atmosphere, we both look forward to returning soon!

Wow. Was recommended this chippy by a warden on our campsite. Superb. Friendly service. Outstanding food. Totally recommended. We had the goldilocks portions of cod; mini, standard and large. All were delicious, and mahoosive. The chips were amazing. Sauces equally as nice. Thanks for a great meal.

Great fish and chips. Hot, great value, big portion (even though I ordered a small). The fries were crispy. They seemed to be very lightly battered. One of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had.

Had the haddock and chips at Greg & Lou’s in Redruth and it was fantastic! The chips were brilliant — crispy with an extra batter coating that made them really stand out. The haddock was chunky, flaky, and full of flavour, wrapped in a light, crisp batter. The staff were polite and friendly, and the whole experience was spot on. Can’t wait to return!

🌟 Review Title: “The Codfather’s Kingdom, Where Lola Reigns Supreme” 🌟 If Tolkien had written about fish and chips, Greg & Lou’s in Redruth would be the Shire’s finest chippy—and Lola its glowing guardian. We arrived weary travellers, drawn by whispers of golden batter and chips kissed by angels. The moment we crossed the threshold of 9a Higher Fore Street, time slowed. The scent of sizzling haddock curled through the air like a siren’s song. And then—Lola appeared. She didn’t walk. She glided. With a smile that could thaw a Cornish winter and a voice smoother than tartare sauce on a moonlit plaice, Lola welcomed us like long-lost royalty. Her kindness wasn’t just warm—it was geothermal. She knew our order before we spoke. She anticipated our need for extra napkins like a clairvoyant of condiments. The cod? Titanic. Crisped to perfection, as if Poseidon himself had battered it with divine flour. The chips? Each one a golden wand of joy, crunchy on the outside, fluffy as a cloud inside. Mushy peas? Elven green. Curry sauce? Brewed in Merlin’s cauldron. As we dined in the cozy back room—lit by the soft glow of chip-shop enchantment—we swore we saw a unicorn pass by the window. Lola winked. “He’s a regular,” she said. We left not just full, but transformed. Greg & Lou’s isn’t a restaurant. It’s a portal. And Lola? She’s the high priestess of hospitality. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (and a bonus star for Lola’s radiant soul)

A top rated fish n chips shop, whether you're taking away or dining in their restaurant, which is suitable for all sizes of party provided they are booked in advance. Table booking advisable, even for couples, to avoid disappointment but walk-ins are, of course, welcomed if space is available. Their lightly battered chips are exceptionally tasty as are all their cooked products which often include locally caught 'specials', fried chicken options are also available along with traditional ham, egg and chips. All served by friendly staff eager to please. Soft drinks are on offer or you're welcome to bring your own alcoholic drinks to the restaurant.

The best chips I have ever tasted! Slightly crunchy on outside and soft and fluffy on inside. The fish had a light crispy batter. Fast and efficient service even when the queue was out the door.

The Harbour Chippy is a popular spot located near Newquay's bustling harbour, offering fresh and sustainably sourced fish along with perfectly cooked chips. The historic landmark of Newquay Harbour provides a picturesque setting to enjoy the generous portions of juicy cod and non-greasy chips from the chippy. Whether you choose to dine in or take your meal to-go, you can savor your food while watching the local fishing boats unloading their catch or witnessing the sunset over the sea.
The best gluten free fish and chips I’ve had. Staff were friendly and I was served very quickly. The fish and chips were cooked perfectly and full of flavour. I went back twice whilst on holiday as nothing compares to this place.

Decided to pop down and treat ourselves to a takeaway with some spare cash we’d saved up, only to find out they won’t take cash and its card only, and no one is taking orders it’s only on their touch screen. Frustrating but nothing we can do, reluctantly pay with card as we’d been waiting in a long queue for quite some time, get home and what a disappointment, chips felt undercooked and battered sausage has barely any batter on it and just pooled oil in your mouth when you take a bite! Not to mention the burger was clearly overcooked.. This used to be our regular chippy we’d treat ourselves to ever couple months, but safe to say we won’t be going back. What a disappointment.

Very flavourful and of course, very fresh ingredients. Salt/vinegar was just right. Priced very reasonably as well, wait time was about 4 minutes we watched them make it in front of us so very good also. They were very hot and stayed hot for quite awhile after, we eat these on the way back from Newquay in the car. Best fish, chips and curry sauce of my life, be warned, these have actually turned me off to chips from other places they were that good. I wish the 2 chaps running the place the very best with their shop. I would highly recommend if you’re nearby!

We went to Newquay for a weekend and found this chip shop that cooks vegetarian food for my partner. The food was lovely best chippy we've been to for a long time. The wait was only about 5 minutes and the fish was absolutely delicious, so light and fluffy and the batter was nice and crispy not greasy and just so nice. The staff were friendly and polite.

We were looking for a chippy that catered for Coeliacs/gluten free diet and came across this place. Popped in on a Tuesday afternoon in September. Not too busy and the guy serving was really friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered 2 fish cakes, a chicken pie and gluten free jumbo plain sausage and chips and everything was hot and very tasty. Would recommend to anyone looking for a gluten free chippy as you don't need to pre book this like some places and it's available all the time.

Was extremely busy 7.30pm on a Monday in early July and they were due to close at 7.45. Food was lovely - haddock and chips as they had sold all the cod - which the lady advised everybody queuing about. Lady serving and chap putting together the order were both friendly, informative, and speedy. Also, a board had been put at the entrance (after 7.45) - saying they were closed - but an older customer, in a mobility scooter pulled up, whilst we were waiting for our food and went to go in and saw the sign and the lady noticed him and came out and said they were officially closed but what did he want. He just wanted chips and she asked the cook if there were enough - with the customers waiting for their orders -and he said yes there was. I was very impressed with the food and service and would highly recommend

Kellaway's Fish and Chips is a must-visit spot for those enjoying a seaside holiday in Cornwall. Tried fish and chips here for the first time tonight. Absolutely delicious. Hot and served in a box. I had small cod and small chips. Just the right amount. My husband had medium cod and chips and it was plenty.Lots of friendly staff and very clean premises. Thank you very much. Would highly recommend.

Was Ok. Walked in and ordered. Took about 10 minutes or so for food. We both had small cod & chips. Cod was small as per the order, the chips were crispier than normal for beef dripping chip's so guess double/triple fried. Served in cardboard box with wooden forks. Bin's outside for those eating there (in vehicle). dont know price as did not pay myself. I'd eat there again, but would not go out of my way to visit. Compared to my local (Francines Newquay), i'd say same fish, slightly better chips, possibly slightly smaller portion size, but still more than enough (i could not finish the medium chips) Only negative was plenty of girls working there, but no smiles evident.

Easily the best fish and chips in Truro, if not Cornwall. It's all absolutely delicious, and the portion sizes are very generous. There's a good variety in the menu. The only problems are that there's nowhere nearby to sit and eat; it's very much takeaway only. There can also be significant delays of up to half an hour while waiting to be served.

Nestled within the vibrant Fistral Beach Complex, Rick Stein Fistral is a delightful eatery that perfectly captures the essence of seaside dining. This relaxed restaurant specializes in Rick's renowned fish and chips, featuring an array of fresh catches like cod and haddock, complemented by his signature homemade sauces. But that's not all; the menu also showcases a tantalizing selection of dishes inspired by global flavors, including Goan chicken curry and pad Thai noodles.
We had a lovely welcome when we arrived. The service from everyone was fantastic, a helpful and friendly bunch. The food was delicious. There was no fault with the main meals or the desserts. A trip to Rip off Ricks……? First of all, Jason needs to be recognised! The guy needs a bonus or to be promoted or something! He is amazing! The best server I have had in a restaurant ever , we came three years ago and he was exactly the same, friendly , chatty and just great. Obviously, this is overpriced fish and chips due to it being Rick Stein, you know this before you go there. You are more than able to get better and cheaper fish and chips elsewhere , and that’s just a fact. However , if you want convenience, a nice location, variety of menu and great service then you should try this place once! The big man Rick was in the building pottering around so I think the staff were on extra special behaviour as we got served by two additional staff members who seemed …. Over enthusiastic to be serving us so I think this was steered by the big man himself being there. There was a dog that kept barking which was pretty irritating when there is outdoor seating and we were indoors , the restaurant states only well behaved dogs so bare this in mind. We waited 45 minutes for 3 fish and chips and another meal consisting of cheesy chips , onion rings and a side salad and two couples came in after us and got served before us so I’m not really sure what went on there , they did take the onion rings off the bill though. We did visit 3 years ago and experienced a long wait time for 3 fish and chips .. so I’m not sure why it takes so long but the staff are more than happy to rectify anything that goes wrong. All in all if you haven’t been here before then I recommend going during less busy times, asking for Jason to be your server , try to get the takeaway option and sit outside if it’s not too cold! It is worth visiting once :)
ThatJazzGirl — Google review
We ordered from the takeaway at Rick Stein’s Fish & Chips, planning to sit at the benches outside. The service was painfully slow. While waiting, we noticed other customers turning up after us and being served before us. We queried this with a staff member who offered no apology or explanation, just a quick “we’ll do it now.” Over 30 minutes after we’d placed our order, the weather had turned and rain had set in, so we asked to be seated indoors instead. When the food eventually arrived, the disappointment continued. The portion of fish was tiny and had a tough, rubbery texture rather than the light, flakey fish you’d expect from a place with such a reputation. The chips were hit and miss: some ok, many unpleasantly brown. The cheesy chips were barely warm, and the cheese hadn’t even melted, as you can see in the photo. Overall, it felt like a premium price for a very sub-standard meal and poor service throughout. Expected far better from the Rick Stein name.
Lisa C — Google review
We ordered the SHARE & COMPARE — a generous set of local fish and chips with sauces and mushy peas. The portion was absolutely huge and yummy — three hungry adults left completely full and happy! I loved the laid-back atmosphere and the friendly, helpful staff. Their smiles and attitude made the whole experience even better.

A Fantastic Experience at Rick Stein Fistral I had an absolutely wonderful time at Rick Stein’s restaurant in Fistral. The food was nothing short of incredible – fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. Every bite was a delight, especially the seafood, which was clearly prepared with great care and expertise. What made the experience even more special was the stunning view from the terrace. Overlooking the beach, it offers the perfect backdrop to enjoy a relaxed meal. Watching the waves roll in while dining made the whole experience feel extra memorable. Highly recommend this spot if you're in the area – amazing food, breathtaking views, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!

Well…after vowing never to visit a Rick Stein restaurant again after the disappointment of the Falmouth restaurant meal years ago. I assumed that would be a one off, and this Fistral Beach location would be an acceptable offering. How wrong could I of been. We were a table of 2, visiting on a Wednesday afternoon. The restaurant was pretty empty, but the servers were initially pretty attentive. The food however was way below par. After waiting 35 minutes my partner had just got up ready to walk out, but I waited it out a bit longer. It finally came, 40 minutes from ordering. (Just for a sharing platter) The chips were pale and dead, and the fish was still scaled and didn’t taste as fresh as it should (I’m no fish expert but I’m sure they are not meant to be so scaley and full of bones) the bill was £56 after paying £4.95 for table water, 2 ciders and a sharing platter. This was meant to be a day off treat and if it had been good enough, we would have probably returned. But this was dreadful. I did mention my issues at the time of paying the bill. (Again, no body came and took our payment at the end. so I had to go to the bar and pay) The girl at the bar apologised and told me to leave a review and see if management contact me. We weren’t the only irritated customers. I only imagine how many customers complained today.

Incredible service and very welcoming. Very good with toddlers! Great knowledge of the wine list and perfect drink recommendation based on my meal choice. Delicious, hot food at really sensible prices. Very friendly staff and a friendly atmosphere. Stunning views rain or shine (we experienced both during one meal!) We dined at midday on a Sunday.

Shocking!! Don't waste your time or your money on this over rated venue! We waited 45 minutes for a table. Drinks arrived warm. Requested Ice, to be then told the ice has finished. I requested a can from the takeaway fridge section, to be then told ice is available. They took our drink back, added ice and then served it to another table!! Our drinks then arrived 10 minutes later with ice! Food arrived 45minutes after we placed the order. Kids tomato pasta was literally a can of tomotoes poured onto wet pasta. Salt and pepper prawns...no salt or pepper and what an anticlimax after pulling it out the shell as it has zero taste! The pad thai was inconsistent with quantities and sticky! Fish was OK. The only thing that was nice was the chips.

The Three Pilchards is a historic family-run pub in Polperro, known for serving the best fish and chips in Cornwall. The locally sourced fish and chips are renowned for their generous portions and are considered among the best in the area. The pub offers a charming hillside garden with picturesque views of the village, along with a selection of homemade meals featuring fresh seafood, complemented by a variety of well-kept wines, beers, and lagers.
This wee pub is stunning. It's a 100% pure, ye olde pub. It's very quaint and cosy with exposed beams and a log stove burning at one end. The staff were lovely and friendly and the food was excellent, containing freshly caught local fish. There is is also a small windy stair case which leads you up to a roof terrace with more seating and tables where you get to see the whole town. It's one of those places you could just hunker down for an afternoon of good beer and chat.

Stumbled in on a wet night last month and was greeted by a couple of lovely ladies and the manager, Matt - all of whom couldn’t do more for us! Tried the butter board (which was delicious), plus enjoyed a large serving of fish and chips (also delicious) all washed down with a nice bottle of (reasonably priced) red. It was my first time to Polperro but I’ll definitely be back - and straight back here! (…I’ve just seen the new veggie / vegan post on their Facebook and even those dishes look amazing. Genuinely could eat and relax here every night of the week: the absolute dream holiday!) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really can’t recommend the place enough! Even if you’re an hour or 2 away, it’s absolutely worth it. (I live in Thailand - and will be coming back especially!) Thanks for such a special, lovely time guys - and keep up the good work! 🙏🏻

This is a beautiful old pub in the heart of the quaint historic fishing town of Polperro. The pub includes an outdoor seating area on the roof, which provides a great view of the harbour below. The food is lovely and fresh. I definitely recommend booking a table for food as it was very busy. The service was brilliant and all the staff were so friendly and accommodating. The only possible downside is that the nearest parking is a good 15-20 minute walk away as the entire town is blocked off to unauthorised vehicles. The walk is lovely and it means the town itself is very quiet. However, factor this walk in if you are driving to this location. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal here and I'd highly recommend it.

I have known about The Coddy Shack for many years and even longer, known the Bond brothers from their business in Polperro but never managed to visit during my trips from Canada. 🇨🇦 I was surprised how big the enterprise is and there is a venue at the back which if I recall is a steak and seafood restaurant that looks like it could also be an ideal wedding venue overlooking the valley. I enjoyed Haddock and Chips with Mushy Peas. The fish was perfectly cooked and the batter was light and crispy. Great to see a bar there, so I had a pint as well. The place was busy which is always an indication that it has a good local following. The table service was very good and the food came quickly. There is a separate takeaway area and that was busy as well. A great experience that I must do again on my next visit. Highly recommended.

We have stayed in caravan site next door and ended up eating takeway fish& chips in this place every single day. Fantastic. Well organized and friendly staff. Restaurant cozy with plenty of parking. Takeway or eating in. Just 1 minute by car from caravan park first left towards Looe. You must eat there. Wish i was living close by...

One of the best meals for dinner and return for breakfasts we’ve ever had in England! 5* breakfast, thick cut home made toast, egg perfect. Large breakfasts, delicious coffee. Paul the chef, incredible! Our server Rachel Was efficient and friendly. Dinner, we each had Chips (the best fish & chip shop quality), steak, veggie lasagne, veggie burger, large white cod. A++ Recommend!

Always good food and great service and a wonderful atmosphere inside. Recommend you book as the seating capacity is a lot less than what they use to have before the fire back in 2023. Still working on the decking to increase seating capacity at some point in the future.

Thoroughly enjoyed an amazing takeaway meal from the Coddyshack this evening. Although there was a short wait, it meant the food was fresh to order. The food was incredible. We tried both the cod and the plaice and both were delicious. Even the bread and butter seemed artisan. The best chippy tea we have ever had. Highly recommend.

Nice friendly service, went early afternoon and didn't take long to get busy, the cod and chips tasted amazing, regular size was plenty enough. Has take away option or eat in the restaurant. Very clean, buzzing atmosphere definitely recommend 👌

Nestled in the charming fishing village of Polperro, the Blue Peter Inn is a historic Grade listed building that has evolved from its origins as two smugglers' cottages. Over the years, it has transformed from a tearoom to a seafood restaurant and finally into a beloved pub since the 1960s.
Charming pub with excellent friendly service and great food. Everyone in our group was very impressed with their meal. The beef burger was very good and - here’s a sign they aren’t just ticking boxes - the little salad that came with it was a lovely little dish in its own right. The meal sizes were very generous. Highly recommend.

Had a lovely experience, came here without a booking for the two of us but I had to call and ask for a table, you can't set up a tab but was still nice fresh food. Will definitely visit again next time down from London

A very popular pub which is closest to the sea. Outdoor seating area consists of benches on cobblestones either side of the public footpath. Seating inside is cosy! Very little downstairs but upstairs has 2 dining areas with the pub's little kitchen to one side and the ladies toilet. Despite the small kitchen, our order came quite quickly. I enjoyed pan-fried hake on a bed of delicious rissotto with asparagus and mange tout. No wonder it's so popular! One criticism is they were playing quite loud canned music which was totally unnecessary.

We ate at the Blue Peter twice on a short break in Polperro. Great atmosphere in a very old pub. Gives a feel of tales of old. The team were great and nice conversation had. Food was delicious. I’d certainly suggest trying it when you’re in Polperro. They don’t take bookings, but just have another pint and be patient, they’ll fit you in. 😊

Claire and i have just got back from a beautiful week in Polperro cornwall. We popped in for dinner on the Wednesday evening and OMG. The food was fantastic, all the staff are very welcoming the pub itself is one of the must gorgeous places we have ever been to . We ended up there every night for dinner . And it was worth every last penny

Quite simply one of the best pubs I've ever been in. Totally atmospheric. Would definitely visit again which is of course the ultimate recommendation. Very capable operated by a relatively young team. Food looked great and fantastic range of draught beers preferred in top quality condition. Top notch! Went again today, different staff but same great welcome and top food and drinks.

My wife and I enjoyed a bit of lunch and a few drink here whilst on holiday. It's lovely sitting out by the harbour. The food and drink were very good but it was quite a long wait for food considering it wasn't very busy. Overall we enjoyed it and would return.

Just the best evening out every time. Haven’t been for a while as we’ve been just so busy but we’ve both said we need to book in again soon. Crab and lobster 🦞 specials were amazing. Always such friendly, welcoming staff. Fabulous food and the view is just out of this world. We absolutely love it here. Can’t fault it. Thank you as always for having us. Highly recommended to book in advance so as not to miss out ! 👌👍🙏

A small but very cozy restaurant on the shore of an amazing beach. We came unexpectedly and did not book a table (although we should have). We asked to be placed on the street overlooking the beach, a table was prepared for us, blankets were given and our order was taken. As soon as the food was ready and served to the table, it started to rain. We were very lucky that at that moment a table inside became available, and we were quickly moved, for which I sincerely thank you. The food was, very beautifully presented, and also incredibly tasty. The service and taste of the food are simply unforgettable, we were very impressed, and as happy as possible that we came.

Had lunch with family at this place. Food was average at the best, oily fish and chips with very thin batter. Chips were cold, no tartare sauce served with fish n chips??? Expensive is the word, a total tourist trap. You can better quality and quantity in London for 12 quid....and that's London. Heee we paid 22 for cod and chips. 3 pieces of prawns in a portion, sauces(mayonnaise) charged as extra. Noodles over cooked in Pad thai, it was a mash of flat noodles.... Steer away from this place.

Had our anniversary dinner here and the staff looked after us. All food was incredible, the fish was wonderful, the homemade focaccia garlic bread was amazing too, 100% recommend and would suggest booking too as we visited on a midweek evening off season and it was still busy! Well worth a visit and if you get a nice evening the sunset is amazing!

Had a great meal tonight, we booked for 20 family members. The guys and girls couldn’t do enough for us, the staff were amazing and friendly. Meals were fantastic. I had a steak that was tender and tasty and the chefs had cooked to how I wanted.
Paul S — Google review
The good, the bad, and the unacceptable. The good - the pub is in such a wonderful position and if you're fortunate enough to eat at a window table, the view across the harbour is to die for. There's also a relaxed, unhurried vibe to enjoy regardless of your table. The bad - the Sunday carvery seems to be unmissable. After all, what is not to like about crispy roast potatoes and crackling along with your pork. The reality, however, took me back many years to school dinners. The potatoes, if they ever were crispy, were served beneath gravy soaked pork, so, of course they were soggy. No crackling came with the meal and the Yorkshire puddings were rock hard and dry. There's more, but you've got the idea. On a small plus side, the manager, did deduct the cost of two meals. However, I would have much preferred, not a deduction, but a genuine apology and, surely, a commitment to let the kitchen staff know that the food quality was unacceptable. Not many changes would be needed to transform the food into something that would encourage customers to return rather than look elsewhere. As a local, I have always previously enjoyed eating here, so feel badly let down on this occasion.

Fantastic location right on the harbour, with spacious rooms and genuinely lovely staff — both the check-in and dining room teams made us feel welcome. A few areas could be improved: the room access via a narrow alley and banging staircase door, very low shower water pressure, and slow breakfast service with a limited buffet. Still, a great spot in the heart of St Ives.
Micol M — Google review
Stayed for 2 nights September 25, Gorgeous building on the harbour of st.ives, we were expecting to park up and walk a fair way with suitcases because of location... It is what it is... Be prepared. Checked in, nice social area, the lady who checked us in was pleasant and showed us to our room. Out of a side door in to an alley, in through another side door and up a really steep staircase...if you're not able bodied?, this isn't the place for you. Our room was large and comfortable, everything you would expect for the price point, clean and spacious. The water pressure....abysmal. it took nearly an hour to run a bath... I don't know if anything can be done about that?. The shower was slow but functional. I've seen a nose run quicker than the taps. In the room we were in, there weren't any views but we were out and about so it didn't really matter. The bar was well stocked, sporting events on the screens, so if you are a sports fan?... You're catered to. The breakfasts were very nice but the service at breakfast was minimal and awkward. First morning, there wasn't any juices available, but the second morning there were. I don't know if I was being stupid?, but cereal and milk was available but apparently nothing to put them in?... Again I don't know if I was being stupid or not looking in the right place, but I would expect the necessary wares to be obvious. Nice selection of pastries and condiments and the butter was soft which is rare. You are shown to a table by the first staff member you come in to contact with, but after that it's whoever you can get the attention of.... And the food is good. But after it's been delivered we had no follow through or check in, no offer of drink refills and while I'm on the subject.... The tea is not good. Boasts at being a Cornish blend but if that means 'piddle weak'?... They need help. It's a lovely, building, a fantastic location, the rooms are nice, the food is nice.... But the service isn't there, there is no structure to the customer facing roles, it's a bit whoever, whenever. Upon checking out?.... We just left the key on the bar with a wave to a staff member sat in the office. No follow up about our stay, were we happy?, were there any issues?, the beer barrel banging in the alley at 6 in the morning right underneath our room wasn't the worst thing to happen in the world, but it did wake us up. The facilities are there, it's not amazing stay but it's satisfactory, but the service is substandard for the price point... And I get it, it's a popular town, an amazing sought after location.... They don't need the repeat business because they will get new business year on year regardless.

Been going for the last few weeks.....but this week was a new menu, the Sunday roast was good. Choice of 3 meats , chicken, beef(on the pink side) and pork. Plenty of vegetables come with the roast, and if you wanted more side cost about £3.50 each...the food was delicious and was told it was a new chef...you can tell from previous weeks...worth a booking if in the town and I look forward to trying the menu in the week...will keep going 👍

Been coming here for years when on holiday but today has put us off returning , the food and the view is great but the staff were rude , yes the table we were sat at was reserved but we still had 15 minutes before that time and we were told “I need the table back” no hi just to let you know I’ll need the table soon or how was our food etc plus we were still finishing our food , so we’re gonna find somewhere else to spend our money . Such a shame as we’ve had such good food and lovely staff before

My Friend and I had a lovely lunch of Local Ham,eggs and chips. It was delicious 😋. Also had a couple of pints of Korev!! I however managed to leave my phone behind and it was very kindly handed in to the staff, so whoever you were I am so thankful and the barmanager was brilliant in making sure it was my phone before he let me take it, which is only right. All the staff are very friendly and the customer service is second to none. We will be back. It's one of our favourites.

Awful experience. We got seated on a bench with 4 other people and there were tables free. Asked if we could move after a while they agreed. Waited an hour for the main meal to arrive after ordering it and it was cold and dried up when it arrived. It was clear it had been sitting there. The burgers were pink inside. Service was awful as table was dirty and glasses not collected. The manager was rude when we explained the meal was cold. Asked for a refund she came over slammed the money on the table. Do NOT eat here its horrible

The Mote is a charming harbourside restaurant located in a 16th-century building, offering a delightful dining experience across two floors. The menu features an array of locally sourced seafood and fish dishes, including the renowned lobster caught just 20 yards away. The cozy atmosphere invites guests to savor hearty breakfasts and leisurely lunches while enjoying the warm hospitality of the staff.
One of the best meals I’ve ever had, let alone the best almost completely seafood meal I’ve had! 10/10 and would definitely come back As we were camping in Port Isaac, our plans for a barbecue were scuppered by the remnants of Storm Lilian and the staff at The Mote kindly squeezed the two of us and the dog in for a last minute reservation. From this point on I couldn’t fault the staff. We opted to sit on the little outside seats which had a handy overhead heater. We got a trio of starters, and each one seemed to get better than the next; my wife can be a little hit or miss with fish dishes but we both cleaned up the crab bruschetta and the smoked mackerel pate (the dog got to try a little bit too, of course!). Our mains were a good old haddock and chips, cooked perfectly, so the batter was crispy and tasty; and my wife had garlic and parsley mussels which were strangely gone before I could try any! Wouldn’t be right to finish a review without mentioning our view as the sun went down behind us - couldn’t have been a more perfect way to round off our trip to Cornwall!
Thomas J — Google review
Food is tasty but more expensive than in other harbors. We were slightly disappointed with the fish choice : just a stake wing as Special main and a fish and chips or a salmon as regular mains. The only other seafood was mussels and shrimps, no crab today. The mote served us good food, but we were definitely by what they had to offer unfortunately.

Ate twice here whilst celebrating my 60th birthday in Cornwall. Both nights, the food was gorgeous. Photos are of 2nd visit for 5 people. I had the mussels and prawns in broth. 11 shells were not open but ample numbers were. Just need to remove the unopened ones before sending out of kitchen. Wine list was great. Service excellent. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. If I come back to Port Isaac, I'll return for another great meal.

Beautiful restaurant in Port Issac with incredible views from our table upstairs. There was a great feel/atmosphere to the place, and the staff could not do enough to help. We ordered the fish pie, crab sandwich, and children's fish and chips. The fish pie was the best I've tasted anywhere in the world. All meals were beautifully presented, and all ingredients looked and tasted fresh. We have a lovely meal and would definitely return when visiting the area again.

Exquisite in every way! An absolutely delicious restaurant. Every dish we tried was made with fresh, high-quality ingredients, prepared with a level of care that you can taste in every bite. The food was simply outstanding — full of flavor and beautifully presented. The service was also impeccable: attentive, friendly, and always with a smile. You can tell they truly enjoy what they do, and it shows in the entire experience. A place I’ll definitely return to and one I wholeheartedly recommend. A true culinary gem!

Excellent value for money with a great variety of fresh seafood on offer. Visited on a Bank Holiday Monday, there was a small queue outside, but the wait wasn’t too long. The food was delicious and served in reasonable portions. The John Dory was outstanding, with an unbeatable garlic butter. Will definitely be returning.

Fantastic food, local fish and seafood doesn't get any better! Really friendly staff and service. Queues outside as the place is so popular but they were still able to seat us very quickly and our food was brought out to us really quickly and was lovely fresh and hot. The deep fried squid was super tasty, monkfish burger, crab salad and local hake with capers and samphire. Highly recommend everything including the elderflower cider!

The food was amazing! They have two places to dine in and if you arrive at the peak you have to wait for a while. We waited for ten or fifteen minutes and took a inside dining bar. The service was very good, with a lady recommended some today’s specials ( the mussels were really nice and freshly cooked)

A lovely chill seafood restaurant with amazingly friendly staffs. The atmosphere is good, though a bit crowded. Scallops tastes amazing with dedicated texture and harmonious sauce. The only drawback is the lobster, which was a bit over-cooked and the texture goes firmer that I expected

Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar is well worth a visit. We arrived at 2.30pm to take a look and were greeted on the kerb by the waitress who showed us to the table outside on the pavement and put a heater on ( we preferred pavement as we have an unpredictable puppy ) The portion sizes are small as it's a taster menu so select several. We had crispy Squid, grilled Monkfish and grilled Mackerel, all were cooked to perfection, the best lunch we have had in years. The service is definitely 5 star as well as the food. Yes, it's pricey as others have said however you can't get fresher fish than being next to the harbour, straight from the boat to the kitchen. You can't book a table just turn up, we went on a week day afternoon in October. Honestly well worth trying.

Fantastic little place - you cant book a table and it operates via a queue system outside (this works best if you're in a couple as likely to get seated sooner than in a large group) however we didnt wait long at all. Food was delicious and fresh (the hake was like butter and melted in your mouth) staff are friendly and service was very efficient. It was full when we got there and I can understand why its so popular. All the food was cooked perfectly. There is also a carpark nearby (basically across the road), which we discovered was free from Mon-Sun after 4pm til 9pm - perfect for an evening meal. Highly recommend.

Absolutely fantastic experience and worth every penny. We went on a Sunday and it was busy but they were still able to find us a very good seat. All staff were friendly and relaxed and knew a lot about the menu. The food was incredible, so fresh and the flavours were perfect. We had one of the specials, the smoked mackerel pate, the John Dory and the crab salad and we loved it. Would highly recommend it if you have the budget. It's worth the treat if you like local seafood.

Porthminster Kitchen offers a modern take on traditional Cornish dishes, set in a bright and airy space with the option for terrace seating and stunning water views. Located in St Ives, the restaurant provides an ideal spot to enjoy lunch, dinner, or coffee while taking in panoramic ocean views. The menu features a fusion of global flavors using fresh local ingredients, particularly highlighting seafood with a Mediterranean twist.
We had a fantastic lunch at Porthminster Kitchen in St. Ives. The location is unbeatable - right on the harbour with stunning views across the water. We were lucky to get a table on the terrace without a booking, and the view was absolutely breathtaking. It does get busy, so it’s worth arriving early or booking ahead if you can. The atmosphere was lovely - clean, relaxed, and welcoming, with a modern coastal vibe that suits the location perfectly. Service was fast and friendly. The food was outstanding - fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavour. I had the sea bream with an Asian twist, and it was incredibly tasty and well-balanced. My partner went for the steak sandwich and absolutely loved it. There’s also a good selection of drinks, and I really enjoyed a glass of local Cornish cider. Prices are on the higher side, but that’s expected in St Ives - and honestly, the quality, setting, and service make it well worth it. A brilliant spot for lunch or dinner with a view - highly recommend!

Definitely a 5-star experience. This restaurant exceeded my expectations in every way. Each dish is boldly crafted by a chef with a deep understanding of flavor balance. The seafood is incredibly fresh, and the use of lemon elevates the dishes beautifully. The service is warm and welcoming—our server made us feel right at home. I started with the mussels, which were rich and creamy, yet well-balanced. The accompanying bread was a perfect match. I also recommend the linguine—it had a subtle Asian twist with wonderful crab flavors. The curry dish was an interesting interpretation of South Asian cuisine; I appreciated the creative use of sesame, though the rice was slightly overcooked for my taste. Overall, I highly recommended the place - especially impressive for a sightseeing town like St Ives.

Really quiet and welcoming restaurant right on the harbour, with a nice view across the water. The service was friendly and fast. The food was delicious and the seafood fresh. We had fish and chips (gluten-free), the catch of the day, seafood linguine, and the monkfish curry. I also got tenderstem broccoli as a side, they were crunchy and well seasoned. We only ordered soft drinks and a couple of beers, and it came to almost £40 each. I’d really recommend the place!

Lovely quiet spot in the heart of St Ives, would recommend. Food was 4/5. We had the oysters, it was fresh, however, we would much prefer to add the toppings ourselves as we find the ponzu and shallots were overpowering the natural flavour of the oysters. We had fried squid as our starter, light and crispy battered squid with refreshing salad. I had the fish and chips and they were good. Light and crispy batter. Chips were fluffy on the inside, crunchy on the outside. My partner had seafood linguine and it was a bit too salty. Desert was disappointing. We had the sticky toffee pudding, the pudding itself was dry on the inside. There wasn’t enough toffee sauce provided.

This takeaway restaurant in Newquay offers some of the best fish and chips in Cornwall. The batter remains a strictly secret family recipe and the prices are very affordable, making it a popular choice for travellers and local regulars. You can enjoy your meal either inside or out with beautiful views of the ocean.
Fabulous fish and chips to take away or sit inside which we did. The medium cod special was large and delicious. Fresh white cod in a light crispy batter and lovely big chips. Lots of curry sauce and mushy peas too and a nice hot cup of tea
Dianne P — Google review
I’m not usually a massive fan of fish and chips but decided to give this place a try based on reviews from Google and TripAdvisor. I have to say, it was very good. We had the fish special which was a medium sized battered cod, chips and curry sauce, priced at £11.50 (dining in). The fish was fresh and the batter crispy, very well cooked. The chips were slightly over-cooked (not a big issue, personal preference) and the curry sauce was thick and had taste and flavour unlike some places. The dining in experience all gives you excellent views of the beach and the service from the waitress was excellent. All in all, very pleased. Would recommend.

The batter on the Cod was crispy, the fish just flaked apart, the chips were lovely and the peas were lush. Great service and a beautiful view. Highly recommended.

We came in on Friday evening just expecting a takeaway chippy but the view was sensational watchign the sunset, the dine-in area was very clean and the staff were absolutely lovely and ensured we had everything we needed. The portion sizes were immense, I had scampi, chips and salad, my partner had the pinwheel burger and we split a bowl of calamari. This was incredibly fresh fish, served up hot and crispy, we struggled to finish it all and the staff were so polite as we left. I cannot recommend here enough, the staff are caring, the food is brilliant and the view is one like no other!

Food did take a few minutes but was mostly worth the wait and price. Fried Chicken burger was a lil dry and could have been better then the Tesco Southern Fried Chicken pieces they used. But the chips were great and so was the other meals we ordered . Burgers are large Chips are a good portion size Kebab meat was fresh and tasty .

Never had a breakfast like it, at any sea side. Very cheap only £10 but you are paying for what you get part cooked greasy tinned mushrooms , just not nice at all. Group of 7 adults all having full English. Did try but cold ,just could not eat it . I have never given a review like this before I always like to be positive someone's business but I could not find anything here

The view is fantastic, and the establishment has a welcoming atmosphere with friendly service. The cleanliness and tidiness of the place are commendable. Additionally, it's great to see that it's dog-friendly, allowing pets inside as well. These factors contribute to a pleasant experience overall.

Best GF fish & chips in Cornwall. Came here for the first time in 2021 & back again 4yrs later 2025 for our second visit to Cornwall the food is that good! Fresh, tasty made to order. Everything is cooked fresh! Great portion sizes too 😋 Curry sauce tastes amazing too. Whenever we're in Cornwall this somewhere I'll always eat. You always deliver on food & service. All staff are friendly, work hard & everthing runs smoothly to keep on top of queues. My fish was that huge, you can't see the mountain of chips underneath. Would recommend & definitely return when we're next in Cornwall. Missing this chippy already 😢

We decided to go here on Google reviews and it was the closest to where we were staying. The girl who served us was very happy, welcoming and polite. Service was quick and we waited for our order. Attached is a picture of my meal and also a bowl full of batter that I picked from my fish. Far too much batter, maybe they should drain it a little more to get just a thin coating of batter (happy customer) and use less batter mix (happy owner). The portion of peas and gravy for the price was far too small. In Nottingham you'd pay half the price for the same amount, tourist trap? Anyway the fish was very good and nice to see they do pickled eggs! Would we go back, no we'd try somewhere else to be honest, shame as if it tweaked these points it could be the best in the area.

We last visited Becks what seems like decades ago. We always appear to have been passing since when it is closed or on route to another destination. Thankfully the drought is now over. Managed finally to be hungry and passing (although truth be told it was actually a planned visit). 5 of us went there were 5 empty plates. They served goodly portions leaving all very full. You can go large if you wish but be prepared for whale size portions folks as when they say the standard portion is like a large already they mean it. The batter on the cod was second to none and as crispy as it comes, the cod itself was lovely and thick and silky which is seriously hard to come by these days. When you crack open the batter not only is it piping hot it smells like the fish and chips did when i were growing up . We also had scampi which was excellent and breaded plaice which I am told was delicious. Best surprise of all was they also had gravy and curry sauce too which was a bonus please be aware though its not on the menu so make sure you ask for it as they are both very very good (huge servings too). We are all looking forward to a revisit. If you are also considering if the gluten free bit affects anything the answer is a resounding no. All chippy’s should use it if it would make the fish and chips taste like Becks.

I discovered here during a road trip last year. Unfortunately, i was too busy stuffing my face to take a photograph then so i stopped by the next day (without checking the closing times, my mistake) only to discover it was shut. Mortified, as it was the last day of the road trip, i said i would return the next time i found myself in Cornwall and here i am. Only this time i managed to restrain myself back long enough to take this photograph. If that alone doesn't tell you how nice the food is i don't know what else will. Lovely polite staff with excellent service. Will gladly stop by again the next time i am in Cornwall.

We went here for the first time as it was the last night of our stay in Carbis Bay. The location was very convenient and the parking was very easy to access. The service that we got was very good even though it was a busy Friday evening. The young lady who took our order was very polite and friendly. The cod that we got was very tasty and was lightly battered as requested. However the chips were very dry and tasted like they were cooked hours ago so were very disappointing and not very appetising. The meal was very heavy and gave me indigestion. I am sorry that we won't be returning and were disappointed even though we had been given good reports by locals

UPDATE Aug 2025: The best fish and chips in the world. Huge portions, couldn't finish it. Great value! Loved it!! Visited here last night with my son and husband. Check the opening times as it closes early at 8pm. And it is closed on a Sunday and Monday. We eat in the restaurant and have had our best meal yet on holiday. It has a real oldie worldie charming feel to it inside. When you enter, there is a sign saying go to the far end of the bar to be seated. In short, the lady takes your name, asks you to buy drinks at the bar, and then goes that's done. You'll be taken to your seat. Food is made to order, but ours came out quickly. Brillant kids menu. See pic plus colours and activity sheet kept our boy busy. The fish and chips were perfection! Fresh, crispy batter and light. Curry sauce was fab, too. Paying gets done at the front, and when you're ready to leave. Old fashion hospitality and service which is friendly and welcoming. Nothing seemed rushed or crowded or hectic, which was lovely. Huge portions. Highly recommend this is a hidden gem. Although i don't think it's hidden from the reviews and how busy it was. There is also a takeaway on the side.

An absolutely wonderful 'chippy'. Warm and friendly reception from polite and attentive staff. Nice bar area for if there is a wait. Food is very tasty and plentiful, best fish and chips I have had in a good many years. My wife said the Scampi she had was the best ever. So good, we went back the following evening. Highly recommended.

A very very busy restaurant and takeaway, long queue for the takeaway but service was quick, we headed for the restaurant on entering it says to make your way to the end of the bar where we put our names in a book to await a table, we had a drink while we waited which wasn't long, we had a table for 2 , and we had the very delicious fishcakes and chips, had we realised how big the portions were we would of asked for a smaller portion as it is suggested on the menu but that said the food was delicious, happy staff, would definitely visit again when down in carbis bay.

Epic. I must visit when in looe Food was tasty portions size are huge. Personally a kids portion would feed an adult. We visited twice over the week holiday. Fish was fresh and decent. I had a kids portion, partner got the large fish which he said wasn’t that great and over cooked. We went back and had cheesy chips and onion rings they were amazing.

May I have some tap water?" "uhhhhh, okay...?" Smashing first impression, but nevermind, the food may be good. turns out it wasn't. There was practically no fish, but grand if you enjoy a bunch of sggy batter. The fish was tasteless and the chips were average. I wouldn't bother, just bring a sandwich and enjoy it by the water. speaking of tap water, it was warm and they barely filled it.
David B — Google review
Good quality fish and chips. We had Hake and chips with Tartare sauce. Fish was lovely and crispy, chips were pretty good and Tartare sauce delicious. Only slight down side was that two items we ordered first (Plaice and Squid) were both off, but perhaps this was seasonal supply related. That said what we had was very nice, and there is seating outside next to the harbour.

I ate here yesterday with my family whilst on holiday. We are from a seaside town anyway, but all 5 of us have said this is the BEST fish and chips we have EVER had! Incredible food! The fish was huge, the batter was golden and crispy, the chips were great and the battered sausage was amazing! Overall amazing experience would definitely recommend!

Awful! Chips were tasteless, fish was below average and the mushy peas were so dry. Stick to Kelly's (who is actually cheaper and perfect every time).

Sanders Fish and Chips is a casual dining spot in the heart of Hayle, offering classic British fare served at a counter with beer and wine. The restaurant is known for its good-sized portions, crispy batter, and excellent sauces at reasonable prices, making it a great choice for families. Additionally, they are famous for their creamy milkshakes.
Just ordered for 10 people, food was prepared on time for our collection. All food was freshly prepared and still very warm upon arrival at our campsite. All members of our party commented on the quality of the chips and the freshness of the fish. Would totally recommend.

Came here with our small family, didn't realise it was just before close but they still served us. We really enjoyed the fish, chips, sausages and garlic mushrooms. Don't know about others saying the food is greasy, ours was borderline healthy with nice clean chips and no salt, which we added to our liking at the table. Brought back childhood memories of classic fish and chips whilst not feeling too guilty! Will definitely revisit on our next Cornish adventure through Hayle

The best fish and chips we've had in Cornwall. Much better than another famous fish and chip shop further up the north coast. The batter was light and crisp with real flavoursome chips. Great staff.

Decided to order food for take out from here based on other reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was fresh and portions were generous, could have done with a bit more vinegar on the chips, but they were tasty, and the fish batter was light and crispy. Would definately recommend!

Service can be hit or miss, wait times can be long even when it doesn't look too busy. Fish is okay, but there is better in the area. Chips are great though. Prices are a little on the high side (but where isn't these days?) Chicken burger is terrible though. Avoid that for sure.

Cannot tell you how excited I was to have a full gluten free menu to choose from especially when I thought I was buying food for the rest of the family and having beans on toast when I got back home! All our food was delicious and the view from the bench opposite the shop wasn’t bad either!

Disappointed with food here. Chips were very bland. Especially since they were freshly cooked. Also the portion size is embarrassing just around 30 chips for £3.50. and quite a few were small. (See pic) . Fish was OK but small for regular size., Wouldn't mind paying if it tastes nice. Another guy there couldn't belive the potion size also. The staff just said that that's the regular portion. I got the impression they hear that alot. Just over £60 for 4 fish and chip with 3 mushy peas.
MN R — Google review
Disappointing portion size. Compared to my usual by the spar in hayle to not mention names. The fish is far less in size than the above store for £9.50 per piece. And chips not as tasty and again smaller portion. £25 for 2 pieces of fish. One chips and a ketchup pot. It’s a lot to pay when the fish portions are small compared to other local Fish and chip shops. I would recommend trying another.

Very cheerful polite staff. Ordered via in store machine which was straightforward. The portions were generous and great that you offer gluten free option. Not a cheap meal anywhere these days so would say average price really. Our first time having read the bothe the good and bad reviews and based on this experience would recommend and come again. Annoyed didn't bring 10% discount card from holiday home;)

Ordered a regular cod and chips which was cooked to order. Good sized portion, and very tasty too! Some of the best chips I’ve had in a long while. Staff were friendly. At the time of visiting (Jun 25) it was takeaway only

Really clean and spacious, so not cramped while I waited for my order to be cooked. Plaques on the wall with recent accolades, quite impressive. The cod was beautiful, cooked to perfection. Staff were well presented, jolly and worked efficiently. There are options for ordering online or through kiosk's in-store. I just went to the counter though as It was quiet. I went back in after devouring the meal in the car. Had to try some ice-cream, really tasty 😋 I'd definitely recommend and will use again if we holiday nearby again.

We had a lovely Sunday roast here which was a generous portion and wonderful rare beef. Only slight criticism was that the potatoes tasted like that they weren't as fresh as they could have been, but everything else was superb including the cauliflower cheese (which my wife said was best she had tasted). Staff were lovely and nice atmosphere

Kevin O — Google review
We came for a Sunday roast yesterday with very high hopes as we had heard a lot of good things about this place, we sat down by a young girl who didn’t even look like she was dressed to be working at a restaurant, we wasn’t offered any water for the table but instead just pointed at our table and said “that’s yours” we sat down and started to look at the menu. Our orders were taken and about 10 minutes after the same girl came and said “we haven’t got any swede or whatever the other thing is” which we then asked what? And she said I don’t know. At this point we wasn’t actually sure what we was going to be getting and slightly disappointed we weren’t told this prior to ordering. We were asked if we wanted cauliflower cheese instead which only 1 of us said yes to. This whole time she kept pointing in our faces (we had also seen her do this to other tables too) When our food eventually came, everyone had cauliflower cheese on there plate despite saying no, I had to go to the bar and ask for salt and pepper as we had none on the table. The food was okay, the beef was incredibly pink (I understand beef is supposed to be pink but I had never seen it THIS pink before) the pork was unbelievably fatty. Other than this and having cauli cheese that we didn’t ask for we had no complaints about the food. We weren’t checked on while eating our food and during the meal we overheard another waitress ask the table next to us if they want any water and any specific dietary requirements , this then annoyed us because why weren’t we asked any of this? When it came to then end of our meal no one cleared our plates but instead we went up to the bar to pay. We expressed how unhappy we were and the waitress who we had been served by the entire time then slammed her elbow down and said “gowan then hit me with it” we had never been spoken to like this in a ‘restaurant’ before. The food was the only thing saving this place as the customer service was disgraceful. By the looks of it this young rude girl seemed to be bossing everyone around which made us think she may be the manager, if this is the case please rethink you decision. During our visit the place was getting busier by the waitress freinds who were all laughing and shouting walking in and out of the restaurant smelling like weed. This made the atmosphere not very nice for a meal. We will not be returning.

I’ve been coming to Morrish’s for years and last night was one of the slowest times I’ve been here. It wasn’t fairly busy but seemed to be quite a few staff but slow service. Food was good but the cod was quite salty when received, chips were lovely and golden and the curry sauce was one of the best I’ve had at a chippy. The seafood basket on the other hand was a let down as it, fish was watery and bland. I highly recommend the chocolate fondant with ice cream, really sweet but delicious. Plenty of parking. I will come back but I wish for a bit of faster service.
Elfj03 — Google review
Normally always get a nice portion of cheesy chips from here, a nice form of cheese than whatever this orange stuff is. Not sure if its cost cutting or they had ran out of their normal cheese, but not nice especially when you wait over half an hour. Won't come again now

Argoe is a charming restaurant located in Penzance, overlooking Newlyn harbour. It aims to recreate the ambiance of fishing village restaurants in France and Spain. The menu features 7 to 9 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish cooked on woodfire grills for added flavor. The restaurant has quickly gained a reputation as one of the best dining spots in Penzance, offering delicious seafood dishes that celebrate the local fishing industry.
This is the best food I have ever eaten in a restaurant in England, all the ingredients are fresh and cooked perfectly. We ordered a whole fish, a whole crab, scallops, octopus, pieces of fish fried in batter, but they didn't take photos of all the dishes. There is a problem with drinks, be prepared for the fact that the best option is to order a bottle of wine and plain water, but after trying their dishes you forget about drinks. I definitely recommend visiting.

Fantastic seafood restaurant in Newlyn harbour. Lunch for 2. Padron Peppers and Leeks & Romesco Sauce to start. Whole grilled John Dory for the main dish (with chips and salad). All delicious, our best meal while on holiday in Cornwall, and one of the best anywhere this year. The weather was kind to us so we were able to sit on the balcony overlooking the fishing boats. Efficient & friendly service.

We visited Argoe last week during our week long stay in Newlyn - hands down one of the best meals of our lives. Perfectly cooked fresh fish from the harbour and big bold flavours! We couldn’t fault it. The staff talked us through all the different fish on offer, some we’d never tried before so that was a great help. 10/10 recommend to anyone visiting the area, not to be missed! (Special mention to the Smoked Whiting Roe Flatbread, incredible) 🐟 💪🏻

Wow, just wow! One of the best meals I’ve had in the UK. My partner and I were staying in St Ives and made the trip out to Newlyn just to try Argoe — well worth it! Such a fantastic range of local fresh seafood and quality produce. The portions were much bigger than we anticipated so we were stuffed to the gills by the end of our meal. The standouts were the aubergine, fritto misto, octopus and the scallops. The service was perfect, too, we felt like we were part of a lovely little community initiative. Thank you! 10/10 :)

Lewis, located in Newlyn, Penzance, England, is a renowned restaurant that takes advantage of its proximity to the historic harbour. The establishment prides itself on serving some of the freshest fish available, with seafood being carried directly from the harbour to the kitchen for swift preparation. While famous for its delectable cod, Lewis also offers a variety of other fish such as john dory, hake and monkfish.
Amazing food, my favorite fish and chips so far. We had John Dory and it was fresh and delicious. Awesome chips too. Small place, not really planed for dining inside, but the surroundings are awesome for a take away by the ocean. I will come back and recommend.
Iñigo S — Google review
We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious haddock, medium chips, and gluten-free cod and chips. The skinless fish was beautifully cooked in a bubbly batter, and the generous portions of chips were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The staff were lovely, and the premises were clean. Our only disappointment, whilst we requested large fish, it transpired that only small or standard sizes are available. The fish, however, was rather small considering that it cost £9 alone (£12.50 with chips) so not great value & disappointing after a couple of days of looking forward to it. Aside from that, we recommend this establishment.

Two stars only because service was decent. £6.50 for a large chips and curry sauce, chips are quite hard, may have been sitting a while, curry sauce is tepid.. I'm not sure if you know but it's supposed to be served hot. Won't be back.
Amy L — Google review
great sized fish (haddock) and decent chips let down by one of the most dreadful and genuinely disgusting curry sauces we’ve ever tried. made from powder (as a good majority of chippies do) but incredibly thick and jelly-like as the girl making them didn’t bother to measure the quantities. a massive let down considering the sauces are £2 a pop. 4/10
Finley P — Google review
The staff were lovely and the fish and chips were nice. Nothing spectacular, but they missed out packing a whole cod, which cost me £9! When I called to say, as was too far away to pick up another, they said they would refund to back to my card. 8 days later and they haven’t. Just a bit disappointed by that as £9 is a lot of money these days.

decent fish and chips. the batter could have been better. Great Curry Sauce and Mushy Peas. They were very kind and served us just as they were closing.

The Mariners Public House in Rock is a relaxed eatery with a terrace offering a variety of dishes including seafood, shepherd's pie, and meat options. Situated by the Camel Estuary, diners can enjoy picturesque views of oyster beds while indulging in locally sourced delicacies. Led by Paul Ainsworth and his team, this gastropub boasts a menu featuring small plates and hearty Cornish classics.
Went in for a drink and we decided to have some snacks. Everything we had was superb. Possibly the best cabbage I’ve ever had and the truffle mayo was worth the money on its own. The scotch egg is worth a try too. We will have a proper sit down meal next year. Unfortunately I didn’t get his name but the gentleman front of house is a credit to the establishment. He couldn’t do enough for us. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. We will be back. Loved it.

Perfect! We were greeted at the door by a charming Frenchman. All of the Staff were extremely professional and friendly. The food was amazing, inventive and traditional alike. Very reasonably priced Well done Paul, Emma and the team

Went for dinner here while staying in Rock and was wowed by the food and service! The restaurant is set overlooking the sea and the feel is very relaxed and down to earth focusing on local drinks and produce to a very high standard. To eat we shared a scotch egg, chicken curry and gem salad side. All were exceptional! The scotch egg and curry where some of the best we have ever had! Service was also lovely and super genuine. Couldn't recommend enough if you are in Rock or looking for a proper gastropub in North Cornwall. Also thought it was very good value and reasonably priced for the outstanding quality!

Had a fabulous lunch here. The food was outstanding. Service good and lovely views. The anniversary card was a lovely touch. Highly recommend.
LESLEY D — Google review
Good restaurant but nothing great about it. Menu very poor, especially in seafood and fish options. We had monkfish that was ok but nothing great to justify the price. The goat cheese was really good. We had a tomato salad from the special menu that was weird and disappointing. The wine was warm and we asked ice to be added to the bucket. The young stuff that served our table really nice and helpful, however we felt rushed there.

A joy, good staff , aware of their clients. My partner has some mobility issues, so ensured she had somewhere to sit whilst waiting for our table. Good traditional food options, great deserts with custard 🍮
Barry B — Google review
Wow, what can I say? We've wanted to come here for ages and was so pleased to be able to book a table for lunch and bring our labrador along during our holiday in Cornwall. Earlier in our stay, we'd booked a table at Rick Stein's pub in St Merryn and left feeling pretty disappointed. The staff at that place could learn an awful lot from those at The Mariners! From our arrival, which was half an hour early, to the moment we left, the staff were absolutely brilliant. The perfect balance of attentiveness without intrusiveness and made us (even our lab!) feel very welcome. The food was outstanding, honestly - every single bite was simply delicious. The best squid I've ever had, and so well presented. Our mains were the monkfish and lamb rump, followed by the pineapple and brown butter sponge with the most amazing custard. Overall, the staff, the location, the pub, the food and drinks made this whole experience a real treat. It is going to be a firm fixture for future trips to Cornwall. Cannot wait to return!

It was our first time trying The Mariners and it was fab! We got a good table by the front window overlooking the bay and outside seating so we could enjoy the lovely evening. I didn’t catch her name but there was one lady handling the bar and orders on her own downstairs and she did an awesome job, was proper on top of everything and was friendly too. The food was amazing! So tasty and really interesting options too. Not the cheapest but for the name attached to the pub it’s not surprising, but also very fair because the food was extremely well done. The chicken thigh madras curry in particular was delicious. It was quite loud at times so occasionally difficult to hear each other, but overall a great atmosphere. Will gladly return one day!

The hotel features modern rooms, an outdoor heated pool, sun terraces, a bar, and a restaurant. Its position on an outcrop of rocks provides unparalleled vistas of the surrounding seas and golden sands.
The place looks amazing after the refurbishment. The menu is amazing, we went for burgers that were delicious. Also had strawberry pavlova, yami. The service was great as always. We missed Crystal who was away on holiday but Sarah took a great care of us! We had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves. We've already booked a table for next week 🙂

Wow! If you’re visiting St.Ives then this place should definitely be on the top of your “to-do” list, it’s superb. You won’t find better views and the decor has a real feel of luxury and relaxation. We have been coming to the locality as a couple usually twice a year, for the last 5-years or so and somehow we’ve never been here before. I’ll tell you why actually…. the menu didn’t particularly appeal to us. We hadn’t realised it’s had a re-vamp but had decided to just finally try it - and my god we’re so glad we did!!! We managed to nab a table on the balcony just after midday with far reaching views over to the three mile beach and beyond to the lighthouse 👌🏼👌🏼Having checked out menu we ordered the Surf n Turf, potato salad, then Korean Chicken with Lobster fries. Unfortunately they brought out my wife’s food and my chips, but seemed to forget my Korean Chicken…. I waited patiently and cheekily started grazing on my wife’s the steak n prawns 🤣 but it didn’t arrive. I raised it with the team after 10 mins who apologised explaining there was a mix up with tables moving or something, another 5 mins and it arrived. Shame, as the food was very, very good/tasty. I know these things can happen so I’ll let it slide this time, especially as the girls were very friendly/apologetic. We almost went back for dinner this evening to order the same dishes 🤣🤣🤣, that’s how much we enjoyed it.

We recently visited Pedn Olva for a birthday meal. This was our first time in St Ives and our first time visiting Pedn Olva. We were made to feel extremely welcome, the service was fantastic, as well as the food which was delicious! We sat up on the top for some drinks before the meal and were offered blankets to help keep warm- which was lovely! We then went downstairs where the team had reserved a lovely sea view table. They had written a birthday note and provided a birthday drink of choice on the house, which was a lovely touch and greatly appreciated. The food came out promptly and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We would 100% recommend to anyone we know who would be visiting St Ives!

Been coming here for years usually just a drink in the bar but the last 3 years we’ve eaten. The refurb looks stunning, it was already a nice place to stop and have a drink on the roof terrace or in the bar but now it is a must stop! We had surf and turf, pork belly and red Thai curry. All were really good. Service excellent - professional but friendly. The best bit- dogs are allowed in most of the areas which makes it easy for us to dine out here. Try it, you won’t be disappointed!

This was our first visit since refurbishment. We went, without booking, for a Sunday evening meal and were pleased to be found a table in a busy restaurant. The views are simply magnificent. They must be one of the best in the world…yes, that good. The staff, mainly youngsters, perhaps from a local school, tried hard and were attentive and polite. However, it was rather noisy with a child crying for at least some of the time. The muzac was too loud, which inevitably encourages loud conversation. My wife’s meal was changed without notification or consultation and appeared without one menued item. Some of mine was tepid, the rest cold. The beef was not pink. To their credit when they discovered it was my birthday they waived the charge for 2 glasses of wine, which was of course much appreciated. Would I go again? Everyone deserves at least a second chance.

Fantastic breakfast! We are local to St Ives and try get to the newly refurbished Pedn Olva for breakfast whenever we can. The breakfast rolls are great wonderful with a stunning view to match over St Ives bay. The food is always fresh, delicious, and perfectly cooked & the coffee is great. Crystal and Louise are incredibly friendly and attentive, both are reals credits to the Pedn Olva and a great advert for the place. Their prescence always makes the experience extra special. Highly recommended to anybody whether you’re a couple, have children or dogs.

Wow! What a stay! The hotel was beautiful with the most amazing views and added little touches. We couldn’t get over the beautiful room and view from many locations. We will definitely be back. We had a lovely evening meal. Food was delicious. There was a small mix up with our starters but the servers couldn’t have done more to make sure everything was sorted. The sticky toffee pudding was the best I have ever had! Drinks menu extensive with some unique touches. Thank you for a lovely stay. We will be returning.

The Rising Sun is a charming pub located in Truro, offering an intimate gastropub setting with a focus on local and seasonal fare. The a la carte menu features upscale Cornish seafood and meat dishes, including their renowned ale-battered fish and chips served with homemade tartar sauce and crushed peas. Despite its proximity to the city center, the pub exudes a wonderfully rural atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy an award-winning menu and a great selection of beverages in this dog-friendly establishment.
Good Lord the roasts are great! Gravy is the best I’ve ever tasted and this roast was up with the very best in the UK!

Not as good as expected if other peoples reviews are to be taken into consideration. We being 3 people had 2 beef which were overpowered by the smoked element of the cooking process which left an aftertaste in my mouth and a lamb which was nice with no issues. The beef was also very fatty, I know that chefs say fat is flavour but we found it too much in our opinion and we had the cauliflower cheese which was very good. The service was below par as had to ask for spoons to serve up the separate vegetables and cauliflower cheese but only got one, I know we could have asked for more but at these prices we shouldn’t have to. Also no horseradish or mint sauce was produced and again had to ask for them although they are stated on the menu as part of each dish. The table water wasn’t chilled which from the tap is a bonus in masking the chemicals in it. Had 2 puddings which were very nice. I don’t think we will go again anytime soon and if we do it’ll be for the general menu. The pub itself is very quaint and a lovely atmosphere. Possibly just an off day maybe but again at these prices it shouldn’t happen. FOOD 3 SERVICE 3 ATMOSPHERE 5

We had a lovely meal here last week with the steak special on Friday. The food was great, a sharer for two with a sauce each and two sides each. The portion was very generous! The puddings were delicious (rhubarb panacotta dish pictured) We went with our daughter and dog and it was a great venue for both of them

Dined at The Rising Sun for my birthday dinner with my husband and dog whilst holidaying nearby. Definitely up there as one of the best pubs or restaurants I’ve eaten at. Food was delicious, wine list fantastic and service 10/10. Highly recommend and will definitely be back if we’re in the area again.

Came in for a Sunday roast this evening. We sat on the tables outside. The waiter came out and gave us our menus and then forgot about us! We were left for 25 mins so I went in and politely asked ‘have you forgotten about us?’ To which he replied ‘yes’ and was apologetic, said he’d give us a side of cauliflower cheese for free. Meal came and that was nice enough, roast potatoes as tough as old boots though! Then waited further 15 mins for our plates to be cleared and to ask for dessert menu! At this point my mum was getting frustrated. I ordered a latte, it never came. When the bill came the latte was still on there so had to get that taken off. All in all a sense of no management whatsoever., and like the staff didn’t care or had had enough. I’d guess there was no manager on this evening. The young girl waiting on tables alongside the guy with the thumb ring, she was sweet but lacked any clear customer service skills, we had to ask for spoons to serve the vegetables. Honestly, the service was just so not up to scratch. The food wasn’t great, wouldn’t return. The waiting staff were all giggling and chatting behind the bar when I went in to see if they’d forgotten us. Have fun at work, of course, but not if it means you forget what you are actually supposed to be doing! Only go if you’ve got loads of time, don’t mind having to pester them to serve you!

I have been to the Rising Sun multiple times for drinks but last week finally we went there for a date night. We had a lovely seating. The service was outstanding. But the highlight was the food. It started with the outstanding parmesan and chorizo bread rolls which were so delicious. We then ordered the scallops for starters - which was fresh, and delicious. For mains, we had the duck and 10-hr lamb. Both were outstanding but we were in love with the lamb. For dessert, we went with the trifle. Each dish was delicious. We had tried multiple times to book a Sunday roast here but for our lack of prior planning, we thought a dinner would be a good idea and we were absolutely right!!

Blink and you will miss this place but it would be a big mistake Dropped in here for a quick bite to eat- wow Fish of the day, spectacular Ate in Jamie's 15 at Watergate 3 nights ago, was on par with that- it was that good Update 7 years later and still fantastic I hear the owners are moving on which is s tragedy as the food and service is simply top draw

A nice meal, I had catch of the day with fondant potato, which happened to be hake. It was very nice, service was good, arrived quick enough. Only reason it's 4 star not 5 is that the portion was too small for the price charged. The hake portion was very small, and the meal wasn't rich enough to get away with such a small amount. The duck on the other hand seemed to be a decent portion. The panacotta was very good.

Seafood restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of St. Ives, By The Sea Seafood & Chips & Takeaway offers a delightful dining experience that captures the essence of classic British fare. While it may not boast ocean views, its diner-like ambiance is complemented by an impressive menu featuring some of the best fish and chips around—locals rave about their crispy chips! With two locations in St.
The best sea food I’ve ever eaten in the UK. Everything was extremely delicious. Especially the fish soup. Even the salad was delicious. Simon(the cook) was very welcoming. He was very helpful with our diet preferences. We eat halal and he made sure to cook the fish in separate containers. I’ll definitely visit again.

If you're expecting 'chip shop chips' then I'd recommend going elsewhere as the restaurant have changed their chip offering to a seemingly overcooked french fry. Fairly disappointing to get home and open our first fish and chips by the sea and find fish and fries. The fish was great though
Brightman F — Google review
I could say By The Sea the best seafood restaurant in Cornwall! They recommended us to choose plaice fish which was the best of the best! It’s our first time to taste this fish. We ordered lobster XL size while they told us there’s only L size. Very honest person! The lobster was delicious with salt and garlic. Scallops were juicy with sauces. Crab salad was fresh and fruitful. All the prices are reasonable. Environment and atmosphere are clean and fresh. We will surely come again when visiting Saint Ives next time.

I am muslim & the chef asked if we wanted our fish & chips fried separately in a gluten free oil. Thank you so much to everyone.

My husband and I searched for some good seafood places and found this one on google. It’s a nice and medium sized place away from most of the hustle of St Ives harbour but just a short distance walk. Food was really good. We ordered 3 starters and 1 main and two drinks. We were full and all the dishes were yummy! Defo recommend.

Wonderful fish & chips! The cod was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside, and the prawns were fresh and full of flavor — both were absolutely delicious. The portions were generous and everything was served piping hot. The service was also very well-organized and friendly, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for great seafood and classic fish & chips!
Crystal J — Google review
The food is absolutely top quality and generous portions. The batter is light and crisp, the fish was perfectly cooked. Their chicken tenders are real chicken pieces breaded and deep fried, the chilli squid is a must try. Their chips may not be the traditional chip shop chips, but also not to be missed.
