Fine dining restaurant
Mexican restaurant
Los Danzantes is a popular restaurant located in the heart of Oaxaca's downtown, offering a modern take on Mexican and Oaxacan cuisine. The restaurant is known for its housemade mezcales, cocktails, and seasonal dishes served in a charming indoor/outdoor setting. What sets Los Danzantes apart is its extensive vegetarian and vegan options that highlight local, seasonal ingredients from nearby farms.
Absolutely beautiful restaurant, fantastic food, and my server Luis was one of the best. The tuna tartare tostadas (pictured) were one of the best things I've ever eaten, I almost cried. Good value as well for what you're getting. Can't recommend it enough!
Dan — Google review
The service and atmosphere were excellent, but the food was deeply disappointing. We came for the special Día de los Muertos tasting menu, and unfortunately not a single dish impressed us. The mole was overly sweet, the kale salad was dry and underdressed (it looked like it came straight out of the bag), the soup was bland, the octopus was soggy, and the meat was completely flavorless. I’ve had far better and more flavorful meals from street vendors — a real letdown for a Michelin-starred restaurant, especially given the price of around $160 per person.
Carlos — Google review
We thoroughly enjoyed our recent dining experience. The server provided excellent recommendations and contributed significantly to the pleasant atmosphere. We were particularly impressed with their attentiveness throughout the evening. Our favorite dish, without a doubt, was the octopus. Make sure you make reservations well in advance.
Mary — Google review
Had made reservations way in advance as it’s one of the many Michelin in Oaxaca. Food was average. Not quite in line with the hype and the price in my opinion. We even tried the Chiles en Nogada, a colorful dish representing the Mexican flag. Did not quite wow me. The drinks and food were decent not memorable. Great ambience and good service for sure.
Ravi J — Google review
Just acceptable but not good. Unfortunately definitely not at Michelin star level. Portion sizing needs work, with many dishes being far too big. Mains were the weakest course, with our Mackerel lacking flavour and tasting too heavily of greasy butter. Mushroom lasagne was too big and lacking in flavour.
Nicholas P — Google review
Excellent choice recommended by Claude. I had aguachile, which was just so flavoursome and caldo, also incredibly tasty. Plus sitting on the dais I had a view over the place, perfect for a solo eater. Diana was a very kind and attentive waitress too. My first time eating grasshoppers and I think it will do it again!
Alessandro T — Google review
Our experience was disappointing for a Michelin star restaurant. The service wasn't on par with other restaurants, and the food lacked balance or taste. The butter was too sweet and the bread looked like airplane bread; the pork was cooked perfectly, but the sauce was very strong in taste and the purée way too sweet; the octopus was nothing special, especially when it comes to what came with it (cherry tomatoes and sautéed potatoes). The beef tongue tacos and hoja santa were great.
Killian C — Google review
Disappointing Michelin Experience Visited for a special father-son graduation dinner - unfortunately, this restaurant falls far short of its Michelin star reputation. Service (1/5): Our waiter was indifferent from the moment we sat down. Barely audible when speaking, never once checked on our table during the meal, and carried himself as if serving us was an inconvenience. For a restaurant with Michelin recognition, this level of service is unacceptable. Food (2.5/5): Appetizers showed creativity and were well-executed - the carrot preparation was interesting and the banana croquette demonstrated technical skill, though they felt more like culinary experiments than crowd-pleasers. The mole chicken, supposedly their specialty, featured dry chicken breast that overshadowed what were admittedly good moles (particularly the red and black varieties). The second main - back ribs in black mole with apple puree and miniature bok choy - was competently prepared but nothing exceptional. Atmosphere (2/5): Peak pretentiousness from start to finish. The restaurant feels more focused on maintaining an image than delivering genuine hospitality or memorable food. Value (1/5): For Michelin-starred pricing, we expected much more. The experience felt like paying premium prices for average food with subpar service. We would have done much better with street food. Bottom Line: How this restaurant maintains a Michelin star is beyond comprehension. There are numerous restaurants in Oaxaca offering superior food, service, and authentic hospitality at better value. Save your money and celebration dinners for establishments that actually care about their guests (Quince Letras and Casa Oaxaca are exceptional food, service and overall value). Would not recommend or return.

Breakfast restaurant

Nestled in the heart of Oaxaca, El Escapulario is a charming little Mexican café that offers an array of traditional and vegetarian dishes, making it a must-visit for food enthusiasts. With its late hours and convenient takeout options, this cozy spot invites you to explore the rich flavors of Oaxacan cuisine. The menu features unique items like huitlacoche (corn smut) and mole negro, alongside adventurous choices such as chapulines (grasshoppers).
The restaurant is a modest setting like being in someone’s home for dinner, very cozy and we were lucky enough to sit by the window getting a great view. The staff were very friendly and very patient with us while we spoke broken Spanish. (Thank you!!) Finally, the food!! It was so good! One of the most authentic restaurants in Oaxaca! It’s so good that even locals were expecting us to have eaten there when we spoke with them! The menu even included traditional items like Chicatanus, which is seasonal (June-July) but a little tricker to find (at least it was for us) for those more adventurous!
Ben R — Google review
Went here to try manchamental and chichilo (both very hard to find), and it was incredible! The chichilo was duely somber, hearty, and mostly simple in flavor, with only very subtle complexity, and the vegitables and dough pieces complimented the tone of the dish brilliantly - enjoyable but not so pleasurable as to be inappropriate for a mourning family. The manchamantel was very lively, fruity, rich, bright, fun, and fairly spicy for a mole. And again, the other items in the dish complimented the mole brilliantly. The manchamantel is now my favorite of the 8 moles of Oaxaca, and the Chichilo is my significant other's favorite. The food was absolutely amazing, but do bear in mind, you will likely be waiting a while for your food. In my opinion though, it is well worth the wait! The decor is also fairly plain.
Eric — Google review
Absolutely loved our meal here! One of the best in Oaxaca and that's even comparing it to much fancier places with more accolades. Food tasted home made and the ambiance is casual, so the food took a while to come out, but worth it if you have time! Loved the Sopa de Conde and Mole Negro!
Nicholas P — Google review
Extremely good moles! Ordered the 5 sampler. Look at other reviews for types. Best traditional mole I’ve had yet! Big recommendation to come here. The combo also comes with drinks which is nice. It’s quite pricy though - see my menu photo. The 5 mole combo with rice and 2 beverages is 650MX. Worth it though!
Curtis Y — Google review
A quiet and sweet restaurant with some of the best moles I’ve ever had. The mole testing menu is a must try! My favorites were Coloradito, negro and rojo. The crema de chipolines is amazing. I loved the champurrado, the drink that I got which is a mix of corn and chocolate.
Maya B — Google review
Tried to go for dinner. They told us they were full. They told us to come back the next day around 2pm as a table wouldn't be a problem at that time.. We arrived shortly after 2pm the next day and they said come back in an hour. Then they never opened for lunch. Had to find another that offered the 7 mole sampler. Thankfully we found one.
Maria P — Google review
Excellent moles. The moles tasting is absolutely worth getting. The other standout is the crema chapulines. The chocolate drinks are also wonderful.

Amazing little gem in Oaxaca, diverse selection of moles. Location is also perfect, super central. Will come back here for sure!

Oaxacan restaurant
Mexican restaurant
Casa Oaxaca el Restaurante is a modern eatery in Mexico that offers organic Oaxacan dishes made with free-range meat and fresh vegetables. The restaurant provides a stylish patio setting for diners to enjoy their meals. It is part of an exclusive selection of restaurants featured in the Michelin Guide 2024, showcasing the best of Oaxacan cuisine from traditional roots to innovative interpretations.
We had our anniversary dinner at this beautiful restaurant and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. It began with fresh, handmade salsa, and ended with a surprise cake that made the night extra special. One moment that stood out to me was when one of the dishes we ordered was too salty for my taste. We let the staff know, and they immediately offered to replace it with something else. The new dish was absolutely delicious — much better than forcing myself to finish something I didn’t enjoy. I truly appreciated their hospitality and professionalism. The staff were incredibly polite and attentive throughout the evening.
YK F — Google review
This restaurant has a great atmosphere, good service, excellent plating and good dishes. We had the insect tostada which was great, duck (good, but needed more rendering on the fat), rabbit which was quite good, super tender short rib and a whole fish. All of the flavors were good, but nothing remarkable to want to return. Experience was quite good for a 1 time visit.
Hunter W — Google review
I arrived at the restaurant with relatively high expectations in light of the reviews and was further surprised to discover that the place had won a Michelin star for 2024, which raised my expectations even more. The prices are indeed expensive compared to Mexico. The starters were much less good than many other restaurants I've eaten at, we ordered ceviche which was the least tasty and quesadilla. The meat dishes were better, although small. In terms of service, I will say that there is a sense of haste and acceleration in clearing the table which was very unpleasant, the minimum is to ask before clearing a plate when we haven't finished eating and to take my glass when there is still water in the bottle on the table. The service really needs improvement!
Liana M — Google review
Food was tasty, but not what was expected from a Michelin place! Flavors were very similar to food you'd get outside, thus I'm questioning the price value! Portions were good and we didn't leave feeling hungry! Especially the salsa was great, made fresh at the table in front of you and customized to your liking! Unfortunately, I got food poisoning from the scallops, which symptoms almost caused me to be hospitalized! From what I read though, it's caused from a heat resistant algae toxin - so I'm assuming in good faith that the restaurant had no control over that and it's an isolated situation! The atmosphere was good... We were sat upstairs, outside and right by the church, so it was expected to be loud! The interior is beautifully decorated, very simple yet feels homey and Mexican. Service was decent... Staff was very friendly, but we were seldomly checked in on and occasionally had to call for assistance or to order! Perhaps normal in Mexico and just not what we're used to! Sadly not many spoke English, which of course generally isn't to be expected in another country, but would've been nice in a Michelin place! Translate app helped a lot! All in all it's a nice place and recommended for dinner, but don't know if I'd go out of my way to book again!
Shez E — Google review
In 2022 and 2023, this was a 4 star place. I came back in 2025, the quality of food dropped to a 3 star. It is surprising considering they got Michelin award in 2024. This just caused their prices to go up but food quality and presentation of the dishes got worse. I was looking forward to coming back after 2 great experiences in 2022 and 2023. This time Oct 2025, the food quality, food portion dropped while the prices went up 1.5 times. I'm sad to see this. But I can no longer recommend this place. 😕
Oriana K — Google review
The attentive staff clearly demonstrated remarkable attention to detail throughout our visit. Please note that this establishment prioritizes fresh preparation over speed, so allow ample time for your meal. The culinary creations were truly delicious and well worth the wait. We appreciated the dedication to quality evident in every aspect of the dining experience.
Mary — Google review
Overall it was a great experience with a beautiful view and some great dishes. One of my favorites was the “flor de calabaza” the “Turkey mole” and the Ribeye with great sides. They made a great salsa right on the table and the service was very good. The only thing why I didn’t give it 5 on food was due to food not arriving hot given that you’re on the terrace. If you like fine dinning this is the place.
Juancarlos S — Google review
Based on the reviews I expected this place to be style over substance or a victim of hype, but we had an exceptional meal here. Fresh ingredients, perfectly balanced flavours, attentive staff. Better in my view than other Michelin-recommended places in the city.

Oaxacan restaurant
Origen is a restaurant in Oaxaca that offers inventive global cuisine with a focus on regional produce. Chef Rodolfo Castellanos, a native of Oaxaca, showcases modern interpretations of traditional Oaxacan classics at Origen. Influenced by his upbringing and his mother's kitchen, Castellanos combines French training with Mexican culinary traditions to create unique dishes like octopus and sweetbread tlayuda.
The one place our friends that live in Oaxaca said was a must, and they were right! Delicious food, friendly service and nice location. We came in for lunch after a hot day in the botanical garden and the courtyard at Origen was perfect with its airy atmosphere. With a refreshing beer in hand, we started with three appetizers and were blown away. The Fish Ceviche, Duck Enchiladas and Beef Tartare were amazing… so much so that we had another Ceviche as our entree. Our kids shared the Res-Tirada Rib-Eye and loved it! Great service and atmosphere, with authentic cuisine. Our favorite in Oaxaca so far! A+!
Inigo A — Google review
Had a great night at Origin! The cocktails were amazing — super creative and perfectly made. But the highlight was Pedro, our server. He went above and beyond, was incredibly kind, and made the whole experience feel special. Great service, great drinks — definitely coming back.
Mosh S — Google review
It is one of the best restaurants that I have in Oaxaca. Relaxing vibe, excellent food and good service. The waitress explained each dish very well and recommended dishes to customers have certain restrictions. No rush and can really enjoy the food and vibe. Highly recommended to try beef tongue with chichilo mole, the spice and salt just balanced very well and would make you want to keep eating. They change menu seasonally.
Sharon L — Google review
This place came highly recommended and we were looking forward to the rib eye steak for lunch. First the good: the potato appetizer was the best dish. The drinks were good. I had the soda of the day- mango passion fruit with seltzer water. My short rib dish was delicious, but not what I expected— a bowl with cous cous, veggies, and bits of ribs in a delicious sauce. I expected whole ribs. Now the issues: service was very slow with little personality, especially at these prices; The New York steak was over cooked. The setting in a courtyard was basic and we were swarmed with flies once the food came. Also, the restaurant was poorly responsive by OpenTable message, phone, and What’s App to modify our reservation. I had to go to the restaurant to make the change. Overpriced. I have a feeling it used to be better.
Joel H — Google review
Their mole dish was something that I have never tasted before. So much flavor and good decoration. Great service as well
Hyeonghun K — Google review
Origen was the best meal we’ve had in Oaxaca, and we’ve tried a lot during our time here. The food was outstanding, beautifully prepared, and full of flavour. We went during the week when it was quieter and even had the chance to chat with Chef Rudolfo, who was generous with his time and insight. Our waiter, Ignacio, was fantastic—attentive, friendly, and explained the menu perfectly in English, which made the whole experience even smoother. Highly recommend Origen to anyone visiting Oaxaca. Five stars all the way.
Louis K — Google review
Service was impeccable. Cocktails were delicious. Food was ... okay. Nothing was bad, but nothing was particularly good either. Maybe I came on an off night or ordered the wrong dishes? I had the tasting menu, where you order one of each course, and had the molote, scallop taco, fish, and chocolate taco. They were all just fine. At this point I've been to all the big fine dining restaurants in Oaxaca, and this was my least favorite.
L B — Google review
Despite our attempts to communicate in Spanish the staff spoke better English and was very keen to help us understand the menu and some of the cooking process. The food was very nice, Mexican, and elevated to a fine dining level. They were very helpful substituting ingredients that we had allergies against and replaced meat dishes for one of the party members who only eat fish. Would highly recommend this place if you are in the market for high quality Mexican food.

The restaurant is led by renowned chefs Enrique Olvera and Luis Arellano, offering refined dishes in a beautifully designed space with a relaxed, open-air vibe.
Magical. What a treat of a restaurant in Oaxaca. This tasting menu venue has unbelievable service, a gorgeous venue with an open sky in center, unbelievable service, and wow the food was incredible. I don’t know how this place is not Michelin. And we did a tasting menu with alcohol pairing and the total was under $150/person, to me that’s less than half the price of a similar tasting menu without the alcohol! The food was truly incredible, the dinner lasted 2.5 hours, the beverage liquor pairing wasn’t just wine, it was beer cocktails truly a fun dinner. I couldn’t recommend Criollo enough. If you come to Oaxaca this is the most visit restaurant.

Fantastic tasting menu with unique and local flavors and large portions. I was very pleased with this restaurant - the courtyard is cute and cozy and the server was helpful and friendly. My favorites were the soft shell crab taco, sea bass, and salad with salmon roe. I was also able to easily modify the tasting menu to be pescetarian friendly.
Chris B — Google review
We enjoyed dining here very much! We first came here on a tour with Omar and then came back for lunch. The setting is gorgeous in the middle of a garden. You have chickens running around under your feet and it’s quite endearing while we were here. One of the staff lit up some leaves and walked the smoking leaves all through the restaurant in a ceremonial manner. We only had a couple of dishes for lunch but they were delicious and had great portions.
Nicky J — Google review
The food is a mix of creativity, native flavours and innovation. You are in for a treat when it comes to the drinks and food. The 6 course meal begins very strong with some of the most amazing apatizers I've ever had. Everything is thoughtfully put together and arrives fresh and warm. The only disappointment of this meal was the workers serving it. They aren't excited about the ingredients, they seem rehersed when talking about the complexity of each dish. It's a shame to have a kitchen work so hard on this incredible meal, and have very dry personalities precenting it. The staff was just not friendly at all. You feel like you are intruding by being there. At one point we poked our heads to check out the amazing bar. We were given uncomfortable looks. This would have been a good opportunity for someone to invite us over to the bar on a different occasion or explained more of the concept. We went when the restaurant was quiet and had only a few other tables. They had a lot of staff standing around. I think that with an incredible menu you need to have people who are also passionate about precenting it to you.
Azucena K — Google review
10/10 - this place is great! on the pricier side but in my opinion totally worth it if you’re looking for a delicious oaxacan upscale meal! we went to pujol a week prior and almost thought this was better. each course was a delight, perfectly timed and they were very accommodating of dietary restrictions.

Fantastic original gourmet food, gorgeous location, great staff. Was a little more expensive but totally worth it. I had the egg taco- inside was an over easy egg- delicious.

Beautiful Interiors, HORRIFIC HYGIENE The biggest disappointment of our Oaxaca trip. We booked brunch, but on arrival were told only expensive set menus were available. After showing our booking, they reluctantly provided the regular menu. I ordered a local slow-cooked meat dish that took ages to arrive, and when I made a first bite, I ended up with a long thick black hair in my mouth. I am blonde with short hair so there was no doubt about the nature of that hair. The waiters were in a bit of a shock and dish was replaced, but there was no apology or acknowledgment from management for such a serious hygiene issue. Beautiful interiors, but overall unacceptable service and standards. I do not recommend this place.

The restaurant is cozy with a nice atmosphere and the food is fresh and well-prepared. But if compared with other restaurants, this one didn’t impress too much. Service was friendly. Good spot to try, but not one I’d rush back to.

Concha rellena was to die for!! The best one I tried. 😋 Has a nice selection of brunch food. Unfortunately the coffee machine was not working the day we went but our overall experience was really nice. Has a nice small patio. Service was friendly as well.

This place was pretty cutesy and perky. Sorry I couldn't think of any other words. There's a bar at the front and the inside is very colorful and, well, perky. I felt like there were more tourists here than other restaurants I'd tried before in the area. The waitress that was serving us seemed a little timid but was still very friendly. We learned the hard way that you have to ask for your check and it was kind of hard to get ahold of her but it's okay. We ordered a potato and leek soup, a tiramisu, and a chocolate tomale. The soup and tiramisu were amazing! The tomale wasn't my favorite but it was still alright. We also got the best chai ever, an iced hibiscus tea, and some fruity mango drink. Came for a late lunch when I first arrived in Oaxaca and it was phenomenal. My Spanish is not great (I can somewhat communicate) and they were super flexible in communication. They had vegan options and I left so full! Would definitely recommend.

This is hands down the best meal we have had in Oaxaca. We shared the strawberry salad that had smoked cheese, seeds and a delicious guava dressing (I got too excited and forgot a picture). I had the mole which was made with guava and it was super yummy. My husband had the tlayuda with beef and it was on a blue tortilla (the best). This is a must go to! We previously ate at Michelin restaurants and this food even better. And and amazing price point too.

What a hidden gem! We stumbled upon this place walking down the street looking for a spot to have a nice dinner. The food is fresh and delicious. We shared the chili nogada and tuna entrée. The Mescalita was Perfection. The café is adorable and the service is really attentive and welcoming. We liked it so much. We came back the very next day for lunch and we shared the avocado toast with mushrooms. The portions are very generous and the price is very inexpensive for what you are getting. The quality is exceptional. I will definitely come back on my next visit if not again during this trip!

Lovely first meal in Oaxaca centro. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was impeccable. It is not a place for a rushed meal. I had the green juice which was very nutritious and different because it had nopales which gave some texture, a local kombucha and the agua del dia as part of the lunch menu. The kombucha and guava flavored water of the day were really amazing. For the menu of the day, it was a lovely vegetable soup with seasonal ingredients, such as Aztec broccoli and squash blossoms, a main course of a simple grilled chicken breast, salad with passionfruit dressing and fruit and rice. Finished it off with an incredible creampuff with fruit. For just US$20, this was quite a deal and I was there enjoying the atmosphere for a while. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a lovely group outing or just a solo traveler enjoying!

This top bar is renowned for its focus on mezcal, boasting an impressive selection of craft drinks that highlight the versatility of Oaxaca's beloved spirit. Absolutely delicious and interesting cocktails. We had a few different styles of tacos which were all amazing. And traditional Oaxacan starter with mole. Very happy with it all. Great service and nice vibe of the place too.

Overall great atmosphere and drinks. We didn’t eat food, but this place did come recommended by many. It was our second favourite cocktail bar in Oaxaca, but still highly recommend visiting for the delicious drinks, large bar offering and service. Atmosphere was fun and energetic, and seemed to be the most populated cocktail bar later into the evening.

Excellent drinks, food and service. The waitress arranged an impromptu Mezcal tasting for us with smaller glasses.

The Food was delicious! Had the vegetarian tacos and they were so delicious. The molotes were also delicious! Honestly everything was so fresh and good. And the Mushroom soups was so fresh and tasty. Never had anything like it but it was 10/10! But the star of the show was the dessert. We had the corn cake. Omg. It was like nothing I’ve ever tasted but it was so moist and fresh! Definitely would return. Great customer service and atmosphere!

I stopped by here with just a few hours to spare before I needed to go to the airport. I had three cocktails, each one better than the next, and the sirloin tacos were amazing. I was there pretty early (around 3 pm), so there wasn't much of a vibe, but my hotel was just across the street, so I do know that the place gets pretty lively in the evenings and I would recommend making a reservation if you're trying to go for dinner or evening drinks!

Restaurant
Levadura de Olla Restaurante in Oaxaca City has played a significant role in the resurgence of mezcal, once considered a humble drink. The restaurant offers an extensive selection of mezcal options, reflecting the city's newfound appreciation for this native spirit. Additionally, Levadura de Olla is celebrated for its exceptional Oaxacan cuisine, particularly its emphasis on mole dishes and inventive creations such as guacamole with chapulines (grasshoppers).
Levadure de Olla 1 Michelin star so big expectations and high hopes! The entrances to the restaurant was decorated with old school cooking methods, corn, cacao, and various things that are found in Oaxaca cuisine. Excellent start. They have a beautiful table of endless variants of tomatoes, absolutely breath taking! When seated you’re started off with some tostada which was the best one we’ve eaten so far! And some delicious in house salsa Roja. Excellent snack! I personally came here for the famous tomato dish. (Jitomates nativos Oaxaquenõs, pure de betabel y vinagreta de frutas) And for the first time ever in all My reviews this is the first 10/10 dish. Beautiful presented, acidic, sweet, savoury. I couldn’t stop eating I almost ordered a second plate. The beetroot puree stunning and paired perfect with the variety of tomatoes. Some tasted like fruits, some were more ok the umami side, some gave different textures. I’m gonna think about this plate for a long time… wow We also got the Tamale ( Tamal de requesón) 9.1/10 Once again everything on the plate played a part and paired perfectly! Very thoughtful and showing oaxacas mole in a delicate way! Visually stunning as well. Huge recommend, and not unreasonably priced.

This restaurant is something different in the culinary world of Oaxaca, and you can feel it as soon as you walk in. The food is great, with elaborate and profound tastes. Their dishes are surprising, which make this place stand out above other more standard restaurants. The serving is also very beautiful and meticulously thought of. They have a great variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Service is terrific, very attentive, waiters are very professional and ask about allergies and special requests regarding ingredients. Oaxaca has great street and market food, but in the restaurant category this was our best experience.

From start to end it was a great experience. We liked the unique decor of the restorant so much. The tomatoes showplace was so impressive. Never seen so many tomatoes together. The dishes were all tasty. We had tomatoes salad, fried Quesadillas with fish and mole shrimps. Our waiter was very informative. He spoke really good English. The chocolate dessert and the burnt Milk dessert were both soo good.

Just had dinner here and didn’t even realize it was a Michelin-rated restaurant! I happened to see that it was mentioned from a few people online and I booked it solely based on the fact that it had many vegan options. I was immensely surprised how veg-forward the menu is, and coming in with no expectations, I was blown away by the tomato dish. What a ballsy move for a chef to present a dish based on just tomatoes and beets, but on closer inspection it’s not just a simple tomato salad, it’s 14 varieties of endemic tomatoes of Oaxaca. If people don’t appreciate how complex this dish is (and how the back can easily goof up such a simple dish), then they shouldn’t be dining in this restaurant. The yellow mole was understated and beautiful with the delicious chickpeas. The squash dish was delicate and still had depth at the same time with its puréed base. Alex was our server and he was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable in answering our questions. The whole restaurant was very comfortable and we felt very relaxed with the hospitality. After dinner we had the privilege to get a tour of the back kitchen and after viewing the various rooms, and reading some of the reviews, I’d have to say that people who write shallow google reviews of this place do not understand the work involved in keeping a kitchen this pristine. I was beyond honoured to have also met the chef who’s a woman! Kudos to her for representing amazing Oaxacan cuisine and thank you for displaying vegan options and showing off the delicious seasonal vegetables Oaxaca has to offer.

The food and especially the service was outstanding. We actually felt like someone was hosting us at his/her home and not like a random guest at a restaurant. We received explanations to all dishes and never packed anything. Also the Ambiente is very nice due to the patio. Would definitely come back when visiting Oaxaca again.

There are a lot of amazing food options in Oaxaca. This, of all the spots we’ve tried, was our favorite. Incredibly well priced for amazing food, service, and ambience. There’s no where you can go wrong on the menu (get a drink with passion fruit! and don’t skip dessert!). The guacamole with a variety of avocados was amazing. Javier was an incredible server. Will recommend this spot over and over again.
Katherine H — Google review
The staff is very kind and helpfull, the hype about the tomatoes is worth it. We took the guacamole with grasshoppers and the ceremonial mole. As desserts the corn bread and apple tamale. They were all good. Why did I gave only 4 stars instead of 5? We are coming from Europe so a lot of flavours in Mexico are new to us. Alltough it was really good, we weren't more amazed then in a normal restaurant. And in a normal restaurant we paid more like 250 pesos in total and here we paid 1500 pesos. Which still is afforable and you get good food for that price, don't get me wrong! It was our first michelin star experience, and I guess it's the perfect place to do it! So if you never had a michelin experience and would like to give it a try: Go for it! If you love fine dining and a very pretty surrounding: Go for it! BUT: make a reservation!!
Elodie V — Google review
Simply food was amazing! All the dishes ordered were way beyond expectations. Perhaps, this is why they achieved a Michelin star while the sister restaurant in CDMX couldn't. Unfortunately, the server wasn't as attentive as I anticipated. He spoke fluent English but I felt like a tape recording was playing at 1.2X speed. He did his job, but most customers will expect a little more from waiting staff. We ended up in a typical courtyard-style dining area. It did the job but didn't wow us. Certainly, a power outage in the middle of the afternoon didn't help. Overall, I highly recommend you visit this restaurant. You won't be disappointed, and make sure you bring cash just in case of a blackout. 😊

La Teca is a small, unassuming restaurant located within the owner's home in Oaxaca City. It offers a taste of under-the-radar flavors from the southeast region of Tehuantepec, showcasing the diverse cuisine of Oaxaca. The dishes feature a combination of sweet and sour flavors, incorporating tropical ingredients like plantains with dry cheese and sour cream.
LaTeca offers incredibly authentic Oaxacan flavors. The mole rojo is absolutely amazing—rich, complex, and full of depth. The chicken breast was perfectly cooked, juicy, and came in a generous portion. While it’s just outside the main neighborhood, it’s only a short, inexpensive cab ride or a pleasant walk, making it well worth the visit. A hidden gem for anyone craving real Oaxacan cuisine.

Went here cause I saw from a tt that apparently the tamale was the best he tried. I ordered almost the same things that he mentioned and I was kind of disappointed. For starters was ordered the garnachas with the bolitas the queso. They were ok if I’m honest the sauce that they use is similar to chipotle so is was new to me. To my surprise I only received one bolita de queso, mind you it’s around the size of a rubber ball. I the ordered the stuffed plantain and again it was underwhelming. Next I ordered the elote tamal and I will say it was the best thing I had there but definitely not for those in search of something savory. The agua de tamarindo was very delicious I will say. Beautiful place and good customer service but overall I don’t recommend since it’s a little on the pricer side. Unless you are in search for very unique flavors

I ate at La Teca today and thoroughly enjoyed myself. They have indoor and patio seating. I'm not familiar with food from the Isthmus and the waiter quickly explained the different dishes. I had the Plato Istmeño. It is one of the most expensive dinners at $200 pesos but it had chicken, potatoes, cabbage, plantain, three garnaches and a chili relleno. I asked for a friend who doesn't eat pork and the garnaches and chili relleno both use beef. I had a nice dessert and my bill was $285 including a drink. I plan on returning.

Nestled in the lively Xochimilco neighborhood of Oaxaca, Ancestral Cocina Tradicional is a charming eatery that pays homage to authentic Oaxacan culinary practices. Simply fabulous. The ambience was so lovely, beautiful garden setting. Wonderful gentleman playing the saxophone. Such a nice touch. Service was outstanding! A good explanation of the menus items. The foot was over the top. We ordered 3 different entrees and they were all delicious. The short ribs and molè sauce won!

Had an excellent dinner at ancestral. I was craving some mole and this place came recommend. There’s several to choose from such a mole negro, yellow, and red. I asked my waiter which he recommend and ultimately went with the short rib with red mole. The red mole was delicious, I’m glad I got a side of tortillas to soak up the last of the mole. The short rib was cooked very well too. The roasted vegetables that came with the meat were delicious as well. It included carrots, corn, zucchini and cauliflower. The cauliflower was pretty bland but the rest of the vegetables were tasty. You must get the mole ice cream. Super unique and delicious. The dessert is served with a plantain and mole sauce as well as the ice cream. They serve complimentary tostadas, salsa and feta cheese. This was nothing special. The salsa was not very good and the feta cheese was an odd touch in my opinion. You can skip this is and save room for your entree and dessert.

This is the best food place in Oaxaca as far as I’m concerned! Of course, I have not tried all of them, but whatever we had here was completely extraordinary. Service was very good , and the atmosphere was relaxing and pleasant. Highly recommended for flavors that will blow your mind! To walk off all that deliciousness , check the nearby murals in the neighborhood after dinner.

We had a good experience here. The service was excellent and friendly. Drinks were good too. The food was good, though it wasn’t to my liking. I felt the mole lacked a bit of depth of flavor to it. Their famous tacos of shrimp and tripa are good but I really don’t like tripa so we didn’t enjoy that at all. We left it at that and didn’t want to try other dishes. If you’re not deeply familiar with Mexican cuisine these details will probably not bother you and you’ll probably have a good time and a great meal. I wouldn’t go back based on the two dishes we ate.

Such a peaceful restaurant! I came here around 2PM when it first opened and there was no one - very much felt like a private dining experience. I was alone so I was limited in how much I could order and I feel I still over ordered because I could not finish my main course. That said, everything was AMAZING! If you want slightly elevated traditional Oaxaca food - this is the spot. Definitely get the guacamole and cheese and the black mole with chicken. The guacamole came with this hot sauce that was honestly so good i wish i could have taken a whole bottle home. Divine!

I had the most incredible dining experience at this restaurant in Oaxaca. The tomato salad with quesillo was outstanding — fresh, full of flavor, and beautifully balanced with the creamy richness of the local cheese. Even more unforgettable was the mole with octopus. The mole was deep, complex, and perfectly seasoned, while the tender octopus made it truly unique and extraordinary. The atmosphere was authentic and welcoming, and the service attentive yet relaxed, making the entire evening feel special. This restaurant captures the very essence of Oaxacan cuisine — bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and dishes prepared with heart. If you’re looking for an authentic and memorable culinary experience in Oaxaca, this place is an absolute must 🙂

The drinks are delicious! The food was good. The aguachilles were good, but there was one or two shrimp that had a taste I didn't like. My husband l liked them. They do not have any chile. The salmon risotto was good. It cane with veggies and bread. The salmon had a good taste, and the skin was on the side like a chicharrón and was delicious. The salmon was overcooked for my taste, not dry, but had a strong salmon taste. The staff is kind and friendly but not very attentive. They are quick when you ask for things, but you have to ask for them. We did go at the end of the day, so maybe they were just tired? Walked here on a Tuesday afternoon without a reservation. The pitcher of juice and basket of bread came complementary to the table. We both got a salad and soup. The salad did not have enough dressing but the carrot soup was delicious. My partner got the steak and I got the chicken. The steak was bland but the chicken had an incredible amount of flavor from the savory, sweet, and tangy sauce. It's too bad the salad has so little dressing because that was the only fiber in the meal. For dessert they gave us free jello. The place was good but not worth making a trip for. There were a good amount of locals also dinning here. The meal came out to MX$245 for two people.

Liked the outdoor setting. The service was fast and the waitress was very attentive. Coffee was the only thing that disappointed me but it was your regular Mexican coffee included and it is refillable. So people can see the value there.

Food was ok not very memorable. When i sat down the waiter brought out a complimentary plate of Papaya with cream cheese-- O didn't eat it as I am not a fan of Pappaya. I ordered the chef speciaof the day Eggs with Chorizo and Gouda cheese. The plate came with carrots and a xicama salad which i felt was refreshing. The highlight for me was the pickled onions and yellow chiles on the table. Next to that was a red salsa that is a little spicy. They also brought out freshly made Tortillas with the eggs. Service was fantastic however a little slow since it was the Sunday morning rush. Atmosphere was very family oriented, with people conversating, laughing and enjoying each other's company. Price was good as it felt less expensive than restaurants in the Center Oaxaca. I would go back again for dinner to try the other parts of the menu.

This is my favourite market in Oaxaca, offering many authentic local food and fresh fruits. We bought tamale, tejate, champurrado, dominion bananas, guavas, mangoes, papaya, huitlacoche(corn smut), and we enjoyed them all. The market opens early around 7am. I would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Oaxaca.
Coco — Google review
I love this market! Comparing to 20 de Noviembre, this market is less tourist-target, more localized. And this market is more bright and clean. Super recommend Tamales geno! Their tamales is really good! But to-go only.
Jo A — Google review
Got some cool juices and chocolate atole here. Atole isn't my favorite but others like it. Good for an in-depth, raw experience of Oaxacan life.
Emily G — Google review
Very nice, I can buy most of the things I need there. At times it can be a bit crowded. The restaurant area has good food at good prices.
Terry C — Google review
This is my go-to market for groceries, daily juice, anything I may need for the house and snacks and things. I frequent here for all of my fruits and veggies, honey, cheese, herbs, snacks, juice, kitchen items, trashbags, you name it...you can most likely find it there. They have meats, bread, mole, flowers, all kinds of stuff. Definitely worth the trip. Don't hesitate, just go and get some beautiful produce, have a meal, and take some juice to go!

Nestled in a charming historical building, Glück is a vegan café that truly captures the essence of plant-based dining with its meticulous attention to detail. Each dish and even the cups are adorned with delightful printed quotes in Spanish, adding a unique touch to your meal. The atmosphere is inviting and serene, making it an ideal spot for those looking to unwind while enjoying healthy fare.
This spot is amazing—it really is. I loved everything I tried, but the avocado toast (something I don’t often order) was incredible! The sandwich and Buddha bowl were great too. They also offer a range of healthy juices and shots. The space is cute and quaint, spacious and beautiful. The staff is super friendly and engaging. They have gorgeous playing and presentation of the food, and some dishes even include tiny bouquets and uplifting notes. I loved it. One of the best meals I had in Oaxaca. Update: I came back after 3 months away and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. The avocado toast they served me this go around had a beet purée that was quite nice. They’re certainly consistent, that’s a fact!

There are not many vegan places open for breakfasts in Oaxaca. Some restaurants we tried were disappointing. So far the Gluck is the best place we stayed at for breakfast and lunch in Oaxaca and we are definitely coming back. Delicious food, friendly staff and central location. Amazing!
Konstantin L — Google review
The food here is INCREDIBLE, so beautifully presented and delicious too. I had the vegan shrimp tacos and I would definitely recommend them, great flavours and textures, and so colourful! Also, the staff are so friendly and helped me with recommendations of how to spend my time in Oaxaca City. I would give more stars if I could!
Bianca M — Google review
My favorite place for breakfast / brunch / coffee in Oaxaca. The staff is so kind, the place amazing, nice decoration. The coffee and the Horchata Cafe are the best in the all historic center so far. It always comes with little attention and details, like a message for your day and flower. I highly recommend this place!
Océane R — Google review
This restaurant is made for vegan tourists. It's on the pricier side of vegan restaurants and mainly American-style comfort food (think deep fried dishes). Limited menu and small portions for what you pay for, but you are paying for the chic atmosphere, beautiful pottery, and friendly service. Food and drinks come with a cute inspirational message. "Shrimp" tacos and the burger were our favorites. Buddha bowl came with white rice and wasn't particularly special, but seemed like it was the healthiest entree.

We absolutely LOVED Gluck! It’s all vegan, fresh, and flavorful. The space is beautiful, artful, airy and inspiring. The good fortunes that come with drinks and food are such a nice touch. We loved the positive vibes here and totally recommend it!

I just arrived in Oaxaca, put my stuff down in hotel, and came straight here for lunch. Sooooo good, very healthy, and fresh! I got a good oat milk iced coffee, juice, and the memelas! The service is perfect and they are really nice. Even gave me a map of the city with other vegan places and sights!

El Chapulín Restaurant Oax is a must-visit dining spot in Oaxaca, known for its delicious stone broth and excellent service. It's recommended to make reservations in advance to avoid long waits. The restaurant offers a variety of local and international dishes, all prepared with care. Guests can enjoy watching the preparation of the famous caldo de piedra while being attended by friendly and attentive staff.
Tucked away from the what can be a very busy city on the weekends is this little oasis. After climbing the stairs to this beautiful terrace your taste buds will be thankful that you came here. I was greeted warmly by the staff and as I gazed around from the rooftop I hope that I would be as delighted with the food as I was with the setting. My delight was surpassed. The service I received was better than most restaurants I have visited. Friendly, helpful and happy to answer any questions. Being in Oaxaca I had to try Chipulines which turn out to be the best snack to have with a cold beer. I also ordered the quesadillas with pumpkin blossom, the taco with mushrooms and of course, mole. This time packed full of oaxacan cheese. I am so very happy that I visited this wonderful spot and I’ll definitely come back before I leave Oaxaca. Do yourself a huge favor and come here for five star food and service.
G P — Google review
Intimate restaurant with a friendly staff and delicious food. This was my favorite Molé in Oaxaca. The stone soup was also delicious. They have a full bar with a large drink menu. Located on the rooftop terrace. Go thru the front entrance and up the metal staircase to the rooftop. Take a left turn and up a few more stairs and you are there!
Kipp — Google review
We were a little unsure about this spot despite the good reviews mainly because the climb to the restaurant feels like you might be in the wrong place. But walk up all the steps, past some guest rooms, around a defunct hot tub, up another short flight of steps, and you will find a charming roof-top spot with authentic foods, great drinks, and a friendly and attentive staff. Our waiter was hustling to keep the food moving and to keep the guests happy. We went mainly for the grasshopper tlayuda (though we had other things) and it did not disappoint. It was a quintessential part of our Oaxaca experience, and watching them cook it over the coals was a fun bonus too.
Stephen C — Google review
Great restaurant that served a lot of vegetarian/vegan options. We got the empanada, tacos, and enchilada de moles negro. The mole was the highlight for sure, I recommend it. We were a little unsure of the location but it’s down a little passage and up the stairs you can see from the road.
Will M — Google review
A hidden little place in a crowded area, located in the terrace. Food was delicious, great flavor and the waiter and chef were were very attentive and friendly.
Claudia T — Google review
This place is a real gem! An amazing little terrace, friendly staff, and WHAT A MENU! We tried their specialty: el caldo de piedra—a flavorful broth with shrimp and fresh fish. The dish is cooked by boiling it with hot rocks sourced from a specific river. It was absolutely delicious! Their fresh guacamole (with chapulines 🦗) and aguachile verde were also insanely good. You definitely don’t want to miss this place if you’re looking for an authentic Oaxacan experience!
DC S — Google review
The food was so good! Glad we saw this place on google because it was a hidden gem! The street entrance is a little hard to find and when we ate there it was empty (6pm on a Thursday) which had us totally surprised because the food and service was so good. Our group got the guac with chapulines, the aguachiles de maracuyá, enmoladas, sopa de piedra, and the molcajete and every single thing was delicious! Definitely give this place a chance
Kenia F — Google review
Yes, the food is outstanding! The service is friendly. The guacamole is made to order, by hand, not in a blender and not spicy. They have flavorful salsas to accompany and spice it up if you like. The shrimp "aguachile" is authentic, with plenty of fresh shrimp. We also had an empanada of mole amarillo, which was excellent. The menu is fairly diverse, and this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. Their chapulines are quite good, too. We're coming back again to try the "Caldo de Piedra" and will update the review.

Tacos ROY is a popular local chain with multiple locations in the city, including Valerio Trujano and Abasola/Pino Suarez. The standout dish here is the pozole, but the tacos are also highly recommended. Visitors rave about the Oaxacan cheese used in the tacos, particularly enjoying options like rib, pastor, and skirt steak. The restaurant has a standard atmosphere and can be a bit slow to open at times.
So you like tacos eh?! Well this is a good place to pacman your way to your heart's content. They offer a good variety of tacos, but ya gotta arrive early especially if you like special viscerals and meats. The atmosphere varies depending on the location.
Roman R — Google review
This taco spot in Oaxaca quickly became our favorite! The place is simple, yet the menu offers a great variety, and the service is warm and friendly. The only downside is that in the evening, you might have to wait in line for a table. However, when we went again right after opening, we had no trouble finding a seat. My personal favorite was the quesadilla with cheese and ham, while my husband loved the bistec tacos. If you're in Oaxaca and craving delicious tacos, this place is definitely worth a visit!
Arnita H — Google review
Tacos are the best tacos in town. Would recommend. We waited in line for about 45 minutes and it was worth it. Fast service, and somewhat friendly. But it’s understandable because this place is extremely busy.
Kenia R — Google review
Super good tacos! Fast and friendly service. Even helping me with my horrible Spanish. Definitely recommend and I’ll be returning.
Slang 4 — Google review
This place is absolutely worth the hype, and you know it’s actually great because instead of a long queue of influencer types waiting for aesthetic pics, you may get a queue but it’s mostly locals with some curious foodie tourists in the mix. The menu is all in Spanish so maybe look it up online if you don’t want to feel confused on arrival, but it’s all delicious so you can’t really go wrong! I waited about ten minutes to be seated but the queue was in front of the food prep station, which allowed me to take pictures of everything I liked the look of as they made it and that helped me order! A great local spot, a little rough around the edges but food to die for and an authentic experience. I will be dreaming about Tacos Roy after leaving Oaxaca 😆❤️‍🔥

This place is amazing. Over 3 nights of staying in the area I've tried a variety of tacos and also the quesadillas. I can't stop coming back, if you're in doubt, go in. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The wait staff are amazing, they work fast and hard and they all take care of you.
Nabil W — Google review
This is a big restaurant with an extensive menu of Mexican food. Tacos, quesadillas, burritas, and all that you can imagine in many different flavors. It combines the authenticity and flavors of street food, with the comfort of going to a restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious. I strongly recommend anything costilla-flavored. This certainly ranks among the best tacos we had in Mexico, and we have a pretty strong list. There are many different sauces as well, all of them superb, especially the avocado one. Unfortunately, the service was not good. It was extremely slow. We had to wait for around 10 minutes for the waiter to bring us the menus, then the tacos took 20 minutes more after that, and another long wait for paying. Considering the nature of the food, we expected a much faster service. We wanted some quick tacos and had to sit for about an hour in a restaurant for that. I still strongly recommend this place, especially if you want to sit and relax a bit. It gets hot in there as it is not well ventilated, but it is comfortable, has nice bathrooms, and again, the food is incredible.

Taquería Tacomer is a popular spot in Oaxaca known for its delicious and affordable tacos. The evening kicks off with fresh trompo loaded with seasoned pork and pineapple, offering great value for money at 10-12 pesos per taco. Customers can enjoy a variety of flavors by ordering different tacos on one plate. The menu also features meat combination plates, quesadillas, and hearty pozole with generous portions of meat and hominy.
Amazing food for a low price! Tacos are cheap ($1-2 per taco) and can’t go wrong. They are limited in their vegetarian option, but I had the veggie quesadillas (as seen in the picture) and they are pretty good for the price. Heads up, they only accept cash.
Harb V — Google review
Had a good dinner here, some tacos and pozole. The pozole was very nice (first one I had, so I don't have any comparison), the tacos were good too but felt like the meat portion was pretty small. There's probably better tacos out there, but still great for a quick dinner out. Lots of locals dining here and the staff was friendly and helpful.

These are the best tacos I have ever had! The el pastor is absolutely delicious! It’s so thinly sliced and has such a great flavor. The pazole is also really yummy! I went there every night I was in the city, it was that good! The waiters are so attentive and nice! Best food I had in Mexico!
Tasha H — Google review
The best taquería we ate at during our entire trip! After weeks in Mexico, Tacomer was by far the highlight. The tacos were all amazing and the al pastor was the best we’ve ever had. What really made it unforgettable was the warmth of the people: the staff gave us tips on where to go in the city, made sure we felt safe, and welcomed us like family in a way we didn’t experience anywhere else. We ended up coming back every single day while we were in Oaxaca, and somehow each dish was even better than the last. On top of that, the prices were the lowest we found anywhere in Mexico. Simple, authentic, unbelievably tasty food, paired with kindness that breaks the scale, this place is truly unmissable.

Great food! We tried to go on a Monday evening but it was closed - I’m not sure that the opening hours are correct online. However, I’m so glad we went back the next night as these were some of the best tacos we had on our entire trip! The gringa and quesadilla were particularly great. Service was also very good, had an English menu and helpful waiter. Mix of locals and tourists

Customer service was good until you try to get the check. They sit down and eat before giving you the check. The food was missing flavor. The juices were good.
Cyn B — Google review
We thought it would be better. The mollette was so weak…had a very thin sliver of beans and some sandwich sliced Gouda cheese. Waited 10 minutes for pico de gallo and the mollette was cold. Didn’t even taste that great. The pancakes were good enough, nothing special. The papaya juice included the seeds which, if you’ve had papaya seeds, taste terrible. Boulenc is a better option for a brunch spot. Felt like a wasted 250 pesos.

Garnachas La Güera is a must-visit culinary gem located in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca. This spot is renowned for serving up some of the best garnachas in all of Mexico. The freshly prepared dishes, including grenache and shrimp with dressing, are highly recommended. Visitors praise the excellent service and emphasize that everything is made to order, ensuring top-notch quality.
Garnachas stand tall as one of the absolute best culinary delights across all of Mexico🇲🇽! Only a handful of places consistently serve them with the quality they deserve. Trust me, it's an experience worth every moment, and if you've never indulged, you're truly missing out 😢. Believe me, visiting Oaxaca without savoring garnachas is like missing the heartbeat of true Oaxacan culture. As a proud Oaxacan resident and a dual citizen of Mexico, I implore you—don't skip the garnachas. It's literally a culinary sin 😈!!!
Denny C — Google review
We are visiting Oaxaca and staying in Reforma and walked by this lovely little open air restaurant and it intrigued us so he looked online and saw excellent reviews and decided to go there ourselves for dinner. I promise that it will likely be our most returned to local restaurant while we are here for another few weeks. Our waitress was lovely and the food was exceptional… My large camerones de Aderezo chipotle prawns were huge, abundant and amazing …the Garnachas which we had for the first time were perfect and my wife’s Sopa de Mariscos/seafood soup was full of shrimp and squid and muscle and crab and so flavorful. I am showing pictures of all of our dishesbecause not only were they tasty but they were beautifully presented, the delicious slightly, but not too sweet elote “cornbread” with berries and ice cream was perfect. I can’t wait to go back and try more.

So glad to have found this place on Google Maps. Also very happy to have tried this spot. I already later in the evening, but they had garnachas still available. I’ve been to Oaxaca a few times, but never heard of garnachas until a few days ago. This place has great food, great customer service, and a great atmosphere. Next time I’ll make an effort to arrive earlier in the day to try their other food!

Herbivora in Oaxaca is a taco place that offers mouthwatering vegan cuisine. Having indulged in tacos from various cities in Mexico like Tulum, Mexico City, and Puerto Vallarta, Herbivora stands out with its delectable vegan tacos. While my husband prefers street tacos in Mexico City, these ones at Herbivora are our favorite. It's a great casual dining option with minimal seating of around eight stools.
Herbivora is hands down our favourite restaurant in Oaxaca. We have tried all of the tacos on the menu and have found it impossible to pick a favourite as they are all phenomenal. Our kids adore the food and look forward to stopping in, Our son is not a fan of mushrooms but ended up adoring the crispy mushroom taco - it was his favourite out of everything he tried. Herbivora has become a regular stop for us, being able to find incredible vegan tacos is such a treat. We have attended several cooking classes (mole and tamales so far, with more to come) and cannot recommend them highly enough. The owner and chefs are the kindest people and their creations are pure magic.
Juliette L — Google review
Best tacos in Oaxaca for vegans and maybe anyone, period. The tacos were incredibly fresh and the owner was making everything right in front of us. The options may be slightly limited but enough that I could come back a few times and be satisfied. The main problem is the small size of the location. Could definitely use more space! Approximately 8 people could probably sit and eat at any given time. Dessert was incredibly delicious as well and one of the best things on the menu. Highly recommend coming here while in Oaxaca
Ray P — Google review
Not only one of the best food/gastronomy experiences I had in Oaxaca or Mexico but probably in my life. It was so good that we went back not once or twice but three times!! And I usually never go back because I want to experience more restaurants... We ate all the different tacos and even took the cooking class which was amazing!! Can’t recommend this enough. If I come back to Mexico I would also come back to this place just for the tacos. Nothing is even close. Also Stefanos and his crew is super genuine and gave awesome service in this small and cozy little place. Once again thanks and just go to this small gem, don’t even bother with any other…

This place is very popular and it took 2 attempts to get in but boy was it worth it. The tacos are freshly cooked and the chef is visible and so you can see how fresh everything is cooked. The flavours are fresh and tasty. You need at least 3 or 4 tacos per person as they are relatively small but they were the best tacos I had for my entire Mexican holiday - and this is coming from a meat eater! Get there early because there are only about 8 seats but it really is worth the wait.

I cannot tell you how much I love this place! Everything I have tried from the menu has been extremely tasty and such good value for money. Good portion sizes too, but I normally get 2 mains as I like to try as much of their menu as possible. I have not had 1 bad meal here. Also, the Oreo Frappuccino is a must try, it’s delicious. Nice area to sit, with lots of plants. The staff are very attentive and serve you quickly, they are also very kind. I will be sad to leave Oaxaca because this place is so great. One of my favorite spots in the city! I always come here when I’m in Oaxaca to enjoy traditional food that otherwise I couldn’t because I’m vegan. I also love their alternative music playing. 100% recommend!

Easily my favorite restaurant in Oaxaca. I have been here many times and the food is incredible delicious and authentic. Everything homemade. I highly recommend the tortas and huevos. The people here are so friendly.

Vegetarian restaurant
Restaurante Arugula is a popular Oaxacan eatery known for its healthy and affordable vegetarian and vegan options. Located near the Oaxaca Zocalo and Mercado Benito Juarez, it offers a menu del dia with a variety of dishes made from locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant's cozy courtyard setting adds to its charm, making it a favorite among both tourists and locals.
Very delicious food! We had the vegan mole and the omelete with chorizo and quesillo. The mole was amazing. Great flavor. Filling and refreshing.

What a special discovery! I got off the bus and searched for something nearby and so glad I was just minutes from this place. What a unique location and great service all around! I was drawn to their choice of supplying ingredients directly from local organic farms. Quality ingredients make a huge difference-especially in some Mexican dishes. I was surprised at how humble the prices were for such a complete meal! You get a soup, main dish, dessert and a drink… (prices slightly vary but still under 200MXN!) I loved the atmosphere with the open patio and just off the busy street. Very sweet server/owner. So grateful to have found this place to start my stay in Oaxaca! Muchísimas gracias!

Excellent place for a hearty and filling vegetarian meal near el centro. The meal included lemonade, soup, a small side plate with salad and pasta, a large main dish, and a small plate of fruit for $180 pesos. It was all so delicious and fresh and I was very full by the end! The server was very sweet and kind as well.

Simple but great local restaurant, the prices are reasonable (125 pesos for a lunch package, including a drink)

Friendliest service we've had so far in Mexico, and the food is really good and amazing value - hidden gem. Loads of veggie options too.

This is my second time here grabbing lunch. What a wonderful experience both times!! At 1:00 PM they switch from breakfast to an amazing a menu of the day which includes a starter, a main dish & salad. Of course, try the agua of the day too! The incredibly sweet & kind owner serves a bustling restaurant with care for each guest. Food is very fresh, clean & simple. They also share a simple sweet to end the meal. My first meal had bits of papaya & sesame seeds & today was a cold roasted sweet squash. So delicious! Highly recommend!

Stopped in for an excellently priced, delicious breakfast. The service was good. They also have a large selection of vegetarian/vegan options. Great place to support.

Mexican restaurant
Coquina Hua Xha is a small, family-run restaurant in Oaxaca known for its intimate and cozy atmosphere. Run by the delightful husband and wife team, Sarita and Antonio, this charming spot offers a unique take on traditional Mexican cuisine. The open-style kitchen allows guests to watch Sarita work her magic while Antonio greets and serves customers. Despite the small size of the restaurant, it stands out among the best breakfast spots in Oaxaca.
So good! It's small, but the food is amazing. Friendly service too. The quesadillas were delicious. You can have 1 for a snack or 2 to make it a meal. The green sauce is to die for! Also had the banana milkshake and pineapple tepache too.

Had the best mole there in our week in Oaxaca. Recommend mole negro with all our hearts. Loved everything about this place, food was incredible, the owners incredibly friendly and warm and the cozy atmosphere - they only have 3 tables. Make sure you support this amazing local business
Felix S — Google review
Very nice place!! My wife is vegetarian and even though they were out of the vegetarian options, the cook talked to her and made her a special dish. The food was great, the place looks beautiful, and the atmosphere is very welcoming!! We definitely recommended.

We had some of the best meals at this restaurant that we ate in all of Oaxaca. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The quesadilla’s are amazing! It’s a gem, and I would recommend anyone to eat here!

Coquina Hua Xha was truly a highlight of my time in Oaxaca. Incredible mole amarillo, plus a cozy friendly atmosphere that made it feel like I was eating with family. And I was also able to sign up for a cooking class that was a wonderful experience. Highly highly recommended :)
Jonathan S — Google review
Very cozy and authentic place! The black mole and iced chocolate are must-try’s. Highly recommend this little family-owned restaurant.
Maibrit H — Google review
It is a small family-run restaurant. I visited here twice during my stay in Oaxaca and had Tlayuda, Mole and Tostada. It took a little to serve after the order. However, if you taste Tlayuda and Tostada which are crisp and good smell tortilla, and the complex aroma of Mole, you will know that it was a necessary time Overall, the food is both simple and complex, and I feel the taste of the chef. It is probably supported by careful preparation. Payment is in cash only, menu is in Spanish but the staff support your order. The staff has a soft and gentle atmosphere, so please enjoy the wonderful food.
Ken N — Google review
In a small unassuming three table, family run restaurant is some of the best mole negro over chicken I've ever had in Oaxaca. It's subtle spicy warm heat that builds as you eat it. It's rich and complex, savory with sweet notes of chocolate, the sesame seeds add a little pops of nuttiness. It was served with a warm tortilla and a side of soft fluffy rice that soaked up the mole. We had the memela with champiñones and the empanada amarilla for appetizers, both great starters. Then ordered the tlayuda with beef and chapulines. It was warm and crispy, with thin sliced tomato, quesillo, and avocado. The chapulines, for me, were reminiscent of dried scallops with briny umami. The tepache rimmed with chili/salt was delicious! Lightly fermented and available in 4 flavors - we tried the tuna(cactus pear) and Pineapple. I highly recommend eating here if you find yourself in Oaxaca!!

Taco restaurant
Tacos Del Llano is a popular food stand in Oaxaca known for serving only one type of taco: tacos de tasajo. Despite the limited menu, these tacos are highly praised for their delicious flavor and affordable price, making it the best taco deal in the area. The stand often has long lines due to its popularity, but the staff works efficiently to serve customers. The owner takes pride in maintaining a clean cart and surroundings.
Delicious tacos at a very fair price. There are plenty of seating options in the park. Ordering is quick and easy, with only two items on the menu, making it ideal for a light snack or a taste test since you can order by the piece. You can add salsas and other toppings yourself. The wait time was under 5 minutes. I will likely return.
Patrick — Google review
Great tacos. Current prices June ‘25 are 20 pesos for a tostada and 18 for tacos. There is always a line, but they have a very orderly system for moving people through quickly. We ordered our tacos to go and they packaged them nicely. We wished we would have bought more than five tacos, but did not have more cash on hand. Delicious!
Jana S — Google review
The best tacos in Oaxaca and super friendly service! Little taco stand in the park with big tacos and very veeery fair prices. Ordered one but couldn’t stop there
Zoe B — Google review
I came too early for a different vendor who had not yet opened and I saw a line here so I blindly got in line and ordered a tostada and it was FANTASTIC I didn’t have enough cash at the time - otherwise I’d have gotten another. Service is super orderly and kind and the price ($15 for tostada and $14 for taco) is super good too. Figured it would be when I saw the massive crowd around just this vendor at the park!
Grace P — Google review
We saw a lot of locals here and just joined. Fernando is really friendly. Ordered one and we wanted more. Place to be for a really good taco ✌️
Ellen U — Google review
There's usually a line here, but it's quick and it's worth it. There's a line because the tacos are really good. Simple menu, get the tasajo, great flavors
Dylan J — Google review
Approaching the cart, you can tell the owner takes a great amount of pride in his work!! The cart and area around the cart are kept meticulously clean. Now the food, it’s AMAZING!! Some of the best tacos in Oaxaca!! Also loved the the salsas!! Highly recommend!!
Michael D — Google review
An absolute must if you are a fan of tasajo. The line is never-ending and for good reason. Try both the taco and tostada con todo to decide which you prefer before getting back in line to order more. The staff has great energy and works very fast to fulfill your order.

Taco restaurant
Taquería Ta’ Bihui is a charming spot that specializes in slow-roasted pork tacos, tostadas, and tortas. The menu features a limited but exceptional selection, with the standout being the lechon (piglet) served on tacos or tostadas. The food is complemented by a variety of spicy sauces, including a fiery guacamole. Guests can enjoy their meal on the lovely plant-covered patio under the shade of a large tree.
Amazing food! We tried pretty much everything on the menu (tacos, tostadas and tortas) and we loved everything. Keep in mind that the sauces are quite spicy, even the guacamole one. People working there are very nice and kind. 100% recommended!

Delicious pork tacos and tostadas. And really reasonably priced! Plus very beautiful space too

These are the best chiccharon tacos we had in Oaxaca. Even better than the street tacos (who we shall not name) which are not far from here. Great price and you can sit down to eat. 10/10 tasty

Nice taco spot! Really cool artwork inside the restaurant’s courtyard.

Amazing food in a beautiful little restaurant. They only do lechón (piglet) on tacos or tostadas, and it is done perfectly. This place really is worth a visit! (I'll choose this in Oaxaca over street tacos any day)
Boldizsár E — Google review
Absolutely delicious lechon tacos made right in front of you. Definitely order the chicharron as it adds a delicious crunch, pairing incredibly well with the tender pork. I highly recommend this place!
