Mexican restaurant
Restaurant
Cafe Coyote is a lively spot in San Diego known for its vibrant Mexican decor, huge patios, and traditional Mexican entertainment. The restaurant offers a wide selection of tequilas and serves classic Mexican food prepared from regional recipes by Mexican chefs. One of the highlights is the Tortilla Ladies who make tortillas by hand to accompany your meal. Whether dining at an intimate table setting, outdoor courtyard, or massive banquet room, guests can enjoy a festive atmosphere and authentic cuisine.
Recommend by two locals and it was the best choice I made. The food, services, and atmosphere were 10/10. Our server was the sweetest, she took her time to give us details about our dishes as well as give us recommendations. All the dishes were well presented, very flavorful and with plenty of food. We were very impressed and we are looking forward to coming back.
Carmen G — Google review
Busy busy restaurant. Their specialty is that the tortillas are made fresh from raw dough, not the packaged kind you find at the supermarket. They’re especially fresh with a nice flour aroma. But the other dishes are just so-so, a bit on the salty side. The salsa is decent, with a bit of that fresh tomato flavor. Atmosphere is great, super friendly and lively.

*Go for the homemade tortillas, stay for the table side serenade* I was hesitant to eat at this restaurant as it is clearly located in a touristy area, but it was obvious both locals and tourists frequented this place. The tortillas and carne asada were a definite highlight. My daughter loved her tacos. Service was a little slow. But our server was very kind when he did stop by our table and met our needs, as requested. Overall, a solid choice in Old Town for Mexican food.

I would definitely visit again...even just for the FRESH, handmade on site tortillas! The best I've ever had! From the accommodating hosts to my amazing server Luis S (who was incredible with recommendations and kindness) ... everyone was so nice! Food was good with generous portions and decent pricing! Loved the festive atmosphere and plenty of seating!

**********3 Happy Howls for Cafe Coyote******** I've been coming here for years and Cafe Coyote always satisfies on all levels Service is always the best. Always friendly and efficient but never hovering. Food arrives quickly and extra tortillas---No Problemo! Atmosphere is festive and street side seating always provides for a great vibe in Old Town. *Street side, fresh-made tortillas are the absolute best!!!!!!!!! The food is predictably delicious. Favorites include the queso fundido, the guac ( of course) and salads. I am certain, everything is just as tasty. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food, service and fun vibe. Handicap doable and recommended. Final Take---- The best and definitely the funnest in the SD area. Highly Recommended-----Vamos!!

Overall, very good food and service, though definitely a bit on the pricey side. Additionally, I was a bit disappointed that, despite a few gentlemen with mariachi equipment wandering around, the music was just generic pop music. I do recommend getting something with their tortillas, as they were some of the best I've ever had.

Great food, awesome ambiance and decor, the server was friendly as well. Free chips and quality salsa. The cucumber margarita was really good

8.9/10 Cheese Enchiladas Honestly the food here is really great. I wasnt sure if the food was gonna be justified by the hype but it definitely was Homemade tortillas, the sauce, cheese, rice, and beans were all flavorful and the flavor really jumps out at you The food came out pretty quick and there is tons of space here I'm sure he gets very crowded. It absolutely is worth it and I'd recommend going and you wont be disappointed

Las Cuatro Milpas is a beloved Mexican eatery in San Diego that has been serving up homemade tortillas and traditional dishes since 1933. The restaurant's unassuming picnic-table decor and unchanged ambiance exude a timeless charm, creating a welcoming atmosphere for diners. Known for its long lines, the menu features classic offerings such as tacos, tamales, burritos, chorizo con huevo, and menudo served on Saturdays.
This place is incredibly good! We had one of the best meals in while visiting San Diego. We took home plenty of food and enjoyed it for nearly three days. Absolutely loved the tamales, hand made tortillas and rolled tacos. The beans and chorizo were delicious. Just one caution: they only take cash. Make sure you bring enough cash to cover your meal. Will 💯 return and enjoy another meal here!
Nathan H — Google review
Las Cuatro Milpas is a popular spot in Logan Heights that many locals rave about. The food is good and definitely has that homemade, traditional feel. It’s a no-frills place with a strong sense of local culture. While I enjoyed the meal, it didn’t quite live up to the hype for me. The flavors were solid, but not as exceptional as I had been led to expect. That said, the flour tortillas are a standout, fresh, soft, and definitely worth trying. Overall, it’s a good spot for a one-time visit to get a taste of local flavor and tradition, especially if you’re in the area. Just manage expectations if you’ve heard it’s the best in town.
Elavan — Google review
Took a ride down to San Diego, for what I expected to be some fantastic tacos. The service was impeccable, as the ladies working the orders counter treated you like family. However, the food itself was less than impressive. Hard shell tacos were not crispy nor hot. Beef inside was dry. Lastly, it feels like you’re dining on top of a tortilla “sweat shop”, as the ladies hustle all around you, trying to quickly bust out fresh tortillas.

Every time I have been here has been absolutely Wonderful! The food, Ambiance, historical setting and service have been outstanding! When you arrive there is usually a line running out of the front entrance. 1-Get in line. 2-Order your food and ask for the food to go or for eating at the restaurant. 3-Wait at the counter for your food. 4-Pay or your food. 5- leave a tip for the hard working individuals employed at this establishment. 6- if you are eating in, it is all open seating. Find an open space which suits your needs Enjoy! Ask for the Chorizo and egg bowl (which is mixed with fresh pinto beans and red rice! So very yummy! Also order the tacos de pollo (chicken tacos). The tacos are filled with shredded chicken with a few diced potatos, shredded iceburg lettuce, crema and cotija cheese. The chicken filling is expertly seasoned by an Abuelita who knows what she is doing!! The Chorizo bowls come with a red salsa and freshly made flour tortillas. Outs no tanding! Oh..also pick up a dozen (or two) of freshly made flour tortillas to take home.
Raul Y — Google review
Very underwhelming. Chorizo con huevos had 0 chorizo, but a load of salty beans instead. Tamales only come with pork and lack flavor, I've had better tamales at a Mexican grocery store in Minnesota. Tacos were not bad for the price and had generous amount of meat. Can't eat inside half hour before closing. Cash only.
Alexander P — Google review
Been to Las Cuatro Milpas many times over the past 40 years and to hear of it's sale and potential closing is very sad. So I flew back to SD to get perhaps one last taste of the delicious food. Pork Burrito and a side of rice and beans.
Jpmorneau — Google review
I'm a San Diego native, and have never been here before. Since I know it's for sale, I wanted to go. The line is long, but it moves pretty fast. All the food is cooked to order, right in front of you. The fresh corn and flour tortillas are also made while you watch. The rice and beans mixed in a bowl is to die for. They only have a few things on the menu but all of them will blow your mind.
Leisa K — Google review
Overall this place had really delicious authentic Mexican food. Coming from a Mexican family I can say it’s pretty spot on. Reminds me a lot of Mexican food from the pueblitos. Great portions and great prices for the quality and quantity. Only thing was the chorizo con huevos could be better. The flavor was good but the ratio of rice and beans to the chorizo and huevos could be improved. It’s more like a rice and beans plate with a sprinkle of eggs and chorizo. A LOT of rice and beans which I didn’t know it came with and barely any actual eggs or chorizo. I ordered a side of rice and beans with it because I didn’t know the huevos and chorizos already came with it and the menu doesn’t state it.

Puesto At The Headquarters is a bi-level eatery that offers an innovative Mexican menu sourced locally. It features floor-to-ceiling windows and serves refreshing tropical cocktails. You can enjoy the large outdoor patio at the Marina District location or opt for people-watching at the La Jolla or Mission Valley locations.
Just follow the Pink Puesto truck to the best taco and fun drinks restaurant in San Diego. Love, love, love the tacos! Service was spectacular! Thank you Elsa! We ordered several types of tacos, guacamole, and chips, and some wonderful drinks. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Glad we came here. So close to many hotels and things to do.

I’m from Michigan, and the first time we visited San Diego, we ended up dining here twice…it was that good! On our next trip back, we made it our birthday lunch spot, and once again, it didn’t disappoint. The service was amazing…our waitress even gave us a free appetizer because we waited (which was only about five minutes!). Super generous and thoughtful. The food was full of flavor, the drinks were great, and it was the perfect way to kick off our trip after getting off the plane. Highly recommend!
Cecilia W — Google review
We arrived around 3:45pm. There was a conference downtown, so it was busy causing a 30-minute wait for a table for 2. The hostesses were nice and let us know we could order food and/or drinks at these small chairs by the bar. We weren’t able to order because both lines for the bar were so long. However, once our table was ready everything was great. KORDEL was our server and he was attentive, quick, and nice. He asked about food allergies and made great suggestions. The shrimp and filet mignon tacos were our favorites. The rice and beans cost $4 extra, but were worth it. They no longer have happy hour. Instead, they have half-off all tacos from 3pm to close on Taco Tuesday. On Thursday they have another offer that includes half off margaritas. I would only go on a Tuesday because the regular taco prices are wild. ASK FOR KORDEL during your next Taco Tuesday outing.
Tayla H — Google review
We had lunch at Puesto at The Headquarters and it was excellent! Our server Adrian was super friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. We ordered a mix of tacos including Lobster, Filet Mignon, Wagyu Brisket, Ribeye, Baja Fish, and Carnitas, and every single one was packed with flavor. The crispy melted cheese and salsas really take them to the next level. The Puesto Guacamole was fresh and nicely seasoned, a solid starter. We had the Michelada and the Coke slushie, both really refreshing and perfect for a midday meal. The only letdown was the Churro Sundae, which looked great but didn’t really taste like churro. It could use more churro pieces, cinnamon sugar, or sauce to bring it together. Overall, the tacos are absolutely on point. Next time, I’d skip the apps and dessert and just stick with tacos and drinks because that’s where Puesto really shines.
Mindysv — Google review
We chose Puesto for a get together given they have a pup friendly patio , was walkable from our hotel and took reservations. Service was great, delicious watermelon margaritas and the food was tasty. I found pricing to be a bit high for what you were getting/portion (specifically the bowls) Also, we were never offered water for pups which is fine but compared to other pup friendly restaurants felt like a miss (we are spoiled?)
Betsy M — Google review
Came with a party of 6. Food was perfection and came out hot. Service was delayed a bit but they were busy for a Sunday evening with a big conference in town. Staff very friendly though. Highly recommend. Seating on two floors, try to get a table upstairs overlooking the shops. It’s a cool spot for cocktails too. Delicious mojitos. Got the chicken enchiladas - ate every bite!! My guests loved the short rib and filet tacos as well.
Ashley L — Google review
Stopped into Puesto in Seaport Village and had such a great experience. It’s one of those spots that feels both local and fancy, perfect for a casual night out or a quick bite. The atmosphere was lively without being overwhelming, and the bar had that perfect balance of fun energy and good conversation. Reyna and Damian were fantastic behind the bar. Ive seen Reyna a few times. Shes always on the details, genuinely friendly, attentive, and just on it with everything. They made the whole experience even better. And seriously, the steak tacos are an absolute must. Perfectly seasoned, tender, and packed with flavor. Easily one of my favorite neighborhood go-tos now.
Tonia S — Google review
I truly appreciate the authenticity of the dishes in this restaurant. While it is not your typical Mexican dishes they are inspired by real Mexican loved recipes. Someone in my party announced that this was The Best Horchata and I have to agree. It was the creamy and sweet, yet refreshing. We had a variety of the menu items and not one dish disappointed the party. The ingredients and taste were authentically Mexican. No preservative taste anywhere. The Nogada Guacamole, obviously inspired by Chiles en Nogada, was delicious. The Esquite, while in not really a fan of esquite in general, i prefer it on the cob, but this was so good every last crumb was eaten. Totally a great experience. Can't wait to go back. The staff was super friendly and amazing as well. Overall a great experience.

Lucha Libre Taco Shop is a vibrant taqueria located in the Mission Hills area of San Diego, where the spirit of Mexican wrestling meets authentic street-style cuisine. This lively eatery boasts an impressive menu that highlights California burritos, featuring unique fillings like pork adobada and birria.
Got the queso birria. Was pretty good, a little salty for me but the salsa, chips, and ipa went really well together. Definitely recommend. Only thing I wish they had was a plain asada taco with onions and cilantro. Sometimes the basics is all you need to tell if a place is good or not.
Leo V — Google review
These tacos at their core are tasty, well constructed, and unique. The atmosphere is remarkable and service is excellent. However, the sauces on the tacos are a tad overbearing and generally not that tasty. There could also be more meat on the tacos for $6 dollar a pop
Zach S — Google review
Food: Tasty! The birria taco had a real kick to it compared to others I have bad before. I really enjoyed all three tacos that I had. Service: Self checkout with minimal interaction with staff, so defaulting to 5. Atmosphere: Awesome. Just see the other photos. Overall, closing remarks: Delicious food, but doesn't come cheap. Somewhere I will likely be eating at infrequently. My chips didn't come with any salsa or dipping sauce. I might have missed these if they were sitting out for self service. Something to dip them in would have been nice. The chips were hot and good even on their own, though!
Kirk D — Google review
First time here in San Diego, and first time at Lucha Libre. I saw a YouTube on this place for good eats. This place was just ok. Unfortunately there was nothing to rave about. I had the Birria Cali, my wife had the Surf Cali, and my son had the Champion Fries with steak. The burritos had too many fries in it and it was the thick soggy fries. The birria lacked taste which was unfortunate. My wife liked her burrito, but still, didn't like the fries. My son's Champion fries was lacking the champion in it. The steak wasn't seasoned that great, and again, lots of soggy fries. It's kind of hard to give a good review after going to Taco El Gordo the night before in Gaslamp.
Nfin8rider — Google review
I love how innovatively they keep introdicing new tacos. They are inventive, all the tacos are delicious, well seasoned. Kids love the burritos. And the salsa bar is a bonus with fresh salsas.

Had a recent fantastic visit at this prt-friendly restaurant. Ordered the Poblano Cali as well as Birria Nachos and they were delicious! The restaurant was spacious with a vibrant decor! Will come back!

The food good and you don’t have to wait for too long. A lot of meat with affordable price. Recommend Surf burrito and queso taco. They have free drink for a review but it’s on yelp

Mexican restaurant
Lola 55 Tacos & Cocktails is a trendy spot known for its gourmet tacos and craft cocktails. The industrial-chic counter serve with a lounge area adds to the unique dining experience. Locals rave about the juicy, mesquite-grilled Filet Mignon Tacos topped with avocado mousse, smoky pasilla salsa, crispy leeks, and jalapeno toreado.
Seriously good, upscale tacos! I come here at least once a month and I have never disappointed. Their fish taco is excellent! Also, they have two killer veggie options if you don’t want meat. I like meat but still sometimes prefer their cauliflower taco. The beans, the rice, and the drink selections are also quite good. Seriously good food, cannot recommend enough!
Alec R — Google review
Lola 55 nails the craft taco vibe, lively room, polished service, and the Michelin Bib Gourmand nod makes sense. Our spread hit all the notes, crisp Caesar, juicy chicken tacos, a steak taco, one Baja fish, the kids quesadilla, and the Tres Hermanas. The standouts were the fish and the beans, both among the best I have had, the fish perfectly crisp and flaky, the beans silky, deeply seasoned, and addictive. Shout out to Arlene, warm, knowledgeable, and generous with details about the vibe and the food. She also shared how they evolved from self-serve to full service, and you can feel that in the hospitality. Five stars from me. It is not my everyday go-to, I lean super healthy most days, but when I want excellent tacos with real care behind them, this is where I am coming.
Maryam — Google review
First of all, I know the food is the most important thing in a restaurant, but the service was just INCREDIBLE. I feel bad I don't remember her name, but our waitress was so kind, attentive and just so energetic, me and my gf loved her. Now the food. Carnitas tacos were the best tacos I HAVE EVER HAD. A perfect combination of salty, acidity from what I think were tomatillos, and crunchy. They had a special pozole which was phenomenal too. Their fish taco is really famous. Disclaimer, I don't like fish tacos, but we still ordered and it was the best one I've had ever. Personally I would still stick with the carnitas and steak, but if you do enjoy them, it is indeed very flavorful. Overall 10/10 experience, if we didn't live in Chicago, we would become regulars without a doubt.
Paulo K — Google review
The smoked carnitas, beans and rice are great. Every other taco I've tried there is just okay. The staff yesterday had zero tequila knowledge and didn't know what a ramekin lid was.. Also was quoted a certain price for tequila only to realize they charge 3 bucks extra for a neat pour, I get it, usually 2 oz and not 1.5. But then I got charged another 3 bucks for a rocks pour. Not sure if this is how the business wants to do it or if it was an employee mistake. Either way, they need to train their people more. This spot used to be amazing, not so much anymore sadly
Andrew M — Google review
Great place for tacos! The tacos were delicious. They have a machine making corn tortillas, and they come ready with sauce, so no need for extra lime or hot sauce. I had steak, pork belly al pastor, and a fish taco, all very filling. The tacos felt elegant but tasted great. I looked them up online are featured in the 2022 Michelin guide which makes sense after trying the food. I will be back soon.
Daniel P — Google review
We swing in for the happy hour and got the cauliflower taco and beer. It was nice that they had a few vegiterian/vegan options for tacos that were unique. The cauliflower one had an eggplant bacon that added a nice crisp and smoky flavor. The beer was just okay but they arent a brewery so I wasnt expecting it to be amazing. The staff was pretty quick and friendly and had a few recommendations that were helpful as well. Overall a nice place to grab a bite.
Conner J — Google review
Stumbled upon this unassuming eatery on a sunny Thursday afternoon, and it turned out to be some of the best tacos I’ve ever had. The open, airy ambiance made for a relaxed and inviting setting, and the service was truly top-notch. Our server, Caleb, was fantastic—passionate and deeply knowledgeable. He enthusiastically shared the story behind the restaurant and dove into the thought and technique behind each dish, from preparation to seasoning. They also have an excellent happy hour. I especially loved the spiced Jamaica—a beautifully aromatic drink infused with anise and warming mixed spices. It struck a perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and floral notes. As for the food—absolutely unforgettable. The Squashroom and Cauliflower tacos are two of the most inspired vegetarian tacos I’ve ever had. The Squashroom features a delicately battered lion’s mane mushroom paired with a squash blossom, bright verde salsa, and a bold red chili paste. It’s a mesmerizing harmony of textures and flavors. The Cauliflower taco might have been my favorite. Smoky, crispy cauliflower meets a crunchy eggplant “bacon” strip, all topped with a deeply flavorful sweet-and-tangy mole. The fresh corn tortillas elevate every bite—they’re the perfect vehicle for all these bold, creative flavors. I also tried the Baja Fish taco, which was equally impressive. The fish was fried to perfection—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside—accompanied by a spicy salsa, tangy tartar sauce, and a touch of mesclun greens for freshness. An incredible combination. In short: this place is doing something truly special. Innovative, intentional, and absolutely delicious. Someone give them their Michelin star already!

Amazing! They low-key have Michelin stars and they deserve it! Their tacos are amazing, prices very decent. We had 4 drinks, 3 tacos and 2 deserts for $108 before gratuity. Vibe is laid back but service is attentive!

Oscars Mexican Seafood is a popular chain of Mexican seafood restaurants, with its first location opening in Pacific Beach in 2011. Despite being modestly billed as a casual, local shop, it has consistently been listed as one of the best Mexican restaurants in San Diego. The Ensenada-style battered fish taco is a local favorite and even caught the attention of chef Andrew Zimmern.
I thought this place was great. We started with the ceviche which was awesome. They only had shrimp so we tried that. 5/5 I ordered the skirt steak, surf and turf and smoked fish tacos. My fav was the surf and turf. All were good but the surf and turf was exceptional. The smoked fish was unique and good but not something I’d order regularly. 5/5 Atmosphere was counter service with outdoor dining 3/5

A sincerly nice joint for a great bite of seafood. It's lovely food, made with love, with fresh in-house made salsas and agua frescas. I will say due to its popularity and the small size of the actual resteraunt, it *does* get super crowded at peak eating times. But what sets this place apart from other wonderful eateries? Veronica. She's almost always the cashier you speak to at the register to order your meal, and she's a literal angel. She's sweet, kind, and sp patient. She'll call you "sweetie" or "mija/mijo" and she means it. She's happy to tell you all about the menu items, and never skimps on twlling you how *she* likes it (spoiler alert: she's always right, imho). So come to Oscar's for the amazing mariscos (the fisherman's torta is INSANE) but stay for mama Veronica, because she's the heart and soul of this place. ❤️

Oscar’s is easily one of my favorite spots for Mexican seafood in San Diego. The fish tacos are next-level—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Our favorites are the especial, octopus, battered shrimp, and grilled spicy shrimp taco. Don't forget to use their freshly made sauces in the fridge along with an assortment of other hot sauces. Their fish stew is also surprisingly fresh and savory. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the casual vibe makes it the perfect stop whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or hanging with friends. This location has inside seating and easier parking since it's located in a strip mall. A must stop it you're in the SD area.

Great service. Was given a cup of their seafood stew while we were deciding on what to order. Very hearty seafood stew with a chicken base. The taco especial was particularly great. Surf n tuf, which is usually my go to at taco shops was a little disappointing. I guess it goes to say that they are a seafood establishment and each and every seafood-based dish was fantastic

Great casual Mexican seafood spot. Authentic. Set up is great for take out, but enough tables for around 20. They offered fish soup samples, which had excellent broth and plenty of meat and vegetables. The grilled octopus taco was balanced and substantial. Others in our party enjoyed fried fish and smoked fish tacos.

Best seafood tacos I ever had outside of Mexico. Staff members were very kind courteous and generous. Go straight for the shrimp or fish or shrimp+fish tacos. Don’t bother with the ceviche, taco was far better. And the horchata drink! That was amazing!
Shams R — Google review
The octopus taco was perfectly cooked and the tuna ceviche was fresh. Update: Revisited and tried the fish/shrimp ceviche. It was zesty and fresh. The only knock is that they didn’t include the extra tostada, but charged me for it

This was the first place I ate at after arriving in San Diego for the first time. The lady behind the counter was so sweet and helpful, as were the other members of the staff. The torta I had didn't hold back in size and taste, and every scoop of the shrimp cerviche was packed with flavour and zest.

Cocina 35 is a quick-serve restaurant located in downtown's Cortez Hill neighborhood, offering traditional Mexican entrees and breakfast in an airy, industrial setting. The eatery is renowned for its generous portions of chilaquiles, with options like Chilaquiles Regulares and the popular Los Rancheros. The menu also features sampler platters showcasing a variety of sweet and savory items, along with breakfast dishes such as scrambles, omelets, and enfrijoladas.
I found this place on my open table app. It looked amazing. One thing is for sure, make sure to make a reservation. I made a 11:00am and that place is busy. If you cannot find street parking, there is a $3.00 underground parking lot or across a street. I am unsure how much it is since we were lucky find parking. Inside of the restaurant is beautiful. I love the atmosphere. The food is delicious. Everything there is a 10 star+. We took dessert to go but I am sure it's fabulous. If you want to take a drive to San Diego and looking for a good brunch place. This is it. Oh and the service is amazing. We had Karla and she took good care of us.

This restaurant usually have long waits, we were lucky to go on a weekday and it was not busy at around 10am. The service was good but a little slow for my preference. She was very nice though and explained all the dishes we had questions on. Food tasted delicious and it didn’t take that long, maybe because they were not that busy. The concept of this restaurant is good, a little small but still aesthetically appealing. There’s only one bathroom but it was very clean! Parking is in front of the restaurant I believe and it’s $15 or $20 to park unless you find street parking or public parking. I would definitely be going back!

We walked passed this place on a Thursday at 8 am it was completely empty and we decided to go in the next day after. We are from Texas and we're visiting a few days and didn't want to eat hotel breakfast. The Friday we went in it was pretty busy but were sat fairly quickly. Mind you just myself and my husband, we waited about 10 minutes for someone to come over, while another family of 5 got sat and within 30 seconds someone was there to take their order. Our server was walking passed us and stopped in her tracks and was quick to ask if we were ready. We made our order and it was out within 7 minutes before our drinks came out. We both got "hot" lattes but they were warm at best. The food was good, again not hot but the flavor was there. Our server never came back after dropping off our food, we had to get another server to grab our check after waiting another 15 minutes after we were done eating. We're not the type not to tip well, but this was a $65 check for 2 people for breakfast, so no she did not even get a 10% tip. We decided to give it a go again the Sunday we were leaving. It's about 8 am, empty, like 2 families of 2 or 3 people there, she asks if we are walk-in or reservation. I was confused because there was literally no line and a bunch of tables. We were sat, the server comes over, we both got the caffe de olla, again warm at best. The food again out within 5-7 minutes, flavors seem to be there but it definitely feels like they rush the food and the service. Server came back a few times to check on us, waited about 5 minutes after we were done to get our check. I asked her for our check and she comes over and asks "has anyone given you you're check?" I was again confused since she was our server and had her little handy dandy machine on her, like was someone else supposed to give it us. Service absolutely needs to be improved and maybe take a look at turning up the heat on the food and coffee because everything is warm/lukewarm.

This waterfront restaurant on the shores of San Diego Bay is a standout in the city’s dining scene. The menu seamlessly fuses authentic Mexican flavors with a refined, gourmet presentation, creating dishes that are both familiar and elevated. Each plate showcases fresh, well-balanced ingredients prepared with precision. Service is warm, attentive, and well-paced, adding to the overall excellence without feeling overbearing. The setting is simply beautiful—offering stunning bay views that perfectly complement the experience. Prices are moderate and entirely reasonable given the quality of the cuisine, service, and location. A must-visit for those seeking exceptional food in a truly picturesque setting.

Edited on 11/06/25: I went in person and omg yassssss best chilaquiles in town and awesome Service as well. Avoid delivery though because the 30 minutes it sits in the container gets them soggy even if you get the “deconstructed”..idk if maybe they didn’t follow this request but just go in person. Pro tip, make a reservation online to avoid long wait. I really want to like this place since they are known for the “best chilaquiles in town”. Overall I wasn’t too impressed. My chilaquiles were soggy, apparently because I got them “constructed” but since I ordered delivery it really was not, they were simply placed in a to go container. It seems silly to charge extra for “deconstructed” version to maintain the crispyness, it should just be common sense to use best judgement when it comes to that. I was confused in regards to why the beans were so watery, am I suppose to drink them? Also they were nasty and tasted like they came from a can, I threw them away. I was initially mostly pleased with the $6 freshly squeezed orange juice but was expecting something extra since they advertise it comes in an “adult cup”. I later found something floating around in there..coulda been mold from not cleaning their squeeze device properly? The flavor of the chilaquiles and carnitas was really good. I have yet yet to experience the “best chilaquiles in town”. Soggy is not it.

Great spot for authentic, delicious Mexican food and brunch! Be prepared for a wait if you don’t have a reservation—but trust me, it’s well worth it. We came on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend, and the place was fully prepared for the crowds: organized, professional, and efficient. There’s a large paid parking, street parking, and a garage all conveniently located right across the street and next to the restaurant, which is a huge plus for any downtown location. One unique touch I appreciated was the display of all their menu items both on the phone and behind glass inside the actual restaurant—it makes it easy to choose what looks most appetizing. I ordered the El Patrón platter, a hearty breakfast sampler with chilaquiles, beans, two eggs, and French toast. The portion was just right—I cleaned the plate. For dessert, I had the churros, which were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Simple, but perfectly done. The only downside was the specialty coffee. At $9, it didn’t live up to the name or price—the milk in there tasted borderline expired...Still, I highly recommend this place! They have several other locations too, in case downtown isn’t your scene. Thank you for a wonderful experience! 10/10.

This was my first time trying Cocina 35. I have seen this restaurant with huge lines before which have turned me off but this time I decided to give it a try. I wish I would have tried this place sooner as I didn't realize how quickly this establishment attends its guest which allows the line outside to move very quickly. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried the chilaquiles with carne asada and the agua de jamaica was delicious as well. All the servers were very welcoming and very attentive. I will definitely be returning.
Alexandra D — Google review
Let's start with the customer service. It was not good service at all. I saw 2 other couples from the walk in list, that got seated after my husband and I, not only get their orders taken but they got their food and drinks before we did. I ordered the Patron plate with a little of everything. The chilaquiles were tortilla chips with a light smear of bland salsa. The beans were watered down. The avocado was not ripe. The french toast was stiff. This place is overrated for the quality of the food and service. The decor and walls inside are not aesthetic at all. The cherry on top was after paying for this mediocre Mexican meal, I had to use the restroom. A Cocina 35 employee finished using the restroom and did not have the decency to inform me that the restroom needed to be restocked with toilet paper. Luckily I had pocketed a couples napkins and was able to use them. I will never be returning to any of these Cocina 35 establishments and highly recommend you seek another restaurant choice over this business any day.

Ed Fernandez Restaurant Birrieria is a vibrant and unassuming eatery that offers a variety of Mexican dishes, including tacos, quesadillas, and their specialty birria stew. The establishment is run by NestorBrothers Miguel Angel and Jorge Fernandez, who are known for serving some of the most delectable Tijuana-style birria on both sides of the border. The birria is slow-cooked overnight to create a rich blend of beef, chiles, and spices.
A local favorite taco spot. I highly recommend it, you will leave full and satisfied. Prices are very reasonable and the quality is superb. There is seating is available inside and outside, but it's small shop so except a line and wait time. But the line moves rather quickly. There is also a to go window.

The food is absolutely delicious and the service was so exceptionally outstanding that I wouldn’t mind coming back to visit multiple times in the week. The menudo is full of flavor, the tripe very well washed and not gamey, it could very likely be the best menudo in all of San Diego. The service was quick and very friendly, everyone was happy to help and give suggestions to improve our experience. Try the quesabirria tacos and don’t miss out on their menudo.

I've always passed by this place but for many years I did not stop in because of the long line. But truth be told the line is worth it the food is fantastic and you won't regret standing in line whether it be half an hour or 45 minutes. The day I got there there happened to be no line and I went during the week because I was doing a smog inspection right next door. The food is quality you can tell they take their time cooking the delicious meat it's not made of goat but that's okay beef is also very very good the service was excellent there is one spicy little server there she kind of gets in your business but she means no harm she's a sweetheart period and the girls that are running the show up front are very efficient and kind I definitely want to come back here during the weekend waiting the long line with my family and share with them what a great meal this is.

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Ed Fernandez Restaurant Birrieria while visiting San Jose, and it was easily one of the highlights of my trip. The portions were huge, definitely come hungry! Every bite was packed with flavor, and you can really taste the quality in the ingredients and preparation. The service was impressively fast and friendly, making the whole experience seamless. The atmosphere had such a welcoming and authentic vibe—it felt both lively and comfortable, perfect for enjoying a meal with friends or family. As someone visiting from Canada, I can confidently say this place is worth the trip all on its own. I would absolutely come back again. Highly recommend to anyone looking for amazing food, generous portions, and great service in San Jose!

Ed Fernandez is simply on another level. Hands down the best birria in San Diego, and honestly even better than our go-to spot in Rosarito. The flavors are rich, authentic, and unforgettable. You can tell right away that this is the real deal. We tried the crispy birria tacos and the flour quesabirria tacos, and both were absolutely phenomenal. The crispy tacos had that perfect crunch with tender, juicy meat inside, while the flour quesabirria was gooey, cheesy, and deeply flavorful. Every bite was packed with bold, savory goodness that keeps you wanting more. On top of the food, the service was quick and efficient, which is impressive given how popular this place is. The back patio seating was shaded and surprisingly comfortable, making it an ideal spot to relax and enjoy your meal even on a hot San Diego afternoon. If you’re a birria lover, this is a must-visit spot. The hype is 100% real, and after one visit, you’ll see why so many people call this the best birria around

I thought I had good Birria in San Diego before coming to this place, but this was the easily the best Birria experience I've had in my life, hands down. I ordered the #1 combo with the banana flavor augua fresca, and I would highly recommend both! And even apart from the food, every single staff member that I interacted with treated us so warmly, like family, and were super considerate, attentive, and super generous! Altogether it made an excellent impression on our friends who were visiting all the way from Chicago too. This is the kind of experience that warms my heart and soul and makes me very proud to be a native San Diegan, and I'm so proud of our city! Thank you Ed Fernandez for cultivating this wholesome restaurant as a local treasure!

Casa Guadalajara is a vibrant Mexican restaurant located in San Diego's Old Town, offering a lively atmosphere with live mariachi music and colorful indoor dining or outdoor patio seating. Voted as the Best Mexican Restaurant by San Diego Magazine, it provides an array of local cuisine options and live music performances for various occasions such as weddings, parties, or casual gatherings.
Casa Guadalajara was recommended by the missionaries at the Mormon Battalion museum and it was a perfect lunch location. Crispy chips, flavorful salsa with a perfect level of heat. The taco salad was fresh, flavorful and delicious. The appetizer platter consisted of taquitos and quesadillas and if you like meaty cheesy goodness it’s a great starter. They had live music and a fun, festive atmosphere. Prices averaged $20 per dish but they were large enough to easily share.

Casa Guadalajara – Old Town San Diego ⭐️ Ambiance: ★★★★★ Beautiful outdoor seating with vibrant umbrellas, colorful chairs, and a lovely central fountain. It’s a great spot to soak up the San Diego sunshine in a festive setting. ⭐️ Service: ★★★★★ Friendly and attentive service throughout our visit. Staff were prompt and helpful, which added to the overall experience. Alexandra was an incredibly friendly and attentive server. ⭐️ Food: ★★★★☆ Portions are generous and the pricing is fair. The refried beanswere the standout—. Shrimp fajitas were tasty and plentiful. However, the chips were a letdown. Burned taste and bland, even on the second try. The guacamole also missed the mark, tasting pre-made and lacking fresh flavor. ⭐️ Drinks: ★★☆☆☆ Tried the spicy cucumber margarita, but it was overly sweet and dominated by the mix. Not balanced or refreshing—unfortunately, a miss in the drink department.

My fiancée and I ate here on a recent anniversary trip to San Diego, and found it to be REALLY good! While in the Old Town area, this spot is a bit off the beaten path, more on the outskirts, close to the Old Town Transit Station (easy walking distance). It’s a popular restaurant for sure, and they don’t take reservations, unfortunately. There is a waitlist on their site — but not a standard reservation system. We went to late lunch/early dinner on a Sunday afternoon and there was a short wait — maybe 10-15 minutes (we were told 25-30, but it was much faster). The restaurant is expansive, featuring indoor and patio seating. I definitely recommend the patio, as inside is festive and VERY loud, often with a full house and live music being played. The patio was comfortable, clean, and had heat lamps and table umbrellas offering plenty of warmth and protection from the sun as well. Really nice patio space! Chips and salsa is served right after you’re seated, and it’s good — it’s “traditional” salsa, not too chunky, not too thin. Not too spicy, either, which was nice. The chips were thick and we salted them before eating — too bland, otherwise. My fiancée had Carne Asada Tacos and after adding the accompanying pico and guacamole, they were very tasty. The carne asada chucks were big and the portions were generous — but the meat wasn’t as flavorful as we like (which happens more often than not with carne asada at Mexican restaurants). Again, once everything was combined, the tacos were yummy, so she was very satisfied with her meal. I had the Guadalajara Taco Salad, which was very flavorful and very good! The cilantro lime dressing was fantastic and the chicken was plentiful and perfectly seasoned/cooked. The presentation was beautiful and we were both very happy with our main course choices. Dessert was flan, which I’m not a big fan of — but my fiancée said was very good and ate most of as we relaxed and enjoyed our time on the patio. Service was good here and very friendly. The pricing was fair, considering where this restaurant is — places in Los Angeles charge just as much or more and aren’t nearly as good. So the pricing here is solid and not a rip. If we were San Diego locals, we’d definitely frequent this spot! And we absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting the Old Town area!

Total experience was overall satisfying here for our first time at Casa Guadalajara. I ordered the chili Colorado and wasn’t a big fan of it so I switched it for the breaded shrimp tacos and those were amazing! I’ll definitely come back and try something else on the menu. The waitress was amazing. I forget her name she was the blonde lady and her service was absolutely exceptional when we go back to San Diego will come by and try something else on the menu very lovely restaurant and a nice area in Mission Bay.

I decided to have lunch here because of the good reviews that I read. I'm sorry; this review will not be among them. I ordered breakfast. Eggs and chorizo. Kind of hard to get wrong, but this restaurant managed to burn the chorizo, scramble it into eggs and serve it to me. It was crunchy 😞. My server, Samuel, had a monotone voice paired with unenthusiasm that had me hesitant to ask for another plate. I don't know how that plate even left the kitchen 😳. I got a to-go box, filled it up, and hope someone will be hungry enough to enjoy it 🤷🏾. The patio was quaint and cozy. Perfect on a cloudy day. Overall, a disappointment. I don't recommend.

The perfect place to continue the party after a Padres game! We got a nice table for 8 right after a Padres win, sooooooooooooo double win?? Double House margarita with no extra flavor was one of the better margaritas I've had downtown. Service was incredibly quick, the $5 chips and salsa is a great deal and tasty. The menu is on the expensive side, but the two tacos for $20 and a side were huge and enough to satisfy a grown man. The grilled shrimp was fantastic, the Al Pastor seemed more like Asada but was still tasty. The rice was decent but meh, the black beans were good. TJ dog was great, tons of toppings and an ok bun, but $9 was a good price. Burro bowl was huge with added shrimp, and tasty! The service really shined for us so that will keep us coming back!

I ordered a lobster taco with street corn and tried two different margaritas. While the street corn was a bit too sour for my taste, and the margaritas, despite being listed as distinct, tasted quite similar, the calamari was excellent. Overall, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I’d happily give this place 4.5 stars!

We found our way into the Blind Burro and really appreciated the food and atmosphere. The place was a zoo because of Comic-Con so we had to expect service would be slower. But our server did well but slow. Food was awesome and we saw a Roper Romp. Woo hoo!

Been twice and had mixed experiences. Overall food is overpriced, good not great. Perfect spot for watching sports and hanging out. Friendly and welcoming service. 2nd visit I got food poisoning very badly, but often times that is not the restaurants fault. Could have just been a bad item. I’d go back if others wanted to for a game or to hang out, but wouldn’t be my top choice for my own event.

During my recent work conference, I was lucky to find The Blind Burro right across the street from my hotel — what a gem! Erika greeted me with genuine warmth and recommended the bacon-wrapped jalapeños, which turned out to be an unforgettable treat. The perfect blend of smoky, spicy, and savory flavors made it a standout dish. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and drop by — you won’t regret it!

This spot is like block from the Padres stadium so you can enjoy a meal and drink before you enter or a drink after. The average cost a plate is $23, I would recommend paying the $2 uncharged for the corn, well worth it, definitely better then rice or beans. For a starter I would get the salsa flight, it comes with 4 salsa a flavor and spice level for everyone. They have outdoor seating with shade cover for those nice days, and great for people watching. Good restaurant decor, a lot of seating plus they also have to bars with seating at both. The quality of the is decent, nothing rave about, but a good spot for an outing with friends.

I had the coffee rubbed salmon tacos, black beans, and street corn. It was all really delicious overall. Adding to lime to the street corn enhanced the flavor. House hot sauce was also a great compliment to the tacos. Bit noisy but about what you'd expect for a bar / restaurant in the gaslamp.

The restaurant offers an extensive selection of tequila and flavorful Mexican cuisine in a lively and upscale atmosphere.

El Agave boasts of thousands of tequila bottles, only issue is, they're the owners private collection. This place competes with the Museum of Tequila in Maxico City! The good news is, they do offer over 500 brands to the public and a very well stocked bar, so chances are you still get to have a shot of your favorite with your meal. So make sure you stop by and enjoy yourself.

Parking is a little tight, but very worth it. They had a veranda open for dining when we were there and the view and breeze made for a great atmosphere. We ordered three entrees and an appetizer. Everything was outstanding. Just go, and maybe stop in downstairs for a rare tequila to go.

I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet the restaurant was during my visit—perhaps it was dinner time, or maybe the prices are a bit higher than average. Either way, it worked out perfectly for me. The food and service were truly exceptional, and I can confidently say you won’t be disappointed. The Milo Don Julio was outstanding, and the portions were incredibly generous—I couldn’t even finish my meal! I also tried the quesadilla de flor de calabaza, which had a unique presentation, more like an empanada, but it was absolutely delicious. I would love to come back and try their lunch menu next time. This place is truly a hidden gem worth revisiting.

The service was great, and we went around noon when it wasn’t too busy. Still, it took a little while for the food to come out. The flavors were decent overall, though the grilled octopus was a bit overcooked and slightly bitter. Otherwise, a nice spot for lunch with friendly service.

Oh my. A Chili Relleno that bursted with tender steak, peanuts and seasonings that had me wanting to lick my plate! A perfect Tequila Mojito to wash it down and our attentive and friendly server Alberto made this special girls night out perfect. A very intimate and cool spot. Highly recommend.

I wished I could give El Agave 5 stars, but sadly the host is very rude and condescending and lets down the whole experience. We had a reservation and once there, was told it would be another 15 minutes. Since the host area is small and there was line behind us, we told the host we’d wait downstairs. 5 minutes later the host is calling on my phone and complaining that he cannot see outside the host podium and in aggressive tone, asked we still wanted a table or not. I’m sure that there is a better way to say your table is ready, so would encourage some training on courtesy. Once seated however, our server Sebastian was great and was really helpful on advising us on the type of mole dishes they had. Everyone in our group enjoyed the appetizers and entrees along with the cocktails. For the food it’s worth going again, but would also explore other options in the area first due to the initial experience.

El Zarape Restaurant is a vibrant gem in the heart of San Diego, celebrated for its authentic Mexican cuisine that truly stands out. This cozy eatery offers an impressive array of dishes, including mouthwatering seafood tacos and burritos filled with unexpected yet delightful ingredients like lobster. The chicken burrito is particularly noteworthy, featuring juicy meat complemented by flavorful pasilla peppers. The menu at El Zarape breaks away from the ordinary, showcasing unique combinations that surprise and satisfy diners' taste buds.
Excellent local spot. Fun take on Mexican food. Home of my favorite burrito right now: Chile Relleno burrito with added shredded chicken. Come early as sometimes they close before time listed on Google. Haven’t had a bad burrito experience - haven’t experiment with much else of the menu to be honest.

Everything we got was super flavorful, i ordered camarones a la diabla and husband got chicken enchiladas, finished every bite! This is a tiny hole in the wall with really amazing burritos and San Diego style Cal-Mex options. You can get lobster or scallops tacos and burritos, fish tacos, etc. They have horchata and Jamaica, both are excellent. For 5 bucks extra, they will wrap your burrito with a quesadilla and it's worth it! Their salsas are home made fresh and very delicious.

We stopped late at night, right before they closed. The service was great and I loved my burrito. Very fresh ingredients and home made sauces. Tasted very clean. The carne was tender, not too greasy. Soft tortilla. Will definitely be back!

Excellent seafood entrees. The shrimp burritos and tacos are the best! The prices and portions used to be very fair. Sadly no longer the best deal in San Diego for quality, taste, and service. Update: Tried the adobado taco. It was very good, so we'll add it to our faves. Prices have increased again, but quality remains the same. Update: Prices have increased again! Update: Prices have increased again and the burritos are 1/3 smaller. Quality is still good, but prices are no longer fair. Update: Got the Shrimp Burrito and Fish Taco combo plate, and the Fish Chimichanga. Everything was very tasty. Update: Got the Shrimp Burrito and Fish Taco combo plate, and the Shrimp Chimichanga. Everything was very tasty, but the Chimichanga was not fried long enough and was not crispy. Update: Prices have increased again. Got the Shrimp Burrito and Fish Taco combo plate, a grilled Mahi-Mahi taco and a shrimp taco. Everything was very tasty.

Aqui Es Texcoco is a delightful eatery that pays tribute to the rich culinary heritage of Texcoco, Mexico, renowned as the birthplace of barbacoa. This casual spot specializes in traditional lamb barbacoa, where whole lambs are wrapped in maguey leaves and slow-cooked to perfection.
Best Barbacoa in town! I have been coming to Texcoco for many years, and they never disappoint. Their ingredients are always fresh, and the food is Amazing. My goal is to try everything on the menu, which I am close to already (Including the Chapulines) aka Grasshopper tacos. My favorite choices of meat are the cabeza and costilla.

I was recently here for dinner when looking for some halal Mexican food. This came up on a search and was highly recommended and it absolutely did not disappoint. We tried multiple items including the lamb barbacoa, tacos, and quesadillas and were happy with all of them. The meat was very tender and the food in general was very flavourful. Highly recommended!

Traditional Mexican Lamb Barbecue. The flavor is strong. I took the less risky path and chose rib meat (head and tripe were the other two options). The green sauce is incredibly spicy, I made the mistake of putting too much on at first. I could barely swallow my first bite, I’m an amateur! Overall, it was an interesting experience and the lamb was good.

Wow! Some of the best halal Mexican I’ve had in a while. The green sauce with chicken and lamb was to die for. Tried both green and red sauce enchiladas; green had more flavour and was more satisfying but both were delicious. So many menu items, you’ll find something you like. The salsas and pickled onions on the sides are very spicy so be careful. The service is friendly and great and prices are fair. Can’t wait to return!

The food was good, but the service was disappointing. I couldn't help but notice that Mexican families seemed to be served more promptly, while others, including myself, were left waiting. I asked for a to-go box and was completely overlooked, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. It took about 15 minutes to get the check and another 15 minutes for someone to take my payment, despite my card being clearly visible on the table. Staff walked by multiple times without acknowledging it. Although the food was good I would not recommend coming here.
Aznswagboi1 — Google review
The place was not busy and we were immediately sat. They had the baseball game on which was nice. We had a full order of barbacoa which was really good, it came with a good sized side of consume and enough tortillas. I tried moronga for my first time, it's definitely something different 😅. My boyfriend tried other tacos but it didn't seem as good as the barbacoa.

I came to this place hoping for good Experience and some good food. Upon my arrival the staff were just leaning on counter tops and didn’t even look like they wanted to tend to me. The restaurant was completely empty not one costumer in there. I saw a mother come in with her daughter must have been at least 6 years old begging to use the bathroom and they literally told this 6 year old baby girl she had to buy something. I felt so bad about that little girl crying saying needs to use the bathroom and couldn’t understand why these adults would not allow her to use the bathroom. Made me loose my appetite

Lolita's Mexican Food is a go-to spot for classic Mexican dishes, serving breakfast burritos and combo plates all day long. One of their specialties is the carne asada fries, which they claim to have originated in the late 1990s. These feature seasoned Black Angus steak, shredded cheddar, cotija, sour cream, and guacamole over French fries.
California Burrito Ranking (19) Embarking on a quest to rank San Diego’s California Burritos! I’m now at stop number 19 on my Cali Burrito tour around San Diego, and today it’s Lolita’s Mexican Food. Product: They served up a big, hot burrito. First bite—bam! That sauce inside totally hit the spot. I’m guessing it’s sour cream-based. The meat was super flavorful with solid seasoning, and the fries had that perfect crunch. Hands down one of the best Cali burritos I’ve had in town. 10 out of 10 Service: The girls behind the counter were trying to be friendly, but they seemed kinda flustered or distracted. It threw off the vibe a bit. 6 out of 10 Atmosphere: The café’s big open space makes it feel chill. There’s no strong Mexican theme in the decor. Some spots weren’t the cleanest, but the staff cleaned up quickly. The outdoor seating area looks pretty cool though. 8 out of 10

Haven’t been to a Lolita’s in over a decade! They were always my go to taco shop (in Bonita) & their slogan always stuck “patience is the essence of fine Mexican food” they stand by that & let me tell you, over 10 years later they still got it! 👌🏻 Tried this Clairemont location and it was equally as good as the one in Bonita. Took forever but worth the wait !

Always come here for to go or dine in. I’ve going to Lolita’s for a long time but I never knew there was one here! Now that I do, I stop by when I can. The food is always good and their service is fast. They have have two tvs usually having different things on it. Plus there’s a charging ports whether you have just the cable or the the box with the cable it’s there! They have a patio outside so if you want to eat outside you can and it’s very pretty too! Definitely a must go when you have a chance!
L.R — Google review
Lolita’s used to be a regular part of my rotation and I’ve seen a few posts on social media complaining about the amount of fries they use in their California Burrito to reduce costs on other ingredients. Turns out those complaints are a part of a larger pattern and this is how they’re making their food now. This is what my Cali burrito looked like for lunch today and it’s just embarrassing. It’s one thing to keep prices low and do stuff like this, but when you’re increase prices faster than the competition and on top of that you’re pulling this BS, it’s a slap in the face to your customers. There are way too many other Mexican food options in SD. After 15 years of being a Lolita’s supporter, sad to say I won’t be coming back here anymore.
Andy B — Google review
Lolita’s current rating is far outdated. Their once beloved California burrito has become a cash grab for the business as it’s now 95% french fries with only the scent of carne asada and cheese. Please see photo of this borderline criminal burrito!

Is the wait time a gimmick? On their wall it says “Patience is the essence of fine Mexican food” which leads you to believe everything is made to order. I indeed was patient and waited almost 30 minutes, but my burrito came out cold. Halfway through my meal, the staff dropped off some trash in front of my table. I was also patient with them to remove it, but it kept me company until I finished.

Old Town Mexican Cafe has been a beloved San Diego establishment for over 40 years, serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and hand-pressed tortillas made fresh daily. The restaurant's signature dish, the Carnitas Plate, pairs perfectly with their renowned Pico Pico Margarita or one of the 115 varieties of tequila available. In addition to its culinary offerings, Old Town Mexican Cafe is also known for its intimate music venue that has hosted performances by renowned artists.
Authentic Mexican Experience – A Must-Visit! If you’re looking for truly authentic Mexican food, this place is a hidden gem! The atmosphere feels like you’ve stepped straight into Mexico – even most of the staff speak only Spanish, which adds to the charm and authenticity. The menu is huge, with an incredible variety of dishes to choose from. Everything is made fresh to order, and you can absolutely taste the difference. The tortillas are handmade right on-site, and they’re some of the best I’ve ever had – soft, warm, and full of flavor. It does get very crowded, especially in the evenings and on weekends, so I definitely recommend making a reservation if you want to avoid a long wait. That said, the food is more than worth it. Highly recommended – this spot is a must for anyone who loves real Mexican cuisine!

This place!! So good that we came back twice before going back to LA If you come for breakfast or lunch/dinner you won’t be disappointed! They have so many staff on the floor so you’re always able to chat with someone. Also as soon as you walk in you see in front hand made tortillas and let me tell you i usually do not like tortillas, I’m the person who destroys a burrito or taco because it’s too much tortilla. This tortillas if it was breakfast or dinner I INHALED with no shame too. If you’re visiting please treat yourself!!!

We ordered 2 burritos and the food was decent, but based on the reviews I had higher expectations. The burritos had more potatoes than meat which always feels like a filler to me. I will say the margarita was good and the servers were great! Service overall was slow but it’s a busy place so that’s not surprising.

I love the old school look and feel of the restaurant and is it ever a machine - you will be shoved in and out and through as quickly as possible. Service is just OK, they are clearly only held accountable to turning tables. Food is average and clearly flavored for tourists. We recently hosted our daughter’s wedding reception at The Cottage and it was nothing short of spectacular. We had the entire restaurant to ourselves (40 guests) for under $5000 -that is hard to find in La Jolla. They created a wonderful food & drink menu for our guests that included appetizers, entrees, beer, wine and 2 specialty cocktails. The food was phenomenal—fresh, beautifully presented, and raved about by all our guests. The atmosphere was warm and elegant and the service throughout the evening was flawless. The tables were decorated beautifully, the layout was perfect -we even had a space to dance! From the moment we started planning, the staff was attentive, professional, and genuinely invested in making the day special. Casa de Reyes is a lively Mexican cantina located in the heart of Fiesta De Reyes, offering outdoor dining with a view of the historic park. The restaurant provides a vibrant atmosphere with free nightly performances on an adjacent stage and plenty of entertainment for families. Guests can enjoy generous food portions and large margaritas, including shareable punch-bowl sized options. The establishment's central location within the marketplace allows for a great ambiance and excellent service.
I had the steak and shrimp burrito and it was excellent. The portion was generous, the flavors were bold and well-balanced, and the burrito came smothered in a creamy, cheesy sauce with a drizzle of green salsa that gave it a little kick without overpowering the dish. The steak was tender, the shrimp were cooked just right, and everything held together well without being overly heavy. The rice and beans on the side were classic and delicious — comforting and well-seasoned. Chips and salsa were brought out right away; the salsa had a unique ceviche-like tang to it, which was unexpected but pretty refreshing. Service was fast and super friendly. My food came out quickly and the staff was attentive without being overbearing. It was a perfect mix of laid-back and efficient. Great spot for a casual but flavorful meal in Old Town. Bonus: solid beer selection and plenty of shaded outdoor seating. I’d definitely come back.

Casa de Reyes is the type of Mexican restaurant with both great atmosphere & service to match. I remember when nearly all Mexican restaurants had this old Mexican/Spanish colonial aesthetic. Located in the courtyard I’m reminded strongly of heritage, & thats something missing from modern Mexican restaurants. I ordered the Steak and Shrimp burrito with rice (Im not crazy about beans). The flavors were phenomenal & satisfied my Mexican pallet. The coffee was also perfect. Simple & good. I was reminded greatly of a Mexican cafe I grew up eating at as a child that no longer exists. To give me that comfort of memory thru food is a wonderful thing. Highly recommend Casa de Reyes.

El Indio Mexican Restaurant and Catering has been a beloved fixture in San Diego since 1940, offering traditional Mexican cuisine in a laid-back setting. This family-run eatery is renowned for its budget-friendly prices and extensive menu featuring classic dishes like enchiladas, tamales, burritos, quesadillas, and more. Notably, El Indio is credited with the creation of taquitos (rolled tacos) in Mexican-American culinary history.
Loved it! Best old school Mexican American food I’ve ever had. If you study the history of Mexican food it used to be considered filthy in the pre segregation era. Mexican Americans began to Americanize recipes to get Anglo Americans to eat it. Hence the chili tamale. This gave me a 40s feel and the food was so fresh. As a chef with over 20 years of experience this is a must try in SD.

I feel betrayed by Google. This place has always been terrible, but I thought I would give it another go since it had a 4.5 rating. I got the surf and turf burrito for about $18. There was a puddle of grease in the burrito, I had to spit out about 1/4 of the meat because it was tough gritle and the worst part, the guacamole was from over ripe avocados, sweet and disgusting. You know what I mean if you have ever had bad guacamole before. I don't understand why there are always people there. There are a LOT of better, cheaper options in San Diego too. So sad.
Karina G — Google review
The El Indio Mexican Restaurant always seems busy whenever we go by it. I had eaten there once before several years ago. I wasn't impressed then. And I'm not very impressed now. Overall, the food was good. I enjoyed the beef machaca plate. I like eggs, the low level of beef in meal was disguised. I dont eat rice so I skipped that part. The beans were tastie. The meal came with steamed tortillas and I selected the corn. They were okay. We ordered a bag of fresh plain chips. All of the precooked chips were seasoned. I'm not a fan of preseason chips. They cooked a small order of the plain chips. And here was the item that I didn't like from our previous visit. Only different. Last time, the chips were heavy, under done, and chewy. This time they were hard. Not crispy. Tough. Hard. Like, becareful you don't crack your crown, hard. We took the leftover chips home, but no one wants to eat them. When we eat at other Mexican restaurants and bring home the chips, they don't last two days. It's been two weeks. The service was adequate. You order at the register and you pick up your order at the register. It's all self serve. The atmosphere! Since the pandemic, El Indio created more tables outside, across India Street. And the restaurant installed loud speakers to call out the name attached to the order that can be heard from across the street. And it can rattle your ears from inside the restaurant's dining room. 2 stars for the interior dining. Will we go back? Skip the chips. The other food was good.

After watch Guy Fiats Diners drive in band Dives I was so excited to come here. I drove 2.5 hours and didn’t eat all day. They have a free parking lot and outside seating. There was no wait and the people working were very friendly and helpful. The food was pricey and cold when we got served. The smell of the enchiladas sauce was so bad. The food was totally inedible. The salsa was ok but even the chips were not good. We got a refund and I woke up the next day with the worst case of food poisoning. The bathroom was dirty and smelled and they had flies in the windows flying around see pictures. Ten out of ten 100% do not recommend. Very sad I was so excited to come here.

I had high hopes for this place. After an over night, this where I wanted to go because of the ratings and reviews. Well, seeing and tasting it for myself, I couldn't get anymore disappointed. 5 stars! An absolute gem for breakfast lovers who appreciate a Mexican twist! The food was outstanding – fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The cappuccino was just perfect: rich, smooth, and served with care. The service was warm, welcoming, and incredibly attentive – you instantly feel at home. The vibe is relaxed and charming, making it the perfect spot to start your day. If you’re looking for a breakfast experience with a unique touch, this place is a must. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Stumbled by this place in my visit to North Park, and upon entering the diner, I was greeted by the warm, inviting atmosphere that only a classic diner can provide. The friendly staff made me feel right at home, and I sat at the counter, eager to indulge in some comfort food. When my pancakes arrived, I was immediately struck by their size... huge! The were fluffy, golden-brown perfection. Stacked high and they looked absolutely irresistible. The first bite was pure bliss—soft, airy, and bursting with that homemade flavor that you just can't find in a chain restaurant. Each pancake was perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of crispiness on the edges. I opted for a the granola and banana toppings, but the diner also offered an array of toppings, from fresh berries to whipped cream. Overall, my pancake experience at the diner was nothing short of delightful. Whether you’re a pancake enthusiast or just looking for a comforting breakfast, I highly recommend stopping by this place.

I loved this place. We stopped by on our way to the border CBX and it was a great experience. Food is delicious, marvelous presentation, and service is so nice, friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was the best... thank you guys.

I don’t know if they can’t smell it or it’s just my sensitivity. The inside smelled like old people diapers or sewage. We ended up sitting outside. Other than that, the service was amazing and so was the food. The pancakes were huge and fluffy. The steak breakfast was okay, was mostly a scramble more than actual steak and potatoes.

This place has amazing reviews! I may have got overhyped and then was let down :/ the vibe is perfect. Totally beachy, unassuming, laid back, clean, vibey. The staff - totally cool, relaxed, charming. The food - womp womp :( beautiful presentation, but lack of flavor and too hipster for our liking. I had seen rave reviews for the chilaquiles l, which are my fav and was the number 1 reason why we came. However, they were extremely untraditional chilaquiles with completely different flavor profiles… and this one was bland. It was spicy but had no real flavor. My husband wanted eggs and chorizo, and all they had was soy chorizo. Again, pretty hipster for us. My husband ate it, but wasn’t amazed. My son loved his strawberry banana pancakes, though, and we all ended up eating them haha (portion was huge!!!) My son ordered a chocolate milk and they brought it out looking like a cute little latte which was a fun touch. Overall the experience was good, we just wish the food had lived up to the hype!

Looking for a place to eat for brunch?? Look no further. This is a Great brunch spot in North Park to have a quick bite to eat. There’s an open patio for your dog to come join you. I love that there’s breakfast and not breakfast options. My favorite is the loco moco and coffee options. Parking is a bit hard to find but doesn’t mean it isnt a good neighborhood to walk off those calories.

The food was good, the potatoes were amazing, I really did not like the sausage, it was so so so sweet we were shocked. It actually did not taste like meat at all. That kind of taste tasted like candy. I can’t explain it. I did not like it. The eggs were some of the best eggs I’ve eaten. I love their bread too. I would come again and try other things on the menu too.

From the very first impression, everything felt welcoming and well thought out. The atmosphere struck the perfect balance between lively and comfortable, making it easy to relax and enjoy the moment. The decor was tasteful, with little details that added character without being overwhelming. The service stood out as one of the strongest aspects. The staff were attentive, polite, and always ready to help, yet never overbearing. Every request was handled with a smile, and it really added to the overall experience. The food itself was outstanding. Each plate arrived beautifully presented, with aromas that set the stage for the flavors to come. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the dishes were seasoned and cooked with a level of care you don't always find. Every bite carried a nice balance of texture and flavor, showing that the kitchen knows what they're doing. Drinks were also a highlight, with a wide variety to choose from and options that paired seamlessly with the meal. By the time dessert arrived, it felt like the perfect ending dash indulgent, Satisfying, and thoughtfully prepared., it was the kind of dining experience that leaves you already planning a return visit. Greek food, genuine service, and an atmosphere that makes you want to linger just a little longer.

Breakfast Republic has such a friendly and energetic vibe. My hubby loves a good Bloody Mary and boy does this place have a good Jurassic Bloody Mary! The food is delicious and they have their own brand of hot sauce and ketchup. We went twice during our trip to San Diego!!!

Breakfast Republic was a memorable breakfast experience for my husband & I during our stay in SD. I was hesitant to order the Chilaquiles but omg I am so glad that I did. They were delicious! I paired it with Cafe de Olla also SO good. My husband got the Traditional Eggs Benedict. The service was great. Overall I’ll definetly return next time we are in town.

I am not a big breakfast person, but I could eat here daily (if only there was one in my backyard)! The food was awesome. We enjoyed the omelet and "pancake flight." And oh, the mimosa was the best I have had in a really long time! Will plan to eat here any and every time we visit beautiful San Diego!

Big shout out to Marissa and Gustavo who were the most personable and sweet servers. We loved this place for our first breakfast in San Diego. It seems that I give 5 stars often but if I could give a 10 it would be here at the Breakfast Republic. Best avocado toast anywhere (which is my go to when eating out for bfast) adding an over-medium cooked egg. Hubs ordered shrimp and grits which is a highly desired dish here. Ambiance is relaxing and laid back.

Breakfast Republic was an absolute delight. The food was great. The service was super fast and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Gustavo at the G street location was the best!! I loved the overall ambiance of the restaurant and it’s clearly a fan favorite based on how much business was coming through! If you’re looking for great fast service stop by.

Got myself a breakfast jambalaya, which was absolutely phenomenal. Between my friends, they got pancakes, steak and eggs, and french toasts that all seemed very tasty. My only gripe is that our receptionist didn't seem too friendly when we asked for a table of 14 and that we had to wait a decent while despite some tables being empty inside. Otherwise the food and service was pretty good.
Jaewon L — Google review
Great experience. Don't be fooled by the long line- it actually goes by quick. We signed up and walked around, all other breakfast spots in the area, had longer wait times. People are super friendly and so open to give recommendations- which were on point. I tried the shrimp grits- I love them and figured if I didn't like them- my family was willing to share their food (which was basic traditional breakfast- so you can't mess it up). My shrimp and grits were so good and their brussel sprouts were amazing- don't worry they might look a little burnt but they were so good. We tried their three-pancakes as well (don't judge, lol.. yes, it might have looked like a lot on our table but we needed to eat enough to hold us over for our long drive home). Anyhow, our fave was for sure the pineapple pancake. No regrets here, we will def be back here the next time we're in San Diego.

Popular and busy brunch spot in downtown San Diego. The food is good with some vegetarian options. They do a good job managing the crowd. Parking will be difficult to find since its in the downtown. We ordered Avocado Toast and 2 Veggie Breakfast Toastadas. Both of then were 4.5/5.

Las Hadas Bar and Grill is a vibrant Mexican restaurant located in the heart of downtown San Diego, known for its delightful seafood-focused menu. This cheerful eatery offers an array of handmade margaritas and enticing happy-hour specials that make it a perfect spot to unwind. Originally discovered through the FindMeGlutenFree app, Las Hadas caters to gluten-free diners with a dedicated menu, although it's important to note that cross-contamination may occur with certain fried items.
Looking for seafood in the Gaslamp Quarter? Try this fab Mexican restaurant! We had a great Guac and salsa appetizer with Paloma cocktail for starter. Good service in an upbeat and lively atmosphere. Noise level was less than the bar focused establishments in the same area. Entrees were, of course, Fish Taco, plus an amazing Enchilada Del Mar that was loaded with large shrimp. The enchilada sauce, jalapeno creme and salsas were all excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant!

First night in San Diego, we fancied some Mexican food, we tried this little spot based on the positive Google reviews. We weren’t disappointed, the food was really tasty, comforting and just what we wanted. Great selection of drinks, although we just opted for a couple of beers. There was a nice vibe, a good buzz without being too loud. lots of happy diners getting stuck in. The service was really friendly, from front of house to our server and anyone that passed the table. The service was also super speedy, if anything too quick… we did feel like we were in and out in 30 mins. We didn’t ever feel rushed… but didn’t really feel like we’d relaxed into the place before we were heading out. Would still definitely recommend 👍🏻

The tacos and drinks did not disappoint. We came back the next day to try even more tacos. We tried the shrimp, chicken, steak, carnitas, and the Cali tacos. The flavor of the different tacos were so good.

We were in town on vacation for my son’s 4th birthday and looking for a quick bite when we stumbled upon Las Hadas — and I’m so glad we did! The host had amazing hospitality and literally reeled us in from the street… lol. I’m thankful he did! The food was delicious — especially the tacos with mango. Everything was flavorful and fresh. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in San Diego!

Phenomenal! The food hits hard. Drinks are good. we didn’t come out of Peak time… 3 PM. I feel like parking might be an issue at peak times as well as maybe getting in. It’s not a very large restaurant. But it would be worth the wait! I cannot express to you how good the food is! Don’t miss out on the coconut shrimp or guacamole! The coconut shrimp is larger and meater than the picture portrays. The taco in the mahi-mahi taco were great too! We are not local but we WILL be back! Wow!

First time dining based on recommendation. I'm usually a solo diner exploring new places. Elena was totally chill and awesome, pointing out the go-to menu items. Surf and turf burrito was well worth it. Cocktails were great. Immediately forwarded pictures to other friends in isolated states who crave a good burrito when visiting San Diego. $30-50 reflects burrito and 2 drinks.

We stumbled across this place today. I have lived downtown for several years, but however, have never been. Today we went and I am so glad. We sat at the bar. Located in La Jolla, California, Jose's CourtRoom is a renowned sports bar and eatery that has been serving up delicious Mexican cuisine since 1972. The restaurant offers an extensive menu featuring huge combo plates and refreshing margaritas, which can be enjoyed either indoors or on the lively patio. Originally established as La Plaza Restaurant and El Toro Bar in 1929, the venue has a rich history dating back to its roots as a railway station location.
We looked for a fun place to get authentic Mexican food while visiting the La Jolla area and this was top of the list and it certainly was as recommended. We had a variety of burritos with the three amigos, California, veggie and surf and turf. All of them had something special and each person was very pleased especially with the wet taco green sauce. Service was equally good and the atmosphere of the place was equally good knowing this was the old courtroom for the area. Definitely check it out.

We were walking around La Jolla and decided to stop in. We decided to sit outside, which was the move. If you do. you will get a great view of the La Jolla shoreline. We were looking to eat an appetizer and have a few beers before we went out to dinner later. We had the platter of nachos with the guacamole and other assorted salsas ($17) as seen in the photos, which was very good. Very fresh ingredients. We tried the Estrella Jalisco lager and found a new favorite. If your looking for a spot to enjoy the scenery while having a few drinks this is the place. Overall the expierence we had was a good one. The bathroom as very clean and tidy.

This was our second time visiting this Mexican restaurant, and overall it was a good experience. We sat outside and the weather was sunny and perfect — the staff were thoughtful and even brought us an umbrella for shade, which we appreciated. I ordered the mango margarita, and it was refreshing and delicious. I had the fajitas, which came with rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, and tortillas — not my favorite, but still decent. We also ordered the Three Amigos Burrito, and it was a hit! Huge portion and super tasty. One downside: we were charged for extra sauce without being informed, and there’s also a surcharge fee when paying with a credit card. Despite that, the service was nice and we’ll likely come back again.

Amazing. Where else in SD area can you be FULL and DRUNK for $80 for TWO people. The pitcher of margaritas just regular lime was incredible. I had the enchiladas, bomb, my fiancé had the burger and omg… immaculate. 10/10 will be here again!!!

Taco Surf PB is a popular spot steps from the boardwalk, offering customizable Mexican food in San Diego. The place exudes a Baja coast vibe with its surfboard-heavy decor and old surf stickers on the metal screen door. Despite its no-frills appearance, the food is top-notch and reasonably priced. The fried fish soft taco, served with pico, cheese, guac, lime, and salsa, is particularly delightful.
We really enjoyed the Build Your Own Breakfast Burrito. Both our Burritos were quite Delicious and perfectly made. The manager and staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Ronald F — Google review
Taco Surf PB has the perfect vibe for a restaurant near the beach. Surf pictures and boards cover the ceilings and walls, and the service is fantastic. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and gave helpful recommendations. I had the five rolled tacos (beef), and it was good, but then I had a bite of my wife's surf & turf burrito, and it's on a whole other level. Honestly, don't waste time on anything else. The surf & turf burrito is dream-worthy, and I was filled with regret about my own order. Next time I'm in the area, I'll definitely be back.

Just a killer place. If you don't know them by now look them up on youtube. They have a killer California burrito that is worth the drive from anywhere in the country. Great owner fantastic ingredients and staff.
Ryan ( — Google review
I’ve been coming here for a long time and used to love this place, but what happened to me was really shocking. I ordered a California burrito to go—paid extra for cheese and sour cream—and ended up with a $18 burrito that was basically just fries and carne asada. It used to come with way more. Honestly, it felt like I paid premium price for half the product. It’s not the first, not even second time, this has happened, but it was the first time I decided to say something. I went in calmly, just to share my feedback. I wasn’t rude, I wasn’t asking for a refund—just being honest. And the woman behind the counter was incredibly rude from the start. No apology, no understanding. Instead, she snapped, “I’ll give you another burrito if you give me the one you ate.” When I explained that I had ordered as take out and already eaten it, she said something that honestly sounded like a suggestion to throw it up if I didn’t like it. Yes—you read that right. It was sarcastic, condescending, and completely out of line. I wasn’t asking for anything free. Just some basic respect as a loyal customer. A “sorry” would’ve been enough. Instead, I was met with attitude, humiliation, and disrespect.
Ioly S — Google review
Exactly what you’d want out of a San Diego taco shop. Food comes out fast and hits the spot. Tried both a breakfast and cali burrito, both were terrific. Burritos are massive and there’s no skimping on the meat.
Kyle — Google review
$14.50 for 2 tacos rice and beans. Normally I would compliant about the price of Mexican food and the lack of what you get. It this place is no normal portion spot. I’m having the two fried fish tacos where jam packed with flavor and not greasy but crispy and juicy. The rice and bean are typical solid quality aids. The two tacos were more than worth the price. So filling that I am writing this review while I’m the restaurant. If you in SD and want food near the beach. This is the spot to stop. Parking in the back off the busy street and the lady and gentleman in the back was loud, articulate, and ready to serve with a smile. They have a very large menu, but I felt very comfortable with how they help me navigate the choices and apparently they have the best burrito in San Diego voted. We got a couple of those also. 5 ⭐️

This place was so good that when I was visiting, I went two mornings in a row!! The stuffed French toast was to DIE for, the pancakes melt in your mouth, & the Asian rice brunch dish was sooo good. There is literally nothing bad on this menu. The mimosas were some of the best I’ve ever had too! Not too sweet & fresh orange juice taste. I would highly recommend!

Charming restaurant serving breakfast and sandwiches for almost 3 years. The service is superb, the food delicious, and the restaurant itself is cute. The lamb burger was thick, very juicy, and delicious. The fries that came with it were excellent, where the outside was crispy and inside tender. The three egg scrambles were all very good.

Such a cute brunch spot! The food was delicious, the space was clean and welcoming, and the staff was so friendly. They even surprised us with a free churro pancake (which is delicious by the way -way too good!) for our late friend’s birthday that we were celebrating. All of the special touches made the experience extra special. Highly recommend for a tasty and fun brunch!

Pair the excellent food with the cozy environment and you’ve got the perfect brunch spot.

So delicious! We had the stir-fried rice bowl, One bluecorn meal flapjack meal, and my kiddo has the one pancake meal. We also ordered PH Sunrise and Cran Pomegranate mimosas and both were worth the $1 upgrade for the prosecco instead of champagne. A restaurant I would recommend and will be coming back to the next I’m in San Diego.

Founded by award-winning chef Isabel Cruz, Barrio Star offers modern Mexican Soul Food with influences from Latin and Asian cuisines. The menu features healthier versions of classic dishes, such as tamales, alongside specialty drinks like the Roasted Jalapeno Blackberry Margarita.
I went there for a business meeting and was blown away by the killer food and vibe rocking at this restaurant. It reminded me of the restaurant El Camino that used to be in Little Italy. The chip and salsa were great but you have to get the guacamole. It compliments the chips so well. The lunch hour on a Friday wasn’t very busy so we got great service. I am sure service would be good when it’s busier too. The decor in the restaurant was super cool and I am sure I’ll bring my wife here for a date night soon.

We stopped into Barrio Star on Cinco de Mayo, and while it was understandably very busy, the staff did a great job attending to everyone as quickly as possible. We ordered the margarita flight and the marg of the month (mango chamoy) was delicious—highly recommend! My husband had the steak tacos, and I went with the mixed taco plate—everything was pretty good overall. I especially appreciated that they hand-make all of their corn tortillas—such a nice touch. All in all: lively vibe, good service, and decent food. Would go back to try more!

Cool little place with outdoor seating. Dog friendly. Bar and indoor seating available. I mostly enjoyed the fries out of what we ordered. I found the food looked beautiful but what I tried wasn't for me. I had the tamal carnitas. It was dry. The jasmine rice and black beans bland. I plucked the carnitas from the tamal and ate that and the steamed kale. The torta was okay. The fries were perfection! Quite pricey! Didn't get a chance to try the cocktails but it seems they'd be good. Price here is too expensive imo. Ambiance and atmosphere were great. Might be nice to enjoy some fries and a cocktail and hang out

This was our first time at Barrio Star & we were not disappointed. The homemade chips & salsa were delicious. The blood orange margarita was a good pour and flavorful. The tacos were all good .. although my favorite was the steak taco. The meat was tender & had a nice smokey flavor. The tortillas were homemade and thick, so they did not fall apart even packed with meat. The staff were all welcoming and helpful. We will go back again.

This was our first and LAST time here. I ordered the fish tacos and substituted the rice & beans for tortilla soup ($4 extra). I asked for my tortilla to be "crisp" and the waiter said, they "hand press" corn tortillas to order. I told him I didn't want cold tortillas. Well, the tortilla soup tasted & looked like baby food with a teaspoon of corn on top. My fish tacos, where do I start,,, the THAI (at a Mexican restaurant, smh) slaw was SO watery is softened the tortillas. I had to pour out the water!!! The fish was cold. The put paprika on the chips and fries. Chile tasted like tomatoe with paprika. When the waiter came to give us the check, he asked if everything was alright. My husband lied, being a nice person. When I told him what was wrong, he got defensive credited my meal and sung a bunch of excuses. I told him the server never checked if we needed anything. I had to flag her down to get an extra plate (which I never got). To me this is a beginner restaurant.

Morning Glory is a trendy eatery in downtown San Diego that offers a global breakfast and brunch experience with a stylish ambiance. The restaurant's interior features Instagram-worthy elements such as rose-gold accents, tiled floors, pink booths, and unique wallpaper designs. It's a popular spot, especially on Saturday mornings, so be prepared for a wait. The menu boasts an array of pancake options, including classic and Japanese-style souffle pancakes with whipped cream.
Let's start with the bad. Uncoordinated individuals like myself, beware of the barstools. They are tippy. Other than that the service was friendly and knowledgeable. The menu was so fun and the entire esthetic of the place was just perfect. You could show up dressed to the nines or in jeans and a comfy shirt ( I even saw someone in pjs) and feel welcomed at home. The mixture of patterns and textures was eclectic but made looking around so much fun. For food I had the breakfast carbonara and my partner had the souffle pancakes. The carbonara was rich but not too heavy with flavorful pieces of pork belly and just a touch of spice. The pasta was expertly cooked and the entire dish was satisfying. My husband said the pancakes were sweet enough without syrup he added berries and cream on the side which added too the tastiness of the dish. I had the old fashion and the bananas in pajamas. Both drinks were liquor forward with sweet finishes, but the old fashion had a more deep flavor profile while the banana drink was more like a piña colada with creamy notes.

We visited this restaurant on a Saturday to celebrate my son’s birthday. The venue is visually impressive, with a lively atmosphere and a strong sense of energy that explains its popularity. The wait for a table was just over an hour for a party of four. In terms of the menu, vegan options were limited. I selected the pancakes, which arrived in a generous portion. Unfortunately, the texture was very dense, making them difficult to enjoy, and I was unable to finish the dish. The coffee, however, was very good, and nondairy milk was available. Service was adequate but unremarkable. While staff acknowledged our birthday celebration with a glitter-infused shot, only one was brought to the table, which felt like an incomplete gesture for a group of four. Overall, while the atmosphere was enjoyable and my son appreciated the experience, the quality of the food and the service details suggest there is room for improvement.

Alright this is a bit of a hard one. We visited twice during Twitchcon weekend. Once on Thursday morning, and then once on Tuesday afternoon. Thursdays visit was very pleasant, delicious food, excellent service, and good drinks. Tuesday however, the day I write this, for some reason had a completely different vibe. Despite ordering the same dish, it was drastically different. I enjoyed their Steak and Eggs on my first visit, but upon second review my steak was tough and chewy, with fried onions that were completely soggy with grease. The “dirty” hash-browns gravy was thick and tasted of cream and the bottom of someone’s shoe. I really dislike leaving negative reviews, but I was really disappointed with our second visit, especially with such a stellar performance the first time around. Overall? This may be a hit or miss venue, with some stellar items and some that may fail to meet expectations. Unfortunately the bad experience sort of rained on our last day together. Not to mention syrup is a $5 up charge on dishes that really need it.

They definitely pass the vibe check! So beautiful inside. Great music. Amazing staff. The food & drinks are so fire. The steak and eggs are my favorite. The fried rice smacks! The soufflé pancakes- DELICIOUS! The staff is so friendly and welcoming. Kailee was our server on our first visit. She was a delight. Our experience was so great that we doubled back a second day (before leaving SD). Jacob’s service was wonderful as well. It was a true pleasure meeting Thomas too! Very friendly & made us feel like part of the family. Can’t wait to visit again when I’m in San Diego!

Great brunch place! They have some very interesting options to choose from and does not restrict itself to one type of cuisine. The khachapuri and the lobster omelet both were pretty good. The best dish we had was the souffle pancakes, it was very gooey, warm in the middle and was very well made. A must try if you are a brunch lover. The restaurant doesn't take reservations and you have to be there to get on the list. Also the wait time can be pretty high and we had to wait 35 minutes to get in.

I visited this charming restaurant with a lovely pink-themed interior that gives off a soft, welcoming vibe. The ambience is one of the highlights—really pretty and perfect for a casual brunch outing. It’s the kind of place you want to spend time in, soaking up the atmosphere. That said, be prepared for a bit of a wait—our turn took about an hour in the wait-list, which could be a dealbreaker if you’re really hungry or in a rush. The food was an absolute delight. The souffle pancakes were the standout—fluffy, light, and they practically melt in your mouth. Definitely the highlight of the meal! We also tried their orange and vanilla hot chocolate, which was comforting and a lovely twist on the classic. It had a nice balance of sweetness and flavor, perfect for sipping while relaxing. We also opted for Khachapuri, which was a nice, fulfilling addition. The cheesy, doughy goodness really hit the spot and felt hearty without being too heavy. The only downside was the service—the staff seemed quite busy and not very attentive. It wasn’t bad, but there’s definitely room for improvement in that area. Overall, I’d still recommend this place for a leisurely brunch. Great ambience, good food, and a menu that offers a nice mix of comfort and novelty.

This was an interesting experience. The service was fantastic in my opinion. Attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. They did joke around which was fun because I hate getting a robot when trying to order food. I ordered the morning wood old fashioned, and the chilaquiles with Birria on top. The old fashioned was perfect. It had a nice blueberry flavor you could just taste a hint of. I loved it! The chilaquiles were good, not great but good. They had a decent flavor and the chips were cooked extremely nice! However the problem I ran into was the Birria, this might have been the most bland pile of meat I’ve ever had. Even my girlfriend hated it. I had to pull it off and put it on the side of the plate. I don’t know if this was just a bad day for their Birria, but I won’t even give it another chance that’s how bad it was. Overall id come back again, the service was great, drinks were on point, and the food minus one thing was excellent. I’d love to give their other foods a chance.

This establishment is undeniably an “experience” destination, and it’s easy to see why it has earned a place on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list. The art deco–inspired design creates a charming, almost whimsical atmosphere that feels both stylish and inviting. Service, too, had its bright spots—our server Linda was attentive, warm, and truly a highlight of the visit. As for the food, the results were more uneven. The iced coffees arrived only after our dishes had already been served, an oversight that dulled what should have been a seamless start. The soufflé pancakes, however, were exceptional—delicately airy, beautifully presented, and worth the visit alone. A side of sausage, on the other hand, was unfortunately overcooked, sacrificing flavor and texture. The breakfast fried rice leaned heavily on salt, though with the addition of chili paste it transformed into a vibrant, balanced, and memorable dish. It’s a small adjustment the kitchen should consider, as it would elevate the plate significantly. In the end, the restaurant dazzles with atmosphere and has the potential to deliver truly standout dishes. Yet the inconsistencies in execution left me wishing the culinary experience matched the excellence of the setting.

Don Bravo is a Mexican restaurant in La Jolla that offers a mix of traditional and non-traditional dishes. Established in 1980, this family-owned spot serves up authentic Mexican flavors, including grilled seafood tacos, burritos, and Mexican combo plates with rice and beans. The menu also features non-traditional offerings like hamburgers, ceviche, and churros. With its casual and friendly atmosphere, Don Bravo provides indoor and patio seating on a first-come basis.
During my recent visits to Don Bravos Authentic Mexican Cuisine at 5504 La Jolla Blvd in La Jolla, CA, I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of their food and service. On consecutive evenings, I enjoyed their carne asada tacos and carnitas tacos, both of which were flavorful and satisfying. The no-frills, fast service, combined with the delicious food, made for an excellent dining experience. I highly recommend Don Bravos for anyone seeking authentic Mexican cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere.

This place was full of flavor and affordable. I was only in town a short time and went two times because of how delicious it was. I tried the fish tacos which were amazing and the habanero salsa yum! Also the chili relleno burrito and a regular bean and cheese burrito. The beans are hands down great. For dessert I had the churros and yum yum yum soooo good and fried perfectly. I will definitely be back if I go back to that side of town. Do not pass this one up. Sooooooo good 🙂

It was OK, but given the price, I didn't think it was good value. You can take a look at my picture and see if you think it was worth it. Technically the food wasn't bad, but Don Bravo was simply not competitive in a city like San Diego, or even just one neighborhood like PB.

Good place to grab some Mexican food either after or on your way to the beach. The food is tasty and while it's not AMAZING! It's also not bad. Recommend it if you're looking for something quick and casual.

Tried a few street tacos. Carnitas and also fried fish. Fish was better. Carnitas were a bit dry. Tortillas (corn) were good. Thick enough that you only needed one per taco. Best thing was the price. Street tacos were $3 each. My girlfriend got a two taco platter. $8 for two. Both reasonably priced. Her grilled Mahi Mahi were better than either of mine.

I ordered the $14 quac, salsa, and chips app which was underwhelming. Upon receiving, the look of disappointment came over my face as I jokingly asked “is this about to be the best quac of my life… it must be for the price.” I was reminded It also came with chips. You cant be serious… I then asked where the salsa that came with it was. They pointed to the free salsa bar lol

Every time I'm in San Diego, I stop here for the best fish tacos of my life. These pictures are almost 2 year apart, and the tacos taste exactly the same. My wife got an Enchilada plate and loved it (though she would have like more cheese, but we're originally from Wisconsin so there you go). You will NOT be disappointed coming to Don Bravo. Simply the best.

I’ve been going here since I was younger and have never had an issue. The food has always been mid, but I enjoy supporting small businesses and it’s the closest Mexican restaurant to my house. Customer service has always been lacking, but tonight it felt exceptionally rude. Not only were staff giving me and my group dirty looks, but they were also rushing us with our order, even though it was a slow night. I was blatantly disrespected by the woman working the cash register (whom I’ve never seen before, I assume she works the food truck), and on top of this, the food given to me was poorly wrapped, luke-warm, and was considerably small/ill prepared compared to the many other times I’ve ordered this meal. I’m incredibly disappointed by this, and I will not be coming back after years of it being a go-to.

The menu features a variety of gourmet tacos, including the classic pescado taco with battered fish, cabbage, onion, tomato, and chipotle aioli. For a unique twist, try the Veracruz mahi taco topped with green olives, capers, sautéed cherry tomatoes, and white wine sauce.
A prominent San Diego chain with “luxury tacos” guaranteed to provide both variety and quality no matter what location you go to. North Park’s location stands out as it is smack dab in the middle of one arguably of the best food & beverage hubs in ALL of San Diego.

Love eating tacos at City Tacos. Such unique combination of tacos that are all wildly delicious. Look forward to eating here anytime I’m in San Diego. The prices are reasonable at around $4 to $5 a taco.

I had an amazing experience at City Tacos today the server who helped me had such great energy, personality and customer service. She honestly made my visit. It’s the kind of experience that makes you want to come back just because of how welcome you feel. The tacos were delicious too but the service really stood out. I usually go to other locations but I might have to make this one my regular spot. Thank you for the amazing experience!

Its nice to have a place with a variety of vegetarian tacos that werent just cactus or beans and cheese. We got the city zuchini and chili relleno. Each had a good mixture of veggies and sauce pairings. The tortias were a nice stretchy which was good considering the amount of filling would have ripped straight through a corn tortia. They had a sauce bar that was pretty good but the mango sauce was more of a syrup than a sauce. On its own it was too much but in the taco it worked. Overall a good spot.

I stopped by City Tacos today for lunch.. and it turns out it was National Taco Day, such a fun surprise!! They had this spinner wheel game going on and with a little motivation from the team I ended up scoring a free taco 🤗 The energy from the staff was incredible, They were both so enthusiastic, friendly and super thorough and informative with their recommendations and they were right, the grilled shrimp taco was absolutely delicious and I’ll be back soon redeem my free taco voucher for another!! 😂🤤🌮 The food was amazing but it was really the team that made the experience so lively and welcoming. Great vibes and music, delicious tacos, and top tier customer service. I’ll DEFINITELY be back! 👍🏻🔥🤗

Don't even know where to begin with this place. Everything was fantastic! Tunes were awesome, had me dancing and singing in my seat. Service from the team was helpful and kind. Food was magnificent! I tried each of the traditional tacos and all of them are must tries! Guacamole was yummy! Green and red salsa was on point. Spicy creamy dipping sauce is a must try. Loved this place!

Nestled in the vibrant North Park neighborhood, Ranchos Cocina has been a beloved family-owned gem since 1994, offering an enticing array of traditional Mexican dishes with a refreshing twist. This charming eatery is particularly known for its impressive selection of vegan and raw options, making it a haven for those with dietary restrictions. The menu boasts over 50 items, including mouthwatering tacos, tamales, and tortas that cater to both meat lovers and plant-based diners alike.
This is by far, one of the best burritos I’ve ever had. I was so excited to find this place, they had a mushroom meat substitute and I was blown away at how tasty it was!! I couldn’t even tell it was a plant based burrito. The flavor profile alone is just amazing. I live like 2 hours away and constantly am tempted to make the drive just to enjoy this delicious food! The service was excellent, the decor is beautiful, and the entire experience was a vibe. Already planning my next visit! Thank you Ranchos Cocina!!

Wow, wow, wow!! We went in search of SIPZ (vegan restaurant) and was met at the door by a closed sign. We were pretty disappointed and walked only a few steps when we noticed that the sign outside of this lovely restaurant stated that it had plant based options! We decided to check them out and to our pleasant surprise, they had pretty much all the classic Mexican dishes as a vegan option!! Guys, let me tell youuuuuuuu... You have never had a vegan horchata as good as this place! Trust me, we've tried many and BOY, this place has a very VERY delicious vegan horchata! We got the Vegan Chorizo Quesadilla, the Vegan Ceviche, Vegan Potato Roll Tacos and the Vegan Chicken Tacos, along with the Vegan Horchatas, all to go. We were on our way somewhere and pretty much ate in the car but we were devouring it like we hadn't ate in days! Lol We decided to return and try them again another day, the lady that attended us the first time recognized us and was super nice! We decided to dine in this time, the inside was super cute, really nice Mexican chill music, and the bathrooms were spacey and clean! We had the vegan horchatas again OF COURSE, this time we had the Vegan Chicken Quesadilla, the Vegan trio Enchiladas, the Guac and Chips and the Vegan ceviche. All 10/10! I was surprised that when searching for vegan restaurants, Ranchos Cocina doesn't come up as an option or on any lists, this place deserves a shot out! They know what they're doing and offer EVERYTHING imaginable in a vegan option! My heart felt so much joy to see vegan menudo on the menu!! Parking is available in the back of the restaurant.

We were recommended this place for good vegetarian mexican food and they were definitely right. The variety of different good options was pretty great. The staff was super nice as well. Carmen was great with recommendations, was fast and friendly. We got the soyrizo borito that they made in house with quinua which actually worked well. The homemade sauces they give you are super nice as well. Both were fresh and packed with flavor. They weren't too spicy and the mango one added a nice fruitiness. Overall a great place and we will definitely be back.

I can’t say enough good things about this place. It’s honestly probably some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had— vegan or not. Everything has so much flavor. Service is always fast and friendly. Their two hot sauces (the mango habanero and the mint, I believe) are also probably the best hot sauces I’ve ever had. They also offer complimentary chips and salsa which is rare these days. And they have great happy hour deals!! On top of already decent prices and large portions. Love coming here fr

Tacos El Gordo is a beloved family-owned Mexican eatery that has been serving up mouthwatering Tijuana street tacos since 1972. With locations in San Diego and Chula Vista, this no-frills joint offers an authentic and affordable taco experience. The menu features a variety of fillings, including carne asada, al pastor, and their popular fish taco with crispy white fish, zesty salsa, and a squeeze of lime.

Being from Texas, naturally, I am reluctant to write this review. These were some of if not the best tacos I’ve ever had in my life. Price is a bit lofty, nearly $5 a taco but they do pack the tacos with meat so they are very filling.

We've tried several Mexican food during our trip to California and Tacos El Gordo was one of the best, they don't skimp on the ingredients. We arrived at 5:00 pm on a weekday and it was packed. Ordering was easy and efficient because they had separate lines for the different types of food and everything was labelled clearly. We will definitely visit this place again.

I don’t even know where to start—this taco spot blew me away. I ordered 4 tacos (adobada, lengua, chorizo, and cabeza) and each one was absolutely beautiful. Fresh, flavorful, and just perfect all around. But the real star for me was the Mulas de Adobada… hands down one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. It was magical—fantastic flavor, cooked to perfection, and just unbelievably good. Honestly, this place is next-level amazing.

The softest and juiciest lengua I've had in Cali. Hands down home made! Well run business. Nothing can beat this place, seriously. Parking in the back but most people park near JC Penny and walked over
Ana N — Google review
I really wanted to like this place, but honestly, it was a letdown. The food looked messy and thrown together, the tortilla was soggy and greasy, and the meat was overcooked and dry. The sauce tasted more like watered-down dressing than salsa, and it completely overpowered everything else. On top of that, the presentation was sloppy — my taco looked like it had been sitting out too long before it reached the table. For the price and hype, I expected way better flavor and quality. Sadly, this didn’t taste fresh or authentic. I won’t be coming back.
Jeyson R — Google review
My go to for tacos in Vegas, but first time trying it in SD. Definitely has the same great tasty food and funky line up system, but this one seemed packed with tourists making the system worse. Thankfully I know from my trips to Vegas that you don’t have to wait in separate lines if you want to try different meats, but they weren’t as happy about it here as they are in Vegas. Asada is the way to go here, but always order an extra taco de Adobada and tripa to round out my meal. Really large parking in back, but tables were pretty packed and had to wait to eat. Suggest ordering to go when really crowded. Seriously felt like a busload of tourists were dropped off there or something. Service was pretty good and they didn’t like it, but led me to the front of the line for my other meats, so cool enough.

Madi is a new and popular brunch spot that opened in 2022 in Normal Heights. It's owned by the same people behind the well-known Madison on Park restaurant. The ambiance is modern and nice, with limited bar seating for four people. Reservations are recommended to avoid waiting, as it can get busy around 10 am. The food portions are good, similar to Madison Restaurant but with a focus on brunch dishes and drinks.
Have special dietary needs or wishes? Try their Build Your Own Bowl. It’s a godsend! Available all day, you can design a breakfast or lunch that’s vegan, egg-free, grain-free, and/or gluten-free! I included a photo of my husband’s “bowl”. He loved it! For gluten-free folks, our server was extremely knowledgeable and even double checked about something she wasn’t 100% sure about. We were so grateful! My latte was delicious, with a very velvety foam. Yum! Madi is a stylish cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend!

Excellent place for Sunday morning after a long and excruciating Saturday night get together 🥳 The cocktails are dangerously smooth, and the vibe is effortlessly cool. Huge shoutout to Johnny, our server extraordinaire, who made everything seamless with charm, humor, and perfect timing. He turned a great meal into an unforgettable experience. Nice atmosphere, but wrong food choice MADI is always packed, which actually says a lot about the place. Luckily, they have plenty of staff and everyone seems busy but organized. I came alone for breakfast and got a seat at the bar almost immediately — that was a nice surprise. I ordered the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs, but honestly, I didn’t enjoy it. The dish was maybe 10% meat and 90% potato — plus more fried potatoes and two eggs. Not what I was hoping for. Probably just the wrong choice on my part, because everything else coming out of the kitchen looked good. Overall, great service and pleasant atmosphere, but next time I’ll definitely try something else.

Casual brunch spot! They generally have moderate wait times, we waited for about 30mins before we got our table. The food took too long to come. They have some good drinks and pancakes. Their churro waffles and lemon blueberry pancake is must! Their sandwiches looked nice. We order chicken chipotle melt but was a dissappintment. The chicken was undercooked and overall sandwich was very dry and tasteless. The side of fries was stale, could taste stale oil on them.

We sat inside but they do have a small patio (it's a dog friendly restaurant) The food was really good. Highly recommend churro waffles to share. I ordered the GOAT sandwich and it was really good. Adalberto's Mexican Food is a low-key fast-food chain offering classic Mexican dishes with a drive-thru option. The restaurant provides inside seating and parking, as well as a few outdoor tables. While the wait times can be long due to popularity, the food is delicious and reasonably priced. Although some visitors have noticed changes in the quality of food and service, it remains a convenient spot for quick and tasty Mexican meals.
California Burrito Review (Stop #5) Embarking on a quest to rank San Diego's California Burritos! The fifth stop is Adalberto's Mexican Food. Product: A large, hot burrito served up quickly—hardly any wait. The flavor stands out from the others in the ranking because they add fresh herbs, which was an unexpected twist. Overall, it was tasty, with a good selection of sauces. The price is average for the city at $12. Rating: 7 out of 10. Service: The service was fine, with no special or particularly friendly interactions. Rating: 4 out of 10. Ambiance: Great vibe—bright colors, original and beautiful outdoor tables, and a spacious, open setting. It’s a comfortable and pleasant place to eat. Rating: 8 out of 10.

Okay spot. Got a cali burrito but had to add guac since it doesn't come with any. Tasted okay but some of the meat was hard/old and chewey. Also tried the carne asada fries, they don't come with sour cream so I had to pay extra for it and got extra cheese too. Those were bomb!

If you’re from San Antonio Texas, this will be the closest thing you’ll get to some good burritos, especially since San Antonio is known for flour tortillas and for the soft flour tacos like bean and cheese tacos if you miss Tias tacos this will be the closest you’ll get!, my husband and I moved out here i desperately longed and cried for San Antonio Mexican food especially while pregnant when I tried the beef tacos combo plate it was so delicious the fresh lettuce in them is absolutely amazing it’s fresh everytime I go, amen to that! I love this place and I’ve been trying different burritos from there the Texas burrito is a 8/10 if you like chicken, bean and cheese burrito is a 6/10 add some salt and some really hot green sauce mwah chefs kith 🤌🏼💋 every time I go I try something new so I can post a review for others to be curious about. But I love this place because it reminds me a little bit of home!

Food is okay if youre in a bind and have no were else to go its decent nothing to drive out your way for. Salads are good. Ladies are friendly. It's always busy here and the drive thru is awkwardly set up so you have to be close to the car behind you for them to hear you. I use to come here all the time because it was open late and quote on quote cheap but seems the prices are raised. It never really dawned on me until I realized two burritos were 27 dollars. I won't be going back.

The mixed burrito is awesome here! The chicken is super moist and flavorful, cooked to perfection. Their salsas are really tasty as well. They have a 24-hour drive thru, as well as inside and outside seating during regular hours. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their food soon! Update: I returned to Adalberto’s with my friend to try out some of their other burritos. We ordered a breakfast variation burrito and a California burrito. Both were decent, though neither packed the *wow* factor of the mixed burrito I had previously. I think chicken might be the meat to order here, and I definitely recommend the mixed burrito as a #1 choice.

During our Californian road trip 5 years ago, Adalberto was our cantine. Going here again 5 years later revive so much good memories. It’s still the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Everything is perfectly cooked and to do for. Beside that the food is fantastic and delicious, the prices are insanely low. It’s a great value for price. I highly recommend Adalberto if you’re around, you won’t be disappointed.

Claire's on Cedros, nestled in Solana Beach, is a charming and rustic eatery renowned for its New American cuisine. The cozy spot offers a delectable breakfast and lunch menu featuring bistro classics made with locally-sourced ingredients. Guests can indulge in an array of breakfast favorites such as pancakes, eggs, omelets, and French toast while savoring delightful baked goods from the in-house bakery.
Flavor: A Service: A Tea: A Solo dining: A This was undoubtedly the best meal we had in Solana Beach. The French toast and hash browns were top notch and the service was just as good! It was a great morning patio experience that left me wishing we hadn’t tried this place on our last day.

We were pleasantly surprised to be immediately seated on Father’s Day. They sat us in the back garden patio next to a beautiful tree. Our waitress was attentive, even with a full restaurant. Loved my sidecar of OJ that I could add to my mimosa to make it my way. Pete loved his chilaquiles and appreciated the reasonable portion size. I ordered the secret menu item, a breakfast burrito. It was the most reasonable priced breakfast item on the menu! Perfect portion size vs a breakfast burrito that feeds 3 people. I enjoyed a stroll around the restaurant to admire the colorful flowers. Great food, thoughtful and attentive service and a romantic beautiful atmosphere.

It’s not often that I find a breakfast restaurant that has too many great menu choices. I couldn’t decide and it’s was a big dilemma to narrow it down. I’m guessing I’ll just have to return on my next visit into town. Seriously, this place was great and we really enjoyed not only the food but the ambience in the back patio. Extra points for being puppy friendly including their own tasty menu. We look forward to returning in the near future.

Since being turned on to Claire's back in March, my wife and I have dined twice more - once for breakfast and, more recently, lunch - during our visits from Tucson, AZ. Each time, food quality and service were OUTSTANDING...somehow better than the last. Server Patty was friendly and appropriately attentive. And there was no judgement about us sharing the Sweet & Savory Burger. Instead, Patty provided recs for other places to eat and drink in and around Solana Beach. Those may complement, but never replace Claire's as our go-to!

First of all, such a cool space with outdoor covered dining, suitable for the several pets we saw at their owners' feet. One from our party had been here a while back with her sisters and she had been craving it so much that she convinced us to take a road trip down from Orange County just for this brunch. And I can tell you, it was so worth it. The two ladies split the Risotto Benedict and added a pancake. They were very kind to split the plate in the kitchen for us. My buddy got a Cali Omelet and I got the server's recommendation, the Blackberry French Toast. Wow, that was good. I don't know what the french toast was stuffed with, maybe a cream cheese, but whatever the combination, it was so tasty. Now I am craving it, and I want to take another road trip just for brunch at Claire's.

Beautiful place, and multiple patios surrounding the building. I had a yogurt bowl with fruit, everything was fresh and delicious. The French toast was outstanding as were the waffles I tried. Omelets are also a great choice. The service was friendly and quick. Also had the chai tea and it was done with cinnamon. Restroom was very clean

We hadn’t been to Claire’s in years until a nice lunch with friends on Sept 16th. Our server Patti was sweet, attentive & efficient, she has a lovely personality. We asked about menu choices & she provided good input. My husband’s Egg Benedict was good, very tasty Hollandaise with just the right amount of lemon juice in it, he should have asked for extra! My Turkey & Goat Cheese Melt on Sour Dough was good too, tho skimpy on the Turkey & the Cheese. The little butter cookies at the end were such a delicious treat! Loved Patti & will ask for her next time!

Claire’s on Cedros is a brunchy gem with both cozy indoor vibes and sunny patio seating—and yes, free parking (a small miracle in SoCal). The food is solid, but the cocktails? Next-level. Think: brunch with a buzz, in the best way. Service was friendly and efficient, and while it gets busy during peak hours, it’s worth the wait. A great spot to sip, snack, and soak in that laid-back Solana Beach charm.

Richard Walker's Pancake House is a casual dining spot known for its generous portions of pancakes, baked omelets, and crepes served in a simple setting. Since 1948, the Walker family has been renowned for providing top-quality family dining experiences. The restaurant offers an array of delectable dishes such as Blueberry And Sour Cre Crepes, Chocolate Explosion, Cherry Kijafa Crepes, San Diego French Toast, and Pigs In A New Car.
I was attending a meeting at the convention center and had breakfast here for three days in a row. The omelets come with pancakes and they were phenomenal. flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The service was excellent every time. I especially loved sitting at an outdoor table with a heater, which made the atmosphere cozy and enjoyable. Highly recommend!

I am staying in downtown and saw this breakfast place super busy on the weekend. So I tried it on a weekday and it was not too busy, I was able to get a booth around 10:30 am. I was not aware Richard Walker's had multiple locations. For food I ordered the Baked Pecan Pancake which has Georgia Pecans and Cinnamon Glaze. This was such a unique pancake, it had nice flavor and sweetness! It was quite large for one person so I also took some of it for home. Food was solid but servers were really attentive and nice!

Paid $50 for breakfast for 2 people that included a burned apple pancake. (Compare my photo to the others on here). Apologies were the only compensation I received. Bacon was good, and we were seated quickly. Stained glass pretty.

This restaurant always has a line out the door and now I know why best breakfast I have had in years. They offer a baked omelette that was out of this world. Cody's La Jolla is a popular brunch and lunch spot known for its clever comfort food, ocean views, and great people-watching on the patio. Located above La Jolla Cove's sandy shores, this seaside cottage offers a homey atmosphere with scalloped umbrellas, wicker barstools, and indoor palms.
Absolutely loved my brunch here today! I had the steak and eggs along with the French toast, and both were fantastic. The steak was cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and exactly how I asked for it. The French toast was pillowy, rich, and just the right amount of sweet. What really made the experience stand out, though, was the service—prompt, kind, and incredibly attentive from start to finish. Highly recommend!

Had an awesome breakfast at Cody’s Place! The view is amazing, and the vibe is super chill. The staff were really friendly and made us feel right at home. We tried the Surf & Turf, steak and eggs, pancakes and an omelette. Surf and turf including omelette was super tasty and cooked just right, pancake and steak Ang egg was just alright. You can tell they use fresh ingredients. Perfect spot to enjoy a relaxed morning with great food and a view. Definitely coming back!

We had such a great experience at Cody’s! The vibe is super relaxed and welcoming, with a perfect beachy feel that matches La Jolla. The staff was really friendly and attentive. We had ordered a French toast to share and he ended up comping us because he had forgotten to put the order in initially. The food was delicious — everything tasted fresh and flavorful. We especially loved the crab cakes benedict and lobster roll, and the portions were generous. Definitely one of those spots where you can just kick back, enjoy amazing food, and soak in the San Diego atmosphere. I’ll definitely be coming back!

The place was very nice and our waiter was friendly. However, the food was average and due to that felt over priced. We had an app and three entrees: crab & artichoke dip, the burger, fish & chips, and the lobster roll. The fries were not crispy enough and were kind of cold like they'd been sitting there. The dip was amazing and probably the best part. The fish while delicate had almost no seasoning. Lobster roll was good. Overall, decent but would not return.

My boyfriend surprised me with an impromptu date at Cody’s La Jolla on a post Labor Day Thursday, and we had such a great time I had to come post a review. I used to frequent their old location down the street after a morning in the ocean, but this was my first visit to their new reimagined and elevated dining experience. I ordered the highly recommended bouillabaisse for lunch while he opted for the bacon and cheddar omelette with griddled potatoes and sausage and a flat white coffee from their all day breakfast menu. Everything was fantastic. The bouillabaisse was full of perfectly cooked seafood and such a generous and portion that even after sharing the bread I took an extra meal’s worth home as leftovers. He thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast he had been craving for a while and noted the excellent coffee was served in the proper size cup. We had my dog with us, medium fifty pound size and well behaved. They were so kind to her, letting us choose a table where she’d have room to lay down out of the way, bringing her water along with ours, and while they no longer have a printed dog menu, they cooked up a plain burger patty for her that looked so good I would have stolen some if it didn’t arrive in a dog bowl. It was not too busy when we arrived but even with if all the tables were full there is plenty of space between them. Service was exceptional from the front of the house to our attentive and thoughtful servers. Thank you for a wonderful ocean view experience on this perfect weather day. We’ll definitely be back to try the crab chowder!

Their pancake flight offers fluffy, syrup-laden options while their benedicts come with unique twists on hollandaise sauce.
You can tell we loved it by our last photo! Ha. This place is incredible. I have been to a couple of locations and this one was just as amazing. The food is beyond delicious. My husband is still talking about his pancake and I LOVED my bravocado toast. The flavors are so good! Our server was so chill and great and the atmosphere was busy and fun. Yes, Luis... our server... this Snooze in San Diego, IS better than the one in Scottsdale! 😆 Luis was great server, friendly efficient and really did serve! The food was very good. I really enjoyed the link sausage, and the pumpkin pancakes (cooked smaller upon request) were very good. We enjoyed them just wirh butter and the pumpkin flavor popped. Nice fresh eggs, cooked as ordered. We were in a bit of a time crunch and Luis brought the check when requested. Very nice experience, especially enhanced by Luis.

Really great food, service and experience overall. It was so great not to have to break the tie between the specialty pancakes and omg fresh toast by doing them all on a flight. The grits were the best ive had in a long time, no additional seasoning needed (savory). My Mr loved the gluten free pancakes and was glad he could get a pancake flight too. Sometimes, the gluten free menu is limited and he doesn't get many options, at Snooze, he had the same experience he'd have if not for the food allegey. All was very good! Everyone left full and happy.

La Puerta is a vibrant Mexican spot in the Gaslamp Quarter that offers a trifecta of tacos, tunes, and tequila. Known for its legendary Margaritas, this downtown hotspot features an outdoor patio where you can enjoy their famous spicy Margarita during daily happy hours from 3-5. The Sinaloan-inspired dishes and libations reflect the authentic flavors of Mexico, with family recipes made fresh each day without artificial flavorings or enhancers.
One of the best Mexican restaurants, and also very vegetarian-friendly! I highly recommend this place — the food, ambiance, and overall experience were excellent. What made it even better was our server, Sydney, who went above and beyond to ensure that all the dishes on our table were vegetarian. Her attention to detail and warm service really stood out. A great spot for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike!

We just landed in San Diego and we were hungry. So we look for a place closer to the hotel and we saw the reviews for this place and decided to try it out. Locked in the hostess was very friendly sat us down. The waiter came up with water, which was perfect cause we were dying of thirst at that point and he told us that we had just walked into the happy hour. All the drinks, no matter what was on the menu or half off which I ordered a Mezcal and pineapple concoction Amazing I had two of them. Then we ordered some potato flutes and shared that together with a side of the hottest sauce I have ever had. And I like hot and this hit me hard, but love every single deposit. My husband ordered the sampler tacos, the pork, the shrimp, and the chicken and he enjoyed all three of them, but like the pork the most. I ordered the chopped salad with the chicken because I’ve had a Serrano vinaigrette, which was mouthwatering. Definitely definitely try this place out. The atmosphere was chill, relaxing. The car is awesome.

Saw an insane amount of reviews here plus walking by, this place is always busy. Also huge portions here as well! We started off ordering a large Cantina Chopped salad which probably should have been a small or medium. This had romaine lettuce, cabbage, corn, cucumber, tomato, carrot, panela & cotija cheese, cilantro lime dressing, chipotle crema, tortilla strips, avocado, serrano-lime vinaigrette. Then I ordered the Viva Mexico Tacos Especial which is 3 Tacos served with Refried Beans, rice, rajas con crema, cotija cheese and limes. As for the Tacos it came with Arrachera steak, melted jack cheese, grilled onion and poblano, avocado, panela cheese, crema. The Panela cheese was an absolute game changer. My partner got the Surf and Turf Burrito (Arranchera steak, shrimp, ranchero sauce, grilled onion and poblano, jack cheese, guacamole, chipotle crema). The food was amazing, I see why there is such good reviews for this restaurant. We also had room for dessert so we got the Churros which were stacked log cabin style and it came with some ice cream and dulce de leche. Amazing dessert. Overall service was insanely good too, always someone to refill water, food came out quick, any requests were taken fast! Definitely recommend!

This spot is absolutely incredible! From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us with genuine smiles and made us feel right at home. Our server was attentive, upbeat, and made sure everything came out perfectly. I decided to try the three-taco combo, and honestly, it blew me away. Each taco was packed with flavor — juicy, well-seasoned meat, fresh toppings, and warm tortillas that tasted homemade. The salsa had just the right kick, and the sides were equally delicious. The whole experience was so enjoyable that I’m already planning my next visit. Easily one of my new favorite places!

Amazing food!!! Quite possibly the best quesadillas I’ve had. Ask for them to make it extra crispy. The atmosphere is very simple for what I’ve seen in San Diego restaurants in Gaslamp, but I’m sure it’s what most people expect so it’s good enough. The food is so good it’s almost worth it though.

The restaurant prides itself on providing great value, delicious food, and excellent service while building relationships with customers and the community.
Went there last hour of brunch time! Their portions are ginormous- they’re known for that! We got the chicken something Benedict - great layers and good complementing flavors. The French Banana Latte was really good. Not too sweet but great flavor for sure! The server was great and attentive. We sat in a little squished in corner, I didn’t care for that. But overall good everything 😁 worth a try if you’ve never been 🤷🏻‍♀️

Amazing experience! Food was PHENOMENAL! Be very hungry or share a plate because the portions are huge! Food was very tasty and fruits were fresh. Service was 10/10. We were seated outside on the patio and it was the perfect vibe. Recommend making a reservation to avoid a long wait on certain days.

The best brunch spot in California! You gotta bring your appetite as the portions are colossal! You can honestly order a plate and share with someone else. This place was so delicious that we had to return the following day! The lavender/mint and watermelon lemonade were both incredible! Not too sweet and you can taste the fruit a true 5 out of 5! The menu is incredible with ample breakfast and lunch options. There was a specialty menu on a smaller paper. My wife ordered a crab Benedict. A blue crab cake on top of a biscuit with fried egg and some type of sauce. This dish was excellent and the combination worked well together and was a 5 out of 5! The banana foster French toast tasted as good as it looks! I would rate a 4.4 out of 5. The pineapple upside down flapjack was super delicious. Good texture and taste. I would rate a 4.6 out of 5. The sage fried chicken was a 5 out of 5 day one and a 4 out of 5 the following day. Both days the chicken was fried superb. Day one the seasoning was close to perfection! The eggs and breakfast potatoes both were good and the food presentation matched the taste. I would like to return and try the lunch menu as the meatloaf has ample good reviews. The service both days was five star! Everyone is friendly and ready to assist if needed. Would recommend anyone in the San Diego area that loves really good breakfast this is the place to visit!

Had to wait to be seated but the tables are very close to each other so it felt like we were on top of each other.

We came at about 9am for breakfast, and the atmosphere and staff was great! Very charming, friendly and quick! The drinks here were amazing! The visuals for the food are great! The esthetic seems to be the bigger the better! However, the taste of the food needs improvement. The waffles aren't sweet, the syrup isn't sweet to make up for it, the biscuits are VERY dry, the potatoes are undercooked and unseasoned, the chicken is unseasoned, the food came out cold, and more. It just just didn't live up to the hype for us.
Wendy ( — Google review
It was my first time there. I went in the morning and was able to get in without a reservation, but the table and chairs were too high, so there were a lot of customers waiting nearby right in front of the entrance, and the servers had to pass by a lot, so I couldn't enjoy a leisurely breakfast. I asked for a lower, more spacious table, but they refused. That was the only drawback. The latte was way too sweet too much sugar, too much whipped cream. The egg Benedict was ok egg was over cooked. Too much portion and the taste wasn’t that great.
T M — Google review
Had a reservation for 3. The hostess was very pleasant but I cannot say the same for the server. Service was extremely slow. Two parties that were seated after us were able to order before us and served before us. My spouse ordered avocado they brought out guacamole. Also requested fruit and served was unaware of what fresh fruit of the day was. As you can see from the photo two pieces of honey dew. Food was pretty good but nothing outstanding.

Clayton's Coffee Shop is a nostalgic, old-fashioned landmark that offers classic American meals, coffee, and pie in a vintage setting. The diner features cherry-red booths, countertop jukeboxes playing golden hits, and ice-cold milkshakes. It is known for its original horseshoe counter dating back to 1939. Guests can enjoy the historic ambiance while socializing at the iconic countertop or opt for sidewalk pick-up.
The service staff were very friendly and observant. The restaurant had a classic ambiance. The historic horseshoe bar was a great place to sit and enjoy our food. Our meal started well with tasty biscuits and gravy, and my fiancé's chicken fried steak was satisfying. We'll definitely come back, what a lovely spot.

This is a must see and eat location on the beautiful Coronado Island. This is our second time making it to this dinner and the atmosphere along with the service are just a great experience that brings you back to a bright 1940's. The variety of food including American and Mexican food provides a good mix for breakfast and lunch combination that will keep you coming for more. I enjoyed the Huevos Rancheros which was a decent portion with my eggs cooked as requested. Seating is limited, but the food and drinks comes fast so we got seated in a decent time. This place is a gem. We stumbled upon it on our last day of vacation as we were visiting Coronado island and on a 1.5 hr waitlist for what looked like a delicious but pretentious restaurant that was nearby. After finding out that a wait for a table at Clayton’s was only 10 minutes, we decided to eat there instead. We sat at the counter and our server Jaxy was great. My husband and I ordered her suggestion of the carnitas and chorizo hash with a cinnamon glazed pancake. My daughter had a hot dog and fries. Everything was delicious and the retro vibe of the place is super cute and colorful. The music was fun too; a combo of 80’s and 90’s alternative/new wave. Super happy we stopped in here instead because by the time we left, the other restaurant texted to say our table was ready. Thanks for the awesome time, Clayton’s - you made our day.

Great location for anytime of the day. Wasn’t too crowded on the two occasions that I have visited. Ordered the Prime Ribeye which came with a lot of sides. I would have to say that I’m only giving 3 stars because the dish overall felt a bit too greasy, vegetables were heavy with oil which I wasn’t a fan of. Was looking for something lighter. Fries were fried perfectly, would highly recommend. The steak itself was a bit greasy and thin, but it tasted fine. Would go to a steak restaurant though for steak next time. Will have to say that though the tortilla chicken soup was small, it was very good. Will be coming back to taste more of the menu.

My daughter and I tried Clayton’s Cafe for the first time. We went during the non busy hours so we did not feel crowded. We really enjoyed the classic 40’s cafe atmosphere. The service was excellent and our food was delicious. We ordered a BLTA with an egg, the Black Forest Ham croissant sandwiches , with sweet potato fries on the side. For drinks we ordered a coffee, and a matcha iced tea. Good quality food ! Photos don’t do justice! You definitely receive your money’s worth! We look forward to going back again.

Rockin' Baja Lobster in Old Town draws inspiration from the lobster village of Puerto Nuevo in Baja California, offering a bustling fish and lobster taco shop experience. The owner's childhood visits to this Pacific paradise have influenced the restaurant's decor and menu, featuring delicious Mexican seafood at reasonable prices. While some patrons feel that the food doesn't quite justify its price, others appreciate the flavorful dishes like sizzling garlic shrimp and tender steak.
I haven't rated a restaurant 5 star in a while but this definitely meets the standard. Went during happy at 3 pm on Friday. House Margarita was amazing, they did not hold back on the tequila. The lobster taco on the happy hour menu was the best I've had. All the palapa menu items were incredible and the lobster and shrimp were perfectly cooked and were brought out in less than 8 minutes. They have a killer self service salsa bar and everything was so fresh. Make me want to move to San Diego. Great place for families, friends and I was told that it is a great place for locals as well. Waiting staff were super friendly and attentive. Don't miss this place if you are in Old Town.

Food was delicious everyone was happy. We had reservations and were seated right away. There is $7 valet for parking. Seating at the outdoor terrace was nice, good for large group 5+. Lobster roll was delicious and very filling. The tacos were overpriced; the meat was tender, although the shrimp in the taco is spicy. The fajita was good, and enough for two people to share since it comes with sides too. The most popular item out of the group were the appetizers: calamari was so delicious and crispy, and the oysters with the flavorful sauce it comes with. There is a salsa bar thats self serve, wide variety. They served chips when you are first seated. And they serve mexican cola and fanta for drinks if you ask. Good spot in Old Town, would come again.

Fun spot with a Louisiana-style kick! We ordered the Big Baja to Alaska bucket with extra shrimp. Great presentation and really tasty. It comes with the Lobster Chowder, rice and beans, a Cesar Salad, and fried ice cream. The lobster chowder was delicious, and the salsa bar with chips adds a nice touch. Lobster and shrimp were definitely the highlights, though the king crab wasn’t quite as good as expected. Overall, a fun atmosphere with great staff and solid seafood.

For your eating experience its important to know about parking. In Old Town parking is a mess!! Here at Rockin they do have valet parking at $7.00 and there are some disabled spaces but like everything else its first come first serve. I am disabled and appreciate the accessibility of the main entrance with bathrooms right as you enter and depart the restaurant. The place lived up to its name it was "Rockin"!! Busy and noisy. I suggest not sitting near the bar area the business of the area combined with the noise and waiters running to the bar to get drinks is like a bee hive which is unnerving. I go to a restaurant to enjoy some sense of peace when I eat. Noise and the hustle and bustle of people moving around tends to make me feel rushed!! Rockin Isn't a place to just sit and enjoy a meal with some solitude and peace of mind. On the otherhand if you want to go to a place to "cut loose " be loud then this is your place. But let's talk about the food.I ordered the street tacos (3). The chips that were brought to me as I w a ited to be served were fresh crisp lightly salted. There is a chilli and hot sauce area to spice up your meal. Good variety of sauces. My server was Jesus. Excellent server Right on the ball!! The sangria was very tasty. And you must not go without enjoying a mud pie . OH MY goodness so delicious. And as I said bathrooms were right as your entering exiting the restaurant. Clean non slippery floors. Kudos to the staff for keeping the bathroom area clean. The prices for food and beverages are reasonable!! The question is: Would I go again YOU BET I WOULD A restaurant ALIVE IS WORTH THE DRIVE!! Easy yo locate just go to the Trolley station on Taylor St. head east you can't miss the huge archway that reads ROCKIN BAJA LOBSTER. Much better than that other place who have golden arches!!! Thanks Rockin keep on Rockin. See ya soon. LeCritique Rube in the Hood.

The restaurant experience was good, not much wait for a table for 2. We were given chips and had to get ourselves the salsa at the endless salsa bar. The food overall was okay, the portion was fairly small considering the price. The chicken, and meat were salty and the only great meal was the ceviche and it’s an appetizer 😂
Lisandro M — Google review
Thank you, Guillermo, who made our 1st visit there an adventure. Great recommendations and service. Taco sampler was so darn good (steak, lobster and shrimp). Tacos were literally packed to the top with meat. No useless fillers. We skipped the Kick Ass Sauce because we don't do hot sauce. The Mexican Street corn was wonderful and presented well. We will definitely be back.

Absolutely amazing food! We ordered the shareable bucket of food and split it between three people. It brought a large amount of food including shrimp, chicken, lobster, corn with cheese, tortillas, and even an individual bowl of rice and beans for each person. We were able to get more tortillas, limes, corn, and rice and beans if we desired. We definitely did not have any chance of leaving hungry from here because on top of everything else, the meal also included a fried ice cream dessert that was the refreshing sugar rush energy that I needed to walk around the beautiful Old Town surrounding this restaurant. Our waitress was the best, she happily answered all of our nonsense questions about the food and Old Town. I would recommend you eat here when coming to appreciate the history of the Old Town to reenergize with a savory and filling meal.

Not worth $25.00. When I ordered tacos I was shocked they were street taco size and for $25.00, plus the lobster taco had hardly any lobster.....mainly pico ...very disappointed. My friends also ordered tacos and the cost was the same but there portion size was way bigger a normal taco size....than mine... first time and last time ...for the cost ..go somewhere else..you can do way better for a $25.00 taco plate.

Coasterra, located on San Diego's Harbor Island, offers a modern Mexican dining experience with creative cocktails and breathtaking bay views. The restaurant boasts direct access from Harbor Drive and is known for its seafood specialties and two full bars. With its waterfront locale, it provides the perfect setting to enjoy the SeaWorld fireworks show every night. Adjacent to Island Prime, Coasterra features innovative Mexican cuisine with a Baja twist and offers both indoor and outdoor seating options.
Food was pretty good. Atmosphere was. Ice, though a little loud due to the wedding reception. Service was great, views of the San Diego Bay were great, and I recommend everyone visit. I recommend valet parking, it's $10, so it's very reasonable.

I went here with a larger party for my birthday. The food was phenomenal!! Definitely will be coming back for date nights or other events. The view was incredible with the restaurant being right on the water with the view of the skyline in the back! So gorgeous!! Service could have been better if the waiter was more friendly. He was very accommodating and said happy birthday to me, but you could tell he was little annoyed. We were a little undecided on the menu at first because it was just a tad different than their online menu but he mentioned his favorites and he had great taste because we could not stop raving about the food! I really had the best time here and will be coming back!

I would give a 3.5 rating. Beautiful view. Attention services for our large party. Cocktail drinks were delicious. Valet parking attendants worked efficiently. Food is too salty. Beef was not cooked to the desired temperature. Check the picture. Dessert portion was huge. Got a free dessert because the server brought out the wrong one.

We had a wonderful time! The food was really good and the view of the city and bay from the outdoor area was so beautiful, especially at night! Our server Wyatt was awesome. He was super kind, considerate, and checked in on us multiple during our meal. The best part was at the end of the dinner when they brought out a slice of cake with a candle for my mom's birthday, it was a really nice moment and the cake was delicious. All around great experience. Would recommend for special occasions as well as casual dinning.

Initial part of the experience of Coasterra is parking. Self Parking was super tight, we also saw there was extra parking if you go past valet after the fact but I will say the signage is not too noticable. We got seated outside and what a view, this is definitely the star of the show. For food we ended up ordering the Ancho Chili Roasted Salmon (toasted quinoa, green beans, shaved cucumber salad, pasilla cream) and the Rainbow Trout A La Plancha (cilantro rice, arugula, pickled carrot & onion salad, habanero, guajillo aioli). We really liked both dishes, the fish was cooked to perfection. I liked the Rainbow Trout over the Salmon. I think for the Ancho Chili Salmon, there was an overpowering Ancho Chili flavor. Overall the food was nice, the server was great and the view was amazing!

The ocean view was beautiful, and we really enjoyed the sea breeze. We originally came to try the paella, but it turns out it’s only available for dinner. We ordered other seafood dishes instead, and everything was fresh and tasty. The service was attentive and friendly. However, one of our napkins had a lipstick stain from a previous guest. They replaced it right away, but it did take away a bit from an otherwise great experience.

We were recommended to Coasterra by a local and it didn't disappoint! We ordered table side fresh guacamole to start and that was so delicious! I enjoyed their jalapeño corn lasagna while friends of mine enjoyed their enchiladas and street tacos. Definitely go around sunset to get AMAZING views of San Diego Bay and Downtown San Diego!

Love this area, the views are beautiful. Made a reservation in advance for my husband's birthday, they put him in the best seat. We were so grateful. The service was friendly and quick it made the experience that much better. We ordered a couple of drinks, my mixed drink was so yummy and pretty stiff. The nachos were so good we forgot to take pictures of them 😁 I had tanpiquena, the steak was flavorful, and the sauce was amazing. My husband loved his steak fajitas. I can't wait to go back for the wagyu burger. Perfect summer spot.

Nestled in the vibrant Mission Beach area, La Playa Taco Shop is a delightful taqueria that captures the essence of authentic Mexican cuisine. With its festive atmosphere and family-friendly vibe, this eatery offers a mouthwatering selection of traditional dishes like carne asada, carnitas, and fish tacos. The freshly-made tortillas are a highlight, perfectly complementing an array of flavorful fillings such as chorizo y papas and papas con huevos.
Stopped in for lunch one day during our trip after reading other reviews. I ordered the carne asada tacos with rice and beans. The tacos were amazing! The meat was flavorful and tender, and the fresh guacamole was some of the best I've tasted. Service was great and the food came out quick. Would definitely stop in again next time we're in San Diego!
Tom G — Google review
My first visit to this restaurant today and I ordered combo #9 - two carna asada tacos with rice and beans. The good: carna asada tacos did not disappoint, the meats tasted juicy, tender and with good flavor. The pico de gallo and guacamole made the tacos taste delicious. The bad: the portion size for rice and beans were tiny, they looked nothing like the photo that showed big servings of rice and beans on the side. The beans I must say tasted watery. Also, to my surprise there wasn’t a salsa bar. So if you want a side of carrots or jalapeño peppers you have to pay. This was pretty disappointing. I still might come back and give them another chance, but next time I probably will just order the tacos only.
Jane S — Google review
Best carnitas tacos in San Diego! I love when the carnitas is crispy but still tender and flavorful. Everything tastes very fresh, the guacamole, the beans, the salsas. Price is super fair. I’m now a regular for sure!
Lucas F — Google review
We had family in town and decided to try this place based on the reviews, but we left pretty disappointed. The woman at the front was fantastic—friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the service. Some in our group ordered the tacos carnitas and said they were just okay—not bad, but nothing they’d return for. I had the shrimp tacos and couldn’t get past the first bite. The shrimp tasted old, like it had been left open in the freezer too long—overcooked, lacking seasoning, and with an odd, unpleasant flavor. It looked like they tried to salvage it with some kind of sauce, but it didn’t help. Even more bizarre, the tacos had greasy rice inside them. It didn’t add anything—just made the texture odd—and was paired with plain cabbage. No avocado, no pico, nothing fresh like the meat tacos had. It felt lazy and unbalanced, like no real effort was put into the dish. The great service and a couple of tolerable meat tacos are the only reasons this isn’t a one-star review. Still, I won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend it.

As San Diego native and a long time resident of Pacific Beach, I highly recommend La Playa Taco Shop. I always get their California Burrito (add sour cream). It's the best of the best when it comes to burritos. Their ingredients are top notch. You won't regret going here!

Yes. Just yes!!! 10/10. This has come to be my favorite Mexican food in San Diego. Great staff, food comes out quick, and everything is SO bomb. I'm surprised it isn't always packed with how amazing the food is here. Whenever I crave carne asada, I think of this place. Located in Mission Beach/Pacific Beach area. There's a small lot here if you're only eating, but you'll probably have to park further if you want to nap off the food on the beach. By the way, the green salsa is incredible. I would buy a bottle to take home.

Went on the recommendation of a friend. However, he always went after surfing and we went closer to closing around 9pm. The carnitas burrito was VERY dry. The Chicken burrito was decent but not spectacular. The carne asada was also just average. The woman at the counter was not very happy. The seating area was typical for a hole in the wall place. It was clean. Maybe we hit it at a bad time.

I've waited 15 years to try this place .. because I'm always rushing. Well, today I finally went in and had a meal. There is some front street parking, side parking and rear parking. There's also a bus stop less (101) than a block away but I walked to it from a nearby hotel. The notion of authentic food is obvious by the cashier's and cooks I had the opportunity to thank for such a delicious meal. I was fortunate enough to have my lunch to myself because no one was eating inside during my brief 1 hour there.. however there were non-stop to-go orders the whole time. I ordered my usual test food of Carne Asada Nachos and a Coke. The coke tasted like a coke should. It wasn't flat. The carne asada nachos were made with the exact amount of chips and fixings and meat. There was no chip eaten without something on it which is rare. Usually most places put too much chips. There was a good serving of guacamole, sour cream, unmelted cheese, pico de gallo and meat. It could easily feed 2 but I only ate 1x in the morning so this was my lunch and dinner. I opted for both red and green salsa .. which were both delicious. The red was slightly spicier but not too much. I have 1 before and 1 mid photos so you can see the balanced portions. In my opinion the cooks were nice and know how to cook in my humble opinion. The food was delicious and I'm definitely coming back tomorrow to test their breakfast burrito. I highly recommend coming in and trying their food. There's plenty to do in the area to walk off your meal afterwards. All in all .. definitely a monthly meal for me worth the extra 5 min drive from my office.

Been eating here for 30 years, I grew up on this food and it still hits. There's a simplicity to it, it's the flavors I crave when I come home, and it's a flavor that I haven't found elsewhere. My favorite is to get both a carne asada burrito and a veggie burrito to split with someone so we can each have half of each.

Love this gem of a place! We popped in on a Friday night for drinks and were seated at the back patio bar. Bartenders were awesome and stirring up some excellent cocktails. The whole aura in here is so cool and now I want a giant disco ball covered in silk greens somewhere in my house.

The food here is absolutely ahhmazing! The decor is gorgeous, inside and on the patio. Great music playing at a reasonable level. Impeccable service. We've been twice now for date night and we love it. Highlights this time were the Oaxacan Dip, Refried Pinto Tostada (my fave of the night), and NY Steak on hot rock. We love the corn ice cream, the presentation is so fun. The drinks are on point. Do yourself a favor and get the Dos Ochos. One of the best drinks I've had! This spot is such a lovely experience. We'll keep coming back.

We did the mezcal experience and had such a great time—it was personalized to our tastes and made the whole thing feel really special. Afterward, we stuck around for cocktails and dinner, and everything was fantastic. Just a heads-up: the restaurant sits directly under the airport flight path, so it can get a bit noisy and occasionally interrupt conversation. Still totally worth it!

The food at this restaurant is primarily topas style. It’s a good place to get a few dishes and try everyone’s dish. The cocktails were really good. The decorations and vibe was great. The only thing that made me drop them from 5 starts to 4 stars is because of the airplanes. We sat outside and airplanes would fly over to land continuously and it was very loud. Other than that it was great.

We really enjoyed a nice date night out at Camino Riviera. The food was exceptional, I just wish the portions were a little bit larger. California Burrito Ratings (14th Stop): Tacos El Cabron Embarking on a mission to rank SD's iconic California burritos! The Product:
This burrito stands out for its heavy dose of greens and grilled meat—super charred, which I personally vibe with. It’s hefty; couldn’t finish it in one sitting. Price tag? Around $16, which is above SD’s average. Flavor didn’t quite match the cost. 5 out of 10. The Service:
Casual interaction. The girl at the counter seemed glued to her phone most of the time. 3 out of 10. The Vibe:
The decor has cool elements that could set a great atmosphere, but the overall vibe felt a bit neglected. 7 out of 10.

Called Azul now even though it still says tacos el cabron on the outside. Overall, for the price not bad. I got 2 tacos and with tip it came out to be less than $6 Food: decent tacos with all the toppings, the Al pastor was a bit too charred so took away from the flavor. They have a salsa bar with only 2 salsa options Service: quick and efficient

The food here is amazing and tastes very authentic! The service was awesome! The hostess/cashier offered us free drinks because our wait was so long, (only felt about 20 minutes and we did come in with a rush of people) which she did not have to do. We were happy to wait and the wait was worth it! I ordered a carne asada taco and tried to order the elote corn fries because they looked delicious, but was told that they didn't have them, so on the fly, I ordered the shrimp fries and they were the best fries I ever had. The were so good and seasoned perfectly! The carne asada was delicious I didn't want to share half with my wife! 10/10, would recommend

Probably the worst tacos we’ve ever had in San Diego :(. The tacos broke apart when we got home. Did a to go order. They don’t even have the proper to go boxes, it spilled everywhere on the drive home. Wish we were given proper boxes and not just tin foil on top of paper plates. Food was so cold when we got home and the tacos were mushy already just after a 15 min drive. Just picked at the meat nd couldn’t even eat the tortilla.

For a taco shop this place is pretty good. I had a bacon breakfast taco and a fish taco. The breakfast taco was delicious. Solid mix of flavors and cooked well. Fish taco also had a decent mix of flavors, even if the fish wasn't of the highest quality but it's a taco shop not a fine dining restaurant. It was cooked perfectly though and not breaded. The outdoor area on the street was nice if a little rundown but that's typical of the area. Hard to keep patio areas pristine. Prices are just ok, a little high, but not out of the average at all compared to other places in the area. Decent portion size on the tacos. Would definitely recommend. Staff was extremely friendly.

We dined there around 3 PM on a weekday. Two tacos, one beef fries. Everything was tasty! Especially the shrimp taco was incredibly delicious! Just the right level of spiciness. We were almost the only guests and sat outside. Service was okay, not overly enthusiastic but friendly. The staff seemed a bit rushed. The atmosphere was mediocre. The outdoor area was unexciting, plain. Metal tables, no decoration, slightly unkempt. But okay. Cozy, however, is something different.

Went here recently because I’m currently trying all the Al Pastor Burritos in the Neighborhood. I went here on a Saturday afternoon and it was empty. Everywhere else was busy. Two ladies were working and the place was not that clean. I ordered and actually waited a long time for some reason and I was the only customer. The Salsa Bar was not clean. The burrito was actually terrible and basically mostly full of dried rice.. I’ve been going here for years and can tell there has been a drop in the level of food and the service speed. The owner needs to check on this. I’ll be back in a few months.. maybe and hopefully they will step it up. (I’ve always liked their Tacos)

Came here 12 years ago, and had to see if it was still the place. They did not disappoint what so ever! Delicious then, and even more delicious now. Their carne asada tacos is on par with flavor, their birria tacos are so juicy and full of flavor, their al pastor has all of the deliciousness in every bite. Even their beans and rice were simple and tasty. Just like Abuela used to make. Can't forget that the salsas are on point and their tortillas have their own unique style, and complete the taco experience without a doubt. 😁 No lo vas a arrepentir! 🌮

Been coming here for over a decade. This place used to be amazing all around, but unfortunately over time the quality of many dishes has gone downhill. Ever since they stopped cooking their carne asada outside on the grill, it’s been chewy and lacking that fresh grilled flavor. The lengua is also not what it used to be. We still come through for the carnitas tacos and mulitas which thankfully are still delicious and 100% worth the trip. Their tortillas are really good as well.

Blown away by this unassuming spot. Everything was fresh and delicious. Chips were light and crunchy, salsa was smoky and drinkable. All tacos were great, especially the carne asada and al pastor sopes. Staff was also fantastic, would highly recommend!!

Cotixan Mexican Food is a local branch of a Mexican chain that offers an array of authentic dishes such as carne asada burritos, tacos, and menudo on weekends. Visitors rave about the mouthwatering aroma of sizzling carne asada and freshly made tortillas upon entering the establishment. The generous portions and delicious flavors of their dishes have left customers impressed, with some even comparing the fish tacos to those found in Ensenada.
Best damn menudo. I need to try their other food but I always want menudo. Service can be rough and lacking, and it’s always hot inside, but I come here for the food, not the white glove service. Top notch menudo.
Nick — Google review
Wonderful and nice people, great atmosphere and plentiful parking. However, the food is not that good and the price is high, which are the most important parts about eating out. Therefore, I don't recommend coming to this restaurant at all. The meat is overcooked and they use way too much sour cream.
Gideon T — Google review
Careful when eating here with pricing and tips. Twice now this happened. I was given a total and later on my credit card, I was charged $5 more than the total they told me. I think they add their own tips. Check receipt because I didn't and just trusted. I went in to talk to manager and all she did was take my info and never called or did anything about it. Sneaky. Just watch it with them. Good food so it's a shame
Kimberly A — Google review
They are over priced for one and everyone there has the worst customer service ever . No smiles, no courtesy, very unprofessional attitudes. Most of the time the food is decent but this last time they gave me some disgusting rolled tacos and it almost seemed vengeful and on purpose because I mentioned they got my order wrong. I couldn’t even eat them and I didn’t even want to take them back because I knew I would deal with some BS from the foochy face cash register girl .
Alexis G — Google review
A classic Mexican spot in Clairemont with a wide selection of items. The supreme (veggie), bean & cheese, chile relleno, and California burritos are pretty good. The salsas are quite good as well. The only thing is sometimes they almost make their food too fast, and the cheese doesn’t have time to melt. You can end up with a burrito that has hot meat with cold lettuce, cheese, tomato, etc.
Christopher G — Google review
Terrible food! We came here because of the high star rating. While the employees seemed friendly, the food we received was bland and downright gross! My rolled tacos had absolutely no taste, the guacamole was like flavorless mashed potatoes, and the "salsa" was some watered down version of something I can't describe. My fiance's shrimp burrito tasted like frozen shrimp....who puts peas in a shrimp burrito!? Gigatic random chunks of not very ripe tomato....and to top it off - they gave us warm drinks! And acted as though providing us with extra ice was not a part of their job description and a nuisance! And it wasn't even enough ice to make our drinks cold! Shaking our heads at the misleading and far from accurate reviews! Neither of us even ate half our food and we spent 25$! During a pandemic 25$ could be your last meal for the week! They need to focus more on food quality and customer service instead of cool graphics for advertising!
Brittney B — Google review
Excellent excellent Mexican food! First time here and I am coming back ASAP. They load your plate and I love that. Everything went up and when anyplace gives you an abundance of food!!!!! I love it.
Carlos — Google review
Great flavor and great value. These burritos were huge and stuff full of meat! You know those other places that the burritos look but but it's filled with nothing but rice and beans with tiny morsels of meat? Not this place! I'd definitely be coming back when I'm in town.

Vallarta Express Mexican Eatery is a delightful casual spot that captures the essence of traditional Mexican cuisine. Perfectly situated for those heading to the beach, this eatery offers a variety of mouthwatering options like nachos, tacos, and flavorful salsas. Start your day with their surf and turf burrito, brimming with shrimp, steak, rice, sour cream, and guacamole—a true feast!
I have been to Vallartas many time for a number of their items and they are all great. I love their hot sauce and their California burritos. If you’re in the area and are looking for quality Mexican food this place is worth checking out.
Jerome C — Google review
Food was good and meat was not salty so that was appreciated. However the carne asada was cut into nice chunks they definitely mixed in old meat or over coocked dried meat that was noticeable and I had to separate and throw away. Portions were not what I expected. California burrito tasted good but they were very skimpy on everything in the burrito. I also got the fish taco which was ok. Over packed on the cabbage and not enough sauce. Hardly any inside seating so not a good idea for a family to expect to sit and eat
Brian — Google review
I ordered a shrimp burrito which was very large and it contained a lot of medium sized shrimp. It was very good. I also ordered a crispy shelled beef taco. The beef seemed to have been cooked in a broth as it was moist and tender. The taco was topped with a large amount of lettuce and cheese. It was great! I will be going back.
Jeff S — Google review
I really only needed some sides to go with my quesadilla. A side of refried beans, chips and guacamole. I was super stoked because I bought all that for under $10. They didn’t give me a huge bag of chips, which was awesome, and they were hot and crispy! Guacamole was perfect and the refried beans were great. Then I got to try their salsa which she gave me an extra side of..yummmmm. Super happy, thank you. I’ll be back.
Yvonne M — Google review
The food is super cold. Doesn’t even taste like it was ever hot. Tastes like it was always cold.
Tina C — Google review
This was my favorite taco shop, service and quality has gone downhill. On my last visit I got hot sauce packets with rancid sauce.
Ricardo L — Google review
One of my favorite taco places in SD. They’re very generous with the hot sauces. I love the green. Their fries are truly loaded, they’re so heavy in the bag! You wouldn’t think to order a salad through a Mexican drive through, but I really love their Mexican Caesar. The creamy Pepita dressing is amazing. I some times order it without the salad to put on my tacos. All portions are very generous and they’re speedy.
April W — Google review
Generous portions. Fast. Hits the late night munchies spot. Get their California Burrito 🌯 - it’s my gold standard. Prices have gone up over the years but I still come back. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE 👌🏻

Tacos El Gordo de Tijuana BC is a no-frills Mexican eatery known for its authentic Tijuana-style tacos. The menu offers a variety of protein choices, including al pastor, carne asada, and tripe, each with unique toppings and sauces. The street-side countertop and picnic seating provide an inviting atmosphere to enjoy these flavorful tacos. While some patrons found the carne asada to be underwhelming, others praised the al pastor with avocado cream and the delicious salsa.
Tacos El Gordo is a must-visit in TJ! My Boo's mother, who used to come here back in her 20s and 30s, recommended it, and wow, she was right! The meat is so tender, and the food is incredible. The staff is super friendly, and the homemade tortillas are on point--just how they should be. I tried the tacos de cabeza, and they were amazing. The taco de al pastor was a close second, and the taco de asada? Pure perfection--none of that weird thick meat you find on Revolución. The spot is super casual with busy, stop-and-go vibes, and while the location could use a little aesthetic update, it's all part of the Tijuana charm. If you're in town, Tacos El Gordo is the move. Don't miss it!
Peter N — Google review
Gr at tacos, anything you order is good here. I love that every type of taco has its own sauce and condiments, adobada has a unique sauce, asada has a guacamole sauce, etc etc, I don't recall other taco joints (apart from fancy ones) that do it like they do.
Juan M — Google review
Very flavorful for a great price. Get the adobada and asada. The best tacos in tijuana
Jason R — Google review
A great taco shop with a street-side countertop and additional picnic seating with cover. The tacos were really good, especially the al pastor with the avocado cream. The carne asada left something to be desired—it was a bit rare for my taste. The salsa was super good, though. Quick and simple spot with authentic Tijuana street tacos. It’s also very cheap.
Christopher G — Google review
By far the most memorable tacos of our whole trip, we ordered 4 pastor tacos, which were AMAZING. We got bar seats right in front of the spit meat. Greeted and served by the taco barista who managed the spit roast. He was super friendly and prompt, we threw in a tostado which was dry and stale so I’d avoid it at all cost. The smell alone from the meat was tantalizing. The juices and accompaniments paired perfectly together, had a little heat to it but delicious overall. I will mention, service from the cashier who seemed to be the owner was absurd. He was just a jerk, he saw us coming to close the bill and literally walked off without a word. Then seeing as we’re VERY foreign, we tried our best to communicate but he had a very off putting attitude. Thankfully a local was there to guide our way through. Tacos were bomb, service from him left a terrible impression. There's a ton of other locations which we’d happily visit instead.
Anna H — Google review
Food was ok for the first and last time, the toilets were so dirty and had no paper and hand soap. Definitely won't come back. The lady who assisted us was herself embarrassed because she had to give me laundry detergent they luckily had on their grill.
Caty N — Google review
The tacos were ok... we were expecting a bit more quality; and although they are not bad we felt that the quality could have been better; for example the meat was a bit rough and overall the flavor was just ok.. again not bad tacos but in our opinion not the best they can surely put a bit more effort and bring the quality up the tacos would be great.
Ricardo M — Google review
I came here for lunch today. I had the asada, cabeza and lengua tacos. The best by far were the asada tacos. The cabeza and lengua were not as tasty. The asada torts was amazing!!!! Tacos were 27pesos, torta was 65, and sodas were 27 a piece. FYI They only take cash. Will defend make a pit stop for asada tacos and torta next time!!!!
