Nestled just outside Taichung, Rainbow Village is a delightful explosion of color and creativity that captivates visitors of all ages. Once a humble veterans' village constructed to house Chinese soldiers, this charming locale has transformed into an artistic haven thanks to the remarkable efforts of Mr. Huang, one of its last residents. His vibrant murals adorn the walls and streets, showcasing whimsical depictions of animals, dolls, airplanes, and even beloved manga characters.
A beautiful little village full of Taiwan’s history. You can really feel the vibe once you’re there. Whether you stay for 5 minutes or 30, it all depends on your mood and interest. Don’t forget to stop by the lady selling souvenirs at the entrance—her prices are very local and fair! It’s free to enter though. Easy to get here by bus from the city.
JRM D — Google review
Rainbow Village is a tiny spot with a big reputation. I went in with moderate expectations and I think that helped. The entire place is really just a small cluster of brightly painted houses, transformed by the cheerful hand of a former soldier known as Grandpa Rainbow. The colors are vibrant, and the folk-style drawings covering every inch of wall and ground make it feel playful and unique. That said, it’s a very quick stop you can walk through it in about 10 minutes. It’s photogenic, no doubt, and has a sort of whimsical charm, especially if you catch it when it’s not crowded. If you’re nearby or passing through, it’s a fun little detour. But if you’re coming from far just for this, it might feel underwhelming unless paired with other activities. It’s more about the spirit and story than the scale. Good for a few colorful photos and a gentle reminder of how a simple artistic gesture can put a place on the map.
Antonella S — Google review
Love the colourful village, really brighten up the visit. Can be a bit hot sometimes and no much space to rest. Visitors all busy taking Instagramable photos. There's also a talented busker performing, and some activities to keep young kids occupied. There are a lot of interesting artwork and we spent almost 2 hours there, although the place is actually quite small and the visit can be completed in less than 30mins for some.
CF C — Google review
Is such a cheerful little spot, full of colors, art, and stories behind every wall. It’s a bit warm walking around, but the bright murals and cute photo corners totally make up for it. Just take it slow, grab a cold drink nearby, and enjoy the happy vibes! 🌈
Cheiro T — Google review
It's a small area where all the houses and walls were painted with colourful drawings. It's free for admission. There're quite some people as it's a Saturday morning. But it's still not too crowded. You can find space to take pictures easily.
Clare L — Google review
Rainbow village is a must-see for its incredible backstory and unique visual appeal, but manage your expectations regarding its size. It's a short, colorful stop that is best enjoyed when combined with other taichung attractions like Moment Cafe and Wanggaoliao Viewpoint. #gorgeousventure

The beautiful colors of rainbow village adapts to the mood of people visiting here. I admit I got tired traveling, but seeing these magnificent murals gave me a rewarding feeling that I can still enjoy my vacation no matter how tired I am
Keisuraaa 1 — Google review
Really enjoyed coming to this place, although it is quite a long bus ride away from north district and it is maybe smaller than one would think. I think there's a lot of art to admire, you can also walk along one of the walls to try and find your Chinese zodiac sign which is pretty cool. Additionally, there's a wall where you can leave a special message and hang it there. I enjoyed that concept of leaving something for others to see. If you go, plan in advance while considering bus routes, weather, and while a 711 is somewhat near (north) make sure to bring WATER!

Nestled in the heart of Taichung, Taichung Park stands as the city's oldest urban oasis, inviting visitors to unwind amidst its lush greenery. This expansive park features a picturesque manmade lake that mirrors the beauty of Sun Moon Lake, offering stunning views—especially enchanting at night when illuminated. As you stroll along its pathways, you'll encounter tennis courts and playgrounds perfect for families seeking leisure activities.
One of the most beautiful parks in Taichung, it is quite spacious with a lake in the center and various facilities such as restrooms and a playground. There is also a bridge 👍🏻 There are quite a lot of animals here, such as birds, squirrels, and fish 🐹🐦🪿🐶🐱🐟 It is very child-friendly and accessible for people in wheelchairs. One of the recreational spots I highly recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Aldi S — Google review
A great park in the heart of the city, within walking distance from Taichung Main Train Station. There are various walkways, making it enjoyable to roam freely among the trees, near the lake, among rest areas and numerous artworks. It feels full of hidden spots and shady areas to relax or hide. You can also easily spot squirrels, which kids will love. The park has clean toilets, and it's also a pleasant place for pet owners to take a walk.
Martin M — Google review
It is a beautiful place to relax, in the early morning it is good, cool weather , The locals are performing their exercise, plenty of life in the park. Beautiful trees and pieces of nature in the busy city of taichung, The park dates back from 1903 and got Japanese influence. Awesome place and kept clean and serene.

Taichung Park is a beautiful urban oasis that blends natural charm with cultural significance. Its serene lake, arched bridges, and lush greenery make it an ideal spot for relaxation or a leisurely stroll. The historic pavilion adds a touch of elegance and a glimpse into Taichung’s heritage. Well-maintained paths and peaceful surroundings make it family-friendly and perfect for photography. A visit here provides a refreshing escape from the bustling city.

Safe green haven in the frenzy city. Lovely place to chill and relax, possibly tasting some snacks, delicious street food / fried chicken whatever, Taichung has wide choice. Just sit in the shade, feed the birds, look the squirrels, enjoy the lake, read a book, to recover your mood

Free and beautiful park here. Many people picnic and rest here. While there is some live in the evening, nearby the night market. So, worth to walk around to explore here.

After we checked into a nearby hotel and before our dinner, we took a stroll here in the park. It was a weekend and there was an activity going on in the park for kids, it was unusual busy. The park was beautiful.

This picturesque area is renowned for its expansive boardwalk, which invites leisurely strolls while offering spectacular views of migrating birds and the iconic wind turbines that dot the landscape.
Manage to catch the beautiful sunset! Recommended to reach around 5pm, so you can still enjoy the surroundings before the sky goes dark
Zai T — Google review
I was there on a foggy grey day and did not see the sunset. Despite that we still enjoyed ourselves. Get down into the sandbar is highly recommended! First brave the knee deep water that was still icy in springtime. Thanks to our KK day driver and guide for a great day outing!

Sun was hidden behind the clouds 🥲, missed the beautiful sunset view. Great place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. A lot of mini crab and natures.
Alchymist L — Google review
Beautiful place to see the sunset, often crowded with many coming to view the sunset. I recommend wearing shorts and wearing sandals so you can enjoy the cool water and take good photos.

Gaomei Wetland in Taiwan is a hidden gem! The scenic views of the wetlands and the sea are breathtaking. The boardwalks and trails offer a peaceful stroll with nature. The stunning row of wind turbines silhouetted against the horizon are especially gorgeous during sunset when the golden hour lights up the sky. Timing your visit for sunset is a must - the views are simply stunning! 🌅 Afterward, stroll through the nearby shops and indulge in some sweet treats. A must-visit for nature lovers and those looking for a serene escape from the city. 🌿🐦🌊"
Bern D — Google review
As a sunset enthusiast, the scenery was spectacular. I wish I could just stand there and watch the sun set forever while the sea breeze blows my worries away. The moment was spontaneous, yet it felt like a triumph after a long adventure. Suddenly, I wasn’t feeling tired anymore. I can see why this is such a famous place, really. Here are some snapshots. I swear, it’s way better in person.

Such a nice place with a perfect sunset viewing its worth it riding my bicycle from Doulio Yunlin County to here.

It's okay. You can see abundance of small crabs. At the end of the path your can thread the water and walk much further on the beach, so bring appropriate footwear

Nestled in the vibrant city of Taichung, Taiwan, the National Museum of Natural Science stands as a premier destination for those curious about the wonders of our planet. This expansive museum features five permanent exhibition halls that cater to visitors of all ages, showcasing everything from fascinating dinosaur fossils to intricate butterfly ecosystems and even the marvels of human anatomy. One highlight is the enchanting 'Bird Garden,' where nearly a hundred bird species can be observed in their simulated habitats—perfect for nature enthusiasts and families alike.
I absolutely loved the Chinese Medicine Room! It was fascinating to explore and learn about the acupuncture points and see the natural herbs used in traditional medicine. The dinosaur exhibit was also a highlight—so lifelike! The interactive displays made it easy to learn, though some didn't have English translations, so I recommend having Google Translate handy. We had a great time, and the kids, who were on their mini tour the same day, loved it just as much! The museum is also very accessible by train or bus. I'd definitely visit again!
Maria R — Google review
This museum was much bigger than I expected and you could easily spend all day here. Probably at least half of the exhibits have English translations, and for the others, google translate camera function worked a treat. We also went to the science theatre to watch a film and they gave us headphones so we could get English audio. Absolutely must visit with kids.
Jade J — Google review
The National Museum of Natural Science is such a fantastic spot! It’s huge, beautifully maintained, and incredibly affordable, just NT$120 for adults and NT$60 for kids under 12. You really get so much value for the price. The exhibits cover so much ground, from dinosaurs and the history of life, to human cultures, science and technology, and even a gorgeous botanical garden with a rainforest greenhouse. Everything feels fresh, well cared for, and thoughtfully presented. The layout is easy to navigate, with clear signs and plenty of space to explore. Even when there are large school groups on field trips, it’s big enough that you can simply wander to another area and enjoy things at your own pace without feeling crowded. The restrooms were spotless, which is always a plus, and the gift shop was excellent, full of unique science-themed items and fun souvenirs for all ages. Overall, it’s the kind of museum you can easily spend hours in without running out of things to see. Clean, spacious, affordable, and full of fascinating displays, definitely worth visiting.
Nai L — Google review
Just spent an entire day exploring the National Museum of Natural Science (國立自然科學博物館) in Taichung, and it was a spectacular journey through time and space! 🤩 This isn't just one museum; it's a massive complex packed with discovery. Every hall offers a world of exploration. We started with the incredible Life Science Hall, where we saw everything from realistic wildlife dioramas like the zebra on the savanna 🦓 to massive whale skulls and fossils that make you feel tiny. It’s an immersive look at evolution and biodiversity. Next up was the Earth Science Hall, where you can gaze up at a glowing, detailed model of the Sun 🔥 and explore models of ancient creatures like the Keichousaurus fossil! It’s mind-blowing to consider how vast and ancient our planet's history is. 🌏🦴 And don't miss the fascinating Human Culture Hall! I loved seeing the detailed models of ancient architecture, like the multi-story wooden pagodas—a true testament to human ingenuity through the ages. The whole place is beautifully designed and highly interactive. Whether you're a science enthusiast, a history buff, or you're just looking for a fantastic family day out, this museum is a must-visit. You’ll need a few hours, minimum, to cover just the highlights! A truly enriching and educational experience. 💯📚
Lifeooferic — Google review
Excellent ‘Earth’s Treasures’ exhibition on minerals! A must visit for any crystal & mineral lovers 💕 3 floors of endless specimen including giant stalagmite & rare meteorites! There are other halls filled with science & historical artifacts as well. Consider to spend half a day to appreciate the spectacular displays put up by the curators, it will sure to take your breath away! 👏👏
Lenny P — Google review
Fascinating dinosaur exhibition. Sounds and movements included. Plus many more sections about the origin and development of the human species. When we arrived just before the ticket gate an older lady approached us telling us that because it was Friday and we appeared to be seniors that it was FREE. She took us to the ticket gate and we were in. Thank you lady you made Taichung proud. Thank you Taichung a city of so many kind and helpful people.
Jean L — Google review
We really enjoyed the various displays and the price to enter is very reasonable. We especially liked the limited time exhibit on drug use, where famous paintings were altered to include drug health effects and paraphernalia. Very well done exhibits.
Mystery P — Google review
I maybe got there at the wrong time as it was packed. You could spend a lot longer there if you have kids, we spent 90 mins and only saw a low percentage of what was on offer. Very educational and you are never to old to learn something new or add to your knowledge.

Bubble tea store
Chinese tea house
Chun Shui Tang Original Store in Taichung City, Taiwan is considered the birthplace of bubble tea, a beloved drink that has gained popularity worldwide. The chain of dim sum restaurants started in the 1980s and is credited with inventing this iconic beverage. While there are multiple branches across the country where you can enjoy their original pearl milk tea, visiting the original store on Siwei Street is a unique experience for any bubble tea enthusiast.
A Pilgrimage to the Birthplace of Bubble Tea 🥤💎 Stepping into the original Chun Shui Tang (春水堂 創始店) in Taichung is more than just a meal—it's a journey to the very beginning of the bubble tea phenomenon. This isn't just a tea shop; it's a historic landmark where the iconic beverage we all love was first invented. The atmosphere is a beautiful blend of traditional teahouse charm and a bustling, modern eatery. The classic design, with wooden furniture and a warm, inviting feel, makes you feel right at home. It’s the perfect place to sit back and savor a piece of beverage history. And of course, the star of the show is the Pearl Milk Tea. The flavor is a perfect balance of rich, fragrant tea and creamy milk, with a generous helping of their signature chewy pearls. It's truly a different experience from any other bubble tea you've had. Beyond the tea, their menu offers a variety of delicious light meals and snacks, so you can enjoy a full dining experience. Visiting Chun Shui Tang's original store is an absolute must for any tea lover or bubble tea enthusiast. It's a taste of history and a truly authentic experience. ✨
Lifeooferic — Google review
This place never fails. We usually go to the one at Tianmu but just realized there is the original shop near our hotel. What a treat! We came here for breakfast to try their special breakfast set. I love their hot tea. Simply smooth and warms you up instantly. How I wish I can have the same back home. We ordered our usual, the collage noodles, Dan Dan noodles, shrimp siumai, stir fry sweet potato leaves and tofu skin with enoki. Overall was good. But somehow I prefer ten ren’s dishes. Maybe my taste bud affected due to my flu. It was still a good experience. Am glad we managed to make it here for a nice treat.
Sue G — Google review
Nice decor and plenty of seating when we visited. Would be great if the menu had pictures for non-native speakers. Food came out fast and looked good. Side dishes were tasty, noodles were just okay, but the bubble tea and drinks were really good.
Mochaguy 2 — Google review
I was very excited to try Bubble Tea at the origin place of its creation and when I arrived to Taichung, it was one of the only places open until later in the evening to visit. I ordered the small classic Bubble Tea, Chili Sesame DanDan Noodles, and the fried Radish Cakes (I was so hungry, I ate them before I could take a picture). The standout dishes were the sesame DanDan noodles and radish cakes. I actually felt quite disappointed in the bubble tea - it is expensive and contains more ice than tea which does not match the price point. I also felt that it had less flavor than the tea I have bought at 50 lab or in the night markets which was only 55NT compared to 120NT. I would recommend clarifying how much ice or sugar you want in advance to ensure that the quality is to your liking. The atmosphere of the restaurant was really peaceful and lively. There were posters depicting the history of the creative tea-making process and guided courses on how to make Bubble Tea at home. I recommend going for the aesthetic and historical experience - do not get your hopes too high for the best boba of your life. Night stalls are the best for this!
Ara I — Google review
Their milk tea is served in pint glasses, as if they are selling beer. As a result, my insulin level had a wild day. They also offer small hot dishes/ snacks that honestly taste better than their milk tea. Minus point for the long queuing time even on a weekday.
Cuong ( — Google review
Much better than we expected! Service fast and clear. English menu available. Food is gooood! We tried a few dishes and drinks. The food worth more than the drinks, IMO. Walkable from train station, 15mnts.
Malvin H — Google review
We had original milk tea with pearls and brown sugar milk tea, the pearls are soft and chewy. The butter toast and the other snacks taste great. We like the ambience at the basement.
Sharon O — Google review
Came here around 6pm and had a queue of around 15 minutes wait time. The restaurant itself is quite tidy and if you happen to sit next to the right side of the restaurant. There is some bubble tea trivia which is quite fun to read. As for food, we ordered various dish, all came out quite good. I really like the sesame dandan noodles. Veges and the fried chicken also pretty good. The main star of course is the bubble tea and it has really good flavour and the boba is small size which apparently they kept to the original recipe. It doesnt get stuck in the straw at all. Overall experience very good, we will definitely be back if not this branch, then some other branch.

Nestled amidst the modern skyline of Taichung, the National Taichung Theater is a stunning architectural marvel that captivates visitors with its unique design and vibrant atmosphere. This contemporary venue, crafted by renowned architect Toyo Ito in collaboration with artist Cecil Balmond, features flowing concrete walls that create an enchanting interior reminiscent of a giant egg. Inside, you'll discover diverse performance spaces hosting an array of shows, alongside art exhibitions and cozy bookstores.
I had a great experience at the National Taichung Theater. The architecture is stunning and very modern—just walking around inside felt like being in a work of art. Even without watching a show, it was worth the visit for the design alone. Definitely a must-see in Taichung!

Beautiful architecture to explore even if you’re not coming to watch a concert. The shops on the ground floor sell is something to check out if you want to buy a souvenir. Also, there’s a cafe and observation deck on the top floor which has great views of the city.

Great design and good looking architecture. One of the landmarks and tourist attractions in Taichung. We spent some time inside and at the top, admiring the beauty and elegance of the building.

I went here for the cafe and it had more to offer than I expected. The coffee was so good. The theater has a art and craft space (I think, IDK how they call it) but they have many high quality wooden miniatures, felt animals, handmade souviners for quite affordable prices. But if you don't drink coffe or buy anything, you can still vosit for free

Night market
Feng Chia Night Market, also known as Wenhua Night Market, is Taichung's largest and most popular night market. Established in 1963, it offers a bustling atmosphere with a variety of vendors selling food, clothing, accessories, and other goods. The market has expanded to include shops along Wen-hua street, Fengjia street, Fushin road, Xian street and more.
The food was delicious & cheap. Kiddos were enjoying the food too much, they didn't complain at all about eating while standing up the whole time. There were too many options to choose from. Although there was a language barrier, we managed just fine to order and purchase all the food.
Karina A — Google review
Tried quite a few things there, quite a variety. Not much game stalls. Most memorable from this night market is the chicken thigh roll that no one was queuing! Sausage frm the famous 大肠包小肠stall was also yummy! Pepper bun was nt bad only despite long queue.. their grape vinegar was nice and refreshing though. Sweet potato balls was ok only too, despite another long queue stall. Master of tea at the start of night market is very good.

First visit, not overly crowded and can shop to your heart content. Things that I feel worth trying out were the fried milk stall (crispy on the outside but soft like tauhu milk filling inside). Huang ji sesame oil chicken soup, the soup was superb but too bad no 🍚 option. Another shop which tickle my tastebud was china street food dried vegetable pancake. Thin slice of pancake stuffed with "mui choy" crispy and savoury.

This is such a well-rounded night market ,it has everything from food stalls, hole in the wall restaurants to clothing/ shoe shops, plus a few carnival and claw machine arcades. I’d recommend going earlier; we arrived around 6 p.m. and didn’t have enough time to see it all. Although it’s busy, the pathway is wider than most, making it easier to move around somewhat lol. There’s even a garbage bag near the front of the market (a rare find, haha). The washroom is located in a nearby plaza — just follow the signs downstairs — but do bring your own tissue paper. I also suggest exploring the area around the night market, as there are plenty of shops and restaurants. We took the HSR to Taichung Station and then an Uber, which took about 25 minutes. Don’t forget to bring cash!

There are tons of famous local snacks around, and one of my favorites is the takoyaki! The grilled chicken chop takes about 18 minutes to cook but honestly tastes pretty average. The Taiwanese sausage wrap (big sausage wrapped around a small one) was super filling, not particularly special in flavor, but I just had to try it since it’s such a classic. The Matsusaka pork was tender and delicious, and the sweet potato balls were so addictive I couldn’t stop popping them one after another! There were still so many yummy things I wanted to try, but my stomach just gave up too soon.

Fengchia Night Market in Taichung was super fun! There were so many different foods and snacks to try — everything looked and smelled amazing. It was a bit far from our hotel near Taichung Train Station, and we got a little lost trying to figure out the bus, so we just took an Uber in the end. But honestly, it was totally worth it. Great vibes, great food, and a really fun night overall! ✨

Favourite night market in Taiwan. A wide variety of food and cheap and a lot of things to see also. No need to worry about dirty street as there are rubbish bags along the street which is great improvement against my past experience traveling to Taiwan (back then I need to carry my oily dirty plastic bag with my food waste around since hard to find rubbish bin). Cartain area smells a bit not generally is good.

It is surrounded by various eateries and an art museum, creating a vibrant atmosphere. On weekends, you’ll often find street performers, pop-up markets, and families enjoying the outdoors. There are also plenty of cafés and restaurants nearby, making it easy to grab a coffee and soak in the atmosphere.

A Taichung local introduced me to this place. It's such a nice place to hangout and take a leisure walk with your friends and family. There are so many good eateries near this area, so you can also grab a meal together and relax. The michelin star ice cream place "MINIMAL" is near this place. This area is apparently called "Qinmei 勤美" and locals love this place. This walkway stretches all the way from the National Museum of Natural Science to the Taichung Civic Square. During weekends, there are lots of pop-up stores and local vendors selling various things from snacks to cute handmade things. Also, busking and other public outdoor activities are enjoyed here. I took a late-night walk here along with my friend, after a rainy day and the mood was so great :)

Modern art museum
Nestled in the heart of Taichung, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts is a vibrant hub for art enthusiasts and families alike. This expansive museum showcases an impressive collection of Taiwanese artworks, emphasizing modern visual arts that reflect the island's unique culture. After undergoing extensive renovations following a devastating earthquake in 1999, it now boasts a stunning interior and exterior design that captivates visitors. The museum features 24 exhibition rooms filled with diverse paintings and sculptures, ensuring there's always something new to discover.
A good, informative, and inspiring collection of artwork. Take your time to explore the different sections of the museum and appreciate the unique pieces on display. Each artwork tells a story—pause, observe, and let it speak to you.

This museum has a huge outdoor space with big installations. So go check out the garden area. The expanse of the building gives a grandeur but modern. The 3rd level was having set up so we didn’t manage to catch the exhibition on one level. No entrance fee so can come in here to enjoy the exhibits.

Really great experience here. Got here about 6pm and went to the cafe. Had the iced peach flavoured fruit tea. Service was great. The tea tasted refreshing and had light peach notes. Once finished, went to the first floor entrance for the art exhibition. It is free entry and it was so nice to walk around and admire the beautiful art on display. I would definitely recommend a visit to this magnificent art museum.

Great art museum. Definitely worth going in Taichung, especially it’s free. Many works are part of submissions to competitions and are done in various mediums. The art is immensely well done with skill and beauty.
Samuel T — Google review
The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung was a rewarding stop during my trip. The building is large and modern, with generous open spaces and natural light that make it easy to navigate and pleasant to explore. One of the highlights was the Liao Shiou Ping retrospective exhibition, which offered an insightful journey through the works of one of Taiwan’s most influential modern artists. The curation was clean and balanced, with vibrant prints and mixed media pieces that showed the range and depth of his work. It was genuinely interesting and gave context to how Taiwanese contemporary art evolved through global influences. Outside, the sculpture park wraps around the museum in a wide green space, dotted with installations and contemporary pieces. Though not particularly dense, it adds a leisurely dimension to the visit and makes the whole experience feel more relaxed and open. The museum is free to enter and not overly crowded, which made it easy to take my time. It may not have the blockbuster feel of major international galleries, but it holds its own with thoughtful exhibitions and a calm, well-designed setting. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Taichung and enjoy contemporary art.

If you're a fan of street art and Japanese anime, Painted Animation Lane is a must-visit spot. This small alleyway is adorned with vibrant murals of beloved cartoon and anime characters, making it a perfect backdrop for colorful Instagram photos. The lane is free to visit and open 24 hours a day, offering visitors the chance to capture some unique shots during daylight hours.
So nostalgic for many of us. There are beautifully painted walls of anime’s from a lot of our childhoods. It’s quite a small area so it should only take you a couple minutes to walk through the entire area but still worth seeing if you are in the neighborhood exploring Taichung.

I visited Painted Animation Lane yesterday and really enjoyed the experience. The murals are colorful, detailed, and clearly created with care – especially great for anime fans! While the area is relatively small, consisting of just a few alleys, it’s a charming and fun place to explore. If you’re already in the neighborhood, it’s definitely worth stopping by. It makes for a great photo spot and a short, creative detour from the usual sightseeing.

About an alley worth of tired looking murals. Visited if nearby, otherwise, i'd skip it. No restrooms, it's just a quiet alley.

A short street flanked by wall murals of anime and cartoon characters. Always amazed by the skill behind these, especially lifelike characters with the fine details from facial features to expressions. Plus these are well known characters.

Nostalgic & Hopeful, Personally enjoyed it much more than the Museum of Comics (free but so far apart). The Rider was introduced to it by a friend as I mentioned I wanna try look at the Museum of Comics. What I found was not just a wall there few alleys of anime of quite a few genres, too. From Doraemon to DragonBall Z to Naruto/ Boruto. I know they are updated as they include the newest characters from anime too. I was jittery as a child as it shows they're enthusiasm hasn't dimmed with time. I asked the shop next door more about it. She said it was just bunch of brothers from motorcycle repair shop next door. They're now into their 40's! Talk about commitment. The Rider loved it: Can't wait to see if grows again and what might have. Please more info on these murals please let me know!

This historic site, established in 1893 by Lin Wenqin, showcases stunning Fuzhou-style architecture and beautifully landscaped gardens that have stood the test of time.
The place is like the ancient chinese drama from 1800s to 1900s. Very nice to take picture with. If weather is hot, you have there snacks there, is very refreshing and yumz. If you go Taichung, this is a must to go.

Great mansion and beautifully maintained grounds. This family had so much wealth 250years ago. Only downside is you need to get three separate tickets to visit the three parts of the mansion grounds. That's kinda silly in my opinion.
Kang Y — Google review
As someone who loves history, this place is a must go. The ticket price is a little on the expensive side compared to other local museum, but they have a spacious area to sightsee. The employees are all friendly and welcoming, and were very insightful with any question you may have. They have the only surviving theatre area made from wood as well, which in my opinion, is quite interesting. The architecture and symbolism are great and really unique. It can be a little bit warm during the summer but you will spend most of the sightseeing inside or at least under a roof, so no worries. Parking within the area can be a little expensive since it’s a tourist area too, so keep in mind.

One star taken off, not handicap friendly. Do not recommend if you have wheelchairs. This is a great place to go to get a little of Taiwanese wealthy family history few hundred years ago. How it is mix of mainland China traditional in Taiwan society. Many handcrafted wood carving. It is not big but I think the tour guys is great, story telling with interaction with the tourist answer any question anyone might have. The ear phone guide is a great idea too, allow you to take pictures without missing any of the tour details.

Traditional market
Taichung Second Market is an indoor market that has been around since the Japanese Colonial Era, serving as a trading hub for various commodities. Today, it's a popular spot for both locals and tourists to enjoy delicious local food during the day. The market offers a variety of traditional dishes such as Braised Minced Pork Rice, soup noodles, dry noodles, Japanese cuisine, sweet tofu, and tapioca desserts.
Old and dated market with couple souvenir, fruit, clothing, etc… along outside of the market. Most food stalls are in the middle and one side of the market. Good place to eat locals food for great price.

Personally I like this market. It’s always been a thing for me to visit the local market to have a good feel of their lifestyle. I find the market a unique experience for me. You can find what you would normally find it a market. There’s also plenty of food options available. I’ve tried braised pork rice and sashimi. I think it really got a good CP value. Should I return to Taichung again, I would probably visit this again as well as giving myself more time to explore surrounding neighbourhood.

This market is as traditional and authentic as it gets. 😍 This is definitely a one-stop shop for tourists as well as locals to come and get everything they need, from produce and vegetables all the way to good food. The establishments that receive good reviews for their amazing dishes will not disappoint. I think coming here is definitely a pit stop for those who are in Taichung for a short period to indulge in a foodie haven. Explore every nook and cranny you can, and the ones that garner a long queue will not disappoint.

For a rainy a Sunday, it was just ok. Many vendors were closed. The busiest stalls were the food vendors. There is definitely a lot of variety. One area had the heavy smell of urine right by a number of the eateries. It didn’t seem very touristy as the prices were reasonable. Compared to the Sixth Market, this is not a fancy place. Set your expectations as low as possible.

Not your typical night market. More like a traditional market. Can be wet and slippery. It’s a round in case you get lost. There is a beverage stall there that sells red tea and all. The tea may be too sweet for us, non-locals. 😆 can try their kind of breakfast, yam cake with egg. I feel can give it a miss and try other breakfast spots.

Nestled in a 24-square-kilometer bamboo forest, Basianshan National Forest Recreation Area is hailed as one of Taiwan's most stunning destinations. Visitors can explore the emerald woodlands through various verdant trails such as the Bamboo Forest Trail and the Cherry Blossom Path, which boasts blooming flowers during spring. The site also features breathtaking mountain views, river gorges, and diverse forest trails.
The mountain forest is full of life and fresh air. The trail to the mountain top is steep and interesting to walk. But take at least 8 hours round trip. Scenic spot
Dakeng Scenic Area, located in Beitun District, Taichung City, is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The area features 12 hiking trails that wind through steep hills and dense forests, offering opportunities for hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing. The trails vary in difficulty, with options suitable for beginners as well as more challenging routes for experienced hikers. In addition to outdoor activities, visitors can also enjoy a morning market on holidays near the entrance of the scenic area.
There is so much fresh produce and food stalls here; it is ever so lively! But beware, some of the items are more expensive than supermarkets and I do not believe the price by weight is always what they say. There are many trails here and some are so crowded that you feel like you are in a scenic queue to a popular attraction. One thing I like about this place is that the walking paths have variety. There are stone steps, dirt paths, and logs to step on, as well as a variety of jungle gyms. There are some parking lots, mostly always full with many cars parked illegally. There are also a lot of cars parked along a red line at the side of the road.

Great place to hike in Taichung. Entry area was quite busy being filled with market stalls. Do get the odd few market stalls up the trails if passing through roads. Can be difficult getting to this area though if using public transport.

We visited the Dakeng Scenic Area on March 2nd and initially planned to hike Trail 9. However, a portion of it was closed, so we backtracked and started our hike from Trail 9-1. We continued onto Trails 6 and 7, which offered a pleasant and manageable hike with good elevation. Before starting the trail, we explored the nearby market, which was a nice experience. There were also clean and convenient toilet facilities available at the trailhead. Overall, I would definitely recommend Dakeng Scenic Area to anyone looking for an easy and enjoyable hiking experience.
Daryl P — Google review
Started from trail 2 which was researched to be the steepest, which connected to trail 5, walked up to reach trail 4 and then U-turn-ed back down trail 5, and exited via trail 1. A continuous walk that took ~2.5 hours. The views were limited as it’s mostly thick vegetation. The trail felt technical because it was 95% logs 🪵 which required a lot of balancing and looking down where you step to ensure your foot 🦶🏻 does not slip into the gaps in between. One gets shaky legs because of all the constant tiptoeing and balancing on the steps, and if you have larger feet, that means less surface to balance on. It felt like an endless path Even on a cloudy day, there were sections that felt more damp and wet on the rope handles & logs, and made it more dangerous. Certain sections of the stairs were quite steep Along the way could see quite a number of other older folks hiking as well, and impressed by their quiet determination. Not exactly a trail I would sign up for because there is no nice peak point, and the journey terrain was not changing much nor very much enjoyable Took a taxi into the start point and quite a bit of driving through winding path, and not sure how accessible it is via public transport honestly. Was luckily able to get uber quite easily to enter and exit, but cost about $625 TWD each way from central Taichung

Farm
Qingjing Farm, situated in Renai Township, Nantou, is a picturesque mountaintop destination known for its stunning views and natural beauty. The area boasts lush green hills where sheep graze freely, offering visitors the chance to enjoy scenic walks and admire cherry blossoms. The Green Green Grassland is a popular spot within the farm, featuring charming walking trails and opportunities to capture idyllic photos of the landscape and sheep.
Amusing. It's nice that it's very free roam, no staff around, just you do whatever you want, walk around randomly, buy from vending machines etc. Kinda rustic. But also a pretty mountainside. But also a very steep place and tiring place to walk around. You cannot bring a stroller. So I was carrying my toddler, oof. The food at the food court area is actually pretty decent. I recommend it. Don't have to eat burgers or 7-11 really.

As someone who’s 100% a city girl, I have to admit this wasn’t quite my scene. If you’re not used to farm smells or the possibility of stepping in fresh goat poop, I’d suggest just enjoying a stroll around the Skyline instead! The goats themselves were surprisingly calm—but I personally couldn’t handle them walking and… doing their business at the same time. Let’s just say, it was a bit too authentic for me. One highlight for me was the friendly ticket counter staff—she spoke fluent American English, which made communication really easy and pleasant. That was a small but much appreciated touch! There’s also a cute little store inside, though I do wish someone had told us earlier that our tickets could be used to redeem drinks. We only found out after leaving the farm—what a miss! The cool mountain air was lovely, and my boyfriend clearly had a great time. As for me… I wore my best “I’m enjoying this” face while silently wishing for fresher air.

Beautiful park if it was not for the cloudy and rainy day along with cold weather, there are sheep and horse shows every day. I recommend going to see the beautiful views of the hills of Taiwan.
Aviator C — Google review
The farm offers breathtaking scenes, blue sky and mountain views. It's suitable for different ages as there are many different entertainment options such as sheep show, horse and aerobic show, and sky walk. The food court is also very nice, offering different dishes. The sellers there are kind and welcoming. They even let me sample the bamboo soup for free!

Despite the rain throughout the day, our trip to Sun Moon Lake and Cingjing Farm in Taiwan was truly memorable. The scenery was still breathtaking, and the cool mist added a unique charm to the experience. A special thank you to our driver, whose attentiveness and dedication made all the difference. He navigated safely, kept us comfortable, and remained cheerful and professional the entire time. His care and commitment really stood out and made us feel well looked after. It was a great day overall, and I'm grateful for such a smooth and enjoyable journey

I’m glad I came here in mid-February, I got to see the cherry blossoms. It was breezy, cool, and sunny, a perfect day on the hillside. You can feed the sheep with dry grass, which you can buy from a vending machine! (Be mindful though, they might headbutt you for food and get a bit pushy if you’re holding that tempting treat so you need to hide it). There’s also a simple yet charming horse show to watch. I truly enjoyed my visit.
Danielle G — Google review
It was raining and foggy. Most of the time we are hiding in shelter and had minimal interaction with the sheep. We waited for the horse performance. It was slippery, a girl was running to catch the show fell face on. It was so dangerous, what if roll down the slope. Another tour bus gave up visiting under this kind of weather.
Cindy T — Google review
The farm itself is quite boring, only goats. Not big. Horses riding show is much more interesting

Nestled in the heart of Taichung, Maple Garden is a delightful urban oasis that offers a refreshing escape from the bustling city life. This charming green space spans 3 hectares and features a picturesque U-shaped layout, complete with a serene pond teeming with fish and turtles. Visitors can meander along winding paths surrounded by vibrant red trees and lush grass, making it an ideal spot for leisurely strolls or quiet moments of reflection.
Very well designed city park. The park are located into a depress where a pond took the centre stage. Geese, turtle and fish populated the pond. Music will be heard through the speaker in the heart shaped building. They purposely pump water uphill to create a stream for you to enjoy the sight and sound. Some path are created via stones or wood chips giving you another terrain experience. Because large luxury apartment nearby, the sun was shielded. You could be at the pond edge but it's well shaded . Love the red bridge on the pond , creating certain aesthetic to the whole dimension. Only nit pick is it lacked of playground for kids to monkey around.
Mark O — Google review
It features a central lake with red bridges, eco-friendly walking trails, and beautiful day-to-night scenery. Originally intended for construction, the site was transformed into a green space with flood control functions. It’s ideal for walking, jogging, picnics, photography, and birdwatching. The garden combines nature, relaxation, and sustainable urban design, making it a popular spot for both locals and visitors.

A beautiful garden to represent the green culture of TaiChung. A nice short walk for a change of environment while seeing different sorts of animals like swans and turtles! Once you check out the place, you'll definitely want to support their cause and insight on the environment!

It’s a hidden gem in the center of the city! We saw beautiful geese and birds! Had a nice relaxing time observing the birds and walking around. There’s a parking station right next to the park; very convenient! A hit while visiting Taichung this time!
Judy H — Google review
This is quite a wondrous place to visit. It is the only ecological park in Taiwan formed by digging deep into the ground. It's also an ideal place for many who have inclinations for a nice Taichung city view. No matter which season it is, walking in the Maple Garden is a visual enjoyment! You should definitely pay a visit to the infamous Daily greens, Kyoto. A tea house made from an old sake barrel! And yes the sky there is visually deep blue.

Considered the center of Taichung. Park is ooen and descends towards the middle to a small pond with some swans and a great garden. Not much to do but its a pleasant walk and families tend to go there on weekends. Not crowded but plenty of people. Very accessible and even has motorcycle parking which is almost always full in daytime. Nearby, Chaoma bus stations for provincial buses, Taiwan blvd, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Mall and Top City Mall. Also has a lot of hotels around it.

Daxueshan is a fantastic destination for birders. It is also much calmer and quieter than other developed resort areas like Alishan and Shanlinxi. Driving up the mountain can be a challenge if you aren't experienced.

Great customer service, everyone at the park is extremely friendly and helpful. The park is clean and well maintained. One of the trails is closed for maintenance so please check before you plan your visit. We stayed at the small wooden cabin, it is also very clean and water is hot. The meal is buffet style. Our family had a wonderful stay!! We will visit again for sure! 👍👍

It's beautiful and very dense forest. Deer, Bears and forest monkey are easily visible there. It is cold place even during summer also. So please carry warm jacket when visited this site. For the Taichung resident, ticket price is only 100 NTD.
Rajan S — Google review
I should describe this place as wonderful. Been there in early September, when it was so hot and humid in Taipei. whereas this place was so chilling at noon. If you are planning to stay longer at the top, consider taking a jacket. Please try to go to the top, the road is good, can drive car to the top. There are information centers along the way and there is a facility for drinking water (both hot and cold) and clean toilets. You can also buy some snacks. Lookout for birds and the beautiful mountains.

"The Great Snow Mountain" national forest park locates in the middle Taiwan. The elevation is over 2000 meter. There are serval trails, where one can walk inside forests. There are two famous giant "Red Juniper" trees in the forest trails, the small one is estimated over 1000 years old, and the big one is about 1500 years old. There are a variety of wildlife. I am lucky seeing unique birds including "Imperial Pheasant" and "Blue-bellied Pheasant". Super happy 😃 ❤️ 👍!

The market offers a wide variety of food stalls catering to the local student population, as well as fashionable items and night market games. Despite being lively, it's not overwhelmingly crowded, making it an accessible and enjoyable experience for visitors.
One of the most well known and popular night markets in Taichung, with various stores selling food and clothes. Tried the famous chicken steak deep fried and fried egg pancake, delicious.
Aviator C — Google review
Yizhong Street Night Market in Taichung's North District is a vibrant and energetic! Its location near universities fuels a youthful, lively atmosphere. This bustling market offers an incredible array of delicious and affordable street food, from iconic bubble tea to crispy fried chicken and savory crepes. You'll find clothing, accessories, and unique trinkets galore. The energetic crowds and bright lights create an exciting and immersive experience, especially in the evening. It's a perfect place to soak in the local Taichung culture and enjoy a fun night out with friends. The convenient location makes it easily accessible. Overall, Yizhong Street Night Market provides a positive and memorable experience with its fantastic food, diverse shopping, and vibrant atmosphere.

Not many food shops. We tried the steamed gyoza, the oden, the hakaho, all pretty good. One thing that spoil the evening is the constant fight with motorbikes. Taichung please do like Japan or Vietnam ,place barriers and guards at all access points so that we can safely enjoy our evenings.
Jean L — Google review
A night market close to my hotel. It was a smaller night market as compared to Fengjia and is mostly frequented by students. Still, there is delicious food to be found there. Can visit this place if you have extra time, otherwise I would recommend that you visit Fengjia Night Market instead.
Evelyn B — Google review
This is a huge night street market in Taichung! You can find lots of the usual Taiwan street food fare here including stinky tofu, fried mushrooms, grilled beef cubes, refreshing watermelon drinks (in the summer) and more. “Angel chicken” is especially famous here and there was a long queue ~15 min for a HUGE piece of Taiwan fried chicken. It was average in taste but the portion was indeed massive. The vibe was energetic, lively, and we even saw a couple of street performers when we visited. The location is really good for shopping — Lining the streets are also trendy clothes and accessories stores that open til late to cater to the younger crowds. If you head north and to the main road (Sanmin Rd), you can easily get to Chungyo Department store for even more mainstream shopping options too. For those interested in thrifting and vintage wear, there are lots of such stores in the southern end (Alley 5, Lane 19, Taiping Rd on Google Maps). Or you can search for a few of these stores: 公主毛病, 星期一古著/Blue Monday, mushroom_division.

Very lively. We went here on a Saturday and it’s full of locals and tourists alike. Must try: the Taiwanese Chicken and Milky Donut.

Lovely little walk, great place to eat your ice-cream or relax... You are still surrounded by the hustle from Taichung traffic, but the birds and fish do distract you...

This river walk is ordinarily a very pleasant oasis in the busy city of Taichung. But During Christmas, this river walk turns into a beautiful light show. Taichung Station Railway Cultural Park is a must-visit destination in the high-tech manufacturing hub of Taichung, Taiwan. Just two hours from Taipei, Taichung boasts a pleasant climate, awe-inspiring scenery, mouth-watering delights like XL Chicken Cutlet and Bubble Tea, and friendly locals.
Very cool place loved walking around, great place to bring the kids loads to do and see. Nice shops in the carriage and the cafe in carriage is very nice. Basic coffee and desserts, had limited space but mostly people were just there to take pictures. The staff are really nice and provided a good service, didn’t have to wait too long for the coffee and cakes. Seating was very comfortable. The 711 vending machine was so cool to see and plenty of options. For sure worth a visit.

The building is beautiful BUT….. There are a lot of homeless people. litter is thrown everywhere. And the most SHOCKING thing is, I found homeless's poop💩in the elevator. That disgusting. Hygiene minus/5 Visit on January
Tashin J — Google review
The station is large and clean. You can find lockers to store small and big luggages. There are multiple lockers on the ground floor near Starbucks, and downstairs in the waiting room of the bus terminal. The station is not located in the city center. To go to city center you can take local train or metro. There is only 1 line for the metro and it goes to the west part of the city center. There are multiple buses going to the city center as well.
Ela Y — Google review
I really love everything here. It is the old Taichung train station located just right next to the new one. Large space, cafe, art decorations, gift shops. Tons of corner to take photos. They have the souvenir stamps for you to collect too, just need to bring your own paper. I visit and revisit and I still love everything. Sometimes on weekends, there are the craft market too and it's pretty crowded.
Ricky L — Google review
Beautiful Construct but... Taichung City Renovated it beautifully with the modern building amalgamated with old station. It is also really convenient close to the South East Asian Market, Taroko Mall, and other tourist attractions. Though what detracts from the beauty is there is a lot of homeless people, there is quite a bit of rubbish and some of the construction is incomplete. So you have to trek a distrace to get to places but not so pretty.
Roy “ — Google review
The souvenirs stamping is incomplete Only managed 2,others stamping was not there... Should have take note to improve
Poko C — Google review
Love how they repurposed the old train station! Cars are still on the track, but now house gift shops and cafes. Honestly I thought the souvenirs here were amazing! I sometimes struggle to find postcards and coin purses that I like (these are the souvenirs I get everywhere I go), but I thought there was a good selection here. Obviously located closely to the new train station so it’s pretty easy to get too. And located close to other attractions to fill your time.

Really beautiful place but the entry fee of 350 dollars is quite expensive. The lady on the gate wasn’t very nice either her manner is quite rude. The restaurant food didn’t try, it’s very expensive even with the 100nt voucher the give you we did spend it or order food. Good place to take wedding photos if you want to. Not easy to get there if you don’t have a car. Overall it was ok, one of the places once you see it once you don’t go back. Really suggest look at the entrance fee before planning to go there. It’s an amazing place! We just went there this afternoon for the first time (Tuesday) and there was hardly anyone else. It’s just like our own castle and that experience was fantastic. There’s a great little wooden trail which was nicely taken care of. Just come and you won’t be disappointed. I heard the castle was built 20 years ago, it’s hard to see a private location that’s well maintained in Taiwan for that long. Take your time there, have a cup of coffee, stay chill.

Attended an architect show by renowned Japan architect 隈研吾 whose design blends building with nature. Sadly to know that this show is the closing one. The mainly outdoor museum will be closed in preparation to the future major project that mix museum, church, upscale apartment and commercial buildings. The exact blue print is still on the drawing though as I heard.

It really depends on when you visit. We were there on a Sunday evening and um, we only saw a handful of tin houses. If you are visiting for the art it might be best to check first what exhibitions are up. Otherwise it's also a nice civic space to just sit and chill.

The CMP museum is an open space for public. The space is not so big. About 20 min to walk through all the arts. Some front end or amateur art is exhibited here. There are 3 outdoor and one indoor exhibit area.

Located across from a large park and next to Intercontinental Hotel. This mall isn’t very big, but it does have a surprisingly spacious bookstore. It’s impressive to see so many books, especially in today’s digital age. They also sell vinyl records and turntables, which are quite rare to find in stores these days. There are several clothing shops, cosmetics, parfume (a lot of) and cute stationery stores. You’ll also find a large bakery, a few restaurants, and some food stalls. This mall is pet friendly.

It’s just an average mall in a big name location: it’s small, but does have a decent 誠品 bookstore; otherwise just go to Mitsukoshi or 大遠百 if you actually need to buy something.

One of my favorite department stores in Taichung, for its size and location, and also for the Thai/Vietnamese Noodle Restaurant downstairs, which has 5 choices of fabulous Tom Yam and Pho soups that are very satisfying and balanced. Families can enjoy rope obstacle courses and leisurely walks while kids have plenty of fun activities to keep them entertained.
Exploration and observation of the living environment for fireflies. There are two types of fireflies. First are the yellow fireflies, they mostly live around waters or rivers. Then the second is the green fireflies, they prefer to live among grasslands, they are very beautiful. I was very happy when they landed on my hand, but I don't have a photo, it's too dark. My experience was quite exciting, only that it was raining, everything was wet and the roads were quite dangerous to walk on... Be careful.

This is an incredible place. We came here a few years ago and we are back this time. The place is well maintained and it‘s a great place for kids! Our kids did quite a workout here at the park and they enjoyed it very much. I recommend this place if you are visiting the Taichung area. We will be back for sure when visiting Taiwan again.

Really good place for anyone lives in central of Taiwan to experience the mountains and the fresh air.
Cheng S — Google review
This place has changed a lot comparing to the last time I went, it is currently under a infrastructural maintenance, and the trails is restricted to a significantly smaller zone, as the owner decided to turn a part of the trails into a tree reserved area. I'm not expressing my personal opinion on this decision, whether it is correct or not, only stating the facts here, as I'm only a visitor here and the constructions are yet completed, it is just not a right time to go recently.

Fire flies galore If you have any children interested in fire flies, there are several paths to see the active fire flies in the Dongshi Forest in April. The primary viewing area is about a 15 minute walk uphill from the parking lot. The remainder of the path is up and down through the forest. The fire flies were quite beautiful to observe and there were several valleys along the path full of twinkling fire flies. It is about an hour drive from Taichung City. The park has a reasonable entry fee and the fire flies usually come out about an hour after sunset. The only set back was the loud music from a elementary overnight school activity near the parking lot. We visited the park after dusk, so can’t comment about crowds or activities during the day. Enjoy!

Visitors can enjoy a family-friendly environment with a playground for kids, as well as a pond where ducks, fish, and turtles can be observed. Additionally, there are designated areas to sit under the shade of trees.

Well organized. Trees are trimmed and grass is mowed. Great for picnic, walks and pets. Plastic bags and bins are provided. There is a pond and bridge in the center of the park. And as the name, there are many sculptures to see.
Redd L — Google review
Great park for a walk and activities. There is a kids play area in one corner that has a sand box, climbing course and a very nice bathroom, another kids playground in the opposite corner of the park. A lot of very nice sculptures, a great bridge with pond and a waterfall on one side. Although the water is a bit green there is still a lot of beautiful fish and wildlife to see.
Roman S — Google review
Lovely park with pond, fish, ducks and a waterfall with walkway, bridge crossing over it and the fountain was turned on whilst we were there. Good toilet amenities at both end of the park. Lots of different sculptures throughout the park and some shaded areas where you can stop and sit. We took a picnic so sat under the trees overlooking the pond on the stone table and chairs. The children’s play area at one side was busy as it was shaded; the normal play structure with a couple of slides; exercise equipment but not much else. At the other end of the park is the sand pit play area. This was in direct sun so we didn’t spend too long there. Also one of the ‘saucer’ type swings is all metal, so not the best design for a hot country and in direct sunlight! There’s toilets here and a place to wash feet, so added bonus. Overall a lovely place to take little ones and spend a few hours having a wander etc...
Jane H — Google review
A very nice park! I'm surprised that there weren't more people here over the weekend. There's a large bridge over a pond with lots of fish and turtles. There's a vendor nearby that sells fish food for 10NTD a bag. There's another small bridge along a small waterfall at the north side of the park. Throughout the rest of the park you'll find many art sculptures.
Daniel A — Google review
It’s a great park, it’s big, it has playgrounds, monkey bars, swings, etc. Highly recommend it to come with your family or bring a pet, solo is fine as well of course. It is well-maintained. The trees are cut regularly, only issue is that the bridge near the lake smells really off so I tend to keep my distance away from there, I’ve seen people feed the fishes and swans inside the lake too.
Jolin C — Google review
Lovely family friendly park with sculptures, kids play area, and a bridge across a pond where you can feed ducks, you fish and little turtles. Note that no cycling (and board sports too?) allowed inside the park for safety.
Ryuhei H — Google review
Park with reasonable kids area where parents can leave their kids for couple of hours to play. Slides, swings, wall climbing and lot of clean sand area for younger kids. Best part they have water taps and neutral toilet in the middle…neutral toilet totally confused me because ladies can see men standing peeing but may be this is acceptable in local culture.

It's a nice area to walk around and visit some of the exhibition halls to learn more about the craft scene in Taiwan. It’s cool open air basement mall area that is pretty a modern adobe desert style. In the main courtyard area there are some kid playground and some kid adult games like ping pong and etc. I have seen these kinda parks in China (Shanghai) which are very cool but this one is fairly small so the weekend crowds makes it’s a little loud and difficult to move around. At top perimeter there are few local craft pop up shops and some local food vendors doing fusion street food. It’s near the mid size mall and mini park so it’s worth dropping by on a non crowded day and let’s kids play on playground. Places like this for city is great but Taichung / Taiwan need to do more and larger size projects like theses.

The park boasts a diverse range of high mountain environments, river valleys, rare wildlife including native black bears, and a rich variety of forest types.

“Yunba National Park” is located at the junction of Hsinchu, Miaoli and Taichung counties. The entire area is surrounded by mountains and rivers and is very beautiful. The Snow Mountain, Dabajian Mountain, Wuling Sixiu, etc., as well as the steep holy ridge line, are all good places for mountaineers to practice themselves. In addition, the most well-planned areas in the park are Guanwu and Wuling Districts 1. Wuling Recreation Area: There are trails in the natural landscape forest, Qijiawan Creek that conserves cherry blossom salmon, and an over-cultivated fruit and vegetable garden.Walking in the recreation area, looking around, a large area of hillside land has been reclaimed into orchards and cabbage gardens, with cabbages nestled closely together. This landscape is in sharp contrast to the conservation mission of the national park. 2. Guanwu Recreation Area: The altitude is relatively high, about 2,000 meters. The undulating mountains provide a rich environment for plant growth. The mountains, forests, and rivers have become a good habitat, breeding many species of creatures, including many species of Taiwan's endemic flora and fauna, such as the Limuhua impatiens, the dawn swallowtail butterfly, and so on. In the early years, the Dalu Forest Farm once cut down a large amount of virgin forest. Fortunately, after the mining was stopped, forest restoration was carried out, making the forest in the recreation area lush and green, with the constant sound of crows, making it the best place for forest bathing.

Visitors can engage in activities such as building snowmen, engaging in snowball fights, skiing, and sledding down slopes.
Very nice design but not nicely maintained. And the price varies, walk-in price is the highest.

Scenic spot
Taiwan Connection 1908 is a charming stretch of reclaimed railway that extends just over a kilometer from Taichung Station, running parallel to the canal. This scenic pathway is perfect for joggers and couples looking for a romantic stroll, as it connects visitors to the vibrant Taichung Creative and Cultural Industries Park. One of its standout features is the Stallings Path, which invites guests to explore historical remnants of the old railway, enriching their experience with a touch of nostalgia.
This is a very nice place to spend an evening either jogging or simply relax and doing nothing. It’s night next to the train station, but sits quietly in a residential area. It’s full of nostalgia with the historical remains. There’s a tunnel with some old pictures, too, to remind you the good old days in this area. If you like to jog, the trail under the rail road last for miles and with good shades even in the summer days. highly recommended.
Jason C — Google review
One of its most unique features is the Stallings Path, a scenic walkway that leads visitors through the station’s historical remnants, adding an immersive touch to the experience. Beyond the walkway, a flyover bridge offers an elevated perspective of the surrounding railway tracks, creating a sense of connection to the past. Walking along this path before or after a meal enhances the visit, making it more than just a dining stop but a journey through history. The menu highlights refined Taiwanese flavors, balancing tradition and innovation. The tea-smoked duck is a standout, with a delicate smoky aroma that enhances the tender meat. The braised pork rice is a comforting favorite, slow-cooked to perfection, while the seafood selections bring out the best of Taiwan’s coastal offerings. Pairing these with locally inspired teas or wines completes the experience. What makes Taiwan Connection 1908 truly special is how it integrates its historic railway setting into the dining experience. The combination of culinary excellence, a nostalgic atmosphere, and the charm of the Stallings Path and flyover makes it a must-visit destination in Taichung—perfect for history enthusiasts, food lovers, and anyone seeking a unique dining experience.

Walking Through the Heart of the City: From Chung Canal to Taiwan Connect If you’re looking to explore Taipei at a slower pace and truly take in the city’s charm, we highly recommend a leisurely walk from Chung Canal (忠孝運河) to Taiwan Connect — a delightful urban route that offers a mix of natural beauty, cultural touches, and modern design. 🌿 A Refreshing Urban Escape The area around Chung Canal is peaceful and well-kept, with clean walkways, green trees lining the paths, and water features that bring a sense of calm in the middle of the city. It’s a perfect starting point for a scenic stroll, especially in the morning or late afternoon when the sunlight softens and the air feels crisp and pleasant. 🏙️ Discover Art, Architecture, and Local Life As you walk toward Taiwan Connect, you’ll pass by charming urban scenery — from well-designed pedestrian paths and local cafes to small art installations and public spaces that reflect the creativity of modern Taipei. The area is known for being both clean and safe, making it enjoyable for solo travelers, couples, and even families with children. 📸 Perfect for Slow Travel & Photography The route is filled with photogenic corners: leafy trees, street art, modern architecture, and reflections in the canal water. It’s a great path for those who enjoy urban photography, relaxing walks, or simply taking a break from the crowds. 📍 How to Get There: You can start at the Chung Canal area, which is easily accessible by MRT or bike. From there, walk toward Taiwan Connect, a hub often associated with art spaces, events, or interactive installations depending on the season. The entire route is walkable in about 20–30 minutes, depending on your pace and how often you stop to take in the view.
Kawvarin S — Google review
Well preserved. Poems written about this area presented. On the ground level, there’s a small room showing pictures, models and memories about the life in the tilted wooden huts after WWII, that surely non-Chinese visitors would be interested if English translation is provided. More green on the walking path would also be appreciated as Tai Chung is already very very hot in early May.

Absolutely fantastic park. Tons of stuff for kids to do. Not for small kids! Finding the park is super easy. But parking is a challenge. There simply are not enough car parking spaces near the playground part of the park. There's a ton of space for scooters. The picnic area is awesome too. Tons of space and BBQ areas. Good place to go for a short 20-30 minute hike. The view from this platform is great on a clear day. You can see the whole city from the platform. The Botanical Garden of National Museum of Nature Science is a must-visit destination in Taichung. As you enter from the XiTun Road, you'll be greeted by a striking butterfly sculpture marking the entrance. The highlight of the garden is the expansive Greenhouse, which houses a lush tropical rainforest featuring swamps, ponds, an aquarium with large fish, and a climbable waterfall surrounded by beautiful foliage.
The Botanical Garden at the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung is a beautiful and peaceful escape that brings nature and science together. Covering a large outdoor area, this garden showcases a diverse collection of native and exotic plants, with well-maintained walking paths, themed gardens, and interactive exhibits that highlight Taiwan’s rich biodiversity. One of the standout features is the Tropic Rain Forest Greenhouse, a stunning glass dome that recreates a lush tropical jungle, complete with waterfalls and rare plant species. Outside, visitors can explore different ecological zones, including wetlands, medicinal plant gardens, and seasonal flower displays, all designed to educate and inspire appreciation for the natural world. The garden is a perfect spot for a relaxing stroll, photography, or a family outing. It’s also a great complement to the museum, offering an outdoor learning experience that connects science with nature. Whether you’re a plant enthusiast or just looking for a refreshing break in the city, the Botanical Garden is well worth a visit.

This place is pretty cool and I do recommend it if you have young kids. It's very affordable at around $2.50 USD per person. There is a neat semiconductor area and a cool way they show human evolution that's worth walking through. They also gave a theater but we didn't make it to that but it also looks pretty cool. The animated dinosaur area is pretty cool as well.
Rick C — Google review
Interesting place. we entered the dome and found few collection of plants. there's a small falls. also an aquarium with big fish but few.
John J — Google review
The admission is quite affordable to me as I have paid 12x times more for a conservatory of this size. You can get tickets at a self-service kiosk although they don't take cash. Only digital payment for... 20NT. I told the man at the door I had 20NT in cash so luckily he let me buy the ticket at the gate like the good old times. The Botanical Garden has an aesthetic layout. It concludes with an indoor area that houses some amphibious exhibits and large fish. There's snacks available for purchase, restrooms, and a water dispenser in the building as well.
Ally L — Google review
It’s so big that divided into 4,5 exhibitions. We bought 4 tickets thinking that we could visit them all but we didn’t, barely 2. Anyway, there’s a bit raining and we witnessed a beautiful double rainbow. Super worth it

An active garden / park full of people walking and strolling and doing calisthenics and parents & children and older people and younger people. It’s a lovely circle of green in the middle of the city, and can act as a walking path, along with a great place to simply relax and enjoy looking at all the plants that are labelled, and that represent the different regions of Taiwan‘s flora. Entrance to the garden is free of charge. I’ve never seen tickets being sold or used.

It was the very first time I visited a botanical garden in my life. Surrounding was really great. The main structure gave tropical forest type of view.
