1Cellular Jail

Historical place museum
Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani, is a former prison complex in India that has been transformed into a memorial and museum. It holds grim dioramas depicting the harsh lives of its inmates. The jail played a significant role in India's fight for independence, symbolizing the struggles and endurance of hundreds of freedom fighters who faced inhumane conditions and brutal treatment by jailors. Visiting this historic site offers insight into the untold miseries endured by these brave individuals.
1. Informative & helpful: “Cellular Jail is a must-visit in Port Blair — a moving reminder of India’s freedom struggle. Don’t miss the light and sound show in the evening, it beautifully brings history to life.” 2. Simple & traveler-focused: “Very emotional and historic place in Andaman. Visit in the evening for the light show and reach early to avoid crowds.” 3. Short & impactful: “A powerful symbol of India’s past — well-maintained and worth every minute. The light and sound show is a must-watch.”
BABU S — Google review
🟥 1-Star Review – For Those Not Interested in History If you’re not someone who enjoys history or museums, Cellular Jail might feel like a waste of time. The place is mostly about old walls, cells, and long corridors — nothing much to “see” or “do.” The tour takes quite a while, especially if you wait for the light and sound show, which adds even more time. For someone just looking for fun or beautiful spots in the Andamans, this place feels dull, slow, and overly serious. You’ll spend a lot of time walking through empty cells and reading boards — which can get tiring and repetitive. There’s no interactive display or modern attraction to make it more engaging. Honestly, if you’re not into Indian freedom history, you may end up wondering why you even came here. Verdict: Overhyped, time-consuming, and boring if history doesn’t excite you. Rating: ⭐️ (1/5) Ticket: ₹30 — cheap, but not worth your time. ⸻ 🟩 5-Star Review – For History Lovers For those who love history and patriotism, Cellular Jail is an emotional and unforgettable experience. It’s not just a monument — it’s a powerful reminder of India’s struggle for freedom. Every corridor, every cell tells a story of pain, sacrifice, and courage. The ticket costs just ₹30, but the feeling you get walking through this historic site is priceless. The light and sound show in the evening beautifully narrates the jail’s story and the sufferings of freedom fighters — it’s deeply moving. Verdict: A must-visit for anyone who values history, heritage, and emotion.
Viren P — Google review
The Cellular Jail which is famous by "KALA PANI" The jail was built by Britishers almost 2 centuries ago around 1858. In the past the jail was covered by water all around. Now a days it is heritage museum in the memory of freedom fighters. I also experienced the light sound program at the site. The program is solely gungaan of savarker. The earlier version was different and now a days hero is savarker amongst the all freedom fighters.
PRITPAL S — Google review
Historic monument having snippets of British opression against Indian freedom struggle. The light and sound show is a must see which is available in Hindi and English, check timings before booking. The light and sound show depicts the history of freedom movement and British opression. The video, narration, effects and script and world class. The overall show is a world class, which can beat projection system any show on the world stage. The usage of jail as a back drop for projection is perfectly blended in the story.
Ankur A — Google review
I visited the Cellular Jail last September, and it was a truly memorable experience. The site is well maintained by the Government, preserving its historical importance. Visitors need to buy a ticket to enter, and in the evenings, there’s a light and sound show that brings the freedom struggle to life
Ashish S — Google review
Cellular Jail also known as Kala Pani, which tells the story of India's freedom struggle. This is now state as National Memorial remembering the revolutionarie like the Great Savarkar Brothers and Barindra Kumar Ghosh. Feel the architectural design, which tells numerous stories of struggles and witness the pain they suffer for us. Such a heart-felt place. For witnessing the struggle story, they're arranged a light-sound show for tourists. Can book through their online portal. The memories were showcased through a museum, art gallery and photo gallery. This place a must visit if anyone travel to the island.
Saraswati M — Google review
Cellular Jail, also known as Kalapani, is an unforgettable place to visit in Port Blair. The evening light and sound show was excellent, beautifully showcasing the struggles and survival of our freedom fighters. In the morning, we explored the jail premises, saw the cells, and learned their stories through sculptures and images. The coordinators explained the history in detail, making the experience even more meaningful. A truly inspiring and must-visit landmark.
Tom P — Google review
MUST visit ... Can feel the vibes of the great freedom fighters who sacrifices their lives then. British colonial architecture with great ocean island view from the top 3rd floor. Veer Savarkar cell on 2nd floor at the end. Gallow room, punishment cell, museum pics, old tree within the premises -- all are historic. DONT miss the evening Light show briefing the history ... It'll surely give you goosebumps. ONLINE booking starts a week ago at 9AM.

Specialty Museums
The Naval Marine Museum Samudrika, located in Port Blair, is a renowned attraction in Andaman that offers a fascinating display of marine life and island history. The museum boasts an extensive collection of coral, fish, shells, and other marine artifacts. Visitors can also find various items for sale at the museum. Notable exhibits include rare specimens such as the dugong, a rarely seen sea mammal, and the giant robber crab, an impressive crustacean known for its imposing size.
Beautiful museum decorated by the Indian Navy. Lots of Sea Shell collections with Andaman History. A well maintained museum depicting flora fauna, history of Andaman and Nicobar Islands which includes the native tribes, beautiful corals, sea shells etc. There's also aquarium and info about our Indian Navy ships. Better to visit this prior to visiting other islands of Andaman so that you know what to expect when you explore the beautiful islands. The museum is well-organized and offers a comprehensive overview of the islands' ecosystem. It has several sections displaying a variety of exhibits like corals, shells, and even a collection of rare fish and sea creatures.
Pavan R — Google review
If you have some time in Port Blair, then definitely 💯 visit this museum! It’s open till 5pm only, but it is so worth it. How beautifully and in detail they have covered each and every aspect of Andaman & Nicobar (yes there’s a separate section for Nicobar as well where one can actually understand the diversity in this community as well) Andaman, it’s significance in the Navy is very well depicted here. The coral 🪸 life, shells 🐚 everything can be seen here. I would highly recommend coming here! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Good place for family visits with kids! And teens. Really knowledgeable and prettyy! Many things to look at and explore..interactive and indoor showcasing with Air conditioning so a good place to escape heat hehe. There is also souvenir shop to explore. For only 50rs. Good experience centre for visiting in small or big groups. Lot of varieties exists for learning and experiencing . With decent arrangement by academy along with air conditioning rooms Duration : Good for 1 to 2 hrs visit Location : Prime city Shop: Has one small shop to purchase memorable gift in the tour

You will see the naval development around Indian water ways from ancient period. There are rooms for corals and shells. Different types of beautiful corals are presented. Lots of different kind of shells can also be seen. Another room is kept for different tribes of Andaman and Nicobar islands. A bit informative. Asked the security. Photography allowed.
Asif I — Google review
Has different sections for corals, aquatic life, history of ship building in India, Andaman tribes, and a new section comprising naval and aircraft models. I found the Indian ship building history to be quite interesting - from the Lothal dockyard to the Chola dynasty Navy supremacy. There is also a pair of huge old binoculars which is calibrated to view the light house! There is a souvenir shop as well which is pricey. You can get the same stuff outside for cheaper. Entry fee is 50 Rs. Washroom available. Parking for 2 wheelers opposite to the museum.
Karen S — Google review
Lovely, small naval marine museum where can spend an hour. Artifacts and corals kept in various air-conditioned rooms. Small gift store inside towards the end. Don't miss out on capturing the pics at selfie point in the garden center.
Shekhar A — Google review
Well maintained and quite informative museum. Blue whale skeleton, coral/shells exhibits, aquarium, tribal exhibits were well kept and maintained. One can easily spend 1 to 1.5 hrs here. A must go place if you are in Port Blair.

Marina Park, also known as Samudrika Marine Park, is a small yet picturesque park located on the pristine coastlines of Port Blair in Andaman. It offers scenic views, kids' play areas, and a long pier providing access to boating and water sports. Adjacent to the park is the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex and the Marine Aquarium. The nearby Children's Traffic Park provides an educational experience for youngsters.
This is a wonderful spot to unwind in the evening or enjoy a peaceful morning walk. The place is thoughtfully designed for everyone, no matter your age. I love how the fresh sea breeze instantly lifts my mood and fills me with energy. It’s a simple, beautiful experience that always makes me feel good.

Merina park is located in the marine drive of port blair. The park is well maintained and one of the tourist attraction of port blair. Kids enjoy this place very much. Plenty of sitting arrangements are there with cool breeze from sea shore. There is an open gym, although almost all the equipments are broken. Opposite side of the park, there are plenty of street food shops. You can spend evening well in this place.
Sandip B — Google review
Marina Park in Port Blair is a serene waterfront space offering a refreshing break from the bustle of the town. With clean walking paths, seating areas, and a peaceful view of the sea, it's a pleasant place to unwind—especially in the evening when the breeze sets in.At the center of the park stands the statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, reminding us of his vision for modern India. The park is ideal for a short walk, spending time with family, or simply sitting in quiet contemplation with the sea in front of you. However, it could benefit from better signage or plaques to inform visitors about the significance of the landmarks, including the statue.
Anish D — Google review
The park features a garden adjacent to the beach, with the Aberdeen Jetty providing access to Ross Island (now NSCB Island) and North Bay Island. Various food stalls and cafes are available, along with seating areas. Visitors can enjoy walking and running up to the Netaji Tiranga Point.

North Bay Island in Andaman is a paradise for underwater activities. It offers scuba diving, snorkeling, and a unique undersea walk that allows you to explore the marine life without diving deep into the sea. The island also provides thrilling water sports at Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex in Port Blair and Elephant Beach and Nemo Reef on Havelock Island.
North Bay Island in Andaman is a stunning destination, famous for its breathtaking beauty and vibrant marine life. The island holds historical significance as its scenic view is featured on the back of the old ₹20 red-colored note, making it even more special to visit. This island is a paradise for adventure lovers, offering a variety of water activities such as scuba diving, sea walking, submarine rides, and glass-bottom boat rides. The highlight of the experience is the mesmerizing coral reefs, which are not only beautiful but also ecologically significant. My family and I had an amazing time exploring the underwater world and enjoying the serene surroundings. The best time to visit North Bay Island is between November and February when the weather is pleasant, making the experience even more enjoyable. A must-visit spot for nature and adventure enthusiasts!
Khushboo A — Google review
The activities were good, people were helpful in the island, and there was amazing coconut water available. Kayaked there, did the submarine. keep in mind that kayaking is allowed only from 12 years to 50 years old. Most water activities had this age limit. We couldn't do snorkeling with kids because of the age limits
Priya R — Google review
Nice guided tour for water activities. Well trained staffs and they train tourists quick but very effective. Top of it in case if you cancel the rides or activities at last moment or even it rains then they refund the money fully 👌👍🙏

North Bay Island, located in the Andaman archipelago, is a vibrant destination known for its stunning coral reefs and crystal-clear waters. It’s famous for its water-based activities, such as snorkeling and scuba diving, offering visitors an up-close look at vibrant marine life and colorful coral formations. The island is easily accessible by boat from Port Blair and is often included in day-trip itineraries. One of the highlights is the opportunity to explore underwater life through glass-bottom boats, making it accessible even for non-swimmers. Beyond the water activities, North Bay Island also boasts beautiful sandy beaches and panoramic views, perfect for relaxation and beachcombing. The island’s serene ambiance makes it an ideal spot for both adventure and relaxation. In summary, North Bay Island is a paradise for marine enthusiasts and those seeking a tranquil escape, making it a must-visit spot in the Andamans.
Uday K — Google review
It's best to avoid scuba diving on this particular island in North bay island Reasons: * They charge ₹3,500 for a scuba dive that should only cost ₹2,500. The extra ₹1,000 is a commission for the boat operators. * They promise to take you down to 12 meters but only take you to a depth of 4 meters. * The visibility is very poor, so you won't be able to see much. * You'll only stay underwater for two minutes. * The camera used underwater is not a GoPro; it's some other local, low-quality camera.
Faizal K — Google review
Water is a bit clear in October. You can do scuba for experience. As I found an offer for 1500 inr for scuba so did it for 2nd time. There are options for snorkeling, scuba, glassboat ride, submarine ride etc. Dont go for the trap at marina park for activities. Go to Northbay and book it by yourself as we did for scuba and glassboat ride. Marine life is rich enough to soothe your eyes.

North Bay Island, near Port Blair, is famous for its stunning coral reefs and vibrant marine life. Known as the “Coral Island,” it’s a top spot for snorkeling, scuba diving, and sea walking. Nothing much in the island except water activities and these all activities and more are available in Elephant Island that you may see during Havelock Island visit. 🌅 Joggers Park – The Heartbeat of the City with a Sky Full of Wonders! 🏞️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If there’s one place in the city that perfectly blends activity with tranquility, it’s Joggers Park. Centrally located and easily accessible, this open-space haven is one of my absolute favorite spots to relax, breathe, and just be. 🛫 Panoramic Views – A Treat for the Eyes What sets Joggers Park apart is its 360° scenic beauty. On one side, you get a front-row view of the nearby airport, where flights take off and land gracefully—almost like a live painting in motion. On the other, open skies stretch endlessly, creating a mesmerizing backdrop especially during sunrise and sunset. The hues of the sky—pinks, oranges, purples—are simply breathtaking. If you’re into photography, or just love watching the sky shift shades, this is your spot. 📸🌄 👟 Perfect for Fitness & Leisure Whether you're into morning runs, evening walks, yoga, or just some me-time, the park offers plenty of space. The track is well-maintained, and there’s enough open area to stretch out or do group workouts. It’s also ideal for seniors and families with kids looking to enjoy a safe, open space. 🍃 Atmosphere & Amenities The cool breeze, especially during early mornings and post-sunset hours, makes it a refreshing retreat. While there’s no cover for rain (so best avoided on a rainy day), the wide openness is exactly what makes it so calming. 🚗 Parking & Refreshments Plenty of free parking is available, so driving here is hassle-free. Right near the entrance, you’ll find a few snack stalls selling tea, coffee, biscuits, and light refreshments. Nothing fancy, but perfect for a quick sip and chat after a jog. ☕ 💡 Evening Vibes & Lighting Come evening, the park lights up beautifully—soft lighting along the path creates a calm, almost magical vibe. Whether you’re coming solo, with friends, or just for a pause between a hectic day—Joggers Park has that effortless charm. 🚯 A Gentle Reminder This place is naturally beautiful—let’s all keep it that way. Please don’t litter, and help maintain the calm, clean vibe that makes this park so special. 💚 🏁 Final Thoughts Joggers Park is more than just a park—it's a slice of peaceful life tucked right in the city’s center. From plane-spotting to peaceful walks, golden hour selfies to quiet contemplation—this place has something for everyone. Highly recommended for fitness lovers, nature seekers, and anyone who enjoys the small, beautiful things in life.

Gandhi Park, situated in the heart of Port Blair, offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The park features lush gardens, walking paths, a lake, and multiple play areas for children. Visitors can also explore a Japanese bunker and admire the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the center. Families with young kids will appreciate the amusement rides and nature trail around the lake.
One of the attractions of Port Blair is Gandhi Park. Near administrative buildings of the city, this park was great admired by the viewers. But today there is a shabby look everywhere in the park. The water activities have been stopped, although it may be considered as good picnic spot. The flora and fauna of the park is still attractive. The statue of Gandhiji is really a good piece of work. The other works of art are also good.

Gandhi park is a quaint park including in particular a walk around a lake with plenty of water lilies. The park is currently undergoing a major renovation expected to include entrance, yoga area etc with bambou structures. I believe it will be gorgeous once completed. I'd suggest you only go now if you love lakes, lilies and small botanical gardens so much that you are ready to walk thru path under construction, kids equipments which are now out of commission, and construction waste which is still very visible. Busy construction staff was very friendly.

Visited Gandhi Park recently but unfortunately found it closed at the time of my visit. The park is known for its beautiful lake, boating facilities, and kid-friendly amusement rides, so I was looking forward to spending some relaxing time there. It is centrally located in Port Blair and reputed to be a peaceful spot with a lovely statue of Mahatma Gandhi. I hope it reopens soon so visitors can enjoy the walking trails and gardens, as it seems to be a nice green space for families and nature lovers. Will try again next trip!

Pleasant Park with Disappointing Boating Equipment Date of Visit: March 08, 2024 Description: I recently visited Gandhi Park on a sunny afternoon, and I must say that the park's greenery, cleanliness, and overall ambiance were quite impressive. The well-maintained lawns, colorful flower beds, and ample seating areas provided a pleasant environment for relaxation and outdoor activities. Greenery and Cleanliness: The park's greenery is definitely one of its highlights. The lush trees, neatly trimmed hedges, and well-kept grass create a serene and inviting atmosphere. Additionally, the cleanliness of the park is commendable, with garbage bins placed strategically and regular maintenance evident throughout. Non-Operational Boating Equipment: However, my experience was slightly marred by the non-operational boating equipment at the park's lake. I was looking forward to enjoying a peaceful boat ride on the lake, but to my disappointment, the boating equipment was not functional. This aspect detracted from the overall recreational opportunities the park could offer.Suggestions for Improvement: I would suggest that the park management prioritize the repair and maintenance of the boating equipment to enhance the recreational experience for visitors. Operational boating facilities would undoubtedly attract more park-goers and contribute positively to the park's offerings. A very nice place to visit in Andaman, we enjoyed it a lot it has a serene environment. Kids will enjoy a lot there is a play area too for kids to play and spend their time. I enjoyed it a lot next to the water area or pool area, there are a lot of fish and you can see a lot of tree flower trees and plants. If you go during the rainy time, it will be very enjoyable. I actually planned to spend thirty minutes there, but ended up spending more than ninety minutes. It is a good place for walking and spending your evening time. There are also a lot of small birds of different varieties or types, and a plethora of flowers in this park. A must visit for tourists to Andaman. I will suggest evening time to visit this place.

This is not a zoo!!! Please do not be deceived, this is a park but not a zoo and does not contain animals! Even the butterfly conservatory did not have any butterflies! The zoo used to be here but was moved 7 years ago to another part of the island and the management have failed to update Google! When we challenged the park management and asked for a refund, we were told that there is a clear sign showing it is a nature park despite google showing misleading information. They did not give us a full refund either. This was terrible service and not worth the trip! The park was also full of mosquitoes and our son was terribly disappointed as he was looking forward to seeing the crocodiles and monkeys.

The museum lies within the saw mill compound. While the museum itself doesn’t have a lot of items to see, when combined with the mill, the e bunker, and the bomb site, the place has a lot to offer. The museum has a few wooden artefacts and a model of the saw mill. The saw mill is the largest in Asia. The place was bombed among other places during world war || during the Japanese presence on the island. It was then I believe rebuilt. The mill is operational and you can see the work in action.

This would be the second incarnation of this restaurant that we have seen in the last few years and it is a marked improvement on what it use to be. Having said that the decor is a tad tacky.(specific to the terrace) The restaurant in the building i have no opinion of. The sea food is good. You get cold beer. The views are great....... but the staff is a bit.... Rude and at times out right incompetent. Port Blair is generally an expensive place(everything coming from the 'Mainland') So the markup seems justifiable. It often gets a bit confusing as there is the New Lighthouse Restaurant around the corner. But the marker is accurate for this place.

While searching different restaurants in Port Blair, this places name came up. We decided to give this place a visit. They have service on 2nd floor and rooftop. Rooftop was loud and noisy and they serve alcohol there. We chose the second floor which was calm and peaceful. The service was alright, not great. Food wasn't that great and the portion size was also small. The staff was courteous. You wouldn't be missing out anything if you miss out on this place.

Food with good staff here! I've no idea about the rooms they have was here just for lunch and dinner. View from the top where the gymkhana(sports Complex) and the park was clearly seen. There's an ATM nearby as well. This place can be reserved as well. It tends to fill up soon in night! So plan it accordingly.

Light house residency has a restaurant and bar, the two divided by a glass partition. The front facing section is the restaurant and the inner section is the bar area. They have a glass case with the day's seafood catch on display, including lobsters and live crabs. They prepare the fish as per customer's request. The food portions are only average so when ordering, order a little extra. One of the better restaurants in port Blair.

This place gets far less credit than it should. I visited this place out of chance, was totally unplanned. It didn’t show up on any tourist website. It’s a private museum which is run by a gentleman who has a lot of knowledge of the islands. Photography of the artifacts is prohibited. He explains in detail about the islands and it’s history. Usually in Hindi which is sort of like the local language, but he does the explanation in a combination of Hindi and English on request. It should be on your list of places to go to. They charge 250 per head (as far as I remember...) and it’s a good idea to give them a call before you head out there. Not crowded.

Look the property is nice. Location is good. Only problem is service and staff. A typical government establishment lethargic attitude. They charged 190₹ for the most pathetic rajma I have ever had. That too one small steel katori quantity. Over it, one had to ask for salt on the table, and water and I had to ask for a bit of onion as they just kept rajma and roti on the table and ran away. However, rooms are clean, ac works, person who gave water was nice. No wifi like most places in andamans. Network sucks in rooms. A cute looking dog roam around the place. Looks harmless but could not be liked by some guests who are not dog lovers. One can stay here but have minimum expectations. As I said earlier location wud not disappoint you. A lotttt of trees and greens around. For food go out and take a left, walk few metres, on right is a south indian shack ( real shack 10₹ for idli per piece and 50₹ fr a decent masala dosa. You can witness the pride of the past in the form of a really good collection of statues of our freedom fighters. Showcases historical personalities & the sacrifices they made during the freedom struggle. Veer Savarkar park homes statues of some of our brave freedom fighters who spent their lives in cellular jail. They have constructed statues of prominent personalities like Veer Savarkar & have given plaques with information. The well-preserved memorial within the park adds historical significance, making it a must-visit spot for both relaxation & a touch of heritage. You can come here to get some rest after your visit to the jail or while you are waiting for your chance to attend the light and sound show. In the evening, National anthem played in cellular jail light & sound show is audible in this park, which makes it even more beautiful. Neatly maintained. Truly inspiring. Must visit.

We came here during the daytime after a visit to the cellular jail. It's a very small park with some statues of the freedom fighters which are very fine statues - very nicely done. Small amount of green space but a few seats to sit down.

The Children's Traffic Park is a fun place for children to play. It has a variety of rides and attractions, making it the perfect spot for a family outing.
Visited this place with my Family in March during Andman Tour. Children’s Traffic Park is situated near Marina Park. The setup is such that the park resembles a miniature street replete with roads, traffic lights, speed breakers & traffic police. The idea behind this park is to help children understand and appreciate traffic rules & teach them how to conduct themselves when in traffic. One may find families strolling in the park and teaching their kids to cycle in the evening. Brightly painted & structured, the park symbolizes the importance of fun in learning. The kids are allowed to borrow bicycles and tricycles for free from 5 pm to 8 pm. In this park while the adults can relax in peace, the younger ones can pick up a physical activity, enjoy the fresh air and learn traffic rules in safety. If you are in Marina Park, this is worth a walk! Within the water sports Complex and Aberdeen jetty compound, is the children’s traffic park. About 2kms from the city centre, the park lies to the right of the water sports complex entrance. You can easily reach here by catching a taxi (Pre-book from the hotel) or auto (Tuk-Tuk). 2-wheelers are also available for daily rentals, which is a convenient way to travel around the city.

This place is close to the Carbyn’s Cove Beach. It’s a good place to have the evening or morning walk. If you’re coming to Port Blair for the first time and visiting during December or January, keep in mind that sunsets happen at around 430pm to 5pm. So it gets dark really soon.

Located near Wandoor in the South Andaman district of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park is a national preserve comprising several islands with coral reefs and turtles. Established in 1983 under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, it was created to safeguard marine life such as corals and nesting sea turtles. Covering an area of 281.
The Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park is a treasure trove of marine biodiversity, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the underwater world. The park features a scenic trail leading to an old jetty, where one can observe a vibrant array of colorful fish and corals in their natural habitat. The water here is exceptionally deep and crystal-clear, with a mesmerizing shade of transparent blue that gives the impression of standing above an open aquarium. Visiting the park in the early morning is highly recommended, as the serene atmosphere and breathtaking views create an unforgettable experience. The tranquil surroundings, combined with the vivid beauty of marine life, make this a must-visit destination for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike. It’s a perfect spot to start your day with a sense of wonder and awe.

Marine Interpretation Centre – Wandoor (Marine National Park, Andamans) Marvelous. Mesmerizing. Magnificent. Three words that define my experience at the Marine National Park’s Interpretation Centre, Wandoor. From the moment you step inside, you are transported into a world where the ocean speaks and the exhibits narrate tales of marine life. The lifelike models of Dugong (Sea Cow), Saltwater Crocodile, Marine Turtles, and Mangroves are so meticulously curated that they don’t just inform, they INSPIRE. 👉 The Dugong model, Andaman’s state animal, is a showstopper. A rare species presented with remarkable attention to detail. 👉 The Saltwater Crocodile section recreates the mangrove swamp atmosphere perfectly — you feel the wilderness, the raw danger. 👉 The Marine Turtle display with its underwater diorama is breathtaking. You don’t just see it; you EXPERIENCE the marine depth. 👉 Add to it, the information panels — crisp, insightful, and layered with facts about marine ecosystems, conservation efforts, and India’s protected marine zones. The wooden architecture of the centre, the serene surroundings, and the well-planned flow of exhibits create a cinematic rhythm, just like a well-edited film. Each section feels like a new scene, keeping the audience (visitors) hooked till the very last frame. Verdict: Marine Interpretation Centre, Wandoor is not just a museum. It’s an immersive experience, a blockbuster for nature lovers. Educational, engaging, and entertaining. Truly, a must-visit if you want to understand the soul of Andaman’s marine biodiversity. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – A perfect family entertainer for explorers, students, and travelers alike.

New Beginnings at a Beautiful Viewpoint – Pongi Balu Entrance Gate If you're planning a trip to the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park and are exploring the less-touched corners of Andaman, Pongi Balu is a hidden gem that deserves a stop. What was once an open and relatively unknown access point has now been officially developed by the government — complete with a proper entrance gate and nominal entry charges, which is a great step toward protecting and managing the rich biodiversity in this area. 📍 Location & Accessibility Situated just a short ride off the main road, the Pongi Balu gate marks the entry into a peaceful, scenic part of the Marine National Park. Though the trail is still quite raw and unpaved, it’s accessible by two-wheelers — but do ride cautiously, especially after rain. Expect a slightly bumpy but adventurous path that leads you right into nature’s lap. 💸 Entry Fees The entry charges are very reasonable — somewhere in the ₹50–₹70 range per person (within 100), and yes, there’s an extra charge for vehicles, including bikes. But the price is worth every rupee for the experience that awaits. 🌊 Scenic Views & Islands Once inside, you'll find yourself surrounded by serene greenery and open views of the sea. The spot offers a picturesque viewpoint of Jolly Buoy Island, and on a clear day, you might even catch glimpses of nearby islands like Red Skin. It’s an ideal location for those looking to enjoy natural beauty, click some memorable photos, or simply sit and soak in the tranquility. 🧭 Why Visit? Great offbeat destination in Andaman Perfect for photography and nature lovers Now with government-managed entry, adding to safety and structure Less crowded than mainstream tourist spots 🔔 Pro Tips: Carry water and snacks as there are no shops inside, but do not litter. Wear shoes suitable for light trekking if you plan to explore around. Go during early morning or late afternoon for the best light and cooler weather. In summary, the newly introduced gate at Pongi Balu is not just a checkpost; it’s the beginning of a calm and rewarding journey into one of the more underrated parts of the Marine National Park. Whether you’re a local explorer or a first-time visitor to the Andamans, this place offers a refreshing dose of natural beauty, far from the crowds. 🌿 A small fee for a big view — totally worth it!

Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park is a stunning marine sanctuary located in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, near Wandoor, about 29 km from Port Blair. Established in 1983, the park spans around 281.5 square kilometers and consists of 15 islands and several coral reefs. Its primary goal is to protect the rich marine biodiversity, including coral reefs, mangroves, and a variety of marine creatures. Key Attractions 1. Coral Reefs and Marine Life: The park is home to vibrant coral reefs, sea anemones, and various marine species like starfish, sea cucumbers, and mollusks. Visitors can also spot turtles, dugongs (sea cows), and occasionally dolphins. 2. Snorkeling and Scuba Diving: The park offers excellent opportunities for snorkeling and diving, allowing visitors to explore the reefs and encounter exotic marine life up close. Jolly Buoy and Red Skin Islands are the most famous destinations for underwater activities. 3. Glass-Bottom Boat Rides: For those who prefer not to dive, glass-bottom boat rides offer a glimpse of the vibrant underwater ecosystem. 4. Island Excursions: Many of the islands within the park, such as Jolly Buoy Island, offer serene beaches and crystal-clear waters, perfect for picnics and relaxation. Conservation Efforts The park enforces strict rules to maintain the ecological balance, such as a ban on plastic and limited visitor access to islands like Jolly Buoy and Red Skin, which are alternately opened to the public. Fishing and extraction of coral are prohibited to protect marine life. Best Time to Visit The best time to visit is October to May, when the weather is favorable, and underwater visibility is excellent for snorkeling and diving. Monsoons (June to September) are avoided due to heavy rainfall and rough seas. This national park offers an extraordinary chance to witness the natural beauty of the Andaman Islands, both above and below the water, making it a must-visit for travelers and nature enthusiasts.

The rates are exorbitant vis-a-vis the experience / facilities offered (INR 1800 per head for 3 hours). The glass-bottomed boat ride which enabled glimpses of underwater coral formations and marine life was offered at a fee of another INR 1500 per head per hour. Shameless fleecing of tourists was obvious. If this was being done to indigenous tourists, one can only guess the plight of foreigners! in addition, the Forest Department charges INR 75 per head for permits. Notwithstanding the let-downs, Red Skin Island was worth the visit.

Mount Manipur National Park is a serene and forested national park that offers popular opportunities for photography, wildlife viewing, and butterfly spotting. The park also provides the chance for trekking from Mount Harriet, the third highest peak in the archipelago, to Madhuban through Kala Patthar. This trekking path takes visitors through rough stretches of forests that are home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, offering a unique experience beyond the region's famous beaches.
Highest point in South Andaman Island. Strategically an important place during World war 2. It had the 360° Anti-Aircraft Gun, originally built by the British, but used by the Japanese in WW2. From Mount Harriet top we can see the North Bay, Emerald view point and more. Harriet National Park was recently renamed into Manipur National Park by the Union Government. It has various rare species of birds and reptiles along with varieties of tree species. Trekking is there, but leeches are there too... So plan accordingly. Mt. Manipur, great view of northbay as it's printed on old 20rs note(the reddish orange one). There is a other view of northby on other side and place to sit , I recommend sitti g there in silence for a while and listen to the sounds around. The wind calms the mind. There is also a trek of 2.5 kms named kalapathar, in monsoon it's full of leeches but otherwise on a clear sky with sun during winters or summer the leeches won't be problem. The place also have forest rest houses and under construction cottages that one can rent if you want to stay in a serene , quiet place on top of hill with a view of the entire ocean.
