Nestled in the heart of Bandar Seri Begawan, the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque stands as a breathtaking testament to Brunei's Islamic heritage and architectural prowess. Completed in 1958, this grand mosque is named after the nation's 28th Sultan and reflects his vision for modernization during his reign. Its striking design combines Mughal and Italian influences, highlighted by a magnificent golden dome that rises majestically above lush gardens and an artificial lagoon.
Stunning mosque in a gorgeous space. Whether by day or night, Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque shines like a jewel. No fee to visit. The interior is equally beautiful. Visitors with bare head, exposed appendages are offered a robe to wear while visiting. Shoes need to be removed before stepping up from the steps. Before entering. All staff members are friendly and helpful.

A must-visit landmark in Bandar Seri Begawan. The golden dome of the mosque is stunning, especially during sunset when it reflects beautifully over the water. The surroundings are peaceful, and the architecture is both grand and elegant. Non-Muslims can enter during designated hours, but make sure to follow the dress code. It's free to visit and definitely worth stopping by if you're in Brunei. One of the most iconic spots in the country.
Ryan K — Google review
The capital city of Brunei, where silence is golden, much like the domes. A place so clean and orderly, you’ll feel guilty for chewing gum too loudly. Everything looks polished, peaceful, and possibly watched by a CCTV operated by someone in royal attire. Expect gleaming mosques, air-conditioned museums, and entire streets where the loudest noise is your own flip-flops. Locals are warm, roads are wide, and traffic is so calm it feels rehearsed. There’s oil money somewhere underfoot, but above ground, it’s all modest smiles and slow living. Come for the iconic Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, stay for the surreal calm and leave wondering if you accidentally trespassed into a billionaire’s backyard that also happens to be a country. Home to one of the world’s richest reigning monarchs, the Sultan of Brunei, whose palace has over 1,700 rooms, and that’s just the official count. You won’t see him, but you’ll definitely feel the royal footprint in every perfectly trimmed hedge and overachieving fountain. A surreal blend of wealth, calm, and quiet confidence..like a luxury car that never honks. Oh ya.. there’s an actual road called Jalan Pretty. Not sure if it’s a compliment, a trap, or just a passive-aggressive reminder to moisturize.
The G — Google review
This place is within walking distance from the Regalia museum, we came right after the museum. We were wearing shorts at that time which is not allowed when entering the mosque but the staff lent us a robe so we can enter. We were only allowed to walk around a small area of the mosque but we still get to enjoy the air-con and see the interiors of the mosque. I think we are only allowed to walk around small area is because there are locals coming to pray while tourists are visiting. It's shame that we left the area the mosque after leaving the interior, as there are actually some outside area that we can explore. Visited on 19 May 2025

Specialty Museums
The Royal Regalia Museum, located in Bandar Seri Begawan, is a golden-domed landmark showcasing the opulent royal life of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. Formerly known as Churchills Memorial Building, it features exhibits such as replicas of the Brunei royal throne, crown, chariot, and ceremonial garments. Visitors can also witness a mock-up of the Sultan's coronation and view extravagant gifts from world leaders on display.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5-Star Review – Royal Regalia Museum, Brunei The Royal Regalia Museum is truly a must-visit when in Brunei. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a grand showcase of royal heritage that feels both majestic and meaningful. The displays are extensive, well-curated, and beautifully maintained—each section tells a clear story of Brunei’s monarchy, traditions, and national identity. The highlight is definitely the impressive collection of royal garments, ceremonial items, and gifts from world leaders. Everything is presented with great detail, making it worth every dollar spent. The layout is easy to follow, and the air-conditioned environment makes the experience comfortable and enjoyable. If you’re exploring Bandar Seri Begawan, this museum should be at the top of your list. A rich and fascinating experience that leaves you appreciating the history and elegance of Brunei’s royal legacy. Highly recommended!
Zainal M — Google review
Many men have man caves, though not this opulent. In this museum, you learn a little about the history of Brunei, and the Sultan. Not much is shared about remaining family members. In this museum, you will see lots of glitter, gold that’s part of the lives of the royal family, along with gifts and swags given to the Sultan from rich and powerful connections. And it may cross your mind that those are not really gifts that one would want to put in their homes. So if you rule a country, have unlimited resources, have more money than you need for many lifetimes, you too may build something to house all of that. It’s interesting to see what world leaders gift each other. Definitely ranges from interesting, thoughtful to what?? 🤔 There is a fee to enter. Bags need to be placed in lockers. No outside shoes permitted. It’s not a huge museum, though not small either. Plan for at least 1-2 hours to take in everything.
Winnie T — Google review
It is a museum that contains the gifts and ceremonial items belonging to the Sultan of Brunei. The place tells a lot about the life of the Sultan from his youth to his time as Sultan. He is still alive now and has been ruling for more than 60 years. There are many items commemorating his 60 years of rule around the museum so it left quite an impression. The items displayed here all looked really unique and pretty. Definitely worth the $5 to enter and visit the place. Visitors are can use non-smartphone cameras (action camera, mirrorless) in the area where the chariot is displayed but inside you can only use smartphones as they will tell you to store your stuff in a locker before entering the main route. 굳이라는 생각이 든다. The Royal Regalia Museum is a must-visit spot in Bandar Seri Begawan for anyone interested in Brunei’s monarchy and cultural heritage. The building itself is grand and well-maintained, and the exhibits are impressive — from royal chariots and ceremonial weaponry to gifts from other nations. The museum offers a unique glimpse into the life and traditions of the Sultanate, with well-preserved items and detailed explanations. Best of all, it’s free to enter. Make sure to store your bags at the entrance, as photography isn’t allowed inside. A quiet and educational stop that adds depth to your understanding of Brunei.
Ryan K — Google review
We all friends visted this Royal museum at Pusat Bandar, entrance fees is $5 brunei dollar per person, you can see lot of photos, so ,many things which Royal Sultan of Brunei used from his earlier age to now, so many gifts presented by various peoples, and it has descriped how the the Kingdom is live his life, his wifes and his ministry and the people of Brunei Darussalam. How he kind with his people and how he administrate this country. It is worth to visit.

We, from Cambodia 🇰🇭 have visited Royal Regalia Museum during our holiday. It is so quiet and peaceful to visit. It’s proud to see a memorial gift from our country that has presented at the Royal Brunei 🇧🇳 Museum 🙏
Kim D — Google review
A collection of items gifted to the Sultan of Brunei who is either a man loved by the people or loved by himself — a distinction that is hard to tell. The line between honorific and self-indulgent feels blurred here. But, there are plenty of beautiful items on display. A pleasant, if not slightly dull, way to pass an hour in Brunei.
Joel B — Google review
A museum that shows the coronation and life of the Sultan. It was impressive at first but slowly made me feel like I’m just looking at gifts that he got all over the world but had no space in his home. The staff wasn’t particularly welcoming and quite choppy. Only words I got from them are “write here” and “five ringgit”.

It stands as the world's largest residential palace, surpassing even the Vatican in size. Completed in January 1984 at a staggering cost of $350 million, this grand palace boasts gold-domed minarets and covers two million square feet.
It’s Brunei Sultan’s residence and tourists can only enter it during Raya, when there is an open house organised. It’s a huge place though with beautiful gardens. Spend around 5-7 minutes here

Nestled in the heart of Bandar Seri Begawan, the Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque is a breathtaking example of modern Islamic architecture and a significant cultural landmark in Brunei. Inaugurated in 1994 to celebrate Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's 25th year on the throne, this magnificent mosque features an impressive array of 29 golden domes that symbolize his status as the 29th Sultan.
One of the most beautiful mosques I’ve ever visited. The golden domes and detailed architecture are absolutely breathtaking. The surrounding gardens are well maintained and add to the peaceful atmosphere. It's especially stunning during sunset. Visitors are welcome outside of prayer hours, but make sure to dress modestly. A must-visit when you're in Brunei!
Ryan K — Google review
I visited on a Sunday at 9am and was glad to find it not too crowded. Do check the visiting hours in advance. The mosque is truly one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen—its architecture is simply stunning. The surrounding garden and fountains make it a perfect spot for photos. This is definitely a must-visit when in Brunei. Just remember to dress appropriately and be respectful during your visit.
Roel A — Google review
They say the dome of this mosque is made with 25% gold, and it really shows in its beauty. What I love is that even non-Muslims or visitors who aren’t dressed modestly can still enter by wearing a robe provided here. The unique design makes every corner feel grand and luxurious honestly, it’s the kind of place where you can’t resist snapping a photo.
Zaim S — Google review
One of the largest mosques in Brunei, with gold leaf on the top of the minaret. The inside is very beautiful. The guards here still maintain the solemnity and are very friendly to tourists. Free entrance fee, about 1 hour to visit here. If you come here and your clothes are not suitable, you will be able to borrow a robe for free to visit.
Anh T — Google review
First top for most tourist. Plenty of photos opportunities. We felt welcomed at the entrance especially if you can speak Malay/from Malaysia. Very picturesque place.... No entrance fees. A good place to stop by. Pls make sure you check the time for praying as they will closed during that time. If I'm not mistaken, mosque will closed from 1130am to 230pm for non Muslims.
CP G — Google review
Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah summoned John Lawson to the country's capital, in the early 1990s after being inspired by the Englishman's work. Lawson was asked to design the glass dome for a new mosque that would be constructed to honour the Silver Jubilee of Hassanal Bolkiah. Although it was first officially called the Kiarong Mosque, it would go on to be renamed as Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque.
Asif C — Google review
Beautiful mosque, interesting and unique architecture, outside prayer times is not crowded and is a perfect spot for nice instagram pictures. Free to visit, free parking.

Tasek Lama Recreational Park, located just a short distance from Bandar Seri Begawan, offers a perfect escape into nature. The park features marked trails of varying difficulty levels that lead to picturesque waterfalls and provide opportunities to spot diverse birdlife and wildlife, including monkeys. It is known for its tranquil ambiance and scenic landscapes, making it an ideal retreat from the urban bustle.
Tasek Lama Recreational Park is an absolutely wonderful place for anyone looking to relax, unwind, or enjoy some outdoor activities. It’s perfect for a peaceful escape from a busy lifestyle. Whether you want to walk, hike, or simply enjoy nature, this park has something for everyone. For hikers, there are several trails that vary in difficulty, offering a great way to explore the natural beauty of Brunei. The trails lead through lush greenery, and for those looking for a challenge, some of them can be a bit steep—but definitely worth it for the views and sense of accomplishment. One of the highlights is the beautiful waterfall, which you can find while hiking through the park. The sound of the cascading water adds to the peaceful atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for relaxation or a quick nature break. If you're into birdwatching, this park is also a great place to spot various species, thanks to its rich, natural environment. And best of all, the entrance is totally free—a rare gem that offers such a peaceful experience without any cost. I highly recommend Tasek Lama for those who want to disconnect, get some fresh air, and enjoy the tranquility of nature. It's a perfect spot to recharge, whether you're a hiker or simply looking for a serene place to unwind.
Prasad R — Google review
Foreigners who are nature lovers and have 90 minutes to spare in Bandar Seri Begawan should definitely visit this place. Upon entering, start by visiting the Tasek Wooden Tower, which can be reached by following the Tasek Twin Stairs. The trail might be slightly rough and challenging, but the effort is good for your body. There's not much up there except for the wooden platform, but it offers a nice view. There are two trails leading to other mountains, but they are a few kilometers further. Afterward, you can retrace your steps and head toward the water reservoir. At the Tasek Reservoir, you’ll find a tall Tasek Tower that you can climb. The trail to the tower features various species of pitcher plants, including very tiny and big ones. Next, visit the Tasek Lama Waterfall. Lastly, take some time to relax in the recreational park. There are also monkeys here having their best time of their lives
Felix V — Google review
Wonderful place to hike - suitable for those who want cemented or dirt ground, and flat/incline/stairs/rough terrain. A few things are in disrepair, like the playground. Trees provide enough shade for hot days. FYI you can go either side of the dam gate for more hiking paths. Lots of parking space.
GM — Google review
Great little place for hiking. Extremely unstable trails if you go off the more well worn ones, so a positive if you’re experienced as you can control your difficulty level well. Con is that there are no markings, so you can only really learn routes by experience / GPS and the topography data won’t be enough for you to really gauge what you’re putting yourself up against until you hit it.
Mike E — Google review
It’s a nice place to go for a walk. Locals use it mostly for jogging and exercising. It’s very hot in the afternoon though, so better to vome in the morning or late afternoon. There is a beautiful waterfall here, but the deck doesn’t look safe anymore. Some parts are closed off already. There is a public toilet in the park
Dean D — Google review
A clean and tranquil park near the city. It's just maybe a 25 mins walk from the city center (i walk really fast though). There's a tower for viewing but most sides of the views are obstructed by tree branch. Maybe the tower is not tall enough. There's also a trail for those who wants to do a bit of hiking. Although being with local guide is a must as there's not a lot of waypoint at the trail. I even have to turn back after 5/6 way reaching sarang elang because idk why there's no more waypoint. Anyway, i gave 4 star because it's not a "must visit" place for tourists. If i stay at BSB i'll definitely rate it a 5 because i'll most likely will do a lot of workout there. Running, jogging and uphill running.
Yuwanda K — Google review
Lots of trails to hike or cycle, and play areas for kids. Some of the walking trails are steep and slippery, so wear decent walking boots if you decide to venture up into the woodland.
James C — Google review
It’s a beautiful place for hikes with great nature and a waterfall. You can choose your trail from the different options and even if some of them could be a little bit improved in terms of maintenance. There is a kids playground around there too, monkeys jumping around and a free parking.

It offers a wide variety of street food, produce, and drinks from different Asian cuisines. The market is popular among locals and visitors alike who are looking for an authentic culinary experience at affordable prices.

Pasar Pelbagai Barangan Gadong (Gadong Night Market) is a lively and authentic night market in Brunei, perfect for trying local street food. The variety is impressive — from grilled skewers and satay to banana fritters and colorful traditional sweets. Prices are very affordable, and the atmosphere is vibrant with locals and tourists alike. It's mostly cash only, so make sure to bring some bills. I just wish it had a bit more seating space to enjoy the food comfortably. Still, definitely worth a visit for a real taste of Brunei!
Ryan K — Google review
The area is split into 2 sections, the outdoor with small circular kiosks and the "market" with long aisles that occupy one of the warehouse like building. I prefer the market one as it's more traditional while the outdoor are more like cafes style. I think about 20-25% of the space are without tenant. Now to the food, mostly are good especially the ones with lots of customer. Tried the keropok lekor from dapur aisyah is better. The 1$ huge drink which i only can finish 1/2 of it. Bought another nasi katok and top it with rendang and bitter gourd. Wanted to buy jengkol but remember i stayed at a hotel. Great place to get local food. The closer it is to dinner time the more crowded the market is. (It peaked around 18.00-19.00)
Yuwanda K — Google review
A market offering a wide selection of affordable and clean food and drinks. We tried the nasi katok kambing (B$3) which was tasty along with banana fritters (B$1), fried spring rolls (B$1) and unsweetened watermelon juice (B$1). The place is well maintained with wash basins available for handwashing.

There are 2 main rows of food at night. One row is more happening with ready to eat food while the another row is more quiet which mainly sells fruits. I enjoyed their grilled mackerel from stall 7. Very meaty, fresh and inexpensive;))) Kueh was decent but I enjoyed the fish alot more. What's also very notable is there is alot of fried items and alot of nasi katok

The Malay Technology Museum, also known as Muzium Teknologi Melayu locally, is a top attraction in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. It was opened in 1988 and showcases the history of Malay culture and way of life in Brunei. The museum features exhibits depicting the traditional technology employed by Kampong Ayer residents, including architecture, handicrafts, boatmaking, and silversmithing.
The Malay Technology Museum is an excellent spot to learn about the fascinating history of Brunei and its traditional industries, with a special focus on the Water Village (Kampung Air). This museum offers an in-depth look at how Brunei’s people have lived and worked, particularly in relation to their connection with water and the development of local industries. The exhibits showcase a variety of traditional tools, crafts, and technologies that were used by the people of Brunei, reflecting the resourcefulness of those living in the water village. You’ll find fascinating displays about boat building, fishing techniques, agriculture, and other industries that were crucial to Brunei’s historical development. The museum provides a deep dive into the lifestyle and culture of the Malay people in Brunei, showing how these industries helped shape the country. The interactive exhibits and informative displays make it easy to understand the historical context of each piece. The museum itself is well-maintained and easy to navigate, offering a peaceful and educational experience. The museum is about Malay Culture and how they used to live in previous days. The museum is well maintained and there are always staff nearby to help you out if you need any assistance. One of the recommended museums that the tourists can drop by whenever they come to Brunei.

Worth visiting. An informative museum. The staffs are nice and helpful. Lockers are provided before entering the galleries. Galleries full of dioramas about the the malay way of life, living on stilts, different industries and livelihoods adapted on the swamps. A good itenerary for a day trip that includes the nearby museums, archaeological sites and grave sites of the former sultans. A trail nearby would lead to the ruins and excavations inside the forested area. The same area as the maritime museum.

Yet another great museum in Brunei's little museum complex. As with the others, admission is free. Although I believe you aren't supposed to take photos here - as is the case with seemingly every museum in Brunei - they didn't seem to strict about that, and with the beautiful exhibits of Kampong Ayer and the other less-developed parts of Brunei, you will definitely want to snap a couple photos!

Kianggeh Market, located in Bandar Seri Begawan, is a bustling open-air street market offering a wide range of local produce, seafood, meat, and traditional dishes. This roofed street market showcases Brunei's distinguished goods and traditional hand-woven handicrafts. Visitors can immerse themselves in the lively culture of the country by exploring the vibrant market close to the Brunei River.
Nice local market for finding local snacks, soto daging (beef noodles for B$1), vegetables, fruits and alot more. I arrived at 11:30 and not all stores were already open. The soto daging tasted fine but not very filling.
Ced A — Google review
Tamu Kianggeh is a vibrant local market offering a wide variety of products at reasonable prices. You’ll find fresh fruits, vegetables, and traditional Malay kuih muih, along with food stalls selling fritters, drinks, fried snacks and many more. The market is clean, tidy and also budget-friendly, making it a popular spot for locals, especially during the weekends. It tends to get crowded in the mornings especially on Friday ans Sunday, so arriving early is recommended as many vendors close before noon. Although there is paid parking available, the convenience of the market's layout and its bustling atmosphere make it worth a visit for anyone looking to experience local flavors and culture.
Zaidatul G — Google review
As someone from another SEA country, the market seems to be lack of people. It's modern wet market that means it's clean and comfortable. It sells mostly farm produce but some are selling traditional snacks (when i visited there maybe 2-3 stalls selling traditional snacks, 2-3 stall selling modern snack and drinks. A coconut water stall. The rest are the produce stalls.
Yuwanda K — Google review
The Kianggeh market is the place to go for your local needs, and especially the rare culturally relevant items You can buy locally grown fruits and vegetables for a price that's not too different from the supermarkets There are also handcrafted local items that are hard to get elsewhere There're many local food and drinks available in the stalls This market is usually fairly sparse during weekdays but on the weekends, especially Friday, this place gets very full to the point that traffic starts to back up all the way outside The place is also very sheltered from the weather, no matter if it's hot or rainy
Astrogeosics — Google review
Maybe because I went at about noon time on a Thursday, I find that the market looks pathetic with just the vegetables stalls opened plus a few food stores. No meat or fish stalls opened, if they can be found here. Wonder how/where does the locals get their meat. Went on Friday morning and more stalls have opened, including fish and chicken stalls.

Small local market with some produce and snacks. It’s located close to the mosque and waterfront, so it’s an easy stop if you’re in the area. That said, it’s nothing special at all, any neighborhood market in other Southeast Asian countries is more vibrant and interesting. Worth a quick look if you’re passing by, but not a must-see. You can walk around the whole market in a few minutes.

It’s a local market with different areas for dry goods, wet goods and food.

The Brunei Darussalam Maritime Museum, located in Bandar Seri Begawan, is a tribute to the country's maritime legacy. It offers a glimpse into Brunei's seafaring traditions and accomplishments, highlighting the sea's influence on its culture, trade, and regional connections. The museum features well-curated exhibits showcasing artifacts and a shipwreck display that provides valuable insights into Brunei's naval history.
The Brunei Darussalam Maritime Museum is a fantastic place for anyone interested in the maritime history of Brunei. It’s especially intriguing for those who are curious about shipwrecks and underwater archaeology. One of the main highlights is the exhibit dedicated to the specific shipwreck that was discovered off the coast of Brunei. The museum does an excellent job of explaining the entire recovery mission, from the initial discovery to the detailed process of excavation and preservation. The exhibits are well-organized, and you get to see artifacts recovered from the wreckage, including antique ceramics and other historical maritime treasures. The museum also provides great insight into the role of Brunei in maritime trade, as well as the historical significance of these discoveries. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the interactive displays help bring the story of the wreckage recovery to life. It’s a great place to learn not just about the shipwreck, but also about the broader maritime heritage of Brunei and the region. Highly recommend visiting for history enthusiasts, those interested in archaeology, or anyone curious about Brunei’s maritime past. It’s a fascinating and educational experience!

Learn how important of Brunei area as a commercial sea trade hub in the past, The exhibition consists of 3 galleries and one observatory windows. it's very interesting and enjoyable about storytelling with real experience to walk up on deck of trade ship. old china(pottery) are displayed in the galleries from China mainland, Ayutthaya/sukothai porcelain and even Vietnamese ones. there are real life varieties of boat models, used in this area. there is also temporary exhibition about ancient beads, accessories found in this area too.

This museum shared knowledge about how the maritime helped to bring different goods from the world to and fro Brunei. However, there is no gift shop for me to purchase some related items. They also provided free locker for visitors to store our bags. I spent about 50mins reading closely about 90% of the exhibitions.

Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah is a multifaceted complex that serves as both a foundation and an upscale shopping destination. Established by His Majesty the Sultan, it aims to generate revenue for the welfare of the Bruneian people. The complex features the anchor tenant Hua Ho Department Store, surrounded by numerous stores offering a wide range of branded and non-branded goods, along with restaurants and cyber cafes.
Worth visiting. A good escape for the mid day heat. Has a department store, supermarket, and a jollibee. Nice area to buy gold. A place to buy all the necessities. The supermarket and food court is located at the basement. Beautiful mall. A modern take to vernacular malay architecture. Good location, in good proximity to the major tourist attraction of the city. Featured at the back of 1 Brunei Dollar

Pretty small and basic mall. The souvenir shop sells the best designed souvenirs around if you're looking for some. The air conditioning is very cold inside.
Yuhng Y — Google review
In my own opinion. There are quite a lot of tenants and some branded store, but its kind an outdated building, and there is no connecting between 4th main building. You can buy some Brunei's souvenirs here before you go back to your hometown. There is open space in the center of the mall and brunei river view in front of the building.

The Kampong Ayer Cultural & Tourism Gallery, also known as the Venice of the East, is a waterfront building in Brunei Darussalam's Bandar Seri Begawan. It was inaugurated in 2009 and showcases the history, traditions, society, and arts of the water village. The gallery features antique handicrafts and relics from the early settlement years. Additionally, it periodically hosts temporary art exhibitions.
Should not miss when you’re in Kampong Ayer. The most surprising little museum with the most friendly & helpful staff. The young man was more than delighted to educate me on the history of Kampong Ayer, past, present & future. He also was able to give me local tips & suggestions. Only found this place while walking the village walkways one morning & so glad I did. You can support by purchasing from their gift store, cash only. Absolutely recommend visiting, 1 hour. After, a boatman will pick you up from the nearest jetty & a great way to set up with your driver for a Proboscis monkey river cruise!

I didn’t visit any of the houses except the cultural building which had a good amount of information and history about this place. Explored around on our own, said hi to some residents who were friendly, and then took a boat ride around. Tip : wear proper shoes as the wooden boards are uneven and rickety.

Kampong Ayer is the name for a water village in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. The name means “Water Village” (Malay Kampung Air) and the settlement actually consists of a collection of traditional stilt-dwelling settlements over the Brunei River. They are located in close proximity to today's Pusat Bandar (Bandar Seri Begawan city center). Kampong Ayer is often referred to as one of the “Venice of the East.”

Iconic Landmark in Bandar Seri Begawan When we entered Brunei, we were asked by the immigration officer, why do we come to Brunei? There is not much to do (i.e. modern ways of entertainment) here! The BIBD Frame is one beautiful things worth seeing while in Bandar Seri Begawan, together with the park in which it is located and the waterfront. We found the frame, when looked trough with the right angle, provides a stunning view of the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, which is THE landmark of Bandar Seri Begawan and of Brunei. The park is very nice, very clean and very neat. It is an ideal place to have a walk in the afternoon and to unwind. Plus, the river provides a nice breeze to cool down. Ash Shaliheen Mosque, situated in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, is a stunning place of worship that harmoniously combines traditional Islamic architectural features with modern design. The mosque's exterior showcases a unique blend of domes and minarets adorned with intricate calligraphy and ornate details. This significant religious and cultural landmark offers a tranquil setting for prayer and contemplation.
Happy to join ifthar together in this mosque. There are plenty of foods here. Alot people coming here every day and night. Free foods and beverages for visitors during Ramadan (iftar time). Also, in the last ten days of Ramadan, there will be iktikaf. Mosque provides foods for sahar. Baarokalloh baarokalloh... Another thing I love so much is that there's Green space inside the mosque, and special room for praying for those who bring children.

Brunei International Airport, also known as Bandar Seri Begawan International Airport, is the primary international airport in Brunei. Situated just a short distance from downtown Bandar Seri Begawan, it offers convenient access to the city center. The airport features streamlined baggage handling and a variety of dining options including both international and national cuisine. Travelers can easily find transportation from the airport to their accommodations, with options such as ride-hailing apps or public buses available.
Super clean and well-designed airport! The security screening machines are honestly the most high-tech I’ve ever seen — super fast and smooth. A Seamless and Luxurious Experience at Brunei International Airport I recently had the pleasure of passing through Brunei International Airport, and I must say, it truly stands out as one of the best airports I've ever been to. From the moment I stepped foot inside, I was impressed by the cleanliness and modern facilities. The airport is well-maintained, with spacious areas that make navigation easy and comfortable. The staff at Brunei International Airport are incredibly professional and friendly. The check-in process was smooth and efficient, with helpful staff available to assist with any queries. Immigration was also a breeze, with courteous officers processing passengers quickly and effectively. One of the highlights of my experience was the airport's facilities. The lounges are luxurious, offering a range of amenities, including comfortable seating, complimentary food and drinks, day rooms, and shower facilities. The views of the runway are stunning, making it a great spot to relax before your flight. The shopping options at Brunei International Airport are diverse and cater to a range of tastes. From local handicrafts to international brands, there's something for everyone. I particularly enjoyed browsing the souvenir shops, which offered a glimpse into Brunei's rich culture and heritage. The airport's dining options are also worth mentioning. There's a variety of restaurants and cafes serving both local and international cuisine. I opted for a traditional Bruneian meal, which was delicious and satisfying. Overall, Brunei International Airport is a testament to the country's commitment to excellence and hospitality. Whether you're a seasoned traveler or just passing through, this airport is sure to leave a lasting impression. With its modern facilities, friendly staff, and luxurious amenities, it's a great place to start or end your journey. A few trips: - Arrive early to take advantage of the airport's facilities and shops. - Be sure to try some of the local cuisine at one of the airport's restaurants. - Take a stroll around the airport to discover all its places, seating areas, lounges, restaurants and souvenir shops. - Don't miss the opportunity to shop for local handicrafts and souvenirs. I would highly recommend Brunei International Airport to anyone traveling through the region. Its exceptional service, modern facilities, and luxurious amenities make it a standout destination in the world of air travel.

Very small intl airport. No free wifi. Has a starbuck and a local coffee shop. Few vending machines. No free wifi is a big issue here especially being intl airport. Bathroom has shower. Seats are ok, can’t lying down tho. If u have a long waiting time, consider buy their lounge. Small lounge. Limited foods option and drink. No alcohol. Seat are ok. Has shower area but need to fix draining as it clogged. Has wifi. Nothing special about their lounge. Only worth the price if u have a long waiting time. It is a hub for RB airline. If it wasn’t bcos they often run special promo on airfare, I wouldnt consider them. Tho their planes are quite decent. Feel like legroom in economy is larger than bigger airline.
Kit V — Google review
Before we arrived it appeared that the airport's shops and restaurants close around 5pm daily. That isn't the case as some of the shops close at 11.30pm. it depends on what flights are going out and if there are people around. So if you are in transit as we were (arrived at 6pm and flying out at midnight), there will be shops open (convenience store and one or two cafes open until 11.30pm). There are also vending machines available for drinks and meals (and a couple of microwaves to heat up the food they sell there). There are at least two water stations which provide hot and cold water for free but they are filtered water stations which are a little slow because the filters are slow. There were times when you would not have any water because the dispensers are filtering it (100ml in 3-4 mins - yes that is correct). The convenience store has noodles in cups and will add hot water for free if you buy their range of noodles (about B$4 each). They accept Singapore dollars at a 1 for 1 exchange or there is an Exchange outlet open till late. The vending machines have note slots (refunds are in coins) and credit card tap facilities. The microwaves work on the food barcode which is on the pack and automatically heats the food depending on the barcode (generally about 2.20 mins). If it isn't hot enough, you can rescan the barcode and get another 2.20). You can always stop the microwave. The meals are B$6 (use B$1 and B$5 notes which you can exchange Singaporean money for at the convenience store. The other set of vending machines have hot drinks of coffee, chocolate and tea available. Soft drink cans are about B$1 each. There are free charging stations (3 outlets near gate 5A (which is apart from gate 5) together with some nice tables and chairs to sit. There are food and drink vending machines and water dispensers at the Gate 5A area. Brunei uses the same adapter power convention as Malaysia (3 prong with two rectangular top prongs and a vertical rectangular one below). 220-240 volts.

The Mall Gadong, also known as The Mall, is a prominent shopping center in Bandar Seri Begawan. While it may not be as extravagant as malls in Dubai, it offers a great escape from the midday heat and provides opportunities to find good deals on electronics, souvenirs, and essentials. This unique one million square foot complex features an international hotel, retail shops, a cinema called THE MALL CINEPLEX, and commercial spaces.
This is one of the largest shopping malls in Brunei. The mall was clean and featured a wide variety of shops. There is a food court on the top floor, where I bought a Magnum ice cream—with customizable toppings. The food court also offers a diverse selection of food and beverages. The staff were friendly and helpful.

It loses one star because it doesn't offer free wifi, most malls of this size should offer that for tourists at least. Not a big deal though because Brunei doesn't have free wifi anywhere in the capital, but if you ask there will let you log on. Anyways the mall is interesting as it has a fix of high end stores and bargain stores, a great food court as well. Oh and a movie theater.

The biggest mall in Brunei but frankly, there is nothing much here. There is a souvenir shop located on ground floor, so this can be a place to get your Brunei souvenirs. Otherwise a relatively quiet mall.

Nice place to go shopping. Very near to the place that I'm staying where it is just a walking distance. Have a variety of shops inside. The design of the mall is kind of unique to me. Also the mall is closed on Fridays 12-2pm because of Friday prayers so basically all the doors will be locked. If you're inside the mall you can't go out via the main door. You can only exit through the one and only back door.

Maybe we got a good deal because the sun was getting low already? Anyway, nice and calm boat ride to the monkeys. They were quite easy to spot. We also say a crocodile! On the way back we tour a detour through the floating village. Interesting place for sure!

I was impressed by the amazing structures of bridges, ways and houses here. They give me the sense of peace despite being built on water. The long walk around here at sunset is one of the greatest ideas I have ever had. I just parked the car right in front of the destination and caught a local sailor to drive me to the small residential area with a reasonable price.

We actually wanted to go the Kampong across the river and we thought that the boats parked along this river will bring us there but instead we were talked into a river tour that costs 30 Brunei dollars. The entire experience was not bad as the boat driver explained every single land mark along the ride in English. We went to a mangrove area where there are a lot of moneys. There are also some colorful birds around and crocodile popping their head over shallow waters. The boat ride also brings you around Kampong Ayer, we passed the photo spot that we initially wanted to go and surprisingly there are not much tourist there. I boat ride satisfied our need to visit the village as we got really close to the village and were treated to many nice views along the way as well. I wonder why Kampong Ayer was recommended as a tourist spot, it felt like a residential area to me. Visited on 19 May 2025

Brunei Waterfront is a serene and scenic spot along the Brunei River. It's perfect for a relaxing stroll, especially during sunset when the views of Kampong Ayer across the water are breathtaking. The area is clean and well-maintained, with plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Water taxis are readily available if you want to explore the river or visit the water village. A must-visit when in Bandar Seri Begawan!

Nice view of the river and you can go for a tour on the water with reasonable prices.
HTrinh — Google review
If you are a foreigner, you should not come too close to the river unless you plan to take a water taxi, as boat drivers will pester you with tour offers. You can get on the boat directly if rented from a boat operator. It costs around 20 to 25 Brunei dollars per person. The entire process takes about an hour. It's very interesting. You can see proboscis monkeys.

The Brunei History Centre, located near the Royal Regalia Museum, is a treasure trove of historical documents and genealogical records detailing the origins of the Royal Family. This center is dedicated to researching, collecting, publishing, and exhibiting Brunei's rich history. Visitors can explore elaborate displays of antique cannons, intricate daggers, and a gallery showcasing treasures unearthed from shipwrecks off Brunei's coast.
This never ending building is full of the rich history of Brunei. Completely unexpected & delightfully surprised by the amount of information that was packed into this centre. Almost walked past it while walking to Royal Regalia, but turned around & went inside. Little to no other visitors while I was here. A diverse range of educational material, good for all ages. 2-3 hours to take your time, free entrance. A must for any history buff or visitor to Brunei.
Danielle W — Google review
The museum has pretty much no item exposed, it's just made of panels you have to read (in English as well), sometimes it isn't easy because of the bad light and too many colours. The most interesting room is the one with spices where you can touch and smell them. However it's more interesting than the Royal Regalia, and it's free.

I visited the Brunei History Center recently and had an enriching experience that I couldn't recommend more highly. The center itself is a treasure trove of artifacts and displays that illuminate the rich history and culture of Brunei. However, what truly made my visit unforgettable was the exceptional guidance provided by Mr. Azlan, one of the staff members. Mr. Azlan dedicated nearly two hours to walking me through the exhibits, sharing fascinating stories and insights that brought the history of Brunei to life. His passion for the subject was evident, and his ability to connect historical events to their significance today made the experience all the more engaging. I learned about the sultanate's origins, its cultural heritage, and key figures who shaped its history—knowledge I would have likely missed without his expert narration. The center itself is well-organized, making it easy to follow along with Mr. Azlan's explanations. Each exhibit is thoughtfully curated, and the layout encourages exploration and curiosity. I appreciated how Mr. Azlan tailored his commentary to my level of interest, ensuring I felt involved and intrigued throughout the tour. In a world where history can sometimes feel distant, Mr. Azlan's enthusiasm and depth of knowledge made it feel immediate and relevant. I left the Brunei History Center not only with a deeper understanding of the nation’s past but also with a newfound appreciation for its cultural richness. If you have the chance to visit, I highly recommend seeking out Mr. Azlan for a guided tour. His insights will undoubtedly enhance your experience, as they did mine. Overall, the Brunei History Center is a must-visit for anyone interested in uncovering the stories that have shaped this remarkable country.

You can go here when not doing anything else to get a perspective on history. History emphasizes about 500 years ago and centers on spices and trade. First trading with China and then the arrival of Arabs, Portuguese and others. Also information about separating with the UK and not joining Malaysia. Good if it is raining which is frequent. Free.

Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, also known as the Golden Jubilee Crown Park, is a 12-hectare riverfront park located near the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in Brunei. The park features well-maintained gardens, vibrant flora, and impressive monuments that illuminate at night. Visitors can relax amidst the backdrop of the magnificent mosque and serene Kampong Ayer.
Perfect for night brisk walking or jogging activity. You can go solo, with friends or even your children as there are also other outdoor activities that they can indulge in like buggy rides or simply have some footie fun or bubble creativity at the field. Some iconic buildings are also around the area, so it is really a perfect relaxing calming tourist spot.

The park is located between the river and the mosque. Aside from the river forming a natural barrier, it's fairly open on all other sides. If you're coming from the northeast of the city, you can also enter the park via my favorite route, the "Jambatan Pejalan Kaki Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Bridge." The bridge, with its cool design, offers a great view of the park, the river, and the mosque from its elevated position. During the day, it's almost deserted, but in the evening, it's bustling with people, inviting people to jog and stroll. Absolutely worth seeing! Excellent 🫶🏻

Beautifully-kept park with many plants, trees and flowers and lovely views of the mosque in its entirety – you’ll also find ‘the frame’ which is a famous photo op to capture the mosque through. Hope you don’t arrive when a Japanese or Singaporean bus load of tourists swarm the place – but these are few and far between and they don’t stop too long. The park is sandwiched between the river and the mosque. Apart for the river creating a natural barrier it’s fairly open on all other sides. If you’re coming from the north-east of the city, you can also enter the park in my favourite way – via the bridge (Jambatan Pejalan Kaki Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien). The bridge with its cool design (as you can see on Google Maps), in its elevated position allows you great views of the park, up/down river and the mosque too. There’s a café, car park and public toilets in the park but I didn’t use these. There’s not much shade so take this into account.

A clean, relaxing and peaceful park with picturesque view. It's a good place for family, regardless of age, to chill and unwind. There are dedicated exercise areas meant for people to practice calisthenics and there is also a jogging track. Do practice caution when strolling along the pathway as there are people riding bicycles and tricycles. These small vehicles can be rented from the vendors at the park. There are also food vendors in the vicinity of the park.

Its more lively in in the afternoon though especially towards evening as mobile street foods stalls are set up for the locals and tourists . Located near the mall in Brunei, The Big Wall Brunei is a vibrant and welcoming mural situated on the north side of a tall white building. Designed by Guerilla Artchitects Studio as part of the Jalan Roberts Pedestrian Project, this iconic wall art adds life to the capital. It's a must-see attraction for tourists visiting BSB and is easily accessible for anyone exploring the area.
A Unique Wall Painting We stumbled upon the Big Wall while strolling through Bandar Seri Begawan, and it immediately captured our attention. Located in the city center on a side road, the mural beautifully combines Brunei’s main attractions on the lower part, with intricate Bornean patterns framing the vibrant flora of Brunei on the upper side. The area is clean and well-maintained, with information boards that explain the artwork and its cultural significance in more detail. Kampong Ayer, often dubbed the "Venice of the East," is a captivating water village that showcases a unique way of life on stilts. This historic settlement features thousands of interconnected structures, including homes, schools, and essential services like fire and police stations. Exploring Kampong Ayer by water taxi offers an authentic glimpse into the daily lives of its residents who have thrived here for centuries. Visitors can appreciate sustainability efforts aimed at preserving this remarkable community while also enjoying modern conveniences.
This is the must visit place when you're visiting Brunei. You can use the water taxi to access it from the city center for 1BND. The experience of walking around the village that's still full of life is the main attraction. The locals are friendly and are keen to interact with foreigners. Do be careful walking around as some wooden paths are full of holes.
Yuhng Y — Google review
Kampong (village) Ayer (water) is a community on stilts on the Brunei River. When visiting, please be mindful, you are visiting a residential area. There are some businesses listed, but in general, most occupied buildings are someone’s home. Our trek to Kampong Ayer started from the Brunei Waterfront. At the waterfront, stand near the railing of the pier and you will be asked if you need a boat ride. If you are only taking the brief ride, ~2 minutes or less, to Kampong Ayer, it is B$1 per person. Getting a tour is a different price. For the return route, stand by a loading platform and a boat may already be there or one will soon appear. Always confirm your passage fee before boarding. As mentioned this is a community on stilts. The walking path is supported in the same manner, with planks. The planks ranged from rotting to fairly new and sturdy. There are definitely areas where maintenance is required. The planks are also not tightly secured, so expect gaps. This is not for anyone uncomfortable with walking on a surface that just a few meters above a river and not solid. When here, it’s important to watch where you step and also have a good hold of your phone. Anything dropped would be difficult to retrieve. Fresh water is supplied via blue pipes that edge some of the wooden paths. Electricity is also available, but bio waste supposedly goes into the river. Again, make sure personal belongings, especially phones are secured. If you, this is a unique community that may be of interest.
Winnie T — Google review
Kampong Ayer is a fascinating glimpse into Brunei's traditional way of life. The stilt houses over the river are impressive, and it's amazing to see a fully functioning community with schools, mosques, and shops all built above water. Taking a water taxi to explore the village was a unique experience. The residents were friendly, and the cultural gallery provided insightful information about the history and lifestyle of the area. A must-visit to understand the rich heritage of Brunei.
Ryan K — Google review
I loved visiting Kampong Ayer. Such a beautiful sight to see the oldest & largest water village in the world. A fully sufficient settlement with primary & secondary schools, fire station, police station & mosque. Costs 1 BND each way to cross the river from Begawan waterfront. Just wait at a Jeti & a boatman will come & get you. This isn’t a “tourist attraction”, but an impressive real way of life for thousands of Bruneians. Please come here with respect. Check out Kampong Ayer Cultural & Tourism Gallery to get a glimpse of the water village history. Meet a local boatman, he’ll show you their water village cruising around from their boat & for a reasonable price he will also take you down the Brunei River to scope out proboscis monkeys, crocodiles & an impressive sunset. Rudy on Isabella is the best.
Danielle W — Google review
I visited Kampong Ayer in the late afternoon, hoping to see places where they make boats, arches and prawn crackers but didn't find any. A one-way boat ride costs B$1. Watch your step as some wooden planks are old or loosely nailed.
Ced A — Google review
Worth a visit, easily accessible with 1$ boat per person (even if 1 person only) very cool to see how they still have restaurants, hotels, shops and mosques on water

Is definitely interesting place, unfortunately is following a part and is fast getting abandoned. You can have a tour whit a fast boat to see most of the place.

The fame water village like the Venice but almost all wooden built. Some parts of the village are not well maintained and should be careful whenever walking on the old wooden path. There are many sights within the island, and there are regular taxi boats too to ferry passengers to either side of the land. The cost is 1BND, but if you fancy for a private tour, boat hiring quoted me 20BND for a 30 minute ride

Edit 4: Lovely samosas. The best in Brunei according to a mate but I don't eat too many samosas to ascertain if this is correct or not. They were nice. They gave me a free drink a mojito or something which was delicious. I also tried the afghani palau and lamb paya. The afghani palau was delicious as usual. Succulent and tender as expected. They definitely know how to cook quality pulao. The lamb paya were absolutely delicious and the bones were well dissolved. Definitely something which I'll want to try every weekend. Edit 3. July 2023 I ordered chapli kebabs. Muttton karahi and Afghani Palau. The Palau was good but that's standard. The karahi was meh. Not enough meat for the price and felt off. It felt like they are skimping on value since the chapli kebab tastes more of wheat rather than beef which should be their main ingredient. I love chapli kebabs and this experience was really disappointing. Much better chapli kebabs at seri damai. Edit 2: I avoided this place for the last year due to small portions but tried it again and was impressed. The chapli kebab were delicious, the chicken Karahi was very nice and we also ordered the special :Afghani paluo . It was 10/10. Aromatic and tasty. ========================= Excellent service and food. I loved the mixed kebab! Definitely worth it.

We had 2 different naans, chickpeas, spinach with cheese, okra, chicken karahi, lamb mandi, I may not not the name of the dishes but I do know they were fresh, flavorful (not watery blended spinach but nice and delicious dense flavor). The portions were generous, environment is relaxing, the host/hostess were very approachable and for a first time visit, BBQ Tonight left an exceptional impression. Oh! There were even cheesecake at the end.

Loved the food! It was very tasty. Try the onion chapati as well as the beef biryani and ayam(chicken) Mandi. Both are excellent dishes What is important is the food but I think that the environment could be a bit more enhanced to reflect the ambience of the food. Service was okay. warm but it's understandable that more questions could not be answered after our other guests.

This is a restaurant in the heart of Kiulap business area serving Pakistani food. It has been in business for about a year. The place was previously occupied by Serikandi Restaurant. The outside of the restaurant is dominated by a huge green signboard bearing the name of the restaurant. At the entrance, there is menu written by hand on a white board. A good indicator of what to expect inside. The interior layout of the restaurant has not changed much from the previous restaurant. The tables are covered with grey table cloth on which you will find cheap transparent plastic sheet. Yikes! The chairs are fitted with bright red covers. The menu is green laminated booklet. They have wide variety of nans. You can order, plain, cheese, Roghni, onion, Kalonji and garlic nans. There is no dosai here - that's Indian food. There is also briyani, kebab, butter chicken, jalfrezi etc. I ordered garlic nan with sweet lassi. These came within 5 minutes. Very fast. The nans were cut into 4. They're fluffy with thin sliced garlic on top and served with chickpeas curry. Very delicious! The lassi was great as well and goes down well with the nan. The restaurant is air-conditioned. A pleasant place for a meal. There is no TV and no music was played when I was there. The price is very reasonable with chicken briyani, chicken tandoori briyani, beef briyani going for $5. Mutton briyani is $7. Definitely the place to go if you want to eat authentic Pakistani food.

Embark on the Brunei River Cruise to explore the stunning wildlife and natural beauty of Brunei. As you cruise along the river, you'll have the chance to spot proboscis monkeys, macaques, crocodiles, and a variety of beautiful birds in their natural habitat.
Tried the cruise during Ramadhan 2023. Very nice experience. Well decorated interior 🎉 Great for pics and selfie or whatnot Surprisingly, food quality is very good too! Well cooked Ayam Bakar with flavorful sauce, fresh and sweet honeydew + watermelon, portion was big enough for the family, etc. Worth the $38 cost in my opinion.

One of the best yacht ride in Brunei for a cruise around kampong ayer with food on the deck and able to take wonderful photos, either wedding photo or anniversary photo. Wheelchair accessible is possible and quite cheap for a boat ride around 1 to 2 hours. Great view of Bandar Seri Begawan and I really enjoyed the wind blowing by the river. There are safe guard on board all the time and addition with the old locals hanging around in the captains rooms for entertainment. The boat isn't super rusty or making loud noises from the engine. One of the greatest experience in Brunei by far.
Taanker — Google review
This is a wonderful way to spend 2- 3 hours with friends and family. It's actually a sunset cruise and you can be assured of getting stunning photos with the river, water village, RIPAS bridge, Temburong bridge .....as the backdrop. So try it out when there is very little cloud cover. The boat is covered with air-conditioning and with facilities for staying out on the deck or bow which are not covered. With the gentle breeze blowing across on a cloudy day the deck and bow was more delightful than the covered areas. They allow you to bring in food of your choice. There is karaoke at the top deck if you really want to rock the boat with some spirited singing. Or you can just immerse yourself watching the waters and greenery around. The staff are very courteous.

My family and I enjoyed a delightful high tea cruise in Brunei, though the vessel’s interior leaned more retro than refined. The air conditioning was set so high that the cabin felt like a freezer, so I’d recommend bringing a sweater. Once we set sail, a TV screen shared insights about the passing landmarks, while the crew offered a tempting array of snacks and drinks for purchase. The true highlight was the breathtaking sunset, followed by a stunning rainbow on our return journey, perfectly capturing Brunei’s serene and peaceful charm.

Actually not bad. Peaceful experiences except we went at 5 pm so it was hot around 5.30 pm. 2 hours sightseeing, you get to see sunset as well. Not to worry, if it gets hot, you can get inside the boat with aircond. Definitely recommended! You get to see ripas bridge up close as well.

Beautiful and serene Chinese Buddhist temple in the heart of Brunei. I was here this month (June) and aside from a caretaker and 2 other Asian tourists, the place was deserted. But it is a very beautiful place with lots of somber and exquisite statues and other artworks.

If you're exploring Brunei, make sure to stop by Taurean Cafe at The Arch for a delightful dining experience. This cozy and clean cafe offers a warm atmosphere where you can enjoy a variety of food options. One standout dish is the wet fried noodles, featuring yellow mee in a rich dark sauce paired with tender chicken slices and fresh green vegetables—perfect for those craving something hot yet light. Don't miss out on their refreshing carrot and orange juice made from real fruit!
Cozy and clean cafe. Had wet fried noodles for dinner. It’s yellow mee in dark sauce with chicken slices and green vegetables with a little wok Hei (big fire cooking taste). It’s tasty and not too salty. Can try if you are there and want something piping hot and light. The carrot and orange juice is refreshing! Real fruit juice.
SY — Google review
There are many restaurants in Brunei that focus too much on quantity than quality; curating an extensive menu with too many dishes to choose from. Taurean Cafe is one of the many restaurants that is defined by this, but truly lacks other important qualities that makes it stand out. I guess they were trying to stand out by balancing an extensive food menu with an extensive drinks menu. Just like other restaurants with extensive menu, there is no dietary restrictions key and no description attached to each dish to entail what it consists of. Service was very minimal and distant. A server would hand you an order paper slip for you to write down your dishes. Then you press a button on the table for them to come to your table to pick up the paper slip. There were little to none vegetarian dishes, which of course meant, no vegan options. Bad news for those who follow such restrictions. I had to ask which of the fried rice/nasi goreng could be amended to cater to my dietary restrictions. Since everything has to include chicken. The server didn’t seem to grasp when I told them you can add vegetables into the fried rice but think the only solution is nothing at all. In the end they included some greens. The fried rice was had too much soy sauce and didn’t taste good. I also had the cendol, which was ok. A bit too much ice for my liking. Price-wise, it is on the mid-high range based on Brunei pricing standards. Yet, the food isn’t even that good. Free drinking water is available. Space-wise, there is both indoors and outdoors space. There are plenty of table and seating space enough to accommodate to groups of 4-6 people. Ramp access is available to the entrance of the restaurant.

The ambiance was so nice. But we are so sad and so much disappointment about the food, and its our first time we really wanna go here so thats why me and my friend went there to try, we ordered caesar salad with chicken and seafood platter. The salad, is so plain, and bland. The seafood platter for $11 presentation is nice, bu its like u are only eating breadcrumbs. Cant taste the fish, (the calamari is nice but only 2 pcs and 2pcs of prawn, the rest is fish but taste like only breadcrumbs and tooooo oily😭😭😭 Tea tarik was so good Carrot juice also nice. Free soup nice To the management please fix this. we would like to come again. Thank you

Kampong Ayer, known as the Water Village in Malay, is a captivating destination that showcases the largest water settlement in Southeast Asia. Nestled along the Brunei River and just a stone's throw from Bandar Seri Begawan's city center, this unique village offers an immersive cultural experience. Visitors can embark on guided tours to meet local families and enjoy traditional tea, making for an unforgettable hour spent exploring this fascinating community where thousands of Bruneians reside.
Great place for travellers, bad place for tourists. If you're after a raw experience, 100% on your own foot, this place is for you. If you're overconcerned about safety, maybe skip this and head straight to Thailand (or home).
Wojtek S — Google review
The boat leaving this place was the best thing about it. A lifeless, abandoned, run-down and perilous floating village. Even my heavily edited photos cannot hide how bleak the place was. Just 2 or 3 building with a splash of colour. Everything else rotting and drab, even on a sunny day. Nothing open. Not a single person. Little information. Some walkways closed due to literally falling in to the water. Others should have been closed. An unenjoyable experience and happy to have left quickly.
D — Google review
Visited Kampong Ayer in the late afternoon hoping to find interesting spots like where they make boats, arches and prawn crackers but didn't come across any. A one-way boat ride costs B$1. Be extra careful when walking around. Some wooden planks are old and not properly nailed.
Ced A — Google review
The paths felt unsafe to walk on and could not see any people. Would not recommend if you are afraid of water, those bridges really feel unstable.
Andrei P — Google review
Fascinating, impressive, the oldest & largest water village in the world. And thousands of Bruneians live here. Costs 1 BND to cross each way from Begawan waterfront. To go back, just wait at a Jeti & they will bring you back. Head to Kampong Ayer Cultural & Tourism Gallery to learn about their history. There are extensive walkways to wander on foot & from a boat, you’ll traverse underneath bridges & walkways. Kampong Ayer is incredible to see & a river cruise with a local boatman is a must while in Brunei. Rudy on Isabella is the best.

If you're planning a journey from Kota Kinabalu to Bandar Seri Begawan, the Sipitang Express Bus Station is your gateway to adventure! Nestled next to the bustling Gadong Night Market, this station has become the new hub for travelers. The bus ride takes approximately 7-10 hours and includes four border crossings—perfect for those who love collecting passport stamps!
Bus to Kota kinabalu departs from here at 8:00 am every third day, but please double check on the Sipitang express website, that’s Where you see the schedule and Where you book the tickets. You have to book online. You should arrive 30 minutes before departure. The stamps Will take up 1-2 pages because you get 6 of them. My bus was not even half full and the seats are nice, but no charging ports. A stop is made for 1 hour in Lawas to eat lunch, ”Everyday chicken and rice” had a nice meal for 8myr. The bus company is gonna ask you to fill out a digital arrival card for Malaysia and Brunei because you’re entering both Malaysia and Brunei on this trip. The border people never asked for the arrival cards, and some people on the bus never even filled them out. But just do it, better safe than sorry.

A trail nearby would lead to the ruins and excavations inside the forested area. The same area as the maritime museum.

Learn about the different ways of fishing . Learn about the existence and buildings of the Water Village. Learn about the traditional games play by children in the old days. Learn about the craft industries and how it is preserved till today

Nature & Parks
Taman Jubli Perak is a serene park located on the outskirts of central Bandar Seri Begawan. It offers a peaceful retreat with lush greenery and man-made landmarks. While it's popular for jogging, casual sports, and relaxation during the day, evenings are recommended to avoid excessive sun exposure. Accessible by foot, car, or boat depending on tidal conditions, the park provides ample space for walks and jogging.
Beautiful and peaceful park on the outskirts of central Bandar Seri Begawan. During the day, locals go for jogs, play casual sports, and relax here, taking in the beautiful dense forest surrounding the equally-stunning man-made landmarks and buildings.

Unfortunaly no fountain is working the central plateau is dried out. So it‘s still hot inside the park.

Nice place for family outing. Food trucks during night time.

A good place to exercise. The place is calming
Desert Z — Google review
the place seems like a tragedy waiting to happen. relevant authorities need to ensure that the park is safe for families to spend their weekends at.

Nice designed park. Plenty space. Garden maintained. But water features are no longer active and needing some repairs
Drift W — Google review
A local park in the city. Best time to go in the evening if you don't want to get sun-tanned. Can be reached easily by foot, car or boat (depending on the tidal situation). The only drawback is the river can be smelly and laden with rubbish.
Naqib I — Google review
One of the biggest parks in Bandar. Maintenance is not up to the standards. No proper lighting in all places. Good for walks and jogging. If it rains difficult to find a shelter.

For 730am Sunday masses be aware or road closure 6am to 10am under Car Free Sunday program. Was in Tagalog when I went today. Lovely choir. But would be good if the church could indicate which are non English masses. God bless your priests and your parish

Brunei Catholic Church of Our Lady of Assumption (COLA), sadly attended Cornelius Cardinal Sim funeral mass on 15th June 2021. He will be missed by many parishioners, may his soul rest in peace. Been attending this church for over 50+ years, even went its associated St George Primary School, next to the church. i remember in the old days, it used to be a bare bone church with no aircon. Now expanded and much better renovated & nicely decorated, fully aircon. Always full of life every Christmas season except this year cos we lost our Cardinal Sim in 2021

I visited the place on a Sunday and it's definitely heartwarming to see fellow Filipinos gather as one community moreso as a family.

Beautiful church. Mass on 6 p.m. I came to visit this attraction but eventually joined the mass due to heavy rain. It's good to see some local activities.
