Hunan Museum, located in Kaifu District of Changsha City, is a vast museum covering 12 acres and boasting an extensive collection of historical artifacts. Established in the early 1950s, it is situated adjacent to Martyres Park and features cultural relics from various dynasties including the Han, Shang, Zhou, and Chu. The museum's collections include pottery, porcelain works, calligraphy pieces, paintings as well as modern cultural relics.
The museum was so huge! If you’re into history, I’d definitely recommend to spare out a couple of hours to visit this place. My favorite part was getting to know about the Xin Zhui’s cadaver, how the body was kept without decaying. Very interesting!
Celine Y — Google review
Our group arrived at 3.30pm , having very limited time to walk around the largest History & Art Museum in Hunan. It has a total floor area of 112,469 square meter. We were told currently it houses over 540,000 items (sets) of cultural relics & artifacts in its collections. The cultural relics & artifacts were unearthed from the Mawangdui Han Tombs, bronze wares ,pottery and porcelain works from various dynasties, paintings, calligraphy works. Thus there are 2 basic exhibitions, namely "The Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs in Changsha" and "Hunanese-Exhibition of Hunan History and Culture" The Mawangdui Exhibition Hall is chock-a-block with visitors, making it very challenging for us to get a good view of the tombs of the Marquis of Dai & Lady Xin Zhui. However, there are wall-mounted text panels providing descriptions of exhibits. As closing time is 5pm , we just strolled through before closing time, making a last visit to its Souvenirs Shop. Like they say, “ Hunan Museum” also known as “Mawangdui Museum” is a cultural landmark of Changsha City which attracted millions of visitors. It’s a must see in Changsha if you ever travel to Hunan !!!

Highlight was seeing an actual mummy a corpse preserved for over 1200 years using ancient Chinese method from Han dynasty time. I was intrigued beyond belief. Photography is generally allowed inside the museum except for the mummy. They’ve 1:1 replica of the tomb that was unearthed back in 1972.
Rahul S — Google review
A nice museum which has two main displays now, one is Pompeii ruins & the other one is Han Dynasty tombs with well kept mummy. The body is amazing fresh like just passed away recently. Of course, a lot of items including kitchen ware, cloths & potteries. A very impressed exhibition.

Reall nice museum. Recommended to go. Book in advance, free. Special event have pay.
J B — Google review
If you're a tourist, please get the hotel receptionist/concierge to assist you. This museum requests a local contact number in order for you to get an entry ticket. I've never been so excited to see a vast collection of artefacts displayed in a museum. This museum also housed fully preserved tomb structure and wealth that comes with it, making it one of the most important archaeology discoveries ever recorded of the 20th century. One of many museums I'd visited thus far that fascinates me. Visiting hours : 0900 - 1700 (last entry 1600) Closed on Monday. Entry with valid ticket and passport.
Paulyn B — Google review
The entry system sucks as they are unable to scan the pre-registered QR codes and detect the registered ID document efficiently. The on-site staffs are helpful and have tried their best to guide the crowd and identify the queue which accepts the non- Chinese ID registrations. The management can do much more, such as setting up the LED signages at the entrance and enhancing the computer systems please!! The exhibitions are amazing and impressive as the 2000 years old “lady mummy” named 辛追and her stuffs are kept well, I like its thinnest silk jacket. They even show the original drawing of the imagery heaven and hell by Chinese painters several 1000 years ago (the one with black bird, which signifies the god of Sun), before the belief of Buddhist arrives in China. However, the bad experience at the entry nearly ruins this visit, the museum management should put more efforts in improving this. Further, please add the basic English instruction on the signages. For foreign visitors , please be reminded to register to reserve the free entry tickets at preferred time-slots via the official WeChat account, the reservation is opened 7 days in advance.
Waha F — Google review
Most of the exhibits comes with English description, and features artifacts that are over some 2000 years ago. The exhibits shows how the wealthy influence the society and even till now.

Tianxin Pavilion is a historical complex located on the site of the old city walls, surrounded by lush greenery. It has a significant history dating back to the Anti-Japanese Wars when it narrowly escaped destruction, with only a small section of the city wall and the pavilion remaining intact. The pavilion features forty-six red lacquered columns, chestnut powder walls, and stone lions carved on stone railings.
Very nice light at night time.
J B — Google review
A pleasant place to visit. There are a few displays. It is possible to climb to to the top level of the Pavillion. If you are visiting and you see a group entering one of the buildings and putting on 3D glasses, you should follow them for an audio visual presentation with English sub-titles.

Peaceful pavillion in the city center. 32 CNY entrance fee to enter the top of the hill. Surrounding park is free.

Did not go into the pavilion as it required entrance fee of CNY32. Outside the entrance, there are many people doing all sorts of exercises.

Theme Parks
Changsha Window of the World is a large theme park that offers a unique experience for visitors. It features replicas of famous global landmarks such as Mount Rushmore, the Egyptian pyramids, and the Neuschwanstein Castle. The park also showcases the Xiangjiang Valley, which highlights the rich history and culture of Hunan Province with attractions like the Yuelu Academy and Fenghuang Ancient City Gate.
Although not a perfect place and quite old, it’s a great place to pay a visit during the trip to Changsha. They have some great places for photo shooting and rides together with food stalls. The main set back is that they don’t speak English and the foods are not tolerable for foreigners like us. But overall, it was quite a nice visit.
Khant Z — Google review
Probably the best China could afford in those era to give it's citizens a view of the great places of the world. Now most of them probably afford to see the original ones across the globe. OK for kids, to have a glimpse of the world famous sites and monuments in the same place.
Debasish R — Google review
Window of the world was an experience! The theme park itself was quite old and worn, with a lot of the park looking dirty and unclean. But it had a certain charm and I especially enjoyed the lake's water fountain show to some Disney and opera songs. I really did enjoy it and the lack of stars is only a reflection on the tiredness of the park. Sydney Opera House for example looked as though it had been on a three week bender - looked a bit dirty and smelly, but like lots of fun...
Taylor S — Google review
Came here for a layover in Changsha. Tickets are expensive (180 RMB) and not worth it. The park was tired and worn out with barely any people during the day. Seemed almost like an abandoned amusement park. Performances were not happening and there were barely any staff in the park. Go to the one in Shenzhen...it's 10x better!
S — Google review
Beautiful theme park with very accurate reproductions of world famous monuments. Very nice cultural show in evening. Don't miss to see the beautiful Chinese girl dressed as Chinese traditional wedding girl. Thanks to Ms Zheng Hao who took me to this beautiful place during my visit to Changsha. Must go during visit to Changsha.

Effendy Z — Google review
(Translated by Google) I was prepared to go after seeing the reviews saying it was old, but it was even more beautiful than I expected. It was nice that there weren't many people. I took my 1-year-old with me, and it was nice to take a walk, and there was also an indoor amusement park for kids. The staff seemed to be taking turns taking a break, so there were some play equipment that I couldn't ride on. Boats and VR require additional fees. When I ordered gyudon at a shop next to the roller coaster that rotates once, it was seasoned like a hot pot. There were also other stinky tofu shops. Although you can't see it on the map, there are many hills, so if you have small children, we recommend renting a stroller. The Ferris wheel had a lot of stairs so it was a little difficult. It was a nice change of pace. I think 20 yuan per person is cheap considering you can play this much.

Yuelu Mountain, located on the west bank of Xiangjiang River, offers a stunning display of red maple trees from mid-November to early December at the Autumn-Admiring Pavilion. The mountain is home to the Ancient Tree Botanical Garden, featuring ancient and famous trees dating back to various dynasties. Visitors can explore historical sites like Mawangdui Han Tomb and Hunan Provincial Museum while marveling at the extraordinary moon land and Tianxin Pavilion.
If you’re a foreign visitor, you can go without making a reservation. It’s a beautiful mountain right in the city. You can enjoy drinks or tea and relax at the top of the mountain. Plan to spend at least 2–3 hours in this area. it’s rich in the history of the mountain, the city, and the nearby university.

It takes around 45mins of uphill walk to reach the peak from the main gate entrance near 溁湾镇(地铁站). Was a tiring hike up, but there is an option of a tram ride. Hike up and on your way down, you can visit An Wan pavilion, then Yue Lu Academy.
Kelly Z — Google review
This one was quite overrated for me. Once you get to the entrance you pay for a bus service to go to the top assuming you don’t want to take the long walk. Once you are up there you can see a nice view of the city but that’s about it. The other attractions here are kind of mediocre.

I went into the park thinking it was just a park with little walkways and a lake. It turns out it is much more fun than that. It has a small theme park with fun rides. Places to eat and have a drink. Kaifu Temple, situated just outside the north gate of Changsha, boasts a history spanning over 1000 years and is considered one of China's significant Buddhist monasteries. The serene surroundings of mountains and flowing water offer a glimpse into the sparsely populated past. Visitors can explore the expansive grounds, which include a large pond teeming with fish, turtles, and ducks. The temple complex features ancient structures dating back hundreds of years and offers an opportunity to immerse in local history.
A great place in the city to experience the culture and see some great architecture. Monks, statues and giftshops.
Eduardo N — Google review
Kaifu Temple is renowned for its blessings, featuring a statue of the White Guan Im near the entrance. Upon entering with a ticket, visitors are provided with a set of incense. The temple houses several rooms of statues for blessings.
Tony C — Google review
When you visit Changsha, make sure to stop by this historic temple. In 1956, it was established as a cultural conservation unit in Hunan Province. It is one of the most important open monasteries in Chinese Buddhism, the Buddhist Zen Linzong Yangqi Temple. Before you enter and purchase tickets, they will additionally offer you a packet of three joss sticks to worship with. When you enter, there is a large Guanyin statue where people gather to pray for blessings and good luck. There are several old buildings inside, with a solemn and quiet environment that will leave you feeling peaceful and calm. The lotus pond inside the temple is full of pigeons and turtles, and there are small monk statues down the aisle. Many Chinese people love to come here and take pictures with those yellow and red walls too. Address: 湖南省长沙市开福区开福寺路52号 (Take a metro line 1 to Kaifu Temple station, and exit at exit 1) Open from 6:30–18:30 (stop entry at 17:30)

Good Connectivity to CHANGSHA KEY TRAIN STATIONS [CHANGSHA and CHANGSHANAN (Changsha South).] Changsha Huanghua airport is connected by Metro and Maglev train to link you to the main train stations in Changsha. To get to High Speed train station at CHANGSHANAN (SOUTH), take Metro Line 6 from Airport Station to RENMIN EAST ROAD station. Then change to Metro Line 2 to JINTAI station. This station is just a few minutes walk to the High Speed Rail station that can connect you to other major cities in China (especially Zhangjiajie). Just ask for assistance from the counter if you need help.

If you're a tourist you have to go here. If you don't speak Chinese they don't want you downstairs - it's too complicated, and they have their hands full with a gazillion Chinese tourists. They send you upstairs to a buffet affair, which is OK. Be brave. But don't bother with the black tofu: pace other reviewers, it's actually dull here - much better is to be had from the small shops down the street

There is limited English signage. 4G signal is strong, so if you have a roaming sim you can use Google Translate via images. Worth up to an hour here, no more. Visited on a normal Saturday in May. No queue at all to get in. Relatively quiet and empty.

It's a museum about the origin of writing materials. It's a great museum to visit if you are literate in Chinese or you have someone to translate. Otherwise, you can give this place a miss.

(Translated by Google) This museum displays bamboo slips from the pre-Qin to medieval times. The exhibition area is divided into two floors. The first floor provides a general introduction to the concept of "bamboo slips," their categories, and various bamboo and wood slips excavated during the pre-Qin and Han dynasties. It also discusses the evolution of written language in bamboo slips around the world, including mentions of slips from non-Chinese regions such as Japan, Korea, India, and Western Europe. The second floor, titled "Flowing Xiang River," showcases bamboo slips from various periods excavated in Hunan. Most of these are cultural relics, accompanied by traditional Chinese explanatory texts. In addition to the more familiar Qin and Han slips from Liye, Wuyi Square, and Zoumalou, these also include slips from the Warring States period, written in Chu script, from Wulipai and Yangjiawan. Unfortunately, many of the slips in the display cases are replicas. Overall, the museum offers a rich collection of artifacts. The descriptions and explanatory texts on the slips are also clear. The overall presentation is geared towards providing an introductory understanding of bamboo slips. It is suitable for those who are interested in bamboo slips and researchers who want to understand the general outline of the discovery of bamboo slips in Hunan.

Wuyi Square is a vibrant business district located in the heart of Changsha. It's a bustling area where locals and tourists can enjoy a mix of old-school alleyway bars, bustling malls, and multi-story clubs. The district is super dense with department stores and shopping malls like IFS, making it an ideal place to spend the whole day shopping.

A giant pedestrian area with a lot of shops and street food with a section of luxury brands along with normal day to day Chinese brands. At night it looks really pretty with the lights and the vibes here are great. Just make sure to stay weary of tourist traps when you eat the food here.
Allen L — Google review
Wuyi Square is basically Changsha’s living room — loud, neon, and never asleep. By day it’s a crossroads of commuters, shoppers, and snack-hunters. By night, the whole place glows like a giant karaoke stage, with street performers, food stalls, and more energy than three cups of milk tea. What to do: • Wander into Huangxing Road Pedestrian Street for snacks and shopping. • Brace yourself for stinky tofu — it smells like regret but tastes like victory. • People-watch, take night photos, and soak in the chaos. Tip: go to Juzizhou station at sunset, watch the lights set and stroll slowly over to Wu Yi square for max vibes

I don't think you can finish walking this entire street in 1 day with the numerous shops and eateries. Just when u think you covered it all, the metro or subway in the basement has even more shops, and whether it is weekend or weekday, the entire place is jam-packed with people. My journey going back home was a surprise and a disaster, from Changsha south station to Guangzhou railway station. First, while I was queuing for my ticket at the ticket office, a staff from the station came up to me and my friend and said “we would like to film you and your friend for a special news”. This was out of the blue and I definitely did not want to but she did not acknowledge my response and decided to carry on moving me to the ticket box and started filming us. I will accept that because of the communication barrier but was it necessary to read out, not only mine but my friends passport number out so loud through a mic phone for everyone to hear and on news too! CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY AND I HOPE THEY EDIT IT OUT FOR PERSONAL SECURITY! They also took so long time to process my ticket which was extra annoying as I was in hurry for the train that was about to leave in 30mins which I still had to go through check-in, security check and find my gate number! Second. After experiencing 3 high speed train journeys, I have always placed my hand luggage in between my legs which has enough room for the person in-front of me to move their chair back to sleep. But noooo! These guys next to me insist to move my luggage to the overheads which they really p*****d me off so much! I struggled so much to get it down because of my height and that I also want to get of the train ASAP for my next train. Overall, Changsha is a good railway station but I definitely suggest not want to stay long in the station as it’s really crowded and beware of local asian people, they can get aggressive.

Wenheyou Laochangsha Lobster Restaurant is a popular spot known for its clever marketing and rapid expansion from a tiny food stall. A famous eating spot due to clever marketing and PR, I was told that the young owner started his business in a tiny food stall and expanded in a very rapid time. As our party knew the owners, we were given priority seating without the usual 1-2 hour wait. The insides of the restaurant were modeled after the streets of Changsha from retro years back, and was quite a sight to behold. Certain VIP rooms had a homely theme as well. Food was pretty tasty, highlights besides the small lobsters (langoustines) were the rice served in lashings of lard and soy, hollow stem veggies, plum pickles. The fermented tofu was passable. Instructions were given to de shell the langoustines but I wasn’t very good at it so it was good my party had experts.

A reproduction of the old Changsha with a multitude of vibrant restaurants serving Hunan spicy food. Spicy rock lobsters, and lamb spicy hot pot are a must.
Alexandre F — Google review
This is heaps of fun! You have to get a ticket and wait your turn for a table (you can recognise Chinese numbers when the concierge bellows them out, can't you?) It's a tick-the-box menu, and printed in fancy script, which makes it pretty hard to read if your Chinese isn't great. The staff will try to help you, but they panic a bit and won't give you time to puzzle out the menu. Lesson: while you're waiting for your table, obtain a copy of the menu to study It all works out in the end: the "lobster" (yabbies, crayfish, marrons, langoustines) are what you came for, and they're worth it. They come in several levels of hotness - make your preference known. Ignore the black tofu - much better is available from shops on Pozi St

Really sucks! When it rains most animals are keep inside. When we paid for all the animal shows we only got to see the monkeys & bears cycle around. But the consolation is that we get to see the wild animals at it's close proximity & running towards the mini bus. Won't ever go again.

With this ticket, you can use safaris, animal shows, etc. Your passport is required as your ID will be checked when purchasing a ticket. If you have a Chinese ID, it seems you can scan the QR code and process it through your mobile phone without waiting in line to buy a ticket. After entering the entrance, the safari bus departs near the exit on the left. The windows on the bus were all glass and did not open, and the window on the right seemed to have more things to see. However, the bus speed was so fast (for a safari) that it felt like it was spinning around a race track. At the safari drop off point, there is a building where animals living in the cold water are gathered. There is an animal performance area in the same area as the children's zoo, and there is a place where you can ride goat-drawn carriages, horses, and camels. Animal performances include bears, monkeys, and tigers. It's unavoidable, but I feel sorry for the animals that appear. Overall, the zoo is well-equipped with a variety of fish, birds, reptiles, etc., and there are quite a few monkeys and tigers. I unexpectedly saw a crocodile, but for some reason I couldn't see the panda as it was away from home. The ride area is outside the zoo entrance. Huang Xing Road Pedestrian Street is a bustling 838-meter-long food street in Changsha, offering a wide variety of delicious local snacks and diverse cuisine. The street comes alive at night, making it perfect for a leisurely evening stroll. It's a vibrant mix of retro and modern shops, creating an eclectic cultural experience. While the area can get crowded during holidays, it's known for its lively atmosphere and abundance of tasty treats.
The most well-known and bustling walking street in the city is a vibrant hub of activity. It offers a diverse range of food, souvenirs, snacks, clothing, and fashion items. As night falls, the street comes alive with beautiful lights, creating a captivating atmosphere.

A hustle-bustle hub for street-buskers and street food in Changsha. This pedestrianized shopping street is surreal with it's vibrant marketing ploys inclusive of costumes, games and dancers that try to encourage you into the jewellery shops. Plenty of stores selling the authentic street food from the spicy dried duck, stinky tofu and skewered meat (and creepy-crawlies like scorpion and centipedes). The malls are great value for money for clothes and sporting good and there are a load of souvenir shops. The only downside is if you are quite sensitive to noise, the token marketing loud speakers do make quite a blaring enviroment.
Georgie B — Google review
Another popular pedestrian street to visit in Changsha. There are numerous retail and grocery stores, leisure and entertainment options, and humanistic learning opportunities available here. It is a giant 3D advertisement screen where you can take a video, as well as a nearby Huangxing bronze statue. You may discover many wonderful Hunan dishes and snacks here, including stinky tofu at 黑色经典臭豆腐, drinks from 茶颜悦色, a modern Chinese tea shop, and crayfish shrimp. You can also buy a few souvenirs here before traveling home. The view in the evening and at night is stunning, with colorful lighting and vibrant music. To take a picture of the Changsha landmark sculptures, KAWS: seeing/watching, which are displayed on the building's roof on the 7th floor, you can walk directly to the IFS mall from here in about 5 minutes (you can take an elevator near the shopping center to go up). If you would like, you can wait in line to take a photo with it. The tallest structure in this area, IFS Tower T1, is also available for photos. Address: 湖南省长沙市天心区黄兴南路383号

The Yuelushan Ropeway offers a delightful escape for those looking to unwind in Changsha. On a sunny Sunday, I strolled from the historic Yuelu Academy to the chairlift, which provided an exhilarating ride back down. The area surrounding the base is filled with charming restaurants and tea shops, creating a laid-back vibe perfect for weekend relaxation. Although my visit was slightly hazy, it didn’t detract from the stunning views of the city skyline visible during the ascent.
Very good experience, you can see the city skyline when you sit into the chairlift. It is very suitable for family and friends trip

It's quite relaxing letting the chairlift do the work. It was a bit hazy so the views were not as good as they could have been. There are a few cafes and some space to walk around at the top. As well as the chairlift there are little busses that go up and down. There's also a slide that comes all the way down. Be sure not to miss the last ride down (I was told 4:30) if you are coming down on the chairlift.

We walked up from Yuelu Academy to this chairlift on a warm Sunday morning and then took the chairlift back down. The chairlift was quite fun - there were many restaurants in the suburb at the base of the chairlift so this is a good day out if you are stuck in Changsha on a weekend. The whole area has a really relaxed atmosphere with plenty of tea shops, restaurants and people enjoying themselves. Highly recommended.

Don’t take this with babies or little kids - not safe and they won’t warn you at all. You know it’s fixed cablechairs, not cable cars as claimed, only if you actually have no choice but rush into a chair (in this sense you are lucky enough to check these pictures beforehand). When your youngsters fuss the only thing you could hope is good luck as you won’t be able to guarantee that you have free hands to take care of the situation (there ain’t seat belts to secure anyone). Attitude of the crew is also very bad - not considerate at all. They will just try to tell you that you are psychos or cowards and they’ll keep telling you they never had any accident, a way to avoiding taking any responsibilities or intentions to improve their service. They don’t understand that things are always fine before anything devastating really happens.
J P — Google review
