The Ghibli Museum is a delightful haven for fans of animation and art, located just a short stroll from Mitaka Station. This enchanting space pays tribute to the beloved Studio Ghibli, creators of iconic films like Totoro and Spirited Away. Visitors can immerse themselves in original artwork, enjoy exclusive animated shorts in the cozy cinema, and wander through the rooftop garden featuring the impressive Robot Soldier from Laputa Castle in the Sky.
What a lovely place to visit for Ghibli fans. There's so much history and behind the scenes of original artwork and makings of various movies. Tickets are quite challenging to come by so don't expect to just show up the day of and expect to get in as you need to book well in advance! Be respectful and do not take pictures on the inside, only outside. For those tight on time, you can do the entire museum, with short movie feature, and shopping in about 1.5 hours. Definitely worth the trip and knocked off my bucket list.

This place is magical! Every detail has been considered to make the Ghibli Museum fun for both kids and adults. Don't miss the screening for a short film that can only be watched at the museum. Photography is not allowed inside the building but outside is ok. Tickets must be purchased in advance for entry.
Dennis T — Google review
The Ghibli Museum was the highlight of my 2-week trip to Japan!! I cannot describe adequately what a fulfilling experience this was. Ticket reservations are required and getting tickets internationally is honestly based on luck when entering the queue at time of them opening. Seems like they split the population of tickets in half between international vs domestic, so if you have a friend/family who lives in Japan and have a Japanese address/phone #, you will have much better luck getting tickets due to availability. As for the museum itself, there are plenty of reviews and videos regarding the exhibitions and highlights. It made me appreciate the Studio Ghibli films even more and how much effort goes into the making of a film due to volume of frames, laying out storyboards, etc. Photos inside the exhibits are prohibited which I also think allows visitors to just be more immersed in the content and visuals that Miyazaki himself had a hand in designing. If you get a chance to go to Ghibli Museum—prioritize this among all the other places and things to do in Japan. Even my husband, who has only seen a couple films so not a full SG “enthusiast”, had a great time at this museum and thought the exhibits were fascinating :)
Michelle K — Google review
Loved this place! It really feels like stepping into a Ghibli movie with colorful hallways, spiral stairs, stained glass, and so many tiny details everywhere. The exhibits show how the films are made with sketches and storyboards, and there’s a monthly rotating short film you can only watch here, which makes it extra special. The gift shop has lots of exclusive items like postcards, figures, plushies, and ceramics, it’s definitely worth browsing. I also stopped by the cafe and got a chocolate cake and black tea; the cake was moist, fluffy, and not too sweet. You need to buy tickets in advance (they sell out quickly and aren’t sold at the door), and you can only take photos outside. The rooftop garden with the Castle in the Sky robot is such a lovely space.
Miffy — Google review
Finally got the chance to visited the Ghibli Museum with my friend. We went there as the weather was cloudy and end up raining cat and dog. As someone who enjoys Ghibli films this is one of the bucketlist that must visit. it’s a wonderful place to explore. You can queue to enjoy the exclusive short films screen monthly, artwork, drawings, a short animation, gift shop and the atmosphere was wonderful. When you enter the museum be mindful because photos and videos are strictly prohibited. Overall, it’s a nice good experience and worth to visit especially if you are a Ghibli fan. The ticket are cheap but you have to make a reservation book a ticket a month before.
Yurisa — Google review
The Ghibli museum is such a magical place. The decor and exhibits were fascinating. The details of the artwork all beautiful. There is a ticket (film strip souvenir)for a short film included in the admission - the movie was so cute. There is no photography allowed indoors. You just have to appreciate it all with your eyes. We had tickets for the 4pm entry, and in November it gets a bit dark quickly for the exterior shots but it wasn't too crowded.
Mary X — Google review
I enjoyed this museum very much! An indoor museum that focuses on the history and animation of Studio Ghibli. You can immerse yourself into Hayao Miyazaki’s work and explore some of the intricate details found in this museum. A lovely place to relax and get lost into the world of Ghibli! Try to visit on a weekday and first slot in the AM ^_^
The A — Google review
We visited the museum in the morning slot, and the arrival felt quite charming, even though the neighborhood we walked through beforehand was a bit less clean than expected. The museum itself is surrounded by a pleasant environment and has a cozy atmosphere. Inside, the building feels a bit dated, but the exhibitions were interesting and offered a glimpse into the world of Studio Ghibli. Some areas were mildly interactive, though I felt the museum could benefit from more engaging, hands-on elements – especially considering the theme. The space itself is smaller than I imagined and could definitely be expanded to create a richer experience. A practical note: all descriptions inside were only in Japanese, so non-Japanese speakers might miss some context, and photography or phone use is strictly prohibited. Overall, it’s clearly designed with children in mind. If you’re visiting Tokyo as a group of adults, I would not consider it a must-see, as there are many other attractions in the city that may be more rewarding. Still, it was a unique and memorable experience for any fan of Ghibli.

Scenic Walking Areas
Inokashira Park, a 95-acre city park established in 1917, offers a serene escape with its picturesque pond, boating facilities, and scenic trails. The park is renowned for its cherry blossoms, attracting crowds to admire the majestic weeping cherry blossom tree at Rikugien Garden. It's an ideal spot for a leisurely date with attractions like swan boats, temples to explore, and opportunities for picnics.
Lovely park, an oasis of tranquility in the midst of a bustling city. We were surprised by how calm and large it is. Beautifully laid out, spotless and numerous activities. The park also contains a small zoo. The lake adds to the overall serenity. You can rent a pedalo, or a rowing boat, to admire the scenery from the water. The train station is very close to an entrance, and the park is free of charge. Afterwards cross the station to find yourself in covered shopping streets. Plenty of shops and restaurants around, including in the train station.
Arjen T — Google review
Such a beautiful, tranquil park with a lake in the middle. You can even hire out different boats for half an hour from a dock (row boats, Swan pedal boats) to take across the lake. I took a pedal boats with a friend. This was such a great and fun experience. There are also a few shrines around the park, and a few streets with eateries and shops to look around if you get bored. There's also a playground for little kids. The greenery is also spectacular, especially against the backdrop of the lake. I went during June but the park was still very lush. Highly recommend this spot as a nice break from the busy Tokyo city.
Meghana G — Google review
Around 1 hour by train from Ginza to Kichijoji, you can visit this beautiful vast park. There are a lot of things you can see and do here. They have a lot of different areas, from the lakes to the playground and baseball fields. Great for picnic! There is also the Ghibli Museum here. Make sure to book your ticket in advanced as they do not receive walk-in entry (April 2025 visit).

Wow, I was completely blown away how beautiful the park is. Clean, very well maintained, quiet and laid-back. And if you are familiar with Japanese animes and video games, you would have come across this park, and it looks exactly like how it was depicted. There are plenty of trails, and I think the park will look very different as seasons change. The park is open all year round, but I suggest avoiding visiting on a Tuesday, as most cafes are closed.

Absolutely beautiful in the 🍂autumn! I am it’s beautiful in all seasons. Easy walk with absolutely beautiful scenery. You may also choose to go on a small boat ride or visit their mini zoo!

Kichijoji, a trendy neighborhood located just outside Central Tokyo along the Chuo Line, is known for its fashionable clothing stores and upscale dining options. However, it also boasts a more traditional side with Harmonica Yokocho, a historic drinking spot that originated as a flea market after World War II. The area comes alive at night with vibrant back-alleys and offers brunch and lunch menus in the morning.

Harmonica Yokocho is a charming alleyway area in Kichijoji, Tokyo, known for its narrow and tightly packed streets resembling harmonica reeds. During the day, visitors can explore interesting stores offering a mix of USA-branded bag gear, denim, and trendy clothing. The area is perfect for finding unique souvenirs to take back home.
Lots of bars and restaurant options in the area. Had a great time walking through here. If you are in the area I definitely recommend for a night out. Many of the spots in this area are foreigner friendly. You can sit at once of the bars and have your own little slice of Tokyo
Michael P — Google review
A quaint area of the city but way over-priced, low-quality food & not what I’d call typical izakaya service. We have eaten at many establishments & never once queried the prices we paid. At Harmonica Yokocho we left after just 40 minutes with a bill of $55 NZD (¥5,000). That was for 2 mushrooms, 1 tiny but delish lamb chip and 5 gyoza. The other 3 eateries we entered prior, smelled really bad, had many smokers inside (which we were happy to put up with for a great experience), and the same menu. All 4 establishments dotted across the street were owned by the same japanese man. I would recommend the yokocho (near Shinjuku Station, and Golden Gai.)
John W — Google review
Fun place to visit. There are 6 alleys of bars you can stand/eat at and they all stay open late. Takes a few minutes to find an open spot and get comfortable but once you do you’ll have a blast.

Tokyo’s off the beaten path nightlife area with ton of standing bars and yakitoris. Stay away from som tourist traps but instead head for the small bars

(Translated by Google) I went to Kichijoji Harmonica Yokocho! ️ It was late at 9pm on a weekday, so the shopping street was closed😭 There were only a few bars open, so it might be best to go during the day. I just passed by, but it's small 💦 It looks like an old shopping street that has not been rezoned. All of the shops have a retro feel, so I'd like to go there for lunch next time.

(Translated by Google) I stopped by after donating blood. A narrow alleyway that runs alongside the shopping district... I took a peek inside and, wow, it had a nostalgic Showa-era vibe. If I had the time, I'd definitely like to visit more places. I'll definitely come back next time!
Google review
Stumbling into here felt like walking straight into the heartbeat of Kichijōji. What started as “let’s just grab one drink” quickly turned into a full-blown izakaya crawl through lantern-lit alleys, each corner revealing another packed little bar or smoky grill. At one point, I found myself squeezed between a pair of salarymen passionately arguing about baseball & a couple of students trying to out-sing each other’s karaoke hits spilling out from the next stall. By the second bar, a friendly chef handed me a plate of sizzling yakitori & shouted “kanpai!” like we’d known each other for years. By the third, I was toasting highballs with complete strangers who insisted I try their favorite snack. It’s chaotic, cramped & completely alive...like Tokyo shrunk down to one buzzing alleyway. If you’re looking for polished, keep walking. But if you want a night where you can’t predict where you’ll end up...or who you’ll be drinking with...this place delivers in spades. Pro tip: don’t plan an early morning the next day. Trust me.

(Translated by Google) [The story of men's alley that started with taiyaki] ── Kichijoji Harmonica Alley, Sunday Afternoon Story Sunday afternoon at the north exit of Kichijoji Station. As soon as I started walking through the crowd, the atmosphere changed. Harmonica Alley is a world where you can step into a world just one step away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The remains of the Showa era, the intoxicating atmosphere, and the laughter of strangers. Among them, there were four men. One by one, they were sucked into the street. The eternal debate of “Where are we going?” "Standing bar? I want to sit down." "At least skewers..." “But it’s crowded.” “Let’s go a little deeper.” It's not like someone decides, and it's not like I'm at a loss. We all know that this "no-plan exploration" is the most fun. “Do you want to eat taiyaki?” Suddenly, that voice came out. I thought it was a joke, but no one laughed. In fact, that choice made me feel a little more relaxed as an adult. And where I headed was... 🐟Famous Taiyaki restaurant “Amane” This long-established store is located near the entrance to Harmonica Alley, and there is always a long line of people. That is "Amane". When I picked up the taiyaki wrapped in washi paper, it felt quite heavy. The red bean paste is made from Hokkaido red beans, and the skin is thin and fragrant, and the sweetness is packed right down to the tip of the tail. "There...!" "But this is dangerous." "It's delicious." "Taiyaki at this time is the right choice." It's not a skewer. Not even beer. An afternoon of taiyaki with four guys. A little bit of sweetness and tranquility blended into the atmosphere of the alley. The time stopped one step short of afternoon The taiyaki goes into your stomach in no time. However, time strangely did not move forward. Not drinking, not rushing to the next thing, There was a time "in between" that was different from the hustle and bustle in front of the station. “In the end, this is what I remember the most.” Those words just leaked out of someone's mouth. A day where there are no correct answers but “blank spaces” I didn't have any plans for this day, but The sweetness, the laughter, and the slight smell of smoke remain in my memory. Another time, on my way home. “Amane, are you coming over?” If someone said that, I'm sure everyone would laugh. Inokashira Park Zoo is a family-friendly destination in Tokyo, Japan. It features interactive experiences where visitors can touch and hold small animals. The zoo is divided into two sections: one dedicated to breeding and releasing mandarin ducks into the wild, along with other indigenous animals like red-crowned cranes, Amur cats, rhesus monkeys, and Yaku deer; the other section houses various species including tropical birds.
Great zoo with so much to see and do, would recommend at least 2-3 hours to fully experience and enjoy it. They also have a cafe and small shop, and the cherry trees were starting to bloom. You also get entry to the aquatic park with the one ticket which is nice.

This zoo is great! There is a lot to see and do with the sculpture garden and history museum areas as well as a number of areas with animals. What I like about this one is it was very open and animals weren't squished into tiny pens like we have seen before (at Ueno Zoo for example). There is also a second area across the bridge to see the water birds and to walk through more of the area. It's very beautiful and nice for a relaxing day wandering around.

Lovely local zoo with both land and aquatic sections. Squirrel habitat is adorable! We spent a couple of hours there enjoying both sides of the zoo, and it's an easy walk to the Ghibli Museum.

Beautiful little park and zoo. Like an oasis in the middle of the city. Not Tokyo. But Kichijoji. More like a town vibe. There are two parts to the zoo on either side of the road. They even have some larger mammals like an elephant. Although I haven’t seen the elephant. But most animals are badgers or squirrels. Very cute. You can enter the squirrel cage and absence them closely.

I can't stress enough how beautiful this park is during cherry blossoms season late March and early April, I came during early April 2022, and the flowers were beginning wilt and were falling off. I recommend in late March. The experience was once in a life time especially for those not coming back to Japan anytime soon. One of the most memorable experiences in Japan.

Very cool Shinto Shrine near Kichijoji station. There are also some smaller shrines here too. This place is easy to find and on a busy city street. Not sure about parking. Check it out if you’re in the neighborhood.

Medium sized Shinto Shrine, supporting some of the local Kichioji matsuris, like the Kichijoji Aki Matsuri in September. It has its own medium sized mikoshi, and during the matsuris, a number of food yatais and children's game booths, but can become quite crowded as there is just the one walking path which goes to the shrine. Unfortunately, during the matsuris, it seems the office for goshuin stamps is closed.

Café Zenon is a unique and popular spot that seamlessly combines a daytime café with a lively grill bar in the evenings. The café prides itself on its creative approach to latte art, featuring whimsical designs such as Totoro, Kiki's cat Jiji, giraffes, birds, and classic hearts. The establishment also showcases original artworks from local artists and manga art while offering an array of manga to read and merchandise for sale.
Cafe Zenon had a very interesting interior decorated with various anime memorabilia and even a life size statue of Kenshiro of Fish of the Northstar fame standing by their entrance. Staff seemed to be under a bit of pressure by the rush of people that kept flowing into the cafe however the seating areas (two floors for patrons and a seperate smoking room) were very comfortable and they offer bins which you may place your belongings. Popular with the young and trendy people of the equally trendy area just steps away from Kichijouji station, this cafe has a wide variety of drink items including alcohic beverages are on their menu as are various desserts and brunch items available as well. Would definately come return to study some Japanese at this fun cafe.

Very nice interior to the spacious and modern restaurant space. The menu didn’t seem to have many options that didn’t include meat so we checked with the server. Told them I’m a vegetarian and that I’d like dishes without any meat. Was told that the only item on the mains menu which didn’t include any meat was a root vegetable salad. The other options were side dishes so I picked the salad. Dish was brought out with a soup and some bread. Put my spoon into the soup to check what it was and saw large pieces of sliced ham. Called the server over and had this conversation. “I asked for a dish without meat, I’m a vegetarian and this soup has meat in it” “yes, it’s meat can you not eat meat?” The salad was tasty enough but felt deeply frustrated at specifically asking for food without meat and being served ham. One of the most famous cafes in Kichijoji. It’s spacious enough so that you won’t have to wait for long, unlike other cafes in the area. I ordered a cake set for about 1,000yen, which was alright. They have a rule that you can only stay there for 2hours.
Juri R — Google review
Food and environment was mid, service was not good at all. The prices are all very high (ended up paying around 2000 yen for a ketchup pasta dish, which was really not worth it). There's a charge of 330 yen for sitting inside or ordering after 8 or something, I didn't understand what the server said in Japanese. The worst part is that they did not let me put my food in a to-go container even though I brought my own container!! That might be a common ish thing in Japan that sounds dumb to me as a foreigner. But at that point, I was already annoyed with the place so I just paid and went.

Cozy atmosphere, tasty coffee and the pudding is definitely a must-try!
A — Google review
The decor is cool and it’s pretty spacious. Some of the food is great and some of it’s pretty mediocre and overpriced. The service is quite bad, you’re seriously only going to have ONE server for the whole restaurant? Also, there’s no point having a segregated area for smoking when it’s just a short wall and no ceiling with complete ineffective ventilation. I was seated next to the smoking section and had to move.
Sophie — Google review
I read a lot of reviews about this restaurant. The foods are disappointing. Not like newly cooked. Taste is not good. Service here isn’t efficient. Not good at table management. Staff isn’t friendly. The decoration isn’t that great. I thought it would have been more Manga theme.

Chill place to have lunch. Nice selection of wines for lunch 500-600 yen. Kid friendly. Spacious. Not packed. Lunch set is rather bland for the price

Kichijoji Parco is a spacious and modern shopping mall in Tokyo's Kichijoji area. Its unique facade resembles an art gallery, and it hosts pop-up shops to showcase local talent. The surrounding area offers a wide variety of stores, making it a great destination for fashion and food enthusiasts. Additionally, the mall features BBQ Days, offering affordable barbecue options in a spacious setting that is also kid-friendly.
Very lively, lots of people, lots of shops. There are many shops selling food like ramen, fried snacks, liquor and food to match. One interesting shop is a jewellery shop where one can order made to measurement rings.

The Seibu line primarily serves residential areas, while the vicinity of the station offers a variety of shopping centers.
Not very buzy and small town. As everywhere you can find family mart 7 elevens and lots of restaurants as well. Station is in the middle of town with amazing natural decorations

To is station is really helpful for my family and I because when we need to get to ASIJ by train, we go to this station to transfer for the Seibu Tamagawa line and it is really helpful for my family and I to get there. This station is also really clean and big. I also think the staff here are really really nice because they help you get to where you need to be and they can tell you where to go and what direction is going where, which is helpful for some people. I like this station.
Lucas 比 — Google review
I don't use this station often, but every time I do it seems I wind up at an entrance where you can't buy a ticket with cash. Long story how I lost a bunch of money from one of their fancy electronic cards, but I only use cash now for the trains. Having to detour to get to a usable entrance qualifies as three stars. Or lower. After that I went to a different entrance and nearly bought the wrong ticket for a different train line. I'm letting the three stars stand, but now I feel extremely generous towards this station. Monopoly mentality side effect? Second time today I've felt more like a victim than a customer.

Theme park
Kichijōji Petit Mura, located just a short walk from the Ghibli Museum, is a charming complex of whimsical buildings adorned with colorful vines and unique shapes. The fairy-tale-like architecture houses various cafes, art galleries, and shops with a feline theme. Cat-shaped water fountains and windows offer glimpses into the Temari No Oshiro cat cafe, evoking scenes from The Cat Returns.
Very cute cats, though they were probably a little burned out from all the attention, I think it's normal for a cat cafe. The workers seemed to take a lot of care making sure of the cats safety. We ordered french fries (the dips came to make it the shape of a paw print!) and iced drinks. The food was pretty good, nothing remarkable but we didn't come for the food. There is no limit on how long you can stay but I think I probably stayed too long and wore out my welcome. One of the staff looked at me and my friend and then very pointedly checked her watch, which we took as a sign that we should probably leave. I think that's fair, we were there for a really long time. (Sorry!) For other foreigners, be aware that there are no chairs, you need to sit on a pad on the floor. (Which is fine, but for those who aren't comfortable with it this is just a heads up.)
Alex S — Google review
This place was made on a small plot of land, which is made for regular houses/shops, so the place wasn't too big. However, this is a whimsical place to stop at, which is great if you are coming from the nearby ghibli museum. There are a few shops there that sell accessories, jewelry, and two cafes : one normal cafe and a cat cafe. Some of the accessories are expensive, but definitely one of a kind. I did not enter the cat cafe, but the normal cafe was enjoyable. it was a cafe price, so it was about $20/pax, and the servings were not big, but the food was quite tasty. Great for people who want a quick lunch before heading off to their next location.
Jamie T — Google review
very cute , there are warnings for the cats which are a little less friendly and informative sheet telling you which cats are allowed each treats. for only ¥200 you can get a tub of treats (*^ω^*) the cats on the second floor seem to prefer quiet and they will often hide away up there so it’s best to stay downstairs if you enjoy the energetic cats. the mochi mochi catdog was delicious and very unique !
86D — Google review
Fantastic experience at the outdoor café with a cider drink and “wobbly” jelly that make a perfect combination. The service was very attentive and special, and the setting was beautiful. Inside the “park”, we were captivated by the imagination of those who designed the buildings and the outdoor space. However, it’s worth noting that in the indoor café, there was no care for the customers, and the approach was rather rude.
Diogo — Google review
We explored Kichijõji on our first day in Tokyo. Being so warm still it was lovely to have a space to relax, not feel rushed and enjoy all the cat company. The little stores in the complex were great! Lots of support for small business. If you’re a cat person, it’s a must. So obvious the staff care about the cats, we enjoyed it and it didn’t feel forced.
Janet P — Google review
The place is not a theme park. It's a small courtyard with a few small shops and a cat cafe. The cat cafe is OK, but feels a bit underwhelming. When I visited it wasn't crowded, but I don't feel the cats were in good spirits. They are old and quiet, and probably don't enjoy living in a cat cafe. The attendant doesn't speak English well, and the guidance on payment is confusing. While you need to call the attendant to give you a payment slip, you have to pay at the door via self service. While it isn't obvious, you can pay the fee by mobile pay or credit cards. When I visited there was no line since it's a rainy weekday aftery. I walked in without a reservation, and spent 30 minutes there. I don't feel like coming back. Not sure why, but the cat cafe feels a bit depressing, maybe because the cats don't look particularly happy. Or, you just want to spend some time in a cozy quiet place with some cat, but they make you read a book of a ton of rules before you are allowed to do so. (I get it, some people don't know how to deal with cats so it's for safety, but the process feels a bit intrusive.) If you have to reserve or wait in line to visit, I don't think it's worth it.
Ning Y — Google review
Very cute atmosphere. You get 2 levels of cats. We came in the afternoon and half of the cats were asleep. A few of them had very cute outfits.

Library
Musashino Place is a modern public library with separate floors offering various functions. It features bookable rooms, an audio recording room for children and teens, a cafe, and diverse types of media, making it suitable for everyone. While it may be livelier than traditional libraries, it provides an excellent study environment for all ages. The collection is primarily focused on books about Japan but offers limited English resources. Despite this, obtaining a library card here grants access to other libraries.
One of my favorite places! And an invaluable resource. Kind, helpful staff, pleasant places to read and study, and a lofty, airy bright environment overall. Just FYI — If you have a Musashino-shi library card, you can reserve books online and have them delivered to any of the three branches. Musashino Place is near my workplace so I pick up and drop off here. I’ve attended lecture series here, enjoyed foreign magazines here, studied and read here… and I’m still getting to know the place. Definitely check it out if you live nearby.

A library with impressive architecture, many glass windows. There is many books for children, also a small cafe in 1F.
Thang V — Google review
I came here to study using my computer, but it was difficult to find out where I could do that. Here's the information I wish I knew before I came: - The B1F library has desks, but the signs say you're not allowed to use PCs (and you're not supposed to use your own materials, it's meant for reading the library books). The staff check the spaces quite often and also remove belongings if you're away from your seat too long. - The 1F cafe is a good place to study if you're ok with noise levels, and you need to buy something. - The study corner (スタディコーナー) on 3F is only for people with Musashino City library cards. I'm not a resident (I live in Shinjuku) so I'm not able to use it. - The working desks (ワーキングデスク) on 4F are reservable in 4 hour slots, morning/afternoon/evening. You DON'T need to be a Musashino City resident, but you do need to apply for a card at the counter on 3F which allows you to book a desk using the terminal next to the counter. It's 400 yen for 4 hours which is ok. The desks have good natural light and power (not USB though) Overall it's a lovely place but it's made a lot more difficult by the strict rules in place, and it was hard to tell whether you're allowed to do anything as a non resident!
Stella D — Google review
clean, cool, and stylish library building having cafe, workspace, and study desk, however a little bit difficult to look for the books even if researched on the web.

Came here to study today and it was great! There are many floors with different purposes and even a ping pong table, foosball, rock wall, and dance studio on basement floor. Cafe looked really nice and this was a perfect study spot! Very accessible too. The architecture here is sooooo beautiful!!

The library is stunning. Separate floors with different functions. Rooms can be booked, an audio recording room for children and teens, a cafe, a lot of different types of media. It’s definitely a place for everyone. If you are a booklover or interested in libraries or architecture then I“d definitely recommend a visit. It is a modern public library which means it can be louder (especially in the cafe, children’s and teens floor) but a public library is not supposed to be dead quiet

Very convenient amenities and less than 100 meters from the station. Only downside is it has no sockets available for charging. You have to buy something at the in-house cafe to sit on the counters where the sockets are. Otherwise, great place for free wifi connectivity and for studying.

Jindaiji Temple, a historic Buddhist temple founded in 733 and rebuilt in 1919, is one of Tokyo's oldest temples. Nestled in the serene surroundings of Chofu City, it features several temple buildings surrounded by lush gardens and thriving trees. The area around the temple is filled with the sound of clear-water streams and traditional Japanese-style food stalls, eateries, and shops.
I came to area to visit temple and look at flowers in the botanical garden. I went on Monday which was a poor idea as the botanical garden rests on Monday. But for the temple, it was fully open with lots to see. In the back was shrine with ceremonies commencing, lots of flowers and trees were in full bloom, and the entrance to the temple was filled with lots of stores selling tasty snacks like shaved ice, and fried mochi. The temple was quite nice and quiet, a great place to relax and enjoy nature. Next time I will have to visit on a Tuesday or Thursday in order to visit the garden. Next time

This temple is not only a place for devotion . It also have some green parts all around the temple complex which is great from end of April. You can sit down on a bench near a carved Buddha on a rock, dwelling on a cave where believers comes to address some prayers. There is also a botanical park nearby which I not yet been. My main interest was to see around the remain of a Uesugi fortress nearby which I fail as it was late and too crowded. You can go there by bicycle from Kichijoji or Mitaka station BTW if you can and also by bus, a 20-30 min ride. There is also a lot soba (buckwheat noodles) restaurant with long lines if you happen to be there on a sunny day during Golden week in early May. I guess it’s one delicacy as it seems very popular. This place is worth seeing if you are looking for something that looks like traditional and historical.

Nestled in Koganei city, Western Tokyo, the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is a sprawling open-air historical theme park showcasing a diverse collection of Japanese structures from various periods. This museum serves as a preservation site for old buildings of cultural significance that could not be maintained in their original locations due to fires and air raids since the Edo period.
Really unique experience to see so many types of homes and shops over the ages, especially if you're interested in historical architecture. It's like going back in time or going to a movie set, but one you can kinda smell. Strongly recommend you bring/wear sandals or flip flops, as most homes require you to take off your shoes. Fair and tolerable weather preferred sinces it's quite outdoor. No need to make this a part of your whirlwind three days in Tokyo, but if you are here for a while, it's worth checking out. Tickets online or in person - super affordable, no wait, never too busy. Easy to get to and from by bus from the station.

Very informative experience. My wife who is an architect loved our trip here even though it was far from where we are staying in Tokyo. I am not sure if these are replicas or relocated reconstructions because the quality is insane if it is replicas. We spent 3 hours exploring and would have probably done more if we had the time.

This was probably one of my most favorite things in Tokyo. The museum was so fascinating and there was a ton of information about each building available in English. We learned so much about the Edo period and the various types of buildings in Japan at that time. The space for the museum is also beautiful. The museum itself is a bit far away from the main Tokyo city center but well worth the subway ride and it was a really lovely break from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.
Mandy C — Google review
Really lovely place to visit, would definitely recommend. We went on a tea ceremony event day, however all the same-day tickets were sold out by the time we got there, and you couldn't do advance reservation for the english speaking ones. Despite that, it was still a nice place to wander and learn about historic architecture. I walk past this museum a lot, so I'm glad I finally got to go inside! There are places in the museum serving food, which is helpful, but although they are good, I would reccomend eating beforehand, as they are very expensive...

Musashino Central Park, located in the north of Musashino City, is a spacious park that offers various recreational activities for children and adults alike. Went here for the first time and I think it was a great park! Nearby the entrance there is a bus stop to Kichijoji and Mitaka station.

this park is very huge flat land, formerly was an airstrip used by US during occupation period. hardly to find a piece of flat surface carpeted by lushly green grass, at far end corner has 2 base ball grounds, kids and families cheerfully play there in every weekend. Also, groups of people like to fly kites and paper planes. an informal running trail surrounding the grass field, which mostly covered by tree shadow, it feels comfortable to run a few laps. surely this park is a sources offering healthy good life. please, fine to enjoy it.
King L — Google review
This is a quite large park in northern Musashino City. On the edges of the park there are some trees and picnic tables which are great for taking a break sometime during the day. The center of the park is a large open field where people might play soccer or throw a frisbee or run around. Because there is so much open space without trees, this park is ideal in the spring and fall or on cool summer days. During the very hot summer months, you have to think carefully about getting enough sun protection if you're going to hang out here. There is no convenient nearby parking, so this park is ideal for people within walking or bicycle distance, and less desirable if you live farther away.

It was a small exhibition that only took about an hour to see the whole thing, but I was incredibly satisfied. There's something special about the joy I feel when I come across something like this.

I became a fan of Kitada after seeing his illustrations for "The Color of the Car is the Color of the Sky," but this was my first time seeing his original artwork. I was so engrossed in the exhibition that I stayed for about 90 minutes, even though there weren't many works. I highly recommend this exhibition. Kōsenji Temple is one of the four temples in Kichijoji, forming a temple town that offers a serene and contemplative experience. Founded by Kanyo in 1662, it is also known as Shigenji Temple. This Jodo sect temple houses a statue of Amida Nyorai and is just a short walk from Kichijoji Station.
A must-see beautiful landmark to check out when visiting Tokyo ! They have some amazing, well-looked after gardens kept aesthetically neat and tidy.. it costs ¥500 to enter on the door however it was well worth it! So much wildlife and nature to soak in like the ponds with koi fish & lotus flowers, bees, butterflies, dragonflies, bonsai trees and lots more to see! A wonderful place to take photos and scenic views for a walk around all the gardens. At the temple you must wash your face & hands to enter with clean hygiene before heading to the front of the main temple and showing your respect with 2 bows, 2 claps and another bow. They also have a lovely variety of different charms that all signify different meanings. I personally purchased two gift charms one red symbolising good luck and the yellow meaning good fortune. Again, for anyone visiting the city this is a top recommendation to check out and spend time at. Great energy & a spiritually pleasant atmosphere! ⭐️🪷☯️ zen mode activated

It is one of the four Kichijoji temples along the Itsukaichi Road, and among the Jodo sect temples, Kosenji is the only one whose principal image is Amida Nyorai. It is said that it was founded by Kanyo (Jaku in 1662, 2nd year of Kanbun), and the people living in front of the Edo Kichijoji gate were burnt out by the great fire of Meireki, so he moved to this Musashino area and built Kichijoji Village. It was around the time the village opened. Inokashira-kōen Station is a gateway to the beautiful Inokashira Park in western Tokyo. The park features stunning trees, row boats, and swan-shaped pedal boats on its large pond. Visitors can also explore woodsy paths and visit the serene Inokashira Benzaiten shrine. Nearby, there are shops offering grilled chicken skewers or you can pack a picnic for a trip to Kasai Rinkai Park for birdlife, an aquarium, and relaxation.
No blossom in winter, little bit freezing. However, its quite and peaceful.

Former Marquis Maeda Teahouse, located in Komaba Park, is the former main residence of the Maeda family, who were feudal lords of Kaga. The Japanese-style house was constructed to showcase Japanese culture to foreigners and was designed by prominent Japanese architects. It offers free guided tours and provides a serene atmosphere with snow-covered gardens. Visitors can explore this historical site and appreciate its traditional architecture amidst nature's beauty.

British aristocrat country side style mansion with a Japanese style house as well. Plan for about 45 mins. There is an elevator for making the place accessible. If you have seen western palaces castles or be the like and are short on time you could give it a miss. Very well maintained property and an important part of Japanese history.

Two historical buildings in a medium-sized park, one in Japanese style, the other faux-European. I prefer the Japanese one. It has a beautiful garden and a fantastic minimalist layout. The house of the Marquis is too stiff for my taste. You'll also find the Museum of Modern Japanese literature in the park, so all in all, it is not a bad place to spend a few hours.

(Translated by Google) A Japanese space enveloped in tranquility and elegance. The Japanese-style building of the former Maeda family residence is a magnificent space that harmonizes the beauty of the formal Sukiya-style building with the garden scenery of the four seasons. The view of the garden from the tatami-floored large hall and the shoji screens makes you feel as if you have traveled back in time to the early Showa period. There is also a Western-style chandelier inside the room, so you can enjoy a mix of Japanese and Western designs. 🔍 Points of interest: ・The beauty of the natural light reflected on the polished floor ・The calm atmosphere of the courtyard with its bamboo fences and lanterns ・The detailed design of the pillars and fittings is the pinnacle of craftsmanship ・The contrast with the Western-style building gives you a sense of the breadth of architectural culture ・The pond garden where you can enjoy the flow of water 📸 There are many photo spots, and the quiet time that passes will calm your mind. Gessōji Temple, also known as Toganji, is a significant temple in Kichijoji and one of the four Kichijoji temples. It was established in 1659 and has historical significance dating back to before the founding of Kichijoji Village. The temple's name is derived from the Buddhist name of Tenkyo-in Getsou Myosei Dai-nee.
This is a prominent temple located in Kichijoji, right in the heart of Sun Road, making it very easy to locate. The temple stands out due to its size and the distinctive architectural style, which blends traditional Japanese elements with the surrounding urban landscape. During festival days, the area around the temple becomes exceptionally lively, with a multitude of stalls, performances, and local activities that attract both locals and visitors. The vibrant atmosphere and the sheer number of people add to the excitement, making it a must-see experience if you happen to be in the area during these events. The temple itself is a peaceful retreat from the busy streets, offering a moment of tranquility amidst the urban hustle.

This park is beautiful during the autumn season. You can really see the foliage change and spend 30 minutes or more just being at awe. There are not many benches to sit down or grass to lie down so it is a bit difficult to get comfortable. With that said, there is a nice spot you can sit on some steps and enjoy the nature it brings. Nijijijijijjiiiii. If you're doing a mini gallery tour around the area, don't miss this one! A lot of my favorite creators have little works and trinkets for sale on the first floor, and there's a mini-gallery here as well (these pictures are from the downstairs space). Upstairs is surprisingly spacious for this area, so some artists can really go wild and display larger paintings and prints. But yeah, I browsed the really good selection of stuff on the 1st floor, including zines by Sakura Tamagawa and Yuichi Yokoyama, then skeedaddled up the staircase to check out whatever the heck was happening up on floor number 2. The music in here is super relaxing-- I wanna say some kind of jazz, but there's only 1 clarinet that seldom toots and the rest is just a m b i e n c e . Kinda like that. (Translated by Google) It is located in Sengawa Peace Park. This "Statue of Peace" was created based on the "Peace Memorial Statue" (erected in Nagasaki City) by the late Kitamura Seibo. It was erected in 1989. Mr. Kitamura was involved in creative activities in his studio in Inokashira Park adjacent to Mitaka City, and it seems that he had connections with elementary schools in Mitaka City. I happened to be passing by the park and stopped by, and it was great to have the opportunity to stand in front of the statue with my child and talk about peace. By the way, this "Sengawa Peace Park" was originally called "Sengawa Park," but was renamed in 2020 to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the war. Nestled in the western part of Musashino City, the Musashino Municipal Musashino Furusato History Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the local history of this area. The amount of information begins to increase around the time of the Meireki Fire of 1657 during the Edo period, and stories appear such as the relocation of Kichijoji, which was located in the heart of Edo, the reclamation of new farmland, and the opening of the Tama River Canal. What sets it apart from other municipalities is the modern and contemporary section, which features Nakajima Aircraft Company (famous for developing military aircraft), which had a factory near Musashino City. While the company contributed to the local economy, it was also a target of air raids, making the war a more personal experience. The Site of Kunikida Doppo’s Residence, also known as the Kunikida Doppo Residence Ruins, is located near JR Shibuya Station. It was the landscape of Musashino during the Meiji era and is mentioned in Doppo Kunikida's work 'Musashino.' After his marriage ended, Kunikida moved to this area and took walks through the woods of Musashino for reflection.

I then took a walk through the woods of Musashino and reflected on life. The masterpiece ``Musashino'' beautifully depicts the ancient nature of western Tokyo and the Tama area. To the north of Musashi-Sakai Station is the ``Doppo Forest,'' and there is a literary monument at the north exit of Mitaka Station. Travelogue (written by Rico) Doppo Kunikida's marriage to Nobuko Sasaki broke down and he moved to the then lonely village of Shibuya. In a surprising episode, Nobuko Sasaki fell in love with a sailor on a ship heading to a foreign country where her new partner was waiting, and she returned to Japan. This story also served as the model for Arishima Takeo's ``A Certain Woman.'' I got the impression that she was a free and passionate woman, and at the same time, I wanted to read ``Musashino'' by Doppo Kunikida, who was married to her, and ``A Certain Woman'', which was based on her. At that time, this area was rich in nature with streams and forests, and it is said that Doppo Kunikida wrote masterpieces such as the famous ``Musashino'' based on the life and scenery here. The 226 Incident Memorial Monument is also nearby. The NTT History Center of Technologies is located in the prosperous area of Kichijoji, which has a rich history dating back to the Edo Period. The museum features a large collection of exhibits spanning from the basement to the 3rd floor, showcasing the history of Japanese communication technology through technical materials and actual equipment. Visitors can enjoy hands-on experiences and explore specialized displays, making it an engaging experience for both children and adults with expertise in the field.
This is an amazing museum. Free admission and you can get up close with all kinds of switch gear and computers spread out over four floors. The quality of the exhibits is really good, you would need to have some background knowledge in telecommunications to get most out of it though as there isn't too much information for each exhibit. On the ground floor there is a small hand-on area explaining the evolution of telephone switching. The retired NTT staff that volunteers here are very friendly and knowledgeable. This museum is must visit for anyone interested in technology, don't let the location, which is a bit far from central Tokyo hold you back, it is worth the travel.

The Musashino Public Hall, although an antiquated venue, boasts easily visible seating arrangements that provide comfort for extended periods. Regrettably, the aging restroom facilities and slightly steep staircases are drawbacks. However, its advantageous proximity to the station ensures convenient accessibility without hesitation. Overall, attendees can enjoy a sense of unity within the cozy ambiance of this live performance hall, where performers closely engage with their audience. The lighting setup enhances the experience and allows for capturing memorable moments through photography.

(Translated by Google) November 17, 2024 Musashino Public Hall appears to be undergoing renovation work once again. Renovation work was carried out for about a month in February 2017, but this time it looks like it will be a fairly long-term renovation work of more than a year, including additions. I am a member of the Tokyo Walking Association (TWA). I'm walking around town at TWA's regular meeting. At that time, I was taking pictures of places I thought were nice with my smartphone, and I decided to post them on Google Maps as well. When I visited a nostalgic place for the first time in a while, I found that it had changed! , there is a fresh impression on me. I hope that I can share this feeling with you all. (Translated by Google) It is very close, about a 5-minute walk from Kichijoji Station towards Inokashira Park. The facility opened in January 1964 and is quite old. Therefore, the renovation work will be carried out from March 2026 to October 2027. Since it will be about a year and a half, the main work will be earthquake resistance and fire prevention equipment, toilet renovation (the smell from the drainage pipes is a concern), and interior renovation of the stage, seats, air conditioning, etc. Considering the location and environment, a hall of the same size as the large hall of Musashino Civic Cultural Center (25 minutes walk from the station, 10 minutes by bus) with 1600 to 1800 seats would be good, but unfortunately it is not possible due to the site area. A small hall with 350 seats with a strong Showa-era feel. As it is old, the seats are narrow. Fortunately, the space in front and behind is not too narrow, but it is difficult for people already seated to pass by unless they stand up. It is not as narrow as Fujisawa Civic Hall (a hall where it is extremely difficult to listen). There are also balcony seats on the left and right, but if you sit on the aisle side (wall side), you have an obstructed view of the stage. As for the acoustics, there is almost no reverberation, and it feels like only the sounds of the instruments reach your ears. When it rains, you can hear the rain hitting the stage quite loudly. If there is thunder, you will probably hear it that way. It would be nice if the hall was transformed into something at least like the Musashino Civic Cultural Center Small Hall after renovation... Sekimae Park may be small in size, but it offers a grand experience with its pond, water canals, and walking paths. The park is especially charming during spring when cherry blossoms bloom. It's a perfect spot for summer fun with shallow waterfront areas and even a waterfall to cool off under. However, be prepared for mosquitoes in the summer months. Families will appreciate the biotope, pond, and sheltered areas for rainy days.
This is a great little park. There's a small artificial stream that's good for kids to play in in the hot summer. Atop the small hill sits a covered bench area, which is perfect for hanging out outdoors when it's raining. There are public restrooms, too. If you live nearby, this place is marvelous.

Art Gallery Enogu Bako offers a refreshing and informal atmosphere, creating a comfortable distance between the art and its viewers. The gallery features two rooms that can be utilized to alter the exhibition's ambiance or serve as sales spaces. Various lighting options allow for dramatic shifts in color tones. Located on a mezzanine floor, it exudes a cozy vibe with hand-drawn POP art on the stairs, making it inviting despite its less conspicuous position.
(Translated by Google) It's a gallery that doesn't feel formal and has a good sense of distance between the paintings and the people. The gallery has two rooms, so you can use the two spaces as you wish, such as changing the atmosphere of the exhibition or using one as a sales booth. There are several types of lighting, and the color tone changes dramatically depending on the combination. As a result, I had more options for directing my work and was able to create a space that was better than I had imagined. Recommended not only for two-dimensional works but also for three-dimensional works.
