Ski & Snowboard Areas
Hakuba Happo-One Snow Resort, a renowned ski area and former site of the 1998 Winter Olympics, offers diverse trails for skiers of all levels and international dining options. Nestled in the Wadano Woods area of Hakuba, it is conveniently located just a short walk from Happo-One, one of the largest mountains in the region. The resort's proximity to various restaurants allows for easy access to delectable cuisines.
This stunning resort is surely my favourite in the whole valley. It's hugely popular, however it never felt 'crowded' on the slopes or at the lifts. It does have many beginner-friendly options, but is my favourite resort for intermediate-advanced runs. If you're lucky enough to get clear weather, taking the lifts to the very top of Happo-One rewards you with what must be the best views in the whole valley. I can hardly put into words the spectacle up there, and you are challenged with an advanced course on descent. Incredible resort. I'd ski here all the time if I could.
Thomas A — Google review
The summer hike to the pond is amazing! View, fresh mountain air and lovely temp! Highly recommend the 3 cable cars and gondola to hike. However, the pond is still frozen though in June. Do prepare w rainy weather outfit!
Lee I — Google review
Spent a few unforgettable days skiing at Hakuba and honestly, it exceeded all my expectations. The snow was perfect—powdery, fresh, and consistent every day I was there. The resort itself was super well-maintained, and the service was top-tier. Everyone was so helpful and welcoming, from the lift operators to the shuttle drivers.
Hannah — Google review
Beautiful experience. We aimed to go to Happo ike but the weather was harsh and the last part of the 🚠 was closed. It was the last weekend of the season, so next year we'll try again 😉
Manuela K — Google review
Decided to come here during the summer instead of winter to avoid crowd rush and it was worth every penny. We had a lovely and relaxing time away from the summer heat with amazing views. The staffs are ofcourse awesome as usual!
Neo I — Google review
A great spot for skiing and snowboarding during the winter. In the green season, it’s also perfect for hiking, with a completely different atmosphere. The scenery here is spectacular. As a tourist not here for skiing, I found the snow quite thick and a bit hard to walk through, but the views made it worth it. (Visited on 19 April 2025)
NNchan — Google review
Best resort in Nagano area for advanced skiers. However the grooming is insufficient, when there is no new snow they should groom all pists and fix the moguls. When there is new snow they don't groom the pists at all, which is good but maybe a few runs could still be groomed? Gondola is rather efficient, if there is a long queue try the long sit lift at the very south/left of the resort which is very fast and not very occupied. However most of the lifts are outdated and not very interconnected, which causes you to easily get a bit stuck with a need to walk. They don't have singles queues so lifts are operating far from full potential, which makes the runs less crowded. Lockers available, food trucks for lunch at the bottom of the south/left runs.
Carl-Johan W — Google review
They had a lot of snow . Nice to have an option for the gondola . Slopes are steep and narrow. Few restaurants options. Very close to rental sites. No problem if you don’t speak Japanese ( English everywhere) . Lifts with rental around $100

Day-use onsen

Super public bath
Hakuba Happo Onsen Obinata no yu is a charming onsen located within the Hakuba Highland Hotel, offering a serene and natural setting for visitors to enjoy. The onsen's hot spring water, which originates from the Himekawa River nearby, is known for its gentle and slightly alkaline properties that are beneficial to the skin. Guests can bask in the romantic and spacious outdoor setup while immersing themselves in the rejuvenating waters.
Very relaxing place to go especially after a full day of snowboarding or skiing. The atmosphere is very calming and majestical. I think the booking of 1hr was enough just bc your skin starts to become wrinkly. I think this would have to one the best onsens around hakuba. Especially if you like the openness with mountain views.
Mia S — Google review
We booked an 1 hour session and it went quick so I'd recommend 2 hours. The private spa that we had only had one shower assembly but it sprayed water everywhere so it was difficult to wash. The spa next door had alot of people chatting away so it was less peaceful in that sense. You could take whatever drinks you want from their fridge and then pay after. The water was nice and warm and the view of the mountain was incredible.
Bryn D — Google review
My first onsen experience and it was so beautiful. We didn’t realise you had to book but luckily showed up just as a group left and got straight in for an hour of bliss. There was no sauna, just the onsen and ice bath, but the onsen was so hot a sauna wasn’t needed. Warm sake to seal the deal and then a walk back to town through the quiet streets. Perfection. Bring your own towels.
Elise R — Google review
Stopped by this hot spring after a summer hike since it was the closest option. Noticed some people leaving after just seeing the facade, but I didn’t think much of it—I just wanted to freshen up before the drive home. Thats when I noticed the holes and gaps in the wall are as big as 1 yen coins. I took a closer look at one of the holes… and unexpectedly locked eyes with a man peeping from the other side. I’ll just say—enter at your own risk.
Lancel A — Google review
Beautiful spacious & most natural looking set up. Right under the sky ! It’s private booking for winter time. Water is very hot & you can rent out burning wood sauna for extra money. We enjoys everything. The only problem was that we arrived 15 min earlier for 12.30 booking & it was completely closed down. & considering it’s in the middle of the woods plz be aware. We had to wait over the bar up the street trying to reach them out. Unsuccessfully for 45 min. Strange unpunctuality for Japan. But we got in eventually & they added extra half for us to stay.
Irina Z — Google review
Enjoyed the outdoor experience here during a rainy day! But the faucet controls are old and don’t work well for washing up.
Bily X — Google review
Petite hotspring surrounded by nature. Bring your own towel if possible, otherwise you have to rent towel here (300 yen for both face towel and big towel)

The Hakuba Ski Jumping Stadium is a must-visit spot in Hakuba Village. The Red Soba Flower Festival held between September and October offers the perfect opportunity to capture the beauty of buckwheat flowers in bloom. These flowers eventually become buckwheat noodles, adding an interesting cultural aspect to the visit. The stadium holds historical significance as it was used for Olympic events in 1998, and visitors can still feel the Olympic spirit there.
Great value for money. We spent a fun hour roaming around and scaring ourselves looking down from the highest jump. And we caught the gold chair lift both ways so we must be very lucky!
BenandSarah L — Google review
Hakuba Ski Jumping Stadium, located in Hakuba, Japan, is a remarkable destination for both sports enthusiasts and history buffs. Constructed in the early 1990s, this venue gained international prominence during the 1998 Winter Olympics, hosting ski jumping and Nordic combined events. Visitors have the opportunity to ascend to the K-120 jump platform, which offers an awe-inspiring panoramic view of Hakuba and its surrounding landscapes. The vantage point from this outer observatory is truly breathtaking, providing a unique perspective of the area’s natural beauty. Beyond the stunning vistas, the stadium houses a variety of displays and exhibits that delve into Olympic history. These include informative videos detailing ski jumping techniques, showcases of racing suits, and collections of Olympic medals and memorabilia. A particularly engaging exhibit features colorful posters from each of the 22 Winter Olympic Games, offering a visual journey through the evolution of this global event. For those interested in experiencing the stadium firsthand, it’s conveniently located approximately a 15-minute walk from the center of Hakuba. The admission fee is modest, and the experience includes a chair lift ride and access to the observatory, making it both an educational and exhilarating excursion. In summary, Hakuba Ski Jumping Stadium offers a compelling blend of breathtaking views and rich Olympic history, making it a must-visit attraction for anyone traveling to the Nagano region.
Darsshan P — Google review
Beside being an impressive and historical sports venue (first gold medal in ski jumping for Japan), It's also a spot with a beautiful view. There's also a couple of galleries with memoribilia from The Nagano Olympics. Free parking on Site. You have to pay to get to the top by chair lift or stairs
Guillaume7372 — Google review
The time seems to stand still at this place. I guess nothing at all has changed here since 1998, which is kind of interesting, too. You can feel the Olympic spirit here. Would love to see some athletes using it. Unfortunately there was no snow during the time we have visited this place :( Definitely worth a visit.
Ralf B — Google review
Went here as it is a short walk from town. It’s been 24 years since this venue was used for an Olympic event, the Hakuba ski jump is still clean, modern and in active use. Standing on top of the jump tower, viewing the surrounding area , looking into the Hakuba valley is an unforgettable experience.

The famous place where the 1998 Winter Olympic took place for Ski Jump. A must place to visit in Hakuba.

Great fun in the summer and the winter. There is an FIS world Cup event hosted in he summer and National university competitions in the winter. There are also some historical Olympic items from the 1998 Nagano games.

Day-use onsen

Hakuba Happo Onsen is one of the six sources in Yunosato. It's a bit pricey at 850 yen for adults, but visitors can enjoy both indoor and outdoor baths. The facility may feel relatively new and small, with only one indoor and one outdoor bath available. Despite its size, the onsen offers excellent views of the mountains from the outdoor pool. Visitors can also purchase or rent towels if needed.
Totally relaxing once you get used to being nude around others. Water must have been 40 degrees plus. You can feel the minerals working on your sore muscles. Definitely helped me after skiing.
Andre H — Google review
Very pleasant experience. No lines everything quick and easy I got there on Thursday after skiing around 4pm not too crowded. I was alone in a hot spring for a while. Too bad that I have to bring my own towel for this price. This place is small but cosy and I think it was recently renovated because it’s seems clean and new. Nice experience watching sunset from hot spring ;)
Anna S — Google review
great place to hang out and relax your body after ski! It’s around 850¥ but my friends and I shared the bulk purchase so it works out around 600¥ each pass. Free shampoo but towels arent free to rent.
JT T — Google review
The place to go after an exiting day of skiing. Soak in your muscles and forget all pain :) The hot water will bring back the energy which you need for a good & heavy dinner. The place is well maintained and very clean. Try to avoid peak hours after the lifts are closed. It can be very busy between 4 and 6 pm. We came around 6 pm and the bath was nearly empty.
Ralf B — Google review
Pretty crowded. Suggest to go after 7pm. Pretty average. They have one outdoor onsen and indoors. They don't provide milk lotion etc like other onsen places would. The resting area is very big though
Charis — Google review
I highly recommend after a ski day ! They are closing at 9pm, I was there at 6pm, the place was full, but I came back around 8pm and the place was empty ! There is one bath inside and one bath outside. This place is really peaceful and relaxing.
Claire S — Google review
Excellent public onsen. Gorgeous mountain views from the outdoor onsen pool. There is also an indoor pool available The cost is 850 Yen. If you don't have a towel you can rent one or buy one for 250 Yen. There were only 5-10 people on Saturday 3pm. Not busy at all. Absolutely recommend 👌
Anastasia G — Google review
The place is newly renovated with clean and modern facilities even though it’s exterior looks traditional. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash and hair dryer is provided at no additional charge. Traditional onsen feel with one indoor bath and one routenburo. The water was perfect for the rainy weather. The indoor bath was 40.5°, while the routenburo was 41.5°. On a clear day, you can view the mountains from the indoor bath. They also have a small tatami resting area where you can order some snacks and drinks. ¥800 per entry. Towels are available for purchase at ¥250 (with happo no yu design) and ¥350 for rental set, consisting of one large towel and one onsen towel (face towel size).

Rhythm Japan Hakuba is a top choice for ski and snowboard equipment rental in Hakuba. The staff are praised for their helpfulness and knowledge, ensuring that customers are well-equipped and reassured before hitting the slopes. While some holiday workers may lack expertise, the overall service is efficient and friendly. Customers appreciate the convenience of shuttle pick-up/drop-off and gear collection from accommodations.
Great location, great customer service. Fast turn around on time ups. Clothing is pricey, rental prices comparable to others on the mountain. Good selection, knowledgeable honest staff.

I bought gloves here and after only one use they got completely destroyed. I had gloves before that served the same purpose (for the 1/3 of the price of those ones btw) from the same material (merino) so I know how they should behave. But those one got all ruffled. Very rude guy said that I've been using them wrong because they can be use only underneath, and when you are warm, you can't take off the main gloves and use only this one, because this guy said so :) so I'm left with gloves that looks completely worn out, and for 8000 yen...very disappointed by this situation and how it was handled by the staff (the rude guy)

2 Rhythm stores next to each other near Happo One. The retail store is small. The larger Rhythm with cafe is a further 5 min drive at Wadano. Great service from all staff as per usual.
Richard L — Google review
The great staff are great! The rest are clearly holiday workers with little idea of what’s going on. We were served quickly and efficiently though with a very friendly assistant. Shuttle pick up and drop off was very convenient and appreciated. They can also pick up your rentals from your accommodation once you’ve left. Don’t expect too much in terms of retail products. We couldn’t even get something as simple as ski socks. Rental gear is of good enough quality.
Graeme R — Google review
The best by far! I was extremely elated at the professionalism of a staff who dealt with my ski boots (my bad, wasn't able to catch his name but I extended my compliments for him to the management when I returned the gears) He was shy but so focused on the fitness of the boots. For him, boots are one of the basics to enjoy skiing. Very patient and down-to-earth staff indeed. True enough, I never had any discomfort on my toes/ legs or whatsoever after a day of skiing. Most of the rental shops I've tried would just hand you over the gears and not even try to ask about the comfort of their customers. Overall, this shop offered great service and friendliness big time no matter how busy they were. Absolutely great!
Joy L — Google review
Very quick & smooth experience here hiring premium skis, boots, poles, jacket & pants. I couldn't book online as it was within 48hrs but they kept the same prices as shown online, even gave a small discount thanks to a referral. There are reviews on other shops (Woody's & Spicey) that suggests they jack up the prices if you turn up without a booking so this was a relief. After check-in they do measurements. I had a quick discussion around foot width with a ginger fitting ninja and the second pair of boots I tried was actually more comfortable than my own! Nick helped out with my preferences for skis. Armada 194cm*108mm. Could have k2 enforcers which are excellent skis imo. The jacket & pants were good quality & warmer than I expected. And they refunded one day of hire out of three in cash because my stuff arrived earlier than expected. The coffee is also the best I've had in Hakuba.
Damian D — Google review
Great rental shop. I love my rental service there except a less experienced staff try to stick my children on old carvers when I order performance skis for powder skiing ....otherwise great ! Pickup n drop off on the house . Lots of ski clothing n accessories for sale. Very busy place; friendly staff

I have been using Rhythm for a fast and easy ski rental service the last three years. They have a wide selection of skis, snowboards and boots for all levels. Located a few minutes walk from the Happo slopes, they as well provide a free drop off service to your hotel. Nestled in the stunning landscape of the Northern Alps, Hakuba Alps Auto Campground offers a serene escape for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Just a short drive from Tsugaike Nature Garden, this campground is known for its natural charm and friendly atmosphere. With spacious pitches surrounded by fragrant trees, it's an ideal spot for BBQs or simply soaking in the breathtaking views. The nearby onsen adds to the experience, providing a perfect way to unwind after a day of adventure.
Nice place , good sized pitches , we went as day campers for having a BBQ and it worked out great, close to the river so you can cool off too , simple WC facilities but clean and a small shop onsite.
Gareth L — Google review
The location of this campground is excellent. The views of the shadowing mountains are stunning and the access to local stores is just a short bike ride away. In terms of the actual facilities, considering what they are charging, the toilet facilities are pretty poor as is the kitchen facilities. It is 円2500 per campsite and pets were permitted. We did have power which may have explained the higher expense in comparison to other campsites we have stayed at. There are no showers and for those choosing to wash in the river, brace for very cold water. Onsen is nearby if you prefer.
Mark E — Google review
This is a very basic, simple campground. There are charge points available and it is more natural than other facilities. The owner is very friendly and helped us find lost items. He drove back and forth helping us immensely! The location is beautiful, we were in section F, where the trees were very fragrant. My friend was so amazed by the smell. The onsen nearby is seriously good too, you have to try it while you stay here. This is a great spot for people who want to get away but need easy access, natural camping.
AC H — Google review
This campsite hasn’t improved since 5 years ago. People allow their dogs so bark all night and the grass is full of ticks and chiggers that go home with you on your tent. Steer clear of this place.

(Translated by Google) Currently closed. I went there two or three times, and the content was very fulfilling. Chagall's works are all wonderful and soul-cleansing works, and I'm glad to be able to see them in Hakuba. It's a place of relaxation where you can relax while relaxing at a nearby pension. However, recently, many of the souvenir shops in Echoland have closed, and the new shops that have opened are mostly restless bars and snow sports equipment stores catering to young people and foreigners. The gelato shop nearby has also disappeared... As someone who doesn't play sports and just wants to spend a quiet time in Hakuba, I feel uncomfortable and lonely. I hope it opens soon. Wadano Woods by Hakuba Hospitality Group offers modern wood-paneled chalets with fully equipped kitchens, living rooms, and washer/dryers. Guests can enjoy breakfast at Sounds Like Cafe or drive to the nearby Rabbit Hole in Wadano for a tasty selection. Yukimaru near Goryu is a great izakaya just minutes away, while Riki (Soba), Zen, and Denenshi are excellent choices for lunch.
Awesome chalet! Great for family groups. As depicted in pictures, modern facilities are all very clean, beds were comfortable and at a great location. Walking distance to restaurants, shops, and ski facilities, with ski gear, they have free shuttle vans that pick you up and drop off to ski lifts simply by booking on whatsapp page. Some of the best service I have experienced around the world. All staff were friendly and helpful in every dealing I had going over and above expectations. Staff genuinely invested time and effort to assist us with a problem we encountered with our transfer bus to Tokyo. Would highly recommend and will return in future. 👌

Excellent hospitality and great accomodation for groups or family. Double floors with twin beds, double decker beds, washing machine and dryer, kitchen, dishwasher, expresso machine, living room area - very much like your own home, sited near forest with amazing fresh air and space to chill out. Onsen is within walking distance, so are the restaurants, Lawson and you can also go for jogging. Thumbs up and perfect place to be in for holiday.

Great chalet located so near to so many things. Went there recently to cycle at Iwatake and it was a short ride from Wadano Woods to the bike park. The chalet could fit so many of us and it was a pleasant stay with many facilities such as a bath, laundry (wash and dryer), a fully functioning kitchen. Location wise it is near to Lawson as a convenient store and you can head out to town to get groceries as well. Nearby you can find plenty of soba restaurants (do check/call first for reservation).

Not only was the accommodation exceptionally beautiful, but the customer service offered by Hakuba Hotel Group was world class. By far the most accommodating and professional people I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. We will definitely be back (only for longer next time)!

The chalet was clean, spacious, comfortable and we had a great time! Location was also wonderful. We could go all the places we wanted to go within 5-10 minutes by car. We parked our car at the parking which is right there by the chalet, which made it very convenient for us. I loved the hand written welcome note from the staff. It was so sweet. The whole stay was like going to the summer house, just muuuuch better! Very comfortable and private, and the whole place smells like wood...so refreshing!! (A small tip about the bottom 2 bedrooms: I recommend to leave the doors open and the electric fans on even when you're not using, cuz when the doors closed and no fan on, they can get a damp smell.) First time in Hakuba, but people we met were all very friendly and nice. We enjoyed SUPing at the lake, going to Onsen, BBQing at the chalet, and visiting Iwatake with such a magnificent view. We definitely would like to come back again, and recommend you to go during the summer as well as the winter. Thank you for helping us making such a lovely memory!!

Top spot for the nearby lift and luckily there is ski hire and a great pub nearby, not so good if you want to move around hakuba, as transport in hakuba valley is messy and difficult.

Brilliant chalets in Wadano, perfectly situated near Hakuba and Happo One. Well-serviced luxury accommodation is a great touch to your skiing holiday. Washing machine and dryer, dishwasher, drying room for your ski gear, PlayStation for the kids and shuttle availability for shopping and restaurant bookings - very comfortable indeed!

Echoland Apartments Hakuba offers exceptional apartment accommodation with a welcoming host. It is renowned as the top choice for premier lodging in Hakuba, providing a comfortable and convenient stay for travelers.
Staying at Echoland Apartments was an amazing experience! The location is ideal, situated close to a variety of excellent restaurants, making it easy to enjoy great meals after a day of activities. The host was incredible, and the hospitality was second to none, making us feel truly welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. The apartment itself was modern, spacious, and exceptionally well-stocked with everything we could need, including coffee, tea, bathroom amenities, and even cooking spices. The thoughtful details made it feel like a home away from home. The large living areas provided plenty of room to relax, and the views of the surrounding mountains were simply breathtaking. It’s such a well-located apartment with top-notch facilities, this is the perfect choice. Love love love

I had the pleasure of staying at the echoland apartments earlier this month. The apartments were absolutely perfect, modern, clean and extremely comfortable. The lovely underfloor heating was such a comfort after a long day on the mountain. Located in the heart of echoland, walking distance to loads of bars, restaurants and amenity - we had great options to consider each night. The snow was perfect too! Tereza was the best host I have dealt with over the years, so incredibly helpful and generous with her time showing us some great tips and even assisting when our train got stuck (too much snow) with other travel options. I couldn’t recommend this more highly!! I’ll be back next year with the extended family to hopefully book the whole building!! Thanks again for everything Tereza - we owe you!! Adam

We had a fabulous stay here. The apartment is well thought out with everything you need. Also very western friendly with a luxury fit out. Tereza, the hostess, is also what makes the stay so exceptional. She gave me so much time helping me get organized with our trip to Japan. I had no idea and it can be daunting going somewhere where the language is so different. She helped with so much and to name a few - which airport to fly into, how best to get to Hakuba with the train service, supermarket trips while staying there and just generally being so helpful. The apartment is so conveniently located too. 3 min walk to the bus stop to all the resorts and restaurants are all within a 5 min walk, the closest is 30m from the front door! Love this place and would definitely stay here again.

The resort has a free shuttle bus system connecting all areas and restaurants at various locations, making it convenient for visitors to explore the entire resort while enjoying delicious meals.
Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort is an absolute gem for skiers of all levels, especially those looking to hone their skills. One of its standout features is the incredibly wide slopes, which provide ample space for practice without feeling crowded. Whether you’re a beginner working on your turns or an intermediate skier looking to build confidence, these expansive runs offer the perfect environment to improve. The snow conditions are generally reliable, making it a great spot for a full day on the mountain. We went on the last day of the winter season. Luckily we didn’t rent the ski gear as the snow quality was great but we had a great time snow shoeing to Mount Kotomi. Unfortunately we didn’t get to the top as it was quite steep and slippery but with better gear it was totally doable. The views were breathtaking though !

went here for 2 days. The number of slopes you can go down is limited compared to other world-renowned resorts, but it was beautiful, fun, and the conditions were great. We got snow one day and a clear day the next so we got the full experience. 2 days is probably sufficient and after that I would recommend going to other resorts within the valley.

Very good ski place for beginners to learn. Slopes are wide and gentle. For experts this might be a little warm up place for you. Easiest ski mountain in the hakuba region.
Winston J — Google review
Excellent resort part of the Hakuba Valley resorts. Plenty of gentle runs for beginners with enough more challenging runs for the experts. Linked with Hakuba 47 to extend the terrain. Great food options at Escal Plaza, which also has lockers for daytime and overnight hire. Buses leave from Escal plaza north and south bound to other resorts, these buses are included in your Hakuba Valley lift pass or you can buy a ticket when boarding. Most accommodation options are downhill from the Escal Plaza entrance but there is a local shuttle bus that can be used to and from the Plaza. This bus is free but can fill up fast. The walk up hill can be good to get the legs moving in the morning.

Hakuba Goryu is a fantastic resort for beginners, with wide, long trails perfect for learning and practicing the basics. What truly made my experience special, though, was the incredible staff. They were so friendly and helpful. When I missed the last bus back to my hotel, a traffic coordinator went above and beyond. He advised me to take the V1 shuttle to Omachi Onsenkyo. Thinking I had plenty of time, I returned to Escal Plaza about 15 minutes before the V1's scheduled arrival. To my surprise, the coordinator actually came into the plaza to find me and let me know the bus was there! This level of care and attention was truly moving and made my trip unforgettable.

Great day out on the snow fields. So many options since Goryu & Hakuba 47 are connected at the top lifts. Get there from 9-10am for a safety briefing if you want access to the off piste tree runs!!! And they only have a selected amount to offer daily! Great facilities for food and seating areas. LOVE their locker room set up and can use for the day! Just like Cortina (except cortina had less food options, but, go to a Lawson’s the night before and stock up vs paying high prices for low quality food options). Tsugaike, Goryu, Happo have similar food choices and options. Cortina had the least amount but TOP SKI FIELD! Fresh powder and tree runs there.

Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park is a ski and snowboard resort that offers slopes of various levels, complemented by a variety of restaurants and cafes. The resort provides access to multiple mountains on one ski pass, with accommodation options being mostly ski in/ski out. Japan's sensational snow conditions ensure that skiers or boarders can always find powder to enjoy. Hakuba also features an abundance of affordable dining options around the mountainside.
Love the half pipe part of the ski area. When it’s snowing the side pow is so fun. When groomed it’s perfect to practice some nice carving. Also great to jump in and out of the small size half pipe. Slight complain is it might get busy during those nice skiing days.

Absolutely Incredible Snow Experience at Hakuba 47! Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park completely exceeded my expectations. From the moment we arrived, the mountain vibes were unbeatable—breathtaking scenery, perfectly groomed slopes, and a fun, welcoming atmosphere that made it one of the best ski destinations I’ve ever visited. The variety of runs caters to all levels, from wide, gentle slopes for beginners to thrilling tree runs and terrain parks that kept the adrenaline pumping. The snow quality was top-tier, light and fluffy powder that made every run a dream. The lift system was efficient, and the staff were super friendly and helpful—even on busy days, things moved smoothly. One of the highlights was the terrain park—it’s seriously one of the best in Japan. Whether you’re just starting with jumps or you’re a seasoned freestyler, it’s got something for everyone. Plus, the views from the top of the mountain are simply unreal. You can see across the whole valley—pure magic. Facilities are clean and well-organized, with plenty of places to grab food or warm up with hot drinks. The rental gear was high quality, and instructors were knowledgeable and patient, making it great for families and solo travelers alike. I’ll definitely be coming back. Hakuba 47 is a must-visit if you’re into winter sports, stunning alpine scenery, and unforgettable snow adventures. 10/10.

Great place for advance skiers and snowboarders! No begginer slopes at the bottom of the resort. Lots of tree riding zones and big freestyle park!
Drejc P — Google review
Great place for both novice and experienced folks, cheap lift tickets and good facilities (eateries, restrooms and great shop) up top. The top trail was initially closed due to windy conditions but a few hours later they opened it back up so be sure to contando check. It is easier if you stay in Hakuba village (anywhere) as you can easily walk to the lift within 10 minutes of any hotel. Cabs are an option but will add up and may take a while to get (30 to 45 min wait) The only complaint I have is the lack of local Japanese people working up front, it is primarily ran by Australians so you don’t get the same customer service you get everywhere else in Japan.

First time we do snowboard at hakuba 47 in april 2025. No worries, there is school for snowboarding and skiing. They spoke english fluently for teaching you how to use snowboard. You also can see snow rain if youre blessed. The place wasnt crowded at all in april, but no bus stop in here, bus stop only operate in december 2024-march 2025, you can go anywhere by taxi in april

This is the Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park visited at the beginning of Feb 2024 for skiing. Fortunately, there is fresh powder snow as it has snowed in the last night and the most of the slopes at the mountaintop are excellent. The slope from the mountaintop for intermediate has a fantastic view I love it. The Route 1 for intermediate and the Route 2 for advanced are perfectly groomed and so flat, there are great for curving. The Route 3 is so steep and has moguls. There is a huge, paved, and free parking lot in front of the snow resort. Please note that the ticket is a common ticket for the Hakuba Goryu and Iimori.

The Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort is a top-rated destination offering skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing in the Alpine area. It boasts breathtaking views from its summit terrace and provides access to numerous ski trails. The City Bakery serves delicious breakfasts while keeping visitors warm from freezing gusts. Visitors can easily reach Mimizuku Onsen by taking a free shuttle from Happo Bus Terminal or hailing a cab for less than 10 minutes.
Only came here for skiing on one day, but had a great time. I think Iwatake has a better distribution of opportunities for all skill-levels, compared to the resorts further north up the valley which tend to be more suited for beginners. There hadn't been any heavy snowfall in the recent days, but I found Iwatake extremely busy the day I was here. The line for the gondola at the base-station was quite long. Once up the gondola, it was fine staying on the upper slopes. Iwatake has a good park section that's easy to access. Alps everywhere have incredible views, but I have to give special mention to the view south down the valley from the slopes by the top-station at Iwatake. Note that if you get a one-day pass, you'll have to give a small deposit (I believe ¥1000). Returning your pass to the ticket-counter at the end of the day gets you the deposit back, but make sure you account for the extra time if you're on a tight schedule.

Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort Gondola – Scenic Ride with Great Views 🚠🏔️ The gondola at Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort offers a beautiful ride up the mountain with stunning views along the way. We bought our tickets through the hotel at a discounted price of 2,700 yen per person, which included a round-trip for both the gondola and the No.5 South Chair Lift — great value! At the top, there are several scenic spots and relaxing viewpoints to sit and enjoy the panorama. A ski resort with extraordinary scenery that is suitable for both skiers and families. However, the green slopes on the mountain are limited and unfriendly for very-beginner skiers. It involves red slopes if you want to ski down from the top to the bottom, but it is still handleable for a two days newbie.
SONE S — Google review
The view of the alps are really nice. The 2 types of cable cars give different feeling. Don't forgot to play the swing which is really fun and nice view
Tee S — Google review
One of the smaller and easier Hakuba areas. Also a bit cheaper for a day pass for Iwatake only. Lots of free parking. New gondola moves the valley station queue quickly. Queue from 8:30 till 11am and then gets quieter. Some of the chairlifts are older and don't have safety bars, which feels odd.
Douglas A — Google review
Visited in early November and walked from the car park up to the top and back down. You can take the gondola up and back but a return ticket is 2500¥ and the walk only takes 2 hours up and 1 hour down and takes you through lovely forest. At this time of year the leaves are really beautiful and it’s much nicer than taking the gondola. We had ramen and beer at the top and there’s also a really busy coffee shop and bakery. You can take the bus back to Nagano from the car park (though check the timetable and get in line early to get a seat).
Laura D — Google review
We only skied one day here but it was a great mountain for our family, we could find some nice black runs for those who wanted something a little steeper and more challenging but also green and blue going to the same chair so we could meet up after the runs. Powder was easy to find on and off trail. The Gondola is very nice and meets you to the top in comfort quickly. Best lift in Hakuba valley. The cafe is worth a visit and when the cloud lifted the views were great, though hard to find a bad view in the alps.

Happo Ike pond is a popular tourist attraction located on the ridge trail leading to Mt. Karamatsu. The lake offers stunning reflections of the surrounding peaks, making it a sight to behold on clear days. Tourists can reach the lake by taking a gondola and lift to Happo Sanso, followed by traversing through forests and mountain paths. The lake sits at an elevation of 2080m and during winter, it freezes over turning into a walkable terrain.
We took the bus from Nagano. Arrived at bus stop at 8am for the 8:20am bus and there was already a long queue. The bus was full and we had to wait 1.5h for the next bus. A lot of people left the queue due to the long wait. It was a Sunday and the Happo pond area was crowded. The trail consists of rocky terrain for some parts as well as boardwalk. Advisable to bring hiking poles for some support on the rocky areas. Hiking shoes with good grip is recommended because the rock surfaces are slippery even tho it was a dry weather day. The walk from the final chairlift to the Happo pond took about 1h at a medium pace. It can be difficult to navigate the rocky sections when there are a lot of people in both directions. The descent took less time (45 mins). Take note of the last chair lift timing as well as the connecting time for the Alpico bus. There can be a long queue for the chair lifts and cable car to return.
Kailing L — Google review
It is worth hiking. You need a high price for gondola and benchlifting, but the price is the same as what we get from the view. I went there with my 3-year-old, 5-year-old, and other children. It is good for children, too, because the trail has a path to walk on. However, you should pay attention to heatstroke in summer, bring a lot of water, enough snacks, and something to cover your head from the direct sun. It is a good and fun mountain to hike! Hope you will enjoy it too.
Ridho S — Google review
Hiking from the top station of the chairlift to Happo Pond takes about 1.5–2 hours, especially if you stop to take photos along the way. The trail offers amazing panoramic views, particularly during the autumn foliage season. We went on a cloudy day, so the water’s reflection wasn’t as vibrant as in the promotional photos, but the views of the Hakuba Peaks and Happo Pond were still impressive. Coming down is much quicker, making it a very rewarding half-day hike.
Cao A — Google review
Would have been a perfectly wonderful hike if not for the rain and the mushy and slippery rocks and planks along the trails. It takes 1 gondola and 2 ski lift rides to get to 1680m before we can hike to the Happo pond. If you have lower limb injuries or weak muscle groups here, be cautioned that this trail can be hazardous. Seniors should abstained for fear of ankle sprains and knee injuries. When trekking up, be mindful of the distance to keep from the front person/group as there is a danger of a domino effect of falling or slipping. A pair of good hiking shoes is a must for comfort and safety! In the morning, it is always misty. So, do have your water-proof jacket and a small tower handy. For non-Japanese, the climb/hike traffic is to keep to your left. Please do not barge through the line up or down, most of the time, you will be allowed through if you are faster.
Dennis T — Google review
Not to hard hike with an incredible landscape view! The way up to the hike with the cablecar is fun as the hike itself 🤭
Lotem A — Google review
We hiked Happo on Aug 15th and we already had predicted the weather. It was cloudy but no rain day, but we did not get demotivated to hike. There is 1 Gondola lift and 2 chair lift . Total round trip cost for each person is ¥3300. From the 3rd station you get to hike for about 1hr30 mins to reach the top where you can enjoy the Hakko Ike and the Alps mesmerizing view. We were fortunate to have less heat while the climb but a little unfortunate for getting the perfect view of Alps. But the total hike was worth it. Sometimes, nature do not behave as predicted in weather apps but, it’s not bad to give a try😉 There are two ways to hike. One is through the Rocky Mountains and the other is a little long route but managed to make stairs. We ascended with tough trail through rocky stones and descended in the easier trail. Also, they suggest taking stony rocks while ascending because it might get slippery in mist and descending might be tricky. You can also hike beyond Happo Ike, but we have sign a form at the entrance if we are hiking further. Also that area needs you to have perfect hiking equipment. Overall a best summer hike for us ☺️

Such a beautiful alpine hike. A lot of stairs and rocks to get to it and get back down. A lot of people have heavy packs on, but given the short distance, I recommend bringing a very light pack or no pack at all if you’re only going to Happo Pond and back down. It shouldn’t take more than 90 minutes and one bottle of water is all you need if you’re in moderate physical shape. My 10 year old had no problem making it there and back to the lift in 70 minutes.

One of my favorite places to visit in Japan. The stunning views surrounded by mountains are amazing. The walking path is well-made, and there are spots to rest if you get tired. It’s really worth going up to Happo Pond. Even when I visited on a rainy day, it was very cool. Luckily, the rain stopped for a bit. Even though there was a lot of fog, and I couldn’t see the mountain reflections in the pond, which is what makes this place special, sometimes the fog created a unique view.

Nestled in the picturesque Hakuba village, Oide Park is a hidden gem renowned for its breathtaking cherry blossom views. While this area may not boast an abundance of sakura trees, it compensates with stunning backdrops of the snow-capped Japanese Alps and the serene Hime River flowing gracefully nearby. Ideal for hanami enthusiasts, visitors can enjoy a delightful variety of blooming trees at different stages, creating a vibrant tapestry of colors.
Today still have sakura but a little bit and after heavy rain them will be less more. But if you're want to walking and relax this place is very beautiful.

The river along the park 🌿🏞️ is absolutely breathtaking with the scenery behind! 💙 There’s also a hidden spot if you walk a bit up the hill. The only downside — parking’s a bit small.

What a fun little wetland hike on a nice day! Park by the main road and then it’s about a 5-minute walk past the farm in the attached photo to get to the wetland loop. Coffee shop
Hakuba Mountain Harbor, also known as The City Bakery, is a must-visit spot at the summit of Mount Iwatake. Accessible by the Iwatake Gondola Lift Noah, it offers a breathtaking mountain view and aromatic coffee for both philosophers and athletes, including mountain bikers. Whether you're chilling after hitting the Hakuba Ski Resort or grabbing a bite, this bakery has an array of drink and bread options to choose from.
This ski resort is beautiful, with many trails suitable for all levels, from beginners to experts. If you don't ski, you can take the ropeway up to take pictures of the mountain views, and there's also a cafe to relax in. At the top, there's a restaurant and a shop selling ski equipment. The ropeway ticket is 6500 Yen for a one-day pass.

A cozy café offering freshly baked pastries and cookies, with both indoor and outdoor seating overlooking a panoramic view of the Japan Alps. There’s also a scenic terrace and a popular photo spot nearby — perfect for a relaxed morning break. It’s best to come early in the morning when it’s still quiet and easy to find a good seat. The coffee was just okay and a bit pricey, but the bakery items were tasty and well-made. Overall, a nice place to enjoy a treat with an amazing view!
Cao A — Google review
you do need to have luck with the weather to understand why this place gets long lines. the view is really beautiful when you have full visibility. i’ve seen it on an overcast day and there was absolutely nothing in the background. anyway the coffee and bakery were really decent. some cookies were really yummy. anyway if it’s a good day, come during opening time. it starts slow but suddenly the lines just explodes.
Robert C — Google review
Few important pointer before going: - check on the weather forecast - follow website direction on the Google map (gotta go up through by gondola) - weekday for less crowd The pics taken were from mid-June. The food we tried were all delicious, especially the hand-made marshmallow🫰🏻love it!
Anna C — Google review
I think people come for different reasons. The biggest reason is the view from the balcony behind the coffee shop. There is a line that stretches nearly 100m back on the RIGHT just to take photo from this balcony. The line on the LEFT is actually to buy coffee and food from this coffee shop. You can actually just ignore the lines if all you want is to take photos from other spots OTHER than that balcony. I got great photos without lining up. Oh the chocolate muffin was super!

What a wonderful place it was ! Ticket price is 2900 yen! for rope ways both path.

Yesterday, 1 June is low season. It was very cloudy which made alpine mount vanished in foggy. I would say that if you cannot see all mountain from the ground. Do not expected to ride gondola and see as others see.😭 Free shuttle bus from happo terminal. Gondola ¥2700.
Primpinky K — Google review
People come for the view. In winter it's very crowded for food and coffee and hard to get a table. There's also only a limited range of muffins and snacks, no meals. In summer it's probably very pleasant. There's always a queue to stand out on the edge for photos.

Hakuba Sanosaka Snow Resort is a family-friendly ski and snowboard destination that caters to all levels of skiing ability. The resort offers an array of eateries, making it easy to find something to eat while enjoying the slopes. With 5-star ratings for easy runs and family-oriented fun, this resort is perfect for beginners or families with young children. Additionally, the low numbers mean there are no queues for lifts, making it easy to get around the mountain quickly.
Perfect place, less people, even though it’s not that big but lift can keep you going none stop🥳🥳only need to know is google sanosaka parking lot rather than direct to the resort. Otherwise you might facing slippery 🚗

Great Ski Resort for Beginners We had a fantastic time at this resort, especially as beginners. We were lucky to experience heavy snowfall on a spring day – at one point, the snow was so thick that I couldn’t even see my skis while skiing! Although it’s a relatively small ski area, the food court offers a decent variety of options, which was a pleasant surprise. One of the highlights was how uncrowded it was, making it easier to navigate the slopes without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The ski lift pass is also more affordable compared to larger resorts, which makes sense since it mainly caters to beginners and intermediate skiers. If you’re looking for a beginner-friendly ski resort with fewer crowds and good value for money, this is a great choice.
Born — Google review
It’s good resort for beginners & intermediate. The snow is good & slopes are gentle. The resort is bit cheaper compared to others in Hakuba.
Div — Google review
Ski resort with extraordinary lake view. Be aware you need to get through a red slope if you want to get to the photo spot of the lake view.
SONE S — Google review
Hakuba Sanosaka might not be the biggest resort in the Hakuba Valley, but that’s part of its charm. The slopes are smaller compared to some of the more well-known resorts in the area, making it a great spot for beginners and intermediate skiers looking for a more relaxed experience. While I still think Tsugaike edges it out for complete beginners—thanks to its wide, gentle terrain—Sanosaka has a lot going for it. One of the biggest perks is how quiet it is. Since it’s less popular than its neighbors, the slopes are far less crowded, which we really appreciated. No long lift lines, no weaving through throngs of people—just smooth runs and space to practice. Another plus: the ski pass is cheaper than most resorts in the area, making it a great budget-friendly option if you’re not after the biggest vertical drops or the most advanced terrain. If you’re after a low-key day on the mountain or just starting out with skiing or snowboarding, Hakuba Sanosaka is a solid choice
Edward H — Google review
Tiniest resort in Hakuba but delivers the punch on a day with good powder and blue skies. Runs are wide and long, must mention the quad lifts run at a good speed that keeps you going. Both Lake Down and Paradise runs are fabulous for beginners and intermediate skiers. The view is breathtaking - online pictures do it no justice! Lunch at Castor Plaza was also a good find.

Iwatake Mountain Resort was breathtaking, came here this summer July 2025 (Green Season) took a taxi from Hakuba valley, bought ticket at the gate for the gondola ride. Up in the mountain, we had a very healthy lunch available at the sky art cafe. We tried the big swing, drove the mountain karts which was so fun! Coffee with a fantastic view is just the best part of our visit at City Bakery Cafe. Very hot during summer even in this mountain place, make sure you bring a hat and sunscreen. 😍Hope to be back sometime in winter. Oh and you can bring your pet, wheelchair accessibility is possible but very challenging.

The snow resort has many different lifts and the slopes are great for beginners too. There are a couple of restaurants outside the resort. There are many parking lots but you have to come early if you want to park in front of the resort or reserve a space. The other parking lots are about 5-7 minutes walk from the resort — that’s the Dai ni (第二) parking. The staff at the window ticket are kind of rude. That aside, the place is overall foreigner friendly.

This is the resort to be at on a powder day. Plenty of fresh lines to be had. Try to pre purchase tickets, as the line for the ticket office and gondola was a nightmare (There is a chairlift out of the bottom, but wasn’t running). Perfect for non skiers/sightseeing and skiers alike.

Iwatake Green Park – Relaxing Spot with Panoramic Views A wide open area at the top of Iwatake with beautiful panoramic views of the mountains. There are plenty of seats to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the cool, refreshing breeze. A perfect spot to take a break and soak in the scenery

Mountains
Shakushidake is a striking mountain peak with a steep incline and a rugged trail that runs along its ridge. During the winter months, it offers thrilling opportunities for backcountry skiing. From Hakuba, this triangular prism-shaped mountain appears majestic and commands attention. While it takes about an hour to reach Shakushidake from Hakuba, the ascent can be challenging due to adverse mountain conditions.
(Translated by Google) We arrived at Shakushidake, one of the three Hakuba mountains, after climbing Mt. Hakuba! We descended to a saddle, where another climb awaited us. The final climb was quite steep and the footing was rocky! The view of Mt. Hakuba from the summit was also amazing♪ (Original) 白馬三山の一つ「杓子岳」、白馬岳を登ってからやってきました!一旦鞍部まで下りるのでまた登りが待っています。 最後はなかなかの急登で足場もガレていました!山頂から見る白馬岳がまた素晴らしい♪

(Translated by Google) Followed by rock scaffolding. You can skip this part without going to the top, but the view is worth the effort. Of course, this is a matter of physical strength, but I feel a sense of accomplishment after enduring the pain for about 20 minutes and climbing up. There may be some places where you could be in serious trouble if you accidentally get hit by a strong wind and are blown away at the top... so proceed with caution. (Translated by Google) In a sense, it is a unique mountain among the three Hakuba mountains. The narrow, flat ridgeline, which looks like a triangular prism made of rough stones turned sideways, is just over 1m wide. The Nagano side has a smooth slide and the Toyama side has a wide slide. I learned here that I don't like narrow horizontal roads more than vertical rocky areas! There is also a winding road at the bottom, so people who are going there and back should use the winding road on their way back. I didn't want to climb this scree twice. Mountain area: Northern Hida Mountains Prefecture: Toyama Prefecture Nagano Prefecture Altitude: 2,812m It is located on the main ridgeline of the Ushirotateyama Mountain Range (Hakuba Mountain Range), and the main mountain trail is a traverse that winds around the west side of the mountain, with branches along the way leading to the summit. The unique scenery is eye-catching. The slope is generally rough. The mountain ridge is asymmetrical, with a large drop on the Nagano Prefecture side. This is due to the influence of strong westerly winds. There is a large stream at the bottom of the cliff, and during the snowy season, some people come here to ski. There are no lifts. The area around the mountaintop is also home to a colony of dicentra. What a great place to bring the family when you need a break from the ski slopes. Lots of bouncy areas for jumping and entertaining the kiddies. Definitely recommended !

Amazing range of trampolines, climbing walls, ping-pong tables, activities for very young children and even a bar. Always spotlessly clean. Great fun and exceptionally good value. Adults and kids thrilled!

Perfect place to take kids during a rainy day visit to the area. There’s plenty of fun to be had with a rock wall, trampoline areas, foam pit and many other things. There’s even a cute area for littles too small to bounce with a ball pit and play area.

Super fun trampoline park with a foam pit and an air bag to safely practice new tricks! The trampolines are very bouncy and perfect to do spins and flips! Staff is also awesome, I got a season pass there and I'm always excited to go :)

Great place to train park for ski and snowboard in the winter. They have practice tramp ski's and boards, Bouldering badminton, table tennis and kids ball pool. Staff are really helpful and knowledgeable. Great way to spend an evening or bad weather day.
Lyndsay S — Google review
A friend recommended this place and I’m glad she did. I read some of the reviews after visiting, and I didn’t experience anything negative like in the reviews. The staff is super friendly and they explained the rules very well. The patrons are well behaved. No loud kids being rude. Actually, one kept trying to encourage me to jump from a high point. I just couldn’t do it, but the kid was super supportive. Just be aware that 100kg is the maximum weight. I am slightly over and I was scared I would break the trampoline. So, I didn’t jump to high or hard. It is expensive, but it’s not a common facility. Where in Japan can you find trampolines like this to play on? It’s worth the cost. The bathroom is gender neutral, which is rare in Japan. And, the facility was created with recycled goods. I say if you’re in the area, give it a try.

I work in Evergreen Outdoor Center (Outdoor company) as a guide and I was in Hakubounce with a group of kids last week and it was an amazing experience! The Hakubounce crew is super nice, they teach us how to do different tricks in the trampolines and we were having fun a lot! Perfect activity for a rainy day when you don't know what to do outside. Thank you so much Hakubounce!

Friendly staff. Annoying because they didn’t shovel a path to the door in the snow. We called in advance to confirm a baby play area, but it was more for toddlers younger kids. With COVID they have the windows open and its COLD!! I was sitting ON TOP of the heater and still cools. Those bouncing will be fine. Fun place

(Translated by Google) It was my first downhill experience, but I was very satisfied. It feels like it can be enjoyed by everyone from beginners to advanced players. At first, I was worried about whether to buy a one-day ticket for the gondola, but the one-day ticket was the right choice. Facilities such as restrooms were also very good. ・The weather in the mountains is changeable, changing from morning to fog, noon to clear skies, and afternoon to fog. Other than the sunny weather, it was very cold, so it might be a good idea to bring an extra photo in November. ・There are changing rooms and coin lockers at the foot of the mountain. I was able to exchange money by asking the staff at the store. Even after going up the gondola, there were coin lockers near the restrooms in the building. ・Spicy at the foot of the mountain is a good place to rent a bicycle! ・There was Panasonic's latest hardtail emtb rental at the end of the gondola. It was 1,200 yen including one gondola ride, so it might be a good idea if you want to take a short ride on the up-and-down course at the top of the mountain. ・There was a free shuttle bus. Please check the official website for times as the number and stopping places are limited. ・If you take a taxi, it costs 1,800 yen including the transportation fee to Hakuba Station.
