Jodogahama Beach is a stunning destination recommended by the Hotel Koyokan staff. It offers free parking and no entrance fee, with a free shuttle service available from the visitor center. The beach boasts clear waters, picturesque views, and a pleasant climate even in summer. Visitors can enjoy walking along the coast and picnicking in this breathtakingly beautiful location. Additionally, there are gift shops available for souvenirs.
Must see if you're traveling around this region. We took a short hike from one of the free parking spots - took around a 20 min slow stroll to the beach and 20 min back.
Ryan P — Google review
Very picturesque place, easy to get to from downtown by taxi or public bus. Very few people there when we went on a cool, overcast day in late April. Very calm and serene place to walk along the shore to the neaby national park visitor center.
Martin C — Google review
Great Beach to go. They have a blue cave boat ride you can do for 2000 Yen per person. The other sightseeing bigger boat is only available on the weekends. You can feed the birds and they will swarm all around you. Beach is about 15 minute walk from the visitor center and the blue cave boat ride is 15 minutes in length. Overall a nice place to visit for an hour or 2.
JasonWorldTraveler — Google review
As one of the most popular beaches in Iwate, this beach is along the coast of Miyako Bay. There are multiple areas along the Beach to stop and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Boat tours into the blue cave are available as well as a leisure boat cruise.
Alex D — Google review
Very pretty pebble beach, nice for a rest after a hike along the coast line, with a shop to buy some refreshments.
Christina W — Google review
It was nice but not excellent. The views are pretty and you can feel how devastating the tsunami was in that area. You can take a small boat cruise around the zone, but besides a small visitor center there is not much around.
Juan R — Google review
Just extraordinarily, stunningly, breathtakingly, jaw-droppingly beautiful. We nearly didn't come here with rain and a muggy hot day predicted, but caught the C04 bus from the island stand (3?) outside Miyako station - about 30 mins, we were the only people on the last leg, and got off to beautiful rising fog and patches of blue. My photos don't do it justice - see for yourself - I cannot argue with "the most beautiful beach in the world"
Ultimobile — Google review
Fantastic beach on Jodogahama island, maybe the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. Not very crowded, perfect exposition, perfect water. Bring something to protect you from walking on rocks (it's not a sandy beach). Also, in summer, a perfect spot to see the sunrise at 4.30 AM 🤩

Nestled in the scenic coastal region of Miyako, the Earthquake Heritage Taro Kanko Hotel stands as a poignant reminder of the devastating tsunami that struck on March 11, 2011. Originally a beloved hotel, it was left in ruins after the disaster. Rather than demolishing it, local authorities chose to preserve this site as a memorial to honor those affected by the tragedy. Visitors can explore its impressive remnants and gain insight into the sheer force of nature that reshaped this area.
If you are driving to SANNOIWA ROCKS, you will pass by this place about 5mins away. Good that they preserve it to remind us of the destructive powers of Tsunami.

Impressive ruins are kept as they are in memory of the tragic tsunami of 2011.

Great experience. After the hotel heritage site, a short walk to the Sannoiwa Rocks. A must see in the area. Take the cute train from Miyako Station to Shin Taro Station on the Sanriku Railway
Tom T — Google review
A must see place in Miyako. Hope the newly built dam can protect the area in future.
Lydia C — Google review
The Taro Kanko Hotel was a popular hotel prior to March 11th 2011. It was severely damaged in the tsunami that came after the earthquake. Initially, the city wanted to demolish it but decided to preserve it as a memorial. In the summer season, they have guided tours. Take the time to look to understand the magnitude of the tsunami. On the behind is the school that served as temporary city hall and rescue center. It was the only part it the city center now washed away.
Malcome L — Google review

Very very recommended. The place is so beautiful. From Visitor center, you need to walk 15 minutes to Oku-jodogahama where you can see the beautiful beach, with clean water, birds, and the pretty-natural-rock scenery on the beach. There's also monument and deck-bay on Oku-Jodogahama.

(Translated by Google) I parked my car in Parking Lot 1 and headed down the stairs at the visitor center to the promenade. I walked along the promenade, looking out at the beautiful ocean, towards the Restaurant House. There were lots of sea urchins at the bottom of the sea! There were black-tailed gulls on the promenade. We were blessed with good weather, and the autumn breeze was pleasant. The view from the observation deck of the Restaurant House was also beautiful.✨ (Original)

it's really depends on luck whether we are able to see that blowhole cause the waves were low tide when we reach there... but the view is nice and windy.

Difficult walk to see the blow hole. Steep steps. It is not recommended for people with mobility issues. Incredible views. It's worth the walk down if you can make it.

Really cool blowhole and an enjoyable hike out here. Worth sitting and watching for awhile if the seas are rough.

(Translated by Google) Arrived on January 5, 2025. As it is the easternmost cape on Honshu, the approach trail is well maintained. It takes about an hour to reach there. There are some parts of the trail that can be slippery and involve walking along the edge of a cliff, so if possible, it's best to wear hiking shoes. Please note that the restrooms on the lighthouse grounds are closed during the winter. The approach that stretches from the entrance gate to the building is dramatic. The design of both the light tower and the building of the lighthouse is minimal and stylish. The atmosphere is somewhat similar to Kannonzaki Lighthouse in Kanagawa Prefecture. It is unusual for a light tower to rise directly from the grass. When I went there, the colors of the Fresnel lenses that let sunlight pass through them were beautiful. I'd like to see it glowing, but the risk of bears is high, so it seems difficult.
Yom N — Google review
Todogasaki or Cape Todo in English is the eastern most point of Japan's main island of Honshu. Many people gather there to watch the first sunrise of the year. This year 2024 the weather was not favorable, it was windy and snowy. We couldn't see the sunrise but it was still amazing to be there to watch the waves hit the rocky shore.
Malcome L — Google review
(Translated by Google) I went there on Monday 7/7. I went around the peninsula counterclockwise and arrived around 10am. I was able to get there on a motorbike, but the road is quite narrow if you go by car. There is a steep slope right after the start, and there are ups and downs along the way, but it took about an hour to reach the lighthouse. The return journey took about 45 minutes. The view was nice. You can get a certificate of achievement at roadside stations in Miyako. There are a lot of bugs and spider webs on the road, so it's a good idea to brush them away with a wooden stick as you walk.

In the gazebo there is a notebook commemorating reaching the easternmost point of the mainland, where everyone can write whatever they like. The toilets are actually equipped with toilet paper and are flushable, using recycled water such as rainwater. I reached Tsugarugasaki on my way to the easternmost point of Honshu. The lighthouse visible from there isn't large, but it has a strong presence. It's located on the Sanriku coastline, and I don't think it would be visible from other landmasses unless you walked all the way here. It's a lighthouse that gives you quite a sense of accomplishment when you reach it. I highly recommend this place to anyone who likes edges, as well as lighthouse lovers. There are toilets next to the entrance and the lighthouse. Thank you for managing The place where the easternmost monument is located has a spectacular view The first 550m is a tough climb. Cape Namidazaki is a highly recommended tourist attraction in Sannoiwa, offering magnificent and breathtaking views of the Sanriku region.
