Nestled in the heart of Phrae, Khum Chao Luang stands as a magnificent testament to the region's rich history and architectural evolution. Constructed in 1893 for Chao Luang Piriya Theppawong, the last ruler of Phrae, this grand residence showcases stunning period furnishings and intricately engraved wooden doors that reflect both local craftsmanship and Western influences from a time when Phrae thrived as a key player in the teak trade.
Khum Chao Luang is a historical building located in Phrae Province in northern Thailand. Originally built in 1892 by Chao Luang Piriyachai Thepphawong, the last ruler of Phrae, the house served as his residence. The building is an excellent example of a blend of traditional Lanna architecture and European styles, as reflected in its detailed wood carvings and architectural design. Khum Chao Luang is a two-story structure built of brick and cement, notable for its 72 windows and doors, as well as the intricate carvings on the gables and cornices. The building was later used as the residence of King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit during their visit to Phrae in 1958. Today, Khum Chao Luang serves as a museum, open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with free admission for visitors. The museum exhibits period furniture, household items, and photographs, providing

A must visit place when coming to Phrae. Experience for yourself how the old ruler of Phrae lived, slept, dined and worked in his huge wooden house right in the city centre. Free entrance but donations can be made. Expect to spend 30-45 minutes here as a tourist to see it all and walk around slowly as the wooden floor is very slippery in some parts of the house
Kasper H — Google review
First, it’s a free museum so no worries about reservations. And it’s filled with a lot of historical and unique pieces. It felt like taking a step back in time as I went through the floors and the rooms and I really took my time doing so. I loved the fact that they also had these little document stands and picture boards to elaborate more on whatever piece of artifact you were seeing or room you were in. Absolutely recommend.

The residence of the Phrae royalty in the past. Learn about his and his family way of life here. Free to enter. There is a guide who can speak English to show you around the place. Came to visit during midday and chanced upon the free guided tour (in Thai) at 2pm. Took one and a half hour traveling on the tram to numerous temples. Mainly locals. Tour ended back at Kum Chao Luang, but you can get off at any point. We are free to tip them if we want at the end. Morning tour is at 10am. Luckily I had some knowledge of Thai so it's much enjoyable. Otherwise it may serve only as a transportation among the sites. the friendly guide is able to explain a little in English.

A historical destination that should not be overlooked! This, is the mansion of the last King of Phrae. Its furnished in a manner thats very vintage. There is also a guid, but only really speaks English, so maybe bring someone to translate for you? Lovely place, enjoyed soaking in the history 👌🏻
Dasha K — Google review
We made an unscheduled stop here and were we glad we did. No tourists were here when we visited. We took our time browsing the mansion/museum. There’s plenty of parking on the roadside (which is common in Phrae). No entrance fees, clean toilets and best of all…there’s a cold water dispenser. Staff were very friendly and considerate. Well-maintained sight. There are English labels for some of the items so I could understand the history of the mansion.
Chris Y — Google review
It was on fine day we went, the building is in good care. There are etiquette in English, but only short explanation. For someone who interest with building/history, perhaps you could read online articles before/after going to this place. Clean toilet available at the backyard garden.
Susanne K — Google review
Well preserved teak house with beautiful wood trims. Tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable in explaining the different parts of the house and its former uses. However the landscaping could use some improvement to complement the house.

First time visit here with family. The area is large. It’s very beautiful. If you don’t want to walk along the steps in the front, you can park the car in the back and use the steps or elevator which is not a long way.
Daneeta P — Google review
One of the most iconic temples in Phrae! The golden pagoda is absolutely stunning—especially when the sunlight hits it. Peaceful atmosphere, beautiful Lanna-style architecture, and surrounded by lush greenery on a small hill. It’s a great place to walk around, make merit, and take in the views. No entry fee, easy parking, and usually not too crowded. Definitely worth a stop if you’re exploring Northern Thailand or doing a temple tour in Phrae.
Meaw M — Google review
The entrance is quite far from the expressway. It takes time to travel from the city quite a bit. But when you get to the temple, it's worth it. temple on top of mountain You have to walk up to the top. The pagoda is very beautiful, the whole pagoda is bright gold. The bell rang because he went early in the morning. as beautiful as the rumor

About 2hours and 40mins from Sukhothai..very nice and old temple on a mountain. Lucky they have lift to take you up from the carpark.m

A must when in Phrae. Lots to see. Shops were selling statues made from the old ubosot's roof when I was there. Very unique indeed. Also spiritually important for anyone born in a tiger year.

Wat (Temple) Phra That Phae Cho is an immensely peaceful Buddhist place of worship set atop a hill. Accessed by a (left as you walk up) set of 125 steps flanked by two beautifully tiled Dragon Snakes. The 33m Golden Stupa and the Prayer Hall adjacent to it are both, calmly soothing and meditational. One can also seek blessings from a presiding Buddhist Monk and join in prayer recitals in the latter. Or simply offer candles, incense sticks and a small hand-made conical bouquet of flowers along with their own prayer recitals by dropping a small donation of THB 20/person (£0.50p) into one of several boxes. Don't miss gonging the 33 or so large brass Bells with the Teak batons provided. We then descended on the opposite set of 86 (undecorated) steps back to the street. REMEMBER: This is a Place of Worship. Both genders must dress moderately and be prepared to take-off your footwear at the very top before entering a Sacred place.

Wat Chom Sawan, situated in the picturesque province of Phrae, Thailand, is a must-see attraction known for its exquisite architectural design and rich historical significance. Constructed in 1900, this old temple boasts a unique fusion of Lanna and Burmese architectural styles. Adorned with intricate carvings and golden details at its grand entrance, the temple stands as a testament to the region's cultural heritage.
A Burmese style temple that is so ancient. Interesting architecture and history. There’s a small door by the hall that is for the owners to ride the elephants. You can also see Burmese inscriptions on the pillars. The yellow cloth that they are making, from what I heard is to wrap around the stupa and it takes around a year to complete one. Very interesting. Lucky I came with a guide.
Wilson Y — Google review
No entry fees to observe this precious historical site. You could so some donation and they provide you with the alms flowers to pay respect the Buddha. This is a must go site if you travel Phrae. There is a Shan Momestry opposite of this place with differnt attractions.
HTIKE H — Google review
Old wooden temple just across the Wat Sawan Niwet. A bid hidden behind the parking area and located in a pretty overgrown garden this beautiful old temple can be found. Expect to spend about 10-15 minutes here looking around the temple ground. I enjoyed my time here and this is still the first and only wooden temple I found in Phrae
Kasper H — Google review
A must visit cultural site in Phrae. Very beautiful and peaceful old style Burmese temple. I was the only one there when I visited except for the caretakers.
Kirk H — Google review
An ancient temple made of wood. You tell that the temple has gone thru centuries of human civilizations from the floor board. A must visit site if you are in Phrae.
Raymond N — Google review
Just one kilometer from town hall on Yontrakit Koson road is Wat Chom Sawan, a Burmese architectural style temple which combines hall for religious rituals and monk's living quarters. Antiques found here include marble Buddha statues, statues made from woven bamboos coated with lacquer and ivory sculpture slabs with Burmese scripts.

This Wat gets points for history. It must be preserved for the future Generations. The temple is not the most beautiful Teakwood Temple but it is historic and it is very well-preserved the side of the temple has been a temple for over 1,000 years obviously this beautiful wooden Temple could not be 1,000 years old but it is very old and it is worth a visit
David W — Google review
A perfect example of a Burmese style temple easily recognizable by the roof. Sadly, it was undergoing renovations at the time of my visit. The interior is also recognizable as it is more square than a Thai style temple. The Buddha is made of bamboo and gilded. The temple is over 100 years old.

Phae Meuang Phii Forest Park, located near Phrae Town, is a captivating destination that showcases stunning sandstone pillars sculpted by natural erosion over two million years. Visitors can enjoy short walking trails through this unique landscape, which offers a peaceful atmosphere and breathtaking views from the top. The park is easily accessible with ample parking and well-maintained facilities, including clean restrooms and a café.
This ghost town is a place we've seen reviews on TikTok and felt pretty indifferent about. It didn't seem like there was anything there, so we didn't think we'd stop by. But since it was on our way, we decided to give it a try.

This is a great historical site with massive, impressive rocks that are fascinating to see. We didn’t spend much time there, but you can go to a viewpoint at the top and possibly take a short hike—though we didn’t have the right shoes for it. It’s a wonderful place to visit, and you likely won’t need more than 1-2 hours to explore it.
Adi C — Google review
It’s a 100baht fee to enter the park (for a foreigner) and 30baht to park a car. There are paved trails and good signs. I was the only visitor at the time I visited. I enjoyed it. There are quite a few benches scattered about the area

Good parking, park had a food vendor that sells excellent Grilled chicken and other Thai dishes... Park was well signed and had clear walking paths... I would wear good walking shoes for this park.

Wat Phong Sunan, also known as the Temple of the Tortoise, is a stunning and serene ancient Buddhist temple located in Phrae, Thailand. The temple features intricate design and religious significance, with a big reclining Buddha in the courtyard and a golden chedi. Adjacent to Wat Luang, it is within walking distance of other sites in the old city. The complex includes traditional Viharn and multi-spire buildings, along with numerous statues.
5 stars absolutely given here to this temple. Many things here make it stand out from the rest like the big reclining Buddha and especially the huge golden tortoise behind the temple. There are so many beautiful things here to see and you can easily spend 20 minutes here enjoying everything this temple ground has to offer. Definitely a must visit temple in Phrae

Beautiful and shiny. It's a must see when visiting Phrae town. One of the best kept temple complexes I've seen in a while. You won't be disappointed. Right down the street from a bunch of bars and nightclubs too. Which is handy if you wanna crush a few beers after your search for enlightenment.

A newer temple within the old city of Phrae that is simply gorgeous. There is a more traditional looking Viharn but next to it is a magnificent multi-spire building. A reclining Buddha is outside in the open. A new giant turtle is currently being added to the complex. It within walking distance of several other sites in the old city.

Wat Luang and Museum, located in Phrae Town, is a significant Buddhist temple with a rich history dating back to 829. The temple houses priceless artifacts such as old Lanna Buddhist images and a 500-year-old stone inscription. Very beautiful temple to visit in Phrae. Is it a must visit place ? Definitely yes. Here you will find everything from an impressive temple, big white Chedi, old wooden houses etc. I will define this as not being the most beautiful and spectacular temple ground in Phrae but still a must visit place when coming to this area of Thailand
Kasper H — Google review
Another ancient temple. There is an old gate that is situated inside the temple hall.

Nature & Parks
Mae Yom National Park, located in Phrae, is a hidden gem offering a serene escape into nature. The park boasts a lush teak forest and the tranquil Yom River running through its mountainous terrain. Spanning 350 square kilometers, it is home to diverse wildlife and offers various outdoor activities. Visitors can marvel at the Eng Mok Cliff's sea of fog at dawn and the unique rock formations of Kaeng Sue Ten in the middle of the river.
Small national park in Phrae with highlight attractions at Eng Mok Cliff with sea of fog early in the morning and Kaeng Sue Ten(แก่งเสือเต้น) with rocks formation in the middle of Mae Yom River running through it. Sea of fog can be found around winter approximately around November to January. Taking scenic route toward Lom Dong(หล่มด้ง) you should reach the scenic point just before the end of the road. The road is really winding but not too steep so it's a pretty easy ride. Tent camp and accommodation are around Kaeng Sue Ten area with small canteen available. I would recommend to come around November to December as the water is clearer, the air is cooler, and the trees are still green.
Wasan K — Google review
Covering nearly 455 km² across northern Thailand, Mae Yom National Park features the winding Yom River cutting through lush mountainous terrain of mixed evergreen and teak forest. Highlights include Dong Sak Ngam, home to extensive stands of towering teak; Kaeng Suea Ten, a natural river riffle perfect for camping and rafting (seasonal); and the enigmatic Lom Dong basin, which offers year-round water and scenic viewpoints. Wildlife sightings include elephants, serow, deer, wild boar, and diverse birdlife. The park offers basic amenities including a visitor center, campgrounds, and floating houses on the river. Open daily 09:00–17:00, with entrance fees ranging from THB 20 to 100 depending on nationality. Ideal visit season runs November through May, with foggy mornings and pleasant hiking conditions.
Meaw M — Google review
At least it’s only 100 baht per person but there’s not much to do here . Pretty view in terms of a nice river /rapids but that’s all there is . You pay to have river access but there is no hike or anything . We took the road through the park which eventually dead ended (it used to be another entrance to the park). There is rafting that happens here in certain seasons too but probably expensive ! Pretty area but not worth a detour

Caverns & Caves
Tham Pha Nang Khoi in Phrae is a surprising gem, with its 1.6 km length leading visitors through stunning stalactites and stalagmites that are steeped in local folklore. The cave is illuminated with colorful lights and features stops where you can learn about the legends associated with it. Legend has it that the cave was once home to a waiting princess, giving it its name.
I visited this cave 4 years ago but then it was closed down but now it was open to visitors. Parking on site is fine, and there is free access to the cave, and you organize yourself without guides. There is a short distance to walk, uphill with stone steps leading up to the entrance to the cave. For those who have slightly claustrophobic tendencies, there is an opening at both ends of the cave, so should something happen, there is an opportunity to get out. It was only me in the cave during my visit, and of course it was dark for the light to do its job. Narrow wooden bridges have been made to get through, where necessary, and it was a nice experience to get through the cave. As you can see from the pictures, I went out at the other end, before starting the return trip. In terms of photography, the darkness was a challenge for the camera, and a tripod would certainly have made the sharpness of the images somewhat better, but it was not available. The place is recommended for anyone who has the opportunity to visit, but the trip up and down from the entrance can be a challenge if you are not quite mobile.
John S — Google review
Interesting to visit this place. Love the limestone with water flowing. Guess it the iconic stuff to see inside the cave. The steps up to thebcabe was not nicely patched hence its might be challenging for some. Plenty of parking. Short climb to the cave. Plenty of parking area.
Hao T — Google review
The cave is absolutely beautiful! The entrance is free. Visitors should be aware of the path to the cave and in the cave. The humidity during monsoon season is very high and the stairs become very slippery. The path inside is slippery as well. The lights in the cave provide enough light to see around and to take pictures, and videos. There are not too many visitors during rain season.
Aleksandr B — Google review
Great free place to visit. The caves are amazing inside if a little worry some as they are so wide haha Nicely lit up and it was very quiet. It's completely unaccessible for anyone with mobility issues unfortunately due to the height of the caves and the very rough steps. Outside the caves they have labelled all the trees if you are interested in that. Not too bad a view from the top also.
Ant ( — Google review

We had a lovely time at this cave. The grounds are well maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful. The cave is currently dry and very easy to explore. There was a woman, working in the little store in the parking lot, who turned on the lights for us. We felt very lucky to be the only ones in the cave at the time. We also enjoyed feeding the animals there (Goats, deer, peacocks, ducks and chickens).

Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri is a stunning temple in Phrae Province, Thailand, showcasing exquisite Lanna art and Thai-European architecture. The temple features a large reclining Buddha and a blend of Lanna and Burmese architectural styles, adorned with captivating statues and elements. Despite occasional closures, it's worth visiting for its serene atmosphere and traditional beauty.

There are big conditions here, so it took some time, but I didn't see any other people during my visit. This is a magnificent temple, densely packed with impressions, over quite a large area. If you are passing by, or nearby, a visit is recommended. There is a huge parking space after the entrance to the temple.

An absolute must see if you're nearby. Although it is not an old temple it has many great traditional features. You will need at least 45 mins to an hour to fully explore all this complex has to offer. Make sure you climb the steps and explore the shrines at the top of the hill, they are incredibly beautiful.

What a beautiful Regional gym a temple that the Royal Family, both Kings have visited. It's a shame the monks do not take care and keep it dusted and cleaned. In the last three or four years they have really Let It Go. But it's still very impressive to visit

Everything was good except one thing that I got bothered at the temple. As soon as I got into the main hall of temple, a monk who was sitting on the left side called me right away (it was a hint that he wanted me to give money (even I had to put it in a donation box) to go to him first. I couldn't refuse it because I would have been a freak if I did that to him). I basically just wanted to quietly and peacefully paid my respect to the buddha image in the hall by myself.

Located in the Phrae mountains, Wat Na Khu Ha is a captivating Buddhist temple that stands out among the many temples in the area. It boasts a unique bamboo bridge spanning over picturesque fields and offers stunning views of its mountain, which contains two caves. Despite its charm and beauty, this hidden gem remains relatively unknown, rarely mentioned in guidebooks – even those written in Thai.
A local temple surrounded by the paddy field, with the bamboo bridge extended across the field, from the temple to a cave and the Hua Singha cliff. To see the green paddy field you should come in the rainy season. Not far from the temple, the U-Na cafe is a place for taking a break to have snack, drinks and food.

A temple with shrines for Buddhists, mai ktly the local farmers here to pay respect to nature and Buddha. Has a bamboo bridge that gives a view of padi field on both sides. A MUST visit place if you in Phrae.

It took a long way to this place but we did enjoy the whole trip. We were lucky enough to visit the temple at the best season of the year, not too hot, not too cold, the rice terrace was at its best beauty. If you come, try the noodle shop inside the temple. She cooks it very simple but the taste is so good and unique, same name but totally different from what we tried in BKK. In her shop, everything is only from 10-35bath.

Located in Nakhuha Village, this temple is nestled amidst the mountains and pristine nature of Mueang Phrae District, renowned for its top ozone concentration in Thailand. A key attraction is the large Phra Chao Ton Luang (Buddha image) or Phra Chao Tan Jai (Buddha image) that stands prominently amidst the lush green rice fields. A bamboo bridge, locally known as "Khua Tae," extends from the image to the rice fields, allowing visitors to stroll along the rice fields and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. 🌼A visit to Wat Nakhuha combines making merit and paying homage to sacred objects with relaxing moments amidst the beautiful surrounding rice fields and mountains. Visitors can walk along the bamboo bridge to capture the picturesque scenery, especially during the rice-growing season, when the fields are lush and green. Occasionally, mist can be seen wafting over the mountainsides, providing a sense of true peace and replenishment. The temple grounds also feature community shops selling local products and souvenirs, such as grilled rice crackers and grilled coconut shells. Located in Phrae Town, the Khum Vongburi Museum is a stunning pink-colored colonial-style teak house that was once the residence of previous rulers. The museum showcases old wooden furniture and decor, offering a glimpse into the elite lifestyle of bygone days. The exterior of the mansion is particularly striking, representing a beautiful example of traditional Thai architecture. Visitors can explore this well-maintained private museum for a nominal entrance fee and gain insights into the noble life from the last century.
Gorgeous house! Worth visiting, it was really interesting to wander around and look at the original furnishings and antique household objects. The ticket lady was really friendly and gave us both little notebooks with our ticket! The house is perfect for photographers. Like stepping into another time!

This is a Thai-European house in pink color. As soon as you arrive at it, you will want to take a memorial photo with the house as the background first. Say cheese! Then upload it to your social media site and tag your friends. Take your time and wander around the place. Don’t hurry. You will want the smell of the history of this place to be absorbed into your mind first. If you and your friends are looking for an antique tourist attraction to check-in, don’t hesitate to go to this one. It’s in Phrae Province. Khum Vongburi was built hundreds years ago, based on the idea of Lady Bua, the wife of Piriyathepwong, the last ruler of Phrae. She wanted to provide it as a wedding gift of Lady Sunanda and Prince Phongpibul. The house looks relaxing with its color. There are carvings all over it. There are two levels. You and your friends are allowed to get inside to see what’s in there.

This is simply a stunning example of old Thai architecture. The house is surprisingly large and offers a glimpse into the life of the nobles during the last century. The museum is well maintained and very well appointed. There was a young girl (daughter of tge owners I surmise) who was walking with some visitos providing explanations of tge different items/rooms. This is a private museum with an entrance fee of ฿20. Do not miss this one!

Wiang Kosai National Park, located in the districts of Wang Chin and Phrae, is a serene natural escape from city life. The park is home to various wildlife such as muntjac and flying squirrels. Visitors can enjoy woodland hikes leading to cascades and thermal springs. One of the park's highlights is the Maekoeng waterfall, surrounded by lush greenery. The management office on Route 1123 offers friendly assistance and camping options nearby.

A Hidden Natural Wonderland in Northern Thailand If you’re craving a true escape into untouched nature, Wiang Kosai National Park is an absolute dream. Located between Lampang and Phrae provinces, this national park is still relatively unknown to most tourists—which makes it even more magical. I visited recently, and it completely exceeded my expectations in every way. 🌲 Dense Forests, Waterfalls & Wildlife From the moment I arrived, I was enveloped by lush green forests, the scent of damp earth, and the sound of birds echoing through the trees. The park is covered with rich teak and mixed deciduous forest, giving it a wild, untouched feel. It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel connected to the natural world. One of the highlights of my visit was the stunning Mae Koeng Luang and Mae Koeng Noi Waterfalls—multi-tiered falls with crystal-clear water cascading over smooth stones. There are well-marked trails that take you to each tier, and though the hike can get steep in places, it’s absolutely worth it. The views are breathtaking, and the sound of water rushing through the jungle is incredibly soothing. 🐒 A Place to Breathe, Reflect, and Explore I was lucky enough to spot monkeys, butterflies, and a variety of birds during my walk. The biodiversity here is impressive, and because it’s not overly commercialized, you can really enjoy the serenity without crowds or noise. There are also cool viewpoints scattered throughout the park—some offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, others hidden deeper within the trees where you can sit and take it all in. 🏕️ Camping & Facilities If you’re into camping, Wiang Kosai has designated camping areas with basic amenities. You can bring your own tent or rent one on-site. I didn’t camp this time, but I’d love to return and spend a night under the stars—it’s the perfect place for it. There’s also a visitor center near the entrance where the rangers are friendly and can help with maps or tips on where to go based on the season. 🚗 Getting There The park is best reached by car or motorbike. It’s about an hour from Phrae or Lampang, and the drive itself is scenic and enjoyable, especially as you get closer to the park boundaries and the mountains rise around you.

The park supports rich forest ecosystems, home to muntjac, squirrels, diverse birdlife, and lush flora. Visitors can enjoy camping, guided woodland hikes, and swimming in natural pools. Facilities include a visitor centre, restrooms, simple food stalls, and camping grounds. Open daily from 08:00 to 16:30. Entry fee is approximately THB 200. Access is via Highway 101 → 11 to Wang Chin, followed by local roads. Ideal for peaceful nature escapes, forest bathing, and camping under cool northern skies.

Wat Phrathat Lampang Luang is a remarkable 13th-century Buddhist complex located in the Lampang Luang Sub-District of Koh Kah District. It is renowned for its Northern Thai Lanna style and houses numerous temples, including one that enshrines a relic believed to be a hair donated by Lord Buddha. The temple's pristine preservation showcases exemplary Lanna religious architecture, with minor renovations maintaining its original style.
Love this temple, very nice architectural elements and paintings, not to mention how beautiful their Buddha figures are. Parking lot was spacious and close enough to walk to the temple. All the merchants around were polite and kind.

An interesting and impressive display of magnificent structures. Plenty of various activities were performed. There were many visitors, some coming in tour coaches, while others flock in on foot or private transportation, to admire this marvel, or perform their rituals and prayers. The place was practically full of tourists that come from everywhere. Beautiful, and must see.

◽️Highlights & Must-Do: •Upside-down reflection of the stupa – Traditionally viewed inside the ordination hall (currently under renovation). You can still see it in the side viharn on the left; look carefully on the right-hand table once you step inside. •Circumambulation (Walking Meditation) around the stupa – The temple provides flowers, incense, and candles for offerings, for 20 THB for a donation. •Ancient Lanna murals – Located in an open viharn at the entrance, these are among the few surviving Lanna-style wall paintings in Thailand. •Bullet marks on the iron fence around the stupa, with interesting historical stories. 💰 Entrance Fee: 40 THB for foreigners.
Thanaporn C — Google review
On one hand it’s a must see of historical and cultural significance. On the other hand if you have limited time in Lampang it’s out of the way. A Grab from city center will cost you about 170-200฿ each way. Temple entrance fee for foreigners is 40฿ if the person collecting has change. The trip is about 30 min (over 20km) each way and you can see everything in less than an hour. So if you have 2 hours and 500฿ it’s worth going. Honestly it’s a bit underwhelming compared to other sights in Chiang Mai area. However, it is nice to stroll around and take in the ambiance.

Cute cafe on the corner. Service was very friendly. Prices are fair. Also selling homemade spirits which were very interesting. Taste of the food was average. You won't be impressed but you won't be disappointed either. By noon they had already run out of several major ingredients. Overall it was ok for a breakfast place. Maybe not enough to draw me back again although I would like to try the yogurt someday. Who knows? Maybe I'll come back. Food presentation was good.

The Gingerbread House B&B is a welcoming cozy stay with a wonderful downstairs cafe, friendly staff and family. The family taught us the history of some of the locally made white spirits and after a tasting session we ended up buying four bottles of different types !. As I type this review I am now on stage 10 of a 20 stage cycling journey from Chiang Mai to Phuket and we have stayed at ten different lodgings including high priced ones in some towns. None of them have left us with a feeling of wanting to return to one day except for the Gingerbread B&B which is why we are taking the time out to write this review - great place, great team, great ambiance.

Good: Short walk to street with food vendors; artsy rustic (teak board walls) room design; Boutique bathroom (for Thailand 5 stars); Good wireless; Relaxed Thai hospitality; Breakfast all day restaurant (not too expensive); AC very good; Easy ordering food and coffee to upstairs dining area or room service; Parking easy across street in police station parking lot Why only 4 stars? Room would be challenging to organize if you two large suitcases or a lot of luggage; A small microwave would be very convenient for reheating street food; A bit more expensive than many many comfortable places around town.

Unlike other reclining Buddhas found throughout Thailand, this one uniquely depicts the moment before the Buddha's passing, with his right hand resting flat rather than propping up his head.
There is a big sleeping Buddha at the back. Thai people pray to the sole for good wishes. Laying their head on to the sole to transfer their messages to Buddha and to receive the well wishes.

An okay temple to visit and I surely enjoyed my 10 minutes here but I still needed something this temple couldn’t give me. It’s beautiful and definitely worth a visit but it will never make it to a top 10 temple in this area. But if you are on a temple run of course you gotta see this also

This is a very historic temple dating back more than a thousand years. The oldest part being the 3 meter long reclining Buddha. Currently, under direction from the TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand), there are volunteers at the temple to assist visitors and provide explanations about the site.

Another classical, gold and red Buddhist temple in the city of Phrae. There is a 9-meter long reclining Buddha statue hidden in the shrine in the back of main building. Next to stupa, there are some ancient bells. You can also find some beautiful paintings on the walls to the left, just after crossing the entrance gate.
Miłosz R — Google review
It is an ancient temple - 1,100+ years old. There is a reclining buddha image separatedly situated behind the main hall which is special and different from other reclining buddha images in Thailand. This one represents the image at the time that the Buddha lay down before he passed away (you can find the difference by seeing at his right hand - flatting instead of supporting his head). It is a slightly different pose, and they claim that this is the only one image with the pose you can find in the country. At the temple, there was a person who was trying to advise me to do this and that which was fine and very kind of him, except when he was trying to forecast my past and my future. It was totally wrong. I don't know who he was, though.

Baan Thep Museum is a cultural attraction in Phrae, opened in December 2015. It features a collection of antiques gathered over 30 years by its owner, Mr. Thep. The exhibits include Chinese pearl inlaid furniture, carved wooden bookcases with ivory frets, Chinaware, brasses, armors, frog drums, Lanna bells, porcelains and ancient clocks.
hosts and the rooms are amazing. This also functions as a museum with different older things such as…. Yeah everything I might say. No matter if you stay here or not you should go visit this place and see this impressive collection this family has made for themselves and others to enjoy. If the front door is closed just ring the bell. I enjoyed 30 minutes here to see it all but there’s enough stuff here to keep you entertained for at least 1 hour
Kasper H — Google review
We had the pleasure of staying at Baan Thep for two nights and it was a fantastic experience. As soon as you arrive the family make you feel so welcome - providing any help, advice, or assistance you need. Breakfast is cooked for you each day (we had chicken with ginger and Pad Ka Pow) and the family provided us with some great tips of things to see and places to eat whilst we stayed in Phrae. The rooms are at the back of the property and the rest of the area is a museum with many wood antiques. We had great fun staying here (and learning some new Thai words) and will certainly stay again when next in Phrae.

Stayed at the hotel here. It was great. The family that owns the place take care of you. Worthy of a stop on a walk/bike tour of the town. Worthy of staying at over night.

The friendly builder's and owners' son showed me around the two museum rooms full of old interesting things. It became even more interesting when he showed me one of their hotel rooms and the amazing, sprawling wooden communal area for hotel guests. That part of the house doesn't look any more like only a house, but like an accommodating wooden organism where you can hang out and enjoy the ambience. It was cool and agreeable, and I was told that even in the hot season at noon it would be a cool, breezy space, thanks to well planned cross ventilation

Baan Thep Museum is a recent addition to the list of cultural attraction in Phrae. This private museum, opened in December 2015, features a collection of antiques which Mr Thep, its owner, has collected for more than 30 years. The exhibits include Chinese pearl inlaid furnitures, a carved wooden bookcase with ivory frets, Chinaware, brasses, armours, frog drums, Lanna bells, porcelains, and ancient clocks. In the main hall, there is a fine sculpture of Rama I, the founder and the first monarch of the reigning House of Chakri of Siam. The exhibition, as well as a teak wood house in which the museum is located, allows visitors to experience ancient Lanna history and culture.

Visitors can enjoy the lively atmosphere and find fresh produce as well as unique gifts while strolling through this vibrant local market.
I have been using this market since it opened because my relatives were the founders.
