Water Parks
Branston Water Park is a tranquil spot with dog-friendly paths, a visitor center, and abundant wildlife. It's part of the Burton at Trent Washlands and offers beautiful walks along the canal and gravel pits. The park features seating, picnic areas, and a children's playground. Visitors can enjoy feeding geese, ducks, swans, and other birds while taking in stunning wildlife like rabbits, foxes, fish, and frogs.
A lovely walk around the lake. We heard so many different birds and I found my new bird app added interest to the walk. Very relaxing and a friendly cafe at the end ( or beginning).
Lynda — Google review
Located next to the A38 (traffic noise is minimal and then only near the car park) the park offers beautiful scenery and several walking route options. It's possible to cycle to Barton Marina in about 20 minutes (or a good hour's walk) plus routes to many other local places and beauty spots. The Hub cafe offers an excellent choice of hot & cold drinks as well as great food (hot and cold). The new toilet block was long overdue but is ideal. There are plenty of fishing spots, plentiful parking and almost limitless photo opportunities.
Dave K — Google review
May 2025 This is a great place to take the family. There's a lovely cafe and two super clean toilets just by a large free car park. A well maintained path is good for walkers, runners, or cyclists and goes all around the water Near the cafe is an adventure playground and a picnic spot with several beaches. Branston Water Park lies just by The Trent and Mersey Canal, so you can do a spot of boat watching at a lock
Jeremy T — Google review
Great short walk around the pond, great food at the canteen with a couple of tables. Plenty of parking. Easy walk with clear path easy for elderly, zimmers and wheelchairs
Randall H — Google review
A lovely little secluded lake just minutes away from the main road. The lake is lovely and there's a nice walk around the lake which is around 1.5 miles and there are lots of benches all the way round either for a little rest or just to sit and enjoy the quiet. For anyone who enjoys fishing there are pegs around half of the lake which is for members only and some of the pegs are really spacious to set out all your equipment and at least 1 disabled peg. There are lots of ducks, geese & swans on the lake which are lovely to sit and watch. In the car park (free parking) there is also a little cafe selling hot & cold drinks, ice creams & snacks with a few tables outside. It's a lovely relaxing little spot especially in the sunshine.
Steph M — Google review
Great place to moor, good local facilities within walking distance, coop, Indian restaurant, pub! Nice walks around the lake and plenty of wildlife to spot.
Paul S — Google review
Large lake for a nice walk around, lots of wildlife with toilets, cafe and free parking too

Gardens
Stapenhill Gardens, situated on the former grounds of Stapenhill House, were gifted to the town in 1933. The gardens are known for their iconic concrete swan and vibrant floral displays. Visitors can also explore the nearby Trent Washlands or enjoy a boat ride on the River Trent aboard the charming 'Dingle Belle.' Despite some seasonal changes to flower beds and occasional issues with lighting, Stapenhill Gardens offers a serene escape within a bustling urban area.
Beautiful location for family visits. People of all ages will find a visit to this park relaxing as the garden is large and there's ample space for everyone to have a good time. Whether it's spending some time with the Swan at the water front, taking a walk in the gardens, having a picnic or simply spending fun times with your children at the playground. It was a beautiful experience and I would definitely visit again.

It's a Very nice park with lots of swans and geese. It has kiddies playground. The car park is very small, for about six cars? The smallest car park i have seen. But, i believe its free, at least i haven't noticed any pay signs.
Torrya E — Google review
It is a lovely clean and interesting place. Great to walk dogs with plenty of open spaces and chances for a swim. Lots of interesting things to see on your walk and parking was free. Picnic tables and benches everywhere.

Beautiful. Perfect place for a nice walk or run. Full of nature.

It's really a beautiful sight to be held. I could spend the whole day watching this pleasant scenery. The river flowing, the swans, the scene is so breathtaking. Nice, I love it!

Claymills Victorian Pumping Station is a fascinating museum located in Burton upon Trent, showcasing the engineering innovation of Victorian England. Originally built in 1885 to pump brewery effluent, it has been meticulously restored and now offers tours and talks for visitors interested in its rich history. The station is an integrated industrial site that provides insight into the area's brewing heritage, with plenty of space to explore different rooms filled with quirky items.
This was a fantastic museum to visit, showing the history of sewage pumping industrially! The pumps from across time are shown and it is detailed how they worked as separate parts in the process, or clogs in the machine should I say, featuring many different sizes and styles of pumps. More intense machinery from the process is shown too and miniature houses from the prime era are a neat touch, appreciate things like the mock coal wagon and boiler room too!
K. P — Google review
This was great! What these volunteers have achieved - mostly on a shoestring - is incredible. And I hadn’t known that, along with the historic pumping engines, Claymills is also home to the oldest working dynamo in Britain and, according to staff, possibly Europe. I’d recommend going on a steaming day (usually bank holiday weekends) to see the pumps in action. Nice cafe too!
George M — Google review
Visited on a steam rally weekend. Really enjoyed coming here. Make sure you go for the talk which explains the history of the station - very informative. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Plenty of space to move around and see the different rooms. Cafe had some tasty fresh sandwiches and superb cake. There is also a second hand book shop - some really good books in there. The engines in the main room are switched on at specific times. Lots of small rooms with quirky items. Man showing his apple collection was amazing. This is a great day out and really enjoyed it.
Hywel M — Google review
Steaming days are always the best. First-time visitor at Claymills, and I wasn't disappointed. A great welcome from the volunteers. They sure know how to lay on a great day. The usual facilities onsite and the cafe was great. It's amazing what the Victorian generation left us. A massive shout out and a round of applause to the volunteers that keep these amazing engines running. The smell and smooth running are fabulous 👌 I could have sat all day watching them run. For all steam engine enthusiasts, this is a must-see. It was great seeing the old vehicles, too😊 A perfect day was had by the three of us.
Lynn ( — Google review
A fantastic place to visit. We went on a non steam day, started off on a guided tour, which was really informative and at a nice pace, it wasn't rushed. After the tour time is your own. All the volunteers were friendly and very approachable, there's a lot to see here! A must for anyone with the slightest of interest, 4 beam engines, 5 boilers, a workshop, forge, dynmo house and more. Can't wait to go back on a steam day.
Pete — Google review
Visited on a none steaming day in April 25 with my motorcycle club from (Tamworth & District Classic Motorcycle Club) Tamworth. Great venue and an impressive living museum. Nice cafe. Expert guides showed us round the various parts of the pumping station. Very enjoyable few hours had by all.
Ultimate O — Google review
Fantastic Victorian industrial masterpiece to visit for all the family. Friendly atmosphere with knowledgeable volunteer staff. Steaming & non steaming days & events throughout the year. Open from 10am until 5pm. Recommended
John S — Google review
A hidden gem if you are into anything steam powered. I had no idea that this pumping station has the largest collection of working steam engines that all used to be from this area. The volunteers are really knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. We spent a good 3 hours looking at the various engines and machine rooms. Ask to see the bathroom!

Shobnall Leisure Complex is a sports club that specializes in athletics and offers track and field event facilities. They also have children's clubs available. On sunny days, people, especially girls, enjoy visiting Shobnall. They often ride bikes to get there and take advantage of the recently reopened paddling pool, which has a decent depth. The park is of an adequate size with plenty of fields for playing football or having a picnic.
Update: we are now gym members too (having joined a few months ago). The gym is great, quite small but it has all of the equipment we need. The staff at Shobnall are all great and it is a really friendly place. Still highly recommended. My son and I visited to play a round of foot golf on the course at Shobnall. We very much enjoyed it, the course was nicely setup, decently challenging and in good order. We found the staff in the centre to be very friendly, helpful and informative about other facilities at the centre. Highly recommended.

Lots of parking and decent facilities The gym looks a bit tired but there are hockey, tennis, skate, athletics and other facilities here.

Visited for an NHS event regarding having a check up on an ECG, blood pressure, diabetes, height, weight. Stands were available for more information on the above. Also NHS help to get on the NHS app. I can highly recommend anyone book when they next have the event. Plenty of people to guide you round, lovely and friendly, the place was immaculate too.
Pam S — Google review
Me and my girls love going to Shobnall on a sunny day, we tend to ride our bikes down there, they make good use of the paddling pool which has not long reopened for the season, it's a decent enough depth, the park is an alright size too. Lots of fields around to play football and have a picnic. There is also a water fountain in the building which you can use to refill water bottles and toilets which again were clean enough when we've used them. They also sell slushies, ice lollies in there, I can't comment on price though as I've never bought them from there. It's also walking distance to the canal for a nice stroll to see the canal boats and feed the ducks.
Kayleigh B — Google review
Worth the busy traffic to go to this park - free parking, lovely children's park with something for all ages and paddling pool - a favourite of ours on a sunny day.
Rebecca G — Google review
Kids always have a wonderful time at the park. Although it really could do with more seating for tired parents feet!!!!

Byrkley Park Garden Centre is a charming coffee shop that offers a variety of homemade dishes amidst an expansive garden center. The outdoor tables provide a relaxed setting, allowing visitors to enjoy the exceptional cleanliness and well-kept plants. With a wide range of goods available for sale and ample parking, this picturesque Staffordshire garden center offers something for everyone. The restaurant boasts plenty of seating and promptly clears tables, while the beautifully displayed cakes are both visually appealing and delicious.
Absolutely stunning place. There is a great selection available covering all things from plants to homewares to food. A lot of stuff is very reasonably priced too and there is something for all budgets. The garden centre is also dog friendly. The cafe is amazing, with a great selection of delicious food and drink. Again, these are all very reasonably priced. The Grow card rewards scheme is fantastic, and although there is an initial cost for the card, it more than pays for itself after a couple of visits. I would highly recommend a visit here. It really is a wonderful place.

First time visit today. Really lovely and the place is so well kept. Had a coffee from the cafe which was lovely. I don’t eat there but saw the food being served up and the full English breakfast looked fantastic. Will be heading back soon.

I recently visited Barkley park garden centre and was very impressed. The restaurant is a lovely big open space with plenty of options for food and drinks. There's also plenty of car parking spaces and 2 bays for coaches. If you have a few hours spare it's well worth a visit.

Lovely place with home made food and cakes. Lovely shop with great choice of clothes, shoes and plants. Very friendly and professional staff . Big car park. Highly recommended 👌
Iwona S — Google review
Went here for a browse and something to eat. Food took absolutely ages to come even though there was hardly anybody there and we had only ordered sandwiches. Very overpriced for some dry bread, one piece of chicken and a few ready salted crisps. One of the staff behind the counter was shockingly rude which just added to the not so great experience. All in all it’s a lovely place in a nice area but personally wouldn’t step foot in the cafe again.
Sian A — Google review
Went to the café at Byrkley Park Garden Centre for breakfast with my mother, and it was a very pleasant experience overall. The atmosphere was relaxed and cosy, and the staff were very friendly and hospitable. Although the hash brown and bacon were sadly very overcooked and hard, the rest of the plate was faultless and absolutely yummy. The tea was nice and piping hot—just the way we like it. But the star of the meal was the toast! It was our favourite part—warm, buttery, and just the right amount of crisp. We'd certainly return, if only for the toast and tea. A lovely place for a leisurely breakfast or a peaceful cuppa.
Leanna C — Google review
I would've given 5 stars, but after a recent visit today. I cant say i was impressed with the lunch i ordered. This place has normally provided decent meals. And i also appreciate that at times when places are busy, you know there could be a wait. But when your food finally arrives and its extremely disappointing 😕 The description was spicy bean chilli with cheese on a jacket potato. And i ordered some coleslaw at the price of £1.50 extra. Well i had to get a magnifying glass out to actually see the chilli. I think there must've been about a table spoon full on the potato. The cheese was one big lump which hadn't even melted properly. To actually have the cheek to charge £1.50 for the tinniest pot of coleslaw, you certainly are milking your customers. It's an insult. Chili and jacket potato luke warm. And my partner's roast was luke warm. It may be quite some time before we eat here again. Little Eaton far better.

Lovely little farm. My 3yo loved it, lots of animals that you can feed, rabbits you can hold, a great play area and sandpit too! Perfect for our little one, we shall be coming here more often 😊

Stunning petting farm, great space for the kids. Been over the years and most recently April 25. Clean and friendly place. Food is yummy and reasonably priced. Entry price is amazing and animal feed is very reasonable. Parking can get busy and full fast. No hills and appears easy accessible Definitely recommend
Annie — Google review
We visited here today (3 adults and 1 toddler). The food was nice and tasty. Staff were accommodating. The farm was lovely and you could see how well the animals are looked after. There’s a really good play area with a sand pit. It’s a great secure space for kids - as long as the entry/exit gate is kept closed! I can’t believe it took us so long to visit but I can most definitely say we’ll be back soon. Thanks!
Kate C — Google review
What a lovely place, definitely a little gem. Not been before and will be back. Good size place for little ones and love the outside play area too. We came for other little ones first birthday. Cafe is Ace, good selection of food and gorgeous cakes, very cute children's cutlery 😁😁
Tracy H — Google review
delicious food, rude staff, and not just to us, a general unwelcoming attitude, rather uncouth, bad H&S too, bucket and mop and wet floor on way to toilets making it dangerous to navigate and staff just stand and look this was at 4.20. they do not close until 5pm apparently. packing up ready to close from about 4pm onwards, customers just get in the way attitude. very strange have been here three times and the same each time. the children love the animals who are the saving grace and most friendly! I will add that the staff on the farm are excellent very chatty, helpful and warm.
Liz E — Google review
Lovely little farm and tearoom, ideal for a couple of hours. There's various animals from rabbits, guinea pigs through to alpacas and ponies. A large covered sand pit area, lots of little ride on toys, petting areas, a beautiful little library full of books and a little bench to read plus a play area too. Everywhere is well sign posted and information boards on the enclosures. There is a cafe / restaurant and gift shop available onsite. Staff are all very friendly. We enjoyed our visit and can recommend.
Andy S — Google review
Visited with our 3-year old yesterday, who thoroughly enjoyed the visit. A range of animals including pigs, goats, alpacas, pony's, chickens and ducks that can be fed, as well as rabbits and guinea pigs that can be handled with staff-assistance. A good-sized park with slides, climbing frame and ride-on toys for kids of all ages as well as a shop and cafe too. Well worth a visit.
Peter D — Google review
Really lovely cafe with plenty of veggie options and nice kids food too. The farm itself is small but perfect for toddlers or little ones. There's lots of animals to feed and stroke. We especially loved the rabbits and guinea pigs. There's a great play area (which we spent most of the time in as the kids loved it!) With lots of bikes/scooters and a massive sandpit. Plenty of outdoor space for picnics in the summer too. We will definitely be going back. Great value too.

I had a great time at Blackout Escape Rooms. I previously visited their "Cabin in the Woods" room and decided to try their "Candy Shop" room this time, bringing along a 9-year-old with four adults. All of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience as there was enough to engage everyone. The puzzles were well-suited for the theme and not too predictable.
We had a great time doing the Candy Shop room as mostly novices - three adults and one 10 year old. The puzzles were fun and kept us thinking, and everything worked and was clean and tidy. The staff were so friendly, welcoming and helpful - we're definitely going back!
Nick O — Google review
Really enjoyable experience today. This was not my first time doing an escape room but it was my first time at this location. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The escape room was enjoyable and flowed well. Everything was clean, tidy and worked properly. I have been to quite a few escape rooms with the others that I was with and this one was definitely one of the better ones! No complaints! We will look forward to coming back soon.
Siobhan E — Google review
The first time doing an escape room and it was a lot of fun. Did the cabin in the woods as a group of 5. Was a good challenge but escaped with 4 mins to go albeit with a couple of tips along the way. Time goes really fast while you are trying to solve each part of the puzzle and the jump scares do really catch you off guard. Would recommend highly and will be back to try some of the other rooms in the near future.

Boys had a great time doing Cabin in the Woods on their own (aged 13 & 14). Alice was a brilliant host and seems to really enjoy her job. Not too scary for that age group and they nearly made it out alive!

We escaped the Candy Room, which was perfect for families with younger children (ours are 13 and 7). Puzzles were suitably challenging but easy enough that the kids could easily get involved. Super friendly staff who are clearly passionate about what they do.

We had the best time! I rang and spoke to Darren before choosing which room to try first and he was great at offering us the best advice. Booked another one as soon as we completed it, excited to come back!

We played Candy Shop today as a family of 5 (children aged 9, 8 and 6). We all could help solve the puzzles and enjoyed every moment! Definitely worth booking! Free parking too.

The candy room was fantastic with plenty of treats to keep you going! Our kids loved it and Rachel was a great host! Can't wait to go back

A lovely art gallery based in Barton Marina on Thursday Doug Hyde was the guest Artist, it was a fabulous evening a packed gallery the fizz was flowing (very generous with top ups) & the pictures were selling as Doug was working around the rooms a great evening had by all

I visited here this afternoon with my parents after a birthday lunch at the Waterfront. All three members of staff were friendly and welcoming when we went inside the gallery for a look around, but I’d especially like to thank Helen who served us upstairs where we purchased a catalogue/book of the works of one of artists whose work is on display. Helen was cheerful, polite and showed a kind personal interest which really added to the occasion. The gallery itself has a wide range of styles from a number of different artists and so there’s likely to be something that would appeal to most people. I look forward to visiting again in the future. Thank you all for making my visit today an enjoyable one.

Jacksons Bank, situated between Birmingham and Bakewell, is a breathtaking destination that offers a serene and picturesque woodland stroll. The area boasts stunning landscapes and tranquility, making it an ideal spot for dog owners who can enjoy their pets frolicking in the pond and exploring the lush foliage. Although the car park is small but satisfactory, there are limited facilities such as toilets or cafes. Additionally, the lack of dog bins results in a regrettable accumulation of waste on the ground.
Magical experience in the snow , crispy crunchy underfoot leaf laden paths , past their autumn show 🍂 . Lovely 30 minute plus walk in the cutest little wood with running brooks and a pond. You can hear the calling of the birds and rustling of the branches with squirrels going about their daily tasks ! Picnic area with solid wood benches great for summer picnics or alfresco winter warmer ! ❄️
Tracey A — Google review
We stopped here on a journey from Birmingham to Bakewell, and it was stunning. A really beautiful, peaceful woodland walk with the dogs, who absolutely loved the pond, all the little streams and getting lost in the foliage! Small but adequate car park, with picnic area nearby. 4* because no other facilities (toilets, cafe etc) and a lack of dog bins meaning an unfortunate amount of waste left on the floor!
Kristy T — Google review
Love this place. Great little walk, plenty of opportunity to get off lead and explore. And a nice swim in the pond for the boys.
Andrew T — Google review
Good place to explore for a walk. Tall, mature trees , bit hilly, some paths a bit steep and gets very muddy in winter. Lots of little shallow meandering streams for the children and dogs to explore and splash about in. Picnic tables at the entrance. No toilets or facilities tho.
K B — Google review
Great place, perfect length for my dog with lots for him to explore and even a pond to swim

Lovely wooded area we came across by accident. Peaceful walk with no road noise. Cute little pond in the middle which is great fun for dogs.
Elie P — Google review
Stunning place for a walk. Incredible tall trees, long paths with a few steeper climbs but well worth it. A decent sized picnic area with benches Close to the car park. Also has a couple of bins for rubbish and dog poos. The small car park can get full at times so you may not get a space.

The best quality plants at good prices. Everything looks well tended and healthy. Helpful and knowledgeable customer service

We love this nursery. Fantastic helpful staff who you can ask for advice. Wide variety of plants, not the usual 'bought in' range offered at the larger nurseries. Time to browse round without being 'pestered'. Reasonably priced plants. Most importantly, it is wheelchair user friendly. 10 out of 10
Lesley C — Google review
A small quaint nursery packed with a variety of everything for everyone. I never walk away from this place empty handed , and without a smile which says alot for a Northerner !
Jason W — Google review
This nurseries normally have a good array of plants at very reasonable prices, in the growing season ofcourse. Not as big as a nearby competitor but definitely better priced. They're currently open and selling Christmas trees. Nice helpful people.
Nathan T — Google review
Delightful independent nursery. Good selection of plants including bedding, perennials, herbs, shrubs. A riot of colour at this time of year. Couldn't resist buying a teapot shaped planter. Will visit again.
Lynne B — Google review
Always so helpful and good quality plants. Very reasonable prices. They have always gone out of their way to find plants for me that suits a certain area. Throughly recommend.
Susie P — Google review
A hidden gem in our local area. Lots of variety for your average gardener, prices very good, parking for the car, trolley to load with plants and card machine available. Would definitely recommend. I can't believe I lived in the area for six years and did not know about it!
Vasilis S — Google review
Have used this nursery for about 20 years. The plants are only sold when the nursery man says they are ready for planting. Before my husband died 12 years ago we always collected plants from the nursery, since then I have to buy my plants from the Lichfield market on a Tuesday or Farmer’s market day because I don’t drive. I have also had hanging baskets delivered to my house. I would always recommend them to anyone, the plants are very sturdy ,cost effective, and the retailers so helpful.

First time walking in, but I have been looking at the front window display for a few days of impressive display of artwork .very decorative of different artwork products inside the shop. The staff are very welcome and helpful, so I brought the white decorative hare, and I will be returning and recommended to friends and family

I had an original painting framed here a few weeks ago as a gift for a friend, I was given loads of choice and support when choosing the frame, glass and mounts - the result was spectacular! I was so delighted to give the gift and the recipient was equally delighted to receive it. If you’ve got something special that you want framed I would definitely recommend this shop - top quality service.
Catherine B — Google review
Absolutely first class service, extremely friendly and an absolute hoot also. Very welcoming and so helpful and did a job for me there and then. I couldn't be any happier with the job done for me (as I stare at me newly framed pictures) excited to get them on the wall. In fact so happy I'm going back with more. Btw, very sensibly priced too.
