Perched atop a hill in Tortosa, Castell de la Suda, also known as Saint Johns Castle, offers breathtaking views of the city and its surroundings. Dating back to the 10th century, this well-preserved historical site has undergone various modifications over time. While visitors are not allowed inside the buildings unless they are hotel guests at the Parador located within the castle grounds, many appreciate the stunning panoramic views from this vantage point.
Spectacular Parador placed in the incredible Castle of Suda in Tortosa. Free parking, nice food, great views, big rooms, comfortable beds and very nice people at the reception, room service, waiters of the restaurant and watchers in the swimming pool. All of them are nice.

Tortosa Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Saint Maria, is a must-visit in Tortosa. The exterior is particularly impressive with its unique Catalan Gothic architecture and Baroque facade. Construction began in 1347 and was completed in 1757, resulting in a blend of two different architectural styles. While the interior ambiance is amazing, visitors should check for prayer times as tourists are not allowed during these times.
What an amazing find in a town i did not even know of until we visited. The cathedral is huge and worthy of a large city such as Madrid or Granada. For only €5 you get entrance to a huge number of things in addition to the massive and ornate cathedral. Well worth a visit, as is a wander around the rest of this lovely town by the river.
Stephen W — Google review
Looks like a very beautiful Cathedral, we got there just as it closed so unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to see inside but we got a nice couple of photos from this perch above the city; would definitely recommend checking it out if your in the area.
Pong L — Google review
We didn't get a chance to go in, but it looked really nice from the outside.

This place is absolutely gorgeous. The gothic elements are a sight to behold, the grandeur of that place... It is used for prayer, so tourists can't get in and disrupt mass. It is amazing.

Sieglinde C — Google review
Lovely old building a short walk from the town centre. Unfortunately I the day I visited it was closed to visitors so can not comment on the interior.

The Jardins del príncep is an incredibly pleasant and beautiful destination to explore, even during the winter season when the gardens are not in full bloom. This cultural landmark offers a multitude of attractions to see and enjoy, making it an ideal place for families with children. The helpful gentleman at the ticket office went above and beyond by providing assistance despite language barriers, offering brochures showcasing local attractions in both English and Spanish.
A really pleasant place to visit. Even tho we visited in December and the gardens not in full bloom, still a really beautiful place. Lots to see and explore. The kids enjoyed it too! The gentleman in the ticket office was extremely helpful (we couldn't speak spainish) he patiently helped and he showed us where to go/what to see, half way through the visit he came and gave us a bag full of brochures (which were in english as well as spainish) of local attractions. If in the area a must see!

Romantic place to visit with your girlfriend/boyfriend, very beautiful and peaceful place. Before you actually go there, check the time table when it’s open, I had bad luck and it’s was closed when I was first time there... Very close are free parking and local bars, also fantastic hotel Mirador. Definitely to be visited place.

It is good, the statues are interesting, if you like that kind of thing, it is nice. It is not a well documented "botanical garden" if you are looking to see huge varieties of plants

Xavi is great. He speaks no English (yet) but still went to great lengths to help us out. He is very passionate about the museum. The museum itself is very interesting, especially with the audio guide.

Tiny museum, literally just one room with little to see, even less English and even Spanish explanations. Definitely too expensive with 3 E. Perhaps better when there are any temporary exhibitions. It seems sufficient to watch the nice building from the outside.

It was time for a meal, and we headed to the Forn de la Canonja restaurant. As we passed by the Episcopal Palace in Tortosa, we noticed the open door and decided to take advantage of the opportunity. The first thing that caught our attention was the Gothic-style courtyard with its unique suspended staircase leading to an upper gallery adorned with pointed arches. We couldn't resist capturing this historical landmark through photographs.

It's not designed for tourism, and that's its charm, although it doesn't take advantage of the small wonders it hides that even the workers themselves don't know about, such as the Flamboyant Gothic doorway hidden inside, unique in Catalonia, along with the façade of the Sant Jordi Chapel located in the Palau de la Generalitat in Barcelona. (Translated by Google) The episcopal palace of Tortosa is one of the jewels of Catalan civil Gothic architecture. Built on the ruins of the Roman Dertosa – as confirmed by the archaeological excavations carried out on the site –, it was built at the beginning of the 14th century, and was already in the power of the bishopric. Despite the subsequent reforms – as can be seen on the main façade facing Croera Street, in its large rectangular windows – the building largely retains its medieval layout, centered on a typical Catalan Gothic patio, with its characteristic cantilevered staircase leading to a gallery of pointed arches. Apart from other rooms, the most notable is the chapel, located on the first floor and built by bishop Don Berenguer Desprats (1316-1340), whose coat of arms was sculpted inside. Its façade is framed between two large windows and is dominated by a Gothic image of the Virgin Mary from her tympanum, flanked by sculptures of four holy bishops, two on the jambs and two others on the columns that separate it from the windows, the four with their corresponding canopies. The rear façade faced directly to the Ebro River until the construction of the current Felipe Pedrell rambla in the mid-20th century.

On this occasion the author avoids the geometric decoration, ceramics and brick so present in his works, and opts for a freer composition in which curved lines overwhelm. The dynamism of the crowning with moldings, the continuous balconies and the windows and openings of various shapes are the backdrop where glass, wood, metal and sgraffito compete for prominence. The cherry on top is the three-level high wood and glass stand in the peripheral corner. Teatre Auditori Felip Pedrell is an exciting venue that has recently been undergoing renovations, promising a stunning transformation upon completion. Although I haven't had the chance to experience it in its full glory yet, I've heard wonderful things about the vibrant atmosphere and exceptional jazz performances that take place there. The energy during these shows is palpable, making it a must-visit for music lovers once the construction wraps up!

(Translated by Google) The only auditorium in Tortosa, large enough for the population with sporadic shows, but if a good play or performance is presented there, the local people sell out quickly. Good visibility from the stage and the sound is good enough. Good musical concerts with the jazz festival. In the summer, it's a bit cool on the top floor with the air conditioning....they turn it on and off constantly. During my recent vacation, I found myself at CAP El Temple, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations! Initially apprehensive after reading some reviews, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm hospitality of the staff. The clerk was incredibly friendly and attentive, making me feel welcomed right away. Even on a public holiday, the professionals showed remarkable empathy and efficiency in their service. It’s refreshing to see such dedication to patient care; they truly deserve recognition for their hard work!

(Translated by Google) I am completely outraged by this public health center. During my consultation, they told me they couldn't give me a regular Social Security prescription and that I had to pay for a private prescription out of my own pocket (the medications were basic ibuprofen and antibiotics). This is totally unacceptable in a public service to which we all contribute! After complaining and creating a very tense situation, three administrative staff members and another doctor came, and I managed to get another doctor to do what any patient should receive without problems: a regular public prescription. There shouldn't be any need to fight or generate stress to be given a basic right as a patient. I want to make it clear that I am Spanish! And that in the public health system in Catalonia (as in all of Spain), doctors in the SNS (National Health System) must be able to issue prescriptions for medications covered by Social Security when medically indicated. For a "professional" to tell me that I can only get a private prescription and pay for the medications myself (when they are basic and covered by Social Security) is CLEARLY malpractice and very serious!

(Translated by Google) They treat us like idiots and lie to our faces. I'm from another autonomous community, registered with Social Security, and due to circumstances, I've had to go to this center. The rest of us in Spain are treated like foreigners, and we get private prescriptions so we can pay the full cost of the medications at pharmacies. They claim we should go to the Social Security office in our autonomous community to request reimbursement, when Social Security should charge the prescription to our account and dispense them at any pharmacy in Spain with the Social Security discount. It's discrimination against taxpayers in other autonomous communities like a temple, and not only that, they lie to our citizens, ignoring protocols and treating us like foreigners. If you're Spanish, don't fool them and DEMAND SOCIAL SECURITY PRESCRIPTIONS WITH DISCOUNTED MEDICINES. Don't give them private ones, they're smart. We won't even talk about the administrative staff... asking for ID before the Social Security card... and with an incredible lack of empathy, not even if we had bothered them for working a little during their work hours.

Nestled in the heart of Tortosa, the Memorial Monument to the Battle of The Ebro stands as a powerful tribute to one of the most pivotal confrontations during the Spanish Civil War. This impressive structure commemorates a battle that raged from July to November 1938, marking it as the longest engagement of that tumultuous period.

An impressive structure that stands in Tortosa, Tarragona, as a reminder of one of the most crucial battles of the Spanish Civil War. Inaugurated during the Franco era in 1966, this monument stands out for its colossal size and its strategic location on the Ebro River. Over the years, it has sparked controversy and debate about its historical and symbolic meaning. Just as the monument stands as a symbol of a bygone era, Spanish beers have also left their mark on the country's cultural history. Imagine toasting memory and history with an Estrella Galicia in one hand, a Damm in the other, remembering the moments shared with friends and family. (Translated by Google) The Oliver de Boteller palace was built by this family at the end of the 15th century. The lineage is one of the most prominent in late medieval Tortosa and the 16th century, with two of its members becoming presidents of the Generalitat of Catalonia in the second half of this last century. The façade of the original palace is preserved, made of ashlar, crenellated and with a large semicircular arch door formed by large voussoirs – typical of the time – as well as, inside, the coffered ceiling of its noble room. Both elements were moved to their current location in the mid-20th century; Originally this façade opened to the Ebro near the Paiolet pier, a little above the market. On the other hand, the site where it is located today is where the old town hall of Tortosa was. Felipe II would have been housed in the palace in 1585, on the way to the Cortes de Monzón. Since then it passed to different families during the 17th to 19th centuries to, in 1881, become the headquarters of the Bank of Tortosa, the Teodoro González Recreational Club in 1895 and the Ateneo de Tortosa in 1905. It later passed into private hands, which in 1962 They reached an agreement with the City Council to move the façade to the new House of Culture, which opened in 1974, and was later used for other things until, at the beginning of the 21st century, after a major remodeling, it began to house the Department of Culture of the Generalitat in Tortosa. The old Font del Ángel, from the 15th century, was attached to its east wall, while in the west – towards the river – the plaque of the “taula de cambi” of Tortosa was embedded, in which the date of 1587 appears.

(Translated by Google) In the 16th century, Tortosa was one of the most important cities in Catalonia, and the Royal Colleges, a direct legacy of this period and built with the aim of educating the Moors, constitute the most important work of the Civil Renaissance in Catalonia It consists of three buildings that retain their extraordinary Renaissance portals. As it was the last Sunday of the month, it was free, but you could only visit the building of the church of Sant Domènec where there are informative panels and scenes with costumes from the 16th century. I was also able to visit the building upstairs, where the Comarcal archive is, but only the ground floor, very nice. It's interesting to see.

(Translated by Google) The foundation of a Dominican convent, with its study, in Tortosa was started by Brother Baltasar Sorió, reader of the cathedral, who got the general chapter of the order to approve it in 1528, with Pope Paul III issuing the founding bull in 1534. The convent – dedicated to Saints George and Dominic – was built in the middle years of the 16th century, with the year 1578 appearing on the façade. The Study became a university in 1600 by bull of Clement VIII, and in 1645 Philip IV granted it the privilege of royal university; Both things increased its prestige, turning Tortosa into a center of attraction for students from the entire Crown of Aragon. Baltasar Sorió is also at the origin of the neighboring College of San Jaime and San Matías, born in 1544 under royal patronage and whose objective was to acculturate the converted Moorish people. The Dominican convent, and its dependent university, began its destruction in the 19th century, with the War of Independence and its definitive exclaustration after the confiscation of Mendizábal (1835). Its successive fates, abandonment and the Civil War of 1936 consummated its destruction, with only its façade and the church surviving. This was the last building to be built in the complex, around 1585. With a single nave and side chapels, it is more late Gothic than Renaissance, a style that is reflected in its façade. It is presided over by a shield of Don Juan Izquierdo, Dominican, bishop of Tortosa (1573-1585) and collaborator of Sorió. Under the shield, an inscription: "Quam terribilis est loc[u]s iste non est alivd hic nisi dom[us] Dei et porta caeli"; that is: "How terrible this place is, there is nothing else but the house of God and the gate of heaven", which is what Jacob said (Gen. 28, 17) when he woke up from the dream in which he had seen the ladder. from the sky At the beginning of the 20th century it became the property of the Tortosa city council, which installed the municipal and archives in the former church. Since 2008 it has been the Renaissance Interpretation Center. The façade of the convent and study – dated 1578 – is presided over by a shield of Philip II and, below it, the inscription “Domus Sapientiae” – “House of Wisdom” – recalls its teaching function, while the shields of the order Dominica in the spandrels of the arch remind us of his belonging to her. Today it is property of the Generalitat of Catalonia and headquarters of the Territorial Services of the Department of Education and the Official Language School.

The lack of information upon entry can leave guests wanting more context about its significance; many would welcome guided tours to enhance their experience.

Pretty interesting place atop of the hill with nice view on the city landscape and the river with mountains. There's a hotel with a restaurant inside and a parking. The best place to see architectonics of the prominent Tortosa cathedral. Interesting road leads to the top of the hill, passing a couple of gates. I'd expect a bit more expressive castle.

(Translated by Google) The Gothic fountain, also called the Angel, was built – according to the inscription above – in 1440 by order of the city council, which commissioned it from the master Guillem Saera. Basically, what remains of it is the lunette and the Gothic inscription with the molding that surrounds it and the shield of Tortosa – which is believed to be the work of the city – supported by two angels. A few years later the fountain was crowned by the figure of an angel, which gave it its name. Originally it was a free-standing work that stood in the square today dedicated to Agustí Querol, whose previous name was, precisely, Plaça de la Font. The second inscription, located below the previous one, remembers that, in 1601, by the grace of the Tortosa city council, "foren restituïdes les aigües... les quals havia trenta anys estaven perdvdes" ("the waters were restored... which had been lost thirty years ago"). Dismantled in 1879, it was rebuilt – partially and attached to two buildings – in its current location in 1962.

(Translated by Google) The Brunet house, a corner building with ground floor and one floor, is located at the beginning of the modern extension. Built in 1913, it is an example, together with the house opposite, of the power and splendor of the Tortosa bourgeoisie at the beginning of the 20th century. The author, Jose M. Vaquer i Urquizú, who worked prolifically in Tortosa, knew how to give the palace original features both on the outside and inside. The access through the chamfer is topped by an elegant tribune that dominates one of the city's focal points: the intersection of Carrer Cervantes and Carrer de Sant Blai. The crowning of the tribune, finished with a perforated belfry, which stands out above the whole, as well as the predominant use of pediments, mouldings, pilasters and cornices give it a bombastic, overloaded, distinctly Baroque appearance. The wrought iron works on the balconies are also noteworthy. Inside, you must admire the access staircase and the hall, with skylight. The owner, Salvador Brunet, who lived in the flat, rented the basement to a bank that was requisitioned during the Civil War. Later, it was the branch of the Cots Academy. Currently, it is the seat of the Chamber of Commerce of Tortosa, which took charge of its restoration.
