Nature & Parks
Nordstern Park is a 247-acre green space offering a variety of activities for visitors of all ages. It features cycling and jogging paths, climbing walls, playgrounds, and an events amphitheater. The park is known for its picturesque location along the banks of the Rhein-Herne-Kanal, making it a popular spot for running and hiking. Additionally, it offers facilities for campfires and hosts events like concerts in its well-organized amphitheater by the river.
lovely place - once you get away from the main station Gelsenkirchen has lots of nice parks and places away from the grim crowds.
C.A. Z — Google review
Beautiful park with long large green grounds. Unfortunately very few trees meaning if you don't like burning in the sun you won't enjoy being there for long periods since there is barely any shade. Walking along the red bridge is stressful if you have small children due to many cyclists who drive fast and barely ring their bell. The big playground is ok not many play options for small children. They have three water stations in the sand box which makes it abit more exciting for the children during summer. It's still worth a visit.

Arena
Event venue
VELTINS-Arena, constructed in 2001, is a futuristic and visually striking soccer stadium that serves as the home ground for FC Schalke 04. The venue boasts a retractable roof system, making it suitable for various weather conditions. Additionally, it features a movable pitch that can be adjusted to accommodate football matches or musical concerts. Visitors can also explore the club museum within the stadium.
Nice stadium, lots of food and drinks stands, lots of fan shops, easy access. Great atmosphere at Schalke04's game.
Ilau A — Google review
This stadium is big enough for concerts but sadly enough not to help that many people. We had a very good experience in the last concert of Robbie Williams, the sound , service, and toilets were very clean. Everyone gets well checked before entering the stadium and there was no waiting line(we were kind of late) and there were still free parking spaces. The concert app advised us to use public transport and park out of the city but because of traffic that day we were forced to park at the stadium itself which made it a very unpleasant experience in the end. Food was nice and they have vegan/vegetarian options. Getting in the parking lot isn't fast enough because of traffic lights that aren't going on fast and getting out is another story. We had to wait more than 2,5h to get out of the concert and that happened because traffic became less at 1:00am. Except that the road you had to walk to the parking lot was full with people and for the first time I saw a walking traffic where people would walk so slow because was busy and there was no direction on other options to leave the stadium (at least not very clear). So my advice here is to park far from the city and walk/public transport so you'll know what time you want to be home on time.
Green S — Google review
Top venue for concerts too - went to see Bruce Springsteen and everything was very well organised. More bathrooms are needed - as an improvement point. They only think about men and football matches, but for other events, needs to be more inclusive also for kids and women.
ATF — Google review
One of the best football stadiums I've been to. Well organized and competent. Really good Currywurst & Pommes! Good sized portion, fair price, served quickly. Good seats with a good view.

We went for the PUR and Friends concert. It was awesome. Affordable drinks and snacks too.
Susanne M — Google review
I recently caught Iron Maiden at Veltins Arena and it was an incredible experience. This venue truly lives up to its reputation as a massive arena, perfectly capable of accommodating a huge crowd for such a high-energy event. The atmosphere inside was absolutely electric, and the layout offered great views making it a fantastic setting for a concert. Highly recommended!
Skulema N — Google review
Great game! The arena was easy to get to, and the atmosphere was solid. Beer was reasonably priced at €5 for 0.5L, plus a €2 deposit. Overall, a fun experience!
Baran Ö — Google review
The stadium was truly impressive, with an incredible atmosphere that made for an unforgettable experience at The Eras Tour in Gelsenkirchen. The venue itself is an architectural marvel, offering comfortable seating and fantastic views of the stage from all angles. The energy in the crowd was electric, with Swifties from around the world coming together to enjoy an extraordinary show. Facilities were well-maintained, with clean restrooms, although additional women’s restrooms would have been helpful given the crowd size. A few more friendly faces among the kiosk staff could have added to the experience, but overall, the event was exceptionally well-handled. The staff and security team did an outstanding job, ensuring everyone’s safety throughout the night. 🙏🏼

Historical landmark
Nestled in the charming Horst district of Gelsenkirchen, Schloss Horst stands as a magnificent testament to Renaissance architecture. This historic castle, one of Westphalia's oldest structures, was built in the 16th century and is renowned for its impressive four-winged design. Visitors can wander through beautifully restored halls and explore a museum that delves into the region's rich history.
It has a library and it is also the place where people can get marry legally, it have many floors, a place with a Cristal ceiling and also a coffee place

This was my second time visiting the place and both times we were welcomed by a very nice and friendly stuff. Last time, we were almost the only ones in the whole castle, but as I was with the children below 6 years, I realised that exhibition in the basement was a bit scary for them. At least my 5 year old did not understand why people would live like this back in the days, it was also kind of dark and dusty. A bit creepy with all the rats and mice. Other then that, it was rather educating.

Museums
Nestled in the charming city of Gelsenkirchen, the Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen is a stunning blend of history and modernity. Housed in an elegant Neo-Baroque villa complemented by a contemporary glass extension, this museum specializes in 19th and 20th-century art. Although it was established only in the 1950s, it has quickly amassed an impressive collection featuring works from renowned artists like Lovis Corinth, Max Ernst, and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy.
Great collection of classic modern and kinetic art wrapped in a surprisingly beautiful blend of 19th century and 1980ies architecture. Frequent contemporary exhibitions and performances. Great staff in both museum and café.
Stefan M — Google review
Tge entrance is free and in downstairs there are science arts, the staff can explain you if you re good Deutsch sprachen but as like me not good in Germany only option will be looking around by yourself . And there are no app, and all art has german little expaination. One of staff told me about tablet but i dont know. In upstairs there are some gallery, you might like it. The tour is between 1 2 or half hours, and if you alone planning to travell here, just be with someone or this place is little bit boring for some people.

Theme park
Water & Amusement Parks
Amusement park
Movie Park, located in Bottrop-Kirchhellen, Germany, is a popular amusement park with a movie theme. Divided into seven Hollywood-themed zones such as Hollywood Street Set and Nickland, the park offers a variety of family-friendly and thrilling rides, live shows, mazes, and audiovisual attractions based on famous movies and TV shows. Visitors can enjoy 4D cinema experiences like Ice Age or explore mazes inspired by The Walking Dead using real sets from the show.
We were a group of five visiting Movie Park Germany on a public holiday, and we arrived around noon. Before entering, there was a thorough security check, which I found very reassuring—it made me feel safe throughout the entire day in the park. Inside, you can find a variety of restaurants, snack stands, and sweet stalls offering treats such as crêpes, churros, gummy bears, fries, and pizza slices. There are also plenty of restrooms located conveniently around the park. Movie Park Germany is a fantastic destination for families with young children, but also for groups of friends or adults looking for excitement. The park features several roller coasters, ranging from family-friendly rides to adrenaline-filled thrill rides like Star Trek: Operation Enterprise, which even launches you backward, and Van Helsing’s Factory, a dark ride coaster with sharp turns. The safety measures on all attractions are excellent, and staff are very attentive. Since we visited during the Halloween Horror Festival, we booked two of the horror houses: The Hell House and Blood Moon: The Trailer House. Both experiences were intense, immersive, and absolutely worth the extra cost. The Halloween theming across the park was very detailed and atmospheric, with actors, decorations, and special effects adding to the experience. The only downside was that the groups in the horror houses were admitted too close together, which sometimes broke the illusion and caused a bit of crowding inside. One thing to note is the parking situation: there is no payment machine directly in the parking lot. You need to purchase your parking ticket inside the park before returning to your car. As the distance between the parking area and the park entrance is not very short, it’s definitely easier to buy the ticket in advance before heading back. Overall, Movie Park Germany is a great choice for a fun day out, whether you love thrill rides, entertaining shows, or seasonal events like Halloween.
MAnA M — Google review
Very nice themed park. My kids (8, 12 and 18years old) all had a great day with the rides and shows. Not completely five stars though. The drinks are quite expensive. The food is reasonably priced. So a tip is to bring your own drinks. Further more, all rides close half an hour before closing time and some only open at 11 even though the park is open at 10. But all in all a great day out. The park is not very big in lay-out, so it is easy to go from one place to the other. Also the waiting times are not ridiculously long as in other parks.
Dave G — Google review
We had purchased the tickets at a discounted price of 29€ and visited on Saturday. We reached early at the opening time and were lucky to not face long queues at most rides. Best thing about this amusement park is that it has rides for all age groups so no one feels left out and most of the rides are super fun. We loved it to the bits and would happily visit it again.
Sweta K — Google review
Make sure you buy your tickets online and not at the gate as you’ll save about €20. Had a great day, did lots of attractions in only a few hours. Studio tour the ride was our favourite with some great theming and effects. It’s a fun park but for someone who’s done many Disney and Universal studios parks it lacks a little in its up keep but I don’t think that’s the parks fault but likely down to the guests as some of the details in the ques look quite worn down.
Cieran B — Google review
Very nice theme park in Germany. We been there with my colleagues last spring. Its not so big place but the attractions were compact and you can go in every rides for whole day. Its not also crowded and you dont need to wait for long lines to go in every attractions Also the rides are exciting and fun.
Cheryll C — Google review
We had a family trip to the movie park. It was an amazing experience. Suitable for all ages. We were. Group of adults, a 5 years old, and a 10 years old. Everyone had an activity suitable for their age. From breathtaking rollercoasters, to family shows, to kids plays. The best thing was that we didn't need to stand hours long on the queue for each ride. Highly recommend!
Lara B — Google review
This is the best adventure experience I’ve ever had in my life so far. No words to express my excitement and joy. I enjoyed it a lot. I hope to go there someday soon again.
Kalpani K — Google review
I went on a Sunday with my boyfriend and, even though it was full, it was an wonderful experience! I recommend bringing your own snacks and drinks because everything is very expensive here. One suggestion - put the maximum heights in ALL the attractions. My boyfriend is 2,06m tall and he found, sometimes after waiting 45 minutes in line, that he couldn’t fit the attraction cars (even though they didn’t have a maximum height published at the entrance).

Zoos & Aquariums
ZOOM Erlebniswelt Gelsenkirchen offers a unique experience, allowing visitors to embark on a journey through three distinct adventure worlds: Alaska, Africa, and Asia. Spanning over 30 hectares, this expansive zoo provides a natural habitat for more than 900 animals across 100 species. Families with young children will find it especially enjoyable, as there are playgrounds and boating activities available.
ZOOM Erlebniswelt in Gelsenkirchen is one of the best and most immersive zoos in Germany. The park is divided into three themed areas—Alaska, Africa, and Asia—each designed to replicate the natural habitats of the animals. The enclosures are spacious and well-maintained, giving animals plenty of room to move around, which enhances the visitor experience.
Sidorela G — Google review
It’s an animal park without animals. Maybe it's a nice park in general, but I didn’t see any animals. It was quite a warm day — 27 degrees — so maybe they were all inside? But I didn’t see them in their shelters either. I barely saw any animals at all. The water in the park was very dirty, and I’m worried the water animals might get sick from it. One nice part was the boat ride through the safari area — that was enjoyable. But overall, I don’t feel the need to come back to this animal park. These three photos are all that I could get today. It is terrible to get a parking place, so be there early
Kylie J — Google review
One of the best organised zoos you could visit. Well-structured, safe yet with easy access to the animals. You don’t even pity the poor animals since it’s rather an open-air home they with some exceptions of course. Overall, great place to visit and even spend the whole day at.
Nawras H — Google review
Amazing Zoo and experience. Staff is super nice. However negative was that they lack events or shows. Another thing was that the food and beverage prices where bit steep for the value. And a lack of information on the animals within their habitats. Over all though I would visit again. Lots of fun for kids.
Marcel D — Google review
Great zoo! Themed areas, nice enclosures and a lot of playgrounds. Cons: price of food/drinks, toilets aren't clean.
Daphne — Google review
Ist really big! So better if you start in the morning... Otherwise I can not see the entire place with kids. A lot of playgrounds. They will take a lot of time too 😉
Riddick 8 — Google review
The best zoo I've been to for many reasons. Most importantly, an enormous effort has gone into creating the right environments for the different animals needs and this is evident in the health of the animals we saw. This would have been a beautiful woodland walk if there had been no animals at all! The circular routes, facilities, toilets, cafés are very well planned. It is wheelchair and dog friendly. Fantastic experience.
Patrick H — Google review
A little zoo where you stroll from the entrance to the exit, following a path that brings you to different animals, classified by their continent of origin. It’s a big park quite popular among families with young kids. Close from Essen, with enough parking areas, this zoo offers an interesting view on familiar and less familiar species. I usually avoid zoos because they’re exploiting animals for profit and let them live in poor conditions. Here, it looks like most animals have enough space to move and are well treated, with a few exceptions.

Nestled in Gelsenkirchen, the Musiktheater im Revier is a stunning glass-walled performing arts venue that has been captivating audiences since its opening in 1959. This architectural gem, recognized as one of the most significant theaters from the post-war era, boasts a striking cube-shaped facade and two distinct halls—Grosses Haus and Kleines Haus. Inside, visitors can marvel at six impressive reliefs by renowned artist Yves Klein, showcasing his iconic blue hues.
Large lobby area with lots of light. Friendly staff and pretty easy to find your seat position, even though I don't speak German. Views of the stage are good and sound quality goof.
Richard M — Google review
Went to see the Dernière of Hänsel & Gretel. Typical public/theatre building (somewhat old fashioned in structure, design and amenities.) The play was good, production quality was decent and the main actors played their parts well (although I felt the voice of Hänsel was a tad too piercing over the orchestra). Kudos to the actor who played the witch. One issue with the theatre is, the building design is not for people with disabilities. You are depending on a wheelchair or walker, you'll have a tough time.
Otto N — Google review

It's a place worth visiting for the architecture alone: a stunning building. Speaks volumes of the former glory of Gelsenkirchen, while the city now seems to be circling the sinkhole, this gem still shines. Theatre, ballet, opera and concert productions are fewer than they used to be but I still go every time I am back in my old home town of Gelsenkirchen.

Let me start that's not a bad museum, the amount and quality of stuff, especially the geological is top notch. It's just not what you would expect from something located in a UNESCO site in a coal washing plant. Especially since, when you enter one of the longest escalators you will see in your life and arrive at the entrance level you are greeted with some cool looking industrial stuff. You feel like you actually went back in time and entered the factory, then there are stairs, that are mysteriously glowing in an orange color. All of that bursts like a bubble when you enter the permanent exhibition which is using almost nothing of the the place itself or the industry that was located here. Of course there is a whole floor dedicated to the Ruhr region history nowadays, and at the bottom when there are the history sections where you can see some environment damages and machinery that was used in old times. It's all about the Rurh region, but why not use this whole UNESCO complex you have here? Use the transmission belts to travel between the buildings and the exhibits. It's not like you would have to build them, they are there, you can even see them through the glass doors. Show some coal mining and coke production, not with a movie, hidden somewhere in a corner, but with lights, moving objects and sounds... something that would keep the feeling you have at the entrance. There are guided tours that show a bit more, however unless you are interested in the history that you could read on your own, there is little to see on those. I am actually mad at the wasted potential of this place. It could've been something that's one of a kind in the world, with this preserved site and what you get is a good museum for a middle school trip.

I spent seven hours browsing the site and the museums, and even then there were more things to see! The main museum has three floors of various expositions, from the ancient history of this region to the modern times, plus industrial artifacts, paintings, books, and more. There is an observatory platform to see the area from above. There are several tours in German and English. The English tour took us to the coal plant where we learned a lot about the mining operations of the past. I recommend coming as soon as they open (10:00 at present) to easily get tickets for any areas that require them (several areas are free). You can easily spend the whole day there! The museum has elevators to make it accessible. However, for the plant tour make sure to ask, because our route involved many stairs. There is a café, book & souvenir shop, and plenty of restrooms in the museum building. I highly recommend! Don't think about it as "just a coal mine" - this is a phenomenal museum of natural history, industrial history, and stories of the people of Rhine-Ruhr over the years. Plus, the territory of Zollverein has many other activities to explore.

The Ruhr’s entire story under one roof! Located in the iconic Zollverein Coal Mine Complex, the Ruhr Museum takes you on a journey from the region’s geological origins to its industrial boom and cultural transformation. The exhibits are beautifully curated, mixing fossils, minerals, historical artifacts, and powerful photography. The industrial setting adds atmosphere — riding the massive orange escalator to the entrance is an experience in itself. A must for anyone wanting to understand the Ruhr’s soul.

Stumbled upon this unique location before heading home. We walked around and did a tour on our own. We made some cute photos in the booth and made a souvenir coin. Always nice to learn some history.

A very good museum! It's actually huge, and tells stories not only about the site itself and the industrialization of the Ruhr area, but about geology, history and geography as well. Plan several hours for the visit.
Slobodan E — Google review
The Ruhr Museum is really an amazing place. It is located in a building of an old coal mine, and a lot of the original equipment was kept there, which creates very interesting atmosphere. The exhibitions are very diverse. There is a history of the region, the history of Germany itself, as well as archaeology and nature. The exhibition doesn't become boring because it keeps switching your attention from one aspect to another. They also didn’t forget about coal. There are many different types of coal presented. I didn’t even know there are so many types of it! Overall, it is a great museum and highly recommended to visit.

Essen Minster, also known as Essen Cathedral, is a historic Roman Catholic church located in the Burgplatz. Originally built as an abbey in the 9th century, it is considered one of Germany's oldest cathedrals. The cathedral treasury houses a significant collection of religious artworks, including a golden Madonna statue. Managed by the cathedral chapter, the treasury chamber preserves liturgical implements and objects still used in the service of God to this day.
The most beautiful church I ever seen. What really impacted me was the krypta. What a magic place I went down 4 times just to look at the serenity of this place. Wish I had a chance to enter and meditate there. The surroundings were peaceful and clean I just love it

Top and perhaps the only place to see in central Essen. Golden Madonna is magnificent. There are few more pieces of art surviving. Otherwise, the cathedral is quite empty- I guess due to the bombing campaign during Second World War.

Damaged in WWII but rebuilt this is a lovely church with a historic Romanesque west end resembling Aachen, with a gothic nave and apse. It has the famous Romanesque golden Madonna (behind grates and glass) and an equally old giant candle holder. The old crypt was closed whenever we visited. There are many interesting modern features too, I particularly loved the Buschulte (I think) stained glass in the nave and choir. Guessing late 1950s into the 1960s? Outside there are modern bronze doors, also very interesting - look out for poor John the Baptist's head and Salome. A nice quiet cloister on one side and large square on the other with wonderful plaited trees and a nice fountain. Also a modern statue of Alfrid, the founder. No tickets needed but check for when the services take place. We went for a lent musical meditation which included baroque organ music as well as some liturgical elements.

The Rungenberg dump in Gelsenkirchen is more than just a suitable location for a relaxed and slightly longer walk. It offers an enjoyable experience, especially during late spring or summer, with refreshing breezes at the top. The trails are also perfect for activities such as jogging or cycling. However, the real highlight occurs in the evening or at night when the headlights illuminate the area, providing a mesmerizing sight.
It is extremely beautiful at night, although the path is a little dark. If you're going in winter then cover up properly as it gets very cold up there.

(Translated by Google) The Rungenberg dump is definitely worth another visit. Getting there by bike is very easy via the nearby railway lines and well-developed cycle paths. Once you have reached the top of one of the two halves of the pyramid, a magnificent view of the Ruhr area awaits you. It's just a shame that there are no garbage cans in the dump and therefore there is garbage on the floor on the benches that have been set up. Museum Folkwang, located in Essen, is a renowned cultural institution that boasts an extensive collection of European art from the 19th and 20th centuries. Originally founded in Hagen in 1902, the museum moved to Essen in 1921 and has since expanded its collection to include masterpieces by prominent artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, Kandinsky, and Klee.
A well maintained and beautiful public museum. Apart from the permanent exhibition, there was also "Frau in blau" temporary exhibition. The highlight is Van Gogh's paintings kept in the permanent exhibition.
Prathmesh W — Google review
Enjoyable experience of modern art (the 1860s to the 1970s) with informative notes. Includes Dali, Magritte, Van Gogh among many others. I particularly liked various installations. A leisurely stroll through the exhibits took me about two hours, but I can imagine spending more time in this museum, especially because the photo collection was closed at the time of my visit. The main collection is open for free. There is a café-restaurant on the terrace next to the museum. The museum shop has gifts and a lot, a whole library worth of art books. There is also an actual library (reading room) to sit and study art books.
Natalia P — Google review
Te permanent exhibition is free. You can find art from Andy Warhol, Monet, Van Gogh, Degas, Renoir, Mondrian, etc. And many contemporary artwork. If you want to visit the temporary expositions. You can buy your ticket in the entrance :) Also, the museum shop has interesting stuff to see or buy 🤩

I love this place. The William Kentridge exhibition was exceptional, but the collections hold some gems too (Matisse, Gauguin, Nam Yune Paik, Rodin, Mondriaan) and well curated. We came with our 6 year old who’s not very interrested in art and still spent 3 hours! The museum shop has a great book selection.
Minke H — Google review
Architecturally the building is amazing. The permanente collection is overall pretty good, has quite a few contemporary masters and some interesting minors particularly from the Neue Sachlichkeit and I did not pay. But really need a curatorial overhaul, thematic rooms are maybe good for kids, not for a thinking adult. In particular if the themes are so abstract and the paintings do not speak with each other. Also you can’t put Braque and Picasso right beside a festival poster. I found very interesting & cool the scoring system for paintings’ provenance during WWII, to rank how clear or murky their history was. I wish the same would be done for the “exotic” pieces they have but I guess we would see a lot of red dots. The staff were incredibly friendly and the temporary exhibition was interesting and well curated.

The Red Dot Design Museum, located in a building redesigned by Norman Foster, showcases the finest contemporary product designs from around the world. Situated within the Zollverein Complex, it celebrates industrial design breakthroughs and houses over 1,000 products that have received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award. The museum is dedicated to excellence in design, functionality, and innovation. It has been recognized as one of the top design museums globally and features everyday items that have become iconic due to their exemplary designs.
The Red Dot Design Museum is a fantastic spot for design lovers! The exhibits showcase award-winning products and innovative concepts from all over the world, from clever everyday items to visionary designs. The museum’s industrial-chic setting complements the modern displays and adds to the experience. I’d recommend giving yourself about 2 hours to really take it all in—you’ll want to explore each piece. One thing that could be improved is the signage; it was a bit hard to find the entrance, so clearer directions would help. Also, while the museum shop is decent, it didn’t quite live up to the creativity of the exhibits—could be a bit more exciting. Overall, though, the Red Dot Design Museum is a unique and inspiring visit for anyone curious about the world of design
Charlotte B — Google review
The Red Dot Design Museum in Essen is a hidden gem, especially if you love design, creativity, or just seeing cool stuff. It’s located in a former coal mine, which gives it this incredible mix of industrial history and cutting-edge innovation—a great setting for showcasing award-winning designs. From Apple and Nintendo’s evolution to kitchen gadgets you never think twice about, the museum makes you realize how much thought goes into everyday objects. The best part? You can actually touch and test out many of the exhibits! I had way too much fun spinning in a designer chair and checking out futuristic furniture. What I was missing was a bit more explanation added to the displays or maybe one sentence fun facts on why this design is special - sometimes it was difficult to know without googling what I was looking up or why should I care. Oh, and if you’re on a budget—Fridays are “Pay As Much As You Want” days! Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
Anja F — Google review
I will start by saying that the Red Dot museum IS worth visiting. However….some feedback and notes for fellow visitors. Though there are some cool state of the art or certainly interesting items, I’m sorry but a “control system” or “car part” does not engage (key word of the day…) or inform me what in Earth it is for, good for them for earning a “design award”. A few videos are more helpful but besides being able to touch some things and sit on some chairs, for things to either be functional or actually explained! Also, for some of the items that can be “tried”, it’d actually be nice to be able to leave feedback on their design or functionality because I’d certainly never buy a modern Chinese fridge that’s impossible to open. Maybe some things are already out for sale in Beijing or Finland but a lot does not leave a wow impression from having plainly seen it at the museum. The cashier is friendly and knowledgeable, and I’m not saying the museum has to sell its soul to the corporations making these products, the wow factor should be the premises of finding out what innovation is

That's fantastic place for everyone who is interested in art, design and industrial architecture. I've visited it multiple times and will definitely visit again. Surrounding area is quite vast so prepare yourself for long walk if you want to explore entire complex.

It's fun.... But I also found myself asking, (as a designer), "why did [this] win a design award?". As many of the products did not take into account usability at all. Washing machines that hurt my hands to open (and would be near impossible for those with large hands), designs that were unintuitive to figure out. It seemed more like awards for aesthetic beauty-- rather than innovative, functional or overall good designs (which I expected).

Fantastic railway museum with lots to see! A MUST-VISIT for any railroad enthusiast but also great to see for kids and families.

Historical museum. You need about 30 minutes max to go through all but its very interesting. Description is also in english. The ticket costs 9,50 euros.

Very interesting railway museum located in a preserved maintenance facility. The exhibits include a wide range of German railway equipment, many of them consisting of a representative selection of steam engines. The feeling of being on an active old marshalling yard is preserved by the train rides on the adjoining line and the many preserved buildings and facilities. A must for railfans.

Freizeitpark Schloß Beck is a charming amusement park located in the Kirchhellen-Feldhausen district in Bottrop, Germany. Situated within the grounds of a Baroque stately home dating back to the 1760s, this park offers a delightful experience for families with younger children. The historic Schloss Beck serves as an elegant backdrop for the theme park, providing a unique setting for visitors to explore.
Greate place for family with a children (we have a 3 years old daughter). She was allowed to go to the all attractions. Except 3 or 4. Thre are a lot of attentions which are interesting for adults as well. You can change 1 euro coins at the enter and also get a map of the park. Unfortunately boats and catamarans do not operate. Most likely due to the fact that the lake is drying up and there is little water in it.

We had an amazing time at Schloss Beck! It is large enough for the kids to have a fun day and small ebough to let the kids run around without having to stay on top of them. The nature path in the back was a lovely surprise! We will be back!

I recommend it for family with young children, no crowd on weekdays. Adults can go on rides with kids which makes it ideal if kids are scared/reluctant to try. There is even small lake to go boating.

Well worth the price! Paid 64€ for 2 adults and 4 kids , The park itself was really good in my opinion, quite a lot of self service rides which could be potentially dangerous in my opinion especially when you have parents that dont care what there kids do. The staff i met where friendly and helpful. The price is 100% good for this park , brilliant for small children.

Nestled in the Buer district, Propsteikirche St. Urbanus stands as a testament to centuries of history and architectural beauty. Originally established in the 11th century, this Neo-Gothic marvel was reconstructed in the 1890s to accommodate a growing population during the industrial boom. Visitors can admire its striking design while reflecting on its past, including scars from World War II that have shaped its tower's current height.

Breakfast was fantastic with freshly squezze orange juice, cooked breakfast, fresh rolls pastries, meat and cheese. The waitress was amazing!!

This brunch is in my opinion is not worth 39 euros per person. The food is edible but there's no wow factor. I also didn't appreciate the fact that the chefs tending to the buffets had dirty aprons on. I was a chef 👨‍🍳 for 16 years and that's definitely a no no. Get it together guys where's your professional pride? I found the service personnel to be friendly enough and the location was good 👍. There's a great deal of room for improvement here. Maybe I will come back and do a checkup in a few months 🤔.

This used to be a great place to eat out - gorgeous surroundings and beautiful old building. Unfortunately the quality of the food and the value for money is not up to date anymore (plus the interior is rather old fashioned but if the food is great I would not say anything!). In our group of seven two of beef filets had to be returned as they were well done rather than medium rare. My pasta with prawns had 2.5 prawns and was overcooked - I could go on. We gave feedback to the kitchen and the head of restaurant who was thankful for our comments after coming a few times a year, however I don’t think we’ll come back anytime soon.

Great idea. Well-kept place. Just no seating in the traditional sense, for example for seniors. Otherwise you can sit on rocks. But it's ideal for a different kind of walk. It's something different than taking the dog into the forest, etc. There's not much crowd in the morning or before midday on weekdays. (Original) Toller Spaziergang. Very large artificial rock, beautifully arranged, invites you to take a break. There are no benches, but there are rocks to sit on and I was lucky the chill music was playing! To then listen to the music for a while that I knew nothing about! I was just guessing where it came from, a really good idea in the rock, I was there on my bike all alone, but there was no sign of the beautiful place at the bottom of the lock, probably not everyone should find it. Strange tactic, hence only 4 stars! I went for Klash of the Ruhrpott 2024 and the bands were amazing... Tankard, Destruction, Sodom and Kreator, all together. The scenery with the Emscher river is really nice and overall is a nice place. The many problems here are with the organization: only cash payments everywhere, expensive €4 deposit for hardcups, only one hose for water on the hot weather with very long queues and finally they cancelled the Kreator concert 1 hour before the end because of a thunderstorm warning (OK, fine, it was a great storm but we got insanely wet outside with no possibility of getting a bus - which should have been organized to Gelsenkirchen or Essen stations). If you organize festivals, rain is a thing. It can happen and you can be prepared for it. So, not appropiate for extremely hot or rainy weather.

Overall the condition was solid - minor defects did not significantly disrupt the game. The lawn was well-kept, with only a few bare spots visible. There were enough benches and chairs to rest or wait. There were three of us (2 adults, 1 child) and paid a fair €13.50. The employees were very friendly and briefly explained the process to us. We were the first to get started at 2 p.m. sharp - before that we tidied up, cleaned and trimmed some of the lawn. Over the course of the afternoon the place filled up and by the end there were probably around 30 visitors. The weather was sunny and a pleasant 20 degrees – ideal for mini golf. At the end there was ice cream for everyone. A lovely trip – we’d love to come back! We were alone on the mini golf course so we thought we had enough time for the child to try it out. The owner became extremely rude on the second ride and said the following in front of the child: “Other children of that age can do it perfectly. She doesn’t even understand that the ball has to go into the hole.” The child was also not allowed to try the track a second time even though it was a difficult looping track. Apparently fun is not allowed here! We left again after the second train. I have never experienced such rude treatment. (Original) Nicht zu empfehlen!!! Die versteht ja noch nicht mal das der Ball ins Loch muss.”. Auch durfte das Kind die Bahn nicht ein zweites Mal versuchen obwohl es eine schwierige Looping Bahn war. But then we were able to “shake them off” and have fun. That's what we were here for and not to play according to the rules of the international mini golf association 😏. Park
Von-Wedelstaedt Park is a small but charming park featuring a pond, fountain, playground, and lush greenery. It's conveniently located along a bike path and offers clean pathways with benches for resting. While the pond may have been overgrown with algae in 2020, the park is generally well-maintained and perfect for leisurely walks or cycling. With its serene atmosphere and beautiful trees, it's an ideal spot for relaxation and enjoying nature.
Green park, very good for walking, cycling, relaxing. Lots of trees, lots of greenery. I like that it is maintained and cared for.

(Translated by Google) Nice place for large groups to have a picnic. Grilling, camping and a lot of other things are forbidden, but they don't detract from the fun. Only, especially if you read some of the comments here, dog owners seem to view this meadow as a dog meadow and let their dogs run around freely here. But since there is no fence or sign, they violate the leash requirement. There were no dogs around while I was there. Two benches for such a large area are really not enough. Added to this is the lack of garbage containers. As there are on almost every bench on the hiking trail to the playground. A bad weather event or two of them wouldn't be bad either. It's almost 2 kilometers to the parking lot.

Today only encounters with unfriendly, aggressive people and also unsocialized dogs - but unfortunately that suited the owners, or like people, often the dog too. (Translated by Google) It's not what it used to be. Still a nice place to stay. However, the rental of the apartment appears to be based exclusively on economic interests on the part of GGW as the landlord. The original idea no longer seems to have been taken into account. This location basically offers a great opportunity to create a great and communal living environment for all residents. The GGW obviously does not select potential tenants who are interested in something like this, so anonymity is now desired and encouraged there. Too bad, opportunity wasted. Schade, Chance vertan.
