I’ve been in Larne 3 weeks ago with some friends and I loved it. In our 6 days trip around Ireland (starting from Dublin), our first stop was in Larne.

Visited the chaine memorial tower in Larne for a weekend trip and absolutely loved it. The weather was perfect which made the experience even better. The location is peaceful and scenic with a stunning costal views that makes it a great spot to relax and take in the beauty of the area. It’s lovely place to spend some quiet time, go for a walk, or just enjoy the surroundings. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Lovely spot on the coast to stop, sit and watch the children play. It's also a good starting point for people on bicycles to get off at Larne Harbour station, ride all along there, the promenade and the coast line after...

Great views of Larne Port. Update: Back again to enjoy a gentle sea breeze and early April sun. Very peaceful.
Darron ( — Google review
The Chaine Memorial Tower was built of Irish granite in 1887 as a memorial for James Chaine, the developer of Larne Harbour. It is an accurate replica of an Irish Round Tower and stands 27m high and 7.5m wide at its base. The tower was converted into a lighthouse by the Commissioners of Irish Lights in March 1899.

The Larne Museum & Arts Centre is a charming bed and breakfast situated conveniently in the heart of Larne town, near various attractions. It offers modern single, double, and family rooms to cater to different needs. Notably, this property warmly welcomes families and pets alike, making it an ideal choice for those traveling with their entire group. Although not extensive in size, the museum hosts fascinating regular displays that are captivating. The building itself is impressive for enthusiasts who appreciate such architecture.
Attended with pupils. Heard a very interesting and well presented talk on the Vikings including their history, customs, local sites and replicas of everyday dress, jewellery and other implements.
Frances P — Google review
I had the pleasure of visiting the museum on Tuesday, 3rd September. The best memory I'll take away from my visit is just how engaging / enthusiastic the curator was. The museum has many great exhibits on show, its well worth a visit. The collection of model monkeys made by a local woman is worth seeing. The talent that she clearly has should be bottled.Next time, I'm early for the ferry l'll pop in again.
Kevin H — Google review
Not very large but the regular display is quite interesting. The building itself is really good, well assuming you're into that sort of thing! They do temporary exhibits on a broad range of topics so well with keeping an eye out for anything that might interest you.
William M — Google review
What a fantastic place to visit telling you about the history of larne with lots of objects to see and friendly staff and with a new exhibition starting in September race down a have a look
John S — Google review
Went here for a fossils exhibit that was visiting the museum. Was out first visit here. Lovely old red brick building. Greeted at door by a lovely lady who showed us the way to the fossils upstairs. It was small but the man showing it was very friendly and knowledgeable. My 2 young sons enjoyed it, especially when they got to take a small sharks tooth home with them. We then had a look downstairs at the museums exhibits, showing Northern Irish memorabilia, old products and furniture etc, I enjoyed seeing it. My boys played with the telephones. Not a very big area but nice visit to break up the day.
Rebecca C — Google review
Called in yesterday as Larne Motor Club were displaying a 65th Anniversary exhibition, outstanding collection of Motorsport videos, photographs, racing equipment and memorabilia. Definitely worth a visit, it is open from 10am to 4 pm until the 27th February!
Derek D — Google review
We visited Larne Museum not knowing what to expect but found it disappointing. The displays however are well set out and there is some interesting reading but I was expecting a better history of the town itself. Around the town in various places there are displays telling of the origins of the town from viking settlements, not mentioned in the museum. The town boasts some fine buildings, not covered in the museum, albeit some are in virtual ruins. The hotel industry was vast for a town of this size, barely mentioned, how the town was effected by the troubles from 1969 not mentioned. There was an interesting display on war memorabilia but not a mention of those who lost their lives in the two world wars. It is in a way understandable as space in the museum is very limited, did I enjoy my visit, yes, would I go again, undecided.

Chaine Park is a delightful destination perched above the Promenade, offering breathtaking coastal vistas that stretch towards Scotland and feature nearby landmarks like the Maidens Lighthouses and Chain Memorial Tower. For those seeking a bit of adventure, the 'snake' path provides an energetic route to explore. Families will appreciate its spacious play area for kids and ample room for dogs to frolic.
Chaine Memorial Park is an absolutely beautiful park on a hill overlooking Larne Harbour and the Antrim Coast. Great for walking, children playing, sports, entertainment and for major events like the Antrim Coast Half Marathon run. Well worth a visit.

The park itself is ok, but the real star of the show is the views

Lovely park to bring your pup's to. Brilliant views. Even take in the view of P&o coming in if you happen to catch it 👍

I love the park and actually use it and the nearby snake for training but it doesn't need to be freshened up. Currently the car park is restricted as they are working on a skate park addition which I can't wait to open. Will look to review again when renovations are complete.
Andrew D — Google review
Great little play park and also a nice walk along the coast . Highly recommended.
Roger H — Google review
I had my first Spring Day walk around here with my son and there wasn't much to see, but the view on such a clear and bright day of the Irish Sea was beautiful. We got to see a ferry coming in which is a regular thing down in Larne, but when you don't live by the Sea it's surprisingly a simple yet great sight.

Worth a stop off with children and the family dog. A coffee can be bought at the garage opposite the main gates.

Lovely park facing the sea, with lots of grass and paths to run, and dog-friendly too :) It's well-maintained and very clean, which is a big plus for dog owners!

A beautiful park comprising of tennis courts, fully equipped children's play area an outside work out gym an ornate band stand lots of friendly dog walkers stunning views of the coastline. I have awarded 4 stars as the only let down is that certain folk do not clean up after their dogs otherwise it would have been 5 stars also the children's area is gated Tennis courts should be opened soon + there's a 5km run every Sunday for the kids which is a good turn out

Really nice park with playground, outdoor workout equipment, stunning coastal path. Beautiful view of Larne Harbour.

Hiking & Camping Tours
Open since 1902, this cliffside path offers guided tours with dramatic views & wildlife sightings.
What a cool experience! My guide Billy did an awesome job leading the tour! Hiking shoes are required but if you don’t have any, you can rent them when you buy your ticket online. The hardest part of the walk is the hike back up the steep hill at the end, but you can take your time. I definitely recommend doing this if you’re in the area! Some really amazing views!
Kevin W — Google review
I want to thank the staff for being so nice and accommodating, especially Robert and our guide Roberta. We took a wrong turn on the way and ended up a bit late, but they let us go with another group, which was very kind of them. The walk itself is stunning and we were lucky enough to see puffins on the day! 100% recommend it!
Joane F — Google review
Just fabulous. Fab tour - Phil, our tour guide was very informative about the history of the area and the cliffs, not to mention hilarious! It's a good walk, some areas tougher than others - you need to think twice if you have any mobility or cardiovascular problems. We were blessed enough to see some puffins! Sometimes if you're lucky you will see dolphins or seals - we sadly, we're not. The views are beautiful, some days you can see as far as Scotland apparently! I highly recommend this trip!
Sarah M — Google review
My favourite experience in all of Ireland during our 3 months here. Exhilarating (but safe) at high tide on a rough day. Wonderful to be over the ocean. Jill was a very good and informative guide. Visitor centre and gift shop were good. Highly recommend The Gobbins.
Sally P — Google review
We saw a Puffin! Fascinating bird. Enjoyed the guides explainations of the extensive history. Strenuous hike. Well worth the effort. The rental boots are plenty nice. They require ankle support footwear to take the tour.
Max W — Google review
A great experience with beautiful scenery. This is a guided group tour walk and needs to be prebooked. It starts at Visitor Centre and the guide takes you to the start of walk spot in a mini bus. The helmets (provided) are required and boots are checked. The Viewing Point can be accessed independently. Best photo op if you are at the back of your tour group as you use the waiting time for photos. The walk is not a loop and you need to pass the other groups on the way there and back. The tunnel passage is dark and through a slightly wet path. We went on a beautiful warm sunny day and really enjoyed the walk.
Katarzyna T — Google review
What an experience!! Enjoyed the walking tour with our gang of girls and enjoyed every minute - well perhaps not the stagger up the steep slope at end?! The beauty, history and ruggedness all combined with being so close to healthy clean nature made this an amazing tour. Our guide was brilliant - friendly and so knowledgeable. After a good physical stretch, we gladly enjoyed a splendid lunch and hot drinks at the visitor centres cafe. Great day out!
Stephanie F — Google review
I visited the path on the 25th of August. It was an amazing and unique experience. The walk is easy and the scenery is breathtaking, the guide provides interesting explanations and insight. I felt safe for the whole path. But I really want to praise and thank also the staff of the visitor centre, a lovely lady didn't hesitate to help us out when we lost our train back. Thank you so much, you saved the day!

Large park with woodland, a walled garden and hedge maze, walking trails and coastline, plus a cafe.
Stunning scenery including sea view, loved the Walled Garden especially. Carparking was easy and convenient. Coffee and snacks available too.
Paul S — Google review
Went there on a Saturday afternoon, and most of the attractions within like the activity centre, maze, etc. were closed. The timings mentioned here in Maps and in the website link provided don't seem to match, and both seem to be incorrect, at least for a sunny Saturday in spring. Toilets were neat and clean, probably because there were not many people around. So, nothing to do other than just walk around in deserted walkways or click some pics with the sea in background.
Ajai G — Google review
30 Minutes drive from Carrickfergus, Natural calmness, and Beauty, Child Fiendly areas, A Maze and Children areas, but they close at 4. Drop your family inside the park and park your car outside on sea shore Free Parking as Park close at 7 PM, lots of summer Light to walk on Picturistic walking tracks, find a wooden stick and enjoy the walk. Rest rooms are available at enterence and in mid area Restaurent. Bring some snacks n coffee and enjoy on your own. Not advised for couples with children on strollers, or they will return soon.🙂

Ordinarily a fantastic family day out though have arrived today to find it is closed for renovation. You’d think the council would update their website but they haven’t. Check before travel. Gardens, visitor centre are closed UFN. Walks are still open, but that’s it.

Only the cafe and campsite are closed. Had a good walk in the woods and garden. A huge adventure playground is open and the toilets next to it.

Great spot. Close to Larne and the ferry ...so made a great spot to walk the dog while waiting for our ferry.
Martin G — Google review
had the pleasure of getting locked in the walled garden?! the car park closes at 4pm. me and my husband were on a walk and ended up walking around the walled garden around 3:30. at 3:45 we went to leave and all the gates were locked, including the one we came in from. no one came to check if anyone was still in there before locking ALL the gates. we tried calling yet no answer, even after calling twice & even called the warden and again, no answer. my husband was able to climb over the gate and manage to get it open. the gates are quite tall and if this happened to someone who was disabled, a child, or elderly they wouldn't be able to climb over as again, they are tall gates. i couldn't even climb over as someone in their 20s. its actually mad how there was no one who worked there around to help and unlock it. we were stuck for like half an hour. besides that, it is a lovely park but this experience was mad.

It is a small waterfall area. Very nice to visit and spend some time watching the falls and hearing to sounds of Water falls. Can take as many photos. Recommending to have a one time visit.

Lovely waterfall which is right next to the carpark. The soothing sound of the waterfall relaxes your mind. A very good place to take amazing pictures.

The waterfall's just a short distance from the carpark and is easy enough to find. Not a huge waterfall but worth a look if you're in the area.
Chris K — Google review
Well worth a visit if you're passing. We parked easily and we're pleasantly surprised that within two minutes' walk we were greeted by a beautiful waterfall!
Belinda F — Google review
A little hidden gem of a waterfall. There's not along walk to get there, but there are some quite steep steps and if there's leaves, it can be a bit slippy (so wear appropriate footwear, unlike me). Nice side track if you are in the Gkeno area.

Olderfleet Castle is a fascinating set of castle ruins located near an industrial area. Despite being surrounded by modern development, it offers a glimpse into medieval history and the era of Viking raids. While there isn't much left of the castle, it's still worth visiting for history enthusiasts and those interested in old ruins. The site also provides nice views of the harbor, making it a pleasant stop to stretch your legs and explore some intriguing history.
A really cool set of castle ruins hidden away near the industrial area. This is a cool free site to pop into if you are passing by and have an interest in history and medieval ruins.

Was expecting to see much more. It's just a situation on a small piece of land. Loved the pictures I took there.
Norman C — Google review
Only a 3 star because of what's around it - progress I guess. It's a free access ruin and for what's left of it, it's in a good state. If you are waiting for the ferry or getting off the ferry it's 100% worth the 5min visit. It's got some important Bruce history and worth a wee look.
Corey G — Google review

Super interesting history, can't believe 6000 lads parked 300 boats here.... just to take a wee hike all the way to Dundalk, to be asked not to go any further;) BTW there's no parking there, we were lucky it wasn't busy and parked by the nearby houses.
Zg A — Google review
A small ruined tower, set sadly in a rather unremarkable mixed use area near the Port… while it played a part in the events that sharped theses lands, it’s in a very ruined state. A 10 min walk from the Terminal… worth a look, but don’t go out of your way to see it. Free entry!

Great car park with sea views, 5 minute walk to the window. Wear proper footwear as you have to clamber up and down loose gravel on a slope to get to the Madman's window.

Cracking little beaty spot! I have added a route map showing you can access it from the Coast Rd to help those who might struggle with steep slippy grassy slope you otherwise have to go up and down - twice! For my walk we went the direct route then returned to car park via the Coast Rd, about 80 metres walk on road facing traffic with no footpath or verge though.
