Ancient Ruins
Nestled beneath the bustling A1(M) motorway, Welwyn Roman Baths offers a captivating glimpse into ancient history. This archaeological gem showcases the remains of a Roman bathhouse that once belonged to an opulent villa, providing insight into the lives of local farmers from centuries past. Although you can't take a dip in its waters, visitors can explore well-preserved features like the hypocaust system and various temperature-controlled rooms.
Super interesting here! It's run by the council and they were so pleased to see us, as it runs on visitor donations. The two men there were really knowledgeable, friendly and nice. The place was really interesting too, the way it's preserved under a corrugated iron roof!
Lyndsey D — Google review
Very interesting site, even though it's small, the curator who was there, explained in excellent details how this place was discovered. Then preserved and now open to the public on certain days.
Tony — Google review
It can get busy and is a very small attraction. Definitely more a hour alternative to swing park with kids than a day trip out. For history buffs it's interesting though.
Sophie B — Google review
So interesting in the middle of the country side. Small but recommended location to kearn about the ancient history of England.
Mark M — Google review
Well worth a visit. It's a small site but the staff were super friendly. They even hung around after our party were still looking around after closing. The staff were really chatty and knowledgeable. Ample parking
Mark D — Google review
Amazing find hidden beneath the A1. The museum guide, Christa, was absolutely fantastic and really knows her stuff. During our time there she guided several people around and she speaks with so much passion. It's small but very interactive with lots for the children to do. Another plus are the eco toilets - its great to see places doing their bit for the environment. I highly recommend a visit!
Bobbie C — Google review
My kids loved it here! Many games and puzzles for them to interact with. It's not large but you can get a lot out of the experience if you absorb the abundance of information on offer. Very helpful employee at the entrance.

We had a lovely trip, Jim talked us through the history of the baths and was very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend visiting this place!

Nestled just a short stroll from Welwyn Garden City's town centre, BETTER Gosling Sports Park is a haven for fitness enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. The park features an extensive 100-station gym, studio classes, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, football pitches, spa facilities including a sauna, dry ski slope - the only one in the region - gymnastics hall, squash courts, golf driving range, cycling velodrome and trampoline park.
Went at the trampoline park for a birthday party and was pleasantly surprised. Unlike most places in downtown London, this one was clean and civilised. The kids had a good time and enjoyed the facilities which seem to be well maintained.
Renaud B — Google review
We were in the first session at 9am. The lights were not on and didn’t go on for sometime. The area is absolutely filthy and disgusting. There were squashed raisins all over the flood in the football area. The whole place needs a good clean. The toilets are also in need of a clean. Really unacceptable for the price you pay. It’s such a shame as the facilities and soft play equipment it’s very good.
Sarah W — Google review
I have only used the trampoline park which is good for the kids the soft play area is a good addition. However it is very expensive for what it is and could definitely do with a clean. But the worst thing is their ridiculous parking charges and fines - when you are using the sports facilities and there payment machine doesn't work. I won't be returning in a hurry. It has put me off.
Charlotte B — Google review
Very kind, polite and helpful staff! Like the chilled atmosphere. Easy to get there. Really afordable prices! This time we were running late because of accident on the Motorway we were driving from London)..the staff ( at Trampolining )was really helpful and we got the extra 15 minutes, we have missed extra. They made four children very happy. Big Thank You from all of us!
Silvia K — Google review
My granddaughter loves it here in Indoor Play. Comprises toddler area with little slide and soft blocks in separate area. For the older good climbing area with challenging higher slides and safe bigger stepping blocks. Nice cafe all round pleasant place to visit
Lyn R — Google review
After having to ask few times at the reception for the AC to be turned on nothing had been done about that. Weather was warm, warmer inside in the softplay area, children would over heat and im surprised they didn’t take this seriously. Receptionists aren’t great. This :| rather than this :) . Soft play area is dirty, needs to be taken care of. Tables are wobbly!! One more thing, not enough toilets!!
Anika R — Google review
The trampoline area is great for kids. Some of the staff are really lovely. The café is great baked potatoes are a winner.
Jasper S — Google review
I love it but its just a standard covered driving range. Always with free spaces £8.40 for 100 balls. Covered, decent mats and most bays have ball feeders. Only downside is fierce and unreliable parking charges 😤

Lake
Stanborough Park is the perfect destination for a leisurely autumn walk, surrounded by vibrant orange leaves and a refreshing chill in the air. After strolling along the well-positioned pathways that lead around the park, visitors can capture stunning photos of the picturesque scenery. The park features lakes and ponds, offering swan boat rides for couples seeking a romantic experience. Families can also enjoy various activities such as boat riding and climbing.
One of the most beautiful park's I have visited in the south east. There are lots of stuff to do in this park such as boat riding, climbing, as well as other activities. The park is very big and has wonderful scenery, especially when you're at the top near the woods. Ideal place for photography as you'll get 10/10 picture's. Beautiful place in general. Had lots of fun boat riding which is only £5 for half an hour. Great place to go with family and friends, especially on a sunny day where you can have picnics. In conclusion great park would deffo reccomend visiting.👌👌
Eric R — Google review
It’s unfortunate that Stanbrough Lakes has not been properly maintained. For example, the public footpath under the bridge on Great North Road used to occasionally flood in the 80s and 90s, but now it is constantly flooded due to the build-up of stones and debris. There are no warnings for the public about the risk of Weil’s disease, especially with the number of rats running rampant in the area. In its heyday, the waterways were clear, and my relative reminisces about the reed beds that once existed and the fun they had near a now-buried footpath. There used to be a lovely bridge crossing the boating lake, but that has sadly disappeared. It's great to see that the private nature reserve beyond the viaduct has been opened up; I love the beautiful waterfall there. However, the paths we encountered were blocked by overgrown weeds and poorly maintained. Standing under the viaduct and listen out for the trains thunder overhead is great fun. My relative has fond memories of watching the Flying Scotsman whistle by. They hold many cherished childhood memories from the 1940s of these once-pristine and well-maintained lakes. Nb The turtles that reside at this lake are not native.

Nice and accessible park with lots of activities to do, good food and awesome staff too.

4.5 - Great park with lots of facilities. Parking can be issue on hot days. Water area fun for kids n adults.
VJ H — Google review
Beautiful and calm .you can walk along the lake and enjoy the atmosphere and nature. I always feel good whenever I visit this place.
Md A — Google review
First time visiting today having lived in Hertfordshire for 30 years and rather disappointed to be honest. Firstly there are two car parks, North and South, but no signage saying what the benefit of parking in one or the other was. Secondly £6 for 3 hours parking is a rip off. You either want to encourage people to visit or you don't. The walk round the south lake was OK but nothing special. The cafe was distinctly average...coffee served in paper cups and lacklustre snacks on offer. Would I go again? No.

Shopping mall
The Howard Centre is a two-story shopping mall in Welwyn Garden City, offering a range of high-street fashion shops and department stores. It provides convenient access to the railway station, making it an ideal location for commuters working in London. The center features popular retail chains like John Lewis, Next, H&M, and Waterstones alongside smaller independent shops. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as the Welwyn Roman baths and Mill Green Museum.
A very comfordable and functional shopping center. Everything in one place.
Mariusz R — Google review
Nice shopping centre combined with a train station and multistorey car parking. It had elevators to the first floor and lifts to the rest of the floors. Lifts were busy most of the time but was working. All day car parking and 24 hours parking was also available. As always the entry and exit was very narrow (hand on the forehead). There was a machine to pay for parking at first floor near the lift and they have an app called ECP Euro car park app to pay for parking while you exit. There are enough places to eat inside the shopping mall. Toilet had a notice requesting the users to use less paper if possible as a result of frequent clogging as they are planning to upgrade/fix in the next 12 months.
A K — Google review
Devoid of shops. I used to love shopping here on a Saturday but no longer. Please lower your rents for independents, or have popups, but do something. WGC deserves better.
Janine T — Google review
A charming shopping mall with some upmarket eclectic shops. Unique access into the train station via the second floor. Welwyn Garden City is a beautiful environment to shop in with a plethora of restaurants and a large John Lewis store close by the beautiful grounds of the city and the US grid system of streets makes navigation easy. A great place to visit

It’s great that Fat Face & Monsoon still here. Place is always clean looking. Needs more quality shops or even quality outlets.

I went there today as ain’t been in a while went to go JD sports turns out it’s closed down walked around for 5 minutes and the amount of empty units is shocking a shop upstairs called maz London is closing down I spoke to a very polite and friendly security officer there and he said he only started 2 days ago I feel for him as it’s empty I’ll give it 3 stars as it does have nice places to sit and relax to have a coffee

The performance at Campus West, located in Welwyn Garden City, is a highly enjoyable experience. The show Treasure Island is both entertaining and engaging. The actors deliver outstanding performances, with one of the highlights being the talented and funny Dame who shows quick wit and energy on stage. Her nine unique and extravagant dresses add to the overall appeal of the production. Fanny's singing voice is truly remarkable, leaving a lasting impression on the audience year after year.
Had so much fun at the Roller skating rink, I went to the Friday night 18+ roller disco. The DJ was great, he created an amazing party atmosphere. Parking is also extremely convenient as it's right next to the venue. Can't wait to return and become a regular

We love coming here with our little ones! They have lots of options for children of all ages. The softplay is very nice during the week, but it usually gets very crowded on weekends and half term. They also offer many kid friendly screening sessions in their cinema and often have live shows for the little ones. They also offer a discount card for free :)

You should try the escape room here. Lovely experience, air-conditioned for the hot summer days, friendly and professional staff. Good for family fun. Multi-story carpark next to it.

“Treasure Island” is highly entertaining! We went to see the last year’s show and loved it so much that we had been so looking forward to this year’s performance. The casts are great. One of the best Dames! Funny with quick wit, energetic! Her dresses are amazing! I nearly lost the count, but I think she had 9 different dresses. They were all so original and outrageous. Definitely worth seeing just the dresses. The singing voice of Fanny is amazing. I was impressed with it last year and reminded of how clear and beautiful voice she had again this year. Jim is a great character who runs around and does 12 days of Xmas towards the end. I highly recommend Campus West Panto to anyone who are looking for great laugh and entertainment.
Chiho S — Google review
Fabulous place for kids, adults and families. We regularly use the soft play and attend the annual pantomime which is brilliant. The staff are always very friendly and helpful and great with kids. Good cafe/bar too. The library is also very good.

I love the atmosphere, it feels more like a local cinema and that gives a special feeling about it. There is also loads of other activities we want to try in the future. Parking very convenient and reasonable. Strongly recommended.

The Mill Green Museum and Mill is a restored heritage site that features a water-powered flour mill, as well as galleries showcasing local history. The mill produces high-quality flour of various grades and types, which can be purchased along with souvenirs. Visitors can explore exhibits featuring Roman era artifacts and changing art exhibitions by local artists. Additionally, the gardens sometimes host temporary stalls. The museum offers tours of the mill and provides informative staff to guide visitors through their experience.
Very interesting visit. The miller was great he gave us a good talk on the history, answered all our questions demonstrated the workings of the mill and the water wheel. He gave us so much time and was such a friendly chap. There's a small art exhibition in one of the first rooms, live music outside. They are running murder mystery escape room adventures around the mill at the moment which looked like a lot of fun. We had a lovely cream tea in the he gardens. The scones are made with the flour from the mill. They are lovely. It's a great place for a few hours out. Car park, toilets and friendly staff.
Louise — Google review
Lovely place to come and visit. Interesting and historic Watermill and the homemade cream teas are just out of this world made from the mill's flour..high praise indeed from my mum living in devon most her life. The dog loved them too! Highly recommended.
Rob — Google review
What a lovely little Water Mill. The staff were lovely and the tour by the Miller was really interesting; it included harnessing the power of the river to drive the flour Mill Stones, receiving & processing of the grain into flour and packaging. I was surprised to hear how this Mill, and others like it, stepped up during the 2020 Covid outbreak to ensure flour was still available to the Bakeries. The Mill building itself shows evidence of changes through modifications made during its production years and before finally ceasing commercial operations. We also had a cream tea with their own made scones, hmmm lovely.
Paul C — Google review
It's my second time to the Watermill museum and I loved it. The new kids activity zone and a nice reading area has been added, all bakery themed. We met lovely people who work there and take care of the Mill, always happy to share lots of interesting facts about the mill and the process of flour making.
Anna V — Google review
There are plenty of restored mills around, but very few are still actively milling corn to produce flour you can then purchase. This place is a rare treasure. Excellent from every aspect, but the warmth and enthusiasm of their team was memorable. Plentiful free parking, clean loos, superbly restored and lovingly maintained ancient fully working technology is presented in context and clearly seen and presented. Initial warm greeting from reception lady, tour conducted by the miller, and charisma of the catering lady with her perfect cream teas made our long trip to visit fully worthwhile. If you think you might find this place interesting, be assured you will. Highly recommended! Our dog enjoyed visiting too. Tea and coffee cafetières are “bottomless”, and it’s also worth visiting just to enjoy their cafe.
Anton G — Google review
We had an amazing time at the Mill Green Museum! We were greeted by Simon who talked to us about the gardens and the different plants growing there. The staff (Simon, Jim and Abbie) were all so friendly and knowledgeable. Jim the Miller was enthusiastic and gave a very informative tour and demonstration of the milling process and history of the mill. The gift shop sold their own flour which we are all looking forward to using and the cafe has a good selection of baked goods using their flour too! They answered all of our questions and curiosities and it was a very enjoyable day! Definitely recommend for any ages, be that University students like us, or families (the museum had a very interactive display showing how the mill works which was fun!). Such a beautiful location too on the River Lea! A little gem! :) - Psychology department at Uni of Herts

Impressive structure. Visited on a day when no trains going over! Free parking & blue badge parking & accessible path under viaduct. Benches on the path. Didn't walk that far, but easy for walking frame. Path had movable fence across, not quite clear why, but presumably to stop vehicles.

This charming pub is known for its warm atmosphere and exceptional customer service, making it an ideal spot to unwind after a long day. What else can I say, my favourite pub in Welwyn! Amazing atmosphere, DJ on a Friday and Saturday night, decent prices for alcohol, food is decent, shows a lot of sport, if you book in advance you’ll be able to grab a table even for big events such as finals and boxing. You’ll have a great night here for sure!

From the first minute we sat down finn made sure to get us a round. Absolutely would come again. Food was amazing. I was jealous of my husbands pizza looked and tasted brilliant.

Called here yesterday looking for somewhere to watch the F1. Booked online with the Sunday Pit Stop menu added on. Turned up with a table right in front of the TV and the pit stop menu already on the table. Was nervous we wouldn't be able to listen to commentary but when the F1 started they swapped the sound in our section from the music to commentary. Food was delicious and the pit stop deal was really good value for the amount of food you got. If you're looking for someone to watch the sport would definitely recommend here!

Bobby and Scotty were absolutely brilliant – so helpful and genuinely kind during our visit. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. I visited The New Maynard Gallery, an art exhibition located in the same building as a cinema. It was difficult to find due to the lack of clear signs. Upon asking a staff member, I was directed to the gallery upstairs. The setting was pleasant and offered a nice view of Welwyn Garden City. However, there were some unaddressed mistakes from an artist's perspective.
An regularly updated gallery of art from local artists. Always worth stopping by. It's a great place to grab a coffee and enjoy inspiring art from many different people.
Martin S — Google review
I participated in an art exhibition there and I enjoyed myself. It was hard to find the place though as its located in the same building as the cinema and there aren't any clear signs that let you know as all you see are signs for the cinema. I walked in the building and asked one of the staff who pointed me to the stairs leading up to the gallery. It's a nice setting. From an artist point of view, there were few mistakes that weren't rectified before the show but from a spectator's perspective, it's a nice place to enjoy a tea or glass of wine surrounded by a nice view of Welwyn Garden City and a good selection of art.
Marie — Google review
I was expecting it be be a gallery. Scene as though it's in the title. We spent ages looking for it then after asking around, (as there's zero signs) we found it's just paintings down a corridor of the cinema. We wanted to support one of the artists by buying something from the cabinet, however you can not buy there and then. You have to text a number ! I wasn't impressed I'm afraid. Hertfordshire seems to be lacking good galleries. Maybe because it's so close to London, who knows!

Brocket Hall is an 18th-century estate that offers chic dining, golf, and corporate function facilities. The property features two championship golf courses named after former Prime Ministers who resided at Brocket Hall. The estate also offers walking routes through the picturesque village of Ayot Green and the surrounding parkland. With its historic grandeur and traditional butler service, Brocket Hall is an exclusive venue perfect for history enthusiasts and those seeking a romantic backdrop for weddings.
Palmerston Golf Course @ Brockett Hall provided us with a well manicured and a picturesque setting. The undulating and changing landscape provided us lots of fun and excitement during our game which we chose to walk. Highly recommended. Great course and country estate location only half an hour’s drive from north London

This hotel was an awful experience, I had insects flying on me whilst I was in bed, no sleep, then I realised the insects were coming in from outside as the large sash window had been left open prior to my arrival and during my stay. I had not realised as they were covered by a voile and I arrived in the dark. This is not safe as it was a ground floor room easily accessible to anyone at street level. I informed reception at 7am and got an unsympathetic unhelpful response. I have contacted staff multiple times and been ignored completely. Avoid this hotel, it is filthy and dusty and there is no customer service process, they clearly do not value customers.

Being a recommended supplier for photography and Videography at Brocket Hall, were very blessed to be able to have this stunning wedding venue on our doorstep. Our latest wedding was an outdoor ceremony on the lawn and the weather was perfect! We cant wait to showcase at the upcoming wedding fair, see you there! Thank you to the team there for always looking after us. Lou & Paul (Shrigley Photography & Films)

It is always a total pleasure to photograph a wedding at Brocket Hall. The staff are very friendly and whether you get married at the big house or the golf club, the views and grounds are stunning. I love photographing weddings at this venue because there are so many beautiful places for couples photos and the whole estate looks amazing which ever season you get married in.

I had the pleasure of attending The Grass and Co English Legends Tour at Brocket Hall last weekend, and what an incredible experience it was! I was lucky enough to take part in the Pro-Am, which was an absolute highlight — playing alongside such a talented professional and enjoying the stunning Palmerston Course made it a truly memorable day. The hospitality throughout the event was first-class, with every detail taken care of, from the warm welcome to the excellent food and drink. The atmosphere across the whole tournament was fantastic, with friendly volunteers, great organisation, and a real buzz both on and off the course. Watching the legends of the game up close was inspiring, and the quality of golf on display was exceptional. A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this such a special event. I can’t wait to be back next year to enjoy it all over again!

A lovely place to hold a wedding or party. This is a well equipped hall with lots of grounds. It also has a PGA golf club. Definitely worth a look for a beautiful wedding venue.

Disappointing Experience at Brockett Hall I was invited to play a round of golf at Brockett Hall, a venue I’d long been curious about given its rich and colourful history—particularly the tales of Charlie Brockett and his Ferraris ending up in the lake. With that backstory, and the allure of the Palmerston course, I arrived full of anticipation. Sadly, the experience was underwhelming from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, things started going downhill. Signage directed us to a drop-off area where I expected some kind of welcome or assistance. Instead, we were met by staff who appeared more interested in smoking than helping. When I asked where the clubhouse was or how to access our golf cart, the response was vague and unhelpful—“somewhere around the corner.” Not a great first impression. The clubhouse and pro shop were surprisingly small and lacked the service you’d expect from a venue of this supposed calibre. Staff seemed disinterested, and it felt like we were inconveniencing them just by turning up. On the course, the only bright spot was the starter—friendly, warm, and genuinely helpful. Unfortunately, the course itself didn’t live up to expectations. The Palmerston felt tired and poorly maintained. Paths were scruffy, the fairways lacked care, and the overall upkeep of the grounds was disappointing. For the price being charged, there are far better options locally—courses that are in better condition, offer a more enjoyable round, and provide far greater value. It’s a shame, because Brockett Hall clearly has the potential to be special. Right now, though, it’s falling far short. I can’t help but think Charlie Brockett would be dismayed at the current state of his former home.

I exhibited at Brocket Hall’s Wedding Fair in March 2025 and booked again for November. Unfortunately, my experience has been disappointing. In March my table was placed in a low-footfall area and on the Sunday I was left exhibiting alone after another supplier was moved outside. Despite generating a few leads, none converted. For the November show, I paid promptly, but later had my booking cancelled by the events team without any clear contractual basis. This was particularly frustrating as I had already invested in leaflets, canvases and display materials. Communication throughout was poor, messages between staff were inconsistent, and on several occasions the main contact number routed through to the golf shop rather than the events team. Brocket Hall’s communication repeatedly emphasised that poor attendance at the March fair was due to suppliers not sharing the event enough on their social media channels, rather than addressing the wider issues of promotion and organisation. I feel the handling of this has not reflected the professionalism or reputation one would expect from a venue of Brocket Hall’s stature.

Hatfield House, Park and Gardens is a grand Jacobean stately home located on the site of Elizabeth I's childhood home. The house was built in 1611 by Charles Cecil and is set within the picturesque 42-acre Great Park. It features stunning examples of Jacobean artisanship, including the famous Grand Staircase and Great Hall where members of the Royal Court were entertained.
One of the most beautiful houses we have ever visited. The trip here was made so much more special by Dermot. A huge thank you for making us feel so welcome Dermot. We felt like we got the VIP treatment, you are a wonderful asset to such a magnificent house, it was a pleasure to meet you. The staff make this place. They are incredibly kind and have a wealth of knowledge. It was not busy at all when we visited which added to the charm. It’s also impeccably kept. We did the wood walk after we visited the house which I would also recommend. I was so impressed I’ll be telling everyone to visit.

What a wonderful place this is your visit, especially if you're a history lover or architecture enthusiast! I absolutely adored the rambling Gardens with a choice of different length walks, the cafe was very relaxed with a range of food and drinks but the highlight for me was the incredible tour of the old Elizabethan building by very knowledgeable and friendly Dermot! What a pleasure it was to enjoy such an in depth and interesting talk by such an experienced gentleman. We would definitely visit again!!

Visited the gardens only. Some of the most beautifully curated public gardens in SE England. Very lucky to be able to visit the East Garden which is only open to the public on certain Wednesdays. Some nice woodland walks as well although I would have to say that these aren't fantastically signposted.

It was very lovely place to visit. Free parking and only short walk to the house and gardens. Very brilliant, smiley and pleasant people work there, it was not a problem for them to help us use the lift a few times,so thank you.! It makes the visit so much easier and nicer. It's not easy to get around everywhere if you have a buggy or especially the walker.. Very recommend this place to visit!

What a gorgeous hidden gem just north of London crammed full of history. Very knowledgeable and helpful guides in each room. Check out their website as they put on ‘festival’ type events. The grounds are well kept. Only downside for me was you have to pay extra to go into the palace (£8 I believe). The ‘marmite’ fountain at the back of the house is interesting. I loved it. I will definitely be back.

I don't even know where to start to describe this fantastic place! We spent about five hours there and loved every single minute of it. There is just so much to see! We first visited the Gardens, which are stunning. Then we spontaneously opted for a guided tour of the Old Palace, which absolutely blew us away. I must admit that when we had decided to visit Hatfield House, we weren't even aware of the Old Palace and its significant history, so it felt like an extra bonus. Our guide was not only very knowledgeable, but also extremely engaging - a pure joy to listen to and get lost in the stories from days gone by. And then the house itself, which is absolutely marvellous in every respect. The staff in each of the rooms were genuinely eager to tell their story and engage with the visitors, so we were able to have long chats, which we thoroughly enjoyed! A long walk to the Oak Tree and back completed our visit, which exceeded our expectations by far. It didn't go unnoticed that unlike most historic houses in Britain, the gift shop was mostly stocked with local produce, rather than the usual souvenirs. But although we couldn't find anything to buy, we didn't even mind that. I got the feeling that despite all its fascinating history and splendour, Hatfield House doesn't seem nearly as commercialised as many similar places (we were surprised about the small number of visitors in the middle of summer), and that would actually seem a good thing. As a result, our visit had a very intimate touch, and we felt individually valued, rather than being a part of big masses of tourists passing through. Our visit turned out to be the highlight of our 10-day holiday in the UK!

Huge gardens & park with multiple routes for avid walkers / dog walking & a fantastic set up for a lovely morning / family day out. Easy parking, we visited their shops and cafe in their entry area, headed to the loo, got ice cream and made our way around their grounds in a beautiful sunny day! Might feel expensive for a walk but a worthy day out for family / friends and a great adventure location with food, facilities, and beautiful nature! Head here for a great day out when the sun is up!

You can feel the history at Hatfield house. You have the spectacular house, built by Robert Cecil, along with the old palace, where Elizabeth 1st and Edward would have been bought up. You can almost imagine them playing in the wonderful West Gardens as you walk around. The staff are full of information and love to share their wealth of knowledge, just ask. After the house, we went for a walk through the woods, down to the picturesque river. My mother is in a wheelchair, but we had no problems getting around. Everywhere is accessible. Just be prepared for some inclines in the woodland walks.

Knebworth House is a grand Tudor stately home with extensive gardens that have been the site of major rock concerts, including performances by Oasis, Robbie Williams, and Led Zeppelin. Beyond its musical legacy, the estate offers guided tours of the historic house dating back over 500 years and features sprawling 250-acre gardens with formal gardens, a large adventure playground, and a dinosaur trail showcasing over 70 prehistoric creatures.
Attended for a company event. The house and estate are superb. Wonderfully kept and beautiful to view. We found all the staff to be really helpful and polite and very efficient. We are now considering visiting the estate when it is open for normal business as there was vast areas we didn't explore. Really worth a visit.

What a beautiful house. Went for a guided tour, which was very informative and entertaining. It’s really worth it. Did a little walk around the gardens, which aren’t huge. But so nicely kept. I would revisit sometime as it’s a calm place to walk around. Nice cafe too. All staff are friendly and approachable.

Had a great day out here in the house and gardens. My only criticism was that the day we visited, the house was guided visits only - no mention of this when we booked. It was useful to hear about the history of the house, but we felt a bit rushed and not really able to fully look around each room.

Beautiful Tudor house, the stewards are very knowledgeable and approachable. Loving what they do. The family still live there, which gives the whole place a homely feel. The gardens are well kept . Beautiful historic home and grounds. The home itself is beautiful and guided tours available which we did and definitely worth it. Not that expensive. Lovely grounds and gardens, with a lot of walking to do if you so wish :) great on a lovely sunny day. Theres a dinosaur trail aswell which is great for kids and dino fans alike. Theres alsos a play park which i didnt directly go to but can see and its quite a large one. Lovely cafe with good food and drinks available including veggie options. Toilets were clean with nappy changing toilet available too.

We had an amazing day at Knebworth House! The historic home was absolutely fascinating—truly a magical place that’s stayed on my mind ever since 🤩. The kids’ activities were spot on, and both of my children had a fantastic time. The adventure playground was a definite highlight! I highly recommend visiting, especially for families with kids. We loved every moment ❤️

Excellent adventure playground for little ones. Outdoor obstacle course with swings, little houses, zip lines, A huge fort with towers and slides. Also some huge mat slides. Perfect for picnics - no picnics allowed in house gardens however you can around the adventure playground. Worth noting you can walk across the grounds to the house from the playground or vice versa however about 1.2k apart across bumpy grass so you may want to drive. The gardens around the house are not really buggy friendly apart from across the grass. Wilderness walk/trails where dinosaurs are is definitely not buggy friendly. Adventure playground has decent toilets/changing area and a small cafe operating out of a shipping container/shed. 10:30 opening time which wished it was a bit earlier especially with younger children. Grounds were lovely and had a great day out!

Shaw's Corner, once the residence of renowned Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw from 1906 to 1950, is now under the care of the National Trust. The property offers a glimpse into Shaw's life with rooms preserved as he left them, including his writing desk and garden writing hut. Visitors can enjoy script-in-hand play readings of Pygmalion during specific months.
This is a much smaller property than your Average National Trust place but makes a nice visit. The garden is very large for your average house but pretty small for a National Trust place. As long as you know this and are okay with it, it'll make a nice visit. The house tour was nice but do note it's 45 minutes and you'll feel awkward not to finish it so only go if you'll stick with it (it was interesting if you want to know the history side of it). It was pretty quiet on a Sunday morning which suggests you'll probably enjoy a less busy stay than other National Trust properties which we enjoyed.
Joe P — Google review
This National trust is the former home of George Bernard Shaw, and left as he would’ve used it. It’s not huge as has a few rooms on each of the floors, but has about one small sign per room about objects and his life, and volunteers are great. you can also see his Nobel Prize upstairs. Prebooked guided tours are available, though we did the self-guided visit, which took about 15 minutes in the house. Small garden also available to walk through, including seeing his small writing shed. Car park small, perhaps space for 15 cars, so may fill up during busy times. It’s only about a one minute walk to the house. Small used bookshop in the entry kiosk. No cafe, though a few beverages for sale in the entry kiosk. Toilet: Basic single loo at the end of the house, also accessible from the garden - or a portaloo near the front kiosk.

Overall, this quaint and unassuming theater comes highly recommended for its excellent acting and welcoming environment.
Brilliant community theatre, putting on at least 12 quality performances every year, plus a festival. There is a theatre with comfortable seating and a studio, allowing for simultaneous performances. Beyond swimming, visitors can enjoy a well-equipped gym offering various fitness classes to cater to all levels. The centre also features relaxing amenities like a steam room and sauna for those looking to unwind after an invigorating workout.
Unusual pool... but a very nice pool. Good size main pool.. with good depth. Perfect for training. And tumble turns. Wasn't overly busy when I went. But was lots of lessons on at that time.. the smaller pools join into main pool which means main pool is a slightly odd shape. A little distracting doing length with angles not nice and straight.. or as you are passing the diving pool to your side. Overall I liked the pool. And hopefully will get another chance to visit before my job moves me elsewhere.
Rob H — Google review
Been a member for many years, and unfortunately this Year I've downgraded this gym from 4 starts to 1 and will also be canceling my membership.. Every year the price goes up and things get worse.. Closing times are getting earlier.. Kids are always in the gym destroying the equipment and playing around the work out area with no supervision ... Spa showers are always breaking.. All the good staff have left or are leaving..and the current staff don't really seem to care / don't really like thier job. It's a shame, I'll be now moving to pure gym for less and be able to use it 24/7
Samer S — Google review
Nice and orderly pool but customer service sends you in circles for anything other than cancelling/signing up. They have no idea on details for membership plans e.g. link to Stanborough Park or what level swims lessons are beyond the title 'beginner/improver'. Back and forth between email/phone calls between various staff meant I lost a month in actually finding the membership most suitable. Unapologetic for incorrect advice which I have in writing.

If you are looking at booking a birthday part here I would strongly advise against it. My daughter goes swimming regularly, she has lessons with school and I take her most Sundays. When I take her she normally swims 50m front crawl at the beginning before playing and practising her diving then 50m breast stroke at the end before leaving. We thought that even though the reviews here weren't good the idea of having a party here was great. There is a small test at the beginning but then they are free to use the inflatable obstacle course and diving boards after. So, even though my daughter can swim the lifeguard on duty decided to fail her. She swam the whole distance without touching the floor twice. My daughter was almost in tears, I didn't know what happened but the lifeguard said it was she changed her stroke halfway through. I challenged him and he said she could do the test again. I asked my daughter to just choose one stroke and stick to it. She started swimming, there were other children in the pool at this point but she swam round everyone without touching the floor. I thought nothing of it as she swam the whole distance. The lifeguard then said her strokes weren't strong enough. My daughter isn't the fastest of swimmers but she easily swam the test 3 times. I have emailed them for a response and apparently they are investigating but "Pool safety is our greatest priority, we do always offer a retest but it is down to the lifeguards/duty manager on shifts discretion whether a swimmer passes or fails." So a girl with armbands was allowed to pass this test and ended up on the diving boards (the mother had to scream out for her to get down) so not sure how that works with pool safety. My daughters birthday was ruined and they have not come back to me with any satisfactory explanation as to why she failed the test. So even if your child can swim they may just fail them for the sake of failing them, leaving them to watch their friends play.
Peter C — Google review
Good swimming facilities, a main pool plus kids pool and splash area. There is also a dedicated diving pool that can be booked. Changing rooms were generally clean, much cleaner than other pools nearby. Quiet for a Sunday, although the "fun swim" consisted of about four large floats in the main pool. Still, we had a good time and will return.

Lovely park with lots of space, love the hills to keep fit, lake with pedal boats and a small paddling area, improved mini playground in the kiddies little waterpark near the jungle gym and a bit of play in-between them. Toilets and changing rooms smelled horrible every visit, no soap but not too scruffy. Ice cream bar service a bit slow and not as badly priced as most vans are recently. Car park is vast but very expensive, though it must help pay for maintenance and growth of the place, those lines of bins in-between carpark and park are always horribly stinky, wish park management would improve cleanliness/smells more often, a simple wash 1x/2× daily.

Lovely park. Lots of parking spaces on a nice warm day. Lovely water park/play area for children. Snack stand with drinks and ice cream and 5 or 6 picnic tables. Nice bridge to walk over the river to the lake where there are pedalos and a lovely big walk around the lake. In an hour we had got less than half way taking a leisurely stroll and sitting on the park benches watching the wildlife. Great time here for all ages and the dogs loved the walk. Would definitely go here again and pay for longer on the parking ticket to walk the whole lake

What a lovely park. Visited midweek whilst the kids were at school, so there was plenty of available parking. The toilets were really clean. Walked around the boating lake, which was both peaceful and relaxing. Stopped off at the cafe for a bite to eat and a coffee. It was reasonably priced and quite tasty. There are lots for the kids to do. Home schoolers were paddle boarding during our visit, which looked great fun. Passed a water park as well. A few toddlers braved the nippy weather today. Overall, this is a beautifully kept park with many activities and one that I will certainly be visiting again.

Stanborough Park is a delightful escape nestled in the heart of nature, offering a tranquil and picturesque setting that is ideal for a day out. The park's two lakes provide a scenic backdrop and are perfect for leisurely walks or more energetic activities like rowing and fishing. The well-maintained paths and green spaces are a joy for walkers and joggers alike, and there's plenty of room for children to play and explore. One of the highlights of Stanborough Park is its accessibility and family-friendly atmosphere. The park offers ample parking, and the facilities, including clean restrooms and picnic areas, are well-kept. For families, the playground is a hit with the kids, and there's enough space for everyone to enjoy without feeling overcrowded. While the park is generally well-maintained, some areas could benefit from a little extra attention, particularly during the busier months. Additionally, while the café provides a nice spot to relax and refuel, the selection and quality of food and drinks could be improved. Overall, Stanborough Park earns a solid four stars for its beautiful setting, range of activities, and commitment to providing a welcoming environment for visitors of all ages. It's a great spot for those looking to spend a day in the outdoors without straying too far from the conveniences of the city.

Nestled in the scenic surroundings of Welwyn Garden City, Panshanger Golf Complex is a beloved destination for golf enthusiasts. This longstanding facility boasts an impressive 18-hole championship course that remains playable even during winter months when other clubs may struggle with temporary greens and tees. The complex also features a well-stocked pro shop and a modern golf simulator, catering to both seasoned players and newcomers alike.
Excellent pro shop, with friendly service. Fantastic 18 hole course, well kept fairways and immaculate greens. By the time our round finished in the evening the kitchen was unfortunately closed. Looking forward to the next visit with an earlier tee time to make the kitchen. Highly recommended.

Not great value at £27 for raggedy, crowned, slow, bumpy, long grainy holes that are so "muffed in" they're about 75% the size of what they should be. In fact, it's far too much to pay. Pro / course manager priggishly maintained they were "good" and that he played them and said they were fine. Absolute tosh! If he's even a half decent golf pro then I'm peak Seve. But don't take my word for it (or his!!) as I'll add photos so you can judge for yourself. The close-up of the grass that's well over a centimeter long was 2ft from the hole on the 6th. That's longer than most courses aprons around the greens. He added that the holes would be changed for the weekend. I fail to see how that's of any help to me paying full whack for dismally placed and worn out hole locations today. What am I supposed to say? "Oh aye, cheers, that's smashing, thanks". If you've had bad weather even a simpleton knows you need to change the holes. Alternatively, you can always just stick your middle finger up at the paying public. I'd like to add that there are positives, as the views and routing of the course are good. Bar is nice enough. I was keen to make this clear during my post round chat with the manager. I say this as I'm keen to be fair, unbiased and objective. If you have any queries on your visit, I really wouldn't bother voicing them unless being disregarded is your thing. Hasten to add that the tone of the discussion wasn't rude and that despite being a borderline waste of breath, I'm glad I gave honest feedback. I played Panshanger years ago and it was always in better condition than the sorry state it's in now. The greens used to be very good. Today they're a mess. Any retort to this undeniable evidence of how poor the areas around the holes were will be duly laughed at.

Played late morning so price band to £21. Good challenge and value . Lots of slopes and bunkers but very enjoyable. Friendly shop staff and The View Bar on the complex is very nice . Good value for money .

Panshanger was the first course I ever played, I started just over a year ago. I recently moved to Hitchin, so its now very local and I am playing here a couple of times a week. Pros: The staff here are amazing, super friendly and helpful. It is cheap, especially compared to other local courses and there are always tee times available. Its a fun yet challenging course, if you haven't played here i'd recommend giving it a try. The food is great, tasty and good value for money. Cons: The course is not in the best condition at the moment, tee boxes recently havent been what you'd expect. Most of the greens are okay but youll find patches of dried mud, unrepaired pitch marks and things like that on some holes. Just needs a bit of TLC. I play usually after work around 5-6pm at the moment. Ive been finding that groups will just jump on without paying, cutting infront of us and ruining the pace of play. Very unfair for paying regulars, and they tend to get hostile when confronted. Not really sure how this situation can be dealt with, but I generally tend to just keep playing even if they're standing in the middle of my fairway. Stupid games = stupid prizes. There also seems to be a general lack of golfing etiquette, stray balls flying around without warning, slow players not letting you play through and things like that. Overall, its a good course, good staff and usually have a good round here. Just needs a bit of love and attention to bring it back to its former glory, and a few bad actors sometimes ruining it for others.

My 9 y/o son is really getting into golf and as of last week, I took him to Panshanger to play on the pitch & putt course to get him ready for his next step on a proper course. Since our original visit, we've been back four times. My son loves it there. The course is ideal for a little fin with friends & family or if you're introducing your youngsters to golf. The condition in places is disappointing and could be easily remedied, but it does the trick. £4 for a junior, £6 for an adult is great value for money. The staff in the professional shop are very friendly and helpful and the food and drink on offer in the adjacent restaurant is decent and well priced. A really nice facility which we'll be visiting a lot more...

Never played here before. So some notes if its your first time. - Pro shop not overly helpful - Toilets covered in excrement - Walls of toilets covered in spit - No hot water in toilets or changing rooms - Greens played ok and looked after - Course was covered in rubbish - Bins over flowing - Venue had a party on with music so loud you could hear it the whole way around the round. Unlikely to return.
Tom E — Google review
Good value course. Pace of play can be slow, but it's hard to complain given the price Update: played here a few times recently during the week and it's very quiet - easy to whizz round. Update 2024: I would note that although the course continues to be reasonable value, the greens and bunkers do leave something to be desired. Lots of bobbles and patchy grass on the greens and very stoney bunkers
Lawrence R — Google review
Played there yesterday and greens were in pretty good condition although fairways not so good because lack of rain. Game spoilt by 3 feral teenagers walking across the course causing damage and also shouting out purposely to put golfers off their shots. We've seen this group before damaging fences and slamming bunker rakes into the fairways and greens. Whoever the course ranger is needs to do something before the situation gets ugly.

Vertigo Adventures, located in the family-friendly Stanborough Park in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, offers a range of thrilling activities for visitors to enjoy. The staff at Vertigo Adventures are highly commendable, providing excellent support and encouragement to all participants. The available activities include low ropes, high ropes, the drop, zip wire and a climbing wall. After spending around 1.5 hours engaging in these exciting ventures, both children and adults alike find themselves pleasantly exhausted.
Just had my daughters 13th birthday here. The staff were absolutely fantastic and encouraging with all the children. I booked them on all five activities which were, low ropes, high ropes, the drop, zip wire and the climbing wall. We were there 1.5hours and all the kids were knackered! ( we had them all sleep over and all of them were asleep by 11!) Thank you vertigo.

Me and my fiancé went today and had a lot of fun. I had a massive case of wobbly legs and we both haven't done anything like that in a long time, so we were quite rubbish and slow. However, Amelia was a star 🌟 she was kind, encouraging, funny and didn't make us feel like a bother or like we were taking too long at any point. She's an asset to the team, made the experience way better and came and supported us at the end when we were both getting a bit tired. Would go again (once my muscles have recovered!), and would recommend to other couples as a unique date idea!

My daughter loved this experience and conquered her fears by doing the highest course. The staff were great and really helped her when she got a bit scared and struggled. With abit of encouragement she was able to go the whole way round and then finished off with the zip line. She felt amazing after and can’t wait to go back. Really recommend this!

We had a really great experience at Vertigo Adventures for my child’s birthday party! The staff were fantastic — very friendly, always smiling, patient, and made sure the kids had a brilliant time. The activities were exciting and safe, and everyone left with big smiles. The only small issue was communication before the event — it was a bit difficult to get in touch as my emails and phone calls weren’t answered. However, they looked into it and when we arrived, my email requested was already in place. It would be really helpful if responses were a bit quicker, especially when planning a party. Overall, the day itself was excellent and well worth it — I’d definitely recommend Vertigo Adventures for a fun and memorable birthday celebration! Thank you for making lovely memories for us..

The manager is very rude disrespectful and a bad person, probably bored with his life. I had my son's party and a little girl didn't have the right shoes and I asked another mom who hadn't come yet to bring me shoes. She was 20 minutes late while the other kids started the activity normally. The girl who works there told me that as soon as the mom with the shoes comes, the little girl and her daughter will go in. When the mum arrived ,at that time the manager came aswell and didn't let the girl's in because he said they were late and the other kids would be down in 5 minutes. I explained to him but he didn't care the girls waited 40 minutes for the next activity and they got very upset. In the next activity, one of the kids was afraid to do the zip line and sat with me. Finally, after 10 minutes, he decided to try it and I went to ask them to tie him up again. The manager didn't let me finish my sentence and answered me "NO" straight away and told me again the kids finish in a minute and that i can't do whatever i want and that the boy need to be on time he was late for the party while the boy was sitting with me the whole time🤯the little boy was crying and when I went to the zip line I asked the staff there how long it would take to finished and he told me around 15 minutes. I told him the manager didn't let the little boy play and he secretly tied the little boy up to do it and he said I don't know why the manager does that . Anyway I didn't want to make a fuss but it's not worth going to a place where they don't respect you and don't care if the kids have a good time.

Darren and his team were absolutely wonderful with a group of young people we brought from school. Flexible, patient and understanding. The young people had a brilliant time on both the high and low ropes, the climbing wall, zip wire etc. Thank you so much.

My daughter has visited here on a few occasions this year for birthday parties. The hosts were friendly and helpful with the kids, making sure they all could find some bravery in attempting the course, even if it was only part way round. My daughter enjoyed it immensely and it's a good place to come and get confidence before attempting a larger or higher course such as Go Ape or Center Parcs. There is a high ropes course too, but we've not experienced that. The height restrictions seem to be a taller than Go Ape, as kids of the same age (and broadly similar height) could only do the low ropes, whereas they were up much higher at Go Ape in Thetford a few weeks earlier.

23700kg bronze of Sir Ebenezer Howard. Founder of Letchworth Garden City.

Historical landmark
In Letchworth Garden City, visitors can find the impressive 700kg bronze statue of Sir Ebenezer Howard, the city's founder. Despite its weight, this remarkable statue is not located in Howard Park as one might expect. Instead, it can be found in the garden of Spirella House, across from the police station. Its size alone is enough to capture anyone's attention and spark curiosity about its history and significance within the city.
When I was looking for the main sites of Letchworth garden city, I saw a picture of the statue. I thought he would be at Howard Park, but no. I was walking using Google Maps, and kept walking, not knowing that the statue was in the garden of the Spirella House. Then I saw on the map that the statue is across the road from the police station. I had to enter the garden of the Spirella to see it. I was mainly intrigued by its size. Because he weighs the same as me... times 10. According to what I know, it is customary to sculpt in wax, than apply bronze on it. When it dries, its time to melt the wax. That's how they sculpted during the Renaissance in Italy anyway. Here they wanted to glorify the founder of the city, as he deserves, and did not spare the bronze. Howard's face and clothes, sculpted with an emphasis on the small details. The statue is impressive and very beautiful. An important landmark in the city, like the magnificent building behind the statue
