History museum
Museums
Housed in the 16th-century Palazzo del Marzocco, Museo della Battaglia e di Anghiari showcases a diverse range of collections spanning from prehistory to ancient Roman times. The museum features an extensive display of ancient firearms and local ceramics from the 18th century. A significant portion is dedicated to a digitized collection of Leonardo's battle-related drawings. The museum also highlights the history of the Battle of Anghiari and its connection to Leonardo da Vinci.
Small but got everything.

Visit only if you're intetested about this kind of history and battles. The tour inside this museum takes around 40 mins (We forgot to see the garden). There're 3 floors, you can find two 3D maps explaining where happened this battle, and how is the area. There're also paintings, materials of the battle. Then you can watch a short movie (in Italian & English) explaining about its history, then telling about the painting that exist in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. It's good also for kids because it's very simple, and not so boring. On the ground floor they sell collection of books also for kids, and some toys related to the battle, or Leonardo da Vinci in general.

If you are looking for Leonardo da Vinci (current show), save money on a book. Only posters. Small local museum. Nothing more.

(Translated by Google) It's a pretty disappointing museum. A very pleasant and well-kept container, the sixteenth-century Palazzo del Marzocco, corresponds to a modest content, not up to expectations. Of the battle of Anghiari there are only a few illustrative panels and a model of the deployments, which are not of high quality. The sector dedicated to weapons is very sparse and the weapons date back to centuries after the battle. Sure, you can read the fascinating story of the lost wall painting that Leonardo created for the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, but frankly you can read it anywhere. Virtual reconstructions just need to be made available and you can view them more comfortably at home. There are some paintings, but always without any connection with the battle, except a seventeenth-century copy of part of Leonardo's lost work and little else. The battle of Anghiari fought in 1440 between the Milanese troops of the Viscontis and the coalition led by the Republic of Florence deserves the presence of real and not virtual objects.

Museo di Palazzo Taglieschi is located in the Parco dei Monti Rognosi, a natural reserve in the Valtiberina Toscana. The museum, housed in a historic building constructed from medieval tower houses, has been showcasing art and architectural pieces since 1975. Visitors can admire works such as a Nativity by Andrea della Robbia and a wooden sculpture of the Virgin by Jacopo della Quercia.
Well worth a visit..beautiful Renaissance artifacts and buildings to look at and marvel at the wonderful craftsmanship. Lovely town to wander around filled with narrow winding streets. Great places to eat and drink..full of character. Loved it. Recomend spending the day there. Check out some of the beautiful churhes too and see one of the most historic paintings of all..

I have previously lived in Italy and have visited dozens of museums throughout the peninsula; this was by far the worst Italian museum experience I have ever had. Better artifacts can be viewed in any antique Italian church for free, and the cold, unwelcoming, and condescending staff seem to try their best to destroy whatever atmospheric charm this small, bush-league exhibition could possess. Museo di Palazzo Taglieschi is a thoroughly mediocre museum paired with a thoroughly unfriendly staff. Don’t waste your time or money.
Caleb G — Google review
This would be a nice museum, however the staff hovers over you as if waiting for you to break or touch something. Our family went through - my husband and four children ages 13 to 22. My 22 year old son ( an honors history major - who studied a year in Viterbo) was told he was not allowed to go ahead of us and had to stay with us. My son has been in museums all over Italy much larger and grander than this museum and was never treated this rudely. It was ridiculous. Hard to enjoy the art and history while someone looks over your shoulder and directs you to the next room. She even opened the door to let us exit.

(Translated by Google) Visited with everything that the Borgo contains... which is a lot. The Palace, which we see today, is the Renaissance result of an incorporation of previously existing tower houses and older structures and was the home of the Taglieschi family. Only this has already been "discovered" (I guarantee because it is a "choppy" route in a suggestive ups and downs) in the visit to the State Museum which collects the testimonies of the territory ranging from "material" coming from abandoned churches and not to collections such as those of weapons. For those who are lucky enough to happen upon "themed" visits there is the possibility of accessing the loggia from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the village but... it didn't happen to me... alas. It is possible to purchase a single ticket for entry to the Battle Museum. Remember that you enter on the hour (for example, I entered at 11:00) because you are accompanied on the visit. Once out I recommend climbing the stairs of Via della Torre... you can observe photographic glimpses at every step.

Spread over three floors and a basement, it displays, among others, a wonderful "Madonna and Child" by Jacopo della Quercia and a beautiful "Nativity" by Andrea della Robbia. (Translated by Google) An absolutely fascinating visit to a museum which is a more unique than rare set of ancient tower houses conglomerated in a single labyrinthine palace. Inside there are very valuable wooden sculptures of sacred art that come from the surrounding area. The Madonnas with Child are also enchanting because they offer the possibility of enjoying women's fashion from the thirteenth to the fifteenth century down to the smallest details, in the rendering of the colored fabrics and the hairstyles painted on the wood. The Madonna by Jacopo della Quercia is marvelous with its sweet and intense expression. The lady who accompanied us on the visit was perfect and explained very interesting things to us.

The Badia di San Bartolomeo, also known as Chiesa di Badia, is an ancient Catholic church in Anghiari. Constructed by the Camaldolese monks in 1104, it holds the distinction of being one of the oldest churches in the area. Not immediately recognizable as a church from its exterior, the interior is notably unique and strikingly asymmetrical due to numerous modifications made over the centuries.
(Translated by Google) The abbey of San Bartolomeo was founded by the Camaldolese monks at the beginning of the 12th century. The convent church, rebuilt after being used as a stronghold, has a curious asymmetrical interior due to the renovations. Expanded in the 15th century, it underwent further alterations in the 18th century which brought the interior to its currently visible state. Among the works preserved inside, a finely crafted wooden Madonna and Crucifix stand out.

(Translated by Google) The construction of the church is not certain, however the first document that mentions it dates back to 1105. It was the church of the Camaldolese monastery of S. Bartolomeo and constituted the first place of worship in Anghiari. Subsequently rebuilt, it was modified in 1446 creating the current asymmetrical interior. The beautiful stone facade is a bit surprising due to the presence of unusual architectural elements such as a small terrace and windows typical of homes. Even the interior, with a single nave, is particular because it is asymmetrical, meaning the presbytery is not aligned with the rest of the church. The stone altar is interesting as are two wooden sculptures, one of the Madonna with child and a Crucifix from the end of the 13th century which every year, on May 3rd, is carried in procession on the feast day of the Holy Cross.

Nestled at the pinnacle of Anghiari's main square, Palazzo Pretorio is a stunning historical gem that dates back to the 14th century. Castello Di Sorci, a castle of Lombard origin, has a rich history dating back to the 12th century. Originally owned by the Barbolani of Galbino, it later came under the Tarlati family and then Florentine domination in 1385. The castle was home to Baldaccio Bruni, a renowned mercenary captain praised by Niccolo Machiavelli.

Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie - Propositura Insigne Di Anghiari is a charming church located in the village of Anghiari, accessible from the strada provinciale. The church, also known as the Propositura, was built in the 18th century and houses several notable artworks including Giovanni Antonio Sogliano's Ultima Cena (the Last Supper) and Domenico Ubaldini's Deposition from the Cross.
(Translated by Google) Beautiful Church full of treasures to discover... certainly the most interesting I visited today in the Borgo. It is a place of Propositura, that is, it is the place where the Provost (Prelate title) resides. Inside, behind the main altar, there is the Madonna della Misericordia, a work by Andrea Della Robbia (in Piazza Mameli, where it was originally placed, inside a newsstand with doors, today there is a copy) but above all a In my opinion, this is a work of extreme interest by Sogliani... or rather two; the Last Supper and the Washing of the Feet. Another church that can be visited is, at the entrance of the village, in front of the road that goes down to Sansepolcro (a "straight line" which in the first part has a slope of 13% ... passing through the places that saw the famous Battle take place of Anghiari) the Church of the Cross where, it is said, Saint Francis, returning from Assisi, planted a wooden Cross. Lorenzo Taglieschi, a 17th century chronicler to whom one of the museums in Piazza Mameli is dedicated, is buried inside. Also worth mentioning are works by Passignano and Curradi. I left it for last, but only because being in Via Garibaldi, it lends itself to being visited together with the Museums of Piazza Mameli, the Church of Sant'Agostino. It is in Baroque style but, in my opinion, it needs a serious recovery plan... nevertheless it has its reasons.

(Translated by Google) As we enter the Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie in Anghiari, we immediately feel the deep historical and spiritual value of this place. The church, also known as Propositura Insigne, stands proudly in this medieval town, whose rich history is reflected in every stone and every alley. From the outside we are impressed by the simple yet elegant appearance of the facade, which is typical of Renaissance churches. As you enter the church, the atmosphere becomes calmer and more sublime. The high ceilings and ornate walls draw our eyes upward as we admire the beauty of the frescoes and altars. This church was built in the 15th century and is considered a significant example of Renaissance architecture in Tuscany. It was originally built to house a miraculous image of the Virgin Mary, which is particularly revered by believers in the region. In the middle of the main altar is the valuable image of the Madonna delle Grazie, which is considered the sacred center of the church. We feel the long tradition of faith that radiates from this place and can well imagine how generations of believers came here to seek comfort and help. What is particularly impressive is the connection between art and religious devotion, which is reflected in the church's furnishings. Around the main altar and in the side aisles we see several beautiful paintings and sculptures depicting various religious scenes. These works of art come from different eras and add to the sublime atmosphere. We also notice the special silence that fills the room and we sense that this is a place of contemplation and prayer. The history of the church is closely linked to that of Anghiari, a town known for its strategic location and the famous Battle of Anghiari in 1440. This battle, which took place nearby, was an important moment in Tuscan history and was even immortalized in a lost painting by Leonardo da Vinci. In this church, art, history and spirituality combine in a unique way. We feel deeply touched by the atmosphere in the Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie. It is not only a place of faith, but also a living monument of Tuscan art and culture. As of: September 25, 2024 *Many people know that they are unhappy. Everything about this place is memorable. Really quality homemade food, an imaginative menu, a huge selection of wine and wonderful personal customer service. The pasta is all homemade and served with delicious sauces. We visited with a child in a wheelchair and got in easily, the table height was perfect and the hosts made sure we were comfortable. We shared a lovely evening at Da Alighiero, which is just a short walk from the main square, Piazza Baldaccio, in Anghiari. The Florentine steak was amazing, the wine was delicious and the atmosphere was cozy and romantic. We had the opportunity to meet the proprietor, Sylvia, who is such a delightful and interesting woman - she was so welcoming, both to her restaurant and to the town. I can guarantee we will be back!

What a gem. We went twice on our week long trip. (The person who complained about the portion size is clearly not used to eating in Europe.) Homemade ravioli was delicious. The pasta with the chickpeas I was so surprised how much I loved it. And Da Alighiero was the best Florentine steak we had our entire trip. Random but the mashed potatoes were delicious. Silvia & Gianni went above and beyond for our baby - made her a heart shaped breadstick and gave her a balloon. Gianni knows his wine!!!

SO GLAD WE DID Absolutely no complaints. The food was even better than we expected and, maybe its a result of the negative reviews, the owner and service were excellent. We were made to feel very welcome and he was not at all rude. It's been the best meal we've had all holiday and would definitely go back.

Nestled in the picturesque Terra d'Arezzo, Vecchia Osteria la Pergola is a charming traditional eatery that perfectly captures the essence of rustic Italian dining. With its inviting stone fireplace for those chilly winter evenings and a delightful garden courtyard to escape the summer heat, this osteria offers an authentic experience. Guests can indulge in local specialties such as handmade ravioli and tagliolini with duck, all made from fresh ingredients sourced within a kilometer radius.
There's a Tuscany still preserving its authenticity and wild beauty. In "Arezzo's land" you can still find places miraculously saved from the chaos of a "stop and go" kind of tourism. Small paradises where if you stop once, you will never go away; you will taste their food again and again, you will talk to it and to those who cook it and you will smell true flavours, rediscovering the pleasure of a meal.

The Chiesa di Santo Stefano, constructed during the medieval era, consists of a central core flanked by three apses and an entrance. This captivating place of worship houses a fifteenth-century panel called Madonna and Child with Saints, created by the talented Florentine artist Domenico di Michelino. It is a small yet distinctive church that annually showcases a delightful nativity scene within its confines.
(Translated by Google) The church of Santo Stefano is a sacred building located in via della Battaglia in Anghiari. It is an ancient building of worship, an example of early medieval architecture (7th-8th century) with clear Byzantine-Ravenna influence. The church is located outside the town walls and more precisely at the beginning of the plain that reaches up to Sansepolcro. It is made up of a central nucleus with a square plan, on the sides of which there are three protruding apses and a quadrilateral body with an entrance function. Inside, the columns with Ionic capitals are Roman elements. Interpretations on the function and chronology of this church are conflicting. The hypothesis that it was a Catholic church built in the Lombard era as opposed to another, now disappeared, of Arian cult appears more likely. The 15th century panel found inside is valuable and depicts the Madonna with Child and Saints by the Florentine painter Domenico di Michelino, unfortunately hit by the flood of 1966.

(Translated by Google) Citerna is a small and charming town near Città di Castello, classified as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. It preserves the medieval fortifications and the walkways on them intact. The name of the town probably derives from the enormous underground cisterns through which rainwater was collected and decanted. The modanna with the wooden child by Donatello and the fresco by Andrea de la Robbia are valuable. Little remains of the abbey after the bombings of World War II, from which you can admire the upper Tiber valley. The Church boasts a work by Niccoló Circignani 1530-1597) known as Pomarancio because he was born in the town of Pomarance near Pisa. The work is a beautiful crucifixion with over 30 figures. Have fun finding a black man with glasses often interpreted as the evil one but probably representing a dirty chemist with scents. The same church boasts a work by Luca dell Robbia, a splendid Madonna with child restored in 2011. Tuscans omnipresent to raise the beauty and artistic level of many places in Italy. Basilica di San Francesco is a 13th-century Roman Catholic church known for housing the famous Legends of the True Cross frescoes. The cycle of frescoes, inspired by the Legenda Aurea, depicts the story of the piece of wood used to build Jesus's cross. The basilica itself is a small brick and stone structure located in a square of the same name. Although incomplete in its covering and ornamentation, it remains popular among visitors.
Because of frescoes which are the main attraction in this cathedral, are most important ones around main altar presenting The History of the True Cross from 1400s. In those times most people were illiterate and for them to understand Bible is to make it like a comic books today.....pictures that follow and tell a story. There is another story on the wall, fresco, that was amazing to me. Of archangel Gabriel.
Rok S — Google review
For most people the attraction of the Basilica di San Francesco boils down to one things: the fresco by Piero della Francesca. And to be fair it is an astonishing piece of work even if it does give you neck ache. His rendering of the History of the True Cross is vivid and alive in a remarkable way. Still the church does offer a few more attractions with other frescoes and creations scattered about. There's plenty of space and quite a lot to enjoy if you like Renaissance religious buildings. I can imagine that it gets busy in the holidays but out of season it was a delight.

Large and interesting basilica. Most visitors immediately head for the frescos behind the large hanging cross at the pulpit. Be sure to look to the left just as you pass the ticket booth. There is a beautiful chapel serving as a war memorial to Italian casualties.

A must for Piero della Francesca fans, people who don’t care much should leave space for those, who can appreciate. This is one of the most otherworldly early Renaissance art experiences and the 30 minute slot allotted to visitors will surely stay in their memories forever! Otherwise it’s a nice experience too. Friendly staff, good explanation aids provided. Well worth the effort!

Time to visit Piero della Francesca frescos formally limited to 30 mins, but, at least out of season, nobody checks if you leave on time. The rest of the church worth attention as well. You have to pay for ticket reservation no matter if you buy online or onsite. In October it was no problem to have a ticket for same day, only couple of time slots were fully sold out. A backpacks have to be left in a locker at the entrance. There is a toilet inside.

Superb visit where I could admire frescoes in this Gothic Basilica with painting from the 14th century, houses one of the greatest masterpieces of the Renaissance, the “Legend of the True Cross” by Piero della Francesca, the extraordinary cycle painted by the artist between 1452 and 1455 approximately in the Bacci Chapel.

Casa Vasari is a historic home in Arezzo, showcasing intricately detailed fresco murals, sculptures, and paintings. It has been transformed into a museum where visitors can marvel at the decorations created by Giorgio Vasari himself. The museum also houses the Vasari Archive, featuring letters from Vasari and other prominent figures of his time, including Michelangelo. Additionally, it displays some family paintings.
House Vasari in Arezzo is a great spot for anyone who loves art and history. It was the home of Giorgio Vasari, a key figure in the Renaissance who was a painter, architect, and writer. Inside, you can see rooms decorated with his beautiful frescoes, giving a sense of 16th-century style. Highlights include Vasari's studio, the Hall of Fame with portraits of famous people, and a large collection of his drawings and sketches. Visiting the house gives you a close-up look at Vasari's life and work, making it a must-see in Arezzo.

Que bella, questa casa! Beautiful house of multitalent Giorgio Vasari, artist, architect, author! A miracle that these frescoes on ceilings and paintings - from the Renaissance ! - remained intact. Impressive, admission price of 4 Euros I found very fair. Be sure to check availability (and ideally reserve) as only few people are allowed in at one time. The presentation of information could be better, a bit more modern. But: great museum!

The historical house of the artist and art historian Giorgio Vasari. Very small but beautiful rooms with frescoes in the ceiling, especially notable the one with with the arts depicted (music, sculpture, painting and architecture) and the main one with the fireplace. In the latter there is a central depiction of the allegory of virtue, fortune and envy (virtù, fortuna e invidia). Depending from which side of the room you are looking the painting a different one of the three seems victorious! On the walls fire (on the fireplace side) with a city in flame and abundace on the opposite (with a city flooded).
Vincenzo R — Google review
the house can be visited separately or in a ticket combined with the church of san francesco. the visit lasts 30 minutes. you only visit one floor and the garden of the house. in the house you can see frescoes painted by Vasari and other painters from that period. The house is well preserved. Vasari, painter, architect and Italian art historian, became famous through his work: "The lives of the most renowned Italian architects, painters and sculptors, from Cimabue to our times." Giorgio Vasari was born on July 30, 1511 in Arezzo. In the year 1550 the first edition of the work to which Vasari's reputation is linked appears: "Vite de 'più eccellenti architetti, pittori et scultori italiani da Cimabue insino a' TEMPOS", in which he orders the materials collected since 1540 on the life and works great artists. During this period he meets Michelangelo, who advises him to also deal with architecture. In 1568 the second edition of his capital work of art history "Vite de 'più eccellenti ..." appears, enriched with new materials and which constitutes to this day an indispensable source of documentation in this field. In 1554 he settled in Florence, invited by the Duke Cosimo I de 'Medici, who hired him for urban and architectural works. It begins with the restructuring of the old palace ("Palazzo Vecchio"), then continues with the construction of the administrative building "Palazzo degli Uffizi", which will be completed only in 1580, after his death, and which will later become the famous art gallery. In 1563 he begins the great frescoes for the decoration of the "di Cinquecento" salon in Palazzo Vecchio, and in 1565 he begins to build the so-called "Corridoio vasariano" ("The Vasarian Corridor"), which unites Palazzo Vecchio with Palazzo Pitti, crossing the Arno river over Ponte Vecchio, which should serve as a refuge for the ducal family in case of need.

The Civic Museum Madonna del Parto in Monterchi, Tuscany, is home to the renowned fresco of a pregnant Virgin Mary painted by Piero della Francesca. The museum has recently undergone effective renovations and features a room dedicated to the masterpiece with perfectly positioned lighting. Additionally, two new rooms offer a theater-like video providing insight into Monterchi, the fresco, and the artist. Visitors praise the excellent interpretation materials available in Italian and English.
The Museum was renewed recently in a very effective way. The main attraction is, of course, the room with the masterpiece by Piero della Francesca, where the lights are positioned perfectly. There are also two new rooms with a brilliant “theater-like” video that introduces Monterchi, the fresco and the painter. Very well done and strongly recommended.

Arezzo is a small town and most of the main visitor sites can be seen in a few days. The highlight for me was the Fortezza Medicea. We visited on the Sunday of the first weekend in July to escape the ' antiques fair' held that expensive weekend (of which the vast majority of stalls sold mostly 'tot' ). We mostly had the site to ourselves. The mainer reason for visiting is the glorious views over the town and the hilly countryside. A slow walk around the walls is relaxing and the site is not too expensive to enter. You can walk through the inside of some of the walls to cool down afterwards. The Fortezza is accessed through Parco Il Prato a largish park that was being set up for their summer festival. It was a good (if slightly expensive cafe) to sit and enjoy a cappuccino and after the visit.

It's the only restaurant around, and unfortunately that results in it being worse that any other I visited in Florence or Arezzo. Rok S — Google review
I am reviewing the “astronomical clock” … 3rd edition (4Jun2025)! There is an excellent article on the clock on tourismo.it by Flaminia Sworn, dated 10Jan2019. I will summarise the clock’s features. It was installed in 1552, but the geocentric arrangement is pre-Copernicus (1515), per the prevailing orthodoxy. i.e., the Earth is at the centre, and the Moon is in a closer orbit than the Sun. The Sun hand therefore rotates once every 12 hours, the a.m./ p.m. factor being evident to the observer in the piazza (from the degree of darkness). The Moon hand rotates every 24 hours and 50 minutes, i.e., the moon rises, on average, about 50 minutes later each day. There is, per Sword, a [simple] noon sundial, to make corrections to the clock at the meridian crossing of the Sun and/or Moon. My photo of the sundial was taken at 12:43 (Arezzo longitude is 11.898 E). There are 30 gradations for the days of the month. I expect they have to make manual adjustments for January, February, March, May, July, August, October, and December. This dial rotates with the Moon hand (you can see daylight all around the Moon globe, looking thru the clock mechanism from inside the tower). There is also a minute hand, and the clock chimes each quarter hour. The Moon hand has a clever feature in that the Moon, painted half gold and half black, rotates to reveal the moon phase. N.B. The Moon hand is calibrated so it depicts the Moon as seen from the Northern Hemisphere, looking south. See my photograph, taken in the early evening on the same day. There are several photos on this website already showing a broad view of the clock mechanism. When I photographed the clock this morning (30May2025), and also observed it with my binoculars, the Moon hand and the Sun hand were not correctly positioned (according to my analysis above), but the Moon phase was correct (waxing crescent, see photo taken same day). I suspect they need adjustment. I would be interested in comments on my analysis, or referral to a more detailed analysis than may be available. Fausto Casi (1999)?

Casa Museo Ivan Bruschi is a must-visit for those interested in learning about the history of the fair. This was the residence of Ivan Bruschi, an affluent art dealer and collector who established the fair in 1968. A visit to this museum provides insight into the origins of the event and offers a glimpse into Bruschi's life and his significant contributions to the world of art and culture.
(Translated by Google) The Ivan Bruschi House Museum, in front of the Romanesque parish church of Santa Maria in Arezzo, was born from the eclecticism and taste of the great antiquarian whose name it bears. Founded in the 1960s, the collection includes around 8,000 pieces, including archaeological finds, sculptures, paintings by artists such as Tintoretto and Guido Reni, furniture, armour, fabrics, jewelery and art objects from different eras and cultures. Spread over three floors and sixteen rooms of the fourteenth-century palace, the exhibition enhances the value of the countless treasures collected by the collector. The visit includes a suggestive library and a panoramic terrace overlooking the Pieve. At the time of my visit, a small additional display on the "Tournaments of Tuscany" was available, which was very suggestive. It is certainly worth a visit. (Translated by Google) It is worth visiting this house museum for the quantity and variety of pieces on display, in particular there are interesting and even curious archaeological and historical pieces, ornaments, everyday objects, books, maps, animals and pieces of art and finally it ends on the roof of the house with a beautiful view of the city. A good visit can also take one to two hours. The only lack: a few chairs to rest in the rooms would have been appreciated. Located to the right of palazzo Taglieschi is the chiesa di Sant'Agostino, a Catholic church steeped in historical significance. Legend has it that its origins can be traced back to Thomas Becket's visit in 1162. Although it underwent modifications in the 13th and 15th centuries, the present structure dates back to the 13th century.
(Translated by Google) The Church of Sant'Agostino in Anghiari dates back to the end of the 12th century and underwent several transformations until the 15th century. According to tradition, it was born as a chapel founded by the Hospitallers of Sant'Antonio Abate, who arrived in the Tiber Valley in the 12th century. The current building, the result of works in the 15th century, has a single nave with side chapels and a tower apse, the facade has a Renaissance portal and an oculus. The interiors, decorated in Baroque style, preserve fourteenth-century frescoes and a valuable polychrome terracotta depicting the Adoration of the Shepherds. (Translated by Google) As we stand in front of the Chiesa di Sant'Agostino in Anghiari, we immediately realize that we are standing in front of a building with rich historical significance. The church, built in the 13th century, is a stunning example of medieval religious architecture and reflects the influence of the Augustinians in this region. As we approach the facade, we notice how simple yet majestic the architecture appears. The Gothic elements, emphasized by the pointed entrance portal and narrow windows, remind us that this was not only a place of prayer, but also a center of the city's spiritual life. Here the people of Anghiari have gathered for centuries to find solace and upliftment. Inside the church we feel the peaceful atmosphere that emanates from the high vaulted ceilings and the old stone walls. It is easy to imagine how monks and believers once prayed here in silence and received the spiritual teachings of the Augustinians. The frescoes that adorn some of the walls tell stories from the Bible and the lives of the saints, and although they have faded somewhat over the centuries, their artistic value is undeniable. These paintings date from the Renaissance, a period in which Anghiari was influenced by the artistic flourishing in Tuscany. Historically, the Chiesa di Sant'Agostino played a significant role in the social and spiritual life of the city. Throughout the region's centuries of unrest, war and change, it has remained a place of stability. It was not only a religious center, but also a place where important decisions for the community were made. Many of Anghiari's important families had their chapels here, and the church often served as a refuge in times of need. When we think of the church, we remember the important role it has played in the history of Anghiari, both as a religious institution and as a cultural and social hub. It is not only an architectural gem, but also a living part of the city's history - a place that is still embedded in the community today and is perceived by many people as a symbolic place of spiritual continuity and historical heritage. (Translated by Google) The origins of the church of S. Agostino, according to the scholar Lorenzo Taglieschi, seem to be linked to the passage from Anghiari of Tommaso Beckett (1115-1170), the famous holy Chancellor of Henry II of England who was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury, in whose cathedral was murdered by the king's assassins. Beckett would have obtained in 1164 from Rolando di Montedoglio, the Abbot of San Bartolomeo, the charcoal pits of the Castle which were located outside the walls. In this place the Hospitallers of St. Anthony the Abbot (also called Tau or Vienne), who according to tradition arrived in the Tiber Valley following the archbishop of Canterbury, built hermitages and an oratory dedicated to St. Anthony. In 1188 this community accepted the rule of Saint Augustine. In questo luogo gli Ospedalieri di S. Our family of four stayed in the green room for four nights. The kids loved the pool and swam every day. Breakfast was included and was amazing!!! Fresh eggs, local cheese, homemade pastries - plus coffee, tea, juices. We were blown away and ate so much. For lunch and dinner we would take the quick walk to Anghiari which was adorable. There is also a winery that was 20 mins away by foot. But we also bought the local wine from the agruturismo itself. We didn’t have a car so the location was so perfect plus the family was sooooo nice!!

Last august (mind I am writing almost one year later, and still taking time to review this!) we stayed here for a week with our tent in the olive orchard. The owner is very friendly and hospitable. He lent us his MTB's for a ride in the mountains and he helped us picking a good plot for our tent, even gave us electricity for free. The swimming pool is clean. The surroundings are beautiful. Anghiari is small, but nice. We came by bus from Arezzo and used the supermarket at the end of the street. Absolutely recommended!

We camped here in our motorhome late June 2019. The host met us and explained the we could only stay one night as it was booked up for the coming weekend. They then offered us another spot a few hundred yards from our original and apologised that there was no shade in the new spot but our awning provided all the shade we needed. The pool, WiFi, toilet, shower, grey and black water discharge are included in the 20 euros per night charge. The WiFi is excellent and the showers are clean with no restriction on time or volume of water. Breakfast is available for 5 euros. The usual continental breakfast plus eggs however you want them. Caps should be worn in the pool. They will loan one if you don't have one. We bought a local good wine from the host for only 2 euros per bottle. The husband and wife hosts and staff are extremely helpful and obliging and both speak better English than I can speak Italian. You have free run of the estate of vineyards and olive groves. I can heartily recommend this establishment.

(Translated by Google) The idea of building a new theater in Arezzo dates back to 1828, when a group of local notables, eager to bring opera to the city, promoted the construction of a theater to replace the old Teatro della Fenice. The Florentine architect Vittorio Bellini was chosen for the project, and the suitable area was identified among state lands belonging to the Badia. The works began on 5 February 1830 and, after just 235 days, the roofing was completed. The theater opened on 21 April 1833 with Donizetti's opera Anna Bolena. Subsequently, accessory structures were added, such as the ballroom in 1835 and a new entrance building in 1892. The most recent restoration concluded in 2015. The theater has a horseshoe layout with 4 tiers of boxes and can accommodate 518 spectators. Nestled between a tributary of the Sovara River and the Provincial Road of Libbia, Galbino Castle stands as a remarkable testament to medieval architecture. Originally built in the 11th century, this castle has undergone significant transformations over time, evolving from a feudal stronghold for the Counts of Montauto into an elegant noble residence. Its rectangular layout features a central turret and cylindrical towers at each corner, while an exquisite loggia adorned with stone columns graces its facade.
Had a fabulous stay at Castello di Galbino for my husbands 50th birthday. The setting is stunning - beautiful peaceful countryside & an authentic tuscan castle. The church features works such as the Invention of the Cross by Francesco Curradi and the Immaculate Conception by Domenico Cresti.
(Translated by Google) The church of the Cross is located at the end of the Ruga di San Martino (or "Straight" of Anghiari), the road that connects Anghiari to Sansepolcro and ideally continues towards the hermitage of Montecasale. Its origins can be traced back to the passage of Saint Francis in 1224, when he planted a cross in this place, at the intersection of three paths. Here, in the 16th century, the Confraternity of Santa Maria al Borghetto built the Church of the Cross. Externally, the Renaissance church stands out for its portico and a beautiful bell tower. Internally, the single nave houses altars and mannerist and baroque paintings.

Historical landmark
Palazzo Bruni Ciocchi, also known as Palazzo della Dogana, is a stunning example of Renaissance architecture nestled in the heart of Arezzo. Constructed beginning in 1445 under the direction of Donato Bruni, son of the renowned humanist Leonardo, this impressive fifteenth-century edifice showcases the rich history and artistic heritage of the region.
(Translated by Google) Palazzo Bruni Ciocchi, located in via San Lorentino 8 in Arezzo, is an imposing fifteenth-century building built by Donato Ciocchi, son of the Florentine Chancellor Leonardo Ciocchi. It passed to the Ciocchi di Monte San Savino and, in the seventeenth century, to the Barbolani counts, who renovated the interiors. In the post-Napoleonic era it became the property of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, hosting a warehouse for goods subject to monopoly and the Customs Offices, which is why it is also known as the Palazzo della Dogana. Since 1958 it has been home to the Museum of Medieval and Modern Art, consolidating itself as an important cultural reference point in the city.

Led by the passionate Francesco and his delightful partner Olivia, guests are treated to an informative journey through the history and intricacies of olive oil making.
We had such a lovely time, the whole process of making olive oil was explained to us. We got to try the olive oil, and different infused oils, balsamic and homemade wines. A lovely lady made us pasta for lunch and loads of nibbles to try. The guy is so lovely and full of life, passionate about what he does. Would highly recommend, good value for money!

Great experience from start to finish. Francesco is very passionate about his oil production but also very modest. He gives a good explanation of the history and details of the oil production process they use (cold press), and then a short walk along the country lane to an amazing lunch using produce from Francesco’s garden.
