Aquarium
Zoos & Aquariums
If you're seeking an unforgettable marine experience, look no further than Deep Sea World, Scotland's national aquarium nestled beneath the iconic Forth Bridge. This captivating destination is perfect for families and offers a unique opportunity to explore the wonders of underwater life. With its impressive 112-meter acrylic tunnel, visitors can walk through a mesmerizing ocean filled with vibrant fish and majestic sharks swimming just inches away.
This is so wonderful. Came from Edinburgh for a day out with my boyfriend and can honestly say it has been a delightful experience. I've been to a few aquariums, and this one did not disappoint in terms of species variety and exhibition. The staff are all enthusiastic and friendly, and the food in the cafe was lush. Prices are a bit steep but the cost is understandable, and in my opinion 100% worth it. I love fishes :)

Highly recommend for birthday parties!!! We were treated like V.I.Ps and they made my 7 year old daughter feel extra special. Unlike some birthday party places around Edinburgh, we had a very kind and friendly woman (Hope) stay with us the entire time and take the group on a tour around. We got the best space to watch the seals feeding with the lovely Abigale welcoming "our very special guest". We then had Hope lead us to the classroom where she gave everyone a great educational experience. The kids loved her as she was engaging and fun. We then went down to the tunnel where they had an underwater sign saying Happy Birthday Nora 7. When it came to food, the team helped out and Hope stayed on top of juice refills and making sure we were all happy. She was very attentive. All staff helped to make this whole experience wonderful from the lovely gentleman who welcomed us on arrival to the cafe who were serving with a smile and friendly banter. I highly recommend Deep Sea World for birthday parties. Thank you for an amazing experience.

Been before so grandparents knew what expect Great displays of fish and creatures to keep the kids happy plus spending our money in the shop. They enjoyed the carousel that takes under the water so you can look up at the fish and sharks swimming overhead. Friday afternoon so fairly busy but we did manage to park.
Neil L — Google review
It was a lovely little place that my 2 little ones really enjoyed. It is all accessible and has low tanks for little ones to be able to see. Has great information around as well. Only downside is that it is quite small and the downstairs walk through you cant take a pushchair through so you have to carry your little ones
Jasmine W — Google review
My son was really happy. I expected there would be fewer animals, but it turned out to be really cool. There were the animals my son likes the most, like axolotls, seahorses and especially seals
Eleletattoo — Google review
An amazing day out for myself and my 8 year old daughter. Interactive talks every half an hour and lots of information throughout. Food is very good, with a great selection of choice, and although it was busy (lunchtime) we didn't wait long at all.
Suzanne — Google review
Great day out! The underwater tunnel is so relaxing if you get it when it's quiet. Lots of happy fish and the staff were lovely too, open to questions and telling us about the individual fish. Some freshwater monster fish too, amazing to see the adult sizes of species that used to be common aquarium fish - loved the pacus! The seal feeding was great too, and the Mysis shrimp in the tunnel/tanks were fascinating to see.
Emilia M — Google review
Good trip out with a good selection of things to see. Quite expensive though if there's a few of you and you don't have offers to get in. Various Feeding events/talks etc every 30 mins through the day. Free all day parking and place has a cafe and gift shop.

Sights & Landmarks
The Forth Bridge, an iconic 1.5-mile-long railway marvel that opened its doors in 1890, gracefully spans the Forth estuary and serves as a stunning backdrop for exploration. Surrounding this engineering wonder are 40 captivating short walks that invite adventurers to traverse the Kingdom of Fife.
This is a stunning bridge, worthy of a visit to photograph. Parking is a little tricky to get the best spot, and the free car park they have shuts at 9pm and locks you in, charging you to exit so don’t get caught out.
Matthew B — Google review
If you ever get the opportunity to experience the top, do it! This was done as a birthday surprise for me and I absolutely love it! From the start to the top, you go through the history to an open top experience! An unforgettable experience it was and I'll definitely be doing it again!
Harry H — Google review
Visiting the forthbridge was a wonderful experience. I was amazed by it's unique structure and how well it represents Scottish engineering. I was so impressed by by how huge and strong it looks. The view from there was amazing ,especially with the water and the trains passing over the bridge.
Vinoy ( — Google review
The Forth Bridge is not only an incredible feat of engineering but also one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks. Watching the bridge at sunset is breathtaking – its massive structure looks both powerful and elegant. The viewpoint at South Queensferry is perfect for photos and a peaceful walk along the shore. A must-see for anyone who loves history, architecture, or simply beautiful scenery.
Jaromír Ž — Google review
A magnificent piece of infrastructure. Viewing this incredible bridge from North Queensferry was a great experience. I just stood and looked at the bridge for long. While looking at it, one cannot stop thinking about how this bridge was built. The engineers at the time did a fantastic job.
Ömer A — Google review
The Forth Railway Bridge was opened in 1890. It is an engineering wonder. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2015. I have crossed it many times on the train but to stand on South Queensferry Pier is a privilege. I would now like to see it from North Queensferry but that will be another time.
Allan M — Google review
We went on a trip to see the Forth bridges and it was well worth it. To be up close to the railway bridge and hear and see the trains going across was special. Because the bridge is all metal you hear the trains across the whole length. We started on the south side then crossed the newer road bridge which in its self is quite spectacular to see the railway bridge from the other side. You get to see how close the houses are built under the bridge. On the south side there is the Bikers Cove cafe that we stopped at and got a coffee and something to eat. Well worth going too, nice friendly people and good food. Steve and Jenny.

Cycled across from Rosyth but stopped coming and going to get pics and vids, dull morning that turned into a very good day. Lots of walkers ,joggers, pram pushers and cyclists . Stopped at the view point which was busy with tourists coming off the buses. Toilets and a kiosk are very handy

Bridge
The Forth Road Bridge is an impressive thoroughfare that spans over 2.5 km and offers breathtaking panoramic views. It is renowned as one of the most significant long-span suspension bridges globally, with a length of 1,006 meters between its two end towers. Adjacent to the UNESCO heritage-status Forth Rail Bridge, it features a footpath allowing visitors to traverse the entire structure.
We crossed The Forth Road bridge on our way to Dundee. It has no toll, and it had a 70mph speed limit on the day we crossed, but this can change to variable. It connects Edinburgh at South Queensferry to Fife at North Queensferry. Great suspension bridge with good views

Here’s your polished 35-word review: The Forth Bridge walkway offers breathtaking views of the iconic rail bridge and surrounding waters. I parked at South Queensferry (EH30 9RL) and enjoyed a peaceful, scenic walk filled with stunning photo opportunities.
Muntakimur R — Google review
I've driven over this bridge many times although since 2017 it's only for public transport. Today was the first time I've walked over it. There is a walkway, which can also be used for cyclists. With great views of the other bridges it's a great place for a stroll on a sunny day.

Completed in 1964, the forth road bridge is a magnificent suspension bridge spanning the river forth waters linking Edinburgh and fife it was a significant engineering achievement, featuring a main span of 1,006 meters. The bridge has facilitated road traffic across the Firth and has been an essential component of Scotland's transport infrastructure. In recent years, it has undergone maintenance and upgrades to ensure its longevity and safety, especially following the construction of the adjacent Queensferry Crossing, in 2017 the firth road bridge is no longer accessible to private cars and Lorrie’s only taxis and buses The Forth Road Bridge is an iconic symbol of Scottish engineering and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. You can walk from south Queensferry to north Queensferry grab breakfast at Scott’s then follow the path up the side of the bridge great viewpoint at north Queensferry to take photos of rail bridge lovely cafes to stop for coffee when returning to bridge go up the other steps which takes you to other side of bridge that way you get great view of the new Queensferry crossing - there is an underpass at other side which takes you back to the start - there is parking at ferry gate if you want to park closer to the bridge
Debz X — Google review
The three bridges referred as Queensferry crossing connect over the firth of fourth from south Queensferry to the northern side. These are huge bridges and worth paying a visit. There is lots of history about these bridges and the architect who was appointed for this task. A ride through these bridges on clear sunny day 🌻 is not to be missed during your visit in Scotland as they represent the marvel of Scottish modern architecture and development.
Angira S — Google review
What an amazing piece of engineering. A real spectacular feature of Scotland. There was just one bridge, now there is three bridges. Great view of the bridges from here, plus visitor toilets.

Had a great walk over the bridge. Unfortunately the other side was not open so we had to walk back the same way. Easter Sunday walk 2023. We went to North Queensferry to take pics of the forth bridge. Just a short walk from the end of the road bridge.

We’re here 3-4 times a month Never disappoints Came in today for brunch and was served by Allan, lots of banter, very pleasant and professional hospitality. Today’s chef was Colin, breakfast was a full breakfast and a veggie breakfast absolutely delicious the plate was full and didn’t need to eat for the rest of the day. If your passing call in you won’t be disappointed we go that often we practically have shares in the place.

What an amazing place to have dinner, great food, spacious and great views on the UNESCO recognized Forth Bridge (as well as the other 2 bridges), parking appears to be free (and allowed) as long as there is no cruise ship docked nearby in the morning (the evenings seem to be free always). The menu has a good selection of very tasty food. They are a dog friendly place, they even have some free snacks for the doggies. Note: you have to order food at the bar, but this is not an issue at all. Overall great place would highly recommend, especially to escape from the busy streets of Edinburgh.
Rolf S — Google review
1019/2025 We visited today for a late lunch. We were greeted and seated immediately in the bar area. The ambiance is cozy. You make your decision for food and order at the bar. The food comes out piping hot. Great tomato soup for a starter. Chicken parmigiana had bacon, which is new to us, but the flavor added is tremendous. Our other main dish is the Sunday Trio (roast beef, pork belly, and turkey) with glazed parsnips, thyme roasted carrots, herb potatoes, seasonal greens, and all the gravy one wants. This dish is exquisite. It came with a small Yorkshire pudding. This is a first for me, but the pudding was quite good.

Busy busy place nice historical decor. Had a few pints before getting on the Maid of the Forth so handy for that. Friends had food said it was good. Great view of the bridges
Shirley R — Google review
We always wanted to return here after a great stay over 25 years ago, the hotel has improved much over the years, lovely separate dining areas serving good but pricey pub grub. Rooms are fine ,ours had a view of the Forth bridge but was small and dark,( family room?) and bore no relation to the photo on the hotels own site , from which we booked direct. As expected there is a lot of train noise which we soon got used to and stops around midnight, however beware if you have a room at the front of the hotel, the local youths like to use the road outside as a race track from their souped up hatchbacks over all 3 of the night's we stayed so overall not really a relaxing stay!

The Railbridge Bistro is a vibrant bar-diner offering a Scottish bistro-style menu with stunning views of the Forth Bridge. The restaurant serves dishes like chunks of steak in ale gravy with creamy mash and vegetables, as well as delightful desserts such as raspberry milkshake cheesecake.
Had a fabulous birthday breakfast!! Our waitress Stephanie was so lovely, and so happy! We all had a couple coffees, which were delicious, and classic Scottish breakfasts. Especially loved the candle in my tattie scone once Stephanie found out it was my birthday. Thank you so much, will definitely be back!

i have been here a couple times over my years of visits. Overall I would highly suggested the Railbridge Bistro. It has wonderful views and good staff. You can even catch yourself staying late to play bar trivia and end up leaving with a gift certificate! The also have a little store area where they support local artists. The theme of the restaurant is the history of the firth of forth bridge. the menu has a good selection and their deserts are awesome!

Went here for dinner and was not disappointed.... there were 3 of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Steak and Ale pie was beautiful, full of tasty, tender chunks of meat , l had the cheeseburger which was one of the tastiest burgers l have ever had, the other person in our party had the Italian chicken.... also very well cooked and tasty... attentive staff but not overly so and reasonably priced. And of course you have the view of the bridges... we were there at night time so they were lit up making it more special... l would definitely recommend this place and will most certainly return one day...
Gaz K — Google review
We called in for a drink having been on the maid of the forth boat trip. It was a beautiful day and we sat out on the generous terrace at the front of the venue. There’s a little train in a model bridge at the front of the venue which was really entertaining. Service was great and unfortunately I left my jacket behind on the chair and only realised a week or so later - thankfully the staff have found it and have agreed to post it to me which is absolutely brilliant.
Sammi R — Google review
Had the great pleasure of eating here this evening, great food, fantastic service, just a lovely place to dine with a view to die for. The young man who served us couldn't do enough to help us, sorry didn't get his name
Jason T — Google review
The food was terrible. The waitress didn’t even comment on the fact that we hardly ate anything. The calamari (5 pieces for £8.95) were rubbery and covered in such a thick batter that they looked more like onion rings. If you want a good meal, avoid this place.
Zsali K — Google review
One of my pet peeves is a food establishment that makes minimum effort on its food and service and uses it's location to 'get away' with the minimum. I had the salmon and cream cheese wrap which lacked cream cheese and filling to the edges. The salad was limp and tired. Service was fast but don't expect a warm friendly greeting or a smile. It was interesting to see staff trying to deter seagulls by trying to spray them with cleaning chemicals too. Do yourself a favour and keep walking along the riverside.
NC H — Google review
Disappointing food for the price. The atmosphere and location are obviously very good, but the food to price ratio really brings the place down. I’m in the hospitality business so I can sympathise with the fact that prices for ingredients to the costs of operating a restaurant are almost making it impossible to charge reasonable prices and still be profitable. But if you are going to charge higher prices at the minimum I would be making sure there is care into how the food is presented and making sure it is coming out as close to “hot” as possible. My salad was a mess of hugely cut onions, peppers, etc that looked unappetising at best. My pulled pork sandwich meat was luc warm at best with a thin cheap focaccia bread. The best part of the meal were the chips which were at a perfect temperature. My wife had the katsu chicken wrap which was nothing extraordinary just some breaded chicken cut in half tightly wrapped up with a wrap. My son’s Mac and cheese was quite possibly the worst part of the meal. I tried the cheese sauce and I couldn’t taste much of a cheese taste at all. It was clumpy and extremely bland. This is one of the cheapest things to make and can still be really tasty when done correctly. This is either a lack of care into preparing the sauce or a simple cheapness of ingredients used. When I moved here 10 years ago from the states this was one of my first restaurant experiences in Scotland and I loved it. The food and that sticky toffee pudding were unbelievably excellent. Obviously, the U.K. government, covid, inflation, etc have been really awful for the hospitality sector so I hate leaving a review for a fellow restaurant like this, but I really loved this place and I think everything else is really dialled in, get the food right with a bit of passion and this place will be back on top.

Restaurant
Nestled in the picturesque setting of Port Edgar Marina, Scotts Bar & Restaurant offers a diverse menu that includes classic British dishes and international fare. The modern industrial interiors are adorned with lush greenery, creating a welcoming atmosphere for diners. From traditional fish and chips to dry-aged steaks and freshly caught seafood, the extensive menu caters to various tastes. The bar boasts an enticing selection of wines, classic cocktails, local artisan gins, and craft beers.
There is really nowhere better to spend a birthday. Scotts Bar & Restaurant in South Queensferry has everything going for it: excellent food, friendly service and exceptional views. It isn't everyday you can admire the fourth bridges whilst tucking into a 3 course meal! I had heard great things about Scotts from family & friends so thought why not celebrate my 27th birthday in style, I had left it a little late to book online but after a quick phone call to the restaurant they booked us in for 7:30pm the following day. We were down from Aberdeen visiting the area and this pitstop was needed after a full on day of shopping. The location is something special, as soon as you park up the views hit you in an instant, the restaurant itself is so fresh and modern with a nautical theming throughout. They have seating available overlooking the bridges (which require booking in advance as you can expect), the staff are so friendly and willing to go the extra mile to make your visit something special. There is also free on site parking and seating available outside which on the 2 or 3 days of Scottish summer would be spectacular. If you enjoy an array of different foods, the menu is perfect. There is something for every taste and with generous portion sizes that don't break the bank, there is no way you don't want to add Scotts to your to-do list. I have to say the chipotle chicken tacos and the mac & cheese are definitely ones to try, you just cant get enough of them. If it's a special occasion, date night or just a catch up with the family don't miss out on this South Queensferry gem!

Thank you so much for accommodating myself and my aunt yesterday. The table you reserved was fantastic and she was thrilled with her view over lunch. Efficient, friendly and smiley staff, delicious food and an excellent atmosphere. We couldn’t have been happier!

Great views and good service. Remember to enter your car registration number to get free parking. Good menu, with a variety of meat, seafood, or veggie options. I had a little issue with a couple of the dishes being under-seasoned, which is very unusual. The scallop and chorizo starter was in a white sauce which was virtually tasteless. The same sauce then reappeared on my daughter’s vegetable pasta dish with the same lack of flavour. Overall, the food was fresh and well presented. Some of the dishes seemed a little expensive for what they were. The seafood sharing platter for starters was lovely, with plenty enough on it for three to share. We would go back.

Overall, very poor... the restaurant's interior is nice, to be honest, but otherwise, nothing special... we booked a table for six, arrived on time, and it turned out the table wasn't ready, so we had to wait 20 minutes for the previous guests to kindly vacate the table... they weren't in a particular hurry;. What a lack of professionalism and respect for guests. They book tables for guests and then make everyone wait at the bar for half an hour. embarrassing... the food was mediocre. The Korean pork starter was tough. Veg burger was very average for almost 20 £ . The lobster and prawn lasagna was very heavy and very fatty. It was difficult to eat. The bruschetta starter and goat cheese starter were okay. The duck dish and tortellini dish were okay. Overall, decent, but nothing special.
Sławek N — Google review
We only needed a place for an hour before an appointment and came across this lovely place by pure accident. And how fortunate was that. Lovely atmosphere, stunning views, friendly service, possibly the best ever velvet cake and the cinnamon swirls were amazing too, which explains why I ate half of mine before remembering to take a photo! Definitely want to come back with a bit more time to linger & enjoy.

Great location and place is full of character. Just note that you don't need to pay to park if you are dining just register car when you arrive in the restaurant. The food was good but somewhat pricey for what it was.

The Boathouse is a seafood restaurant located on Portobello beach in Edinburgh's seaside. The restaurant offers fresh and top quality fish and seafood dishes, as well as stunning views of the Forth Bridge. The kitchen is open until 8:30pm every day, making it the perfect place to relax after a busy day at the beach.
What a delightful place this was! Wandered into the top part of the restaurant where we were given the option of stay upstairs and have tapas style food or go downstairs to the more traditional restaurant. We opted for downstairs to get a nice view and look at the possibility of sitting out on the terrace (which was possible but would have been chilly!). We were sat next to the window which made for a lovely backdrop to an excellent meal. The mixture of small plates and big added to the experience as we could all easily pick away at the different bits and pieces we ordered. I had steak tartare for the first time in my life here, and I was not disappointed! Thank you very much for introducing me to such a delicacy, I will definitely be looking to have this again from a place with the same standard for quality as there was in here. The oysters were the star of the show however, as the grilled ones with the Cajun butter were a rich delight to have. I also doused my fresh oyster in the provided Tabasco sauce which was zingy but exactly what I was looking for. The corn ribs and onions tided me over while everyone else tucked away into their meals. The place is undeniably quite dear as you can see from the menu, but totally expected as firstly it’s a sophisticated place with quality food, but also it’s a seaside town so prices are obviously going to be inflated a bit (I don’t judge!) but I would say it was well worth the dosh! Service was also excellent as all the staff greeted us with a smile and a bit of patter. Thanks to everyone involved and props to the chef for giving me a new food experience, cheers!!!

First, we had fish & chips multiple times during our trip and this was definitely the best! Fantastic Korean style fried chicken, oyster starter, whipped Brie starter - we definitely All in food was excellent and the menu interesting. Great veg options as well. The staff was excellent, friendly and chatted when we asked questions while also letting us enjoy our dinner. Highly recommend going, great views right on the water!

We booked a table on recommendation from family who had eaten here. We were given a lovely table in the window with views over the Forth and the beautiful railway bridge. We both opted for the Sunday roast from the specials board and were not disappointed. We also shared a portion of cauliflower cheese. Every mouthful was delicious. We decided to indulge in deserts and again were very impressed. All the staff were very polite and friendly. I would highly recommend this venue.

This place is fantastic!!! Take away the view, and it’s a fantastic pub/restaurant. The menu is to die for and the beers are incredible! Best place I’ve ever eaten! Thirty Knots, a new addition to the waterfront, offers a friendly and professional service with amazing food and a brilliant atmosphere. It is slightly more pub-style and less trendy than its counterpart, Scotts. The decor is lovely with lively yet not noisy ambiance and stunning views of the Firth of Forth at sunset. The staff are welcoming, friendly, and attentive while the food is absolutely delicious with good portion sizes.
We had our wedding reception in the private upstairs bar and dining area at Thirty Knots, and it was absolutely perfect. The venue was spacious for our group of 15 but the cosy and relaxed atmosphere meant we didn’t feel lost in it. The views from the room are spectacular and really added to the atmosphere. The food was delicious, and the canapés were a real highlight—generous in quantity and beautifully presented. All of our guests commented on how tasty everything was. Service throughout the evening was warm, attentive, and professional, which made the whole experience feel effortless from our side. The events coordinator was also a pleasure to deal with—responsive, clear in their communication, and made the planning process so smooth from start to finish. We also felt it was fantastic value for money given the quality of the venue, food, and service. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate—highly recommend!

Thirty Knots is an outstanding bar and restaurant that truly captures the charm of a Scottish coastal experience. From the moment you arrive, you're welcomed by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The views are absolutely breathtaking – whether you're seated indoors or out on the spacious terrace, you’re guaranteed stunning sights of the water and surrounding area. The setting combines modern comfort with a traditional Scottish feel, making it a perfect spot for both locals and visitors. You can enjoy a relaxed meal, grab a drink with friends, or simply take in the scenery. The Scottish atmosphere is authentic and welcoming, with friendly staff and a great selection of food and drinks. Located just a 15-minute walk from the train station and right next to several boat tour departures, it’s an ideal place to start or end your day of exploring. The location is not only scenic but also practical. Whether you're visiting for lunch, dinner, or a casual drink by the sea, Thirty Knots is a must-visit. I highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Edinburgh or the nearby coast – you won’t be disappointed!

I had food and drinks here on Thursday 14th and it was really good. The steak pie was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Drinks were brought to the table in a timely manner and we were left to enjoy our meals but checked in on just enough. Good quality food and drinks and food atmosphere with music on in the background. Hopefully be back soon.

We dropped in today for lunch, it's right off the Edinburgh Forth road bridge, a nice hidden gem. The restaurant is warm n welcoming, fantastic ambience says my teenage daughter, we had burgers, Mac n cheese, n veg curry. All very tasty. It was busy on this Friday lunchtime, so must be quite popular with the locals. I wud strongly recommend. They have a car park. Also stunning views to the river, ask for window seats!!!

Not one to usually order salads, but as this salad goes, I’d order it again. Really fresh, and stacked with flavour, I’d definitely get this again. The side portion of mac and cheese set it off nicely. The staff were super helpful, very attentive and genuine. Will go again for sure

My friend and I managed to get a table for 2 in the bar at the last minute on Sunday 19th Oct. Tammy sorted us out with a fabulous view, prompt and friendly service. Food was fabulous. But what impressed me the most was Tammy's skills at reading my friend and I so well. Utterly brilliant. Attentive, authentic and fun. If I were opening a place in the area, I would honestly poach her! Well done for making our visit memorable. Thank you.

Queensferry Museum, located on the High Street, is a hidden gem offering intriguing tales and artifacts. The oldest surviving house in South Queensferry, dating back to 1626, is also part of its historical charm. Visitors can learn about the dark history of the Black Castle and its association with witch trials and smuggling activities in the 18th century. The museum provides a beautifully curated collection that includes information about the construction of bridges and local wartime stories.
A small but interesting museum in Queensferry. Certainly worth a visit. It's also nice to see that in such a small museum they even managed to create a kids corner.

How many stars do you give a museum that's been closed the three times you visited, despite coming the hours that were listed here? The first time, I came during the hour or so it was closed in the afternoon (even though Google said it was open), so I updated the hours on Google. There was a sign out front that there was a wedding ceremony going on, so I didn't rattle the door or anything. I returned a couple hours later (after taking the train across the bridge and the bus back on the other bridge -- recommended!), and the celebrants and a photographer were outside, just getting ready to go for the wedding, so it should've been open before. I finally came back a week later, on my way to the airport, and it was still closed. I asked some folks hanging out on the steps who seemed to be local, and they weren't sure when it was open. I wish I'd just booked a sightseeing cruise, rather than coming by three times trying for the quirky local museum. It's a pleasant little town, for sure, but don't count on the museum.
Kevin L — Google review
A very lovely little museum which is a hidden treasure and well worth a visit. It is set out beautifully and all very local and interesting. There were lovely touches everywhere, for example there was a book of all the men that were local, about their lives before the war and during the war, they all died in the war. You picked out a packet of poppy seeds from a basket, each with a different name on the front, looked up the name that you had and read about the person, took the seeds home with you and planted them in remembrance for the person. Was such a lovely idea that I hadn't seen before and was a really nice, personal touch. Check opening times before you visit. It is 4 rooms managed by one person so they close for lunch and are only open certain days etc. There is no entry fee, so runs on donations. We easily spent a couple of hours there. It's hard to pick a favourite part but there is a really powerful telescope which is set up in a beautiful bay window with a stunning view. You can get a real close up of all three bridges, read the number plates of the cars, the sign posts, and see individual people. You can zoom in on the boats and the houses on the other side of the river. You can see door numbers, people walking their dogs and going about their business, when you can only see the houses in the distance with the naked eye. You can see the trains crossing the bridges, sea birds, the architecture of the bridges in such detail, more than I could have imagined. Sometimes the best things come in small packages and I believe that this is the case here :)

Dune Bakery is a delightful new addition to the Edinburgh food scene, renowned for its exquisite cakes and flaky laminated pastries that tend to fly off the shelves. If you're planning a visit, it's wise to arrive early—especially on weekends when they often sell out by early afternoon. Many visitors have made special trips just to experience Dune's offerings, and it’s easy to see why!
I finally visited Dune Bakery today after following them on social media for a while, and it was absolutely worth the wait! The pastries are delicious - fresh, flavourful, and worth every penny. I highly recommend trying the Elderflower & Gooseberry croissant - it has a unique flavour and very tasty. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and there’s a great variety of items to choose from. I’ll definitely be back! 🥐

Great selection of pastries and savoury bakes, as well as good bread and sandwiches. Coffees also excellent. Croissant easily as good as the best in Edinburgh(the ones with a 40 minute queue). Worth the journey and very scenic once you get here. Lots to enjoy.
Nizam H — Google review
Such a welcoming environment. Staff are lovely and helpful. Coffee was good! Discount if you bring your own cup and of course the pastries are delicious. My partner has tasted many pastries around Edinburgh and ranks this one has her top favourite.

Fabulous selection of pastries both savoury and especially sweet. Very busy but for a reason, so you may well have to queue but staff get through orders quickly and efficiently. The portion sizes are generous and the quality is outstanding; the four treats we purchased look like pieces of art and tasted just as good as it looks. Only wish there was one closer to home, but then I'd have to buy much bigger trousers!

Sooooooooooooo good! We drive here from Edinburgh to get such delicious coffee and amazing pastries! Not too sweet - what's the most important for us. High quality of chocolate (we tasted that in brownie, pain au chocolat). Great interior - it brings me memories. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🫠

Travelled 40 mins to visit this bakery! and have 0 regrets. There was a queue and quite rightly so, this moved quickly the view was nice to wait with. Pastries were phenomenal, quality was out of this world. Best I’ve had for sure. Coffees were lovely too. There’s such a variety of products, I tried new things I hadn’t heard of before. Each thing was worth every penny and will definitely be travelling for this again. Highly recommend. ☕️😄🥐

After a long cycling trip, a visit here was warranted. It was quite a busy day and had to queue for 30 mins therefore got a few pastries to make it worth my while. I tried their almond croissant, cinnamon bun and pain Au chocolat, all of which were really tasty but the cinnamon bun was standout! If im ever back in South Queensferry, I'd order the cinnamon bun again. Coffee was really tasty too and gave me the right amount of energy to help me cycle back home

Absolutely worth the hype!! Our first visit and just wow!! We split several pastries to try different ones and they were all incredible! I’m quite picky about cinnamon buns but this was perfect!! The weekend special was so creative and absolutely delicious. Love the flaky pastry and the coffees were really lovely too. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

Diner
Located in Port Edgar Marina, just under the road bridge in South Queensferry, Down the Hatch is a restaurant known for its generous portions and flavorful Canadian cuisine with a local twist. The establishment offers a unique dish called Poutine, which features hand-cut chips, cheese curd, and rich brown gravy. This spot is situated about seven miles west of Edinburgh's city center and is more convenient for Scotland's motorway system than for exploring tourist attractions in Edinburgh.
I would go as far to say this is the best breakfast I’ve had in a very long time. Especially after one of our recent visits to another well known place. This was leagues above. Service could have been a tiny bit better in attentiveness. Checking to make sure everything is alright, if we needed anything else but the staff were indeed all super friendly & knowledgeable. Not a huge fan of suggested service fees / tips (which you can remove). It happens many places and it’s an American (Canadian in this respect) system that shouldn’t be adopted. The products are priced accordingly inclusive of overheads. If I’d like to tip which I always do, I feel better about it being my own decision. However: Location speaks for itself. Down by the marina under the bridges. What more can you ask for. Would advise to book ahead on their website to ensure you get a table inside or out. Will for sure be returning! Well done 👏🏻

Down the Hatch is a quirky little gem that we visited as a family during a recent trip, and it absolutely delivered on flavour and atmosphere. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was relaxed and welcoming, with a cool, laid-back interior that set the tone for a fun dining experience. The staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. Now, let’s talk about the food—because that’s where Down the Hatch truly shines. Every dish we ordered was packed with flavour and beautifully presented. The standout, without question, was the pancakes. Fluffy, golden, and stacked high, they were hands-down the best pancakes we've ever had. Whether topped with fresh fruit, syrup, or something more indulgent, they were a showstopper. Even the kids couldn’t stop talking about them! The menu offered a great variety, catering to all tastes, and everything we tried—from burgers to loaded fries—was cooked to perfection. It’s clear the kitchen takes pride in what they serve. That said, it’s worth noting that Down the Hatch isn’t cheap. Prices are on the higher side, especially for a casual meal. While the quality justifies the cost to some extent, it’s definitely more of a treat than a regular stop. Still, for a memorable family outing with incredible food, it’s hard to beat.

This a great wee place tucked away in the back of South Queensferry. Friendly service from the start to finish only had a coffee and Poutine. The coffe was brilliant. But definitely be back now I know where it is. Good choice of seating inside and out. Could see it being busy at the weekend as it was busy midweek.

My family & I always love both DTH locations. This was our first time trying the breakfast skillets, and we loved them. I hsd the full Scottish, and my wife had the Canadian - it was Canada day and so it felt appropriate. The food was amazing, and the staff all friendly and all incredible with out 1 year old who was chatting away to them all. Based on this, would definitely go back for breakfast again.

We stoped by Down the Hatch for lunch after taking photos at the three bridges south Queensferry view point. The service was great and will definitely dine here again when I’m in Edinburgh

Just left this wonderful place after a delicious Sunday breakfast. Superb fast service. Truly magnificent menu selection. My Canadian Skillet was perfectly proportioned. My partner's Veggie Mexi Skillet was slightly too hot for her taste but "lovely" when the sauce was avoided. I think they use a local roast for their coffee and my Caramel Latte was divine. So much so I considered ordering a second to go. Very obviously a well recognised place to be with reservations expected and it being busy soon after opening. Dogs actively welcome. Loved every moment. Plan to visit as often as possible to and from the rugby matches on our way home to Aberdeen. Beats motorway Burger King 5000%!

Dalmeny is a charming village in South Queensferry, Scotland, just a short train ride away from Edinburgh. The highlight of the area is the breathtaking views of the iconic Forth Rail Bridge. Visitors can easily access the bridge by taking a train from Dalmeny Station to North Queensferry and back. The station itself provides convenient facilities such as a large car park and shelters in case of rain.
We caught a train to Edinburgh Waverley which took 20 minutes and cost just over £5.00 each for a return. We travelled between 8.00 am and 9.00 am on a weekday and had anticipated parking for the car might be an issue. However this was not the case and there was ample parking. We purchased tickets from the machine located on the northbound platform and walked over the footbridge to the southbound platform. There is a waiting room on the southbound platform. There is a small refreshment kiosk just as you leave the carpark to go up the ramp to the station. This is a better option to visit Edinburgh, rather than drive into the city and pay the costly fees to park your car.
Stuart B — Google review
I arrived here because I was booked for a trip on the Maid of the Forth to Inchcolm Island. You get a great view of the Forth Railway Bridge. There is shelter for a wetter day and there are notices for onward travel. The day I was here the ticket machine was not working. For me directions to the pier were good but the route is challenging. Steep steps, some broken as are the handrails. I wouldn't want to descend or ascend on a wet day.
Allan M — Google review
Amazing views of the Fourth Rail Bridge. First arrived thinking I would maybe not get parked but there is a VERY large car park at the station. I travelled here so that I could cross over the Fourth Rail Bridge. Wait wasn’t too long for a train and the journey over the bridge was a fantastic one. You can get off at North Queensferry and go back over back to Dalmeny. Trip is rather inexpensive so worth the money.

The last station before The Forth Bridge going north. It's small and irregularly staffed, but there are ticket machines available. You can get a view of The Forth Bridge from the platform if the weather is clear.

Decent station. There's a shelter incase it's raining but the station isn't manned. There's a disabled toilet hidden around the corner, which can be used with a RADAR key. It isn't really clean though.. 🤔 Again, like a lot of stations along the Fife Coastal route, the station is only wheelchair accessible from one platform, which is platform 1 for Dalmeny.

The World's Smallest Working Light Tower is a well preserved lighthouse in Fifes North Queensferry Harbour. The tower was built in 1817 with just 24 steps leading up to the lamp at the top of the tower. The tower has played an important role in Fifes maritime heritage and its worth visiting for its history and preservation of the details around the light house, anchor, and photos from old records.
Wonderful to see this unique Light Tower up close but sadly didn’t get to see inside as it was closed but used the QR code on museum to get an idea. Museum next to it. No parking but recommend you use Battery Road car park which also has toilet. Also worth exploring the surroundings for the wells, the bay, slip way and lovely historical buildings while you are in North Queens Ferry.

Brilliant wee lighthouse. We were surprised by the number of mementos in the little museum next to it. A fantastic spot for a bit of history with breathtaking views of the bridges, depending on the weather of course ;)

I seen the light tower as a potential place to visit yesterday and took the good weather today as the ideal opportunity to drive through. The light tower is in absolutely great condition with a small donation box as you walk in. Make sure and contribute to keep these little gems up and running. I have seen many Stevenson lighthouses but this was my first ever opportunity to get inside and have a hands on experience. The windows give you a good opportunity to get some framed shots of the surrounding scenery. It takes literally seconds to get to the top where there are information boards to tell you more about the structure and the location of the other Robert Stevenson structures. Great experience for adults and kids alike. Definitely will be back with my little ones soon.
