History Museums
CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center, founded by Holocaust survivor Eva Mozes Kor in 1995, offers a poignant look into the atrocities of the Holocaust. The museum was rebuilt after being firebombed in 2003 with widespread community support. It serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and educates visitors on the dangers of prejudice.
We were surpised by the small building. It was small but so powerful. I would recommend the tour before the virtual theater with Eva. We didn't know what to ask when we first arrived but after we would have liked to ask more but we were there right up to closing. The gentleman who joined us halfway through our self guided tour was a treasure of information. He was patient with our questions. We have added a tour of auschwitz and other holocaust areas to our bucket list.
Lagina K — Google review
This is one of the best museums I've ever been to. Everyone who works there is so friendly and informative. They have a bunch of memorabilia and stories of actual survivors and those who were able to escape before the war actually began. I especially loved the video and a chance to ask questions of Eva (the holocaust survivor who started the museum) even though she isn't here with us any more. It's not the biggest museum I've been to, however, it's impact is still impressive and reminds everyone that forgives is important.
Jessica B — Google review
Very informative. Our guide, Arnie, was amazing! He had so much information and additional facts. He answered every question we had and then some. It was easy to tell how much he admired Eva and other people who were part of her story. The portion where you get to “talk” to Eva was wonderful. After leaving the museum I felt like I really knew her. This is a wonderful tribute to a woman who did everything she could to bring the awful reality of the Holocaust to light, and sought to make a better life for herself and her family while honoring all of those who didn’t survive and those who suffered with the memories of their experience in the death camps.
Kyndal G — Google review
This is a really important place to visit, and it's done exceptionally well. I couldn't believe how cool the projection of Eva Mozes Kor was. There's a short video of her life, and then she appears, and visitors can ask her questions which her projection answers. The museum does a great job of explaining how fascism rises through the story of Eva and her sister Miriam.
Lucy F — Google review
is a deeply moving and educational place. More than a museum, it serves as a space for reflection and remembrance of the Holocaust and the lessons it leaves for humanity. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, with testimonies and materials that encourage empathy and highlight the importance of tolerance and peace. It is a must-visit for students, families, and anyone seeking to understand and honor human resilience in the face of adversity.
Andres G — Google review
Great museum! Loved the information that we got. Even though it was policed by them not by myself the parent what my child could learn. Docent was very informative and passionate. No where on any site did it say admission was only for an hour. Was disappointed as we drove from Indy and was rushed out before even finishing the second room. The lady at the front cut off the docent mid story and barely allowed to take a picture in the room due to time when we didn't necessarily opt for a guided tour but got one anyways from the docent (who again was lovely, we did enjoy her stories). Was not really left alone to peruse by ourselves again resulting in missed part of the museum by time end which was weird for a museum. Make sure you have plans on top of the museum, as I'm not sure I would have came for a rushed tour with a 3 hr round trip. Overall a lot was left to be desired by experience. Daughter left frustrated that they refused to answer questions and only stated that she was too young to understand concepts she had knowledge of prior to coming to the museum. Wish we could have walked around by ourselves so I could explain it myself to her. Would have more pictures to post if they let us take more.
Ashe C — Google review
Wonderful museum with a rich history, the founder of CANDLES was a holocaust survivor and one many Mendel twins at Auschwitz. The staff were attentive and generous with their knowledge. Exhibits full on information and interactive.
Sarah H — Google review
Did not know this existed; a great piece of WWII history about Eva Kor a surviving Dr. Mengele twin and her sister Miriam who survived his twin experiments and how they found other twin survivors. Also Eva’s husband Mickie Kor also was a survivor of the slave camps of Auschwitz. A great piece of history preserved with pictures and an intraactive film. Highly recommend going.

Museums
The Sheldon Swope Art Museum, housed in a stunning 1901 Italian Renaissance Revival building, is a free-admission museum dedicated to showcasing American art from the 19th and 20th centuries. Founded by Michael Sheldon Swope, a Civil War veteran and jeweler, the museum's focus on American regionalism is evident through its extensive collection featuring works by renowned artists such as Edward Hopper, Grant Wood, Charles Burchfield, and Thomas Hart Benton.
It was a lovely visit. Stopped in with my young kids who have an interest in art. We were able to enjoy each piece, and get some inspiration for our own projects.

This museum is updating a lot of areas. Nice setup to view your child's art and more.

Cute little stop on our drive through Indiana. They had a Renoir on loan and curated a little exhibition of Hoosier school artists to go along with it, but the permanent collection was really lovely. Free entry, docents were so friendly and helpful.
Molly S — Google review
Amazing find! I love that this museum has a wonderful display of Indiana artists. Definitely take an hour and stop in. Take a moment to enjoy art history and inspiration.
Lauren M — Google review
It’s free so the price is definitely right! This isn’t a huge collection, but for a small town it’s impressive. There’s some famous works here including a Andy Warhol and Edward Hopper. If you’re in town and an art fan it’s a no brainer to check this out. For most people I’d assume you’ll spend maybe a half an hour to an hour here.

Science museum
The Terre Haute Children's Museum is a long-standing attraction that offers a wide range of interactive exhibits focused on science and technology. The museum features a three-story climbing 'tree house,' an indoor ropes course, and numerous hands-on learning activities for kids of all ages. From the Toddler Zone and Water Table to the stuffed animal veterinary clinic and insect displays, there are engaging experiences tailored to different age groups.
Had my grandsons 1st birthday party here, great idea to occupy the older (6-12yr) kids to not get bored "watching a baby... do nothing" So I'm pleased to say party was a success. Although wish we'd been advised that tickets for specific activities should be purchased BEFORE a 10-15min wait in line, kids we're disappointed after finally making it to their turn then told they had to buy tickets and stand in line again. Did not have the time to do that

This is such a fun place to be! Great for kids of all ages. Our young children love it here and we can spend hours here without getting bored!!
Brandon F — Google review
Great for the littles. Lots to do and see. Reasonably priced.
Dawn Q — Google review
Although it is much smaller than our museum in Indianapolis, we LOVED the interactive parts! Our 3.5 year old kiddo had so much fun. We believe the highlights of the museum for him were: the play kitchen/grocery floor, the third floor with the train tables (we all loved the paper airplane launcher), and climbing the jungle gym that expanded between the three floors. I personally loved the giant bubble. I would recommend the museum for a day trip, and on the weekend if you have a busy kiddo that likes interactive activities. Parking is great on weekends, as it is free. During the week; you’ll have to park in a garage, as Terre Haute is notorious for being meter maids. We went today (Saturday) and it wasn’t that busy.
Erika R — Google review
Our kids enjoy every time we visit here. The ropes course is perfect for our 5 year old. Kids are entertained for several hours.
Bryant S — Google review
We love the Children’s Museum! We purchased the family membership that includes the ropes course. It was very affordable for lots of fun for the year! We went today and we want to give a shout out to Megan for making today so fun! She is so great with the kids!!! 😁
Katie S — Google review
It’s smaller than Indianapolis Children’s Museum, but it had plenty of activities for kids to do. Fun for a weekend outing with the kids.
W N — Google review
Went with my 7 year old and my baby. It was okay. There are 3 floors. There were a few things that did not work or that did not work right. Things stopped working while we were there and had to be fixed. They have a ropes course it was $7 if the child is under 48" then they have to go with some one over 18 but if the child is over 48" then they can go by them self. If the child is under 42" they can not go at all. I would like to see it worked on so the interactions work better next time.

The Eugene V. Debs Museum is a significant local landmark that showcases the life of a prominent union leader and politician. The museum offers visitors an opportunity to learn about Debs' contributions to the labor movement, including his role in establishing Labor Day as a federal holiday. The tour guides are knowledgeable and passionate, providing visitors with an engaging experience. While ongoing restoration work currently limits access to the second floor, this only adds excitement for future visits once completed.
Had a great tour by Allison even though we got there late in the afternoon. The house is beautifully restored. A place of pilgrimage for those committed to ensuring working people get a fair share of our nation's economy.
Kitty D — Google review
Must visit if you are in Indiana! Allison the tour guide is passionate & professional. I requested a shorter tour because I had to be somewhere after, but the tour was so entertaining that I stayed for an hour. No matter your politics, you will leave this tour inspired. For history buffs, view Debs artifacts ranging from presidential campaign materials to craftwork made by fellow prisoners from the labor leader’s Atlanta imprisonment. For historic home fans, jump back in time to 19th century Indiana with many original house features. Stunning detail on the full floor mural of Debs’s life & influence on the American labor movement. Allison paints a picture as engaging as the mural itself. Small gift shop with rare Debs souvenirs (t-shirts, posters, books) that accepts credit card. Can’t say enough about this site. So glad I visited. Made me proud that the Midwest is associated with the pantheon of American heroes from Abraham Lincoln to Eugene V. Debs.
Connor S — Google review
Allison is an amazing tour guide! I had a great time learning about everything that is on display here. Lots of original furniture, art dedicated to Debs, and photographs that tell Debs' story as well as his family's and others that influenced Debs. Allison's expressive story telling had me captivated onto every word. The attic mural was my favorite part. I highly recommend a visit here, and look forward to coming back here again.
Chris I — Google review
Allison led our graduate student group through a tour of the house and it was INCREDIBLE! There is so much to learn about Debs, unions, and American history in general! Allison’s passionate and knowledge made the experience especially enriching and impactful for our students. Highly recommend this amazing (and free) tour experience.
Mary M — Google review
What a great museum dedicated to the life of a fascinating Hoosier. Debs' life should be taught in history. He did so much for lower and middle class workers, including the establishment of Labor Day as a federal holiday. Our tour guide was fabulous--enthusiastic and clearly very knowledgeable about the subject. They're in the middle of some restoration work, so the second floor is a work in progress at the moment. I can't wait to go back and see it after the work is finished!
Stephanie C — Google review
Great museum with a lot of history. The tour guide was amazing. She also mentioned anyone that would like a virtual tour she does zoom tours.
Nomad T — Google review
This museum is an Indiana treasure. There are lots of artifacts to see and enjoy. When I visited I was lucky enough to have Allison Duerk as my guide. She is a fountain of knowledge of the man and the museum. I plan to visit again to buy a souvenir baseball hat. They don't have baseball hats now but plan to have them soon. I collect baseball hats when I travel.
Uncle L — Google review
I got a great tour from a very passionate and well-informed docent (I believe her name was Allison). More about the history of the man rather than the history of the house, it is free and worthwhile to see. The Eugene Debs was a prominent Socialist and that may bother some people as the historical narrative can border on proselytizing, but would you really rather get a tour from someone who didn't care about the man? The passion made the tour great. I recommend it. Tours can be short or up to 90 minutes. I got the full tour and am better off for it.

Dobbs Park Nature Center, named after John G. Dobbs, is a 105-acre farm turned nature preserve and educational center established in 1977. It offers various programs to educate visitors about the local flora and fauna of Indiana. The park features hiking and mountain bike paths, as well as a Native American museum and a bird observatory at the Nature Center. Families with kids can enjoy learning about nature while walking the trails and visiting the museums.
Beautiful walking trails that are not too difficult. Nice clean bathrooms in the nature center. The fall color here is amazing.
David A — Google review
I Love the trails, they offer different distance 2,3 or 5 miles. It's quiet and quaint. There's a shaded playground for kids. Several pavilions and picnic tables. Benches around the small pond.
Mary D — Google review
This was the first time I spent any quality time in the trails at Dobbs Park. What FUN! I took a small group of students with special needs and we wandered the footpath together. None of us truly knew where we were, but we had fun walking the trails and making guesses about which way to go. Thankfully, we never came around the same way twice, so that means we didn't double back in the same part of the trail! It was GREAT fun!!
Marcia O — Google review
We had a great time exploring the nature center. It's a small place, but fun and informative for the whole family. Then we went out into the trails. It was beautiful.
Nickey — Google review
I loved this place. The Nature Center and Native American Museum are both fantastic institutions of learning and nature, with plenty to offer those looking to discover the wonder in their community and even their own backyards. If you're looking for some peace and quiet, the bird observatory in the Nature Center is a fabulous place to observe nature at it's most beautiful. Becky was a delight to converse with, and Phoebe the Cat is so friendly and cute. I'd rate an extra 5 stars if I could.
Desmond O — Google review
I’m torn. I love Dobbs Park and most of the trails are great, if not short. However, there are a couple of trails that are clearly defined and feel like it’s off trail. Also, it’s clear that Dobbs is low on the order of importance to the parks department as there are still trees down blocking a trail. From last spring. Picture is tree down. But the other side of the park is wonderful. It really is my favorite local hiking park.
Roy H — Google review
Perfect place to take your family! We went fishing and played on the playground! We did not take advantage of the museum, but next time it's in the plan! We love this park.
Becca A — Google review
I wanted to go on a nice autumn walk with my dog and wow! It was beautiful from the trails to the leaves. Great place to take a picnic lunch, there are plenty of tables everywhere near the entrance so you won't have to walk far to eat. The nature center has some native species to Indiana including spiny soft shell turtles which I have never seen in person before. They also have birdwatching areas indoors with books and guides of what birds you are seeing. I saw a kids play ground which looked like a great place for the kiddos to burn off some steam before or after lunch. All in all great place to check out!

The architecture beauty and the great history of this theater is phenomenal!!! One of the most beautiful and architecturally impressive in the country. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. The theater opened in January 28, 1922. It would make a nice venue for weddings or parties of all kinds. If passing through Terre Haute don't miss this incredible photo opportunity of this historic building.

There’s seems to be very few buildings left from the earlier years The Indiana Theatre is a historic theater in Terre Haute, Indiana. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 13, 1997 and is located in the Wabash Avenue-East Historic District. It opened on January 28, 1922. The theatre was built by Terre Haute resident T. W. Barhydt and was designed by John Eberson. Eberson, who later developed the atmospheric theater style of movie palace, first experimented with atmospheric design elements at the theatre. Eberson stated, "Into this Indiana Theatre I have put my very best efforts and endeavors in the art of designing a modern theatre such as I have often pictured as what I would do were I given a free hand. From photos looks an interesting building to go inside and enjoy for any event.

Seating is not very nice - quite old. Little things are inconvenient- like: why do they have 10 front doors and, literally, only one is unlocked? No sign. Why not sell tickets from the ticket booth instead of a card table? Everything is kind of run down - but the dance recital we went to was $25 a ticket. That might not be their fault. Lighting was bad - dancers in the back row were in shadow. Sound was OK. Parking is street or in the garage down the block.

A very nice place for a wedding. Perfect location for seating while the bride and groom were elevated on the steps so the entire crowd could see the ceremony. The bartenders were polite, friendly, quick service, and allowed the crowd to flow. Great Job! Book your next event at the Indiana Theater. I have lots of kid memories watching movies in this place.
Rick W — Google review
Wow, beautiful theater! Even upon walking up you can see it's beautiful styling in the marble and ticket window. Just inside is an amazing, beautiful dome entry foyer. Concessions sold at a folding table (weird). Once inside it is interesting. There's a lower terrace level with tables for groups. And for certain events bar service. Then there are seats low & close to the screen in what is probably an orchestra pit. Going up from there, are angled seating. This place was doing stadium seating, since before stadium seating was cool. Not perfectly comfortable seats or cup holders, but good views and a truly beautiful theater as a whole. Very enjoyable, bordering on elegant. Worth checking out pretty much anything!

I was very disappointed. I was told not all the food was ready. So I ordered a pizza paid $18 for a frozen pizza that was so burnt we couldn't even eat it we had a piece the sauce for the Bosco sticks had no flavor. I will not be returning. The bartender did not seem to like his job very short and rude. Do better be better.

Auto Race Tracks
The Terre Haute Action Track is a popular half-mile dirt track located at the Wabash Valley fairgrounds. This classic and historic venue hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including silver crown, sprint car, and midget car races organized by the Automobile Club. It is known for its open parking, easy access, and ample food and drink options in the midway area.
One of the few old school classic dirt tracks left in the nation. Parking is open and easy to get in and out of. The midway offered plenty of choices of food and drinks. The main stands are covered and provided shade but if you sit towards turn 1 you will be looking at the sun as it sits over turn 3. You can tell it’s an old track but don’t let that fool you! The Action Track lives up to its name!
Nick A — Google review
The Terre Haute Action track is kind of a neat half mile track with a lot of history but be prepared it is always very dusty here. Much of the facility is run down and in need of some major tlc. The only thing impressive about the food is the price. And for that you'll basically get some frozen food heated up in a microwave. It's a track you would love to support but somehow it always seems difficult.
M M — Google review
This track seems to have an odd reputation, I've made the trip 3 times, 1 of the 3 was rained out despite not having any rain in the area in over 24 hours before the start of the event 💁, the other two times put on phenomenal shows. All three times there seemed to be an overall negative feel from the staff and spectators, with staff at two of the shows expressing fristrations with the track. Overall 15 bucks for infield tickets, worth the gamble to see some racing from a unique infield experience
G S — Google review
Overall an average experience. The venue has plenty of parking and is easily accessible. However it is need of an update. There was only one food stand with two people serving, attempting to accomodate a full venue. The line was no less than 15-20 min all night. The viewing is average from the grandstand and the dust further impedes the view of sections of the track. Dust can be accepted, it is a dirt track. However dust that is that thick it limits your view of half of the track cannot.
Cameron E — Google review
Great venue to enjoy the engine noise, smell of fuel, and intense competition between all levels of competitors. And, changes in Indy venues are providing Terre Haute Action Track more racing action, because of those changes. We all need to go and support our local track.

First time I was there. An amazing experience at a historical track. Was there for USAC sprintweek,I stood in the infield at turn one for hotlaps. Haven't been that excited in a long time! Worth the 700 mile drive from Pennsylvania! Look forward to going back!

The Best! One of the oldest and yet well maintained Parks in Terre Haute. Obviously due to the courage and devotion of the groundskeeper. These good people need raises. We rented the pavillion. This was a quaint little place to host a baby shower. It was clean, had a kitchenette and smart outlets that were not low to the ground all around the building. We had around 25 people in there. It would not be a great place for any more than that. Chairs and tables were there. Also a small restroom, no changing table. There is no microwave. It worked out perfect for our baby shower. Nothing is allowed on the walls or windows. We built quick little back drops. The lighting is very beautiful. There are three big glass windows that allow lots of natural light. There are also three doors to get into building. The north door is great, its directly facing the play ground equipment. Great idea for kids party so they can run to and from.

Indiana State University Memorial Stadium, constructed in 1924, serves as the home field for the Indiana State Sycamores collegiate football team. The original horseshoe-shaped grandstand could accommodate 16,000 spectators and hosted various sports events such as high school football, baseball games, and soccer matches. Additionally, it was a venue for annual Fourth of July celebrations. The stadium features a graceful arch at its entrance built to honor those who served during World War I.
Beautiful walk around the stadium especially if you like trees! They have over 100 trees native to Indiana on the walk with a map showing you were each is!

Kai W — Google review
Really enjoyed my time there the football game was great ,
Andrew D — Google review
The stadium is dated. Parking is all in a field with confusing access points. It's all general admission bleacher seating on just one side of the field. The soccer team shares the field with the football team creating distracting lines. The concession options were solid though! The bucket of nachos was better than most stadium nachos I've gotten. And all the low points mentioned above do create a sort of Midwest FCS charm if I'm looking for a reason to be nice. Also, Sycamore fans were pretty nice despite solid attendance from the away fans.

The Native American Museum, located in Dobbs Memorial Park, is a unique ethnographic museum that showcases the history and culture of the native peoples in the area. Operated by a city parks department, it features exhibits on Indiana housing, heirloom gardens, and educational plaques. The museum offers a respectful and informative experience with labeled artifacts and plenty of information for both children and adults. Additionally, visitors can explore the beautiful park trails and enjoy a nature preserve with information about local fauna nearby.
My wife and I went here and loved this place. It isn't big or super exciting like the children's museum in Indy, but it is small, respectful, and has great information and artifacts. There is also a small building beside it that is a nature preserve with different information about local fauna. Finally, the park itself and trails are just gorgeous. I highly recommend taking a picnic and spending the morning on the trails followed by a walk through the museum.

So much information to be learned at this place. I hope to see it stay here for a while! They have free weekend activities and other community events. I love learning about native American culture and history, so it was a really cool place to visit. This place has gone down hill. It's a joke, they either need to replace the lady "in charge" or just needs demolished to save tax dollars. It is sad. I grew up here and my older kids got to have some enjoyment before she destroyed the place. My younger kids, sadly, will never get to experience the enjoyment this park has given to so many generations all because of incompetence 😢 (she managed to lose most her staff, including volunteers, during the holidays)

Literally the greatest!! We had 2 under 2 and we are on an extremely long road trip 12 hours and for $3.50 they can play on this structure! Seriously we needed to get their zoomies out! My son's birthday and this was his choice. A lot of fun riding the go carts and bumper cars. Prices are very affordable, and food not outrageous prices. We had a great family game of mini golf which was very fun. Staff was friendly and attentive. I will add that their is some wear in the place that could be spruced up a bit. Like the carpet on mini golf course, and some others. (Reflecting the 4 stars) I would highly recommend this place for a fun time!

5 star vist this place reminds of me a place in my home state Arkansas. Really brought back my childhood memories I’m able to share with my children this go kart track is perfect. For Kids The bumper cars are right there too we also used the batting cages what an awesome place. The mini golf stayed busy We will go back and I do recommend. For Kids 5 + we didn’t spend much time inside so I’m sure younger Kids have stuff to do big play place right as you walk in and look like big game room but go kart shed is cool. Props To the owner and his crew doing a good Job. The employees were great the girls had the pitching machines working everything worked and was great. Goo spend some money at this place it’s cool take ur kids & have fun. It’s afford and can spend all day here.
William S — Google review
For what it is, they actually do a good job. Yes, it's cramped and noisy and messy and the food is questionable. But the kids love it and we all end up at these places. Bogey's actually does a lot of things better than most. The Playland is sturdy it safe and the kids ran and bounced for hours, plus I could see them from most parts of the building. The go-karts were very fun and quite affordable at $15 for 2 hours unlimited. The soft pretzels were good. The noisy video games were well away from the dining area. The staff were actually all attentive, fast, and friendly, which is rare at these places. But, still no surprise that the pizza was horrible because we all end up buying it anyway. So, yes, it's a tourist trap and a rite of passage for kid birthday parties... But you could do MUCH worse than Bogey's.
Troy M — Google review
The place was really fun especially the go-karts if you have at least four or five people to race with it's definitely fun and the putt-putt golf. But the prices are kind of high but I also understand I recommend going

Great local spot. Focus on the burgers here. If you’re looking for a good burger and some drinks, this is for you. Other food is good too. Try a tweety burger and you’ll be fine. Place is clean. Service is quick. They know how to run a busy bar here.
Morgan C — Google review
Charlie’s is good at being what it is- a fun, lively place to get drinks and food. Both are solid, and have some great options. Apps and burgers, Tots and fries are all good, and I rarely make it past them to other options. Our fav new app is fried banana pepper rings. It’s a casual place that can accommodate groups of 10+ easily which makes it a good spot to gather with friends. Can be a bit loud, and not terribly fast with service, though the staff is hard working. Often busy! Love the outdoor space in good weather, and both in and out have lots of space. If you want a more refined menu and atmosphere try the owner’s other locations-The Terminal and Ladybird Cafe. Each fills its own niche.

Very nice clean friendly atmosphere. One nice thing I liked about Charlie’s is the diverse menu. I had ordered the buffalo wings (bone in) and they were delicious. Truth be told I'm a bit too old for this place. My kids love it though. It is loud. Even without the live music one has to shout across the table. Burgers are good. Beer choice is broad, but not to my taste. Pepsi products only.

I was surprised to find lots of name brand stores here and very few empty storefronts. I could have probably counted on 1 hand how many empty stores there were, otherwise there's a lot happening at this mall! From Ulta to Finishline to American Eagle to Shoe Dept, there's a little bit of everything here. The food court is small but there's 2 tenants there with a couple others scattered around the mall itself. Good job Terre Haute for keeping this mall going in this day and age of online shopping. Pictured are most of the stores, but Google only allows 50 photos so not all are pictured.
Alex B — Google review
The mall itself is in good condition but missing the great anchor stores of years past typical of so many other cities. Penny’s is clean and fairly well stocked. Hope it survives for the sake of the smaller stores and employees. Wasn’t busy when we were there and plenty of parking 😊.

The guy with all the pinballs is destroying The Haute center. Turning the whole thing into a giant arcade. There's no money catering to kids they ain't got the money need to consult me I have some ideas that would make it a nice place to go again using golf carts that are electric that look like old timey model t cars and they just putt along at about a half mile an hour and have a travel through ethnic areas like one area would be Mexico another area be the far East another area would be Switzerland so on and so forth. The slow golf carts would be appealing to old people that don't get around very well. Access old people are the ones that got all the money all kids have quarters. Nobody has any vision there, all the shops that are left can see the writing on the wall. The the demise and death of the hult center is imminent

The Vigo County Courthouse, located in Terre Haute, Indiana, serves as the government seat for Vigo County. Construction of this impressive architectural gem began in 1818 and was completed in 1888. The building's French Neo-Baroque design is a sight to behold, with its towering dome reaching a height of 284 feet. Made from limestone quarried in Indiana, the courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
I do enjoy seeing the buildings that were built to be used outstanding piece of architecture built in First erected in 1884, this building has been used as a courthouse or government building for many years. The limestone was brought in from Indiana quarries. It’s was worth the visit inside is really nice as well.

I love this building. We just don't do it this way anymore. Stunning building that sits up high. I go just to look at the architecture

Architecturally impressive county courthouse building in downtown Terre Haute, Indiana. The building took four years to build, be completed in 1888. The dome reaches a height of 284 feet and there are some great statuary around the building. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

To start, I am not in any legal trouble. In which i had a valid question regarding my privacy and safety associated with a case. I spoke to SHELBY in division 4 and she was extremely rude. The way she spoke to me was condescending. She kept saying “that’s just how we do things around here”. As someone who respects people who do their jobs, I understand some people may not have all the questions. I get it. I am an understanding person. I approached it with respect and what I got in return was sad. I truly hope she does not treat her coworkers this way. Her demeanor was lazy and rude. No one with those traits should be working in a court system. Is there not any training on how to be professional when talking to people with questions? If so, there should be training on how to speak to people with manors. Just because you are having a bad day, don’t take it out on others. That’s your job, not ours. We didn’t do anything to you.

Wow what a courthouse. The craftsmanship on the exterior is amazing.

Beautiful building in the heart of terre haute. The tall dome sticks out for miles.

Dark like a dungeon in here. Kinda creepy, i came in alone and way early so it was empty. Its very nicely done in here make a good horror story scene.

To the girls in the Division 4 Clerks Office. I’m sorry you hate your jobs. You work for the citizens of this county. Don’t assume that everyone coming into your office is there for petty reasons. Some of us are dealing with more than you could possibly imagine. I simply asked for paperwork because that’s what I was told. I didn’t need the attitude. All three of you were extremely rude and condescending like I had just ruined your entire morning for asking for the paperwork I needed.

Love hanging out at Water Tower Estates Winery! Had the Pina Colada Slushy, it was like drinking the beach in a wine glass. The Tropical Delight is a very refreshing peach flavor, and the vendors set up today were fabulous.

I came up from St. Louis for the weekend and wanted to stop by as I saw good reviews online. Nice setup and the Mix up wines were amazing. The weekend staff was top notch even with a bridal shower going on upstairs and people trying to view the event space, the host managed to take care of everyone. I did the wine tasting and it was very good. I will definitely be back for sure! Also purchase two tshirts and would like to get a sweatshirt but they were all out. WaterTower is definitely a stop you'll want to make!

I was a little leary to take this tour. I was afraid it would be a stuffy don't touch anything, don't take pictures kind of place. I was delighted to be welcomed by down to earth friendly people. Jerry Burns gave us our tour and he was extremely knowledgeable and amusing. When I asked if I could take pictures he said absolutely. The building is beautifully kept. The furnishings are gorgeous. Vendors' Village of Terre Haute is a family-owned indoor flea market that has been in operation since 2010. The market offers a wide variety of items including antiques, collectibles, household goods, and more. Visitors can expect to find an extensive selection of products to browse through, from baseball cards and braided rugs to paintings and furniture. The spacious layout allows for easy navigation through the booths, where friendly staff members are on hand to assist shoppers.
This place is massive!! A few of the booths are quite unimpressive but if you keep going you’re bound to find something amazing. This place goes on and on. It took us almost 4 hours to get through everything and still didn’t feel like we seen everything. Most of the booths are easy to scan through, they’re not jammed packed. There’s definitely a variety here. Something for everyone! Prices seemed fair in most of the booths, also a little overpriced in others. The staff were very friendly and attentive. They wrapped our purchases very well. The place is handicapped accessible. It was a lot of walking, but worth the stop!
Tabbii L — Google review
Love the store, However If you’re buying vintage wax packs of sports cards be careful with vendor 2092’s packs. They aren’t advertised as sealed but the two 1992 Topps baseball packs I bought had been not even resealed per se. Just had been opened and put back in the pack.

That's the only place that mall has going for them. That mall is pathetic. My daughters used to work at cinnabons when they were teenagers that mall was great It was crowded and they had everything. And then they lost all their anchor stores. It breaks my heart to see it turn into nothing but a ghost town. Vendors Village is nothing but a huge flea market. Then they changed the name of the mall to Haute City, that made it worse!Very sad place to visit
Belinda T — Google review
My children were told that since they were not 18 years of older they were unable to shop alone...the rule was not posted anywhere and when asked to provide the policy, the shift manager just said that "that's just what I was told". Not acceptable. If teens are allowed in the mall not 18, they should be able to shop.
Lena A — Google review
Vendors Village in Terre Haute is a very unique place. It is very large with many booths and an aisle with items behind locked glass. Some of the booths are so tightly packed with items there is no space to walk around and is not wheelchair accessible to see everything in each booth. The aisles are wheelchair accessible. There is a very wide variety of items including Porch Geese & other statues- teddy bears- coke cola booth- old toys- Christmas decor, Halloween decor- candy- quilts- adorable plant pots- and sooooo much more! The prices are not bad.
Jen S — Google review
I'm in here all the time. You always find great items for a great price. I love getting jewelry from here for my grandkids. There is a booth that sells kids jewelry between 1 and 5 bucks.
Melissa D — Google review
OMG! We had two hours before they closed and I only got down 1 aisle and my hubby too. We split up thinking it be easier to find something for my son for his birthday. Found it and so much more. They have other locations that I am dying to visit and see if they come close to this one.

Churches & Cathedrals
St. Benedict Catholic Church has a rich history, dating back to its establishment in 1864 by German immigrants after the Civil War. Initially dedicated to St. Benedict and served by Benedictine priests, it later came under the care of Franciscans in 1872. The church underwent a significant transformation, moving to a larger building designed in Romanesque style by architect Adolph Druiding.
This is a beautiful cathedral with ornate stained glass embellishments and statues located in downtown Terre Haute. It is an easy to find location if you're traveling. We visited here for Sunday Mass. The Mass was about an hour and very good. I would highly recommend visiting here.
Melody M — Google review
Beautiful church. Excellent downtown location, walkable from many hotels for travelers. Great parking lot across the street.
MCM — Google review
This is the largest and most ornate Catholic Church in Terre Haute. It has beautiful stained glass and statuary. They have a good schedule for daily Mass though the times are a bit inconvenient for working people. After having not been here for years, I attended a daily Mass at 12:05pm on a Monday. I didn’t realize it until part way through the liturgy, but the tabernacle is moved way off to the right side of the church, which absolutely broke my heart! Our Lord is truly and substantially present in the Eucharist and He should never be cast off to the side, especially in His house. Please consider moving the tabernacle back to the center of the church on the beautiful high altar. The King of Kings deserves the central place of honor.
Sam C — Google review
Beautiful, Historic, but most importantly. Prayerful!
Matthew R — Google review
First time visitor. After Mass my sister walked up to introduce herself to the Priest. He very slowly looked her up and down (she was wearing jeans and a nice plaid shirt - clean and modest), gave a disgusted look, and turned away. Needless to say, neither of us will EVER go back there.

If you're planning a trip to Terre Haute, IN, make sure to include the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course on your itinerary. This expansive sports complex is dedicated to cross country running and offers an engaging experience for both participants and spectators alike. The course is known for its championship quality, making it a popular venue for top-level meets that attract numerous runners.
A championship quality course! People complain about spectating (IMHO it is great and you get lots of distance views from one spot due to the valley in the middle of it so being binoculars if you aren’t willing to run to see you runners) and yes the parking lots aren’t super close (though the are still onsite) so you are going to have to walk. It can get congested coming in since they use one entrance. They only hold top level meets which brings lots of runners. Maybe stay home if you prefer XC dual meets where you can park right next to the baseball field that your small school runner has to run around. Runners loves this course and the best thrive here!!
Devon B — Google review
Great course... Parking was a breeze compared to last year. They have a concession stand and at least for the middle school championships they'll have three or four vendors. There isn't much shade, so make sure you're prepared.
Josh Z — Google review
Worst xc meet location ever. It took an hour to drive .9 miles and park our car at the meet. It was bad to the point that people were parking their cars and leaving them or getting out of the cars and running to try ro make the race. This was poorly organized and I would not recommend attending an event here. Even though we arrived early, we missed my nieces meet
Jessica S — Google review
Waited 40 minutes to get in there, missed one of the races I was wanting to see, and it was unorganized. If you are going to host a large event, you need to find a better way to do it.

The menu includes burgers, sandwiches, pizza, and salads along with a full bar featuring daily drink specials and over 100 different beers to choose from.

Great atmosphere, ok food, but pricey for what you get. It was really fun to check out Moggers! They have a beautiful building and interesting history. It was a fun visit, but I’m not sure we’ll be back. Prices are a bit higher than most places which would be fine if the quantity or quality matched.

Great good and atmosphere. This place is in a very old building with many unique qualities. You kind of get a sense that the place is haunted but it's really nice. Lots of different beers on tap and prices were reasonable. Our server was very nice and accommodating.
Michael S — Google review
Place is delicious, environment is relaxing, staff is friendly. Gotta try the brisket Mac N cheese 👉 it is so good. It is on the pricy side, yet so worth it. I highly recommend this place to everyone. And the whole block had old Terre Haute Brewing Company buildings that gave the whole area a unique look and feel to it.
Richard W — Google review
We decided to try the place and glad we did. Neat old building with neat history. The interior is vintage and classic. The stained glass on ceiling is beautiful! The bathroom smelled clean and was dazzled all up. You should definitely take a look before leaving. Our waiter made good recommendations on beer and food. The pretzel bites were good and went well with the Weihenstephaner beer. The chili was so delicious. (a little cold) It does have beans - which is fine with me! We also ordered the Rueben which needs help. It came out cold, dry, and lacking the normal portions of a reuben sandwich. They are usually bigger and stacked sandwiches. It tasted good just lacked in size and ingredients. Lastly, we order the Apple crisp for dessert. Huge portion! It was fabulous and was actually crisp! This thing is delicious! Cinnamon ice cream was a perfect match for the Apple crisp! Thanks to Darren for great service and recommendations. One last thing: You should go explore the basement with an underground tunnel used during Prohibition! A Must See!
Amanda L — Google review
Side salad and a sandwich the size of my pinky for $14..... NO, Italian beef musky weird taste didn't eat... Restaurants had a moldy smell when you walk in... This place is doing the locals a disservice with high prices? $17 for a gyro... The service was good.

This place was amazing! The service was caring, incredibly fast, and the food was delectable!
Skylar L — Google review
We were in Terre Haute recently and my parents suggested we try this place out due to its history and there was a bit of hype behind it. We managed to visit recently. We came on a Monday at around 3 PM and they weren’t busy at all and there was pretty much no one there (aside from 2 people at the bar). Our waitress was friendly. I started out with the potato skins as an appetizer. Those were amazing! Some of the best ones I’ve ever had! Super crispy and seasoned nicely. As my entree, I got the tenderloin with fries. Overall, it wasn’t that great. It had ZERO seasoning and was very bland. The fries were decent. Overall, not a bad bar! If I’m back in Terre Haute, I’ll probably stop here again. They got a massive menu to try so I have other options.

Our server (Jordan E.) did an amazing job making sure we had everything we needed at all times. He even brought plates and a knife to cut my fiends birthday cake. The food was amazing. I ordered the seafood alfredo which was one of their specials that week. When they sat my plate in front of me I couldn't believe how good it looked. It was amazing with lot of seafood.

Love this place, this is only the 2nd time we’ve been, but the food is delicious, and the waitstaff is phenomenal! Whole place is in great shape and clean, but always a win for me when the bathroom is clean in a restaurant! Definitely worth 5 starts across the board!

This is the place to be if you are hungry. The portion size of the food is generous. Wine was a bit overpriced so we opted out and got beer instead, which was not from tap. Extensive menu. Chicken marsala came with 2 pieces of chicken drenched in a delicious mushroom sauce. Veal parmasan came with one nicely breaded veal and a large portions of spagetti in tomato sauce. Decor was a bit strange in the terrace area. Definitely worth a stop if in the area.

The Clabber Girl Bake Shop Cafe is a Terre Haute institution and the headquarters of Hulman & Co., known for producing Clabber Girl Baking Soda. Visitors can enjoy locally roasted Rex Coffee at the cafe after touring the museum. The cafe also serves delicious food, including Mediterranean flatbread and pesto sandwiches.
Update: Getting frustrated with the small portion sizes for the amount. Got the Mediterranean flat bread and it was on a 6 in round pita for $6.50. I understand it's quality ingredients but it doesn't make me want to eat lunch here. Best cookies in town straight from the land of the world's best baking powder. Their lunch menu is very good, I love the pesto sandwich. Great atmosphere inside, vintage and historic but modern. Cool displays of coffee machines and old elevators inside. Their Bakery is my favorite part, everything is amazing. You have to try the cookies, and little cakes. The first Friday of every month, they have a Chef's Night. It's a pop-up kitchen that has different category of food each time. I look forward to this the first of every month.

A gem of history and heritage, along with delicious food! I’ve had lunch at Clabber Girl many times, always a great experience. Recently I had the chance to try their breakfast and it was even better than I expected. I ordered a veggie omelet made with egg whites, and I had only just sat down with my coffee before my breakfast was on my table. The omelet was heaped with fresh spinach and tomatoes. The biscuit was so soft, buttery and warm, probably fresh from the oven. Every meal tastes authentically scratch-made, like it’s straight from grandma’s kitchen. Having all the black-and-white photos and historic artifacts in the dining rooms and the museum really completes the feeling that you’ve stepped back a century in time. Really well done!

Cool story and history of family and business. Museum was well done and a nice detour before or after a bite to eat. Had the Turkey Avacado sandwich and was fresh, nothing fancy, yet good...probably add some side chips to make the value better.

The environment is very nice and expected a lot. However, ordered a crispy chicken sandwich and it is processed chicken. Tasted like a Mcchicken sandwich from McDonald’s at seven times the price (7.25 vs. a dollar), and the sandwich came with no sides. My wife left hungry. The soup I had was very good though.

My burger was good, exactly what I had been craving, and the broccoli as a side was cooked properly. My server was friendly and efficient, my food came out quickly but not too quickly. My server brought out sweet rolls after my meal, I think those are supposed to be brought out first? (I could be very wrong.)

Great American food selection with fairly large portions. The tables are very close and that makes the dining feel crowded. No privacy; you can hear everyone's conversations and vice versa. The wait staff are always bustling, but only visited once right after they dropped off the food. You can use the kiosk at your table to ring for service, but it didn't help in our visit. After waiting for nearly 10 minutes, we checked ourselves out via the kiosk. As we were gathering our things to leave, our waitstaff arrived with our check!

“I had a wonderful experience at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen. The food came out fresh, hot, and full of flavor. The portions were generous, especially for the price. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we always had what we needed. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable, perfect for a family dinner. I’ll definitely be coming back!”

14 oz ribeye was rare instead of medium. The server never came back so we could tell her about the steak so he just ate it. I had chicken fried chicken mashed potatoes and corn. The gravy was very bland and the chicken tasted like it was fried in the same grease you would fry fish in. Don't think we'll be coming back anytime soon.

One of my favorite chain restaurants in town. The food tastes great and it's so reasonably priced. Service is hit or miss (depending on how busy they are). Today we had a good server who helped us and gave me plenty of lemons when I asked! If they bring you the wrong side, they are so good at bringing you the correct one. Almost all of the seating is booth, which I love! Also enjoy the fish tank and atmosphere, it's warm and inviting. I've never gotten anything I haven't liked. Good deals on seafood and fish. I like how their mashed potatoes have the skin in it as well. Will always recommend for a casual dining place with good food. Always good service and relaxing atmosphere.

I ordered Cheddar's baby back ribs ( for the first time); they are DELICIOUS, and very meaty!😋😁👍 This was our first time eating at Cheddar's "Scratch Kitchen". The restaurant is clean, the food is good and they give you generous portions. And the prices are great (you get your money worth). We ordered:Chicken Alfredo, Grilled Lemon Pepper Whitefish, Cornmeal Fried Whitefish, Sweet Baby Carrots, Broccoli, and Baked Potato. My husband wanted to go back the next day. This time we got it to go. I ordered the 6oz Top Sirloin Steak (Medium Well and you can tell by the picture that's what it was), it was tough (I'll never get it again) the Broccoli is excellent and the honey butter croissants are good. He got the same (as before) but got the fish "Blackened". The next time we're in Terre Haute, we plan on eating here again (if y'all don't eat them out of house and home before we come back).

Deming Park is a sprawling 177-acre park in Terre Haute, Indiana, offering a wide range of recreational activities. It features a historic fountain and various amenities such as a playground, an 18-hole disc golf course, a greenhouse, fishing areas, picnic spots, swimming pool, tennis courts, and basketball courts. The park is also pet-friendly but lacks a fenced area for off-leash activities. Additionally, it provides safety measures for sledding during winter.
Deming Park offers a nice Christmas light display... done by different local businesses... there is also a train than runs during the Christmas season... We love seeing the lights and it has become part of our Christmas tradition...

We lived here for few years and it's great to see they keep improving Deming Park when we visit "the grandparents"! The playground is top notch and it's cool they have a pool and train ride for the kiddos. Such a great kid / family spot in Terre Haute!

Beautiful park. Great for walking, walking your dog, riding your bike, jogging, 2 excellent accesible playground areas, parents supervising their children, many shelters, scattered picnic areas and benches. Very clean with nice restroom areas, a pool in the summer, and well mannered patrons.

Wonderful very quiet manicured park , you can tell the city and residents love this park they have a pool here and a train ride in the middle of the park. Lots of shelters to have a picnic at and a Frisbee golf course. Also many huge old trees in the park so shady :) And they have a small train to ride if you want to do this seems to run on weekends only.

Pub
Sonka Irish Pub, a historic establishment in Chicago, is a well-known neighborhood tavern offering an array of Irish pub grub and craft brews. Situated on the northwest corner of Wabash Avenue and 14th Street since 1900, this cozy pub serves up traditional Irish dishes with a touch of American flavor.
Ate here on recommendation from a shop we were in town visiting just down the street. We were both very pleased with the service and our 2 sandwiches. The onion rings were also tasty. Next time we are in the area we will return for sure. Service was great! I wish we still had an Irish themed pub back home. I may not drink but I love the atmosphere of an Irish pub.

⭐ One Star — Rude, Discriminatory, and Completely Unwelcoming I came here with my partners expecting a simple meal and good company. Instead, I was kicked out because I didn’t have two forms of ID—even though I’m well over 21 (I couldn't pass as 21 if I tried!) and had zero intention of drinking. I just wanted a lemonade and grilled cheese. What kind of establishment demands two forms of ID just to be seated? Especially when I watched the staff warmly greet other tables without asking for ID at all. Not once did I see anyone else questioned like I was. When I came back later—still not ordering alcohol, mind you—the waitress who initially made me leave refused to even acknowledge me. She spoke to my partners, asked if they needed anything, checked on their meals, and gave me the coldest shoulder I’ve experienced in any restaurant. Not a glance. Not a word. The whole experience was humiliating, exclusionary, and just plain mean. If you’re looking for a place that treats customers with basic decency, I suggest you look anywhere else.
Chloe H — Google review
I was excited to try Sonka for the first time. The cod sandwich was good but the coleslaw was disappointing, no carrots, no tasty. The potato cakes were small more like tators tots. My husband got a salad with lots of ingredients. It'd help if the food was served in larger dishes, it was a lot for the small plates. What we really liked were the prices, cheaper than similar places. What we didn't like is the flies that were flying around our dishes, really annoying. The waiters were nice and the vibe of the place was pretty good. Parking was a little difficult

Always enjoy my visit. Good food, service, atmosphere, and is kept clean. Nice big menu and plenty of drink options. No Malibu though. People seem to have a generally good time here. I would recommend this place. 21 and over only.

Stopped in for lunch on our way through town. The staff was great, the food was delicious, and it was a fun atmosphere! Highly recommend and will be stopping in again if in the area in the future for a hot sandwich and cold beer!

Not real Irish food. It was good. I asked for real potato Irish chips. I was given home made American chips. Fish was good. But not all one piece like expected. Broken up small pieces served on bread.

My favorite bar in town! This atmosphere is so chill and the food is always amazing. Half priced apps on Wednesdays and trivia on Thursday! So many beers on tap and they rotate to always try something new. Definitely a place to hang out with friends. When it's nice outside, I can spend hours on their patio. Servers are so friendly. On busy nights, be prepared for food to come out a bit later, but sip on a cold one while you wait.

Loved everything. Went 2 days ago. Our group each got different things and everything was amazing. Did do the Caprese BLT they have on special and it was perfect. Also do not pass on the fried pickles. I get those whenever I can at restaurants and Sonkas definitely were in the top 5 of all the ones I have tried

Since 2007, this restaurant has been serving delectable dishes like lobster corn dogs and NY strip steaks. The owners prioritize sourcing the finest ingredients for their menu.
This was my first time here. I'm still sitting at my table writing a review because I didn't want to wait. Best service, best steak and literally the BEST mac and cheese with lobster I have ever had. This meal was worth EVERY penny.

My fiancé and I wanted to try something different tonight. We love steakhouses in Indianapolis and were searching for that without driving to Indy. We drove 45 mins to J Fords and were not disappointed. The service, cocktails, steak and dessert were amazing! Totally coming back. Shout out to our server tonight, didn’t catch his name, but he managed probably five/six other tables and killed it! Highly recommend the truffle fries and the ooey gooey butter cake!

Truly Amazing Service! Food was outstandingly prepared with a wonderful presentation! Every bite took you on an adventure through flavor town! Food is priced accurately, especially adding in the prep time, changing out of plates, silverware, and the attention to detail! Definitely brag worthy! Almost that perfect hole in the wall atmosphere but super intimate. My wife and I had a strip and rib eye between us and some truffle mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, and ceviche. All of the food was completely top-notch. Only real complaint was it was a little pricey but not out of the line with what the dining experience you are getting!! Will definitely be going again :)

Truly one of the most incredible, satisfying, and delicious meals I've ever had. Everything from service to food was impeccable. The food is worth every single penny!

Absolutely amazing!!!!! I thought that there was nothing that would ever compare to Todd Jurichs in Virginia! But this place is right up there on the top of my list! We moved here in 9/2021, his family is from Rockville and I have not had this good of restaurant since I moved to Indiana! The barrel cut steak was so tender I don’t even think I chewed it! The truffle mashed potatoes and port wine mushrooms amazing! And the goat cheese appetizer! Amazing! Let me talk about the service I didn’t catch her name, but perfect service! Hell she cleaned after my husband and his crumbs, I don’t even clean up after him! Yes it is pricey, but it is worth every penny and every bite for the best food!
Yasemin S — Google review
Chris was very knowledgeable about the food, spirits, and wine. I was expecting a modest lunch and was surprised by the price. I judge a restaurant based off of several factors, one is the host. The host seemed aloof, but she was polite. Chris the server saved the restaurant. He was not only tending bar he was a server. Very polite and respectful. I also grade the restaurant based on the size of the menu. As a rule, if there is a smaller menu the chef takes pride in his work, which was apparent by the eclectic options. This place is not ideal for people who are gluten free. The chef does not make substitutions. However, this is a sign he is meticulous about food pairing and choosing the right ingredients. I ordered the lentils vegan options. The combination of the spices satisfied the pallet with a contrast of robust seasonings and textures. I did not award J Ford's Black Angus more than 4 stars because of the lack of gluten free options and the unwelcoming host. To pay more than $40 on a vegan meal and coffee I expect everyone to be more accommodating.

The Veterans Memorial Museum Of Terre Haute is a military history museum showcasing memorabilia from various wars. Admission is free on Saturdays, and the exhibits are categorized from WWI to current military items. The museum displays American, German, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese artifacts such as uniforms, weapons, photos and more. This beautiful museum is a must-see for all ages in Terre Haute and surrounding communities or for those passing by.
Impressive collection....weapons, uniforms, pictures...if you can think of it they probably have it. Polite young man greeted us, gave us some info then let us roam the museum at will. Most items were donated by local veterans or their families who didn't want their memorobilia moldering away in an attic after they had passed. (I got to hold a real MG-42!) We enjoyed our visit.

My youngest grandson and I toured the museum while he was home for a few days after graduating advanced infantry training. He was fascinated with the museums displays. I have a jacket on display that I had made during my year in Vietnam, which he thought was cool. This museums displays are amazing considering its size. We were there for at least an hour and a half, taking in all the information depicted in each exhibit. Brian Mondel has put a huge amount of effort and money into creating this fantastic museum. Thank you, Brian, for all you have done.

Nestled in the heart of Terre Haute, the Vigo County History Center serves as a captivating local history museum that showcases an impressive array of vintage items and exhibits. One highlight is its tribute to the iconic Coca-Cola bottle, designed right here in Wabash Valley. Established by the Vigo County Historical Society in 1922, this museum occupies a stunning four-level building dating back to 1895 and features extensive collections that narrate the everyday life and culture of the region.
This is a very nicely laid out historical museum with many interesting exhibits. The pioneer days and early history or Terre Haute and Wabash valley are nicely done. 3 floors of exhibits make for a wonderful afternoon stop to get a taste of the local town. We enjoyed it very much. The staff are super helpful.

Great museum over three floors. Several interactive exhibits including an airplane. Countless little known facts about the Vigo county area that everyone will enjoy learning. Mary was a wealth of information for our group ranging from adults to school age children. Definitely worth the time. And be sure to use the old Coke machine and enjoy a cold bottle of Coca-Cola in the old soda shop!

Rhonda B — Google review
This is really a good museum. I would heavily recommend it. Its clean, the displays are laid out very well. Perhaps the records and documents don't need to be hidden behind a drug store? But other than that, it tells the story of the county really well and honors those who were one of the first in. I love the exhibit about immigrants, as well as the exhibit for first responders. The coke bottles are excellent and I love the mock up recreation of the factory.

Love the new Historical Museum. The displays are amazing, and its so much more accessible and organized than before. I dont like that Stiffy Green is in the dark, even though I know its supposed to be interactive. Really wish the horror section was larger, but the research center and all the recreations of old buildings is so cool. Staff is fantastic and love the gift shop! Highly recommend a visit.

The Wabash Valley Railroad Museum is a nonprofit museum located in an old Terre Haute & Indianapolis freight depot, showcasing the city's rich railroad history dating back to the 1880s. Visitors can explore hands-on exhibits, rolling stock, and a train-viewing platform offering views of mainline operations. The museum offers interactive experiences such as trying out morse code on a telegraph and filling out a train order at the operator's desk.
The tour guide was the sweetest!!! He was very knowledgeable since he has worked for the Railroad all his life!! It is the neatest little place!! I highly recommend it!

My wife and I visited the museum for our first time on Saturday May 23rd, 2025. Admission was $7 each. Bill Foster, the museum president, took us on a tour of the buildings and rolling stock. He was VERY informative and passionate about the museum. Being a railfan, I appreciate someone who knows what the railroads meant to the history of this country. The museum’s 2 interlocking towers were really fascinating. The levers in the towers no longer control actual train movements but are wired up to simulate their former function. Kudos! The cabooses and troop car also have stories behind them that Bill explained. The museum is located adjacent to a very active CSX rail line which was viewable from the museum’s elevated viewing deck. As the museum wasn’t crowded, Bill spent well over 3 hours talking with us. I can’t thank him enough for spending so much time with us. He is truly THE type of person an organization wants dealing with the public. Expect to spend at least an hour on the tour. The museum is only open Saturdays May through October. Highly recommended for anyone who likes trains. Ken Koren Rockville, IN

Park was reasonably clean , considering dirt fest wasn't too long ago. The ramps going down to the floating docks have sand on them and are very steep. It is just a flat incline with side bars . If you were to slip u would fall and slide right down into the water so be careful. I think steps would have been more appropriate but maybe they wouldn't work idk. There were some people sleeping in the amphitheater right in the middle of the day . Looked like they had been camping out there and were very dirty. Otherwise I would of gave 5 stars

Square Donuts is a casual chain that has been serving up its unique square-shaped donuts with a wide variety of toppings alongside coffee since 1967. The idea for the distinctive shape came from Richard Comer, Sr., and his family has been running the business ever since. The donuts are known for their delicious aroma and filling nature, with evenly layered glaze. Customers rave about the cream-filled donuts and appreciate the friendly staff at this historic establishment in Terre Haute.
Early morning sugar run❣️ My 4yr old grandson loves this morning treat. Their donuts are delicious and the storefront is in such a small cozy setting that it’s just impossible to not set a great tone for the day. From the counter display, customer service and right on through every bite of donut- It’s just perfect❣️❣️

Cash only, get with the times grandpa. Rise n Roll and Pana donuts are way better than these donuts. Too bad Terre Haute has zero donut options. Square donuts pretty much has a monopoly here. If Rise N Roll opened a location in Terre Haute this place would go out of business.
Kyle M — Google review
I would never dream I'd be giving this place a one star because I used to love it so much. I rarely have cash these days and I am not usually able to go when they're open but I found myself under the right circumstances and in need of a pick me up today. When I pulled up I asked the lady working if they specifically had unfilled chocolate long john's to which she said yes and then I asked if they had the chocolate donuts with the white cream filling to which she also stated yes. I asked if I could get four of the unfilled and two of the filled. She proceeded to fill two bags and handed them to me as I handed her the last of my cash. I then drove on my merry way trusting that everything was in order. This was my mistake. Upon arriving home I opened the bags to discover that she had given me three glazed donuts (which were never even mentioned) and three of the filled chocolate. Not once did she say that she couldn't understand me nor that there was a communication issue at all. It's as though she just threw whatever she had available in the bags hoping I wouldn't check them and by the time I did it would be too late (they were closing in 30 minutes at that time). I was really looking forward to the pick me up and this definitely soured my day.
Rachel R — Google review
Update… Dont trust the posted hours. This location is hardly ever open. If you actually catch them open, you will need to be there when they first open, or they won't have any selection left. Hands down best donuts you'll ever eat. Be forewarned, once you eat at Square Donuts, you'll never like any other brand of donuts ever again.

Pairs well with coffee! As soon as you bring the donut to your lips you're hit with the sweetest aroma, vanilla. There aren't air pockets in the dough, it's truly filing, and the glaze is evenly layered. Their cream filled donuts.....wow. To say they put love into their recipe is an understatement, they put their souls into it. The friendliest staff I have ever encountered. The company carries a deep history, dating back to the 1950s. Very clean yet vibrant building. Reputable service and community involvement per multiple awards that decorate the walls. It's a cash only establishment, which is limiting the business, specifically financial growth & expansion(they carry franchise potential for sure!) but is totally understandable if that's not the goal.

Easy, beautiful hike. I clocked it over 6 miles, hiking the full loop.

Cool trail. Walking around the wildlife was a treat.
Michelle P — Google review
This wildlife refuge really stands out here in terre haute. Its got a really cool environment, almost like a swamp esk style. I really enjoy seeing the variety of greens and ponds, it really is a beautiful place. Everything is well kept, and the trail is accessible for everyone. Edit - also beautiful in the wintertime!
Paul H — Google review
Beautiful new bridge walk! Park benches, plenty of breeze and nature to enjoy. Stroller and wheelchair accessible, dog friendly. Very clean.
Lovely C — Google review
Great trail to run walk, run, or bike. Very flat. Occasionally you will have random shoes or a diaper on the trail but it gets cleaned up. I have found a homeless person sleeping in the restroom.
Joel B — Google review
Great place for walking with beautiful scenery on one side of the trail. Lots of bird watching. Unfortunately, there is so much litter and folks dumping their trash, it really takes away from the beauty. It could also use a few doggie stations along the way.
Mike F — Google review
It was absolutely wonderful, and I loved it! I was pleased to see there was an area with pamphlets and information about the local parks, wildlife, and outdoor resources. The signs showing trails and walkways were a nice addition as well.

Dobbs Park, located east of Deming Park in Terre Haute, offers a diverse range of attractions for outdoor enthusiasts. The park features a Nature Center, Native American Museum, a 25-acre State Nature Preserve, and a three-acre pond. Visitors can explore the park through three miles of trails that wind through pine woods, old growth and second growth forests, and restored wetlands.
Great place to let the kids relax and run around and play on the playground equipment. We looked at geece on the pond. Some people were fishing. Nice picnic area. Has some trails, perfect for a 5 and 6 year old. Does have a nature Center. Check out all the pictures.

Very nice park with a play set for the kids. Nice all around park for the family.

Great place to walk with ur dog and fish. This place has several hiking trails, a playground, and a big fishing pond. We have gone here multiple times and have not encountered many people.
Lilly H — Google review
Awesome weather. Trails are good except down by the marsh areas.
W. F — Google review
Great park, take your kids because they will enjoy the museum and nature center.
Fred W — Google review
Great place to go fishing. Nice play ground. There is a Nature Center but it's only open during the week. Great walking trails.
Jessica W — Google review
Dobbs is one of my favorites. The nature center and native American museum are fantastic for kids and adults. Great opportunity for learning. This park has a whole schedule for summer activities that are typically low cost and very affordable. Highly recommend this park for family fun. Great nature experience.
Ciara B — Google review
One of our very favorite parks. The little nature center with fun creatures (my kids especially love the turtles and snakes) and I love the bird and critter watching area. The Native American Museum is always nice for a short educational trip. The nice little trail system has a good variety of length trails for hiking. We like that they have a few short trails that are perfect for smaller kiddos. The playground can get a little muddy and there's not a lot of nice seating near the playground, but it's a great variety of equipment and my kids favorite park. We like that there's a big grassy area between the parking lot and playground, which is very helpful if you have a runner. 😜 And it's much shadier and less crowded than some of the other area parks. Overall it's the perfect park if you want to have a nice day outing with a variety of activities as a family or solo.

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Terre Haute, Stables Steakhouse is a luxurious dining destination that beautifully marries history with culinary excellence. Housed in a charmingly renovated former stable, this restaurant boasts an inviting ambiance characterized by rich dark wood and leather furnishings, plaid carpeting, and exposed brickwork. The stunning chandeliers add a touch of elegance reminiscent of the old Elk Lodge that once occupied the space.
This is a wonderful place to have a night out on a date or with friends. The staff is excellent and went above and beyond for us. Enjoy great drinks, food, and atmosphere here. Worth the price! I will coming back here.
Michael W — Google review
Excellent dining experience in a beautifully restored stable barn that once housed Clydesdales for a brewery. You can dine in a horse stable! Steak was top notch and the bread pudding was a treat. Nice wine selection and a beautiful bourbon bar! Perfect date night place! Recommend! #funwithmarkandjoni
Mark S — Google review
Stables was so much more than I could have imagined. The atmosphere was amazing along with Will, our server. I made reservations and asked them to “make it as romantic as possible” and they did not disappoint. We were led up a flight of stairs to a private room off to the side called the “gangster room” there was a candle in the middle of the table and we were given (free) champagne. The lights were low and there was soft jazz music playing. Our food was 5 stars as well, my husband said it was the best steak he has ever had. We will most definitely be back!!!
Kylie J — Google review
The wait staff was all amazing, but our server, Gretchen, was fantastic! The food is a little expensive, than say, The Outback or something, but those lack all personality and charm which this was full of. The steaks were all cooked to perfection and were so yummy. The seafood soup/chowder was delicious. We were given the largest potato I've ever seen that 3 of us shared and we barely made a dent! The bread pudding was warm and melted in your mouth. We chatted with the manager, Ike, who was so super nice! If you live in, or are ever passing through Terre Haute, stop by! It's literally an old horse stable and there are little rooms/stables all inside that give you some cozy privacy. They also had a piano and I think a cello player that gave it a nice atmosphere! The downsides for us were the French onion soup and the caesar salad which were fine, but not our favorite.
Hilary F — Google review
Stables Steakhouse always has great quality food prepared just right at every visit. The staff is attentive and always ready to answer questions and offer suggestions for menu items. This is not a place to go in a hurry like some restaurants and they aren’t pushy for you to hurry or rush through this is a nice sit down dinner experience so plan for time to sit , relax and enjoy ! Appetizer suggestions : meatballs, sliders if available and lobster bites. The house salad with ranch is great! Main course: Filet mignon or tomahawk (if available) Sides: You MUST try the sweet potato casserole and the carrot balls . Dessert: Bread pudding and our kids say the chocolate cake is the best ever ! Really anything on the menu is worth a try and as mentioned above everything we’ve tried is always cooked just right and seasoned to perfection . Great place to celebrate birthdays or any special event but also nice to just meet up with friends and family for an evening and know you are going to have a wonderful meal and service.
Megan B — Google review
This steakhouse nails it—flavor, service, and vibe. The ribeye was juicy and perfectly seared, the sides stole the show. Service was flawless: attentive, friendly, and spot-on with recommendations. The atmosphere? Warm, elegant, and buzzing with good energy. Whether it’s a celebration or a casual splurge, this place delivers!

Our food was exceptionally delicious, cooked to perfection. Our main waitress was super nice (sorry I can't remember her name 🫤) This was our 2nd time being in there. We we're celebrating our 26th Wedding Anniversary. If you happen to go in there to eat, make sure you try their warm Bread Pudding... Very dee-lish... In fact it's probably the BEST I've ever had

The Community Theatre of Terre Haute is a charming venue that exudes warmth and hospitality, thanks to its dedicated volunteer staff. Having hosted the AACT State Fest multiple times, they have consistently impressed visitors with their engaging atmosphere and well-organized events. The theater itself is cozy and inviting, making it an ideal spot for both seasoned theatergoers and newcomers alike.
Went here with about 20 of my recovery alumni group *Anabranch Recovery Center. Small, cozy theater. Only a few of our group had seen a play before. It was excellent! Everyone had a great time and Said they were now fans of plays.

Some French guy with completely white skin wearing a black mask and suit was on stage and doing magic tricks with a wand. He was so annoying and his tricks sucked really bad. They were so lame and childish that everyone started throwing banana peels at him and he fell backwards while the crowd booed him off the stage. I think his name was Artful or something but that's so stupid? Who let this guy in bro. If I ever see him again I'm telling him his show was so bad it made me change my name and dye my hair so nobody at that theater would recognize me. I was literally dying of death.
Layla B — Google review
We have seen numerous shows here and been thoroughly impressed. However in recent shows, even though the talent is there, the immorality and foul language is so prevalent that I was ashamed to be there listening. If this is the "normal", we won't be back. Foul language and immorality doesn't appeal to the masses. Find more family friendly series.

Beautiful space. Personable volunteer staff. Welcoming. Engaging. Great, great hosts for the AACT State Fest. This is their third time hosting, so I've been here for 2/3 of their hosting gigs, and I've been impressed both times. Nice to see you paved a parking lot. Thanks for a great experience!
Michael C — Google review
The theater was nice and the staff was friendly. The actors in the play that I saw did a good job with the material, the play itself just wasnt that good in my opinion. It was a two person show which was also in a very small room which made it nearly impossible to move around even during the intermission. I'm glad to have this kind of resource in Terre Haute and I'll support them again so that we can grow and expand our culture. I applaud their efforts in this regard.

Nestled in North Terre Haute, Indiana, Old Mill Dam Park is a serene haven for nature lovers and families alike. This charming park has undergone significant improvements, making it an inviting spot to unwind away from the hustle of restaurants and fast food joints. Visitors can enjoy picnicking amidst the scenic beauty or exploring the newly added playground that caters to children’s fun. The park's natural charm is enhanced by its wildlife; many guests have spotted water snakes gracefully gliding through the waters.
Really like what they've done with the place. The trees that are carved are awesome! Can walk up and down the creek now !
Richard R — Google review
Enjoyed viewing the wildlife. This area is known for its many water snakes. We counted 5 in just one section of water. Unfortunately a lot of litter from parties, particularly under the railroad bridges. Otherwise it would be a great place to enjoy listening to the water falls.

They have removed the dam at the park and the ecology is returning to the natural stream flow from the 1700s. The dam and lake made a beautiful setting, but it is interesting watching the stream return to its natural state.

Mill Dam (minus the dam) is a nice park and creek to explore. Its a perfect place to go and unwind and take in nature. I love going wading in the water and my little yorki-poo loves it as well. Definitely a nice relaxing day for anyone who visits.

Cute little park we found to waste a few minutes in between errands. My 5 year old loved the newer equipment and the gazebo would be perfect for a lunch or snack. Restroom was temporarily closed which is hard with a 5 year old.
Jessica W — Google review
I haven't been back here for quite some time I don't live in Terre Haute anymore but it looks like they're trying to do a lot of improvements it was nice just to sit there and eat my food instead of a noisy restaurant or fast food place I seen it they had a playground added so I hope they keep improving this cuz this is a great place and I noticed they had wood carvings out there in the wooded area by the bridge that was super cool, so yeah good place to visit

Been going to Ol' Mill Dam Park since I was a baby. One of my favorite places to go and think, fish, and get right with myself. Small but scenic the waterfalls and sound made by the dam is rather peaceful.
