Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park is a captivating destination that immerses visitors in the rich history of the California Gold Rush. Located in Coloma, this park features a replica sawmill and over 20 historic mining buildings, allowing guests to step back in time. Here, you can try your luck at gold panning while learning about the pivotal moment on January 24, 1848, when James W. Marshall discovered gold flakes that ignited a massive migration westward.
I've always loved this place. The river is beautiful and there's a lot of interesting history to learn about. The park is great and the little town is quaint. You can raft nearby. The shade trees are handy when it's hot and if you get too hot, just jump in the river but keep little ones supervised. The current is strong. The rangers are friendly and helpful.

I've moved in the area my whole life and finally got around to visiting! Used my State Park pass for my parking, and only had to pay for the tour. The kids loved the Junior Rangers activity book. Even my almost 4 year old was into it.
Jenny C — Google review
Great place! You could spend all day here. Google maps says it closed at 5. It actually closed at 4. The range inside the museum when we got there told us to go outside first as the things outside closed before inside did. So we did that and actually everything closed at 4 so we completely missed the main museum. That was a bummer. The mining methods exhibit is my favorite. So much interesting information and fantastically well laid out. The kids were convinced we were going into a mine! Thankfully the bathrooms are accessible from outside for after the museum closed. They have the coolest tiles in them!
Allison W — Google review
Lovely park with a lot of historic buildings and a beautiful trail towards the Marshall Monument. The monument trail was absolutely beautiful with a lot of different wild flowers scattered through the way, we could observe birds like quails and scrub jays around, and most of it was shady so perfect for a hot day.
Lucy A — Google review
Great State Park. Start at the visitor center for information and maps. Very informative. You can pay your parking fee and park in any lot. Everything is short walks/hikes. We had a great time. Beautiful park and river.
Mary S — Google review
Great historical preservation, history, and beautiful views of autumn foliage, and the South Fork Sacramento River.
Sunny W — Google review
A piece of California history that is well preserved. Also found wild grapes, saw a deer with her twin fawns, and learned about the impact of the Chinese in the gold rush.
Kara C — Google review
One of the best outdoor and interactive museums I've ever been to. We learned a lot about Sutter's Mill and where the gold rush began for California. Strolling the grounds was extremely peaceful and offered many places to stop and read or rest. As someone who's not a California native but generally enjoys learning things, this place was perfect to spend an afternoon.

David Girard Vineyards, located just 5 minutes from town, offers a unique wine tasting experience with sit-down tastings of their award-winning Rhone varietals and guided tours of the scenic estate by ATV. The vineyard specializes in small batches of Rhone-inspired wines and also hosts events like weddings and local community college drama group performances. Visitors praise the beautiful property, friendly staff, and enjoyable wine offerings.
David Girard Vineyards has a work of art for property! My family and I went for Mother’s Day yesterday, and we had the most peaceful and pleasant experience. My parents had some wine which they said was wonderful, their charcuterie was tasty, and the friendliness is ever so heartwarming. I highly recommend David Girard Vineyards to anyone wanting a new experience, or somewhere to simply enjoy the beauty of nature and have a good conversation! 🌾💐🍷 God bless!

David Girard Vineyards was the perfect venue for our wedding. From the great communication from Justin and and the help of his team with the set up to the amazing views, our guest wouldn’t stop talking about how gorgeous the venue is. Amazing people to work with. Highly recommend!!
Andrey S — Google review
The venue was amazing breathtakingly beautiful with a lot of options. Sprawling vineyards, great wine, a full kitchen for vendors, and the indoor option has air conditioning for the summer. However, the real jewel of the venue is the coordinator, Justin. If you want something, Justin will make it happen for you. You can fully trust him with anything. Not only will he get it done, he will do it better than you could have. I truly could not have done it without Justin. Everything went incredibly smoothly, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Choosing David Girard was the best decision I made during my wedding (aside from choosing to marry my now husband).
Gracie S — Google review
I recently had the joy of photographing a wedding at David Girard Vineyards in Placerville, and wow...what a day! From the very start, this venue impresses with its multiple ceremony sites, each offering its own unique backdrop among the rolling hills of vineyards. Every spot feels intimate and thoughtful, giving couples real choices for the perfect “I do” moment. The reception space sits proudly on top of the hill, and the views? Absolutely sweeping. There’s nothing like watching the sun set over endless vineyards while the celebration unfolds nearby...it’s pure magic for both the couple and the camera. On top of the stunning scenery, the team at David Girard is incredible. The coordinator, Justin, kept everything running smoothly, anticipating every need so the day felt effortless and full of joy. David Girard really won the lottery with him! Between the amazing spaces and the supportive staff, photographing a wedding here is a dream from start to finish. If you’re looking for a vineyard venue that combines flexibility, breathtaking views, and a team that truly cares, David Girard Vineyards is an absolute standout.

Attended a small wedding here. Great atmosphere. Plenty of parking. Large property that is well taken care of and looks like it's making more improvements. The wedding ceremony section was perfect. Looked fantastic.I The reception area was beautiful witha dj that played the music at a volume you can actually have conversations in. The staff were incredibly friendly and efficient. Had a couple of the wines and looked them both. The rose was my favorite. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Rey J — Google review
We’ve been here a few times now. Each time we’ve received excellent wines, exceptional service, and always an outstanding view. We’ve been twice with Erin doing our pours and she is very attentive, personable and just friendly. She seems passionate about learning ( had a book open to learn about tasting notes, price range, and much more information to better her knowledge). She even recognized us during our second visit with her! We recommend this winery to all of our friends and have shared the David Girafd experience with friends who have brought more friends. Will come back as often as we can!
Brittanie N — Google review
I recently photographed a mid-October wedding at David Girard Vineyards, and the experience was incredible. The drive up to the property alone is breathtaking — the vineyards were just beginning to turn golden for fall while the surrounding trees were still lush and green. I loved that the wedding area felt completely private and separate from the wine-tasting space, which remained open during the celebration. Justin, the coordinator, was absolutely the BEST! He was kind, communicative, and truly advocated for the couple, ensuring the entire day ran smoothly from start to finish. From a photographer’s perspective, this venue is a dream. The views are stunning at every turn, and as the sun set during the speeches and first dances, the sky just kept getting more magical. The property is expansive, offering endless photo opportunities for couples who love variety and scenic beauty. I can’t wait to shoot here again!

The most beautiful venue! From venue searching, to selecting this venue, all the way to the day of, this venue has been organized, easy to work with, professional, kind, friendly, and overall the best. The venue is absolutely stunning. You will not regret your decision with DG :) An additional shout out to Justin, who helped us bring our dream + vision to life at DG!

All-Outdoors California Whitewater Rafting offers an amazing experience for both beginners and experienced rafters. The guides are patient, professional, and ensure safety while making the trip fun. The food provided is delicious and the camping experience is top-notch. Whether it's a 2-day trip or a single day adventure, All-Outdoors California Whitewater Rafting provides an unforgettable experience on various rivers with different levels of difficulty.
Our group of 8 ranged in ages from 6 to 66, and 1 adult has early dementia. So we booked the Tom Sawyer trip ranked level 1 and 2. Everyone had a fantastic time. The guides were wonderful, dealing with many inexperienced people in all the groups. The teenagers and young adults are eager for their next rafting trip with All Outdoors Whitewater and to tackle higher ranked rapids!

From the first inquiry phone call I had with All-Outdoors to the final moments of handing back our life vests & paddles, they took such great care of us! I had a lot of questions as we were preparing for our trip, between payment & getting waivers signed. Every step of the way, they were patient & happy to help however they could. Always going above & beyond! Joey, Sophia, River, and Maya were guides for my third and fourth graders this past week. They were AWESOME! Very patient with the kids. Engaging & FUN! Great balance of emphasizing the importance of safety with taking risks & finding opportunities to fully enjoy all that the experience can offer. We will definitely work with All-Outdoors again!

We went rafting on the south fork of the American River with AOR and had the perfect day. Joe was an excellent guide- friendly, great with our 8 year-old son, and could totally read the mood on the level of interaction our boat was craving and when we just wanted to listen to the water. After the trip, my son asked if we could go back again... two days later! We felt like we had the river to ourselves and were not at all jealous of the boats crammed with 8 strangers.

We had the best rafting experience! Markus and Ashton were amazing guides! We felt safe and had so much fun. We will definitely be back next year!

We went rafting on the South Fork of the America river. Myself, my son and my grandson went with All Outdoors. We had pre-booked well in advance and filled in most of the documentation online. It was an afternoon trip. On arrival at 12 noon we met our guide, Cameron and fellow rafter Jasmine. Cameron gave the safety briefing and kitted us out with buoyancy aids etc.. Setting out we tried our paddling skills. The trip down river was wonderful. No tech, phones etc., it was nice to be out in nature. We saw a river turtle and lots of birds. Along the river we had to spot the pumpkins which delighted my grandson and Jasmine. The rapids were stage 2 and 3. So great fun but not too dangerous. At a calm spot we all got in the river and floated down for a while. It was a great experience, enhanced by Cameron and his reassuring comments and banter. We all greatly enjoyed the experience and can recommend this professional company and especially Cameron.

We had a wonderful experience rafting the Wild & Scenic Tuolumne River with AO rafting. Our guide Scott was amazing and very knowledgable about the region. We had an amazing time and highly recommend! The homemade hummus made the experience too.
Katie H — Google review
Just enjoyed a fun afternoon on the South Fork of the American River. We had a group of 18 in 3 boats. Our guides were young and enthusiastic and the lunch was yummy. I will go again!
Kristen T — Google review
Amazing adventure. It was our first time and we picked a class 2-3 rapids course. Checkin was smooth and seamless and all safety gear was in excellent shape. Bonus points for providing wetsuits free of charge (it was cold.) Cameron was an exceptional river guide and it was awesome spotting all the pumpkins going down the river. I think we are ready for class 4 rapids!

Gold Hill Vineyard and Brewery is an 80-acre property that offers award-winning wines and seasonal beers, making it a perfect destination for a diverse group of visitors. The establishment is open from Thursday to Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. Guests have praised the unique whites and reds, as well as the stunning scenery. The friendly staff members are also highlighted in reviews, along with the reasonable prices for pints.
Such a find. Lovely wine and beautiful view. We had a snack because patron Pam had made pasta salad. So glad we found this place. Someone on our train recommended it. Just go. You will be happy
Lara B — Google review
Honesty, Gold Hill Winery probably not the best one among the area, but it won’t be a bad one, cause there are many different types of the wine for tasting. Also, the owner, which is an old lady seems like a fun person, she waived my tasting fee since I went there on a Thursday. If one thing I not feel quite good, that might be the deposited ashes of the grape left in the glass. To leave the customer a better tasting experience, they could add a cap with filter on the top of the bottle of the wines, so those ashes of the grapes will not fall into the glass with the fluid.
Timmy L — Google review
Wonderful wines and stunning views of Gold Hill countryside! Laid back and warm! Definitely recommend exploring. We brought deli sandwiches and enjoyed their deck and views
Annalee H — Google review
The experience is casual, the views are great, the price is right, but the wines are mediocre. (Didn't try the beers) The biggest problem is that the winemaking style here seems to result in wines that are rather nondescript... the typical flavors you'd expect from those varietals don't tend to shine through. So it's more like they have two flavors here: white (which I wasn't a fan of their white varietals), or red (which taste ok, but range in body from light to medium... not a single hearty, full-bodied wine here.) The syrah tasted almost just like the cabernet sauvignon (and neither one was as dark and rich as they usually are)... the malbec, too, was a medium-bodied affair, but we found it the most interesting of the lot, with a sort of cedar-like flavor. But the prices are affordable and the view of the vineyards is quite nice.

Wonderful place to go. Great wine and beer. Very peaceful and a great place to have a picnic
Susan J — Google review
Amazing reds and whites! A large immaculate and pure Diamond 💎 in the hills of the Sierra foothills.
Aren L — Google review
Always happy to find a new brewery! Tried all the beers and liked them all. Absolutely beautiful location and view. The Staff were very friendly and helpful. And the pints are $6 which these days is pretty decent. Thanks for that!
Milo M — Google review
Let me just start by saying I’m knocking off a star because they are not following El Dorado County COVID protocols. Employees and customers are not wearing masks, there is no social distancing and the wine tasting is indoors. Maybe the huge “Impeach Biden” sign when you leave will give you some insight into the behavior. As for their beer, I tasted four of the six available and they were sub-par. They tasted like a home brewer in the family started dabbling in beer making. The fact that they have 6 different beer styles and they all are exactly 5% ABV is also suspect. Don’t come here for the beer. As for their wine, their cab franc was very good and a few other reds were above average. They are all estate grown, a big plus. You’ll pay about $10 more for a bottle of wine to a comparable bottle purchased at a grocery store, but it is a winery and think of it as a surcharge for their fantastic views. Tastings are 3 for $5 per person and does not apply to a bottle if you purchase one. 80% of the customers there were locals. As the lady pouring the wine behind the counter without a mask pointed out, “you can tell who is from out of the area because they are the ones wearing masks”.

Located just off California's shortest state highway and close to the Coloma main road, Olde Coloma Theatre has been entertaining audiences for over 50 years. This theater supports local talent and hosts weekend shows, including educational performances about the Gold Rush. Visitors can experience melodrama in the heart of gold country and are encouraged to participate by cheering or booing during performances. The small venue provides an intimate setting for guests to feel involved in the action on stage.
An interactive style of theater where you cheer for the hero and boo at the villain! Lots of fun for the whole family! And they have freshly popped popcorn on site!
Melynda F — Google review
Great improvements on a hidden gem! The theater has always put on a good show but the new air conditioning system has been a welcome upgrade for those hot summer nights. If you are looking for a fun and intimate live theater experience this is a great place. The shows are fun and family friendly. Kids and adults love to cheer for the hero/heroine! Not to mention, boo and hiss at the villain. It’s all in good fun.

This is a wonderful family fun time. The cast puts on a professional and fun filled play. The theater is small enough so that you feel like you are part of the cast. Highly recommend a night at the theater at this melodrama theater.

Good clean fun, can be hokey be that ok too. Love the fact that the audience gets involved. Cheap too, great entertainment. 5 stars
Darrell A — Google review
This was good clean fun for young to young at heart. These folks work hard and dedicate themselves to bring you live theatre, that is sure to please. Very small venue, in a rustic old building, which was saved from demo and transported from san francisco. Everyone is super cool, and very talented bunch of writers and actors. Location is not far from placerville, and a pretty drive on hwy 49, from any direction. Check out a show, and expect to come back soon for another. We went back and saw the same show, because it was just that dang fun. Support local artists, they put their heart and soul out there, so share some enthusiasm and put your funny face on. Ps..celisse patey played a memorable character, and deserves an acheivement award for her outstanding performance of ethel muddenstucker, she was wacky, whimsical, and full on funny.

Nestled along the picturesque South Fork of the American River, Coloma Resort is a delightful getaway that beautifully blends nature, adventure, and history. Surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, this resort offers a variety of accommodations including cozy cabins and bunkhouses perfect for families or groups. With amenities like a swimming pool, playground, and ropes course to keep kids entertained, it’s an ideal spot for family bonding.
It's a family tradition now to go there every year. We book the camping spot each year right after we leave there. It's very family friendly with a lot of camping activities and good facilities. The restrooms and shower rooms are clean and spacious. It's right next to the American River with a good view and convenient to arrange a day trip on the water for rafting. The store is lovely and it carries almost everything you need for camping. Their souvenirs are cute too. You can even buy a small bottle of gold for kids :)

We’ve made this the annual trip for my wife’s birthday at the end of March. It’s a nice weekend away, when we have nothing to do, no other obligations. There is a bunch of history in the area including the gold rush and a couple short hikes. Weather in Spring can be unpredictable, and the river is moving very fast. Watch your kids. The park is clean, well maintained and staff is friendly.
Dustin C — Google review
We booked a site for 5 nights, it was a river side spot. It was such a beautiful view and a private trail down to the river. On our first night, when I was returning from the bathroom I saw a cockroach near our tent. We got out our flashlights and found 4 more climbing on our tent and then saw hundreds more (might be overestimate but that's what it looked like) running up and down the hill just outside our tent. We killed a few and then decided to go to bed and try not to think about it. The next morning we mentioned it to a staff member and they didn't seem surprised. So, we decided we would try to deal with it ourselves. When the sunset we got out our roach killer and begin to put a barrier around our site but that didn't stop them, so we started spraying them, but they kept coming out of nowhere. We eventually ran out of roach killer and it didn't seem to do anything so we went to bed. The next morning we asked to move to a bunk house due to concern of the roaches getting into our stuff. The staff were more than helpful with the switch but still were not surprised about the cockroach issues. Then, I went to use the shower down from our bunk and when I left the shower (it was evening) there were roaches outside and in the grass, around the outside of all the bunk houses in our area as well. If it were not for the roach issue I would rate this place 5 stars, it's clean (besides the roaches at night), the staff were all nice and helpful, and the river was great. I would return here if they got ride of the cockroach issue!

Green areas near campsites full of dog poop. Camping sites has only one restroom not enough to cover the needs of the campers. During night time camping rules are not being imposed by the camping staff the so called quite time which is 10 pm. Broken bottles are on the rivers edge and on the rivers little man made pools. Alot of unwanted materials are just being left on the rivers edge. You can smell cannabis all over the campsites.i would not commend this place unless they will do something immediately and imposed camp rules.

We've been coming to Coloma Resort with our trailers for 4 years with friends. It's on the American River. They have RV, cabins, wagons, and tent camping sites. Many sites are on the riverbank. These have power and water with a dump station onsite. Most sites off the river are full hook-up. They have a pool, playground, store, and a lot of grassy areas. Several restrooms and showers throughout the park. Always well stocked and clean. Best for last the staff are so friendly. Hope you enjoy the site. RV sites have a noon checkout time. Cabins are a 10am checkout. We scheduled our 2025 Memorial Stay when we checked out. The facility has gotten a face-lift with automated gates, a check-in shack, and upgraded greenery. Labor Day 2024: The park is full. Had a nice visit with friends. I'm hoping to book a spot for 2025. Memorial Holiday 2025 - lots of flowers, nice walking paths, and the friendly staff are still there.

Nestled in Coloma, California, the American River Resort is a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Situated on 30 acres along the South Fork American River, this resort offers various camping options including tent and RV sites as well as cozy cabins. With its convenient location just 30 miles from Sacramento, it's a popular spot for whitewater rafting trips. The facilities are well-maintained with amenities such as electric hookups and clean restrooms.
My group of 7 adults had to make a last minute shift in plans for our recent camping trip. American River Resort turned out to be a great option for us. The Platform Tents along the River were clean and comfortable, and we were able to set up our cooking, dining and relaxing areas easily. The sound of the River was amazing white noise at night! Bathrooms and shower facilities were clean, but the 1/4 mile walk required planning! A quick drive to restaurants, nightlife and history.
Linda G — Google review
We utilized the American River Resort for several different aspects of a recent family reunion. 36 people total. Positives: Location! The location is ideal for anyone looking for time by the river and easy in and out for rafting the American River. Rafting! Mostly positive, initially we spent the first mile or so on the river worried about our guide who was irresponsible in her decision to still guide a raft while ill and having difficulty breathing. There were moments where our boat felt very concerned and very unsafe. The guide made the smart decision to pull over and let another guide step in. That is where we met Luke. Luke turned the trip around and made the experience better than we could have ever imagined. We had 5 boats total for our large family and every single one had a great time with their guide on the river. 50/50: Food, Cabin Lodging, Service The food situation was not at all as advertised. We were under the impression our large group would be dining as such, with our own space and able to enjoy our meals without a time limit. We sat at outdoor picnic tables with the rest of the resort, or whoever has signed up to eat the meal being provided. The initial lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers were fine (how would anyone mess that up), but other meals had questionable cuisine.. including a gray potentially molded frittata of some sort for breakfast. They advertised beer and wine for dinner but, there was no wine. We felt very rushed and often uncomfortable at times due to the staff pressuring us to arrive and leave within certain time limits, again not as advertised. We were told completely different times than what we were provided when we booked. We are a large hungry family and were often rationed on the food and members were told they could not have a second of something. Totally not what we were expecting and not worth the money to eat at the resort. The service provided was about 50/50. Some members of the staff were friendly, eager to help and informative. Others were rude, unfriendly and one in particular we avoided due to the way she treated myself and my wife. The cabins: fantastic location and spacious, the air conditioning units inside the cabins cannot keep up with the heat, if you’re worried about the heat the river does bring some reprieve thankfully but the cabins turn into saunas.

Only experienced the camp sites. Very well maintained, flat camping areas with nearby parking and easy access to clean water and well maintained bathrooms. Really nice being near the river...great natural white noise for excellent sleep. Looking forward to the next opportunity to camp here and maybe check out the cabins. Rooms rating would be n/a at this point because I only experienced tent camping.

Nice location close to the River but the R/V sites have voltage problems. Lost power throughout our stay. Which is absolutely ridiculous. Nothing running but lights and the power still goes out. Called the host and the response was that can happen when everyone is running their A/C. The place was nearly empty only 4 other trailers. Thousand Trails is down the road I’d recommend checking them out first.

My experience with the American River Rafting Expeditions in Coloma, was deeply disappointing and honestly upsetting especially due to the behavior of the owner and manager, Arnie Chandola. I was there with my friend, his siblings and their parents, and we were planning to stay for three more days. Around 9:30 PM, a group of us (all minors) were playing hide-and-seek not being rowdy, just having fun. The local noise ordinance doesn’t start until 10:00 PM, and we weren’t disturbing anyone. Despite this, Arnie and another adult male confronted us in an aggressive and intimidating way. They accused us of being disruptive, even though we weren’t breaking any rules. Instead of addressing the situation calmly or professionally, Arnie escalated it, cursing us out, threatening to beat our asses, and going so far as to have us removed from the campsite property entirely, cutting our trip short by days. The Sheriffs department even showed up, not because we were doing anything wrong, but because their ego was hurt simply. We were told to leave by 9:00 A.M the next day.

Camp sites can be small and right on top of your neighbors. Garbage cans are lose to any site, three river access points each with a very small beach and fill up fast. There is a pool as well, but I cannot review, as I didn't try it. Fires or charcoal are not allowed. Small store on site.

This place has something of everyone. Spots for tents, vans, RVs and cabins. Park was well maintained and staff were helpful and friendly. Bathrooms and showers were kept clean at all times. Lots to see and do around here and I look forward to a return visit soon.

Had an overall positive experience camping before going rafting. However, our group had an exceptionally poor customer service experience with the evening hours front desk receptionist, with the name of Noria (woman with gray hair). She was rude to our group from the moment we started interacting with her for the check-in process, even though we were polite and not being demanding. Her tone and demeanor was as if we were all stupid and as if we were completely unwanted at the campsite. This then resulted in a mix-up between what was being offered to us and what was posted on the website. Noria wouldn't even hear out our concerns, even throwing her own staff under the bus based. It resulted in our concern being escalated to the general manager who confirmed what we were saying about the website was indeed correct. This then forced Noria to resolve the concern, although with it being in an obvious begrudgingly kind of way. It definitely has us questioning if we'd use these services again and will likely consider other similar rafting and/or lodging services in the area.

At the James Marshall Monument, visitors can explore a replica of Sutters Mill, a blacksmith shop, and a re-creation of Marshalls cabin. The monument itself is an impressive sight with a towering structure featuring a statue of Marshall pointing to the exact spot where he made his historic discovery. It's an immersive experience that brings to life the momentous event in California's history.
Took my partner here as a surprise trip. We're history nerds and love interactive displays, particularly since my partner is blind. Getting to stand, touch, and interact with historic places makes it so much more impactful. We explored Coloma and the park for a solid two days and feel like we could have spent a couple more! We definitely want to come back when the weather is cooler, it's a great walkable town but not in 3 digit heat. Thank you all who took to making this experience so special for us!

One of the best parks! In the area! The only drawback is the raised parking fee to $10 and not legal to park on the street.

It is a monument of Marshall. You can drive around or walk in the reflection area. There are some informative markers. Picnic area with trailhead is close by. Be sure to drive toward the house, then take a right rather than park in the parking lot for the loop.

Missed that we could drive closer to the monument for easier parking and walking to the monument. The parking and walking wasn't bad, just wish we knew we could have been closer.

The Monroe Ridge Trail is a challenging hike that promises to get your heart pumping as you tackle its steep inclines. As you make your way up, you'll find plenty of scenic spots perfect for taking a breather and soaking in the views. Just remember to plan ahead since there are no restrooms along the trail. Once you reach the summit, you're rewarded with a stunning lookout that's ideal for enjoying a picnic amidst nature's beauty!
Steep, so get ready to get in those steps. There are lots of spots to stop and rest, but no restrooms, so go ahead of time! Lovely lookout at the top for picnic!

If you are looking for your next adventure this is certainly a fun time! There was plenty of excitement mixed with mellow floating time. From start to finish it was organized, safe, informative, and fun! Duffy, Cam, Jill, and the rest of the crew made you feel so welcome and safe from the moment you meet them. They treated our group so well, like old friends getting together for a fun day - though you can tell that is just who they are and I am sure they do that with all the clients which is awesome. All great guys guiding the rafting with a ton of experience and amazing stories to share of all their worldly adventures mixed in with fun ragging, pranks, and joking around. Truly a fun day, lunch was great too!! We are already planning our next trip back, but only if Duffy is our guide!! Loved the camping also. Can't say enough good things about this company, these guys, and the fun of the day!

Amazing experience! Camila, our guide, was AWESOME… our FIRST time and we did level 2-3!!!! Going back for 3-4 🤪…we did FULL DAY (food/drinks included) experience, we camped there…(2 nights) BABY deers 🦌 walking around the campground ⛺️ !!!!!!❤️ 🦌 ❤️ UNFORGETTABLE- INCOMPARABLE:) The ONLY thing that requires ATTENTION and MAINTENANCE is the Swimming Pool, temperatures were in the mid 90-100*, but we jumped into the river!!!!!!!! GRACIAS Camila(Chile)🥰

The rafting here was amazing, but the campground not so much. I WOULD HAVE A MUCH LOWER REVIEW IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE GREAT TIME ON THE RIVER. I DO NOT SUGGEST STAYING AT THE CAMPGROUND. We were on the Middle Fork for two days with a group and had Jan as our guide for both days while Duffy was a guide for another raft in our group. Both were very knowledgeable, friendy, and helpful. Jan (my guide) was awesome, with a great talent on the river and stories about some history of the location! The equipment was all in great shape and we felt very safe the entire time while still feeling the thrill of the river. The rest of the story is the campground. All staff we encountered were helpful. There ends the good part... When we checked in we were sternly told there is a very strict 10pm quiet time, but of our three nights camping there was zero enforcement of this policy. The first night was a football team right across from us that were very loud until 2am, even after someone from.our group approached the coaches and asked them to keep it down. The other nights it was music, yelling, barking dogs, etc. well into the night. When we needed to be up early for our rafting it made for some short and miserable nights. We may come back for the rafting, but will NOT camp here again.

My wife & I rafted the middle fork of the American River and the entire trip exceeded our expectations. Our guide Pablo communicated clearly to us what was expected & how to run the rapids safely & properly. His experience showed and we appreciated him sharing his knowledge of the river area & it's history along with some of his other rafting adventures. Lunch was delicious with a nice variety of options to make a wrap, there was plenty of food for our group and the suggestion to add peanut butter to the chocolate chip cookies was a bonus. The other guides & van drivers were friendly and helpful. It was a beautiful day on the river filled with excitement, thrills, beauty & some peaceful moments floating in arears between the rapids. Looking forward to rafting with American Whitewater Expeditions again.

We LOVED our rafting trip. Pablo and Julianna were phenomenal. The splash jackets they provided were money, so helpful. Beautiful scenery, exhilarating rapids, great guides. The lunch was so yummy. Will definitely book again with them if we come back to the area.

Our white-water rafting trip took an unexpected turn when my son’s girlfriend twisted her ankle just 15 minutes into an all day class 3/4 trip. Duffy, our guide, handled it like a pro—calm, quick, and impressively prepared—calling for help and arranging an evacuation with extra crew to carry her across the rocky riverbed. Sammy, our driver, and Nic from operations took care of us on the ride back—safe, comfortable, and amused the whole way (thanks to Sammy’s stories). Meanwhile, the rest of my group had a blast on the river, enjoying Duffy Specials that only a lighter boat can pull off. All the way home, the boys raved about what a good time they had. And they’re already planning another trip, “but only with Duffy” 🤣 The next day, Sara from the office called to give us a credit for me and Vivi- approved by the owner Arnie- so we can come back next season. Once again, professional, kind, and efficient. And above all, human. These days, plenty of companies offer great service and great products—competition demands it. But real customer loyalty comes when people feel genuinely taken care of and safe—not just before we pay, but after, too. That’s what sets them apart, and why I’ll be coming back with my family very soon. Thank you for treating us so well! Oh, and the lunch offered was apparently delicious!

Aiden was our guide And he is an American Badass! He is everything you would expect a top notch guide to be like. We did the middle fork and straight out of the gate he had up paddling like a well oiled machine! We had so much fun and all laughed our ass off and had one hell of a time. Everyone who works for American Whitewater Expeditions was really nice and helpful. We will be back! Thank you!

Henningsen Lotus Park is a hidden gem located just 1.5 miles from Coloma's main road, offering a perfect place to rest and play. It features dog-friendly amenities, clean bathrooms, electric car hookups, picnic areas with barbecues, and a large grass field with walking paths. The park also provides river access for launching rafts and kayaks, as well as facilities for air pumps and ample parking space.
Super little spot, be sure to buy a pass and enjoy year round. River access and a nice field for kids and folks to play on and walk around. Good visitors keep dogs under leash control, pick up after them and maybe even say hi to others while walking.

Beautiful park right on the American River. Not a lot of shade. Either get there early to grab some, or bring a pop-up. The river has a strong current, so only strong swimmers should swim past the shore area. Lots of people in Kayaks and floating in tubes.

I come here every year and purchase the season pass. It's worth it.If its super hot out you'll get cooled down real quick because the water is nice n cold and clear I can see my feet thru the water.
Euneek 4 — Google review
The parking fee is $10 (as of 09/2025). The water is COLD & THE CURRENT IS VERY STRONG - DON'T UNDERESTIMATE IT. When water is released upstream, the water level changes FAST. There's a walking track & well-behaved dogs are welcome. There are quite a few permanent benches where you can rest & just watch the river. There's also a big grass field with 2 soccer fields painted in. There are permanent covered picnic tables & BBQs. I don't know if you can reserve the tables or soccer fields, or if it's first come, first served. The tables & walking path have NO LIGHTS⁶ in the evenings! Most visitors show up in Summer. It's more of a local spot as Fall approaches. There's a gas station a couple of miles away in Cool, and there's NO GAS STATION for quite a while, heading South towards civilization. In Cool is the Coloma Club (food & a bar). Not sure if the Coloma Club is adults only. Most other restaurants & pubs in the area have limited hours off-season, so check before you go.

Parking is $10. We paid in the museum and then walked back to the car to place the pass inside. Lots of historical sites to see. We walked everywhere and got 5 miles exercise by the end of 4 hours. The trail by the Catholic cemetery to the monument was too steep for me so we walked the pave road. The ice cream at the store was a nice way to end the day.

Oh my pumpkin spice! My malinois and shepinois came out looking (and smelling) like they spent the day at a luxurious spa. If Sara starts taking people, I’m in, lol. Anyone looking for a dog groomer should look no further than Sara’s Cool Critter Cuts. I’ve been taking my rescue husky to Sara’s ever since I brought him home eight years ago and I’ll never take him anywhere else. Now I have two huskies and take both of them to Sara for her skill and kindness towards animals. My rescue husky has lots of anxiety and my other husky is opinionated and vocal about his opinion- so they’re handful. Sara has the patience for working with each dog at the their own pace. My dogs always come back to me perfectly defluffed and extraordinarily clean, and I can be confident that they were well taken care of. Sara is kind, professional, and she is greatly skilled. Bring your pet to her shop and you won’t be disappointed!

Just got back from an amazing day with WhiteWater Adventure, and I couldn't be happier! We opted for the one-day trip on The South Fork American river Gorge Run, and it was the perfect way to celebrate my early birthday and the end of summer. The weather was beautiful, and the river was just the right level for some exciting rapids. Our guide was fantastic—super knowledgeable and made sure everyone felt comfortable in the raft. We were a bit nervous at first, but he put our mind at ease with his professionalism and expertise. We had a great mix of fun and adventure, with plenty of laughs along the way. The lunch buffet was delicious, and it was a nice break before we hit the water again for more rafting.
