The Fortaleza de São Miguel, built in 1576 by the Portuguese, is a historic fortress that now serves as a military museum and cultural hub. The Museu Central das Forcas Armadas inside the fortress showcases artifacts that tell the stories of Angola's past. Visitors can also enjoy an intimate environment with a rich wine list and dessert options. The fortress offers an observation deck with stunning views of Luanda and its bay.
One of the best history lessons I’ve experienced. If you are in Luanda, this place is a must. Being able to walk the grounds, read historical documents and catch some amazing views made the visit worthwhile.

A must to understand the recent history of this very young country. Make sure you have somebody that can explain the story and you can understand the different conflicts.

A must visit if in Luanda with great views and nice exhibits, you feel like you’re walking through time. This is where the big Angola flag sits

Interesting. Great views and a calm and safe place to walk around.
Rael M — Google review
Interesting place to visit. It has this coministic feel to it. A bit of military gear, but most attractive is the view towards the city and slums on the other side. Be aware that you can only pay with local bank cards, otherwise cash. Absolutelly worth attention.

Old Portuguese fort with a nice view over the city displaying different types of weapons used in Angola and some civil war loot. There's also a restaurant one level down on the backside.

The National Museum of Anthropology is situated across from the National Museum of Natural History and offers free entry with just a simple registration process. The museum boasts various exhibition halls showcasing a rich collection that delves into the history and life of Filipinos. While some found the animal specimen exhibition on the top floor out of place, others appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the Philippines.
Located in a gorgeous building. The entrance costs are 2,000 and the collection is set up very well. Friendly staff.

Could have a lot more information and dating of items. Some impressive masks. Nothing to travel out of your way for, but if you've got an hour to spare it's worth a visit
Peter G — Google review
Very interesting museum. This place is one of the former encampments where enslaved Africans were held prior to being transported to the Americas. There are many such places in Luanda. I was glad to see groups of schoolchildren there for tours.
Akil — Google review
Bit worn down and unfortunately only partly translated to English, this museum offer an ok display of different tools, instruments, weapons and other objects used by different tribes of Angola through history.
Bjørn — Google review
A bitter sweet moment. Happy this comprehensive homage to pre-colonial culture exists and has managed to preserve old relics. Sad, because such a vast subject deserves to be explored in greater depth. The museum feels like a scratch of the surface..

Belas Shopping is situated in the upscale Talatona district of Luanda, offering a serene and welcoming atmosphere for families and individuals to enjoy. As the country's first modern mall, it opened its doors in 2007, providing a vast commercial center with various shops including Shoprite. The mall also features an array of dining options from local to exotic cuisines.
Nice place. It's got everything you could ask for in a mall. Surprised, to be honest.
Danilo R — Google review
It's a decent place to spend an afternoon, you can find most of the things you need here. There's a good variety of shops and a big supermarket inside which is convenient. The main problem is how incredibly crowded it gets, especially on weekends, and finding a parking spot can be a real nightmare. The food court is just okay, mostly fast food options and nothing too exciting. The cinema is a plus though. It's fine for getting errands done but it feels a bit dated now.

Island
Ilha de Luanda, located on the Ilha de Luanda peninsula, offers an upscale beach experience along the Atlantic Ocean. The area is known for its tranquil seaside scene bordered by a strip of pine trees. While it's a popular spot with restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, there are ongoing construction projects that have transformed parts of the area into a concrete jungle.
The place is very good, still require a lot of improvement but in general all good.
Misha P — Google review
Nice beach but the sand was not clean… a lot small garbages all over!
Renny — Google review
Ilha e Luanda is the lovers nest. It says a song of Carlos Burity. A lot of restaurants, bars and night clubs. Unfortunately, there are a lot of construction transforming the little paradise into a concrete jungle. Beautiful white sand beaches in need of urgent attention. The police control is sometimes boring. You might be stopped several times. Although It is a safe place, you must pay attention.

This is the bridge, clover, that connects the Island of Luanda to the city of Luanda. This view was the winner of Luanda’s photography 2015 competition and shows how the capital is in constant construction from where it stands till the horizon that dives in the see. Great place. The beach is great. The water is great depending on the side of the beach.. The beach is often full during the weekend, therefore quality downgrades. However, restaurants are always the option. Restaurant prices and qualities are for all the pockets, from the the fair prices to the most expensive. If one goes to Luanda, this is a must to to visit, regardless of the quality!

I wanted to visit today, but it's closed even though it says it's open on the internet. The outside is completely neglected and it looks sad. I asked a lady behind the gate when it will open again and she simply emphasised that it will be closed for a long time. I hope it will be fixed and opened again soon.

I've been there with my 5 year old son, and we really enjoyed the show. There is a part dedicated to aquatic life and another one for land animals living in Angola. Each animal has a corresponding card with its natural specificities of diet and way of living. The collection of animals is quite, from squeletons to complete animals. There is also a collection of rocks and a special part dedicated to the Palanca Negra. Just go if you are not afraid of taxidermia...

Lookal Mar - Marisqueira is a renowned seafood restaurant in Luanda, offering stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. Guests can indulge in the freshest daily catch expertly prepared while enjoying the calming sea breeze and gentle waves. Its vibrant beachfront location provides a typical Luandan culinary experience with beautiful sunsets and a relaxed city atmosphere. Established in 2011, Lookal Mar is known for serving premium Angolan seafood sourced mainly from the local waters.
Sea food lovers and foodies, never miss this place in Luanda. Excellent by all means, food, flavour and taste, service and ambience. Qualitative and sumptuous, wide selection with live contained fishes, very well prepared and presented.
Sony S — Google review
The pros : recently renovated/repainted dining area. Same pleasant location on the beach as before, where you can benefit from a light breeze when your table is well located. Good selection of fresh seafood and fish. The cons : prices are really high, in particular for imported fish and seafood. Service was a bit irregular, despite the restaurant being mostly empty on a Saturday evening. Presentation of the dishes is very basic
Olivier B — Google review
Let me start off by saying the food is awesome! You can taste how fresh the seafood is. I truly think it was the best octopus I’ve ever had! The staff is lovely- we don’t speak Portuguese but they still tried very hard to understand us and they were always there is you needed another drink or help in general. My main issue was the bill. The price that one item was listed at when we ordered was mysteriously higher on the bill. They claimed that was always the price but luckily we had the menu page loaded on the phone to prove they changed it while we were dining. Also they give you a bread basket and a few slices of prosciutto when you sit down- we mistakingly thought it was included… it is not. The basket of bread is only 1,300 so no big deal but the prosciutto is 11,000 per plate (three pieces or so). That’s a bit high of a price to not explain it is not included. So definitely come here! The food is awesome. But make sure you check your bill and don’t eat anything brought to the table unless you’re willing to pay.

bright and normal even terrible environment with strange smell and wet&hot atmosphere the curry seafood is different from which we order from here but share in thw beach club.certainly different from the picture which is sad to me because which one i only want to eat,so never come again.Overall, the drink which composed of the coco ananash maracujá tastes well.
Pipi ( — Google review
Lovely place to eat fresh and tasty fish. Everything was very tasty. Fish was prepared for us and shown. Great view on the beach from there
Clément G — Google review
One of the most expensive restaurant in Luanda. When you go there for lunch or dinner expect to pay minimum 15000 kz per person. Location of the restaurant is great. You can have your food beside the Atlantic ocean. That's something to be consider for that price. Food is good here. They have separate sitting area for fish items and meat items. Most of the items are prepared for more than one person so I recommend to go there at least two people at a time.
Tareq M — Google review
Lookal Marisqueira at Ilha de Luanda is doubtlessly the best seafood restaurant in town. A vast variety to choose from. An enjoyable and cosy atmosphere with a superb ability on delivering tasty food. We had feijoada de marisco and a delicious steak. A fantastic service as well as a duteous, helpful and friendly staff. Seafood masters.

Quatro de Fevereiro Luanda International Airport is a major hub with a surprising number of international connections, serving Angolans abroad and workers in the oil, diamond, and reconstruction industries. Some carriers still operate routes based on Cold War alliances to Havana and Moscow. The airport offers free wifi, a supermarket (Spar), duty-free shops, cafeterias, and souvenir shops. It has comfortable seating areas for charging devices.
Good ambience. And smooth working of key arrivals and departures for people. Portuguese is the only official language, however some speak English as well. I would advise all to open and use Google Language translator when u arrive in Luanda, Angola

Shocking airport. Took about 30 mins for the bus to arrive to take us from plane to arrivals. Worst bit was being the only arrival, our bags took 90 mins from landing to appearing on the belt especially with like 8 staff standing there doing nothing. Free WiFi at the airport, but it’s super slow and disconnects often.

Don’t keep your $s visible to security check. If possible tell them that your are coming from offshore. You can’t compare Luanda airport with Dubai or Singapore, but it’s good for its standard or commuter rush. Some reasonable waiting areas, not so nice food and terrible security checks. Restaurant
Restaurante Café Del Mar is a top dining spot located on Ilha de Luanda, offering a bright ambiance with daytime sea views and intimate lighting at night. The restaurant boasts an African Chic concept and serves excellent gastronomy featuring a variety of national and international-inspired dishes. It was relaunched in 2016 after the original building was destroyed by sea waves in 2014, giving it a new character.
Café Del Mar is a delightful beachfront restaurant that offers a superb dining experience for families. The location is exceptional, providing both lounge and dining areas with stunning ocean views. A standout feature is the well-designed children’s playground, which keeps the little ones entertained, allowing parents to relax and enjoy their meals. The attention to detail in the décor creates a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff are attentive and friendly, ensuring prompt service even during busy times. The menu offers a variety of delicious dishes, with fresh seafood being a highlight. Overall, Café Del Mar is an excellent choice for families seeking a combination of good food, a welcoming environment, and child-friendly amenities in Luanda.

Beautiful atmosphere! Drinks were pretty good. Meals are okay. If you like to have a well done meat, you need to say well well done. Otherwise it may be medium for your taste. Beach and restaurant concept that I like it. However, there are some people try to sell something on the beach. They shouldn’t be sell something when we try to sunbathe. They just stare at you all the time for selling something. That I don’t like. Also if you use 1 sunbed just for sitting at the beach you still have to pay so keep that also in mind. For the hotel transfer, because hotel transfer forget to arrange our transfer, they drove us to hotel, I appreciate that. Generally it was a beautiful experience, thank you for that.
Eda — Google review
I recently visited a lovely café Del Mar, located right by the ocean, and I must say it was a wonderful experience. The place is clean, what barely could be found in Angola, and well-maintained, with a fresh sea breeze and a relaxing atmosphere that makes you want to stay longer. The view alone is worth the visit – watching the waves while sipping a drink is pure joy. The food was delicious and well-balanced in flavor – not too heavy. Surprisingly they serve a fresh tea, for me it's a good sign. The service was good – the staff were attentive and genuinely friendly. All in all, it’s a hidden gem by the ocean that combines a great location, good food, and a welcoming team. I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for a cozy and memorable dining experience.

The Museu da Moeda in Luanda is a captivating Currency Museum that showcases the fascinating evolution of money in Angola, from the use of Zimbo to the introduction of Kwanza. Situated on the outskirts of Luanda, this museum stands out as a significant cultural landmark in the Angolan capital. Its remarkable infrastructure and well-curated exhibitions offer visitors a chronological journey through the history of Angolan currency, intricately intertwined with the country's past.
Very good museum. I really like the architecture of this museum. From the outside it looks like a shiny monument, but once you walk next to it there are steps leading down into the museum. The museum was clean and very well organized. Most of the exhibits are very informative. There’s a very cool exhibit that allows you to pick up a gold bar, but you have to insert your hands into the two security holes. There were 3 or 4 school bus trips when I visited the museum and the museum staff appeared to have the groups well organized.

Restaurante Churrascaria Nandinhos is a tiny eatery located in the heart of Kinaxixi, known for serving the finest grilled chicken in Luanda. Despite its small size, it's always packed with locals and visitors alike. The restaurant is renowned for its delectable offerings, particularly the grilled chicken and chocolate cake prepared by two talented Portuguese cooks.
Very good taste. Chocolate cake was also delicious along with chicken and lamb. Perfectly cooked and reasonably priced.
Muhammad K — Google review
This restaurant is renowned for serving some of the best grilled chicken in town. If you decide to visit during lunchtime, be prepared for a line - it’s quite popular, and the wait can be significant. To avoid the hassle, consider going at a different time. We arrived before 12:30pm and we were served immediately. As for the service, it was satisfactory. You’ll get exactly what you order without any surprises, and the prices are reasonable for the quality of food you receive. Overall, it’s a solid choice if you’re craving grilled chicken, but plan your visit accordingly to make the most of your experience!

This restaurant has the best grilled chicken in the city! The service though is not the great, and there is usually a long wait time. There is a good selection, but stick with the chicken. Nice desert options that are pre- made. Drink selection is good.

Tasty chicken, but looks like it is cooking in old oil, or cleanness in the kitchen has some problems. I eat in this place two times, and after both of them i have stomach problems, be careful.

very nice grilled chicken place, popular among the locals especially the office crowd. No english menu but I could make out some of the items. Choose between rice, fries or salad or all. Service was a little slow.

Authentic hole in the wall specializing in Portuguese churrasco (grilled chicken). Please excuse the owner as she will start shouting at staff randomly. (they deserve it) Chocolate cake is a must!

A must go spot for chicken and chocolate cake! Two sweet Portuguese ladies cooking up good food. Be ready to order in Portuguese only place- I missed out on batata frites even though I asked in Portuguese but they maybe said something like I can’t have with half chicken- not sure. But food is delicious and clean.

Jango Veleiro is a vibrant hotspot in Luanda, perfect for those looking to enjoy an exciting night out on Fridays and Saturdays. With live kizomba music filling the air from 10 PM until midnight, followed by a DJ spinning a mix of Brazilian and international tunes, it’s an experience that promises to keep you dancing. This expansive restaurant/disco bar/pub offers various areas including a lively bar, dining space, and even beach chairs for relaxation.
One of the best bars I have seen atleast location per se ! Service is nice but you must know some Portuguese for communication with the friendly staff who always takes care of you . Just had Pizza and fried fish was great The Beer Jug was great bargain and perfect time pass to enjoy the view and Selena time.. The condiments “Zinguba “ and fried garlic was perfect with the beer… Ask for someone who speak English to convey your self or CHATGPT it!!! Tip Generously!!!

Jango Veleiro is a good restaurant by the island and is much more affordable than other beach clubs down the road. The place is not fancy or anything, but it's huge with plenty of seating available, the menu is extensive with great options of fish/seafood, meat, chicken, vegetarian, burgers, pizza and snacks. Beer was always served cold and service was ok. It took a while for them to prepare the food, but it was all delicious. Recommend their seafood platter, which is huge and has everything from shrimps, lobster, crab, fish, mussels, rice, fries and sauces. It's easily shareable by 2 or 3 people. Sunset views are awesome and the great thing is that they are open 24/7. They also accept credit cards. Not all staff speak English, but communication was not a problem. Would definitely come back.

I really like the place, very comfortable and good price. The place have different area (bar, restaurant, dancing area and beach chairs/tables). Attention was good but slow, don’t be in a hurry if you come here, sunset was lovely. The private beach (which you can access free) was good to spend the day but it was a little dirty and I didn’t see any staff cleaning or taking care of, they offer you shower and toilets for your confort. I probably will go back again !

Was a good day out with the kids. The one thing I like about the park is the fact is not too big and you are able to monitor the kids from the comfort of your chair. Then equipment remains in good condition as well as the supporting infrastructure. I do give 5🌟for the experience of the day, but I noticed that they only have the main fast food and bar opened, and the remaining restaurants are all closed limiting your selection of food offering and for that I give 2🌟. I also noticed that they are doing some expansion/renovation work on the park but could not see what exactly what it was.

(Translated by Google) The installation of the first banking establishment in Angola dates back to 1865 and began operating in August of the same year. It was a branch of Banco Nacional Ultramarino, authorized to establish itself in Luanda, with the notes issued by this Bank becoming the national currency. The foundations were laid for the beginning of banking activities in Angola. However, the development of this process was turbulent. The lack of control over monetary issuance led to an unsustainable financial situation in the colony and, to overcome this situation, the colonial authorities created a Currency Board that began a process of monetary reform whose first action was the creation of an independent issuing bank. , the “Bank of Angola”. The delegation of the then Bank of Angola began to operate, in fact, in Angola, in an attempt to perpetuate the colonial presence in the national territory. However, our Bank did not always function in this way. On August 14, 1926, when the Bank of Angola was created, its headquarters were located in Lisbon to “avoid local influences and to be more directly supervised by the Minister of Colonies”. Until 1957, Banco de Angola held exclusive banking operations in Angola, when Banco Comercial de Angola appeared on the market, which was strictly under Angolan law. Subsequently, Banco de Angola, which in addition to holding the exclusive right to issue banknotes also carried out banking commerce, began to count on “competition” from five more commercial banks (Banco Comercial de Angola, Banco de Crédito Comercial and Industrial, Banco Totta Standard de Angola, Banco Pinto & Sotto Mayor and Banco Inter Unido) as well as four credit establishments (Instituto de Crédito de Angola, Banco de Fomento Nacional, Caixa de Crédito Agro-Pecuária e Pescas and Montepio de Angola) . Half a century after its creation, on the eve of national independence, there was a serious political and economic crisis, with a strong impact on bank activity, worsened by the massive flight of banking staff and capital, which put the entire system at risk. of imminent bankruptcy. It was in this context that, on August 14, 1975, the competent State bodies intervened in the banks, with the replacement of administrations, to prevent the collapse of the entire monetary and financial system. Given the situation experienced at the time, and given the complexity of the action, the role played by bank workers, who protected the facilities and archives and kept the doors of all banks open to the public, was relevant. Just over a year later, within the framework of the political-economic transformations that were taking place and taking into account the importance of the country's monetary and financial system, the Government confiscated the assets and liabilities of the Angola Department of the Bank of Angola and created the National Bank of Angola (BNA) - Law No. 69/76, published in the Official Gazette No. 266 – 1st Series of 10 November 1976, also approving the respective Organic Law, which assigned the functions of Central Bank, Issuing Bank, Treasury and Banking Commerce to the BNA, subordinate to the Ministry of Finance. At the same time, Law No. 70/76 confiscated the Banco Comercial de Angola and created the Banco Popular de Angola, acting mainly as a bank for capturing individual savings. From the beginning of 1978, banking activities began to be carried out exclusively by State banks. According to Law No. 4/78 of 25 February, private banking institutions could only carry out acts that fell within the “respective closure process”, which is why, gradually, private commercial banks were formally closed, which facilitated the extension of the BNA branch network throughout the national territory. Insurance activity was the responsibility of a single state company, the National Insurance Company of Angola (ENSA), also established in 1978.

Worst rental car ever. Took 3 hours to rent a car. Took 3 hours to return the car. The car had expired an insurance paper and I had to beg police to let me go. Worth a visit! Stay for sunset and - at least midweek - you'll most likely have the beach and all of the shipwrecks to yourself. Visited May 27, 2022.
English M — Google review
I was on this beach in December 2023 and there is nothing left to see. Nothing remains of the shipwrecks. All of them were pulled ashore and the steel was used by the inhabitants of a nearby village or sold for scrap. The beach is full of small rowing boats and the last bits of scrap metal. There is no longer a trace of the ship graveyard :/

(Translated by Google) The ship graveyard was a beach where the attraction was a series of abandoned ships in the surf zone, practically on the sand. Today, these ships have been dismantled and cut up, leaving only small remains, so it no longer represents any attraction. However, the beach is long and the sand vast. It's almost always deserted, so for those who enjoy peace and freedom, there's a beach here. No entanto, a praia é londa e o areal vasto.
