Lake
Lake Naivasha, a 13-kilometer freshwater lake located in the Great Rift Valley, is a serene paradise just a 90-minute drive from Nairobi. Surrounded by papyrus and forests, it offers ample birdlife and stunning natural beauty. The area boasts soaring fever trees, hippos in the shallows, and the haunting cry of the fish eagle. With its own microclimate, Lake Naivasha feels distinctly different from other parts of Kenya.
We extended our trip from Masai Mara just to visit Lake Naivasha—and it was totally worth it! The lake is beautiful, with plenty of birdlife, hippos, and a peaceful atmosphere. The boat ride was the highlight, followed by a guided nature walk where we saw zebras, giraffes, and impalas up close—all herbivores, so it’s completely safe to walk around. A perfect spot for nature lovers and anyone who enjoys boat rides on a scenic freshwater lake!
Karthikeyan L — Google review
Lake Naivasha is an absolutely stunning destination and a must-visit when in Kenya. The lake itself is vast and very scenic, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and rich wildlife. The boating experience was excellent—calm waters, fresh air, and a chance to truly appreciate the size and beauty of the lake. One of the highlights was spotting a wide range of bird species. From majestic fish eagles to colorful kingfishers, the variety of birds makes it a paradise for bird lovers. Another unforgettable moment was seeing hippos resting in the water, which added to the excitement of the trip. Crescent Island is another gem that should not be missed along with the boating tour. Walking among freely roaming animals like zebras and giraffes in such a serene environment is a truly unique experience. The island also offers great viewpoints for photography and breathtaking views of the lake. Overall, Lake Naivasha is a perfect mix of tranquility, wildlife, and adventure. Highly recommended for nature lovers, bird watchers, and anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful yet memorable experience.
Uva P — Google review
Beautiful lake, lots of birdlife to watch… 20 USD for a 1 hr boat ride seems a bit on the higher side… but the journey is scenic with sights of hippos, wilderbeest, zebra, flamingoes, pelicans etc
Soikat P — Google review
A beautiful lake, and an island where they film the movie ‘ out of Africa ‘ . The scenary is breath taking, the boat ride on the lake and around the island is just wonderful. See many wild life including hippo
Kevin K — Google review
I would not go out of my way to go here. It was okay but only if you happen to be going that way or do not plan to visit any of the big parks to see wildlife. It’s nice to take a walk if you’re a tourist and have been on game drives. We got dropped off, walked around and then ended up waiting almost 45 minutes for a boat ride back, so do not go here if you are in a hurry to get somewhere after. If we had not had a private driver waiting for us who got a boat to come get us then I’m afraid we may have been stuck there.
Serena L — Google review
Water based park with lots of birds and hippos. Perfect for a day trip from Nairobi or to break up a larger safari and stopover in between areas. Birding is a highlight with lots of fish eagles. There are boat operators that throw small fish while on the lake compelling the fish eagles to swoop down and capture the fish. This is a highlight and a must. You can also boat on the lake up close to the hippos. On the shore there are giraffes zebras waterbuck and ostriches. Big animals like lions and elephants don’t really exist here but come for the birds and hippos.
Avrom W — Google review
Feel good place.. lots of calmness around the lake.. You can enjoy the view of variety of birds and hippos..
Padmaja S — Google review
The boat ride in the lake Naivasha was superb. 15 minutes one way (total 30inutes) and around 30 minutes spotting the animal. Memorable experience. Spotted quite a few number of animals in the land and water near Crescent Island including water buck, zebra, hippo, pelican, eagle, wilderbeast etc and various other birds. The water in the lake clear and blue and light waves make the boat dance. Life jackets are provided as safety precaution. Highly recommended. The better option is to go for a trip in Crescent Island where tourists are given a walking experience with various herbivorous animals in the island at an additional cost of 60 USD per person.

Crescent Island Game Sanctuary, also known as Naivasha's best-kept secret, is a stunning wildlife reserve situated on a peninsula in Lake Naivasha. Accessible only by boat, it offers an opportunity to walk among various animals such as giraffes, zebras, hippos, and pelicans. The sanctuary is renowned for its rich birdlife and diverse wildlife population including zebra, buffalo, impala, and gazelle.
If you're heading back from the Masai Mara, don't miss the opportunity to make a small but unforgettable detour to Crescent Island Game Sanctuary. What makes Crescent Island truly special is that you walk among the animals. No safari jeeps, no barriers - just you, the wildlife, and the stunning landscapes of Lake Naivasha with Mount Longonot providing a serene backdrop. It's a unique opportunity to feel immersed in the environment while still being safe and guided. You’ll encounter animals usually seen only from a distance in a vehicle, the sanctuary is teeming with life such as Zebras, Gazelles, Impalas, Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Giraffes, Monkeys. Bird lovers will also be delighted. The boat ride across Lake Naivasha is a highlight in itself—where pelicans glide, African fish eagles swoop for their catch, and hippos lazily pop up near the boat, offering an eye-opening and peaceful experience that contrasts with the typical safari rush. Crescent Island may not be as well-known as Kenya’s big parks, but it offers something different - intimacy, tranquility, and a chance to truly connect with wildlife on foot.
Eunice E — Google review
It was incredible to be so up close and personal with some of Kenya’s most beautiful animals - wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, gazelles, and hippos. Our guide, George, was great. Very knowledgeable about the best places to view the wildlife.
Makenzie P — Google review
Crescent Island on Lake Naivasha is a true gem, offering a unique and unforgettable experience. I hadn't realized it was a game sanctuary until I arrived, which made the visit an even more pleasant surprise. The park entrance fee for a non-resident adult is KSh 4,000, while children (ages 5-15) pay KSh 2,000. The island gets its name from its crescent moon shape, and it's the perfect setting for a walking safari. The experience is incredible because you can get remarkably close to the wildlife on foot. My most memorable encounters were at the beginning of the walk with a herd of majestic giraffes and, at the end, seeing a hippo grazing by the island's shore. Along the way, we also spotted ostriches, waterbucks, zebras, monkeys, various antelope species, and a great variety of birds. After the safari, we stopped at a charming café at the end of the walking trail. It was a great spot to relax and refuel. I highly recommend their delicious homemade gelato. They also offer a selection of drinks, coffee, beer, and snacks. Crescent Island is a must-visit for anyone looking for a more intimate and peaceful wildlife experience away from the traditional safari crowds.
Insos S — Google review
Where the lake kisses the sky and the wind whispers through the acacia trees, Crescent Island welcomes you into a world where nature walks beside you. This peaceful sanctuary in the heart of Lake Naivasha offers something rare — the chance to stroll freely among Kenya’s gentle wildlife. With no barriers or vehicles, you're part of the landscape, not just a visitor. Our guide, Bridget, brought the island to life with her warmth, knowledge, and storytelling. She patiently explained the behavior of the animals, answered our many questions, and even helped us capture some stunning photos along the way. We were lucky to spot a variety of wildlife including giraffes, zebras, monkeys, wildebeest, and an ostrich. But the most touching moment was seeing a baby giraffe nestled beside its mother — a quiet, graceful scene that felt like something out of a nature documentary. Crescent Island is more than just a tour; it’s a gentle escape into the rhythm of the wild. Whether you’re a nature lover, a photographer, or simply looking for peace, this place will stay with you long after you leave. And if you can, ask for Bridget — she truly makes the journey unforgettable.
Honest R — Google review
Crescent Island in Lake Naivasha is a truly unique and unforgettable experience. The island has an interesting history, as it was originally created as a filming location for the movie Out of Africa. True to its name, the island is shaped like a crescent, giving it a distinctive charm and making it an ideal spot for nature walks and wildlife viewing. The highlight of visiting Crescent Island is being able to walk freely among the animals in their natural habitat. It feels like stepping into an open-air wildlife sanctuary without fences. We were lucky to see giraffes, including a baby giraffe, as well as many zebras grazing peacefully around us. Hippos can also be spotted near the water, and we even came across an ostrich during our walk, which made the experience even more memorable. The walk is very enjoyable and can be done at your own pace, but guides are available if you’d like more insights into the wildlife and history of the island. The entry charges are USD 33 or KSH 4000 for adult non-residents, which feels well worth it for such a unique and close-to-nature experience. Crescent Island is definitely a must-visit if you are exploring Lake Naivasha. It’s a perfect mix of serenity, adventure, and wildlife encounters that you won’t forget.
Uva P — Google review
Very beautiful and an amazing experience to be on an island surrounded by so much wildlife. After game drives, it's really magical to walk alongside the animals.
Sunny A — Google review
Crescent Island is not a zoo. And if you just want to tick things off your list like walking up to majestic and beautiful animals for a photo, maybe you should give this a miss. But if you love and respect wildlife, this is a must visit. No other place offers this kind of an awe inspiring experience. A guide is not compulsory, but I highly recommend it. We went on a lovely walk across the island with Faith who was not just a treasure trove of knowledge, but peppered our conversations with nuggets of invaluable perspective on the complex and beautiful relationship between animals, nature, and us human beings. An absolute delight. And I’m trying to hide this at the end of the review so that the entitled and lazy might miss it - but yes, you do go up to and walk with giraffes, zebras, gazelles, wildebeest and more. Please be respectful to them, though. And offer kudos and thanks to the lovely people who keep this place going.
Shiladitya C — Google review
Amazing experience! We were not sure what to expect, but everything was done with great respect for the animals. Our guide, Fortune, was one of the kindest people we have ever met – so knowledgeable and familiar with the area. Highly recommended! 🌿🦓🦒 Also after the walk, there is an amazing café with really tasty food. The service is fast, and both the food and drinks are delicious!

Located about 35 kilometers from Naivasha Municipality, Lake Oloiden is a picturesque and shallow lake renowned for its diverse wildlife and stunning scenery. It's a popular spot for birdwatching, particularly flamingos attracted to the shallow waters and abundant algae. The Oloiden Flamingo Camp offers an exceptional camping experience with comfortable and immaculately clean tents, as well as affordable beautiful cottages. Guests can enjoy activities such as boat rides with breathtaking views and cycling.
Lake Oloiden Flamingo Campsite. Would highly recommend for a serene retreat. Warm reception. Warm staff. Well maintained grounds. Nice clean showers and kitchen facilities. Amazing views by the lake. Perfect getaway.
Kibe G — Google review
Lake Oloiden Flamingo Camp is a charming retreat ideal for escaping the city’s bustle. The drive there can be a bit challenging, with a bumpy road riddled with potholes, but the destination makes up for the journey. The camp is peaceful and relaxed, offering a perfect setting for quiet reflection and nighttime photography, especially with the hippos that roam the area after dark. Onsite, there is a bar and restaurant; however, the vegetarian options are somewhat limited. The newly constructed private rooms are comfortable and intimate, accommodating two guests. Overall, it’s a tranquil haven with a few quirks that add to its rustic charm.

Almost my second home. Lake Oloiden is a perfect haven for a weekend getaway outside the hassle and buckle of the city. The cottages and the campsite are just beside the lake. A great sunrise and cozy spaces, great food. Would definitely recommend.

We had an amazing experience hosting our team building event at Lake Oloiden Flamingo Camp. The camping tents were top-notch—spacious, comfortable, and well-maintained. The location itself is stunning, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and serene views of the lake. The atmosphere was perfect for bonding and relaxation. We truly appreciate the hospitality and would highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for a unique getaway. Looking forward to hosting more Team Buildings at the facility.

The kids and I enjoyed ourselves so much at Lk Oloiden Flamingo camp. Clean and neat campsite, very helpful workers who helped us set up our tents and light the bonfire. Amazing security guy, the kids enjoyed going to him for help with monkeys😂. We ordered some food from their restaurant and the portions were big. I will come back here Majaliwa.

Sanctuary Farm House is a must-visit gem nestled in the heart of Naivasha, where culinary excellence meets thrilling wildlife experiences. Guests can savor exquisite meals crafted from fresh, locally sourced ingredients at the charming boutique restaurant, all while enjoying picturesque views of tranquil waters and lush gardens. For those seeking a touch of adventure and romance, a nighttime game drive through the Oserengoni Wildlife Sanctuary offers an enchanting opportunity to witness nature's beauty illuminated by moonlight.
We have stayed several times in Sanctuary Farm and we love the place. The Yellow house is a real treat. Large rooms with a high ceiling, great interior design, attention to details in all frontiers. From the cutlery, cups, all the kitchen equipment, firewood and all the necessities to make the stay very comfortable. Sitting on the veranda, having dinner while wildlife is on the lawn, grazing peacefully is unreal. The yellow house is done beautifully, retaining the old style while having all the modern comforts. We'll definitely be back soon.

Would highly recommend such a peaceful oasis - the cottage is very sweet and beautifully presented and the zebras, water buck and impala that surround the gardens make it a very magical place. There is also a brilliant restaurant on the farm a very short walk away that made all the difference not having to drive anywhere - already planning our return!

Absolutely incredible! Visiting has been one of the best experiences of my life. I had no idea the wildlife would be so close. The grounds are perfectly serene and instantly leave you feeling calm and connected. From meandering wildlife to the beautiful lake to the mist-covered mountains in the background, Sanctuary Farm has it all. Horseback riding next to zebras and giraffes was truly a bucket list item (I even got to feed a baby zebra!) The Kijiko restaurant is also fantastic! I've tried nearly everything on the menu and have loved every single dish. There's something surreal about fine dining engulfed by wildlife. Can't recommend Sanctuary Farm enough.
Alexis I — Google review
Beautiful sceneic camping site on Naivasha Lake with wild Zebras, Impala, Buffalo and Hippos right outside you tent! They have a cosy little restaurant with a continental menu and offer horse riding and boat trips.
Tajugn S — Google review
Lovely little stay in "Watch Tower" at Sanctuary Farm. Loved that we could see so many animals right outside our windows. The outdoor showers were hot enough for a chilly night, and it was so nice to have a fire already laid in the firepit. The bed is a little small, but cozy and comfortable. And the food at the restaurant was awesome!
Abby B — Google review
A peaceful getaway where wildlife roams freely and nature feels untouched. Waking up to zebras grazing outside your window is surreal, and the lake views are breathtaking. Perfect mix of relaxation, adventure, and authentic African charm.” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
NANCY O — Google review
We had a fantastic stay for one week at the Watch Tower, a very unusual accommodation. It’s kinda tidy but very functional. And it’s very fun to be right in the middle of the farm with zebras, giraffes, impalas and wild beasts passing by just in front of our windows and terrace. We felt immersed in the nature. The farm proposed also great activities such as having a boat trip in the daytime to see the hippos bathing. And a night game drive to see the hyenas and hippos going out to eat. Last but not least, the staff is fantastic. Florence came every morning to do the dishes and cleaning. And the manager Grace was so helpful and always available by phone or text messages to arrange activities and room service. Thank for having us!

Crescent Island is a captivating destination nestled on the shores of Lake Naivasha, accessible by a scenic boat ride. This unique peninsula offers an incredible opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, where you can enjoy picnics while sharing your meal with friendly wildlife like zebras and giraffes. The island serves as a sanctuary for various animals and birds, making it a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers alike.
My visit to Crescent Island was an unforgettable experience, made even more special by our incredible guide, Kevin. From the moment we arrived, it was clear we were in for a treat. The island, surrounded by the tranquil waters of Lake Naivasha, is a haven of natural beauty and abundant wildlife, and exploring it on foot was a truly magical adventure. Kevin’s passion and knowledge were evident from the start. He greeted us warmly and immediately set the tone for an engaging and informative walk. As we made our way through the picturesque landscape, Kevin shared fascinating insights about the island's ecosystem, its history, and the diverse wildlife that calls it home. His enthusiasm was infectious, and it felt like we were exploring the island with a friend who genuinely cared about our experience. The wildlife sightings were incredible! We got up close to zebras, giraffes, and waterbucks, all of which roam freely on the island. Walking alongside these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, with no barriers, was an awe-inspiring experience. Kevin’s sharp eyes ensured we didn’t miss a thing—he pointed out hidden animals, unique plants, and even some vibrant bird species that added to the charm of the walk. The views from the island are breathtaking. The expansive lake, dotted with floating water lilies, created a serene backdrop to our adventure. Kevin also led us to several scenic spots where we could take in the panoramic vistas and snap some amazing photos. His thoughtful pacing of the walk made it enjoyable for everyone, with plenty of time to appreciate the surroundings and soak in the tranquility. What stood out most about Kevin was his genuine care for the environment and his dedication to conservation. He emphasized the importance of protecting this unique ecosystem and inspired us to think more deeply about our relationship with nature. It was refreshing to learn from someone so passionate and committed to preserving this beautiful sanctuary for future generations. The entire experience was seamless, from the well-organized arrival to the thoughtful way Kevin ensured everyone felt comfortable and engaged throughout the walk. His warmth, expertise, and storytelling skills made this a highlight of our trip to Lake Naivasha. I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Crescent Island for anyone looking to connect with nature in an intimate and meaningful way. And if you’re lucky enough to have Kevin as your guide, you’re in for an exceptional experience that you’ll treasure forever. Thank you, Kevin, and Crescent Island, for a day that exceeded all expectations!

If you want to see the animals up close, rent a boat ride around the island. In 2 hours you can see a lot of hippos, giraffes, waterbucks etc. Do it in the afternoon, so you can see a lot of active animals, and a sunset on top of it. There are a lot of hippos around, so dont swim

The lake was cool. We reserved boat rides to crescent island through the resort. One of our two boats for our party left us stranded on the island for 30 minutes. The boat guy wouldn’t answer his phone and had a lame excuse for not being there on time. Other than that, the island was awesome.

Lake Naivasha is conveniently located just a short distance from Nairobi, making it easily accessible via the Old Naivasha Road and the C88. Travel options include matatus, privately owned minibuses that can accommodate small groups of people. The area offers a variety of wildlife experiences, including close-up encounters with friendly giraffes and other grazing animals, as well as opportunities to observe flamingos, pelicans, Egyptian geese, and other beautiful birds.
Lake Naivasha in Kenya is a truly magical destination, offering a serene and unforgettable experience. The calm waters and surrounding scenery create the perfect backdrop for a peaceful escape into nature. We took a guided boat tour, and it was nothing short of amazing. In the early morning, we were lucky enough to see hippos being fed, which was both thrilling and humbling to witness. At one point, our guide bought a few fish from the fishermen, and I was puzzled at first about what he was planning to do with them. To my delight, they were for the eagles! He whistled with his fingers and threw the fish into the lake, and soon the mother eagle swooped down, followed by the father eagle. It was absolutely mesmerizing to watch these majestic birds in action. The tour lasted a little over an hour, and seeing the animals in their natural habitat rather than a zoo brought such peace and joy. Lake Naivasha is a place where nature truly comes alive, and it’s a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Kenya!

Visiting Lake Naivasha was an unforgettable experience. The boat ride on the lake and seeing hippos up close, along with the variety of bird species, was amazing. What made it even more unique was walking on foot among wildlife – spotting giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, gazelles, hippos, and even buffalos from such a close distance gave me a truly special and surreal feeling. A one-of-a-kind experience that I’ll never forget.

Lake Naivasha – A Tranquil Rift Valley Gem Lake Naivasha, located in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley at about 1,884 meters (6,181 feet) above sea level, is a beautiful freshwater lake known for its serene environment, rich biodiversity, and accessibility from Nairobi (just around 90 km away). It's one of the few freshwater lakes in the Rift Valley, and its name is derived from the Maasai word Naiposha, meaning "rough water"—a reference to the lake's sudden storms. --- 🌿 Natural Beauty and Wildlife Surrounded by papyrus swamps, acacia woodlands, and flower farms, Lake Naivasha is a haven for nature lovers and bird watchers. The lake supports over 400 bird species, including: African fish eagles Jacanas Kingfishers Herons Pelicans It’s also home to hippos, which are often seen lounging in the water or grazing on nearby grasslands. You might spot giraffes, zebras, and antelopes in the surrounding areas, especially in the nearby Crescent Island Sanctuary. --- 🛶 Top Activities to Enjoy Boat rides: Glide across the lake to spot hippos and birds up close. Crescent Island Game Sanctuary: A walk-through sanctuary offering up-close animal encounters in a predator-free environment. Hell’s Gate National Park (nearby): A dramatic gorge with geothermal activity and opportunities for biking, rock climbing, and hiking. Crater Lake Game Sanctuary: A lesser-known but beautiful green volcanic crater lake with hiking trails and wildlife. --- 🏨 Accommodation and Access There are various lodges and resorts around the lake, from budget to luxury (like Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge or Enashipai Resort). The area is perfect for a weekend getaway or part of a longer safari itinerary. It's about a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from Nairobi via the scenic Nairobi–Nakuru highway. --- ⚠️ Travel Tips Bring binoculars for birdwatching. Sunrise and sunset are magical times for boat rides. The weather is mild, but sudden showers are common. Stay cautious around hippos—they’re dangerous despite their calm appearance. --- Verdict: Lake Naivasha is a must-visit for those wanting a peaceful retreat into nature with a balance of relaxation, adventure, and wildlife in one of Kenya’s most accessible Rift Valley destinations.

Karagita Beach is a popular spot for launching boat trips on Lake Naivasha, drawing in many travelers, especially locals, particularly on weekends. It offers stunning views of the lake and provides an opportunity to interact with the local community. Visitors highly recommend it for its fair prices and hands-on lifeguards during boat rides. The beach's serene location makes it ideal for leisurely boat rides on Lake Naivasha in Nakuru County.
Free access, safe parking space with lots to be explored. Affordable boat rides, fresh fish from the lake.

Karagita Beach is more of a functional lakeside spot than a relaxing getaway. There’s no proper space to walk or sit and unwind, but it’s a great place for freshly prepared fish from the various vendors around. If you're looking for an affordable boat ride, this is a good place to go! It is also easily accessible via public transport from town.

Although it's not a proper lake beach in the sense one may think - no swimming possible nor spaces to sit / lay on the beach, this place is a lively spot to spend a few hours in a relaxed African atmosphere. Choose your freshly fished fish and have it grilled, accompanied with a drink. Don't expect anything luxurious or posh: it's very basic. Most important, this beach is the main departure point for Crescent Island and hippo-watching boat trips

The fish here is fresh and alot. You can decide to have it fried for you and eat on site. Great view of the lake, park and relax or buy and take off.

Tucked away on the western shores of Lake Naivasha, The Ranch House Bistro is a delightful boutique restaurant that promises an enchanting escape. Overlooking the serene waters of Lake Oloiden, this charming eatery features a lush garden and a vibrant pea-green lawn where guests can savor fresh dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients. While service may vary at times, the breathtaking location makes it worth every moment.
The restaurant is located on the shore of Lake Naivasha therefore the drive there is quite scenic. I personally didn't get to enjoy their outdoor space since it was raining when I went there. However everything else was 10/10. The food was delicious and the portions were quite reasonable. The service from the staff was really good. I look forward to going back on a sunny day so I can enjoy the outdoors space.

Fancy some chewy Lambchops? Stale chips? Mediocre cheeseburger you could almost definitely make at home? This is the place to be! You could be so kind, sweet & positive to the waiter but they’ll still get your order wrong & serve you blandly. Wrong drink because he doesn’t listen properly/poor attention! Can’t describe the dishes descriptively or offer suggestions - whatever you ask “yeah it’s good” will be reciprocated. Apart from the dull food - the ambience is surreal! It’s exudes tranquility! Peaceful, quiet crowd & no music! - which is excellent for a location like this. Also loved how another customer came with their poodle, being dog friendly is such a great thing for a restaurant! Good parking & appreciate the woman-waitress who put my friend’s phone on charge. Nonetheless will come back again in a few months & try something else!

Was here in December. Great atmosphere and ambiance. Beautiful view over the lake. Food was good, some was amazing and some was just OK. I will update next time we visit. The service was top, and the bartender was very helpful with my request and went above and beyond! He gets 5 stars easily! Will come back for sure.

Was so good had to go back the following day :) Cosy and tranquil setting with stunning lake views. Makes for a perfect space to relax ,enjoy nature and a delicious meal. Amazing food on offer, have to call out their beef burger 👌👌👌👌👌. Cocktails also on point. Service was fast and friendly. Huge thanks to Elizabeth for taking such great care of us. Definitely one of the best in Naivasha.

Fisherman's Camp is a charming and rustic retreat nestled on the shores of Lake Naivasha in Kenya's Great Rift Valley. The camp offers breathtaking views of the lake and its picturesque surroundings, making it a popular choice for travelers seeking tranquility amidst nature. The accommodation provides comfort and relaxation, with clean and well-maintained houses that overlook the stunning lake.
Have been here twice for food. Best Tilapia I've ever had! Expect to wait around 2h for the food. It's absolutely worth the wait and the place is excellent, particularly in the evening when you can relax and watch the hippos right outside. This is not a speedy dining experience but if you come expecting that, you can relax and enjoy the beautiful spot uniquely close to the local wildlife!

We arrived here with no booking and there were lodges available. Very easy process and the lodges are great and comfortable. Nature is incredible, the location is TOP! Lots of birds and hippos around. Super peaceful. Simon, the local guide gave us an amazing tour of Lake Crater (which I highly recommend!) it was a wonderful boat ride, nature walk and delicious lunch. For all the Birders: Simon is incredibly knowledgeable, and eager to share the love for birds. Highly recommend!

Great place for camping especially by the lakeside. Serene, with wild life views. Helpful & kind staff. Hot water available for showers and in some taps. Clean common places- washroom, bathrooms & sinks.

What a disappointment. This was my childhood ‘must visit’ but now on the ‘never again’ list. The location remains magical but otherwise it’s a hovel. The camp & restaurant are separate businesses. We arrived at 1900hrs to a restaurant with only 3 items out of 30 available. And more disappointingly 5 beers to share amongst us. All but 3 spirit bottles on the shelves were empty & the following morning at breakfast we discovered why. The bar man, who doubled up as the waiter was drunk to the point where he couldn’t climb stairs or even talk. The kitchen was being invaded by monkeys around him so there was no chance we were staying for breakfast. In fact this will be my last time here. Hear this Agnes & hear it loud. You’ve lost a loyal customer. And before you rant about customers, I own 2 restaurants so know a little bit about hospitality
Review A — Google review
We camped for two days and the staff was helpful throughout our stay. As other reviewers noted the food takes a while, but if you plan ahead it’s not a problem. The team helped arrange a wonderful guide for Hells Gate and Mt. Longonot. Be aware of the current ownership dispute between Fisherman’s Camp owners and the on site resturant manager. It’s confusing, but didn’t impact our stay. Overall the facilities could use some renovations but for the price it’s what we expected.
Paul S — Google review
Very nice Campsite with friendly staff and lots of Hippos in the evening/night. Really loved it there. There is also a restaurant from where you can see hippos at night. But be sure to order early as they cook on demand.
Eric J — Google review
Although it was a little over my budget, I enjoyed my stay a lot. The Banda is a dream and the facilities very clean. The camp is very peaceful apart from the grasing hippos right behind the fence. You can rent a bicycle and cycle to Hells Gate National Park or just around. I went for a hike at Mt Longonot as well. Easy to reach by Matatu and very helpful staff. Would highy recommend!

Never again ... Music until 3am in the morning, people in neighboring tents shouting and putting loud music and the staff doesn't care. It took us 1 hour and a half to get breakfast (2 coffees and 2 omelettes). The tents are good but don't go there if you want to spend a peaceful holiday in nature.

Very good camp. There are tents if you don't have your own. The scenery is 10/10 facing the lake. The field is well kept making it very beautiful and suitable for a little play. Their food is also worth the money. Be aware the temperature can be a little cold. I recommend!

This a perfect picnic chill spot in Naivasha. It's so serene and it's just by the lake so the views are immaculate. Also they allow you to enter with drinks from outside. Only problem is their food took forever to get ready. And the hard liquor on site will cost you an arm and leg. But apart from that, it's definitely worth your time.

Buffalo Mall Naivasha is a convenient stopover for travelers, offering a variety of retail stores and a supermarket with affordable prices. The mall provides clean restrooms, ample security, and plenty of open spaces. It's designed to cater to those traveling by car or group vehicle, with secure parking available. Families with young children will appreciate the kiddie play areas featuring slides, merry-go-rounds, and trains.
Buffalo mall offers unparalleled shopping experience for the Naivasha Town. The mall encompasses multiple stores such as: Java House, Chandarana Foodplus, Optica, HealthyU, City Walk, Goodlife Pharmacy, Bata, Pet Pawfection, Beauty Parlour and many more. They also have a huge kid playground with very friendly and incredible attendants. Your kids will be under good and safe hands. The parking situation is well taken care of. They have plenty of parking slots. I did like the animals decor inside the mall. Adds a good effect on something we never see on the usual malls.
Morris K — Google review
Buffalo Mall is a quiet spot with a lot of potential. While it’s not fully occupied and some of the shops inside tend to close early, it’s still a decent place to stop by, especially if you’re in the area. One cool feature is the presence of electric vehicles just outside the gate. It is a nice touch that hints at a more modern, eco-friendly vibe. With more businesses and extended hours, it could easily become a livelier and more convenient shopping destination.
Liza A — Google review
It's not big big. A lot of parking space. There's a Java too and a nyama choma place right beside it. The children play area is also big enough.

Buffalo Mall provides an extensive array of products and services, encompassing a supermarket, optical shop, spa, coffee shops, eateries, and baby play dens, catering to a diverse range of needs. The parking facilities are ample, spacious, and conveniently free for visitors. Additionally, the mall features beautifully manicured green spaces, perfect for hosting outdoor events. Its commitment to providing a wide range of amenities in a well-maintained environment adds to the overall appeal and convenience for patrons.

Anne B — Google review
Serves mostly as a stop over point and it scores well on two key points; quite a distance from the road which accords it plenty of space within and in the surrounding area. Secondly, it stocks most of the things you will need for a stop over. The washrooms are clean, there's sufficient security, plenty of open spaces, kids play area and a host of other advantages. The mall's location was designed to serve people who drive or access it in a hired group vehicle. As such, it cuts out on the pedestrian traffic. The strategy may be risky but it seems to be paying off well for the proprietor.

Country club
Situated on the picturesque shores of Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley, Lake Naivasha Country Club is a luxurious resort offering a range of accommodation options. Guests can choose from standard rooms, deluxe rooms, executive cottages, and suites, all elegantly furnished with modern amenities. The resort provides opportunities for various activities such as swimming, tennis, and bird watching while enjoying classic cocktails by the fireplace or witnessing stunning sunsets over the lake.
This resort has the perfect location, right adjacent to Naivasha lake. There are zebras, monkeys and waterbucks and so many birds roaming in the resort freely. You can see them while having meals and walking around, making it an incomparable experience, though you will have to save your food from the monkeys. There are hippos in the lake which can be spotted in the day, at night they come to graze in the hotel and are easy to spot. You can catch a boat to see Lake Naivasha and Crescent Island nearby and get dropped right back at the hotel via boat. The rooms are little older but maintained, however beware of mosquitoes and insects which are in loads at such a location. The windows should have netting for ventilation, otherwise the insects get in the bathroom as soon as you open a window. The beds have mosquito nets which the staff will open at night. The food is quite good, I think there is a lot of fresh catch from the lake also. Vegans and vegetarians will have somewhat limited options. The staff are very cordial and the service is good. Beware of stepping out the room alone at night. All in all, though there are some inconveniences, the location, the views, the animals and the service made it an unforgettable experience for us. Highly recommended.
Meenal G — Google review
This hotel has beautiful grounds, and nice bedrooms but is let down by poor management, which must not care too much as the issues are mentioned in many comments and haven't been addressed. I think there are a few changes they could make that would make it more pleasant and profitable, but perhaps they make enough money from the nice scenery. Food is generally very good, but pretty much the same every meal so we got quite bored of it. The service is poor, not very friendly and quite slow: sometimes it takes half an hour for a drink to come. It's poor compared to the other MGM hotel we stayed. There were times where would have ordered another drink but no waiters came by, our dirty plates usually stack up on the table. Waiters offer drinks, but we didn't realise that included alcohol until our last night. If instead they offered "beer, wine, cocktails or soft drinks?" people would actually buy them. They could also put menus on the table, or mention the fact there are also other food menus to order from at an extra charge. In general it's clear there is a lack of care and quality about the place: bathrooms are in poor condition, towels are almost all ripped and tattered, the pizza we paid extra for was definitely frozen and the cocktail menu is just a list of ingredients. There are also no fans in rooms despite many reviewers complaining about the heat. I personally wouldn't stay here again or recommend it, which is a shame as it's really beautiful, the beds were comfortable, the view is amazing, boat safaris depart from here and the hippos and monkeys roaming around are pretty incredible.
Zachary D — Google review
“Wonderful stay at Lake Naivasha Country Club” The location is unbeatable — right on the lake with incredible views, wide lawns, and wildlife like zebras and monkeys wandering around. It’s a very peaceful and relaxing setting. The service was outstanding. The staff are warm, friendly, and genuinely go out of their way to make guests happy. From check-in to small requests, they always made me feel taken care of. Their hospitality is what truly makes this place special. The only downside for me was the food — it was okay but not at the same high standard as everything else. Still, the overall experience more than made up for it. I’d absolutely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for comfort, nature, and excellent service. I’ll definitely come back!
Brownbiggy — Google review
We spent a week traveling across Kenya, staying in five different accommodations — Lake Naivasha Country Club was by far the worst experience of the trip. The rooms feel stuck in the 1980s. Nothing seems to have been updated since then — old furniture, tired linens, and rock-hard beds that make it impossible to get a decent night’s sleep. It honestly felt like staying in a forgotten time capsule. Breakfast? Let’s not even go there. A very poor selection of items, most of which didn’t seem fresh or appealing. Hygiene standards were clearly not a priority, and the whole setup looked like it hadn’t been properly cleaned in ages. As for the location — yes, it’s “on the lake,” but in reality, it’s facing more of a swampy pond than the actual Lake Naivasha. The water looked murky and unpleasant, definitely not what we expected based on the photos or description. Overall, not worth the money or the time. There are far better options around Naivasha — this one was a real letdown.
Ioannis K — Google review
Overall we were satisfied with our weekend get away here. The wildlife and vast green area here is the absolute highlight, the proximity to the lake an Crescent Island is also a great bonus. The service was very friendly and attentive and the food despite being mediocre had plenty of variety. The rooms on the other hand, were a bit lacking, especially for a luxury hotel where you'd expect well maintained amenities. We also thought it was odd that old infrastructure within the lake had not been removed yet. ==> Still a nice place to stay due to the unique experience co-habiting alongside wildlife
Chiara B — Google review
Great location, average food, dated rooms (but well appointed) the rollaway bed is very uncomfortable. Amazing views of the lake, the animals (hippos, zebras, giraffe, wildebeests) walk right up to the building and can be spotted easily throughout the day.
Varun A — Google review
Ridiculously WOW! We watched zebras grazing as we sipped chai. Hippos came after dinner to comp on the lawn. Tons of birds. Amazing view of lake just a few meters away. Convenient for boating. Food is pretty good - lots of fresh salads and delicious hot entrees. Lamb chops during lunch were divine. Fish tempura was great. Fresh on the spot chapati. Pasta the way you like it for dinner. Breakfast had mandazi sausages and egg station.
Munira G — Google review
When you first approach the hotel, the surrounding area doesn’t feel very groomed—it gives off a slightly odd vibe. But once you’re inside the hotel grounds, everything changes. The property itself is beautiful and full of life: zebras, monkeys, and deer wander freely around the grass, and at night, hippos come out of the water and graze nearby. It’s truly magical and unlike anything we’ve experienced before. Yes, the hotel is old and definitely in need of a major renovation, but the connection to nature here more than makes up for it. The location is exceptional—they even offer boat rides at your convenience, which adds to the experience. The rooms are clean, although a bit dated, and while the food options aren’t amazing, they’re manageable. What really makes this place special is how close you can get to the animals—especially the hippos. No other spot in Naivasha offers this kind of open, immersive experience. Many lodges only have a tiny patch of grass near the water, but here, the animals share the space with you. Despite the lack of modern comforts, we were very happy with our choice. If you’re looking for a unique, nature-filled stay, this place is one of a kind.

Staff lovely and helpful.

The location and restaurant at Camp Carnelley are great, good food and friendly service. However, the accommodation service was lacking. The website upsells the place with boat rides, but in reality, there was almost nothing available. Our room was not well kept, with a hole in the door letting in insects. It was also dusty, mosquito nets were worn out, and it seemed like no sort of maintenance/cleaning is done for the room. We also arranged transport to Nairobi for June 25th months in advance, but were only told about nationwide protests by an external guide, not the camp. Our driver cancelled the day before, and Camp Carnelley offered no help or apology. Would recommend sorting your own transport, don’t rely on them for logistics.
Chelsea T — Google review
We camped at our own campsite on the roof of the car, and the place has beautiful views of the lake. In the evening, the hippos come very close, but it is safe for people. It has bathrooms and showers that are in very good condition and clean with soap and paper, and hot water. There are bathrooms on both sides of the campsite. At night it is quiet, and you can hear the hippos and birds from time to time. There is a bar-restaurant next door, and everything is very good. I definitely recommend this place for camping. They also rent bicycles for visiting Hell's Gate and help you find a guide.

Camp Carnelly's is in a great location right on the shore of Lake Naivasha. They have a great selection of food, especially their wood fired pizzas. Went for lunch. Pizzas are approx 1200 ksh for 12 inch and 1800 for the large pizzas. The loaded ones can run up to 2450 kshs. Thin crust. Milkshakes are 550 kshs. We ordered the margherita pizza - not true margherita pizza (no basil and no Mozzarella balls) but we’re pretty good. Seating is cute with big cushions covered in African fabrics.
Munira G — Google review
Worst place in Naivasha! Avoid it. It is super expensive for what you get, the rooms and banda were unclean, the water was not working and we told that to the staff several times and days and they did not fix it. The bathroom is outdoors so it is freacold during the morning and night. The restaurant is nice, that is the only good thing there. However, the experience was awful.

Great unexpected experience along the shores of Lake Naivasha. We learnt a lot about what the centre is doing to support raptors across Kenya. Our guide, Jonathan, was friendly and very knowledgeable. Would recommend a visit to anyone with an hour to spare.

Java House is a convenient option for travelers looking to make a quick stop during their road trip. Although the service for take away meals can be sluggish due to staff prioritizing dine-in customers, it remains an easily accessible and popular choice. The food at Java House is highly praised, making it a favorite stop for those traveling to Eldoret. It is hoped that Java House will continue operating at its current location as parking in Nakuru can be challenging.
An awesome stop on your road trip; just off the Nakuru highway. Their coffee is great as always and the staff are efficient. There's a kids playing area also.

Nice for a stop over during a road trip. Service however was slow for take away meals as the staff prioritized customers who were dining in. Would go back again cause it's easily accessible from the road and the food was great. I'd recommend dining in.

Nestled in the heart of nature, Kilimandege Sanctuary, which means "Hill of Birds" in Kiswahili, is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers. With over 250 species of birds and a variety of wildlife including giraffes, zebras, waterbucks, and gazelles roaming freely across its 88-acre grasslands, the sanctuary offers an immersive experience in the midst of colorful feathers and captivating tweets.
I had the unforgettable experience at Kilimandge Sanctuary in Kenya! Nestled in the heart of nature, this is real hidden gem. Tranquility. Authentic Kenyan touch, yet equipped with modern amenities for total comfort. Private entrance to Lake. Animals walking around the yeard. Lots of games for kids. Just for note, shops are not in walking distance.

Delamere Farm Shop is a popular stopover along the Nakuru-Nairobi road, conveniently located adjacent to the highway. It offers a variety of snacks, good coffee, soft and hard drinks all under one roof. The place has ample parking and even features a gas station for added convenience. Originally starting as a farm shop, it has now expanded to include a quaint restaurant where visitors can enjoy delicious meals like barbecue platters and chicken curry with naan.
This place has truly transformed into an exceptional stopover for anyone on transit. What was once just a convenient location has evolved into a comprehensive and incredibly well-equipped hub, offering everything a traveler could need, and then some! The improvements are remarkable, starting with the spotlessly clean toilets, a welcome sight for any long journey. Beyond that, the variety of food and drink options is fantastic. There are plenty of mini-shops offering everything from hot meals and snacks to refreshing beverages and, my personal favorite, an abundance of fresh fruits. The well-planned petrol station makes refueling a breeze, and the increase in parking spaces means you'll almost always find a spot without hassle. Adding a supermarket was a stroke of genius, allowing for quick grocery runs or forgotten essentials. And for those of us who appreciate a touch of beauty, the dedicated flower shop is a delightful addition, adding a vibrant splash of color to the stop. This stopover has clearly been designed with the traveler in mind, offering a convenient, clean, and comprehensive experience. It's a testament to how a place can evolve to better serve its customers. Highly recommended!

Elsamere Lodge is a charming and intimate place located on the shores of Lake Naivasha. Despite offering only a few rooms, the lodge provides incredible views of the lake, with monkeys and boars roaming around the property. The rooms are spacious and clean, offering a beautiful view to wake up to each morning. The food quality is exceptional, making up for any limited options available.
Absolutely magical place in an amazing, peaceful location. Yes the bathrooms would do with a refresh but it didn't affect the experience. The room was very clean and bed comfortable. Staff were absolutely amazing and the home cooked food was so good, much better than in some of the more luxurious lodges. The whole experience was magical and intimate as there are only 10 lodges. Security guard would alert us if there were wild animals that we missed, we saw giraffes, warthogs, zebras and hippos basically on our doorstep.

One of the most magical places I’ve ever stayed in Naivasha. Waking up to a full lake view right from the room is an experience in itself — calm, surreal, and endlessly beautiful. The lake is just steps away, and watching the annual rose bloom freely in the breeze adds a soft, dreamlike touch to the whole setting. It’s not just a stay, it’s a moment of stillness and natural beauty you carry with you. Highly recommended for anyone seeking peace, scenery, and something truly special.

Nestled on the serene northwest shore of Lake Naivasha, Loldia House is a charming colonial bungalow that offers an authentic taste of Kenyan country living. This tranquil estate features 11 beautifully appointed rooms, including options in the main family house and cozy guest cottages, all en-suite and surrounded by lush gardens. Guests can revel in breathtaking views of Mount Longonot, an extinct volcano that adds to the picturesque landscape.
An Unforgettable Honeymoon Experience at Loldia House My wife Tiffany and I recently stayed at Loldia House for two nights as part of our honeymoon, and it was truly a magical experience. Nestled by the stunning Lake Naivasha, Loldia House far exceeded our expectations and created memories that we will cherish forever. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine smiles and warmth that immediately made us feel at home. The staff’s exceptional service went beyond anything we’ve experienced, even at some of the world’s top hotels like St. Regis and Four Seasons. The care and attention to detail were astonishing, reflecting a level of hospitality that came straight from the heart, not just from company protocols. The food was another highlight of our stay. With a diverse menu and generous portions, every meal was a delight. We particularly enjoyed the steak and risotto, which were absolutely superb. Breakfasts were so plentiful that we found ourselves struggling to finish! Our room—if you can even call it just a room—was beautifully decorated and incredibly spacious. We were in awe when we walked in; it felt like our own private house, complete with a lovely outdoor area. The game drives and boat ride were the perfect way to explore Lake Naivasha and Nakuru. The views were breathtaking, and witnessing so many animals in their natural habitat was an unforgettable experience. Among the 30+ countries we’ve visited, Loldia House stands out as one of the best accommodations we’ve ever had. We will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you to the entire team for making our honeymoon so special. We hope you’re all doing well and wish you continued success. Warm regards, Wilson and Tiffany

We stayed 2 nights here and had the best time. The welcome was warm and the service excellent. WE experienced a great night game drive, and extensive day drive on the estate and a memorable trip to Nukuru NP. We also did a great boat safari on the lake. The guide was knowledgeable and engaging. Food was good with a choice of 3 dishes, sometimes that was a bit limiting so may be having a staple always available ( grilled chicken or similar) would have been better. Highly recommended. 2 days was about right, 3 would have been good too but 1 day would not have been enough.

This was the first stop on our honeymoon safari tour. Loldia House feels like it’s out of a magical documentary. Lots of different animals to see on early morning, afternoon, and evening game drives. This place will take your breath away. The food is out of this world and comes in abundance. Also, the pool is to die for!! Overlooks a huge tree with swing chairs and you can watch impala running round and hippos swimming too. The boat ride is unreal, being able to watch eagles fish is something else!! All of the staff are amazing but special thanks to Cynthia, Samuel, Sebastian, Charles, and Constance.

1. Upon checking in, we were put in the master bedroom. I would not recommend this room as it is by the public reception and dining area that has no privacy. We then asked and paid for an upgrade to one of the luxury suites as we typically enjoy a private experience in our travels. After two nights, we were informed that we have to leave this luxury suite as another guest had booked it. Shouldn’t Loldia House have known that the suite was pre-booked in their reservation system? It was at this point that we decided to leave the property as this was unacceptable. 2. On the two nights that we stayed in the luxury suite, we discovered that there were a couple of rats residing with us. While I’m not a hospitality industry expert, one would think that having one or two cats on the property would be a solution to this rodent problem. We also saw a rat by the outdoor dining area. 3. There were very few options in the food menu to pick from during lunch and dinner. Therefore, it’s kind of a lottery as to what you will get on a specific day in terms of food. That said, our waiter (Elias) was very good when it came to attention and service. 4. Once we were in our room, there was no way of contacting the front desk when we needed help (for example, an escort to dinner) as they do not answer their phones. 5. The one time that we were going to schedule a game drive with a Loldia House guide, we found out the car was in the shop for maintenance. 6. Needless to say, we checked out a day earlier as our stay at Loldia House was not relaxing and did not deliver anything that we expected.

Our family stayed here in July and took over all of the rooms. The staff and the accommodations were amazing. Everyone was incredibly kind, helpful and very knowledgeable about the area. Half of the group was under the age of 13 and everyone, especially Simon, was very attentive to them and patient. On our last night, all of the staff came out and helped us to celebrate a special occasion. Between the staff, the accommodations, and the hippos that came to graze on the lawn, this is definitely a place the entire family will fondly remember.

Loldia house was the 2nd stop on our Kenya adventure. It is a small bungalow built by German prisoners of war in during WW2. It has 7 guest rooms each of which have shower, bath, double beds and are beautifully fitted out. The service is exceptional and the food is some of the best I've eaten outside of high end restaurants. The night game drive was great and we got to see all sorts of things. Hippos, gazelle, DikDik, hyaenas, jackal, zebra, giraffe - and all in a couple of miles of the cottage. The baboons are kept out at night but the impalas are encouraged to stay in the safety of the compound. The hippos come out at night and we're 50 yds across some open grass. Very strongly recommended.

The rooms and the entire sanctuary is eco friendly with a variety of wild animals. Service is really great and the ambience worth it. At the same time affordable. I have stayed at the studio and the full board options and all of those stays have been memorable. A place you want to consider for a quiet, peaceful and calm weekend. The road has been renovated hence the place is accessible. Due to proximity to the lake, the mosquitoes are really nasty and do bite. Make sure to apply the repellant and always reapply. The establishment very keen to allergies when preparing food

Island
Cresent Island, although not actually an island, is a protected peninsula located within Lake Naivasha in Kenya. It serves as a wildlife sanctuary and is home to a variety of rare species including giraffes, zebras, hippos, and endangered bird species such as red-eyed doves and gray crowned cranes. Visitors can enjoy a boat trip on the lake to observe these animals and explore the island itself.
My visit to Crescent Island was one of the most magical experiences I’ve ever had, and having Kevin as our guide elevated it to an entirely new level. If you’re looking for a serene, immersive, and educational nature experience, this is the place to go! From the moment we met Kevin, his enthusiasm and warmth set a wonderful tone for the walk. He has an incredible depth of knowledge about the island’s wildlife and environment, and his storytelling made everything come alive. He didn’t just show us the animals—he helped us understand them, sharing fascinating details about their behaviors, habitats, and how they thrive on the island. Walking among the animals on Crescent Island felt surreal. There’s something deeply humbling about standing a few feet away from a grazing giraffe or quietly observing zebras and wildebeests in their natural habitat. Kevin’s keen eye ensured we spotted animals we might have otherwise missed, and his calm demeanor helped us feel at ease as we walked among them. The island’s scenery is absolutely stunning. The combination of rolling grasslands, scattered acacia trees, and the shimmering Lake Naivasha as a backdrop created views that were nothing short of postcard-perfect. Kevin knew all the best spots for panoramic photos and encouraged us to take our time to soak in the beauty around us. One thing that truly stood out was Kevin’s passion for conservation. He spoke passionately about the importance of protecting the island’s delicate ecosystem and shared how we can all play a part in preserving nature for future generations. It was inspiring to learn from someone who clearly cares so deeply about the environment. Kevin’s sense of humor and easygoing personality also made the walk even more enjoyable. He was attentive to the group, ensuring everyone felt included, comfortable, and safe throughout the experience. His ability to connect with people while staying focused on the wildlife and surroundings is a rare talent. This wasn’t just a nature walk—it was a journey into the heart of the wild, guided by someone who truly loves what he does. Crescent Island is a gem, and Kevin is the perfect guide to help you discover its magic. If you’re planning to visit Crescent Island, don’t hesitate. And if you get Kevin as your guide, count yourself lucky—you’re in for an unforgettable experience. This is a must-do activity in Lake Naivasha and one I’ll be recommending to everyone I know.

Although I didn't land on the island (high priced tickets of 60USD per head), we could view a part of the island from the waters during boating in Lake Naivasha. Many of our co-tourists including one of my family members visited this island. There are many animals in this island, all herbivores, and comparatively less aggresive (no elephants), which can be viewed very close (of course accompanying guide will restrict to go too close) and photographed and I missed this opportunity which I will regret. The tourists who take this tour are given a walking Safari with a guide for an hour or more which is a strict no-no during normal safaris in the other famous parks where tourists are not allowed to come out of the Safari jeep. This trip is highly recommended despite the additional high cost to experience a close encounter with animals and photographing them.

Crescent Island is such a beautiful place , if you dream of being in the animal natural habitat. I really did enjoy the tour, being up close with giraffe, zebra , Hippo ,the gazelle was really nice . It's was easy to get there via boat which charges 3k . The tour guide was very helpful and very knowledgeable about the island . If you are in Naivasha make a point of visiting there. There is entry fee different for foreigners and for locals . If you plan to visit there consider a guide since is usually optional . Also wear closed comfortable shoes since it's a long walk. Also carry a cap. If you plan to visit with children the biggest threat are the male ostrich that occasionally will chase visitor,so confirm if they are out there, I experienced this and it was a horrible experience ,we had to run for our lives despite the fact we had our guide with us . I hope the management has already caged the male ostrich. All in all if you are in Naivasha it's a great place to visit, it's very memorable, strongly recommend. Not so many place like this on earth

It is a nice tour and the guys was very interesting. There aren't any animals you can't see elsewhere, but it is nice to be able to walk around them. The fact that some of the animals were brought there for a movie makes me uncomfortable especially Adobe now they cannot leave, although our guide told us that now the water level is going down and the animals will be able to get back to main land in few month. The boat ride to and from the island was also very nice.
Orna L — Google review
How is it amazing to take a trip on a boat to an Island to see various wild animals and wonder how they made it to that island. Cresent island is truly an animal sanctuary since there are no predator such as the lion who prey on gazelles and impalas. So the animals keep procreating and die of sickness of being too old. I was so surprised to see wild beast on an island and still remains fascinating to me. There are Giraffes and zebras. Have you been to an animal park where you can walk around animals and even take selfies with them? Cause this is truly the kind of park where you are in close proximity with animals without being constrained by the car you use for safaris. It's truly a great walk in nature and the best weeken gateway. I would definitely comment on the toilet in the bush very nature friendly and so African at the same time surprisingly clean. Charges vary at the entrance of the island for citizens, residents and tourists so it's wise to carry your identification.
Tessa M — Google review
This is an island within Lake Naivasha. There is a lot to see here. There are wild animals like hippos, giraffes, zebras, endangered bird species such red-eyed doves, gray crowned crane and others that can only be found here. As you tour the lake and the Island itself, there is a flurry of activity one can do, for instance, fishing (when you have arranged for it with the authority). Their bird sanctuary is a touching devotion especially with the knowledge that most birds are becoming extinct.

Hells Gate National Park is a beloved sanctuary for wildlife enthusiasts, boasting rich biodiversity and scenic landscapes that draw in birdwatchers, photographers, hikers, horse-riders, cyclists and campers alike. Located near Lake Naivasha, visitors can enjoy the tranquil sounds of hippos as they relax by a roaring fire at the on-site bar. Accommodation ranges from affordable dorms to camping options or guesthouses by the lake.
Went for the third time for Safari Series bike races. Afterwards, we took a trip to the gorges. The park has nice gravel roads, you can enjoy the game on your bike. I loved it.

Hell's Gate National Park (Enemeneng'a) has a lot to offer. Most outstanding are the volcanic plugs: Fisher's Tower and Central Tower. You will also find rock outcrops and hot springs all as result of erosion and volcanic activity respectively.

Absolutely incredible. This was my favourite part of the safari, beating Masai Mara and Amboseli. We chose to bike through the park getting very close to the animals. It had a completely different feeling compared to the safari-van. It is great for a few hours and as a complement to other parks.

My husband and I visited Hell’s Gate in October 2024, and it turned out to be one of the most unique and unforgettable adventures we’ve ever had. Cycling through this stunning landscape is an experience like no other! Bicycles are easily available for rent at the entrance, and taking a guide is completely optional, we explored on our own and felt perfectly safe throughout the visit. Do remember to carry water and some snacks, as there are no facilities once you enter the park. Even the toilets are only available at the entry and exit points. The best part? The wildlife experience! Animals roam freely around you, and cycling right beside them is simply amazing. We were lucky to spot warthogs, cape buffalo, giraffes, zebras, different types of deer, wildebeest, and so many more. It truly felt like pedaling through nature’s playground. I highly recommend opting for the cycle ride here. It’s absolutely worth visiting and offers memories that will stay with you forever.

1. Geothermal Activity: The park has geothermal power plants and hot springs. 2. Spectacular Scenery: It features dramatic cliffs, gorges, and volcanic rock formations. 3. Wildlife Viewing: You can see various wildlife species, including zebras, giraffes, and gazelles. 4. Rock Climbing & Hiking: The park is a popular spot for rock climbing and hiking. 5. Walking Safari: It's one of the few parks where you can walk or cycle without a guide.

Hell’s Gate National Park is an incredible destination! The scenery is breathtaking, with towering cliffs, deep gorges, and unique rock formations that make it unlike any other park. I loved being able to walk, cycle, and even hike through the park while spotting wildlife up close. The geothermal features and natural hot springs add an extra layer of beauty. It’s adventurous yet peaceful—a perfect place for nature lovers and anyone looking for an active outdoor experience. Highly recommend visiting!”

Underwhelming. Not really worth the visit if you care about predators or if you’ve been to other parks to see animals. Extra charges for everything in addition to park entry - bicycle fee, guide required for seeing the gorge, etc. if you’ve never seen an antelope, zebra, Buffalo or warthog and can’t go to another park, you can see them here
Serena L — Google review
One of very few wildlife parks that actually let you walk through with zebras and giraffes casually strolling by. However, if you are getting a guide for the stroll from outside the gates, make sure to negotiate the terms before you go in or your experience might end on a sour note. Our guide Chris insisted on us buying an entry ticket for him and then insisted on a 50USD fee for taking three of us through the park once we were done. A fine experience marred at the end for not wanting to squabble over expenses we know were unnecessarily high. As a tourist wanting to give back to the community, we had a mind to tip him but found that he insisted on way way more himself. Not a good feeling to end up cheated. Well, it is what it is. Good park. Guide not necessary till you hit the gorge. Negotiate terms. Avoid Chris. Update: Realised later that the guided trip through the gorge should last between 60 to 90 minutes. For us, it was barely 15 minutes. And our guide Chris also insisted on us paying for a 6 to 12 seater van even though we took a 6 seater in to pick us up at the end of the trail. Scam upon scam. Avoid.

tl/dr: Interesting enough to definitely visit again. Google maps might lead you to the wrong gate but good thing is that the right gate is about a km away. Would be nice for them to put a sign there to direct people to the right gate. Ambience: It was green and quiet with a couple of warthogs roaming around and not a lot of humans.. especially for a Saturday. There’s a really nice view of the lake all round. The place generally feels like it’s on the brink of being run down but is still struggling to survive. Campsite: Facilities looked like they don’t get a lot of love from the maintenance & cleaning crews. Still looks like a lovely spot to camp though. Cost is 800 per person for camping with your own tent Didn’t get to try the food but will update once I do. There’s a mandatory entrance fee to access the park

A hidden gem. The resort is so peaceful and quiet. Surrounded by beautiful landscape and animal. The morning hike is a must to go up view point. Strongly recommend for a night stay here

We stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed the beautiful nature and calmness of Crater Lake. We made a Rim Walk around the Crater and a Nature Walk through the Sanctuary, both with our exceptional guide Wilson. We spotted many animals along our way, as well as a few giraffes everyday just looking out of our tent to the other side of the lake. For cold nights we got hot water bottles in the bed during dinner, so we had a pre-heated bed. The food was fresh and delicious, the staff exceptionally helpful and kind. Thank you to everyone for the great stay!

We really enjoyed our stay. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. Is it remote? Yes. That's the beauty of this place. If you enjoy wildlife and an authentic experience away from the crowds and endless safari vehicles and just want to enjoy nature... This is your place. The staff is incredibly friendly and we enjoyed a fantastic game walk with Wilson. And, a special thank you to Peter and Elizabeth who provided excellent food and personalized service.

Idyllic, peaceful place with walking opportunities. I can highly recommend this lodge if you like nature and want some more than just the usual Jeep safaris. Staff is very friendly and sleeping in a tent surrounded by birds sounds, frogs and monkeys is absolutely paradise.
