Bought tickets on the day! It's a day pass - so feel free to go on as many rides as you want on the same day. Run by very friendly volunteers and such a great way to listen to the history of the town while enjoying spectacular views of the port! The driver is very jolly and the trip was very enjoyable. We'll definitely be doing this again when we are back in town. Being able to sit on the sidelines and enjoy the views, there was something very peaceful about it 🧡

Absolutely awesome 👍 Fabulous, beautifully renovated tram Staff were amazing, friendly, knowledgeable, very accommodating. Dog friendly too,we were able to take our dog with us...(.this might change if really busy ?) The tour was informative, with humour in the narrative....all in all a very enjoyable experience. At the tram station there is a great little museum too plus a great little model railway track, featuring Thomas ..of course !!

Fantastic commentary by Peter on our trip. Great ride around well worth the trip. Loved the train sets at the museum. Was a rainy miserable day for us but still well worth the ride.

Fantastic! Great to hear about the local history while enjoying the cable tram ride.
Phillip N — Google review
We went to the cabletram today. Sadly it couldn't ride, because of the heavy winds, but the volunteers of the museum where so kind to our son, who was a bit dissapointed. We had a look in the museum with the small trains, saw the cable trams movie and our son could have a look around in the depot to see the tram. He loved it. Thank you so much for your kindness and making our sons day amazing!

What a wonderful, informative, welcoming team of people working together to create a truly special experience. We really enjoyed learning about Portland. I didn’t know half of the facts we were taught! Highly recommend checking this out.
Ker M — Google review
The museum is quite an interesting place with some good exhibits and there is an excellent video about the cable trams o Melbourne. It is also the base for the replica cable tram tours around Portland, the trip is about 7 kilometres largely along the coast and through some parklands. Quite a lot to see and there is also commentary about the area on the journey. The tram line has quite a few stops where you can get on or off as your tickets are valid all day. We enjoyed the journey and recommend it to everyone.

Nestled in a historic 1930s powerhouse, the Portland Powerhouse Motor and Car Museum is a must-visit for automotive enthusiasts. November 2024: Finally I had time to go in and take a longer look. The cars here have been so well kept and are in beautiful condition. There is honestly a lovely collection here - from the 1800's onwards. Thank you to the lovely man wo spoke with me about some of the History 😊 February 2024: Excellent History! Mr Geary, the Bathurst, the Sydney, The Ballarat and Melbourne guys would have loved to have seen this! It is nice how lovely Historical Museums can pop up in the middle of no where - in a good way! 🚖 🛻 🚙 🛺

Well worth a visit. A wide range of, mostly still operating and registered, vehicles - cars and bikes, together a range of other exhibits. Entry is $10/adult, $8/concession and $20/family. There is plenty of parking.
B P — Google review
A bit sceptical about what sort of things I would find, but the few pictures I took should be worth 1000 words Thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Made me wish I could have been around the time when cars were a pipe dream that came to life. Entry fee is reasonable for a trip through history
Damian K — Google review
It's not huge, but it's well worth a visit. The exhibits are clean and well presented with information boards on each. There is video running on a couple of overhead TVs that show interesting history and some funny times of yesterdays motor vehicles. There are a couple of old tram trolley's and other old engines as well as cars and tools from the motor industry. I must add; this place caters for caravans and campers. Unlike most of the CBD.
Roger B — Google review
Excellent and enjoyable display Lots of different aspects of motoring history here - cars - trams - old fuel bowsers - stationary engines - tools and much more. Car Club volunteer was informative and friendly.

The Portland Botanical Gardens in Victoria, Australia, are a historic and diverse garden designed by William Allitt in the 1850s. With over 170 years of history, this garden showcases a wide variety of plant species thriving in the temperate climate of Victoria. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls among colorful blooms and picturesque landscapes. The gardens feature stunning displays of dahlia flowers and offer opportunities for walks along the canal.
Lovely small Botanical Gardens. Beautiful array of roses aswell as many other flowers in bloom. Has a Crochet Grass in centre that can’t be walked on but makes for a lovely green centre piece. A few areas require a bit more upkeep but was still a lovely public free garden.
Kylie B — Google review
Great assortment of flowers and plants. Loved the rose gardens and the croquet field was great. Not too big as far as botanical gardens go but definitely worth a visit. Lots of birds and butterflies. Very nicely set out and easy to walk around the various gardens.
Ali ( — Google review
We always enjoy visiting botanic gardens! This one is smallish so it's really easy to see everything in a short time. Some beautiful flowers and greenery here, we even came across 2 koalas fighting! 😲
Sean H — Google review
There is currently a Dahlia exhibition (20/2/2025) which is just beginning to open up. What an amazing range and absolutely beautiful.
Adrian C — Google review
I really enjoyed these Bot Gardens. When I travel I always make an effort to see the local Gardens. It is a quiet place to relax right next to the main port and a very short walk from town. While there I decided to do a spot of yoga on the well managed lawns. Well done Portland.
Uncommon G — Google review
Lovely place to wonder and a beautiful place with many amenities around. It is relatively a small garden, but It was actually a pleasant surprise. A little river runs along one side. The water was nice and clear. No entrance fees. So many lovely photo opportunities. I never had an issue finding it in Portland. Another added feature to this spectacular water land. Suggest you pay a visit. I really enjoyed it. Catch me @volarphotography ;)
Rajinda F — Google review
This was such a lovely experience, refreshing after my big drive along Ocean Road. So many 💐 blossoms and even though spring is well and truly over the gardens still looked beautiful. The view by the river a photographers dream. I even found a flower named after my nice Phoebe Francis.
Alice J — Google review
I visited in late Summer and the gardens were beautiful. Quite a variety of colourful blooms, a few trails here and there, (though it's a mid-sized park) and just generally a beautiful place to visit. If you want a longer walk, head out and wander along the canal. I'd suggest parking on Cliff street to enter.

Point Danger Gannet Colony in Portland, Australia is a must-visit for bird enthusiasts and families looking for kid-friendly activities. With over 6000 Australasian gannets, it's the only gannet colony in Australia. Efforts to preserve the colony include limited human access and the use of Maremma sheepdogs to protect against predators.
A high platform enables viewers to take in a "snow globe" perspective of ocean & land. A lovely spot to soak up the magic of mother nature! The walking tracks are well maintained & make up a fraction of the great south west walk. Roads are also well maintained & suitable for all vehicles.
Lu'creatia Z — Google review
Thanks Josh for the time you spend at the Gannet Colony imparting your knowledge to people who come to see the Colony between Sept and April. When we visited there was a sighting of a Cape Gannet usually seen in South Africa, quite a rare sighting!

A stunning place, must visit!!!Please note the volunteer will take you in and start the narration around 5.30 pm so it’s imperative you reach there before that. Its a free daily tour.We got lucky as we visited during their nesting period in Oct
Dolly K — Google review
As an avid birder I was in heaven. We were so lucky to get an unscheduled vist with a local ranger. To get so close to these magnificent nesting birds was magical. Tours are every day at 5.30pm with a ranger. The area is securely fenced to reduce instances of predation.
Vivian H — Google review
Fabulous view of the bird colony. We waited for the bloke to open the gate at 5:30pm. It’s now open 7 days a week at that time. Be there before the man arrives to look around and walk up to the viewing platform that’s outside the fence. Once inside the fox proof fence you walk with the guide to the electric fence. You stay outside this fence but it’s not far from the birds. Binoculars are a good idea if you have some. But the birds are clearly visible at this distance. The wind was onshore while we were there so the birds had their backs to us much of the time and it smells like a chock pen. 🫤 Still it’s a fabulous sight and it’s free!
Geri H — Google review
We were lucky enough to have arrived just around 6pm (after seeing reviews abt the free tour guide at 5:30pm for free!). Joshua was a lovely tour guide who gave us wonderful facts about the birds. Highly recommend to see them during breeding season! Just check out the info centre at Portland for more info!
Lejla N — Google review
This is one of those rare places where you can still see gannet colony in all its natural glory. It's fenced off probably why gannet still gathers here. I visited on a public holiday so I couldn't get up close. I would suggest calling the visitor centre and ask if the gates would be open. Much better to experience the colony up close. Otherwise bring binoculars or a really good zoom camera to see them up close.

The World War Two Memorial Lookout Tower is a historic water tower that was repurposed into a lookout in the 1990s. Standing at 25 meters tall, it originally dates back to the 1930s and was used to provide safe water for the town. The tower became obsolete by the 1980s but was revitalized in honor of Portland residents who served in World War II.
Interesting museum run by volunteers containing a mix of items from all the branches of the armed services of Australia & costing only $4 an adult, kid's free is a bargain. The view from the top of the town & out to sea is superb. Allow an hour to fully digest all the news articles, exhibits & chat with the attendant.

If you get the chance, stop by and take a walk through history as you make your way to the top of the light house. Pet friendly.
Carmen B — Google review
Interesting World War 2 memorabilia over several levels, with a great 360 degree view of the area from the top. Staffed by friendly, knowledgeable local volunteers it’s well worth the $4 entry. Highly recommended!
Paul J — Google review
GREAT little find where the historic tram starts. JUST $4 entry for 1. A bit of much needed exercise to get to the top. 2. Awesome 360°C views. 3. Sombre reminder of the war. So much care and effort put into the exhibits. 4. Feelings of gratitude. Super glad most of the world is speaking English and enjoying democracy. Thanks to the countless brave men and women, and good leadership. 5. Nice lookout/photo spot (just a few steps away) which is free of course. P/s. Their brochure doesn't do it justice. GIVE THIS ATTRACTION A GO.

Well worth a look - great views from the top, and a great presentation of the local connection to WW2 - friendly staff make it a very worthwhile visit - Highly Recommended!

We stumbled on to this precious stay and were so enchanted by the location and room that we stayed an extra night changing our plans to do so. Quiet, serene and beautiful historic accommodation and wallabies in the yard. We spend the day on a great hike and relaxing. Highly recommend.

This place deserves a 5 ⭐ but sadly all its buildings were closed so it didn’t quite get my full scores, that said it is an incredible light house set amongst a fabulous back drop of the most rugged rocks with the most amazing waves crashing over them… I could have sat there all day watching them ! Be sure to walk behind the lighthouse and step beyond the enclosure onto the cliff top walk for the best views - do NOT take young children out there though !
Evie S — Google review
Gordon, the tour guide was fantastic and full of knowledge, with great history on the lighthouse. I would recommend a tour. The views from the top were amazing.
Jonnie P — Google review
We decided to take it easy today so visiting another lighthouse was in order. Lots of lovely-looking buildings with beautiful scenery and old-style volcano fossils were worth the drive. Pity about wind farms spoiling the East Coast everywhere.
John F — Google review
I went to Cape Nelson Lighthouse, and the lighthouse is beautiful! The views of the ocean and cliff-tops were stunning 😍 too!! There's a walking trail as well, which is amazing and covers a lot of ground and cliff tops. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was because the toilets were locked and unavailable. Definitely recommend checking the lighthouse out. If you haven't, great history information available too.

I only found it by turning onto a random side street, otherwise wouldn’t have known it existed! Situated at the end of a dead end street, quite a nice little attraction!

The lighthouse is an iconic piece of architecture, standing tall with its striking white and red colours against the backdrop of the deep blue sea. Whether you're a history buff or just looking for a picturesque spot for a leisurely stroll, the lighthouse won't disappoint.
Swamit R — Google review
Just a lovely look out point.
Rebeckah O — Google review
We quickly stopped here to take a family photo however it was drizzling rain so the stop was quick. The lighthouse was smaller than most but naturally it was built on the side of a cliff overlooking the water. Views were nice! Parking was very limited as the entrance is located at the rear of a court. Worth a quick look if passing through Portland 👌
Daniel M — Google review
It was cool little light!
Paul J — Google review
Nice place to visit and know the history of this light house. The place is stunning with great ocean view. The coffee shop located near the light house serves great coffee.
Satish K — Google review
If you walk from Nuns Beach, or even the visitor centre and head away from the town along "Port of Portand Vested Land", you'll reach the lighthouse before you know it. It's a short, easy walk. There are also pretty views out to sea, and the lighthouse itself is lovely as is some of the flora along the cliffs past that point. I'd also recommend looking up as, during my wander here, there were a couple of koalas relaxing not too far off the ground in trees near the lighthouse.

210-hectare park with sea birds, a picnic area & trails, plus coastal lookouts & an 1884 lighthouse.
Another great destination! We are still pinching ourselves after visiting Cape Nelson State Park, a true gem on the Great Ocean Road. This park exceeded our expectations in every way, and we're so glad we made the decision to stop by. As we entered the park, we were immediately struck by the stunning scenery. The rugged coastline, towering cliffs, and secluded beaches all combined to create a breathtakingly beautiful landscape. We spent hours exploring the park's many lookout points, taking in the views of the Southern Ocean and the surrounding coastline. The Park is a haven for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. We spotted a variety of native birds, including kookaburras, cockatoos, and rosellas, as well as kangaroos and wallabies grazing in the park's grasslands. The park's diverse flora was also impressive, with a range of native plants and wildflowers on display. The park's trails were well-marked and well-maintained, making it easy for us to navigate the terrain. We chose to hike the Cape Nelson Lighthouse Walk, which offered stunning views of the coastline and the lighthouse itself. The park's facilities, including the picnic areas and toilets, were clean and well-maintained. This area is steeped in history and culture, with evidence of human habitation dating back thousands of years. We visited the Cape Nelson Lighthouse, which was built in 1884 and offers stunning views of the coastline. We also learned about the park's rich Aboriginal heritage and the significance of the area to the local Gunditjmara people. We are so glad we come to visit  and we highly recommend it to anyone travelling along the Great Ocean Road. The park's stunning scenery, diverse wildlife and flora, and rich history and culture make it a must-see destination. We can't wait to return and explore more of what this incredible park has to offer.

We have spend 2 nights in the little houses next to the light house. You can take a lighthouse tour or walk many tracks around it. The view here is really amazing so I deffenetly recoomend you dropping by here. But be careful of cangoroos on the road and drive safely!

The Cape Nelson State Park area has walk in camping that is part of GSW Walk & there is also a picnic area just after the access track to the devils kitchen lookout 👌At the southern end of the cape is the Lighthouse & Cafe ! The area can be linked into sort walks along the GSW track & provide some fantastic ocean views 👍 Access to the platforms below the cliffs are achievable with local knowledge & all have the potential to provide irreversible consequences 🤔

The War Memorial in Portland is a serene tribute located near the picturesque beach area, beautifully maintained by the local council. Nestled between a shopping strip and the coastline, it offers a peaceful atmosphere with manicured lawns adorned with vibrant flowers. While access may be challenging for those using prams or wheelchairs due to nearby divided roads, visitors can still appreciate its historical significance and reflect on the names etched into its structure—honoring those who made sacrifices.

One side of the memorial is a divided road so that you can not park on that side closer to it. Other side facing toward beach. If you go there by a pram or wheel chair, it's bit difficult. Othet than the historical value of the memorial, there's nothing special with it.

WoW, the ANZAC display was excellent (2025). We enjoyed walking and experiencing the displays. It was amazing 👏.
