Fortress
Kanli Kula, also known as the 'Bloody Tower,' is a historic fortress in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. The city is characterized by its defensive fortresses and towers, including Forte Mare from the 15th century, Spanjola from the 16th century, and Citadela or Macel along the coastline. Kanli Kula stands out as one of the most beautiful summer stages on the Adriatic.
Worth the visit and the step! Lovely views from the fortress. We were also able to buy a drink and chill out for a bit.
Rachel W — Google review
A Place with Soul and Potential Herceg Novi is one of those places that captures the heart with its genuine beauty, historical charm, and the gentle sparkle of the Adriatic Sea. Perfectly located at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, it offers everything from old Venetian walls to lively narrow streets filled with cafés and the scent of orange trees. It’s easy to understand why the town is called "the city of the sun" – not just for its warm climate, but also for the warmth of its people. But behind the beautiful surface, there’s also room for growth. The city deserves more investment in both the restoration of its historical buildings and in its infrastructure. With the right efforts, Herceg Novi could thrive even more – not just as a summer gem, but as a year-round destination attracting visitors from around the world. To say that hell can be turned into paradise is a reflection of the power of vision and will – but the opposite is also true. Herceg Novi is already a kind of paradise, but without long-term care and investment, there’s a risk of losing what makes the place so unique. Montenegro holds a treasure in this town. With more attention, preservation, and modernization, Herceg Novi could become one of the most desirable destinations on the Mediterranean – a place where history, nature, and the present meet in perfect harmony. Kanli Kula is a fortress on top of Herceg Novi. It cost €4 per person, it gives a nice panoramic view of the town , but other than that if there’s no event nothing much
J — Google review
A 16th-century fortress built by the Turks, originally a prison and translated as the Bloody Tower, is currently used for various cultural events (it has a large open-air amphitheater with over 1,000 seats). Its location on the Bay of Kotor undoubtedly creates a beautiful landscape on the coast.
Lucca T — Google review
Kanli kula in herceg novi is a fascinating historical site that offers visitors a glimpse into the past along with breaktaking views over the city and the sea. It's a perfect spot for photography enthousiasts. However It's worth noting that the site is a bit untidy. There are occasional instances of litter and general disarray which can detract from the overall experience. Despite this the fort's historical significance and the incredible views make it well worth a visit. The entrance fee is quite reasonable at just 4 euro's per person.
Kenneth B — Google review
Has interesting history and amazing view. Built by the Turks in 1539. It had many bloody wars. It’s name means “Bloody tower” in Turkish. Some source says this name is used because of killed Turkish solders by Venetians
MS K — Google review
Worth a visit just for the view. However there was little information to give you much history and you could complete a walk around in about 5 minutes. Nice spot though at sunset. Entry is cheap.

Great views. Not sure it was worth 4 Euros, but it kept us entertained for about 20 min.

Savina Monastery is a serene complex located just outside the town, featuring three hillside churches and religious treasures such as a silver icon, frescoes, and relics. The monastery, named after Sava, the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church, offers beautiful coastal views from its position on the town's eastern slopes. It includes the elegant 18th-century Church of the Dormition carved from Croatian pinkish stone.
Very pleasant little monastery. Probably not our favourite in Montenegro, but defo worth a little diversion to it if you’re in the area. Lots of gold leaf, icons and candles as you’d expect. Peaceful grounds and a large cemetery over various levels. A nice viewpoint from up in the hill.
Mike R — Google review
Unfortunately, the main church is under reconstruction. Only the small one is open for a visit. Nevertheless, it is beautiful and peaceful area to walk around and relax.
Jolita — Google review
This is a beautiful place with commanding views across the bay. It's an easy walk up from the coast and worth the effort. The main chapel is undergoing a major restoration so access is not permitted but the doors were open allowing you to see in. There are great views of the church and the bay from the steeply tiered Graveyard. Glad we made the journey.
IAN M — Google review
Absolutely stunning - we had a bit of a walk to the place from the winery but glad that we took the stairs down because like many Orthodox monasteries, this one is very well adorned. Additionally, they have a nice shop on-site with icons, wine, etc., so please do go and support them in that way. My quite a five star experience because the church was undergoing refurbishment and we could not do much but it is a very peaceful property and I was happy to see it.
Andrew M — Google review
It’s a Monastery/ Church so as a tourist place 3 stars, not attractive. But has non tourists value for people comming to pray.

Peaceful small monastery partly under construction. Ask if the museum is open if you like icons and get a bottle of wine from the nearby winery who can was associated with the monastery but isn’t now if I understand

Historical landmark
The Clock Tower, or Sahat Kula, stands proudly at the entrance to Herceg Novi's Old Town, a stunning 16-meter structure commissioned by Sultan Mahmud in 1667. This iconic landmark not only marks the gateway to the historic area but also serves as a symbol of the city, appearing on its flag and coat of arms. With its mechanical clocks adorning each side, it once chimed to signal daily Muslim prayers during Ottoman rule.
Maybe the most beautiful building in town, definitely in the best part of the city, the charming Old Town.
Ana S — Google review
The Old Town has been occupied by the Ottomans, the Albanians and the Venetians so the architecture is eclectic if not slightly bizarre. The 16 meter, Ottoman-esque clock tower is definitely one of the more bizarre additions added here on what was the main gate during Turkish rule. Regardless, it's a cool thing to see as many come to do, and well worth the steep walk up the many steps from the beach. Both sides of the clock tower, both inside the city walls and outside (Nikola Djurkovic Square) have many cafes and restaurants.
D — Google review
This is one of the most beautiful central places of the old town - a meeting place :) The perfect time for photos without people and tourists is 6/7am

If you're seeking an unforgettable adventure on the water, look no further than a boat ride that combines thrilling activities like wakeboarding and spearfishing with breathtaking views of the Bay of Kotor. Picture yourself gliding across crystal-clear waters while expertly navigating your wakeboard, all under the guidance of a knowledgeable skipper who brings local history to life. The spacious speedboat ensures comfort as you travel between stunning spots like Budva and Sveti Stefan, where charming villages dot the coastline.
The tour was absolutely wonderful! We visited the Blue Cave, a private beach, Mamula, and Zanjice Beach. We also went snorkeling and wakeboarding, and they were amazing! You can even catch your own fish, and the barbecue afterward was simply the best. On top of that, the guide and his little dog were the perfect company. I truly recommend this experience!
Indi O — Google review
My partner and I had the most incredible day with Nebojša on his boat tour of the Bay of Kotor. To put it simply, the day was unreal. The speedboat itself was fantastic – fast, comfortable, and surprisingly spacious, making the journey between spots an absolute pleasure. What truly set this trip apart was Nebojša himself. We were blown away by his deep knowledge of the bay's history. He brought the stories of the charming villages and islands to life, which added a rich layer to the stunning scenery. It was like having a private historian and a skilled skipper in one! We visited several incredible spots, including the hauntingly beautiful Mamula island, but for us, the absolute highlight was visiting the sea cave. The experience of swimming in that brilliantly blue water was pure magic and the most fun we had. If you are thinking of a boat trip in Kotor, look no further. We cannot recommend Nebojša's tour enough. It was a perfect day, and we already want to go back. Our highest recommendations!!!

Absolutely fantastic experience! The wakeboarding was thrilling and well-managed, thanks to an amazing skipper who made everything smooth and enjoyable. The crew was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable, which really added to the overall fun. The scenery was gorgeous. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an exciting and memorable day on the water with expert guidance.

The Church of Holy Archangel Michael in Herceg Novi is a serene and tranquil spot located higher against the mountain. Although it appears to be no longer in use, visitors can still enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and stunning views from this location. The church is surrounded by overgrown vegetation, adding to its secluded ambiance. It offers a unique perspective of the city with colorful houses, lush mountains, and boats in the marina visible from its vantage point at the pier in the main harbor.

(Translated by Google) This little church seems to be no longer used. There is no clear walking path from the road, everything is overgrown. The church was closed. Photos from inside were taken through the window. There is a serene tranquility, wonderful to just enjoy the silence. The previous review (by Olivera Veterinar) was posted in the wrong place and concerns the church in the old town of Herceg Novi. This church is located higher, against the mountain. (Original) Dit kleine kerkje lijkt niet meer te worden gebruikt. Vanaf de weg is er geen duidelijk wandelpad, alles is begroeid. De kerk was gesloten. Foto's van binnen zijn door het raampje gemaakt. Saint Michael Archangel Church is a charming Orthodox church located in the heart of Bellavista Square. Despite its small size, it captivates visitors with its authentic and lively surroundings. Beautiful church, in a romantic and pastoral location
Yossi E — Google review
Beautiful Church in the old town area. This church is "among the youngest churches in Novi, completed in its representative form in 1912, with an imposing, unique portal and dome,. The Church of the Holy Archangel Michael, in the Old Town, on the Hereceg Stephan Square, built in the shape of an inscribed cross, with equal arms, built with finely carved blocks of Krčula stone, and according to the design of the architect Milan Karlovac. This temple is decorated with unique Byzantine and Roman-Gothic architectural elements, bas-relief decorations, beautifully proportioned triforias, a frieze of blind arcades under the roof cornices, a Roman-Gothic bell tower on a preslica, and the mosaic of the patron saint of this temple above the entrance door stands out with its particular beauty. The iconostasis is made of white Italian marble, the work of master Pavle Bilinić from Split. The icons on the iconostasis were painted by the Czech painter Franjo Zigler at the beginning of the 20th century. In the great earthquake of 1979, the temple suffered significant damage. Since then, the temple has been renovated several times: in 1991, then in 2011, 2018, and 2022.

Saint Michael Archangel Church / Црква Светог Архангела Михаила A charming little church that stands out with its peaceful presence and open doors – in fact, it was the only church open in the area when we visited. The small building offers a calm and warm atmosphere, inviting visitors for a moment of reflection or quiet prayer. What makes the visit even more special is the surrounding area – the church is located by a lovely square where people gather, sit, and chat. It feels lively and genuine, a place where everyday life meets the spiritual. A beautiful balance between history, faith, and local life. Well worth a visit – both for the tranquility inside the church and the vibrant yet harmonious square outside. ZazaPress

Fortress
Forte Mare Fortress, located above the mountain and along the sea, was originally built in 1382 by Bosnian King Tvrtko and served as an observation post. Over the years, it has been rebuilt multiple times due to changing ownership. Visitors can enjoy a short film about the fortress's history with English subtitles in the basement. The inside of the fort consists of empty rooms and narrow passageways but offers stunning views of Herceg Novi bay at sunset.
Impressive fortification built on a rocky ridge foundation from the 14th century that lies on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. Its unique, complex architectural system represents ruins of an old town with the barracks, prison, administrative buildings, a well cistern, and internal streets. Over the course of the years, this complex architectural structure lost its original attributes. Rising above the sea, the fortress was a part of a unique defense system in the Bay of Kotor against possible attacks from the sea. The fortress has a stunning panoramic view of the bay's entrance and a view of other nearby fortresses like the Citadel and The Bloody Tower (Kanli Tower). Inside the walls of a stronghold is a permanent exhibition of Sea Fortress photographs that are made under different lighting conditions and from different perspectives and a small video room with available seats. Videos are subtitled in the English language and contain some interesting and valuable historical information. Tickets are more than affordable (5€ - 2025.). The staff is pleasant and welcoming. There is a small souvenir stand at the entrance where you can buy unique handmade souvenirs. Unfortunately, the entrance to the fortress is not suitable for people who are using wheelchairs, and there is considerable care necessary if you're visiting with small kids or seniors because of the steepness and tread of the stairs inside the stronghold. In certain places the ceiling is quite low and requires a visitor to lower its head down, but that doesn't actually affect the enjoyment during the exploration of the stronghold. During summer months, when weather conditions allow it, the fortress terrace is used as an open cinema, which adds a special charm to the place and allows visitors to enjoy in kinematography under the open sky. Must-see if you are visiting Herceg Novi.

Savina Winery is a charming family-run winery located above Savina Monastery in Herceg Novi. It offers an authentic Montenegrin wine experience with tasting sessions featuring a selection of excellent local wines, each showcasing the region's unique terroir and grape varieties. The winery tour is not lengthy, but it provides insight into the family's winemaking tradition. The stunning terrace overlooks the Bay and offers a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy their locally produced wines.
Perfect evening enjoying local wines, nibbles and tour of the winery. The tour is run at a leisurely pace and our host was friendly and very knowledgeable. We sampled three wines - a Rose, Chardonnay and Merlot plus a local spirit Grappa. The charcuterie board was delicious and ample for a light evening meal. At €55pp this is excellent value for money and a perfect location to relax and enjoy a sunset across the bay. Note: the driveway is long and steep so either leave with plenty of time if walking or have a local taxi drop you at the vineyard. If you like and appreciate this review please give it a like or a thumbs up so that I know what content to include in future reviews.

We had the absolute pleasure of visiting Savina Winery, and what a truly wonderful experience it was. While it's a very small, local winery, and the tour itself isn't extensive, the overall experience more than makes up for it. The setting is incredibly peaceful, offering a serene escape. We booked an evening slot, and it was simply magical to sit and gaze out over the bay, watching the sunset unfold. There was no rush at all; we were encouraged to relax and truly soak in the breathtaking views. The value for money here is exceptional. For a very reasonable price, the experience includes a grazing board, three different full size portion of their rose, white and red wine to sample, and a local spirit. The wines were so tasty, in fact, that we even made an effort to hunt down one of them on a different night because we enjoyed it so much! The staff at Savina Winery are truly lovely. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcome, adding significantly to the relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. It's clear they are passionate about their wines and their guests' experience. If you're looking for a peaceful, beautiful, and authentic local experience with delicious wines and a stunning sunset view, Savina Winery is an absolute must-do.

Absolutely magnificent in every single way - picturesque location, excellent staff and pristine views of the Bay of Kotor. I am slightly sad we could not take the tour - you have to book this ahead of time - but the staff did their best to make us feel welcome and make recommendations for tasting. I want to put out a special mention to the people working there because one of the children in our party had hurt their leg but the way they distracted him and applied a bandage was so sweet and turned the day around. Do not expect a full meal by any means but the combinations of wine and cheese are beautifully created and the owners deserve a lot of credit for what they have done.

Savina Winery, Herceg Novi, Montenegro: This was our only vineyard visit on our epic Turkey-Montenegro-Croatia-Albania-Macedonia trip, a stark contrast to our usual repertoire of multi-vineyard stops. Award-winning Savina Castel label is family-owned and pedigree too – no exports, only domestic market consumption. So if you love this and don’t live here, you’re screwed. The winery was the golden highlight of our Montenegrin chapter. Giving the tour a miss (we’ve done plenty), we just wanted to sit, stare out into the impossible blue of the sea and take in the astounding panorama. We had the bubbly and talented Paula serving us and engaging us in interesting chats and delivering superb service. There were 3 serves for the basic tier, plus a platter of sorts. While most vineyards work you from crap to premium wine, all 3 were solid. Bottle labels are basic too but the tastes punch quite a shocking palatable punch – chadonnay and cab sauv are not your old-world types. It clearly snubs traditions and carves out a modern note – about time vineyards adapt and evolve, given the downward drinking trend driven by Gen Z in search of experiences. The surrounds are incredible, olive trees abound, and the rattan stylish furnishings and elegant touches create a summer exquisite experience. I’ve never been on such an elevated plane for wine tasting, greeting the expanse of tantalizing blue sea. While vineyard visits converge in offerings, Savina stands out and ticks all the right boxes. #eatstylishtravelstylish

Lovely small winery! Would strongly recommend if you are looking for unique experience, stunning views and adorable atmosphere. We visited twice during our stay in Herzog Novi. Both visits were absolutely amazing. Delicious wines and snacks, beautiful smiling ladies serving you:) Harvest season is coming, so don’t lose your opportunity to see the most important part of wine making process! Jelena, thank you for nice evenings🙏🏻😍 will keep warm memories in our hearts 💕

We were staying down the road at Lazure Hotel, they booked the tour for us and advised us getting a taxi as although a short walk it was very steep but ok to walk back down. We opted for late afternoon so we could go into the old town afterwards and we were the only ones there. The panoramic views were breathtaking! The service was excellent, the wine was delicious. It was quite expensive i suppose but for us worth every penny 🍷❤️

Konoba Feral is a top restaurant in Herceg Novi, Montenegro, offering Italian, Mediterranean, and European cuisine. The place is known for its heaping plates of expertly grilled meats and cold drinks that are best sellers during the hot summer months. With a variety of dishes to choose from, including local beer made in Niksic and refreshing spritzers, visitors are guaranteed to eat well while enjoying their stay in Herceg Novi.
Went for dinner with dinner and the food was great. The staff were quick and polite. Smoked salmon starter and bread was good size and fresh served with garlic butter and salad. The steak was cooked to request and came with vegetables and gnocchi. The spaghetti shrimp was also very tasty.

A great waterfront restaurant serving traditional cuisine, with a wide selection of seafood and fish. Generous portions and delicious dishes, we tried the fish pate and grilled calamari. Beautiful terrace with a view. In high season, it’s better to book a table as the place is very popular. But a tip, check your bill before paying. Once we had a dish added that we didn’t order, but mistakes happen. After notifying the staff, they removed it from the bill without any problem.

This area has lot of restaurants around. We decided to eat here and was extremely delighted with the meal and service. You can choose to sit outside and watch the world go by, or inside in a cozy setting. We had the octopus carpaccio with the sweetest tomatoes. For mains we had the mixed fish skewers. The spinach potato that came with it and carrots were really yummy. And the seafood risotto which was a huge portion. The staff were very friendly as well and made us feel very much at home. Definitely worth a visit!

Sooooo tasty! Can you imagine that carrot can be incredible? Here it is! we ordered fish which is great but vegetables going with it are absolutely awesome, and Kopriva soup….mmm….so cool Highly recommend this place!

A wonderful tavern with a sea view. All the food we had was delicious. I especially loved the Caesar salad (yes, it includes bacon, welcome to the Balkans), for which I returned there for a second time. The veal soup was also excellent.

Excellent Seaside Dining with a Traditional Touch – Highly Recommended! ★★★★ Nestled right on the picturesque Igalo promenade, we had the pleasure of dining at this charming Konoba, which perfectly captures the authentic Montenegrin style. The atmosphere is inviting, and it immediately sets the tone for a delightful meal. The menu offers a good selection of both fresh seafood and meat dishes. We opted for seafood, and it was clear that the ingredients were of the highest quality – impeccably fresh and expertly prepared. Each dish was a testament to the local culinary traditions, executed with skill. Beyond the delicious food, the service was attentive, polite, and genuinely welcoming, contributing significantly to a pleasant dining experience. The cleanliness of the restaurant was also noteworthy, adding to the overall comfort. Considering the quality of the food and the excellent service, the prices were very fair, offering great value. The only minor area for improvement we noted was the dessert selection, which, while pleasant, didn't quite reach the same high standard as the rest of the menu. However, this is a small detail in an otherwise outstanding experience. Overall, this Konoba comes highly suggested for anyone seeking fresh, authentic cuisine, wonderful service, and a beautiful setting in Igalo.
Francesco C — Google review
We came here for my brother's birthday dinner. The drinks were great, we had red and white wine the waiter recommended, a local beer and an aperol spritz. For starters, we shared shopska salads and a Greek salad. Shopska salad was a bit underwhelming as it only had tomato and cheese, but the Greek salad tasted very good. For main dishes, we had a seafood spaghetti, a seafood risotto, chicken with peanuts, and a beefstake in mushroom sauce. The nuts were a bit weird with the chicken, but otherwise, everything tasted amazing. The portion sizes were huge though; we wouldn't have needed the starters to feel full. Our server was wonderful and asked us about the Finnish language and coversed with us. If you have a pet allergy, I wouldn't recommend the place since the bosses dog sleeps under the tables and a cat wonders around there as well.

Located in the heart of Herceg Novi, Gradska Kafana is a must-visit spot offering a delightful dining experience. Situated in a historical Empire-style building on Njegoseva, this iconic cafe and restaurant boasts stunning views of the bay and town. The upper floor features a charming coffee house with a terrace, while the lower floor houses the restaurant where you can savor delicious local cuisine and fresh seafood.
Gradska Kafana has a really cozy atmosphere and a fantastic view over the Bay of Kotor. We had ice cream, tiramisu, and freshly squeezed orange juice – the juice and ice cream were very good and refreshing. The tiramisu was a bit disappointing though, not the best. Unfortunately, there was some construction outside that made it quite noisy, but apart from that, it was a good and relaxing experience. I would definitely consider coming back – especially for the view and the nice vibe.

Waiter Petar Jovanovic is the impression of the day. Very low-key and non-aggressive. His spontaneous behavior led us to order brandy and breakfast in addition to coffee. Excellent food, wonderful music and a great atmosphere.. Quality guaranteed. All recommendations!

Gradska kafana was one of first places my mom took me when I was little. I visited many times during my childhood and adulthood. Operation: Gradska Kafana The rain had just stopped when the message came — a smudged set of coordinates, pressed into my palm by a stranger in the shadow of a crumbling wall. “You’ll know it when you see it,” they murmured, disappearing into the maze of crowds of Herceg Novi. The hill rose like a quiet dare, every step stealing more air than the last. The sun peeked out—opening a little more with each turn—winding past the hum of open-air markets, sun-baked beachgoers, and the salt-snap of Adriatic air. Heat shimmered off the ground, and the city unfolded above me in fragments until I reached the restaurant that deserved every bit of the spotlight it found itself in. There it was. Gradska Kafana. At the doorway, exactly as promised, a beautiful couple frozen in a perfect frame, the sea glinting behind them like a polished secret. Inside, the terrace hummed with the low murmur of patrons from everywhere and nowhere — eyes glancing, conversations dipped in foreign tongues. Were they watching me, or was I watching them? A bright blue-eyed waiter Mitskevich appeared, his smile equal parts welcome and riddle. He slid the menu into my hands. The medallion steak stood out like a cipher hidden in plain sight. I accepted the mission and he nodded. The first cut — tender, rich, and seared to perfection — unlocked something deep in my chest. The roasted vegetables carried the earth’s warmth; the bread, still breathing steam, melted into memory. Cool mineral water slid down like a tide returning to shore, bringing with it the taste of salt and stone. The view before me — the Adriatic stretching into forever — became the final piece of the puzzle. This was no ordinary meal. This was the blueprint, the energy, the anchor I needed to continue. When I left Gradska Kafana, I carried more than a full stomach. I carried a quiet certainty that the world could still be saved—though only with meals like this.

Good for a lunch and dinner, nice view, they are quite fast with bringing food and drinks, recepit aswell. Food is good, nothing special, waiter is not really dedicated to you the whole time (pouring the water for you, asking if anything is missing, etc.), most of the times he is chatting with other (5-6) waitres.

If you want something out of ordinary, this is the place to have a dinner at. Beautiful interior and breath taking view. The food is fantastic and so aswell the service. We had domestic wite wine from Vinery Savina. Five stars on that one!!! In my opinion the only thing that brings it down from five stars is that they don't have domestic coffe "domaća kafa" which is a bit strange because they have fantastic domestic brandy, which goes perfectly with a Domaća kafa. Highely recommended!

The Spanish Fortress, also known as "The Upper Town" (Gornji grad), is a historic site in Montenegro that dates back to the 16th century. Initially built by the Spaniards in 1538, it was later fortified by the Ottoman Empire with high walls and round bastions. Over the years, it saw use and renovations by various powers including the Venetian Republic and Austro-Hungarian Empire.
If you have studied the embankment along and across and you would like to retire, look at the bay from above and think about the history of mankind and architecture, then you are here. If you are interested in the construction of ancient small fortifications and forts, then the contours of the buildings are well preserved here. From here, the passage to the bay from the sea is perfectly visible and you can imagine yourself in the place of the defender of this region, looking into the distance.

About a mile from seafront if herceg novi is this fortress a walk uphill. Its free to enter and walk around walls and a few buildings within it. Offers food views of town etc. Very quiet when visiting only a handful of visitors.
Steve D — Google review
Very cool as a contrast to the other forts in Herceg Novi. Nature has claimed back the fort and there's almost no signage around the place other than a board by the front gate. At first, I wondered why the place looked so scruffy, but as I walked, explored and climbed around the fort, I came to appreciate it for being so unkept. It's a fort that's fallen out of use and has not been set up and prepared to receive tourists (not in a big way at least) and it's worth a visit for this reason and for the view from the walls over the bay. It was free to enter and I only saw one other person while there.
Ryan F — Google review
Possibly the best view of the entrance to Kotor bay. I can clearly see the strategic importance of this spot. It is a very impressive place but the sad thing is that it is severely neglected and therefore not very friendly for visitors. Surely, you can freely walk around, but some parts of the fortress are in such bad condition that you must think about safety before you examine every corner of it. The interesting thing is that the fortress is built by the Turks and as far as I know the actual Spanish fortress was on the same spot during their very short rule of the city but the Turks built a brand new fortress on the foundations of the Spanish fortress. I'm rating this place high only because of the wonderful view and I hope that some restorations will take place in the near future.

Entrance is free. Good views of the Bay of Kotor, Herceg Novi and the mountains. I recommend walking around there with closed shoes. What is interesting about the fort is that there are various buildings inside it that are quite well preserved. I definitely recommend walking around there a bit.

Perfect for the exploring tourist. Away from all the crowds with a great walk past all the gardens from the road. Easy to explore this abandoned fortress and be relatively undisturbed by other tourists (and no entrance fee). Great views across the bay and out to the Adriatic. When standing at the top of the side closest to Bay you get a great view of Tito's abandoned villa in the neighboring town Igalo.

I enjoyed myself and my meal here. My waiter was relaxed, attentive and humorous. He suggested the fish as it was fresh and delivered earlier in the morning and his suggestion turned out to be perfect. Fresh, crispy on the outside and flavorful on the insides. The local red wine was yummy and the limoncello spritz perfect on a hot and humid day!

We heard good things about the roadside joint and wanted to try it but instead went to the sit-down restaurant because we had children with us. The first thing was that the staff were fantastic - two young guys and they were so welcoming to all of us and put together a few tables so that we could sit together. After that, we ordered some delicious food and the portions were absolutely huge. We all struggled and let us say we had to take a lot home! Long story short, it was a great meal at an incredible price and highly recommended for anyone visiting Herceg Novi.

Service is great. The ambiance is nice. As for food, our group was happy with their cevapcicis and pljeskavica. The black risotto was good but rice was too al dente. And the octopus was also good but it was fried instead of grilled. Tamjanika was the best wine choice for the sea food dishes. In average, a good experience by Skver.

This was amazing. We passed this place on our way down from the old down to fort marine and saw a lot of locals line up for a pljeskavica. We didn’t think it was a dine-in restaurant, but rather a hidden gem so we marked it down to come back to on our way back. We then discovered that this was a full-blown restaurant with a really cozy atmosphere. The food and drinks were all amazing, the service was really thoughtful and surprisingly quick! We tasted the pljeskavica and the fresh catch of the day and both were absolutely amazing. Size of an adult man’s fist for scale - come hungry!

With narrow stone streets winding through the town, you'll discover picturesque plazas adorned with centuries-old churches. The iconic Clock Tower, dating back to the 17th century, stands proudly at the heart of this historic area alongside Kanli Kula Fortress, which not only offers breathtaking views but also serves as a cultural hub for summer events.
An impressive old town... very cute and small in size...with a church at the middle and small lanes with cafe/restaurants and stores.... there are few stores that are very old in this street...

It’s a very cute a small city center, the little church in the middle of the main square is a picturesque view. Maps are scattered all around and help you navigate, very nice touch. The only thing I did not like was the state in which the fortresses are kept, I would have expected more since they’re candidates to enter the UNESCO sites list. The parking is really difficult, since the only way to pay is through SMS, very difficult with an eSIM that only has internet (App was not working).

The Old Town of Herceg Novi is a hidden gem on the Montenegrin coast, offering a perfect blend of history, charm, and stunning sea views. Nestled on a hillside, the town is a maze of narrow stone streets, centuries-old buildings, and charming squares that tell the story of various civilizations—Ottoman, Venetian, Austro-Hungarian—all of which left their mark on the architecture and atmosphere. The main square, Belavista, is the heart of the old town and features the beautiful St. Michael’s Church with its unique blend of styles. Climbing the Kanli Kula fortress rewards you with panoramic views over the Bay of Kotor, especially magical during sunset. The Clock Tower, built by the Turks in the 17th century, stands as one of the town’s most iconic landmarks and serves as a gateway to this historic core. What sets Herceg Novi apart is its authentic, less-touristy feel compared to nearby cities like Kotor or Budva. Local cafes, family-run restaurants, and art galleries add life without overcrowding. The stone stairways connecting the town to the coastline create a unique vertical experience. This is a place where history, tranquility, and coastal beauty meet. For travelers seeking culture with a view, Herceg Novi’s Old Town delivers.

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Herceg Novi, Konoba Škver is a seafood haven that draws both locals and tourists alike. Its prime location by the sea means it’s often bustling with visitors, especially during peak seasons. While some may find the crowds overwhelming, many swear by its reputation as one of the best spots for fresh seafood in town. The ambiance is delightful, particularly if you can snag a table right at the water's edge, offering stunning views over the harbor.
I came to this restaurant as a part of a company retreat, and I can see why it was chosen, for sure. The food is absolutely amazing. Whilst they are predominantly focused on seafood, they have other options too to accommodate everyone's palette, and it is of no lesser quality than the seafood, I must say. Good selection of drinks as well, although they could expand their beer menu a bit. The ambience is amazing though, as the restaurant is literally right by the port, so you can just look out and gaze into the waters and see some fish passing by. They also seem to regularly have live music here as well, and although I'm usually really not a fan of live music, truth be told, I sort of enjoyed it here, it was really pleasant as a matter of fact. The visit to the restaurant was truly a memorable one, and I would cordially invite other people to come and dine here as well.

★★★★ Nestled right at sea level in the charming port, Konoba Skver is a historic restaurant that truly captures the essence of its beautiful location. The setting is simply perfect for a seafood lover's meal. The restaurant boasts an impressive menu of fish dishes, and it's clear that freshness is a top priority here. We tried a variety of seafood, and everything from the grilled fish to the Mediterranean-style pasta and risotto dishes was expertly prepared and delicious. The flavors were authentic, and the quality of the main ingredients was outstanding. The service was both attentive and courteous, adding to the pleasant atmosphere, and the restaurant was very clean. The dessert selection was another highlight, offering a delightful end to the meal. We also appreciated the extensive wine list, which features a wide variety of options to complement the seafood. The only slight imperfection in an otherwise excellent meal was with the mussels; while tasty, they could have been cleaned more thoroughly on the outside. This was a minor detail, however, and did not detract significantly from our overall enjoyment. Highly recommended for anyone looking for high-quality, fresh seafood and a wonderful dining experience right on the water.

Konoba Škver is located at the best spot in town - on the curb of the town port, next to the waterpolo club & stadium. Dining at the port, watching in front of me moored boats at sunset is just priceless, an experience I can never get enough of. This traditional restaurant serves variety of local traditional dishes, most of which seafood specialties prepared from fresh seafood & fish delivered directly to the restaurant by local fishermen. Very friendly, yet professional service, without much waiting to get served. I was served expertly by smiling, polite Nikola Vuković, who was very patient to answer all my questions about the menu and recommend dishes! Portions just right, food arrived piping hot. The restaurant opens at noon and closes at midnight. However, the kitchen closes at 23:00 This place is open throughout the year.

In my opinion, the place is overrated. While the food is good, it isn't exceptional. The prices are on par with those of much more comfortable places in the city. Škver is crowded, the tables are uncomfortably arranged, and overall, it is not a pleasant place to spend time.
Essentia G — Google review
We were looking for a fish restaurant and locals recommended Konoba Škver. Located right on the waterfront in Herceg Novi, the atmosphere was relaxed and authentic, and we were looked after by Slavko, a classic old-school Yugoslav-style waiter; professional, no-nonsense, with the perfect touch of charm. We wanted fish for our main course and Slavko brought out a platter of freshly caught fish for us to choose from, which emphasised the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Everything was simply prepared and full of flavour, letting the food speak for itself. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re getting a real taste of the Adriatic, both in terms of food and hospitality. Highly recommended if you're after an authentic local experience.

The Venetian Citadel, also known as Citadela, stands proudly in the city of Herceg Novi. Originally built by the Venetian Republic to protect the city from sea invasions, it has undergone significant modifications over time. Although it suffered damage in a 1979 earthquake, this coastal fortress remains a symbol of strength and history. Today, Citadela offers breathtaking views and is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
Didn’t set out to come here for a drink tonight…and I’m late to where I originally planned to be, but just couldn’t resist this eclectic atmosphere so I decided to make an unplanned stop for a glass of a local red wine Vranac🍷 I my understanding is that no food is served at this coffee bar based next to Forte Mare castle on the square with the most spectacular view of the entrance of the Boka bay. However, the bartender kindly offered me hog roast & sauerkraut salad brought by the owner for a collegiate pre-new year celebration🎉🎉🎉 Highly recommended to anyone wishing to experience a very local atmosphere with Yugoslav pop & rock music from the golden 80’s🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Amazing atmosphere🌟Great service too🫶🏻

The iced latte here and the croissants/cakes were all amazing! So refreshing on a hot day. The staff are also nice. Restroom for customers.

I'm so glad I discovered this coffee bar on my last day in herceg Novi. The coffee served here was certainly the best I've tasted since travelling around Montenegro. Great food, great friendly service, and of course great views. 5/5 for everything. Go check them out.

The Rosemarine Restaurant offers a delightful ambiance, created by a fantastic team who are incredibly attentive and engaging to assist you in making informed decisions. The cuisine is flawlessly presented, with the flavors skillfully combined. The prices are reasonable, although the wine list, containing a charming assortment of regional favorites rather than just local options, may be slightly pricier. This establishment is definitely worth seeking out when in Herceg Novi.
A lovely dining experience. The waiters are laid back but attentive, the location is superb with a view over the marina. The food was very fresh, tasteful and presented elegantly. I would say it is very good value for money, if you’re around the Herceg-Novi area I would recommend picking the Rosemarine restaurant.

Higher than average but justifiable prices. Delicious, rich food with pleasant views across the marina. The menu caters for all dietary preferences. Service is friendly & attentive with good knowledge on pairing wines with main dishes. If you like and appreciate this review please give it a like or a thumbs up so that I know what content to include in future reviews.

This is the main restaurant at the Lazure Hotel. It is set next to a small and exclusive marina. The setting and design are beautiful. The waiting staff were really great and spoke excellent English. The food was delicious and fairly reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend even if not staying at the hotel. Booking should be considered in the peak season but as we were there beginning of September there was no need for reservations.
LEIGH B — Google review
Rosemarine absolutely blew us away. The food was stunning: we had the salmon crudo, the ravioli doppio, the sea bass papillon, and the lamb shoulder, and everything was a perfect 10/10. If the Michelin Guide came to Herceg Novi, Rosemarine would have a star! The setting itself is beautiful - the Lazure hotel is one of the most incredible hotels I’ve been inside of, and it clearly is the standout in this part of Montenegro. There are historical artifacts all around you. Finally, the service was top-notch. Our waiter, Uroš, was among the best waiters I've ever had – and my father agreed! He’s actually the manager, but waits tables because he enjoys it, and it shows. This was such an amazing evening, and one that will live long in the memory. Thank you!!!

Very good food, friendly service and a beautiful place and setting! We had the amazing tuna tataki, the ravioli with truffle and the risotto with saffron! The cocktails and wine was really nice as well! Highly recommend!

Drunk Octopus Bar is a charming and cozy spot with a fantastic view, offering a great selection of craft beers from Montenegro and neighboring countries. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly, reminiscent of favorite craft beer bars in other cities. Visitors can enjoy the lovely view of the sea while sipping on delicious Belgian fruit beers or their own brewed IPA. The outside area provides a pleasant setting to indulge in fine craft beer and soak up the good vibes.

Really nice beer-bar, with a beautifully view and good atmosphere. Was nice that they even had some great, dry funky ciders. Small food menu, but enough to create a (even vegetarian) good dinner :)

We entered the place in the afternoon, on the way to the old town. Had spicy Wings and country style potatoes which were tasty. Also had tonic water and local POLACO IPA beer which was very cold and very fresh. The service was friendly, although it took a lot of time (well more than 20 minutes) for the food to arrive.

We stopped for a drink, as a big ale / beer fan it was good to see lots on offer in both draught and bottles (also non alcoholic) the chap behind the bar was very friendly and helpful - the bar itself was really cool and the outside bit had fantastic views. The only downside was a plastic cup if you were outside but I understand why if the bar is governed by local laws or policies, always best to drink a pint out of a nice cold glass though. Very cool bar, would recommend a visit.

FABRIKA COFFEE in Herceg Novi is a must-visit for coffee enthusiasts. Located in the old town, it's a favorite spot that won't disappoint. This specialty coffee shop offers a variety of single origins for espresso and milk-based drinks. The hospitality of co-owner Angela stands out, making it a delightful experience for customers. With its charming atmosphere and excellent flat white, this place is perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee while soaking up the old town charm.
This is the best Coffee place we have been to in the whole of Montenegro! Very good Coffee blends and a great selection of different drinks as well as milks. They are maybe the only place in Montenegro where you can get DECAF coffee!! The atmosphere is super sweet and chill. Awesome place for a pit stop while visiting Herceg Novi.
Georg B — Google review
Wonderful café located on a small lovely street in the old town, the most beautiful part of the city. The atmosphere is lovely, we enjoyed some local beer and coffee - although not the best specialty coffee, I loved the whole experience, as this may be the most beautiful café in the area.
Ana S — Google review
Really wasn’t as blown away by this place as I expected. It didn’t seem like anything special which was disappointing! I ordered an oat flat white and a lemon cake, and my partner an iced tea and a cheese toasted sandwich. I liked my coffee, but it was much more bitter than I expected for specialty. The lemon cake was absolutely amazing though! My partner’s iced tea was incredibly sweet, and his toasted sandwich “fine”. They then didn’t have a toilet available which was a little frustrating!

Such an eclectic cafe with a good selection of coffee. Loved the outdoor patio— you could spend hours here. They have vegan milk options too.

After 2 weeks in Montenegro we didn’t find hardly any good coffee but this is hands down the best (we even took an hour 30 min drive to drink their coffee in Podgorica). If you are serious about your coffee it’s definitely worth a visit, also very good lemon cake and all at a good price.

Coffee shop
Koffein Specialty coffee shop is a popular spot in Herceg Novi, located on the stairs leading up to Nikola Djurkovic Square. Visitors have praised the beautiful Flat White and the friendly service provided by the owner. The coffee shop offers a variety of specialty coffees, with some considering it as the best in Montenegro. The welcoming and relaxed atmosphere makes it a favorite for both locals and tourists alike.
I’ve been coming to this café every single day, and it’s safe to say it’s become a part of my daily ritual. The coffee? Easily the best in town. Whether it’s a classic cappuccino or something a bit different, every cup is top-notch. Right now, I’m obsessed with their espresso freddo – smooth, strong, and perfectly chilled. It’s my current favorite and a must-try if you’re into bold, refreshing coffee. On top of that, they offer some really tasty bites – just enough to keep you satisfied without taking away from the main event: the coffee. The atmosphere is always on point – relaxed, welcoming, and somehow both energizing and cozy. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick caffeine fix or settling in for a longer stay, this spot just gets it right. Highly recommended for any true coffee lover.

Best specialty coffee in town! Herceg Novi is lucky to have such a place. Also it is located in a beautiful spot and has a very photogenic interior😍 We were happy to discover Koffein on the first day of our trip and had no trouble searching our “dose of happiness” on the following days as well 🫶🏼

I had a wonderful experience at this café! The owner personally roasts the coffee, and they offer a great variety of beans from places like Brazil and Ethiopia. The flavor was rich and well-balanced — you can really taste the quality. The service was excellent, and the owner is very friendly and clearly passionate about coffee. It’s a cozy spot that I’d definitely recommend to any coffee lover.

Came here this morning for a coffee before leaving the city. I had a cold brew, and my partner had a raspberry iced tea (they also had mint available!). I really liked my coffee, and it was served to me in a bottle with a glass with ice. This meant that I could drink as much or as little as I wanted and I ended up taking part of it away when I was caffeinated enough! The raspberry iced tea was also delicious! The member of staff was friendly and helpful and the order was taken quickly. I really liked this place, definitely the best coffee shop I found in Herceg Novi!

Best cacao latte in Herceg Novi! My mom and me went for a hot beverage, she got cappuccino (and she loved it) and I tried cacao latte with oat milk. It was exquisite! Just organic cacao powder with a bit of warm water and warm milk. No added sugars or additives. Mr. Rade that made the drink was polite and professional. Huge recommendation!

Market
During my travels, I always seek out local markets, and discovering Gradska Pijaca in Herceg Novi was a delightful surprise. While on the hunt for a pharmacy, I stumbled upon this charming market that may be small but is bursting with life. As I strolled through its aisles, I was captivated by the vibrant displays of fresh fruits and vegetables alongside an impressive selection of meats and cheeses.
My local market is particularly wonderful in spring and summer, when the air might smell of strawberries, peaches, or cherries. While produce from far-off places is available, the items from nearby farms have the best flavor. Look for signs saying 'domaca,' which means 'local'. Fresh cheese and other dairy products are available at an indoor section, there are butchers and fish markets along the edge, and products like honey, pickled veggies, and fruit syrups can be found at many stands.

Beach Topla is a public beach in Montenegro, featuring a cement beach with both paid sunbeds and a large free section. It's ideal for those who enjoy diving, searching for shells, and swimming among fish and crabs. The atmosphere is peaceful without loud music or singers, making it perfect for relaxation. Visitors can also find reasonably priced restaurants nearby. Additionally, the beach offers amenities such as toilets, showers, and lifeguards.
It is part of walking area``Pet danica`` and it is georgeous, so as the rest of the coast!

Music is too loud, anoying and awfully picked. The kind of music they are playing does not fit the place. The beach misses much more ladders for entering and exiting the sea than it is provided. Changing booths should be washed off every morning because during the night people come and urinate in them. For beach visitors, hotel should provide a toilet at a certain spot.

Splendido is a restaurant located in a touristy area with a great selection of local and frozen seafood. The garlic sauce is highly recommended, and all dishes are well-prepared with amazing taste. However, the place faces a public beach, which can bring some downsides like noise and smoking neighbors. The staff is okay but not overly friendly. Despite this, the location offers a beautiful view of the sea and creates a welcoming atmosphere with good music.
Great selection of local and frozen seafood. Garlic sauce is top notch. All dishes were well prepared no overcooking or undercooking. Taste was amazing. Same sides for most of plates though. The place is facing public beach with all downsides of it: noise, random music, not so sexy barely dressed bodies and shouting kids. Chance of smoking neighbors is high too. Staff is … okay, as usual: no smiles, not much of assistance, no friendliness Price/taste is moderate considering touristic location.

5 Stars – A Waterfront Gem! I had a wonderful experience at Peter’s Pie and Coffee in Herceg Novi! The staff were super helpful and friendly—and spoke English, which made things easy. I enjoyed a delicious slice of pie and a great cup of coffee while sitting right on the waterfront. The outdoor seating is limited, but I was lucky to get a table. There are also a couple of seats inside, along with a clean restroom. The vibe is relaxed, the Wi-Fi is free, and the offerings are absolutely delicious. A perfect little spot to take a break and enjoy the view. Highly recommended! @Erowid_Spark on YouTube

Vegetarian & vegan cafeteria Peters Pie & Coffee is one of my favourite coffee places on the Pet Danica seaside promenade (Šetalište) between Igalo & Topla neighbourhoods in Herceg Novi. And not least for the dreamy sea view and direct view of Villa Sofia, perched proudly on Ilino hill un the middle of Žvinje village. The atmosphere in this cafe is so inviting, warm and incredibly calm that I often stop here to contemplate while watching the world go by. This cafeteria garden tables spread along the promenade, each table with a sea view. Unlike many other places, Peters coffee is open throughout the year. Freshly baked vegan muffins daily as well as mushroom, pumpkin & spinach pies. Scrumptious salads, omelets & sandwiches pair nicely with cold pressed veggie juices or Chinese leaf tea. Three types of sourdough bread available to order, including gluten & wheat free option. Although you will need to order one day ahead and collect the following morning around 9am. Variety of organic leaf tea from the mountain Durmitor pairs perfectly with the pear & Gorgonzola cheese bun.

Great location next to the water along a busy pathway. The service was quick and the Baileys cheesecake was lovely. The only thing I'd say was that we asked for an extra hot cappuccino but it only arrived warm. It was good coffee though. The waiter serving us was really pleasant and it's quite a busy little spot.

This is a cute little cafe. I arrived after breakfast hours (breakfast ends at 12). I sat in a shaded table and ordered a cappuccino. I asked for recommendations on the quiche and ended up getting a pumpkin piece. It came with some veggies and sour cream. It was fast as well. All fresh and home made. The coffee was fantastic and the food was pretty good. I also found out they sell sourdough bread, you just need to order a day ahead of time. The bread was amazing! It was not cheap, at €5 but worth it. If you ask nicely, they will even cut it for you. I'll definitely be back

Definitely some of the nicest coffee I had in Montenegro. I'd love to see a lighter roast though. The "premium" option tastes very darkly roasted mostly tastes of the roast with little of the characteristics of the actual coffee. Still it seemed to be well extracted and balanced espresso

Delicious food. Had the best waiter service in Montenegro. As he said, quoting "I am from Yugoslavia". The location is premium and if you manage to get the tables next to the beach, the meal will be even more special (with the sunset). Price wise is expensive but given food quality, offer, service and location, some can say that it is fair.

We had with the 5 of us 2 fantastic diners. The location on the peer is superb! The scenery cannot be improved. We were a little annoyed by the mixed music from different places. The food was very nice, so good we wanted to go back a second time. We very much appreciated the meet&greet with the owner, Alexandra, who took the time to not only find out our impressions of the restaurant , she was also interested in our story. We also very much appreciated the service by Vladimir, who 3 days after our first visit still 100% correctly remembered our meals and drinks. Impressive. A strong recommendation from the Grégoir family from Belgium!

Our experience at this restaurant was quite disappointing. Even though we clearly mentioned that we were in a hurry, we ended up waiting almost two hours for the main course, which is simply unacceptable. We had ordered it at the same time as the starter. The starter was decent and of acceptable quality, but the main dish, which arrived very late, was extremely poor – lacking flavor and far below expectations, especially for a place that promotes itself as offering quality cuisine. The waitress was polite and tried her best, but that wasn’t enough to make up for the overall negative experience. I wouldn’t return or recommend this restaurant.
Marko C — Google review
First time eating octopus, and it was excellent and delicious and tasty, the atmosphere was so quiet with beautiful views, the location is comfortable and view are perfect, pļjeskavicka was tasty, soft delicious. And at the end I decided to eat tiramisu, this was the best tiramisu I’ve ever eaten in my life I LOVE IT

Overall a disappointing seafood restaurant experience I’m sorry to say. We had high hopes from reading online reviews and seeing online recommendations but it didn’t live upto expectations. King Prawn starter which we shared wasn’t served piping hot but lukewarm warm at best. My wife’s bbq seafood skewer was fresh and tasted good although appeared to be served with frozen potato wedges not fresh. My John Dory main came with cold polenta, they offered to provide some hot polenta but I declined and just ate the fish which was ok. Restaurant decor is also very dark and dated. People with tables outside overlooking the sea may have a different experience.

Konoba Kantula, a seafood restaurant, recently faced an issue with one of its waiters. However, the management handled the situation professionally and resolved the matter. An updated review reflects this positive action. The original review mentioned dishonest tactics and poor service, specifically an inflated fraudulent bill without itemized charges. Further inquiry led to a 30% decrease in the bill amount when a detailed receipt was requested.
Really loved the food! Seafood was perfect, sopska salata and the house wine- excellent. Full of taste. Music was on point as well. Lovely definitely recommend!

Best food in the Herzegovina-novi ate here on several occasions as we found the chef and staff to be excellent.not the plushest position but the food makes up for it and relatively inexpensive would recommend to anyone

I visited this restaurant twice with my parents, and both times were excellent! On our first visit, our waiter Jovan recommended trying shark, swordfish, and tuna. The dishes were fantastic — especially the shark. None of us had ever tried it before, and we were all impressed by how delicious it was. On the second day, we couldn’t resist ordering shark again, this time with swordfish, and once again it was outstanding. I also tried lobster for the first time — it was very tasty and turned into another great new experience for us. Jovan was an excellent waiter: attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu. His recommendations really made our meals special. Overall, both visits were memorable, and I’d happily recommend this place to anyone looking for fresh seafood and great service!

Very nice restaurant, at the sea shore. They have great food, especially sea food. Daily fresh fish was extraordinary. Wine selection is very good, there are many local Montenegrin wines. Staff is very polie and helpful, they give great recomendations.

Restaurant
Konoba Karaca is a restaurant that may not live up to the expectations of mussels lovers, but this could be attributed to the time of year. Nevertheless, their mussels are still enjoyable and reasonably priced, with generous portions. Situated outside the bustling tourist area, this laid-back establishment offers affordability and a lack of sea views. The eatery boasts down-to-earth vibes and specializes in a delectable white fish soup thickened with rice.
Walking by this restaurant to the old town of Herceg Novi I had a feeling that our dinner place should be this one later on when returning. And I was not disappointed. A gentle young waiter greeted us and remembered our order perfectly without writing anything down. Food was great, I could not finish my juicy Cevapi as the portion was huge and I had to eat all the soft goulash ordered for the toddler as well. My wife ordered the octopus and that was seriously the best Octopus of Montenegro, juicy, soft and the right amount of everything. Well, we ate at many different places in Montenegro, but there is a reason I chose to write my only review about this great foodie castle. Keep up the good work Karaca people. Hvala ! 🤗
Kristaps V — Google review
Not recommended. Used to be a great place. Prices and portion sizes were fair. Now the menu says 500 grams of mussels. But they obviously bring significantly less. Beer at 0.3 volumes costs like 0.5. Pleskavitsa is average, used to be much better. The bread they brought was clearly not fresh. Avoid this place. There are much better options around.
Ars V — Google review
This is the proof than not every renovation is beneficial for the facility… Karaca was one of the synonyms when it comes to excellent food, in authentic location for fair prices… After it is renovated, still it is solid restaurant, worth of visiting, primarily cause of the atmosphere and location. Prices are still fair, but portions are smaller and in the same time less delicious. Meet side - U will eat better in some fast food Sea food - eatable, but thats all Mussels - strong recommendation Risotto - decent and worth of trying
Nemanja K — Google review
We were recommended this place due to its authentic and warm atmosphere. However our experience was very underwhelming. Olives came straight from a jar and were labelled as authentic, domestic olives - they tasted rather off. Half of the menu was blocked out and we were unable to order what we wanted. The wine tasted like vinegar and like it had been sat opened for a very long time. The meat I had tasted as if it was frozen. Pastas were very bland. Food was very very overpriced for what it was - was very excited to get some nice authentic food but unfortunately we had to pay a big bill for some bad food .

Beautifully located restaurant. Nice and polite server who informed us of the allergens and gluten-free options. We had stuffed calamari and ćevapi. Big portions and low prices. Plus you have a view at the entrance of the old town. I highly recommend and would come back, if we weren’t in Herceg Novi only for one day!

Delicious food and friendly staff! We came here because last night we smelled nice seafood from their kitchen :) Big portion and at a reasonable price.

It was the best pasta we have ever had. We highly recommend seafood pasta and napolitan pasta🍝

Used to be much, much better but food we got Today is everything but not food. Medium beefsteak (photo added) that was well done and not a beefsteak at all, it was more like cooked meat... Fish stew that had almost no taste (completely bland)... Mussels were great though. Awesome service and great atmosphere, gotta give them that. :) Not sure what happened but this was so much better place (food wise) few years back.

Admiral Cafe & Restaurant is a delightful Mediterranean eatery located at the main city harbor, offering stunning views of the bay, mountains, old town, and castle. The restaurant features a small but quality menu with an emphasis on fresh fish and Italian Mediterranean cuisine. Guests praise the friendly and helpful waitstaff who provide excellent service even during busy times. Despite its initial appearance as a touristy spot, patrons are pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices and high-quality food.
This Mediterranean restaurant at the main city harbor offers a delightful blend of fish and Italian Mediterranean cuisine. With stunning sea and city views, impeccable service, and exceptional food, it's a must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience.

I don't want nor like to bring down a place based on 1 night only, but also that 1 night will decide whether you'll have a second one or not.... It wasn't the greatest dining experience we had during our sailing week in the area. For such a location, service and food should be better than normal. Maybe the chef was new, or experiencing new ways of cooking, maybe the waiters were tired at the end of the day...
Marc-Antoine K — Google review
I recommend visiting this place. Not because of the food (it's pretty average) or the restaurant itself (it looks outdated and a bit too fancy at the same time), but because of the stunning views of the sea and the town. We had dinner there during the golden hour, and it was a truly pleasant experience thanks to the beautiful scenery.
Essentia G — Google review
We waited for over an hour for our food, and when it finally arrived, both the starter and main course were served at the same time. The excuse was that they were busy, even though half the tables were empty. The food was okay, but we received no compensation for the poor service.
Amanda S — Google review
Medium rare fillet steak, vegetables with pepper sauce and extra chips were fantastic. Couldn't ask for a better location. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Great Restaurant with fantastic view over the bay with the mountains, the old town and the castle. The food here is very good and it comes with a normal price tag. They serve fresh fish which is on display at the entrance. The two waithers are the best, always friendly and helpfull even when the place is full. We give them an extra thumbs Up!

Nestled right across from the Town Cafe, Bife Beograd stands as a beloved gem in Herceg Novi's vibrant culinary scene. This charming spot is not just a cafe; it's steeped in history, having been frequented by Nobel Laureate Ivo Andric for his morning coffee and newspaper read. Perfectly positioned at the start of the pedestrian area, it offers an ideal vantage point for people-watching, especially from its upstairs terrace that boasts some of the best views in town.
Sit on the terrace for a great view (you will need to climb stairs through) Average spending ~8€ per person, card is accepted Bacon was cooked to absolute perfection Portions were generous We also got a couple of teas and lemonade for sharing

Cute place with great service. I gave 4 stars for food simply because i ordered pasta arrabiata and it wasn't spicy at all like not even a little bit. Burger that my friend had was amazing and fries too. All in all i really recommend this place 😊😊

Bife Beograd have had the best burger I've ever had on this month of traveling! The BB burger came with crispy bacon and a semi runny egg, the burger patty was cooked to perfection, the waiter even asked us how we wanted the patty cooked beforehand. I got to taste the sandwich with prosciutto as well, it was well balanced with salt savory and sweet! All of the other members of my family also really likee their meals. The waiters showed a good understanding of English, and they were very nice and pretty funny if the opening allowed it. I would also recommend the drink blue frog, it was delicious. And these are the reasons that I'll give them a 5/5 across the board 👍

Bife Beograd in Herceg Novi is a fantastic place to enjoy tasty food and a welcoming atmosphere. The portions are generous, prices are fair, and everything is prepared with authentic flavor. The staff are friendly and attentive, which makes the experience even better. Whether for a relaxed lunch or a nice evening out, this is a spot you’ll want to return to. Highly recommended if you’re in Herceg Novi and want great food with genuine hospitality, best view of the boka kotorska, great coffee and INSTITUT LOZA 🙌

We went here 3 times and the service and the food quality was aleays really nice. It's busier than the rest of the places (with both locals and tourists), which is always a good sign. The fish soup was really good. It's a lil bit more expensive than an average place in Herceg-Novi, but at least you won't be disappointed with the service and food
Yevhen H — Google review
The waiter assured me the beef came with baked potato. He served me French fries. Then when I commented he tried to convince me that the French fries were baked potato. He was not interested in checking with the kitchen either. Embarrassing for a highly rated restaurant with ‘bife’ in the name? 🤨

Specialty Museums
The Local Museum Mirko Komnenović is a captivating destination that showcases the rich history and culture of the region. Housed in an exquisite baroque palace from Austro-Hungarian times, this museum boasts stunning architectural details both inside and out. Visitors can explore a variety of exhibits, including traditional costumes, musical instruments, and tools that reflect the area's heritage. The preserved rooms of the former residents offer a glimpse into life in bygone eras without restrictive signs—an inviting touch for guests.
Wonderful place for a short visit if you're exploring the history of Herceg Novi. The city museum "Mirko Komnenović" is set in a quiet area of the town's center, in the middle of a small, botanical garden that dates back in time almost 200 years ago. In the reception area you can buy more than affordable tickets, that can be used as postcards after the visit. A more than welcoming and well-mannered curator of the permanent museum exhibition will kindly answer questions related to the history of town, museum and museum exhibits among which you can see even the artifacts that date way back to 5 centuries B.C. One of the museum's most beautiful pieces is a parapet plate, from the 2nd half of the 11th century that belongs to the final pre-Romanesque art and represents the scene of angels who are adoring the cross from the church of st. Thomas Kuti. Among the museum's artifacts are various pieces of clothing, plates, furniture, weaponry and etc. Considering that the museum is adapted to the house of former mayor of Herceg Novi, one of the rooms on the lower level is dedicated to him and his family, in honor of his legacy. There you can see his accomplishments and pictures of awarded medals, as well as personal items and presidential chair that was used during the time of his mayorship. The upper level is more than intriguing, and has several thematically organized rooms in which you can see his old nautical items, spiritual corner and different icons that date back to 17th, 18th and 19th century. One of the most beautiful views on the entrance of the bay can be seen from the balcony of this museum. Seating area is set outside the building in a botanical garden, that earlier contained many different plant varieties. Absolute must see if you're visiting town, if you're fond of history and want to take a break from the city bustle.

Cute museum with a lovely garden. However we got locked in when there was 10 minutes left to the closing time. No one was left at the museum. We were about to call the police but luckily we managed to climb over the fence and get out. Wouldn't come back

Interesting museum with expositions ranging from history of the country to traditional costumes, music instruments and tools. It’s impressive that the rooms of the former family who lived there are preserved and you can feel a touch of old times. The absence of signs “Don’t touch” were also a pleasant surprise. Outside is a nice garden with a lonely lovely bench overlooking the bay. We visited it for free in the Museum day but I’d gladly pay 3€ for it.
Yakov P — Google review
I don’t recommend the museum except that there are no toilets there, and you can’t take pictures, they charge 3 euros each, besides all this, they also work there and I have never seen such an attitude towards visitors in any country in the world!

I didn’t entry, I just went past it, but I think it would be worth seeing it. Also, 4 euros for entry isn’t that much and is too much at the same time in my opinion.

I loved this little museum, it's small but cosy! The woman on the reception is very helpful and friendly. Gorgeous little square offering a wonderful view on the surrounding towns and the open sea. The cannons and anchors give a nice historical touch and plants are of a splendid green throughout the year.

St Jerome Church / Church of St. Leopold Mandić sits in the pretty and quiet St. Jeronim Square. It isn't a particularly remarkable church in terms of architecture. It was locked when I went so couldn't go inside. 'Viewpoint of Herceg Novi' is right here also. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this church but since the Old Town of Herceg Novi is small, nothing is really 'out of the way'.

It's a simple enough church, but the plaza surrounding it is usually quite peaceful, as often tourists don't wander back this far. Sometimes you can hear musicians practicing at the music school next door. There's an overlook across from the church that provides an amazing overlook over the town.

The beautiful and clean beach is definitely a highlight, complemented by amenities like a small sea water pool for kids and abundant sunbeds at affordable prices. Despite being in a busy area with some noise complaints from other visitors, the overall atmosphere is lovely. Additionally, there are plenty of nearby restaurants and kid-friendly places to explore.

I recently visited this pleasant place and had a great experience overall. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which added to the positive atmosphere. I also found the prices to be fair, which made the trip even more enjoyable. One of the highlights of this place was undoubtedly the beautiful and clean beach. While researching before my visit, I came across some complaints about noise from other visitors. However, I personally didn't find it to be a significant issue. If you're someone who craves tranquility and absolute silence, I would recommend considering a vacation in the wilderness. However, if you're looking for a friendly and vibrant beach destination, this place will meet your expectations and provide a memorable experience.
Biljana R — Google review
I am convinced that all the reviews with more than 1 star are from the owner’s family because I don’t know how a person with a common sense could possibly rate it higher (unless you like being pepper sprayed on nights out, then I guess whatever makes you happy). Also for quite a touristy place, the staff could learn at least 3 words in English and not ignore everyone who doesn’t speak Montenegrin. Avoid at all costs.
Olha K — Google review
Another noise complaint… This place, single-handedly, obliterates the vibe of every other bar, restaurant, and hotel in HN/Igalo. The music is ridiculously loud and drowns out any other music for hundreds of metres around, from mid-afternoon until the early hours. To add further insult, they send a boat with loud speakers up and down the coast during the day promoting the club. We were so excited to experience Montenegro and this place really took the shine off our holiday.
Tom L — Google review
Terrible place! I think the whole Igalo, Topla and all the surroundings want to burn it down! Music screams every day from 22 to 01 at night, nothing saves from this! And is it a tranquil resort for a quiet getaway? Stop noise pollution!

The locals are experiencing headaches due to the noise until 3am every night. Do you think you can relax here? No. Even though you pay, the group playing volleyball nearby keeps hitting you with the ball. The staff does not react. If the ball does not hit your drink - you win. Had the pleasure to do this kayak tour with Obi, he was super helpful and friendly, took us to a little town called Rose, where we can swim and have coffee, it was an amazing day and we couldn’t recommend Kayak Herceg Novi enough!! Highly recommended!!!

Fantastic tour, don't let 7km of kayaking put you off, waters were calm, and the kayaking was quite easy. Ljubo was a great guide with some great knowledge of the area. Submarine shelter was fascinating. I never felt like we were in a rush. Stopped for an espresso in Rose, nice local village. Thanks for a great few hours.

We had a short kayak rental. It was a fantastic way to see more of the bay and the service was superb. We would love to come back and do one of the tours!

Me and my girlfriend did the half day tour to Rose with Ivana. We paddled across the bay and then had a drink in a café in Rose, swam at the Rose beach and headed back. She was a great Guide and we had the best time! We can only recommend the Kayak Tour with her! It was really fun and we would do it again 😊

Museum Old Town, also known as Muzej Stari Grad, in Herceg Novi is a charming and cozy treasure trove of historic items. Located just a short distance from the harbor, it's filled with antique furniture, paintings, vintage photos, letters, and various artifacts that offer insights into the town's history. The museum provides an opportunity to learn about how the area looked centuries ago and is recommended for both children and adults.
It's a treasure! The museum is charming and cozy. Vintage and antique photos, letters, pictures, various things. We learned a lot about the history of the town, saw how it looked 300 years ago, amazing. Do not miss such a find when you are in Herceg Novi. It is very interesting for both children and adults.

A very small museum at the heart of the old city. We really enjoyed our time there. A very interesting way to learn more about the history of the area. If you find some 20 minutes while crossing around the Old city in Herceg Novi, don't hesitate to visit.

Cool museum, really worth to spend your time with family or friends if you are curious about history. Museum is located directly in downtown of Herceg Novi. You will be able to travel back three centuries and see how the city changed and developed. There are a lot of old postcards, maps, banknotes and documents closely related with Herceg Novi. You can learn how city used to look like in the past, how did it evolve till today Simply go and enjoy. I was there with my family. We enjoy it big time. Miroslav

(Translated by Google) The harbor in Herceg Novi, protected for centuries by a series of fortresses, at the entrance to Herceg Novi Bay. Both the port and the fortress are still standing today, although they are not in the same correlation. Herceg Novi is a beautiful city, with good people and a good tourist offer, so it is always lively around the harbor and around the fortresses. Along with sightseeing, you can have a nice rest and refreshment in a series of cafes and restaurants. Located at the heart of Tivat, the Clock Tower is part of a complex that includes a beautifully restored Turkish bath. The area around the tower is popular among yachtsmen and young people for leisurely walks. It features expensive boutiques and restaurants, making it an upscale area. This is an incredible cove. Many places to get great food. Skip the blue cave.. overcrowded the tourist boats and unfortunately loses its charm when experienced and the fumes of diesel and chaos. However, the beach is a gem.
Masha B — Google review
Stones only on the beach, if you like them. The beach looks amazing from a boat sailing, so you could visit that way but there is a great restaurant near an old church and it has a huge terrace, it was worth visiting it. Not impressed by the beach.
Ivona M — Google review
Beautiful beach with stunning views of the Mamula Island and Croatia. Mostly accessible by either boat or a car, walking distance only for people who stay at the Village. Great facilities, options for having drinks and fresh sea food.
Domenicca K — Google review
This is an idyllic beach. The water is crystal clear, and the nature surrounding the beach is majestic. There are plenty of sunbeds to choose from. We had no problem finding some, but we did arrive fairly early. There are also lots of restaurants along the promenade, offering a wide and varied selection of food and drinks. One thing that could be improved is the number of toilets. The only one we found was located a bit further inland and required payment to use. Of course, there are toilets at the many restaurants, but that naturally assumes you're dining there. It’s also worth noting that the road leading here is somewhat winding and narrow in places, so it’s a good idea to drive carefully.
V N — Google review
I recommend visiting this beach in Montenegro. The water is turquoise clear and the views are spectacular. There are some very old monuments to see there as well.
Lejla V — Google review
This beach, because of its location and beautiful water, could be a 'hidden gem' – if only someone were willing to put in more effort. It's very neglected, run-down, and poorly maintained. Old sunbeds and umbrellas are still charged at €25, and the appearance of most restaurants and the service they offer lacks any sense of cleanliness, effort, or professionalism. The yards are full of trash, it's untidy. Still, we did find one great restaurant – Porto Adriatic – which had excellent food and a lovely atmosphere. I hope someone will eventually take care of this place.
Kristina J — Google review
Nice beach but very crowded. The water was pretty dirty. Parking is costing € 5 per day.
