Ski & Snowboard Areas
Val Thorens is a ski resort located in Europe, established in 1971. It sits at the highest altitude and offers top-notch ski slopes, terrain parks and modern lifts. The town is considered as the hub of skiing in Europe, with a variety of ski runs that cater to different preferences. Visitors can choose their speed, turns and scenic view before hopping on one of the high-tech lifts available.
This ski resort had so much to enjoy from a skiing perspective and a general good time. There are lots of different runs, ski schools and places to eat on the beautiful mountains. I was unlucky enough to require medical assistance but even that didn’t disappoint, everyone was super great and very friendly.
Siobhan B — Google review
Amazing ski destination – whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find it here! From easy, chill slopes to wild, uneven runs. The views of the surrounding mountains are absolutely stunning, and the snow conditions are excellent. I did miss having more trees around, as the landscape is very open and a bit desolate – though some people might actually prefer that. If you’re into partying, the town has some great spots – especially if you’re Danish! Just head to Café Snesko – you’re going to love it.
Thomas G — Google review
A very good ski resort. From beginners to advanced skiers, you can find good trails that will suit you. Also a very nice apres ski. Lots of hotels offers ski-in ski-out. Val thorens offers ski options when other ski resorts are already closed for the season.
Sigal S — Google review
Val Thorens has a great vibe, there are lots of amazing hotels and bars/restaurants. Shopping is easy with lots of convenience stores and also lots of specialist winter sports stores for all your skiing and snowboarding needs; though be prepared to pay a small (5-10% in my experience) resort premium on purchases here versus high street prices. Internet shopping is clearly the best option before arriving to make sure you get the best prices on equipment. Aside from the great bars and eateries, Val Thorens also has one or two slopes that you can ski and board on. Being a part of 3 Valleys it's a part of the largest ski resort in the world with hundreds of kilometers of groomed slopes. I love the ease of navigating around the resort using the many many lifts. There are runs for all levels, though if you're a complete beginner you may lack variety as there are relatively few green runs compared to other resorts. That being said, there are plenty of blues that are very manageable for beginners. Being at altitude I've found the snow quality and quantity to be better than other resorts in the area, including the 3 Valleys resorts of Courchevel and Meribel. Being lower they can often suffer with either slushy or icy conditions much more so that Val Thorens seems to. Final observation is that Val Thorens is an all ages resort. It doesn't matter if you're a family, young, old, or anywhere in between, Val Thorens has something for everyone, and all coexist peacefully.

The Perfect Destination for Skiing and Relaxation I recently visited this mountain, and I can confidently say it’s a paradise for ski and nature lovers! The area boasts an impressive number of ski slopes, suitable for all levels – from beginners to advanced skiers. The slopes are wide, well-maintained, and offer a safe skiing experience, making every moment on the mountain truly enjoyable. They are impeccably groomed daily, and the snow quality is excellent, no matter the weather. Beyond the slopes, the resort features cozy relaxation areas. The comfortable cabins, cafés with breathtaking views, and heated terraces provide the perfect spot to unwind between ski sessions. Whether you’re passionate about winter sports or just looking for a peaceful retreat in nature, this destination offers the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation. I highly recommend it!

Val Thorens – Where the mountains are majestic and the buildings… aren’t Let’s be honest: Val Thorens is like dating someone with a stunning personality and a questionable wardrobe. The mountains? Absolutely breathtaking. Snow-draped peaks, endless ski runs, and views that make you forget your Wi-Fi password. Nature here is working overtime. And then… there’s the village. The buildings? Imagine 1970s concrete met a ski resort brochure and said, “Let’s do brutalism, but make it beige.” It’s like someone tried to stack shoeboxes in a snowstorm and called it urban planning. Charming? Not exactly. Functional? Sure. Photogenic? Only if you crop aggressively. But hey – you’re not here for the architecture. You’re here to ski, après-ski, and maybe pretend you’re in a Bond film while sipping overpriced vin chaud. And for that, Val Thorens delivers. Just don’t look too hard at the hotel façade on your way down the slope.
Steve M — Google review
Great skiing area. Really enjoyed it. Not pretty in the villages but well makes up for that with the slopes.
Michael D — Google review
At 2350m, snow is not yet an issue. The station is geared towards skiing and cater mainly to an international clientele. British and Dutch mainly. It has the trappings of a small French town with fresh breads, some cafes for drinks and meals but remains a very touristic area. Perfect for skiing. Going to the piste is relatively easy.

Les 3 Vallées is a renowned ski area consisting of three valleys with a total of 169 lifts, numerous lodges, and restaurants. Private ski lessons can be arranged through the ESF ski school. Accommodations in the area cater to various budgets and group sizes. The expansive ski area offers around 600km of diverse tracks with minimal wait times at the lifts. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views and excellent dining options, although prices may be on the higher side.
My favorite European skiing! After traveling to many different resorts across the alps, I think I can certainly say that the three valleys is the best of every world. It is certainly big enough to not get bored at even if you’re there for a week with tons of different areas of the mountain that you feel like you have to yourself. The views are also incredible! I would highly recommend.
Cale O — Google review
Beautiful Slopes. Easy access to lifts and the town from the slopes. Honestly breathtaking views from the top, great for improvers, with a mixture of easy and harder slopes. Make sure you have Half board or a fat wallet for food.
Amaar V — Google review
It was my first time skiing after a few years and I’ve never had quite an experience like this one. If you are a first timer in this type of huge ski resorts you are going to feel amazed by both the size and the services they provide. I stayed there for a week and I would’ve stayed for a month. In my case VT. The offer really good connections between the three valleys and really different types of slope whether you’re a beginner or a pro. You’ll definitely have a nice time both during the day and at the apre ski.
Álvaro — Google review
It's very hard to criticise the 3 valleys ski area. It's huge, varied, quite stunning and very well run. At busy times the queues can get long, especially down in Meribel which is the middle of the the valleys. But the lift system copes pretty well, and of course nowhere else is immune to such issues. Well worth a visit at least once in your skiing career.
James G — Google review
A Skier’s Paradise Les 3 Vallées is simply phenomenal. With an extensive network of long, beautifully groomed slopes, it offers an unparalleled skiing experience. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll find runs that cater to every skill level, all while enjoying breathtaking alpine scenery. The infrastructure is top-notch, ensuring smooth connections between resorts and minimal waiting times. The snow conditions are excellent, and the variety of terrain keeps every day exciting. Honestly, only truly evil people could say anything bad about this ski resort. If you love skiing, Les 3 Vallées is a must-visit destination!
Milan K — Google review
The best large, linked-up, ski area in France. VT is high so it guarantees good snow throughout a extended ski season. Great bars, restaurants, and other facilities. Very family friendly resort for skiing and other activities. Been many times as a uni student and now a parent, will be back again for sure
Andrew M — Google review
The whole ski area is very good. The tracks were amazing and there was very little or no wait time on the ski lifts. There are a lot of different ski tracks around 600km to be exact. I skied for three days and in the three days I skied a total of 140km which is a lot. I would recommend this place for anyone who likes skiing. The view is amazing everywhere you go and you can find amazing restaurants anywhere. The prices are a bit overpriced everywhere, but I think its worth visiting atsleast one time. We stayed in Courchevel 1650. Which is on the far left side of the three valleys. But you can still easily reach the surrounding valleys.
Kaszaics — Google review
Amazing place for ski (75% ppl) and snowboarding (25% ppl). All the valley were great, it’s easy to get any place with cabin, there are plenty roads and places with food on the top. The only thing I didn’t like sometimes it didn’t look like they fixed snow cover over night.

A lovely ski resort with a cozy, intimate, family-friendly vibe. It’s perfect for a more relaxed and personal experience, away from the crowds. A great place for families and anyone looking for a charming winter getaway!

It's the best place to ski/snowboard, based on that it's a 5 star location. You cannot beat Meribel and The Three Valleys. Note: Not for budget conscious, with prices at the upper end, especially food. Saying that, the food in every restaurant was outstanding.

Incredible place, beautiful, absolutely stunning. There are all kinds of facilities and lanes (from beginners to experts). The ville is great and there are a lot of stores. In the station you could find expensive and quite cheap restaurants. Prices to enter to the ski lanes are normal. Totally recommend

Great skiing resort. Excellent choice for any level. Easy transport links. Cute little village with shops/restaurants. Also great for children. Offers various ski schools. Easy to get to the top with a selection of skilifts, cable cars etc. Long slopes with well marked directions. Fun centres throughout. Good for beginners too. Beautiful scenery. Would definitely recommend

La Mine - Luge sur rails is an exhilarating attraction that promises a thrilling experience for visitors of all ages. Cheval Noir is a challenging yet rewarding hike that offers a magnificent 360-degree panoramic view of Mont Blanc. The trail can be difficult in some areas, especially during the descent, so caution is advised. It takes around 3 to 4 hours to complete the climb.
Over 1500m ascent from Nant Deux, 18km round trip. Physical, but not too technical. Didn't need crampons (October) Recommend
Jordan K — Google review
(Translated by Google) Physical without being too technical. Treat yourself to the discovery of a magnificent summit which will reward a great effort! I don't recommend it for children or people without a minimum of training, however the view is worth it! (Allow about 2 to 3 hours of walking and 1200m of elevation gain from the resort center... and enjoy 😁) (Original) Physique sans être trop technique.

(Translated by Google) Magnificent 360* belvedere with a view of Mont Blanc, a beautiful statue of a silver horse culminates at the summit. the hike is difficult in places and you have to be careful, especially on the descent. It takes between 3h30 and 4h30 for the climb.

(Translated by Google) Magnificent hike. We left from Saint François. It stings a little on the way up, especially at the beginning. The last climb is great, thanks to them who made this zigzag path. It was really well thought out :) a 360° view with Mont Blanc up there. The best! (Translated by Google) Outstanding viewing peak! The path from the Col de la Madeleine is the shortest, but not signposted - a star deducted for that. From the top of the pass, take the road to the east. Important: after the mountain station of the "Le Frêne" ski lift, turn right onto an inconspicuous path heading south. In a depression you head south and only when the railing becomes steeper head east. The route is steep and somewhat arduous over boulders to the Col du Cheval Noir. You deserve a quick snack here. Then turn left across grassy terrain to the summit. The large horse statue at the summit is interesting. When the weather is clear, the view is phenomenal: Mont Blanc dominates in the northeast, then comes the Valais (!), the entire Vanoise is there, in the south the Massif des Écrins and to the west the entire Chaîne de Belledonne. (Original) Herausragender Aussichtsgipfel!

Restaurant Chez Pépé Nicolas in Val Thorens is a charming hillside farmhouse offering a unique dining experience. The restaurant boasts friendly staff, a beautiful terrace with stunning views, and quirky decor. It is known for its fabulous local food, including traditional Savoyard specialties like tartiflette and local meat and cheese boards. The menu goes beyond the usual offerings with dishes made from produce sourced from the kitchen garden or local producers.
Came for on our son birthday. Really pleasant dining experience and restaurant is easy to get to with shuttle at Cairn/Caron gondola. Food and services were on the dot. One of the best we have past few days. Wished we have more time at the boutique to enjoy the view. We started at 1330 and had to leave after lunch at 1500 to make sure we are in time to get back to Val Thorens

Fantastic restaurant with a really friendly staff. The cheese platter was very good especially the cheese they make themselves. The bone marrow was delicious. But the star of the show was the main course which was the veal chop for me. Definitely recommended! They are located on the Chasse piste in Val Thorens.

Exceptional place with all the food served from local products (they have their own orchard). Super nice decoration. And the food is the best of the place. Gorgeous place! Great climate and fantastic food. We tried starters such as crispy snails - super tasty but the mustard ice cream was something absolutely unique and mindblowing. The veal, goat fondue - everything stunning. At the end homemade - ice cream degustation - just perfect evening.

A great place when you're hiking in the mountains. Restaurant on the farm. There is a farm shop, you can look at the animals. Very tasty. And good service.

Amazing place to eat when skiing. Our only problem was that the service was really slow. It took us almost two hours to eat. The burgers were really good. It is great to have quality food on the mountain. The dessert was a little weird and didn’t enjoy it as much. It would be better if they offered normal desserts.

Found this place a little by accident. Quite a way off a ski run. Very pretty location and restaurant feels special with lots of nice touches in the decor etc. a small furnishings shop too. Les Menuires is a sprawling and popular ski resort with over 60 trails, as well as restaurants, shops, and lodging. The area is also known for its lively atmosphere and hosts various events throughout the year, including the Les Menuires du Rire comedy festival. Additionally, nearby cities like Evian and Aix-les-Bains are renowned for their therapeutic thermal baths.
Les Menuires is good choice for a friends' ski trip. Part of the massive 3 Vallées, The place is affordable compared to fancier neighbors like Courchevel. It’s more functional than pretty, ski access is excellent, and the modern lifts keep queues short. Good-value group accommodations near the slopes make it a practical pick. Ideal for fun-focused groups wanting great skiing without the luxury price tag.

Nice friendly ski resort nestled within the 3 valleys in the Savoie region. There is a good variety of accommodation from St Martin de Belleville up through the villages and in Les Menuires, Les Breyeres within resort. There are a good variety of slopes, though the area is quite open and therefore prone to wind, but less so than Val Thorens above. There is an excellent variety of shops in la croisette with a small supermarket, ski and gift shops, delicatessen and a fab bakery. The area alone is enough for a beginner and early intermediate. Others can extend their pass to easily get to Val Thorens, Mottaret, Meribel and Courchevel areas in a day. We enjoy staying in the villages of Saint Marcel and Levassaix for the authentic atmosphere. My only negative is that the main run back is often very churned up and a real leg killer at the end of a day, so make sure you save some energy for this on returning to base!
Lara W — Google review
One of the most underrated stations of the "3 vallées" domain. Excellent access, excellent entertainment and shopping opportunities (covered as well as on ski front). Great access to slopes with a large domain even with a "Les Menuires only" ski pass. Also very active in summer.

A great variety of pistes to ski for all abilities. Fantastic access to all of the three valleys ski area, we needed longer here to cover the area it's so huge ! Good lifts with minimal waiting times even when it was busy. A great family friendly resort with fabulous views, skiing, restaurants and shops. We will definitely return !

Jan 2024. First time in "Les tois valees". We stayed in Les Menuires at Les Clarines hotel. Awesome resort. Had to buy own toilet paper which was a first but hey, it didn't put us off 🤣 It was ski in/ski out which quite literally means " for skiers"not for boarders.....but a short walk to the free lift which takes you up to a short walk to the main gondala and chair lifts. 3 bars at the bottom of the piste into LeasMenuires. Easy access to Val Thorens, Meribel & Corchevel. Some great restaurants in Les Menuires. The 3 valleys is immense with over 600 km of pistes. Will take a few years to venture down all of them. Already looking at booking for 2025!.....🤪👍

Skiing from Les Menuires is awesome. Great connections to the rest of the 3 valleys for some seriously big ski days. From Les Menuires I recommend morning on La Masse, then up Sunny for the pixel park and Becca, then the long run down to St Martins. Beautiful skiing to suit all abilities. My favourite place to ski.
James R — Google review
Good point of access to Val Thorens. Spoiled somewhat by some busy blue runs plagued by irresponsible skiers/boarders travelling at ridiculous speed through the novice skiers. It's only a matter of time before someone is killed or seriously injured here.
Mark P — Google review
Riberty area is class for great ski access, accommodation and food plus reasonable ski and grocery shops.

Roc'n Bob Toboggan Run offers a thrilling experience with breathtaking views. Despite some comments about difficulty, even a 12-year-old managed the sled well and had a blast. Some find the end of the route too flat, but overall, it's an exhilarating activity. While accidents can happen, it's considered a risky sport like skiing and cycling. Visitors appreciate the freedom to go at their own pace and enjoy this fun alternative to skiing for an hour of excitement.
Fantastic experience. Well run. Yes accidents can happen but they can also with skiing or cycling etc. We don't need more rules - common sense and going down at your own pace making good use of the brakes should suffice.

Very avarage Route. A lot of flat sections. We recived one broker sled - The handle was broken, which The affected The fun of the whole team. I definietly recommended sleding at Merible.

Brilliant fun, just do it :-)
Robin W — Google review
(Translated by Google) First disappointing experience, the track is not well secured. Large numbers of skiers came onto the toboggan run, it was very dangerous and we were not able to fully enjoy the sled descent. Really dangerous for children. Very unfortunate given the price of €48 for 4. Not to be done with young children!
Pauline G — Google review
(Translated by Google) On paper it sounds nice. In reality, it is but... The sled is very difficult to steer if you don't lock your feet under the straps. Except that this was not made clear to us and that with ski boots it is impossible (straps too small). The edges of the slopes are not always secure and it would be easy to go over them. The buttocks slide a lot on the seat of the completely plastic sled, so it is difficult to stay in place. Once you start to get the hang of it, the sensations are good and it's quite fun. You don't have to be afraid of falling over.
Nicolas T — Google review
(Translated by Google) Good experience, great feeling. Fortunately the gentleman advised us not to leave our daughter alone. The sled is easy to handle. On the other hand, it is really dangerous in certain turns where no safety is put in place. We turned around and I ended up in the ravine, fortunately more out of fear than harm. Be careful, it would be nice if nets were installed in certain turns.
(Translated by Google) Great experience, great sensations, breathtaking landscape. I don't understand some of the comments about the difficulty, my 12 year old son (small size) mastered his sled really well and we had a blast. We did it 3 times. The only negative point is that the end of the route is too flat.

Cime de Caron stands as a majestic peak in the Three Valleys, accessible via a spacious gondola that can carry up to 150 passengers. This rugged mountain offers breathtaking panoramic views, stretching all the way to Mont Blanc on clear days. The journey to Cime de Caron is an adventure in itself, winding through picturesque landscapes like Lac du Lou and featuring eleven key stages of ascent from Notre-Dame-de-la-Life.
Highest summit (that you can travel to) in Val Thorens and the 3 Vallées skiing area. Amazing 360° view as far as the Mont Blanc. Come when they sky is clear. No blue runs on the way back, so know your skiing.

MUST SEE! Don’t miss this place in the winter or summer if you are in the area of Val Thorens! Just Amazing view of all of the Alps! Nothing more beautiful than this
Idan S — Google review
One of the main attraction peaks in the Three Valleys, Cime de Caron can be accessed via gondola from the Val Thorens resort. Views up here are spectacular, offering 360 views of the region including the Courchevel peaks. Even though the ski map lists a restaurant here, we found it was already closed down so do grab a bite before you head up! You can choose to ski down (red and higher difficulty) or simply wait for the next gondola. If you're traveling here from Courchevel, you'll likely need an entire day just to reach this peak before the lifts back to Courchevel close for the day.

Nestled in the heart of the French Alps, the Musée de Saint-Martin-de-Belleville offers a captivating glimpse into the rich history and culture of mountain life up until the early 20th century. Guided by Raphael Coppi, visitors are immersed in stories that highlight how identity remains central to this community, even after its integration into the renowned 3 Vallées ski area in 1982.
(Translated by Google) Very well designed museum, on several levels, each showing an aspect of the transformation of the valley. From the traditional 'remues', to the development of the Val Thorens resort. Very interesting and educational. Several video supports as well as reproductions of homes from the end of the 19th century. (Translated by Google) Museum rich in information where the signage and the direction of the visit are coherent and pleasant to follow. I also liked the drawings that looked like scanned watercolors. I took advantage of the superb guided tour led by Marina. His explanations were very interesting, his speech was fluid and the little anecdotes were very nice. Very good time full of discoveries. It was very interesting to discover the history of the village, more generally of the resort and sometimes even just history in general. That of our ancestors, the way of living, the dwelling, the work, a few words in patois and even an immersion in a dwelling which is none other than... the museum! Upstairs there are also films in the form of interviews with elders who talk about their lives and in particular the sudden but ultimately not so horrible change in their lives with the arrival of tourism. I highly recommend this museum, it's a shame there are so few people interested. PS: thanks to Marina for giving us another side of the mountain in high season. Fascinating, well done, it would be a shame to miss it! Allow a good 2 hours or more to see everything. Great welcome at the Tourist Office. Ski resort
Great Resort. Easy to use. Beautiful scenery. Will be coming back
Daniel R — Google review
Not so friendly Menuires. Tried to get a Ticket for our 2 year old son for the lift, but got rejected, because we did not had the passport for him to prove the age. With 5 yrs kids need to pay, but showing our son in his stroller is no prove lol. The lady at the counter said they make copies of the passport to prove the age for handing out free Tickets, obviously a lie, GDPR won't allow this practise. It is official now: you guys suck at tourism!
Paul H — Google review
Very long queues with only 3 tills for picking up prepaid skipasses, and taking 5 minutes to deal with each person. Offices elsewhere in resort only allow you to buy, not to pickup, so bus journey to get here. Missed 1st day's ski school.
Hollo — Google review
Rude staff who are not helpful or considerate. I didn’t initially realise they gave me the wrong ski pass and so after I came back down from the mountain and politely asked them to change it, they simply refused and said I needed to buy a new one. I got the impression I disturbed them from their actual job. Extortionate prices and really bad attitudes. I shall take my tourism elsewhere next time and skip “friendly” Menuires.
Dani — Google review
The 4 hour senior pass is excellent for older skiers. Easy to top up using the website on your mobile on the days you want to ski

Awesome place, recommend to anyone!
Adrian B — Google review
Ordered online at Friendly Menuires site, the ski pass was ready and the pick up took 2 min. Great time saving process.
Daniel N — Google review
(Translated by Google) Purchasing a pass is easy: we topped up our 2018 cards without any problems, payment at the ticket counters is fast, there are enough receptionists, and there's no waiting in line; the outdoor ATMs are convenient and efficient. Negative points: the lack of a half-day pass. While a 4-hour pass exists, it's €8 cheaper than the day pass, but... a lower half-day offer would be great. Because the maintenance of the slopes and facilities, employee payroll, employer contributions, and rising energy costs don't justify a 25% increase since 2018, for example. The cost of living itself hasn't increased 25% in 5 years. Making a profit, yes, but gradually. French resorts have lost their original vocation of mass tourism in favor of luxury tourism aimed at foreign elites (Courchevel, Méribel, Tignes, Val d'Isère, Val Thorens), and we wouldn't want Les Ménuires to go down that path. Please stay within reach of French people's wallets. And see you next year, see you soon.
