Lent, located in Maribor, is considered the most beautiful part of the city. During the day, it offers stunning views and becomes even more enchanting at night with its illuminated ambiance. The area boasts numerous delightful restaurants and provides a picturesque setting for leisurely strolls. Additionally, Lent is renowned for offering an authentic and traditional wine tasting experience in Slovenia.
I'm totally flabberghasted at how beautiful the Lent district was on a sunny day in February. Good vibes, cute bridges, and swans everywhere 🦢🦢🦢
Leo M — Google review
I enjoy the Lent area... probably one of the best places for a nice stroll along the river. It has a really nice atmosphere and some of the best bars and places to eat.
Johnny S — Google review
Really nice chilling area. There are some swans nearby too. There are different restaurants nearby. Really nice night view as well😊

Beautiful promenade next to the Drava river. Take a nice walk there when going to Maribor, sit on a bench, experience a chill vibe and enjoy it fully. It has been renovated recently and there are a lot of different cafes where you can take a coffee break.

Maribor Castle, situated in the heart of Maribor, Slovenia, is a significant historical landmark with a rich past. Originally constructed in the 15th century and featuring a mix of architectural styles from Renaissance to Baroque due to various renovations over time, the castle offers visitors an extensive museum showcasing the region's archaeological and cultural history. The complex includes dungeons, a wine bar, eateries, puppet and weapons museums, as well as a tower providing breathtaking panoramic views.
Small but rich museum about the town of Maribor. From prehistoric age to the modern era, the history of the region and the city is told through various exposed pieces. I’ve particularly appreciated the exposition of toys soldiers!
Mister Z — Google review
Historic building, nice to walk around, not many tourists around, which it made it better!.
Enrik H — Google review
The castle is located in the centre, which has the great advantage of being almost entirely pedestrianised, and I really like that. We didn't get to the castle, which contains exhibitions of the archaeological and cultural history of the region, because we were there in the evening
M. H — Google review
There is a museums inside the castle and you can buy a ticket to take the tour. You could find a short history of the region and how Maribor developed, also there armours, uniforms, statues, paintings and also miniatures with tin figurines representing the Turkish assault of the Maribor Castle. Overall the experience is nice.
Andrei B — Google review
What a value for money! 5 euros (3 for students) for what I expected to be a small exhibition. It is a large museum offering a variety of collections (from the middle ages to paintings to statues) and the building itself is also nice inside and out. It is worth a visit.
Juljan D — Google review
Recently renovated on the outside, the inside museum is quite extensive and has some really great exhibits on the history of the city and the region. The main hall is incredible and some of the artwork is rest superb. 8 eur entry. Gift shop at the entrance has lots of Slovenian gifts. Highly recommend. Can spend an hour if you go quickly, more if you're reading everything in detail.
Paul H — Google review
Maribor is truly a little gem of Slovenia that must absolutely be visited if you pass nearby! The city center is not all that big, indeed in two hours you visit it all, but it doesn't mean that is not beautiful, because it's completely the opposite indeed! An afternoon spent here is really worth it

A nice castle in the center of the city situated on a beautiful square, inside there is a regional museum. In front of the castle, you can have coffee and refreshments, there are also souvenir stands available. I recommend seeing this castle.

Old Vine House in Maribor is home to the oldest grape vine in the world, boasting over 400 years of history and recognized by the Guinness Book of Records. Originally part of the town's defensive wall, it has become a major tourist attraction. The house serves as a tribute to the wine traditions of Maribor and Slovenia, featuring an exhibition room that showcases the country's rich wine heritage and offers tastings of exceptional wines from the Stajerska wine region.
We visited spontaniously this place in Maribor on our way bay home to Hungary. It is amazing to know that the world’s oldest living vine is about 400 years old and it is in Slovenia very close to the Hungarian border. We took part in a small wine-tasting session, too. It was an excellent program. I advise you to discover the old town of Maribor. It is super cozy and cute to take a walk there. And the Old Vine House is also very close to the city centre.
Lilla K — Google review
We almost always go here for a wine tasting whenever we are in town. Go take a stroll through the display room, before you decide what kind of wine tasting you want to have. They use a tiered approach, so you can have young wines, medium or aged wines or a mixed selection. After you've been to to display room, you can point out which ones you want to try and avoid having to go through any that won't be to your liking. Service personel is well trained and can help you out if you are not as experienced in the regional wines, so don't be shy and just ask for help when you need it.
Oliver L — Google review
Really wonderful place made better by the staff. Clement walked us through 8 wines we tasted and was as knowledgeable and pleasay as you can imagine. People come to take a picture of the oldest vine in the world. They should stay for the wine.
Mark P — Google review
Tried orange wine for the first time in Maribor, Slovenia — a peaceful spot by the world’s oldest grapevine (over 400 years old). The wine was soft with a lovely floral aroma. I really enjoyed it! The area is accessible, but the cobblestone paths make it a bit tricky for wheelchair users.

Located by the riverside, Maribor Synagogue may not seem impressive from the outside, but it holds significant historical and cultural value. As one of the oldest preserved synagogues in Europe, it now operates as a Jewish cultural center. Although not currently active for religious purposes, it stands as a reminder of the once-thriving Jewish community in Maribor. Visitors can engage with friendly staff who offer insights into the history of the synagogue and its significance to the local Jewish community.
An ancient synagogue from the Middle Ages. There is not much to see, but it is part of the simplicity of synagogues from that time. We got into a fascinating conversation with a researcher who works there, and I recommend everyone to talk to whoever is there, to hear a little about the history of the Maribor Jewish community.
Shachar P — Google review
Marietka gave us a really thoughtful and engaging tour of the beautifully preserved synagogue. She is very knowledgeable and shared so much about the history of Jewish life in the region it was very eye-opening. Even though Jews were expelled from Maribor back in medieval times, this space remains so important to remember and reclaim that history. We're really glad we stopped by.

In the heart of Maribor's downtown area, you'll find the striking Plague Column, a monument that serves as a reminder of the hardships endured in the late 17th century when almost two-thirds of the population fell victim to the plague. The column is a replication of the original, which is safely stored in a local museum. This beautiful sculpture stands as a testament to resilience and serves as an important historical landmark in this charming city.

The Museum of National Liberation Maribor is a traditional venue showcasing artifacts and displays related to the region's history since the early 20th century. Situated just 10 minutes from the Main Square, this museum offers a glimpse into Maribor's tumultuous past, chronicling its industrial boom, battles for the northern border, and the impact of World War II on its residents.

A great museum with a lot of small temporary exhibitions. The permanent exhibitions cover the period of WW2 and socialist Yugoslavia. They are quite informative with some unique exhibits. The temporary exhibitions covered some interesting topics: skateboarding, human influence on nature and sustainability, AI and critical thinking, historical ships.
Marko G — Google review
Absolutely fascinating museum. We had never before heard of the forced removal and genocide of the native Slovenes by the occupying Nazis from Maribor and the surrounding areas (although, when one thinks about it, given that the Reich was only a few miles away, of course this was the fate of the locals). We left educated, but also moved and outraged. We also enjoyed the exhibitions on Maribor life before WW2, under occupation and then within Communist Yugoslavia, and had an interesting discussion with the museum curators. Overall, I recommend this museum strongly to anyone with an interest in history.

I played the piano there and my friends though It was not permissible so they got angry at me but when the guide asked if I wanted to continue my friend said it was him who played the piano🤣 Lol I just stayed quiet lol.

Interesting museum representing the history of Slovenia through different periods. You can spend there between hour and hour and a half
Ivan S — Google review
We have enjoyed the museum. However, don't expect to learn much about history of Maribor or Slovenia. We have learnt that Tito had a lot warm conversations with locals during his multiple visits to Maribor and that he was enthusiastically welcomed by locals. We have not learnt anything about his dictatorship or anything bad concerning him. It was almost like reading newspapers from that time. We have learnt about multiple names, dates and events from the 20th century of Maribor history. The museum seems to avoid difficult topics and we had to read Wikipedia to understand any broader context and the background of national conflicts between Germans and Slovenians. Please note that we did not have any guide. Most of the descriptions are in English but it is perfectly possible that we would have a completely different experience if we had booked a tour.

Pyramid is a small hill in Maribor, featuring a winding path that leads to a chapel at the top. The climb offers views of tiny vineyards and the city below. While there are few trees for shade along the way, reaching the summit rewards visitors with an extraordinary panoramic view. The hill also holds historical significance, with visible ruins of an old castle.
Piramida in Maribor is a hill (386 m above sea level) above the city of Maribor in Slovenia, which is a popular excursion spot and offers a beautiful view of the city and the surrounding countryside. The climb up the Piramida is easy and takes about 20-30 minutes from the centre of Maribor. On top of the hill stood the medieval Maribor Castle, which was built in the 12th century. The castle was destroyed in 1784 and a chapel was built in its place, which still stands there today. Today the hill is covered with vineyards, which is typical for this region of Slovenia.

One of the small hills bordering Maribor city to the north. It is called Pyramid due to its steep slopes which are now covered by a vineyard and a forest. The hill is significant for being the site of a previous medieval Maribor/Marburg fortress, the remnants of which are today an archeological site. A rather large chapel now stands at the hilltop, visible from afar. The viewpoint is excellent if one wants to look at the whole city, examine Pohorje mountain and have a glance southeast towards Croatia. I give a lower grade because the area should be maintained better with some urban landscaping and without litter around.
Vanja Z — Google review
The track offered a pleasant walking experience, with the city skyline and majestic mountains providing a stunning backdrop. The pyramid was an incredibly amusing and memorable destination to explore.
Yadun M — Google review
Nice view over city. You walk through vineyard to the top of the hill, it’s not a long walk. I wish little light bulbs that are over vineyards are turned on in the evening, it would probably be much better experience.

Beautiful view for the city.

There is a small chapel at the top of this hill, you can see it as you go up.. The path to the top is winding which makes it easy to climb without losing your breath. You pass some tiny vineyards on your way, and most of the way there is no tree cover for shade. I counted 2, and I stopped at the last tree as it was super hot.. but wherever I reached the view was amazing and extraordinary.. would have been really nice if they added some benches for people to sit and breath the air and enjoy the moment! the view is nice and you'll probably have this place to yourself, so you can enjoy some peace and quiet. Cars and bikes are not allowed, so it’s a walking distance.. if you walk all the way from the town, there’s no sidewalk on the street so.. stay safe!
Marizela E — Google review
Perfect lookout point to Maribor. I run up there during my morning jog from the north side and the trail was nice. The other one on the south side of the hill was steep and rugged. There are multiple paths leading up there, so you can choose the right one for you. Definitely a must-visit place in Maribor 🙂

The Basilica of Our Mother of Mercy is a striking feature in the Maribor skyline, with its two towers topped by green spires. This Roman Catholic church, overseen by the Franciscan order, includes a 12th-century monastery and features artwork by Hungarian artist Pruszinskay and carvings by Hohnjec from Celje. The Viennese architect Richard Jordan designed the monastery, while local master Jozef Brandl crafted the organ.
A beautiful Franciscan church with the status of a basilica. The church is located in the center of Maribor, it is built of red bricks, so it is easily recognizable. There is a beautiful courtyard inside, where you can relax. In the interior of the church there is also a room with a description of the history of the church.

Constructed between 1892 and 1900, this red-brick church features twin towers and an adjoining monastery. Its striking architecture and rich interior make it an essential stop when exploring Maribor's old town.

A monastery is dating from the 12th, design by Viennese architect Richard Jordan. Some paintings inside the church were painted by the Hungarian artist Pruszinskay, the Way of the Cross was carved by Hohnjec from Celje; the organ was made by local master Jožef Brandl. On the main altar is the pilgrimage statue of Mary dating from the 18th century.

Sodni stolp, also known as the Judgement Tower, is a restored medieval landmark in Maribor, Slovenia. Dating back to the 14th century and once part of the city's defensive walls, this tower has undergone several renovations over the centuries. Originally serving as a river portage and storage house, much of its structure was dismantled in the 20th century. Today, it stands with a cone-shaped roof and hosts a daily market above it.
It’s so quiet, so clean, and there are so many swans here. You can take a peaceful walk along the river and admire the different bridges. You can see the city with views from all sides. Before reaching Titov Bridge, you can stop by a wine bar, enjoy the sunny day, the falling maple leaves, and beautiful music. Swans will swim up to you, hoping for food, but you’re not allowed to feed them! I saw people feeding them, but I also saw a sign saying it’s not allowed.

This historical building in Maribor was once much bigger, and served as a river portage and storage house. Much of it was torn down in the 20th Century. With an affordable entry fee, it offers visitors a delightful experience showcasing local talent through various exhibitions. Currently featuring 'Impossible Machines,' this exhibition presents an intriguing collection of contraptions powered by motors and gears, inviting curiosity and wonder. The gallery itself boasts beautiful flooring and a welcoming atmosphere, complemented by friendly staff eager to share their passion for art.
Small but pretty gallery, very nice lady at the cashier, definitely worth a visit if you have time (it's one floor so you can walk through it in 30 minutes)

This is a remarkable gallery with bold presentation of a good mix of work, all of really high quality. There are paintings, sculptures and other more modern works. None of the work on display is lazy or predictable. It has a slightly surreal, theatrical feel to the rooms (some of which work better than others), but overall I would highly recommend this place.

Maribor Gallery offers a truly pleasant and visually engaging experience, showcasing the work of local artists in a beautifully curated exhibition. The arrangement is superb! Dozens of artworks (mostly paintings) are thoughtfully displayed in a way that allows them to interact with each other and the space that is not your average white walls (finally!). It’s clear that a skilled curator was behind it all; without that kind of vision and expertise, it simply wouldn’t have come together so seamlessly. Well worth a visit!

(Translated by Google) The oldest name that the square got after the parish church of St. John the Baptist, is the Kirchenplatz. In 1859, the square was renamed Stolni trg, because in that year the Slovenian bishop Anton Martin Slomšek transferred the headquarters of the Lavatina diocese from Št. Andraž na Carinthia to Maribor. In 1919, the square was renamed Slomškov trg. At the edge of the park, which was planted in 1891, 100 years later, a monument to the first bishop of Maribor, Anton Martin Slomšek, was erected by the sculptor Martin Drev. In the park, there is also a small pool with children's sculptures, the statue of "Korlek", the work of the sculptor Gabrijelo Kolbič. Around the church there was once a city cemetery, where many famous Maribor families were buried. The gravestones have been preserved and are today built into the outer wall of the church. Nearby, there is also a grave sculpture of a reclining lion from the Roman era, from the 1st or 2nd century, which is said to have been found near the village of Starše in the Drava riverbed. Ob robu parka, ki so ga nasadili leta 1891, so 100 let zatem postavili spomenik prvemu mariborskemu škofu Antonu Martinu Slomšku, delo kiparja Martina Dreva.
