The Great Synagogue, located in Pilsen, Czech Republic, is a significant historical monument and the largest synagogue in the country. Built in 1893, it showcases a blend of Moorish-Romanesque architectural styles and stands as the second largest synagogue in Europe and third largest globally. The original plan by Viennese architect Max Fleischer included two impressive 65-meter high towers but was not fully realized due to local preferences.
Beautifully restored and atmospheric. While we were there, they had a very emotive exhibit on photos from Ukraine. The computer information booths on the second floor are very worth spending some time browsing as they have an extensive collection of photos from the restorations (before and after). There's a small souvenir shop at the back.
Natalya M — Google review
The Great Synagogue in Pilsen is truly massive and incredibly impressive. Standing inside, you can feel the weight of history and the beauty of its architecture. I highly recommend also taking time to read the information about the women in the building at the back.
Asli Z — Google review
This is a true architectural masterpiece, striking in its grandeur and exquisite details. This synagogue is the third largest in Europe, and the second in the Czech Republic after Prague, and its scale immediately arouses admiration! I am also impressed by the quality of the restoration: the red brick facade has retained its historical expressiveness, the interior has been restored with respect for the original design - the paintings, decorative elements and the organ shine again in all their glory! The atmosphere inside is calm and solemn, even if you are not a religious person, this place makes a deep impression if you are a lover of architecture! The building is also used for concerts.
Дмитро — Google review
Located in the center of the city, open conveniently open for the public after paying hefty entrance fee. Women are missing from the story.
Andrea P — Google review
Breathtaking... and sad. What a wonderful and colourful civilization almost destroyed by the Germans. Am Israel Chai!
Tamir S — Google review
The synagogue is an interesting visit. The structure is impressively large and can host many worshippers on the ground floor and the balcony. The temple is very beautifully decorated with wood and plaster finishing and many religious ornaments. Some walls have amazing stained-glass windows. There was a nice photography exhibition when we were there as well.
Siegfried B — Google review
Love the architecture. Seems smaller inside but that's because of the side galleries.

Beautiful piece of history, and for a mere small fee, one can immerse themselves in this breathtaking place. Plzeň is not littered with sights left right and centre, so it’s a must on one’s journey to the city

The Cathedral of St. Bartholomew, a Gothic masterpiece located on Republic Square, is a prominent feature in the historical center of Pilsen. Inside, visitors can admire the renowned Pilsen Madonna on the main altar, representing Czech Gothic art. Outside the cathedral, a small metal-forged angel is believed to make wishes come true with a touch. The cathedral's tower offers stunning views of the surrounding region and holds the distinction of being the tallest church tower in the Czech Republic.
It is stunning gothic cathedral as a central point of the main square. You should not and can not miss to visit it. It is even more beautiful inside then outside. Church tower is 103 meters high, making it the tallest one in Czech Republic. We did not manage to experience the view from the tower as we visited pretty late in the day so it was closed. Definitely recommend to stoo by.

The Cathedral of St. Bartholomew in Pilsen is a stunning example of Gothic architecture. Located in the main square, it features the tallest church tower in the Czech Republic. It’s a must-visit for anyone exploring Pilsen.

We visited this church this past weekend while visiting the Pilsen Christmas Markets. A beautiful cathedral in the center of the Pilsen Square. Recently renovated over the past few years. We did not go up to the bell tower, but the views from the top must be amazing.

Very beautiful and well worth a visit. Plenty of parking outside. Remember to touch the the angel outside on the gate at the back of the cathedral.

Saw the outside since there was a wedding taking place. Beautiful outside. In the court yard next to it was a band playing. Beautiful exterior. I would like to mention There are some homeless hanging about in the small corners around the church

The St. Bartholomew's Cathedral in Pilsen is a Gothic cathedral from the late 13th century, adorned with Renaissance paintings and boasting the tallest church tower in the Czech Republic. It is centrally located on the main square and is beautiful both on the outside and inside. For those without a fear of heights, you can ascend the tower during the day, where you'll be treated to a wonderful view over the entire city of Pilsen.

History Museums
The Patton Memorial Pilsen is a military history museum that delves into the liberation of Pilsen during World War II. Despite its small size, the museum effectively chronicles the city's tumultuous journey through the mid-20th century and beyond, particularly highlighting its distinction as the most easterly city liberated by General Patton during his European campaign. Visitors can explore period equipment, photos, and even unexpected artifacts like an unopened can of Coca Cola from a ration pack.
The museum itself is small and I I think the place is more suitable for history buffs. But in general, you can also come to see the exhibition and read information about them. You can also buy interesting souvenirs Entrance for a student costs 70 CZK
Ivan A — Google review
Small but worthwhile stop when you're in Pilsen. Takes maybe an hour to fully if you watch the film and read everything. Short walk away from St Bartholomew's. Very easy to find.
Philip S — Google review
Plzen was liberated by the Americans in 1945. The museum was set up based on collection of military enthusiasts. It is difficult to get the picture as there are long descriptions of fights in certain villages. The main question how and why the American Army accidentally disappeared from Plzen is not addressed. The museum shop sells very strange items including body mist.
Andrea P — Google review
This small museum is an excellent reminder of the sacrifices made by the Czech people and their American liberators at the end of the Second World War. The story is told in great detail in 20 panels in Czech and English, illustrated with uniforms and artifacts from the time. I found it very readable. The names of many of the soldiers who gave their lives are recorded in the details of separate incidents. An unmissable and unforgettable experience.
Alan H — Google review
Not very big, but a lot of really interesting period artifacts and explanations in both Czech and English on a very important and under-studied moment in history. Must see if in Plzeň. As of Aug 2025, admission for adults was only 100 Kn ea.

The Brewery Museum, located in a former medieval malt house in the center of Pilsen, Czech Republic, offers an immersive experience into the history and production of beer. Visitors can explore models of old breweries, a modern-day bottler, and even participate in beer tastings. The museum showcases the legendary Pilsner Beer production and features a historic Pilsen-style pub with equipment used for beer production from ages ago. Additionally, there is an engaging attic space for kids to enjoy interactive activities.
A great stop for beer lovers and history buffs alike! The Pilsen Brewery Museum offers a fascinating look at the origins of pilsner beer and how it’s evolved over the centuries. The exhibits are well laid out with lots of artifacts, old brewing equipment, and interactive displays. It’s not a huge museum, but it’s packed with interesting info and charm. You even get a small beer with your ticket—nice touch! Definitely worth a visit before or after touring the Pilsner Urquell brewery.
Todd R — Google review
Honestly, my back and knees hurt from so much walking, so not the best attitude. I also thought that maybe there be something cool given it's Halloween, but no. Aside from that, the museum is self guided, and there's some interactive things. However, it doesn't say you can't touch sooo go for it! They give you a beer 🍺 at the end in the Beer Garden but don't expect the best service. The price 150 Czech Korona 🇨🇿 so for about 6 dollars, you get what you pay for. It's a 3 story walk but at least you don't pay for the bathroom
Travelling Z — Google review
Great tour that takes you underground for about a 900 meter walk. See and learn about the history of Pilsen and the cellars below ground as you make your way through. Free beer at the end makes a nice way to end it too! Definitely recommend this tour. Easy walk but you'll have to duck more than once as there are a few spots that get a bit low. Thankfully the tour provides hardhats to wear, because they are needed, lol!
Philip S — Google review
Great museum with loads of interesting artifacts and images relating to the local brewing of beer. Worth getting a combined ticket and going on the underground tour which starts in the museum building. Great way to spend a couple of hours in Pilsen.
Geoff P — Google review
It was an interesting and fascinating tour learning the culture and history of Beer production in Czech and where the Pilsner beer originated. It’s amazing to learn the traditional brewing techniques and how this community integrated their homes to this underground cellar. There are several language options for the tour where you can select from so it is very convenient. They also provided proper PPEs before entering the cellars. Another amazing treat is the free Pilsner beer from the restaurant just above the museum. This is truly an unforgettable experience.
Shella — Google review
This is an incredible place, here you can see and learn about the beer culture in the Czech Republic and its history, very interesting and exciting. The museum has many exhibits from different times. There is also a shop and a pub nearby. In the shop you can buy various souvenirs, as well as curiosities from around the world beer from all over the Czech Republic. I also recommend that after the museum you immediately visit the tourist excursion to the cellar of the brewers. You can buy tickets in the store. The tour is in 3 native languages: 1 German 2 Czech 3 English.
Maxim P — Google review
Great tour at the brewery - complete with a sampling of their fresh, unfiltered, unpasteurized pilsner! We bought tickets at the museum and then walked 10 mins to the brewery. I think you can also buy tickets at the brewery and save yourself the walk. Definitely worth stopping here.
Natalya N — Google review
It’s a nice place to know the brewery history, maybe less spectacular than Pilsner tour, but still worth checking. You get a small beer in price of the ticket and they have a nice shop. Some souvenirs may be cheaper in Pilsner brewery shop though

Honestly surprised by the quality of the global experience. For adults it's fun, for your kids it would be amazing place. Bring them here blinded you won't regret. Interesting and interactive experiences on physics. It can last half a day if you take your time and enjoy. Noy to crowded on Sunday

Plan to be full day here, with children or not. Refresh your school physic course, make your small grey cells work intensively. Physical experiments, mental puzzles, entertainments - heaven for science enthusiasts, just take your time to jump between the booths. Demonstration can be improved: less talk (in Czech), more action. However still impressive! Don’t forget about lunch, you can easily lose your sense of hunger. Food is canteen is much better than typically in this kind of places. Strong 5 of 5!

The Puppet Museum, situated on the Square of the Republic, offers a fascinating insight into the rich history of puppetry in Pilsen. It showcases the evolution of this art form from roving puppeteers to the establishment of a permanent stage at its location in the 1800s. The museum provides an immersive experience with detailed exhibits and audio guides, allowing visitors to delve into Czech puppetry's full history and even play with a wide range of puppets.
Great experience for kids & for adults who want to revive the childhood spirit & enjoy life
Gidi I — Google review
I visited the place to learn something new about history of puppet art. The place is full of text and audio guides at the stages. So if you are interested in the topic and want to go through everything, expect to spend few the hours at the place. The last floor is whole dedicated for playing with the puppets. Because of that, I would say that the place will be most interesting for families with children, or with someone with good imagination to come up with some scene idea and play it with someone else. The guy that was guiding the top floor showed me and my friend how to hold and work with different types of puppets, even some that I had never seen before. Great new experience for me!

My son Sean and I visited the museum yesterday to see the armory. As wonderful as the armory was, my son is a huge student of history, the best part was the older gentleman that worked in the exhibit. Even though his English was extremely limited, as is our Czech, he was able to convey so much to us that it made the visit forever memorable. Thank you good sir for bringing history alive for us and I wish we had gotten your name.

This place is stunning. We came to Pilsen for the beer and loved so much more. This museum, with its immaculate collection, was an absolute highlight. Clearly loved by those running the place. Highly recommended.
Wade H — Google review
Museum in which a lot of the western bohemian history is well documented, lots of regional exhibits and explanations on archeological digging. Again if you're not fluent in Czech you only get a list in a foreign language that gives the names of the exhibits in the vitrines. Also the geology of the region is briefly explained in a rather small room. Liked the glassware, lock and "exotic" exhibition best. You can buy entrance allowances per level of the museum with individual pricing.
David M — Google review
A fantastic collection covering archeology, history, and art. The arsenal is especially impressive. You could see how much pride and care goes into the museum.

Excellent exhibition of prehistoric, medieval and 1800s history of Pilsen and surroundings. We went for the standard/permanent exhibitions on the second floor. Our kids (3, 6 and 7) liked it a lot. All rooms are well-lit, and you can watch all exposed items clearly. We especially liked the stone-age and bronze-age sections, but also the Renaissance part had several surprises, like a Guttenberg book press, or several guns and fine arts pieces, such as pharmacist phioles.

Exploring the Historic Underground of Plzen is like stepping back in time to the medieval era. This fascinating network of vaulted tunnels, wells, and storehouses stretches an impressive 20 kilometers beneath the city, making it one of the largest underground systems in the Czech Republic. The guided tour covers approximately 800 meters through a maze of corridors and cellars that reveal how life was lived centuries ago.
It was a really great experience for us. 60 minutes of an exciting story about the underground passages under Pilsen and their important significance. A young man explained everything to us in detail in our native language. Afterwards there is a sales room with countless delicious beers. When buying the tickets there was even a reference to discounts for schoolchildren and students. Thank you very much 🙏

Very unique experience! If in Pilsen, I definitely recommend booking a tour. Our guide was excellent. My husband and I enjoyed learning about the history of Pilsen during the tour as well. We drove from our hotel at Chateau Zbiroh and did the English Tour at 1:00 followed by the Pilsner Urquell Brewery Tour around 2:45. The timing worked out well for both and it was a nice, easy day trip!
Sara B — Google review
Cool underground tour. Wasn't as cold as I worried it might be. Interesting to see just a fraction of their massive underground network and how much water/wells exist here. Makes sense as the birthplace of pilsener to have tons of high quality water. Grateful to have the hard hat as I smacked my head on the ceiling multiple times when I wasn't paying attention to where the height dipped down. Drink ticket they give you can be redeemed at restaurant attached to museum which is both convenient and good as they are one of two places in pilsen that offer the unfiltered beer.

The Renaissance Town Hall, dating back to the 15th century, stands as one of Bohemia's most stunning town halls. Designed by Italian master-builder Giovanni de Statia, it showcases a magnificent renaissance facade that reflects both its rich history and remarkable architectural craftsmanship of the era. Originally acquired by the city in 1407 for municipal purposes due to its size, this building was later enhanced by Giovanni de Statia after a fire.
I went there for a short time during my visit to Pilsen. Wonderful place. It's so old I couldn't believe it. The architecture is spectacular. I would probably give it a look since it's right in the center anyway.

Built in the 16th century according to a design by the Italian architect Giovanni de Statio, it is still one of the most beautiful Renaissance town halls in Bohemia. The facade is richly decorated with sgraffito with motifs of rulers, city symbols and biblical scenes, so it is definitely worth stopping by and taking a closer look at the details. The building still serves as the seat of the municipality, but on the ground floor you will find a tourist information center. The interiors can only be accessed during special events or guided tours. The most beautiful view of the town hall is on a sunny day, when the sgraffito really stands out. Thanks to its location on the main square, it is an ideal place to start exploring historic Pilsen. (Original) Krásná renesanční radnice přímo na náměstí Republiky hned naproti katedrále sv. The city center of Pilsen, with its compact size, allows visitors to easily explore the charming old town in just one day. A map is not necessary as it is impossible to get lost, and all attractions are conveniently within walking distance. However, despite the city's beauty and rich history, there seems to be a significant amount of traffic congestion in the central area. One might question if this bustling atmosphere is necessary for a place that holds such historical significance.
Stunning Renaissance city hall from 1554-1559 built by an Italian architect. It is said to be the most beautiful Renaissance city hall north of the Alps. You can visit the first floor of the building.

(Translated by Google) Today the Franciscan Monastery is a museum. Located in the central historical part of the city near Republic Square. Be sure to check it out if you're in Pilsen. The sacredness of the place and its mystery do not leave you from the first seconds. The Franciscan monastery is one of the oldest medieval monuments in Pilsen. The beginning of its construction is associated with the founding of the city at the end of the 13th century. The monastery was destroyed during the Hussite wars, as well as during the Thirty Years' War, but was rebuilt each time. The monastery has survived to this day in the early Gothic style with partial Baroque reconstructions in the 17th and 18th centuries. It belongs to the Diocese of Pilsen. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is one of the most significant monuments of this complex, being one of the oldest buildings in Pilsen. The facade was rebuilt in the Baroque style, but inside the Gothic structure of the temple is clearly visible: a three-nave basilica with an elongated presbytery (not rebuilt), Gothic windows, ribbed arches and powerful columns. There are small buttresses outside. In the 17th century, the Chapel of St. Antoninus was added. The altar image, pulpit and pews are made in the Baroque style. As part of the "Night at the Church" event, interesting concerts and excursions around the territory of the monastery are held with a visit to the Chapel of St. Barbara, where you can see rare Gothic frescoes.

The Monument of František Křižík in Pilsen is a captivating tribute to the renowned inventor often referred to as the "Czech Edison." Erected in a beautifully landscaped park, this bronze statue captures Křižík's contemplative spirit, reflecting his significant contributions to electric street lighting in 1887. Nestled amidst lush greenery and charming benches, it offers visitors a serene spot for reflection.
Fantastic Park in the middle of the city. This is a great place to come and relax, just pick a park bench, grab a beer and people watch. Really a very enjoyable place to bring the family and wander amongst the gardens, even plenty of ice cream places to try! Haha. Very highly recommended and the kids enjoyed playing in amongst the trees.

(Translated by Google) It is located on the outskirts of Pilsen and is a large rural estate consisting of a large residential building, cowsheds, stables, small and large barns and a fence with two large arched gates. The residential building is an example of a rich peasant house with a traditional three-part layout (middle, front and back parts). A large hallway and kitchen with a stove and oven - the middle part; a living room and a small room in the front part and a living room in the back part. Also, an entire floor of the house is occupied by the utility part - stables and agricultural rooms. On the west side of the estate are located cowsheds and stables. On the south side, the estate is fenced with a barn and a shed. The barn has a teak and additional storage rooms. On the east side is a granary. The ground floor is divided into two large rooms, and the second floor and the attic represent a large open space. A small cellar was arranged under the granary. The territory is complemented by an orchard. Apple trees, pears, cherries and plums grow here. The estate is located on the site of the former village of Bolevec, which was later absorbed by the city of Plzeň. The first written mention of this farm dates back to 1635, although the farm is probably much older. In 1809, the residential building was completely rebuilt, and about twenty years later a granary and a barn were built. It is apple season, and ripe apples were lying under the trees. When I smelled them, I almost fell over from such a rich and sweet aroma, just a slipper. Apples in the store have not smelled of anything for a long time. And this was a real white filling. I sniffed and could not stop. The "hostess" - the cashier of the museum was very kind and offered to taste apple lemonade made from these apples for free. She said I can't sell it to you because it's expired :D but she drank it too. Very tasty and unusual lemonade. While I sat on a bench in the courtyard, drinking lemonade and sniffing apples, she chatted leisurely with the same visitors as me, and was in no particular hurry to close the museum at 5:00 p.m. It is located on the outskirts of Plzeň and represents a large rural residence consisting of a large residential house, cows, stables, small and large barns and a fence with two large arched gates. 17:00. Gerlach House is a historical monument located in Pilsen, with a rich history dating back to the time of the Hussite Wars. Legend has it that during the siege of Pilsen by the Hussites, a wealthy burgher hid a large treasure in the well located in the house's basement for safekeeping. It is said that this story was confirmed by sightings of a mysterious blue light floating above the water surface.

(Translated by Google) A house stood on this spot already during the Hussite Wars, and there was a well in the basement. And when the Hussites besieged the city of Pilsen, a rich burgher and the owner of the house kept a large treasure in the well just in case... This rumor was supposed to be confirmed by a blue light that sometimes floated above the surface of the water.
