Landskron Castle, a historic hilltop fortress in Villach, Austria, has been home to various noble families from the 14th to the 17th century. Although destroyed by fire in 1812, it remains a top attraction with its medieval walls drawing many visitors for its scenic ascent and breathtaking views.
Great location close to Villach with lots of attractions. You may book a session with eagles on your wedding day. This is a real castle, a fantastic background for photos. Stunning views on each side. Every couple gets to cut their cake with a medieval sword. There is a beautiful Chapel located within the castle, great for a romantic ceremony. As a photographer I can recommend this location as one of favourites.

You can't understand the lady who is speaking in English, actually translating the other one. But she's adorable :) the show itself is well handled and you can see they treat those animals with kindness. The negative thing is coffee (really bad) in the restaurant near the entrance, expensive souvenirs (7€ for a magnet) and the parking is way down the road so you have to walk UP HILL for 10min to reach the castle. Overall, great to see in person those magnificent birds of pray. We were amazed.
Kristina S — Google review
Breathtaking atmosphere and view.. problem with my visit was that we were a big group with optimized price and therefore the restaurant experience seems to suffer .. the plates were quite plain with good but not exceptional taste and the people were quite harsh - some of the statements even unfriendly.. I guess if it would have been a dinner for two with less monetary restrictions the whole experience would have been mega..
Evi N — Google review
Found this gem while driving from Austria to Italy. We almost got lost after getting off the highway, but once we got our bearings, it was a breeze. Once there, if available, you can park right up to the castle. Otherwise, just walk up the steep hill (15 minutes). The grounds are good enough, but the birds of pray displays and demonstration were a definitely 10/10!. Food around the place was ok, but the people working everywhere were so nice. A must-stop to see!!!
Luis C — Google review
Eagle show it was brilliant....german and english must do. Ideal for families. Food very good.
Maxwell W — Google review
Nice one day family trip. The bird show is something special, but it is good to know german, because there is not enough english speak. Beware of summer heat, you can get fried up in the arena. It is ynder open sky. No roof or shadow at all. If you are regarding that it's a interesting place with astonishing view.
Aljosa T — Google review
Parking is 2,5 Euros per day and you can see beautiful old castle and lovely Affenberge. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Andrea P — Google review
The food was delicious at the restaurant and the views were incredible.More than worth it to venture out and go see. The drive just to get to the castle is worth just taking the trip. There ia parking at the very top of the mountain so your only option isn't just at the very bottom. Its worth checking out. If you do decide to park at the bottom. Its quite the journey making it up that steep graded road about 1/2 Km to the top.

The Museum of the City of Villach is housed in a historic townhouse and offers guided tours and exhibits that explore the region's rich history and culture. The staff are known to be helpful, and visitors can expect to see a range of special exhibits alongside local historical displays. One recent exhibit focused on the history of beer, which was presented in an accessible way with full English translations available.
Beautiful hidden gem in the city! Kids-friendly, exhibition with interactive objects. You can borrow ipad and get information about paintings, ect. 90% is translated to English Cozy garden to have a rest afterwards Recommended!

Really liked the the temprary expedition "How wars end". The permanent exhibition was nice but !no English translation! It is as if they don't want foreigners to visit. Additionaly, no Slovenian translation which shows they have no respect for the Slovenian minority at the bilingual zone.

Manages to fit a lot in. Great building and location. The staff are very helpful. Have visited a few times now and each time there has been a different special exhibit alongside the local history. This time was history of beer and it's local relevance. A great amount of information presented in an easy to understand way and even had a full English translation available. Look forward to seeing what's in next spring.

The Parish Church of St. Jacob, located in Villach, Austria, is a captivating late Gothic structure that stands as the focal point of the old town. The church boasts stunning architecture and intricate details dating back to the 14th century. Visitors can admire frescoes, a richly decorated ceiling, and a rococo altar inside.
Stunning building, from the outside as well as inside!

The most important place of worship in Villach. Externally I can definitely say that it is one of the most beautiful buildings you can find in the city, internally it's not much but it is still worth a visit! Next to it there is the Bell Tower, of which you can reach the top and enjoy a discrete view of the city (that requires a small charge though)
Andrea N — Google review
Beautiful church in the Old Town of Villach. Hard to miss if you are in town
J — Google review
I was up and out early this morning and, in exploring the town at dawn, I saw the elegant old St. Jakob's Cathedral, right in the City-Center. It was so early that I didn't think it would be open, so when I tried the door and it opened, it was a lovely surprise to hear the fabulous old organ being played in the pre-dawn stillness. The organist was practicing and I came in and stood and let that rich music just flow over me and soak in. It seemed almost holy to hear this. I could not stay long and didn't even think about climbing the bell tower, but it didn't matter. I had already been blessed and it was time to hurry back to the hotel for breakfast. There is ample off-street parking in the property rear and along the side, but the town is small and walking anywhere is easiest

Attended the Villach Beer Festival on the first day. Church service was the kickoff to the festivities for the entire week. Everyone was there, all dressed in the traditional clothing.

The Stadthauptpfarrkirche in Villach, Austria, is a historical gem with stunning Gothic architecture and intricate details. Dating back to the 14th century, it has survived fires and renovations, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts and art lovers. The tower offers a breathtaking view of Villach, and a fun fact: there is a little kitchen at the top, possibly used to cook pigeons as they still nest there today. The price to visit this attraction is 3 Eur per person. Enjoy the view

The Stadtpfarrturm Villach is a Roman Catholic church located on the main square in Villach, with a history dating back to the 1100s. Despite enduring fires and other incidents, it boasts the tallest bell tower in Carinthia and features a Romanesque style. The interior is adorned with an ornate pink/white ceiling, impressive paintings, and an opulent altar.

(Translated by Google) Villach viewed from above... After climbing "a few steps" and a narrow spiral staircase with traffic lights every 4 minutes, you reach the highest vantage point in the city. There is a good all-round view of Carinthia's (beautiful - secret) capital and the surrounding area. 😉 With the Kärnten Card, the view from the parish tower is even “free”. It's definitely worth a visit! 👍🏻 (Original) Villach von oben betrachtet... Er ist auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert! 👍🏻

(Translated by Google) Viewing Villach from above is wonderful! A small entrance fee (free with the Carinthia Card) and then the approximately 239 steps to the top. History, such as the Way of St. James, a gallery through Carinthia, and a gallery of the surrounding mountains are vividly presented. At the very top, the watchman's apartment, which was used for fire prevention until 1934, is impressive. The bells ring every 15 minutes, and the 39-step spiral staircase, controlled by a traffic light system, is impressive. The view is magnificent and well worth it. Thank you ☺️ (Original) Villach von oben betrachten, wunderbar! Kleiner Eintrittspreis (KärntenCard gratis) und dann ca.239 Stufen nach oben. Tierpark Rosegg is a unique zoo set around castle ruins, offering visitors the chance to feed free-roaming animals and enjoy amenities such as a playground and restaurant. It is the largest animal park in Carinthia, housing around 300 animals from 35 different species within its extensive park area surrounding the historic castle hill. The facility features beautiful paths providing ample shade and resting areas.
A lovely animal park with a cafe and kids playground. There are the usual farm animals (donkeys, sheep, turkeys etc.) as well as deers which you can feed and more exotic animals eg lynx. Worth visiting if you are with kids
Tatiana K — Google review
Nothing special for the price you pay. Not many animals to see especially in the hot summer day. The food in the buffet was good, but pricey and they do not accept cards.
Matúš K — Google review
First time just for 2 hours before closing at 6pm. Beautiful deers, American bison, goats and best part is where they're free roaming around you. Super family place.
Matej Y — Google review
Petting Zoo is great and most animals will eat out of your hand. Sadly, the "Freigehege" is pretty much just a small trail and you barely see any animals not confined to cages.
Mosi — Google review
Nice animal park for 2 hours walk, excellent location. Not so big variety of animals, but they do have good living conditions, big cages or in some cases no cage at all. You can also feed deers from your hand. :)
Cherry M — Google review
Cool place to go with the kids! Little play yard inside and bring cash if you want to eat something. We entered with our karnten card so it was free. There is also a maze next to it.
Ge P — Google review
A small zoo, but with a nice concept and featuring mostly european animals (mostly but not exclusively). Large enclosures and a part of the zoo with no barriers between you and the animals. There is also a part with domestic animals and a playground for children
Nika L — Google review
The park is ok. The entrance fee and the prices in the restaurant are slightly above average. One big plus point is that you can feed the goats donkeys and deer at the beginning of the park. The animals have very spacious habitats so don't expect to see too many of them from closeby. Overall worth the experience especially if you are a tourist and happen to be in the area. Time you will need to visit the park: approximately 2 to 3 hours.

Spent there like 3 hours only on car parts of the museum, it's awesome.. Honestly, I would love to see all the cars from all sides, because of the details, curves and lines, but as I talked to the reception girl (professional and smiling girl in one person), place is a limit. Will totally recommend this collection/museum to others and if there will be some excursion with possibility to see whole cars, I'm totally in! Thank you for showing us these awesome pieces. PS: Look at a Seicento under wooden planks made me really sad..

Nice little museum. But there is one big fail. You cannot put a fake Lamborghini Countach Kit car in it and try to pass it as the real deal. People will know. The rest of the collection is pretty nice but this was a big let down hence only 2 stars.

Relief von Kärnten is a large-scale relief model of Carinthia located in Schillerpark, just south of the old town. Covering an area of 182 square meters, this impressive mockup provides a detailed representation of the province and its surrounding areas. Recently updated with a multimedia show, it offers visitors a 4D experience showcasing the region's geography and history.
This was an unexpected gem. Both my husband and I like looking at maps and know the area of Kaernten quite well. It was fascinating to get a birds eye view and to see the variety of terrain - we spent a lot longer there than we had expected. We had free entry with the Kaernten card but would have been happy even if we had had to pay. The photos on display of towns as they were was also very interesting especially when some of them have not changed substantially since the photos were taken.
Nicola M — Google review
Really nice place to have an overview of whole Kärnten. I suggest to see some of the media videos, they are extremely informative. The 3D flight, new from 2025, is nice. But, at least for me, I e had to stop after some minutes because I've had the symptoms of motion illness. Anyway, my son was 'flying' for quite a while without anything. I suggest to visit it.
Luca M — Google review
I really really like it. Highly recommended. Ask for the video if it's not on. They have it both in German and English. Don't know about other languages.
Zrinka N — Google review
It was awesome, both VR and the presentation. 5 Stars
Jakov — Google review
This place has potential. They have taken a quite old map, and added in a big multimedia light show. The ticket office was great in changing the language to English for us as we were the only people there. The media show was interesting, with useful information about the region. However, this is more suited to you get audiences. For a map need like me (and probably some of my friends) it would have been good to just have some time with the lights on so I could just study the map in fine detail, looking at all the places I'd been and still as planning to go to. There just wasn't any time of lights on, no show playing. The shows just went one to the next.

Amazing mapping, price €4 per person 👍👍👍

Excellent mockup (huge) of Carinthia with the surrounding areas. They have updated the experience with multimedia show, so its a kind of 4d experience now. Hope they come asap with an english version of the show and overall info material as well and ... seems to be a general "problem" in the city of Villach ... this POI/museum is closed on Sundays (as others) ...

Nestled in the heart of the city center, the Trinity Column stands as a stunning monument that has graced the landscape since 1739. This impressive structure is adorned with statues of significant figures, including the Virgin Mary and saints Florian and Roch, who symbolize protection against fire and plague respectively. As you explore this vibrant area, don’t miss out on experiencing the delightful Christmas markets nearby.

Unfortunately the coffee shops/bars around, literally hide the column from sight. It's hardly visible! Shame!

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately I'm a little disappointed 😞 because I expected much more. Very beautiful, old (how old?) stone column in the main square. The place with potential, but no information, no description, nothing...👎🙁👎. That's why the historical column is a bit uninteresting for tourists, a shame... Only two stars from me ⭐⭐, but definitely worth seeing...

(Translated by Google) Wonderful Austrian experience. Walk through the many Christmas markets, excellent food stalls (from typical sausages and various craft beers to traditional sweets, especially chocolate). Absolutely worth visiting (Original) Meravigliosa esperienza austriaca. Passeggiata attraverso i tanti mercatini natalizi, bancarelle di ottimo cibo (dai würstel tipici e le varie birre artigianali ai dolci tradizionali, soprattutto cioccolate). Da visitare assolutamente

Franziskaner Kloster St. Nikolai is a neo-Gothic church that may not have the historical significance of a medieval structure, but it compensates with its charming rustic Tyrolean atmosphere.

Church of St. Nicholas is a historic church in Hall, dedicated to the patron saint of sailors. Built in 1501 by knight Florian Waldauf, it houses over 2,000 relics and commemorates his survival from a storm at sea with Emperor Maximilian. The original church was mentioned in 1309 and belonged to the diocese of Laibach until 1751. Nearby attractions include an Austrian restaurant and a local brewery with its own bar.
Love the quietness and peacefulness when we entered the church. Beautiful , the arts on the wall tells the story of crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

The Church is nice externally, internally it's not gorgeous

1309 a parish Saint Nicholas is mentioned for the first time. This original church stood south-east of today's church on Trattengasse. The parish, whose territory lies north of the Drau , belonged to the diocese of Laibach from 1461 to 1751 . In 1627, as part of the Counter-Reformation , Capuchins were summoned to Villach, who built a church dedicated to St. Ludwig and a Capuchin monastery in 1629-1633 on the current site of the Nikolaikirche. Founders were Anna Maria Proy and Countess Ursula von Thannhausen. The damage to the buildings from the 1690 earthquake was repaired in 1691. In a fire in 1786, the Capuchin church, the monastery library and the church of St. Nicholas to the south-east suffered severe damage. In the same year, the Capuchin Church became the seat of the parish of St. Nicholas. In the following year the Capuchin monastery was closed and the former Capuchin church was converted into a parish church. A three-storey west tower with an onion dome was added and the monastery was partially demolished. In 1886 the parish was handed over to the Franciscans. A Franciscan monastery was built using the former Capuchin vicarage. In 1888 the old monastery was demolished and replaced by a new building. In 1892 the former Capuchin church was demolished and in 1892-1893 a neo-Gothic church was built based on a design by Peter Hütter and Father Johann Maria Reiter from Tyrol and consecrated in 1896. In 1906 St. Nikolai was raised to the status of a parish. During the Second World War the church suffered heavy bomb damage. Windows and roof had to be renewed in 1945. Further restorations were carried out in 1967, 1984 and 1995, and in 1981 the crypt was adapted for use in worship.

(Translated by Google) The oldest Protestant church in Villach, surrounded by a well-kept park with fountains and many old trees. An art project illustrates Jacob's Ladder (heaven's ladder on which the angels climb up and down) from the Bible. It consists of metal columns that symbolically go into the front of the church (slanted and straight) and come out again at the back. Description of the project on the left side of the church. In summer it is shady and cool in the park. There are many benches to rest.
