the malgorzata mirga-tas exhibition (summer 2025) is just ~12 (big) fabric images, 2 sculptures and 5 unremarkable texts.

A must-see for everyone interested in modern art and architecture. The personnel was extremely friendly, the toilets and the museum were clean and the exhibition by Jordan Wolfson blew my mind. You eventually have to wait a few minutes before being able to enter the last attraction (which isn't shown in the photos) but trust me, you've never seen anything like it. Definitely worth a visit!
Winke — Google review
Great building if you like your architecture. Weird exhibition but worth it and lovely and cool inside after the heat
Gwil R — Google review
Amazing building, but the current exhibition was very underwhelming, i felt ripped off. There were 3 floors with literally 2 items or showcasing videos in small screens. Please save your money and avoid the Imhof exhibition.
Constantina K — Google review
Good architecture but some materials do not 'dignify in dignity' as Zumthor would probably say.
Leonie K — Google review
Although the exhibition was not very good the building is totally worth it! Amazing architecture from Peter Zumtor

Situated in the heart of Bregenz, Austria, the Vorarlberg Museum underwent a major renovation and reopened in 2013. The museum's modern and dynamic design features a striking white cuboid adorned with an impressive display of 16,656 flowers made from PET bottle bases imprinted in concrete. It offers permanent exhibitions that delve into Vorarlberg's history, art, and architecture, including a showcase of Roman archaeological finds from Brigantium.

Worthwhile museum about the history of the region.
Dirk — Google review
A museum featuring various installations and local history. If you're not careful you may end up taking a few hours to see everything that's exhibitioned because there's a lot to see. The architecture of the whole building is incredible as well! Worth a visit if you're interested in art, local history and various other types of art.
Winke — Google review
I was disappointed. It is beautiful and well displayed, but i found the part about Roman history very shallow, and mostly aimed at children.
Frederic L — Google review
The view room on the fourth floor is breathtaking, the forward art expression intersect the entire museum.
Zachary H — Google review
Mix of temporary, general-interest exhibitions and permanent installations focused on local history. Both the architecture and exhibit style is state of the art; the archaeological section has been made especially child-friendly and immersive. A "secret" panorama room on the top floor gives a great view of happenings on the promenade and across Lake Constance. Overall the experience is varied and enjoyable not only for the exbihits themselves. The Vorarlberg Museum is a much easier way to pass time on a wet afternoon than the Kunsthaus. The ground floor cafe is always very lively and in a great location for people-watching.

Pfänder, situated just above Bregenz, is a popular destination for a day trip offering breathtaking scenery. Visitors can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city and the lake from this famous vantage point in Vorarlberg. Accessible by foot or via the Pfanderbahn cable car, which takes only six minutes to reach the summit with an altitude difference of over 600 meters, Pfänder provides an ideal opportunity to immerse oneself in the great outdoors and picturesque landscapes.
Amazing views on a good sunny day. Ours was at the end of August. Very cool, interesting zoo. Top class operation overall, clean and efficient. Not much waiting at the lift and parking was not a problem either.

Kevin Q — Google review
An amazing spot with breathtaking views over Lake Constance and the surrounding mountains! The cable car ride up is quick and scenic, and there are plenty of walking paths and viewpoints at the top. It’s perfect for a day trip — you can grab a bite at the restaurant, enjoy the fresh air, and take some incredible photos. Definitely one of the highlights in Bregenz!

Very nice mountain for a hike. You can also take the Sailbahn. The hike is not an easy one with steep roads. You need to gain almost 600meters from the bottom which was hard for me ;) the place is amazing and offers the best view of Bodensee from the top. Sunsets are really cool to watch from the top. Must visit !
MIHIR S — Google review
A very beautiful and quiet place, overlooking three countries: Austria, Switzerland and Germany, you can see the top of the Alpine mountain range, you can go up on foot or through an air lift that costs 15 euro to go up and down or 8euro to go up or down only. A place I recommend to any tourist to visit

At 1064m this mountain offers a spectacular view of Lake constance. The places has lot to offer includes hiking, wild park, restaurants , kids playing area , cable car , horse rides etc. The surrounding forest area , Swiss mountains and Bodensee will provide you an enchanting view. Martinsturm is a well-preserved Baroque tower in the heart of Bregenz's Old Town, offering panoramic views of the city and Lake Constance. The tower features a chapel with 14th-century Gothic frescoes and boasts the largest onion dome in Europe, built in 1601 as a granary. Visitors can climb up the stairs to reach the top for stunning photo opportunities and to admire the surrounding scenery.
View is good. There is a ticket for getting into tower.
Rishikesh B — Google review
The Martinsturm in Bregenz, Austria, is an exceptional historical site, rich in culture and history. This former grain storage tower, located in the first courtyard of the Counts of Bregenz, stands as a testament to the architectural and historical evolution of the city. Architectural and Historical Significance Originally a lower tower built in the first half of the 13th century, the Martinsturm was later elevated to its current height by the architect Benedetto Prato between 1599 and 1601. This transformation marked the tower as one of the first Baroque buildings in the Lake Constance region and home to the largest onion dome in Central Europe. The tower’s onion dome, built primarily for aesthetic rather than military purposes, makes it a distinctive landmark in Bregenz . Cultural and Artistic Heritage The tower has seen various uses over the centuries, from a defensive structure to a lookout point for fire watch. It has also housed a small military history museum and, since April 2015, a city history museum with a permanent exhibition. The Martinsturm’s history is intricately linked with the Martinskapelle (St. Martin’s Chapel), which was expanded in 1362 and features remarkable frescoes, some of which were rediscovered and restored between 1910 and 1914 by the painter Florus Scheel . Visitor Experience While the interior of the Martinsturm was closed to visitors in January 2024, its exterior remains a sight to behold. The tower’s impressive Baroque architecture and the largest onion dome in Central Europe are visually stunning. From its highest floors, visitors can enjoy a 360° panoramic view of the city, though this was not possible during the renovation period . Surrounding Area Situated in the Bregenzer Oberstadt, the Martinsturm is part of a historical complex that includes the adjoining Martinskapelle and a residential building. The area is rich in history, with city walls dating back to the 13th-16th centuries still largely intact. The tower forms the northeast corner of this historical ring wall . Overall Impression The Martinsturm in Bregenz is a captivating historical site that offers a unique glimpse into the architectural and cultural history of the region. Its distinctive Baroque architecture and the artistic treasures within the adjacent chapel make it a worthwhile visit for those exploring Bregenz’s old town. While the interior was inaccessible for renovation, the tower’s external beauty and historical significance still provide a memorable experience for visitors.
Cláudio C — Google review
I loved walking through the Bregenz Oberstadt. The area has such an elegant, historic feel with its cobblestone streets and well-kept old buildings. The Martinsturm really adds to the charm of the whole upper town. A must-see when you viait Bregenz.

We didn't get into the museum. For some reason it is closed and there are no messages about it anywhere. Outside, both the tower and the old town are very interesting. Worth a look.

Kirche St. Gallus is an impressive parish church located on an elevated position in Bregenz, making it easily recognizable. Visitors are struck by the beauty of the silver altar, nativity scene, and the monument to the victims of World Wars in the churchyard. The church's architecture, art, and peaceful atmosphere create a breathtaking experience for visitors. It is a well-maintained historic site and offers a serene environment for meditation and prayer.
The church makes an impression. I liked the silver altar and the nativity scene. Very beautiful. But most of all I was impressed by the monument to the victims of the World Wars in the churchyard. It is very symbolic, given that a cruel and inhuman war is now going on in the European country of Ukraine.
Виктория З — Google review
Kirche St. Gallus, located in the picturesque city of Bregenz, Austria, stands as an architectural and spiritual beacon. This church, while not as widely known as some other European ecclesiastical structures, holds its unique charm and significance in the region. Architectural Significance The architecture of Kirche St. Gallus is a harmonious blend of historical styles, predominantly Baroque, with elements that date back to earlier periods. The church’s exterior, with its elegant steeple and classic Baroque elements, presents a visually pleasing aspect against the backdrop of Bregenz’s cityscape. The interior, noted for its intricate designs and art, is a testament to the artistic and religious heritage of the region. Historical and Cultural Relevance Kirche St. Gallus is not just a place of worship but also a custodian of local history and culture. It has served the spiritual needs of the Bregenz community for centuries and is an integral part of the city’s cultural identity. The church’s dedication to St. Gallus, an Irish monk and the patron saint of the city, underscores its historical roots and the blending of local and broader European religious traditions. Visitor Experience As of January 2024, visitors to Kirche St. Gallus were unable to enter the church due to renovations. While this closure may have been disappointing for those wishing to experience its interior first-hand, it highlights the ongoing efforts to preserve and maintain this historic structure. The renovation ensures that Kirche St. Gallus continues to be a vital part of Bregenz’s architectural and cultural landscape for future generations. Surrounding Area Situated in the heart of Bregenz, the church is surrounded by quaint streets and local establishments, offering visitors a glimpse into the everyday life of the city. The proximity to Lake Constance also provides an opportunity to combine a visit to the church with scenic walks and exploration of the lakeside. Overall Impression Kirche St. Gallus in Bregenz is a notable landmark that embodies the religious, historical, and architectural heritage of the region. While the temporary closure for renovations in January 2024 may have limited access, it serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving such significant historical structures. Once the renovations are complete, Kirche St. Gallus will undoubtedly continue to be a cherished part of Bregenz’s cultural and spiritual identity.

Seebühne Bregenz is a remarkable 7000-seat amphitheater that hosts an array of exquisitely produced operas and musical performances, forming part of the renowned Bregenz Festival held annually in July and August. The floating stage, set on Lake Constance, boasts impressive lifelike structures that change with each event. This venue has been honored as the best music theater festival at the International Opera Awards.
I had the absolute pleasure of attending a performance of Freischütz at the Bregenzer Festspiele, and it was an experience I will never forget. Despite the rain, the performance was nothing short of stunning. The stage design was a masterpiece, creating a truly immersive and magical atmosphere. The attention to detail was impeccable, and the way the stage transformed throughout the opera was a marvel to behold. The talented cast delivered powerful and emotive performances that brought the story to life. The music was simply breathtaking, and the overall production was a testament to the artistry and dedication of the Bregenzer Festspiele. I would highly recommend this performance to anyone seeking a truly unforgettable night of opera. It is a must-see for any lover of the arts. Tip: don't forget to bring a raincoat in case of rain.

The Seebühne in Bregenz is a spectacular open-air stage located on Lake Constance, hosting world-renowned performances as part of the Bregenzer Festspiele. With a capacity of 7,000, it offers a unique experience where opera and musicals are performed against the stunning backdrop of the lake. The stage itself is a masterpiece of architecture, often using innovative designs to incorporate the surrounding natural beauty. If you ever have the chance to visit during the festival, it’s an unforgettable experience.

An experience one should try at least once in their lifetime. There's great theatrical performance and singing. There's animotronics, fire, smoke, acrobatics, synchronized swimming, theater, comedy, intricate stage design and costumes, captivating music, beautiful setting and just a unique experience. Bring binoculars if you have them handy, and something warm for the evening. Stage is open during the day free of charge to the public to view from the stands/seats.

We visited today. I was amazed from the quality of the settings. Could be a Hollywood blockbuster. Amazing designer job. If in Bregenz don't miss. There is also a great playground very close by so a visit with kids is also recommended

This years performance of Puccini's Madame Butterfly on the Seebühne in Bregenz was just fantastic. A truly moving, emotional story with a first class cast. Breathtaking opera voices, orchestral accompaniment, sound, lighting stage set and special effects. At sundown, the unique atmosphere of the lakeside stage is especially beautiful 😍
Hugh S — Google review
Every play becomes magical with all the animatronics the people of the opera house build for every show.
Νικόλαος Γ — Google review
Sadly I can't recommend this show unless you really have some leftover money. The stage is really nice but the show itself was just ok and for the money I paid (100euro + extra expenses) I expected more. Ended up leaving the show very disappointed. Apart from the show. The one I attended got cancelled after about 65minutes due to the weather so no refund as it lasted more than an hour. Honestly disgusting behavior as it was already raining for quite a few minutes and even predicted by weather apps. Only selected people (rich people) can enjoy a continued small version on an inside stage. I don't understand why an outdoors theater has no weather backup plan.

Beautiful place but any tourist activities that are described in Bregenz tourism pamphlets are not actually available. I tried going to their restaurant but it's closed down because it's tennants (the restaurant operators) had to shut down. The history of the cloister goes back to the 11th century which is cool but at it's heart, it's a fancy private school. Not a great place for tourists to go. It'll creep out the kids😅

Oberstadt, located in Bregenz, has become the trendiest quarter with its exclusive shops and historic streets. The newly designed Kirchstrasse is home to unique stores like a lighting shop offering lamps made from traditional fabric and a handmade chocolate delicacy shop. This upper part of Bregenz is slightly elevated and surprisingly tranquil, providing a peaceful escape from the tourist bustle near the lakeshore.
When I see such beautiful and colorful streets, I always think of books. The stories in novels are always beautiful, colorful and exciting. On the contrary, some are bad, scary or full of love and passion. But somehow they inspire you.

Bregenzer Festspiele is a must-visit event that takes place every second year, offering a stunning atmosphere and a great show. It features wonderful open-air operas like Madame Butterfly, providing an impressive performance in each act. The festival offers a unique Austrian experience with its outdoor dining options and top-rated restaurants serving Italian cuisine, pizza, and more. This cultural extravaganza is highly recommended for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the arts during the summer months in Bregenz.
Saw Der Freischütz at the Bregenzer Festspiele this July and it was absolutely breathtaking. The lake stage, the visuals, the music, everything was so powerful and beautifully done. I didn’t expect to get so emotional, but the story and performances really pulled me in. Even though it was 2 hours straight with no intermission, it never felt long. Such a unique and unforgettable experience. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Fatima S — Google review
You have to distinguish between the creative aspects of the Bregenzer Festspiele and the guest experience. The first is worthy of its reputation, the latter is amateurish. The stage, the singing, the costumes, the location are all beyond criticism. I've been four times and, even as someone with no interest in opera, the performance has always been a rewarding experience. Your enjoyment thereof is however undermined by neglected basics: the lack of toilets is laughable (allow 20 minutes of queueing for the gents); the hard, narrow plastic seats hurt within 45 minutes; the view is always seriously obstructed because the raking is too flat. By far the biggest flaw is the audio: it is quiet and unclear. The warning about phone use is loud and clear, but then the dialog/singing is indiscernible. Most guests are left reading the subtitles, from which random sentences are missing. Comparable outdoor stages better understand that what happens on stage is only part of the experience. So the Bregenzer Festspiele is a worthwhile experience, if you have realistic expectations - this is not simply a pleasurable night at the theater.
Graham B — Google review
I am visiting the festival next once every two years for the last 12 years and have never been disappointed. I would recommend to buy premium tickets that include a seat inside in case of the opera having to be moved due to bad weather. Also arriving early and exploring Bregenz beforehand is a good idea as Bregenz alone is worth a visit.

We visited “The Freischütz” by Carl Maria von Weber, which is considered a key work of the German romantic opera. We can highly recommend it: amazing, very elaborate decorations built on the lake, great music and singing, large cast, lots of special effects and overall an outstanding performance. The story takes place in a rural German village. Max, a young forester, must win a shooting contest to marry Agathe, the daughter of the head forester, Kuno. However, Max has lost his confidence after a series of failures. In desperation, he turns to Kaspar, another forester who has secretly made a pact with dark forces. Kaspar convinces Max to cast "magic bullets" in the haunted Wolf’s Glen at midnight. These bullets are supposed to never miss their target, but the last bullet is controlled by the devil. At the contest, Max fires his final bullet at a target meant for the competition — but the bullet, influenced by evil, instead aims at Agathe. Miraculously, she is saved by a sacred wreath she wears, and Kaspar is struck down instead. In the end, Max confesses his actions. Rather than being punished severely, he is given a year to prove his worth, after which he may marry Agathe. The opera blends elements of folklore, supernatural horror, love, and redemption, and is known for its vivid atmosphere, especially the eerie Wolf’s Glen scene.

A beautiful place and a fantastic venue, I am here most years for the opera and it never fails to enchant me. It's a very special place and a beautiful lake to go with, I would visit every year and every year again. Food is superb, try the local beer Moran, wine is good value and very tasty, you should come to Bregenz and have a fantastic time, 2 to 3 days is perfect. Enjoy

This has been on my bucket list since I found out about an amphitheater on Lake Constanz! It did not disappoint! Performance: We saw "Der Freischütz" (The Marksman) by Carl Maria von Weber. While it was in German, the story was easy to follow, except perhaps the ending, which was unexpected for me. The actors were amazing, especially when working in a stage with water throughout. Staging: The star of the show! A stage built on a lake with a lake on it. Dilapidated buildings illustrate the young Agathe's desperation to go anywhere else. The staging added to the morose nature of the setting. The use of fire and water defines the infernal struggle going on with Max as he tries to win Agathe's hand. Seating: Stage on the lake, seating on the land. It still had an intimate feeling with 7,000 seats. With the slope of the seating, there shouldn't have been a bad sight line. Although it can be a little intimidating for some. Therefore, if you are uncomfortable with height, choose seats in the lower rows. Another tip would be to bring a pad for your seat. Sitting for two or more hours on weather-resistant plastic seats can be uncomfortable. Theater: The theater was nicely laid out. The restrooms are clean. The lobby is well designed with easy access to amenities. The after show bars provided a nice area to discuss the show. It included special drinks for the festival! I was more than satisfied with my visit and enjoyed it immensely!

Pretty decent casino, you spend 27 euro for 30 euro on Chips, the best deal I have seen in all casinos in the Bodensee area. Only problem is blackjack game card is shuffled after EVERY ROUND. This is in a way unfair and does not provide any opportunity to count cards. So in this sense does not recommend.

(Translated by Google) Today around 10:50 a.m. I came to the local police station at Bahnhofstrasse 51 (Bregenz) because of the fine (dated August 14, 2024) for my car, which had been parked in the public parking lot for several days. Each day is paid 24 hours in advance. On this day, June 14th. Since it was very hot, I didn't close the windows at all and the ticket flew away and fell into the invisible area. That's why an agent fined me. But the ticket was paid and I wanted to show it at the police station to appeal. But there at the police station, in front of his partner, an officer didn't even give me a paper to file this objection. He called me a liar (we had the entire conversation in English), asked me to pay the fine and made a punitive gesture for me to go outside. I have a bad impression of the local police in Bregenz and will tell all my friends about this case. An diesem Tag, 14.06.

Also noticed no tables were being cleared around us in the whole 90 minutes we were there. Cappuccino was ok but 5CHF and very small… My partner also noticed a very filthy mess left in the men’s bathroom, not the staffs fault necessarily but it was gross.

(Translated by Google) We only saw the castle from the outside, as we were there before the castle opened. Hohenbregenz Castle is the ruin of a medieval castle near Bregenz. The ruins are located southeast of Bregenz on the 598-meter-high Gebhardsberg, a popular excursion destination due to its expansive views of Lake Constance. The castle was built in the last quarter of the 11th century (before 1097) by the Counts of Bregenz (Ulriche). The castle was first mentioned in 1209. In 1143, the castle passed into the hands of the Counts of Pfullendorf, but they owned it only briefly. Just a few years later (1170), it passed to the Count Palatine Hugo von Tübingen (father of Hugo I, Count von Montfort). The upper part of the castle was sold in 1451, and the lower part in 1523 to the Habsburgs, who converted it into the seat of the Austrian bailiffs. In the early 17th century, the castle was expanded into a fortress. In 1647, at the end of the Thirty Years' War, they managed to capture the Swedish forces without a fight. They blew up the fortress the same year by detonating five mines (see Naval War on Lake Constance 1632-1648). Of the medieval elements, only the ring wall of the fortress and parts of the palace remain. In 1723, the pilgrimage church of St. Gebhard was built in the former castle palace, from which the mountain derives its name. Zaledwie kilka lat później (1170) trafił do palatyna Hugo von Tübingen (ojciec Hugo I, hrabiego von Montfort). Górna część zamku została sprzedana w 1451 roku, a dolna w 1523 roku Habsburgom, którzy uczynili z zamku siedzibę komorników austriackich.

I liked the whole complex of buildings. But the library hall, where the cathedral used to be, was very impressive. What a beauty! How thoughtfully done! I felt like I was in a fairy tale!
