Museo di Palazzo Taglieschi is located in the Parco dei Monti Rognosi, a natural reserve in the Valtiberina Toscana. The museum, housed in a historic building constructed from medieval tower houses, has been showcasing art and architectural pieces since 1975. Visitors can admire works such as a Nativity by Andrea della Robbia and a wooden sculpture of the Virgin by Jacopo della Quercia.
Well worth a visit..beautiful Renaissance artifacts and buildings to look at and marvel at the wonderful craftsmanship. Lovely town to wander around filled with narrow winding streets. Great places to eat and drink..full of character. Loved it. Recomend spending the day there. Check out some of the beautiful churhes too and see one of the most historic paintings of all..

I have previously lived in Italy and have visited dozens of museums throughout the peninsula; this was by far the worst Italian museum experience I have ever had. Better artifacts can be viewed in any antique Italian church for free, and the cold, unwelcoming, and condescending staff seem to try their best to destroy whatever atmospheric charm this small, bush-league exhibition could possess. Museo di Palazzo Taglieschi is a thoroughly mediocre museum paired with a thoroughly unfriendly staff. Don’t waste your time or money.
Caleb G — Google review
This would be a nice museum, however the staff hovers over you as if waiting for you to break or touch something. Our family went through - my husband and four children ages 13 to 22. My 22 year old son ( an honors history major - who studied a year in Viterbo) was told he was not allowed to go ahead of us and had to stay with us. My son has been in museums all over Italy much larger and grander than this museum and was never treated this rudely. It was ridiculous. Hard to enjoy the art and history while someone looks over your shoulder and directs you to the next room. She even opened the door to let us exit.

(Translated by Google) Visited with everything that the Borgo contains... which is a lot. The Palace, which we see today, is the Renaissance result of an incorporation of previously existing tower houses and older structures and was the home of the Taglieschi family. Only this has already been "discovered" (I guarantee because it is a "choppy" route in a suggestive ups and downs) in the visit to the State Museum which collects the testimonies of the territory ranging from "material" coming from abandoned churches and not to collections such as those of weapons. For those who are lucky enough to happen upon "themed" visits there is the possibility of accessing the loggia from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the village but... it didn't happen to me... alas. It is possible to purchase a single ticket for entry to the Battle Museum. Remember that you enter on the hour (for example, I entered at 11:00) because you are accompanied on the visit. Once out I recommend climbing the stairs of Via della Torre... you can observe photographic glimpses at every step.

(Translated by Google) The multitude of works of art collected in this beautiful Palace essentially come from the territory. Spread over three floors and a basement, it displays, among others, a wonderful "Madonna and Child" by Jacopo della Quercia and a beautiful "Nativity" by Andrea della Robbia. At the entrance it is possible to purchase a cumulative ticket, which can be used for the Battle Museum opposite. Museum to absolutely visit. (Translated by Google) An absolutely fascinating visit to a museum which is a more unique than rare set of ancient tower houses conglomerated in a single labyrinthine palace. Inside there are very valuable wooden sculptures of sacred art that come from the surrounding area. The Madonnas with Child are also enchanting because they offer the possibility of enjoying women's fashion from the thirteenth to the fifteenth century down to the smallest details, in the rendering of the colored fabrics and the hairstyles painted on the wood. The Madonna by Jacopo della Quercia is marvelous with its sweet and intense expression. The lady who accompanied us on the visit was perfect and explained very interesting things to us.

Museums
Housed in the 16th-century Palazzo del Marzocco, Museo della Battaglia e di Anghiari showcases a diverse range of collections spanning from prehistory to ancient Roman times. The museum features an extensive display of ancient firearms and local ceramics from the 18th century. A significant portion is dedicated to a digitized collection of Leonardo's battle-related drawings. The museum also highlights the history of the Battle of Anghiari and its connection to Leonardo da Vinci.
Small but got everything.

Visit only if you're intetested about this kind of history and battles. The tour inside this museum takes around 40 mins (We forgot to see the garden). There're 3 floors, you can find two 3D maps explaining where happened this battle, and how is the area. There're also paintings, materials of the battle. Then you can watch a short movie (in Italian & English) explaining about its history, then telling about the painting that exist in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. It's good also for kids because it's very simple, and not so boring. On the ground floor they sell collection of books also for kids, and some toys related to the battle, or Leonardo da Vinci in general.

(Translated by Google) It's a pretty disappointing museum. A very pleasant and well-kept container, the sixteenth-century Palazzo del Marzocco, corresponds to a modest content, not up to expectations. Of the battle of Anghiari there are only a few illustrative panels and a model of the deployments, which are not of high quality. The sector dedicated to weapons is very sparse and the weapons date back to centuries after the battle. Sure, you can read the fascinating story of the lost wall painting that Leonardo created for the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, but frankly you can read it anywhere. Virtual reconstructions just need to be made available and you can view them more comfortably at home. There are some paintings, but always without any connection with the battle, except a seventeenth-century copy of part of Leonardo's lost work and little else. The battle of Anghiari fought in 1440 between the Milanese troops of the Viscontis and the coalition led by the Republic of Florence deserves the presence of real and not virtual objects.

Nestled at the pinnacle of Anghiari's main square, Palazzo Pretorio is a stunning historical gem that dates back to the 14th century. Recently restored, this magnificent building serves as the town hall and showcases an impressive exterior adorned with coats of arms representing various vicars and podestas who once upheld justice under Florentine rule. A charming niche on its facade houses a partially faded sacred fresco, adding to its allure.

Castello Di Sorci, a castle of Lombard origin, has a rich history dating back to the 12th century. Originally owned by the Barbolani of Galbino, it later came under the Tarlati family and then Florentine domination in 1385. The castle was home to Baldaccio Bruni, a renowned mercenary captain praised by Niccolo Machiavelli.

The Badia di San Bartolomeo, also known as Chiesa di Badia, is an ancient Catholic church in Anghiari. Constructed by the Camaldolese monks in 1104, it holds the distinction of being one of the oldest churches in the area. Not immediately recognizable as a church from its exterior, the interior is notably unique and strikingly asymmetrical due to numerous modifications made over the centuries.
(Translated by Google) The abbey of San Bartolomeo was founded by the Camaldolese monks at the beginning of the 12th century. The convent church, rebuilt after being used as a stronghold, has a curious asymmetrical interior due to the renovations. Expanded in the 15th century, it underwent further alterations in the 18th century which brought the interior to its currently visible state. Among the works preserved inside, a finely crafted wooden Madonna and Crucifix stand out.

(Translated by Google) The construction of the church is not certain, however the first document that mentions it dates back to 1105. It was the church of the Camaldolese monastery of S. Bartolomeo and constituted the first place of worship in Anghiari. Subsequently rebuilt, it was modified in 1446 creating the current asymmetrical interior. The beautiful stone facade is a bit surprising due to the presence of unusual architectural elements such as a small terrace and windows typical of homes. Even the interior, with a single nave, is particular because it is asymmetrical, meaning the presbytery is not aligned with the rest of the church. The stone altar is interesting as are two wooden sculptures, one of the Madonna with child and a Crucifix from the end of the 13th century which every year, on May 3rd, is carried in procession on the feast day of the Holy Cross.

Every detail has been attended to. The house and location was amazing and they made us feel very welcome and at home. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious every morning. And if you have the option, we'd highly recommend dinner at the resort. I literally have nothing negative to say about this place or the hosts. 5-stars all around!

We had the most amazing few days at Il Cordo in beautiful Anghiari - wish we had booked more days there! We were met by the lovely host Pierre, who was so kind to serve us a late lunch after a long drive. Both hosts were very helpfull with local tips and bike routes in the area, and always ready to help with everything you might need. The property is stunning, set in the most beautiful nature, but still walking distance to the very picturesque town Anghiari with restaurants, bars and of course gellato. Lovely room that stayed cool even though the temperature stayed above 30 degrees, and the pool area had plenty of shady spots so it was still possible to stay outside in the heat. We are already very excited to come back and have more time for all the different activities the property and the surrounding nature has to offer.

Nestled at the base of a west-facing hillside in Anghiari, Pieve di Santa Maria alla Sovara is a charming parish church that captures the essence of history and tranquility. With roots tracing back to the 11th century, though believed to have origins as far back as the 7th or 8th century, this pre-Romanesque structure features a classic Latin cross design with three apses.

Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie - Propositura Insigne Di Anghiari is a charming church located in the village of Anghiari, accessible from the strada provinciale. The church, also known as the Propositura, was built in the 18th century and houses several notable artworks including Giovanni Antonio Sogliano's Ultima Cena (the Last Supper) and Domenico Ubaldini's Deposition from the Cross.
(Translated by Google) Beautiful Church full of treasures to discover... certainly the most interesting I visited today in the Borgo. It is a place of Propositura, that is, it is the place where the Provost (Prelate title) resides. Inside, behind the main altar, there is the Madonna della Misericordia, a work by Andrea Della Robbia (in Piazza Mameli, where it was originally placed, inside a newsstand with doors, today there is a copy) but above all a In my opinion, this is a work of extreme interest by Sogliani... or rather two; the Last Supper and the Washing of the Feet. Another church that can be visited is, at the entrance of the village, in front of the road that goes down to Sansepolcro (a "straight line" which in the first part has a slope of 13% ... passing through the places that saw the famous Battle take place of Anghiari) the Church of the Cross where, it is said, Saint Francis, returning from Assisi, planted a wooden Cross. Lorenzo Taglieschi, a 17th century chronicler to whom one of the museums in Piazza Mameli is dedicated, is buried inside. Also worth mentioning are works by Passignano and Curradi. I left it for last, but only because being in Via Garibaldi, it lends itself to being visited together with the Museums of Piazza Mameli, the Church of Sant'Agostino. It is in Baroque style but, in my opinion, it needs a serious recovery plan... nevertheless it has its reasons.

(Translated by Google) As we enter the Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie in Anghiari, we immediately feel the deep historical and spiritual value of this place. The church, also known as Propositura Insigne, stands proudly in this medieval town, whose rich history is reflected in every stone and every alley. From the outside we are impressed by the simple yet elegant appearance of the facade, which is typical of Renaissance churches. As you enter the church, the atmosphere becomes calmer and more sublime. The high ceilings and ornate walls draw our eyes upward as we admire the beauty of the frescoes and altars. This church was built in the 15th century and is considered a significant example of Renaissance architecture in Tuscany. It was originally built to house a miraculous image of the Virgin Mary, which is particularly revered by believers in the region. In the middle of the main altar is the valuable image of the Madonna delle Grazie, which is considered the sacred center of the church. We feel the long tradition of faith that radiates from this place and can well imagine how generations of believers came here to seek comfort and help. What is particularly impressive is the connection between art and religious devotion, which is reflected in the church's furnishings. Around the main altar and in the side aisles we see several beautiful paintings and sculptures depicting various religious scenes. These works of art come from different eras and add to the sublime atmosphere. We also notice the special silence that fills the room and we sense that this is a place of contemplation and prayer. The history of the church is closely linked to that of Anghiari, a town known for its strategic location and the famous Battle of Anghiari in 1440. This battle, which took place nearby, was an important moment in Tuscan history and was even immortalized in a lost painting by Leonardo da Vinci. In this church, art, history and spirituality combine in a unique way. We feel deeply touched by the atmosphere in the Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie. It is not only a place of faith, but also a living monument of Tuscan art and culture. As of: September 25, 2024 *Many people know that they are unhappy. The Chiesa di Santo Stefano, constructed during the medieval era, consists of a central core flanked by three apses and an entrance. This captivating place of worship houses a fifteenth-century panel called Madonna and Child with Saints, created by the talented Florentine artist Domenico di Michelino. It is a small yet distinctive church that annually showcases a delightful nativity scene within its confines.
(Translated by Google) The church of Santo Stefano is a sacred building located in via della Battaglia in Anghiari. It is an ancient building of worship, an example of early medieval architecture (7th-8th century) with clear Byzantine-Ravenna influence. The church is located outside the town walls and more precisely at the beginning of the plain that reaches up to Sansepolcro. It is made up of a central nucleus with a square plan, on the sides of which there are three protruding apses and a quadrilateral body with an entrance function. Inside, the columns with Ionic capitals are Roman elements. Interpretations on the function and chronology of this church are conflicting. The hypothesis that it was a Catholic church built in the Lombard era as opposed to another, now disappeared, of Arian cult appears more likely. The 15th century panel found inside is valuable and depicts the Madonna with Child and Saints by the Florentine painter Domenico di Michelino, unfortunately hit by the flood of 1966.

Nestled between a tributary of the Sovara River and the Provincial Road of Libbia, Galbino Castle stands as a remarkable testament to medieval architecture. Originally built in the 11th century, this castle has undergone significant transformations over time, evolving from a feudal stronghold for the Counts of Montauto into an elegant noble residence. Its rectangular layout features a central turret and cylindrical towers at each corner, while an exquisite loggia adorned with stone columns graces its facade.
Had a fabulous stay at Castello di Galbino for my husbands 50th birthday. The setting is stunning - beautiful peaceful countryside & an authentic tuscan castle. We were so well looked after by the housekeeper. (Translated by Google) Cycling along the road that leads to Galbino, dirt and slightly uphill, you would never expect to find yourself in front of such a beautiful Castle. Immersed in a still uncontaminated nature and centuries-old plants, it is impossible not to be enveloped by the peace and serenity of the place!!!. Galbino is also one of the most popular refreshment points during the vintage cycling tour "l'intrepida" which takes place on the third Sunday of October.

Castle
Castello di Montauto, located in Anghiari, is a medieval castle with a rich history dating back to the 12th century. Perched on a hill at 786 meters tall, it offers stunning views of the Tiber Valley and is surrounded by lush greenery and woods. The castle has undergone renovations over the years but still bears witness to its past, including damage from World War II bombings. Visitors can explore the beautiful central body with its imposing tower and detached church.
This landmark of the past brings back all of the beautiful history that the region went through in its history. The magnificent sightseeing leaves a mark on any man and woman that as a taste for the pretty. Welcomed by the Barbolani family, the castle feels as warm and welcoming as the Mediterranean breeze that caresses your skin. The only bad thing that could be said, is that lack of people seeing this beauty of a place. Highly recommended! Forza Italia

(Translated by Google) Beautiful historic village on the border between Tuscany and Umbria. The town is famous for the battle of Anghiari in 1440 fought between Milan and Florence and painted several times (also by Leonardo). The town is quite large and is perched on a hill. There is a road (called the stradone) that divides the town in two, the newer part and the old one. The lanes, the squares, the houses are beautiful. Characteristic walls with a beautiful walk all around. From the various viewpoints there are beautiful views of the plain and the surrounding mountains. There are several places to eat or have a drink. Despite being very touristy, it is not overrun by people (except obviously for parties) and is therefore liveable and quiet. Truly one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
