Museums
Krannert Art Museum, located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Champaign, is a vibrant hub for contemporary international arts. It boasts a permanent collection of over 10,000 works dating back to 4 BC, showcasing diverse cultures and artistic expressions. The museum features changing exhibits in various media and offers free entry. With its rich array of art from different periods and regions, it's a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts.
We recently visited this museum, which focuses primarily on contemporary art, and had a wonderful experience despite some galleries from the permanent collection being closed for renovations. The temporary exhibitions and available galleries more than made up for it and we spent about one hour enjoying the art. The collection of African artifacts, particularly the masks, was fascinating and helped us gain a deeper understanding of their cultural significance. We also appreciated the opportunity to view a rare, smaller Rothko and admired the works of Chilean artist Roberto Matta, whose pieces added a unique perspective to the museum’s offerings. One highlight was how clearly the museum labeled its new acquisitions. This provided valuable insights into emerging trends and artists shaping the contemporary art landscape. We were especially interested in the art for social change exhibition and seeing art from black artists. The section on lesbian perspectives stood out as intriguing and educational, offering a window into diverse experiences. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, and maps and brochures were available to guide us through the exhibits. Admission is free, with donations encouraged. Public parking is available in front of the museum with special permit, though not required during the weekends. The museum also has water fountains and comfortable, clean restrooms. We highly recommend this museum and hope to come back soon!!

Absolutely amazing! This art museum was well put together and you could see the care that the team puts in to the preservation of the collections. There was a very cool Mediterranean exhibit downstairs, but overall, all of the artwork was interesting. A special shoutout to the staff all who were helpful and friendly. We were visiting from out of the state and they helped us to navigate some logistics.

Krannert Art Museum is a fantastic place to visit, and it's worth checking their opening hours before you go. The guides there are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, which adds to the overall experience. The museum itself is quite spacious, with numerous lounge rooms to explore. During our visit, we had a great time completing a scavenger hunt at the museum, although the real reward was immersing ourselves in the rich history it offers. My favorite sections were the fine Greek, Egyptian, and Renaissance art; they truly captured my heart! When you're there, make sure to read the captions accompanying the artworks, as they provide valuable insights into the portraits and enhance your understanding and appreciation of them. It is free to get in, however it’s worth donating to. ☺️

This museum is a hidden gem in Champaign. 🎨 From the moment you walk in, you're embraced by a calm and creative atmosphere. The exhibits are super diverse, ranging from contemporary art to pieces from distant cultures. Plus, the admission is free, making it even more accessible. Perfect for a cultural outing with friends or a relaxed solo visit.

A jewel of a little museum. It is a nice way to spend a couple of hours looking at a variety of art. I last visited this museum in the 70's and it greatly influenced my love for art today.
Lynda — Google review
DO NOT visit the museum. It was a waste of my time. There is no information anywhere to know that there are only TWO galleries open. Everything else is closed for "renovations". Again, I was not aware of this information till I had gotten there. It is not stated on the website at all. I drove from Chicago to Champaign thinking I would have access to a full museum. On top of that, I had to pay for parking which was ridiculously complicated. The meters do not take coins, you have to download a third party app just to pay. Very annoying. It felt cramped and uncomfortable. The only galleries that are open are very small. When I visited, there were probably 6 other people and that was enough to overstimulate me. On top of that, you have the security guards following you. Do not recommend going until the whole museum is open.

virtually everything a person with a brain/some taste might want to see is off limits until early next year. not worth a visit until early 2025 edit: it's almost August (i.e., summer) so now there's signs up saying most of it'll be open again... in the summer... which is right now. they were building something (drilling/hammering) during open hours while I visited, making it very difficult to contemplate the minimal art available.
M — Google review
There's no free parking here, and it costs $1.70 an hour, how greedy of the university. Edit: You also have to pay via third party, the parking meters themselves don't actually function. You don't simply put coins into a thing, you have to download an app, create an account, register your vehicle, and pay an additional fee to the third party, just to visit this museum without your car being towed. Second edit: The app you have to use to pay for the overpriced parking doesn't even accept Google Pay, or PayPal, or maybe even credit cards? Been attempting to get it to work for 20 minutes, but I guess I'm just going to leave. Very disappointing, because obviously parking should never have cost money here to begin with.

Nestled on the southwest side of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus, Memorial Stadium is a remarkable football venue that boasts a seating capacity of over 60,000. Established in 1923, this iconic stadium serves as a tribute to the brave students who lost their lives during World War I. The striking facade features engraved pillars bearing their names, making it not just a sports arena but also a poignant memorial.
Phenomenal stadium. I've been here several times throughout my four years of undergrad here at the University of Illinois. Been here for welcome events held by the Student Alumni Ambassadors along with several Fighting Illini football games during the fall seasons. Just recently visited the stadium for my graduation and I was truly amazed by how well organized and performed the entire graduation ceremony was. Memorial Stadium is one of the attractions of Champaign-Urbana that make me proud that I chose this university.

Big Ten football. Wow. This isn’t the big house or the horseshoe or the Rose Bowl or the LA Coliseum. But it has a special thing all its own. We were treated to 50 yard line seats by a client together with parking pass is only a few steps from our seats. We were treated with respect and of course, respected our opponent, which won the game today. The staff working at the venue were all friendly, courteous, and hopeful, especially when the heat forced me to sit in the first aid station for a few minutes to cool off. Thank you to everyone at Memorial Stadium for a wonderful day.
David S — Google review
The sound in the stadium was muffled and none of the vendors take cash. Credit card only. Had to walk back to my car because you can only bring in very small or clear bags. Other than that there were lots of staff in place to direct people, clean restrooms, and a nice clean stadium with ample seating.

🏟️ Memorial Stadium, University of Illinois 🏈 First off—props to the stadium crew! Memorial Stadium is impressively clean and super easy to navigate. No maze-like corridors or mysterious staircases leading to nowhere. Just good signage and a layout that doesn’t make you feel like you’re in a cornfield escape room. 🌽🧭 🍔🥤 Food and beverage vendors? Plentiful. You won’t go hungry unless you’re trying to survive on kale chips alone (which, thankfully, were nowhere in sight). Nachos, hot dogs, sodas—classic stadium fare that hits the spot when you’re juggling four kids and a questionable game-day diet. 🛡️ Security has leveled up with new metal detectors that look like they were borrowed from a sci-fi movie. Efficient and fast—no awkward pat-downs or feeling like you’re entering Area 51. 🚗 Now, parking… oof. If you don’t have a pass, prepare for a cardio session. We parked nearly a mile away, which felt more like a pilgrimage than a pre-game stroll. They do offer shuttles, but most were packed tighter than our stadium seats. Speaking of… 🪑 Seating was… intimate. And not in a romantic way. We’re average-sized guys with four kids, and even with an extra ticket for “breathing room,” we were practically sitting in each other’s laps. I’ve had more elbow space in a clown car. 🤡🚗 🎉 But let’s end on a high note—the entertainment during halftime and throughout the game was genuinely fun and engaging. Great energy, crowd involvement, and just enough flair to keep the kids entertained and the adults from checking their fantasy football scores too often. 👍 Overall? A great experience with a few logistical hiccups. Would we go again? Absolutely. But next time, we’re bringing a tape measure and a scooter. #MemorialStadiumVibes #CleanButCramped #ParkingOlympics2025 #NachosWereElite #KidsHadABlast #ElbowRoomIsAMyth

Nice stadium. No wait time in the restroom, big plus. Leaving was slow due to very narrow exits and walkways. Overall, great time. GO BUCKEYES!!

We had an amazing time at the USC vs. Illinois game this weekend, even though USC came up short. The atmosphere was incredible, and both the staff and Illini fans were outstanding—welcoming, respectful, and courteous, even with us proudly wearing USC gear. It made the experience that much more enjoyable. The only downsides were the parking situation and the long lines for food and drinks. We ended up taking an Uber from our hotel due to parking challenges, and concessions definitely could use some improvement to keep things moving faster. Overall, it was a great experience, and we’d gladly come back for another game.

Great facility to watch a game in! Everything from the amenities to the tailgating and the stadium is top notch. Makes for a great environment!

University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana's Memorial Stadium is one of the best historical college football stadiums that every Big 10 and College Football fan needs to attend a game at (attending games since the 1990's). The Illinois alumni, fans, student section, and band are doing a masterful job of creating a great collegiate environment with all the amenities (clean bathrooms, good food/beverages, etc.) It's definitely one of the Mecca's of College Football, due it historic architecture and player monuments surrounding Memorial Stadium!

The State Farm Center is a well-known venue that has hosted Fighting Illini basketball games, concerts, and theater productions for many years. Recently remodeled with modern upgrades, it offers rooms that can be rented for a more secluded experience while still enjoying fantastic views. The staff are friendly and helpful, making entry easy even during virus protocols. Purdue pulled off an incredible win in 2OT during the first game at this stadium. Despite the changes, many still refer to it as the Assembly Hall.
Illini College defeated Michigan. This football stadium is fantastic, beautiful design and the tailgating area is great for before and after game parties. Lineman Offense JC Davis is our nephew. He and his teammates played an exciting game. The visual graphics of the stadium kept the audience reved up and made the whole afternoon perfect.

The show was sweet. But we about froze outside waiting to get in. And if you read my texas roadhouse, I bet you can't guess who I seen walking down the hill towards the line. Ol Bubba. Still no coat, just shirt and overalls. Walking like he was on a mission. Later on, during the show, I looked over and there he went again, up the stairs. I was starting to wonder if he was following me. For him to be such a big dude, he was all over the place. But the show was great. I think I'll go back and watch a game next season.

We attended a wrestling event here through the University of Illinois' Fighting Illini Wrestling Team. We had such a great experience. From the security at the front and throughout the building, to the staff at the food center. The restrooms were clean too. Plenty of parking and very easy to navigate!

We were here for UICU graduation. Great place for an event. They were well organized and very efficient in getting people out easily and safely when the graduation ceremony was over.

Went to U of I graduation. The policy of no purses/bags in the Assembly Hall (because that is the building's real name) for a graduation is idiotic and an example of the mindless bureaucracy that guides most universities.

The Spurlock Museum, also known as the Clarice V. Spurlock Museum, is an ethnographic museum located at the University of Illinois. Established in 1911, it houses a vast collection of over 51,000 artifacts from various cultural heritages and geographic regions. The museum's exhibits showcase ancient Egyptian art, Mediterranean works, modern African art, East Asian artifacts, European pieces, Mesopotamian objects, and items from the Americas.
This museum is absolutely amazing! We explored all the galleries with fascinating art from all over the world, but were excited to see those from Ancient Mediterranean and the Americas. It was outstanding. The museum offers a wealth of history and culture. We enjoyed learning about Latin American art, including fascinating pieces from Bolivia (with a surprise of a sensory experience!). The Native American art displays were equally impressive, showcasing the richness and depth of their traditions. A standout feature of the museum was the interactive screens, which provided detailed insights into rare objects, such as a fragment of the letter of James from the New Testament. We also loved listening to music created with ancient versions of violins and other string instruments, which added an immersive element to our visit. Admission is free, and parking on the street is free on weekends. There are puffs and cushions in the galleries to have a moment of gentle rest. The facilities were spotless, and I greatly appreciated the availability of sanitary pads in the restrooms—a thoughtful touch. The staff were incredibly kind and friendly. We deeply enjoyed our visit and highly recommend this museum for anyone interested in history, culture, and art!

Nice and tidy museum at UIUC. There's no section on India in Asia section, which is very surprising. Maybe the Museum should get some funding to add an India specific section and that would be nice.

A really great place to visit if you are at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. They have different sections according to continent and a great collection. Place is free for anyone.

Smaller, but splendid, museum with LOTS of varying exhibits, artifacts, and traditional ethnic garments of various cultures from around the world. In addition to special exhibits, the museum houses 9 permanent exhibits, They are organized by geography and cover hundreds, if not thousands, of years of human history from North, Central, and South America and the Ancient Mediterranean. On the 2nd floor are East Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania, Europe, Africa, Ancient Mesopotamia, and Ancient Egypt.

Spent about 30 minutes here, wish I’d had more time! It’s full of unique items and history. Free to enter, although donations and encouraged. I went on a Saturday afternoon, right before closing, and it was almost completely empty and very quiet! Exhibits are (mostly) based on regions of the world. I especially appreciated the effort of transparency with where the artifacts were acquired, although I’m not sure if there’s been any pressures or requests for returning items.
Aditi N — Google review
For a decent sized city, this museum is pretty large. They have activities you can do for fun, while also teaching you about the artifacts and cultures. They have different exhibits and their statues are really cool.
Lydia Z — Google review
This was a great little museum. If it's free it's for me! My oldest son loved the mummy they had on display. They showed pictures too of what they thought the mummy looked like if he/she was still alive. Many of the items they had on display were replicas, but just as fun to look at. I wouldn't say a great place for young children. Easy to sound an hour here.
Will — Google review
Not bad at all! Only 5% of their collections (artifacts, sculptures etc) are on display due to the space crisis. What a shame! There are no entry fees, however, it’s my request to everyone to donate as much as you can so that they can keep up the good work for years to come.

The cacaphonies will caress your very bones!! The halls are breathtaking!! the director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra once whispered that the acoustics here were superior to their hometown hall! There's always local & university orchestras doing STUNNING performances (once heard a violin rocket launch). They do beautiful dances for people with Parkinson's and also occasionally have a behemoth of their instrument show up to bedazzled! Check the website!

Just saw Josh Johnson live! Seeing an outstanding performer on stage vs. on YouTube is like seeing a painting in a museum vs. watching the artist create a masterpiece right before your eyes. This holds true of this young standup comic, who is well on the way of joining comedy legends Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, Flip Wilson, and Eddie Murphy. All groundbreaking comedians in their own right, all having broken barriers for up and coming artists.

World class performances! Fantastic architecture with world class auditoriums providing comfort as well as excellent audience experience. Tickets are affordable and there isn't a bad seat in the house. Free performances are very popular and provide a great way for people to enjoy themselves at no cost. This is a local treasure! I wish more folks from the larger community would take an opportunity to experience it.

Huge space. The venue is pretty cool! There is free parking on the surrounding streets after 6pm. It's definitely a college town with lots of restaurants around that serve a variety of foods but don't have a lot of atmosphere. The Krannert theater itself is really big. Lots of levels and side balcony seating. It felt clean and bright, and very accessible. There is odd seating behind the stage. We enjoyed a good show, though it was a late start due to a security check they had everyone go through. One of the volunteers told me that they hadn't done security like that before so they had misjudged the start time. I trust they will figure that out.

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, home to the Fighting Illini, is a renowned research university with its own airport and a sprawling 160-acre arboretum. The campus, located between Urbana and Champaign, offers a delightful blend of historic architecture and public art. Visitors can explore the Main Quad's elegant landscaping, tree-lined avenues, and grand Liberal Arts and Sciences buildings.
I was in UIUC to see off my Nephew. The university campus is humongous . The college buildings are awesome , transport system within the university is great(sometimes it takes a long time), there are dedicated bike lanes and accessibility access almost all places they boast the biggest engineering library . The orientation program was good and informative, people seem efficient and I am sure teaching staff is also great There are quite a few frat houses and student quarters around the university The restaurant selection is great and the university also has multiple on campus food court, and surprisingly have a lot of good vegetarian options as well Students who really want to learn well can do wonders. Great place to study and enjoy

Fantastic place to go to if your pet is having a medical emergency. I'm not even going to bother anymore calling my veterinarian when this happens since they always make you wait several days. Staff is very polite and genuinely concerned for the animals welfare.

As a parent, it’s that time when we help our children make decisions about the next phase of their lives. For me, sending my child off to college at UIUC was one of the most emotional moments. On the first day, I couldn’t help but cry as I left her on campus, much like I did when I dropped her off at kindergarten. The feeling of letting go is never easy, but looking back, I can say with certainty that UIUC was a wonderful choice for her. From the very beginning, the campus and community have offered incredible support and opportunities. The professors and lecturers are amazing—engaging and truly invested in their students’ success. There’s always academic help available, whether it’s through tutoring, office hours, or student groups that offer additional support. I was always impressed by how approachable and willing the faculty were to help students succeed. What stands out most, though, is the sense of safety and care on campus. There’s always someone available to help, even late at night, whether you’re walking around and need assistance or have a concern. UIUC truly seems committed to the well-being of all its students. For those of you wondering about religious and cultural connections, there is a Hindu temple just 10 minutes away from campus, providing a sense of community and belonging for students who want that connection. To other parents considering sending their child to UIUC, I want to assure you—it’s a fantastic campus. Don’t worry. The support, education, and experiences your child will have are priceless. You can rest easy knowing they’re in good hands!
Vetri M — Google review
It's ok. Campus is very large and seemed like it needed a lot of work. I understand that it's an old university, but with all of the graffiti, seemed like we were walking around Dailey college in the city. Felt very unsafe. We had a tour and intro for the college for possible incoming Freshman, and we has to park on the street and pay rather than park in the parking lot (for staff only) that was right behind the place where the presentation was being held. And, the lot was practically empty. We asked about where we could eat lunch on campus, and the tour guide told us the eat at the dining hall, so we did. $14 per person later we found out that 95% of the food options were not available/closed. So we had options of veggie burgers, turkey corn dogs, and pizza that was worse than frozen pizza. They say that you experience the Freshman 15 and gain 15 pounds, but with these limited food options it seems like you won't have a problem with that. Send your kid here instead of fat camp to lose weight. Poorly run Freshman presentation and amenities. Tuition is very high even for in state students.

My Alma Mater and forever my home. The U of I was a fantastic experience overall. Met friends for a lifetime, taught by brilliant professors, and indescribable opportunities.

Let’s call it like it is: UIUC doesn’t just compete — it dominates. In engineering, computer science, agriculture, and business, it’s a national powerhouse with global reach. This is where Fortune 500 recruiters go hunting, where innovation is the baseline, not the goal. You don’t just attend Illinois — you level up there. UIUC is for the builders. The doers. The ones who don’t just dream — they design, calculate, code, and deliver. It’s home to Nobel laureates, Turing Award winners, and world-changing startups. The Grainger College of Engineering alone outpaces entire universities. The Gies College of Business? Modern, aggressive, and built for the real world. Let’s not kid ourselves: UC Davis can’t touch that. UC Davis sells itself as laid-back excellence. But in reality? It’s a fog of overhype. It talks the talk but limps through the walk. Underwhelming outcomes, lackluster academic energy, and a culture that discourages edge or initiative. You don’t get sharpened — you get smoothed out, filed down, and boxed in. Meanwhile, UIUC puts steel in your spine. You’re surrounded by peers who bring the heat, professors who challenge you to produce, not just parrot, and opportunities that actually lead somewhere. Want to intern at Tesla, Amazon, or Google? That pipeline runs right through Champaign-Urbana. The ROI? Massive. UIUC consistently ranks among the top public schools for return on investment, and grads don’t just find jobs — they’re recruited. In tech, finance, engineering, and research, the UIUC name carries real weight. UC Davis? A shrug, at best. And let’s be honest — the Midwest may not have California’s zip code, but it has grit, affordability, and focus. No fluff, no flash — just results. At UIUC, you’re not just another number crammed into a lecture hall. You’re a talent investment — and it shows. So here’s the truth: UIUC gives you tools. UC Davis gives you traffic and bureaucracy. UIUC builds leaders. UC Davis breeds compliance. Choose fire over fog. Choose Illinois…

Visited for a quiz bowl competition but almost all sidewalks were coated in ice which made it quite treacherous to walk anywhere. Seems a northern school would take more care in winter safety. Other than that it was pretty interesting with the old style architecture compared to my university.

Illini Union, located at the University of Illinois at Champagne, is a vibrant student hub offering various attractions such as art displays, dining options, shops, sports screenings, and a wide range of student activities and events. The architecture boasts rich wood paneling and historical displays throughout the building. Visitors can also find a hotel on-site along with amenities like a bowling alley in the basement.
Right at the center of campus. There's always people at the quad vibing, hanging out or just on their way to class. Best times are spring and summer when the students pull up to just soak in the sun. Frisbee is a big thing on the quad. The union also is very entertaining. There's a cafeteria in the basement for food and upstairs there's a bunch of things to do for entertainment. There's always seminars or movie nights . The quad views during the winter also very nice, very picturesque

As a Florida State University student, I can tell you that it’s a good place. But not as cool as FSU Student Union. It has a vintage vibe and pretty cool place to chill. But I doubt it would crowded when classes are going on. It was great visiting this place.

The heart of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Has a lot of amenities, even a bowling alley in the basement. I think the upper floor rooms are for private use made with reservations, but there’s even a hotel inside the building. Pretty impressive union compared to some school’s I saw.
Berkay K — Google review
Really need building, the temperature inside is just way way to hot for me to withstand. When I'm sitting inside the union reading, or whatever, I swear and become really really cautious and feel symptoms of heat exhaustion, until I'm able to step outside and get some air. Makes you just want to open a window or something it's so hot and musty. Very cool place though, I love that it's an older building. The build quality is so much better than the newer buildings.

Great Place for resting if you're homeless.. My ONLY problem is that they don't have any couches or ottomans so you can actually put your feet up and lay back. I was reading some people's reviews about all of the other amenities and honestly I am very much so impressed. I will visit those places inside of the UIUC one of these days. I am currently attending parkland college & I know I will need somewhere to study. Hopefully by then they have a better place for studying in the common area or something. BUT Overall... I would rate it a 10/10 it only has 4 stars instead of 5 because of the resting area.. most of us are moms/single moms (me included) who work and go to school so much needed rest time in between classes and before i have to get the kids is WELL NEEDED!

Foellinger Auditorium, located on the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign campus, is a stunning example of Beaux Arts Classical style. Built in 1907 by Clarence Blackall, its design features a dome reminiscent of Thomas Jefferson's Rotunda at the University of Virginia. The auditorium boasts a beautiful interior and exterior with a copper roof and cornice.
Had a lot of classes here and it's a very nice place. Seats are kind of small but manageable. On one end of the quad, kind of like a landmark place. It's right opposite the Illini Union on the main quad. I think every single graduate from this university has taken graduation pictures on the front staircase of the Foellinger Auditorium.

This is a pretty nice public library. The staff members I've had interactions with have all been absolutely wonderful to me. A few weeks ago, I lost one of my wireless earbuds inside the library. I searched high and low for a couple of hours and couldn't find it anywhere. I knew my missing earbud was inside due to the fact I could see it disconnect from my phone when I walked outside, and reconnect upon walking back inside. I came to the conclusion my missing earbud was most likely gone forever. 🥺😞 After a few weeks, I decided it's worth a shot to check back at the front desk with lost & found. My hopes were not high, however to my surprise, they returned my long lost earbud to me safe and sound. I am forever grateful to the unknown staff member who located my lost item, and the staff member who returned it to me. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. You guys / gals are all awesome and it's great to see a public entity as well ran as the Green St. Champaign Public Library.

I have never lived in a town with such a dynamic library! There are writers programs, and programs to help people who want to start businesses, and they are building expanded facilities in the basement for doing sound recordings...oh, yeah, and they have books. I've seen libraries that want to do away with books. Which seems dumb to me. They have a great collection of videos, too. My favorite part, though, is walking into the building. The lobby is an art gallery with a new installation of art every season. It never fails to make me smile when I walk in!

Every Friday night, guests can observe the real-time night sky while listening to captivating stories about constellations and planets. Located at Parkland College in Champaign, this planetarium is not just for students; it welcomes all who are eager to enjoy its academic offerings.
Who knew there is a planetarium in Champaign? I didn't. Not only that, it's the second largest in illinois after Adler in Chicago, and I checked there is a few other in Illinois. It was a bit hard to get there because it's a curvy and long road after exiting Bradley Ave. Great display of photos and objects outside of the theater. We watched a short documentary. The lady that introduced us to the show was fun and knowledgeable, I learned a lot about stars.

Nice planetarium. Second largest in illinois next to Adler in Chicago. Good, short shows. Reasonable price. Booking online doesn't help skip a wait in line. Would be nice if the seats leaned back. Overall, worth the experience. Kids ages 14 to 2 all enjoyed it.

This is an amazing hidden gem to go to with your kids in the Champaign area! If your child is into space and learning the planetarium will be right up their ally. The amazing friendly and knowledgeable staff will show you the amazing night sky's and wish you off to far away planets on the amazing domed theater screen. The movies and programs that we have been to so far been both captivating and educational for my son. They can do large party's like scouts,4H, school clubs, ect. They also have it where you can rent the place for birthday parties. You have to contact them via the parkland college website for those options.
Roger P — Google review
I visited this place fairly recently, and though the stories were good, it felt like they had been told countless times before. The show I attended was meant for younger audiences, but the display was still enjoyable. I had also visited this place a long time ago during a school field trip, and it seemed like they were still using the same old projector from back then (decades ago). The planetarium experience wasn't fully immersive due to dark or light spots caused by the aging projector. While I understand that replacing the projector can be costly, considering the location, it's probably time for an update. The photos displayed here were truly impressive! There's something special about seeing things in person rather than just in pictures. For children, this place can be incredibly educational and engaging.

Santa's Secret Star was a captivating and enjoyable show. Our very chatty 9 year old was entranced and rapt with attention throughout. Miss Tania did a wonderful job of showing us the local stars and planets before we left. We will definitely be back.

The Staerkel Planetarium is a hidden gem in the Champaign area. The Good: The planetarium theater itself was beautiful. Located on the Parkland College campus, the planetarium's state-of-the-art digital projection system, operated by the (nicest) planetarium director, Dave Leake, proved to be breathtaking. His storytelling held my son's attention the entire time - and I'm sure seeing Santa up in the sky didn't hurt either! The Bad: At the time of our visit, campus construction blocked the front entrance of the planetarium, making it a bit difficult to navigate our way inside. Overall: We loved the kid-friendly show at the William M. Staerkel Planetarium, and would certainly return for another show!

Although I have not personally been there, my acquaintance Luke describes it as intriguing. However, another friend expresses concern about the library being situated beneath the field. An excellent museum with very high quality displays produced by volunteers. Walking through the museum and looking at the displays you would think the entire place was laid out, designed and produced by professional museum designers. Well worth a visit. Especially if you live in Champaign County and haven't ever been there.

Nothing expansive or fancy here ... just a couple of rooms of exhibits. But what's there is very well-presented, and gives a nice overview of the history of the county. One room is dedicated to how WWII affected Champaign County, especially at the (now-defunct) Chanute Air Base in Rantoul. That was very interesting. The people that work/volunteer there are friendly and clearly knowledgeable. You could see it for free, but it's more than worth the $3 suggested donation. A very pleasant way to pass an hour.

Beckman Institute, located at the far end of the north campus, is a significant research building with a rich history. It was made possible by a generous donation from alumnus Arnold O. One time I went in here and there was no one there, not a soul. As I wandered the vast halls and corridors I noticed a deep dark emptiness in one of the rooms. Daring to venture further I found that it emanated from within the walls and was the reason for the remodeling of several rooms. Little did they know hiding it won’t stop the spread

Noyes Laboratory is a historical building with great labs and lecture halls, making it an ideal place for advanced chemistry classes. However, some students have complained about the lack of air conditioning, especially in the summer when it can get uncomfortably hot. The theater-style lecture hall on the first floor can be particularly warm, especially for those seated in the top rows. Additionally, some students have found the auditorium to be less than ideal for exams due to its concave seating arrangement.
My students are talking their exam in the auditorium, not the best place for an exam since the seats are placed in a concave shape, even if there is an empty row in between two seats they are very close to each other

This facility is pretty historical, since it is is over 100 years old, but its unkept and drab interior and poor maintenance makes this place a miserable dungeon rather than a place to learn. UPDATE: The front classrooms are being renovated. So hopefully it will impress. - Chemistry Library - Provides a wealth of information and is a good study environment. - The backside of the facility is being renovated, so that means there are newer bathrooms and classrooms there. - Accessable - After hours, students that are in the major can use empty classrooms to study and do work. That's all for pros CONS: - Horrifyingly overdue for Renovation - Although I previously mentioned in the pros section about the renovations, there is still a lot to this building that hasn't been renovated. This category spawns many more cons that I will mention below. I. Poor climate control. The main hallway when you enter from the quad side has no air conditioning, and not all of the ACUs equipped in the classrooms work, so you will bake during your discussion sections, unless you're lucky, and this leads me to the next point. II. The lone classroom in the basement: It's an old building, so some aspects of the building design may seem odd, but there are some terrible gripes with this building. First, the basement is plain creepy, especially the corridor that's opposite to the elevator. Second, there is a classroom there; it seems benign enough, until you realize that there is an opening to the steam tunnel network around the corner, this spells hell, and it will feel like that during the winter, especially when you have the radiators and the steam tunnels radiating heat, so you would go from the brutal cold to the searing hot in just seconds. III. Unsightliness: If I would rate this place for ambience or cleanliness, I would give it a negative infinity out of ten. This place, EXCEPT for the renovated part, is like vomit for the eyes, especially when you see the old bathrooms, and I wouldn’t suggest taking a dump there; use the newer bathrooms instead. The walls of the classrooms are peeling, and quite some chairs in the classrooms are broken. It’s not like Altgeld hall, which I can give credit for its unique old style design in the foyer. The notorious Chemistry Annex just south of it was an ugly mess before it got entirely renovated. - THE LECTURE HALL: Noyes 100 is where many of the intro classes like CHEM 102, 104, 202, and other classes are held. It may look nice when you enter, but you will experience the agony when you sit in the middle rows, especially if you have a tall stature. Yes, this is the more notorious lecture hall, next to Altgeld 314, that students complain about. This place may just be the torture chamber for someone that is claustrophobic. This place can fit up to 300 people, and imagine sitting in the middle between two people, while constantly being squished by the knee from the chair back in the row in front. Oh, and if you drop something in that ‘pit of doom’ behind the chair in front of you, good luck. Noyes lab is a barely adequate building for classes to be held and studying. The Chemistry Library’s ambience makes it nicer to study compared to the rest of the building and the ease of use of the building makes it a decent spot for some studying during off-hours, but many design and ageing problems of the building makes it quite unwelcoming, but there are renovation processes going on in the back of the building, so there may be hints of the entire building being renovated.
Dawei Q — Google review
What a terrible building. The AC never seems to work, the lecture hall was obviously built for people only under 5' because there is absolutely no legroom. The only redeeming quality is the Chem Library, which is quite pleasant but its weird hours make it inaccessible. Hard pass on Noyes Lab
Logan E — Google review
I had the majority of my classes and labs here and at the Chemistry Annex. I didn't seem to have any problems with the lecture halls or labs like some reviewers have had. If you're here to learn, the facilities are adequate.

Altgeld Hall, completed in 1897 and expanded several times thereafter, is a historic building at the University of Illinois. It was initially home to a museum and the university library before serving as the law building and later as the math building and library. Named after Governor John P. Altgeld, it's renowned for its Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. While some mention that classrooms may need maintenance, others praise its overall appeal and historical significance on campus.

Great place to being the kids. They are always happy to come to thus park. It's also nice that they have a fence up around the children's playground that way it makes it easier to keep track of your children. I most certainly recommend this park to everyone.

This park is absolutely beautiful and full of charm! You can really feel its history — it’s one of those older parks that’s been well cared for over the years. It’s always clean, peaceful, and feels very safe, whether you’re walking alone or bringing the family. There’s plenty of parking all around the park, which makes visiting super convenient. 5$ to get in. Grandkids loved it, a lot of the areas are non operating especially in the vet room, but the concept and dress up was still appreciated. Interesting old building . Though it's geared towards 10 and under my older grandchildren found things to do . The outside section was closed due to weather. Many secret spaces to entertain the kids. We spent about 2 hour here.

Lots of activities for the kids. A great indoor option during the winter, but the outdoor activities look fun too! A great place to have in the downtown area. Lots of activities for kids. A fabulous outdoor space with Dino dig, bubbles, and butterfly garden. A water table, a Lego area, and an indoor slide are just a few of the indoor features. This place is perfect for any day but especially for hot summer days and cold winter days when you need a place to take the kids to burn off energy. A membership for a year is the best value but if only going for a day it is only $5 per person.

For being in such a small place, it’s pretty good. They have the iconic water table and wind tunnels for the kids to play with. We spent only about 1.5-2 hours here before we continued on our vacation to Iowa. It was also free for military, so big plus!!

Love this little children’s museum. Expect to spend 1-3 hours here, depending on age of your kids. Perfect for 1-6 year olds. Older siblings will have fun for awhile, but probably not a destination for them to go without younger siblings. Exhibits my son enjoys the most are the water table, magnet tiles, indoor playground area, and watching the turtles swim around.
Callie W — Google review
The museum itself was nice. The kids liked the outdoor area and spent a lot of time at the water table and the coloring on the walls. Halfway through our visit they opened the gates and released all the camp kids with no supervision. They ran, pushed, grabbed and didn’t share and blocked my children from entering the boat or the space area. We ended up leaving earlier than planned and less than happy.

This mall is one word: strange. No name-brand stores. All small businesses, most of which cater to an older demographic of buyers. Totally fine, but I expect name-brand stores inside a building known as a shopping mall. It’s extremely outdated and small as well. It just feels old. Not sure why it still exists. Lots of parking but it’s sketchy.

We attended graduation here today on an 88° day. I would expect the gym to be cooler than the air outside, but it was not. No air conditioning and extremely hot, especially for a large gathering. It's alright. It's been a long time since I've been there. I had 3 children at the time and now i have 9. It's kind of relaxing and gloomy at the same time. The kids enjoyed it tho.

This park is not very clean. I took my children here last summer. They found used Condoms and trash everywhere. The slide smelled like urine. And there was dog feces everywhere. I think the City of Champaign need to pay attention more to this park. I did drive by and see they are building new things over there hopefully they can clean the park up as well.

Neil St. Blues is a downtown gem known for its mouthwatering southern comfort food and soulful menu that seems to have a touch of Louisiana magic. The restaurant's upbeat atmosphere and intimate patio make it the perfect spot to enjoy delicious dishes, with the option to order multiple items for one meal. Additionally, Neil St. Blues hosts live music events, including drag shows, tribute concerts, and soul, reggae, Motown, and blues performances.
Met with some great folks down here at Neil St Blues 🎷🎹🎸. Pretty big place. Parking was nice. I side is pretty big and lively. We went during the day but by night this place is pretty neat. With live jazz 🎼 good drinks 🍹 and the food is amazing 🧆🍲🍴 really good soul food. Staging was friendly and quick. Really enjoyed myself here. Check this place out when in town

Solid cajan food. We had a shrimp Po'boy and a gator Po'boy which were great. The sides were wonderful also. The fried okra and fried cabbage were awesome too! Definitely stop in if you need a cajan fix!

10/10 recommend! I went during lunch and the service was great. We were seated right away and our server was great. My favorite food items was the gumbo hands down! I will be back for more. I ordered the chicken, waffles, and collard greens. The greens were great and not too salty. The chicken was seasoned to perfection, but I like my chicken wings a little burnt. Make sure to ask for your wings well done if you prefer that too. I got the banana pudding to go. It was very good but had too many bananas in the bottom for me. If you like that you will love it. We had no trouble finding parking and the food did not take long to cook. I would love to come when there is music and a more vibrant crowd. The cost was appropriate for the food we got and current prices.

I went to Neil Street Blues, Sunday Buffet and the options were limitless. I’m detoxing from meat at the moment yet they had turkey sausage, ham, fish, chicken wings and much more. The DJ was lit! I enjoyed the vibes. Service was very fast and extremely kind. I didn’t need for anything!

Neil St Blues is my guilty pleasure. The food is always so delicious. I've had the sweet corn and crab bisque, the BBQ rib slab, the mac and cheese, fried cabbage, and fried chicken wings. Everything is delicious and seasoned to perfection. I'm originally from New Orleans and love the food. Neil St Blues tastes like home.

I set up a Fathers Day reservation for 5 of us. We live 45 minutes away. Making a reservation was easy online. When we arrived this morning, there was plenty of street parking and a free on the weekend parking garage right around the corner. We walked up a few minutes early, and there was a small line waiting. They opened the door right on time, he greeted us with a huge welcoming smile, told all the fathers," Happy Father's Day!" He also said how everyone looked so nice. We walked in, and the host immediately got to work checking people in with a smile. They had their reservations listed, and we got right in! We were escorted into their dining area where there was a dj playing music, clean area, and clean tables! We were the second table to be sat. The servers came one by one to each table, got our drink orders, came back with them and plates to insure an easy flow to the buffet. THE BUFFET WAS AMAZING!! Sanitizer, gloves, clean, fragrant, aesthetically appealing food, every item I had was full of flavor!! The whole team worked together perfectly to ensure an amazing experience from the door greet, the host, to the server, the buss crew!! We will for sure be back!! It was worth every penny!!

If you're looking for good vibes, great people, and even better food this is the place to be! From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed like family. The owner is always in a happy mood, and you can just feel her passion in every detail from the food to the atmosphere. She doesn’t just want to serve food, she wants to create an experience. Whether you're stopping by for the Saturday buffet, catching one of the late-night themed Friday events, or just grabbing a plate to-go, there are so many ways to enjoy Neil street. Food is top tier, Real-deal soul food! Everyone from the cooks in the back to the servers up front makes sure you feel welcomed and taken care of.

Vegan friendly! As a child I visited New Orleans and fell in love with jambalaya--a dish I had to give up when I became vegan. What a thrill to eat the vegan jambalaya at Neil St. Blues! It is so flavorful: layered with aromatic spices and a rich, hearty broth. They have a few other vegan items on the menu, which is wonderfully thoughtful of them, but when I go I always get this gorgeous jambalaya. Definitely recommend!

Restaurant
Prairie Fruits Farm and Creamery, located just outside Champaign, is the first farmstead cheesemaking facility in Illinois. Visitors can meet the Nubian goats, pick fruit during the summer season, and observe cheese production through a viewing window at the dairy. The farm offers a variety of products including cheeses, jams, gelato flavors made with goat milk, and dairy-free sorbetto using local fruits.
Nice little getaway in town! We loved petting the baby goats. They also have some amazing options for locally made artisan goods.

I love this farm. The goats and employees are so friendly. They take really good care of their animals. Their products are really high quality and their cheese delicious. I definitely recommend this place.

This can easily be considered a "hidden gem" due to its location. With a farmhouse, barns, gardens, fields, and goats, this embodies the true "farm to table atmosphere." The restaurant and it's staff are quality as is their offerings. Casey greeted us with a positive and uplifting personality and her knowledge of the menu made our choice simple. The chicken sandwich was the best I've ever had! The bun was light and fluffy unlike anything I've ever experienced. It was delicately topped with an Aioli, Tomato Jam, and Thick Cut Bacon which made for the ultimate surprise in our eyes. Tender and Juicy! I'd like to thank Connor in the kitchen for the suggestion to give this place a try! You were right! 10/10 would recommend and will be back again!

Such a cute farm, amazing little farm stand with a variety of both local and specialty foods. I've been multiple times for various events such as goat yoga, an artist's market, and a holiday photo session with goats dressed up as elves. I enjoy going as everyone that works and volunteers there is so kind and knowledgeable. They have goat petting and occasionally goat milking opportunities as well! Parking is off-road and on busy days ends up just off the highway. Parking lot is gravel but walking from lot to farm requires going over grass. The area near the barn, pavillion, and restaurant is gravel.

My partner and I love prairie fruits farm and have been coming here for years! We are so excited to see the new owners expanding this amazing farm to include a restaurant! Yesterday we went for the first time and tried their sandwiches and salads. The food was delicious! We got the gyro flat bread, chicken sandwich and farm salad along with glasses of sparkling rose. Everything was great! Very complex flavor. Lots of lovely details like edible flowers and very fresh! The prices per serving are on the higher end but this is for good reasons! using local ingredients is expensive! Also, they have a no tipping policy and just pay their workers a livable wage. So know that the money is well worth it! Don’t forget to pet some goats on your way out!

Greatly enjoyed our visit to Prairie Fruits Farm. Charcuterie and Cheese Board was very good, especially the cheeses. We will probably take just the cheese board next time. The Pork Chop was very good, with wonderful maple glaze. The mushroom risotto was okay. Could have used a stronger mushroom flavor. We ended up with goat milk gelato which was excellent.

If you haven’t taken the time to drop by this delightful farm, give yourself permission to do so right away. Although my arrival was impromptu, my timing was rewarded with an exceptional wine tasting. The entire team, especially Lisa, she immediately made me feel like a neighbor. Check out their web site for upcoming events. Of course it’s so easy to make friends with all the adorable goats. Make time for a walk about along the trails on this gorgeous property. Come prepared to taste and take home an amazing variety of cheeses that will please your every desire and become a staple on your shopping list.

One of my favorite buildings on campus! (Partly because of my major haha!) The computer labs here are great places to study and get our work done at. I also love that there are often great tech events being held here that students can attend freely! :)

Its a pretty mid building, thats confusingly shaped, and difficult to find office spaces of Professors. The new renovations in the basement for study spaces are honestly nice, but they should've designed them with charging outlets on each desk. The lecture room 1301 is extremely comfy, and is sleep inducing during class. The elevators always break down, but overall, it's a decent building. EDIT- they have charging outlets below, nvmd -bumping up a star
Suyash N — Google review
This is my second home :) The Academic Office people are the most helpful staff I've ever met in any building, in any department. If they don't know the answer to your question, they always have a resource for you. They simply will not just drop the ball and say, "you're out of luck." Caveat: you have to be a CS student. There are simply too many people trying to get into CS for them to help during rush periods. The professors' offices on the 2nd-4th floors usually follow the rule of "knock if the door is open, leave if the door is clicked shut." They're busy people. The basement, however, is my favorite place. All the CS 125, 225, 233 labs are there, and I like the labs even though they're still running Scientific Linux 6. The best part about the basement is that there's always a TA to be nerd-sniped, even at 3am. I love nerd-sniping TAs ;) Ask any of them a question, and their enthusiasm is unparalleled. The cafe is great, too. The people who work at the cafe usually try to learn our names, and they're always friendly. The only thing this building lacks is a locker room. I'd like a locker and shower access, and this would be my primary residence.

The UIUC library is outstanding. It offers technology (and help with how to use it) and has every book you could ever want or need. I'm a graduate student and use the library religiously. Also, the librarians are so thoughtful and are extremely kind even when I am checking out about twenty books at one time.

I am routinely disappointed by the lack of professionalism on behalf of the university administration's decision making, regarding the ongoing construction. It is distracting. Considering the extreme high tuition that is being charged for this university I would expect the facilities people to have this work done outside of normal business hours. This is not a library, it is a construction site. Like the rest of the university campus, it would be beautiful were it not, in reality, consumed by diesel fumes and backup beepers of construction equipment.

The absolutely GOAT of UIUC libraries. It’s never too crowded and you are far enough away from both the business school and engineering quads that you do not have deal with the irritating behavior of students from either (LAS & ACES students unite). The light from the huge windows always made for great study sessions and when it snows the views are even more magical.

This place is great. If you have a three hour final coming up or just want to sit back and jam out to some Cage The Elephant, the Funk (ACES) library is where you can get your funk on. There are a lot of books and windows, and the staff is very nice. Clean bathrooms and good water fountains with the extended spout to fill a water bottle. You can’t eat here but I would occasionally smuggle a Nature Valley or Kirkland Nut Bar and accidentally get a few crumbs on the solo tables that have walls to hide your face which double as a quite and focused study spot.

Tyler was the Gentleman who helped me out today. Not to mention that the phone rang non stop and he multitaske like no one I've ever seeen before. I'd recommend going here for all your Suits needs . Thanks for all your help Tyler. Sincerely, Angela
Angela H — Google review
The older gentleman that helped me was very kind and helpful, and I ended up purchasing a suit from the store. However, when I went home later and looked up the suit I had bought on Google, I saw that I had overpaid by about $300 the average market rate for the same exact suit. Of course, this is partially my fault for not doing my research beforehand, but I would just advise anyone that this store likely will not be a cheap option. I'm okay with paying more to support local business, but I think paying essentially double the market price is a bit much. Further, when I received the suit, the hem on the pants was a bit lower than I would have liked. Again, I would advise anyone just to be sure that they draw the hem line at a length you like before it's tailored.
Keion R — Google review
I'd highly recommend. The first suit I got there I came in at 4pm and told Gordon I needed it by 7:30am the next day if possible. He did better than that. I purchased the suit, he had it tailored, and personally delivered it to my office the same evening!
Jeff C — Google review
I came in at 3 pm looking for a suit for 2 pm the next day. I didn't realize there were no "rack ready" suites. Gordon was awesome. It is so worth it to go here. All suits are custom fitted and look like a million bucks. Staff are friendly and kind and prices are comparable to anywhere else. Forget Macy's off the rack go see Gordon and crew they will get you taken care of!
Lucas — Google review
I did like this place and always want to support local business but they don't really know what they are doing. I went in to buy a wool suit and the salesman said they only sell worsted wool suits. Well he must have grabbed the only synthetic suit off the rack for me because that's what I got. I tried to contact them about it with no response. Long story short, I paid 500 bucks for a synthetic suit and specifically wanted wool. I was in a hurry and had the suit tailored before I realized it so I couldn't return it. It was partially my fault but if you go to their website (doesn't exist now) they say they sell all wool suits. Not the case, I can't see this place last very long.

They did not provide the suit I purchased to me by the date I needed it, so I had to buy another suit at the last minute from elsewhere. Then they refused to refund me for the suit that I never received from them. Based on my experience, I would rate them as a scam.

Vriner's Confectionery, established in 1898 by Greek immigrant Peter George Vriner, was initially a cigar store and confectionary shop. This family-operated establishment became a renowned symbol of Greek-American culture for nearly a century. It gained national fame for its English toffee, which is believed to have influenced the formula for the Heath Bar. Additionally, it was known for its fountain sodas, reportedly favored by Eleanor Roosevelt, and candy canes enjoyed by John F.
The building originally opened as a clothing store in 1890, but Vriner's Confectionery opened eight years later. The candy store promised Greek Immigrants employment, which led many to move to the area. Many patrons of a vaudeville theater and train station, which once stood nearby, frequented the business.

Its towering presence often serves as a backdrop for nationally-televised games featuring the Illini, adding to its allure. The sight of Altgeld Hall with its impressive tower overlooking Alma Mater is truly captivating and adds to the beauty of the campus.
