The World Museum of Mining in Butte, founded in 1963, is a tribute to the town's mining legacy. It offers a recreated 1890s mining town experience and showcases various exhibits on the tools and history of mining. Visitors can take guided tours into the Orphan Girl Mine, participate in educational programs, summer camps for kids, and engaging field trips.
This is a neat museum to see. Be there before 2pm to catch the last tours underground. There is plenty to see on the 20 something acres above though. Good place to kill a couple of hours strolling around and exploring unguided too. It's at the back of the Montana tech school so keep on going if you think you're lost. Check it out, lots of neat stuff to see.

Had a great time here. If you stop here I would recommend the tour as a must do activity. The tour is about an hour and half and is great! Our tour guide Tim could have convinced me he actually was a miner with the detailed information he was providing. You will see the above ground support equipment and then walk into a ‘new’ museum tunnel to an original mine area. Have good shoes and you will be wearing a hard hat with light, and eye protection. There was only one slight low ceiling height area I noticed but still over 6’. The mine walk was all on packed ground - sloped but stable. The flat areas had water and some mud like areas but I was able to come out clean. Had a jacket but did not use was very comfortable - high 90’s outside - 60’s in mine , was great. Outside of the mine there are numerous exhibits to take in. Large replica mining town can be explored- I felt like I was on a movie set. If taking the tour I would plan on a 3 hour stay. Large gift shop as well. Plenty of parking. We didn’t purchase tour tickets in advance but I would recommend it as we were lucky to make the last tour of the day.
Paul P — Google review
Nicely done d museum with inside exhibits of minerals taken locally and outside exhibits of the mines workings. A good reapers ration of what was underneath the ground. Get tickets ahead for the mine tour. We missed out because it was full and we had a timeline. Hour and a half tour. Comprehensive. Worth a stop
Alexandra M — Google review
The mining museum was a highlight to our weekend in Butte. I highly recommend the underground mine tour! Our tour guide, Ken was very knowledgeable and hilarious. He made the mining history come to life. Going underground was a whole new experience. It was the best time.
Malia J — Google review
The buildings in the above-ground village have extremely interesting displays with rare objects from the time periods. Ken was our guide for the pump house and the underground mine and his knowledge was paralleled with his sense of humor, making the experience a real treat. Mining is in his blood - his great grandfather worked in these mines! Thank you, World Museum of Mining for a truly unique and memorable experience.
Mary R — Google review
I flew my family across the country for the Copper Kings 100 mile ultra marathon here in Butte. The underground tour was a great gateway to understanding Butte’s history and to see what lies below the surface of this fascinating area. Ken, our guide, kept everyone engaged - including my 7 and 11 year old. The ground was just a little muddy and the walk had frequent stops. No one had any trouble keeping up. Our guide offered to take pictures of our group at several cool spots and the pictures came out so well. We could see our breath in the mine so take a sweatshirt. The bathrooms were clean and the ride to and from the museum offered great views. Yes, you should do this tour.
Wendy H — Google review
We had a wonderful experience, we had a fantastic guide (Ken) who was very knowledgeable, friendly and fun. The kids enjoyed going underground to get a better understanding of what mining is all about out . We enjoyed walking around after our tour to see the different buildings - fun to learn that many are real structures relocated here to Butte.
Catie P — Google review
From San Antonio, Texas visiting out in Butte for my son birthday. He really wanted to go there so he can go into the mine itself. Overall was an amazing trip. Price wise was worth it. I have paid more money for tours that was nothing compared to theirs. Learned a lot about the town and its history with mining in general. Our tour guide was awesome. I’ll share photos of him. His rock jokes kind of like dad jokes but made it a funny tour to remember lol definitely recommend checking it out especially the part of the tour where they take you down the mine. Go down about 100 ft in and just awesome. Never in my life did I think I go into a mine or even that far deep into the earth itself just an experience I recommend anyone to try out. Thank you to the staff for an amazing time and to our tour guide who made a memory we won’t forget

The William A. Clark "Copper King" Mansion is a grand Victorian mansion built in 1884, offering ornate and antique-filled rooms for visitors to enjoy. The mansion was constructed for W.A. Clark, a prominent figure in Montana's mining history, and features opulent details such as Tiffany stained glass, rare imported woodwork, and hand-painted frescos created by French artisans.
I was blown away by this opulent historic Mansion experience! Family owned since 1953, and they treated us like royalty. Your eyes will not believe how beautiful and perfectly decorated this masterpiece is. The tour is great but staying overnight should be the goal.

Excellent guide who was extremely knowledgeable. The tour was over an hour, so great value. We saw tons of amazing rooms - highly recommended😃

Staying at the Copper King Mansion was such a wonderful experience! The service was fabulous, and the hosts very kind and accommodating. We got to visit with the owner at breakfast, and her daughter in law cooked a delicious breakfast, gluten free! It was such a treat to stay in a piece of Butte’s history. It’s a bit unreal, staying in the beautifully decorated rooms, full of treasures from the past. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. I definitely plan to stay here again!
Melanie R — Google review
Well this is difficult to know where to start. Erin and Sai were so very gracious and wonderful. We had so many great conversations about the history of the mansion and area. My cousin and I could have talked for hours learning so much about their history. The mansion is beautiful and walking distance to other registered historical sights. Sai’s breakfast was the best on our travels. Highly recommend this experience!!

My partner and I had a wonderful time at the Mansion. The tour was brilliant, they were incredibly hospitable and we have never stayed anywhere like it. What a slice of history! Would highly recommend.

Zachary led our group on a very informative tour with relevant local and regional historical context. The house itself is lovely, and the collections it contains are eclectic and fun to admire.

We stayed in the big three room master suite! That was William Clark’s bedroom for forty years. You can feel the history in that house. I’m nearly retired and keep weird sleep hours. Imagine my surprise when I came back in the house after a walk at 1:30am and the owner was up and invited me into to kitchen for coffee. We gabbed about history and running the mansion for 3.5 hours! We’ll definitely be back.

The Mai Wah Society Inc, located in Butte, Montana, is a small museum housed in the historic Wah Chong Tai Mercantile building. The museum showcases the history and experiences of Butte's Chinese community from the late 19th century. It offers artifact collections and displays depicting life during that time period, including cabinets and newspapers dating back to 1897.
A must see when it reopens in the spring…opened briefly for Chinese new year…great preservation of Chinese history and all done by non Asian community
Laurence H — Google review
Incredible history experience! They have done amazing restoration so far, but much of it is beautifully raw upstairs, still. Downstairs they have it set up exactly as it was when open for business. All of the artifacts, packages of herbs and so many items, are original artifacts from this mercantile. When they shut down, they closed the doors with everything intact, so its all available to view. There are beautiful banners with stories and pix about the family, the history and how more history was unearthed. We'll worth visiting if you enjoy history.
Shelley P — Google review
Was visiting for a research project and to help translate some artifacts. I was impressed with how knowledgeable the people running the museum were about the artifacts and how they went to great lengths to ensure the history of the Chinese community in Butte is preserved.
Rex W — Google review
I was a little skeptical of this place to start, not going to lie. A museum to a ethic class that was more or less gotten rid of in a small town in Montana? Well that history is exactly why this place is so cool. It’s a small museum that you both get to witness the history but also this fascinating building. If you are in Butte make sure you stop by!
Anshuman B — Google review
As someone who’s fascinated with all aspects of Western history, I was excited to visit this little museum. The history of early Chinese immigrants is an elusive piece of the American puzzle. Many Chinese residents were driven out by financial hardships and rampant prejudice in the 1800’s and much of their story was lost. I was delighted to find a piece of it lovingly preserved at the Mai Wah. In addition to exhibits on the experiences of coming to the US from Imperial China, the museum has a replica of the original grocery store, and an exhibit on some of Butte’s first Chinese families. The building itself, with most of the original structure and layout intact, feels like being transported back in time. Also, the staff (both human and feline) was very friendly and helpful!

Call in advance to book and pay when you get there ($20/person) The tour was pretty cool - guide was knowledgeable and friendly. There was lots to look at. Our guide locked us in a jail cell - had a blast, 10/10
Hayley — Google review
A surprisingly great experience withuch more history than I thought would exist in this little town. The tour is definitely worth the cost and the highlights were the jail cell with it's famous occupant (sorry no spoilers from me) and the old school speakeasy.

A very interesting and informative tour. This was a great way to learn about the history of Butte. Truly enjoyed the walking tour. Recommend it if you are visiting.
Donna E — Google review
When we went to pay I thought is would regret it. $20/person!! But, I think it was worth it by the end. The tour took us about 2 hours. We had an infant and a service dog, and bother were fine. There are very steep stairs, and of course a lot of walking. So this is definitely not wheelchair or stroller accessible. The properties they show you around town are close and easy to walk to. We were very very entertained. I will say I was very very ready for it to be over by the end because I was so cold. I would reccomend heavy winter wear of you are going during the cold seasons. We went January 2022. You are outside and in buildings with no heating the whole time. I am glad we had our baby in lots of layers. The history of butte was surprising and entertaining. I wish we could have stayed in the city an extra day.

Bob was a great guide. Interesting history, fun stories. Enjoyed it - well worth the $20.

Step back in time and take this tour. Very informative tour of Buttes underground: a speakeasy, barber shop, and the Jail. Our tour guide did an excellent job. It is underground, so a bit cooler and you may need a sweater depending on when you go.

The Mineral Museum in Butte, Montana is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and mineral lovers alike. The museum offers a fascinating display of spectacular minerals from Montana and around the world, including a fluorescent mineral exhibit and an earthquake hazards display with a live seismograph. Visitors can explore the museum's well-curated layout, which provides detailed information without overwhelming the experience. The exhibits focus on Montana's geology while also showcasing its connections to neighboring areas.
Old-timey geological museum. Impressive collections, understated display, neat historic visit. Worth a visit if you like geology or just a collegiate atmosphere.
Jack W — Google review
I loved looking at all the cool rocks here and that it is FREE to enter! It would have been better if access to it was better. I am disabled and there was an elevator but I had to squeeze by a high stairway to enter the door and it scared the crap out of me (I'm afraid of heights) AND I do not believe even the smallest wheelchair would be able to get in there, either. I understand it's an old building, but can they move the entrance door?
Tonia H — Google review
This is a free admission museum. It is fantastic! So full of facts regarding minerals, not just from Montana, but from the world. The location of this museum is wonderful. Be sure to ask questions! Be sure to go upstairs in the Mineral Museum. Of course, there is a huge gold nugget to see!!
RL K — Google review
Great and diverse samples. Even if you're not a mineral or rock lover it's worth a stop to look everything over and see some of Montana Tech's beautiful campus.
Jennifer S — Google review
What a fantastic little museum, full of remarkable collections. Not to be missed by any hobbyist geologists or aspiring rock hounds. Don't miss the UV light display. Free entry, and perfect for an hour or two after visiting the Mining Museum nearby.
Michael P — Google review
This FREE museum is a great place to stop if you're traveling far with kids. The campus it's located on is beautiful, really nice place to get out and stretch. The kids really enjoyed the florescent room. It is perfect, just enough to be interesting but not too much to be over stimulating. So glad we stopped here!
Corrie P — Google review
More than just a bunch of interesting rocks. There was signage telling you what each mineral is used for, and some excellent specimens. Plan for 1-2 hours, good for kids. Some stairs to some exhibits. And free!

Unreliable hours advertised. Website says they're open until 5p Saturdays (today). Posting from in front of the door, where a sign advertises opening hours of 10a-4p today. It is 1:20p, doors locked, phone number will not connect when dialed.

The museum was a nice stop while in Butte. There is no charge for entry(I put five bucks in the jar). It's a small museum with some old vehicles and highway related items like road signs and old license plates. The staff was very nice to us so we enjoyed the visit. The best part was the gentleman there said we could have an item from a table of things left over by people who donated things to the museum. I got an Army Marching Band CD. I like marching band music.

What an absolutely beautiful historic theatre! We had the pleasure of putting on a comedy show for Big Star Comedy/Small Town Show at the Mother Lode. The staff and Mgt were great to work with. The sound and lighting were impeccable. The red velvet throughout: perfect!

Had a great night at the Mother Load with Tophouse! Every seat had a great view, although some were a little tight. AC would dramatically improve the experience as it was quite warm in the balcony. This place is definitely on the up and up though. All of the staff was super friendly and all areas and bathrooms were very clean.
Mary E — Google review
The Silhouettes performance was fantastic! This historic theatre has so much charm! The only disappointment was when theatre staff moved our seats from the balcony seating we had selected. They closed the balcony and gave everyone who bought balacony tickets a "free upgrade" to floor seating. It ended up spreading out the large group of 11 people that we were with in the balacony. I've never seen a theatre do this before and it was highly disappointing. We chose the elevated seating for a reason and didnt want their "upgrade."

The Granite Mountain Speculator Mine Memorial is a serene outdoor plaza that serves as a tribute to the tragic events of June 8, 1917, when a fire in the mine claimed the lives of at least 168 miners. The memorial not only honors those lost in this devastating accident but also pays homage to all miners who faced perilous working conditions throughout Butte's history. Visitors can take in breathtaking panoramic views of Butte and its surrounding mountains from the memorial site.
This memorial was absolutely moving and really makes you think about what the miners who perished there went through in their final hours. They have both story boards you can read and buttons you can push to hear about it in audio. The view from the hilltop it is absolutely amazing as well. I highly recommend visiting here.

Pretty neat place. Lots of history. It makes you feel so bad for the families that lost their loved ones. The coolest part is there's a place where you can go and push the buttons and hear the stories from people that portray the ones who died.

Very interesting, and well done. It was an interesting fact to find out that Butte had electricity a year before New York did.

Very cool old mansion. The layout has some similar features to the father's mansion up the hill. Hard to imagine the materials for these buildings being brought in on horse-and-buggy in the 1800s. The John Levi mud flood tartaria people would be going nuts in Butte!

Really lovely little piece of Butte history. We stumbled upon it during our stop in town on a cross-country road trip. Amazing classic Drive-In Theatre under the big Montana sky! They are playing the newest movies, tickets and concession are affordable with well marked, front elevated car stalls. They are doing fantastic work to make it a great evening & experience.

I can’t say enough about how fantastic this place is. We are here from the west side Florida where there aren’t any drive in theaters. I was so excited to experience this with my family. We had an absolute blast. Saw Thunderbolts it is a great movie. Going back this weekend to see The Accountant 2. The grounds are well kept super clean and in a great location . The sunset there was beautiful. Definitely a 10/10. And we will go see all of the new movies there. A great place to unlock core childhood memories and make new ones with mine family.

We had a fairly good experience. Two people, large popcorn and two drinks for $20. They do have first run movies, we saw Top Gun: Maverick on opening weekend.

Awesome time! It was raining but had newest movie and ultra cheap prices. Plus beautiful views while waiting. One hint...early bird gets the worm!
Tiffany A — Google review
Paid over $100 and was harassed by employees. Literally sitting there watching the previews with my kids when some random dude on a scooter shows up "Oh you're getting a bunch of complaints, you need to be quiet.."...when there was literally NO ONE near me, like a white car, that's it, and I guarantee the people in the white car didn't care...and it's 5 MINUTES into the previews... The Silver Bow drive-in USED to be one of the best experiences out there, but not anymore as it has completely changed. "Cash-only" yet they don't post that on their website or anything. They no longer provide actual audio to their movies. Do they tell you this in advance? No they don't. Then on top of it you get harassed by some random dude on a scooter. I have no absolutely no clue why they think they're so "privileged"...it makes ZERO sense...you USED to provide a great experience, now you pay $100 to get harassed in a thunder storm with no audio by some kid on a scooter...

The Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church in Butte, Montana offers a spiritual and visually stunning experience. The church is adorned with hand-painted frescoes depicting Scripture, majestic stained glass windows, and a hand-carved Iconostasis Screen from Belgrade, Serbia. Tours are available by appointment and provide a detailed history of the building and the faith. Father Russell, the priest, is known for his welcoming nature and willingness to answer questions about Orthodoxy.
Looking for a spiritual experience that combines history, tradition, & breathtaking beauty? Look no further than the Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church in Butte, Montana. I had the privilege of attending the Good Friday service at the church last night, and I was blown away by the stunning hand-painted walls and icons, as well as the majestic stained glass windows. The artistry and attention to detail is truly breathtaking, and it's clear that this is a place where tradition and faith are celebrated in a meaningful way. One of the most moving parts of the service was the tradition of the lighted candle and walking around the church. It felt like a symbol of unity and solidarity, as we all moved together in quiet reflection, under the night light of our precious lady of the rockies. Whether you're a member of the Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church or simply looking for a unique spiritual experience, The richest hill on earth the Butte, Montana location is a must-visit destination. The beauty of the church, combined with the depth of its traditions and practices, makes it a truly unforgettable experience. So come light a candle and walk with us - you won't regret it. Thanks, Jennifer Shea & Lisa Shea for the invite.

Just spend 6 hours round trip to the food festival. Church beautiful. DANCERS AMAZING. But we only got to enjoy about 30 minutes because we had to leave. My 5lb yorkie I had with us set off a very nasty rude Karen. No where on any sign or post online says dogs are not welcome. I have gone in to past and there were dogs so I thought it would be fine at the outdoor event. It's fine I couldn't stay with my dog. Rules are rules. But this lady was upity and arrogantly rude. Not someone that should be representing a CHURCH! People like her are the reason I don't attend church.

The father, when called (just look up the number), immediately met us and gave us a detailed tour. The tour encompassed a history of the building, the faith, and anything else you'd want to know about the city. I truly enjoyed the experience and would suggest this place to anyone with open eyes and an open mind.

In my travels I have never seen a Church so adorned. Worth a visit to see in color the rich heritage of the Orthodox Church. Father Russell is a wonderful Priest that will take the time to answer any question one might have about Orthodoxy.

Being raised a Catholic by a Croatian Grandmother, I was apprehensive about my growing interest in the Orthodox Religion! Fearful of Gramma coming from the beyond to yank my pony-tail! But after I made that first step inside the church I immediately felt the loving arms of all the Saints hovering above my head and I knew I was “home” Gramma gave me a solid foundation but Father Russell made it real. I have never known such fellowship as I do at Holy Trinity !

The Dumas Brothel, a historic red-brick building, operated as a brothel from 1890 to 1982 and is now open for guided tours. It was founded by the Nadeau brothers and named after Joseph's wife, Delia Dumas. The bordello catered to men working in Butte's copper mines and remained active for nearly a century. Over the years, it changed ownership and adapted to evolving customs before closing its doors when prostitution became illegal.
Ted is incredible! Had a very personal and informative tour. Ted really takes his time to explain and not rush through the tour. Started at about 330 pm and finished nearly 530. Also was able to purchase some merchandise this time. The kids absolutely love this creepy and eerie tour. Highly recommend.

The Dumas Brothel tour offered an amazing historical perspective of life in Butte during the days of mining in the Wild West. This tour is about 90 min or so. Don’t miss it! It is so worth the time! Would highly recommend! Take a lot of pictures while you’re there.

Broken Wings Paranormal had a great time investigating this location. We had paranormal activity ALL night. Please be sure to donate to keep this place up and running. There is so much history that is unknown. The only thing keeping it alive are the spirits that continue to roam this building. We can't wait to see what we captured from this (almost) all-night investigation. We came in contact with multiple spirits whose lives were taken here that could not be found. Most interesting enough, this place ran illegally for 65 years. That means, there are a lot of things the world does not know about because it was kept hidden in the shadows.
SUZIE Q — Google review
Did the tour last year with the wife and friends. It was cool great pics and lots of orbs caught in videos. Was going through the pics and realized we did catch something. A face peeking out of the corner. Above the guys head.

I got the pleasure of visiting the Dumas Brothel back in July 2023. My visit was during the day on a Saturday and learned a lot from the owner about the history. I got to walk around and take in the history. Also, I must pass on for anyone interested in the paranormal side. There was a lot happening during the daytime, and I am looking forward to visiting sometime in the future.

Sooooo sad they're closed. Watched the last movie last night and felt so bad for the poor kids working. They were blindsided even though the company knew since January. Great service there, always!
Alicia N — Google review
The screen, sound and drinks/ popcorn were good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The seats, however, are really uncomfortable, and the theater smelled damp with very sticky floors. If you REALLY want to see a movie it's a serviceable option, but I wouldn't recommend this place if you have an alternative.
Rob R — Google review
What a hole! Would never go back there to watch another movie again. Promised one movie they did not even deliver that.

It’s your average aging hometown theater. The plus side is that it’s totally affordable even in today’s economy, with concessions. I saw “How to Train Your Dragon” at the 10am and barely anyone was here.

Theater smells awful auditorium #3 as soon as you walk in smells like a funeral home. You can't butter your popcorn here ever it is always under maintenance. You can also hear every other movie playing in the different parts of the theater. The only thing good is the staff. Don't come here! The walls are stained, and the floors are nasty.

We rented K of C for a graduation party. It worked really well. Easily fit about 90 people, maybe more. The kitchen is fully furnished. FYI, the can opener is on the wall. They opened at noon and we were able to decorate. They did close about 10:30 pm (was thinking 2 am since it's a bar). It seemed like it might depend on if people are buying drinks from the bar, maybe would stay open later. I suggest fully cleaning up the night of the event (before they close) don't wait until next day. Just have to get all your stuff cleaned up, they have staff to do floors. Not sure about dishes, we didn't use many so we washed them, but they might have staff to do it too.

I love the bball court and sauna. It would be nice if the lockers were addressed (there's hardly any without locks, which im sure alot of them are no longer in use the available ones are mostly broken, super dirty and are unable to lock properly) some of the equipment should be updated but the history of the gym and feeding the community tuesdays n Thursdays is awesome. Church
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Butte is a remarkable place of worship with a striking tall white steeple. It holds deep personal significance for many, being the site of weddings, baptisms, and funerals. The church hosts classical music events with great acoustics for brass sections and features live music during Sunday mass. Father Patrick Beretta is known for his warm welcome and engaging sermons.
IC Church in Butte is an exceptional place of worship that catches the eye with its impressive tall white steeple. It holds a special significance in my life as my wife and I tied the knot here two decades ago. Over the years, this church has been a witness to numerous cherished family milestones, ranging from joyous baptisms to heartfelt funerals. One of the highlights of attending Sunday mass during the school year is the live music, complete with the uplifting rhythm of drums. The harmonious melodies add an extra layer of spirituality to the worship experience. The stained glass windows within IC Church are truly a sight to behold, exuding beauty and radiance. Additionally, the presence of a built-in organ adds a majestic touch to the atmosphere, enhancing the overall ambiance of the church. Without hesitation, I highly recommend IC Church to anyone seeking a place of worship that stands out not only for its architectural splendor but also for the sense of community and spiritual solace it provides.

We attempted to visit July 13, around noon. In fact, we endured difficult traffic and complicated parking during the Folk Festival, trying to visit. We're not convinced this is actually a place to visit at all.

Butte Floral exceeded my expectations in providing outstanding customer service. The flower arrangement was exactly what I had envisioned for a very special occasion, my sister's 60th wedding anniversary! Orchids are the 60th anniversary flower.

Highly recommend for flower delivery in Butte, MT. I recently had some flowers delivered to my mom while in the hospital, it was a beautiful bouquet delivered within 12 hours (the next morning). Afterwards I contacted the owner due to my own misunderstanding regarding the process/expectations. Despite my current difficult situation and my ignorance of flower delivery, they were kind and patient regarding my concerns. They handled things very tactfully despite the difficult baggage I brought to the conversation. Once again, highly recommend. Good business, better owners! Thank you again!
