The Kigali Genocide Memorial is a significant tribute to the victims of the 1994 Rwandan genocide. It offers visitors a chance to gain insight into the tragic events through various exhibits, including audio messages from victims and video recordings of the perpetrators. Despite being emotionally demanding, it provides a foundation for understanding Rwanda's complex history. The memorial also showcases art and documentation related to the mass killings that occurred in 1994, offering visitors an opportunity to comprehend this dark period in Rwanda's past.
Very moving and informative museum. Self guided and paced so you can take as much time as you need. The room with the pictures of the victims was heartbreaking.
Alexandra K — Google review
Historical place; also quite humbling. Pictures are not allowed inside the memorial out of respect. No charge to access the location. Voluntary contributions can be made. The 'auditory guides' can be rented for a fee, if one requires an auditory guided tour.
Temilolu S — Google review
For me, it was a very emotional experience to see first hand what actually happened to people during the genocide. Visitors were not allowed to take pictures inside. But all in all, it was an educative visit.
Chima E — Google review
Very well done memorial to honor the victims of the Rwanda Genocide. Be prepared to be overwhelmed with the sadness of what happened. It's impossible to understand how people could turn against each other in this way.
Judy M — Google review
Go there's with some emotional preparation as this place will move your soul. The memorial captures the brutal memories of the past so poignantly that one can't stop the tears flowing from their eyes. Every section of the memorial is such a haunting reminder to the history of this beautiful country. I would love to go there again sometime soon.
Robin K — Google review
Very moving & emotion visit...The images & videos inside are very powerful...sometimes extremely difficult to look at ( out of respect filming & photos are not permitted inside the building's main museum) The site is also a final resting place in them for many Rwandan remains for the 1994 Genocide
Richard W — Google review
The Kigali genocide memorial offers chilling details of the event of 1994. You get firsthand information and it's a good avenue to learn and remember what really happened. But it doesn't stop there, it shows how much progress Rwanda had made in just three decades after that event.
Sy M — Google review
Amazing description of the years and involvement of other countries leading up to the 1994 tragedy. Be warned - very graphic pictures and descriptions of this historical event. I learned a lot about the events of the Rwanda genocide, but I felt that information following the 1994 event was missing. The memorial describes a period of recovery and then peace. When discussing with the Kigali locals, they tell a different story in the the genocide continues to this day - looks different, but is ongoing. I can only hope and pray these stories are told to the world and that peace can truly come to all peoples of Rwanda. Note: There is a counselor available at the end of the memorial exhibit. 🙏

It is a wonderful space to explore art from the region. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly, offering insightful information about the various pieces and artists. The gallery itself showcases a wide range of vibrant, contemporary works. You can also buy pieces made by locals talking art classes here.

Interesting art pieces made by the Rwandan youth. The 5 stars 🌟 are also definitely for the burundian guy who welcomes visitors. He was very polite and friendly, gave a nice introduction to the exhibits, and reminded people that the big dog at the entrance was friendly 😀 Also, they sell art tools. Convention center
The Kigali Convention Centre has become a prominent feature of the city's skyline, with its unique beehive-like design and striking illuminated exterior. It serves as a venue for various conferences and events, drawing attention not only for its architectural marvel but also for the vibrant atmosphere it creates at night. The surrounding area reflects the country's commitment to cleanliness and community involvement, making it a pleasant place to visit. Additionally, visitors can enjoy dining at the elegant Filini restaurant located within the center.
This convention centre is truly one of the best, boasting world-class facilities and amenities that epitomize luxury and sophistication. Its stunning architectural design is perfectly complemented by the surrounding natural beauty, creating a breathtakingly beautiful setting. Every aspect of this venue is meticulously crafted to perfection, making it an ideal destination for high-end events and gatherings. From the elegant interiors to the seamless functionality, everything about this convention centre exudes excellence and refinement.

A marvel ! This has made Kigali richer, has helped Rwanda and Africa to attract international conferences to this country and continent!! Tremendous facilities are there, enough space to organize a big conference!! Many halls and auditorium. Enough spaces for meetings, foods, and events. This itself is a convention village. Staffs are unbelievably friendly and welcoming. Internet is too broad and fast for the width and speed!! Every facility here is perfect! The building and design is worth a visit. Ambience and surroundings so clean and soothing!!! 👍👍👍
Alok M — Google review
A very nice, new, modern convention center with great food, comfortable seats, air conditioning and well staffed. Clean bathrooms, nice space to move around, easy entrance for cars and parking. In summary, I’m very impressed with the ground, security and space for conferences and meetings.
Alicia W — Google review
Beautiful grounds (limited access due to the political environment of Rwanda) and architecture. Yet, it is not built for large conferences as there are several areas that bottleneck and slow participants from getting from one outbreak session to another. Also, the convention center does not offer a good diversity of food options, especially if you have dietary requirements.
Greg F — Google review
A modern facility in Africa specifically in Kigali Rwanda for hosting both private and public events. Tailored for conferences and hosting centrally located in the heart of Rwanda's capital.

The Rwanda Art Museum, located just four kilometers from Kigali International Airport, is housed in the former presidential house and showcases a diverse collection of contemporary artwork by local and international artists. The museum aims to provide insight into Rwandan creativity and arts, both modern and traditional, through various artistic practices such as music, theatre, poetry, dance, and visual arts.
I was there in the evening for an exhibition and wished I had come during the day to appreciate the compound as well. Great work done by the team there. Great place to visit at a reasonable fee.
D O — Google review
I recently visited the Rwanda Art Museum, formerly known as the Presidential Palace Museum, in Kanombe, near Kigali Airport. The museum, built between 1976 and 1980, was once the residence of two presidents between 1980 and 2000, offers a unique glimpse into Rwanda's history and culture. The ground floor exhibition, which featured old pictures from the early colonial period, was a highlight of my visit. The photographs showcased various aspects of life in Rwanda, including fashion, music, social life, and architecture. I was particularly fascinated by the rare color footage from the 1950s movie "King Solomon's Mines," which was shot on location in Rwanda. It's a shame that this exhibition is only temporary, as it provides a valuable insight into Rwandan culture. The top floor of the house is dedicated to contemporary art, but unfortunately, the pieces are not curated or accompanied by explanations, which made it difficult to appreciate their significance. The house itself is impressive, and it's interesting to see what a presidential palace looked like. The gardens are also beautiful, and visitors can explore them at their leisure. For an additional fee, you can visit the closed-off area where the remains of President Habyarimana's aircraft are preserved. Although there's not much to see except for a few plane parts, it's still a poignant reminder of the country's turbulent past. What made my visit truly enjoyable was our knowledgeable guide, who shared many stories about the house and Rwanda's history. The guide's expertise added a rich layer of context to the museum, making the experience even more memorable. Overall, I would recommend visiting the Rwanda Art Museum, especially for its unique exhibitions and historical significance. While some areas of the museum may be lacking in curation or context, the guides are excellent, and the house itself is worth exploring. Tips: - Be sure to check the exhibition schedule, as the ground floor exhibition is temporary. - Consider paying the extra fee to visit the aircraft wreckage, but be aware that it's not an extensive exhibit. - Take your time to explore the gardens and the house, and don't hesitate to ask your guide questions. I hope this review helps, and I look forward to seeing more exhibitions and improvements at the Rwanda Art Museum in the future!
Marcus M — Google review
You can visit the site of the plane crash that started the genocide in 1994. This is very interesting and gut wrenching. The museum itself is the former presidential palace, which is now an art museum that features local artists. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, but the art felt a bit toned down given the vibrant culture scene in Kigali. So maybe it could be a bit spicier - at least for my taste. But, if you have some time before going to the airport , I would definitely recommend a visit.
Gerald S — Google review
Nice but was very quiet. Pictures weren't allowed in the museum. We saw the debris of the plane that crashed close to the former presidents' residence.
Bisola O — Google review
The museum has so many paintings and art from many local artists. It was interesting how we had to remove our shoes to get in, at least the time we went there, so it would be nice to go there with socks. It's 1500, to visit the museum and 10k to visit both the museum and the plane crush site ( my opinion it's not worth it) The time we visited there was no kids activity but there's a room for kids to color, paint which is good. It will be great to call in advance if you want to take your kids there. My kids enjoyed running outside. It is also a good venue for weddings, and there was a tennis court.
Ineza D — Google review
Interesting visit and approach here, the reception staff will guide you through the entire indoor visit. She has asked the question though so you can get guidance or go on your own. I thought it was interesting to have the guide, some of the insight in Rwandan culture was basic while there is so much more to tell so they can increase the learning process especially for first time visitors to Rwanda. The art work is of an interesting diversity yet rather limited in expo still. Definitely interesting to see (at least we can imagine a bit) how the presidents used to live there in a massive house with many facilities and in-house decorations ( and that about 40 y ago and earlier). The 2000 fr extra are worth it to see the parts of the plane that was shot down in 1994 ( who doesn't remember this news), half of them are still in the original spot, the others were moved to that closed section. Interesting thing to observe are the tennis field and open space used for fighting sports coaching, the swimming pool has not been restored which could be a nice extra for the local community.
Vince L — Google review
This museum is fairly new, but there's still a lot to see and learn. We're not allowed to take photos inside so you'll have to go and enjoy it yourself.
Myra M — Google review
The place opened my eyes to art in Rwanda. This visit and the guidance and explanations of the tour guide made the place come alive, I felt sad, happy, scared and joy all just by immersing my self in the stories told by the arts. Please ask about the art depicting the story of Mugarura, Enjoy :-) . FYI, check the pic with announcements, one in particular, you have to remove your shoes before going inside the house.

The Campaign Against Genocide Museum, located at the Parliament building, offers a deep understanding of the Rwanda Patriotic Front's efforts to halt the genocide following the withdrawal of UN troops. The museum provides insight into the harrowing events that transpired during this dark period in history. Visitors can expect to be moved by disturbing facts and images that reflect on this tragic time. Despite its somber subject matter, a visit to this museum serves as a poignant reminder of humanity's capacity for both cruelty and resilience.
Worthwhile to better understand the genocide and how it ended. Located in the still current parliament building which was used as a fighting base, there are detailed explanations, photographs and more. A tour guide was very friendly and wanted to explain many aspects to me which was quite useful.

Detailed and insightful documentation about resistance in Kigali of the 3rd battalion during Genocide. Do not miss visiting the roof. You need a passport to get in and it costs 18.000 Francs (Jan 2025).

The value of history can never be overstated. I gained more insight to the 1994 genocide. The longer the tour, the stronger my resolve to campaign against discrimination and racism. Rwanda has done an excellent job at reconciliation and this needs to be replicated in countries that have faced similar challenges.
Valucee L — Google review
Powerful and unflinching, this exhibition examines what happened, and importantly offers some analysis of, the factors which led to the genocide of many hundreds of thousands of people in Rwanda, 1994. Guides within the museum tell their own stories of survival and healing - and those of their family members, many or all of whom were massacred- to add even more human and often harrowing detail. Prepare for a challenging and emotional experience - a visit should be at the top of every visitor to Rwanda’s list.

It’s free to go in here but you have to pay for the headphones guide. It was so touching, you could feel the effect of the 1994 genocide. It’s like a genocide museum, I got some books from there too

Reached during Oct 22nd, 2022 in Kigali. According to local guide, around 300K people were burried in the grave of this memorial. I don't know the developmental disparity of Rwanda but the racial hate and genocide was one of the bad memory of humanity. Now those people are living nicely in harmony. I walked around 22pm in the downtown kigali without having feeling of fear. This is the place to visit and understand what does humanity means and what is the value of peace and love.

Amahoro National Stadium, located in the Remera area of Kigali, Rwanda, is the largest soccer stadium in the country. With a current capacity of 30,000 seats and plans to expand to 45,000 seats by June 2024, it offers an electrifying atmosphere for sports enthusiasts.
A beautiful place to watch the soccer games. Well thought out concept and surrounding venues. We got a tour of the facility during our visit to Kigali. I look forward to returning to watch a game.

While I had an amazing time watching the APR vs Rayon Sport game at the stadium on March 9th, 2025, I unfortunately had a very negative experience with some of the staff. I had purchased a VIP ticket, and after inquiring about upgrading to VVIP (from a 30k ticket to a 50k one), I was initially told that I would need to buy a completely new VVIP ticket. However, after a while, they told me there were no tickets left, then suddenly claimed they had a VVIP ticket available for me. The situation quickly became more concerning when they insisted on cash payment only and refused to accept my Visa card or even mobile money. I was led to an isolated part of the stadium, the emergency stairs, where I was told to give the money directly to the staff. It felt very uncomfortable and unsafe. Once I handed over the 50k cash, they told me to remove my VIP bracelet and discard it, which only added to the confusion and unease. Additionally, I was told I would not be receiving a receipt, which further raised concerns about the legitimacy of the transaction. The staff members involved, a young man and a lady named Sonia (if I remember correctly), clearly took advantage of the situation. I hope the stadium management looks into this and takes action to prevent such scams from happening to others in the future. I would recommend caution when dealing with ticket upgrades or purchases in the future, as not all staff may be operating in good faith.

My Amahoro Stadium Experience 🇷🇼⚽ Visiting Amahoro Stadium was more than just attending a match — it was a full cultural experience. Located in Kigali, Rwanda, Amahoro (“peace” in Kinyarwanda) Stadium stands as a symbol of unity, resilience, and national pride. From the moment I arrived, the energy was electric. Fans from all walks of life came together in vibrant colors, waving flags and chanting with infectious spirit. The recently renovated stadium is impressive — clean facilities, improved seating, and modern amenities made the experience comfortable and enjoyable. The view from the stands was fantastic, offering a clear sightline to the pitch from virtually every angle. Security was well-organized, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. What stood out most, though, was the atmosphere: passionate, respectful, and family-friendly. Whether you're a die-hard football fan or just there for the experience, the sense of community is undeniable. Amahoro Stadium isn't just a venue — it's a heartbeat of Rwandan sports and culture. I left feeling inspired, uplifted, and already planning my next visit.

Nestled on Nyarugenge Hill in Kigali, the Kandt House Museum serves as a fascinating portal into Rwanda's colonial and political past. Once the residence of Richard Kandt, the first colonial governor of Rwanda, this museum has been thoughtfully transformed to honor his legacy and showcase the intricate relationship between Rwandan flora, fauna, and their environment.
Interesting museum about a very specific time of Rwanda's history. The staff was very kind and helpful. It was a fun bonus to see Steve, the crocodile and some snakes there as well. When you go you will learn why 🙂

very informative stop focused on the german colonial history of rwanda. the exhibits are well-organized into sections and provide a deep look into early colonial presence. there are also live animals like a baby crocodile and snakes, though viewing them requires an extra fee. worth a visit if you're exploring kigali’s historical sites.
Michal Z — Google review
I recently visited the museum, which is a pleasant and important place to learn about a key part of Rwanda’s history. The entrance fee is symbolic, and there’s a nice gift shop. As a visual artist and interior architect, I’d like to share a few observations. The house restoration is overall well done, but presenting Rwanda’s history through cartoonish posters diminishes the value of the space. I suggest more modern displays using LED walls, and highlighting important sections with large glass display cases and proper lighting. The zoo also needs a full update, including the crocodile area and all enclosures. The parking lot should be relocated outside the museum, and the place lacks a cafeteria. Seating in the garden is uncomfortable and should be improved. I also recommend re-cladding the general site with local materials to fix the current visual distortion. Lastly, the statue of the German explorer should be replaced with a more realistic sculpture. The current one appears naive, and its base shaped like Rwanda’s map sends an unfortunate symbolic message that doesn’t reflect the beauty and dignity of this country.
Yousef H — Google review
Very nice museum to have an overview of the Rwandan history. The guide was perfect not going in too much detail but explaining it very nicely. However, small issue with the payment methods we waited 1 hour for them to calculate the entry fees.

This is a small yet lovely museum that briefs visitors on colonial Africa and which countries were colonialized by whom. One can buy tickets at the entrance, and there is ample parking. The ticket office also sells souvenirs. There is a nice garden outside. Once inside, the place is well organized and easy to navigate. You get a guide as part of the visit. Once done with the museum, there is a section outdoor for reptiles. Worth spending 30-60 minutes here.

This is such a beautiful place both inside and out. I paid 10K for a 1 year membership. This is a steal. You can borrow three books for three weeks if you are a member. Wow what a great deal! Definitely loved the selection of books too. My only request is that they provide better lighting as there are some places that are a bit darker but other than that, I am impressed.

I had a great time visiting the Kigali Public Library. I have missed going to the library and yes, it was an opportunity to get that calm, seeing others studying and just diving into reading too. The Library is need and we'll managed. I like the ambience and the books are great. I like the location too. It is just opposite of American Embassy. It isn't far away from the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre. Got a major hospital close by too. If you are looking for a place to just soak in and get a chance to read up, go to the Kigali Public Library. No noise, no distractions.

Ntarama Genocide Memorial is a solemn place that bears witness to the tragic events of the Rwandan genocide. The site, once a church where thousands sought refuge and lost their lives, remains largely untouched. Visitors can still see remnants of clothing, fractured skulls, and mass graves. The memorial serves as a reminder of the atrocities that occurred in 1994. It offers a harrowing yet important educational experience about the genocide.
Evidence of the atrocities are preserved here in the church and outbuildings where thousands died. Really harrowing accounts of the deathes of innocents, especially the torture of women and the smashing of babies against the wall. In the Kigali Genocide Memorial there are photographs of decomposed bodies in the church, so seeing those photos after visiting the Ntarama site was a shocking.
Derek M — Google review
Really informative guided tour of a site of such tragedy that is maintained as a reminder of the genocide in hopes that learning and remembering will prevent future genocides. It's also home to a mass grave where bodies found to this day are buried and honored with commemoration ceremonies

Historical, reminds me of how humanity is precious and how we should not take peace for granted, I love that the facility has build a brand new building and the remains of the victims are properly stored in coffins.

A great place to learn about the terrible history (genocide) in Rwanda in 1994. Our guide explained a lot and it was very interesting to learn more about the history and also everything that happened before the genocide took place.
Mark ( — Google review
A very sad place where genocide took place. The site has been preserved as much as possible, rather than turning into a typical museum. The church still holds the clothes and belongings of the victims. Some of the details are harrowing, such as vissible blood stains on walls and how they got there, but it is important to learn about this. Excellent and informative guide who takes an academic approach to the tour.

The Belgian Peacekeepers Memorial, established by the Belgian government in 2000, commemorates the 10 Belgian UN Peacekeepers who were tragically killed during the Rwandan Genocide. This memorial serves as a poignant reminder of the events that unfolded in 1994 when Hutu extremists targeted these peacekeepers to compel the withdrawal of UN forces from Rwanda, ultimately leading to a full-scale genocide. The exhibit provides insightful information about the peacekeepers and their efforts in a clear and accessible manner.
Always painful step into the past and the terrible ending for the peacekeeping soldiers that came to support the country but were left on their own by the political decision makers in that period...

A deep and meaningful memorial to the Belgian peacekeepers who were killed. Well kept, well maintained part of history that should not be forgotten. Clean environment, friendly and polite attendant.

Walking distance from Kigali Marriott Hotel and very safe to visit. As a Belgian I was deeply touched by reading all the information displayed on the wall about the brutal murder of the 10 courageous soldiers. Admission is free - donation to the knowledgeable guide is welcomed. It is a wonderful memorial and worth spending 30’ of your time here. Let’s not forget!
Jo G — Google review
This historical place is tranquil, well-kept and worth visiting while in Kigali. It's located closer to the city centre. Information on what happened to the commandos is well-documented on the walls. The staff was welcoming and supportive. It is free to visit here, they accept donations for maintenance of the area.
Jirani F — Google review
A place that resonates strongly with the unfortunate fate of the 10 Belgian soldiers who lost their lives on the first day of the genocide in 1994. The outside has been kept the way it was since 1994, with bulletholes all over the walls. Inside, you can read a detailed recount of the events that led to the killing of the 10 soldiers. The place is kept in a very good condition and the only guide on site is very helpful. No ticket is necessary, but donation seems to be the right thing to do.

Nice Location For this price: seats don't recline while the viewing audience is disrespectfully talkative, uses their phones while Black Panther Wakanda Forever showed, crunched on popcorn kernels not the actual popcorn while the toilets had no Tissue, elder patron fell asleep and snored after she devoured those kernels and NO ONE CLEANED IN BETWEEN VIEWINGS. 3D is an extra 500 Rwf each person. It was unexpected nor advertised until point of purchase. It's upstairs. 3rd floor. Elevator and stairs are convenient. Staff is polite. This is an older seating set up = first come first serve for seating. P.S. the movie just starts. No previews. I was kinda confused but elated.

Very well maintained airport, i can say this is one of the best airport in Africa. The officers are very professional, respectful and helpful. There's is element of any expectation for money or thought to provide inconvenience to the passenger. Immigration process is smooth and they also provide additional information about East Africa Visa. I could give USD 100 note and get back the exact change. Many countries should learn from Rwanda
Daniel P — Google review
A very small airport which is nice because you can't get lost. However a new security procedure has been established when driving in the car which takes a long time to get through so be there in good time. Inside the airport you are always asked to take of your shoes when going through the security check so make sure to take shoes that are easy to take on and of;) And when you need the Visa it can take a long time if your are not one of the first. Make sure to have exactly 30 dollars, the place where you are staying, the name and number of the person where you are staying or who you have been in contact with, and at last your return date:)
Amanda — Google review
An international airport of Rwanda is one of the best in Africa,I'm talking about security kept high with a lots of services and well trained people to serve you.WiFi is free, parking is a lot better
Khenan D — Google review
The airport staff are great and their service delivery is top quality. The duty free is only for departures and it is NOT DUTY FREE, the prices are way more expensive inside the airport compared to in town. It is a joke to call this a "duty free" when you pay more. For the smokers, there are no smoking rooms inside the airport. So please smoke before you enter to check in. I can't believe they don't have a smoking room, there is space to make one. All airports should have a smoking room, even if it is just big enough for 5 people at a time. Transit passangers spend hours without smoking and when they get to the transit airport and can't smoke will make them think twice about flying via that airport again.

I had a wonderfully spent day on June 31, 2025. My adventure began with a tour of Kigali, where I explored the vibrant neighborhoods and rich culture of the city. One of the highlights was my visit to Nyamirambo, famous for its bustling street food scene. I indulged in delicious local dishes, savoring the flavors and aromas that filled the air – from spicy brochettes to sweet plantains. Later, I joined the Kigali Bashers for a hiking excursion in the picturesque area of Gikondo. The experience was truly exhilarating as we navigated through marshlands, climbed gentle hills, and even hopped across small rivers. The lush greenery and the sound of nature created a perfect backdrop for our adventure. Overall, it was a day filled with memorable experiences, new friends, and a deeper appreciation for the beauty of Kigali and its surroundings.
