Papeete, French Polynesia skyline: the 39 most iconic buildings and best views in Papeete

This is a church. In the middle of the city. Nothing special. But free parking for two hours, close to the main port, in a calm area.

I was in Tahiti on 22nd August, 2017, a beautiful but pretty hot day, and while out site-seeing was looking for the US Embassy (McDonald's) and came across the Papeete Catholic Cathedral, know as Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Papeete. Not at all far from the waterfront, it's a modest but nice Cathedral. It was built by French missionaries in the period 1848-1875 making it the oldest church in Tahiti. Also of interest is that it's the last remaining examples of the early colonial architecture of Papeete. The gaily coloured with red roof, not to mention the distinctive red spire on the church tower certainly make this cathedral a stand out in the centre of the capital. The Cathedral has benefited from several restorations over the years and it will be interesting to see how it holds its place in years to come as central Papeete develops, as I'm sure that it will. ps. Walking a little further down the road from the Cathedral I eventually found the rather uninteresting U.S. Embassy.

if you visit the nearby Market, do spend a few minutes here as well. Not a western style cathedral, not an engineering marvel, but very nice. Loved the chicken in the church garden too :)

Amazing place for chilling out, having some coffee or beer in a nice bars and restaurants surrounded. Or just go for a nice walk. If you feel like having exercise, perfect place for running or for a gym there is a several outdoor gym center free of charge available in the park.

It’s a quaint and quiet little park. Great for relaxing, taking a load off or just chilling or take your lunch, eat and relax.

This park is a great place to relax in the shade. My locals playing chess or hanging with friends and family. A lot of different palms tress with some being very old, such as the chambronia m.

Let's of homeless people when we went there, and it's a very small park. Not at all like a botanical garden, not many bougainvillea. Would not recommend.

I thought the tomb was very cool. However, there was no explanation and you cannot go inside. It's also kind of hidden behind the church. It's a good spot to visit if it's in route of where you want to go. Otherwise it may be a little disappointing if you purposely drive there to visit the tomb.

OK, don't hate on me, please, but the tomb it's self is kinda boring it's cool to see once, but only once, BUT the beach is pretty nice. I see locals here all the time. The building around the tomb is also interesting. So it gets 3 out of 5.

The tomb is nice, but seen in the blink of an eye. Locals who were cleaning it said that it is "a tabu" and can't be visited inside.

It was a little difficult to find this spot, but interesting all the same. There's not much else around except the church to see. The grounds are beautiful though.

Informative. Explains the history of pearls in the pacific. Took 20 minutes to view all exhibits. I know understand the Robert Wan is the Polynesian pearls equivalent of DeBeres. No cost for touring museum.

The Robert Wan Pearl Museum in Tahiti provides insights into pearl cultivation through its exhibit, but it feels predominantly like a high-end pearl retail store rather than a pearl museum. While the free admission is a plus, the high prices of the items for sale gives a more commercial vibe.

It’s basically a shop with a few exhibits on the side. What’s actually nice is you can also see some really amazing pearls for sale. Parking is a bit challenging.

Worth stopping by if you are in town. Get a chance to learn a thing or two about the history and origin of pearls. Otherwise you can also buy some fine selections here. Finally don’t be afraid to ask the staff questions! They are very friendly and eager to share their knowledge.

Very informative tour. The guide explained how the pearl was harvested and the exhibits are interesting. It will take you about 15 mins to move around. Spend time to read some articles. And did I mention it's air conditioned - great to escape the afternoon heat for awhile.

It is more an exhibition next to the shop than a museum, but it is carefully arranged. The history of perls, the "production" and the different qualities are explained. The museum is for free.

Had a delicious lunch at Meherio in Pape’ete. Our server Tam was lovely, and provided great service, along with local knowledge and recommendations. Tam also kept us entertained with some cheeky humour :) The Polynesian Platter and seafood bowl were great, and the star was the Saumon Risotto - phenomenal.

Meherio Tahitian Bistro is a great spot right on the water in Tahiti. I found some unexpected flavors in the most delightful way. I had their Tuna Sashimi with Olives, Parmesan, and Pizza Seasoning. Yes, you read that right. At first glance, it might sound like a chaotic mix of ingredients… this recipe is coming back to St. Louis with me. The fresh, buttery tuna is at the bottom of the plate, topped with salty bites of olives, the richness of Parmesan, and the surprising addition of a pizza type seasoning, which somehow ties everything together. It shouldn’t work, but it absolutely does.

Loved the ambiance and the profesional service, they were very fast and kind. The food was tasty and also received a complementary bread and olivecream.

I had to deduct stars because they allow smoking in the restaurant and that is unacceptable and ruined the experience. The food is excellent and has great views. If they would respect people's health and not allow smoking around guests eating I would give a stars.

Beautiful terrace staff are excellent but food was not something I would go back there for. I ordered the fish and chips the batter was thick and soggy the fish inside was overcooked and had no flavour at all. The fries were fine the mahi mahi starter was ok but quite salty. Prices are high and personally I do not think the meal was worth it. Should have had the traditional poke from the mall.

The food here is amazing. The views are great.. definitely the the best meal of our trip. The seafood risotto was fantastic.

This is a fantastic little gallery that has a lot of unique artworks and historically accurate pieces that showcase French Polynesian rich culture. Lady working there was very kind, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She explained the meanings behind works, and answered all of our questions. I definitely recommend to visit.

What a truly amazing store with beautifully made local sculptures, carvings and other heritage items. I wish we had more time as we would have loved to spend a lot longer considering each item as they were all so special.

Manua is an excellent Arts and Culture Gallery to visit and purchase from. Laina was so very helpful and knowledgeable. We made a purchase and as outlined by Laina we were easy able to work through the Tahitian exit and New Zealand entry processes. A must visit Gallery on the waterfront.

My wife and I greatly enjoyed our time here. We purchased a beautiful tiki and a beautiful ivory/wood carving. We spent a significant amount of time there asking questions. They were so kind as to allow us to feed our daughter some formula there and even offered to close the shop for some privacy. Great gallery and it was quite special. We will continue to return in the future on any future visits.

I recently purchased a very special ukulele from Manua Exquisite Tahitian Art. The entire experience was awesome! Gisele was very helpful and friendly, taking a great deal of time with me. I highly recommend taking a look at the fine art and fun objects to help you remember visiting paradise!!

A really nice museum for the author of Muriny on the Bounty. We went as part of a tour after disembarking from the cruise ship; I wasn't really into this stop but have to admit I was unexpectedly impressed. James Hall flew with the Escodrille Lafayette, an American volunteer fighter squadron in France 🇫🇷 in WWI. These were some brave, badass dudes risking their lives when they didn't have to. Huge respect for these heroes.

REALLY worth a visit! Even with limited prior knowledge, you'll be caught up to speed by friendly staff very quickly, and the whole atmosphere is a tranquil travel through time. Super pleasant workers as well, you'll definitely leave with a big smile :)

Very nice and they gave a lovely tour and History of the author of Munity on the Bounty. We were on a guided tour and we're served lemonade and Banana bread.

Beautifully curated, an incredible visit. The curator is incredibly kind, thoughtful, she answered all my questions and inspired me to read Mr. Hall’s books. Such a pleasant afternoon, I recommend if you’re looking for a calming restful stop on your journeys.

Very informative tour about a prolific author, WW1 pilot from Iowa. Parking is across the divided highway with a crosswalk available. We had to pass the house and use the ne t roundabout to come back to park.

Very interesting. Gives history of James Norman Hall and the many books he wrote. Original furniture and his typewriter uniforms etc.

Had a very wonderful time with Vivienne who is a perfect host for this wonderful little gem. Took me back in times. Highly recommend it.

A crowded bar to enjoy live music. It's quite busy and the waitress takes their time to serve you. The atmosphere is really fun.

We had dinner here and absolutely loved it. The Porc Roussillant and Frites de Manioc were both outstanding — crispy pork with rich flavor and perfectly fried cassava fries. They were recommended by our waitress as the chef’s specials, and it was spot on. The craft beer here is easily some of the best in Papeete — smooth, refreshing, and clearly brewed with care. The service was friendly and relaxed, and the staff made us feel welcome. The location right by the pier gives you a beautiful ocean view and an easygoing vibe. When the live music started in the evening, the whole place came alive without feeling too loud or touristy. Overall, this spot perfectly combines great food, local beer, and an authentic island atmosphere. If you’re in Papeete, this is one of those places you shouldn’t skip. 🍻🌴

We stopped in while waiting to get on a cruise because we wanted to try some local beer. I got a flight, which had all their regular beers and a limited edition brewer's special. Their core beers are fine, not my favorite but drinkable. If you're an American IPA drinker, the IPA is not for you. It's much more of a malt-forward British IPA. The standout beer was the brewer's special! I know it changes, but it was by far the most delicious. After my tasting flight I got a pint of it!

What a great place to go for good food! We were looking for a local spot in Tahiti that was walking distance from our hotel and found this popular spot just down the road. There are two levels and we went up to the "Baroof" on te upper level. Great music, amazing service and a fun atmosphere! The pizzas are amazing and the Profiterols are to die for! Soo good. I would recommend this restaurant/bar to anyone looking for a nice night out in Tahiti.

We have no problem getting a table for dinner on a holiday… service was slow with few guest. foods are tasty and extra charge applies for to- go container, 100 franc. Plenty of street parkings surrounding the restaurant.

Conveniently located near the parks and ferry. The staff is very nice, food is a delicious selection of French Polynesian cuisine, and the cocktails are superb. We were there in the evening dining at the rooftop bar, where they had a DJ playing music and downstairs had live music. We had a fantastic time there. Go give it a try. Oh yeah...we came back for lunch the next day and sat inside the restaurant where there was AC, it can get very hot in the day.

We decided to dine here since our cruise ship doesn’t depart until much later. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The prices are well within reason. We ordered the fish ‘ceviche’ in coconut milk and a couple of steaks. Oh and local beers. Soon after we arrived, a life band started playing local music. My wife and I really enjoyed the food and the service was excellent.

Beautiful restaurant, very pleasant service, provided everything we asked for. We had sashimi, tuna tartare, seared tuna, beef steak and everything was delicious. Sashimi with oyster/mustard sauce was just incredible, great piece of fresh tuna. One of few restaurants open on Sunday in Papeete.

Got the breakfast set menu with Tahitian raw fish. Fish was a good texture and I loved the cucumber and tomatoes with it!

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Papeete! My husband & I ate mostly from the daily special options. The Endive salad was simple, elegant & delicious. After our first visit(we went three times during our stay) we ordered anything that came with the Roquefort sauce. Its amazing! On fish or meat….I ate all of it. The atmosphere is perfect. Wait staff were very helpful & kind. They had old 80’s music videos playing on the tv….some I haven’t seen in years & a few you could only see in Europe. The location is great for people watching. It’s an excellent spot to pop in for a few drinks if you need to cool off or take a break from shopping. Anyone who would want to eat a hamburger when there is actual French cuisine available to them needs tapped on the forehead with a tack hammer.

Definitely do not recommend eating here!!! Food was terrible. Worst on the island. Ordered a recommendation chicken sandwich ($20 sandwich) it was the worst one I’ve had in my life. I also took my second bite and had a huge bone in my mouth. There’s better places to eat on the island for sure. We just went here because everything else was closed. This might be a good spot for drinks just not food. It was dark meat and the egg was slimy with no flavor or spice, the whole thing had nothing on it actually. Juice was good but I’m sure it was from a carton. We got the crème brûlée thinking that would be better. No ); it was the worst one I ever had. I had to spit it out. I’ve never done that with a desert before. It was really bad. Wi-Fi also lasted 30 mins. I asked for it before I ordered and they didn’t give it to me and walked away, so I asked someone else because I needed it to translate and she barley gave it to me and wasn’t the nicest server. Don’t recommend this place.

Fantastic restaurant in a Papeete backstreet. Super-friendly and helpful staff, they even let us taste some wines so we could make an informed choice. The food was superb. We chose our mains from the day menu (pork and veal) and both were absolutely delicious. The entrees and desserts were excellent too. Also, the chef came out several times to ensure everybody was happy, how often does that happen these days?

Fantastic dining experience at this gem of a restaurant. The food is amazing. The scallops were the best I’ve ever had in my life (including multiple Michelin starred restaurants). My wife’s mahi mahi was equally amazing. One of the best restaurants in all of Tahiti.

Absolutely perfect dinner. I started by ordering the duck breast souffle. This, itself, was a healthy snack - though, I was hungry. I then ordered the grilled salmon with bernaisse sauce. Very highly recommended. Finally, I finished with the profiteroles (salted caramel). Service was a bit slow, but it's to be expected with such a small dining space (10 tables).

Good service. Entrées (parrotfish and duck leg) are solid. Potato leak soup are very tasty. The vanilla souffle is on the sweeter side for my personal liking. Banana souffle crepe is very good.

The Terevau is a good way to get between Tahiti and Moorea. The English part of the website made it easy to buy tickets, which I could print our download electronically. The boarding area and car queue is on the north end of the Pape'ete Ferry Terminal. The boat is comfy enough, with passenger lounges on two decks + a small outside seating area at the back of the ship. There's a snack bar. My experience loading a car was stressful. It's not a roll on/off boat; you drive through a door in the side, into a space with room for about 10 cars. The last few cars, inc. me, had to back up the ramp to fit, while watching for tight clearances and having the crew yell at you. Next time I would try Aremiti for an easier experience. Car passengers have to get out before loading and board separately.

I was impressed with Terevau. Not sure if this is true or not, but the staff said that this ferry was the faster one. We boarded at 8:10am to Moorea and came back to Tahiti on the 4.40pm. The waves were slightly choppy. I loved it, but my friend got sick sea. The ferry staff are used to this and have barf bags available. For a car transport and 2 RT tickets were about $122 USD. There are multiple levels, bottom level was quieter and the view is still lovely.

Great ferry experience to get from Tahiti to Moo'rea! The boat is clean and bathroom are also. The food stand is little lacking but the trip is short so no problem

So easy! Walked up 20 or so minutes before the ferry left. Easy to buy a round trip ticket, handed off our larger suitcases, and climbed on board. Very smooth and fast ferry to Moorea in about 30 mins. A little chaos trying to get our luggage back on the trip back to Tahiti a few days later but it was also raining so everyone was trying to squeeze under awnings.

The best vegetarian food I’ve had on my whole trip! The menu has a big variety of dishes to choose from, the ambience is lovely and the staff are nice. I’d highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Thai food.

Best cheesecake I have ever eaten. The other dishes were great as well, but the cheesecake (vegan) left me speechless. A lot of vegan options. Try it out, you won’t regret.

The only place in Tahiti my husband and I could find with good vegetarian food that served something else besides pizza. The green curry is amazing. Had so much flavor. Pad thai lacked in flavor. They were able to switch it out for me without any issue. No shoes allowed, which added to the experience in my opinion.

The place is very authentic Thai. It's best you make a reservation if you'd like to sit in the 2nd floor with the more traditional Thai setting. I only see 1 person working. So far we were moved from downstairs to upstairs and have been here for 20 minutes. We finally get our orders taken. She pardoned herself and told us she is working solo. So, at this point I felt kinda bad. Then, my friend whom I'm dining with mentions he ate there last night and service wasn't too great either. I do have to say our waitress ended up being very nice and sweet. The food was delectable and worth the wait. If you want great tasting Thai food and have patience definitely fine here.

Very nice Thai restaurant. Fantastic food, ambience and service. We were craving for some spicy food at the end of our trip to French Polynesia and thos was a perfect stop on our last night in Tahiti. Highly recommend the Shrimp Green Curry, Thai style Marlin in 3 spices sauce, Pad Thai and the Thai Fried Rice.

Great food with a vegetarian menu so lots of options. Tried the spring rolls, soup, pad Thai, and red curry. Everything was delicious and their homemade spicy sauce was very hot. Service was slow.

This is NOT a normal hike. If you go to the waterfall, be prepared for something that will test your endurance, your penchant for suffering and your sense of direction. I have never done anything like it and I've hiked trails around the world. You need a permit to hike to the waterfall, and there's a good reason. The trail stops being marked about halfway through. You have to cross the river several times, and there are NOT designated crossings. You have to jump across stones, logs and wade through the water. There are several areas you'll need to climb the rocks. Some have support, some don't. Bring a change of clothes and be sure you have a way to keep your cellphone dry. It also takes about 5 hours round trip, if you're moving quickly, so leave plenty of time to get back before sundown. I'm telling you, do not play around with this trail. It's not for the faint of heart. At all. It was an adventure unlike anything I've ever experienced before.

Great place for a walk, gets pretty exciting if you continue to the water fall. Proceed with caution and a license from the town hall in Papeete. For the waterfall walk good footwear is essential. Good situational awareness, track finding, common sense required.

Cute little cafe close to the Pearl Mueseum. Staff were lovely and helped us through the French menu. Recommend the steak! Coffee was nice and strong. Great breakfast combos as well. Love the ambience.

The black coffee was not intense enough for me…tasted like coffee water, cake was ok though. Around XPF 1200 for all of these, but the service and atmosphere are all fine 👍🏻

We thought it was a teahouse. They have a lot of tea - very very expensive tea - but inside it felt more like a restaurant and they seemed confused that we wanted to have some tea. You can buy their tea to bring home too.

Nice setting and environment to have breakfast of a quick lunch. This place is known for its beautiful tahitian girls pictures on the walls. They make nice vegetarian sushis, Tahitian salad with tuna is also nice, try it with only coconut milk and lime, it makes a healthy and light combination. They have delicious papaya turnover and good tea.

horrible service if you’re not a local/regular. it took 1.5 hrs for our food to come and we were blatantly ignored by the waitstaff. they were quick to serve the regulars who came after us and got their food within 15 minutes of being there. the food was decent, but definitely not worth the annoyance and extremely slow pace from the staff.

Not an authentic Vietnamese food, and a waiter didn’t know what is Pho but served a beef pho to us. However the taste of all the dishes are still very good! I guess it’s the best Vietnamese food in Papeete.

We went greeted with a friendly Ia Orana and then she started speaking in french where I apologized saying sorry I can't speak french. So she said oh tourist! We should have turned around at that point and left. We ordered our food and watched 3 other tables come in after us. 1 table was a large party. Everyone there was served before us, and 2 tables finished their food before they brought us our meal. The Pho was absolutely horrible it smelled like wet spoiled cat food. I could not eat it. My husband said his food was okay. Mind you, I thought maybe it was me, so I had my husband try it. He told me not to eat it, it was spoiled! That it was awful. It took over an hour to get our food. When including us, there were 4 people at that time of order. When the other tables came in, there was a total of 12 people. We were getting ready to leave when they brought it out. They opened for food at 1830. Menu was also in English. I had the Rack of Pork, which was absolutely delicious. The rest in our group enjoyed their selections but were jealous of my Iberian Pork. The sauce that came with it was incredible. Service was outstanding! They gave us a big table in the back corner, with some AC and the live band was very good and not too loud. We will definitely come back.

We visited this place for a late lunch and found the restaurant empty. We ordered the pork and the steak—unfortunately, the pork was undercooked, and the steak arrived a little bloody despite requesting it medium-well. On a positive note, portion sizes were generous for the price point. We skipped drinks but enjoyed the pistachio crème brûlée, which was delicious.

When we got to the restaurant we weren't allowed to sit inside. They claimed they were cleaning it and it wasn't being cleaned at all. So we had to sit outside among people who were smoking cigarettes, which wasn't ideal when trying to eat. The service was very slow and it took at least 20 minutes for our order to be taken and it wasn't busy. The person who was serving us seemed like he didn't want to be at work and wasn't friendly. I dont know if it was because we dont speak French or what, but he wasn't pleasant. I ordered the Mahi Mahi dumplings, and they left a lot to be desired flavor wise. They were underseasoned or missing something I just can't put my finger on. My husband had a burger and fries, which he did enjoy. The dessert was delicious, and I would eat that every day. I just wish my main course was better. Overall, it was just ok and definitely not the best restaurant in Tahiti.

We didn’t like the restaurant. First, it took forever for someone to take our order, and then we waited even longer for the food. The menu was only in French. Out of everything we ordered, the only thing I liked was miso soup with Foie Gras. My fish was terrible—completely inedible! Ron’s duck was okay. We paid $140 for dinner, which is affordable compared to Miami prices, but we honestly regretted going to that restaurant.

We have been in French Polinesia 3 weeks including the best resorts, but the meal in Maru Maru was definitively the best gastronomic experience we had there. 100% recommended. Simply and delicious. Fresh local ingredients. We very very positively surprised.

Decent price, nice cafe onboard. Comfortable seats with plenty of space. Boarding was simple. Just wait around the gate and go in when gate opens. Buying tickets was straightforward. Most people at counter speak English as well. Crossing can be rough at times. One of our crossing was difficult to walk down the isles. There are handles in the bathrooms for a reason, lol. I had to “tripod” (feet spread with head on wall) to use the urinal and even then it was a challenge, lol. One lady go seasick but she was the only one I saw and she said she get seasick real easy. Quickest option to cross to Moorea and back.

Great ferry to/from Tahiti to other islands. We just went over to Mo’orea. Everything went well on the quick 30 trip. Almost on time departure and arrival…within 5 minutes of schedule. Easy on/easy off. Embarkation and debarkation is via stairs but they do have a lower level for those who can’t manage the staircase. We saw a lot birds, too!! Highly recommend.

Clean, efficient ferry service. I took the ferry round trip from Papeete to Moorea. No need to prebook many options for transport times during the day. Staff was welcoming during boarding process. I checked a bag, I felt a little uncomfortable just dropping my bag with no real security process so I didn’t leave any valuables. The ride was only 30mins, I didn’t use the restroom but they were readily available. Some people brought lunch and ate onboard. The seats are comfortable, plenty windows with great views and with such a large vessel, I did not feel crowded (travel during March).

This is just street food, a cheap alternative to a sit down restaurant. NOTHING fancy, nothing special. It is always busy with the locals. If you want fast food but decent food this is your place. Again this is a no frills kind of place. Just basic food at reasonable prices. There is no seating here so prepare to carry your food away or stand there and eat it.

A short walk from the Marché de Papeete (the Papeete Market) and past the Papeete Cathedral is the Vaima Center. This virtually takes up a whole block from Avenue du General de Gaulle opposite McDonald's and Boulevard de la Reine Romare IV on the waterfront side. For a shopping mall it's small by western standards, so much so that I really wouldn't call it a shopping mall but the Vaima Center is the largest building and the largest shopping center in the city of Papeete. It has 60 shops and some 40 businesses. There are food outlets and a number of retail stores, souvenirs shops, clothes and a number of Tahitian pearl jewellery stores. It also has an internet cafe with strong WiFi which can be useful to tourists. It's not much to look at from the back side but it's quite a nice looking complex from the seafront side. Worth a visit.

Avis Papeete was really expensive, had to get a last minute rental due to my other rental falling through and ended up being 3x the amount. There was also an increase in the price quoted to the price charged - wasn't really impressed was giving extortion vibes even though the lady serving me was beautiful, in the end I just wanted to get out on the road. We racked it up to our 'lost in translation' moments. If I did it again, I would use another company as we had good car rental experiences on the outer islands and 1/8th of the price charged in Tahiti.

Super helpful staff and good quality cars with automatics available. On the slightly pricier side but better to be safe on an island (with unfamiliar surroundings). Biggest plus is that they offer a shuttle service to wherever you need to go after dropping your car back

Excellent experience at Downtown Papeete Avis. Only three blocks from the cruise ship terminal. I reserved a manual since no automatic was available at the time of booking. They managed to give me an automatic for the same price (free upgrade). Friendly staff. Easy car return. The car (a Chinese brand) had a transmission problem, but they explained that this type of car had a lot of problems and would be sold pretty soon. Last year my family and I went through a very difficult and traumatic experience when we were rear-ended by a drunk driver while in Tahiti. Hired a small car from this location and then dropped it off at the airport for an extra $30AUD approx. The staff were friendly and helpful. The car was very economical, and petrol didn't end up costing that much $20AUD (Oct 22) to travel to Teahupo'o and to waterfall NW of Papeete. There is a Shell Petrol Station around the corner, which accepts credit cards (most shops accept cards). We took the car on the Terevau ferry to Moorea (need to be very good at parking in a tiny space). This was a good idea in the end, since the Moorea Avis is closed on a Sunday and some people got stuck without transport (buses are not frequent). The airport drop-off location was a bit confusing, as the directions/diagram on the paper were not accurate. The car was checked over by a staff member, and then we were given the ok. No problems, as we had taken out SCDW full cover insurance + tyres. Tip: After entering main airport gate, drive through 1st gate on the left and then drive further down to the 2nd gate next to 2nd hut (smaller hut, not the big one) near the other end of the car park, which is opposite the Avis office to drop off the car. Give the car park ticket to Avis staff member. Overall, it was a good experience. I would hire a car from them again :)

I made a direct reservation at the downtown location for a small automatic car a couple of weeks in advance and had no problems with the reservation in the mid afternoon on a Wednesday upon arrival at the downtown location. Staff were friendly and helpful. Car was new, clean and hybrid. We used the Honda Jazz for 48 hours mostly around Tahiti Iti mainly Taravao to Tautira and Teahupo'o with no issues. Only needed to fill up 1400 francs gas after the journey. The young woman "in training" M was extremely kind and empathetic. The staff would not call us a taxi after unfortunately but dropped us at a taxi stand without explaining that taxis do not actually stop at the taxi stand! Fortunately a kind lady working at a nearby restaurant noticed us standing there and told us to ask someone at the tourist office to help. The kind people at the tahiti tourism office nearby called us a taxi instead. That took about an hour extra to get away from Avis!

We had a great experience with them! We love the maps of Tahiti and Mo’orea they gave us at the airport check in. We brought the car to Mo’orea on a ferry.

We loved our day with tour guide Teuai, he was so knowledgeable and generous with sharing Tahitian histories. A really good tour to choose if you want a good cultural experience. We loved swimming in the waterfall and eating Tahitian foods too and learning about Tahitian tattoo's. Beautiful scenery. An awesome day that'll I'll remember forever! Thank you Teuai!

We went on the full day Vaihiria tour with Teuai and it was amazing! We saw so many amazing views, learned so much about Polynesian culture and history, and Teuai even prepared some traditional Polynesian foods for us to try as well as fresh fruit. Great way to spend a day in Tahiti, would recommend to anyone who is comfortable with bumpy rides as the tour is mostly on unpaved roads. We had a blast though!

Cannot recommend this company with guide Tehui enough for the 8 hour expedition of Papenoo Valley. The natural beauty was unreal, we saw tons of waterfalls and even swam in one, he prepared traditional Polynesian foods for us, and we learned so much about the local culture. We arrived on a cruise today and this company cancelled our whale watching tour because of “bad weather” but there isn’t bad weather and they said they are still sending boats out. They even said they would “try to find room for us on the boat that’s going out”, even though we had a confirmed booking from months ago. Heed this warning! Our anticipation for the “Tahiti by Boat” whale-watching excursion turned into a debacle. Having booked two days ahead on TripAdvisor, our reservation frustratingly hung in ‘pending’ status. Despite seeking confirmation directly from the tour operator at the dock where the tour leaves from upon arrival in Tahiti, we were vaguely told the approval was underway online. Anxiety kicked in on the day of the excursion because upon awakening early that morning, our booking was still unconfirmed, and to our dismay, the official site listed a different starting time than TripAdvisor. In a rushed bid to secure our plans, we navigated the partially French official website, canceling with trip advisor and rebooking there amidst language barriers. However, chaos ensued at the dock. The friendly captain, despite his limited English, conveyed that our names were missing from the list, and shockingly, the actual departure was at 9 am, not 6:30 or 7 am as previously indicated. Several other tourists were caught in this confusion as well and some were already charged! Stranded, with our tight Tahiti itinerary, we were left high and dry as all alternative whale-watching tours were fully booked or inconveniently located. This fiasco effectively spoiled our limited time on the island! To future whale enthusiasts: Pre-book far in advance, insist on direct, clear confirmation, and consider other reliable operators to escape such a disheartening snafu.

They canceled my tour twice, once for weather although other operators didn't cancel, and once because they didn't have enough customers. In the end I did not get to do my #1 activity in Tahiti. Very disappointed.

We just returned from an awesome afternoon on the water with Alan. Such a friendly guide who took us to 3 beautiful places. We were lucky enough to swim with fish, turtles and rays. Finished the afternoon off with a magical sunset, some rum punch and great friends. I would highly recommend the snorkelling tours. Booking was very straight forward and even with children, we always felt very safe. Having such a friendly, helpful guide just topped off a wonderful and memorable day. Highly recommended.

The whale watching experience was amazing, we could see the whale during the trip and also swim with them. There was another spot for turtle located at a spring and a separate one for swimming with sting rays on a shallow under water sand dune. Very friendly guide and a must do while in Tahiti during the whale watching season.

I visited here to buy a permit to hike to Fautau’a falls. There are many different offices in this complex. The office that sells permits has its own entrance off Rue de Lécole des frères de ploërmel. Once I found the right office, they were very helpful.
