Our Lady of the Rocks is a small man-made island with a 17th-century Roman Catholic church and museum. Visitors can embark on a day trip from Kotor, which includes stops at Bijela for swimming, Mamula Island, the Blue Cave, Yugoslavian tunnels, and Porto Montenegro for lunch. The tour culminates with a visit to Our Lady of the Rocks where guests can explore the church and museum before heading back to Kotor.
I wouldn't give anything different than 5 stars for this location. It's a small picturesque island, easily accessible by boat from Perast (5 EUR per person, two way ticket, the boat is available every 10 minutes). The Church has a fee, 3 EUR per person. It's small but beautiful, has a museum inside and you can learn some history for the area. And the views from the island are more than spectacular. The place is a must visit if you plan to go to Montenegro.

Visiting Our Lady of the Rocks was an absolute highlight of my trip to Montenegro! Perched gracefully on its tiny man-made island in the Bay of Kotor, this stunning church feels like something out of a fairytale. The boat ride over is breathtaking, with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and sparkling Adriatic waters, and then suddenly the island appears—small, serene, and steeped in history. The church itself is a gem, adorned with beautiful frescoes, intricate paintings, and an atmosphere that radiates peace and devotion. Every corner tells a story, from the legend of the seamen who created the island stone by stone, to the centuries of faith preserved within its walls. The museum attached is small but fascinating, housing a rich collection of artifacts and votive offerings left by sailors. What struck me most was the sense of harmony between the island, the church, and the surrounding nature—it feels like a sacred meeting point between humanity and the sea. Whether you’re religious, a history lover, or simply someone seeking beauty and tranquility, Our Lady of the Rocks is a must-visit.
Vello P — Google review
The church is located on a small island and the atmosphere is very pleasant when you get there. The island is in the middle of the Bay of Kotor, you can see Perast well from the island.
Monica A — Google review
According to the legend, local seamen found an icon of Madonna and child on a rock sticking out of the sea way back in the 15h century. Thinking it a miracle, they started to slowly bring rocks to create this artificial island upon which a Catholic church was eventually erected. Even today there is an event called фашинада/fašinada whereby locals bring more rocks to drop into the sea and, thus, expand the island further. A fascinated story, and indeed, the church and the island are undeniably beautiful, a true pearl of the sea so to say. However, lamentably, it is precisely this sublime beauty that attracts and uncomfortable amount of people to the island, which renders visiting this place a bit less pleasant than it would be otherwise. Also, to enter the church itself requires paying as well, which is not something I can subscribe to, but if you're willing, make sure to have some cash at the ready if you want to get inside.
Nikola R — Google review
It’s a nice little place. We went kayaking to the place and could leave it there safely. The church is a scam, you have to pay to enter a small church when most are already paying to come to the island by boat?… it’s a cute little place for some pictures, but you’ll have seen everything in about 5-10 minutes.
Thomas O — Google review
This place is a must-visit when you’re in Perast! Take the small boats to get there and don’t be tricked by the people at the parking entrance asking for €20 per person. The island is beautiful for photos and has a special sense of peace. I couldn’t leave without mentioning the photo of Mother Teresa, our great Albanian woman, above which visitors had left their rosaries 🙏
Xhulia P — Google review
Nice little island, €10 for a short boat ride over. It has some great views and a small museum, but don’t visit for too long.
Oscar S — Google review
The church sits on an artificial island created by bulwark of rocks and by sinking old and seized ships loaded with rocks. Renovated in 1722. There's an entrance fee and it can be quite crowded so you'll have to wait in line to enter. Don't forget to take a picture of the beautiful ceiling paintings.

History Museums
Perast Museum is a small but historically rich waterfront maritime museum located in the Bujovic palace, offering panoramic balcony views. The museum showcases artifacts from Perast's Venetian period, including an arms collection and exhibits on the town's history and notable figures. It also features materials donated by local families, providing insight into the village's glorious past under Venetian rule.
Tucked inside the elegant 18ᵗʰ-century Bujović Palace, the Perast City Museum offers a fascinating look into the golden age of this small but mighty Adriatic town. Once a proud maritime hub under Venetian rule, Perast trained ship captains, sailed with its own fleet, and built lavish stone mansions still standing today. Inside the museum, you’ll find: 🌍 Nautical maps, navigational instruments, and captain's logbooks from the 17ᵗʰ and 18ᵗʰ centuries 🎨 Portraits, uniforms, and family relics from Perast’s noble seafaring families ⛵️ A recreated captain’s salon showing how Perast’s elite lived during its maritime peak 📜 Historical documents, weapons, and artifacts from Venetian, Ottoman, and Austro-Hungarian times. The ticket is 8 EUR / person but it is totally worth it - the museum is very well preserved and curated. The staff very nice! Highly recommended if you want to learn more about the history of the region.
Violina P — Google review
The Perast Museum, located in the historic town of Perast, offers an intriguing glimpse into the region’s rich maritime heritage. Housed in a beautifully restored baroque building, the museum showcases a diverse collection of artifacts, including navigational tools, ship models, and historical documents that illustrate the town’s seafaring past. The knowledgeable staff provide insightful information about Perast’s history and cultural significance. With its intimate setting and well-curated exhibits, the museum is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and those exploring the Bay of Kotor.

This was our port stop in Montenegro, and probably the most beautiful stop we made on the whole cruise. Beautifully verdant green mountains drop down to the sea of blue on a beautiful day. a place I would love to return to.
Patrick P — Google review
This is not a Perast town museum, as it contains almost no information about Perast. It's is a maritime museum focused on Ventians and is very small and limited and definitely not worth the €8 entrance fee. Also there is no access to the balcony anymore. Avoid unless you want to learn a little about Venetian maritime
James T — Google review
Small museum dedicated to the glorious days of Perast town, under the dominion of the Venetian Republic. The Museum’s collection consists of materials donated by the local families. The Museum is located in the Bujovic palace, baroc palace beside the sea.
Ivana T — Google review
Visited this museum to learn about history of kotor and Perast. There is small amount of historical pieces, not much details and lots of portraits which are only locals may know. Overpriced place, really doesn’t worth 8€ where you can see more historical pieces in lady rock church for only 3€.
Rugiyya I — Google review
Only Three rooms. Staff doesn’t explain anything at all. Just there to stand & not even a smile. Only thing they told is to keep distance to the cupboards at the library Not allowed to go to balcony in first floor to see the view

The Church of Saint Nicholas, also known as Crkva Svetog Nikole, is a Serbian Orthodox church located in Perast. Despite being built in the early 20th century, it boasts impressive decorations and two iconic onion domes. Inside, visitors can admire stunning frescoes and an intricately adorned iconostasis. For a small fee, you can ascend the bell tower for panoramic views of Perast and the bay.
The Church of St. Nicholas in Perast, Montenegro, is a prominent Roman Catholic church originally built in 1616, replacing an earlier church from 1564. It features a distinctive 55-meter-high bell tower constructed in 1691, which is a major landmark of Perast and offers panoramic views of the Bay of Kotor. In the 18th century, a larger church was constructed behind the original one, designed by Venetian architect Giuseppe Beati, but construction was never completed due to interruptions caused by the Napoleonic Wars. Today, the old and unfinished new churches form a single complex. The church is notable for its Baroque architecture with elements of Romanesque and Renaissance styles. Inside, it houses valuable paintings by local artist Tripo Kokolja and a treasury containing religious artifacts and vestments from the 16th and 17th centuries. Visitors can enter the main worship area for free or pay a small fee to access the domed central room and a museum collection of religious relics. The bell tower is also open for €1, providing stunning views of the surrounding area. Children are not allowed to go up. The Church of St. Nicholas serves not only as a place of worship but also as a symbol of Perast's historical wealth and cultural heritage, making it a must-see attraction in the town.

A must-visit in Perast! St Nicholas Church boasts a majestic 55 m bell tower (built in 1691) with one of the best viewpoints over the bay. Inside, you’ll find breathtaking Baroque altars and a small but exceptional treasury. Climb up for unforgettable views and dive into the town’s rich maritime past
Violina P — Google review
The present church was built in 1616. Next to the church, in 1691, a handsome belfry was constructed by Ivan Skarpa. Built in the baroque period, it has elements of both Romanesque and Renaissance styles. The major bell was given as a present by the archbishops Andrija and Matija Zmajevic in 1713. Two smaller bells were added in 1797. The clock on the belfry was brought from Venice and installed in 1730.
Vadim S — Google review
Quite a modest church compared to ro some others nearby. There is a museums insied witha €2 entrance fee which I didn't go too. Right next to it you can pay €1 and ho up rhe clock tower. Which has amazing views.
Edgar Z — Google review
Everything is quite nice, apart from the lady sitting at the museum entrance. She is exceptionally rude to everyone; to a couple who wanted to know about the bell tower, she told “I don’t know what you ask for, the bell tower doesn’t belong to me.” Upon asking about bell tower ourselves, “closed at 4, will you go in the museum?” And before even we got to answer, she continued “About to close it as well maybe you don’t have time.” Genuinely hope this young girl have the rest of her day go better as she was a menace to every visitor.

I had the best meal. The waiter is so helpful, he recommended for us the perfect option as a Muslim family. The amount of food was more than enough we had to take it out home. I can’t thank him enough for this.

Had some wonderful meals here. Veal and lamb under the bell were both delicious! Service was very good. Prices were the best in Perast!

Very great view, you will have a table right in front of the beach with a whole view of Perast sea. The food is ok, the portion is quite large; we ordered a shared dish for two but it should be for three people. The staff are friendly, but when we stayed there, they folded the sunshade, leaving all customers under super hot sunshine, everyone was unhappy until a man asked them to open the sunshade.
Quan P — Google review
Me and my friend sat here first we thought it was a solid price for this area, food was great, we ordered mix grilled meat, salad and fries, everyone was perfect. The view at the bay and mountains was also stunning, sotting right by the sea and eating was a great experience and to top it off our waiter was very accommodating and pleasant, we were so happy with the service, sadly we didn't catch his name, definitely would highly recommend this place!

Found this gem in Perast. Beautiful views of the sea, friendly and great service from staff, and clean toilets. Most of all, AMAZING food. Tried the LAMB SAC, and it’s the best cuisine we tried in Montenegro. Their montenegro salad is also refreshingly great. Drinks, wine, and beer and so much more. Best to book so that you can have the seats in front. A great reco!

Bell Tower in church Saint Nikolas is a must-visit spot offering breathtaking panoramic views of the town. Despite the challenging climb up 1,155 steps, the view from the top makes it all worth it. It's recommended to avoid being at the top when the bells are ringing. On a clear day, the scenery is simply stunning. The tower entrance fee is only 1 Euro. This attraction provides an unforgettable experience for travelers seeking picturesque vistas and a unique perspective of the town below.

1€ entry fee in cash and quite the climb on narrow stairs with people going both ways which makes it feel a bit adventurous but it definitely pays off as the views from the top are amazing! Saint Apostle Mark Catholic Church is a stunning example of Venetian Baroque architecture, featuring a simple yet elegant design. The church was built in 1760 for the local brotherhood and also served as a mausoleum for noble citizens of Perast. During the socialist rule, it was repurposed as a warehouse by a local company. Outside the church, visitors can find weathered busts of Perast's noblemen, adding to the historical charm of the area.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful small church! Beautifully restored. The Church of St. Mark is made in the Venetian Baroque style. Церковь Святого Марка выполнена в стиле венецианского барокко. Эту церковь специально для местного братства построил в 1760 году Матия Стуканович. Данный храм, помимо своей основной роли, также использовался как мавзолей для погребения знатных горожан Пераста.

(Translated by Google) They write here that the church has been restored, but this is not true. The restoration affected only the façade, if you look through the windows, you will see that nothing has been done inside, that is why it is closed to visitors! The Church of St. Mark is a small temple, built in 1760 by order of Matija Stukanović. It stands out for its Venetian Baroque façade, which is decorated with Corinthian pilasters and a sculptural composition. The pediment depicts the resurrected Jesus Christ, St. Peter with the keys to heaven and St. Mark with the Gospel in his hands (we are playing a game here "find the differences in the sculptures, the left and middle ones are made very similarly). It is interesting that the church was originally dedicated to several patron saints, including the Virgin Mary, St. Anne, St. Mark and St. Matthew. Behind the building there is a belfry with three bells, left over from an older temple that stood on this site earlier. The church was also used as a mausoleum for the burial of notable citizens of Perast, including the Archbishop of Bar and the wife of Admiral Matija Zmajević. Despite the fact that the building was used as a warehouse in the 20th century, some interior elements, such as the Stukanović family coat of arms, have survived to this day. The church is not only historically significant, but also perfectly reflects the architectural heritage of Perast, I really want the hotel to finish the restoration and open its doors to all guests of the city 🫶 We are waiting (Original)

St. John The Baptist Church is located in the Upper Town, situated on top of St. John Hill, while the Lower Town was raided by various forces throughout history. It has been a part of different states and dynasties, experiencing economic and cultural prosperity under the Nemanjic dynasty in the 12th century. Outside St. Nicholas Church, there are weathered busts of Perast's noblemen that can be matched with palace titles to identify them.

Palace Jelena Rooms, a charming hotel nestled within the Luc c-Kolovic-Matikola Palace, offers a captivating experience. With its four enchanting rooms and delightful restaurant, this family-run establishment exudes an atmosphere of elegance and grandeur. The tranquil courtyard provides the perfect setting to enjoy a cup of coffee under the shade in the afternoon. Impeccable affogato and iced coffee options are available that are truly exceptional in taste.
Read reviews for Palace Jelena carefully - most are for the restaurant that has has nothing to do with the rooms. Our room was fantastic - exceeded our expectations way beyond what we hoped for. Room was newly renovated, had a balacony with an A+ view of Perast and Bay of Kotor. I would absolutely stay here again.

Decided to eat at this place after wandering in the area for a minute, and that was an absolute mistake. Ordered a shared pizza which was very mediocre, cheese tasted microwaved.... And here's the kicker, both of us that are here got FOOD POISONING. This is the only food that we shared in the past few days so it honestly can't be anything else. Food is bad anyway, pretty much run away from this place. View is nice, but we got chased away by bees anyway so couldn't enjoy the view. Not too expensive, but in this you get what you pay for...

Nestled in the stunning Bay of Kotor, Our Lady of the Rocks is a charming church located on a manmade islet. According to local legend, the church was built after fishermen discovered an icon of the Virgin Mary with Child on a sea rock and pledged to add a rock to the island after each successful voyage. The islet itself was formed from sunken ships and rock formations over time.
we went out to lady of the rock which was a nice little sailing trip. we just bought the tickets down at the boats and it was much cheaper. we agreed with the boat driver when he would pick us up again and then he came. on the way back he also told a little about the history behind the creation of the island and made recommendations for what else you could see in Montenegro. incredibly beautiful nature and Perast is a beautiful city
Sigurd H — Google review
Beautiful story behind it but nothing more than that really. It’s a tiny island like 200m long, and you only got 1 church on it. The church is just a regular church and the queue to get in is ridiculously long because people need yo pay for tickets in cash (you can not buy them in advance). Not a single tree on the island, no shade from the scorching sun. We only spent 20 min there but it was too much.
Alice K — Google review
It was our first stop on a day trip from Dubrovnik, Croatia. Our tour operator had pre booked boat tickets hence we didn’t have to wait to get the boat on arrival. Short boat ride to the church in a tiny island. Beautiful place. We have spent around 1.30 hours visiting inside the church. You have to buy separate tickets for visiting the church.

We had a day tour from Tivat and visited Our Lady of the Rocks tourist spot. It’s a small island with small church, I wonder it never got under the water. The entrance fee is 2euros if you are in a group or 3euros if you are on a private tour. You can hang around for 20-30miniutes and have some interesting photos. Due to small area size it’s crowded with tourists as it’s a popular destination to visit here in Montenegro. The souvenir shop has some interesting stuff though.
Shukhrat U — Google review
Beautiful small island with tiny church on it- but so special❤️I was twice there last year and now. But for tiny island over crowded with tourists. Definitely buy a ticket to sea the church from inside
Anna D — Google review
Beautiful hilly and sea views around the island. The boat ride is also nice, short, not expensive and fun for kids. On the way there is a nice picture opportunity for the other island. At the island itself there is not much to do or to see.
Ulrich B — Google review
Man made island in the bat of Kotor. There is a legend behind it how it was made. Two buildings on the island are church and souvenir shop with toilets. Many boats dock all around and it gets quite crowded but worth a visit.
Vid V — Google review
Beautiful view of the bay and George island from here. Entrance to the church is costly ( dollops like it’s worth it). Windy otherwise sunny. All the tour boats stop here for 20 minutes which is enough

Church of Our Lady of Škrpjela is a picturesque and popular attraction in Montenegro. Situated on an artificial island, the church offers stunning panoramic views. Visitors can enjoy a pleasant sail to reach the island and explore the small souvenir shop and refreshment options available. While the church itself is a main highlight, it's important to note that during summer months, the air inside may not be ideal. Despite being a beautiful landmark, some visitors find it crowded and compact.
We caught a boat ride out to the Church one afternoon and it was an absolute joy to see this storied place. It is very much a local icon and legend that is not to be missed. Our Lady of the Rocks is one of two islets off the coast of Perast in the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro It is an artificial island created by rocks and sinking old and seized ships loaded with rocks. The Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Rocks is the largest building on the islet, and has a museum attached to it. There is also a small gift shop close to the church and a navigation light at the northern end of the islet. Legend has it that sailors from Perast found a picture of the Virgin Mary on a rock protruding from the sea and taking it as a good sign, began laying rocks on this same spot after every successful voyage so that one day a church could be built on top of the rocks.

Beautiful little island just off the coast of Parest in Montenegro. You can get a taxi boat over there for €5 each (return). The trip over gives you stunning views of the coastline and the island. The trip takes about 5-10 minutes. The island has an incredible church, which you can look around for €10 each. The inside is beautiful and ornate. Don't miss it. You can spend as much time as you want on the island, giving you the chance to take a few hundred photos. You then pick any of the boats coming back. Very easy.

We visited as part of a boat tour from Kotor, beautiful small church with an interesting history and some great views from the man made island. It can get busy with the boat tours but wasn't too bad when we were there mid August, the is a small shop selling ice creams and souvenirs and a well maintained toilet which costs 1 euro.
Steve C — Google review
Took a boat tour to the island. For late October, it was fairly crowded (only I medium sized cruise ship today). I wonder what it is like in the summer, or having 2 big ships arriving (like Thursday this week). Anyway, they charge an admission to enter the church, which caused must people to skip entry, which was helpful. Inside is a small main chamber, with an ornate alter. Walking inside the alter area, turn left though an exit, then continue upstairs to a small museum. They have toilets on the island (1€).

Our Lady of the Rocks is a man-made islet in Montenegro’s Bay of Kotor, home to a Catholic church and a small museum. Local sailors gradually expanded the site with rocks after successful voyages, inspired by a legend that two fishermen found a Virgin Mary icon there in 1452. The church, built in the 16th century, is a popular tourist draw celebrated for its art, history, and stunning views. Sunday Catholic Masses are still held here. Just be early for the short boat ride to the island.

Church of Our Lady of the Rocks Adventurenegrin DMC - Adventure Sports Co. Posting publicly across Google As a local DMC, one of my favorite experiences to share with guests is a visit to Our Lady of the Rocks (Gospa od Škrpjela), a true gem of Boka Bay and one of Montenegro’s most recognizable landmarks. Instead of the usual hassle of finding parking in Perast and then arranging a boat to the island, we offer something much more unique—guided kayak and SUP tours that take you directly across the bay to this fascinating cultural site. The island carries centuries of history and tradition. Built by generations of seafarers who laid stones and even sunken ships to form the base, it is home to the beautiful 17th-century church and museum that preserve the stories of Perast and its people. Local customs, legends, and votive offerings make every corner of the church feel alive with meaning, and the island itself stands as a symbol of perseverance and devotion. Exploring the island this way is not just about sightseeing—it’s about connecting with history, culture, and the authentic spirit of Perast. And after paddling out and taking in the stories, the experience comes full circle with a taste of local gastronomy that adds yet another layer to the journey. A little teaser: did you know that each year, on July 22nd, locals celebrate the tradition of “Fašinada,” when boats loaded with rocks are rowed out to the island to reinforce it, just as their ancestors once did? It’s this living heritage that makes Our Lady of the Rocks such a special place to discover. Of course, having a local guide by your side makes the visit even richer—not only to bring history and culture to life, but also to answer all your questions and share stories you won’t find in any guidebook.

Nestled in the picturesque Montenegrin landscape, Banja Monastery is a serene 12th-century retreat surrounded by olive groves and offering panoramic views of the bay. Visitors can explore ancient stone walls, frescoes, and tranquil gardens while soaking in the breathtaking natural surroundings. The monastery's history is linked to Stefan Nemanja, and it is believed to have been named after Roman baths that sank during an earthquake.

Özgür K — Google review
(Translated by Google) It is believed that the Bath monastery got its name from the Roman baths, which during a strong earthquake in the 6th century AD. went to the seabed along with the ancient Risan (Reason). The foundation of the monastery in the 12th century is associated with Stefan I Nemanja (1113-1199), who more than once escaped on the banks of the Boka from the persecution of his three older brothers during the long and bloody struggle for the throne of Raska. Having finally achieved absolute power and the title of Great Župan, Nemanja did not forget the region that sheltered him in hard times, and founded a church in honor of St. George the Victorious on a small cape between Perast and Risan. The monastery was first mentioned in the document “Studenički typik”, compiled in the Studenica monastery by Saint Sava of Serbia in 1208. The son of Stephen I, Stephen the First-Crown (Stephen II Nemanjic. 1166-1228), also had to fight with his older brother Vukashinin in the struggle for the crown. After the final victory, Stephen II founded the majestic monastery of St. Michael the Archangel on Miholska Prevlaka, under which the Banya monastery was subordinated. In 1654, during an attempt to conquer Perast, the Turks burned the monastery. Before the Turkish invasion, the inhabitants with the monastery treasures took refuge first in the Herzegovinian monastery of Kosierevo (near Niksic), and then in the Tvrdosh monastery and, finally, in the Savina monastery in Herceg Novi. At the beginning of the 18th century, Peter Kordic (Petar Kordiћ) from Risan erected a small church with an altar in honor of St. George on the ruins of a medieval monastery. Archimandrite Stanisa/Anastasy Hilandarats (Atanasie Hilandarats), relying on the help of the inhabitants of Risan, in 1720 erected the current monastery church and the lower wing of the residential building. Monastery buildings were also erected in the 19th century. The construction was mainly financed by wealthy sailor families from Risan. At the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century, the monastery was renovated by Archimandrite Dionysius Miković (Dionisije J. Miković. 1861-1942), a native of Pashtrović. Archimandrite Dionysius served in the Banya monastery for more than half a century. He organized a monastery school, where he himself taught. During World War I, the Austrians placed a garrison and a hospital in the monastery and removed the church bells. After the war, abbot Dnonisiy Mikovich again restored the monastery with the help of enormous material assistance allocated by Vaso Čuković (Vaso ŋukoviě). The monastery church, dedicated to St. George, is located on a small platform at the top of the monastery next to the churchyard. The current church is single-nave, with a semicircular altar apse on the east side and characteristic shallow choirs (choir) on the north and south sides. The temple was built from hewn stone blocks laid in regular horizontal rows. On the façade of the western wall, above the entrance, there is a bell tower with one bell, a deep glazed niche with an icon of St. George and an eight-star rosette. The new iconostasis was created in 1902 by Czech Frank Ziegler. Most of the icons, the royal doors and details of the iconostasis were painted by Pyotr Rafailovich in the 1760s. A high bell tower with three bells was built separately from the temple. Because the monastery is located on a slope that descends steeply to the bay, its entire territory is cascaded: the temple of St. George is located at the very top, on the site below the church there is a monastic necropolis, even lower down there is a residential building (konak), service and utility rooms, a garden, apiary and poultry house. Currently, Bath is a functioning convent. The main shrine of the monastery is a particle of the relics of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious. The monastery treasury of the current church contains many valuable items, such as icons from Boka, Greece, Russia, works of various masters, ritual vestments with silver and gold embroidery. The monastery preserves a large library with church books, which are mainly of Russian origin.

Stay here, you will not regret it! We stayed 5 nights and had the most incredible honeymoon. Private dining, poolside drinks, the most incredible breakfast of any hotel I've ever stayed at. The service was truly exceptional and what made the stay so worthwhile, a real credit to Sasha and the crew. Every single person was available when we had questions about sightseeing or wanted to order a drink, but unobstrusive when we wanted a romantic quiet evening. The staff pointed us to little known swimming spots, the best views of Boka bay and exceptional restaurants. It's an intimate boutique experience that really makes you feel like you own the place. You can select your own music for dinner and dine privately in a number of locations around the hotel, all while your every whim is catered to with a smile. It was the small touches that made the difference. I hate bananas and cleaned my plate but left the bananas untouched at breakfast, and on subsequent days, not a banana in sight. I ordered coffee and an extra espresso, then added it to my coffee, next day my coffee was served with a double espresso automatically. We are vegetarian/vegan, and the chef cooked us beautiful meals, and catered to us at breakfast. Don't miss dining here for dinner. Presentation was what you'd expect from a 5* venue, and everything was delicious. The cocktails were perfectly balanced. The view is so good that lots of couples getting married trekked to the carpark of the hotel to take photos - yet our shots from the pool were even better. I only wish the windows were larger in the rooms so we could enjoy the view from bed, but in a heritage building that's asking for too much.

Tremendous hotel, perfectly well kept, and superior hospitality. Sasha and the entire staff were so welcoming, so pleasant! My wife and I visited in September of 2021. We loved every single part of our stay. All the rooms were beautifully decorated and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious including Sasha’s famous vegan banana bread. I highly recommend having dinner at the retreat as well if given the opportunity. Everything was so fresh, well prepared and delicious. We enjoyed our dinner at Monte Bay more than any restaurant we tried in the Bay of Kotor. Also, ask Sasha about Dabovic Winery. If given the opportunity, we highly recommend it. It’s about an hour drive from Monte Bay and they bring you to this wine village where the Dabovic family have their vineyard. They were such an amazing welcoming family and they took us on a tour of the winery and the town. The alcohol was amazing (Wine and Raki) and the food was even better. Couldn’t have imagined a better experience in Perast.

We stayed three nights at the Monte Bay Retreat in June 2022 and our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer. After a stressful few months we were looking for somewhere where we could just switch off and relax, and couldn’t have picked a more perfect spot. With only six rooms, it often felt like you had the place to yourselves. Sasha and the team were all exceptional and managed to find the perfect balance between being friendly and attentive, while still giving you the privacy and space to enjoy the stunning views and beautifully appointed facilities. It’s clear that the hotel has been a labour of love for Sasha and every detail has been considered. We stayed in the Verige room and it was so nice to wake up to the breathtaking views from the French windows, or sit and have a drink on our own private terrace after an afternoon lounging by the pool. We both fell in love with Montenegro and hope to visit the Monte Bay again soon!

We had a very nice stay in Perast and the best Cappuccino. The staff is extremely friendly and the Chef in the Kitchen is awesome. We had a great dinner, breakfast and Lunch. All dishes were super delicious. We only regret that we just stayed one night. Thanks for this beautiful and peaceful place.

This place is a hidden gem and probably the best place you could land in the entire Kotor Bay. Not only is the place outstandingly beautiful and lovely furnished with attention to detail - also Saša is the best host who makes you feel welcomed and is here to provide you with excellent recommendations. He makes sure you’re in vacation mode within a couple of minutes and really goes the extra mile to enjoy your stay. The pool and the scenic view are even more beautiful in real life than on the pictures. This place is really special. And banana bread deserves an extra mentioning! If you’re looking for something unique off the tourist masses - this is your place!

Fortress
Fort St. Andrija, also known as Sveti Andrija, offers stunning panoramic views of the picturesque Kotor Bay. The hike to the fortress is a challenging but rewarding experience, with a 3.7km trail that ascends along an old military road, providing breathtaking vistas throughout the journey. The fort itself serves as one of the best vantage points overlooking the bay. While hiking, visitors may encounter legless lizards and harmless snakes along the way.
We took a hike to this place starting from Perast. It's a 3.7km hike in each direction and you gain 750 meters climbing the old military road serpentines. The view is amazing all along the walk, especially from the fortress. It's not the easiest hike I took, so if you are not in great shape - take it easy. No water along the way: bring your own water.

Stunning view of Kotor bay from eery crumbling fortress. I climbed from Donji Orahovac and back but you can also climb down to Perast or vice versa. Maps.me will show you the way. It’s surprising how seemingly few people hike this trail, I didn’t pass anyone during 3.5hr hike. Depending on seasons you might see many “snakes” but they’re totally harmless, in fact most are not even snakes but legless lizards :)
Tomoyuki M — Google review
It’s a long and pretty challenging hike, but the views from the top were more than worth it!!! Was a little under 10km round trip, and took us just over 4hrs

Only about a 2hr hike from Perast. Trail very overgrown in a lot of places, but easy enough to follow the old stone path.

Very happy with this two-day stay in Perast. A perfect place from where to explore the area around the Bay of Kotor. Friendly and easygoing hosts. Large room with all usual facilities. And importantly a fantastic view from the terrace in front of the apartment, as well as parking space.

With its enchanting landscape, it is one of the best accommodations that I have had. I truly fell in love with the view, it was the greatest. Also, the host and his aunt who lives next to the house were so nice and hospitable to us. His aunt is so nice and lovely. They are both helpful and do their best to make you comfortable. In the house, you have a kitchen with plates, pots etc. There are two beds. One is double and the other one is just for one person. It is located just next to the main road, so it is easy to find and if you have a car, they have a free parking place. Overall, everything was the chef's kiss.

The owner of the place is too kind. Rooms has a history, maybe more than 100 years old building. This room has every detail, special furnitures and decorative items. It amazed us when we enter the room. Perast is also hidden place that everybody should visit. I suggest you to check the museum captain house. Strongly recommended!!

Great Place to stay in Perast, the apartments are very cosy. The hostesse is absolutely lovely and helped us a lot with recommendations. Some info regarding parking: Generally, its pretty bad during summer. Also people staying in Perast do not get any privileges unfortunately. My observation was that between 9am and about 6pm, everything is packed and you have to be very patient and usually wait until somebody leaves and frees up a space. So my recommendation is to arrive early in the morning or after 6pm when all the day tourists from Kotor have left again. The village is much quieter in the evening.

Catholic church
The Monastery of Saint Anthony of Padua is a significant site in Perast, featuring several churches and defensive towers. The Saint Nicholas Church, Chapel of the Virgin Mary, and other churches are notable attractions. The monastery offers a unique view of Boka and the islet of St. Juraj, along with the Lady of Skrpjela cliffs. Visitors praise its authentic architecture and stunning views.
The church and nearby monastery were built in 1679 by the Mazarovic family. The Franciscans came to Perast in 1636, by invitation of the inhabitants, to open primary and nautical schools. They also practiced medicine and there was a pharmacy in the monastery. Two elliptical windows flank the portal on the baroque facade of St. Antony and there is a statue of St. Barabara above the door in a niche. Until the 19th century, the church had an organ.

(Translated by Google) clear five.. by the way, this is the monastery of St. Anthony of Padua, and the chapel is dedicated to I don't know who.. we stayed there for a couple of days, it was really wonderful, from the friendliness of the staff to the fantastic atmosphere during the evening socializing, and of course - a unique view of Boka and the islet of St. George (not Đorđe, as they try to rechristen it) and the unforgettable Our Lady of Skrpjela (rocks), from the terrace.. By the way, the entire Bay of Kotorska was part of Dalmatia, i.e. Croatia, until 1928..then it was assigned to Montenegro by decree of the Serbian king.. EDITED: here, Catholic religious buildings are represented in Cyrillic, and the islet of Our Lady of Skrpjela (škoja, islet) was renamed "Our Lady of the Rock"... Inače, cijela Boka Kotorska je do 1928. bila dio Dalmacije, tj Hrvatske..tada je dekretom srbijanskog kralja pripisana Crnoj Gori..
