Specialty Museums
The Museum of the Goldfields is a must-visit destination, with its prominent Ivanhoe headframe and rich gold-mining heritage. It boasts the largest display of Western Australia's gold bars and nuggets in an underground vault, offering a glimpse into the region's mining tradition. Visitors can step back in time to the Gold Rush era through preserved settings like miners' quarters, offices of entrepreneurs, and a heritage-listed pub.
Great free museum in Kalgoorlie central with interesting displays and information related to the gold and other history of the area. The building is modern and clean. Great views of the area from the poppet. No food available on site but a nice pub next door.
Linda K — Google review
What a great museum to visit in Kalgoorlie, and it was free, a donation is appreciated though. I think most people head straight to the lift to get a great view of the town from the head frame. Bit cold and windy though, May. Then the Gold Room was my next spot and that was so interesting with a good exhibition of gold (of course) both coins, nuggets and daily use items. Then outside there are exhibits to enjoy including a very narrow pub Lovely visit
Paul S — Google review
It's a very inspiring museum, I was impressed with what they teach, the readings, the photos, it has dazzled me. It's very impressive 👏🏼❤️‍🩹 I added some photos but they don't reflect everything the museum has to do with it, its corridors and its stories.
Millaray A — Google review
A very interesting place to come and check out and have a look. As in the things to see and look at. Especially the view of the town from up top of the platform area. I enjoyed my visit
Claude P — Google review
Great display around the first nations people. I was moved by the Edie Ulrich story, what an amazing artist and story teller. So many aspects on display in this well curated museum. The team managing the display were wonderful to talk and a wealth of knowledge. A must see when going to Kalgoorlie.

We had such a wonderful time at the Museum of the Goldfields! The exhibits were fascinating and really brought the history of the goldfields to life. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful — they went above and beyond to assist us, and we felt very welcome throughout our visit. It’s a great place for both adults and kids to explore and learn. We’ll definitely come back again in the future. Highly recommended!

Park
Nature & Parks
Karlkurla Bushland Park Entrance is a 200-hectare natural regrowth bushland in Kalgoorlie-Boulder at Hannan. The park features over 2,000 trees and shrubs planted by community volunteers in 2000. Visitors can enjoy a 4km walking trail surrounded by native bushes, trees, and small plants. The park's trails are suitable for strolling, biking, or scooter riding as they are well-paved and relatively flat.
Kalgoorlie should be very proud of this wonderful adventure playground. I went there a few days ago with my grandchildren aged 10 and 3. There was so much for them to do. Their favourites were the big green slide and the flying fox. I have to admit Nana didn't enjoy climbing inside the wooden frame to ensure the safety of the 3 year old on the big green slide. An alternative way to get to the top of the slide would be good. We all loved the flying fox. The harnessed seat was great for both of my grand kids. The 10 year old used the sit on disk as well with no issues. My only gripe would be that there are no areas fully protected from the rain. We left early as we got soaked seeking shelter under the shade cloth. I note that there were BBQ facilities, nature walks, water play, climbing apparatus, musical instruments and a roundabout. Sadly the rain stopped us from trying these out. The flies were annoying so I would suggest wearing a fly net.
Jenny M — Google review
Nice pleasant stroll. Numerous people walking and riding. A couple of hours well spent. Although the path is wheelchair friendly, perhaps the stairs at the lookout are less so. Didn't notice any amenities or playgrounds, but numerous dogs were being walked responsibly. You could quite easily have a picnic, but not sure of a BBQ.
Crian M — Google review
Numerous routes could be chosen. I chose the shortest one (<1km). You could see bushes and natural scenes all around the walking path. The best walking park in Kargoolie for me.
LucyLiao — Google review
One of the best parks for exercise, such as hang and jog. There are also games for children related to minerals and another of archaeology.
Millaray A — Google review
Stunning. STUNNING park. If the last tree I ever saw was a Salmon Gum and the last park I ever walked in was Karlkurla (Garl-gu-la), I’d be pretty happy.
Marcus E — Google review
Great walk with wildflowers and wildlife. Lots of flies though, so be prepared for this!
Emily M — Google review
4 out of 5! In Kalgoorlie this is the best on offer in terms of walking park. Which is a bit sad for what is the largest mining town in WA. The good is that it is clean with multiple routes you can take, up to around 4km if you like or just a small loop less than 1km. There are a few drink fountains and toilets. At least one water fountain isn't working, so best to bring some water. The bad are the flies, very annoying and there are no lights at dark. Would be wonderful to install solar charging lights along the path so we can go walking later at night. Installing fitness equipment could also be something to think about to take this park to the next level.
Philip H — Google review
My favourite special morning walk when I visit Kalgoorlie. A special place to explore you can walk, run ,and learn about all the native plants and trees along the way. The full loop is 5kms . The viewing platform has fabulous views of the surrounding bushland . ❤️

Hannans North Tourist Mine offers an interactive experience for visitors, allowing them to mine their own gold, explore a haul truck, and visit an underground refuge chamber. The site also features period buildings and a recreated 1890s prospectors campsite. Originally a working mine until 1968, the Hainault mine was opened to visitors in 1972 by retired Kalgoorlie miners who conducted underground tours and rock drilling demonstrations.
Yes, an easy 5 stars for Hannans Tourist Mine. Very well done! The ladies were so helpful with enabling my dog to stay in their own kennel area. Shade, bed and water. This gave me good piece of mind. Thank you. The huge displays are great, from the massive trucks, that you can sit in, to the huts that people used to live in. I really enjoyed these. There are toilets around the place which are needed as you’ll spend over an hour here. Then there’s the gold panning and gem streams. I found some nice little pieces of gold but had to get down to the bottom of the ponds to find it. And it’s mucky water! 😂 The shop is great with souvenirs and ice creams available. Well priced too! Well worth the $18 entry and lovely staff, even the young ladies were super helpful and actually cared about their customers, great to see!
Paul S — Google review
This was a great place to learn about the Gold mining history. We loved it, we got to see the trucks they use currently which are huge and also pan for gold which was lots of fun. Great fun places and so much to see.
Tanya L — Google review
A lovely visit to historic open air historic mine museum. Well laid out so we could wander around and look at all the old homes, offices, machinery and facilities of life on the Goldfields. A map was provided so we could take our time to explore. Some of the attractions also had short videos to watch. The best experience was getting up close to the massive trucks that are used at the mines and being able to climb up into them which is something I've always wanted to do. The Chinese Garden of Remembrance , built in recognition of the Chinese miners and other immigrant prospectors who had come to this place was a surprisingly tranquil place in the midst of the mine site. We were not aware of this attraction before coming to Kalgoorlie and only noticed the reference to it at the 'Super Pit' Limit. So definitely a must do if you're out this way.
Marian O — Google review
Loved it. A step back in time to when the region was first opened up by gold mining! This area has an incredible gold mining history. We learned so much about our pioneers of this area including how much-needed water was brought by pipeline from Perth. Definitely worth a visit to learn more.
Jennifer R — Google review
Absolutely worth the visit!! The collection of machinery and mining huts, gear, drilling, and anything else mining-related that is interesting to learn about can all be found here. We got to watch the gold pour, which was phenomenal! Big shout-out to the volunteers Bill and Ray, who gave an excellent spiel with many facts and figures - thank you so much Bill and Ray 👏👏👏 The Gold panning was also a bit of fun, and the volunteer here was super helpful.
Jenny — Google review
Well worth a visit! Hannans North Tourist Mine is a great place to spend a few hours if you are interested in the history of the goldfields and gold mining. The centre is very well set up with original buildings and mining equipment from the day used in the displays. The young lady who was on duty today was so informative, knowledgeable and full of passion for her job was just the icing on the cake to a great morning in Kalgoorlie!
Liz N — Google review
Do yourselves and the kids a favour, head to Hannans Nth Tourist mine. Again, loved it. So much to see and do. $18 each for adults, check for the littleuns. The scale of some of these things is mind boggling. There is all round access for wheelchairs, including a ramp up to the deck of the big dozer. Not the dump truck unfortunately 😕 Crushed rock in most areas, and a little undulating, but manageable I think. The history is fascinating and just shows the hardship encountered as well as the ingenuity of the times. Without it all, where would we be now. Try your luck at some Gold panning while there. There is also a where's Wally type hunt for the kids to have a crack at.
Crian M — Google review
Well worth a visit and the $18 per adult entry. Got to sit in a huge wheel loader and climb a massive haulpak. Super interesting. Nice little gift shop. Tea , coffee and some snacks available. Good parking. Take some care on the road in and out - potholey. Remembrance garden pond could do with a clean out. You can pan for “gold” - I scored half a dozen gem stones but no gold. Great one for visitors! Staff were friendly and very helpful and informative.

On their first visit to the Goldfields Arts Centre, a family was impressed by its remarkable architectural design and the stunning exhibition of Aboriginal artworks in the foyer. The main gallery showcased a captivating collection of national portrait photography. The friendly staff added to the enjoyable atmosphere. This venue offers easy access and comes highly recommended for a fun night out. It is also an excellent place to watch shows, thanks to its comfortable and spacious seating.
First time visit the Arts Centre with family, impressive design for the architecture and beautiful display all the artworks of aboriginal at the foyer and National portrait photography at main gallery. The staffs are friendly.

Nice place. The art was not what I expected as it was all children's drawings but still very nice.

Free entry-Quite a variety of mediums used, all priced with a little bit about the creators and their reasons. Altho exibits are numbered its quite hard to follow the order on the program due to levels of building. The receptionist was very helpful however.

Local history museum
The Goldfields War Museum, located in the Goldfields region, showcases a rich military history with a collection that reflects significant involvement in various wars. Following an earthquake, the museum was relocated to the Boulder Town Hall and reopened in 2019. Visitors can explore the town's contributions during the Boer War, World Wars I and II, and beyond. The museum offers insights into local wartime experiences from pre-federation to modern conflicts.
Not open on Sun. Better check the opening time before you come.
LucyLiao — Google review
Small displays over three rooms about military presence in area from Boer War to recent. Some interesting items to view and history of local service people. Also exhibition on building the trans Australian railway. Worth a look.
Brian F — Google review
Quick visit on a whim. There is a bit of an exhibit in the main hall, but really the main War Museum part are the adjoining rooms. Entry is free but you have to pass reception on the way out again, so you'll probably leave a donation. There are a few exhibits but I think you'd be hard pressed to call it big enough to be a museum. Interesting local history.
Charlie J — Google review
Excellent and informative display. Do not walk past - go inside and visit!!! Entry by donation.
Roospud R — Google review
Small war museum covering some of the history of the Goldfield service personal from pre-federation to more modern conflicts. Interesting for a quick visit but won't take long to visit. Friendly and knowledgeable staff

Boulder Town Hall, constructed in 1908, is a striking example of Federation Free Classical-style architecture. The building boasts a prominent clock tower, wrought-iron balustrades, and pressed-tin ceilings. Once serving as a theater where Dame Nellie Melba performed, it still houses the rare surviving stage curtain by Phillip Goatcher.
If you love old majestic buildings ... this is one to see. Loads of history and a beautifully preserved moment in time. I really liked the staircases and the old council chamber.
Misslee B — Google review
Unfortunately, due to a slight breeze coming through cracks, the curtain couldn't be lowered. But an excellent War Museum with a wonderful display of poppies going up 1 set of stairs.
Sharyn N — Google review
Beautiful building built in 1908 year of Federation. So much history by Australian standards and Dame Nellie Melba once sang here with such a large crowd that they couldn't be assembled inside so she sang from a balcony in the dress circle to the crowd outside.

Nestled in the heart of Kalgoorlie, the Exchange Hotel boasts a rich history dating back to 1895. Originally constructed by the Wilkie Brothers, this iconic establishment quickly became a hub for gold miners and their families seeking entertainment.
Good pub this one. Hot yummy food, cold beer and nice looking skimpies to serve you. Also plenty of TV's around to watch the different sports. What else could a man want. The atmosphere is also good here and staff are nice and friendly
Claude P — Google review
Dropped in for a quick drink in a famous Kalgoorlie pub & the beer selection was good. Very friendly bar attendant looking beautiful in her 'skimpy' outfit. The bar itself had good atmosphere, interesting decor, a pool table in a historic building. Lots of parking available.
Peter E — Google review
Great vibe and energy! Always a good time here. The bar staff are friendly, fast, and know how to handle a busy crowd. Great DJ Tiffy. Always such fun night out.
Natalie P — Google review
The famous exchange, packed to the brim after dark with music and topless bar maids, but you gotta go there at least once! Not for the faint of heart or the churchies 🤣🤫 beautiful old style wood bar and surrounds.. even take a drink on the balcony
Sandy — Google review
We first went in for lunch, salt n pepper squid, chicken parmigiana, then went back for the roast at night, both meals were great. The chef's did a great job. I forgot to say gluten free for the roast because at lunch the gravy and condiments come in a small dish, but at night it was put all over. But the people were bloody awesome and took it back n gave me one without gravy, but some wine thing like gravy in a small dish on the side. Worth going in for drinks and a meal. The staff are friendly and helpful to. Grab a park where ever you can n go on in for a great meal n drinks.
Eric R — Google review
Had plenty of good meals here, but they often miss the small details. $3 for an egg on my steak tonight and they completely forgot it. Steak cost $64 total ($61 base) which is a sign of the times to be honest, but spending that much and missing out on part of the meal kinda sucks
John D — Google review
Great place to unwind and relax or head out for a night, plenty of TVs with multiple options to enjoy some sport while. Service is always quick and to the bar manager Luna. She’s unbelievable. Nonstop all night and was able to help me out with a small issue very quickly to resolve and her services are unmatched in Kalgoorlie

The gallery boasts a diverse collection of artworks from various local artists, including stunning paintings and traditional aboriginal tools like digging sticks and boomerangs. Wonderful collection of art with a large variety of artists and paintings. You can also find aboriginal tools here from a digging stick to a boomerang. Even if you don't purchase anything it's still worth the look.

Great aboriginal art gallery! The biggest I've seen. All items produced by local aboriginals. Art, dot paintings, didgeridoo, boomerangs, carvings. The owner runs this business on the side to help out local folk.
Jed F — Google review
Very disappointed, took a walk here after seeing it advertised in the visitor centre, only to see that it was closed. No opening times displayed either.
Sumaya P — Google review
It was closed with no notice on the door, looks like an earthmoving hire place

Definitely worth making the time to go in here on a Saturday. Curator Monika is awesome. Gorgeously chaotic stacks of artwork all over, something here for everyone.
L K — Google review
Wide variety of contemporary local indigenous art, paintings are in modern and traditional styles. The owner has direct links with the artists, who also work on-site. Something for every pocket, and good to know purchases support a needy local community.
Hugo L — Google review
Monika very knowledgeable and helpful on aboriginal art and artists. Her knowledge of the story and history behind each piece made the art more interesting. Great place to buy art and support local artists.
