Carvery
Toby Carvery Plymouth is a beloved family-friendly restaurant that specializes in serving delicious roast meats in a carvery-style setting. Open every day, this establishment offers an array of tender, slow-cooked meats alongside a generous selection of vegetables and classic British desserts. Whether you're stopping by for a hearty meal after a long day or enjoying time with loved ones, Toby Carvery ensures there's something for everyone on the menu.
I had an amazing experience at Toby Carvery! The food was fresh, perfectly cooked, and the roast options were plentiful. What really made our visit special were the staff—Troy and Matthew went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. They were friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Thanks to them, our meal felt extra special. I’ll definitely be coming back soon!

We love visiting Toby carvery in Plymouth with our children. Food is always hot and available on the carvery. We definitely will return again in the future. Also a shout out to our server Jess. She had such a warm personality and is a valuable member of the team. Thanks Jess you made the dining experience perfect.

Impromptu family breakfast on a wet Sunday. The staff member taking the orders at the bar was really helpful and friendly but I think we arrived during the changover from breakfast to lunch, waited a long time for veggie sausages to arrive. Food was good and worth the price 😊
Rich G — Google review
Came on Friday with family. It was very busy when we arrived but we had a great waitress Jess who genuinely went out of her way to ensure we had a good experience. She was very friendly, kind and informed us how everything worked - where we ordered our food from etc. Couldn’t fault her. The food was good, especially the pork, and we enjoyed our visit.
Nicola P — Google review
Had a fabulous time in the carvery today! Was served by Amber, a truly wonderful young lady, who went out of her way to make mine and my grandparents evening magical. Would recommend to anyone in the Plymouth area, and be sure to look out for Amber!!
Cassidy G — Google review
It’s been a while since we had carvery here. Went here for Sunday carvery today, and feel they have definitely improved and upped their game! With lamb beef pork Gammon available and great selection of veg, and was so pleased all lovely and “hot” and tasty. Also catered for my dairy allergy and steamed veg was prepared separately. The two male carvers today (14th sept) were amazing! joking and laughing with customers and seemed to be happy at their work, so nice to be served by “happy” people! Will definitely return and so glad we gave it another try!
Jacqueline G — Google review
We just turned up with a party of 5 and were told there wasn't any room in the restaurant but we could sit in the bar area which was still very pleasant. The Chef was really good and we even had a bit of a laugh with him. I must give a special mention to Lauren who served us our drinks. She was very welcoming and friendly yet remaining professional. A pleasure to talk to and a credit to the company.
Adrian P — Google review
Thursday night quiz night, we come as often as possible when I'm not working. Sadly there are things that are noticeably going down hill. The bar staff seem unhappy, the food needs to be topped up quicker, nothing worse than having your meat carved then having to wait for veg top up. Thank goodness Caryn is cheerful and welcoming at front of house, and Ross is a great quiz master, just need to address the other issues

Trago Mills is a massive shopping center located on the eastern side of Dartmoor, offering discounted garden, household, and homeware products. It's not just a store but also a fun day out for the whole family with a variety of attractions including a cafe and Family Fun Park with rides for all ages. The site also features independent franchises and shops such as Co-Op supermarket, Warrens Bakery, take-away outlets, fruit & veg stall, and visiting mobile butcher every Saturday.
Massive shop with everything under one roof for you home including garden centre. Few coffee and dining options and family entertainment activities. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Always had love/hate relationship with trago. They stock a vast range, but sometimes I still can't find what I want & all the prices aren't that reasonable. Since I last visited in march trago have had a good sort out, rearranged & a tidy up, new clean toilet facilities, it's looking so much smarter & less cluttered. I managed to buy floor vinyl I needed & a new jacket I've been after for a good price. Helpful staff. If you've never been into the garden centre to the very top it's a must, in all the years I've visited, this was my first around the beautiful gardens, I was amazed. Especially beautiful on a lovely day. Worth a visit. Sat outside with a cuppa whilst waiting for our flooring order.

I haven't been here for years but came with family my great nephew had lots of fun on the different slides and we all enjoyed our trip on the train aswell as looking around at the toys etc also we loved the railway set up inside and enjoyed our lunch in the cafe so definitely tempted to visit again

If you've never been before imagine 4 or 5 warehouses put together just to sell pretty much anything you can think of buying. There is also a separate warehouse for building supplies etc. It's big. Like park up and spend the best part of a day big. Cafes and concessions and toilets included. On top of all that, the staff are friendly and welcoming. Oh, there is also a mini railway 😂 and a full children's play park, what more could you need or want? They have it covered. We enjoyed it.

Yay.... trago Mills finally has trolleys!! If you like shopping you will love trago Mills. Its hard to think of things that trago doesnt sell. After youve shopped out, go grab some food at the many eateries or in the cafe. Lots of choice. We saw the peacocks again too.

Taylors in Tavistock is a trendy and unique eatery that offers a mix of delicious cuisine and a fashionable atmosphere. This contemporary venue has an eclectic and welcoming feel, combining the old with the new. It's a family-run establishment that serves inspired menus, homemade cakes, fresh coffee, and classic cocktails. The restaurant also offers afternoon tea with a fantastic array of loose-leaf brews and delightful bakes accompanied by upbeat playlists.
High quality food in a lovely atmosphere. This is one of the places to go for food in Tavistock. It's got a high quality menu, served with enthusiasm and great presentation. Book, as it gets full, especially on the weekend. You will not be disappointed 👍 Their tapas starters for the evening meals are well worth exploring. Mains are likewise an interesting variety of complementary flavours, with high quality presentation. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for - an investment your palate will appreciate!

Superb breakfast! Great menu and perfectly cooked! Love it here.
James A — Google review
I went to Taylors with friends to have lunch. Even though we came a little late at around 2pm, they still allowed us to order food. Their potato and leek soup was delicious and so was steak and ale pie. The service was very friendly and fast. This is definitely an excellent place to grab lunch.
Slava K — Google review
Waitress team friendly and polite. Some of the kitchen team need to remember that they work in an open kitchen and that customers can see them and (most apparent for this visit) that they can also hear them. Calamari starter was lovely and they have made it their own. Rib-eye steak lacked wow factor on first look and was backed up but being over cooked- medium well but was ordered medium rare 😔 Slaw was tasty but mushroom rubbery. Dessert was lovely and they did their best the make it a slightly bigger portion as we were sharing and to apologise for what was overheard in the kitchen. Would love to come back if the place and staff take a more professional approach to the job.
Georgia M — Google review
Taylor's serves delicious food and us situated in a great central location in Tavistock. The Sunday roast was cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. We also ordered wine and a delicious desert. The staff and owners are super friendly. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to locals and visitors.
Massimo B — Google review
A friend and I decided to meet at Taylors for lunch today and what a good decision that was! The restaurant changed ownership recently and it has improved considerably since then. In fact it's now my first choice for morning coffee or lunch in Tavistock. We both had the sourdough sandwiches and they were delicious and beautifully presented. I decided on the smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich and my friend had the ham, mustard, gherkin and tomato sandwich. If you're looking for a nice atmosphere in which to have breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner you really can't beat Taylors. The staff are friendly, the seating is comfortable and food is excellent! Thanks to all concerned. Give it a try and I'm sure you won't be disappointed!
Sue O — Google review
A good place to eat with kids as they have a larger-than-usual children's menu. And the food for grown-ups is very decent too. It's always easy to mess up a full English breakfast but theirs is spot-on. Friendly service too. Recommended
Christopher M — Google review
We had dinner for two this evening, some starters, drinks and mains with a bottle of wine. The starters calamari, white bait and scallops were very tasty, well cooked and seasoned. The roasted supreme chicken fulfilled all high expectations set by the name - very good. The best: Surprisingly there was no lamb on the menu, nevertheless the chef created a delicious lamb rump dish on request. Lovely! The wine was good, value for money overall very good. We liked the atmosphere upstairs the most. Thanks to the Taylors service team and chef!! An unforgettable experience, 👉highly recommended.

Waterfalls
Canonteign Falls, nestled in the heart of Devon's Teign Valley within Dartmoor National Park, is a hidden gem boasting both natural and man-made waterfalls. The falls cascade down ancient rock formations into tranquil lakes, creating a spectacular woodland scenery. This Victorian folly is surrounded by private parkland and features a magical fern garden with ancient tree ferns and a unique 11 ft Willow dinosaur.
If you're in the area, this is an absolute must-visit. The attraction is reasonably priced, very well maintained, and packed with fascinating historical facts along a thoughtfully designed one-way route. The walk takes about an hour and involves a fair number of steps and inclines, so it may not be ideal for those with limited mobility. However, for those who can manage it, the journey is incredibly rewarding. There are engaging features along the way, especially for children, making it a fun and educational outing for families. Before you begin, take a moment to relax by the café — the pond views are peaceful and scenic, and if you're lucky, you might even spot some baby ducks! The real highlight, though, is reaching the top, where the views of the waterfalls are simply breathtaking. Photos just can’t capture the scale and beauty of it. I would recommend booking in advance during the busier seasons to guarantee entry. Overall, a wonderfully curated adventure that combines nature, history, and thoughtful design. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful, varied and unexpected treat. This place has something for everyone. The climb up to the top of the falls is quite challenging for older slower limbs but I managed it fine. The view is spectacular. Then, after a good lunch break, we visited the Lower Lakes with artwork, poetry,m a henge and more. Beautiful. Well worth your time.
Nick E — Google review
Lovely to visit especially in the autum. Steep prices and to pay a pound for a map was cheeky. Restaurant also expensive. I do understand that they are an isolated location and have a large maintenance bill however. Would recommend but not for elderly people who cannot walk far if they want to see the waterfalls.
Chris J — Google review
We visited on Monday & what a wonderful experience. Fabulous staff, such a pretty, well cared for environment with beautiful views. lots of shaded woodland, cool ferns & the sound of thundering water, perfect for this scorching weather. The walk is not for cissies! We were so pleased with ourselves for reaching the top 🥳 (66yrs of age) but so worth the effort. We felt we earned our delicious Devon cream tea. I had the savoury, cheese scone - hot from the oven, with cream cheese and an onion marmalade with proper loose leaf tea in a innovative little teapot. My husband had the traditional with jam and cream, equally delicious. Then we strolled round the lovely gift shop before making our way home. Highly recommended. We used a Virgin Experience voucher given to us by our family. Next time, we'll go for the afternoon tea option with sarnies etc, they also do a doggy afternoon tea!! 😀 Amazing place....

What a lovely day to end our last day for a week down here. Fabulous walk up and around the waterfall. Make sure you have good walking footwear 'durable' not accessible by wheelchair or buggy, but some lovely views. Well posted with signs, entertainment for little ones, keep them entertained as well.

Amazing Great experience, Well kept and beautiful walk / hike to the waterfalls. Some steep climbs up pathways and steps Everything clearly displayed and sign posted Lots of rest points if needed. The lower lakes and grounds also worth walking around Lovely cafe for drinks and food Gift shop on way out Toilets located only on lower ground at entrance/exit near to Cafe Great value Would recommend
Victoria G — Google review
Dog Friendly! Lovely staff. Really nice cafe with great choices. Cream tea experience too. Walk is great with lots to see and read along the way up to the falls. Great for kids, once you walk back down you go through a big play park too.
Phoebe H — Google review
Such a wonderful place to spend a day. I visited with my family (ages ranging from 80 - 5), and we all managed and enjoyed the fantastic hike up to the top of the falls. It was probably more challenging than we expected but thoroughly worth the effort. Lots of cute and imaginative things and natural wonders to entertain the children on the walk, and a beautiful view at the top. The staff in the shop and cafe were so friendly and the food was tasty. We went during Oct half term and did the pumpkin trail. There were families walking alpacas during our visit and we got to stroke them and chat to the owners. Highly recommend this gem for all ages.

The Pizza Cafe, located in Newton Abbot, has been a beloved establishment for over twenty years. This relaxed and friendly licensed restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring smoothies, wraps, salads, Tex-Mex dishes, and artisan coffees alongside its specialty - high-quality pizzas made with fresh dough twice daily. The family-friendly eatery also caters to various dietary preferences with vegan and gluten-free options available.
Really enjoyed our meal here and the staff were both very efficient and also very friendly. It has a fantastic vegan menu with lots of great options. Food was fantastic and we would definitely come back if we’re ever in the area again

We a group of 5 visited pizza cafe. As always the food was amazing. Recommend to pre-book table since the place is always busy. They have amazing vegan menu and range of milk shakes. A must visit ! Very happy with the food and we had a great time.
Vaish J — Google review
I had really high expectations for the pizza but it was burnt and the large size (that cost over £16) didn't seem too large at all. The atmosphere was good though, especially for families and the staff were attentive.
Christopher R — Google review
Very nice. Good food at fair prices. Friendly staff though sometimes they get busy and you get forgotten. Home delivery is good. Been coming for years and perfect for family. It could be better but it's still good. You're paying for nice atmosphere and tasty looking pizzas. It's better than some but not all the local pizza joints. The price is fair so give it a go and book in advance.
Brian N — Google review
Recommend by a friend, we walked in and were served instantly with a smile. Has a table for 5, Food was brilliant, a large coke was a large coke.(Unusually). Pizza was great, light fluffy dough, will definitely be leaving spoons and coming here again. We couldn’t finish our pizzas and they gave us brilliant little boxes to take home. All in all very happy.

Yes, yes, yes ,yes. Saw this place last week whilst visiting a more formal restaurant nearby as and thought to give it a try. Phoned on the Friday lunchtime but all the 2 HR slots for 7 pm were filled, so we opted for one of the few remaining 5 pm slots. After all it is just a cafe. How wrong that sentiment is. The only thing cafe about this place is the name and the substantial cafe type table and chairs, and even then I've been in restaurants with less good quality seating. Met by one of three members of staff and seated quickly in a bright and happy atmosphere nicely decorated and clean. Offered the menu which is extensive. Starters, sides, salads, build your own pizzas, about 18 named pizzas, burritos, nachos, wraps and enchiladas as well as pasta options, baked potatoes etc. Yes my friends, places with a huge menu option choice often see chef fail to deliver consistent quality across all dishes. NOT HERE! A bowl of olives (enough for two) and a 'chips dips and garlic bread' were delivered. Three dips, probably a bag of nachos and the most delicious pieces of toasted and properly buttered bits of bread came in bowls on a plate. This was a good start. Note the red wine was super smooth (a Merlot at 5 pm!) and was perfect temperature. We went for two named regular pizzas (a medium in old money) and side order of crisscross fries tossed in MARMITE butter (it had to be tried, just once). They are different! It is clear there no previously made, bought in bases going on here. This was clearly authentic dough, with deep topping pizzas made to order and what a treat they were. Hot, melted crisp, fresh. I mean how many words can you use to describe fantastic pizza? Chef clearly had the nailed and my worries over the menu were completely dispelled when seeing other orders and hearing other customers talking about their food. Well done all staff involved. I wouldn't normally go for a dessert at this time of day. It's excessive but something caught my eye on the whole page.of desserts. Something called a 'Super 8'. I won't spoil it by trying to describe this sundae in words except to say 'heaven in a glass' for chocolate, and after 8 and mint ice-cream and chocolate brownie and chocolate sauce lovers................. WOW! An exceptional experience in a full cafe, eating fabulous food, great mix of young and old, nothing formal, everything prepared.abd cooked wonderfully and delivered in a professional and polite manner. A must visit if only for the desserts!
Roger T — Google review
I had a lovely lunch today at the pizza cafe! Food was delicious. It made me very happy to see that not only did they offer vegan mayos, but the portion was plentiful! Really cute little place. Servers were polite and friendly with a smile. Vegan friendly, but there’s something for everyone 😊

I ordered a gluten free pizza and a side. Service was good, sadly the food was not. The pizza base was like chewing cardboard and the side order of potato skins were burnt. The staff even asked for a tip when I was paying, which I found cheeky.

Buckland Abbey, a centuries-old abbey with an estate museum and gardens, is nestled among woodlands with marked trails. Founded as a Cistercian monastery in the 13th century, it was acquired by Sir Francis Drake after being bought from King Henry VIII. The property boasts highlights such as Drake's Drum, exquisite modelled ceilings, the Great Barn, fine Elizabethan gardens and woodland walks.
Really loved this National Trust property, probably my favourite, actually. Loved reading about Sir Francis Drake, it was fascinating. The grounds are lovely, very natural, and calm. There are some nice walks too, although we didn't have time to try them. Great cafe and some courtyard outdoor seating. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Julie T — Google review
A Must-Visit National Trust Gem! Buckland Abbey is an absolute treasure — easily one of my favourite National Trust sites to date. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by friendly and knowledgeable staff who clearly have a deep passion for the place and its incredible history. The highlight for many will be the original Rembrandt self-portrait, which is genuinely awe-inspiring to see in person. But there’s so much more to enjoy — the architecture of the Abbey itself is stunning, with layers of history that transport you back through the centuries, from its monastic beginnings to its connection with Sir Francis Drake. The tithe barn is an architectural marvel and really sets the tone for how well-preserved and presented the whole site is. Outside, the gardens are immaculate, full of colour and variety — especially the roses and well-labelled plants which were in full bloom during our visit. A real haven for plant lovers. We also stopped for a coffee and slice of cake in the café and were not disappointed — excellent quality and a perfect way to round off the visit. This place has it all: art, history, architecture, beautiful gardens, and a warm welcome. Whether you’re a history buff, art lover, or just looking for a peaceful day out in the countryside, Buckland Abbey is a solid 10/10. Highly recommended.
Jason W — Google review
This National Trust location is lovely and quiet. Car parking is free and it's a short downhill walk to the Abbey. There is disability parking closer to the entrance and toilets at the entrance too. I had no idea Sir Francis Drake had owned this place so it was a really interesting place to see. For those interested in art, there is a genuine self portrait of Rembrandt which will sadly be exhibited elsewhere for a while, luckily we saw this on its last day at Buckland. The story of the Rembrandt is interesting as it was sold to the National Trust from a local family wanting to pay off taxes and the family chose the from their own collection their most dislikes pictures, the Rembrandt being one of them. The family had been completely unaware of the significance of this picture as apparently the husband of the family had bought it without acknowledging it's value to his wife. Many years later the National Trust decided to have the picture checked for authenticity, when clarification eventually arrived it became apparent that this was a genuine self portrait from Rembrandt himself. As I said the staff at this location are very knowledgeable. There are fabulous grounds to walk around and a walled garden which is full of great produce. As with all National Trust locations there is a cafe serving all the regular food and drinks and the staff throughout the site are very knowledgeable and polite. Always a worthwhile visit 👍🏻

A lovely place to visit on a sunny day! Friendly staff everywhere and nice facilities. We had a savoury tea before heading off on the red route for a walk. The blue route is currently closed due to storm damage. It’s just so peaceful and relaxing here and not too far out of Plymouth.

What a wonderful place to visit, it is part of the National trust. It is steeped in History with beautiful gardens to compliment the Abbey and its surrounding buildings. There is disabled access in some areas. On site cafe and toilets within. Disable toilets also. Dogs are welcome but not inside the buildings. Service dogs are aloud inside, but always ask any of the super volunteers who can give you more information.
Arthur R — Google review
It was truly wonderful to experience such knowledgeable historical guides. The information they shared was incredibly enriching and painted a vivid picture of the past. The entire experience was made even more stunning by the breathtaking views. I extend my gratitude for such a well-crafted presentation of history. Overall, it was a fantastic day!

Interesting and well stewarded N.T. Attractive buildings and immediate formal gardens, plus extensive estate walks. Link to Sir Francis Drake makes it more special. Good teas. Several interesting popup shops.

Buckland Abbey is without doubt one of this country’s greatest national hero’s home. Sir Francis Drake, global explorer, and legal privateer of Spanish ships and colonies, Admiral of Royal Navy and defender of the nation. This Abbey and Drakes home is a great day out, and excellent for teaching some history of the development of both Great Britain and the early Royal Navy.

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Devon, Ullacombe Farm Cafe & Shop is a delightful destination for food lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. This charming spot has evolved from a simple honesty box selling fresh eggs to a bustling farm shop and cafe that celebrates local produce. Visitors can explore an array of tempting offerings, including creamy cheeses, refreshing ciders, delectable West Country fudge, and even doggie ice cream!
What a fab place. The deli has loads of options (and delish scotch eggs). We didn’t book so had to sit outside (will remember to book next time) but the outdoor space was perfect given the weather. Had a gorgeous cob salad and my wife had a jacket potato- perfectly done. We bought chops for dinner in the butcher and enjoyed meeting the animals. There’s a great little playground for toddlers and young children. We ended our visit with a tub of Dartmoor ice cream whilst looking at the views. A perfect little stop for lunch. Staff were friendly and helpful, food was served nice and quickly, coffee was hot…. Five stars.

Fantastic find with lovely staff. Great value for money. My only feedback is the afternoon tea for two is a little light on sandwiches and far to heavy on the cake. A huge warm scone and a massive slice of cake is too much but i would have liked an extra sarnie as they were lush. I did see some scone wastage from several people. Please please dont see this as a moan.
Motorhomingmadness — Google review
Absolutely amazing farm shop and cafe, an approximate five minute drive from Haytor on Dartmoor. Booking is recommended and advised as this place gets busy, and understandably so. They use local, or farm reared ingredients for a lot of items on their menu. If you're a fan of hot chocolate then try the mega - as it says on the menu, they are one for the gram. Fantastic food, served quickly - ideal!

First visit was April 2025. I'll come back another time. I had the scotch egg and it was both tasty and at a reasonable price. The farm shop is small, but has some good stuff. Cake selection looks epic.

Easy to find, plenty of parking, smaller selection of farm animals than we had initially expected, however you can see they were very happy and clearly well cared for. Farm shop had some nice finds, and great food options in the restaurant. We didn't eat here however as it was busy (sat lunchtime) plenty of seating outside too. Quite a lot for younger children, ride on tractors, play areas etc. nice butchers on site. We all enjoyed fresh milkshakes from the vending machine

Stunning day out in a wonderful woodland setting. Dozens of outdoor things to do for the kids and so much space to roam. Staff on hand to help when needed, all very cheerful. Plus a days entry gets you free reentry for a week! Amazingly good value. We would love to come and stay on site next time.

Would highly recommend for a day out. We had a fabulous day. All the staff were so fun and helpful. We especially appreciated Gracie's help on the high wires...and the lady who was inn charge of canoes was so fun too (didn't make a note of her name sadly). The extra activities were brilliant.. but the other section in the woods was so much fun. A huge adventure playground with lower wires,, rope swings, zip lines, fitness equipment. We will definitely be back!
Deborah D — Google review
We went on a day trip for the high wires (for the parents and the children - min age 8) and the canoes (for the children, me and my 80 yr old Mom). Really enjoyed these lovely grounds and the two activities. Great instructors with a really positive attitude.

By far one of the best camping sites I've been on. The facilities are great with plenty of private rooms. The playgrounds, the outdoor water activities and the BMX track are amazing and mostly free. We did bouldering indoors too. It truly is incredible and we will be back again next year!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Best Campsite Ever! We spent the weekend at Riverdart Country Park for Oktoberfest and honestly had the best time! The atmosphere was fantastic – great food made with locally sourced meat (from less than half a mile away!) and a lovely, friendly team who made everyone feel so welcome. The woodland play areas are a real highlight – perfectly maintained, full of adventure, and such a beautiful setting to sit back and watch your children play. Even the grown-ups couldn’t resist the zip lines! The camping pitches are huge, giving you loads of space to relax, and the shower facilities are spotless and well looked after. Everything about the park feels cared for and thoughtfully managed. We’d definitely recommend bringing wetsuits if you plan to get stuck into the Jolly Pirate ship or the jump pools.. Can’t wait to visit again – Riverdart Country Park really is the best campsite we’ve ever stayed at!

What a fantastic place. First time visitors and the first thing that strikes you is friendly and helpful staff. The site is huge and so many different things for our grandchildren to have hours of endless fun. We had what I would say was one of the very best full English breakfasts ever.
Campbell R — Google review
A country park geared to slightly older children with plenty of activities on the site. More than enough free activities included in your ticket along with the beach and water area. We went on a very wet day but none the less we got some nice hot pasties and a hot chocolates. Pay some extra and do the high ropes for example. Can’t wait to visit again.

Very impressed with the kids activities & amenities. Shame weather was not on our side this trip. Will revisit. Only negative is the laundry facilities. Although reasonable priced the washing comes out sopping wet (as if no spin cycle) & the dryer is as useful as a chocolate tea pot. I’m on 4th go & still no where near dry

The Phoenix in Chudleigh is fantastic! Wonderful welcome when we first entered the Pub, a huge thank you to the lovely Emma & Tracy. They are both very friendly and offer excellent customer service. We arrived at 7.55pm the kitchen finished at 8pm, however the chef was very happy to cook fish and chips, mushy peas, curry sauce & tartare sauce for 5 people. Beautiful decor, this is gastro pub quality dining in beautiful surroundings. Food is excellent absolutely delicious. Birthday meal with my family. We will return as staying 7 nights in Chudleigh on holiday. Highly recommended.
DAWN M — Google review
We stayed at the Finlake Holliday home and decided to have dinner the Phoenix as it had good reviews I must admit that I wasn’t a big fan of the place, the service wasn’t very attentive and the food was quite average My steak burger was quite dull and lacked any reach flavours and my daughter didn’t enjoy her spaghetti bolognaise and left most of it on the plate It’s a shame because the place has such a nice vibe to it, taking the food up a notch could make it some much better

Had a very nice Sunday roast here recently. New owners took over about a year ago and not been here since. Can report that the roasts are very very good indeed - I had a beef roast and my partner had the veggie roast. Very friendly staff, dog friendly and you can walk through the countryside from Decoy Park to get to the Court Farm which is a lovely 45 min walk either side. Highly recommend

This is an amazing Inn. Beautiful setting, nestled in the village close to thatched cottages and the unusual Church whose tower can be seen from the Inn car park. The service is excellent, very attentive team and very friendly. However it is the food here that is worth far more than the maximum 5 stars you are allowed to award. We have been twice so far, home made steak and ale pie first time, packed with delicious chunks of tender steak and this time I had home cooked ham salad, fantastic! We’ve booked again for Sunday Lunch, I suspect we are about to be wowed all over again!! Anyone staying at Dornafield Caravan and Motorhome park, this is a must visit if you are a foodie like us!

A Lovely Family Meal in Newton Abbot with a Few Small Details to Tweak We recently dined at a lovely restaurant in Newton Abbot and had a generally wonderful experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were incredibly friendly, especially the lady behind the bar who immediately acknowledged our 2-year-old son. It’s always nice when staff go the extra mile, and her kindness stood out to us. There was a bit of initial confusion when we were told we’d have to wait 15 minutes to be seated and were directed to the bar to order drinks. However, after our drinks were poured right in front of us, we were seated almost immediately. Within no time, we were handed the menus, and it became clear that the wait wasn’t going to be long at all. When it came time to order, I wasn’t sure what to get, so I asked our server for a recommendation. She suggested a dish featuring roast chicken with potatoes, carrots with bacon, and cabbage smothered in a rich white sauce and gravy. Although I can’t remember the exact name, the dish was absolutely delicious—comforting and hearty with great flavor. The gravy was super rich, though personally, I think it could have been mellowed out a bit. But that’s just a small preference! The presentation was also beautiful, served on a large white plate, making it even more appetising. The only slight downside was that the food was warm rather than piping hot. It wasn’t a major issue but worth noting. For our son, we ordered the fish goujons with chips and peas from the kids’ menu, and it was a generous portion that was presented very well. We also opted for dessert. My husband chose the brownie with honeycomb ice cream, which he enjoyed with no complaints. I went for the sticky toffee pudding, but unfortunately, it was quite dry and lacked enough sauce. A bit more sauce would’ve made it much better—it didn’t quite hit the mark for me, and I wouldn’t rush to order it again. All in all, it was a lovely meal with a cozy, kid-friendly atmosphere. We’d definitely return for another visit, though I’d perhaps skip the sticky toffee pudding next time!

First visit was recommended by a friend didn’t book but we luckily got a table as it was quite early would recommend booking now as most tables had reserved on them, food was very good highly recommend the fish and chips don’t have lunch as the portion is huge. We were in an alcove and wouldn’t want to sit there again as it was quite dark in the corner. Will definitely return.

My partner and I tried here as we had a rare child free night! I saw the reviews looked good and that it looked clean and cosy from various pictures. We were not disappointed! The place itself was lovely and welcoming, then the food and service was 10/10! We look forward to our next meal there!

Friends introduced us to this place and we are really glad that they did. Food is consistently delicious, the service is very friendly, and the restaurant itself is cosy and colourful. I've tried a few different dishes here and I have always been pleased with the authentic style and flavours. Also good to have eat in or take away options. Been to this lovely, cosy, friendly restaurant a few times now. MUCH MUCH better experience than the larger competitor a couple of doors up, and much cleaner too! Family run, very friendly. Our party usually has 2 vegans, and they are catered for extremely well, and adjustments made to dishes where necessary. The charming lady who looks after front-of-house is wonderful, and I believe her husband is the chef. The food is extremely good and the portions are massive.

Wonderful experience we dropped in on a Tuesday evening without a booking and were able to get a lovely table by the window. The service was incredible throughout with a friendly, attentive team who made us feel really welcome. And then the food. It was delicious we had starters (momo's & samosa) and then a traditional Indian curry (Ceylon) and a Nepalese "Everest" curry which was a mixture of lamb and chicken. The meat was delicious and definitely one to try again. Many thanks guys look forward to seeing you again next month!!

Nestled in the heart of Newton Abbot, Jacksons Fish & Chips has quickly become a beloved takeaway spot for locals and visitors alike. Renowned for its top-notch quality, this charming eatery offers an impressive selection of dishes that cater to all tastes, including a delightful children's menu. The star attraction here is undoubtedly the fish—always fresh, flaky, and cooked to perfection with a crispy batter that leaves you craving more.
Been having fish and chips from these guys on and off for many years. I hadn't had any for over a year due to living too far from it and had Haddock and chips last week. It was satisfactory but not to it's usual standard which I believed to be a one off. I contacted them via the web form and received a reply from Megane, the Manager who's response was fantastic, offering a replacement and an apology. I phoned the order in today and have just finished enjoying it.... Absolutely stunning!! That's how I remembered it! Truly the most superior fish and chips, but particularly the fish I have ever had anywhere....and I've had a fair few!! The fish is cooked to perfection, it is chunky, flavoursome, completely boneless and comes with just the right amount of batter which is never too oily or greasy. Excellent service, friendly staff and obliging Management...and exquisite food. Yes, you pay a little more here, but it is a million percent worth it! Thank you guys!! Looking forward to the next one!!

We went here today just to have a late lunch with drinks food was good, drinks not, unfortunately milk had turned for tea and my lager was warm. The staff need to make sure it's fresh milk and lager is chilled especially in hot weather, they need to check their refrigeration. 🤔
Kathryn S — Google review
The food was fine but why serve fairly decent food with cheap crappy sauces? This cheapens the whole experience. Also has to send back cold toast. Given another chance they then produced another slice of cold toast, but this one being the knobby end piece. 3rd time lucky. Staff were pleasant enough. Would rather go into a cafe thats focussed on food hygiene and people than pleasing those who insist on taking their bloody dogs everywhere with them. Thoroughly off putting stepping over dogs and having them beg around your feet. Seems to be the trend these days to be "dog friendly" but in my view its pathetic. I dont want to share a dining space with a horse, a cow, a pig or a dog. There's no difference. None should be present.

Nestled in a charming small village, The Gateway Restaurant is truly a food lover's paradise. This delightful eatery offers an array of dishes that are bursting with authentic flavors and meticulous attention to detail. From the starters to the desserts, every bite is a testament to the chef's skill and passion for cooking. The vegan options and tapas-style Indian dishes stand out for their freshness and vibrant taste, showcasing high-quality ingredients that make each meal memorable.
What a foodies delight. This was one of the best meals I've eaten. It was such a treat to find it in this lovely small village. The authentic tastes and small detail were incredible starter, main, sides, desert and all the little extras couldn't be faulted. Sam you're such an excellent chef. Laurie is front of house and it's so lovely to walk into a space and feel so at ease and welcome. There was no ask too small, so friendly and fun to chat to. Sam and Laurie are the perfect duo - combination of talent, kindness and atmosphere makes it a must go to place. 5 stars all round. Thank you, we'll see you soon on our next trip back.

Excellent meal, great food and the best Ramen I've ever had. Even though short staffed the service was friendly, polite and welcoming. A fantastic part of our holiday, highly recommended.

The food here was amazing. We had the vegan options and the tapas Indian dishes were fantastic. So much flavour in each one, you could tell the ingredients were fresh and a lot of care had gone into preparing the food. We had a great chat with Sam and Laurie too, who are obviously both very passionate about ensuring the whole dining experience is great. Such a great wee place with a lovely cosy vibe. Cocktails are great too. Can't wait to go back

Wow wow, absolutely LOVED this restaurant. The attention to detail, delicious flavours and friendly staff. I'm vegetarian and they completely tailored the set menu for me. My fav dish was the mushroom and dumpling soup... fusion of flavours, incredible. I've been lucky enough to travel quite extensively through Asia and it was so nostalgic all the amazing flavours. Thank you :)

A delightful meal last night, can't believe we found such an amazing place. The food was all delicious, good value, the service excellent (and friendly and non-pretentious) and the chef is of such a high standard and really knows what they are doing. A real party for the taste buds, highly recommended and will be going back for more - save me a seat!

Very cute spot for a cream tea. You need to book in advance for the full afternoon tea experience, which we did not do unfortunately...but the table next to us had and it looked amazing !! We got the last table in the place (they had to turn a few groups away because they place is tiny, and fantastic). It was the best savoury scone I’ve ever had. They are also super generous with their portions. For two of us to leave full and happy, it came to about £10 !!! Highly recommend this place

The Old Pottery Restaurant, located on Pottery Road in Bovey Tracey, offers a delightful dining experience. The restaurant is well signposted and easy to find with ample parking. The atmosphere is spacious yet cozy, set within a beautiful building. Guests are warmly greeted by friendly and polite staff who are knowledgeable about the menu offerings. While the main menu isn't extensive, the dessert options are plentiful and hard to choose from.
Went here after climbing on Dartmoor, highly recommend it. Super warm and cozy with a great range of vegan and gluten free foods too. It's tucked away in the house of marbles which was a nice surprise, we didn't expect to be going to a mini museum too. Great access and loads of parking, staff were wonderful 👍

I visited The Old Pottery restaurant during the week with my granddaughter, who is 26. I had previously booked a table as it does sometimes get very busy. We also had my daughters little dog with us. We were welcomed and shown to our table in the conservatory area. The staff are amazing! They are so very helpful, and even little Daisy dog got a biscuit. The food was delicious and freshly cooked and the portions are incredibly generous too! I would highly recommend a visit but, so as not to be disappointed, book a table first!

Fantastic hidden gem in the middle of an old pottery factory (maybe not so hidden for the locals). Our waiter, Tom, was absolutely delightful and incredibly helpful. Big shout-out to the chef for wowing our taste buds with delicious vegan dishes. The standout of our evening was the polenta ragout with wild mushrooms. The asparagus and tomato tart was also incredibly tasty. I topped off my culinary experience with a towering brownie cheesecake that made me leave this place a happy chap.

Unfortunately I was very disappointed with my lunch here recently. It is very poor for vegans - only two options on the menu a main (a Dahl) or a baguette (hummus and chickpea). As I didn’t want a big £16 meal at lunch time this left just the baguette. It was large, but lacked any flavour and was very dry. I couldn’t really taste the hummus as it was quite sparse. The coleslaw on the side was nice. Sadly my coffee tasted awful and I struggled to drink it - I got a cup of tea with oat milk after which was fine. The cakes however were better - two vegan options (these weren’t marked, you have to ask) and the cakes were very large portions especially for the price. At least the lunch ended better!

Wow! Such a nice charming relaxing place to eat..and the food is fantastic..and I am a fussy one when it comes to quality of food. The prices are the best you'll find around...and the desserts are well priced and big!

Visited for the country fare. We're accustomed to heckington Show our local. But the show here was lovely. Obviously smaller but loved everything on offer from animals to the classic cars. Plenty to see and do and plenty of places to spend money. Easy to find the parking and all staffed and directed well. Loved the pony display from the wonderful Dartmoor Hill Pony Display Team.

Horse racing is not my thing at all....... But what a beautiful location and conditions for a lovely day celebrating my uncles 70th birthday week! Great staff all over the location and I enjoyed my day (28th May) and the 6 races......... Especially as igot 2 winners! Something else ticked off the list though and would highly recommend it to race fans as it really is a nice location!

My first time ever at the races and even though the weather was horrid, I had a fantastic time. The que to enter went by quickly. There is a free shuttle bus from the train station to the race grounds which was very handy. Plenty of restrooms, bars and food stalls.

Really quite shocked by the behaviour of the flea market organiser. Travelled a long distance to be met with rudeness and condescension. A little kindness, understanding and accommodation goes a long way - shame the organiser didn't exercise any of this. Rest of the staff were quite the opposite. Our first visit to the flea, but definitely won't be returning.

Excellent day out racing a little expensive for a small course but still very enjoyable. Great views you can chat to trainers and jockeys if you get a chance and even the locals are friendly. I would highly recommend. They also do antiques fairs here several times a year. Plenty of stalls and plenty of antiques and collectibles for sale.
Hippy C — Google review
A really fun day out and definitely a good experience. There's lots to be offered while you are there such as bars, a restaurant, ice cream vans and at times there is a tent that does pull pork rolls. Out of the different meets I've been to myself Fridays are definitely the busiest and mid week ones are quietest; by this I mean if you like a drink it's definitely easier to go on a wednesday. There is a dress code of smart casual and if you want to go to the restaurant you're not allowed to wear ripped jeans only smart and no trainers, only smart shoes. It is pricey there and can get more expensive depending on how many bets you lose.

Pub
We stayed at Hennock Hideaways and dined at The Palk Arms on a Tuesday evening. The meal was fantastic, featuring delicious ham, eggs, chips, and peas with generous portions of thick-sliced ham. The pub itself is located in a charming village and offers top-quality beer. The owners were welcoming, attentive, and friendly throughout our visit. Additionally, the pub is conveniently situated just a short 2-minute walk from the campsite.
Fabulous roast pork lunch today. Loads of food for a regular size. 3 thick chunks of pork, stuffing, 6 different types of veg, 3 large roast potatoes, delicious thick gravy and a massive Yorkshire pudding. Unfortunately I couldn’t eat it all. Super price at £13.50. Thank you so much. Great 80’s music too! Would definitely recommend and would love to come back again. Super olde world pub atmosphere.

We had a Sunday roast and it was so disappointing. The meat was really dry, the roast potatoes were rock hard and tasted old, and the veg was bland. The Yorkshire pudding was fine. I did mention that the roast potatoes were uneditable but the waitress just said "oh are they" and took the plates away. Such a shame, the reviews from other people were so good, maybe they had something different to eat.

Twelve Oaks Holiday Cottages is located on a 250-acre working farm specializing in Charolais beef cattle. The caravan park and luxury holiday cottages are situated by the River Teign, offering a peaceful escape from city life. Guests have praised the excellent service and facilities, including clean showers and a well-stocked field kitchen. Visitors staying at the cottages appreciated the cleanliness and thoughtful welcome pack of muffins, eggs, and milk.
A lovely family ran park with amazing panoramic views. We stayed in Beech Lodge and it was fantastic. The welcome gift of fresh eggs from the farm and home baked chocolate cupcakes was a lovely touch; it’s not often you get that these days! The lodge itself had everything you need for a comfortable stay, although could do with a bit of an internal refresh. All the staff encountered on site were friendly and welcoming and gave us that family ran feel. It was lovely to see the horses turned out and in every day too!! Thank you for a lovely stay! We’ll definitely be back!

Went here on holiday with the family and I couldn’t fault it enough, everything within short travelling distances. The lodge was outstanding especially with a washing machine to get your washing done before you return home. Onsite trailer kitchen had some belting foods, and a very well stocked shop. Definitely booking here again in the near future. Thanks Andy and Clare for a great holiday.

We stayed in Apple Blossom in Aug 2024 for 7 nights which was great and just what we expected. So this year we decided to book again and we stayed in Cherry lodge Aug 2025 for 7 nights which was excellent. The lodge is high spec with outstanding views. The site is very quiet and lovely and clean Andrew and Clare take great pride in keeping the site in good order and are very approachable and helpful. The field kitchen is still outstanding with great food at reasonable prices. The shop was well stocked and the swimming pool was lovely and warm. My son and I love the fishing which again is well looked after all fishing caught where in excellent condition the bailif that visits regularly to check on things is very nice and gives you tips and history of the fish. The pond is also otter fenced and gated to protect the fish from potential otters. Before we left I took advantage of the 5% discount and booked two lodges for Aug 2026 I thought I would treat my Son and his partner and grandchildren because I know they will love it. Thank you for a lovely holiday Rob & Julie

Stayed on a serviced pitch which was large and well layed out. Single facilities building with very good toilets and showers. Field kitchen serving food. The team were welcoming. The location is good as Torbay resorts, Dartmoor, and Dawlis are all within 30 mins. WiFi is available at 9.99 per week per device.

Stayed for 1 week in Ash Lodge, greeted with a stunning, huge, clean lodge, doggy treats, poo bags are a nice touch as was the delicious aunties chocolate cup cakes along with some milk, missed the eggs lol. An issue with the door handle was resolved immediately and without fuss, the working farm is spotless and very well looked after , the shop sells pretty much all you need . Didn't sample the field kitchen food but looks and smells amazing. Easy to drive to Torquay, Teignmouth, Newton Abbot and Dawlish along with Brixham , we did have hit and miss weather but that certainly didn't distract from the amazing week. Lovely deep bath and a huge walk in shower was ideal for my disabled step daughter, wrap around decking ensured the dog stayed safe and he loved watching the horses every night being moved around. Dishwasher , washer dryer and a great addition in the Weber Broiler out on the decking, thses lodges are very well spaced apart and the surrounding grounds are great to walk the dog. Absolutely no criticism at all, one thing I think could be added is the addition of some old towels for the dog and maybe a few throws incase of dirty paws, and I only say this as to keep the lodge as fresh and new looking . Loved it and will be back . WiFi was brilliant and the tv has the usual apps to log into

Coffee shop
Cafe
Nestled in the charming town of Newton Abbot, Coffee#1 is a delightful local chain that offers an inviting atmosphere to enjoy gourmet global coffees, refreshing juices, and tasty snacks. Established in 2020, this cozy spot proudly sources its coffee from No. 1 Coffee's roastery located on the northern edge of Dartmoor in Okehampton. With a diverse selection of single-origin brews and house blends available online, there's something to satisfy every coffee lover's taste buds.
A spacious coffee shop that offers outdoor seating as well. Great selection of cakes and coffees. I tried their Battenburg cake with the recently unveiled cold froth iced cappuccino. The cake was amazing, not overpowering with marzipan flavour, but just right - a surprisingly light cake. Whilst I found the cold froth underwhelming, it's always good to try new flavours. As per their more famous competitor in town they offer a loyalty card. Of the two coffee shops I think my loyalty would be found here.

Their espresso (Honduras single origin) was really good and the selection of paninis very tasty! Sorry but I first judge the quality of coffee and the way they brew it and I have to say the Starbucks, Costa etc of this world make awful coffee.. well done Coffee#1!
Nick B — Google review
I used to love this coffee shop when it first arrived, but it’s really gone downhill lately, unsure why. The last few visits have been poorly served (no real interaction), on wonky trays or sometimes no tray. Today things peaked when I was served tea in a stained, broken teapot, on a wonky tray, in a cup with no saucer or teaspoon. This was accompanied by a piece of stale Victoria sponge cake. I’ll stick with the more ordinary but also more consistent larger chain on the high street.

A message for management: Rather than supporting the big chain coffee shops we opted to go to this indie coffee shop for lunch. Unfortunately our experience wasn't as we hoped and the reasons can all be summed up as "lack of training". The queue was long, the staff slow. Then when we did get to the front of the queue and place our order once our money was taken we were blanked. No instructions. So we sat. Our drinks got called out so we went to collect those and the staff member told us we forgot our table number in a short snappy tone, given we had to jump up for the drinks and hadn't been told of their system with table numbers how were we to know? My paperwork got destroyed on our table due to it being wet and no staff having wiped it. The food then arrived and my partners was cold in the centre. If this place expects to survive and thrive you need to spend proper time determining your processes and instructing and training staff properly.
Dread G — Google review
Stood waiting to be served for 10 minutes. We were the only people waiting! 1 lady was more worried about filling up the fridge with sandwiches that were already pretty full. I ended up walking out as I was going to spend my money in there with such bad service. Never going there again.

Specialty Museums
Newton Abbot Town and GWR Museum is a local museum that delves into the town's history and its association with Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Great Western Railway. The museum showcases artifacts related to the Templers, including a remarkable 16th-century oak overmantle acquired by George Templer, as well as information about notable Newtonians like John Lethbridge. Visitors can also see an original section of Brunel's innovative Atmospheric Railway and a preserved signal box.
What a surprising visit! Our travel plans were canceled when we arrived in Newton Abbot so instead of waisting the trip I found this museum on Google and decided to walk in the rain to it. It was a lot of fun for the kids with a ton of history on the town and the rail line. I recommend taking the time to check it out as we spent a good deal of time looking and reading. They have interactive games and history hunts for the kids as well.
8 8 — Google review
A fantastic free museum with lots of activities for children and extremely friendly staff. Our kids particularly enjoying operating the signals and searching for the birds scattered throughout the museum. We spent just over an hour there and could have spent longer if the children weren't starting to get hungry.
Steven H — Google review
This was a brilliant museum to visit, with exhibits about the history of the Great Western trains across the Devon area. Info is shown regarding the integration of signalling on the network and there is a full scale signal on display, levers can even be pulled like one would do in a signal-box! Worker's gear is intriguing to see and old local rail items are preserved, including the holiday books showing good reason to visit Devon particularly. The model steam train was fabulous as was the atmospheric railway carriage that can even be pushed along using air in the replica, really interesting to know this used to run using salt air but became too pricey!
K. P — Google review
This museum is a great asset to this town and it should be more advertised. The building itself is a fantastic place to admire. The exhibition is a wide ranged topic from railway, through insects to the Polish community in the town. A nice place to visit, would definitely benefit from a cosy cafe and a better range of handcrafted gifts.
Ewelina G — Google review
Wow! An excellent museum and you are made very welcome by the very nice staff at the desk. We didn't have any great expectations but what a great experience. From local history to working full size signal box leavers and full size railway flag type signals that really works. Also war time and how it affected the town. All this and more, a really great place to spend an hour or two. You will not be disappointed. Also it's FREE. Congratulations on a job very well done.

Great place to visit. It’s small but have things to do like changing the railway signs and bells. The staff are amazing and friendly. They even tell you some information

This is a great, newly opened museum- full of local archive, interesting stories and fun interactive exhibits. If you're in to trains (little or big ones) the GWR collection is also well worth a look. All of this and a mini Madge Mellor's on the 1st floor landing (albeit a coin-op version). Definitely a good place to visit and a thousand times more interesting than ASDA.

Went in this evening for some tea and there was a young girl behind the counter. Her customer service was outstanding. I can't fault her. I had large cod which was delicious and chips which were standard (not a bad thing) my partner had Jumbo battered sausage which was nice. The highlight though was definitely the customer service from the young lady phenomenal 👍

Chicken burgers are excellent! Genuinely brilliant, but the battered sausages are disgusting! Just had one tonight and it’s like pink foam inside, horrible texture and virtually no flavour, obviously extremely cheap, chips were a bit poor too, portion size on a large compared to a shop in buckfastleigh are tiny, and they aren’t crispy, just pale and in many cases pretty raw still in the middle, curry sauce was good though! Would come back for the chicken burgers but everything else we had tonight was pretty poor

Always good food but a shame about the service!! When spending over £100.00 for a fish supper for a group of hungry campers, after ordering and paying, numerous customers are served in between - then we were told items were out of stock. In between the 3 consecutive orders the elapsed time is C45 mins, (No means of warming up), and other customers were served between our orders!!! When I politely asked, "What items are we are waiting for?" The reply was shouted ... "It's a busy night for a Tuesday, can't you see that that?" "Why have you asked me 3 times, OK, I'VE MADE A MISTAKE, I FORGOT THE CHICKEN GOUGONS!!! I didn't ask 3 times. As I'm not psychic, i didn't know what the delay was... Maybe an, "I'm sorry for the delay, however due to the unexpected influx of orders I've forgotten one of your items. Would you like to wait?" Would have been acceptable. I have never been to a place so rude so from experience please avoid

Me and my other half came here for the first time yesterday evening and it certainly won't be our last. The food and service was absolutely superb and we will definitely be repeat customers! Coming in at 8pm we weren't sure what to expect (Usually in a chippy, you tend to get the dribs and drabs at the end of the day that have been sitting out for a while don't you?!) - but the fish and chips were still fresh and I just wanted to say what a great job the staff were doing there. We are very much looking forward to our next visit; I'm not going to lie, it was that good that we are tempted to go again tonight!

I've always been a fan of family run restaurants so when we needed to have breakfast while we were on holiday we chose Harvey's and we were not disappointed. Called ahead to reserve a table as we were a party 8 and we got there on time. The 2 lovely ladies (sorry I did not catch your names) were absolutely amazing. Took the time to take our various orders (there are multiple ways to order the same breakfast, trust me!) and the food and hot drinks came promptly. Even our 4 kids in tow had a great time. Only marked down on atmosphere / service due to the rude and unhelpful remark from the male owner about moving one of the chairs for my mum who is disabled. This after we had spent good money on breakfast and then returned for cake and coffee! My mum was in pain from and needed a more comfortable chair. She was very upset. Won't return in a hurry.

My new go-to! The cafe is very homely inside, the staff are lovely and friendly and the food is fantastic. They also have a gorgeous spaniel who is the cherry on top of my visits to Harveys! I usually get take away but sit and wait for it to be prepared which i struggle with in lots of places due to noise and bright lighting, but Harvey’s is a really nice place to be

Came with my friend for a coffee and a slice of cake. We were served by a lovely lady who was very attentive. The hot beverages were a really good standard and the cake was extremely delicious! We sat towards the back on the sofa’s and felt relaxed and welcome. Cant wait for the weather to be better to sit in the outside area.

Room Escape Games
If you're looking for an exhilarating adventure, look no further than "Escape The Game." Nestled in a vibrant area filled with attractions like the Dartmoor Bookshop and the River Dart Country Park, this escape room experience is perfect for families and friends alike. I recently had my first taste of escape rooms here, booking two different challenges—'Escape the Bell' and 'Party House'—for a group of 12.
Leanne was able to accomodate us at short notice for our 16 year olds birthday. We had never done an escape room before and honestly this was a great first time experience, so reasonably priced and so much thought and effort goes into these rooms! We had a great time, although picked the hardest room, Leanne was on hand to help with clues and we managed to escape! Would highly recommend and will definitely be back to try a different game!
Sowf K — Google review
Would highly recommend. First time doing escape rooms. Really easy to book, left a phone message and Leanne was very quick to call back. Booked 2 different rooms 'escape the bell' and 'party house' for a family of 12. (3 kids and 9 adults) We split into two teams, 6 in each room and raced to see who could get out first. We all had a great time, working together as a team and lots of fun and laughter. Leanne is a great host, warm and friendly and up for a laugh... and helps you along if you get stuck with any clues, making for a great and positive experience. Of course, the kids were extra delighted when they found out that had escaped their room first! Was great to see how chuffed they were and everyone had such a good time they said they would definitely be up for playing again. Thank you Leanne!

My girlfriend and I did the house party room today. The room was set up well, exactly as you’d expect with the theme and story. Puzzles worked well and were fun. Leanne was a lovely host who had obviously put a lot of thought and hard work into the room. Would recommend :)

Me and my friends went here a few days ago now for my birthday celebration we played the bad fellas escape room. We all had an amazing experience and enjoyed ourselves. We really loved the story however, our only critiques are that there were a lot of math based puzzles and that the room we were in doubled as the party room so we wasted some of our 60 minuets working on locks that weren't for the room we were doing. We had a lot of help during the puzzles which we didn't always need. We feel that if there was less math problems and we knew some of the locks weren't needed for the room we were doing and we were given clues rather then being told the answers then we would have had more fun. Overall we really loved the story and had tons of fun.

We had a lovely time here. We were a bit frazzled when we arrived because of traffic, but the lady who greeted us was super friendly and welcoming. She also provided help and guidance during the game - and allowed us to bring our dog. A great activity.

Amazing experience , loved the saved by the bell theme . Bought back memories from my childhood! Our little girl did this with us as her first escape room . Leanne was very helpful throughout giving us clues if we needed them. Great experience and will be back next year when we return on holiday .

Green Hill Arts, Moretonhampstead, Devon, is an absolute gem of a gallery. So lucky to have it for many reasons: It celebrates, supports and showcases the work of local people. The space it offers is used so effectively. It is a welcoming place and has a very special ambience. Located at 9 Battle Road in the Heathfield Industrial Estate of Newton Abbot, this showroom specializes in both retail and wholesale distribution of kitchen essentials. Customers rave about the exceptional service they receive; staff members go above and beyond to showcase available options—even those tucked away in the warehouse!
Excellent company... price matched two appliances and delivered within a week, even though they were not in stock at store! Very courteous delivery men, arrived within the advised 2 hour time slot (rang on the morning) and took away all the packaging and old appliances and placed the new fridge and freezer in situ, levelled and ready to switch on in 4 hours. Absolutely the best service I have encountered. Highly recommend Sparkworld 5*****

Purchased a Neff oven online at a competitive price. Excellent service: reassuring to get a phone call from shop to confirm purchase. Delivery was excellent. Courier very communicative, great tracking service & call before on day of delivery. Men even carried oven into house & very professional. Highly recommend this company.

Needed a replacement washing machine in a hurry and decided on a Beko 8kg 1400rpm one. All big shops - AO, Curry's, John Lewis, Argos etc - had for £40 less, but delivery extra. Then found Sparkworld price match pledge and got delivered for same total price the next day, 2 days quicker than the others. Excellent service, well delivered, and good machine. Only criticism was not all staff knew about price match, so make sure you get the boss! Well recommended!

Excellent service from sales to delivery and installation. I was called on the morning of delivery to confirm delivery time slot. The drivers arrived bang on time. Two really nice gentleman. Disconnected and installed new cooker with no issues at all. Old appliances taken away and all packaging removed. Everything was left nice and tidy. I would highly recommend Sparkworld.
Denise S — Google review
Very happy with the service I have received from Sparkworld Devon. In the showroom they went out of their way to show me the options available to me (even when it involved stock that was away from the showroom floor and deep in the warehouse). When I had to change my order (an oversight on my part) and add installation after the sale, they were fast to act and very accommodating. It's hard to know how the big box shifters could ever be this good. This is exactly the kind of service you want when you're spending a lot on stuff that you'll be using day-in, day-out. Highly recommended.

I can't fault the service from this local company. After a very poor experience from an international online retailer, I turned to Sparkworld and wasn't disappointed. Great to speak to a human too. My 'phone call was answered immediately and politely. When my fridge was delivered, the two employees kindly unpacked it inside my house whilst I checked it hadn't been damaged [that was the issue with the online retailer]. Sparkworld is an example of how things should be - well done!

Nestled in the picturesque village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor, The Old Inn is a delightful pub steeped in history, tracing its roots back to the 14th century. With its charming ambiance characterized by exposed beams and rustic stone walls, it offers a warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for relaxation. Guests can indulge in an impressive selection of local ales and ciders while savoring classic pub dishes made from locally sourced ingredients.
Proper pub! Plus dog and child friendly. We visited twice while staying nearby on holiday, once for Sunday roast and again for Thursday evening. On both occasions the food and service was exceptional! Generous portions of proper homemade food, with so much choice they really do cater for everyone. Everyone who worked there were so welcoming, friendly and were brilliant with the dogs and keeping our young child entertained. The pub itself was very clean, with lots of character. We hope to visit again if we’re ever passing
Ellen S — Google review
We were staying nearby and were starving. Got there not long after it opened. I would say the menu was traditional pub grub...ham, egg and chips, fish and chips, homemade steak pie etc along with a specials board. My problem is that when I see homemade steak pie on the menu nothing else matters, it's my yardstick to how good the food is. My son is the same with ham and chips, this one came with both egg AND pineapple, that's a good start. After a chat, my wife went for fish and chips as we were near to Brixham and we agreed to go halves. There was a bit of a wait for the food, around 45 minutes, but I'm guessing it was because we ordered as soon as it opened but when it came the meals were all piping hot and remained hot throughout the meal, you can't say that very often. The ham was thick, proper ham and the yolk orange. My pie was stuffed with meat and the gravy was👌🏼The fish was also very good. A few ciders later we left. So that's it, really good ingredients cooked very well. We'd have no problem returning. Enjoyed the food that much that I only took a photo once I'd nearly finished and was having a break.
Andrew L — Google review
Really friendly welcome and dog friendly too. Turkey and beef roast were both excellent. Good sized carpark with good access and outside garden atea. Will definitely be back when we're in the area.

We visited here for a friends 60th, table for 10. Despite an initial wobble regarding the booking, they resolved the problem quickly and the service was fantastic. Food was brilliant, Sunday roasts. The highlight for me being gluten free Yorkshire Pudding. Thank you again for turning it around.

Food was superb, very tasty and a good range. We had the naked burger (basically burger without the bun), comes with chips, mushrooms, bacon, onion rings and salad. Every part of it was really nice. Recommend their home cooked crumble - delicious. Staff are super friendly and welcoming. If you are in the area and looking for somewhere to eat I would not hesitate to recommend this place.
Andy P — Google review
We were staying nearby on holiday and popped in for a drink one evening and dinner the next. Lovely local pub, dog friendly and they have 2 dogs too. The more lively one was behind the bar, probably a good thing as our dog wants a game with every other dog he meets! The staff were really friendly and it had a nice family run vibe. Some nice beers on tap and the food was really flavourful, better than I expected from a pub. We particularly enjoyed the homemade deserts. Good size portions and great value for money. Definitely recommend visiting!
Chrisy P — Google review
One of the best Sunday roasts and no mistake! What a brilliant British pub this place truly is. It's hard to decide what was better, the food or the service, as both were top shelf excellent. Actually the best bit may be the crumble and custard, Shakespeare would fail in describing its excellence. I really hope to go back soon, Hoorah!!

Bakers Park, located near the center of Newton Abbot, is a beloved destination for dog walkers and nature enthusiasts. The park offers vast green spaces, pleasant walking paths, and access to woods and meadowland that are part of the National Trust property Bradley Manor. Visitors can enjoy multiple football fields, a children's play park, tennis courts, and public toilets within the park.
A find of unexpected pleasure. Be warned there is very limited parking here and the c/p is currently closed for redecoration. Walking from the car park along the signed pathways took us through the meadow and alongside the river Lemon in full flood. A little muddy but no one was wearing sandals. Continuing alongside the river took us over a small.bridge and up into the woods. A more natural environment full of wildlife. (Scratch off kingfisher and a dipper from the list of things seen). A circular route brought us back down to the river meadow and in to the park again. Lots of activities in the play area although I was disappointed at some previous dog walkers and their waste. A wonderful spot for a leisure stroll or a more strenuous workout if required.

Spacious recreation park on the Ogwell Road from Newton Abbot, it has limited car parking so aim to get there early on busier weekends. There is a small kiosk serving hot and cold drinks, snacks, ice-cream etc... And public toilets are located in the same building. There are two caged tennis courts and a basketball court, all free to use. Huge grass area for walking dogs, picnics and walking... There is a kids play park near the entrance which is well maintained, with zip line, climbing frame, swings and a toddlers area. You can walk upstream along the river Lemon or walk into the Bradley Estate.

My favourite Newton Abbot Park. Good for dogs who love woods and paddling in the shallow River Lemon which runs through it.

This is by far the best place to park and walk your pet or a stroll through the woods. The car park is not very big so sometimes we park in a nearby street up the hill and walk down to the park.

We are so lucky to have this park on our doorstep. First park features multiple football fields, children's play park, tennis courts and public toilets. Mediocre amount of parking is an issue, but then again, it's 5 minutes walk from centre if town where there is plenty of parking. Once you leave the first field, you have multiple pathways around the woods to walk your dog, enjoy nature or just escape the real word. Beautiful, well kept and a fair bit of history surrounds this place

We enjoyed a wonderful 1 night stay in the horse recently. The pub was shut for kitchen renovations but Malene still accommodated all our needs. The finish of the rooms is fabulous. The bed was really comfy and the bathroom was gorgeous. We are vegan and Malene made us a lovely vegan breakfast in the morning. Highly recommend!

My partner and I had a wonderful stay here. After a series of small beds in other accommodations during our South England trip, this was a breath of fresh air—a beautiful, large and comfortable bed in an equally lovely room. Very spacious, tastefully decorated, and well-equipped: coffee, tea, kettle, coffeemaker, hairdryer, TV with casting option—everything you need is there. The bathroom was very spacious with a delightful shower and everything was clean and atmospheric. The service provided by Malene and her husband was fantastic; a beautiful breakfast was served with fresh fruit, fruit juice, an egg dish, and delicious coffee. The location is perfect; just around the corner is an affordable parking lot, and the village is a lovely base to explore beautiful nearby places. There’s a Coop directly opposite The Horse, which is open until 10:00 PM. This was without a doubt our number one out of the six places we stayed at during our trip.

We got there by coincidence after a hike and although the place was very busy the friendly staff were able to fit us in. The food was simply amazing, one of the best pizzas I had in a restaurant. The staff was very friendly and helpful, we will definitely be back!

We stayed at a farmhouse locally so can’t comment on the rooms. We had dinner, I would recommend booking in advance as it can get busy. There are two areas, a cosy old fashioned pub and a more modern restaurant. We picked the restaurant but I can well imagine a nice winters evening in the bar! Staff were friendly and attentive, starters were exceptional. Steak was mildly overdone (we ordered medium rate) but still tasty. The pizzas and desserts looked amazing going past, we were just too full. We’re likely to be back before we leave!

Bradley is a charming 1400s manor house located in the Bradley Estate on the outskirts of Newton Abbot. The estate covers 100 acres of picturesque landscapes including hay meadows, orchards, hedgerows, and woodlands. Visitors can explore the well-preserved medieval touches within the house and enjoy guided tours led by knowledgeable volunteers. The peaceful setting offers lovely walks through wooded valleys, making it a favorite among National Trust properties in the area.
Great place. Need to book in advance though, plus its only open a few times a year. There isn't any carparking nor toilets but there is a small public free carpark at the end of the drive/park and the park i noticed had a cafe and toilets. The house still has the owner living there and she give a small talk about the house. It was great. You go around in a guided tour group of 6.

Definitely a step back in time. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history and the families that had lived there. They also provided a fold up seat to take around for my mother who is 92.

This is not a grand stately home, but rather the home of the local landowner. It's undergone extension and "renovation" over the years, but it's still relatively easy to see the main buildings from the 1400s and to imagine how they looked then.

We live locally but have never before visited this wonderful old house. Greeted by two lovely volunteers and shown around by subsequent volunteers, the rooms are fascinating and exhibit decor going back over six hundred years. The atmosphere, furniture and decor are well worth seeing. Lovely old property and gardens... will visit again.

A lovely little property just right for a quiet stroll around leafy wooded areas and a very interesting house full of unusual and unique rooms. The original banqueting hall was my favourite room but to think people still live here it's live a living piece of history. Only open on certain days of the week and no aminities but well worth a visit. As usual the staff were all very welcoming and knowledgeable about there rooms.
Susan C — Google review
My favourite Nationally Trust house in this area. It's small and ancient, mid-fifteenth century, but still lived in, and has a great feeling of continuity. Peaceful setting with lovely walks through the wooded valley, dogs welcome in the grounds. Although you are right on the edge of Newton Abbot it feels beautifully secluded. I recommend looking out for the roof bosses in the Chapel, the Tudor screen in the Great Hall, the William Morris curtains, the amazing wall paintings in the Fleur de Lys room, as well as some lovely 20th-century ceramics and arts-and-crafts furniture by Ernest Gimson and the Barnsleys. And I thoroughly recommend the Bradley honey, available to buy at the entrance, cash only.
Lindsey S — Google review
True, it's small, but there are some fascinating touches, especially if you bother to interact with the volunteers. The worst thing is how hard it is to find, as the city won't let them sign it. After driving past out of town a few miles, asking directions and turning around, we finally found the neighboring park, parked there and just walked over.

One shop with two doors, one side has sweets, ice cream and other interesting items and the other is a cafe. We had hot chocolate which had a few different options, buttered crumpet and cream teas. The scones were hot and one of the best scones I have had in a long time. I wasn’t sure if to go jam first and then cream, or the other way around! The lady serving was direct, but lovely, she gave us a towel for the dog as he had been swimming in the Bovey river.

Tasty authentic fresh veggie fare, good service and nice surroundings. Loose leaf tea is delicious. Recommend highly
Tom G — Google review
We only had take away coffee so cannot comment on food, service or ambience. We had two take away coffees and had to pour them away after 1 sip. They both tasted foul, I assume there was a reasonable explanation and the machine was to blame. Unfortunately we had already left the town in the car so unable to return for replacement drinks but sure the staff would have accommodated. Edited review with additional information: The drinks were a flat white and a latte, both with soya milk. The foul taste was from the milk I believe, as after inspection it was clear it had curdled and become one block sitting on top of the coffee. I understand this is common if the temperature of the coffee is too high when adding the milk.

Customers rave about their fresh fish selection boxes, which feature an impressive variety of plump fillets that arrive in eco-friendly packaging. The ordering process is straightforward, and while there may be a slight delay in shipping, the exceptional service—like personal calls to inform customers of any changes—makes it all worthwhile.
Made an order on-line for a fresh fish selection box from the listed varieties available. On the day before shipping, they were short of one particular type of the fish steaks I required - so Ben rang me to personally apologise and explain that they expected to ship one day later. Very good service ! Upon receiving the box we were delighted with the size, quality and freshness of all the fish. In the past, I have ordered from several different on-line fish suppliers, including a couple of 'premium' (i.e. expensive) suppliers - but Hamiltons stand head and shoulders above the others in every respect. We shall be ordering again from Hamiltons as soon as we have finished enjoying this selection. Recommended !!

Have tried many on line fishmongers but my god, hands down this one is the absolute best. The skate wings we ordered were so fresh and delicious. We went for the 500g and they were huge! Nevertheless we ate one each with a few chips and capers. Will definitely become a regular customer and I cannot recommend enough. Thank you!

Ordered for the first time before Christmas and as Iive alone froze most of the contents. Waited until I had tried everything before reviewing. Very happy with the contents of the mixed box I ordered.Ordering was simple. Delivery no problems. The fish was fresh and delicious. Will order again. The perfect outcome for a single person who is usually a bit wary about buying fish in a store and is currently self-isolating. Win all round.

I bought a wonderful fresh Brill and it was amazing and super ftesh. The customer service is exceptional
Kurt M — Google review
I received a selection of plump and shiny fillets in a small, compostable box and they all tasted fresh and delicious. I froze some and as soon as they are eaten, I shall re-order. They do need a few days lead-in on an order at the moment, but that's alright and they use DPD who are good. The fish is fantastic.
Callum ( — Google review
Excellent service,I found the team very helpful@informative. A good selection of fish is available. I had some sent up to Birmingham for a friend,it arrived perfectly packed@so fresh. the quality of fish was first class@will certainly be ordering again. Many thanks.
Colin D — Google review
Placed an order for delivery at home, received updates and prompt delivery (one hour slot which was brilliant). The quality of the fish was amazing. Super fresh and all vacuum packed to keep it that way. Compostable packaging and reusable ice packs - no horrible polystyrene in sight!
Lindsay H — Google review
I am very glad i found Hamiltons. Excellent quality at a very reasonable price. The Dover Sole were a good dinner plate site and the picked crab was epic. Worth every penny and free delivery over £60 spent is a very good deal.

Shop was nice and well stocked. However the old lady on the counter was so rude. You expect a smile and a good morning but nothing. Like it was too much like hard work to say hello. Not good Spar

Popped in here for a few supplies and was greeted by very friendly staff and loads of bargains on hot food at the end of the day. Plenty of good stuff in this little co-op that seems to have a personality of its own independent of the co-op chain of stores.

Lovely shop, well stocked with hot bakery food and reasonably priced too! Friendly staff and management all are so polite and helpful. I can't fault this store. Highly recommended.

A little pricey but there are many bargains and very friendly helpful nice staff. So recommended.--edit-- Only one out of 4 mattresses was delivered a brilliant Exeter driver was puzzled! Had to ring them up. Unfortunately the headboard was ripped having been covered in staples and brown paper. One bed base was completely different ...the wall unit was full of broken glass shards. We were expecting another 2 chairs too .Exeter delivery driver was shocked and he was great.
