The 22 best shopping and stores in Kerrville

I was absolutely appalled to walk into Sunrise Antique Mall and find an entire booth filled with Nazi memorabilia — swastika flags, SS pins, and other deeply offensive items. This is not history. This is hate for sale. When I told the staff how disturbing and unacceptable it was, they offered no defense, no apology, no indication that they planned to remove the items. I walked out and will never return. Displaying and profiting off of symbols of genocide and white supremacy is not "collecting." It's a choice — one that reflects terribly on the ownership and anyone who continues to sell or allow the sale of such vile material. Kerrville deserves better.

This is a must go place in Kerrville! 16,000 square feet of antiques! There are so many cool things to look at! It's like stepping back in time!

This was the most beautiful antique store that I have been to. I was impressed with the organization and categorizing of the booths. Some booths added special touches by adding background and historical context to their items. The staff were exceptionally helpful and incredibly courteous. I will be back! Wow, I’m sorry to give such a low rating but it has been a long time since I’ve seen so much junk at astronomical prices under one roof. They do have a very clean restroom.

I found an old box of at least 50 vintage discs which I was able to play on my stereo for just 20$, and the box itself was very high quality. The prices here are fantastic

Huge, with two floors of vendors. Very good prices. We found this beautiful youth bed, also several other "smalls." Big variety. If you don't find something, keep looking. Could easily spend an hour or more looking for a treasure.

This was a great shop to explore crystals and so much more! Really loved the welcoming atmosphere and it was very organized so it was easy to explore the many unique booths.

Interesting store. I walked in, and it seemed empty. Didn’t see an employee. I walked through and looked at all the little booths. A lady was in the back and finally greeted me, but that was about it.

Every chance I'm in kerrville i stop by. There is something for everybody here. It is a more esoteric and artisinal shop.

The Golden Antler is a gift boutique primarily targeted toward women and girls. They have a huge inventory full of costume jewelry and unique designs. This place is a great spot to buy your wife, daughter or girlfriend a gift!

I have visited bookstore across the country, in 27 states, and this one ranks quite high on my list of best. The staff is quite helpful, extremely friendly, and quite knowledgeable. Their selection is wonderful, especially their regional, history, and literature sections. Book prices are very reasonable here, and if you're like me, patient and take your time to browse each section thoroughly, you'll find some wonderful gems.

A great little bookstore that is bigger than it looks with a basement about as big as the ground floor. The gentleman was very polite and made us feel at home. The shelves were well organized, but hard to find your desired category. The place was a bit dingy, but that's part of the charm!

This is one of those amazing magical places that take you to another land...thousands of different lands. The smell of old pages draws any book lover in the doors. Once there shelf upon shelf, section upon section, room upon room, there’s not a reader among us that won’t get lost in imagination and can’t find at least one book or armload within these walls.

This is the iconic Classic Book store. You'll find everything you want here, and if you don't they can get it for you fast. The Gentleman we spoke to at the counter we guess might have been the owner, we're not sure - but he was extremely knowledgeable and told us exactly where to find what we were looking for in the store without missing a beat. He was friendly, and encouraged us to browse. This store has been here from some time, and we hope that it will continue to be. We bought quite a few books, and I was surprised with his knowledge about them... from fantasy fiction to children's books to gardening... he knew his stuff. Whenever we are in Kerrville and need books, we come here first.

Boy - if you love books, , you're going to love this place. If you also happen to love Texas, you will go wild! Just don't walk in expecting the latest best seller on the shelves. I need to inquire about how the books are selected. There is a decent fiction selection which might be comprised primarily of best sellers. The bulk of the selection appears to be history, but all kinds of non fiction are represented. Even if you don't find a good read, you can easily kill an hour having a good time perusuing titles and chatting with similarly minded locals. I highly recommend this store!

Neat little bookstore with a good selection. The kids area down stairs had some great picks for my kids. The sales person (owner?) didn't seem too excited to have the kids in there though. Perhaps we were too loud for her.

A true book lover's paradise. Has first edition and signed copies of all the American classics, and soon to be classics, and is run by the nicest people who are more than happy to show you around and answer the millions of questions about their amazing inventory.

They really helped out with my loved ones estate. This is one of the few estate sale companies that has a certified appraiser to value your rare items. I got my check in the mail the next week. Very satisfied

Jim and Wanda have a one of a kind jewelry shop. What appears to be a boutique of choice handcrafted items is that and so much more. What displays in the cases only represents a small portion of the incredibly well-designed custom pieces. If these walls could talk you would know tens of thousands of stories of birthday and Christmas gifts, camp charms and memorabilia, cherished religious statements, engagement and dedication rings, and more. Jim is the primary master craftsman and has an incredibly rich history as a designer. He is a Hill Country legend. Collect as many pieces from this shop as you can. It is a living legend.

Jim Morris is a unique jewelry designer. I loved his Hugger Cross. I LOVED chatting with him; then was pleasantly SHOCKED to find he offered a Military discount because my husband was an OIF Wounded Warrior! I most definitely continue to buy from this exceptional man!

Mr. Morris is a gentleman and scholar. The design studio feels like home. Family run business with financial consciousness passed on to customers. I have personally had several pieces worked on by Mr. Morris and each visit with him makes me feel a little smarter about many things. More than a jewelry store. You might get lucky and meet his wife when you go!!

Jim Morris is an incredibly talented jewelry designer, and one of the original designers of James Avery. Is work is just as good for a fraction of the price, so do yourself a favor and go see him.

Jim is exceptionally talented at his craft. It was an absolute dream working with him to collaborate on a one of a kind heirloom piece for my fiancé.

In August of 2017 we dropped off a Waldemar Disc to be made into a camp ring. This would be the third custom ring he had made for us. In September of 2018 I had my sister stop in to “check on progress.” At this point he started moving and quoted me $1650 and a mid Nov delivery. At the end of November, he told me he had a “snag” and the mold for the top of the ring would not work as the new discs are thicker than the previous two. He said he needed another week. In this email he also CONFIRMED the price at $1650 after discussing the additional work. December 24th we receive it for Christmas and the ring looks rushed. It is not round. I also receive an invoice for $2024. We go back and forth a few times discussing the unannounced price increase. He agrees to the original price and asks me to send the ring back for repair. I send the ring back, and when my 13 year old opens to the box to see her new ring, she is met with a replacement disc from Waldemar and a note stating he will no longer do business with us. I am having the ring made locally, but my daughter is crushed, she lost her original disc as he kept it, he wasted 17 months of our time and changed the price after confirming it twice (once AFTER he acknowledged he would have to hand make the top). This is not the business it used to be. Arrogance, extreme delays, poor quality of work and bait and switch are what we have seen. Yes there are two sides to every story and I would be happy to share all emails, invoices, and correspondence. Facts speak for themselves.

I have only ever ordered online as I live in Maryland, but I have been impressed with every piece I have gotten from them. And let me tell you, their shipping is fast as all get out. I can place an order today and it will already be on the way to me the same day. Super cute clothes that are a tad pricey, but hey you get what you pay for and I have gotten so many compliments from the things I have bought. I highly recommend this store to someone who is into online shopping and doesn't live in the town as the store. Service is fast and prompt and any questions are answered efficiently, at least in my experience. Two thumbs way up from me!

I’ve ordered several items from here (clothes, shoes, and jewelry) and all the items have been fantastic! There was some confusion recently on a shoe size that I’d ordered and I received a personal call to clear it up. They even threw in one of my smaller ordered items for free! I wasn’t the least bit bothered that they didn’t have my size (it was a clearance item) but I was so impressed with how quickly they got me taken care of and provided me with a solution. The service is above and beyond what I expect from an online boutique. One of my favorite places to shop!

Ordered a pair of pants that did not fit, spent $100 on them. Shipped them back to the address included in the package. When I didn’t receive any response weeks later, I emailed the store informing them I had not heard anything about my return or received a refund. She questioned me about which address I returned it to, and I sent her the picture of the address included in the package. She told me they moved the store. The pants were never returned to me, and she never reimbursed me for the $100 I spent. Terrible customer service, and will never purchase from this store again.

First time shopping here. The staff was very helpful. Lots of cute clothing. You can order online as well. Since I'm not from Andrews I will definitely be ordering online.

The Goodwill in the shopping center is great. They have the best prices of any resale shop in town. And you can use the money you saved at the liquor store on the other side. Don't forget to hit the Chick-fil-A in front to make it a well rounded day. :).

I really think that something should be done about the parking situation in that area. You've got cars coming in from Junction Highway, Harper Road, from the Kerrville Drug drive-thru , not to mention the traffic from Chicken Express. If you happen to be parked in front of Kerrville Drug picking up a prescription or even at the Salvation Army or the Liquor store right there... backing out of a parking spot is dangerous at best. There has to be a better solution. That's way above my pay grade... but there has to be a better solution.

Flora is a really warm and inviting shop in downtown Kerrville. If you love being around plants, this is the place. They sell all kinds of indoor plants, as well as other items like crystals, artwork, home decor, and more. Don’t be surprised if you see cats around the place as they are enjoying the atmosphere too. The place was nice and the service was OK. Overall, a great place if you want to have a calming, feel come over you while you’re in air condition.

Cute planter options - some really neat gift ideas. Three friendly cats, but unfortunately, the store smelled like the litter hadn't been cleaned in a while... it was the first thing we noticed when we walked in.

I was so excited to visit this store and made my husband turn the car around to go today, but our experience was horrendous, and left me wishing we had just kept headed home. 3 women outside barely acknowledged me as I entered the store. I asked if this was the plant store, and they replied with a “yes” and went back to chatting to each other, so I thought they didn’t work there. I walked in and was greeted by 1, then 2, then 3, then 4 cats, no humans though. I was browsing but there wasn’t a lot of plant items, I went in with intent to buy a new houseplant but stock was lackluster and my shopping was cut short due to 2 rude employees. My husband came in to the store behind me and took our 4 year old to the back to use the restrooms as indicated by the sign “restrooms”. Shortly after, 2 women put a product display in front of the entry my family went through for the bathrooms, essentially blocking them in which I found alarming. The women were acting as though we were criminals whispering to each other with very unfriendly faces. I went back to get my family to tell them we weren’t welcome back there and the women started yelling at me not to go there, about wrecking my nerves. All this attention to the customers now, but totally ignored before. If they were paying attention to begin with, you know like greeted us or welcomed us, they could have warned my husband that the back area was private, although no signage indicated that. They could have put up that barricade before the store opened to keep people out if that was the intent. Long story short, excited to go in to this store and left infuriated and insulted by extremely rude staff. Visit this store quickly if you’re interested bc they won’t be around long treating customers this way.

Lovely place! They have cats and a dog, and it was very nice to be greeted by them. And the plants!!! The plants. Lovely selection of harder to get, more expensive houseplants. Amazing terrariums, and just a great atmosphere. They also sell a few trinkets, like stickers and earrings. Overall, despite only visiting once, it’s become one of my absolute favorite places in Kerrville. Keep up the great work!

Just left and couldn’t believe the attitude of this woman. I came in to this EMPTY STORE, talking about weddings and needing a new bra, I walked around for about five minutes and went to the back to look at the bras, two minutes later the woman walked to the back and asked if we were going to buy anything. I thought huh, that’s kinda pushy and rude we’ve only been here for about ten minutes, I told her well maybe. She said well don’t pick it up if you are just going to play with it. Then I just said huh that’s not very nice. We walked back up to the front and she walked up to us and said “they (the bras I was looking at) aren’t toys honey” I said “oh I get it I’ll just leave.” I don’t understand what we did wrong, it really hurt my feelings. We weren’t making a mess out of the store, we picked up a few things (2-3) and put them back as best we could, so I don’t know why she was acting so rudely. NO WONDER YOUR STORE IS EMPTY

I really enjoyed walking around the market. First time here although I've wanted to many times before, but didn't. I thought there would be more vegetables, maybe wrong time of year. Very interesting, not all farms grow vegetables! so wow! cow farms (beef) for sale, mushroom farms! Heirloom tomato plants for sale, cookie farms, a young lady teen entrepreneur, with art for sale (real nice), a pizza brick oven vender, I forget what he was selling because his pizza looked so good. A young man playing guitar. All the food is inspected. So come on down to Water Street every fryday 3pm, I know I will again because I hope it will be different every week. Bob

Did not receive what I had ordered. I was so disappointed. I ordered 3 loafs of apple walnut sourdough bread and got one loaf out of three The other two were regular sourdough bread.

So much fun. The breads...outstanding. It was all local merchants. Everyone had special items.

Love Billy’s western wear and the staff. As family, we often go there for a lot our needs, from jackets for the winter, and outfits for the rodeo season. They have a great selection for adults and kids. If they don’t have your size the manager and staff are more willing to order your size from the other location and it doesn’t take long at all. The staff and manager are welcoming and very helpful, throughout our shopping experience we were asked a few times if we were finding everything alright. Billy’s western wear definitely deserves five stars. I have never been to the boot barn location in Kerrville and I have no reason to go. #teambillysforever

2nd UPDATE Store Owner responds 10 months later. Of course I substantiated this claim by talking to both the store associate the date of this google review and a manager who confirmed their denial by walking over to me at the checkout area and agreeing with the associate. To come back and send a response 10 months later is plain ridiculous. So happy to have Boot Barn come to town and Cowboy Store in Bandera. Poor customer service. UPDATE!!! Their response below is stating I had a more expensive item to exchange and that is COMPLETELY false, the price was exactly 38.99 i.e. same as the other one I bought...why would your associate and manager lie. Your response shows even more why I will never go back there...horrible service. I have spent 1000s at this store. I purchased boys Cinch jeans in 14 slim that were too small for my son and went in for an exchange, and unfortunately believe the receipt fell out of my bag. They said i could exchange, fair enough and i never asked for a refund. The jeans were never worn, tags and stickers still on and still in store bag. I found same brand jeans (Cinch) in a 16R and at the same exact price and they refused to let me exchange. They said it needed to be the same exact brand and look. I was even buying another 40 dollar shirt. They lost my business forever and that is just plain poor customer service...never once attempted to help me find the right size in the item of same type or asked a manager to approve the even exchange. I will never be back! Very disappointed.

Went into store to look for some jeans and Ariat Loafers, manager or cashier behind the desk was rude, gave continuous dirty looks, was on her phone and did nothing but bark out orders to the younger folks that worked there. No one seemed happy to be at work and doing their job...unfortunate.

I bought a pair of boots in Fredericksburg few years before I brought them to Montana. I couldn't remember the name or the style. I gave the saleswoman a brief description and she pulled three pairs of boots off the shelf each pair I would have bought. She knew exactly what I was describing and even opened up a brand new pair of socks for me to try them on. She she suggested a boot cream that's brought the colors out even better and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I love it when a store has employees that are knowledgeable of their products I can accurately help in the suggestion of purchasing something similar or with the specifications that a customer needs. Thank you so much for helping me select my new pair of Ariat work boots. They fit perfectly and are exactly what I wanted!

I shop and buy a few things here and there once in awhile and it's really a nice place with a lot of quality merchandise.

Last night, I took my daughter to Walmart to buy her friend a whole bunch of presents for her birthday. We were checking out at the self check out, When she accidentally put her phone on the scale, where the bags go… Which immediately alerted the sales associate Before I noticed that it was calling them, I grabbed a banana that I was gonna scan next and set it on the scale. A very rude man approached in a very condescending manner, I tried to explain to him multiple times that it wasn’t the banana that was causing the issue. He wouldn’t even hear about it. Then I reached for the banana to move it. He then grabbed it out of my hand and pushed my hand away….. I have PTSD so I immediately started shaking and asked him over and over to move from my area and then I did not need his assistance. I even asked to get a manager to which he responded I’ll get them, but it’ll be a while. I continually asked him to move from my area because he was standing there trying to intimidate and bully me all in a very condescending manner. I was shaking my daughter was upset. She was freaking out. His job is Customer Service. Your job is to be polite and not to try to instigate an argument…. I was obviously distressed, and I kept asking for him to leave before getting upset. I continually kept asking him to leave. He just kept mocking me and stood there…. I couldn’t even report it to anybody because everybody I asked kept saying they weren’t a manager… I kept asking him to call he wouldn’t…. I left upset, crying as well as as my daughter. I took a picture of him, and in the second picture, he just smiled and posed…. It was a very nasty encounter. I couldn’t believe one that he thought he had the right to put his hands on me… And second that I couldn’t get any sort of help. I was telling him over and over to move away from me and he just stood there with his arms crossed, mocking me, and making me feel so uncomfortable! Reporting it does nothing and I couldn’t get any sort of help. It was embarrassing and mortifying to be treated that way in front of my daughter and there was nothing I could do about it. I’m gonna go ahead and include a picture of the person responsible just because I couldn’t get any help there and it’s still sitting with me. I’m still so fully upset about it.

Wal-Mart in Kerrville has a fairly goid selection of food and various merchandise selection. The only specific products you must double check is the produce before you buy it because alot of times fresh avocados. Mini peppers in a bag on the back wall I personally have purchased go bad in less than 2 days. I dont know why this is the case but its happened to me more than once, perhaps when the food is delivered it is not refrigerated properly and put into the cold case immediately. So next you shop there make sure you double check these produce items well so you don't have to throw it away. Thats money down the drain. Also is it me or does it seem that there are only 2 isles open at any given time no matter what time of day or night I shop there are less and less checkout lanes open .

Went in here early, around 630 am to grocery shop. Went looking for a checkout and no checkers. All the self checkouts are 15 items or less. I have a full cart of groceries. Asked a employee if they were going to have any checkers out, she tells me, very unconcerned that she doesn't know, I asked her if she could call someone and find out. I needed to go through the tobacco line for a family member. She tells me, I have to go to the service desk. Are you kidding me??! I need to go to customer service?? All I wanted to do was get the last items and check out. Her unfriendly and unhelping self had me so angry, I just left my full cart right there and walked out. They can put it away, done.. I won't be back to this location, customer service is horrible every time I go there. I would rather drive to Hondo than shop at Kerrville Walmart ever again...

Found exactly what I was looking for in the store but I'm disappointed with the plus size clothing selection or no selection they have. I wish they had prettier, nicer clothes and not so frumpy. And today I went 10/15/ 25 and I saw zero plus size clothes. Wake up Walmart, not all women are a size 0 to 1x.

Your door greeter is amazing at her job! Definitely goes above and beyond. I always see her getting baskets and wheel chair carts all hours of the evenings. Even in the rain! Helps customers find things. I have seen her do many things and always happy to do so! She is a welcoming face everytime I walk into Walmart. Thank you Diane for being a warm spirit when im shopping here!

I shop at Walmarts all over TX & the US. The Kerrville Walmart is the worst I’ve encountered. The workers are rude & unhelpful. Items that show available at the store on app are out of stock. Items that are in stock ring up a higher price than what is listed for this particular store. Clerks argue that it’s only the online price but in the app I select Kerrville store, and select “in store.” It shows me the item is absi On aisle K2 and the price is $19.92 for example. So I make my decision based on that information & drive to the store then it rings up higher & it’s a battle to get it corrected. Barbara at customer service desk is the worst. She seems miserable at her job so has to make everyone around her miserable too. It’s worth the drive to go to Fredericksburg or Boerne & avoid this awful store.

What can I say it's a dam gas station. Half the time, the pump does not print out your receipt. But they do have good prices on gas.

Update (August 2024) I seriously don’t understand the recent reviews that suggest this is a great store. Some people must have much lower expectations about how a store presents itself. I only went in because there was something I needed and didn’t want to wait to order or go to another town to look. The one women’s dressing room is basically gross: torn wallpaper, broken door handles and a light that’s been out since at least April. When visiting family in Kerrville, a trip to Belk was a given - now, not so much. This store is consistently a MESS, especially in the Women's plus size area. The clothes are packed on racks with many falling to the floor, and those on shelves are unfolded and jumbled. I often see workers just standing around visiting instead of working their areas. Dressing rooms are in bad shape - stained carpet and gouges in the wall. The entire store needs renovating. I'm giving it two stars instead of one for the highlight of the store - the men's area which is always neatly organized. I have contacted this store often about these issues and have even sent pictures of the mess. I have been contacted and told that it would improve but nothing seems to change. Sadly, I think Belk knows they are the only true department store in town and feel they don't need to even try to be a nice place to shop. Addition: I was back in this Belk last weekend and guess what? NO IMPROVEMENT! This time there were 3 z-racks full of clothing that I had to move or maneuver around to get to the wall to see what was there. Two of the racks weren't even clothing for the area I was in. And again, employees doing more visiting with each other than working. I think I am throwing in the towel, waving the white flag...I have a Belk card but it does me little good as there are so many exclusions. I'm sure I'm not one of their big spenders, so I doubt they'll miss me anyway. Edited…4 years later (June 2023) I don’t understand recent reviews that say this is an awesome store, that it’s neat and easy to find things. What I experienced today was just more decline in an already mess of a store. Packed clothing racks, with little in the right place, and clothes on the floor, purses piled on top of purses, and in the wrong areas. The dressing room is still dark and dingy. Once again, the women’s plus area is impossible to shop in due to a total lack of organization. I overheard the woman in the shoe department, telling someone that she had been on vacation for a week and this was the mess she came back to. If that is the case, the manager is at fault. If there’s only one person that works in an area and they go on vacation, the manager needs to be over there straightening sip the area. The Kerrville Belk has become. Undoubtedly one of the worst stores I have ever been in. My original review gave two stars because the men’s area was always nicely organized. I wasn’t in that area today, but what I experienced everywhere else brought my review down to one star. Update: December 2023 Nothing changes for the better in this store. If anything, it continues to deteriorate. Even the once organized men’s department is now in shambles. Belk used to be the go to department store in Kerrville, but no longer. Now it’s just a dump. I have reached out to corporate more than once, and get the same reply. April 2024 Hard to believe that this store could get any worse but it has. It’s more of a dump than ever. The manager and staff should be ashamed of themselves, especially the employee who told me today, when I commented on the condition of the area, that I didn’t have to shop there. She’s right. I don’t. I’m done.

Belks store in general is hot as hell not sure if the ac was broken but I can tell you it was very uncomfortable and suffocating hot especially inside the women's dressing room. I was in there less than 10 minutes because of the overwhelming heat. That in my opinion is unacceptable and just think how the employees feel to have to tolerate that for 8 hours. I only say so because last summer it was the same experience at Belks. Luckily I went today for their Labor Day holiday sale starting at 30% - 50% off! Oy thing i noticed big time iz whomever is the merchandise buyer for Belks Corporation i found just for women's clothing choices the blouses are majority of polyester. I despise that material as it may be great as far as not wrinkling like cotton, however it makes my skin breakout due to it doesnt allow your skin to breathe. How come it seems the clothes selection is just overall Ugly? It's like I think the merchandise buyer picks out these big bold prints on sundresses, dresses, blouses target audience older ladies over age 65+. Im in my 50s and I think the selection sucks.

Just went in to exchange a birthday gift !handed the sales lady in the makeup department my pink birthday bag and explained to her that they were a gift and the sandals were too small. She is so busy asking me if I wanted a Belk card I told her no about six times . She was pushy and rude then she turns around and says I put it back on the card . Does not let me get a gift exchange or even try. Turns around and tells me that I should have told her it was a gift and it’s all my fault. Mind you the shoes were in a gift bag and that’s the first thing h o told her . Wow I won’t go back in Belk ‘ she was an idiot

Love this Belks. Easy access to the store. Great selection and sales. My only complaint is limited dressing rooms. Ended up using the men's area dressing rooms.

Nice store, but way behind in fashion trends. My daughter looked at clothes and saw nothing cute at all. Why are so many of the teen clothes full of gummy bears? They aren’t toddlers! Full of cartoon characters as well! Even worse, my daughter tried checking out an item in the store and they asked if she had a JCPenney credit card. She said she was under eighteen and they started asking “Does your mom have one? Do you know her social for it to sign her up?” She said they were most likely joking but it makes me so uncomfortable! Beauty area was okay, but no actual good brands. As a professional makeup artist and dermatologist, I hate how the beauty employees have no experience with beauty but try to sell it! Tried price checking one of the products I wanted with a woman and it cost way more than usual when rang up. Then I had a boy there try to convince me to buy a product, and he started lying about how the benefits work and how it helps. Not professional and his makeup made me very uncomfortable, especially because he was a man. To make things worse, the boy and girl kept flooding me and staring at me every second waiting for me to buy a product. Then I left because I saw nothing good that I couldn’t get at burkes or walmart. Well, comes to my surprise since I was shopping outside the beauty area and looking at the clothes, I hear those two workers gossiping about me and how I said the product was too expensive!!! And that I can’t complain because it was the cheapest price out of every store!!! LIES. I have bought en it for cheaper.

Nice store with JCPENNEY usual selection. I wasn't too impressed with their Plus size selection, but Petite sizes and children section had a good selection. Some pretty good sales.

Not a full size JcPenny store with limited selections. Over priced with tons of sale signs so you think you are getting a good deal. Difficult to find help in the store & felt like there was no AC.

I like shopping at JC Penney’s. The clothes are good quality and in my budget. Most of the time, the employees are friendly. I didn’t give more stars because of that and last time I was there, upon check out, they talked me into applying for a store card. (I used to have one until it became a card I can use anywhere. I already have those and like the store cards because they are not as apt to be stolen). Anyway, since they said would get an extra 35% off my purchase, I grudgingly applied. When they tried to use the new card number, my purchases didn’t qualify for the discount because everything I bought was on sale! Now I didn’t get the promised discount, and I have a credit card I don’t want!

MY INTERACTION WITH CHARLOTTE: I came to this JCPenney with my sister who works at this location, so I was excited to go in, meet her co-workers and go shopping. Everyone that I met so far was really nice. After we were finished shopping me, my sister and her boyfriend walked up to the jewelry counter to check out. We noticed a lady was already there ready to check out so we waited patiently. Charlotte then walked up and started ringing up the first lady. She then asked my sister if she needed help with anything and my sister responded by telling her that we were ready to check out, and our items were behind the counter. Charlotte then asked me “what do you need?” I believe she was assuming that I wasn’t with my sister and her boyfriend due to our obvious race differences. (By the way, me and my sister aren’t related by blood. I am black and Native American with dark skin, both my sister and her boyfriend are white passing.) after she asked me “What do you need” with an aggressive tone, I told her “we’re ready to check out” she then cut me off rudely saying “well this lady is first”. Charlotte then rang up my sister using her employee discount. My sister Insisted that I could use her employee discount on my purchase since we are family. When it was time for me to check out. Charlotte barely made eye contact with me. We asked about being able to use the discount, Charlotte refused. Me and my sister were fairly confused because usually no one has a problem with her sharing her discount when she is present. When we asked Charlotte as to why, she told my sister she couldn’t use the discount for friends. My sister then corrected her by saying “family”. Charlotte smirked as if she didn’t believe us and then said we have to live in the same household in order to share the discount if not, my sister had to be the one purchasing the items. Since we didn’t live in the same household my sister agreed to pay for it HERSELF…. with HER card….. that has HER name on it… Charlotte still refused and left to go get Michelle. When Michelle arrived, Charlotte explained to her saying “She’s trying to use her employee discount for her SUPPOSEDLY family” she then glanced at me with a disgusted look on her face. Michelle then told my sister the rules, “saying that it can only be used for people who she claims on her taxes” Michelle also told us that my sister is allowed to pay for it due to it being her own card. Charlotte then cut me, Michelle and my sister off irritably by saying “she wasn’t gonna pay for it until I said something”. Michelle and I constantly stressed that it’s ok as long as my sister is the one paying for it. Even though Michelle told her it’s OK. Charlotte seemed to hate the fact that my sister was getting the items for me. Overtime I started to feel singled out as if Charlotte didn’t want me to have the discount due to something that didn’t have anything to do with policy( my race ). I’m not one to assume, but it was extremely obvious. Charlotte eventually gave in and rang me up, she was holding the items I previously touched with the tip of her fingers as if she was disgusted to touch them, which she did not do to the lady before us and my sister. Mind you I have done nothing wrong to Charlotte. This was my first time ever meeting her. It seems as if my looks was the only thing about me she knew and she treated me rudely because of it. I have never experienced this type of behavior from a worker at JCPenney or any of the workers I met that day at my sister’s location. I am just glad that Michelle came to help.
